Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

  • 001 4  The P50G10 is my second HD Plasma experience , the first being a 2004 Panasonic , which still looks and works quite well . It has found another spot in our home to make room for the new G10 in our family room . When searching for and finally selecting the new Panasonic G10 , I was comparing choices against this first experience considering both the manufacturer and the plasma technology . While I have a few smaller sized LCD's , mostly in the 20 - 32 range , I have never been overly impressed with the picture . The seem a bit cartoonish , even in HD mode , so I quickly settled on a plasma as my technology choice . Having made that decision the alternatives in terms of manufacturers narrowed quickly . Wh Pioneer exiting the Plasma business , and considering my experience with my original Panasonic plasma the brand decision was made . Selecting which model from Panasonic boiled down to scouring the 2009 product announcements and available reviews ( CNET ) , and making the trade-offs on size , cost and availability . This all led me to the P50G10 , which was a good fit on all points . I have had the unit installed and working for 4 weeks now , and must say its been an extremely satisfying time . The G10 is a major step up , from my previous plasma , in terms of picture , inputs i.e . 3 HDMI vs 1 , and ability to control each picture setting independently . I have tweaked the picture setting on the Standard and THX settings a bit to sharpen and brighten the picture a bit , but most of the other settings are very good out of the box . As the unit is stand mounted , and in a room with mostly indirect and overhead lighting there are no issues with glare or light reflection , from the main glass or its glossy black bezel . In the process I also moved up to a Panasonic BMP-BD60 ( will write a separate review on it ) Blu Ray player and the 1080P picture is nothing short of amazing . As these are both Panasonic units they inter-operate with VieraLink which simplifies and automates the way the two units operate together , a nice but not essential feature . I setup a Wireless ethernet bridge ( Linksys WET54G ) to feed the VieraCast function on the G10 , and it works flawlessly . At this time the amount of content available is limited , but one can see the potential , if Panasonic can bring more content services to this function . The G10 does employ a set of power consumption controls . There are both Input Idle and In-Activity based auto-power off modes to save on power consumption , which is good as plasma's are a bit power hungry . To be balanced the G10 does have a few shortcomings . The sound from the onboard speakers is a bit thin . You can mitigate this some by pumping up the Bass control and turning on the Bass Boost , but its just not a rich sound experience . I think Panasonic can do better with some higher quality speakers and a small sub-woofer . I , and I suspect most others , have a surround system connected and utilize it for a better sound experience . I also preferred when Panasonic placed the additional inputs into a trap door on the front of the plasma , the G10 has these on the left ( facing ) edge . To me it was more convenient and accessible to have these set of inputs up-front . All in all , the G10 is a high quality Plasma with terrific features and future expandability . If offers a near perfect picture across multiple inputs and types of content .
    • 004 4  After searching for a suitable 1080p replacement for my older 720p Philips plasma , I first tried the massive Samsung PN - 58B550 because it seemed like a great value , but - - and since this isn't a review of that TV I won't go more into other than to say that for all I could do the colors were either flat or the blacks were grey and there was a constant buzz that is common with some plasmas that I just couldn't stomach for such an expensive and supposedly great device - - given its shortcomings , I decided to have a second stab at a replacement . I selected the P50G10 for this and I must say that I am immensely pleased with that decision . I first saw the P50G10 as a display at a local big blue electronics retailer and was instantly drawn to its look , even when powered off ( and this is an important thing to me since most of the time that's how the TV is ) . I powered it on and was impressed at the dark blacks , vivid colors and smooth motion . As I compared it to one of the newest 1080p 240Hz LCDs hanging near it I realized that it was - - even as mucked up as the controls had been - - hands and feet above the other TV in terms of raw performance . One feature I was certain I wanted in my next TV was network connectivity , whether for DLNA or straight internet feeds . The VieraCAST built into this TV is a little lacking in raw ability , but having YouTube , Picasa and weather close at hand is pretty handy ; I'm hoping that the extra slot on the main screen that reads coming soon is filled with Netflix bringing Panasonic's offerings up to the LG & Vizio playing field . Fortunately , the TV is able to use this network connection to apply its updates without having to fiddle with USB drives and finding / downloading the right files . . . a huge time saver . Many reviewers of this TV comment that the THX mode just makes the screen darker , and that is certainly one of the things it does , but in so doing the contrast is also popped to the max and a few other settings really make the colors more lifelike and vivid . I watched Wall-E as the first test of the new TV and I was amazed at how crisp and bright the colors were on THX mode ; they looked great on standard and custom modes , but I felt that the specialized mode was the closest reproduction to when I saw the movie in DLP on the silver screen . The only two complaints I have with the television are both relatively minor ; first , it uses a non-standard power plug which was a bit of a pain for me as I like all of my cables neatly concealed on my TV stand and I've got enough cables running around that it's hard to add / remove them . Second - - because my TV stand actually hangs the TV , I had to be very careful about the positioning of the brackets so I didn't block any of the necessary ports . Panasonic's having chose the 400mm mounting holes as a place to align video and audio connections proved a bit of a challenge and I ultimately had to mount the TV a little lower than I really wanted to be able to make the connections I needed . Overall , I am incredibly impressed with this TV . While it would be great if it were a few inches larger , I have found that for all of its rich features ( internet , THX , great color production , near-silent operation ) this is the best TV I have found , and I'm sure I'll be happy with it for years to come .
