006 4 I purchased this microwave about a year ago and have been pleased with it for the most part . It has consistent heating over the whole food and is quite powerful for the price . The size is also a welcome feature , in that my previous microwave was about 0.7 cubic feet . The stainless steel is easy to clean and adds a contemporary look to the kitchen . My favorite feature is probably the popcorn button which quite literally pops exactly the number of kernels in the bag without burning the popcorn . It is not a feature-filled microwave , but has warm , soften , reheat and defrost options . I only use the defrost beside the cook because I never took the time to determine how they work . Unfortunately the defrost is the only major flaw I can find with the microwave . It is not terribly difficult to use , but as far as I can tell you are unable to tell the microwave that you want to cook anything over 2 lbs . Aside from that it is a solid built , good powered , cheap and easy to use .
041 4 I purchased this microwave as I needed a larger more powerful model . My previous Sharp was still operating after 15 years . This one lasted only six months . I am told it needs a new magnatron which seems to be a common complaint . Seems like this product should be recalled and Sharp should up their quality control . No more Sharp for me !

My 21 year old son depends on it for his after work dinner heat ups . He thinks he can actually cook now . My GOD what life was like before microwaves and computers . My new Sharp arrived and in a short time I was zapping my frozen dinners , warming my left over coffee , and softening the butter for my Christmas cookies . 009 4 I waited three months to review this oven so I could get to know it first through daily use . It really heats everything up very well , fast and evenly . I haven't really used the special programmed things like the melt feature or different heat levels enough to say anything about them . I mostly reheat leftovers and coffee , and it does a great job with that .
I researched ovens thoroughly before choosing this one . I wanted an oven that had a lot of power , and this definitely has it , but I would have preferred a smaller size if I could have found one that just had basic buttons and not all the Popcorn and other programmed fluff settings . The oven itself has a rather cheap hollow feeling to it , like the sound and extra-light feel when closing the door , but the oven itself works well . The only problem I found has been intermittent , and this is that sometimes ( probably 1 - 2 times a month ) when I hit the Start button I hear an extra click and the clock blinks out , I lose the programmed heating time and the clock time . I have to reset the clock and re-enter my heat time . This , of course , has never happened to my husband , only me for some reason . A minor inconvenience , and one that had I bought this from a local store I would have taken back and exchanged .
Actually , if I hadn't already returned the first oven Amazon sent me , I would have returned this one as well for exchange . The first oven they sent me had a dent in the top surface , and the white enamel was chipped and peeling off the inside . Now that I think about it , I had to return an expensive digital camera recently because after working with it a month it appeared to be a lemon . Personally , any higher priced or bulky products I plan to purchase I think I will get from a local retailer even if they're a little more expensive . A local retailer dealing face to face with customers usually tries to have better quality control , and if I have to return something the process won't be a long drawn out ordeal through the mail . Sometimes less expensive really means cheap .
001 4 I conducted a good amount of research before deciding on this Sharp microwave oven . I wanted my new oven to meet the following important criteria and have the following features :
* a carousel and be able to fit a dinner plate
* at least 1000 watts of heating power ( this has 1100 ) to heat food fast
* classy looking , compact stainless steel design
* name brand reputation for reliability
* around 100 dollars or so , give or take a little
I've had good luck with the Sharp brand . My previous microwave oven was also a Sharp unit , I had purchased way back in 1995 . It was a full-size unit though , and I wanted to get something smaller , in stainless steel , since we recently re-did our kitchen in stainless steel . ' Luck would have it ' that our old 1995 Sharp unit broke down shortly after we re-did our kitchen in late 2005 , so I jumped at the opportunity to get another Sharp . The new R - 305KS works flawlessly , and cooks even faster and more even than my older , larger unit ! I must have reaped the benefits of improved microwave technology over the last 10 years or so that i've owned the older Sharp oven . All in all , a SUPERB VALUE and a SOLID PERFORMER !

008 4 I purchased a Sharp microwave oven , which worked fine for 7 weeks .
I used it to heat soup , and for oatmeal in the morning .
One morning it just broke .
The door closed , the light and fan came on , but there was no heat .
It emitted a burning plastic smell .
Sharp service told me that I needed to have a Sharp-authorized technician examine it before it could be replaced .
Unfortunately , the nearest Sharp-authorized service location is a two-hour round trip drive for me . They don't accept shipments , nor are they are not open on weekends .
This means that in order for me to obtain warranty service on this relatively new product I would have to * take a day off work * , as it is too far to drive on my lunch hour .
Also , one cannot return a product to Sharp for examination ; as per the warranty you must hand carry or ship the item to a service location ( if your service location accepts shipments ; mine doesn't ) .
So I believe my current options are :
1 ) find a local microwave service place , and pay for the service myself
or
2 ) throw the oven away
I recommend not purchasing any Sharp appliance unless you know that a Sharp-authorized service location is close by .

