002 4 While this anime is a fine example of anime . This anime would definently be one of the most cherished animes I have ever seen / own . I DO NOT recommend buying the DVD set . ( I know it is more expensive , depending on where you get it , but I would peronally buy the DVD's seperately and not in the set . ) I recently got the first collection and the second collection for X-mas only to find that the 2nd disc only played episodes 6 and 7 . The only parts of episode 8 - 10 that would play were the intro to the next episodes , the one after the credits . However , I would recommend this to anyone that likes any form of the gundam series .
Edit :
I currently have not attempted to watch the second collection yet since I am still working on the first , and praying that there are no more mishaps with the 1st collection . I bought this from Border's books , probally should have got it from amazon.com , but my parents bought it . I got the first one from the local Borders books , and when that one didn't work I went to a Border's an hour away from my house only to find that it was still defective . I honestly say if you really want this series , and you don't care about the possiblilty that it can be faulty by all means go right ahead , but this happened to me , and it can happen to you as well .
Edit 2 : Complete collection 2 works perfectly fine , so there shouldn't be any faulty discs in that one .

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing - Complete Collection 1 ( DVD )
Upon reaching episode 8 on disk 2 the DVD began to malfunction ( skipping and frozen images ) . Other than that , this was a very good purchase .
005 4 I give the series a three start rating , but only one star to this specific box set . I've never had so many defective discs in a single box . They seem to be warped , and when stuck in a player that spins up to a decent speed , they start vibrating like crazy . In by box , discs 1 , 2 , and 5 all share the issue , with 2 being so bad my main DVD player connected to my TV refused to play it . Only my 5.5 year old PowerBook with a low speed DVD-ROM was able to play it .
I found similar problems with the second set of Gundam Wing as well .
006 4 Well , after ordering this set , and then reading about the disc 1 errors , I was a little hesitant in my purchase . The moment this came in , I put in disc 1 and played through episodes 3 - 5 . I have had no issue and everything plays great .
To complete this set , order the Complete Collections II and Endless Waltz . This was on of my favorite shows years ago , and I'm glad I can own it for a fraction of the cost compared to the original box set . The entire series cost me $40 .

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing - Complete Collection 1 ( DVD )
Broadcasted on American TV in 2000 , Mobile Suit Gundam Wing ( originally entitled New Mobile Report Gundam Wing ) was the country's first exposure to a franchise that has captivated Japanese viewers for over 2 decades , roping in a new fanbase . And now Bandai's Anime Legends branch has released this series in 2 money / space-saving bundles , the first bundle containing the first 25 episodes in 5 disks . In the After Colony ( AC ) year 195 , mankind has found a new home in space colonies . But Earth's unified government rules the colonies with an iron fist , using giant robotic mobile suits to keep the populace in line . Fed up , colonial rebels pair 5 teenage soldiers - - including the suicidal Heero Yuy - - with the most advanced mobile suits and send them to Earth to wreak havoc . But the chosen few tasked with liberating their people sure have their work cut out for them .
While this series was popular on both sides of the Pacific - - and the first alternate universe Gundam show to get its own sequel - - it also had its fair share of critics , particularly those who were already familiar with Gundam . For starters , any diehard fan can point out the dozens of cues Wing takes from earlier Gundam shows and films . You've got the oppressive Earth government ( Zeta Gundam ) , the masked villain with a hidden agenda ( Mobile Suit Gundam ) , the hero's girlfriend who's also the sister of said villain ( MSG again ) , soldiers who've missed their psychiatric evaluations ( take your pick ) and so forth . Another negative is how the show's diverse , but bizarre , cast of characters constantly talk about war and peace . While this is a central feature in all things Gundam , and while some of what is said makes sense , it's mostly philosophical babble used to make the show sound more intellectually refined than it really is ( and in some cases , this actually worked ) . And Wing's not so big on character development either . Take Relena Darlian , the hero's girlfriend / masked villain's sister . Though she's supposedly an important character , she doesn't really do anything except follow Heero around , and he's trying to kill her . . .
So as not to end this review on a sour note , Wing flies in other areas . Amazon reviewer Charles Solomon once said that Gundam fans care more about mecha battles than tightly woven storylines or credible character arcs , and to a certain extent he's right . Wing has plenty of robot-on-robot action to go around . Though the one-sided fights between the Gundams and the cannon fodder get old after a while , the bad guys soon up the ante with their own secret weapons . For those who have watched the show on TV , watching it in its original Japanese format makes for a new and interesting experience . And for those who buy DVD's for the Easter eggs , each disc in the collection feature character bios and mech specs ( both of which can be found online ) , DVD credits , and assorted anime trailers from Bandai .
This series is rated for ages 13 and up : Violence , Adult Language .