    • 008 4  Have had my P50G10 for several days now and could not be more pleased . The color is vibrant and awe inspiring . Prepare to gape . I looked at this Panasonic model and the Pioneer kura side by side and decided on the Panasonic for two reasons 1 ) . Pioneer's expense , and 2 ) . Pioneer getting out of the plasma tv business with no new models . I further saved a bundle by buying from Amazon . Best Buy was $300 more and that's not counting taxes , I made my Panasonic Viera broadband ready and signed on for Amazon Video on Demand . The hook-up was relatively painless . I used a Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model WRT610N and a Linksys Wireless-N Ethernet Bridge with Dual-Band Model WET610N . The Ethernet bridge was used on the tv proper . This can be an expensive system if you do not already have an existing wireless network , but this worked beautifully for me and I am not an IT guy . I highly recommend this plasma tv , you will not be disappointed . If you are an audiophile , you're probably not going to be overly impressed with the sound , but it is fine for me . Now a word about Amazon . I have ordered many items from them in the past and have been very pleased with the experience . There is one exception here . Their choice of shipping companies . They shipped my plasma via a company called , CEVA aka , Eagle Shipping . My experience with them was AWFUL ! I was already apprehensive about ordering such an expensive and fragile instrument over the internet and , CEVA did little to diminish my anguish . They were totally numb and unresponsive to my inquiries , uncooperative , rude and late . To add insult to injury , Amazon is aware of their short comings and choose to ignore it . Case ( s ) in point , see : shipping . There , on Amazon s own website , are myriad examples of unsatisfied customers with CEVA / Eagle . Why then do they elect to continue to use them ? I am afraid I know the answer to that . Amazon does not let shoddy work interfere with a lucrative shipping contract . After all Amazon does not feel the pain and apparently are insensitive to ours . I would encourage you to find out who the shipper of your tv is and see what alternatives you have available to you . Even the bad shipping experience has not diminished my choice of plasma tv's . This one is a keeper !
    • 010 4  Everyone reviews the picture ; we all know it looks almost as good as last year's Pioneer Elite . We all know it uses less power , produces exceptionally accurate color , and looks great in a bright room . What very few people have touched on is the newly-added Amazon VOD feature . All it took was a quick firmware update from Viera Cast . The video quality for HD videos is generally outstanding . I'd put it somewhere in between Comcast's compression and OTA HD . It seems to require somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 - 5mbit ( inconsistent ) downstream to maintain the blue-coded HD connection , so those with puny internet connections obviously need not apply . That being said the videos buffer FAST , the prices are generally cheaper than cable on demand services by a dollar or two , and the selection is really pretty broad . I've owned several HDTVs over the past 7 or so years , starting with the most basic 32 widescreen 1080i CRT ever made ( a Samsung ) . The G10 is in a completely different league . The only thing that comes close are the 9G Kuro Elites , and good luck buying one of the few hundred of those that are left out in the world . With Pioneer exiting the game the torch has been officially passed . My only regret is that I got anxious and pulled the trigger on a 50 before the 54 was released . I find myself lusting for that extra 4 every once in a while .