013 4 I purchased a Sharp R - 420LW in December , 2008 from hhgregg . In June , 2009 the sensor feature failed causing sparks and loud grinding noises to emanate from the oven . I located Sharp repair services on the internet and called the listed number to obtain service . Unfortunately , I did not ask if the location listed on Sharp's website was accurate . I took the oven to the listed location only to find a vacant residential house . I then went to hhgregg where the original purchase was made and after a lengthy wait an hhgregg manager begrudgingly provided me with a 800 number that led to a repair service in a city some 240 miles from my location . I heartily caution anyone interested in a Sharp product to first check out warranty service availability .

I do NOT have oily skin . Just the opposite . I'm a guitar player . Where other guitarists measure guitar string life in days or weeks , I measure it in months because my body chemistry is kind to metal strings . However , every time I touched the panel of the microwave to open the door or touched the door itself to close it , I'd leave a mark . Also , I'm NOT a neat-freak . These stains really jump out .
I found I was constantly wiping them off and not always successfully . I'd gotten so tired of it that after a few days I returned it to the store where I'd purchased it locally , took the hit from the restocking fee , and bought something white . Actually , white , black , red , wood grain , it wouldn't matter as long as it wasn't so-called stainless !

The reason you see everything from 5 star to 1 star reviews for this microwave is that it all depends if the product is working or not . If this microwave works it is functional and relatively easy to use , but if it konks out - - you have a useless appliance . Sharp knows it is not worth repairing and in all likelihood another microwave will be purchased . Not even 9 months after buying this microwave it made a loud sound and no longer would heat . Personally I want something reliable and am tossing this microwave and moving onto another brand . I am having surgery in a month and will need a microwave and am at least thankful it did not stop functioning just after my surgery . But in all honesty it is not worth playing Russian roulette when you have other microwaves to choose from . Reliability is important to me . There are too many of these types of complaints about this Sharp microwave on Amazon . Why take a chance ? Stay away from Sharp microwaves .

This Sharp microwave was less than I expected . It replaced a Panasonic and the build quality is definitely inferior . Opening and closing the door , one gets the feeling that they are breaking it . It is also very loud .
However , it does seem to cook fairly evenly .

The warranty provided by Sharp only goes as far as free repair for one year ( we had to either ship it or bring it in person to the nearest repairer , which is not the most convenient ) , and does not allow returning . So I am glad that it broke in time for returning to Amazon . Buying from Amazon is good . Given the mixed reviews here and my own experience , I think Sharp needs to work on their quality control . Also , the control panel is not the most intuitive for users .

022 4 We liked this microwave just fine until last night . We purchased it March 2008 ( Model R - 420L / R425L , same features and looks just like the model shown here ) . My son was in the middle of heating up a frozen meal . He had just stirred and reset to heat an additional 2 minutes . When he pushed the start button , there was a sudden noise and the microwave just stopped . Nothing worked - - it was completely dead . The microwave was hot to the touch and smelled like it was burning . It had tripped the circuit breaker but even after resetting the circuit and trying in another outlet , the microwave still does not work . The magnatron tube ( which it sounds like this might be what blew ) is under warranty for 5 years however that is only PARTS not labor or getting it to the service center . I can't believe an appliance like this would only work a little more than one year ! My last microwave was a Panasonic I'd had for 20 years ! In reading some of the current microwave reviews , I'm afraid that none of them are made to last these days . However I will not be buying another Sharp .

My experience with this Sharp product is consistent with recent experience a wide variety of consumer products made in China : even when I get a good product , if I buy the same product again , then it's different ( e.g . , garden nozzles , exercise shoes ) . So my guess is that there really aren't Sharp MWs , just a variety of look-alike MWs made in any number of Chinese sweat shops with a Sharp label . No way to tell if your product came from the right sweat shop on the right day .
If service matters to you , then I'd go to the Sharp site , ID your local Factory service provider , and check it out before you buy . BTW , disregard my Cincinnati address . I'm in Eugene , OR now . But couldn't change profile .

029 4 This Sharp microwave was very powerful and cooked / heated foods quickly and evenly . . . for about 4 months . After that , the food started cooking unevenly , even if the item was placed in the middle of the rotating plate .
After 6 months , I tried to heat up my stringbeans and it started a mini fire in the microwave ! Thinking it was my plate , I switched plates and tried again . 2 seconds into the warming , a mini fire errupted again , but this time followed by a loud ZAPping sound . I am scared to even try again , so here I am , shopping for a new one on Amazon .
I would not recommend purchasing this , and if you do , would recommend you stay close to it so that a fire does not start up ! It was pretty scary !
And lastly , the footprint of this microwave is HUGE and takes up a lot of space . . . so unless you are constantly heating foods for a huge family , I would recommend getting something smaller ! !

