Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy

  • 048   Exotic new stages and bgm to the game . I like how this game lets you get add-on skins , like the Aya Brea costume from The 3rd Birthday for Lightning Farren and the new costumes available in the PP store . When getting FFDD and having data from the first FF Dissidia , your equipment , accessories and summons do not go with the transfer data . The tournament or robin-round feature is great , especially in labyrinth mode . Overall this game is extremely fun especially if you like playing with your favorite heroes or villians from the previous FF series .
    • 042   Who cares about the graphic is not perfect ! The fact that I can use character from FFXI and the dragoon from FFIV . . . . has already give me organism !

  • 057   This was an excellent follow up to the the first game in that the mechanics that made the first game so addictive were included in this game with only minor tweaks . Furthermore , the little additions , like the world map , make the game feel a bit more open-ended . Even though the story isn't fantastic , the extra characters and minor additions make this well worth the purchase price .
    • 073   This was very well protected in a thick cardboard box that kept the game in place so it wouldn't break . It is a great game if your looking for a game with action and an Ok story .

  • 060   this game is amazing . . . . way better than the first part . . i just think they should have clashed everyone together instead of focusing on just Lightning , Vaan , Laguna , Tifa , and Kain . . . . . other than that this game is really good
    • 036   The game in itself is amazing . You will not be bored with the new layouts that they tried with this game . A word of the wise : if you already bought the first dissidia , there is not much difference other than a few new characters . Other than that it was a good game to play .
    • 076   for 30 $ yea it a good game i mean come on everythimh the first one had wit a lil more good buy

  • Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) * Newly revised review * : I have caught a lot of flack for this review , so I have decided to follow up and it seems that I must also post the following disclaimer : All of the reviews I post are solely my opinion without being watered down by what others think , or what companies may tell us is a great product . If you don't like my review , you don't have to read it . If you like the product then by all means buy it . I hate to give a Final Fantasy game a low score ( I do own it , I have played it ) , but this time it's my opinion that to release an epic game on a tiny handheld is a FAIL on all levels , as it simply becomes bland ! I feel that the game was never given a fair chance to appeal to a large audience due to the company's choice to release release it on an inferior console . I don't necessarily want it on PS3 , I just want it on ANY console worth playing . It had serious potential that was squandered on the PSP , ( kind of like Crisis Core ) . The game is LIMITED graphically by the constraints of console and it just fails to immerse me . Certain people think that I am giving the wrong impression by giving this game 1 star ( which is MY REVIEW of the game ) , how about the people giving it 5 ? How is that less misleading ?

  • Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) > > The Premise Dissidia Duodecim , for the uninitiated , is a 3 - D , real-time brawler featuring most of the main protagonists and antagonists of the entire Final Fantasy series . Battles are frenetic , acrobatic , and - - while seemingly shallow at first - - offer deep strategy and customization . It's a lot like Super Smash Bros . for the Final Fantasy series , except it's one-on-one and 3 - D . What this means is that , just like Smash Bros . , Dissidia provides tons of secrets , unlockables , fan service , and content . Players unfamiliar with Final Fantasy will get considerably less mileage out of Dissidia than fans of even one game in the series , but there's still a solid brawler in here with serious RPG trappings . > > The Gameplay Brawls play out in a similar manner : Prowl around your enemy and use the circle button to nail them with Bravery attacks , which don't do damage , but increase your Bravery meter . The higher your Bravery meter , the more damage you'll deal when you finally hit the square button and unleash an HP attack . The point , ultimately , is to whittle away your opponent's HP , using a mix of Bravery and HP attacks , until they're defeated . Mixed in with this is a lot of dodging , rolling , flying around , blocking , explosions , and magic . Battles earn you EXP , which in turn levels you up , which in turn allows you learn new Bravery and HP attacks . This is where the RPG foundations of Final Fantasy come into play , allowing you to equip new moves , items , summons , and accessories in an attempt to give you the upper hand while duking it out . > > The Verdict Dissidia Duodecim brings enough new content to the table that returning fans should definitely take a look , even if they've poured hundreds of hours into the first game . Folks who have played even one game in the Final Fantasy series and are curious about this title should definitely give it a spin . If you liked the first Dissidia , you'll love this sequel - - it's bigger , better , quicker , and deeper than the first . If you never liked the first Dissidia , however , this one won't convert you . Fans of brawlers should also take a look , even if they're unfamiliar with Final Fantasy . Dissidia Duodecim is a standout title on the PSP , and offers a huge amount of bang for the buck . > > What's New * Characters : Lightning , Kain , Tifa , Yuna , Laguna , Vaan , and a few others all come to the roster with new fighting styles that are fun and unique . So far , I've played heavily as Lightning , Tifa , and Yuna , and their new styles fit right in to Dissidia perfectly . * Stages : A handful of new stages have been introduced to coincide with the additions to the character roster . Orphan's Cradle from FFXIII looks and plays great , and there are several other new stages that provide a welcome change in environment . For now , though , it only seems like there are 3 or 4 new stages . * Moves : Returning characters have a few new tricks up their sleeves to mix things up . * Music : New tunes have been added - - not only for games like FFXIII and FFXII , which weren't represented it the first Dissidia , but it also seems as if at least one new song has been included from all the previous games as well . Menu BGM has been remixed slightly . The music , both new and old , sounds wonderful . * Assists : Pick your character , then pick any other character on the roster to be your assist buddy when you need help . Assist characters can be assigned in the customization screen , similar to how accessories , equipment , and summons are assigned . You can fight without assist characters , but it's worth it to have one along for some flashy help during a brawl . There are Bravery assists and HP assists , and both should be used judiciously : Although it's easy to fill up the Assist meter , it's also easy to use an Assist at the wrong time and waste an opportunity . Each character offers a different skillset for assists , so it's important to consider your own fighting style and bring along the right assist character in order to maximize your strategy . * Story Mode : Much improved over the original , the Story mode in Dissidia Duodecim now offers an expansive overworld to explore in between the familiar , grid-based battle levels from the first game . There are lots of secrets , treasure chests , wandering foes , and moogle shops in the overworld , making it an awesome addition to this sequel . Cutscenes are done better , and the new scenario featuring all six of the new characters is great . * Party Free Battle : Create teams of up to five characters to take into tournament-style or round robin battles . Assign a Class to each character to receive stat bonuses , then unlock temporary new classes that are more powerful as you progress through each battle . * Creation Mode : This mode is truly the highlight of the game for me - - I'm very impressed by it . Creation Mode allows you to create your own quest scenarios , including static cutscenes and custom fights , which you can then share with friends . You can also save , edit , and watch replays in this mode , which offers a surprisingly robust Theater mode similar to Halo 3 or Halo Reach . Pause the replay , move the camera around , take screenshots , cut and string together the video , and then convert your masterpiece to an . avi that can be uploaded to your computer ! Awesome ! I've spent hours playing around in this mode , and expect to spend many hours more . * Gameplay tweaks : The AI seems tougher in Battle Mode , but battles feel much more responsive and smooth . Unlockable items and equipment seem to come along much more frequently after every battle compared to the first game , which makes fights more rewarding . Assists add a great new layer of strategy to battles . > > What's Familiar * Characters : All the familiar faces from the first Dissidia reprise their roles and fighting styles here . * Stages : All the stages from the first game are available in this sequel as well . * Music : All the music of the first game makes a welcome return * Gameplay : The core gameplay remains unchanged . Aside from the addition of Assists , brawls are still very similar to the first Dissidia , though more responsive . Leveling up is still the same , and the Customization screen with the cute little chocobo is the same as in the first game . Don't fix what ain't broke , right ? > > Pros : + Gameplay feels a little tighter and more responsive than in the first game . + Graphics seem a little better . + New characters , stages , and music are great additions to the game . + New cutscenes in Story mode seem as if they're a little better written , better acted , and better directed than in the first . + The overworld in Story mode is awesome , and fairly large . + The ability to import your save from the first Dissidia means any old characters you leveled up will retain their skills and levels in this game . You can also choose to import your save without bringing over the leveling you've accrued . + Creation mode is a stunning and excellent new mode for those who like to make their own movies , screenshots , and quests . + The ability to save replays as . avi files that can be uploaded to a computer ( and played from your PSP's video folder ) is a truly awesome feature . ( Be sure to turn on Replays in the Options mode , first . ) + Assists are a great addition to battles . + The data install feature helps cut load times ( installing the maximum of 814 MB cuts load times by about 75% - - but it takes about 2 hours to install ) . The install sizes include 492MB , 574MB , and 814MB . + The game is overwhelmingly deep , and offers a huge amount of content for a great price - - even for those who spent tons of hours in the first Dissidia . + Battlegen items are much easier to create in Duodecim . > > Cons : - Load times seem to be a few seconds longer in this game than in the first . Even with a maximum data install , loads take just a second or three longer here than after installing data in the first game . The wait is noticeable compared to the first game , but certainly not terrible . - It's still easy to get stuck in cheap juggle moves by the computer , but Assists help alleviate this issue by letting your Assist character take the hits for you , if needed . - Still no infrastructure mode . With the ability to create custom quests and edited replays , it's too bad there's no online portal to share your creations . You can still battle and share with friends using Ad-Hoc mode , but a true online mode would certainly have been welcome . > > Things to note : * Dissidia 012 [ Duodecim ] Final Fantasy is the sequel / prequel to Dissidia Final Fantasy . If you're looking to get a Dissidia game , get this one , not the first , because Duodecim includes all the stuff from the first game , plus a ton more .