    • 011 4  Look , you've read all the reviews from Amazon , Cnet , HD Guru , etc . and they all pretty much say the same : this is a great plasma HDTV . The positive reviews on this G10 can be trusted . Suffice it to say , I am giving this a five-star rating without reservation . I purchased the Panasonic G10 , 50 inch , at BB over a month ago for just under $1,300 with free delivery and pickup . The price was more than enough to sell me on this set over any other plasma or LCD . The other products out there are fine , but if you combine the price and the quality , the G10 wins hands down . I compared several blue-ray movies using THX on the G10 and the movie mode on our Sony M3000 . Sorry , Sony , but the G10 beat it straight up and I was using our Sony BDP S350 . Some reviews have not liked the THX mode but I find it very acceptable and appreciate the darker blacks and the toned-down reds . Everyone has their own idea about which mode is the best , but I think Panasonic has enough picture modes to please everyone . The only caveat on this review is that Panasonic technical support is basically non-existent unless you have a couple of hours to burn waiting for a customer service person to answer . In conclusion , the expert and non-expert positive reviews on the Panasonic G10 plasma should be trusted . Do not be afraid to purchase the G10 .
    • 012 4  I've owned the G10 50 for almost a month now . I bought it based on the CNET reviews and then after reading the reviews here . I did have some reservations based on the reviews ( color and sound , specifically ) so those are the items I'll address . I'll start with the bad . The delivery service was horrible . The delivery guy called me and asked , Do you have a pickup truck ? My response , Yes , why ? He said , Can you meet me in such and such a town to pick it up ? In this economy we're trying to save as much $ as we can ! I called the manager at the delivery office and relayed the conversation to her . She seemed a bit upset , to say the least , and my TV arrived 45 minutes later . That wasn't a great start . Setting up the TV , however , was easy with a 2nd person . It was very easy . The TV stand is great , and makes the TV very sturdy . Once turned on the TV had a funny hue to it , just like the reviews had said . It has that greenish hue like it was ' sick ' or something . We changed all the settings as recommended by CNET and tried the THX as suggested by some reviewers . The picture was rather dim on THX , and the pictures on the settings recommended by CNET was pretty good . We then started looking at the other pre-set picture modes offered by the G10 and found Game mode to be incredible . The colors looked fantastic and the screen was bright . We've had it on this setting since then and the picture is wonderful . We've found the sound on this TV to be acceptable . We have a 7.1 Mirage surround sound system powered by a big Onkyo receiver so we do LOVE sound . Unless we are watching a movie , we just used the sound from this TV . This is something that we couldn't do with our last TV , so that's been a nice surprise . If you are hoping for movie theater sound from this TV , its not it . If you're looking for sound that is great for a TV set , then you won't be disappointed . Lastly , I was afraid of the infamous plasma glare that I kept reading about . I found the glare to not be an issue . We have a 14 foot wall of windows directly opposite the TV . The sun never shines directly into the window , and with the light colored curtains drawn , it just fine . There is no noticeable glare . I think this was our biggest relief . It was my wife's biggest relief too because she was able to keep her light tan curtains . I was ready to install black theater curtains if I had to . In conclusion : The initial picture quality is strange unless you choose a different setting or create your own ( which you can , easily ) , the TV design is very nice , there is little to no glare , and the sound is fine . The price on Amazon is great . All in all , this TV is a total winner . Don't be afraid . I'm a pretty particular person and I don't tolerate poor quality . I'm very happy with this purchase .
    • 016 4  We've used this TV for about a month now . I have Mac Mini and XBOX 360 connected . Basically , I prefer the picture in THX mode . It may seem a little dim for some people but it is the most realistic color wise . Actually , we usually have the shades open when we watch it , and I don't think it is dim . Just not LCD like . I just watched Tiger play Bridgestone and his 8 - iron 16th shot yesterday . It was beautiful on this TV , I can't wait for NFL season . We watch DVDs , Hulu , YouTube HD from the Mac Mini . The colors are great after I calibrated it for this display . My theory about buying TVs is that the rest of your system must be on the same level . This TV is a good display for a discounted price . So the rest of your components must also be good to take advantage of the display ( TV ) , specifically sound and content sources . We are trying to decide if we aren't using the TV to it's fullest by not having Blu-Ray . The discs are expensive right now so I'm in no rush . If I purchased a much better TV at 2x the price , then of course we should get Blu-Ray , Comcast HD , some 7.1 sound system . But think about the total cost of that ? ? Finally , this was an upgrade from a 30 slimfit . Sure 1080p , colors are great , but the size had the most impact . 40 , 42 , 46 inch is too small from 8 - 9 ft . Things I like : 1 . Audio input is reassignable to any video . I reassigned the s-video analog audio to HDMI . ( PC - > HDMI , PC audio to analog audio . ) , worked great . 2 . The channel scan is above average , it is easy to name channels and add them to the surf list . 3 . Responsive channel change and power on . 