Sharp R-820JS 0.9-Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave, Silver

  • 005 4  I really like this product . It has a lot of functionality . I bought it primarly for the microwave capability ; but , thought the other features would come in handy . I find myself using the other features almost as much as the microwave . One of things that I like best about this oven is that I can make open face tuna melts using the grill function . That is what I missed most about my old toaster oven . This oven had saved me the cost of a toaster oven .
    • 031 4  I love this Sharp convection / microwave oven . Since I purchased it I have not used my oven or outside grill . I have used it for roasting , baking , grilling , etc . and everything comes out perfect .
    • 047 4  Bought this for the convection feature . This microwave replaced an older Sharp microwave and this ones seems more powerful . The convections feature is what drove me to buy it . It works well but one should clean it regularly . One negative is that the display is difficult to read unless you are at eye level . I like the color and it's not stainless steel color like as it's not too shiny or light . A darker silver .
    • 069 4  This is my third convection / microwave oven . The first was a large wonderful Sharp I had for many years . The second was a great GE , no longer made . This one is also great but just a bit small . On the other hand , it has a lot of features that make it possible to cook everything but boiled eggs . I don't use the oven and I like this one . The price was great too .
    • 079 4  This microwave is wonderful and Amazon supplied us with very fast and sufficient service . I couldn't ask for better service .
    • 092 4  I bought this microwave 5 months ago . I use it for everything ! Baking , roasting , grilling and just to heat things up . Now that it is just the 2 of us at home I don't have to use my oven anymore . I cooked a pork roast the other day using the roast option . It came out perfect ! This microwave does everything . At this time I have absolutely no complaints .
    • 095 4  I got this because I wanted a convection oven / microwave and I had a sharp before and it worked great . This is a piece of crap . I have not had popcorn in a year it either burns it or doesn't cook it . I cooked a chicken on convection mode . It was the worst piece of chicken I have ever had . It was like rubber , my cat wouldn't even eat it .

  • 018 4  I read the reviews on this microwave when I wanted more of an all-in-one machine for our smaller home . Read the reviews like I did . Fantastic versatility in this machine ! I am still amazed at how nicely it roasts meats , like 5 cornish game hens at a time . . . perfectly done and FAST ! If you work , need a convection oven , microwave , regular baking oven , delayed start , Roaster , Pizza Oven , Defroster , TOASTER oven , and probably a few other types I forgot to mention . . . . GET THIS . . . I have no problems with smoke , clean up is very easy on this due to the coated turntable . Sturdy too . Remember to read all the directions and the inserts . . . the person that wrote it didn't do a good job of putting the information in one place . You can actually just open the door to the oven and press the ' auto button ' and not even read the directions . . . the basic information is on the inside of the door for reference . It was very satisfying to get rid of the dangerous toaster oven that is a fire hazard . The only thing we kept was a regular toaster . . . . It takes a bit too long for toast in the morning . Other than that , it is fantastic !
    • 026 4  The convection oven takes 20 minutes to heat up , and the turntable is wobbly . Otherwise okay .
    • 091 4  Sharp has a terrible web site . The window for registering the product comes up blank . Filled out a form to let Sharp know and the submit button doesn't work . Called their 800 number and the person didn't know what to do and after being on hold the second time I just hung up .

  • 021 4  Everything I've tried in this oven has turned out better than expected and it is easier to operate than I expected as well . The instructions are clear and well presented . I virtually never read the manual first , but felt I should with this product as I was completely unfamiliar with the convection cooking process . I found the manual well organized and straightforward . Perhaps it's been updated to this clear format recently since some other reviewers were not as impressed with theirs . My copy actually says that when microwaving popcorn , it is best to set the bag on an inverted pie plate on the carousel to elevate it a bit . Apparently , the microwave beams are focused somewhat higher than in a microwave-only oven . This is fine with me since I keep a Pyrex pie plate in the oven anyway to catch drippings from grilling operations . This makes cleanup a breeze . I didn't expect there to be onscreen instructions for most operations , but I'm very pleased with them and haven't had to refer back to the manual at all . I've found the screen display easier to read than indicated in other reviews ( it helped to remove the protective film in place for shipping , and not to stand really close to the unit but a few inches away ) . In addition to microwaving operations which are a no-brainer , I've used the automated functions for grilling and roasting to assess the result and see what timing the oven used . Twenty minutes seemed a long time for hamburgers , but they were perfectly done . Two large chicken breasts cooked beautifully , as well . The salmon steak was also grilled to perfection . Although the weights of these items didn't exactly match the choices given , the results couldn't have been better . For example , the salmon steak was ¾ lb and I chose ½ lb rather than 1 lb , deciding to err on the side of less cooked , knowing I could use the ` minute plus ' button to extend time if I wanted to . I like my salmon medium so I was very pleased with the result without adding any time . I've worried forever about the hot air convection process drying things out , which has kept me from trying this technology sooner , but I couldn't have been more wrong . The cooked food is much juicier than when cooked in a standard oven , and not greasy like when sautéed on the stovetop . I purchased the Sharp oven to gain counter space by replacing both an ancient toaster oven and a too-small microwave ( but not my toaster ) , and also to avoid using my regular oven for small portions . I'll probably end up using the Sharp a lot more than I'd planned since the results thus far are outstanding . I like that the unit vents at the back rather than either side so I can put it up close to the wall ( they say to leave 2 clearance ) on the side where it is most convenient for me to open the door . The motor extension in the back keeps it far enough from the back wall for air circulation and still leaves about 5 - 6 of counter in front of the unit . The outside of the oven gets warm during grilling , but not hot . The inside gets hot , of course , so potholders are needed to remove cooked contents . I'm glad I converted to this technology and the Sharp oven was a great choice . I based my buying decision on other reviews and appreciate the input as it helped me know what to look for and helped make my convection education easy and rewarding . I definitely recommend this oven .