010 4 The anime itself is easily 4 stars , maybe 4 and a half . My only real issue with it is the somewhat campy nature of some bits ( Zechs ' mask , the five pilot's young and identicle ages , the forcing in of antiwar messages where they do not make sense ) and , more importantly , the female lead . Relina , in my opinion , is disturbed to the point of being creepy . Which is strange because that was the completely wrong effect the writers went for . She is the type of peace activist who goes out of her way to preach in a warzone and really does not fit , in my opinion .
Other than that , this is a great series with many great characters , a solid story and good action . I highly recommend it .
So why only one star ? Well it's simple . The first disk is glitchy . I've tried multiple DVD players , one less than a half year old , others no older than 3 years . The first time I played it I could not get past the midpoint of the third episode . I exchanged it and had the same problem . Trying it again as I type this and it's going through , but I still cannot select episodes 4 or 5 manually and God only knows if it'll lock up again on me . This is simply shoddy work which should have been fixed by now , considering how long ago it was released . Buy this at a store , if you really want it that bad . You can exchange it more quickly if there is a problem and can demand they have it tested out for you before you pay for it . By the way , it just locked up on me again . Gonna exchange in the morning , trying their remaining 5 sets in store . If I can't get one working I'm getting my money back and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lawsuit eventually for Best Buy being sold such a defective product .

Like many others , I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy these two sets because of disc problems others have had . But thinking of this Anime for so long I couldn't help but to risk it . It was well worth it , I am just about done and all the discs work just fine . If you love this Anime just like myself and want to watch it again on your TV , dont think twice about it anymore !

014 4 I received this item in perfect condition . I enjoyed being able to watch this classic once again since I used to watch it in my childhood . I do recommend this to any anime fan that does not mind classics or mechs .

I have read many reviews on this product and was a little skeptical about the technical quality of the product . I decided to order it anyway and boy am I relieved . I had no problems with any of the discs ( I use a PS3 ) . I once read a review that this follows much of the same time line as many of the other Gundam series , which is not true . I think that is what makes this probably one of the best out of the entire series . 5 Heroes trying to save earth and space without asking so much as thank you in return . Pretty basic but a very well put together series .

Like I said this anime is one of my favourites and to get the full effect , put the japanese audio and the sub titles on but any way , i've seen many reviewers that had problems with the disc but i only had trouble with episode 5 but that was it so it didnt ruin the greatness of this show and I cant wait to get the 2nd collection ( by the way wtf ! ) and endless waltz to top off my gundam wing collection !

