God of War: Origins Collection

  • 024   This collection is a great entry into the God of War Saga . The graphics , gameplay , story , and playability feel great and it gives you that great familiar feeling of playing a God of War title . This is a great deal for the price , I recommend it to any God of War fan or any fan in general who is new to the series .

    • 030   for the price its not a bad deal . 2 games for 40 $ . the games are not the long mind you and if all you care about is the story one time and trophies if you are a skilled gamer can easily claim platinums in one playthrough . just like the other 3 god of wars this is just a brutal hack and slash killing game . story isn't that fantastic but it will still keep you entertained . maybe 5 - 8 hrs per game in the main storyline and 1 - 3 hrs of the bonus material . so not that much gaming to be had , but still a must have for any god of war fan .
      • 074   For remastering PSP games onto the PS3 , the graphics weren't half bad and the game's construct is the same as the consol versions with a few tweaks in controls . I'd say a must buy for fans of the series

    • 060   This game is the ultimate god of war game . I like the graphics and the way the game plot is set up . The only problem is that the game is too short but it is fun to play . This is the best game to unless your inner revenge and anger on the inanimate skeleton men and monsters . Good game to buy if you want a good action game . Also , see the whole god of war collection . I own them all and it is the best video game series ever .
      • 052   Like all the series of the God of the War , this it is an excellent game . I have understood , that it is extracted of the original one of the PSP and for that reason , I explain myself that it is a short version , if we compared it with the other versions that created for the PS3 . Nevertheless , this does not clear to him that he himself contains an excellent plot and history . Excellent game !
      • 101   Awesome game ! I would recommend this to anyone who loves this franchise ! This is a must buy for God of War fans .
      • 121   I have this game for the PSP . So I decided to buy it for the PS3 after getting one . The game is Awesome on the PS3 as well as on the PSP
      • 128   A well put remastered PSP game put onto the PS3 with a lot of new features . It's great . You shouldn't be reading this review . . . Buy the game and have fun .

    • 088   2 of the PSP's best , beautifully updated in HD and running at 60fps . This is not a quick and easy HD port - this is an all out optimization for the PS3 and it shows . I had both PSP games and traded them in for this - I'm totally satisfied , exceeded my expectations . If you like God of War or that style of game even remotely , you'll enjoy this .
      • 045   I don't think many people got to play these two games since they were on the PSP . I already own both of them on PSP and can't recommend them enough . This HD collection is the best way for people to play them . Trophy support , 3D support , and excellent remastered graphics . This is an absolute must buy for any PS3 owner .
      • 068   Well . . . GOD OF WAR ! ! ! ! I own all of them . . . the versions for ps3 . If you want a lot of fun buy them all . . . and I recommend playing them in the correct chronological order . It would make the story being much interesting .

    • 091   I really enjoyed these games , the chain of olimpus was kinda short , but the Ghost of sparta game was super cool . Now I enjoy having the complete collection of God of War games is PS3 . Love the games . they better come with something like this game or another part .
      • 123   God of War : Chains of Olympus I played it on hard mode and find the controls a little off . But overall the game was still great in 3D . God of War : Ghost of Sparta play through in 3D the game looks amazing still have not beat it yet but so for i am enjoying it .

    • 109   Been waiting awhile for this collection to come out since I never owned a PSP but thanks to sony we are able to get both PSP god of war games in 1 disc for 40 bucks is quite a steal ! If your a fan of the god of war series and you need your kratos fix , then this GOW origins collection is for you ! Granted the game does play like an outdated PS2 game but it still holds up extremely well . However there are some minor bugs in the game if you choose to explore every inch of the game because there was one isolated incident where the camera would not focus on kratos and the camera would be going outside of the map , unable to see whats going on I was forced to restart previous checkpoint again these are just minor issues , nothing game breaking like freezes or save files being corrupted , etc Either way , pick this game up if your itching for some simple pick up and play god of war games , I will admit both of these PSP games are EXTREMELY easy , especially on hard as well

    • 131   Another Great Krato's destroying game . It tells of the origins of Krato's and why things are the way they are in His destructions . If your a God of War fan , this is a must play and own game . And even if your not , its still worth playing every moment you get the chance .
      • 082   Worth every cent ! ! ! It's a must have for avid fans of the game who wants to experience the complete saga on the ps3 .
      • 139   it's really a classic great story graphics and game play , it arrived really quick and in great conditions , i really recommend it