    • 003   This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) First off , at 30 dollars , this game is a steal . There is simply so much you can do even after you finish the story mode . Secondly , while it looks a lot like the first Dissidia , there are plenty of tweaks that make for a better game play experience . Here's a quick list of some significant changes the game presents . - New characters like Lightning , Kain , Yuna and Tifa . - Chases require you to be on the ball at all times . If you're trying to guess whether you're going to either throw or receive an HP or Bravery attack , it's already too late and the chase is over . - When entering EX mode in the middle of an attack , you are able to break the attack and slow down time for approximately five to six seconds . As a result , your EX meter is depleted , but you are free to unleash an HP attack upon your opponent . - Characters have been balanced and tweaked . For example , Cloud can now use meteorain in midair instead of just on the ground . - New stages and costumes . - Story mode now has an overworld map that you run around in with your character to travel from the various battle stages . This makes story mode a much fresher experience so you aren't simply a game piece on a board going from battle to battle . - Custom events . There are probably a significant amount of features that I have yet to find in this game as well . Finally , those of you that have invested hundreds of hours into Dissidia 1 can move over much of what you had to Dissidia Duodecim . Levels , items bought with PP , ect ect . So please ignore the other two misinformed reviewers on this page . Dissidia 2 is a Final Fantasy fan's dream come true . . . . again !

    • 005   This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) So yes , This game I have been waiting for for such a long time . I am glad that I got it . It is almost like I am playing a different game from the first . Now there are some good and bad to this game . Now if you have ever played draonball z budakai , there are cut scenes during the game where its a one button dodge or attack that will have you and the opponent go back and forth until someone is actually hit , well it was in the first Dissidia and easy to anticipate the opponent but now its HARDER , I mean harder . . . . . Love the new characters , Love that they updated the old characters with new moves . the storyline is not something you would buy this game for . Its not even good . But hell the last storyline wasn't good either . I will say if you thought you needed strategy for the last game now this one gets even crazier . Some of the new features include new assist . this assist feature is kind of like marvel vs capcom and just blows me away on both ends , being the one hit with an assist and being the one hitting someone with an assist . they have new modes as well . I wish more people brought into this game because every time I go online no one is there lol : - ( . say bye bye to Duelist coliseum from the first dissidia and say hello to labyrinth . From what I know , Labyrinth is like a maze and I believe the opponents get harder and harder ? ? ? ? ? You can also play the original story ( for those who never got it ) on this game as well . Yay for new comers , bad for us Pros lol . the only good for us pros is u get reports with every story mode completed , basically new cutscenes and possible battles that will mesh characters from original game and this game together ( ex . Tifa ( new character ) in a scene with Cloud and Sephiroth ) Overall I cant put this game down . your PSP collecting dust and you been waiting for a good fighting game to keep you going , This is the one

    • 007   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) I didn't play more than a few hours of the first Dissidia , so keep that in mind for this review . Once you get over the learning curve , this game is exceptional - far better than I expected when I purchased it . - Overworld map is extremely fun to mess around with . You can collect treasure chests , shop from Moogle shops , smash open boulders and slide around to nearby islands , and even engage roaming enemies and try to secure a sneak attack . I've seen some reviews saying that it's kind of bare-bones , but I can't really think of any other traditional world maps that let you even do that much . It's a simple , pleasant addition to the fighting gameplay . - The new characters are all great , and they all play very differently . - Quest creation mode , where you can write your own dialogue for custom quests . - Amazing soundtrack loaded with hits from all the games , and a few original ones . - The whole first Dissidia campaign is on here as well . You could easily put in 100 + hours leveling up everyone and purchasing all of the collectibles . I would go so far as to say that this is the best single player fighting game ever made . No other fighting game's one player mode offers as much content , that is as fun to go through . In competitive play , I could easily see some balance issues cropping up , but single player this is as good as it gets . The story is not great , but it didn't ever prevent my enjoyment of the game . Parts of it are fairly dark , despite the cheesy dialogue .