4 . Colors and blacks seem to be very pleasant on THX or after calibration , not gaudy or neon . General TV : 1 . Any claims about this TV being watchable from 178 degrees is BS , just like LCD . The problem is that there is a ghost reflection with the glass front , at side angles , probably noticable from around 170 + . 2 . No YouTube trickplay ( FF , RW , Slow ) . Pause is ok . 3 . Amazon HD trickplay only shows the time during trick play , there is no video preview . So when you are fast fowarding , you don't know where you are in the video except for time . 4 . From 9 Ft away , the Mac Mini font at 1080p ( DVI - > HDMI ) is too small . So I actually use the PC input at 1280 x 768 . Plasma TV caveats : 1 . It flickers . Your peripheral vision will detect it . So try not to set any backgrounds to white . 2 . It buzzes from the back . If you have a something that absorbs sound from the back of the TV , then it probably won't be noticeable . Dislikes about this particular TV : 1 . The speakers are just BAD . We had to buy a speaker system so that we wouldn't throw up from watching it . The sound is tinny , hard , and lacks bass . No warmth at all , and a little difficult to distinguish speech . 1 . If you have a bright box that goes partially across the screen , the horizontal area to the right of the box is dimmer . This is noticeable when the screen is used as a PC Display , when you have a non-maximized window or watching sports , when the score board is displayed . 2 . It doesn't passthrough compressed audio through optical from HDMI . compressed audio is only sent from broadcast content . 3 . Only 1 coax input . If you have both antenna and cable , they can't be simultaneously connected . 4 . 48Hz direct from 24 fps is unwatchable , it flickers too much . 4 . Only 3 HDMI 5 . Color and screen adjustments have weird rules . Some adjustments are available aren't available on certain display modes and source content . PC vs THX vs Standard , source interlaced vs non , HD vs non HD . 6 . I calibrated Rockband 2 for xbox 360 using this display . I recall it being 20 - 30ms slower than my 2006 Samsung Slimfit CRT . 7 . Surf digital only ( can select digital / analog / all / favorites ) didn't seem to work correctly .
    • 021 4  I recently purchased Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma and I can't say how much happy I am with the purchase . Great TV with lots of extra features ( Viera Link ) in less than $1450 . Bluray movies ( 1080p ) look stunning . Little disappointment with standard definition TV ( compare to my other plasma - Pioneer ) . Plug and play for internet connection . Easy to use Picasa web , youTube , Weather , Amazon On Demand etc . Overall great tv for the price . BTW - I spent lots of time in reserach i.e . Plasma v / s LCD , Samsung v / s Sony but this TV beat all . Power consumption , black level and anti-reflection screen ( usually features force people to buy LCD TVs instead of Plasmas ) are way above the average compare to other plasma tvs including my favourite Pioneer plasma tv . Overall - Excellent TV to have .
    • 023 4  I have been reading reviews of all the HDTVs I can get a hold of on and off-line in search of the models with the most accurate picture quality . After the well-known Pioneer Kuros have been discontinued , Panasonic's top plasma sets have become the best available . The difference in picture quality between the extremely expensive Kuro set I've seen and the Panasonic sets , such as this inexpensive TC-P50G10 , are very slight . You'd have to really be looking for trouble to see a slight difference . When I connected my TC-P50G10 , I hooked up my trusty old Oppo 980H universal player to it via the HDMI port then adjusted the picture settings using a calibration DVD . Although professional reviewers have stated that the most accurate picture quality is produced simply by activating the set's THX mode , I took this with a few grains of salt . According to one reviewer , the color temperature is the most accurate in this mode but you would have to set the color temperature setting to the Warm 2 setting ( this will ensure that the color temperature is even closer to the correct 6500K than the default THX setting ) . So that's what I did . I also adjusted each picture adjustment ( contrast , brightness , color , tint , and sharpness ) according to my calibration DVD's instructions in THX mode despite Panasonic's and reviewers ' claims that this wasn't necessary because I know that each of the adjustments is actually affected by the specific DVD player connected to the set . Personally , I did not find the THX mode to be too dark , as some reviewers have noted . It is really the mode you want to activate if you want to watch movies under the ideal viewing conditions : dimmed backlighting and low room lighting . The result was the best I've seen . As far as I can tell just by eye-balling , the picture was as good as I could hope for . Black level , contrast , color saturation was visibly perfect without the all-too-common red-push employed by virtually all other brands and models of TVs to make people look as if they had high fevers . And this was just with a couple of my personal DVDs . With Blu Ray the results often looked realistic enough to almost touch , especially with documentaries . I'm definitely keeping the TC - 50G10 . It delivers state-of-the-art picture quality and beats the pulp out of all the LCD sets I've seen , including the much revered top-of-the-line Sony LCD sets . This Panasonic plasma set delivers all the goods without the LCD shortcomings of varying contrast at different viewing angles , blacks that are stretched into dark grays , and motion blur . It's ironic and amazing how plasma sets are losing marketshare to LCD sets despite LCD's glaring shortcomings . Marketing hype , consistently bad and obsolete dissemination of information by salespeople , peer pressure , and blind brand loyalty are definite factors in this phenomenon . Oh well , at least I have a good plasma before the plasma type goes belly up .