    • 002 4  I acquired this microwave when I was moving to a flat with limited kitchen space , and my primary reason for the choice was that the Sharp model was multi-functional . Since I've begun using it , I happily have ceased to sing a requiem for the toaster oven , separate grill , and other items I was ' consolidating ' in this purchase . I have used the Sharp microwave for grilling and roasting , as well as normal microwave functions , and the results are better than I could have expected . Grilled and roasted foods are extremely tender and juicy - at least of the quality one could expect from a conventional oven . I have had similar success with cooking vegetables . Reheating muffins and breads has amazing results - they seem fresh baked and , unlike breads normally heated in a microwave , do not harden in a minute . I have used the convection feature for preparing breads , and had especially stunning results with preparing a frozen chicken pie . I suppose the surrounding air from the convection oven was the reason , but it seemed like a fresh-baked meat pie . There are a few drawbacks , which would not compromise my five star rating because of the great versatility and high quality of the unit overall . The ' auto ' roast , defrost , and grill features are very convenient , as is the prompting ( telling one when to turn over the meat , for example ) , but they are very limited in the weight restrictions . For example , if one is defrosting ground meat , it has to be a certain weight - significantly more than that of a single hamburger . Though grills and roasts would mostly fit in to the specifications , this is a drawback for defrosting , where one must estimate times and key them in manually . Another difficulty I have experienced , when grilling on the rack , is that drippings which fall either on to the carousel tray or a pan placed under the meat can become badly burnt and baked on . This was slightly disappointing for my intentions of preparing gravies on the side . My single attempt to do so meant I had to soak the pan overnight and then scrape . The grilling results are wonderful , as far as the effect on the meats , but there is a great deal of smoke generated . Whenever I grill , it sets off the smoke alarm - probably best to roast , then only grill at the end . I would advise anyone purchasing this microwave to read the manual in full . The capabilities will not be realised otherwise . I actually use the unit less for ' standard microwaving ' than for its other features . One further comment : the Sharp microwave cookbook , which is advertised in the manual for the unit , is useful but not specific to the multi-functional machine . It contains only microwave recipes - none for grilling , roasting , or convection . Overall , and considering that it can replace several appliances , this microwave is an extraordinary value .
    • 004 4  First let me say that I got a killer deal right here on Amazon . I paid $204 with shipping included . The unit arrived in tact although the box was a little beat up . So much so that I had to unpack it outside . Now onto the review . The unit is very heavy and well constructed . The majority of the weight comes from what appears to be a commercial grade convection motor . I lugged the unit inside and put it on a utility cart with the back facing a window . I unpacked the contents , which were securely stowed inside the unit . Contents included a porcelain coated turntable , rotary mechanism for the turntable and a circular raised rack for grilling . I plugged it in and it immediately displayed instructions on how to set the clock . That was cake so now it was time to cook something ! Despite what others may say , you do have to read the manual to do just about anything ( except setting the clock ) because the unit uses special codes for different foods , i.e 1 for pork , 2 for chicken , 3 for humans and so on . The manual is relatively easy to follow and the unit also comes with a quick reference card so you don't have to whip out the manual everytime you want to cook something . So far , I have cooked a stuffed pork chop , cinnamon rolls , chocolate chip cookies and a 10 inch frozen pizza . All came out near perfect to perfect . I would attribute this to the quality of the convection motor . I might even go as far as comparing the quality and effectiveness of this motor to that of a Hobart . If you're looking for a high quality and extrememly versatile convection / microwave / so much more , then you can stop looking . I would have paid a lot more if I knew it was going to be this good . Bon Appetit !
    • 006 4  When my old ( 22 years ) microwave died , I could've replaced it with another , especially since they'd gone ' way down in price / watt . But I'd used a convection oven ( which went with my ex-wife ) , and I really wanted my own . I found the Sharp Grill - 2 Convection , among others , but decided to purchase it mainly because of Sharp's overall good reputation . It offered a powerful microwave , a convection oven ( cooking with super-heated air ) , and a grill to brown the outside of whatever I was cooking . I should've bought a lottery ticket that day ! It has turned out to be the most useful , if not most often used , tool in my kitchen ( and I have just about all of them ! ) . I wanted to write a glowing review the first week I had it , but knowning how first impressions can be misleading , I've waited until now , about a year later . The other reviews I've read here are accurate about the its uses and functions , so I won't bore you further . What I will say is that from warming a cooled cup of coffee to roasting a whole chicken to baking my famous cheescake , it's the best ! Hands down , simply the best ! A little pricey ? Duh ! Look at what you're getting : you can virtually cook ANYthing with this oven . And I have ! It looks great on my kitchen counter , it's instructions are comprehensive and easy to understand , it cleans up ( from roasted chicken , for example ) in about 5 minutes . It's quality , and IT WORKS ! Oh , by the way , it uses a lot less energy than any conventional oven , electric or gas .
    • 007 4  Can you believe a microwave that will brown chicken ? I've cooked things in this that makes me seem like a gourmet chef , but I'm not even quite an average cook . Chicken breast that practically melt in your mouth , but the outside has a tantalizing crispiness that's sure to please the taste buds . Most recent to this review , I cooked several rounds of New York strip steak . A nice steak rub , a bit of non-stick spray for the rack and turntable tray ( makes for an easy cleanup ) , and a steak-lover's dream was created . I do the typical hot-dog heating in the microwave . . . but you can't really place them directly on the metal tray if you want them to heat quickly . They are slightly below where the microwaves really concentrate and take a few seconds longer to heat . I place a microwave-safe plate on the turntable upside down to elevate it slightly and it works much better . This also works for microwave popcorn . I had trouble getting it to pop in the 3 minutes allocated to the popcorn button ( large bag ) , it took more like 5 . Put it on the upside down plate , it pops in 2 minutes and 45 seconds ( yes , I've done enough of them to remember : - ) Buy this one , I doubt if you'll be sorry . I got it originally because I was a full-timer in an RV and was looking to replace a failed microwave oven . After owning this for about a month , I got rid of my toaster oven , my rotisserie , my jetstream oven , and I can't remember what else . It doesn't do toast that fast , so I kept my toaster . It is rather heavy and deep for a microwave , but it takes a lot less space than all of the other appliances it replaces .
    • 008 4  I love this machine . I am not a cook perse , just a single dad trying to do everything myself . My microwave was my life saver until one day when the lights went out and fried it . Searching for a replacement , I liked the many options for no brains cooking and decided that if I was going to replace my microwave , why not try something better than average . I am really glad that I did . This thing seems to do a perfect job on just about everything that I put in it . The kids and I have made apple pies , pizza , bannana bread and just about everything that I throw at it comes out perfect . There was one thing that I didn't like . . . I couldn't get popcorn to come out right with this unit . That was UNTIL I realized that I needed to put in the wire rack to center the popcorn . How many bags I have ruined before realizing that I needed the rack . Since then I haven't burnt one which is a great releif to my kids on movie night . I rarely write product reviews , but since I have pretty much stopped using the normal oven in exchange for this unit , I thought it was worth mentioning . I don't know if it takes less energy , but it does cut down cooking time dramatically so I can spend more time with the kids .
