Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Blue)

  • 006 4  This is a nice camera overall , but the macro shooting on the little A480 is positively splendid ! The super-macro feature is unbelievably good . We've come a long way from the Kodak Instamatic cameras of 30 years ago , where your only chance of getting a tight closeup was to hold a very strong magnifying glass in front of the lens and hope that one of the photos turned out . I regularly use the A480 as a back-up to much more expensive gear - and every now and then it actually outperforms a DSLR camera and lens kit that cost me ten times its price . Anyone who enjoys taking experimental photos or shooting in the great outdoors - - nature geeks like me - - will appreciate this camera's macro abilities . It easily finds the correct focus and light levels , even on very difficult shots . The trick with a beautiful close-up photo is to have an attractively blurred background . Very smooth , creamy blur ( referred to as bokeh ) allows the subject to really pop from the photo . The bokeh of the A480 exceeds the quality of some of the more modestly priced , though reasonably good , DSLR lenses that fall in the $200 - $400 range . Like most other point and shoot cameras , the A480 really shines in good strong lighting , and falls off a bit when used in dark settings with a flash . But even in poor lighting it is a remarkable little piece of equipment . Compared to most other point and shoot cameras , the A480 creates exceptionally rich photos with attractive color , sharpness , and tone . I use it regularly for website development projects , either to build photo galleries showing businesses and products , or to create textures and special FX graphics . The added Canon software is great as well and helps to supplement this camera . The Photostitch program , which creates a large panoramic image from a series of shots taken in sequence from left to right , was nearly perfect , and a riot to watch in action . It works best with photos taken from a tripod . The trick with any point and shoot is to take tons and tons of pictures , and then aggressively throw most of them out , retaining only the best . Unlike the old film days , it pays to burn through as many photos as your heart desires . Print only the best . This camera will help you create some real masterpieces .
    • 001 4  I have a canon digital SLR camera , and wanted to go on a hummer 4x4 extreme off road adventure . Rain was in the forecast and several days of rain on the trail already , taking the digital SLR was totally out of the question . I picked this nifty device based on the price , the batteries , storage on the SD card , and the 10mp really perked my interest . The gentleman at the camera shop showed me the easy access on / off button , and where the press here for picture button is located . 20 minutes after the purchase , I was in the hummer taking photos and within the hour , I was being bounced around , getting muddy water all over me , I was able to laugh and press the button to take pictures without problem . Ease of operation : I use my cameras in the auto mode , ( the if SLR is for my wife ) , and the auto mode does work . I was able to view the pictures I took using the 2.5 view screen with ease . I did not even need the instruction manual . The batteries and memory card were easy to install too , without the need for instructions . The camera does boast a host of different shooting modes , but auto is all I use . Picture quality : Not a fine as my digital SLR camera , but the price difference is over 1000.00 dollars . Compared to my old 5mp camera , this camera does a very good job for the price . Image stabilization is WONDERFUL . I was trying to take picture of the hummer tires while we were in motion bouncing everywhere ( the tire at times was in the air ) and the pictures look almost as if the tire is still . You can read the manufacturer on the tire Battery life : After two days of use , the camera was still able to go . To save battery life , the LCD screen turn itself off and the followed by the camera ( the auto shut off was annoying some times ) Summary : The camera is very easy to operate , image stabilization works very well . Time from button press to picture taken is almost unnoticeable . Picture quality is pretty darn good . For the entry market , or for those looking for a good camera that won't break the bank , this maybe the camera you are looking for /
    • 002 4  For an entry level point and shoot , this camera is ok . There are a few cons about this camera as well as pros . Con : The first camera I bought had auto-focusing issue . It will not auto-focus correctly in normal and infinity mode . I went back to the store and exchanged it . I made them open the box so I can test it there and the 2nd camera worked fine . Just FYI . After having it for 30 mins , dust already got inside the LCD screen . It is not a big deal unless you have OCD or something . The video quality is pretty decent at the highest settings , however , the camera cannot handle light reflections off the water . If light reflects off the water and into the camera , the video will cause a vertical line streak . One streak isn't so bad , but when you're at the beach with tons of light reflecting off the water / sand it caused tons of vertical lines streaks . Also becareful when replaying videos on the camera . Sometimes it will start where you last stopped . I accidentally deleted several videos thinking the video was shorter than it really was . Pros : I used the alkaline batteries provided with the camera and regular Duracell batteries . I got a good amount of photos and videos before I needed to replace them . I am happy with the battery life . Even though the camera isn't as thin as the digital elphs , the camera is pretty compact for an AA-powered camera . The button layout is pretty nice . Really simple interface . You can pick it up really quick . Lots of nice program settings such as super macro , portraits , beach and my favorite : long shutter ( up to 15 seconds ) . Conclusion : Overall , I am pretty happy with the camera . The picture quality of the camera is pretty good . I am happy with the video quality so long it's not at the beach . I wanted an inexpensive point and shoot . Just remember this is the absolute bottom line of Canon's point and shoots . It's decent for the $99 I paid for it .
    • 005 4  I wanted a small digital that would fit in my shirt pocket that used AA batteries and of course took good pictures . The Canon A480 far exceed my expectation . Out of the box it was so intuitive to use that I hardly looked at the manual . I took tons of pictures and they all came out great . There was a bad review here by someone who said there was a problem with battery charging all the time , however I noticed it once and that was it , and even then it was for just a couple of seconds . If you want an easy camera that does alot ( the movies were great on this little guy ) then this is the ticket .
    • 007 4  I bought this camera as a throw around to just keep in my purse . I LOVE this thing ! The battery life is awesome . I used it for a 6 day trip to Vegas AND for another 2 day adventure , and still have not needed to replace the aa batteries and have taken over 200 pix with it ! Buy it ! It's a great camera , especially for the price . It's a steal !
    • 013 4  Very nice , inexpensive camera . Takes regular AA batteries , so it is easy to always be ready to take some pics . I paired it with a cheap , hi-capacity memory card , and I can take photos for days . The included settings are very nice and this camera takes very good photos right out of the box , no monkeying around . If you are a camera novice like me , and do not want to spend $200 or more on a camera , this camera is going to do everything you need it to do . I am not a pro , nor an amateur , nor even much of a hobbyist . I do not read the manual that comes with cameras . I needed a small , light , not too expensive camera to be able to take nice , high res photos with good , accurate color and detail and that is exactly what I got , at a price that is shockingly good . This is a very light , small camera , but it is maybe an inch to an inch and a half thick , so this is not the camera you want if you are looking for a tiny subcompact camera that fits in a shirt or jeans pocket with no bulge . But , it is small , but takes great pics , and there are a bunch of built-in scene modes , like Portrait , or Landscape - - stuff like that so you can set the camera for what you are doing and take a nice picture . It has a 3.3x zoom , which is handy . You aren't going to be able to see the lion's eyeball if you take the camera on safari , but it allows you to zoom in on your friend's face , or a houseplant , or your dog , whatever , without dancing back and forth , to and fro to get a good framed shot . It is ready to take pictures in less than a second from the time you hit the power button , and it has surprisingly good battery life ( I have a 5 MP Canon Powershot from 5 years ago higher up the line with doodads and features I only rarely used , but the battery life on that thing stinks ) . The battery life on this camera is pretty darned good . Great starter camera for a kid or young adult , great camera for someone like me - - who like to take some pics but will probably never worry about aperture or exposure or white level . All around , general purpose camera that rocks sums it up well .
    • 022 4  . . . The camera began to give lots of lens errors , and would refuse to open and close the lens correctly . Hopefully , I simply got a lemon , but I bought on May 22 , gave it to my wife on June 13 , and it had quit by July 24 . Pretty discouraging . Frankly , I want to return it for a refund . Hopefully , Canon will cooperate . This was my first foray away from Olympus , and in a mere 6 weeks of use , this one camera has given me more problems than all my Olympuses ( Olympi ? ) have combined . Please help me out here , Canon .
    • 025 4  A friend suggested I take a look at this camera . We had just replaced our ancient A80 with a Nikon CoolPix S220 and couldn't have been more disappointed . While the Nikon was adorable and tiny , it took absolutely awful photos . So when I started reading reviews of the A480 , I was ready to try another camera . After the first five minutes with the A480 , I was already in love . The A480 is perfectly easy to use , right out the box . It's really just a point and shoot - as in , every time you simply point and shoot , you'll get a great shot . If you're not looking to mess around with lighting , depth of field and shutter speeds , this is your camera . It's a little bulky and heavy for a small camera , but the controls are easy to use , the LCD screen is large and clear , and the image quality makes up for any other non-ideal characteristics . I usually shoot a Nikon D40 , but often times , I like the leave the big camera at home and just throw a P & S in my purse / pocket . With this camera , I can count on quality photos every time . Thanks , Canon !
    • 030 4  I have bought hundreds of cameras for an insurance company , for use by Claims personnel . We started with Sonys and then I started buying Canon PowerShot a510 , for reasons mentioned below . We rarely had lens error issues , I remember about 4 out of hundreds . When we got to the a480 being sold at the time of this writing , after almost no problems up to the a560 , we got stuck lens with 6 out of every 10 cameras provided to our users . We liked Canon because unlike the Sonys , they used standard batteries , required no special and expensive cable to transfer , and the only dislike was that there was no native memory on the camera , requiring a memory stick from the get-go . All through the A series ( 530 - 580 ) we got good life from these cameras . But the newest model was virtually broken in the box . I assumed that this weakness of a spring or gearing was endemic to all cameras in this price range ( under $150 ) since they all appear to spew from the same Chinese factory . We now buy Samsung SL30s are waiting to see what happens .
    • 041 4  We've had three other Cannon cameras . Eventually , we end up getting them wet or smashing the display in accidents . This time , the one we smashed was the shirt-pocket sized Elph . So we wanted to replace it with another tiny one . This one's better . The menus are better organized than our older A630 ( We * love * the display on that camera ! ) and the Super Macro feature is amazing ! We prefer the newer cameras that use AA batteries to the older ones that used their own special batteries . When shooting flash pictures two AA's don't last very long , but there isn't room for four of them in this little camera . Oh well , that's why we have a bigger camera in addition to this little guy . We think the picture quality , the ease of use , the portability and the price of this camera make it a great package . If you can only afford one camera , get this one .
    • 048 4  FAST , FAST , FAST . . . What a great Camera ! I was frustrated by my 2 year old Olympus point & shoot camera . Every time I would press the shutter button , the camera would delay up to 1 second before taking the picture . By then the smile was gone ; the ball was kicked ; the candles were blown out ; the moment was missed . To get anything had to anticipate the shot and click the shutter before the right moment hoping that all the right elements came together at just the right time . I missed so many great shots over the last couple of years . This time before I bought I tested each camera in the store . The only camera that took a picture when I wanted it to was the Canon SureShot A480 . It doesn't matter if the photo uses the flash or not , it is instantaneous . The screen is bright . The images are crisp . . . and it uses 2 regular AA batteries so I can carry extras or buy them from a local store even when traveling . You can't go wrong with this camera .
    • 050 4  After 3 weeks of playing around with the settings , upgrading to photo lithium batteries , using a better memory card , etc . , I finally sent the camera back . The camera took too long to focus on the subject to get a good picture . By the time it registered , the photo moment was gone or the picture turned out blurry . Forget action shots as there was no way this camera could keep up with any movement . The battery seemed to really lag behind between shots ( about 6 - 8 seconds to recharge the flash ) even after I changed to better batteries . This camera was extremely aggravating to use . Thank goodness I decided to return it within my 30 days and Amazon refunded my money . I would not recommend this camera to anyone wanting to capture kids in action . The treasured moments will be long gone before the camera decides to actually take the shot ( and then it might not be a clearly focused one ) .
    • 054 4  Received this camera from Adorama Camera and it did not work . Adorama Camera refused to accept it back . Instead the camera had to be returned to Canon directly for repair of a new camera . Canon repaired it and sent it back within a week . Five stars for Canon and 0 stars for Adorama . Hence buyer beware ! Nevertheless , this camera works well for a basically advanced point and shoot camera . Lightweight and great on battery life delivering very nice photos . Quality is enhanced if it settings are adjusted to the type of subject and light available . It comes with a disc when downloaded contains in-depth manual on every feature of the camera .
