Bulletstorm

  • 220   Right now I can tell you that if your even considering buying this game , you'll have ALOT of fun playing it . The actual game play is spot on , although a bit monotonous , and you never really get tired of it . Personally I am more about the story of a game , but I was able to let that go for this one . The plot is shallow and it sets up easily for a sequel . I played this game straight through in about 6 hours , and it was a really fun way to spend the day home . I don't want to go too deep into the review , but I would recommend this game . Now for the caveat . I would not spend 60 dollars on this game ( I actually refuse to pay that for any game ) . My brother gave me the money for this , so technically I bought it for him . Most games I either borrow or buy used really cheap ( sub 30 dollars ) . This game goes into the borrow category , since its way to short and I wouldn't spend approx . $10 / hr on any game . While I don't believe the game itself should be compared too strictly to the best games of the time , its not at all worth the industry standard $60 . On that note , I truly recommended borrowing the game , but don't buy it .
    • 111   Sure to not bore you after a couple plays like many other shooters because there's ALWAYS a different way to play through it . Some of the best graphics I've seen and in-depth , intense story line . Just too bad there isn't an online multi-player .
    • 130   if you like new ways of killing people , then you'll like this game . the game play and the echo trials are fun , but they could have done a little bit more with the multiplayer . besides that , great game .
    • 176   All right . I'm going to break it down . No 5 paragraph MLA paper . This game is fun . It isn't like your typical FPS that you're used to . Run n ' Gun . Campaign was very , emphasis on very , Short . Multiplayer is ok-ish . No a big fan . This is a beta game , a lot like crackdown . If you remember crackdown , it had the halo 3 beta . So , for this being a beta game , I was very pleased . I bought it for two reasons , one for the hell of it . I wanted something different . Two , for the beta . If this game didn't come with the beta , I honestly wouldn't suggest buying it . Overall the game is fun , but not worth the $60 dollars , buy it when it hits platinum . The dialog in the campaign made me literally rofl . = P
    • 251   I'll start by saying that I HATE FPS ( First Person Shooters ) ! I can't stand HALO or COD . I've never been able to play and enjoy a FPS until now . I was skeptical at first , but found the advertisements for Bulletstorm entertaining enough to download the demo . WOW , I must've played through the demo about 30 times just wanting more and more . I am so glad I picked this game up , it is so different from any other FPS ever played , period ! If you're one of these haters or COD fan boys , need not apply your comments . This game is over the top cheese , gore , and comic relief . Check it out for yourself , you won't regret it !
    • 303   Just a whole lot of fun ! It delivers what it promised , and that is a lot of nonstop , creative action that can also be shared among other friends . Depending on your willingness to get creative , the length of the game will vary around 9 hours , but that 9 hours will be intense and thrilling , I know that much . Funny characters , and a lot of penis and fart jokes will keep the laughs coming , too , if you're into that kind of comedy . If not , you'll still have plenty of fun to go around .

  • 244   I'd like to compare Bullet Storm with Duke Nukem mostly because it's over the top and attempt to take seriousness out of the game and put in intense violent action with funny colorful dialogs . Storyline ~ I like to think that the developers were aiming for a 1980s style B-rated film plot line . For those of you who don't know , 1980 ' s b-rated movies were generally gems where funny one liner dialogs and corny plots occur while trying to be serious but being extremely funny . The story of Bullet Storm puts you in the role of character who is trying to seek revenge . The character is part of a team who had orders from a general who told them to assassinate people they thought were terrorists but it turned out that the general only wanted to kill people trying to expose the truth about their government . The point is the story is ridiculous and silly . The game has it where you shoot down the general's warship , but your ship was badly damaged as well . You land on a planet that happens to be a resort planet , but somehow it was overrun by violent gangs and mutants . The entire game has it where you're to try and exact a revenge on the general . Many funny dialogs and plot are exchanged as you advance the story . I won't give away much but then there isn't really that much to say other than it's corny and silly and very unrealistic but it has its share of funny moments . Graphics ~ The graphics of Bullet Storm is beautiful . As I said earlier , you're in a resort planet so you're going to see many wonderful tropical places as well as inner city surrounding a beautiful place . However , I've noticed sometimes when you think a place is beautiful , if you zoom in , you can see that they're not actually objects , but pictures that the developer trick you into thinking that it's a far off scenery . That isn't really distracting unless you take the time to really pay close attention . As far as your character graphics , there are so problems . While the graphics is wonderful , from time to time , the gun on your characters back may bounce or distort for a second . It doesn't happen often , but it does happen from time to time . Gameplay ~ The game is set as a 1st person shooter . You do get one scene where you actually get to shoot from a space ship , but otherwise you're stuck in the 1st person view . The cut scenes tend to have it where you're viewing the characters in 3rd person , but sometimes you see scenes unfold in 1st person . Doesn't totally matter . The environment in this game is sort of confusing from time to time . You don't have free roam in areas . What I mean is , for example , you can't jump off a rail . Even more so , you can't freely move . While the environment may appear to be open and unlimited , you can't actually move around . You have to follow a set area and sometimes and invisible wall may block you from doing something . I recall one part near the end , you have a lot of free roaming but yet when you think you can go into an area , an invisible wall sort of blocks you from going to that area even though you can see an opening . You don't get that much of a weapon selection . You get guns and all of them has a primary fire mode and something called a charge shot which is basically like a secondary fire mode that cost you a charge that you can upgrade . You also get this thing called a whip , which is used to pull enemies out on the open . You can also you a charge shot on the whip which causes a lot of people to fly into the air at an radius . I found that most of the weapons are boring to use . They have some good ones like a grenade launcher , but it isn't fun at all . I found the best weapons are the standard machine rifle , pistol and the sniper rifle . The sniper rifle is probably the funniest weapon to use as you can navigate the round to the target . It's quite fun but again the AI behavior is the same . Like for example , if you use a sniper rifle , start steering it towards the enemy , he'll slow motion dodge it but once you figure out the pattern it's very easy because the enemy always does the same exact pattern . To get upgrades and ammo / charge shot purchases , you have to have point . Each time you kill an enemy , you get this thing called skill shots points . For example , if you just plainly shoot someone , you'll get really low points . But if you kick someone to a spiked fence , you get more points . You can compound it like for example , you can whip someout out in the open , kick them to a spiked fence then you get bonus points . It's fun at first , but sort of gets boring at the end when you realize every option is pretty much exhausted . In some cases you can kick these funny looking hats on people , or even shoot a plant that causes mass hysteria . You can even drink booze or inhale the mass hysteria plant and get bonus points by being in an intoxicated state . It's quite fun . There are problems executing the skill shots . For example , some places have decent barrels laying around . So if you aim down the sight sometimes the auto aim follows someone running off in the distance . So you miss the skill shot chance and now you're stuck having to find another way . It's rather annoying to have the auto aim lock onto something you don't intend to shoot . This can be bypassed though . I've learned that if you want to do this , don't aim down the sight . Instead hip fire and perhaps waste some rounds trying to do something that should have been done easily by aiming down the sights . Also , you get two AI partners in this game . While they appear hardcore in cut scenes , they don't really help out in game . They run around and from time to time may just run past enemies . I don't recall any AI saving me in the game . Matter of fact , they just randomly run around and take cover and so fort . Personally I like it where they don't help , but sometimes it's a wonder why they're so dumb yet in scenes they appear so different . Some of the boss battles in the game are excellent . I recall this one plant boss , and I never had so much fun fighting a boss . It's fun and exciting . However , that is pretty rare . I think that is the only large boss of the game . Plus one train level , you had to dodge a giant tire while escaping which was extremely fun and exciting times . The game has few great moments but near the end they degrade to simple story line . There isn't even a final battle except a button mashing one which made it about as exciting as pong in 2011 . Overall I was happy with the game . The ending to it is horrible . Just horrible . It opens up for Bullet Storm 2 , but I don't think I'm getting that title due to some of the issues with this game . Overall it's funny , but I don't think I want to make it a habit buying sequels to this game . It's fun but the story is non-existence and having one large , continuous b-rated storyline would not be very fun . Plus the gun play , which exciting at first , gets boring at the end when you figured out the patterns . Overall fun , but don't want a sequel .
    • 062   I got this game when it first came out , and after seeing all the trash talk I have to put in my two cents . This is probably one of my FAVORITE games I own . Sure , the dialogue is a little raunchy , but that's what makes this game UNIQUE . I mean , who doesn't love a dinosaur with a completely inappropriate name ? I know I do ! The story is amazing for how short it is , and it disappoints me highly that the rumor is going around that there won't be a second one . This game is highly over looked , so you should pick it up and see for yourself what Bulletstorm is .
    • 103   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Nothing like a good butt Kicking , and BulletStorm Delivers . Though I still have not personally completed the campaign from this game , I've played a lot of the multiplayer with my friends and Thoroughly enjoy the game . I've watched someone play through the campaign and I can't wait to finish it myself ( No Spoilers Here ) and would gladly purchase BulletStorm 2 if they decide to make it . Overall , it does have a little of the Clunky feel similar to Gears of War , but the style of game play makes up for it with unique combat style , this is not an ordinary shooter by far . Also , the upgradable weapons system will keep you from just walking in and shooting people straight up , its hard to explain and I won't spoil it , but you'll be combo-ing your kills in no time . If you are looking for a unique shooter type story experience this game is for you , and you'll love the commentary of the characters as you go through the campaign for sure . As far as difficulty , it works in a slowly getting harder way , as you improve and get deep into the game you encounter new and harder enemies which keeps you locked in and waiting for the next challenge . All in all a good game , with decent replay value , definitely will stay on my game shelf for quite some time .

    • 126   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I don't often endorse a game like this , but this is a MUST buy . So many of the FPS ( 1st person shooters ) out there are the same old thing . They are just rehashed with a different background , slightly different guns , and a few tweaks . This game is something completely different . If I had to compare it something I would say it is a cross between Badlands and Gears of War . It takes some of the best they have to offer and combines it in one game . It has the mood of Gears , but it is all FPS - not 3rd person . Quite a bit of depth and not as short as some reviewers saying it is - also some cool gets to make you come back and play the campaign more then once . Game moves very fast - if I do have a bit of a complaint it's that gameplay can get a little repetitive . Still it's the kind of repetitive that isn't that bad because it's still fun .
    • 161   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I'll be honest , I only bought this game because I was getting bored of CoD : Black Ops and wanted something to tide me over until Dragon Age 2 came out . So I figured , why not get the game and also get the GoW 3 Beta as well ? Surprise surprise , turns out this game is one hell of a fun ride ! As someone else mentioned , this game is essentially Gears of War meets FPS . The graphics are phenomenal and the Unreal Engine still kicks butt . It literally feels like a faster , looser , and even more violent version of Gears from a 1st person vantage point . I gotta say , I really got into this game the second I started playing it . The story is pretty disposable - which is totally fine because I didn't really care about the plot because all I was thinking about was how to do as many different skill-based kills as I could with the awesomely fun arsenal of weapons that I had . Even something as simple as using the whip was hilariously fun . It's awesome when you can just do all sorts of different combo kills - even the simple ones such as whipping a person into the air , shooting them , then whipping them back again so you can kick the body back away and shoot a few more rounds for posterity comes off as insane and fun . I also like how there is a very detailed list of kill types that you need to hit if you want to add bonus skill points . I started out playing only a little bit , but suddenly I found that several hours had passed by . That's how this game works . It just sucks you in because of the easy to pick up controls , solid gameplay , and addictive kill kill kill action that really never gets old . Definitely worth picking up ! ADD : I forgot to note the multiplayer aspect . I had a decent time with it , as it reminds me of the horde gametype in GoW . Had a blast playing with 3 other players to wipe out tons of NPCs , though in this case , it's the STYLE kills that really matter . In the later rounds , it gets hard to level up unless you and your teammates meet the skill challenge kill . Teamwork for killing is important , which is a nice twist from the usual point shoot kill move on aspects of some FPS games . It did take me awhile to get into a game , but once you're in things were pretty smooth for me .