    • 009 4  Love this product ! ! Got it after a powersurge in our area blew out my kitchen , I was left with a only a gas stovetop . While I was waiting for the insurance and new appliances , I got this hoping for a microwave and maybe some convection . This oven was a super surprise not only is it a great microwave it actually grills , bakes , roasts , and reheats like a dream , and faster than my conventional oven . When you put a roast in this oven ( yes I said a roast and I mean of beef , pork or a chicken even have done a turkey breast ) you put it directly on the great Metal rack that comes with the oven . The roasted piece of meat comes out crisp on the outside juicy inside and soooo quick . You can even microwave stuff sitting on the metal rack , crazy but it works perfectly , no sparks or anything ! ! Cleaning this is a breeze too ! ! The turntable come right out as well as the pedestal it sits on . Both are metal and can go in the dishwasher if you want , After you take those out there is nothing in the oven but a lower range element like in a electric oven and that flips up and out of the way so you can wipe right under it . The entire inside is shiny metal which cleans up with a sponge no scrubbing just wipe away and its clean . I was so surprised by how great this works and would buy it over and over .
    • 010 4  My wife and I are very pleased with this purchase . The price at amazon was the best we found at the time . It arrived very quickly . This little oven has so many features and once you learn them food prep is a snap . We used this product to replace a micowave gone bad . Once it arrive though , we were able also to donate our toaster oven and save space . One item we wished was better was the noise level . We understand the oven needs to cool itself and accept the trade off of having a multifunctional device . The fan probably runs so long for safety . But it can be a bit noisey for a while after your through cooking with the device . One note to potential buyers , reconize its wattage . We went from a higher wattage microwave and had to readjust our cooking time a little to make up for the lower power level . The trade off is well worth have a microwave that microwaves , grills , toast , acts as a convection oven , defrost very nicely , and can do a combination of these .
    • 013 4  I bought this microwave to replace my toaster oven and beat up old microwave . It does everthing i want it to do ( grill / toast / bake / nuke ) . I would give it 5 stars if the tray had a non-stick lining . It has a groove that catches grease and food . And as we know grilling leaves charred food reamins that are a pain to get out . I wanted to put aluminum foil over the tray but the manual advised not to do so as it will cause sparks . I wonder is teflon is microwave safe . Overall it is good product for features and value .
    • 015 4  After working with one of the early microwaves for years , I was delighted when it finally died . There had been much discussion at our house about our next microwave and we had already decided to go with a microwave / convection combination . The Sharp has a good reputation with us so I looked long and hard on line before I selected the .9 Sharp . We were not disappointed - it is very roomy inside - a large dinner plate fits inside easily . It is very good looking and easy to keep clean inside and out ( I chose the stainless ) . I was amazed to be able to cook on a metal rack and cooked a large stuffed pork chop to well-browned perfection in 17 minutes . I word of advice , read the instructions and keep the sheet with the auto instructions near the oven until you get used to it . It won't let you make mistakes though . And as to the popcorn controversy - - put the popcorn on top of an inverted pyrex pie pan on top of the carosel . No burning !
    • 016 4  I have to admit that I love this appliance . I'm cooking things I ordinarily wouldn't , because I'd have to heat up the oven . Not having a large family to feed , I don't make huge meals . It's perfect for a couple of steaks , baked potato , pizza , you name it . I'm particularly pleased with the speed of the cooking element and the timing accuracy of the preprogrammed controls . Did I say that I love this machine ? I recently had a friend and her children come over and I popped out individual pizza's ( 2 at a time ) for everyone at about 12 minutes each . Everyone was thrilled ! The kids enjoyed watching . The microwave portion is not as powerful as my other microwave , but now , I only use the other for fast popcorn , or warming coffee . Just be careful that you change your cooking utilsels to suit whatever heating method you are using . The grill can't be in with the microwave on and the microwave dishes may melt under the heating element . I highly recommend this appliance and when I start my restaurant , am planning to get more .
    • 017 4  I got this unit to replace an ancient Farberware convection oven that finally fell apart after 20 some years . I liked the idea of it using both microwaves with heat and convection though that only works with Roasting ; Grilling is Convection only . We mostly use it in Auto Grill and Auto Roast . Some observations after using it for a few months : . The Auto Grill mode only works on relatively small weights - - if you have a really big steak or two , it might not take it . No worries , just use Roast - - it works just as well . You'll want to note the weight of the meat and enter it into the oven menu as that has a lot to do with how done it gets . If you trim off all the excess fat ( we usually do ) , then you may want to get a small digital postal scale to weigh the meet precisely ; they aren't that expensive any more . We like the results on medium , so we haven't needed to play with adding or shortening the cook time . . The note about the meat juices burning on the bottom of the pan is true , but we found a workaround - - we happened to have a 10 inch round silicone cake pan ( Amazon has them , just do that name as a search ) and put it under the grill , on top of the pan . It works wonders . We put in just enough water to cover the bottom . When the meat is done , the juices in the cake pan are just nicely cooked , not burned , and can be spatula'ed out into a sauce pan . Fire that up with a bit of flour and spices temper / blended in , and you can reduce it into gravy in just the time that the meat should rest . Having the water in the oven keeps the meat from drying out as well . And trimming the meat first means there isn't excess grease to deal with ; just enough for good gravy . This also prevents having to clean a burned pan , mostly things just wipe up and wash right off . . It isn't as fast as the grill in the electric ( or gas ) range , but it is way more predictable , and doesn't generate a lot of smoke , or carbonize the edges of things like the grill can . One doesn't get the smoky flavor of a charcoal or gas grill , but I don't miss that much , especially since I don't have to watch over it the whole time , and again the cooking is more even . Grilling steaks in this unit only requires you flip the meat once in 20 - 30 minutes of cooking time ; it beeps to let you know when . This is about the right amount of time to fix the rest of the meal . . There isn't a preset Auto entry for pork chops , but the beef steak setting works well enough most of the time . Once in awhile we'll test the internal temperature or give it a couple extra minutes to be sure . Again getting the weight right helps . If you underestimate it , then the chances of undercooking are increased . Still this is way better than the typical tough overcooked chops we generally made other ways . All in all , we're delighted with the unit . Once we figured out a couple of these tricks , it does just what we want .
    • 028 4  The Sharp R - 820JS is a great unti over all . It does what the marketing words say it does and it does most of it very well . The controls are easy to learn and make sense once you've read the book . Overall quality is very good with an easy to clean stainless steel interior . As with any appliance , you'll have the adjust the times a bit to suite your cooking preferences . Being a rather serious cook , I found the unit a great helper to preparing meals , reasonable at roasting / baking and very good at reheating ( not overheating the food and destroying it's texture ) . Steaks grill reasonably well ( it's not a grill ) and roasted meats do cook faster and brown using the microwave / convection combination . Even the pizza setting works well giving you a real crust . The only downsides are that it's very deep ( almost the whole counter ) , a bit noisy ( fan is on all the time ) and not too stylish . The exterior is NOT stainless . However , it's almost as good as our friends ' Thermador and Dacor units at less than a third of the price !