    • 071 4  A Canon for under $100 . Uses AA batteries which is great and easy to use !
    • 082 4  I love this camera and never go anywhere without it . It's small and portable enough to keep with me all the time , for great photo ops . The picture quality is really very good for a point and shoot ( I have had two photos published from shots taken with this camera , so resolution is superb at close range . ) There are features I haven't even tried yet , but the auto focus works quite well . Long distance shots in mediocre light can produce poor resolution , but better light = decent long-range shots . Night shots are superb - I'm amazed by how well night lights and street shots are captured with this thing . Rechargeable batteries are an absolute must , as is the camera case . The one gripe : The camera lens mechanism is somewhat busted after 8 months of constant use , and now requires manual assistance to open and shut ( loud clicking sound ) . As another reviewer posted on 3 / 20 / 10 , I also keep mine in its case and care for it very carefully . Still takes great photos . Given the volume of picture I have snapped , and the fact this camera has gone with me everywhere , I know I have gotten great return on my initial investment . Will be purchasing another one very soon ( did Canon just drop the price in half to $99 ? ) to wait in the wings until this one finally stops working . Highly recommended for anyone with the slightest interest in hobby photography , to complement your DSLR with this one's easy portability .
    • 085 4  We bought this camera from amazon as an almost first camera for our 3 year old daughter ( her first camera , an Argus Bean , spontaneously quit working after 90 days ) . I think this is a fantastic camera and my daughter loves using it . We have had the camera for a couple of weeks . I read all the other reviews on amazon before making the purchase ( thanks ! ) . While we love the camera , I am still not sure this camera will ultimately be sturdy enough for use by a 3 year old . Our daughter is very careful with stuff and always uses the camera with the wrist strap , but with the lens extended , I fear it is only a matter of time until she bumps it into something or drops it on the floor . So I am not sure I can recommend it as a sturdy first camera - time will tell . But the design is very simple , it is a good size for her tiny hands ( she is small for 3 ) , and she is learning how to use functions like zoom and flash pretty quickly . And she loves taking pictures ! I also want to point out that the camera does a surprising good job with macro shots . I am a casual photographer but I love taking close ups of flowers , textures , etc . and I recently purchased a Canon SX 200 IS ( also from amazon ) . The SX 200 is a fine camera and it does do great macros but , for my simple needs , if I had it to do all over again , I would be tempted to save some bucks and buy one of these instead . Nice design . Update ( 4 / 9 / 2010 ) : The camera is still going strong - my daughter has yet to destroy it by dropping it . And she is taking a bunch of pictures and clearly having a blast . I do recommend getting some rechargeable batteries for it as the batteries have gone flat at inopportune moments . But if you carry fully charged spares you should be fine .
    • 093 4  This is a great camera for the price ! For $100 you get everything you need to start taking photos - a memory card , batteries and a USB cord for downloading . The camera is very easy to figure out and it takes excellent pictures . For the money , it's a steal ! I purchased more memory and a battery charger for mine . New comment 2 - 12 - 10 : I recently bought an Olympus SLR camera because I found myself wanting perfection in my photos . I am going to give this camera to my mother . I still think for the price , you can't beat it !
    • 101 4  I got this camera for my 6 year old son , who has been wanting his own camera ( having borrowed my point-and-shoot enough now ) . I wanted something very simple , but that would turn out decent pictures and this fits the bill well . It is very easy , just turn it on , and push the button . The pictures have come out well , the flash is recharging pretty quickly ( I'd say about 6 - 7 seconds ) , and he really loves the movie mode as well as the regular still picture mode . The zoom button is on the back face of the camera ( not on top ) , so a little getting used to . Given the price , the quality , and the simplicity , this is a good camera for someone who wants to take pictures without any thought involved in technical setup . Oh , and he thinks a red camera is cool .
    • 115 4  I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this camera was for me to use , I took several little videos and posted them right away for my kids , I took them of myself , and of my cat , they came out beautifully , The pictures I took were of myself also for account pics at facebook , I just love the camera , haven't had to change batteries yet either , have been using it for a couple of weeks now , also took some video of a ftreworks dispaly one night , beautiful color , and good sound ! I am making a video diary of my move back to my home town , I am very pleasantly surprised as I am electronically challenged .
    • 119 4  for my first digital camera i was impressed.my batteries lasted very long ( disposibles ) . need to to see if i can get ni-cad's ( not ni-mh ! ) for it ( thinking green ! ! ) . shipping was very quick.price was good.i just need to spend more time with it , to understand it better .
    • 122 4  This camera was given as a gift to our daughter to take pictures of our grandson . She seems to love the camera and uses it daily to take and share pictures with our family . I have not personally used this camera , but judging by how happy she seems to be with the camera , it was a tremendous gift that has made her very happy ! I did research this item first and I'll have to say that it seemed to be a very high quality item , at a very reasonable price .
    • 146 4  Since I owned a few Canon Cameras over the years , I decided to purchase a pocket camera so I can snap some great pictures when I visit places . I can surely say that this camera is the best value that I have purchased in a long time . It's easy and simple to use and very light weight and small . It can even fit in my jacket pocket . For this price , I can definitely take a really good picture . The only thing lacking is those special features for viewing but you probably have to pay more for those . It all comes down that you pay is what you get and same goes to durability . Just think of a work horse camera and at a very reasonable price . Well , then get this Canon Camera . Amazinly , it also has Image Stabilizing make this a really bargain .
    • 166 4  This camera was a Christmas gift to my son and daughter-in-law . They are truly elated with the camera . The picture quality , for the price , is great . It is the second camera for them and in just a few days my daughter-in-law was showing me videos taken with the camera . Very compact , but large viewing screen . A highly recommended camera from them and me . If you're looking fo a great , simple , compact camera , buy it ! ! Here's the rub . There was a bundle deal , if you also bought a case and 4gig card you paid an addtional $14 and some change . Well , the card came from another vendor so , you guessed it , there was an additional shipping charge for just the card of $16.95 . I live in SE Michigan and eventualy saw the card at Meijers for $11 and some change , just under $12.00 . Be mindful of the shipping charges . I waited for the last minute to buy this camera and had no choice but to pay the additional shipping . I actually paid $16.95 shipping for the camera and case AND $16.95 for just the card : (
    • 168 4  Overall a nice camera but looked smaller ( thinner ) online . I returned it for a Canon Powershot SD1200IS instead , paid a little more ( luckily found a nearly new one for $125 ) , but well worth it . If form factor isn't a big deal to you , this is a nice camera for the price .
    • 189 4  Canon provides an excellent , inexpensive , point & shoot compact camera free of problems . Provides very good quality picture for prints or internet use - my wife loves her gift !
    • 191 4  The picture quality is excellent in day time and at night with the flash . If you turn off the flash and it's not bright enough , the shutter speed slows down to increase exposure time resulting in a blurry image if you don't have a tripod to keep it perfectly still . The video quality varies from poor to great depending on the light . It's common for it to be grainy without the right light . Something I think is odd : When zooming in video mode , it doesn't zoom with the lens while recording - it digitally zooms which results in a blurry video . You have to zoom before pressing record for it to use optical zooming . Overall , I'm pretty happy with it . It's a great camera for casual use and at a great price .
    • 198 4  I just returned my A480 to Amazon after less than one month of use . I've previously used Canon cameras and thought they were one of the best point-and-shoot brands . However , I was disapointed with the A480 the moment I unboxed it , and my disapointment only got worse with time . I'm very likely to buy another brand as a replacement as a result of my experience with the A480 . The only good aspect of the camera was it's image processor , which was as good as they get . When all went well , it took great pictures . It's really a shame Canon put this into such a cheaply built camera body . You feel the cheapness of it as soon as you pick it up . This turned out to be more than just an impression , as my lens mechanism began making a horrible grinding noise in a matter of weeks . I was actually relived that it did , as it gave me a real reason to ditch the camera . Other than it's sad lack of quality , it had the following problems : A ) No image stabilization meant that unless you were in very very bright light , or using a flash , you would need to stabilize the camera against something or use a tripod or monopod to get a clear image . B ) It eats batteries like candy , I only got useful battery life from the most expensive lithium photo batteries . C ) No click-wheel for settings means you'll spend time running through unintuitive on sreen menus to find a setting instead of taking pictures . Likewise , you'll likely have to do the same inconvienient multi-menu process to turn off a mode , or worse forget to do so , and take an afternoon of outdoor pictures while still in aquarium mode . D ) The flash takes far too long to recharge & during this time the camera is useless , 5 - 10 seconds between shots is seems to be the standard recharge time for this model .
    • 202 4  Not having to charge batteries and getting that picture quality and for around $ [ . . . ] bucks , a great product
    • 206 4  pros : Relatively good camera with good features . These are the video and mic quality av input so you can view pictures on your tv Cons : it has to charge the flash , slow shutter speed , has difficulty in getting good shots in the nights appears somewhat grainy at times , one of my shots had a red eye beats me how that got there . doesnt have image stablization so you may have to hold still to take a picture . When zooming a picture the quality become blurry and grainy . Overall consider the low cost for a Canon , if you are not a techy person , this camera can be used for a everyday use .
    • 215 4  Pictures are very grainy , quite surprisingly . The A70 that I have is much better in comparison . The flash recharge indeed is very annoying and I do not expect it to do that with fresh batteries . Returned .
    • 217 4  I bought this camera as a backup for my another ( more expensive ) Canon camera . Picture quality seems worse than the other one , but this one was like one third of its price , so I wouldn't complain . The only clear disadvantage so far is it really drains batteries quickly . Occasionally , a new pack doesn't even last a day .
    • 229 4  Bought this camera looking for an easy point and shoot that would still take good quality pics - - to offset our larger digital SLR ( just too much of a pain to drag along some times ) . After 4 days of use we are unimpressed . The picture quality is extremely grainy . The charging flash is extremely annoying . And the battery life is poor - - at least compared to other cameras I've had . I'm sending this one back .
    • 235 4  Decided we would go with the cheaper model since the last one locked up on vacation and , as you know , cameras - no matter what you pay - are disposable items , when something goes wrong , there is no one to fix them , you simply buy a new one . This model is less expensive than our previous Cannon , and definitely feels cheaper . Case design , material etc , feels cheap but sturdy , it is a nice size , and takes the same memory chips as the previous one ( different battery though ) . The controls are almost the same as the other , and it says it will take almost the same range of pictures as the higher end Cannon - less zoom though . There viewfinder is also missing on this model . As far as the purchase , everything was great - came as promised , etc , well packed , everything was there and worked . We have yet to use it other than to download pictures from the previous camera . Software was the same , so overall this is a good purchase so far .
    • 240 4  It's a cheap camera it feels cheap it looks cheap . I am a Canon camera fan but this one has to be the cheapest lowest quality camera they make . I bought this and since Amazon does not ship to APO addresses ( IRAQ ) . I had them ship it to my wife then she shipped it to me . It ended up taking a month to get to me . I have only had it for almost 3 weeks and I turned it on today and it made a horrible grinding noise and now the lens dosen't move . being that it takes about 3 weeks to ship from here to the states and another 2 weeks to ship back here I am biting the bullet on this and not returning it . I will never buy a cheap camera again . The video picture is really grainy and the pictures most seem to be a little out of focus . Our 5megapix Canon IS has a 10x better pic quality than this one also the Samsung camera I replaced this on with has a way better pic quality , Hell even my old canon powershot 2megapix camera takes better pics than this one . Do not buy this unless you want to buy another in a couple months .
    • 244 4  I was looking for something that would slip easily into a pocket . The photos look like it is small , but it is somewhat triangular to account for the AA batteries and is quite wide at one end . The best word to describe it is clunky . I love my Canon S3 IS and would love to stick with Canon for my pocket camera , but I can't deal with the size and returned it .