    • God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) I LOVE the God of War series with a passion in the same way a film lover loves the works of Ingmar Bergman / Alfred Hitchcock / Stanley Kubrick / Andrei Tarkovsky . As a matter of fact , it's easily my all time favorite game series . It's art direction , story line , characters , emotions , and game play are all among the cream of the crop . It's a force to reckoned with in gaming , and it's no secret that all Sony game systems benefit from having God of War on it . The highlights of the PSP's game library were definitely the two God of War games , so naturally I was very excited when I heard the two GoW games were being ported over the PS3 . I've played both games on the PSP before , but ever since my aging PSP died on me , I was definitely bummed I would never be playing the two God of War PSP games . Rest assured , two of the PSP games are now available on the PS3 , and they are better than ever . First off , the games themselves . What exactly do these two new games offer for God of War fans ? Are they worth the journey ? The short answer is YES ! ! ! ( OK , that's pretty obvious , but read on anyway ) . ( Minor Spoilers Ahead ) . Both games have their own original plots , with CoO being a prequel to the whole series , and Ghost of Sparta being set after the second game . Both stories are well written and bring out entirely new elements and subtexts , filling out plenty of back story and developing the characters , especially Kratos . In particular , Ghost of Sparta does an amazing job at really setting the tone for the rest of series . More members of Kratos family appear , and it's the suffering and the negativity about that is caused by the gods , that really give an understanding of the agonizing ten years he spent serving the gods . It actually doesn't QUITE explain why Kratos went on a killing rampage in the beginning of the second game ( it's actually because he was betrayed , in game , in the cell phone game God of War : Betrayal ) , but it really lingers on Kratos own suffering and more intimate feelings , really showing you as to WHY he's so pissed off . Chains of Olympus is an excellent prequel as well , highlighting the seemingly never-ending quest of serving the gods . At the end , it all comes to a deadly conclusion that would ultimately lead to the most harrowing journeys in video game history ( at least for Kratos ) . In particular , the revelation near the end of the game is the light bulb moment if you always wondered why Kratos made the ultimate sacrifice at the very end of the series . The games basically follow the same GoW formula , as you will perform combat , solve puzzles , execute quick-time events , and collecting red orbs in order to level up and gain new abilities . The same action-based , combo-stringing , combat is here and works as great as before . You will still gain access to awesome magic and weapons , including my favorite new weapon , the Arms of Sparta . You will be able to combine and use a single combat spear with a heavy duty shield . As a matter of fact , the two games contain some of my favorite magic and weapons . I also love the Djinn , which let's you summon a fire genie that pounds flames into the ground , and The Horn of Boreas let's you wield the name sake , with the ability to freeze enemies in a whirlwind of Ice and wind . However , I'll let you explore all of the new abilities yourself . The controls have also , actually , improved a bit thanks to the PS3 controller . The addition of rumble is a nice feature , and the the DualShock 3 ' s extra buttons provide for easier controls as well ( rolling with the analog stick , for one ) , since the PSP didn't have as many buttons . Most of all though , those who LOVE the game series for it's awesome level design , excellent stories , great writing , emotional ability , and the GoW artistry will love these games . None of the games feel redundant ; they are always fresh in it's execution of its world . From exploring the monumental Helios temple , exploring the Pits of Tartarus from the very deep , being present during the seize of the city of Attica , and watching the world crumble beneath a stone pillar , I've always played these games knowing exactly why I treat this game series the ways fantasy fans do The Lord of the Rings . You will not regret playing these games , as you will gain more insight into the unique GoW myth , understand the characters even more , and the God of War universe itself . After all , one main reason I play these games is because you love the art of the game , and all of the games here would be utterly indispensable to the series in my eyes . They are just that important to the series . As you all wanted to know though , God of War Collection , besides giving a wider audience a chance to play these two games , is known for it's remastered graphics . The team responsible for the previous collection did an excellent job with remastering the visuals for the first collection , as it was one of the big selling points of the first collection . For those of you unfamiliar with the process , the HD remastering adds better texture , speeding up the frame-rate to a constant 60fps , and cleaning up the rough edges and shoddy textures of many PS2 games . It really cleans them up and makes them look more vibrant enough they can hold their own against today's visuals . While these PSP games obviously show some graphics shortcomings due to the fact these are PSP games , they still look excellent . In particular , I personally think Ghost of Sparta looks terrific . Ready at Dawn used excellent graphic technique , and it honestly is the second best-looking GoW game , with the third with the lead . Colors look amazing , the liquid and particle textures looks ultra clean and dense , and the backdrops are stunning and slick . Chains of Olympus is a bit more rough around the edges , but it still looks great and much of the rough edges have been cleaned up . Perhaps the best upgrade , however , is the HD experience . This may just be a selling point for those who still are able to play their PSP versions . While it's plenty possible to connect your PSP to your PS3 , the image will not be very pretty , and it's definitely not as easy and you might end up spending around the same amount of money to do so . But with this collection , the crisp High Definition picture , the pounding , visceral , earth-shaking sound design , all work together and can truly floor your home theater system and your own God of War experience . This is what the medium / art game gamer mindset LIVES for ! Besides , these games SCREAM epic treatment . You don't play GoW on a little portable handheld that only has a 4.3 inch screen . You play it with a TV , a home theater system . With astounding sound design , larger than life , awe-inspiring visuals , these are the types of games you buy a Home Theater system for . Thanks to this collection , you can finally translate the PSP games to the area it's truly known for . On top of that , God of War Origins also features a lofty new addition for people who really enjoy such a thing ( nothing wrong with that ) : 3 - D . Alright , fine , I admit it . I did not get any time to check out the 3 - D first person . I don't own a 3 - D TV , and I agree with such figures as Roger Ebert that 3 - D is largely unnecessary and a complete gimmick . However , I can definitely understand why people like the effects , and from what I heard , the 3 - D works fine and really helps amplify many effects such as fog and other material . However , I'm definitely hear to tell you that It really shouldn't detract you either way from purchasing this , as 3 - D or not , it should not disappoint . If you like it , great . If you don't , also great . It's not a make or break decision in buying the collection , as the main feature here are the games themselves . As far as bonus features go , you can also unlock trophies . watch documentaries , and spend some time with the DLC . I didn't find the bonus features to be a must-buy factor , the games included are , but they are fun and interesting . The DLC is definitely interesting and fun , and most GoW fans will definitely find some use and value in it . The Forest of the Forgotten is a brand new arena challenge similar to previous ones , and you will get all new objectives to solve in the vein of Super Smash Brother's challenges , like most of the challenges . The Kratos Legionnaire is basically a costume where you play with a very Golden Spartan soldier , complete with awesome helmet . The roundtable video is where all five creators of the series all meet together and discuss the franchise together . You also get Trophies , which are mostly just virtual bragging rights and a way to compare each others skills . Well , skills predetermined by the software company , but hey . Personally , I'm not a big fan of trophy achievements ( I find them trivial and I never go out of my way to achieve them , I just achieve them unintentionally ) , but some people like them and they aren't too difficult to unlock , as you get them for activities such as beating the game on higher difficulty levels , using items for a particular amount of time , or achieving / completing / coming to certain plot points . I easily give this five stars for what it is , as all God of War fans who haven't played one of the games here would be fooling themselves if they didn't own this one . The games here are essential to the series , and if you don't have these games , then you should buy this collection as soon as possible . It's true that , if you own the PSP versions , the value of this collection may not be AS obvious ( although I don't think many would regret it , given that you can play these PSP games on an awesome Home Theater System ) . For everyone else , you will be spending your hard earned money very well . I can't think of a single God of War game not worth playing , and this collection is just as essential as God Of War 3 is . The games are , in many ways , more intimate , more personal , and emotionally satisfying , especially Ghost of Sparta , which has one of the best story lines in the game series . Really , I'm running out of things to say here , just get it , and you will not be disappointed .