    • 029 4  I live in an empty nest , but have always cooked for myself . Twice a day I would use my conventional oven to prepare my meals . I had a microwave too , but used it primarily for popcorn ! A few month ago I replaced my microwave with a Sharp R - 820JS , and now do all of my cooking that does not require a pot in it . It is marvelous . Each and every time the food comes out perfectly cooked . Clean-up is a snap for both the interior of the unit and the porcelin carousel and the grill rack . It seems to me that a family of four could probably have a majority of their meals cooked in this oven rather then using a hot conventional oven . This unit even has settings for certain baking although I have not tried them . Since purchasing and using this unit , I eliminated getting burned by the hot oven . I used to call them war scars . Now it is a pleasure to cook .
    • 032 4  The Sharp R - 820JS is a nice package : microwave , convection , space saving size , and professional looking case ( silver ) . The unit seems to have plenty of power , and is easy-to-use . Futhermore , you can move the unit without breaking your back . One critism : Sharp could easily have designed a better digital readout . My digital display is virtually unreadable when viewed from above ( the unit sits on a counter that is not eye level ) . From eve level , the diisplay is adequate .
    • 036 4  We bought a Sharp Convection Microwave several years ago and one of its flimsy plastic door latches broke . We found out the warranty didn't cover it ( cosmetic item ) and it would cost almost as much as a new one to fix it . We bought a shop manual for $35.00 and a new latch which we received nine months later from Sharp for $21.00 and installed it ourselves . It worked another 3 months then the turntable mechanism self incinerated causing final death of now out of warranty oven . You'd think we would have learned , but we needed a new small microwave and the convection feature was really handy for us so we got one of these new small ones . It lasted one year and six months before a loud internal arcing sound signaled it's terminal death . We have a couple lovely Panasonic microwaves that work perfectly year after year . The positive reviews for this oven reflect a very short term satisfaction . Reviewed after owning them a while would not yeild a satisfactory experience . The Sharp convection microwaves are total junk and should not be allowed to be sold .
    • 037 4  This Sharp combo Convection Microwave is the greatest thing since sliced bread ! . . . It roasts , it bakes , it broils ( I'm surprised it doesn't slice and dice ! ) . It's a great microwave , fast and powerful and super * * easy to clean ! ! * * . . . and I am seriously thinking about acquiring a good hot plate and giving the conventional oven the ol ' heave ho ! . . . Who needs it anyway ? It takes up too much space , it's too hard to clean , and uses too much energy ! If you are only cooking for one or two , this is the way to go ! Good job Sharp !
    • 038 4  this is the best countertop item i own ! it is a combo microwave / oven / grill , and is perfect for small meals , tho it can fit a large chicken in on the rack with no problem . no need to heat up the house with the big oven in the summer , and much less wasting of electricity ( i have an electric stove and oven ) . it has great features that work well overall . the automatic settings for cooking have cooked everything to perfection , better than i can by doing it manually . i don't know how it does it ! the only time i have to override and go manual is for baked potatoes ( which , to be honest , really are not perfect in a microwave , they always get a bit hard on the bottoms ) . i found a way around that tho ; microwave for 3 / 4 of the time , then bake for the last bit . they come out like a full-on baked potato , but only take around 15 - 20 minutes . i use the manual setting for the grill and convection oven a lot as well , for additional control over the cooking . but for someone who wants an all-purpose combo oven , i cannot praise this highly enough . i have had mine for 5 years , and it is still cooking perfectly . i just passed it to my daughter , who is thrilled to have it ! i am buying a new one this week ! yay for me ! ps : to the reviewer who complained about the drippings from meat burning on the pan , all you have to do is add water to the bottom of the pan , and check halfway thru the cooking to see if more water is needed . when you get the amount right after experimenting , the water will have cooked off for the most part and just the meat juices will be left . you have o do that in any oven when cooking meat on a rack .
    • 040 4  This is a very good product . The microwave has plenty of power , and many shortcuts in programming . I like the convection oven for small roasts . If you are looking for a microwave / convection oven I recommend this one !
    • 049 4  We rent and when I broke the GE Profile microwave and convection oven we decided to replace it ourselves instead of bothering the landlord because it was my fault . Looked everywhere for the correct dimentions because it's kind of a built in . Everything was very , very expensive with the micro / convec combo and then we came across the Sharp . How could something $400 cheaper be as good as the original ? ( 2004 ) Well , it is and more so . It grills . It toasts perfectly . The convection oven is quicker to heat up and does a better job than the GE . The only thing I didn't like was the corn muffins . . . they looked more like popovers . The microwave is quicker but it's less powerful by 10 watts . Figure that one out ? It's very easy to use , comes with a cheat sheet page that is so convenient . . . no thumbing through the book looking for how to use the grill for instance . I usually can't do a thing and have to call my husband for help . Not with this one . It has less room height wise but that hasn't been an issue at all . So I guess I've been proven wrong . . . . cheaper is not necessarily cheap . If you're looking for even a microwave . . . . try this product . . . . . I guarantee you'll use it more than you think .
    • 050 4  Well , I admit that I do need to sit down with the manual which I have not done since my preliminary look through gives me the impression of unnecessary complication . However , I can't understand why I have to enter some number that tells the machine what I am going to be cooking ( with very few choices available ) in order to use the convection feature . Sure I can look up a number in the manual and plug it in , but what am I supposed to do when what I am going to cook is NOT a casserole or a baked potato or one of the very few other choices they provide ? ? ? ? Currently I just pick one of the choices and use it whether or not it is what I am really trying to cook . I would vastly prefer simply to be able to put in the temp . I want to cook an item at and the time I want to cook it for . That would certainly seem to make sense , but apparently you can't do that . Whatever I plug in for a food choice , it does seem to work okay except that preheat takes forever . The other thing is that I sure wish I had purchased the larger model . This one has too small an interior for many things I might like to fix . I would rather have paid more and have more interior space . Unless you have space limitations , get the larger model . A major reason I did not choose the larger model is that it looked too complicated ! How ironic is that . Other than being too small , the machine works okay except for the weird and unnecessary complications regarding how to use the convection feature . It's very annoying to me . Why can't I just plug in the time and temperature I want to bake at , and put the food in , and cook it ?
    • 052 4  This microwave worked very well until the 13th Month . ( one month after warranty for parts and labor ) The microwave quit working . All the other features work fine but the microwave quit heating . I was told by Sharp that I need to call a local repair shop , which I did . Sharp will replace the magnatron but will not cover the labor which is just about the cost of a standard microwave . Too bad for me . Anyways it's decision time to see if we want all the features this has and spend about 100.00 or buy new . I must say that I have never had a microwave oven quit after only 1 year , even a cheap one . Not sure if I just got a bad unit or just not a good durable unit to begin with .