    • 163   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) A couple quick questions : 1 . Do you enjoy the Gears of War franchise ? 2 . Do you enjoy First Person Shooters ? 3 . Does bad language not offend you ? 4 . Does the thought of kicking an enemy off of a ledge in slow motion , and then shooting him in the genitals sound entertaining ? If you answered yes to those questions above . . . then don't walk but RUN to the nearest store and buy this game . Support Epic games and People can fly and just have a good time with this one . I'm not a big multiplayer fan , so I usually just stick to single player , and I haven't had this much fun in a video game in quite a long time . I've never literally laughed out loud when it came to in game dialogue . Hilarious banter between the games heros . Very entertaining and creative twist to the FPS genre and highly recommended .

  • 311   As with other Games For Windows Live ( G4WL ) titles , you are required to create an account and log in to Windows LIVE in order to play even the single-player version of this game . There are numerous bug issues associated with even getting it to run , the game is short and the online play ( which should be great given the Unreal pedigree , and the fact that you are forced to log in online to play it in any form ) is less than satisfying . Compared to a real game like Borderlands , this hardly even rates one star .

    • 318   I hate games that make you hold a button to run . On top of that my character can't jump . How can the idiots that made this game like this ? Super Mario Brothers let me jump , how come twenty years later bullet storm can't include that feature ? In Morrowind you could jump and fly ! Do not waste your money on this game . Let it drop in price if you are bored out of your mind enough to want to play it . What a waste of time and money .
      • 108   Bulletstorm is a good shooter with a less than intricate story but fun nonetheless . There are plenty of fun little tricks and unique kills to keep you interested throughout the game . Don't play with the kids around , though , as the language is laced with a litany of PG13 to R rated gems . There's a multiplayer component as well , for those who are so inclined .

    • 320   This game could been fun . got tired of all the damn points keep poping up on the screen . got me upset.and the cursing was so trash . its like they paid Christans who never cursed in thier life and they got paid to curse for the first time on this game . really if you hear the cursing , your thinking , really , who the hell says that.Trash . atleast get some better script that has better cursing . i love epic gears , unreal tournament . love them , this just sucked . trash.gears cursing was awesome.this guy in this game looks like wolverine and curse like child . just plain aweful . I only bought this game for gears Of War 3 beta.after that was over sold it . I beat the game , thought it would get better . just trash . If they kept the points out . and just had shooting like gears with no points , that would of been better . and the multiplayer , wow really . thats like a low trash Horde . If they would of just has FPS mulitplayer , with out the points and leash , would of been awesome. Its TRASH . that game had great graphics and guns and setup . just the points and cursing . every time i want to kill some one points got in my way . didnt like it .
      • 015   It's fun , don't get me wrong , but it's just average fun . After only a few hours , the novelty had worn off for me , and I returned to Halo and Modern Warfare when I needed my FPS fix .
      • 028   The campaign is decently fun , too easy on the hardest difficulty . not very much gameplay . I only bought it for the early beta access to gears 3 .
      • 065   I have a teenage son that loves this game and plays with it all the time ! He recommends this to all .
      • 084   I love this game so much ! I play it a lot , the other game modes are very fun . Love the guns to . The game handles very well and is very easy to understand .
      • 090   I'm a huge Gears of War fan , so when Epic created this new IP , I was somewhat interested . Then I downloaded the demo and was bored stiff . So I waited to pick this up used on the cheap and let me tell you , the demo is a very accurate portrayal of this game . Playing through the demo is better than any of these reviews . This was one of those games that I had to make myself finish rather than looking forward to playing it each time . There's nothing really bad about the game . . . the graphics are okay , the controls are good . . . but the story is paper thin and it turns into just another typical FPS that is really repetitive . Count me out if there is a sequel .
      • 147   Short Game , yet AMAZING ! I mostly got it for the Gears of War Beta , and thought that this game would be just a little bit of fun while I wait . But , I was quite surprised to find it a Well Made game . The story isn't a Final Fantasy epic , but it's good , with characters you genuinely come to love , and hate .
      • 152   I went into this game expecting to be let down . I thought it looked a little cheesy and also a little over the top . It definitely is over the top , but in all the right ways and I'm having a lot of fun with it .
      • 154   this game really surprise me of how good it was . . . it was a fun and different from playing COD : blk ops and love it . . to all you skeptics out their just try the Demo and you will see what I'm talking about .
      • 229   As the title of the review says , single player campaign a little over 5 hours . I must say that I haven't had this much fun playing a game in years . Non stop action that leaves me wanting more . To make up for the semi-short campaign , echos mode lets you relive some of the battles that are in the single player story . I haven't had a chance to try multiplayer , but I've completed the single player story line 3 times now . 4 out of 5
      • 241   It is a great game full of action and great game play . I love the killing point system it keeps me on my feet always trying to get that next trick kill . the graphics are also another plus about the game the one thing i would take away is that the game play was a lot like gears of war not a total bad thing i had just wished it was a little more unique and i dont like the way you croutch in the game