  • 014 4  This is my second Canon digital point and shoot camera and it is a winner . My wife and I seem to have lost our A620 ( how do you lose a digital camera ? ! ) and needed to replace it quickly with something inexpensive . After doing some research we went with the A480 and are very satisfied . The camera is svelte enough to travel in a pocket and is reasonably attractive in design . Our bottom line most important criterion was picture quality , and the A480 delivers . The pictures are close in quality to those of the A620 , an older but significantly more expensive Canon A series model that offered more manual controls . I was really surprised to get such good shots from such a budget price . I've owned Fuji & Casio digital cameras and I find that comparably price Canon cameras take better pictures for the most part and the A480 only confirms this expectation . The A480 is a model of simplicity , both in terms of controls and features . There are a dozne scene modes but 90% of the time we simply use the auto mode and let the camera do the rest . The pictures look great , both outdoor and indoor . I was figuring that with a $90 camera we'd have to sacrifice picture quality but that isn't the case . Speed-wise the camera is only average , showing a little bit of irritating lag time between pressing the button and capturing the shot . You'll also have to wait a few seconds after shooting for the camera to ready itself for the next shot . The A480 does , however , start up very quickly when you turn it on . The less-than blazing speeds are not surprising given the price , and that's really the overall deal with the A480 - it all comes down to expectations . This is a budget camera and for the sub - $100 price you get a quality instrument capable of delivering really good pictures , but without much in the way of features and a performance level that is not top tier . A solid no-frills digital camera that offers good bang for buck and very good photo quality in a simple point and shoot package .
    • 018 4  Just a quick note about this handy little camera . I shoot semi-professionally ( Canon 40D with L lens ) and wanted a pocket camera for my family to use , especially on our cycling trips . We plan on strapping it onto one of our bikes and video taping the trail . We have had the camera for a couple of months and everyone in my family has had fun using it . My husband has never been a huge camera user but used it on our daughter's field trip and found it to be user friendly . We have been pleased with the video and picture quality for a $79 camera . The smaller and lighter Elphs would have been better but at $79 , we can afford damages on rough trips . All in all , it is inexpensive , reliable and delivers well for an entry level point-and-shoot .
    • 027 4  For what I paid , this is a great snapshot camera . I've taken some decent video with it , both inside with low light and outside with good light . The batteries last a long time , even when using the flash ( I'm using NiMH rechargables ) . The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't do a good job of focusing when it is on the Program mode and there isn't good contrast . My other Canon's ( even my 20 - year-old EOS 650 ! ) do a much better job . It does better on Auto , but you often have to try a few times before it will focus on what you want . Photo quality ( especially in Super Macro mode ) is very good for a point-n-shoot . All in all , I'm very satisfied with this purchase .
    • 047 4  I love Canon . This little camera takes great images in all kinds of conditions . It's not designed for low-light photography but even those images come out pretty good . During the day indoor shots are great too even without a flash . For someone new to digital photography this is a great first camera . My teen-aged daughter uses it as her first camera and had taken some amazing shots ! The A480 would also be good for an older person who wants to get into digital photography . You could also use it as a backup camera and be very happy with the results . If you need an inexpensive , dedicated camera that you can carry around you'll do well having this one . The best camera is the one you have with you ! You won't be able to capture the images without a camera !
    • 067 4  I have used and owned probably well over 15 lower cost point and shoot cameras between home and work . Sony , Nikon , Polaroid , Kodak etc . My experience has been that the Canon is the best under $100 camera you can get . Just enough functions to suit whatever you want to shoot , clear pictures without any special photography skills , standard style USB hook-up ( like 90% of devices use , not an oddball Canon-only thing or something like the Polaroid I had previously ) , uses the most common memory cards , etc . Also takes better video clips than most . I'd recommend the Canon to anyone looking for a camera under $100 . This is the 3rd of 4th one I have or have had , and after I try others , I always go back to the Canon .
    • 109 4  I love this camera . It takes nice pictures and has nice capabilities that I have not used yet . I purchased it for basic picture taking . My only complaint is the power button and taking picture button on too close together . I kept turning the camera off at first . It took a while for me to get use to the buttons being so close together . I am still exploring the camera's features . It has a lot of memory , but I did purchase the additional memory disk . I have not used the additional memory disk yet . If you are looking for more range / zoom then this camera may not be for you . The zoom is great for intimate pictures but not if you are trying to focus farther out , i.e . concerts , weddings and you are not up front .
    • 131 4  This camera has the same image processor as the other point and shoots from Canon . But , to reach a particular price point , Canon designed a model with no internal rechargable battery and they manufactured it out of cheap thin plastic . Otherwise , it has all of the features of most of their other models . A lack of internal batter and charger and the super thin cheap plastic housing is not worth the measly 20 dollars saved buying this model over their next model . I bought 2 of these for Christmas and they both got returned . The better models , for 20 dollars more , aren't just a little better . . . . they're a LOT better . My advice is to spend the extra 20 bucks and get another model .
    • 134 4  Disappointing product . Picture quality is worse than my old 5MP camera and the flash recharge is really annoying . My power button also kept getting pressed while in the in my purse and now the lens open / shut mechanism is messed up . Overall , a HUGE letdown by Canon .
    • 158 4  My new Canon Power Shot A480 is a beauty , I love it . It is not a complicated camera , its performance is amazing and the pictures have beautiful color . I am very pleased with my new camera .
    • 164 4  I was looking for a camera to purchase for my 9 year old daughter . I was skeptical about point n shoot cameras due to the bad luck I have had in the past . Then , out of the blue , I was at a local camera shop , and tested this one out , based on the salesman's recommendation . I did a whole bunch of shots , and pretty much all of them turned out . I was quite amazed . I did look at reviews , and most of them were pretty positive . One review had me a little worried in that the reviewer stated that the pictures turned out grainy . I didn't find this at all when I tested this camera . So , I bought it on the basis of how easy it is to use , and not that complicated . When I got it home , I opened it up , put batteries in it , and put in the memory card . I did a couple test shots , and low and behold I found what the reviewer was talking about . When you take a picture , the immediate preview is grainy , but upon reviewing the archives , the picture turns out nothing like the preview . Full color , and clarity was awesome ! My daughter opened it up on her birthday , and she hasn't put it down since . Every night we go through the pictures , and it has created a bonding moment for the two of us . That my friend is priceless !
    • 226 4  My kids ( 7 and 9 yrs old ) got this camera . They took pictures all over the places . The camera is easy to use . Almost fool proof . Photo quality is usually great , but indoor or lower light photo quality is definitely not good at all . Battery life is excellent . All-in-all , the A480 is an excellent camera for the price . But there are much better camera at slightly higher price . People should also check out the Kodak camera for value .
    • 227 4  I am not thrilled with this camera but it works fine . My major complant with it is that it has to recharge the flash after every 5 pictures or so . Very annoying when you have to stop for your camera to charge !
    • 231 4  I have gone through four of these cameras trying to get one that works properly . This sounds worse than it should . Actually , they all worked , but Canon's instruction manual is improperly written , and that made them seem defective . Even the Canon customer service representative concluded they were defective . Then I bought a fourth one from a second store , and theirs , unbeknownst to me , had the serial number ripped off the box and the camera . I must say this has been a very bad time-consuming too much time for purchasing what is otherwise a good little camera . My trust in Canon has been shaken . I am in the process of demanding Canon to provide me with a Serial Number and appropriate stickers . This sort of thing should not happen .
    • 242 4  I bought this for my daughter to take pictures on vacation . It works great for that purpose . The pictures are very clear and detailed indoors and out . My only complaint with this camera is that if you take a vertical picture , it doesn't know that's what you did , so you have to turn the camera sideways to view it properly and do the rotation in your photo management software too .