    • 054 4  Bought this in Feb 2006 after doing a lot of research . There was a deal going then and I got it for just 206 . The unit is pretty compact and looks nice . I have a small kitchen so counter space is at a premium , and I like that the oven is versatile . For the convection part , I like the pizza settings and use them for just about everything . The drawback is that the oven is hot after using as a convection , so you can't just pop something in to nuke it like you can with separate appliances . The microwave works fine , but the popcorn setting is useless . Better to put 5 - min on the timer and just stand there waiting to cut it off when popping slows down . The carousel has always worked perfectly , and was so pretty when new . . . but keep in mind that it will get dirty quickly and is hard to clean . Replacement parts are very pricey , so I've just lived with the ugly thing inside . This week , there was a burning smell when heating up some leftover pizza using the convection . I thought there may be some food or something under the carousel , but that was not it . Later I started heating some water in a Pyrex measuring cup , and it arced inside ! And there was a horrible strange burning smell , like a chemical or something , I aired out the room for fear of something being toxic ! Of course I have unplugged it , and am now without a microwave . So why did I give it 3 stars ? I liked the unit , it was easy to use , and we used it daily ( many times every day ! ) both as a convection oven and a microwave for nearly 4 years . For a little over [ . . . ] bucks , this oven gave us a lot of use . I'd have liked it to go another few years without needing a replacement , and I am also concerned about the safety hazard as I have no idea what caused this problem . And , I have found other reviews which say this happened within a year ! Which is why I am looking at other brands for my replacement .
    • 059 4  I am quite impressed with this oven . After catching my last microwave on fire ( my fault ) , I decided to purchase something with convection capabilities . I cooked for a living and taught culinary classes and really missed what a convection can do . Though this is not a commercial quality convection oven , it is awesome for the home . I use it more now that I do my gas oven ! It browns beautifully and the one-ouch features seem to know exactly how to cook that frozen pizza . Check it out . You won't regret it !
    • 062 4  I had some hesitations regarding the looks of this product as it wasn't stainless steel ( on the outside ) but gray . I wanted it to match my stainless appliances and not stand out like a sore thumb . It looks great ! I've not had any problems in the 7 weeks we've owned it ( admittedly , that's not much time ) . The stainless steel interior is easy to clean and the multi-functionality of this appliance puts it steps above the average microwave / convection oven . It is easy to use with clear instructions . I keep the manual in the drawer below this countertop and reach for it when I want to try something new . I recommend the product .
    • 064 4  This machine is nearly 1.5 to 2 minutes faster in cooking things than was our old , not so old , microwave ( we have it in the staff kitchen of our nonprofit social services agency ) . The user's guide is not well written and can be very confusing at times , but employing common sense helps to overcome the poor skills of the manual writer . By remembering that it's easy to use , you can then make sense of the step by step ladder to confusion . Nevertheless , the capabilities of this machine are appreciated by us all .
    • 068 4  The oven is very nice , works perfectly and has great features . However consider that it's pretty big ( in the back it's still 15cm more ) . Also a not so nice feature is that after any non-pure microwave cooking the fan last some more minutes to remove the heat , this is right however it takes quite long and the fan is pretty loud . However a great all in 1 oven , with stainless steel inside . I'd recommend it !
    • 070 4  This oven does everything . It's fast and strong . I have cooked a whole meal at one time ( and not a frozen one ) . I'm so glad my old Sharp died so I could get this one .
    • 073 4  Not much to say here . This is a very versatile oven . I like it because I am single and don't use my oven a lot . It doubles as a toaster , roaster and microwave . The grill elements heat up very quickly so making grilled cheese in 5 minutes . Water boils ( uncovered ) in 2.5 minutes , uncovered it should boil faster . It's great .
    • 075 4  I have owned many microwave / convection ovens over the years . I find the Sharp micro / convection ovens to be the best . They are the easyest to operate . After owning five sharp microwave / convection ovens which I have used constantly every day for years , I would not consider buying any other brand .
    • 078 4  This is a great little machine ! It does everything it says it will do . It bakes beautiful biscuits , which helps me conserve gas from my range and eliminates the heat in my kitchen . Size is just right for my husband and I , not too large and not too small . Love the metal turntable . It grills and microwaves . What more would you want ?
    • 080 4  We've been using this microwave a lot since we bought it , both with its regular microwave function and its convection oven functionality , and we haven't been disappointed . General functionality : The volume of the unit is good enough for most things you'd expect to be putting in a microwave . . . we've cooked small pizzas and batches of cookies in here already . Granted , you can fit less in here than you would be able to on the average cookie sheet , but that's to be expected I think . As other reviewers have noted , the LCD screen is hard to read unless you're at a really good angle , but unless you have this as your primary kitchen time piece , it's only a minor inconvenience . Microwave functionality : Things are exactly what you'd expect here . It's a microwave , it works , and the power level is about what I've come to expect from a ~ 1kw microwave . Convection oven functionality : For smaller items that you don't want to stick into an oven ( or for many other things , like reheating food ) , the convection oven is really handy , and . . . frankly , fun . You can put in a metal grill that the food sits on , you punch in whether you want the oven to preheat before starting the timer countdown or not , put your food in ( now or after preheating ) , and off you go . Now , don't get me wrong , but . . . this is possibly the least polished feature of this microwave , in two respects . First . . . an oven takes , what , 15 or 20 minutes to preheat , for a large amount of space . And on average , this thing takes 7 - 10 minutes to preheat . . . what ? This microwave is like 1 cubic foot ! ( whereas ovens are 3.5 - 5.5 cubic feet ) . Secondly , I'm not convinced yet that there's actually a thermometer inside the unit for determining whether it's preheated yet ( rather , just a timer ? ) . That is to say , if you say preheat first , it always takes a predetermined length of time to warm up , regardless of whether you just cooked something in there or not . Regardless , overall this has been a very positive experience for a microwave / convection oven , and would definitely buy again .