    • 024 4  Had this for three months so far . My affection for this tv keep growing . I sit 8 ' away , and use it for xbox360 and blu rays . Everything looks great . Blacks are deep , colors are rich , resolution is sharp . I have it on custom mode because I like it better than THX . My sister has the X1 , I think the G10 looks better , a lot blacker , sharper . My friend has the S1 , I think the G10 looks better , still blacker , sharper . My wife's dad has the V10 , I think the G10 looks identical . To me the G10 is the sweet spot , best picture without paying extra $ $ $ for features I don't care about . And yes , I like plasma image quality better than lcd image quality , but I only play games and watch movies at night in a dark home theater . Anyway , I just wanted to chip in in another 5 - star review , because I love this tv . No buyers remorse here .
    • 032 4  I purchased this set about a month ago , after looking at a LOT of online reviews . I wasn't sure about Plasma-didn't they burn in , have overly-saturated colors , and run hot ? This purchase was intended to replace a Panasonic 30 CRT HD set , which had a great picture , but at about 175Lbs , was almost impossible to move . Also , it required a bit of tweaking to get a good picture , and had only one HDMI connector , and no optical audio out . So , I checked out the latest info on Plasma-only to learn that my fears about the technology have been allayed . Burn-in , or the retention of the image after the picture switches , is offset automatically by the set , which subtly moves the static images so burn-in doesn't occur . There is also a utility built in to the set which cleans the screen . The power consumption / heat output of the set is more than LCD , but that too is in the comparable realm . They power management is simply better and more efficient than in years past . So , the reviews I read , and believe me , I read a LOT of them , all mentioned that Panasonic knows how to do Plasma right . The price was reasonable for the set-and the options it has are sufficient . 3 HDMI slots , multiple component in connectors , optical audio out-these were all things I wanted . Plus , the VieraCast , not something that to me was too important , is actually a nice thing-if nothing else , it allowed me to update the firmware of the set within minutes of setting it up . The picture quality-it's amazing ! Better than pretty much anything else out there . I think the closest competitor is the upper-end Panasonic-but that's a subtle difference . The colors are rich ( buy the BluRay Up just to show it off ! ) and true , and the brightness is great-no compromises , even in a moderately-lit room . Playing video games is a breeze-I have a PS3 and Xbox360 set up on the system , both with slightly different settings . The Panny allows different settings for each of the inputs-very cool . So , the BluRay player can make the set default to the THX setting , TV can be slightly less / more vivid , games can go through the Game mode on the set-you get the idea . It works well . Sound through the optical out is great-although I've heard that it does NOT do true Dolby surround through it-not a huge deal to me , as I use an optical audio switch device , which runs straight from the various components to the speakers . I cannot comment whether or not this is the case , but if you check the various reviews , it's there . So , all in all , I got a GREAT set with a fantastic picture at a reasonable price . We decided on the 50 to future-proof a bit , as we are temporarily living in an apartment , and will likely buy a house in the next year or so . Even in a relatively smaller room , the picture is great-you don't get the pixelation or smearing of some LCD sets . I highly recommend the set-it's a great deal , and is getting increasingly more difficult to source-I have friends in the UK who have been looking for one in-stock for a while without success . It doesn't surprise me they're going fast
    • 039 4  I was trying to decide between LCD and Plasma before I purchased this set . After reading the reviews on CNET and looking over the comparitive specs I decided to go with this set . I'm glad I did ! I was hesitant going with plasma for two reasons , brightness and glare . This set doesn't have a problem with either one . It's plenty bright and also has an anti-reflective coating on the screen . I don't see any issues unless you might have a large bank of south facing windows ( without shades ) directly opposite the screen . Dollar for dollar I think this beats any LCD I looked at within $400 of the price . Fast motion is much better than any LCD and so are the black levels . I was amazed watching The Dark Knight , I liked it on this set better than at the theater !