I bought this after a trusty Amana died after 20 years . The look is trendy , but the performance is key .
I looked at plenty of 800 watt units , and a few 900 ' s . Sharp had the right size , and the right wattage .
This unit is FAST , and the interior size can easily support a full size plate .
There are pre-programmed options for melt , defrost , and popcorn , along with others .
As a single person , I tested it on real life things :
GREAT for heating microwave meals
OUTSTANDING for a simple baked potato . Add cheese and bacon , you have a meal .
PERFECT for soups .
If you are like me , you are looking at spend and value . There are less expensive MW's out there , but the 1100 watts makes this a unique keeper .
Give it a try . I got mine with Amazon Prime so shipping was free - they said 2 - day , but I got it overnight .
It is smaller than the HUGE ones , but is only a few bucks more than the stripped down , really small models .
Go ahead and treat yourself - you deserve a great microwave .
Four stars only for the rather lame instruction's .
This is best-in-class as a gift , or for yourself .

the instruction booklet is a bit confusing , but after reading it a few times I uderstand what to do ,
I noticed that the suggested cooking times on the TV dinners are still too high , even tho they are based on a 1100 watt machine . .
I generally reduce suggested minimum cooking time approx 30 - 60 seconds less , at least .
someone mentioned that it is loud when closing door , True , BUT at least is closed .

I found the microwave to be compact , light for its just right size for two seniors , and key pad very functional and easy to use and understand . Two sharp seniors confidently recommend SHARP microwave !
042 4 I did a lot of research on this product and that is why I was twice as angry when I couldn't even open the door on this product . It was a Mother's day gift and I presented it to my mother . Well , see what the manual says about this , says my mother . Sure , Mom , once I can get the door open , I can then get the manual , and then , I'll read the manual as to how to get the door open . Amazon was good about refunding my purchase price plus the shipping ( back ) . I will do more research and find another microwave .

I purchased this microwave from Best Buy in June of 2006 . In December of 2006 , it stopped working . I brought it to a Sharp authorized repair shop , and they replaced the magnetron ( which generates the microwaves ) under warranty . ( They provided great service ) . In May of 2009 , the magnetron failed again ! No longer under warranty , I did the research , and the part alone , direct from the distributor would be $92 plus shipping . I decided to just buy a new microwave . I bought a GE at Sam's Club , equivalent size , more features , more convenient to use , for only $64 !
In addition to being poorly manufactured , The functionality of the controls on this microwave is terrible . Sharp has gone backwards with ease of use on this model .
It used to be that Sharp made the best microwaves . The two Sharps I had prior to this lasted 9 years each . Their quality has gone way downhill .
046 4 I did a lot of looking around before I bought this , and I have not been disappointed . I've only had it for a month , so I don't know how it will hold up , but so far it is everything it claimed to be and was pretty much the best deal I found - - the best quality for the price . It doesn't have a stainless steel interior , but it has this cool technology that directs the microwaves in such a way that food doesn't get baked on if you don't wipe it off immediately . Also , the stainless steel front is really low maintenance . Everything in my kitchen is stainless steel and some stuff just won't look clean unless I use a spray polish . Fingerprints on the microwave wipe clean with a damp cloth . However , the front is the only stainless steel part . The rest is that painted silvery-gray . The turntable mechanism is a little cheap , but it doesn't pop up and derail the turntable ( not yet , anyway ) . It comes off to clean it , though .

This is the main reason I bought this , this is a fabulous feature !

This evening we were heating a dinner dish and in a matter of moments the kitchen and house filled with a burning plastic smell and extremely noxious smoke . It was the microwave ; not the food . The smoke was thick and it was difficult to breath . It's 14 degrees Fahrenheit outside and we've got the doors and windows open trying to air out the house . I'll press to test the Sharp limited warranty process but I'll also notify the government product safety folks . Our experience tonight seems similar to the review preceding mine . If we've got an unsafe trend beginning with this product the right folks need to know . Thirty minutes after we shut it down I had to use an oven mitt to carry it out to the garage because the bottom right side was still too hot to touch .

Here I am , after a year and a half looking for a new microwave to replace this one . It was awesome in the beginning . It warmed up food in no time at all . I didn't read the dimensions and it is really big-which I never liked , but boy was it fast . The past couple of months it started to take longer to warm food-a few seconds every couple of weeks . Last night I made popcorn , my husband then tried to warm water and the door just stopped closing . Now it's going to the dump where we have to pay $15 to get rid of it . By the way , the door latch is really loud to open and close . It has woken our kids up who are on a different floor of the house . In the middle of the night warming bottles I always winced in fear it was going to wake up the older toddler . No fun there when it happened.I guess you get what you pay for .