    • Buckeye829 ' s Video Game Reviews - Games Under $40 First Person Shooters tens to take themselves very seriously these days . It's getting more and more difficult to tell every Battlefield Ghost : Fall of the Modern Rainbow Company from the others , and they're getting so precise . I'll admit I had basically zero interest in playing Bulletstorm ( from EA , Epic Games and People Can Fly studios ) after reading and seeing previews for it . It seemed crass and vulgar , just for shock value . I expected a slim story with just lots of blood and guts . Basically , all for show with little substance . Video games are still getting a bad rap from mainstream media anyway , and I felt Bulletstorm was just adding fuel to their fire . But something happens to me when a game falls below that $40 pricepoint . My standards relax a little and I'm willing to give a chance to something I'd previously written off . During Bulletstorm , you play as Gray ( son ) , a self-imposed leader of a band of mercenaries working for an elite , top-secret group , Dead Echo , which was in charge of protecting the Confederation of Planets ( which has a symbol curiously similar to Halo's energy sword ) . Gray is basically Marcus Fenix's baby brother with Han Solo's thirst for adventure ( and wisecracking ) and Duke Nukem's sensibilities . A mission goes horribly wrong and the team is exiled and become the hunted , due to a large bounty on their heads . Gray then becomes paired with Ishi , a fellow team member , who has undergone a bit of a transformation , which makes the pairing more unconventional than you might think . The two set out , each with their own reasons , but willing to work together . Gray is out for revenge , but also redemption . Gray and Ishi crash-land on the planet Stygia , which looks like a cross between Pandora ( from Avatar ) and Coruscant . There are warring factions and mutants galore , which obviously leads to a fair share of combat . The thing that separates Bulletstorm from other FPS , is the skillshot . Anybody these days can just gun down countless enemies , one after the other , but skillshots take imagination and . . . . . skill . Each skillshot warrants a point value ( skill points ) , depending on difficulty and ingenuity , which can then be used to upgrade your weapons . Simple kills , the old-fashioned way , only garner 10 points . Traversing through the game that way would leave your weapons and ammo at a minimum . There are 131 different skillshots to master in Bulletstorm , and more than half of the fun is figuring them out . Sure some are basic like kicking an enemy into an electrical source ( Shocker ) , cactus ( Pricked ) , or sharp metal object ( Voodoo Doll ) , but the enjoyment comes from some of the more complex ones : Attaching an explosive to an enemy then kicking him towards a group before exploding ( Homie Missile ) , killing an enemy with a shot to the throat ( Gag Reflex ) , or snipe an enemy with a shot to his crotch ( Nutcracker ) or behind ( Rear Entry ) . I can just imagine the roundtable discussions that were being held coming up with the names alone , and pretty much every time I discovered a new one , I ended up smiling and the name . Gray also inherits another potent weapon , an Energy Leash , early on in the game . The Leash is basically an electrified whip that can pull enemies that are far , closer to Gray . When they get leashed , the enemies also slow down for more precise skillshot action . The weapon selection in Bulletstorm gives just enough variety and spin-off from typical FPS , that it felt fresh and new . When first playing , I felt uncomfortable not having any grenades to throw , but eventually got used to it . Gameplay Bulletstorm plays extremely cinematically . As you would expect , loads of action and everything seems larger than life with explosions , blood , colors , sweeping cameras , etc . galore . The story mode is divided into 7 acts , with 2 - 3 chapters into each act . The pacing is excellent and most sections don't seem too long or too short . I played the game on ' Very Hard ' mode and it seemed like another FPS ' Normal ' level . That's the point of the game , it's supposed to be fun , not necessarily complicated or grueling . The first two-thirds of this game are really excellently done . The eight available weapons ( introduced slowly over the course of the game ) , especially The Leash , feel different enough from little tweaks here and there , and the variety of enemies ( some fast , some charge , some stay back , etc . ) really hooked me in using the full assortment of firepower available . Pulling a pilot out of a helicopter instead of just shooting it down feels more bad-ass . Guiding a sniper rifle bullet into an enemy's head is always enjoyable . Kicking enemies into solid objects , with stuff splattering everywhere is always gratifying . Adding to Gray's swashbuckling bravado , there are bottles of alcohol hidden , and if he takes a swig , the screen turns to double ( or triple ) - vision and the walking controls don't work as expected . Being inebriated and dispatching of bad guys adds even more skill points . The gameplay is broken up once or twice an Act , with more scripted sequences such as rail-shooting , or eliminating waves of enemies , but is the action is unfortunately quite linear . The pathways are all marked by invisible walls , so there is not much exploring , and if you're hunting collectibles , new checkpoints usually close previous areas . My favorite part of the game was when I got to control a Godzilla-type creature , causing havoc with each step and shooting fire out of it's mouth at helpless thugs . The slight problem I had with Bulletstorm is that about two-thirds through I had pretty much discovered all of the skillshots I was going to discover ( I think I ended up in the low 90 ' s out of 131 ) . I began to rely mostly on the same few weapons ( as you can really only equip two , as the basic machine gun always has to be equipped ) and the same handful of skillshots . Towards the end , I also didn't really use The Leash all that much in combat . The enemies grew a bit stale as after a certain point , there was not much novelty . I also thought that an online co-op mode was greatly missing , as my CPU controlled partners were never that much help . In addition to the story mode , there are a couple of extra experiences to be had . First , are the Echoes , which are bite-sized pieces of the single player campaign in which the goal is to score as many points as possible using different skillshots . The Echoes are timed , which factor into the score , but are a great way to try out different techniques with different weapons . They are graded from zero to three stars depending on your score . As for online multiplayer , there is what's called Anarchy mode , which up to four players competing together to eliminate up to 20 waves of baddies , some with bosses and mini-bosses , culminating in the Blood Symphony skillshot , if you're lucky . Initially , I was saddened by the lack of online competitive multiplayer , but the more I thought about it , I really would not want to be humiliated by some of the skillshots , via human opponents . There have also been 2 DLC packs since launch , which bring more multiplayer maps , Echoes , and Leash colors . Graphics The graphics in Bulletstorm are definitely a selling point . Bright colors mixed with the decayed steel of the city landscape really gave it a look of it's own . The field of vision when Gray is running or sliding really puts you in the action and make the game more engaging . The enemies are detailed , and amply filled with blood , guts , puss , etc . to make their demise a sight to behold . Sound Bulletstorm proudly uses just about every curse word in the English language , but only occasionally does it feel like too much . Sometimes a couple of curse words are put together in ways I had not heard before . The soundtrack is appropriate ranging from heavy metal guitar riffs when you die to sweeping orchestral melodies that set the stage for the upcoming action . The voice acting is top-notch as well , as the actors must have been cracking up at some of the lines they had to say . Replay Value For under $40 , you get quite a bit with Bulletstorm . The campaign should last 10 - 12 hours on the hardest mode then throw in the Echoes and co-op multiplayer , and you have yourself something worthy of your gaming dollar . You probably won't go back and play the campaign again , but trying to get three stars on all of the Echoes is quite challenging . Don't go into Bulletstorm hoping for a Mass Effect story or even a Call of Duty shooter , as you'll be disappointed . I went in with an open mind and got something that had been done before , yet fresh and exciting at the same time . Skillshots are extremely humorous and simultaneously gratifying , and a twisted , adult sense of humor kept me amused throughout . The game is crass , vulgar , graphically violent , and way over the top , but I smiled or laughed quite a bit and enjoyed it immensely . Score : 8.75
      • 002   As a gamer , I've found that there are many different kinds of games . And due to the many different kinds out there , you have to have an open mind to truly enjoy them all . This game is no exception to that rule , so if you are not open to over-the-top violence and absurd lines of dialogue kin to Duke Nukem . . . well , please stay away . To make things simple , here's what I've found : Pros - Entertaining / Fun . - Short but lasting . The main story is fairly short , however , the variety of weapons and ways to kill leave a lot that can be done over multiple plays . - Variety of weapons - Open to DLC / sequel . - Wonderfully epic moments . The boss fights were quite memorable . Cons - Can be repetitive - If you don't enjoy linear games , stay away . There is one set path , with some secrets but nothing major off track . - Lack of versus multiplayer - Extremely short . If you're looking for a long lasting story , this isn't it . - Not enough boss fights . The boss fighters were epic , but there weren't enough of them . All in all , this game is a lot of fun . If you're annoyed by cursing , violence , or extremely over-the-top action stereotypes though , this will not be enjoyable for you .
      • 004   The title of this piece refers to an interview I once saw with the developers of Halo : Combat Evolved . This was Bungie's big goal , to create 30 seconds of fun for the gamer , and then let him do it again and again . And it worked - Halo is arguably one of the greatest FPS franchises in the business ! However , without fail , the same thing could be said for just about EVERY shooter out there . Point , shoot , reload , point , shoot , reload . . . Still fun though , right ? People Can Fly and Epic Studios have done just that with their new opus , Bulletstorm . Only , this time , they added a couple new wrinkles to that 30 seconds ; a nifty new tool , the tether ; and a carnival house devoted to pain ! Just about everywhere one looks in Bulletstorm , one sees something they wouldn't want to get too close to in real life - cactus covered in deadly spikes , exposed electrical wiring , man-eating plants , etc . Each of these things are designed to be used by the player to rack up crazy combinations of over the top violence visited upon the bodies of maniacal ( and most probably cannibalistic ) muties out to kill you . The more you manage to wring out of a combo , the more points you get . However , since points in Bulletstorm equate to cash , and cash is what you need to buy more ammo and upgrades for your fabulously twisted weapons arsenal , it behooves the player to be as creative in his kills as he possibly can . This skillshot system is what changes everything - People Can Fly obviously love video-games , and it shows in a perfectly balanced system designed to reward player creativity with bigger and better toys . . . One example is the flailgun , a weapon you find early on that shoots spiked grenades connected by a chain like a sadistic bolo , perfect for tying up a foe which you can then use to fling into a group of his buddies before remotely setting off the explosives , multiplying your skillshot count by the overall amount of enemies . If any of them end up stuck to a cactus , or slamming up against an explosive barrel , you get credit for those things , too ! All these seemingly disparate mini-atrocities add up to one big score , which the player can then use to buy themselves something nice from the store . And since every item in the store is a weapon or something weapon-related , that something nice is definitely gonna be something you like . This , of course , is just one small example - not only does each weapon have a secondary mode , they also have their own specific skillshots to unlock inspiring the player to use each weapon in ways he may never have thought about before ! As for re-playability , Bulletstorm has that in spades . Playing thru the campaign opens up challenge areas you can take on separately by yourself , or with a couple of friends ( the main campaign has co-op as well ! ) . Your scores are kept track of and placed on the gamerboards for everyone else to see . The better you get at manipulating each one of these spaces , squeezing out more and more skillshot points , the better you end up being in the campaign upon every consecutive play-thru . In the end , the experience is akin to billiards - the better you get at it , the more satisfying the experience . And with graphics this good , and characters this fun to hang out with , you're gonna want to get better . . . On the subject of multi-player , results can be mixed . If you're playing with friends with a common goal , you're gonna have a lot of fun . If you're playing with strangers , you're probably not gonna have any fun at all as most of the gameplay relies on mutual cooperation and good communication . But with a single-player experience this good , who cares ?
      • 007   Instead of reviewing this game on the simple story , sound , graphics , gameplay criteria I will instead review this game based on what it's advertised as being . I find that to be a more realistic scale than comparing every game to each other . Instead I'll just tell you what Bulletstorm delivers from what it promises . The quoted statements below will be comments Epic Games put out to advertise why people should buy Bulletstorm . Incredible New Skillshot System - Combine outrageous gunplay with Bullet storm's unique kick , slide and leash mechanics as you kill with skill . Every enemy presents a new opportunity for stylish , over-the-top and ever increasingly bloody ways to take them down . 10 / 10 The skillshot system is everything promised in the advertising and more . It is fun , it encourages fun strategy and is awesome to watch . Basically what this is is when you kill an enemy in a creative way you get more skill points to use for buying guns , ammo , upgrades , and buying new guns . So as you play you find that kicking an enemy into a giant cactus , throwing them off a cliff , or shooting them in the butt is much more cost effective than playing this like a standard FPS and just shooting from cover . Bulletstorm is also kind enough to have a data chart showing you which attack you have done and which ones you haven't so you can focus on new ones . It works wonderfully at encouraging players to develop new playing styles and experiment with new strategies , where so many other FPS's discourage creative play and boil down to hoarding ammo and shooting from cover or running and shooting . That won't work in Bulletstorm since if you play like that you'll get less ammo , and less upgrades , and the game really will be less fun since the skillshots really are quite impressive to look at . The Circle of Awesome - Kill with skill to rack up the points . Cash in these points for upgrades . Use these upgrades to pull off even bigger and better skillshots and earn even more points . Bulletstorm's upgrade system truly is a circle of awesome that rewards players who kill in the most creative ways . 10 / 10 My comments on this are the exact same as for the skillshot system . You upgrade your weapons by activating dropkits and spending skill point you get from creative killshots to get better stuff . The two systems complement each other beautifully and it really is hard to come up with such a good system to promote gameplay , the right amount of fun and incentive to make the system work . Badass Weaponry - From your trusty Peace Maker Carbine to the explosive Flail Gun , Bulletstorm delivers an arsenal of the most inventive , death-dealing weapons ever seen that truly put the fun back into the First Person Shooter . 7 / 10 LIES ! Lies , slander and blood libel ! Not really but they are stretching truth to the breaking point , the weapons are very generic and standard FPS weapons any FPS player should immediately recognize . They have specific names but they're irrelevant , despite their names what the weapons really are , are a machine gun , a pistol , a shotgun , a sniper rifle , a grenade launcher , and one weapon that I didn't unlock . In the game you also get temporary weapons like miniguns . Each weapon has an upgrade which all boil down to a secondary fire / explosion based attack , and while they're really cool looking and good for gameplay purposes Epic games is lying straight to your face when they say their weapons are the most inventive they're not . The only reason I didn't make this 5 / 10 is because one weapon the electric whip you get very early is awesome and inventive and makes some parts of the game hilarious and fun and is in fact death-dealing as the advertisements claim . So to recap the weapons are not in any way inventive , but they are fun and deadly , and the whip is new and inventive and the guided sniper rifle set up might be new to some players , but not likely . A Pulp Sci-fi Adventure - Featuring a script by the acclaimed Marvel Comics writer Rick Remender ( The Punisher ) , Bulletstorm takes you on a journey filled with plot twists and turns from betrayal to revenge and ultimately redemption . 