      • 003   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) I don't own a PSP , so this is the first time I've played these 2 games . I'll keep it short . Pros : Well , it's 2 God of War games in 1 disc , it's fun , and it's in HD . That pretty much sums it up . The games are kinda short and have little less contents than their 3 bigger brothers , but not by much , so I don't count this as a con . You could finish both games , on Normal difficulty setting , within 10 - 12 hours . Not too short , in my opinion . Cons : - The puzzles can be unclear and get you stuck at times , so are the things you need to do in some boss fights . - The worst enemy is the camera . It's not so bad on Normal , but it will get you killed a lot on God Mode , and also be a part that makes you stuck on puzzles . - Chains of Olympus look just passable . They didn't redo any models or textures . It looks like a Playstation 1.8 game with a better rendering and anti-alias . The shadow casting doesn't look right in places . Ghost of Sparta , on the other hand , looks quite a lot better . In conclusion : If you have never played these 2 games before , go for it . These are bite-sized God of War , but it's definitely a mouthful bite . If you have never played any God of War before , then what have you been waiting for ? NOTES : * * * This doesn't affect the score * * * God Mode in Ghost of Sparta would probably make you want to stab your finger through your ear , and gouge your brain out , Kratos style . I got stuck in one fight for 4 and a half hours , and I haven't been able to get pass it . Playing God Mode and Challenge Mode in both games could extend the play time up to 20 hours or more . Ghost's God Mode is harder than Normal Mode in Ninja Gaiden Sigma . Chains ' God Mode is hard , but not as much . Anyway , that's up to your skills . So if you're a casual gamer , like me , be warned . The frustration could easily turn a normal guy into The Hulk . So , if you love to unlock everything , you'll get your money's worth . Though you may need some anger management sessions later .

      • 005   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) I have to write this review because it deserved to be written and published for worldwide audience . I have played all God of War games except Ghost of Sparta since I no longer own a PSP . At the time when GOS came out I wanted to own and play the game but was thinking it is not worth forking out $ $ $ for a new PSP just to play the game . Contrary some might say it is worth the price and I would agree on that now after just having finish playing GOS on my PS3 ! GOS is Grand and Epic in its entirety . For a PSP game to have such an over the top and jaw dropping visuals and game play for GOS is incredible . I felt like I was playing GOW4 ! Remastered for HD what else GOW fans want ? 2 magnificent games on 1 blu ray and for 40 bucks ! Thats a steal . Chains of Olympus is another stellar game . I used to play this on PSP beating all difficulty levels and I must say that I had a blast ! I had hope I would be able to play it on the big screen . And now ? Big screen with HD visuals it is . I will enjoy this game like I used to enjoyed it . No complaints . Full of praise for Origins Collection . For those who have not played the PSP games , I highly recommend you to get it . Your experience with GOW games will never be the same . Stunningly done for PS3 owners and available for worldwide GOW fans . GOW is the only series that is available on 1 exclusive platform PS3 . 5 GOW games for the PS3 . This is definitely a treat for gamers and especially GOW fans .

      • 007   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) What else to say ? The GoW series is a piece of true beauty , and FINALLY a 3D experience with Kratos . I see that people here have given a lot of decent reviews about this collection , so needless for me to say much about the gameplay itself . I see no one here has written anything about the 3D effect yet , so I would like to share some 3D experiences about these two games . I have played all GoW games on PS3 except for the ghost sparta . I own a Samsung D7000 series 46 ' ' 3DTV , I got this collection on the second day it came out and have gotten platinum trophy on the Chain of Olympus , but I havent touched the ghost of sparta neither have I played it on the PSP . First of all , these two games are in full HD ( 1980 * 1080p ) , but that is if you play it WITHOUT 3D ! When you enable the 3D the graphic degrades a bit into 1280 * 720 and the game becomes just a bit laggy compare to gameplays without 3D . However , the experience is completely different when you do play it in 3D , the depth the 3D offers is simply astonishing . It is like you are looking out of the window and watching Kratos smashing those monsters ! The effect has to be seen to be believed . I also find something that is really interesting and that is , since the 3D adds depth to the graphic , so when Kratos happens to have to jump from a lower level ground to a higher level with a big gap in between ( scenes like you will fall and die if you fail the jump ) , the 3D creates an illusion in which the gap seems a lot wider than it is in 2D , and as a result of that , I fail those jumps so many times simply because the gaps just seem impossible to jump over , and that makes me always look around for props to aid my jumps when in fact it is not necessary . Epic fails on me lol . And also , the 3D in these two games only applies to the gameplay , the in-game movies are still 2D . Anyway , off to my Ghost of Sparta ! ! !