    • 045 4  I've been holding out on the plasmas for a few years now , and they have only gotten better and cheaper in the last few years . This Panasonic p50G10 Plasma is no exception . The picture is sharp , response is snappy ( no blurring ) , and the colors are in tune . I believe the only TV that can compete with this one is the Pioneer Elite . Also , the menus are easy to use and the remote control is one of the nicer ones I've seen . Some specifics : - The inputs / outputs are all on the left side of the TV , which makes it easy to get to when swapping out cables . - The Viera Cast feature is cute , definitely still a work in progress . The Amazon Video function is nice also and has potential . - The Viera Link insta-synced up with my Samsung PD - 1600 Blu-ray player which was nice , although the Panasonic remote doesn't have all of the buttons that you will need ( title menu for example ) - There is also a function to sync up with Panasonic network cameras and use your wireless network for video streaming ( haven't tried it but seems cool ) . - I use the THX mode for movies , it's kind of a more mellow color pallet which is good for watching movies in the dark . As far as price and shipping , I ordered it directly from Amazon for $1500 out the door with free shipping . The shipping estimate was about a week but it showed up in 2 days ( ! ) . Apparently it shipped from Seattle and ended up in Dulles , VA a day later . I would highly recommend this TV to anyone who takes picture quality seriously but doesn't want to spend $5k for a Pioneer Elite . For the money , you can't beat this TV .
    • 057 4  This is our first ever hi-def TV , and at the same time we bought it , we also bought a Blu-Ray player . Neither my wife or I are extreme users of this kind of equipment and we really haven't explored all the technical aspects of this thing . But frankly how our computer looks over it or what kind of lighting and color adjustments it has wasn't our primary purpuse in buying it to begin with . We bought it to watch TV and DVD's on . No doubt we'll be exploring the breadth of capabilities in the future ( in particular renting movies on line ) , but our primary purpose will always remain the same . That said , we were blown away by this thing right out of the box ! We've made no adjustments to it , and the picture is incredible . We've had it about a month now , and we're still amazed at the clarity and richness of the picture . The contrast between the deep black and the light / color parts is something to behold . And the Blu-Ray . . . . yes , the Blu-Ray . I've spent more money on Amazon on these little discs than I care to admit since buying this TV . And although we've never done Guitar Hero or anything like that , we're really wondering what fun that would be on this thing . As for the sound , we can't address that since we have surround sound . And the reflection off the screen is not outta line , but a little more than I expected from the reviews . You may have to adjust where you're sitting when you watch it if you have a bright light source nearby or else pull the blinds so there's not much direct light on the screen . But all in all , this is a minor niggle and even in retrospect , wouldn't have kept me from buying this very fine unit . All in all , and incredible piece of equipment . Frankly , after having this in our living room , the whole family agrees that unless we absolutely MUST see a first run movie when it first comes out and can't wait for it to get to the open market , then there's absolutely no need to ever go to a theater . It's just that good .
    • 059 4  I won't say I have tried every feature of this television , but the picture controls , the VieraCast , and HDMI input via DirecTV and DVD players , I have . The most useful feature of the VieraCast I have found is the weather - great for quick local forecasts and radar map . In general , the switching while in VieraCast is a bit slow , although some of that could be due to internet response . Setting it up was very easy - plug it into a router / switch that supports DHCP , and you are up and running . YouTube videos do okay , though searching for the ones you want to see is quite rudimentary compared to what you can do on a computer with a real keyboard . The picture controls are not extensive , but good enough for me to get the colors accurate with DirecTV signal . The picture on this TV is amazing - both the HD and the SD channels . The refresh rate of plasma really takes care of most problems with sweeping scenes that I have seen on some LCDs . I have had a number of people say they wish they had bought this TV after seeing mine , so I figure that is pretty telling . I've been using it for close to five months without a hitch . Purchase and delivery through Amazon was fast and painless . The delivery person helped me un-box it , set it up , and even offered to take the box away ( though I kept it ) . I have been very satisfied with this purchase !