    • 010   This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) To start off the review I really thing it should have been called Dissidia Final Fantasy Final Mix or something along those lines also I will score the new characters from 1 to 5 Postives 1.9 new characters Tifa 5 / 5 Very fast with BRV attack and has amazing Hp attacks and gernal movement Laguna 4 / 5 Has good moves some are hard to hit but you can easily barrage foe with some of he's moves mostly the explosives , also he's machine gun needs to reload Vaan 5 / 5 I was very surpise how good he was everyone of he's weapones has two combos also has 4 Hp moves but are all good Lighting 5 / 5 They used all of her moves from FF13 she is fast with BRV moves and you can easily switch from her styles , also has great HP attacks Yuna 4 / 5 same has the others great BRV attacks and very useful Hp attacks just alittle slow with movement Kain 5 / 5 fast and has amazing BRV attacks but some of his Hp lack range and Didn't play with the others yet 2 . previous characters have new costumes and most of their old moves have slightly new looks 3 . The new characters have an 8 chapters story of the 12th cycle 4 . The Cutscence are way better done 5 . Assist can be vey useful when used at the right moment 6 . The new music was well chosen like fleeting dream from ff10 and jenova from ff7 7 . New areas to fight in 8 . Battlegen are easy to get this time 9 . Dissidia orginal story is in this one 10 . you can spend hours a day on this games I usually play 8 hours a day and have 75 hours total 11 . An open map other than than checker board crap Negatives 1 . I was hoping that each returning character would have an 12 cycle story they don't 2 . Its great that every character has new moves but only one they should have each gotten 1 new HP move and 2 new Brv one ground the other Air 3 . More characters ! I don't like waiting 2 years for 10 characters 5 more would have been perfect 4 . In the open world map I would have like to see it alot bigger than it is 5 . More in the story mode it's cool that their is the first dissidia story , it should have had more on the 12 cycle story Like I said before it is a great games but it has a few problems

This game is like a 3D fighting RPG . Graphics are proabaly one of the best of the psp games . Story wise I think it lacks because it isn't very interesting to me . The sound quality of the game is also up there with the graphics but not as good . But overall it is a good game .

    • 015   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) Honestly this game didn't feel like another game in the series , it felt like an expansion to the original Dissidia . I remember being so excited that it would include not only the new Duodecim , but also would somehow have the room for the original Dissidia as well . Then , after a few hours , I beat Duodecim's new story and only had the reworkings of the original Dissidia to play . Let me try and break it down . - Story - Essentially you get a prequel that clarifies some things about the previous war , but it feels so . . . shallow and doesn't do a great job with the storytelling . It was interesting enough for me to want to play through it , but it didn't keep me invested in it . It was predictable and short . However , once you beat it you can play through the original Dissidia ( though it's now updated to play like Duodecim's unique story ) and when you do you get a bit more story than the original game had , so that was nice . For instance , the characters have some more dialogue between each other in some parts now , fleshing things out a small amount . - Gameplay - Some characters got tweaked , some were updated with new moves , and others had moves taken away ( Bartz for instance ) . The new characters did add some new spin to it , but that could've been DLC and it would've been fine . Not much has changed other than that , battle-wise at least . Equipment / Accessories are far less potent now , for better or worse . I loved the fighting mechanics so much that I played the original game for over a year - straight - , so I didn't mind that they didn't change the actual battles , but I didn't like how they gutted the equipment here . Plus , when you import your saves , you don't get to transfer things like ultimate weapons , so have fun rounding up the parts for your Lionheart , Ultima Weapon , Fenrir , and so on , because they make you do it all over again . In story mode , the gameplay has changed . Instead of each level going from a board game-type of dungeon to the next , you get to run around a kind of mini-world in-between dungeons . I actually thought that was a pretty cool idea as it opens it up a bit and gives at least a small amount of exploration . Random enemies roam around as well as white lights that , upon collecting three , give you tools to use in the dungeon . It's not groundbreaking , but I did like it . Shops in this world are expensive . See , if you import a level 100 character , you have to either lower their level ( an option in the menu ) to below what the dungeon says is allowed , or you get no points in it to spend on rare things , like Summons . The other points , that can be spent at the main menu of the game , are still collected relatively easy , winning battles , mail from moogles , etc . - Graphics - Amazing , especially for a PSP . I loved the graphics , very nicely done . The new stages are great , and I personally felt loved the FFXIII one . It just felt and looked fantastic . - Music - Um , awesome , lol . I love FF's music and the new / unique soundtracks for this game are great as well . They added more music , which was nice . - Overall Opinion - I feel this was a glorified expansion . It was short and didn't ( IMO ) add enough to warrant it's original price tag - I got it on release day . I beat it and traded it back in within the week , and didn't look back . A good game if you didn't play the original ( especially if you didn't play it as much or more than the 500 + hours I put in it ) , but I wouldn't buy it full-price knowing what I know about it . They're really milking money for DLC's in this version , which gives you some new things ( costumes , etc . , but I didn't get any DLC for this game as none of it felt worth actual money to me , so but nothing that made me want to keep the game very long .

