  アルクさんが毎年発行しているムック『翻訳事典』、今年も「2012年度版」が1月15日に刊行になりました 今回も、記事を書かせていただきましたといっても、今回は１本だけなんだけど・・・ 映像翻訳を学ぶ講座を見学させていただいて、そのレポートを書きました 映像翻訳と言われると、ぱっと思いつくのは映画の字幕 この日の授業も、映画のスクリプトの翻訳をする、という内容でした ほんの２分ぐらいの脚本なのに、ものすごい、手間と時間と神経をつかって翻訳というものはなされるのだ、ということが、わかり、非常に面白かった 「ダース・ベ『イ』ダー」なのか、「ダース・ベ『ー』ダー」なのか、なぜ、その表記を選んだのか、きちんと根拠を示して説明できないといけない また、映像翻訳の中で、映画の字幕というのは、ほんの一部であって、今は、「映像」と名のつく、ありとあらゆるものが、翻訳対象になるそうです例えば、歌手のプロモーションビデオ、舞台公演、企業のプロモーションビデオなどなど ニーズが多様化しているので、自分の好きな分野のことを活かすチャンスも広がっている、ということ これからますます、「映像」は増えていくだろうから、面白い分野だと感じました そのほかにも、現在公開中の話題の映画「ソーシャル・ネットワーク」の翻。制作の裏話とか、電子書籍の登場で翻訳界・出版界にはどんな影響があるのか、とか、興味深い記事がたくさん出ています 詳しくは、 コチラ

  ■ [ 映画 ] ソーシャル・ネットワーク ☆☆☆☆ 映画『ソーシャル・ネットワーク』公式サイト あらすじ： 2003年、ハーバード大学の学生マーク・ザッカーバーグ（ ジェシー・アイゼンバーグ ）は、学内で友人を増やすためのサイトを親友のエドゥアルド・サヴェリン（アンドリュー・ガーフィールド）と共に立ち上げるサイトは瞬く間に学生たちの間に広がり、 ナップスター 創設者ショーン・パーカー（ ジャスティン・ティンバーレイク ）との出会いを経て、社会現象を巻き起こすほど巨大に成長していくが…… 2011年3本目の劇場鑑賞作品 公開２日目・日曜日の夕方の回を観たのですが、観客は50人くらいでした 映画館で、この予告を観て以来、僕はこの映画の公開を楽しみにしていたのです 僕はもともと伝記映画が大好きで、 デヴィッド・フィンチャー 監督も好きだし、「世界最大の sns 『 facebook 』誕生の裏側を描く」というテーマにも興味がありました それに加えて、これまでにさまざまな映画賞を受賞し、「アカデミー賞最有力候補！」とまで言われているとあっては、観ないわけにはいきません 観終えて、まず感じたことは、率直なところ、「良い映画ではあるけど、ちょっと期待しすぎたかな……」だったんですけどね 冒頭の、主人公・ザッカーバーグと（元）恋人・エリカとの会話（口論？）のシーンは素晴らしい！ ものすごく早口で、さまざまな話題をあちこちザッピングしながら語りまくるザッカーバーグ エリカの母校をバカにしまくり（でも、エリカは「ボストン大学」なのに！）、自分のことしか喋らない男 （で、本人はハーバード大学の学生だったりするから、またイヤミなんですよこれが） 「あなたがモテないのは、オタクだからじゃなくて、人間性に問題があるからよ！」というエリカの捨てゼリフに、僕も心の中で拍手してしまいました これほど主人公のキャラクターが観客に伝わる導入部というのは、滅多にないような気がします ２人は、バーで飲みながら、ただ喋っているだけなのに（だからこそ、ザッカーバーグは「こういうことを日常的に喋っている男」だというのがわかるのです） この映画、予告編を観たときの印象では、「 facebook を創りあげた天才・ザッカーバーグが、そのあまりにも大きな成功のために、周囲とうまくいかなくなり、人間関係に苦しむようになっていく」という哀しい人間ドラマだと思っていたんですよ 予告編のｂｇｍもすごく印象的でしたし でも、実際に本編を観てみると、ザッカーバーグという人は、能天気というか、ほとんど「苦悩」なんてせず、 facebook を成長させることばかり考えているのです それでも、その才能で facebook があまりに大きくなってしまったがために、周囲の人々はザッカーバーグに振り回されていきます 「どうしてザッカーバーグは、自分たちの気持ちをわかってくれないんだ？」 