      • 010   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) Origins Collection includes both Chains of Olympus , a prequel to the series , and Ghost of Sparta , which takes place between the first and second games of the series . If you already own Chains of Olympus , then there really isn't much new to look at here . The graphics look clean , the frame rate is constant and smooth , but the fact of the matter is that the new HD look brings out the simple look of the environments . It is worth the price of admission if this is your first time playing it , and while it still remains my second favorite God of War game , the fact of the matter is that right now it is the worst looking game of the saga . Again , not bad by itself , but if you are just buying this collection for the updated graphics and already own Chains of Olympus , then you won't find anything new here . Ghost of Sparta , on the other hand . . . wow . Truth be told , it is my least favorite God of War game , followed closely by the second one , but it still is a fun game . And here is where it shines the most , the game looks amazing , with updated lightning effects , a few retouches on Kratos ' model and an outstanding improvement to the sound quality . Even if you already own Ghost of Sparta ( I do ) , the collection is worth it alone for how good this one looks . To put it simply , it looks better than God of War 2 . So , is this worth it ? Well if this is your first time playing both titles , you'll find that they are both excellent action games . The gameplay and controls are tight , and while the level design and story in Ghost of Sparta feels like a mess , it is not a bad game . Chains of Olympus has better story and dialogue , and while it doesn't look as good as Ghost of Sparta , it looks clean enough and the framerate is a solid 60 per second in both titles . If you already own both titles ( I do ) but got money and time to spare , I recommend it . If this is your first time then , what are you waiting for !

      • 012   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) Since I do not own a PSP I was unable to play God of War : Chains of Olympus ( CoO ) and God of War : Ghost of Sparta ( GoS ) . As a big god of war fan I had to resort to watching an LP of them to get my Kratos fix . But just watching a God of War game isn't enough . The fun is in the gameplay , and that is where both of these games shine brightly . Throw in a very nice HD remastering for the PS3 and Trophy support and you come out with two quality games for a very fair price that should make any God of War fan extremely happy . GAMEPLAY The core of the God of War series , the games have different gameplay styles . For those who have played the PS2 and PS3 releases of the God of War franchise the level of polish between the games fits with the earlier generations of the games . CHAINS OF OLYMPUS feels like a polished God of War ( original ) title . The gameplay is quite similar as well . Not much has changed here when compared to the original , but when you would compare it next to GoW 2 and GoW 3 . . . . CoO then comes across with a slightly dated , unpolished feel . It shows its age in the gameplay mechanics but it is also one of the older titles of the franchise . GHOST OF SPARTA feels like a polished up God of War 2 with many of the gameplay mechanics , including quick time events , taking on the more modern God of War 3 style . Both games of course are a lot of fun to play . Other than some coats of polish and optimization between the games , this is classic God of War action here . Kratos on a rampage destroying everything he touches . Ripping out Cyclops eyes , fighting minotaurs , epic boss fights . . . Both games have that classic God of War level design . You will spend hours running around solving puzzles and fighting monsters only to find you've done a complete circle two times over , BUT in classic God of War fashion it never dawns on you that you have repeated areas . It gives that classic ' God of War / Pandora's Temple ' atmosphere that every game has had since , including the Origins collection . GRAPHICS Between both games there is a clear graphics divide . GoS looks pretty much like God of War 2 remastered . It is crisp and runs great at HD resolution . CoO however time has not been kind to . It looks similar to God of War ( original ) remastered . The game still looks great in HD but there is more sharpness to the textures , and the game comes across dated . That's just visually comparing the two however . . . both games run fantastic in their remastered state ; and while they will not live up to God of War 3 caliber graphics , they do not need too . The graphics are crisp enough to be enjoyable on the eyes and not be a distraction . SOUND / STORY Nothing was spared here , in typical God of War fashion both games have excellent dialogue with top notch voice acting . The storyline in both games are very good , and for fans of God of War it will certainly hit the spot . CHAINS OF OLYMPUS is more of a prequel to God of War , Kratos continuing his servitude of the gods prior to his decision to go nuts on Ares . GHOST OF SPARTA takes place after the original PS2 title , and has Kratos attempting to find his brother whom he finds out is still alive after all these years . Both storylines are handled well and give a satisfying conclusion that ties into God of War storyline , and God of War 2 . REPLAY / LENGTH Both games will share the replay value that you would of felt for God of War , GoW II or GoW III . Once you complete the game you can play it at higher difficulties using unlocked costumes and bonus artifacts ( cheats ) etc . CHAINS OF OLYMPUS is the shorter of the two titles , coming in shorter than GoW II but longer than the original . Playing on Easy or Normal you can polish it off in around 4 - 5 hours . GHOST OF SPARTA however easily clocks in at around 8 - 12 hours depending on difficulty . Of course once you unlock infinte health or magic you can easily go through the games in under 2 - 3 hours for speed runs . Both games contain a Challenge of the Gods , but when compared to God of War and God of War II the challenges felt a bit easy . GHOST OF SPARTA ups the ante with the end game content however . Upon beating the game you can continue to earn Red Orbs at the combat area . Using your red orbs you can unlock bonuses at the Temple of Zeus including 8 additional challenge of the god maps ( Athena challenges ) . Compiling the almost 1,000,000 red orbs needed to unlock everything will net you 8 additional challenge maps , 2 costumes , tons of enemies for the combat arena and lots of artwork and bonus videos . This easily added about 2hrs of gameplay onto the game after completing it . OVERALL 92% ( 9.2 / A - ) At the asking price of $39.99 ( as of 11 / 6 / 2011 ) this comes out to $20 per game in essence . That is well worth the price of admission to play two great God of War games , both having been remastered into HD . The upgrade process definitely improved the visual look of the games , and for those who do not own a PSP , these people ( like myself ) can finally play the two PSP god of War titles . With excellent gameplay and mechanics , great storytelling and voice acting , fans of the God of War series will not be disappointed in this ORIGIN package . NOTE : If you have not played God of War , check out God of War : Collection . This is the remastered GoW and GoW II games . While Chains of Olympus comes first in the story , it doesn't explain to you how Kratos gets his weapons or why he is in service to the gods . Nor does it explain certain visions he has . It could lead to confusion . . . but in some ways it puts some mystery into who is this Kratos person ? which of course then is answered almost immediately by God of War .