  • 015 4  This camera was taking decent pictures for a couple months and change , until about a week ago . Ordered April 11 , 2009 . Now it's July 6 , 2009 , and the mechanism that open & closes the lens , and also allows you to zoom has basically FAILED . It makes a clicking sound as it's trying to grab whatever it can to open & close it . The zoom has completely failed . The camera LCD reads , Lens Error , Restart Camera . This seems to be a noted problem , already , in the amazon.com reviews . Some are also saying that Canon is NOT admitting that there is a mechanical problem with the the lens motor of this A480 , and are denying responsibility . Maybe they'll tell me I dropped it , or got sand in it . We'll see . Though it is still under warranty , we will have to pay to ship & insure it back to Elk Grove Village , IL . There are NO LOCAL service centers . We paid $129 on Amazon , so some might say you get what you pay for . My suggestion would be to say that if manufacturers can not offer a budget digital camera that is sturdy enough to last for a couple years . . . . then don't offer one . I will update this review when I get they Canon deals with the repair .
    • 141 4  This was purchased as a gift . Reports are that it is an excellent buy for the $ ' s I paid at Amazon .
    • 239 4  Lens Error one day after I received camera . Pictures and video were good for a point and shoot until the lens seized while extended . Returning tomorrow .

  • 038 4  Bought two of these as gifts for two young nieces . Surprisingly good picture quality for such a reasonably priced point and shoot . Only downside would be that the body of the camera is quite thick and it would be difficult to pocket .

    • 045 4  Reason for the review is to document the failure of the lens mechanism . Have owned this for less than 12 months . Three months ago , noticed that the mechanism developed a grating sound . It still works but sometimes I have to manually assist the lens open and close . Ridiculous . I treated this camera , like I do my other electronics , well . It goes into a case when it's not being used . I was disappointed since I trust the Canon brand .
      • 117 4  I love Canon cameras and for the price this one perfect . This is an extra digital camera for our family , for the beach and one to always have with us when we travel around . It so easy to use , has features that are useful for the more experienced picture taker but an auto for those who prefer to just point and shoot . The pictures are wonderful and I'd recommend this for any experienced or first time digital camera user .
      • 150 4  It is obvious that the more you spend on a Canon the better the camera will be over all . But the quality of pictures and video it will always be great from any Canon camera . You just have some limitations in features on it , like my wife Canon is much more expensive but the more fetures and ease of use it becomes but the price I love this camera . It is awesome ! Oh and the price is unreal !

    • 083 4  My sister in law got this camera first . The first time she asked me to take a picture of her , I knew I had to have one too . It's very easy to use and the picture quality is amazing . It has many different functions , including a 2 and 10 second timer , and the ability to automatically take three pics in a row ( on a timer ) . It's also compatible with sdhc cards . There's only two cons as far as I can tell . One , before you take the picture and you're looking at the lcd screen , it's a little fuzzy . But it always shows a clear picture afterwards . And two , the flash takes a while to recharge , like 5 - 10 seconds . Other than that , it's simply a great camera . I didn't get mine from Amazon though . I got it from Walmart because it was a little cheaper there .
      • 097 4  I got this camera for my girlfriend . She is not tech savy but we went through it together and this camera allows her to take nice pictures in most conditions without too much trouble .
      • 103 4  It is a bit smaller than I would like , but is ideal for the gift I chose it to provide . Fits neatly in a pocket , yet provides remarkable features for either point and shoot or adjustment for custom photos . I like it .
      • 107 4  I like this camera far better than previous ones . except when using flash , picture is delayed a few seconds but its okay . its easy to use and it snaps great looking pictures . I cant get over how easy it is to use . . .
      • 111 4  Well reviewed , great little camera at the best price around on Amazon . I wanted a camera that would produce great pictures , be small and easy to use , and also be relatively durable for a child . This is the one that all my research pointed me to . So far we have not been disappointed .
      • 120 4  I bought this for a trip to San Francisco . It worked like a dream . I have no problems with the camera except that I wished the batteries would last longer . However , I was informed that 200 + shots is pretty good for a camera before needing to switch batteries . Other than the batteries , this camera works great . Excellent quality and easy to use .
      • 125 4  This was a gift for my daughter so I haven't personally used it , but when I spoke to her about it , she simply said she loved it and that it did everything she needed it to do . She also liked the red color .
      • 127 4  I don't own this camera . I bought it for a friend as a gift . She was able to take some pretty good photos with it , but after only 10 days , the lens faltered and failed to retract and now we have to get it fixed . Hopefully , this is uncommon , but it's something you as a future buyer might want to know .
      • 128 4  I liked this camera very much , especially the night mode without flash picture . It will take clear snap for long distance in night . I will recommend it to my friends
      • 143 4  When my sony started to eat batteries , I started to look for a replacement . Good price , good size , and works great . Very pleased .
      • 156 4  This is a great little camera when you want the ease of point and shoot . It has most of the features of cameras costing much more and the Amazon price is the best I found .
      • 180 4  I purchased this for a trip to Vegas and it was great ! Great pictures , and it's small enough to fit in a tiny purse .
      • 184 4  Excellent camera . Exactly what I thought it would be and very easy to use . Did not want a complicated camera and this is exactly what I was looking for . Takes great picture , clear and sharp .
      • 233 4  Great camera except mine eats batteries . 30 - 35 photos and it says to replace batteries . The alkaline batteries , ( normally 1.5 volts ) test at 1.47 volts when it says to replace them . The dead batteries worked in a flashlight for 4 hours before I shut the flashlight off . It reccomends NiMH batteries for longer shooting time . NiMH batteries are 1.4 volts . They probably won't even work in this camera . I took the camera to the CANON service center . I'm hoping they tell me there is something wrong and repairable . Otherwise I could spend more in batteries in a year than I spent on the camera .
      • 245 4  The camera took a long time to arrive , when it did I was dissapointed . It's bulky and I didn't realize that it needed batteries . I returned it and got the sd1100 instead . It has the plug to charge it on the wall it's thin and hold lots of video time . It was worth the extra 20 dollars .