This is a great buy for its ' price . What sold me on this Sharp originally was a review from another buyer . It noted that the interior cooking space is large enough for a dinner plate . This is true , and there's still a little space to spare . The cooking options are well engineered and cooking is easy . There are many quick-cooking , re-heating , thawing etc . options pre-programmed so using it is easy . I wanted something that wasn't as big as some of the standard sized ovens because of limited kitchen counter space . Judging from the dimensions in the initial ad , this oven looked like it would fit well where I wanted to put it . It's a convenient size and fits well in several places . The clock on the front is well placed and easily readable from anywhere in the room . The stainless outer framework looks nice and is easily cleaned . The door is noisier than I would have thought but this was noted in the review that I read pre-purchase . This doesn't bother me at all . The interior compartment is well lit and ventilated . I bought this oven replacing another Sharp that I'd had since about 1992 that was still working well , although causing electrical interference with audio equipment in an adjacent apartment . This machine does not . I've never had a bad experience with Sharp brand appliances and was brand specific when shopping for this replacement oven . Power output is sufficient . I haven't used this oven for cooking raw materials but its many options for doing this are documented in the instruction materials and easily understood . I think this is a great product .

What else can you say about a microwave ? The buttons you need to press to turn it on make sense , it gets food warm pretty quickly , it's easy to clean when things get messy and it's quiet for a microwave .
I like that I can get my relatively oversized dinner plates into it and it's tall enough for my tallest drink glasses .

I use stainless steel cleaner in a can to help keep this looking new ( no smear marks ) . It wipes clean real easily . It seemed smaller than expected for some reason , but haven't had to reheat anything that didn't fit in it yet . That means more space savings on my counter . The specific buttons such as the popcorn button are right on time wise . No hot spots in our food like with some other microwaves . This one is a bit more costly but well worth the money for the quality .

This is the perfect medium-size microwace . It has buttons for defrost , popcorn , melt , soften , warm and reheat . It is simple and easy to use . It is not too small and not too big and fits nicely in the space in my kitchen .
083 4 I needed to replace my GE Overrange Microwave ( which magnatron broke after only three yrs ) and decided with so many bad reviews of the more expensive brands to go ahead and try the Sharp R - 305KS . So far , so good ! It fits my countertop and looks really nice . I find it easy to use . The only thing in comparison to the GE model is that it takes a little longer to cook food thoroughly and sometimes there are uneven areas ( but I haven't used a microwave that cooks food perfectly even anyway ) . As long as this microwave outlasts my GE ( which now serves as a breadbox ) I'll be happy . I'll be happier anyway just because I didn't have to spend a fortune on this one !

After five years with my old GE microwave , I was reluctent to put it in the recyle bin , but after a year of burning food in the center of the machine , it was time . My new Sharp arrived and in a short time I was zapping my frozen dinners , warming my left over coffee , and softening the butter for my Christmas cookies . It was easy to use and the results are great . My popcorn comes out perfect with fewer old maids than than usual . I love it . Glad I made the swap .

I bought this microwave to replace the old one that I had for thirteen years . It was a GREAT buy ! ! It's medium sized , perfect to be placed over the counter . I love my Sharp R - 305KS microwave , but miss the sensor that my too large , older Sharp had . That one had convection which I prefer in my toaster oven . This microwave gives you hints , but you have to figure out the times for soft and hard vegetables , bacon , and potatoes , which isn't too difficult . I use Nordic microwave for all of those which is perfect .

It is powerful , easy to operate , and has some nice features like the Popcorn button , and the Minute Plus . It looks good too , altho it is not really small or compact . I've had SHARP microwaves before and they have always performed extremely well . Highly recommend if you want a basic microwave that looks nice .

The clock on the front is well placed and easily readable from anywhere in the room . The stainless outer framework looks nice and is easily cleaned . The door is noisier than I would have thought but this was noted in the review that I read pre-purchase . This doesn't bother me at all . The interior compartment is well lit and ventilated . I bought this oven replacing another Sharp that I'd had since about 1992 that was still working well , although causing electrical interference with audio equipment in an adjacent apartment . This machine does not . I've never had a bad experience with Sharp brand appliances and was brand specific when shopping for this replacement oven . Power output is sufficient . I haven't used this oven for cooking raw materials but its many options for doing this are documented in the instruction materials and easily understood . I think this is a great product .

This one is a bit more costly but well worth the money for the quality .

I will continue to trust Panasonic and will never trust Sharp again . I can't afford to risk my house burning down while I'm asleep or away from the house .