7 / 10 This was kind of hard to judge , the story wasn't great by any means , but Epic games came right out and said it's a pulp sci-fi adventure so we know no realism or unique plot devices are going to be in the game . Which is good , this is what us players want ; we want game developers to be honest about what they're selling instead of hyping up their product when it doesn't warrant it . The story does require suspension of disbelief , if you're going to sit there and question how humans could mutate into monsters or how a giant metal wheel could stay on a dilapidated train track in the desert than this won't be enjoyable for you . The plot does have twists and turn but all of them are very simple and many of you will subconsciously or consciously know what's coming before it happens . That being said though the story isn't boring , it's easy to follow and does give satisfying explanation on who Grayson Hunt is and surprisingly the game does pose some interesting moral questions . For example is Grayson as bad as the person he seeks revenge against for the people he's killed ; this is the first FPS I've played where the main character is called out as a hypocrite for killing soldiers who were following their orders while at the same seeing himself as superior to the antagonist who kills innocents to achieve their own ends , who actually killed less people . You won't get that in most plot driven games , seeing it in Bulletstorm was impressive . Grayson's status as a hero , anti-hero , or just a person is completely open to interpretation from the player . The only major flaw with the games story was the ham fisted way they made it so they could set it up for a sequel . The plot had no resolution and both our antagonist and protagonist are in the exact same position as when the game starts . Because of that I can only give Bullestorms plot a 7 / 10 , if the ending had been better I would have given it an 8 or 9 just because I support the game makers choice to be honest about the quality of the story line , but they ruined it by going for a cheap cliffhanger ending that can only be resolves through a sequel . A Dangerous Planet of Forgotten Paradise - Travel from scorched desserts to tropical forests and an adult playground resort on a beautifully realized paradise defiled , delivered by the power of the Unreal Engine . 10 / 10 This one was easy , the graphics are incredible , the environment is great , the levels aren't too repetitive and it was enjoyable to travel through Bulletstorm . If all you want is good graphics and fun gameplay just read this and buy it . For the rest know that Bulletstorm goes through a decaying planet inhabited by feral humans and mutants constantly warring for food and you have to make it through the large decaying city through the various gangs and monsters in sewers , dams , city streets , disco balls , a horizontally collapsed skyscraper . The game graphics are good , they are bright , colorful , flashy , and are a nice change of pace from the dark grays , whites , and browns so common in most FPS's . In total Bulletstorm has great graphics , awesome skillpoint system and is really fun to play . The story is nothing special and the ending isn't good and the weapons are not unique , but that doesn't take away from Bulletstorm as much as I make it sound . It's a very high quality shooter , with great graphics , and creative game mechanics and honest advertising that should be rewarded over other games that keep releasing the same game over again with new maps and weapons and different characters . Bulletstorm brings something new , it's fun , and that's all I ask for . If you have any questions I'll respond to them in the comments section .
      • 009   First off , this game is very fun , but there's no need for anyone to buy this game ; people should just rent it . The main story is pretty short ( I'd guess around 6 - 8 hours though I'm not sure ) and there's really no other modes to sink your teeth into . There's a challenge mode where you can join your friends and essentially play small portions of levels . However , with no competitive aspect and little variety it quickly becomes boring . The story is a relatively generic jock sci-fi throwaway which ends up taking place solely in a blown up theme park . The game is very vulgar , but in a childish way where it's so stupid it's kind of funny . However other times it comes back around and you're left just shaking your head . The leash is an interesting gaming weapon , but it is very simplistic , allowing for very limited attacks and experimentation . Most effective attacks boil down to leash a guy to you ( unless they're too fast which was annoyingly ridiculous ) kick them away and blow of their head . The guns you get are pretty cool , but with very limited ammo most of the time and only two weapon spots the fun is limited . Also , the coolest part of the weapons , getting a new one and trying it out on a bunch of baddies , ends around 3 / 4 of the way through . The whole point system is very interesting , with how the leash gives him the hud and points for effective play resulting in ammo and weapon upgrades , but at the same time it gives points for things that break the idea . For example groin shots ( dude , you just don't shoot another guy in the d * ck ) , getting drunk , and killing insects . Why not just get rid of all the pretense and make a wicked awesome game , who cares if it does or doesn't make sense . Finally , I had a multitude of glitches , the worst being a game breaking glitch where I had to restart the whole level . Along with that large glitch ( of which I've heard there are many other gamebreaking glitches , mostly involving your AI partner getting stuck ) there are many other smaller ones , for example some of the animations / challenges not activating when they should ( especially for nut shots ) . In the end , this game is essentially a placeholder for Gears of War 3 . If they didn't have to release it when they did , I think Epic could have had an absolutely amazing game on their hands .
      • 017   I'm writing this review for the gamers that are still trying to decide whether or not to buy this game . Here's the short answer ; Rent it or wait until it hits $30 NEW . Mini Review ( Short and Fun Just like the Game-lol ) : The Story ( wait Bulletstorm has a story ? ) The story is set in the future and the character you play is a guy named Grayson Hunt . He's a mixture of Marcus from Gears , Russell Crowe in Gladiator , and a drunken ' swearing Uncle . If you so much as tripped over a FPS ( First Person Shooter ) you'll know the story cuz there all the same : You're a badass , who's got a chip on his shoulder , and someone backstabbed you so now you have to go get some revenge . You go from point A to point B like any other FPS , but in this game you're doing it in style . I did laugh occasionally thru ought the story mode but I basically skipped most of the cut scenes toward the end ( which is cool that Epic allowed the player to do that ) . Oh yeah and there's a lot of swearing . . . . a lot . Graphics / Sound If you have surround sound this game kicks . I also can't say enough about the graphics . They're no Crysis 2 , but they sure look good . Nuff said . Gameplay Let me start out by saying just get thru the first Two Chapters . The rest of the game ( 7 Chapters overall ) is a blast . By Chapter 4 you're able to start really leveling up ( more guns and add ons ) and experiencing what the game really has to offer . This game was made buy Epic ( Unreal and Gears of Wars games ) so they know what there doing . The controls are tight and fluid . Like I said before if you've played a FPS before you'll feel right at home . Bulletstorm's gimmick is something called the Leash . You hit one of the thumper buttons and it brings your enemies to you . Which from there you can kick that enemy back into walls , kick'em and shoot'em , or just blast'em right there . This gives you kill points or kill / style points . The crazier your moves the more points you get . This overall is fun and cool but it does get stale only because of the game's limit of understanding of skill points . What I mean is I Leashed an enemy , kicked him up in the air , shot him in the head and a guy right behind him all at the same time and got 250 pts . It's hard to explain but if you saw it you'd be like wait he did that , and he got the minimum ? What gives ? Replay Value Online play has horde mode ( fight swarms of enemies with friends / online players ) , and Echo's mode ( Revisit any chapter and try to get a higher score ) . Bottom Line ( 3 our of 5 ) It was a simple , fun , funny experience , just short on replay value . Even though this game isn't selling that well I hope Epic decides to make another one . No Online Multiplayer ( Team Deathmatch ) kills buying this game for $60 for me . If you feel the same rent the game ( to just play the story mode ) or like I said buy it for $30 NEW . If you rent the game or buy it used . . . you have to spend $10 online to unlock Echos Mode or the online horde mode ( which isn't worth it ) .
      • 019   I had a good time playing Bulletstorm . It isn't a game that will inspire anthems or change the face of the gaming world but it is a silly experience littered with humor and interesting game mechanics . I finished it and was satisfied with my time spent but I couldn't help but feel a little taken for my dollar . At sixty big ones Bulletstorm falls short . Available on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 Bulletstorm is an original property that is sure to summon multiple sequels that I think will only get better with each iteration ; however , the beginning of the series lacks finality and pivotal features that should have been ingrained in the experience . The disc comes with three modes to play . The single player campaign , echoes mode , and the online mode titled anarchy mode . All three seem like they should offer up the ability to play with friends but only anarchy does and you cannot play split-screen . I would love to sit on a couch next to my buddies as we developed strategies to destroy enemies in bloody and interesting ways together but instead we were forced to swap between levels and break up the experience . The entire campaign is played with two characters at least and littered with multiplayer capabilities but never a chance to fulfill these dreams . You play as the leader of a group of space pirates who crash land on a harsh planet infested with glowing green monsters and steroid hungry mutant gangs . Your mission is to find a way off of the cursed planet and to locate . . . [ . . . ]
      • 021   I regret buying this game for full retail . The game was beaten in a few days , and I have no desire to put it back in the system . The dialogue throughout the game was funny , and it was fun using the sniper and killing with style . The multi-player modes are not very good considering what they're competing up against . I'm going to return this one and pick up another title . I would suggest waiting for the new GOW . Either that , or rent the title and beat it just to get the story .
      • 023   From my blog : Buckeye829 ' s Video Game Reviews - Games Under $40 First Person Shooters tens to take themselves very seriously these days .
      • 042   I've seen a lot of favorable reviews for this game , and honestly I don't really understand why . This game is a gimmick , I knew that when I bought it , but what I didn't know was that the campaign could be beaten quite easily in about 4 hours on the hardest difficulty level . The story is weak at best , and I know that the dialogue is supposed to be vulgar , but after a while it just seems forced . The characters are also some of the most annoying characters I've ever seen in a video game . There were many times I wanted to mute the game to avoid the idiotic phrases . As far as the Echos and Anarchy mode go , I couldn't bring myself to replay the echoes after beating them once as they are just levels from the campaign , and therefore extremely repetitive . Anarchy mode was fun at first , but again , wave after wave of enemies gets old after about 30 minutes . A co-op campaign mode would have been a big improvement , but since there isn't one there really isn't much to do after beating the campaign and the echoes . I've had the game for three days and have done all there is to do achievement-wise except for level 65 on anarchy . Great for a rental or someone who really wants to play the Gears 3 Beta , but it's a disappointment for me .
      • 050   I've been saying it since the demo , underneath the controversy of the language , this game is just plain fun . I got it launch day ( more on that later ) , and have played it everyday since . The graphics are amazing , the backgrounds , and landscapes are absolutely gorgeous . It is simply fun for grown up gamers . This is one I'll return to for a very long time . The only drawbacks I've come across are no campaign co-op . It would have been really nice to have that , but not a REAL con , per se . And one of the characters got pretty annoying in the end of the game . Still , more fun than I've had in a shooter in a long time [ . . . ]
      • 053   Bulletstorm is a fast-paced shooter that changes everything you may have known ( or simply accept ) as the standard shooter . I found the best parts of the game to be skillshot challenges that earn you points that allow you to upgrade guns and use powershots for maximum effect . The fast-pace is also a welcome change that the game does very well . You definitely feel the Gears of War-esque elements implemented throughout the game . While the game is very fun to play , there are a few areas where they rely on old shooter elements that I think could have been updated . When using the leash I think it would have been more compelling if the user needed to do more than just press LB on their controller . Multiplayer is fun , but there is something up with the server because I kept getting dropped from games after 2 - 3 rounds and I run a very well-strong internet . Issues set aside , I believe this game deserves an 8.5 or 9 out of 10 . Its a great game that challenges the status-quo of the typical shooter .
      • 056   Wow , what a game ! Let me begin by saying that I'm a huge fan of Gears so the main reason I picked this game up is due to Gears 3 MP Beta that was included . I was in for a huge surprise when I found out that Bulletstorm is a superb game in its own right and is certainly worth $60 in my book on it's own . I've been playing video games for ages and shooters in particular since the days of Doom and Heretic . This is my favorite genre and lately the shooter games have been growing more and more dull ( yes , I'm looking at you , CoD franchise ) . Bulletstorm gives the FPS genre a much needed kick in the errr knees ! Ok , so perhaps Bulletstorm's humor is rather crude . Yep , I'll agree with that . . . however , in my humble opinion it's not as bad as some of the reviewers have been saying it is . That's pretty much the only negative I have to say about the game though . The single player campaign is a roller coaster ride that starts off a little slow , picks up speed quickly and never slows down for the duration of the game . I don't particularly care about the lack of competitive multiplayer in the game . Gears 2 will hold me over in that department until Gears 3 . The single player is so good , I'm pretty sure I'll be replaying it a number of times . Same with Echoes . . . something super addictive about trying to maximise your points as you find better and better combos . The sheer variety of kills in the game is amazing and vast majority of them are fun to pull off . I highly recommend this to anyone who has been getting bored with CoD type stuff that's been flooding the market over the last few years .
      • 088   When I bought this game for the full $60 , I was so excited to play it . After 6 hours I was finish and I haven't touched the game since . I just wish the game had split-screen co-op . The game is fun but it's lonely . I don't have xbox live to keep my friends together so co-op offline would have been awesome . The reason I didn't give this game 5 stars is because it's too short and the replay value is low . Wait til it gets $20 and take a chance on it . . . or rent it and beat it in 6 hours to experience all the fun !
      • 105   Nothing like a good butt Kicking , and BulletStorm Delivers .
      • 120   Bulletstorm is a stupid game . A stupid , wildly entertaining , moronic , joy of a game . Imagine if you took the droll humor from a Quentin Tarantino movie , added in the effects from a Michael Bay ( splosion ) movie , and then for giggles added the pure over-the-top violence of a Paul Verhoeven flick . Then you mashed it all up into a first person shooter video game . You'd have Bulletstorm . Bulletstorm does not take itself seriously in any facet . The plot is silly and there only as a mechanism to loosely move you forward . The physics correspond to a world where Flubber is apparently the most abundant substance and used in the construction of . . . well everything . The language . . . well the dialog was probably written by a teenager ; one who was living such a cloistered life that when finally free of parental guidance the first thing they did was to integrate every single swear word and off-colored anatomy joke into their daily vocabulary . If any of the dialog from Bulletstorm was featured on broadcast television , the only word that would be unbleeped would probably be the . Should you buy this game ? If you like over-the-top gameplay , a game that you can turn off your brain and mindlessly shoot things and make pretty blood-splattered explosions , then yes - you should absolutely buy this game . If you're looking for something like a JRPG or a RTS . . . no - you are on the wrong page and Amazon's Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought has led you very far astray . Turn back now .
      • 122   I got this game as a eh it looks neat game . Rented it at my local rental place , played it took it back , never looked back same day went to game stop bought it ^ _ ^ The campain could have been alot longer may have i spent around 20 hours on it in three days ! : D So after i finished the awesome campain i went to the multiplayer i thought it was a Team VS team game . No its ( i think there is only one mode ) you have a team in a area and you kill enemies with skill kills like - Kicking enemies in the groin and then shoot them in mid air ! - Bottom line - BUY THIS NOW ! The story is amazing though i hope they make a number two i will buy that one too !