    • 067 4  I've been researching flat panel TVs for 3 years now and had run the gamut from LCDs to Panasonic plasmas and am I glad it took me so long to make up my mind ! The Panasonic 50 G10 is one heck of a TV ; beautiful to look at on my entertainment center and a fabulous picture . . . I don't even have HD set up on my UVerse account yet so I'm just looking at standard definition ! Watched an HD movie on my Panasonic blue ray DVD player and it was breath-taking . The connections are easy to make , the manual is easy to understand ( for me that's quite a statement ! ) and the remote is structured so that everything is obvious and handy . I just think that Panasonic made this TV very intuitive for the not-so-technical types like myself . . . I just LOVE it . The sound , as other reviews state , is not the best , but I've always used my home theater sound system no matter what TV I'm watching , as that sound will always be better . The delivery service , PILOT FREIGHT SERVICES , was exceptional . The young men that came to install the TV set it up in no time and even went over some of the functions with me so , by the time they left , I was very comfortable about being able to work the TV on my own . They also get my undying gratitude as I had injured one of my hands using an electric hedge trimmer ( you can imagine the results of that experience ) the day before and could not move my behemoth of a Sony 32 Wega TV off the entertainment center before they arrived . That TV weighs almost as much as the new one , but is by no means as easy to maneuver and they moved it for me to its ' new location with no complaints and smiles all around . . . major kudos to PILOT FREIGHT SERVICES ! Amazon , you gotta keep these guys ! So , bottom line ; this is one heck of a TV right out of the box , do NOT hesitate to buy it ! Amazon offered a great price , free expedited delivery ( it came before I was expecting it ) and a fabulous delivery company . . . I could not be happier ! Way to go Panasonic , Amazon and Pilot Freight Services . . . it's another home run ! WooHoo !
    • 074 4  Once again , Amazon went beyond the call by pricing this at or below almost every competitor and shipping it so quickly that I received it before Christmas ( even though I didn't order it until Dec 17th ) . The picture and sound quality are outstanding and setup was effortless . The shipper ( Freight Systems ) called me one day after placing the order to let me know they picked the item up from Amazon's distribution center . I received two subsequent phone calls giving me a status . This is in addition to the website , which they also updated regularly . They scheduled delivery for the morning of Dec 24th and showed up right on time . The package was in excellent condition . The delivery driver opened the package and plugged it in to ensure it wasn't damaged in transit . All of this for free standard shipping ! I've bought a lot of goods from Amazon over the past several years , and this latest purchase proves once again that you can't go wrong ordering something from Amazon no matter what it is - - a book , an appliance , or a high-end product like a plasma television .
    • 076 4  I've had this TV for 3 months now and couldnt be happier . I was originally choosing between the equivalent-sized Samsung touch-of-color LCD TV for ~ $1400 and a Sony 50 LCD for ~ $1900 . Normally I buy all Sony home entertainment components but this time I strayed and went with the Panasonic Plasma . I had read countless reviews and talked to a lot of friends about the plasma / LCD dilemma . What I've seen , in general , is that anyone who has bought an LCD will likely tell you to buy LCD . It costs more , but it is undoubtedly a great TV with great picture for a reputable brand . However , the more I read the more it seemed like that all the cons of LCD TV ( blurriness when watching fast-moving action like sports ) has been corrected for the most part and likewise , the cons of plasma ( burn-in ) has been corrected . Based on what I read it seems like for you to ever have to worry about burn-in you'd have to watch such an ungodly amount of TV and ( likely be pausing on action ) that you have more to worry about than your TV burning and should be more concerned that you're watching so much TV . I look at this TV as a maybe 10 year investment and dont think burn-in will be a problem . . . can I say that for certain ? No , but so far it is magnificent and the VALUE at this price is unparalled . Make no mistake , this is a great deal and a quality brand . . . this coming from a former Sony enthusiast . My only gripe is that I wish the Viera-cast had Netflix integrated in like many other manufacturers have done . That aside , it's a gorgeous TV and delivers on everything it claims to .