023 4 When I received the DVD's they were all in perfect condition , but when I started to play them my DVD player made a loud rumbling sound while it was playing ( as did my laptop when I played them on it ) , but all the episodes played fine I just had to turn it up loud enough to hear over the DVD player itself . The anime itself is 5 stars in my book but the loud rumbling noise knocked the ranking down a bit for me . Overall I'd say if you really like the show and don't mind the weird noise buy it .
024 4 i love the cartoon reminds me when i use too watch it a long time ago but some of the cd's mess up when you put them in the dvd player ,
The dvd starts to make a shaking sound but some of the other cd's from the set are ok they dont make that shaking sound .
other wise one of my favorite cartoons gotta get one of these collections !
025 4 This particular box set brings back memories of those hot afternoons as a kid , running in to watch this show on Cartoon Network. Now that I've grown up a bit I do enjoy it in doses , the series while still a clingy bit of nostalgia for me is much more clunky unedited and the main characters sometimes a bit over simplified ( I.E . Heero Yuy - Prodigal emotionless mercenary , Duo Maxwell - Death bringer with a smile , Trowa Barton - other emotionally void character for other more valid reasons ) . Where I feel the main characters lack the supporting cast / OZ organization picks up some of the slack. For example , Lucrezia Noin was ironic and proper foil to the love stricken Relena Peacecraft / Darlian .
All in all not bad for nostalgia sake but can be very very bland for those that aren't able to forgive the simple plot , mostly simple characters , or mind waiting eons for the plot to pick up it's bum and move a bit .
026 4 The under tones of Gundum Wing has relevance now in 2007 as it did then in 1995 . It is just one of the best Gundum series out there .
My only compliant is the menu structure of the DVD is a bit slow . Besides that , everything else is perfect .
028 4 Mobile Suit : Gundam Wing was the third Anime series I have ever watched ( Sailor Moon the first and DragonBall Z the second ) and one of a few that I would still return to now that I have grown up and lost interest in other or new Anime . I was only nine-years-old when I started watching Gundam Wing and . . . wow . . . did I love it . I remember coming home from school and tuning in to Gundam Wing , at 5 : 30 P.M . , at channel sixty-seven , on Cartoon Network , on Toonami . Now that I am sixteen-years-old , I do not watch cartoons nor Anime . I do not plan to buy Sailor Moon nor DragonBall Z on DVD . I do not even bother watching Cartoon Network ( now my favorite channel is HBO ) . My point is that Gundam Wing stands out as one of the best Anime series of all time and older people or people who do not even watch Anime can still love it . I am still in love with it : the story , the characters , and of course , the mobile suits ( Wing Zero being my favorite ) . In my opinion , these are the best designed mobile suits ever created for a Gundam series . I look at the mobile suits of the other Gundam series and not one appeals to me . . . not even Gundam Seed . Now , after nearly 7 years , I am still here and am still in love with Gundam Wing .
For a great price , others can return to Gundam Wing instead of buying The Complete Operations box set , which is highly expensive and that was the one I almost bought thinking that was better , but it is not . I had bought Endless Waltz to find a way to watch the story because The Complete Operations was just too expensive . This Anime Legends : Collection #1 DVD of Mobile Suit : Gundam Wing contains the first twenty-five episodes spread across five discs . I have not watched the series for over four years and this DVD ( along with Collection #2 ) helped me relive the experience . The day I received this , I went straight ahead and watched the first eighteen episodes in six hours . Before watching , I had told myself to savor it and watch only three episodes a day so that it would take me almost seventeen days to watch the whole series . Within those six hours , I could not stop myself and told myself repeatedly one more episode during the fourth , fifth , seventh ( definitely could not stop there ) , tenth ( great episode ) , twelfth , thirteenth , fifteenth , sixteenth , and finally I stopped at the eighteenth episode . This proves that this series is addicting .
A word for everyone : Get this Anime Legends : Collection #1 , the Collection #2 , and also the movie , Endless Waltz , of Mobile Suit : Gundam Wing instead of the individual operations or The Complete Operations . Mobile Suit : Gundam Wing is the best Gundam series and one of the best Anime series out there .
032 4 I have no complains , product meets my expectations , service was great & timely . Keep the good work ! ! !
033 4 This is by far the best anime mecha series ever fathomed , i've watched several other mecha shows and have not found one that has surpassed the action , in-depth character knowledge , and drama in Gundam Wing .
Just hearing the Menu Screen music makes me want to watch more and more , i have successfully watched the series atleast 15 times now and still it hasn't worn off of me . Me and my sister are huge fans and really wish there was more .
If you're debating on getting this mecha or another , never flip a coin . This is by far the best you can buy with 50 episodes on 5 discs in the 1st compilation , it's great !
I hope everyone will enjoy this series as much as me and my sister have , and hope you recruit others into your obsession with this great show .
034 4 I fell in love with this series the summer of 1998 when it was aired on Cartoon Network . . . then was aired again as uncut with the nightly Toonomi segment . The story line is amazingly complex and detailed and none of the main characters seem to be just 2 - D , but rather their personalities are built up ! If you love Gundam , check out Gundam Wing ! I bought this stright from amazon without going through a third party seller , brand new . It came wrapped in plastic ( just like you would get if you bought it in the store ) and in perfect condition !
036 4 I got this ( along with collection 2 ) for Christmas , and most of the DVD's didn't work ( in multiple players ) . So I had them both replaced , only to realize that I had the same problem with the replacements . I don't know if Amazon recieved a bad batch from the company or what , but I'm going to try and find another set .
As for Gundam Wing itself , it doesn't get much better as far as animated series go .