      • 125   I'm not typically one for shooters , but given my line of work , it's nice to come home , shoot some mutants and cause mayhem . Alas , I do not live in New Jersey , explosives tend to be heavily regulated , and there are laws and things that are contrary to mayhem . This is where Bulletstorm comes in . You can definitely see a lineage with it being made by epic , the combat and movement systems reek of a first person Gears of War not necessarily a bad thing , as I would love to climb into Fenix's head rather than be looking over one of his bulky , pauldrony shoulders . The other half of the game seems very Borderlands with the cast of foes that you encounter , with screaming maniacs and mutants running at you , and the rather absurd weaponry . But with the lack of an inventory system and Leveling up , similarities end there . Unless you consider the SP system a kind of level up system . The SP that you earn in the game by doing trick kills allows you to upgrade weapons , buy ammo and enhance attributes of your weaponry and tools , it is rather fun to be able to upgrade your standard fare rifle and turn it into a foe vaporizing blaster . It would be nice to be able to upgrade your character in the single-player story , but you're allowed to do so in multiplayer , which is quite good since you start off gimped , which is an incentive to be increasingly creative in the destruction of your foes . Good Game , don't play it for the story , play it because you have a rough day at work ( or school ) and need to blow off some steam , reducing foes to pulpy masses , feeding them to man-eating plants , or impaling them on cacti will certainly give you a twisted sense of glee .
      • 127   I don't often endorse a game like this , but this is a MUST buy .
      • 145   Looking at its trailers and hearing its reviews , I had little to no expectations for this game . But then I liked Gears of War and Shadow Complex games and since this was also being released by Epic , I thought why not give it a shot . After finishing the campaign mode and trying Ecos and Anarchy modes , I have to say I am quite surprised . * * * * * * * * * * * PROS . * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * - AWESOME COMBAT SYSTEM : This is the best aspect of this game . You can slide , leash to pull enemies , kick them and use variety of weapons with primary and second fire and pull a huge variety of combination off of them . At first you may feel like it may get redundant , but thanks to variety in levels , there are a huge variety of things you can do . Thanks to that you won't get bored till the end of the campaign . - VARIETY IN LEVELS : Other than awesome combat , there is plenty of variety in levels . Throughout the campaign you experience a variety of environments including the space , woody greenery filled areas , abandoned factories , building high in the sky that is about to fall apart and list goes on . - SURPRISES : There parts during the campaign where you will be surprised by certain events and the gameplay that will follow it . I really don't want to spoil it for you , but trust me you will like it . - GREAT GRAPHICS AND DECENT ART WORK : The first time I saw the trailer for this game , it really looked unpolished to me . But now that I have finished the campaign , I can say that since then they seem to have refined it quite a bit . Certain levels just look gorgeous . I guess never doubt the power of unreal engine . - VARIETY IN WEAPONS : There are 8 different types of weapons and that is not including the leash . Each weapons ( including leash ) has devastating alternate fire mode . There is just plethora of combos you can do if you mix and match these weapons . I personally enjoyed each and every one of them . Also , while some weapons may look and sound familiar from other games , they will play very differently in this game . For example with sniper rifle in this game you can change the direction of bullet after you fire it . I personally have enjoyed the variety very much . - UPGRADABLES : To top of each weapon is upgradeable with the skill point you earn by killing enemies in creative ways . This rpg element will truly encourage you to creatively kill enemies and get as many skill points as possible . While this rpg element is not as well thought of as other games , it still adds incentive to do your best . - ONLINE PLAY AND ECOS MODE : While not my favorites ( see cons . ) , after you finish the game , you can stay busy by playing online multiplayer ( anarchy mode ) or Ecos mode which has the same levels as campaign but gives you stars on your performance . * * * * * * * * * * * * CONS * * * * * * * * * * * * - RELATIVELY SHORT CAMPAIGN : Hate how games these days have such short single player campaigns . Unfortunately bulletstorm is one of them . While I enjoyed each and every moment of the campaign I found it to be very short ( ~ 7 - 8 h max and that is because I explore a lot ) . - MINOR GLITCHES : I had my character stuck while jumping over objects at least 3 - 4 times . Unacceptable . All the games have glitches , but under no circumstances your character should be stuck like this . I mean you can't even kill yourself . Restarting the level is the only option . - MEH MULTIPLAYER AND ECOS MODE : Compare to some other games these days , I didn't enjoy the multiplayer so much . I got tired of it rather quickly . Also the Ecos mode felt the exact same as the campaign . I wish they had added more varieties . - LACK OF NEW GAME + MODE : This is a game that can really use a new game + mode ( i.e . start with all the weapons you collected etc . ) . Unfortunately , it doesn't have it . So there are some really cool weapons and upgrades you get towards the end of the game . Unfortunately , if you want to use them again , you will have to play the game again and you will only get to use them for last few levels . Just very unfortunate . * * * * * * * * * * CONCLUSION * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Simply speaking I am looking forward to Bulletstorm 2 . Partly because I enjoyed this game and partly I have faith in the developers that they will improve the weak aspects of this game . All and all I enjoyed pulling off crazy combos in beautiful , but destructible environments , but I wish they had longer campaign and had fixed some of the things described in the con section . I give this game 8.5 / 10 .
      • 156   Before I start this review , let me ask you a few questions . Are you an experienced gamer that has been playing FPSs for years ? Are you bored to tears with military style shooters that are so similar to one another that they all kind of just blend together ? Did this last iteration of killzone feel more like a chore than a good time ? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions then bulletstorm might be the fresh take on the FPS genre that you need . PLOT : I've read a few reviews bashing the plot of this game , and I honestly don't understand why . Okay , nobody is mistaking Bulletstorm for Mass Effect . But you know what ? It's not trying to be Mass Effect . Bulletstorm does not take itself seriously , and neither should you . The language and jokes are supposed to be over-the-top ridiculous , and if you can get into the spirit of what it's trying to do , you'll get some good laughs out of it . And let's be real , if you think other FPSs like CoDMW / BO or BFBC2 have well constructed narratives , then you are sadly mistaken . Graphics : I personally loved the graphics on this game . It's probably not as technically impressive as KZ3 , but the environments , colors and art direction put it above KZ in my book . Some of the outdoor vistas are jaw dropping , and the set pieces in this game are absolute top notch . The only time it got a bit blah was in a few of the underground levels later on . These are few and far between though , and overall this is an extremely pretty game . Gameplay : This is where Bulletsorm shines . The leash mechanics work beautifully once you get the hang of it . The shooting is tight and accurate . Your character feels fast and agile , with a slide / kick function that provides you with several options for how to dispatch enemies . But the best thing about Bulletstorm is that the kill with skill mantra is actually fun ( really fun ) to work at . When I bought the game I thought that some of the kills I saw on the trailer would simply be too difficult to pull off , but the game is great about picking up what you are trying to do , and providing some assistance to help you get it done . You'll want to play this game again just to go back through and find all of the neat ways to massacre your enemies . I almost never repeat a game , and I'm already on my second playthrough of Bulletstorm . NOTE : for the people saying that these mechanics don't add anything to the game , they simply aren't trying to get anything out of the skillshot system . If you go through BS like it's MW , then it will feel pretty familiar , but you'd be doing yourself a disservice . There is so much to explore gameplay-wise , that it is an absolute fail not to experiment with the unique selection of guns and skills . Online : I've only dabbled online , but this seems to be the only failing in the game . I would have really like to seen some competitive online MP , but the closest we get to that in BS is the Echoes online play , which is essentially just an online leaderboard that keeps track of your scores for certain levels . There is also some coop type games that are someone amusing . Overall , these are all pretty lackluster . Verdict : If you want to experience something new in the FPS genre , get this game . Outstanding gameplay and gorgeous graphics highlight a fun , but simple romp on an alien world .
      • 160   Bulletstorm is a light hearted first person shooter , with a lot of over the top violence and lots of action . Basically this is what video games should be , a lot of fun and an enjoyable escape from reality . I also must add , there is a lot of cursing , however after you get into the game it really just becomes background noise and you really don't notice it much . The violence aspect is over the top , but in a very animated sense , kind of like a grownups version of Looney Tunes . Surprisingly , the story isn't that bad . I'm not sure if it's because I wasn't really expecting much because of the type of game it is or if it was actually a good story on its own merits , but either way the bottom line is it was pretty good . There was just as much action as there was character development , you actually felt as if you were fighting for something and someone at the same time . The AI is as dumb as a box of rocks , not really much of a challenge . This game really wasn't meant to blow you away with incredible AI , they were meant to be used as target practice and nothing more . When you hear them speak , this is made pretty evident ; you're not dealing with Einstein here , more like Frankenstein . The environments are beautifully rendered , lots of detail and variety . The character models are a little stiff but not bad , let's just say you won't be mistaking them for real people . Believe it or not , with all that is happening on the screen during a typical gun fight , the aiming system is pretty accurate . Most of the time , you are able to pull off the desired skill shots with little to no hassle at all . The game's controls are tight , not too difficult to learn nor too complicated during the long run , ultimately pretty fluid and user friendly . The online aspect of this game is different than most , you won't find your typical team deathmatch here . I will tell you though ; the multiplayer portion is a lot more fun with friends than it is with random people . You will be entertained , but I don't know if you'll spend Call of Duty hours playing online here in the Bulletstorm world . If I could compare this game to anything else currently on the market , it would be a mash up of MadWorld , Gears of War and Borderlands , and if you ask me borrowing elements from those titles isn't a bad thing at all . If you're looking for a good time , nothing too serious , pick this game up , you won't be disappointed . By the way , in case you were wondering , the title is an inside joke for Xbox 360 players . Michael
      • 168   Game Play : In bullet storm you could shot guys to death but it would take at least 3 seconds per guy this is because the game is based on a reward system similar to a high school in older video games . You are rewarded for killing guys in interesting ways . There are several weapons each with a charge shot and regular ammo . Every where from a drill / spear gun to a revolved that can also shot flares . One other key thing you can do is use some thing you get pretty early in the game called the leash to tug enemies around sort of like the grapple beam in metroid . Later you get some thing for the lease called the thumper which can be used to smack enemies down then bounce them up allowing you time to preform what the game calls skill shots . Another key ability in the game is sliding and kicking of enemies . Whether you slide , kick , or leash enemies the point of doing any of these things is to put enemies in a sort of slow motion state where they are in the air . This allows you to get environmental kills or use special tactics depending on the weapon you are using . An example would be to thump enemies , putting them in the air near by one another , then use a charged shotgun blast which would give you acid rain , which would give you 150 points per enemy depending on how many enemies involved and a few other details . The points are money basically for upgrading things buying ammo and charge shots . Pros Bullet storm is a really fun really pretty game . It has a multiplayer portion which is pretty fun with friends . Cons If you are thinking about buying bullet storm you probably don't care about the story which is terrible but its fun to play part in none the less . The game has lots of interesting things it wants you to do to kill guys , lots of them are not convenient when you are being shot ( blown up or sniped ) , there are also things you can do that should count for some thing but don't but they covered a good many of those bases . * * The worst gripe I have with this game though is that it barely took 3 hours to play . The multiplayer wasn't what the game was about there for the story mode should have been longer . * *
      • 171   I picked the game on pre-order and it's a different style , a different pace and different action FPS . If you're looking for some in depth storyline like Mass Effect or a World War shooter like COD or some lengthy campaign or play value you'll probably be disapointed. On the other hand if you're looking for all-in-out shooten & kickn fun with a barrel of laughs then Bulletstorm is right down your alley . With most tradional shooters out there you're pretty much limited to what you can do in a given campaign only by adjusting the level of playing be it rookie up to veteran . ith Bulletstorm they've given you not only a campaign mode but a mode called Echos where you can play the levels oer and over using and trying different weapons and skill shots combos . All games should have this . You really want to go back and try something different for a higher score . And scoring is key here in a almost arcade feel . Be it campaign or Echos or the important Anarchy mode combo skill points are the thing. You'll find yourself discovering news ways to and new points . I look at this game as a real good action popcorn movie for a Saturday like Independence Day or Twister . Not going to win any awards but great for some quick entertainment and fun from the normal stuff .
      • 179   When I first read about this game I knew I had to pick it up , I am always in the market for an over the top , ridiculous experience . Bulletstorm does not disappoint on that front , my only gripe is that it's over way too quickly ! The skill shot system is a great addition and it allows you to think outside the box and come up with fun , new and interesting way to dispatch the baddies . The graphics are clean , crisp and the game is very fast paced . The controls were pretty quick to pick up though I'm normally the type of player that finds a good approach to a game and sticks with it , so I have to commend this title for pushing me out of my comfort zone . The story is short but fun , I got into it right from the start and followed it closely all the way through , waiting for the next reveal . As I said before , it's a pretty short game . I was able to get through the hardest mode without much trouble I my first try but the entire time I was having a blast . Pros : Skillshot system is great All sorts of fun attacks Crisp , clean graphics Tight , unique controls Cons : Too short !
      • 191   Seriously , why not ? How hard would it have been ? I mean , anarchy mode is fun and all , but sometimes you want to experience a story with a friend . Have you game developers forgotten this ? I'm starting to wonder . . . And , oh yeah , can someone PLEASE make a FPS with more than 8 hours of story mode ? If I can blow through the game in two sittings it's not long enough . Try harder . . .
      • 194   I play and buy most of the new games that come out . Some of which hold my attention for 5 minutes ( Two Worlds ) and others that hold my attention for days and days ( Darksiders ) . This game was one that started out with a bang and hasn't gotten old . The unique graphics ( nice Unreal Engine ) to the story to the VERY unique Skillpoint system . I am blown away . Pros : Graphic great Guns pretty good Leash is awesome Skillshot system with different weapons awesome Story good Multiplayer fun Campaign very fun Echoes even funner Ranking system nice Sound is phenomenal Bosses , different mobs , scenery is awesome . Cons : Seemed to short to me , the campaign mode , hope they come up with a expansion for it Some of the weapons become totally useless at later stages , pistol and bouncy gun thing Not much else . Overall : Great game , great fun , very different then anything else . The combination of awesome graphics and skillshots with funness , it just rocks .