この映画でのザッカーバーグは、そういう「他者への気配り」みたいなのが、基本的に欠落している人間です 本人は、ただ facebook を進化させられる環境があればいい しかしながら、これだけの大きな組織になると、「友達とのサークル活動」の延長ではやっていられなくなるのも自明の理ですよね 僕は、この映画の登場人物たちに、ほとんど感情移入できませんでした 「他人の気持ちがわからない男」ザッカーバーグ 「良い奴で、いちばん共感しやすそうだけど、 facebook を切り盛りするだけの才覚はない（でも、自分ではそれを認めたくない）男」エドゥアルド・サベリン 「無視されたことがないエリートが、無視されてしまったことによってプライドを傷つけられ、『復讐』を望むようになった」ウィンクルボス兄弟 「すごい能力とセンスを持っているけれど、人間的にはだらしなく、目的のためなら手段を選ばない男」ショーン・パーカー みんな、「友達になりたくないタイプ」なんですよ本当に 登場人物が白黒分かれていないというか、「黒に近い灰色」ばかり ザッカーバーグとともに facebook を立ち上げたサベリンは、 facebook のために多額のお金を自腹で供出し、スポンサー探しのために身を粉にして奔走します でも、彼の「懸命の努力が生んだ、ささやかな成果」は、 ナップスター をつくった「ｉｔ業界の有名人（問題児、でもあるのですが）」ショーン・パーカーの「知名度」と「人脈」の前に、あっさり吹き飛ばされてしまうのです 「ザッカーバーグを利用して、遊んでばかりいる」ように見えるショーン・パーカーのような人間のほうが、大きな企業になってしまった facebook にとっては「有用」であるというのは、それが「現実」であるだけに、すごく悲しいことです ただ、それは デヴィッド・フィンチャー 監督が描くまでもなく「いまの世の中の真実」なんですよね この映画、予告編で予想されたような「悲劇性」は乏しく、訴訟に関しても『アビエーター』みたいな激しいやりとりはありません ザッカーバーグは「面倒だから、もう、さっさと終わらせようよみんなが自分を責めなければ、お金を出すのは構わないから」という態度を貫きます いや、貫く、というよりは、彼は最後まで「なんで自分がこんなふうに訴訟を起こされているのか、理解できていない」と言った方が正確なのかもしれません そういう、ずっと趣味の延長でパソコンをいじっていた「才能とひらめきだけの人間が、世界の『欲望』に突然さらされる」のも「it社会」の一面なのでしょう あるシーンで、ザッカーバーグが見せる「自分でもよくわからない孤独感」が描かれるのですが、同じようにパソコンの前に座ってしまう僕にも、あの気持はなんとなく伝わってきました ただ、あれは facebook を使ったことがない人には何をやっているのかよくわからないと思われますし、いちいち解説すると興醒めだし、そもそも、 facebook そのものが日本ではあまりメジャーではないのが、この映画にとってはつらいところではありそうです アメリカの有名大学の「クラブ」なんて、日本人である僕にはイメージしにくかったですし（あれはエリートたちの「社交クラブ」みたいなものだと考えればいいんですよね」 本編が終わり、スタッフロールが流れ始めたとき、僕は「えっ、もうこれで終わり？」と思いました 120分、大爆発シーンや鬼気迫るやりとりがあるわけでもないのに飽きさせない作品ではありますが、関係者がまだみんな存命どころか、ザッカーバーグはまだ25歳なだけに、消化不良な終わりかたも、いたしかたないところではあるのでしょうけど 「さまざまな条件で検索しあえる、5億人のネットワーク」をつくることと、「目の前にいてくれる、信頼できる一人の友人」をつくること 「 ソーシャル・ネットワーク 」は、本当に人々に「幸せ」をもたらしているのでしょうか？ あのシステムが生みだしているのは「限りない欲望」と「往生際の悪い希望」そして、「単なる時間潰し」だけのような気もします ただ、もしかしたら、みんなが求めているのが「目の前の自分の思い通りに動いてくれない友達」じゃなくて、「そういう、もっと曖昧で形のない、自分の思いのままになるもの」だからこそ、「 ソーシャル・ネットワーク 」は広がり続けているのかもしれません