    • 081 4  I live alone and I bought this when my cheap little microwave died and I thought I might save some money on baking small meals with a small convection oven . I didn't fully utilize it for a couple years ( I did bake chicken every week and loved it ) . I've only discovered the programed Grill option ( and am exploring the other options ) in the past few months and am totally amazed ! I now grill steaks , burgers and this morning i grilled a small chunk of Norwegian salmon on a soaked cedar plank that was being promoted at my favorite supermarket last week where I bought the salmon on sale . Wow ! Delicious ! I made it for myself for brunch since I had just come off of a tiring work week and I needed a treat . It took about 11 minutes . I topped it with a little homemade dill sauce , the ingredients I always have on hand ( dried dill , yogurt and lemon juice ) and it was the most moist , succulent salmon I've had in a long long time , even in restaurants . I topped it off with a cup of expensive coffee and I felt like a queen . Nice breakfast for a single working girl . I also never used the programed Comp Defrost feature until recently . It was the first time I had a prayer of defrosting meat in the microwave that didn't half cook and tasted like rubber . I do check it often enough and make sure the meat is pulled apart as the little LED window suggests , so it defrosts evenly . I can't sing enough praises for this little gem of an appliance . I do think the microwave feature is a tiny bit slower than a regular microwave , but for me it's not very noticeable . The only inconvenience I've had with this appliance at all is some of the programmed options ( grill , bake , defrost , etc . ) don't compute if your serving is too small or insufficient weight . I merely pump up the quantity or weight and take it out sooner . Works all the time . This house I now live in has a microwave above the stove and I use it to store my bills and other random paperwork ! Oh , forgot to mention , I just baked my first batch of cookies last week . Holy cow . . . no burnt edges or unevenly baked ones ! I made a regular batch of peanut butter cookies and only made enough cookies ( 1 - 1 / 2 dozen ) that would fit right on the rotating plate that's in the unit - no cookie sheet . The rest of the dough went into the fridge for another day . Experimenting with the timing for cookies is my next challenge because , since the edges don't get real brown like in a conventional oven , the overbaked cookies can become extra crunchy ( not burnt ) instead of moist . This is by far my most utilized appliance and I'll never go without it . I hardly use my stove anymore . I just had to share this after my incredible meal this morning !
    • 093 4  I ordered this microwave two days before Thanksgiving Day , and to my astonishment it arrived the very next day ! I just love it . So far I have cooked frozen veggies , reheated lasagne , baked bread with the convection setting , ( came out really great ) , and heated and reheated all sorts of things . Just a nice product at a great price . Thanks Amazon for coming to the rescue for my holiday dinner !
    • 094 4  I've had this product for just a few days and so far the convection features work well . However , the microwave is sub-par . For example , it takes twice as long to pop microwave popcorn as my old $30 Emerson microwave . The result is that the popcorn burns more than it pops . In general , the microwave seems underpowered . This is a pity because the * combined * microwave / convection functionality is precisely why someone would buy this product , and why I give it only a 2 - star rating . The poor microwave performance raises questions about Sharp's quality control standards , in general . Finally , it's also difficult to discern which auto-settings utilize microwave vs . convection heating , and thus difficult to know what materials ( e.g . , foil vs . paper ) are safe as a cover for the dish being prepared .
    • 098 4  The order arrived quick enough from Amazon . This was for a new microwave , but the box had been opened before and improperly taped up . When it arrived the packing foam had broken down from the shifting of the microwave in the box , but everything was with all the parts . Two weeks later the microwave stopped working , the platform would rotate and the lite would stay on , but they could not be stopped and food could not be cooked . If the microwave was unplugged and plugged back in , it did the same thing . Getting to sharp technical support was quick and easy with a 1 - 800 number . There is no one to repair sharp microwaves in the new orleans area , we would have to drive the microwave 2 hours away , or find a box , pack it ship it at our expense . After talking with friends , we found that there was a authorized repair center in the area that sharp was not telling people about . We called Sharp again and got them to allow us to have this repair center come out and fix the microwave . Sharp would fax them the paperwork , and the company would come out Saturday to repair it . The company did not come out Saturday as promised , Monday we were told that they had not received the paper work from Sharp . We called Sharp back and had them fax us the paper work , we faxed it to the repair facility and they schedule a person to come out the following thursday . No one showed up Thursday , but we were finally able to get them to come out and fix a loose wire .
    • 099 4  I ordered the silver one Wed . and recieved it Fri . There is a lot to read , you can't idiot your way through , but it does a lot so I don't mind . Besides , it is really pretty and much more compact than I thought it would be . I am a petite gal who never works out and I was able to lift it . I would have liked more pictures in the instruction manual . I used my rack wrong the first time .
    • 100 4  Sharp makes a pretty good little convection-microwave oven . The first developed a small electrical problem . After one repair , $75 , we replaced it with this from the amazon.com site . Competitively priced , speedily delivered , exactly as ordered .
    • 102 4  Seems like Amazon didnt like my initial review ( nothing offensive ) , and they deleted it after 2 days keeping intact all the other positive reviews . Not even an email indicating why it was removed . Guess they are changing their practices after all . And there is no way to retrieve it either . Im not going to waste my time as last time , but a quick summary : Pros : Looks good , thats it Cons : too much depth , too slow , lousy toaster ( main reason for purchasing it . . for a small home ) . . . too many buttons to press for a simple operation , and if u make a mistake , start all over again , lousy lcd display , cannot view from top or side . Now lets see if they remove this review !
    • 103 4  The microwave itself worked great for almost a year , but when I called Sharp warranty service to get it replaced after it caught on fire and started billowing smoke , they told me I had to either bring it to an authorized service repair center 5 miles away ( I live in Manhattan and use public transportation , so this is not just slightly inconvenient , it's inconceivable ) . Find a microwave that isn't a safety hazard .

  • 023 4  While the item offers plenty of bells and whistles and the option of convection cooking , it does only a fair job of the microwaving . Often it seems that the device does not sufficiently heat an item despite following the recommended time on the package . After experience with other microwaves it became clear that the microwave does a poor job of heating items that are low on the carousel .
    • 027 4  Overall this unit works well . The mechanism that support and rotate the carousel while it is cooking could be design better to improvement balancing the carousel when food is placed on it .
    • 033 4  Great all around microwave for singles . The only thing it does not do well is microwave popcorn .

  • 046 4  Had this microwave for 2 years . The grill feature gives VERY uneven results - stick to your bbQ grill . It takes a long time to heat anything up and as I found out this week - it cannot pop a bag of popcorn - even a small bag . Each snack size popcorn bag took 5 minutes and then less than half the kernels popped . Will be replacing this with anything but a Sharp .
    • 057 4  Worked first time , every time . Easy to use , program . Rock solid , no complaints !

  • 074 4  Great product . It looks good and does everything everyone says . Haven't baked in it but I have grilled and nuked . Works well .
    • 083 4  I have purchased this over for over 4 years . Works amazingly especially for all the days when you don't want to turn on that big oven just to toast / bake / grill some food . Best machine invented ! I've researched for a long time for a product like this . All my three teenagers have no problems baking a frozen pizza . Makes life easier ! Highly recommended . Only negative : Doesn't make good popcorn . Other than that , great investment . You will use it everyday for anything . . .

  • 105 4  I had to rate this item with one star because I was unable to use the product . There is no way I can express the functionality of the Sharp R - 820JS microwave / convection oven , because I could not install it . If I had been told that it could not be installed over a heat source , I would not have purchased it . No where in the description of the oven was this noted . In all of the 35 reviews , no one said anything about not installing it over a range . I found out that it could not be installed over a heat source when I read the manual . That was too late ! I had already purchased the unit , and it was delivered . Perhaps this has happened to other people , but they have not written of their disappointment of not being able to use this product , due to the negative feature of this Sharp oven . Hopefully , this will prevent others from getting it and having to return it .