      • 202   I only buy a half dozen games a year , and this is the first one that is at times difficult to play because of bugs . There are numerous places throughout where you can get stuck in a hole where your character is actually half-way in the ground and you end up bound to a certain area of the screen . There are also some weird frame issues in certain areas where the view goes completely white or black and then returns to normal again if you move a little in any direction . The leash and skillshot stuff is pretty fun though ! This is one you buy used , and tradein a couple weeks later and it ends up costing you $10 - $15 .
      • 238   Fun game and a bit longer then most shooters these days , took me ~ 7 hours to finish it off on normal . Rather liked the mechanic behind it , added a bit of spice to the game having to kill with style to get money for upgrades . Co-op is fun but honestly it's almost impossible to do with a random group , much quicker to do solo of you want the achievement . Language is a bit over the top but is many cases it adds a good bit of humor .
      • 246   At my first glance , I looked at BulletStorm and immediatly thought Another lame shooter that would be a waste of money . Eventually I saw a video on Xbox Live which led to me downloading the demo . I had so much fun playing this game ! Gameplay - The gameplay was what I thought would bring this game down . The gameplay is surprisingly smooth though . Sprint with the A button ( such as in Gears of War ) and you have option to melee with the right stick . Made it easy to adjust to . The objective is to either leash , kick or shoot your enemy in different skillful ways . Example - leash your enemy near you and kick them into a cactus with very large spikes . You get skill points for this which you can use for ammo and upgrades . Also as another reviewer stated , You can get stuck in random place not being able to move . It's happened to me at least 3 - 4 times but I've just pressed A twice to slide out of that spot . Graphics - Graphics are nice . Not Killzone or Gears of War nice but they are good . The characters are huge kind of like Gears of War characters but it fits the over the top nature of the game . The environments are where this game shines . They are beautiful and creative . Waterfalls and mountains make for nice visuals along the way . Game Modes - Of course the story isn't the games strong point . The story isn't bad either . So that I won't ruin it with spoilers I won't go on but the campaign is very short but with the wacky gameply it probably didn't need to be any longer . The Echoes and Multiplayer are the games strong points . Echoes you play solo while attempting to ge the best and highest skill points and skill shots to earn more stars . Multiplayer you can play the Anarchy mode , which allows you to play with up to 3 friends and fight through hordes of enemies . Each round gets harder but it's not just about killing the enemy . You much kill them in skillfull ways and earn enough points to move on to the next level . That makes the game different and fun . From what I've played of the multiplayer so far . It seems that they are having alot of lag problems . Hopefully they can get this fixed soon in a patch or update . I have held complete matches just fine though . Conclusion - This is a very good game . It's not a grade A shooter such as Call of Duty , Gears of War or Halo but it is a great alternative to the beyond serious military shooters . It's fun for anyone who loves gory shooters and just playing video games to have fun . I would definetly recommend it .
      • 249   Bulletstorm is a rare game for me , in that not only does it earn five stars from me , but it's a first person shooter at that . In the same way that a movie like Shoot ' Em Up is nowhere near the same level as say , Citizen Kane , they are both near flawless movies , but for entirely different reasons . The same is true of Bulletstorm . It is nearly flawless , but a unique type of game , one that you really won't play for the story , because you really won't get a whole lot out of it . But that's okay , because the developers knew this and didn't try to awkwardly insert any kind of real seriousness into the game . Bulletstorm is over the top in pretty much every single way . It's extremely vulgar , violent and bloody , and it's fantastic . The game takes place on a resort planet , overrun by mutated humans as well as the locals ( and even the fauna ) after your ship crash lands there post space battle with a warship commanded by the antagonist of the story and the man who betrayed you and your squad and has a bounty on all of your heads . That's all I will say as far as the story is concerned , I will not spoil anything for anyone who hasn't played the game . I will say , however , that the writer ( s ) of the game did a great job in that even at the end of the game , many issues are left unresolved . There is no Hollywood ending where everything is tied in a neat bow . Your character does have an arc emotionally , but it's much more reserved than most other games ( or movies , for that matter ) and adds additional layers of depth . When I say resort world , I mean it . Most of the visuals in this game are extraordinary . Colors are vivid , the clouds , sun and sky are breathtaking to look at , and a lot of the game takes place in various tall buildings . The scope of some of the falls are really something to behold . I tell you this only because the care with which each section of the game was detailed is very apparent , and it also really pays off , lending itself greatly to the atmosphere of the game . Immersion can be a beautiful and violent thing . The voice acting is . . . okay . I'm wasn't really ever playing this game for the story , which is a fairly typical and straightforward revenge deal , so the voice work was pretty much all it needed to be . And besides that , more than half the dialog is sexual innuendo with much swearing thrown in for good measure , so does it really matter how the lines are delivered ? Not that much . I think the only complaint I can really make here is that in this game , as in almost all others where the situation arises , the actors use normal speaking volume in a situation that the in-game characters would realistically want to be much quieter in . But hey , nothing's perfect , and the game is so much fun that this complaint is pretty much a non-issue . After crash landing you and one of your squad members have to leave to find some power cells , and in this quest the game really takes a hold of you . You see an elite soldier of the Confederation ( the government and former military which you once served ) , called a Final Echo , battling a group of mutated humans . He is ultimately crushed by a car though , and from his body you take the Leash which will serve you for the remainder of the game . The Leash is made from some sort of matter that can both interact with the environment and pass through parts of it . For instance sometimes to get across a broken bridge you will have to drop something down that you can use to cross over it , so you'll have to wrap it around say , a bus . But you can also throw your Leash through objects to grapple enemies and pull them towards you ( the Leash is used by pressing the Left Bumper , and more advanced uses require you to hold the button down ) . Soon after gaining the Leash , its nano-processors flood your body and you receive your HUD , which fades ( another way in which the game is immersive ) , leaving only your first-person view and no ugly ammo counters or health displays to impede the beauty of the scenery . The Leash serves two functions : Firstly , it is your connection to Confederate DropKits scattered plentifully throughout the game . DropKits allow you to upgrade your weapons and purchase more ammo for them using the points you gain with Skillshots , or , killing enemies in unique and skillful ways . The Leash's second function is that , as previously stated , you can grapple enemies and pull them towards you . Combined with the seven ( I think ? Maybe eight ) weapons and their charged abilities , plus your kick and slide ability ( B and double-tapping A , respectively ) , plus the environment , you must defeat your enemies in new and interesting ways . Some of them are entirely clever , and some will only seem obvious after you accidentally do them the first time . More difficult Skillshots are rewarded with more points you can put towards upgrades and ammo . As far as the weapons in the game go , they are pretty neat and easy to understand . I do think though , that the developers felt like they had to add more weapons than they really needed to . I stuck with four throughout the entire game . Some of them I just found impractical to carry with me , as they only really had very situational uses , and since ammunition in the game isn't plentiful ( which I liked ) , I stuck with weapons that were most effective most of the time ) . All weapons have a secondary ability , and you can carry three weapons total , or , your default assault rifle plus two others . And here is where my greatest annoyance with the game lies . And once I tell you what it is , you can relax , because it's really not a big deal . There are two different ways to change your weapons . First , quick change , which is whatever secondary weapon you're using plus your assault rifle . So if you have the shotgun equipped and you tap Y , you go right back to the assault rifle . Tap Y again and it will go back to the shotgun . The second way to change your weapon is to hold Y , which brings up a weapon interface on-screen . However , when you're out of ammo , or you have emptied a magazine and want to just switch to a different weapon instead of reloading , holding Y ( which does NOT pause gameplay ) really leaves you wide open for attack . Since you are only able to carry three weapons at a time anyways , I don't know why the developers don't allow you to simply cycle through all three weapons . Then there'd be no need for a weapon interface at all . Just my opinion though . Wracking my brain , the only other possible complaint I have is about this game's self-awareness . And by that I mean that there are a few instances in the first half of the game where you might come across a horribly dismembered and bloody corpse , or someone impaled on a spike , and your character makes some sort of comment about how awful it all is . But you know , this is right after I just achieved the Pricked Skillshot for kicking an enemy into a cactus . What I'm doing is really no less violent and deranged than what the murderous locals are doing . Just one more thing that took me out of the moment . However , on to more good . I didn't time it exactly , but the game seemed to be about 8 - 10 hours , and my first playthrough ( which I just finished ) was on the Hard difficulty . Difficulties range from Very Easy to Easy , then Normal , then Hard , then Very Hard . I am no hardcore FPS player , and I didn't have but maybe one part give me difficulty . For the most part even playing on Hard wasn't that difficult . 8 - 10 hours isn't that long , especially when you compare it to something like Fallout : New Vegas , where hundreds of hours can be put into a single playthrough , however , this also means that you aren't required to do pointless filler missions that don't really make sense to the ultimate conclusion of the story . In every objective you know exactly why you're doing what you're doing , and that is needed if you want me to care at all about what's going on in the game . To add to that , even though the story is fairly short , because of the Skillshots it also has a very high replayability factor , which not a lot of games have anymore . Overall , Bulletstorm accomplished a lot , even if it isn't exactly anything mind-blowing . It achieved exactly what it intended to , the game did not crash or lag at all ( at ALL ) , there are some truly epic boss battles , some really hilarious banter between characters , and in the end , there's even a point to the excessive violence in the game . This is one of those few games that I will not say Wait until the price drops if you buy it . You could , of course , but the game is just such a fun experience that I want everyone to be able to . . . well , experience it . * * * Update 2 / 23 / 2011 * * * It was brought to my attention that it is possible to hotkey the weapons you are carrying so as to avoid what I described as my biggest complaint about the game . Therefore that complaint is void . Thanks to Nick C . for bringing it to my attention .
      • 254   As a huge fan of Epic Games and the Gears franchise , I was very excited about this game . But after playing it I am very dissappointed overall . The Pros . . . Anarchy Mode ( Although it was poorly implemented , see below ) Pretty good visuals Nice weapons Solid enough campaign You can actually customize your characters , which was something that was absent in Gears and Gears 2 . A nice addition . Cons No co-op campaign . I realize this may not work with the whole kill with skill gimmick , but its not a good excuse to not have it , in my opinion . Poorly implemented Anarchy Mode . Although the concept is great , and I still play horde mode a couple of times a week , they really dropped the ball here . They rush you between rounds when you have to purchase your weapons , upgrades and ammo . They give you 30 seconds and then that's it , you have to wait until the next round . Why put a time limit on this ? Many times the combinations don't execute properly or you aren't awarded the points even when you do exactly what you were supposed to . Only a handful of maps doesn't help any at all . I know that its probably difficult to make maps for a game like this because of all the interactive elements on each level , but they should have had a few more . I enjoyed the campaign and the anarchy mode will provide you with a few hours of enjoyment , but you'll soon tire of the kill with skill gimmick . I'll probably trade the game in next week ; its not worth holding onto even for the Gears 3 Beta .
      • 256   I've played and beaten the campaign , played some of the multiplayer anarchy , and done some of the echos . That is pretty much everything to the game . Let me start by talking about the campaign . I had a blast with the campaign . The dialog was over-the-top vulgar which played into the humor of the game . Some people may not like it , but I enjoyed it thoroughly . I even replayed parts of the campaign just for some of the one liner dialogs that made me laugh . The action is mostly non stop with breaks and pauses that tie into the story . The story coupled with the entertaining game mechanics makes it top notch . . . except it's far to short and there is no coop for the campaign ( which is highly dumb in my opinion as I got the game primarily thinking it was a coop campaign like gears of war ) . So then one is left to playing echos mode or anarchy . I enjoyed what little of anarchy I could get to work . There were constant desyncs that made it not so fun , but once that's worked out , it has potential . There needs to be a high level of coordination between the team members to make any real progress . The teams I played with were highly unorganized which was a huge limiting factor to progression . I didn't find a way to play against other players , only cooperatively which is mostly fine for me being a coop preference player . I only ever got the same map over and over , but I think there are a half dozen maps with more to come . Once the bugs are worked out in MP , it will be much better . That leaves echos . Echos is basically going through the campaign missions and racking up as many points as you can muster . Then your score is posted on the leader boards for all to see . In reality it is pretty underwhelming because unless you are the best of the best , no one will ever know or care . All that said , the gameplay and control is the important part of the whole game . You are basically supposed to shoot and kill enemies in unique and creative ways . That is only a half truth . There are only a hand full ( probably 100 or so ) different ways the game looks for , for deaths . In reality , it doesn't really reward creativity like the game is advertised . I've done some pretty spectacular things with killing an enemy or a group only to get a 10 point minimum added to my score . Even performing 3 or 4 of the prescripted things , often times only yields points for one of them . Now , I could very well be doing something wrong and not grasping the whole skill shot concept , but the most points I could ever really get were in the order of 500 at a time or so ( mostly on bosses ) . For me it came down to doing the same half dozen effective and point effective skill shots because there were no points for doing things in a flourish manner . The controls themselves were decent , though , my gripe would be having to push the stick button to execute a kick . I'd much have preferred a few more control schemes to get one that worked better for me , but it's a minor gripe . The graphics are pretty , just like every other game to have come out in the last couple years . They are very bright and vibrant and add to the comedic yet serious atmosphere of the game . Overall , the game is quite fun and the skills system has potential , but I wish it would reward creativity instead of who can get lucky enough to execute a prescripted method until all methods are completed . The humor of the campaign is a love it or hate it type of humor that depends heavily on vulgarity . Once the multiplayer is stabilized and expanded , the life of the game will go beyond that of 10 hours ( 6 hours for campaign if you take your time and 4 hours before you get tired of desyncing from other players , maybe an hour or two of echos if you like that style of gameplay ) . For now , I'd say it's worth getting once the price comes down a bit . It's definitely a $40 game , but not a $60 game .