And the edition of having Kain and Tifa as playable characters makes even more awesome . And for those who haven't played the first one don't worry cause once you beat Dissidia 012 , you'll unlock the first Dissidia game . If your fan of Final Fantasy , RPGs or fighting games you should check this one out . It was well worth my 29.99

    • 021   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) This is easily my best video game purchase of the year . Granted , those who played the first may feel like they've already seen all of this ( and for some of it they have ) but this is really a well-polished sequel . Even if you now consider the first Dissidia to simply be a beta version and this is simply what it should have been there are still loads of new content . The already large roster gets several interesting additions . The replay value ( mostly getting items , leveling to 100 , and unlocking stories and unique items ) is high . Overall , I am quite happy with my purchase . Also , this part is specific for Amazon : super easy to find and buy this game . I pre-ordered and the game was shipped and arrived literally the day of the US release . I got my pre-order code for unique content via email on the same day , and just 5 days later Amazon informed me of a $3 price drop and had refunded that amount . Amazon's service is second to none !

    • 024   This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) The original Dissidia : Final Fantasy was a well-polished , if often lacking , fighting game and one of the best of its genre on the market , yet creating a sequel-slash-prequel to that game that was even better seemed like a fairly simple task - add a few new moves , some new characters , some other flashy bits like an overworld map , and presto ! Instant incredible game , right ? Well , not exactly . Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy has a more interesting story this time around , taking the original's and spicing it up with a few swapped loyalties , a minor mystery , and less goings-on about the great divine conflict . This time around , the focus is on the characters , and from what cutscenes I did see ( skipping most of them due to the lengthy and often laughable dialogue ) , the game is standing on slightly firmer ground . It's still not up to par with Squeenix's other blockbuster offerings , but it is a little less boring than the first one . Adding a bit of spice and conflict to the narrative is the introduction of many new characters , including the famous joke character and running gag , Gilgamesh . While I myself have never played a game with him in it , he is legendary enough that the cutscenes depicting him were quite amusing and well worth watching . Tifa Lockhart and Kain Highwind are nice additions to the roster with a well-balanced , mid-range moveset . Others are lackluster , such as Laguna Loire , Yuna , and Vaan , are nice additions but ultimately fall a tad short with their inflexible moveset , though their two alternate costumes make up for this a little . The Twelfth Cycle , which is the game's primary narrative , is a lengthy , occasionally entertaining , but often cumbersome tale of the new characters ( with the exceptions of Prishe , Gilgamesh , and Feral Chaos ) , which makes up the bulk of the game and is guaranteed to drain a few hours from your day . A more minor , but just as nice , little addition are the new alternate costumes - every character now has three costumes , one default , one being the original's alternate ( if applicable ) , and the third being the new alternate . Some are nostalgic , such as Yuna's wedding dress and Sephiroth's original look from his original game , while others aren't much more than palette swaps . Some , such as Tidus's new shirtless look , are old concept art sketches brought to life . Others , like Ultimecia's Edea outfit , make some sense in context but are otherwise fairly boring . Another nice set of inclusions are the new battle maps and music tracks - from a minor remix of Final Fantasy XIII ' s Blinded by Light to Final Fantasy X ' s A Contest of Aeons , from the Phantom Train to Orphan's Cradle , these new battle maps and music tracks amplify the sense of nostalgia for longtime fans , not to mention give a little push for newcomers to go check out Sqeenix's original offerings . In addition to that , the battles themselves have picked up the pace - the Chase sequences are faster and notifications come and go a little quicker , so in a way , the main focus is still on the battles themselves . Movesets have been improved , such as Cloud's Braver range being shortened ( a welcome addition for anyone who's played against a Cloud that liked to spam that move ) and a close-range swipe for Sephiroth to balance out his long - and mid-range strikes . With all these improvements ( including some for existing characters ' movesets , such as Cloud ) , one would think that Duodecim is a far superior specimen to the original : not only is there the legendary Twelfth Cycle here to play through , but there's also such modes as the Party Battle and the Reports to play through , as well . Unfortunately , the actual execution of the game buckles under its own weight : all the shiny new improvements , colorful characters , the overworld map , and the bloated storylines all work together to weaken what was originally a fantastic game . First of all , the Assist system seems nice on the surface , but it's actually little more than unnecessary shininess . Thanks to the new feature , the fairly clean interface of the original game now appears cluttered , not to mention you now run the risk of your opponent suddenly filling his or her Assist gauge and spamming it on you without warning . Also , for old-school blow-for-blow players like myself , the system is a bit cumbersome and requires a little too much attention to the gauge rather than focusing on fighting , not to mention it takes some of the skill out of the battles . Players well-used to the original's battle system will likely not be using the feature very much . Second of all , the Twelfth Cycle itself , as mentioned before , is a bloated mess and a chore to get through . While the addition of the world map ( otherwise known as an overworld map ) is rather nice , the way the dungeons and enemies are executed is a kind of underwhelming . While Destiny Points have been removed from these dungeons ( no more having to strategise one's battles , I suppose ) to be replaced by Kupo Points , they have also been made that much easier . . . and boring . Winning every battle against every pawn on the map can take a long time , and while the new chain mechanics are nice ( there's now an option to cancel them , too ) , there's not a whole lot of incentive to build up Kupo Points . KP are used at Moogle Shops , but so far there's nothing much worth buying . Winning prizes at the end of each Destiny Oddysey was a nice reason to keep racking up DP , and with that feature removed , well . . . In turn , the new mechanics have turned the streamlined Destiny Odysseys of the original game into a cluttered mess . Where the original was a nice way to spend some hours or blow off some steam with a quick battle or two , Duodecim has added all the new mechanics , including the world map , to it . The ability to swap outfits has also been removed , and while that might seem like a minor bone of contention , it's still rather irritating . The act of having to run across this world map , occasionally encountering enemies , treasures chests , and the light of the dead ( which , I don't know about you , I find a little disturbing ) , sucks a lot of the fun out of the Thirteenth Cycle . The biggest thing , for me at least , is the save data transfer function . The near-two hundred hours I spent on the first game has gone completely wasted here - although was able to keep all the levels I had earned with the original characters , most of those hours were spent in the Duel Colisseum earning rare or expensive items and fighting through tournament after palm-sweating tournament in search of that one item . The DC has been removed , replaced by the Labyrinth , which provides nothing more than a challenge rather than any kind of reward . Not to mention that all those items - from Rosetta Stones to expensive armor and exclusive weapons - is gone . Completely gone . From a realistic standpoint , yes , this makes perfect sense , but for those of us who spent so much time grinding and working toward those items , you're better off hanging on to the original game . The ones that really burn are all the Battlegen accessories , any penultimate exclusive weapons , and the Great Gospel accessory . The last little annoyance is the Creation Mode : a nice addition if it were possible to use an external keyboard with the PSP , as entering all that text becomes painful really quickly . Not to mention that the game's load times ( on the PSP - 1000 , at least ) are terrible and really serve to bog down any of the modes available in it . Overall , Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy is a nice addition to the Square Enix lineup , but unfortunately it falls short on its execution . While some of the new characters , maps , and music tracks make it a worthwhile purchase , the cons tip the scale more toward the needs a lot more polish side of things . For gamers used to the original and those who invested a great deal of time in it , you'd be better off hanging onto your copy and just buying this one on the side if you simply must have it . For those newcomers to the series , this is a good purchase , though in my humble opinion the first was a wonderfully flawed jewel of a game .
    • 025   The original Dissidia : Final Fantasy was a well-polished , if often lacking , fighting game and one of the best of its genre on the market , yet creating a sequel-slash-prequel to that game that was even better seemed like a fairly simple task - add a few new moves , some new characters , some other flashy bits like an overworld map , and presto ! • 028   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) This game is a wonderful time spent if you want to run around mindlessly fighting familiar villains and heroes from the Final Fantasy Universe . If you've played the first game then you already know the mechanics for combat and anything knew will be taught to you pretty quickly . There are some other tweaks to performance in that everyone feels more balanced and it doesn't devolve into a rock-paper-scissors with whoever you're fighting . This game does require more skill though there will be plenty of times where you will simply have to grind levels until you're faster than the PC characters . Visually , the game is a huge improvement but if you're looking for a strong story , it's basically non-existent . Finding all of the pieces and reading up on the world is interesting but really , the heart of the game is beating up on people you've always wanted to hit ( Vaan ) or playing as a character you've always wanted to try ( any of the villains ) . Overall , it's a solid 4 / 5 stars due to graphical improvement , mechanics improvement , and an actual cohesive storyline . If it had a stronger story it would be a definite 5 . Having the first game inside it is also a huge plus .