    • 041 4  I looked long and hard trying to find a convection oven with all the settings my previous ovens had and I am very happy with my purchase.I do most of my cooking with this as it saves me time and uses very little energy compared to my electric oven . I highly recommend it to anyone.I don't know why anyone would buy a convection toaster oven ! If I want to make toast , I use a toaster ! !
    • 077 4  They is a great combo oven . I have had microwave / convection ovens for many years . This is a great product and does exactly as it says it does . Looks good and easy to clean . works well in both mod's . I would definitely purchase again .

  • cooking . . . I think by today's standards 900W is a bit underpowered , but still this unit does a fine job . If you need to nuke large volumes of stuff on high in a big hurry buy the 1200W model , I guess . I do like the convection oven and the grilling options . And , if you follow the directions explicitly , this little nuke / heat box bakes the best frozen pizza of any I have tried . Pizza comes out better than it does from our new big gas oven using a fancy pizza stone , which is not needed with the Sharp . Cleanup is not as easy as it could be . There are several little corners that are hard to wipe , especially above that upper heating element . You really need to keep the instruction booklet handy - - or at least the laminated one-pager cheat sheet nearby - - to use this oven properly . There is no way anyone could remember all the detailed settings for all the different functions . But it's worth taking a moment to look them up each time because the really do work . However , I do wish they had printed a simple conversion chart for conventional oven recipes to convection oven recipes . From all the things I've baked so far , I recommend knocking the temp down about 25F and reduce cooking time by about 15 - 20% for recipes that give standard oven baking times . The display is odd . It is set to viewed straight on , so when viewed from an off-axis angle from above ( where it will be seen by most people most of the time while selecting oven settings ) it is not very clear . If you stand a few feet away from it , it looks fine . This is a combination oven . . . it nukes , it grills , it bakes , it browns , etc . If all you need is a hot water nuke machine that you run on 100% power only , don't buy this box . But if you do a lot of different kinds of cooking , and appreciate a small oven that won't dry things out before they are done , this may be the one you are looking for . Finally , Amazon didn't have a white one . . . only the slightly more expensive stainless steel look . . . so it looks a bit odd in our kitchen sitting between the white breadmaker and our good old reliable white toaster oven . Overall my criticisms are minor . The oven works as advertised and I would recommend it .
    • 045 4  We have been very pleased with the Sharp oven . It has pretty much replaced the oven in our kitchen stove and gives off less heat.It works well as a microwave oven and as a convection oven and is easy to operate as either .
    • 058 4  Love this microwave . We purchased it to replace our toaster oven and microwave . . my only complaint is that it doesn't toast very well .
    • 066 4  Works as advertised . I say so far because I am skeptical about how long new electric appliances will last . I've had several microwave oven magnatrons give up the ghost inside of five years . That wouldn't be so bad if replacement parts were reasonably priced and available , but they price them so you will buy a new oven instead . This unit supposedly has a better track record so we shall see . Space inside is a little cramped and there is a fair amount of wasted space . Someday a smart microwave manufacturer will realize that round turntables don't fit well in rectangular spaces . Re : cooking . . . I think by today's standards 900W is a bit underpowered , but still this unit does a fine job . If you need to nuke large volumes of stuff on high in a big hurry buy the 1200W model , I guess . • 087 4  This Microwave is wonderful . Love the convection part of the oven ( haven't tried the grilling part yet ) . It was great to have 2 ovens during Thanksgiving and wonderful not having to heat up the whole oven for something small . Would certainly buy this product again in the future .
    • 088 4  Seems to be a great value . Well constructed , easy to understand directions , very pleased . Only drawback is the oven inside is smaller then what I imagined . I recommend checking out sizes of ovens at local store then buying from Amazon !
    • 104 4  I have no opinion on how this cooks because I never turned it on . Opened the box and saw that 1 ) the front of the microwave was cheap-looking silver plastic , and 2 ) only the interior is actually stainless steel and so it didn't match anything in my kitchen . Sealed it up and sent it back to Amazon . If you read the description right you'll see they disclose it's only the interior that's stainless , but definitely not what I was expecting for the price .

  • Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) Everything I've tried in this oven has turned out better than expected and it is easier to operate than I expected as well .
    • 001 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) I acquired this microwave when I was moving to a flat with limited kitchen space , and my primary reason for the choice was that the Sharp model was multi-functional .
    • 003 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) First let me say that I got a killer deal right here on Amazon .
    • 014 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) After working with one of the early microwaves for years , I was delighted when it finally died .
    • 019 4  This Sharp microwave / convection oven worked well as long as it lasted . After only 1 1 / 2 years of moderate use one day a burning smell developed . I completely cleaned the inside of the oven and metal plate to make sure there was no leftover / stuck on food that might have become burned . There was only a very small amount of residue from the cleaning so we really didn't think the smell was from burned food . We kept using it because the smell seemed to have dissipated but it reappeared again about a week later stronger than before . When I went to use it the second time after the smell reappeared , I pressed the start button , heard a click and that was it . It quit working completely . The touchpad and start buttons would not respond to touch at all . I unplugged it and waited a while before plugging it back in thinking it might have a reset function . This did nothing . It has since been replaced with a GE model that we've had about 2 1 / 2 months which is getting returned to a local store tomorrow ! It still cooks but has developed an extremely loud drilling sound when in use ! Quite annoying and we are pretty sure something further will go wrong with this one too . We really did like the Sharp microwave / convection oven for the time we had it although I wished the 900 watt microwave would have been 1000 watts instead . We really liked our previous 1000 watt Sharp microwave we had for at least 10 years . Sharp has always been our appliance manfacturer of choice but we are hesitant to purchase another one now although they seem to still have the highest customer ratings . GE doesn't seem to be better that's for sure . Not sure what brand we'll choose next . I've been researching on Amazon today - it's the best when it comes to item reviews ! What happened to the Good Old Days when an appliance lasted for many years ? By the way , our Sharp R - 820JS was not purchased through Amazon.com , it was purchased locally at a discount supercenter .
    • 020 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) Everything I've tried in this oven has turned out better than expected and it is easier to operate than I expected as well .
    • 025 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) The convection oven takes 20 minutes to heat up , and the turntable is wobbly . Otherwise okay .
    • 030 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) I love this Sharp convection / microwave oven . Since I purchased it I have not used my oven or outside grill . I have used it for roasting , baking , grilling , etc . and everything comes out perfect .
    • 035 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) We bought a Sharp Convection Microwave several years ago and one of its flimsy plastic door latches broke .
    • 039 4  The Sharp R - 820JS appears to be a fantastic oven . I little bit bigger than I expected , but I am still very happy . The oven does exactly what it claims and I love the options of convection cooking or microwaving . Additionally , I am excited to discover that the oven is not externally hot when in convection mode .