      • 018   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) The Gods of Olympus may have abandoned Kratos , but they have smiled upon us PS3 gamers who never found it worthwhile to buy PSPs and , as a result , never got to play God of War : Chains of Olympus or God of War : Ghost of Sparta . This review is dedicated to all non-PSP users who have not yet played these games . We've all been missing out my friends . . . until now . Not only do we finally get to play two great games we didn't have access to before , but we also find out about several plot points in the God of War story that were briefly touched upon in the console games God of War II and God of War III , but never fully explored . Examples include : when Atlas blamed Kratos for chaining him underneath the Earth and leaving him there to carry it on his shoulders when they last met , when Hades cursed Kratos for murdering his wife Persephone , and when Zeus told Gaia that she should not have chosen Kratos to kill him but should have instead chosen the other one . All these loose threads and other questions are dealt with in both Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta . God of War : Chains of Olympus is a prequel that takes place during the 10 year period before the first game . Kratos is still in the service of the gods so he could be rid of the memories involving the death of his family . Once again returning as the narrator , Gaia begins the tale of Kratos ' latest ( or technically earliest ) adventure and we see our favorite white skinned warrior in Attica fighting against an invading Persian army , as well as a large Basilisk the Persians set loose on the city , which of course serves as the big opening boss . It is during these first few moments of gameplay where most players will probably notice the rather inferior graphics to this game , with less detailed environments and character models , as well as more faded colors compared to even the ones in the first God of War . There are a couple of other negatives , but we'll get to those later . Kratos fights his way through the city , slaying Persian soldiers and their rotund emperor , and after a couple of run-ins with the Basilisk , Kratos has a one-on-one battle with the large , fire-breathing lizard and puts an end to it , saving the city of Attica . Suddenly , the sun falls out of the sky and crashes into the earth . Even Kratos went WTF ? when he saw this happen and is soon told by Athena that the sun god Helios and his chariot have somehow been thrown out of the sky , and without the sun god's light every person and god in the world begins to fall under the dark fog of Morpheus . So begins the adventure where Kratos must save the world from Helios ' kidnappers that will test his skills as a warrior , as well as his soul . Chains of Olympus thankfully provides players with what we all would expect from a God of War game originally made for the PSP . Kratos will battle somewhat different versions of his classic mythological enemies such as cyclopses , minotaurs , gorgons , satyrs , and some large saber tooth tiger creatures , although the maximum number of different enemy types falls a bit short compared to the other games . There are five boss battles ( with one boss being fought twice ) and they're all done rather well ; the final boss is appropriately epic and challenging . As you would expect , QTEs are implemented to have Kratos rip his enemies apart , open large gates , push down pillars and statues , and of course make the women cry out his name in satisfaction while between the sheets . Also to be expected are the large number of weapons and abilities Kratos gets his hands on . He still wields the original Blades of Chaos , followed by the ability to summon a fiery demon to incinerate surrounding enemies ( Efreet ) , the ability to shoot scorching blasts of light ( Light of Dawn ) , a shield that lets him deflect enemy attacks and projectiles ( Sun Shield ) , a large and powerful gauntlet that can smash enemies and objects ( Gauntlet of Zeus ) , and a mask that can shoot out continuously burning green fire ( Charon's Wrath ) . Fun and challenging puzzles involving lever pulling and statue pushing also return to make up the rest of the gameplay . One little negative point about the game aside from the toned down graphics are how some button prompts that pop up on the screen when Kratos is killing enemies will appear late or not at all ( though thankfully not too often ) , or when Kratos slightly oversteps a save point or a point of interaction the accompanying button prompt will disappear . The game will also pause at times right before a cutscene starts . These are rather minor annoyances that in the end are all acceptable considering this was first made on the PSP , so taking into account what the developers had to work with , they did an awesome job transferring the great story , gameplay , and controls of this game to the PS3 . God of War : Chains of Olympus just doesn't quite make it to the same level of overall greatness achieved by the other games in the series , but it's mostly because of the smaller enemy variety and the fact that it's not until halfway through that the story and the gameplay really get into high gear . Make no mistake , this is still a very good God of War game . If I were to rate this game on its own , I'd give it 4 stars overall and 4 stars for fun . God of War : Ghost of Sparta takes place after the first God of War and before God of War II . This game opens with Kratos sitting on his newly acquired throne of the God of War ( with Gaia once again narrating ) , but Kratos ' nightmarish memories still haunt his every waking moment . Amidst these memories Kratos also sees visions which are connected to the memories of his mother Callisto and his brother Deimos . The visions tell Kratos that the answers he seeks regarding the fate of his family can be found in the city of Atlantis , so he sets sail to the fabled city against the wishes of Athena . On the way there , his ship is attacked by the undersea monster and opening boss Scylla ( which bears more than a passing resemblance to the Cloverfield monster ) . Kratos ' ship is destroyed and as he lands on the shores of Atlantis , he has to deal with repeated encounters with Scylla as well as the trident wielding fish-soldiers of Poseidon , but this is just the first step in Kratos ' latest adventure involving tons of bloodshed and action . Ghost of Sparta basically took everything from Chains of Olympus and greatly improved upon it . The graphics look great , they even surpass those of the first God of War and nearly match those of God of War II . A lot of the same types of enemies from Chains of Olympus like minotaurs , cyclopses , satyrs , and undead soldiers appear , as well as some new ones like big walking , armored automatons ( robots ) and incredibly annoying female wraiths who slash and shriek at Kratos incessantly . There are six boss battles , most of them very epic encounters against large and deadly monsters . To deal with them all Kratos has his trusty Blades of Athena , followed by an amulet that lets him fire a blast of electricity ( Eye of Atlantis ) , a relic that can create small portal rifts that continually damage enemies ( Scourge of Erinys ) , a Spartan spear and shield that can be used to attack enemies up close and at a distance ( Arms of Sparta ) , and a horn that can create a freezing gust of wind ( Horn of Boreas ) . Kratos also gets the ability to charge his blades with volcanic fire that causes extra fire damage on enemies and can be used to destroy armored enemies and obstacles ( Thera's Bane ) ; this ability has its own regenerating meter separate from the magic meter . The combat and quick time events have been given that extra bit of oomph that was somewhat lacking in Chains of Olympus , whether it's during one of Kratos ' many past times like slicing up enemies , opening big doors , or making the beast with two backs ( or in this case , multiple backs ) . There are noticeably less puzzles in this game compared to all the other ones . Kratos still pushes around many blocks and pulls many levers , but they're mostly straightforward affairs simply to reach higher ledges or open large gates . The headscratching puzzles that appear here and there in the other games , such as moving specific statues to specific spots to reflect beams of light to a certain point or pushing blocks together into a sort of jigsaw puzzle formation , are all pretty much absent in this game . I'm sure some of you guys will not like the removal of these puzzles and others might even be happy : I personally don't love it or hate it , but it was somewhat refreshing . It makes Ghost of Sparta more of a non-stop thrill ride , since between all the combat and platforming we get certain set-pieces involving Kratos using his blades to slide down steep cliffs and timing a jump to a distant platform or even a boss character . On its own , God of War : Ghost of Sparta would get 5 stars overall and 5 stars for fun ; it's definitely a contender with the other console God of War games . Here's what we've got : TWO great God of War games that come with what we all would expect from God of War , as well as some new touches here and there , not to mention answers to all the questions left over from the three main games . Even the extras from the other games like combat arenas and challenges come with this godly package . And we get all of this for just $40.00 right off the bat . If you haven't gotten in on this already , then you are NOT a true God of War fan . Before Kratos lays his vengeance upon you , pick this up .