037 4 I watched the series after working with a guy who liked talking about Gundam .
It was on tv back then . Gundam Wing is set in the future . In the future people will be living in space , in orbit around earth . They will be living in giant condominiums in space . Teenagers will pilot giant robots and use them to murder people . the mainstream military or government will be led by 25 year old Ace Officers with super hair and super eyebrows . Pretty quickly into the series the most remarkable thing becomes the dialogue . the characters don't so much talk to each other as they lob intense soliloquy toward each other like giant lances aimed at the world .
How can America compete in the global future when japanese kids and engineering students grow up watching shows about using giant robots to look cool and commit violence , or order magical creatures to attack each other ? We've got Alvin and the Chimpmunks , and meticulously non-violent shows like Scooby Doo and Super-Friends .
038 4 Gundam Wing is a series that mainly focuses on politics and war . The series follows a group of five 15 year old boys who have been trained to pilot state of the art mobile suits known as Gundams . The Gundam pilots were trained to battle a powerful insurgency known as Oz . As things begin to heat up between OZ and the Gundam pilots , new political groups will form and old ones will dissipate . Old conflicts will end and new ones will arise . To obtain peace the Gundam pilots must come to grips with the events taking place in their world and put an end to all the fighting . But , how far are people willing to go to obtain their goal .
Okay first of all . . . I Love Gundam Wing ! I have to admit its the only gundam series I like . This complete collection is fantastic . I love the box it comes in and its a lot cheaper than buying every single volume for the regular box set . As far as the show goes I can't say enough good things about . The plot is intricate , the characters are interesting and its fun to watch them progress through the show . When most people think of action shows . . . they think that action is all that they will be getting . Gundam Wing is different . It also deals with politics and the intricacies of war . I highly recommend this show to anyone looking for more than just action . Don't get me wrong , this show has plenty of action but not to the point where its senseless violence .
039 4 I first saw Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network and loved it . The battle scenes were incredible and the interplay between the characters was as realistic as one could possibly hope for . At that time , I thought it the perfect heir to the Robotech universe .
That was before I really got into anime such RahXephon ( probably the best of the transforming mecha shows ) , as well as other series like Le Chevalier d'Eon and Last Exile , that were far and away more sophisticated and better suited to an ' older ' anime geek .
I confess , the giant robot genre got old really fast .
Sometimes it's best to leave fond memories as such . Watching Gundam Wing again , I came to realize just how much I hated the main character Heero Yui . Within less than three episodes , I totally wished that he would commit suicide as he so often ( to the point of ridiculousness ) planned to do in order to keep the Gundams from falling into enemy hands . The other characters who got on my last nerve were Wu-Fei Chang ( who was obviously overdosing on Sun-Tzu ) ; Quattre Raberba Winner ( wasn't he supposed to be ' Arabic ' ? ) ; Relina Dorlian and Dorothy Catalonia of the scary uni-brow made me roll my eyes . I mean , why fall in love with a guy who tells you that he's going to kill you after you invite him to your birthday party ?
Interestingly enough , it was actually the so-called ' bad guys ' who still make this show worth watching . The idealistic Treize Kushrenada , a seeming throwback to a more chivalrous age ; his cold and calculating hench-woman Lady Une ( who later undergoes a most interesting transformation ) ; Lucrezia Noin , the loyal Oz soldier who begins to question exactly where her loyalties lie . . . and with whom ; and of course MY personal favourite character - - the mysterious Lightning Baron , Zech Merquise ( aka Millardo Peacecraft and Relina's brother ) . Some people thought the half-mask was cheesy , but I thought it made him a very compelling and unique character .
The bad guys are why I give this series a three ; though I admit I don't think I'll be watching it ever again . Oh well . . . the memories remain .
030 4 The anime itself is great I seen it many of times on Tv but Amazon product they spent me is broken as it stands . On the first disc ep 3 only plays about half way though and 4 and 5 don ; t even play . I AM ON THE FIRST DISC FOR GOD SAKES . I am wondering what other problems I will have once I am done with the collection .
I have watched 15 + animes series and 100 ' s of movies on my computer with no problems what so ever . But I will make sure it is not my computer somehow and play it on a DVD players on the downstairs TV .
By the time I am done watching the collection ( I got both 1 and 2 ) it will be monday and then I guess I need to spend it back to get another copy . But what is the point of sending the other thing back and getting a replacement in 2 - 3 weeks when I have then already seen it and it will then just collect dust in my closet with the rest of my anime series .
No point to even sending me a replacement when I have already seen it all but the the eps that would not even play . Guess I will just try to get a refund that will go well .
I am just unhappy that I spent something around 80 - 90 dollars so some broken discs and now have to return the product which could take almost month .
031 4 A very intense , Productive , and realistic Anime .
Politics , War and of course , GUNDAMs to shine the light , and ones who shed darkness .
You can't Really go Wrong with this set .
No Extras Though .
Overall , This anime is more story oriented than action .
You are NOT a fan of ANIME or quality programming unless you see
MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM WING
035 4 If you're looking to buy this series on DVD , do not buy this one . This is a great series , but this box set isn't . I purchased this set from Amazon , and could not even play it . It stops in the middle of episode 3 , and episode 4 and 5 won't even play . I thought it was only me , but after reading reviews on amazon , others had the same problem .
AVOID THIS BOX SET !
029 4 - Awesome -
great anime . . . this series is too short thou i think , only 49 eps in all .
but if ure a action anime fan then definitely BUY THIS !