    • 031   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy is a sequel to Dissidia Final Fantasy and is Fan service to the core . It brings together some of the most popular Final Fantasy Heroes and Villains together for a typical battle of saving the world . Read more for details , or read the end for overall review . The entire cast from Dissidia Final Fantasy returns with the introduction of new characters Lightning ( FF13 ) , Kain ( FF4 ) , Vaan ( FF12 ) , Tifa ( FF7 ) , Laguna ( FF8 ) , Yuna ( FF10 ) , among a few secret characters . Fans that have demanded voice acting for their favorite characters and have been given so . Fans have had mixed reaction to the voice acting of the game however . Some of the voice acting is very good while others could use some work ( Exdeath sounds like he's sick when he speaks half the time ) . Partly the script can be blamed since you will likely see characters who say some funny lines that they normally never use . But the cast of characters selected is almost perfect with the exception of not adding Vivi or even Garnet ( - . - ) 9 / 10 . The Story is better than it was in the first Dissidia but doesn't still meet with Final Fantasy Standards of story telling . Once again a war between the two gods Cosmos and Chaos rages on and you will learn a few extra things if you're a veteran of Dissidia and notice a few changes . There's one scene where the dialogue sounds and looks funny during Yuna's chapter worth noting . This is just one a number of things that Square probably over-looked in their rush to meet the deadline they set . Otherwise Story is acceptable at least to me . 7 / 10 Gameplay is where this game truly shines . Dissidia Duodecim brings back much of the elements from the original Dissidia , but now introduces the Assist System . Assist basically calls in an ally ( of your choosing ) and allows you to more effectively connect with those hard to land HP attacks . And yes the game still uses Bravery and HP system where you stack up bravery and deal them all out with an HP attack . EX Mode has noticeably been nerfed so those who build on EX Mode will severely be disappointed . But thanks to another new feature the original rules you can set how much EX force you receive and even play in an EX Mode battle . Trance Zidane Vs Trance Kuja anyone ? The system is not 100% balanced but does a better job than the last Dissidia . 10 / 10 There is nothing to say about graphics except that it meets well with Square-Enix's standards to create amazing videos and pictures of quality . You will see your favorite characters rendered in FMV quality and gameplay quality . Both are done very well and I'm sure you'll love to see some of your characters in high quality . 10 / 10 Soundtrack is as amazing as usual also , at least in the music department . All of your favorite Soundtracks from previous Final Fantasy games will likely be in or will be available as Download Content . Immense favorite battle themes like Force your way ( FF8 ) , and The Final Battle ( FF5 ) are re-mastered and done very well while favorite soft music like You're not alone ( FF9 ) and Fleeting Dream ( FF10 ) are kept as it is . The sounds of swords clashing or bullets firing isn't the greatest , but does a fine job . 9 / 10 Replay value is probably my biggest concern . Once again Square drops the ball on on-line play . I don't entirely know what you need , but I can tell you setting up for on-line play will prove difficult for most people . And from what I heard even if you do manage to play online there are very few people to play with . If you're like me , you play this game just to make replay videos constantly kicking Mr . Over-rated's ( I'm sure FF fans understand ) butt over and over . The game will take some time to fully complete so that's a plus . Overall I think you will be getting enough play time out of this game , lord knows I did . 7 / 10 Overall this fan service provides almost all that you want and more . It's a pretty innovative fighting game , and does a good job on bringing most but not all of your favorite characters to the game . The Story can be better but isn't terrible . And some characters could probably use a bit more spotlight . I'm sure in the end however this game is a must have for any Final Fantasy and PSP owners . Remember , if you don't find what you wanted there's still you can find it off the PSN that can be downloaded . Remember , however most of the content must be purchased , I average the price around $3 U.S . Price .9 / 10