      • 020   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) First , I have not played these games before on PSP . I just finished both games and here are my thoughts : Chains of Olympus : I was really impressed with this overall . When I thought that it started as a PSP game , I was even more impressed . This game must have been pretty hot stuff on that system . It looks good , plays well and was definitely fun . As another reviewer pointed out , the story was forgettable and I am literally having problems remembering it , even though I finished it 2 days ago . The cut-scenes are not in high-definition , and look blurry , but this is a minor concern . It was pretty easy . I was well over halfway into the game before I died for the first time . Ghost of Sparta : This game was awesome ! I loved the story and it feels integral to the series . I actually felt a little ripped-off because I never got the chance to play it before . The cut-scenes are at a much higher resolution than the Chains of Olympus scenes . The gameplay is great and I really enjoyed the final battle scenes . It's hard to believe it began as a portable game . There is no question that Ghost of Sparta is the better of the two games in terms of visuals , gameplay and story . Complaints would be that both games have some unskippable cut-scenes and sometimes if you die you have to watch the entire scene again before you can get another chance in the battle . If you consider yourself a fan of the God of War franchise and Kratos , you should definitely play these games !

      • 028   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) for the price its not a bad deal .

      • 031   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) God of War is a series I love to follow . I have played the previous three since they first came out for the PS2 then the PS3 for the latest one . If you are looking for the fill-in-the-gaps story , this collection will do it for you . Chains of Olympus will take you through the events that happen right before God of War part one . For a port-over , the game doesn't look too bad . If you have played the first HD remake , you will notice it is about par with that one , graphics wise . It may be a touch lower . That would probably be expected since it was originally for a little hand-held PSP . The sound quality is ok . The game play is what you would expect from the series : Good old hack and slash . The story is probably the least desirable of the two . It is kind of bland . There are points here and there where it may grab your attention though . Overall , I would give Chains of Olympus an 7 . Ghost of Sparta will probably interest you the most if you watched any of the extras they had from God of War part one . They have the two main story lines that really grabbed my attention while watching the extras : Kratos ' mother and brother . It's like a family reunion . The story for Ghost may be one of the best out of the five console games . The graphics definitely look better than Chains . The sound is about the same as Chains though . The game play is pretty much the same as well . However , the one thing I did like was the change in weapon types . Overall , I would give Ghost of Sparta a solid 9 . Both games are pretty short . Chains of Olympus was definitely the shorter of the two . I was not only able to beat Chains in two days but I think I got the Platinum trophy in two days as well . If you have a big time frame where you are free , you may be able to beat this game in one sitting . Ghost of Sparta was a little harder and longer ( heehee ) . It may take you more time to get through . I would rate the collection , as a whole , a solid 8 .

Both have been ported to Playstation 3 with excellent control adjustments . The 3 - D effects add a new twist to these Playstation classics . Two solid games , well worth the price .

Recomendadisimo !

But missed out on playing Chains and Ghost cause the PSP really never intrigued me . Thank god for the recent craze for remaster games . Enjoyed playing GOW1 and GOW2 all over again on the PS3 . . Both Chains and Ghost are good games . . think Ghost was superior to Chains in terms of story and gameplay . . If you are a GOW fan , this is a no brainer - buy this game ! ! If you have never played GOW - What the heck is wrong with you ? ! Highly recommended !

I already own both of them on PSP and can't recommend them enough . This HD collection is the best way for people to play them . Trophy support , 3D support , and excellent remastered graphics . This is an absolute must buy for any PS3 owner .

I have understood , that it is extracted of the original one of the PSP and for that reason , I explain myself that it is a short version , if we compared it with the other versions that created for the PS3 . Nevertheless , this does not clear to him that he himself contains an excellent plot and history . Excellent game !

If you are a God of Ware fan then this collection is a must ! I never played the PSP version of these games , but thankfully this remastered HD collection came out . Even if you have I suggest investing in this as well . The controls are tailored to what GoW should be and now you can utilize a big screen to view the stunning visuals . Everything was fantastic , the storyline , the new weapons introduced , the epic bosses , the plot twists , and new areas of the world visited . I'm a huge fan of this series and if you are too , then get this collection immediately .