    • 044 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) We have been very pleased with the Sharp oven . It has pretty much replaced the oven in our kitchen stove and gives off less heat.It works well as a microwave oven and as a convection oven and is easy to operate as either .
    • 048 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) We rent and when I broke the GE Profile microwave and convection oven we decided to replace it ourselves instead of bothering the landlord because it was my fault .
    • 051 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) This microwave worked very well until the 13th Month .
    • 053 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) Bought this in Feb 2006 after doing a lot of research .
    • 055 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) After at least 35 YEARS of use , my old Sharp mIcro / convection oven has begun to get a little tired and the Magnatron tube takes a little longer to microwave frozen dinners . The turntable is getting a little weird also but there are not too many things that last 35 years these days so I have decided to get a new R - 820JS . I have used it almost every day and it has worked perfectly up to now . I use it on a cart as my primary oven in lieu of the built-in . I think this oven is the best appliance I have ever owned.Using the combo micro / convection roasting works just great & reduces cooking time while browning just like an older style oven .
    • 061 4  Great replacement for an old higher power Sharp that chose to retire with flames . Silver colored plastic doesn't look like stainless , but price was more important to me . The convention oven is wonderful , doesn't heat the whole house like the range does . Grill is slow , but gets the job done . The instruction book needs work , rather confusing , but hang in there , it isn't as hard as it appears to be in the instructions . Would definitely recommend to a friend !
    • 063 4  This is the greatest cooking tool you could have in any Kitchen . It does require some common sense cooking skills as well as Microwave skills but when you master the Convection as well as the new Microwave technology and then combine the two together it is just AWESOME ! . . I love this Oven !
    • 065 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) Works as advertised .
    • 067 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) The oven is very nice , works perfectly and has great features .
    • 072 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) Not much to say here .
    • 076 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) They is a great combo oven . I have had microwave / convection ovens for many years . This is a great product and does exactly as it says it does . Looks good and easy to clean . works well in both mod's . I would definitely purchase again .
    • 082 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) I have purchased this over for over 4 years . You will use it everyday for anything . . .
    • 084 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) Treated myself to all new small kitchen appliances when my husband and I bought another house . Love gadgets and tech , especially in the kitchen . . . but like everyone else , expect them to work , be worth it . Had fun researching every purchase . My kitchen counter space is limited - wanted multi purpose . Never liked the taste of microwaved foods - in the past just used for warm ups etc . . . . until I bought this microwave ! It delivers . Actually does grill , roast , bake . . . I love it ! Liked it so much , bought one for my son , who lives in cold , wet climate and cooking out was always a struggle . This is one great oven . Be sure to double check pricing online , for best value .
    • 086 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) This Microwave is wonderful . Love the convection part of the oven ( haven't tried the grilling part yet ) . It was great to have 2 ovens during Thanksgiving and wonderful not having to heat up the whole oven for something small . Would certainly buy this product again in the future .
    • 090 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) Sharp has a terrible web site . The window for registering the product comes up blank . Filled out a form to let Sharp know and the submit button doesn't work . Called their 800 number and the person didn't know what to do and after being on hold the second time I just hung up .
    • 101 4  This review is from : Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) Seems like Amazon didnt like my initial review ( nothing offensive ) , and they deleted it after 2 days keeping intact all the other positive reviews .

  • Sharp R - 820JS 0.9 - Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave , Silver ( Kitchen ) I have only had my Sharp convection oven a few weeks but so it has performed in a manner that has met or exceeded my expectations . The real test though will how it will perform over the long run , but I'm hopeful as other Sharp products I have owned have been fairly reliable . A few points I can make NOW to potential buyers however . First , although it does appear a bit small on the inside it has nonetheless accomodated everything I have wanted to cook so far . Really about the only thing I can think of that it would prohibit would be a large turkey or similar item . Secondly , to address the POPCORN issue . My experience has been that if you try to cook a bag putting it flat on the carosel , IT WILL NOT COOK PROPERLY . However , if you place it on the grill rack ( which the manual suggests NOT to do with the microwave option ) it cooks it perfectly with no problem at all . I can't explain this discrepancy I can only relate my experience . Lastly , anyone looking to purchase this oven needs to take into account that , because of a rear mounted fan , the oven WILL NOT sit flat back against the wall adjacent to the rear of the counter as you would expect with a microwave . The rear of the oven will appear to sit 5 - 6 inches out from the wall because of this rear mounted fan housing . I was able to accomodate this on my counter but I was taken a little by surprise . Make sure your counter space will allow for this in a manner that is acceptable to you . In conclusion I have to say so far I am pleased with this purchase and the great price I got from Amazon .
    • 011 4  Love this product . I threw away my toaster oven and microwave . Not needed with this . It does both ! And works spectacularly ! 1 fault if any though . Popcorn takes a little longer than my old microwave . But it still makes it great in 4 1 / 2 mins . Roasting is a dream . Making cookies ! They come PERFECT every time ! Like I said . GREAT PRODUCT . GET IT !
    • 022 4  I did not think I would ever find a convection microwave that would work as well as the sharp microwave does and at such a good price ! ! I just got it today and am thrilled to own it . It puts my old microwave to shame the way it operates . My old one could not hold a candle to the Sharp and I definitely mean it is sharp all the way ! ! I just did not realize I would be able to ever afford a convection microwave until the Sharp came along . If you are looking for an above average microwave then this is the one for you , look no further . I advise everyone to buy it , I am glad I did .
    • 024 4  I got this oven last year and it has served us well overall . My biggest problem with this oven is that it has started to rust from inside . I clean the oven regularly for food splatters but the rust is developing from the steam from food . I am disappointed with the quality !

    • 060 4  My old Sharp convection / microwave finally gave out . I used it every day , especially as a regular oven . I couldn't replace it with anything less . The new version makes all the same great features much easier to understand and use . A digital readout guides you through setting up each feature and is very easy to follow . Love it !
    • 071 4  My old microwave died and I didn't want to spend a lot on a new one . The price for this oven was what I was looking for . The microwave wattage is lower than the one I had previously so it took a little getting used to but it generally does the job it's supposed to do . I was also intrigued to be getting a convection oven as well , which is something I always wanted to try . My understanding was that convection ovens were supposed to cut cooking time by about 25 percent . I have had to actually increase roasting / baking times , although the food ultimately comes out nicely cooked . I also noticed in the recipes included with the oven that the times are pretty much equivalent to conventional cooking . The grill feature works fairly well but it is recommended that you not put any foil on the carousel as it would interfere with the heating elements . Without the foil , the carousel gets messy and is a little hard to clean . I used to have , besides the microwave , a small countertop conventional oven . It's great to have two ovens in one , giving me more open counter space .