    • 133 4  If you're buying a camera in the $100 range don't expect fantastic pictures . For the price of this Canon A480 it does a fine job . The camera will be good enough for general use for the average consumer . If you want really great pictures you will need something like a Nikon D3000 with a starting $500 price range . I know most people won't carry around a big camera like this to take pictures of the kids at the zoo . . It's easy for a Woman to throw in her purse and snap snap you are good you will get decent quality photos . This is more of a family camera or a good camera for someone not wanting to spend much money and still wanting decent pictures . It has pretty basic features but everything you will need , the battery life isn't great so I recommend getting a recharge unit and some rechargable batteries for around $15 to $20 it will save you in the long run . It has a camcorder built in that does a really good job for a cheap camera and the sound it records is really good . This very well could be the best camera in this price range . I find it to take slightly better photos than the Nikon coolpix s220 which cost just a little more . I suggest getting a 4gig memory card the one it comes with won't hold but like 10 pics the 4gig will hold a 1000 + photos , get yourself a case to . Bottom line if you are looking for a camera in the $100 range this would be the one I would get .
      • 011 4  I have several more expensive Canon cameras and bought this one for a student . I ran it through its paces first , and came away with a very favorable impression for a 10MP camera that sells for barely over $100 . It is very easy to use and the picture quality is excellent . I like that it uses AA batteries which are easy to find anywhere . In addition to its standard automatic mode it has several options for custom modes . It has the normal macro setting for close-ups , but it has even another mode for very extreme close-ups which I find handy . It also records good video with sound , and you can play it back in various slow motion speeds if you want , in the camera or on a big screen TV . All in all I give it very high marks and especially for its price range . Its only disadvantage I could find is it is just a bit thicker than other small pocket cameras .
      • 016 4  Like the AA batteries and size of camera , however , first day on a 2 week trip to Italy my camera lens would not retract when I shut the camera off . Made a terrible clunky sound and eventually I learned how to manually twist the lens so it would shut off and close ! I guess you get what you pay for , but I am going to see if someone will fix it since I only had the camera a few weeks !
      • 056 4  I bought this camera for my 10 year old niece . She absolutely loves the camera . She especially likes shooting videos . The video works with ease the camera does have a speaker . Picture quality is as good as any I have seen . It is fun to get her perspective of life through photos . I have a older camera , and hers is probably better than mine , plus it was $200 bucks cheaper . I don't think you will find a better deal . I have no negative comments for this camera . It is really small , will easily fit in an adults pocket . If you would like your kid to capture moments in their life this is the one . It's just a complete bargain .
      • 061 4  Got it for my 14yr old , so far so good , good pics for the type camera , but wish it had the ion battery instead of AA's
      • 183 4  I purchased this camera for a quick trip out west and wanted to be able to stick it in my pocket without bulkiness of my regular digital . The quality of pictures , the ease of use and costing under $100 make the Power Shot A480 a winner ! A full 10 MP , not much bigger than credit card and easy to download to my computer . Buyting any other compact digital just wouldn't make any sense !

    • 137 4  I'm used to using my Canon SLR and love the results , but I wanted a camera I could toss in my purse and take with me wherever w / out lugging my slr around my neck or in a bag . I have always been a canon fan , and prior to my SLR I had a powershot and love it ! This one falls short of ' loving it ' by a mile . It takes a LONG time for the flash to ' recharge ' and the autofocus is slow . It shoots okay pics but does tend to e a bit grainy-looking but then I haven't really taken it out of the house in natural light or done much else other than indoor photos ( son's bday ) , but I'm not exactly impressed with this particular point and shoot . . . now it may be an improvement from the powershot I had before , but it's been 3 or 4 years since I upgraded to the S3 IS and then the SLR so I'd have to search archived photos and compare . I do like the features it has - those are kinda neat and I'm looking forward to playing around and seeing what it can do . I guess with this camera being just a little over $100 , you get what you pay for . Luckily my daughter ( who is 10 ) has been wanting a dig . camera , so I'll probably just box this one up and let her have it for Christmas . I'll go buy the SX10 IS - I think it's more what I'm looking for , even though it isn't as small it is definately not as heavy and I LOVED the S3IS I used to have with awesome results - I'm sure that one won't disappoint me !
      • 129 4  VERY SLOW operation . Crappy video quality . bad image quality in low-light . And I'm not talking night , just low room light . Charges the flash frequently causing you to miss-the-moment Was snapping some pics of the kids in the snow and the thing locked up on me and shut off . Canon makes some greate cameras , but don't buy this camera !
      • 135 4  over all features are great . also nice having battery power so if yer in the desert or forest you can swap batteries and not be stuck with a plug-in / re-charge . picture is good , even better if you are fimilar with settings . and speaking of which , all the setting are accessible with the flick of a switch . setting ISO , flash and even timer settings is quick an painless . for its price , A + . way to go canon

    • 152 4  I bought this camera for my 11 - year old daughter . This is her third camera and she is extremely responsible . We had to replace the batteries excessively . She had to change the batteries 3 x to take only 50 photos . ( I bought all the batteries new , bought them in 3 different packs in 3 different states , so I was using the same faulty batteries . ) I called Canon and they said they had had this problem before and to send it in . They returned in within a week and a half , and said there was no problem and that I should just buy the Canon rechargeable battery pack ( $40 on Amazon ) . I've now owned 4 Canon cameras , which I like ( obviously , I keep buying more ) , and this is the first one that I have had that used regular batteries as opposed to the Canon battery packs . I wanted one that used regular batteries because if you have ever misplaced your Canon battery recharger , those usually run about $50 . I thought it would be more convenient but clearly , in this case , the regular battery option was not to be and I am back to spending $40 on Canon rechargeable batteries and a battery charger pack . SO , if you think you are buying this for convenience of buying your batteries at the grocery or convenience store , think again . You may be better off just buying a camera that comes with the battery pack and recharger OR add $40 to the price of this and buy the rechargeable battery kit ( Canon kit CBK4 - 300 ) . I was disappointed with the camera and the service ( since they said they knew of the problem and to send it in , then they did not do anything about it ) . I do like how easy the Canon software is to use ( which is one reason why I continue to buy Canon ) when photos are downloaded .
      • 008 4  I am very happy with the picture quality produced by this camera . I've taken about 100 pictures so far and only a few have been less than perfect . I like to print 8 x 10 ' s of my children who are 6 and 3 years old ( this age group is not known for sitting still ) . I can easily get crystal clear quality in an 8 x 10 of almost any picture I've taken so far .
      • 036 4  This is my first digital camera . I bought it based on the reviews on Amazon.com . I'm used to using manual SLRs so this was a change . The camera is really good for the price . Easy to use . Not super big . Decent quality pictures even in low light . I like the macro function . The pictures look a lot better on my computer than the LCD camera screen . I've only had it a month or 2 and no problems at all .
      • 105 4  I've always been pleased with Canon products and this camera is no exception . Even though it is a low end camera ( price-wise ) the pictures are great . Isn't that what a camera is about ?
      • 243 4  I've had Canon ELPH / Powershot cameras for years , and have loved every one . This is the first exception . The flash has to charge between each photo , ( what is this ? a disposable ? ) , a lot of the pictures are blurry , and the feel of the camera is clunky and plastic . There's no video , which at this point I sort of assume would be the case on all of these types of cameras . For an extra $50 , the 1200 is in a totally different league . I'm still a big fan of Canon , but they've totally dropped the ball on this one .