      • 056   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) God of War Chains of Olympus , and God of War Ghost of Sparta were both for the PSP . Now it comes out for the PS3 in HD , in one Blu-Ray disc title called God of War : Origins Collection . Chains of Olympus you play as Kratos before the events of the first God of War . So Kratos will be still serving the gods . He's sent in to help stop a Persian invasion . The Persians are using a giant basilisk to help . Like God of War fashion , you battle it throughout parts of the level . Similar to the Hydra in GOW1 . After your battle you learn that the gods are in trouble , and the world has turned dark . You go through the Sun God's temple , to Hades , and Tartarus as some of the locations . The story is not the best of the GOW's , but it's ok . You also learn a lot about the titans imprisonment in Tartarus . Some of the enemies are hard to dodge unlike in the previous games . Namely the panther type creature , and the undead with the twin swords . There seems to be a slight delay for the dodge move . You can parry in this game . Ever since GOW2 gave you the golden fleece , it's the standard for the rest of the GOW's . Zeus's gauntlet , that you collect in you weaponry , is a close range weapon that deals tons of damage . You don't get this early on unfortunatly , and it's too bad . God of War Ghost of Sparta has improved much more than Chains of Olympus . You are on a search for your brother who was also mentioned in GOW1 . He was taken away , and you find out why on your journey to find him . The gods do not want Kratos to go , but of course he refuses them . You travel a lot more here than in Chains of Olympus locations . You might remember the ship level in GOW1 . You start the game sailing again . A giant sea creature chases you from the ocean to even on land . Yes , another giant monster in the beginning . This one will show up a good number of times . There are many different levels here ranging from the city of Atlantis , a lava mountain , snowy areas , and even Kratos's city of Sparta . If you've played the previous GOW's , you'll realize quickly in the game why he's so desparate to save his brother . There are a lot of reasons . There are flash back events in the game that give you a little more insight each time . The story is my second favorite to GOW2 as first . The combat is improved here as well from Chains of Olympus . The dodge button responds good again . The twins sword enemies are back , and still have lightning fast attacks . So it's best to just keep them at a range and attack . In here Kratos will be able to arm himself with the Spartan spear and shield . You can throw spears here without selecting in a menu to do so . The melee range is not as good as your double blades , but it can finish enemies faster . The combos are somewhat slow as well . But if you put together different throwing attacks with a combination for close combat , it's a great weapon . The developers have learned from the mistakes of Chains of Olympus , and it shows with Ghost of Sparta . The Blu-Ray disc is a buy for Ghost of Sparta alone . Chains would just be a bonus . It's still a decent game . It's really a plus going from the small PSP screen to a bigger HD screen to play these games .

      • 059   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) This game is the ultimate god of war game .
      • 061   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) About 5 years ago , game systems weren't even in the top thousand things on my list of things to get . That was until my brother-in-law let me try God Of War at his house on his PS2 . Two days later , I had a PS2 so that I could finish that game . Then for Christmas a few years back , my wife purchased a PS3 for me . I put my PS3 in our 4 season porch with a stationary bike and ride while I play . Anyway , so when I heard that the Origins Collection was coming out , I ordered it right away . I didn't want to play GOW3 before I beat GOW2 . I played the first one , then the second one and finally as a gift to myself , I purchased the third one . The first thing I noticed about the Origins collection was the picture was much more clear and the sound was times better than the PS2 version . Also , I liked that both games are on the same disc . Obviously , that means that you sacrifice something since the 3rd one is on a disc of its own , but I felt that the picture and sound quality upgrades were exactly what I wanted them to be . I am very happy I purchased these games .

      • 078   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) This is a great package for all GOW fans that didn't get a PSP and longed to play the two handheld games on their PS3 ' s like me . Both games are truly epic and great storytelling , with Ghost of Sparta really tying in a lot of loopholes . Of course , graphics have been ported from a handheld , meaning they're not going to challenge GOW3 by any means , but the developers have done an amazing job porting over to the PS3 . Things are clearer , edges crisper and textures better rendered , most evident in Ghost of Sparta since it's the most recent game in the series . The games are somewhat short , but they're amazing . A must buy for any GOW fanboy .

      • 083   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) If you haven't played a God of War game yet , you're really missing out . Regardless of the system you're using , GOW titles are simply the best games available . I bought the first GOW soon after it's release on the P2 , and it changed my gaming life forever . I've since bought every new title as soon as it's released ( usually on pre-order ) and have never been disappointed . Unfortunately , I don't own a PSP . I've dabbled in the portable gaming area before ( Gameboy , DS , Lynx ) and I've never really liked gaming on portable consoles . I find them too limiting , like a lite version of home consoles . With that said , I've really debated back and forth on buying a PSP strictly for Chains of Olympus . When Ghost of Sparta came out , I was in a real quandry . I still couldn't validate buying a whole new system I knew I wouldn't use just for 2 games , not when I could just replay GOW 3 ( which is simply the best game every made , period - and never loses replayability , I've completed it 5 times so far and keep going back for more ) . Then something magical happened . CoO and GoS were released for the P3 . Oh happy day ! Not only were they remastered for HD output ( which , they did a fantasic job of by the way ) , but they were combined into a single blu-ray disc at the bargain price of $40 . There is a God , afterall . I just finished CoO . I'll jump into GoS tonight . The only complain I have - it's too short . Obviously something has to give , being it's release on a portable system . And don't get me wrong , I'm glad they sacrificed length over graphics or gameplay . But , it did leave me wanting more . But don't they all ? If you like any of the other GOW titles , this is a must-have .

      • 086   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) 2 of the PSP's best , beautifully updated in HD and running at 60fps . This is not a quick and easy HD port - this is an all out optimization for the PS3 and it shows . I had both PSP games and traded them in for this - I'm totally satisfied , exceeded my expectations . If you like God of War or that style of game even remotely , you'll enjoy this .