      • 259   Let's cut to the chase - Bulletstorm is the game Duke Nukem fans have been awaiting for over a decade . It's got an amusing story with some incredibly dirty , but funny dialogue . It has some of the best graphics you'll see on any console , but most importantly it's addictive as hell . Ignore all the whiners complaining that its linear and repetitive . Hello , it's a shooter . Would you rather play a shooter where all you do is shoot people with a gun over and over ? Yeah , that's not repetitive I guess . . . DERP . In Bulletstorm you literally have dozens of different ways to kill bad guys at all times and its up to you to figure out the best way . My favorite is shooting a big guy in the stomach , forcing him to double over in pain , run around him and kick off his back plate , and then shoot a flare up his butt . This will earn you a Skill Shot called Fire in the Hole , and as the big guy dies he lets out a really disgusting fart . Great stuff . The game is about 8 hours long if you don't rush through it , but when the campaign is over you then have Echoes mode , which is a ton of fun and adds hours upon hours of more gameplay . Rent it , buy it , borrow it . Just get your hands on it and try it . If you're tiring of the same old stupid Killzone and Call of Duty crap , I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by Bulletstorm .
      • 278   Bulletstorm takes place in the 26th century , where the Confederation of Planets are protected by a secret black-ops army called Dead Echo . The story follows space pirate Grayson Hunt , and his cyborg partner Ishi Sato , who were both dishonorably discharged from Dead Echo after they were betrayed by their commanding officer , General Serano . 10 years later , after a spontaneous and liquor-induced attempt to take revenge on the General and his forces , Hunt's and Sato's ship crash-landed on the planet Stygia , a formerly hospitable planet now overrun with meat-eating plants , feral mutant tribes , criminals , and Godzilla-sized monsters . Hunt and Sato search for a way off the planet , all while doing battle with the General's forces , who also crashed on Stygia after Hunt's attack . Violent goodness ensues . Players utilize a sizable arsenal consisting of over-the-top combat moves and large weapons . Bulletstorm also has a variety of skillshots . The skillshot gameplay system rewards the player for creating and inciting mayhem in the most creative and destructive ways possible . The more unusual the skillshot , the more points players acquire to upgrade their character and unlock weapons , which allow the player to perform even more creative moves and exaggerated skillshots . The Good . . . The game is a refreshing take on what has been the norm for shooters over the last 20 years . You can't just run through and play it like any old shooter you might pick up these days . I mean , I guess its possible to try , but if you do , you aren't doing yourself any favors . With so many different skillshots to choose from , I found myself slowing down and really trying to combine everything I had in my arsenal to string together every over the top skillshot I could muster up . With over 100 different single-player Skillshots , I found myself constantly experimenting . Fortunately , the game has Skillshot list that is accessible at any time , showing you which ones you've used and which ones you've yet to complete. As new weapons and upgrades are purchased , even more types of kills become available , keeping things fresh even after a few hours in . This game succeeds in providing a great setting within which you can shoot , kick and energy leash bad guys to death in a huge numbers of ways . From a simple headshot to remotely guiding a human bomb into other enemies and beyond , the possibilities for being sadistic for points are immense . The world is filled with deadly surprises with which to dispatch foes . Plenty of ways to use the environment as well . I found myself actually stopping ( not for too long ) just to see what I could use around me to impale , or electrocute an enemy . Eight weapons are available at your disposal , each with an alternate fire and distinct Skillshots . You'll need Screamer pistol's rocket-propelled flare to send an airborne enemy into the stratosphere to explode like a firework , for example . By shooting it up his ass , of course . It's unlikely any player will discover or perform all the skillshots during their first play through of the game's 8 - 12 hour campaign . I'm already playing through it again , trying to unlock the official Skillshots that I missed and sometimes just taking a moment to admire the level design and scenery . ( And damn is it pretty ! ) Multiplayer . . . the online co-op mode , Anarchy , is Epic and People Can Fly's take on what's typically referred to as a Horde Mode . Fur players team up to take on 20 waves of increasingly difficult enemies , the key isn't to survive , but to hit a target score in order to advance . Anarchy mode is all about communication , as the mode introduces cooperative Team Skillshots . While all of the game's single-player Skillshots are accounted for , there are plenty of kills specific to the co-op mode . Some of them just incredibly done . ( pulling an enemy apart using 2 leashes ) The bad . . . By far my biggest complaint for this game ( and really not a deal breaker ) is the AI of my squadmates . They seem to shoot people enough , but a lot of the time never follow through with a kill . At times it is merely a temporary distraction to the enemies as they hop back up and charge at you again . Aside from that , while there is actually a story , it isn't much of one , but I didn't play this game for a story . I played it just to have an amazing time creating mayhem . characters are a bit one-dimensional , however the rest of the game makes up for it in beautiful landscapes , an extremely vibrant settings and a whole helluva lot of fun . I had a few issues with texture pop-in . More so throughout the pre-scripted , in-game cinematics than anything.I didnt notice it throughout the rest of the gameplay . On the other hand , I am a known graphics whore and tend to be more nitpicky than most people . The verdict . . . With Bulletstorm , Epic and People Can Fly did an amazing job overall in every aspect of this game . The experience is big loud and fun , and brings with it gameplay that makes it a one-of-a-kind experience . I havent smiled this much while playing a FPS in a very long time . Rarely can you play a game of this genre and get the feeling that each kill is a new fresh exhilarating experience . I don't usually rate a game with numerical scores , but in my book it deserves one , and its number is awesome ! Bulletstorm is a 2011 first-person shooter video game developed by People Can Fly and Epic Games , and is published by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360 , and Microsoft Windows .
      • 284   I will say this first and foremost , this game is rated M for a reason . The Dialouge is adult in nature and the violence is over-the-top . Some rated M games ( i.e . Halo Reach ) are still just a small step above a T , but if you are of a sensitive nature or you dont want to expose your 12 year old to such things avoid this game . Now I would like to say that this game was the freshest concept I have seen for an FPS for a long time ( possibly ever ) . You play Gray , an infamous space pirate marooned on a strange planet after a failed attempt at revenge . The game hits hard and keeps comming from the start . It doesnt take long before you have access to skill shots , more guns , more amazingness . The game rewards you for killing in impressive ways , and it becomes addicting . You find yourself checking the skillshot database and pursuing the next on the list . This game looks amazing , not that you have much time for sightseeing as the game does throw quite alot of enemies in your way from start to finish . My only complaint for launch is that it just seems like they could have done more with the multiplayer , however I have full confidence that they will imporve on it . Overall great game , great fun .
      • 294   I got this game because it was under $40 with coupon . My friends decided to join me and we've had some fun with the multiplayer ( Anarchy to level 20 ) . The pros : You can have fun working together on the Anarchy levels . We did have fun , right guys ? That's it . The cons : No Co-OP , multiplayer ( Xbox ) has bugs that not only affected each of my friends ( different hosts ) , but if quitting out , everyone freezes ( locks up consoles ) . No pause in Anarchy ( play for 3 - 4 hours straight . . mother natures DOES call ) , weird leash bug - - imagine you are at level 15 with friends and your character can no longer leash ( or it stays out ) . . . you got to quit out and get re-invited . . . you start out with no more upgrades , and chances are , your rejoining might freeze the game ( too late for a Patch , Epic ? ) We pulled some 11pm to 5am gaming with this . . . insane ! Just insane . . . I think The CliffyB pulled the wool on us with this ; we being the loyal , rabid Gears fans ( we are ! ) and put this * & $ ! out as a stop-gap to allow Gears 3 post-date in a profitable ( greed of war ? ) 3rd QTR ( likely Epic's call , not Dude Huge . . . I so want to trust that guy . . . but ) . Cliffy , if you read this , bring back some more GoW2 XP weekends . . . those were fun ! If you think you'll have fun in the multi-skill ways to kill the enemy ( voodoo , gas-bang , Trap shoot . BossKill 750 . . . ) like some bloody amusement , get this . If you are a parent , or offended by potty-humor and gore . . . ( hey , it's just a game ! ) . . . I wouldn't bother . Afterall , my friends that did grab a copy , got it at discount ( Who really pays $60 for a game ? ? ? ) and we had fun . We didn't smack down each other ; we got along and helped complete the multiplayer . Meh , my rank is in the 18K - 25K range ( my ranking goes down the less I play . . duh ) . PS . . . my friends think I am crazy but spot on with this review . I can't agree more . I'd give it less stars , but you know , they don't allow zero .
      • 300   I have been playing FPS games for years . I own both a PS3 and Xbox 360 and own all the FPS exclusives for each and I must say , none of them have done anything like the Kill with Skill that Bulletstorm does . It is a breath of fresh air in a genre that has become pretty worn down and it adds to the replay value of the game . The single player campaign is fun and the characters are more than just people with guns . They have motivation past saving the country / world . The beginning of the game acts as sort of a prologue to give background to why the main characters are in the predicament they are in and sets up the story . The dialog is hilarious and I'll discuss the humor in a bit . The graphics are beautiful and the locations are massive and detailed . The colors are very vibrant and bright which I thought was nice because it was different than the grainy and dark colors of most FPS games . It used to be a resort planet so the landscape is beautiful and the cities and hotels give a nice place to battle . The humor of the game is very immature . It is toilet humor and I found it hilarious . This type of humor is what I find funny , but everyone has a different sense of humor so I will just warn you and say its a lot of sexual innuendos . Most of the skill-shots themselves are sexual innuendos ( for example blowing up a group of enemies is called a gang-bang ) . So if you have young children and do not want them exposed to that than keep them away from this game cause there is that and vulgar language . Other than the single player campaign , there is two other game modes . There is Echoes mode and multiplayer . Echoes are small parts of the single player campaign that you can play and it will time you and keep your score . Your score will be posted on leaderboards so you can compare yourself to your friends . This is fun , but can get old cause it is the same thing over and over again . The multiplayer is alright . You fight enemies in waves with four people online and its fun but you end up fighting the other people for kills cause there are not that many enemies at first . The most frustrating part is the challenge enemy . An enemy comes out and a particular skill-shot appears over him and you can get extra points for doing it right . What ends up happening though is everyone starts leashing and kicking him to set up the skill-shot and he dies before anyone can finish . Since it just came out yesterday , I'll just say nobody is used to multiplayer yet so people will figure it out but that was frustrating for me . I also felt the multiplayer was lacking because you do not get to fight other people . It is not a big deal but I thought it would be cool to kick and leash your friends in a team deathmatch . Overall , this game is alot of fun . Its funny and fast paced and just over the top . Its different than most FPS games and it provides a nice break from COD and Halo , but with the new Killzone out on the same day , I think they should have added more to keep my attention . It is a 5 star fun game , but loses a star for lack of replay value since the echoes get boring and the online multiplayer does not have any real variety .
      • 305   This game is simply amazing . . . I am so glad I bought it , definitely worth every penny I spent for it . I am going to start off by saying that Bulletstorm is a very well made game that deserves full credit for it's wonderful design , playability and storyline . The moment I heard about this game , as well as playing the demo . . . I knew that this would be awesome , and my assumptions were correct . . . . IT IS INDEED AWESOME . All I can say is , is that if you are thinking about picking this up . . . Don't think twice , JUST BUY IT ! , It's that good . Here are my PROS and CONS : PROS : Graphics ( Best ever seen using the Unreal Engine ) Storyline ( Very good storyline . . . Everything fits very well from beginning to end ) Sound ( Sound is very clear and easy to hear ) Controls ( Controls are easy to learn , and are quite smooth ) Loading ( The Loading times are very quick , definitely no slow loading times in this game ) Dialog ( The dialog isn't going to be for everyone , but in my personal opinion the dialog is what keeps it fun and exciting . . . definitely a lot of cussing , and I mean A LOT ! ) Voice acting ( Voice acting is good for being categorized as humorous , but for serious points . . . it is also good as well ) Multiplayer / Anarchy Mode ( At least they let you play some type of gameplay with your friends . . . it's better than nothing ) Skillpoints ( The way that the Skill point system is laid out is perfect . . . It's exciting to try out new thing's ) Upgrades ( Upgrades are very easy to get , you can easily customize and earn weapons using your skill points that you earned . You'll never run out of ammo , especially if you upgrade a weapon to the max ) Weapons ( Weapons are new and exciting . . . You can do some serious damage with the weapons you can get . The weapons are very fun to use ) CONS : The only CON I can really think of is . . . There is no verses mode in Multiplayer . . . . Like you would see in such game titles like Black Ops , Halo , Etc . BOTTOM LINE : Just get this game , you'll be regretting not giving it a try . Bulletstorm is new , exciting and provides enough gameplay for anyone to enjoy . I know that I had fun playing this .
      • 314   Wow . . where to begin ? The dialog and plot are horrific . I have seen B movies with better dialog than this game . I am an avid gamer , and looking at the other reviews I am wondering if I am playing the same game . They try to give the game some edge with constant swearing , which is fine if it fits into the characters , but here it's painfully obvious it was done simply to make the game seem hardcore . The usage of some of the swearing does make me laugh though , as the script was definitely written by someone who has no idea how to swear properly . Kind of like if I drop the F bomb here , and here and here , it will seem tough . Imagine someone just learning English trying to swear . That's what it is , and it's pathetically funny . OK , so let's forget the horrible dialog and plot , and just look at this from a pure game . You might as well be running along a tube and shooting , as this is one of the most linear games I have ever encountered . The only unique thing about this game is the leash , but after the 50th time of using it , it's played out . Leash , kick , shoot . Leash , shoot , kick . Repetitive is being kind . If doing the EXACT same thing over and over seems like fun , this is your game . They try to get you to switch things up and get precision bonuses , but in reality , it's all the same old thing , each time . Over an over . And again . Get the point ? Save your money . If it really seems interesting , wait a few weeks and get a rental or used copy . There should be plenty available . Wait a little if you are trying to get the GOW3 beta . That * might * make it worth it .
      • 322   The main hook for this game is that each level is treated like an old school video game , whereby the highest scorer was king . Back in the day , you would compete to see who had the highest score on Donkey Kong or Pac Man . This game combines the high-scoring-competitiveness of those games with the high quality graphics of todays ' next-gen First person shooters . And that brings us to : Bulletstorm . - Personally , I'm tired of First Person Shooters . And to me , this is nothing but a glorified Quake . I was hoping it would be a different refreshing take on the genre , but it wasn't . Yes , it's brilliantly colorful and fast-paced and has different weapons and cool different ways of killing an enemy , but I found it boring . Slaughtering your way through a level in this game does not feel rewarding in the least , and I could care less about my point total , or comparing it online with some kid in Japan who will always hold the highest score for that level anyhow . People don't care about their score anymore . So by including something we USED to care about in a game that's meant for kids of TODAY , you get this mixed bag that doesn't work . The graphics are great , and there's a lot going on - but there's almost TOO MUCH going on : Yes I can kill a guy a few different ways but there's SO MUCH action going on or other guys attacking you that it's not like you can spend time appreciating the devestation you create . Sure , it looks cool , but to me , it's just the same as every other game out there .

    • Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) As the title of the review says , single player campaign a little over 5 hours . 4 out of 5
      • 027   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) The campaign is decently fun , too easy on the hardest difficulty . not very much gameplay . I only bought it for the early beta access to gears 3 .
      • 043   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Thought the game would be different , but after playing through the campaign , saw no replay value for doing the same thing over and over .
      • 096   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Fun game , the single player is great , multi-player is only fun with close friends . Doing the echo challenges is fun trying to get the highest score and getting creative .

They usually have something funny to say while blasting part the many many mobs that came to kill you . I didn't really run into to many bugs and stuff . Which was definitely nice .

      • 317   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I hate games that make you hold a button to run .

    • Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Finished the campaign last week . It was produced by the father of Gears of War , Cliff Bleszinski . It's the video game equivalent of a Michael Bay film ; unadulterated donkey-kicking fun . Just don't expect a Cormac McCarthy storyline . The variation of ways to take down the waves of baddies will keep you entertained , though . And just like a bowel movement on a rocking ship , it's a way better time than having to sit through an episode of Glee with Gwyneth Paltrow in it .

      • 231   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Its a fun game overall , I like the banter between the characters . They usually have something funny to say while blasting part the many many mobs that came to kill you . I didn't really run into to many bugs and stuff . Which was definitely nice .

    • Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I have been playing FPS games for years .
      • 018   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I had a good time playing Bulletstorm . Your mission is to find a way off of the cursed planet and to locate . . . [ . . . ]

They also paid a great deal of money for lots o advertising . The game gets boring afte a while using the same guns killing enemies with skill and although the graphics are quite good it is glitchy . I didnt even finish the campaign . The online is a horde mode where u just try and get points but kake sure to play in a private party with friends cause otherwise ull have to play with dumbasses . Not worth 60 , maybe 20 bucks

      • 040   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I've seen a lot of favorable reviews for this game , and honestly I don't really understand why .

      • 087   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) When I bought this game for the full $60 , I was so excited to play it .

There are plenty of fun little tricks and unique kills to keep you interested throughout the game . Don't play with the kids around , though , as the language is laced with a litany of PG13 to R rated gems . There's a multiplayer component as well , for those who are so inclined .

The guns are cool , my favorite is the head hunter , its a sniper rifle where you can control the bullet . the multiplayer isn't fantastic its pretty much just a firefight where you have to score points to pass the round and it only goes to 20 rounds . besides the multiplayer my only problem is the content in it it does have a content filter but the language with out it is ridicules .

Story is so so but if you want a great story play ME2 if you want action and gratuitous violence then this is the game for you . Actually if you ever wanted to play Gears in first person this is about as close as you will get . Over all fun game , want to play again and have played levels over a couple of times . Multi-player is fight the wave after wave game play and can be fun if with the right people . The more sick and violent that you can be with the way you kill the more points you get . Simple as that . Points are your cash and if you want to buy ammo and upgrades ya gotta get creative with the way you dispatch your enemies . Don't kill them outright move them around to set them up for a creative kills using special weapons and the environment . Fun over all game and I can see picking it up and playing again even months later and still having fun with it so you may consider buying . Otherwise rent and have fun with it and move on .

      • 218   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Right now I can tell you that if your even considering buying this game , you'll have ALOT of fun playing it .

You spend so much of your time just looking around trying to find new ways to kill people . The graphics are amazing . Very similar to GOW2 . If your going to buy it used though watch out . Since this game was produced by EA they charge for multiplayer access . Buying it new gets you access with a code in the box but for renters and used buyers beware . Other than the crap that EA pulls this game is totally awesome and in my opinion worth the money .

    • Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I'd like to compare Bullet Storm with Duke Nukem mostly because it's over the top and attempt to take seriousness out of the game and put in intense violent action with funny colorful dialogs .
      • 008   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) First off , this game is very fun , but there's no need for anyone to buy this game ; people should just rent it .

Although Best Buy gave me back tons of money for it , which I put it towards Gears 3 : P

      • 242   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I'd like to compare Bullet Storm with Duke Nukem mostly because it's over the top and attempt to take seriousness out of the game and put in intense violent action with funny colorful dialogs . • 245   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) At my first glance , I looked at BulletStorm and immediatly thought Another lame shooter that would be a waste of money .
      • 255   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I've played and beaten the campaign , played some of the multiplayer anarchy , and done some of the echos .
      • 292   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I got this game because it was under $40 with coupon .

    • Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I'm a huge Gears of War fan , so when Epic created this new IP , I was somewhat interested .

I mostly got it for the Gears of War Beta , and thought that this game would be just a little bit of fun while I wait . But , I was quite surprised to find it a Well Made game . The story isn't a Final Fantasy epic , but it's good , with characters you genuinely come to love , and hate .

    • Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) The main hook for this game is that each level is treated like an old school video game , whereby the highest scorer was king .
      • 121   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I got this game as a eh it looks neat game .

    • Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) The title of this piece refers to an interview I once saw with the developers of Halo : Combat Evolved .

      • 016   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I'm writing this review for the gamers that are still trying to decide whether or not to buy this game .
      • 141   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Bulletstorm is DEFINITELY a spiritual successor and offspring of Gears of War . All the hallmarks are there : chunky Unreal-engine character design , gruff space-warrior voice-acting , guns that would weigh upwards of 75 pounds , and long linear level design with twists and turns and scripted events . This is a VERY fun game and contains cool guns , plenty of explosions and big scripted moments , and will entertain you for a few weeks . That being said , it's not super deep and the fun runs out once the single-player game is over . The multi-player is just there . Not great , but not bad , and definitely not worth paying for if you pick the game up used . Enjoy it while it lasts and know what you're in for !
      • 157   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Loads of fun . Moves fast and full of action . The dialogue is really funny and I enjoy the characters . Has a few technical problems , though , so I give it a four out of five . For almost every hour I play I find some unfortunate glitch - mostly getting stuck on things in the environment so I can't move forward . Hopefully there will be a patch soon . Either way , this is so different than any other first person shooters that have come along in in the past few years . A refreshing play worth more than just a cursory glance . You'll particularly like this if you like Gears of War and Unreal Tournament .
      • 159   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Bulletstorm is a light hearted first person shooter , with a lot of over the top violence and lots of action . Michael
      • 250   This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I'll start by saying that I HATE FPS ( First Person Shooters ) !

    • Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) This game is AWESOME . If you enjoy first person shooters with some comedy and overall fun , this game is for you . This game compares to gears of war alot . If you have any doubts , just dl the demo , and you will see that I tell no lies . The weapons are awesome , and killing with skill is easy to learn , and then you just go and kill everyone . Its effin sweet to say the least , plus the ending . . . . . . . . . .
      • 082   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) I love this game so much ! I play it a lot , the other game modes are very fun . Love the guns to . The game handles very well and is very easy to understand .
      • 131   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Bulletstorm is unique from any other first person shooter out there . If you like over-the-top violence & action with a quirky sense of humor , then this is defiantly the game for you . A pretty kool game overall . . .
      • 221   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Fast-paced , funny and cool . Kind of quirky , but if you're into that sort of thing you'll probably love this game .

    • Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) This game is simply amazing . .
      • 045   Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Fun game . EXTREMELY linear . Skillshots are fun . I think Im realizing that the older I get , the less fun certain games get . ( i.e . shooting an enemy in the butt or crotch for extra points is more a chore than a good time ) The things like the flail , wrapping a chain with bombs around an enemies head and then punting him back into the thick of battle for major carnage , guiding sniper rounds into enemies Wanted style , and disintigrating an enemy from the waste up are all still fun things to do . Kind of Call of Duty meets Borderlands . I would recommend for ( of age ) teenagers and casual gamers . Older , and more critical gamers will likely find this game fun for only a few hours and then move on to something more enjoyable long-term . . .

• Bulletstorm ( Video Game ) Wow . . where to begin ?

I dont doubt its probably because they are more focused on the BETA and Gears 3 game itself . Im sure either way the game would sell , you could have put the BETA in a new adventures of barbie and ken game and people would buy simply because of the Gears 3 BETA . Overall the game is OKAY and the BETA is awesome lol .