    • 176 4  This camera has been a great starter camera for my 13 year old daughter - - - Makes outstanding photos , very easy to use , easy to handle . Go Canon !
      • 029 4  Found the camera very simple to operate and took a nice picture.the size was great , very small and easy to carry in my purse .
      • 058 4  This camera is so easy to use ; takes great pictures even in low light ; so simple to upload pictures .
      • 076 4  Nice Camera for the money , easy to use , takes great pics . Glad I bought it .
      • 089 4  Great product . Wonderful pictures , and easy to use . Nice size and handles great !
      • 121 4  This is a nice cam has all the features and has great value for money .
      • 187 4  Nice little camera . Good for taking on trips . Takes good pictures and seems easy enough to use . Only takes two batteries at a time , nice .

    • 182 4  I love this camera . The only drawback which I am realizing now is that I should have taken more care to protect the screen because it has a couple of scratches on it , but the picture quality is excellent . it is easy to use , the batteries last a really long time and I will definitely buy another one when this one wears out .
      • 073 4  Just got this camera and it has been great . Good pics and movies , easy to figure out , very nice . Not too thin , but for the price , it is not a problem . For the money , it is perfect for what I need ! I use it during my work almost every day . So far , so good !
      • 154 4  I am very pleased with my new camera . So easy to use and great snapshots even when little ones are on the move I get a sharp picture .
      • 172 4  I just got my camera and so far I love it . The only thing I would have to say is that the recycle time is a little slow , so it wouldn't be good if you had to take a lot of rapid shots . But I dont so its perfect for what I need .

    • 193 4  After receiving the camera I almost sent it back because I was so disappointed in the quality of the pictures . It doesn't have Image Stabilization and believe me you can tell . I knew that it didn't have IS when I bought it but I chose to listen to the reviews that said it took great pictures instead of those who said it had poor quality photos . That is my fault and it will never happen again . The up side is that it can take some great normal everyday pictures . They come out clear and the camera is very easy to use . If you are trying to take special pictures though , like football games at night , then forget it . All my pictures I have taken have been blurry no matter how I try to set the camera or using a tripod . If you don't zoom at all you can get some good pics but any zoom at all and the pics will make you nauseous . Because I have another camera to use for the night time action photos I have been able to make this one work for me which is why I didn't send it back . I can't express enough though not to waste your money on a camera that doesn't have some type of Image or Picture Stabilization on it . You're wasting your money if you do !
      • 214 4  This is an entry-level and amateur camera that produces excellent photographs , and has multiple scene-settings . It doesn't have some convenient features of more expensive cameras , including rechargeable batteries and , particularly , IS . But I use it casually , and I'm very pleased with it .

    • 194 4  Overall very pleased with the product . Still learning to use it . Very impressed with the quality of the pictures . Recently traveled to Vancouver and the pictures taken from this trip were wonderful . I did have a problem recently with the flash not going off properly but this may have been due to the lighting in the area I was taking pictures . I do like the smallness of the camera . I am planning a cruise and will be carrying the Cannon Powershot on this trip and look forward to taking many great pictures .
      • 009 4  This is a great big camera in a little package . I already have a Canon Power Shot but it was big and bulky so I was looking for something smaller that I could carry in my pocket , but I didn't want to sacrifice quality . This camera take wonderful pictures , and still has the video capability that I loved in my other Power Shot . Canon always makes a great camera , I definitely recommend this item !
      • 059 4  This camera is perfect for my needs . I wanted a small , easy-to-use camera that would produce good quality pictures . This one does the trick at a very reasonable price .
      • 063 4  This a excelent camera compare with your price , good picture quality , easy portability and good batery life , only I would like that was more rapid .
      • 080 4  This Canon Powershot series is really easy to use . I like the portability factor and the fact I got a great deal on a great camera ! ! !
      • 099 4  Great affordable 10 mp digitalcamera ! Easy to setup and use great software . Very sastified with this camera
      • 178 4  I bought this camera for my twelve year-old daughter . For the price , it has so many great features ! She had no problems learning how to operate the camera . She is really enjoying it and loves the blue color . I noticed that the viewscreen on this camera is very clear and a nice size . I plan to purchase another for myself , as my current six year-old Canon digital camera is much bigger , heavier , lacking in features , and has a smaller viewscreen .

    • 209 4  So far so good . This replaces my Konica / Minolta that I paid a lot of money for about 7 years ago . I didn't use it all that much , just took on a few vacations and for the last year it wouldn't hold a charge of the batteries . Took it in and was told - can't get parts . . . buy a Canon . And I did . But this time I wanted a simple little shooter that was light weight and simply took pictures without a lot of bells and whistles . Am hoping the Canon reputation holds up ! If you want a simple camera that seems to capture the subject pretty well , then this is the camera for you . Not sure about the battery life yet , but one plus is it takes regular as well as rechargeable batteries .
      • 069 4  very inexpensive canon that does what it says it will do . build quality seems to be good enough to last a few years if well taken care of . i bought five for a construction company and have had no problems as of yet .
      • 078 4  If you are looking for a lower price , nice little camera , this is a good one to get . I have long been a Canon fan and when we had to have a camera for work , this was the best one for the price . And the Navy blue color is a nice change from the standard silver colors .
      • 174 4  Good , basic camera , purchased for our construction field staff , with varying levels of technical ability . Seems to be an all around good camera , with basic easy to use fucntions . Perfect for our needs .

    • 211 4  I am a real estate agent so I have been through a lot of point and shoot cameras . While I use a Rebel SLR to take my main pics , I chose this one to take anywhere since it's small enough to pack and forget . The price is right , the quality is great , and it's easy to use . Very intuitive . It is also easy to download pics to a computer . Actually this is my 2nd one . My kids dropped the first one and the zoom motor was broken , frozen in place . I can't really blame the camera given that they dropped it from pretty high onto a hard tile floor . I figured that my shipping , return , hassle , etc . would cost more than the camera so I just immediately ordered a new one . That's why I didn't give it 5 stars . But still , at this price , it can't be beat , in my opinion .
      • 032 4  I bought this product for us to take on vacation to Busch Gardens and loved it . Even though my two little ones could not stay still I got clear , great pictures of them .
      • 074 4  I bought this camera through amazon from 6 avenue . They were prompt with a response from a question I had and were great about shipping details . I would purchase from them again anytime .
      • 087 4  I used this camera to take several great photos at our local quilt show . Very good flash coverage .
      • 162 4  I like this camera plus that fact I got it in my favorite color BLUE . . . . I only find one thing I do NOT like . My last canon had a zoom in lens to 23X , this camera is only 13X . While that is good , I would rather focus a little closer . I recommend this for daily use . I am never without my camera . This is light and easily portable . Anyone who gets this will be happy about it .
      • 185 4  Bought this for my daughter . The recycle time for the flash is longer than I would like but for the price , it's a great camera .
      • 200 4  Very pleased with the camera . There is just one thing that has a concern with me and that is that I have adjusted all the sounds that I can on the camera but I have never heard the 2 beeps when you push the shutter 1 / 2 way done to let you know that the picture is in focus .
      • 213 4  Beautiful litle camera & has all the bells & whistles that a beginner like me would use . I'm going on a cruise this month & needed a camera for the trip . Will know more when I get back .

    • 224 4  I purchased this in Japan in great haste because my much better Panasonic TZ4 was stolen . It has some limitations but it was , under the circumstances , a reasonable last minute substitute for the stolen camera and it used the SD flash memory used in the TZ4 - - and it was much cheaper than the Japanese version of the TZ4 ( labelled the TZ7 which doesn't seem to be marketed in the US ) . The lack of image stabilization meant that a few pictures went awry - - a few more than I would have expected with the TZ4 . I missed the 28mm wide angle of the TZ4 occasionally and , on a few occasions , the 280 mm telephoto . But it is 10mp and I can blow up some shots where the 280 telephoto would have been useful . In all I took over 1700 pictures and most turned out OK . The batteries ( I'm not entirely sure they were alkaline - - they had Japanese labels ) lasted about 200 shots plus or minus , but I turned it on and off with great frequency - - perhaps 850 times for 1700 shots ( which , possibly , drains the battery a great deal ? ) . As a main camera I'd still go with the Panasonic TZ series but the TZ4 costs more than twice what this costs on Amazon.com . For occasional use , especially in situations where one can take time to compose and hold the camera steady , it seems to be a good camera at a low price .
      • 159 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Perfect photos , acceptable videos and LCD , easy usage , acceptable size and weight . It might be as well to be icons on function buttons more understandable. For example : OK text on the button is more understandable than Func set text , on the zoom In / Out buttons it would be better to set icons like magnifier with + / - symbols than strange big tree / small trees . Conclusion : As a matter of fact I'm satisfied .

    • Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) I've just had this nice Canon A480 camera 3 days . I bought it in exchange , returning a more expensive $200.00 canon model . With the $200.00 Canon model , too many adjustments were necessary before snapping the simplest picture which made mad . But this A480 has very few function buttons which makes it easy to operate . Of course it has setting functions for the more fussy photographer . But if you just want a picture to capture a moment , you can practically point & shoot . Good pictures outdoors and it takes REALLY GOOD FLASH SHOTS INDOORS AT NIGHTIME , which is most important to me for taking pictures in nightclubs . I HAVE ONE WARNING ABOUT THIS CAMERA WHEN IT COMES TO INDOOR PHOTOS . To avoid blurry indoor photos in places where the lighting is subdued , push the shutter halfway down first to allow the camera to auto focus first . You will see the little square narrow down on the LCD screen and then the camera will beep . Once it beeps then you can now press the shutter all the way down to snap the picture . THE INSTRUCTIONS TELL YOU TO DO THIS , AND BELIEVE ME , IT IS IMPORTANT FOR INDOOR PHOTOS . If you dont do this , some of your indoor photos may come out a tad blurry . Most of the time the auto focus function works very well outdoors on it's own by just snapping the picture . But indoors , pushing the shutter halfway to auto-focus first is a must to avoid blurry photos . INSTRUCTION BOOKLET : The paper instruction booklet that is enclosed with the camera gives only short summarized instructions . If you want to read the helpful detailed intructions that will really help you to understand this camera , you will have to insert the CD into your computer and download the 114 paged booklet . June 22 , 2010 : Update : I've had this camera for 6 months now . It's still a very nice camera . Outdoors , it is the greatest . Just point & shoot , and the photo is perfect . However , for indoor photos , it is still important that you press the shutter halfway first so the camera can auto-adjust it's settings . Otherwise your indoor photos may come out a tad blurry . Setting the camera indoors for ' night ' funtion helps too .

      • 039 4  This product satisfied me a lot . I bought it for a friend and this will be his first digital camera so , I insisted on being SIMPLE . Secondly , the name CANON is really trusted so , I didn't believe that it is for that price . When I tried it , I was really pleased . It feels good in your palm because it is compact enough . It is fast enough and the picture quality is really nice . For the video quality , it is really good too and you can zoom during the video . I really appreciate this feature . TO SUM UP IF YOU WANT A GOOD PICTURE AND VIDEO QUALITY WITH SMALL SIZE AND PRICE GO FOR THIS PRODUCT . PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU WANT A MORE DEVELOPED CANON CAMERA GO FOR THE SD1200 AND DO NOT BUY THE A1100 BECAUSE IT IS THE SAME LIKE THE A480 . I COMPARED IT MYSELF .

    • Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I realize that other sites mention this model does NOT in fact have image stabilization . ( and A470 , A490 , A490 don't either , by the way ) . But the Amazon.com text description of the A480 - as of 3 / 27 / 2010 says : . . . and an advanced Optical Image Stabilizer . . . so it's possible some bought this camera based on that piece of text . For those posting negative comments about others who've complained about blurry pictures , check the description again , it might have been false expectations and not their fault . You could argue that someone at Canon took the A590IS or some other Canon camera description * with * image stabilization and cut-and-pasted it for the A480 and made an honest mistake . It happens all the time . It happened on the Sharp TV I bought off Amazon ( 4ms vs 6ms response time ) . I knew up-front this camera didn't have image stabilization and bought it anyway on price . The LCD does show the red camera shake in low-light and the user should know this means the picture is more likely to be blurry in these cases . Buyer beware . Now , to the review . I have several Canon's - A520 , A590IS , A470 - as well as a Pentax k-x SLR and a Fuji E900 - so it's on this experience that I base my review . Pros : - It's cheap and like most Canon's - it's great on batteries . - AA batteries always a plus for on-the-go - Decent video in medium to good light conditions - Pictures good in good light . ( 10MP setting used ) Cons : - Cheaply made . Too light . Seems like it would be easy to break if dropped . - low-light pictures aren't great . Move out of the A470,480,490 models into something else if your indoor picture taking is low to very low light . - Weak documentation in this beginners camera ( just a slim user guide ) Had trouble putting it in MACRO mode , for instance . Nothing on the CD that's useful ( a PDF of the same printed users guide ) I think Canon makes some good entry-level cameras for around $100 - 125 . But , to get the best value , if you can , buy at the time of the year when they're heavily discounted . ( I think November and sometimes February ) . Then you may get a GREAT camera ( like the A590IS ) for only $40 more than what I paid for the A480 at a bad buying time ( because of a birthday ) . I think the $150 range ( bought at the right time ) gets you a lot more camera for the money . By the way , I bought the Canon PowerShot A590IS 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom - a far superior camera - for $110 on December 8th , 2009 . . . about what the A480 retails for now . . . and you can't even compare the build quality . The A590IS has the bulk of the old A520 ( 4MP ) - back when Canon made cameras you could throw against the wall . . .
      • 003 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I just received my camera today and I was impressed . It's so tiny and has so much in the way of capabilities . All I wanted it for was to take pictures of restaurants when I eat out ( for Yelp ) . Without adjusting the white balance or anything , every picture has been pefect . I have three other Canon cameras : a G2 which cost me about $800 when new , a D60 , and a 20D . All of them are too large to lug around with me , while the A480 goes in my shirt pocket . I uploaded some pictures , take a look .
      • 010 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I have several more expensive Canon cameras and bought this one for a student .
      • 012 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Very nice , inexpensive camera .

It does take a long time to recharge the batteries , even with recommended batteries , but its now got a Lens Error every time I try to use it . SO far Canon refuses to take it back even though it's within the year warranty . I think it's defective . They think I broke it . I was only able to use it for 5 months and I've been very careful with it . I'm going back to my Kodaks .
      • 021 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) . .

      • 044 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) Reason for the review is to document the failure of the lens mechanism .
      • 049 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) After 3 weeks of playing around with the settings , upgrading to photo lithium batteries , using a better memory card , etc . , I finally sent the camera back .

      • 081 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) I love this camera and never go anywhere without it .

      • 092 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) This is a great camera for the price !

Even though it is a low end camera ( price-wise ) the pictures are great . Isn't that what a camera is about ?
      • 112 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) Easy to use , very good battery life , Pictures are true to color . Red or blue looks very nice . 1 to 2 secs between shots , with flash on 4 to 6 secs , start up time is 1.5 to 2 secs . I use 2 aa energizer lithium batterys or 2650 to 2900mah rechargable batterys and can get 600 pictures . A 2 gig sd card san disk ultra II or III will give you about 750 pictures . The lcd screen is not the greatest but not bad for the price , it just will not show you how good your pictures really are . This camera does not have optical image stabilzertion but still does very well with out it . I bought a red one for 6 year old granddaughter and the blue for my 4 year grandson and they use them every day . I also use them because of thier great pictures .

      • 130 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This camera has the same image processor as the other point and shoots from Canon .
      • 132 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) If you're buying a camera in the $100 range don't expect fantastic pictures .
      • 138 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Silver ) ( Electronics ) My kids have had different brands of digital cameras but I couldn't pass up the price on this Canon PowerShot for & 79.00 ! ! I'm a first time user and didn't want too many bells and whistles but did want quality and ease of use . I got all that and then some ! ! My girls are jealous and want to use it now . The 3.3 Optical Zoom does more then I thought it would , taking great shots from 2 - 3 acres away of a beautiful Crane in our field . You could hardly see it well with the naked eye but you could make it out great in the shots I took . Also the first Robin this spring came out so clear and bright . You don't need to wait long in between flashes and it's very easy to use and being Canon , it's quality through and through . The only people who would leave a bad review either received a defective one or in need of an expensive SLR , cause this camera has it all for every need in simple picture taking ! For occasions , trips , weddings , birthdays , holidays , parties , indoors , outdoors , action or still shots for selling items . . . . and the list goes on . How i got it for $79.00 is a mystery since it changed to that price in my cart from $99 for only a week or so . And the A490 ( newer version ) isn't any better I see so Thanks Again Amazon ! !

      • 144 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I've had this camera for 3 children's birthday parties . The pictures are very good , some could be even better if I was better at using it . Very detailed pictures with great quality when I really take my time and all conditions are good . I'm anxious to spend more time learning all the things it can do . Would be nice if it was a little more compact . Also , when you take a picture it only stays in view about 2 seconds before the screen goes blank . It would be nice to have a longer time to take a look at your shot without having to go into review .
      • 151 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) I bought this camera for my 11 - year old daughter .
      • 165 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) This camera was a Christmas gift to my son and daughter-in-law .

      • 199 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Silver ) ( Electronics ) Very pleased with the camera . There is just one thing that has a concern with me and that is that I have adjusted all the sounds that I can on the camera but I have never heard the 2 beeps when you push the shutter 1 / 2 way done to let you know that the picture is in focus .
      • 201 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Not having to charge batteries and getting that picture quality and for around $ [ . . . ] bucks , a great product
      • 218 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I think it fails in several aspects . Lacking stability control there's no way you can take even a mildly decent picture if you or your subject move the slightest . The functions were cumbersome ; evening pictures on the auto setting were poor , so you have to stop to reset the ISO ; and the shutter control was too slow . Picture quality was ok at best . I ended up returning it after two days of frustration and disappointment . All in all I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending this camera . Given the ' Canon ' reputation , I was really disappointed in this model . For about $85 more , I ended up getting the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 8x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7 - Inch LCD and I'm very impressed with it .
      • 223 4  I expected the same quality as the previous model A470 , but this model , A480 is hard to change the focus modes . Only modes came out with the initial setting was Auto and Video mode . What a disappointment ! Last April I ordered Canon PowerShot A470 . It's easy to change the focus modes from Manual to Auto , Portrait , Night Light , Kids & Pets , Indoor , Sunset , Foliage , Beach , Snow , and Video by pressing Functio / Set button . I love this older model A470 , but lately the shutter jams from time to time . I returned this model A480 yesterday and ordered Canon PowerShot A1100IS model today instead . There might be a way to change the focus modes with A480 , but it was not explained in it's manual also .