      • 092   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) MAN ! I remember when I first bought GOW 3 without thinking it twice . BOY , I WAS STUPID ! It was one of the biggest dissappointing popular videogame sequels since Twisted Metal 3 . Now that we finally have this two remastered GOW games from the PSP , it made me forget all about that horrible third PS3 sequel . Both games are pretty easy and a little short in comparison to the first two games . The graphics are a little inferior to the previous games but DUH ! they were originally made for the PSP . Both games are LOADED WITH ACTION , FUN , AND EXCITEMENT , but I do think that GOW Ghost of Sparta is WAY BETTER than GOW Chains of Olympus . Ghost of Sparta is a TERRIFIC sequel to GOW 1 ! The fun factor is pretty similar to the second game . In other words , if you though that GOW 2 was a BLAST ! then take a look at this one . Chains of Olympus is a good prequel to GOW 1 . The fun factor is pretty much the same as the first game , I mean . . . the best parts of the game are set at the beginning and at the end . Is not so good as GOW 1 but it's sure fun to play it . In conclusion , if you are a hardcore fan of God of War then I can quickly say go buy it ! . Now , if you are only looking for the most exciting GOW game then stick with GOW 2 or GOW Collection ( GOW 1 & 2 for PS3 ) . Adios .

      • 094   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) Excellent port of the two classic PSP games to the PS3 ! The games have a few issues though . 1 ) . They both aren't really 4.3 apsect ratio compatible . The screen look's a little squished in but it doesn't affect the gameplay . 2 ) . There are also some lighting issues in Chain's of Olympus . Nothing to interfere with the actual gameplay of the game though ! : )

      • 102   This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) I've played all three GoW titles on the PS2 / 3 , with the first two the best in terms of originality , story , and fun . The third was not bad , however the gameplay was starting to get stale which the excellent graphics partially made up for . Now you have two PSP games on one disk . The first game Chains of Prometheus looks dated . Story totally forgettable . Gamplay was so-so , though the introduction of an actually useful secondary weapon changed it up to keep it interesting . The second Ghost of Sparta definitely looks better . It introduces some welcome gameplay changes by adding environmental challenges . However there are incredibly annoying gameplay elements that are present from Chains like : 1 . Kratos having attacks that once started cannot be stopped by the user . One in particular is linked to the block button so if you accidentally press attack he will start spinning around and leave himself open to getting whacked . 2 . Mobs having unstoppable attacks . Boss type and large type creatures I can understand this feature . However there are other mobs ( dual-wielding skeletons in particular ) that have this feature and coupled with the first flaw can cause major frustration . 3 . Poor placement of checkpoint locations . Instead of putting you back right before the fight where you died , you are frequently put in locations further back that may require recollecting chests or opening doors . Or the worse , right before a cutscene which cannot be skipped . Do I need to explain how rage-inducing this can be after the second attempt at an encounter ? I finished Chains but got fed up playing Sparta and traded it back in to Amazon . Sure I could have finished it , but I stopped when I felt like I was just trying to grind through the game instead of enjoying it .

      • 104   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) Ok . . . now I just put this game on order today after downloading the demo from the PSN . Yes , God Of War is a phenomenal series and every single entry in it has been an absolute blast and arguably classic in terms of genre defining moments . But , after seeing this thing in 3D . . . JESUS . . there are literally no words to describe what goes on onscreen . From the incredible boss battles to things as simple as Kratos seemingly swinging from out of to into the screen . . . mind-blowing . I own every single game that has 3D capabilities on the PS3 , and , to be quite honest , up until this title I was less than impressed . But this game truly shows what we have to look forward to with the next generation of 3D gaming . And for everyone that reviewed this game without playing it in 3D because you don't have a 3D HDTV , find someone who does and update your review . Don't hate on the game because you don't have a 3D television and , for that matter , don't quote Roger Ebert's disdain for the medium as a means to justify your own misguided dislike for 3D gaming . Not that I'm being judgmental of those who choose to formulate a conclusion based on someone Else's opinion but , really ? ? Come on now , stop believing what other people say negatively about a game and find out the truth for yourself . If the demo is even a fraction of what the entire collection presents ( and of course it is . . . ) then , this is truly gaming at it's best . Glad I was an early adopter of a 3D television . . PEACE .

      • 107   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) Been waiting awhile for this collection to come out since I never owned a PSP but thanks to sony we are able to get both PSP god of war games in 1 disc for 40 bucks is quite a steal !

      • 110   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : God of War : Origins Collection ( Video Game ) The God of War franchise is amazing and Sony hit gold with this series alone . The only reason I bought a PSP ( a God of War PSP ) was for God of War Chains of Olympus and God of War Ghost of Sparta , not to mention God of War 3 which was a big deciding factor in buying a PS3 , for me anyways . When I received God of War Origins I couldn't wait to pop it in and check it out even though I already knew what to expect game wise . When I fired the game up and seen what was on my screen I was amazed at how well the graphics and colors stood out on the screen Sony did a nice job there cleaning it up to make the games look beautiful in HD and the sound is nice and crystal clear and comes at you through the speakers . I would recommend this game to anyone or the series for that matter . You have puzzles , magic , tons of different weapons and Kratos a guy who doesn't take crap from anyone . The story is well written and the narration of the story is a nice touch I've always liked that . You will get immersed into the story and feel like Kratos time will fly when you are playing this game . A must buy .

You can evade with the right anlog stick thats a major plus , the graphics are quite frankly better to me than God of War 1& 2 remastered . . They're not the biggest games but both of them together would equal up to a full size ps3 game . Its well worth it so I would check it out

I am really excited about getting mine from very slow UPS but since I have both already on PSP , I pretty much now what I am getting . This is totally worth getting for the money cause now if you have never played the PSP versions then YES it will blow you away on how good they both are . I'm just glad that I can finally play on my big screen TV so that I can see everything really well since some of those puzzles are tough . I've played both of them and beat them both twice so if you love GoW then you will have bought this in a minute like I did when you found out about it and still look for more GoW which I hope is coming soon , . . . maybe 1 day .