    • 049   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) Great game , improved on a lot of the slow moving aspects of the original game . The story mode is much more involved than just moving a character piece to engage enemies . The battle system is pretty much the same , fast paced yet strategic , with some extras thrown in to help defeat those seemingly impossible lvl 100 + enemies . New characters are pretty cool and there is a slight improvement in graphics also . Again , great game , very fun , highly recommended , especially if you're a fan of FF .

New characters are pretty cool and there is a slight improvement in graphics also . Again , great game , very fun , highly recommended , especially if you're a fan of FF .
    • 052   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) This is a great game I think any PSP owner or Final Fantasy fan should own . This game is better than the original in every way , with new character , equipment , and even the entire story of the original Dissidia . Point blank , there's just no reason to own the original Dissidia with this game on the market . Sadly , my copy is highly buggy , prone to fits of asking if I hit the Home button or not . I thought it was a hardware problem at first , and bought a new PSP , with this same thing still happening . . . It's very annoying , and even causes gameplay to lag heavily .

    • 055   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) This was an excellent follow up to the the first game in that the mechanics that made the first game so addictive were included in this game with only minor tweaks . Furthermore , the little additions , like the world map , make the game feel a bit more open-ended . Even though the story isn't fantastic , the extra characters and minor additions make this well worth the purchase price .