Snap shots and movies are good quality . Sound ( movie mode ) sound a bit tinny and distant - - this is to be expected . Menus are clear and orderly after 2 passes through them . Battery life . . . . . . Buy a set of rechargeables ( I would say that about any of these types of cameras - they are all battery suckers due to the big video display ) Zoom is acceptable until the digital kicks in then it starts to look like a cell phone photo . So far , it has been a sturdy little camera at a reasonable price .

    • Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) We bought this camera from amazon as an almost first camera for our 3 year old daughter ( her first camera , an Argus Bean , spontaneously quit working after 90 days ) .
      • 017 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Just a quick note about this handy little camera .
      • 026 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) For what I paid , this is a great snapshot camera .

Surprisingly good picture quality for such a reasonably priced point and shoot . Only downside would be that the body of the camera is quite thick and it would be difficult to pocket .
      • 040 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) We've had three other Cannon cameras .
      • 042 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Silver ) ( Electronics ) I was looking for a gift for my grand daughter's 4th birthday . I looked at all the reviews for the childrens digitals . Every single review said picture quality was not good . I knew she wouldn't be happy with that . So I started looking for a reasonably priced adult camera . She can't read and she doesn't even recognize all the letters of the alphabet , but she could use every feature the camera had within one hour of opening the gift . It's really easy to use and when it comes to technology , USER FRIENDLY is the highest praise I can give . She loves it and it takes great pictures . It was also in the same price range as the kiddie cameras I looked at .
      • 046 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I love Canon .

      • 055 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) I bought this camera for my 10 year old niece .

      • 064 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) The PowerShot A480 produces attractive photos that are sharp and colorful . However , 128 pages of instructions do not exactly make it the point and shoot camera that my wife wanted . There are features that she will never use , but she will like the camera when she figures out the basic functions she wants .
      • 066 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I have used and owned probably well over 15 lower cost point and shoot cameras between home and work .

      • 090 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) this is a pretty good camera for the price . . . i initially had another canon that cost about the same but had horrible photo quality for indoor shots . this one is much better in low indoor / low-light settings and is very crisp in outdoor settings . the macro setting also isn't horrible , and considering the price , is very good .
      • 094 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) Love my newest gadget , wish the manual instructions was on hard copy instead of the CD as I now have to print the whole thing to really sit down and get a good read . Camera works well , have taken over 200 pictures already and the different features are wonderful for the different occasions . Thanks a Million
      • 100 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I got this camera for my 6 year old son , who has been wanting his own camera ( having borrowed my point-and-shoot enough now ) .
      • 102 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) It is a bit smaller than I would like , but is ideal for the gift I chose it to provide . Fits neatly in a pocket , yet provides remarkable features for either point and shoot or adjustment for custom photos . I like it .

I cant get over how easy it is to use . . .
      • 108 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I love this camera .
      • 110 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Well reviewed , great little camera at the best price around on Amazon . I wanted a camera that would produce great pictures , be small and easy to use , and also be relatively durable for a child . This is the one that all my research pointed me to . So far we have not been disappointed .
      • 114 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this camera was for me to use , I took several little videos and posted them right away for my kids , I took them of myself , and of my cat , they came out beautifully , The pictures I took were of myself also for account pics at facebook , I just love the camera , haven't had to change batteries yet either , have been using it for a couple of weeks now , also took some video of a ftreworks dispaly one night , beautiful color , and good sound ! I am making a video diary of my move back to my home town , I am very pleasantly surprised as I am electronically challenged .

      • 126 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) I don't own this camera . I bought it for a friend as a gift . She was able to take some pretty good photos with it , but after only 10 days , the lens faltered and failed to retract and now we have to get it fixed . Hopefully , this is uncommon , but it's something you as a future buyer might want to know .
      • 139 4  My kids have had different brands of digital cameras but I couldn't pass up the price on this Canon PowerShot for & 79.00 ! !

      • 147 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) We researched buying a camera and this one was the one at the price offered that gave me all the features I wanted - size of screen , sight and shoot , a little video time , number of pictures stored , functions . I am going to purchase the 2GB memory card and a bigger battery as soon as I become more familiar with the use of this one and use up the capacity .
      • 149 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) It is obvious that the more you spend on a Canon the better the camera will be over all . But the quality of pictures and video it will always be great from any Canon camera . You just have some limitations in features on it , like my wife Canon is much more expensive but the more fetures and ease of use it becomes but the price I love this camera . It is awesome ! Oh and the price is unreal !

      • 161 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) I like this camera plus that fact I got it in my favorite color BLUE . . . . I only find one thing I do NOT like . My last canon had a zoom in lens to 23X , this camera is only 13X . While that is good , I would rather focus a little closer . I recommend this for daily use . I am never without my camera . This is light and easily portable . Anyone who gets this will be happy about it .
      • 163 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I was looking for a camera to purchase for my 9 year old daughter .

I returned it for a Canon Powershot SD1200IS instead , paid a little more ( luckily found a nearly new one for $125 ) , but well worth it . If form factor isn't a big deal to you , this is a nice camera for the price .
      • 169 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) this is a solid quality budget camera . For under $100 , you get a camera that takes high-resolution ( 10megapixels ) photos . Response time is however slow as it takes many seconds to recharge the flash and be ready for the next shot . There is no view finder other than the LCD screen . However , back to my previous point , this is a basic low-budget camera so you would need to manage your expectations . You get great pictures , easy of use , and not a lot of bells and whistles .

The only drawback which I am realizing now is that I should have taken more care to protect the screen because it has a couple of scratches on it , but the picture quality is excellent . it is easy to use , the batteries last a really long time and I will definitely buy another one when this one wears out .

      • 190 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) The picture quality is excellent in day time and at night with the flash .
      • 192 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) After receiving the camera I almost sent it back because I was so disappointed in the quality of the pictures .
      • 195 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Bought this as a gift and got to use it a couple times . I would highly recommend skiping this and getting the SD1100IS instead . Not much difference in price for a smaller , better performing , more durable camera that is just as easy to use . Trust me you will NOT notice the difference from 10MP to 8MP ! If this is your price range - get the slightly older model that is a much more refined product ! ! !
      • 197 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I just returned my A480 to Amazon after less than one month of use .

      • 205 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) pros : Relatively good camera with good features .
      • 208 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) So far so good .
      • 210 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I am a real estate agent so I have been through a lot of point and shoot cameras .
      • 216 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Silver ) ( Electronics ) I bought this camera as a backup for my another ( more expensive ) Canon camera . Picture quality seems worse than the other one , but this one was like one third of its price , so I wouldn't complain . The only clear disadvantage so far is it really drains batteries quickly . Occasionally , a new pack doesn't even last a day .
      • 219 4  I think it fails in several aspects .

      • 222 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) I expected the same quality as the previous model A470 , but this model , A480 is hard to change the focus modes .

      • 228 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) Bought this camera looking for an easy point and shoot that would still take good quality pics - - to offset our larger digital SLR ( just too much of a pain to drag along some times ) . After 4 days of use we are unimpressed . The picture quality is extremely grainy . The charging flash is extremely annoying . And the battery life is poor - - at least compared to other cameras I've had . I'm sending this one back .
      • 230 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Silver ) ( Electronics ) I have gone through four of these cameras trying to get one that works properly .
      • 232 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Great camera except mine eats batteries .
      • 234 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Blue ) ( Electronics ) Decided we would go with the cheaper model since the last one locked up on vacation and , as you know , cameras - no matter what you pay - are disposable items , when something goes wrong , there is no one to fix them , you simply buy a new one .

      • 241 4  This review is from : Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 - inch LCD ( Deep Red ) ( Electronics ) I bought this for my daughter to take pictures on vacation . It works great for that purpose . The pictures are very clear and detailed indoors and out . My only complaint with this camera is that if you take a vertical picture , it doesn't know that's what you did , so you have to turn the camera sideways to view it properly and do the rotation in your photo management software too .
      • 248 4  I am very disappointed with Canon . I just bought Canon Powershot A480 digital camera . Prior to this , I few months ago , I bought Canon all-in-one printer for by business , and Canon disappointed me . The entire product didn't work as I expected . It's fax / phone doesn't work properly . It's scan require computer software to scan . Prior to that , my Canon digital camera malfunctioned which was replaced by PowerShot A520 . Now , that camera's lens cover doesn't open automatically . I have to use my finger to open it . And now , the Canon's ZoomBrowerEX software doesn't work with installing / uninstalling / reinstalling . Is this Powershot A480 will be good camera ? I wouldn't bet on it . This is my last Canon product .