    • 061   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) Intro : I've had the first one since launch and loved it , so as soon as I heard news of this sequel I was instantly pumped and ready to get it . I pre-ordered it off Amazon and the day came when I got it in the mail . This is also a fighting game for those new to this final fantasy installment rather than an RPG like the other installments . Plot : Story is the same as the first . Two Gods Chaos ( Evil ) and Cosmos ( Good ) are in an eternal battle with the aid of other Heroes and Villains from other final fantasy titles ( 1 - 13 ) . Game play : The story mode is a different approach as before you would move around a board like a game piece / chess piece . However this time you are now allowed to roam and adventure like in other titles with a roam-able world , until you enter a dungeon and it resembles the first one with the board like game play . The fighting is improved with a lot of new features , such as assist characters are now allowed in battle along with a new way to play ( RPG Mode ) rather than it was initially introduced in Dissidia ( Action Mode ) . The difference in between these two is the action mode gives you full control of the character where as RPG mode gives you a menu and you select your action and the computer automatically does it for you . I've tested RPG mode and it's just as responsive as action mode . Graphics : Just on par as I expected for a PSP game . Square Enix does not disappoint when it comes to this . Sound : Music is superb again as I expected for a Final Fantasy title with new and old songs from previous installments that help bring the nostalgic feeling of when I first heard the songs years ago . The voice acting is acceptable but personally I wish the UMD has enough memory space for people to decide on English Dub ( English Voices ) or English Sub ( Japanese Voices and English Subtitles ) . This is because some voice actors are spot on for their character role ( Cloud ) , while others not so much . . . ( Lightning using Thundaga as an example ) . Overall : The game itself if you haven't realized is just the first one with extras ( Additional Characters , etc ) . However I still think it's a wonderful sequel to the first game and still recommend it to any Final Fantasy fan . My only grip is the grinding you have to do IF you want to max out your characters to their full potential . If you want to read up more in the game , here's the Final Fantasy wiki page about it : [ . . . ] I give this game 5 / 5 .

    • 064   This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) At first I was a skeptic of pursuing the video game until there where two characters in the roster ( Tifa & Prishe ) that particularly interested me and pushed me to purchase the video game . The same night of the PSN release I couldn't put my PSP Go down because I was having so much fun ! They have indeed added much more of a storyline onto Dissidia , along with a beautiful arrangement of soundtracks from past to present day Final Fantasy series . Even if one decides to tweak settings a bit to easily bump their characters up to 100 , there's still lots more to do in this game . Like every other role playing game , this game has lots of farming & grinding to earn your high level stuff . There's quite a large amount of content to be unlocked as well . They have added a new RPG style battle mode . I wasn't too impressed by it , and didn't care for it . It's basically auto-battle and you call out the commands like you would in any other Final Fantasy game . The assist function added to the game and other battle features make the game a bit more easier , but they can be difficult if you can't play your cards right . Last but least , the entire roster makes the game worth playing , and I'm sure many people have purchased this game because they have a favorite character or two they've wanted to duke out in the Final Fantasy series . I bought 012 just so I can enjoy Tifa & Prishe and I was not disappointed . I would recommend you go and get this game right away ! Great gameplay , addiction factor and soundtrack . Happy gaming !

    • 066   This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) I will make it quick and simple . We all love Final Fantasy , their Characters , their soundtrack , and their original voice-actors , right ? Square-Enix made us a game that has all those characters and their music and you can move them in an Action or RPG style , what do we want more ? This game is a great addition to your PSP and now I know that no more boring nights for me .

    • 077   This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) I tracked this games details for months before it's release , so naturally pre-ordering it was a no-brainer , especially when Amazon promises a bonus . I'm not reviewing this game , because it is everything i hoped it would be . I'm reviewing Amazon , who stiffed me out of the bonus code you get for pre-ordering from them . That's not what i would cal customer satisfaction . So let me some this up , if you liked the first game , you'll like this one . no question , and it's definatly worth the money . And one more thing . Amazon , you still owe me that bonus code .

    • 082   This review is from : Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) I didn't like the first Dissidia . I'm not a fan of this one either . People say the game gets really good after you level your characters but I see no appeal in a video game that needs work in order to then gain an entertainment value . The cutscene graphics are nice , the gameplay . . . not so much .

  • Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) If you've played the original version of this game , then you should already be familiar with the story . This game focuses on something different instead of the cliche conflict of the good god and bad god . It shows more of how the conflict came about and deeply explains the story in Main Scenario 000 . If you are knew to the game , than there is all the more reason to get this game . Especially how inexpensive it is . Simply put - it's a decent game with TREMENDOUS improvement from the original .

  • Dissidia 012 [ duodecim ] Final Fantasy ( Video Game ) This game is not a sequel of dissidia original story , this game is for experts that played dissidia 1 because this game is too hard to finished , Cosmos and Chaos had a war an eon ago , now we know what was the last hope for ending the conflict forever , with new characters like Final Fantasy XIII lightinig , new scenes , new costumes and alternative this game has a prequel esperdad , unfortunately increasing game difficulty and to get through this very difficult and you can not transfer your accessories and summons from Dissidia Final Fantasy making the game becomes complicated , new innovations in this game is the ability to download songs and costumes from Playstation Network increasing excitement to the game , being that this is the possible end of Dissidia . My conclusion : Although the game features a precise pattern , fails to overcome DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY , since it has an OPENING repeated and a new one as expected and the way history is not as lasting as Dissidia Final Fantasy . rating : 8.9