    • 080 4  Purchased from Vann's through Amazon . Communication from Vann's was great and the shipping was fast . This is my first hdtv and I did much research prior to purchase . I've had the tv for a few weeks and did a 120 hour break in on it . Some may not see this as necessary but I did it for good karma if nothing else . The karma itself worked ; I originally had one dead sub-pixel ( not uncommon when considering there are millions of sub-pixels ) . Of course , it was only noticeable on a completely white or green screen and from about 1 foot away . Otherwise , it wasn't noticeable . Anyhow , at some point in my break in period the issue was gone . It was likely a stuck pixel but it's no longer there . Either way , it wasn't noticeable from a normal viewing distance and something that I knew is a potential matter with plasmas . Anyhow , HD content is superb ; SD content depends on the source . THX mode , as many may say , is a bit dim but I feel is good in a completely dark room . Otherwise , I use the custom mode . The sound is adequate but external receiver and speakers are probably necessary to get a true movie theater experience ( which is probably what you want when spending so much money for a tv ) . I don't have a separate system yet , but that will be coming soon enough . The Viera Cast feature is nice but limited . I expect more content in the next year or so . For now , it's just a fun feature . The SD card reader is also nice . It's easy to pop one in and run a slide show . The pictures look great , much better than viewing them on a laptop screen or digital picture frame . My laptop connects via HDMI and it looks great . I don't use the tv as a monitor but have viewed pictures , movies , etc via the laptop connection and it works much better than expected . Many will say that LCDs are better for this purpose if that's your intention with the tv on occassion but I can't imagine much better than what this tv delivers . I am really happy with the purchase and will continue to use Vann's in the future ( purchased my camera from them last year and had similar positive experience which ultimately brought me back when looking at a new tv ) . Unless you are looking to spend $2k plus with minimal to gain for that kind of money , you likely won't find a better value than this tv . I'm still blown away every time I turn it on !
    • 083 4  Appearance is great . I do wish it didn't have white at the bottom of the frame though . All black would have looked nicer . Picture quality is great . Not as good as a Pioneer but still great . I would say after Pioneer , Panasonic is the next best plasma . And plasmas do have better picture quality than LCD's . Motion blur and viewing angle - enough said . TV has 3 HDMI inputs which is adequate . I wish it had 4 ( Blu-Ray / Cable TV / Game / Camcorder ) . Menu is pretty easy to use . Set TV to THX mode for watching in medium to dark rooms . Set custom settings as suggested by the CNET review of this TV for watching in a bright room . I have used the SD card to watch pictures and videos , and I have used viera cast to watch youtube videos straight to the TV . It was very easy to use . AVCHD videos can be watched from the SD card . AVCHD ( . MTS ) files from my panasonic camera worked great . AVCHD ( . MTS ) files from my Canon Camcorder did not play . I would have given the Viera G10 5 starts but after 28 days of having the TV , a row of pixels died on the TV . I now need to get another one . But I figure its a fluke . I will get another Viera G10 . * Update - So far my new G10 is working great - No dead pixels .
    • 106 4  I've been a Panasonic fan since my teenage years . In the last 40 years , I have purchased dozens of amazing electroic products with the Panasonic label . Amazingly , all are still functioning ! ! Maybe I'm just lucky , but one thing is for sure , I do read the instruction manual to get the most use of my new product . My latest Panasonic purchase is the 50 inch G10 series.I must admit I almost defected to the Samsung LED series . It was nerve wracking . I read every review on C-NET and dozens of others . I went out to visually check all the competeing sets at Best Buy , PC richard , and several other stores . Remember , you can see the same TV in many settings in any particular store , and every setting will be different . For my eyes the G10 stood out from every concieveable angle . Crisp , bright , simply amazing ! ! All my friends who visit my house and watch my TV are shocked at how much better my plasma looks . There's really nothing else to say . I couldn't be more happy with my latest Panasonic purchase .
    • 107 4  Couldn't be happier After months of studying every home theater magazine , article , internet posting , and retail store ; I found that this was The One . I had been leaning towards plasma all along . For the money this was an absolute best buy . The color is perfect , flesh tones are right on and in actual home use it is plenty bright enough . The THX setting really needs no tweaking out of the box . If given the choice I would gladly buy it again .
    • 129 4  My eyes ! They burn ! ! And that's a good thing . This Panasonic TV is so much crisper and clearer than any Sharp Aquos 85 or 90 series LCD . It is very bright so watching in a sunlit room in the middle of the day is not an issue , even in the dimmer ' THX ' mode . Surprisingly , it doesn , t produce that much heat . Plenty of inputs on the back and an optical out to feed to a receiver is a bonus . Unfortunately my receiver doesn't do 1080 pass thru very well so I'm running my video feeds into the TV and allowing the audio to pass thru via Toslink optical cable . Thanks to the large number of inputs on the Panny I am able to circumvent the shortcomings of the rest of my setup . Now it's time to get a new receiver to compliment this incredible display . Vanns , your the best large item electronics seller I've ever dealt with . Very fast ( like 4 days ) , FREE shipping right to my door and you kept me updated with my order every step of the way . I'm so glad I bought from Vanns instead of best buy , considering I originally ordered online from Best Buy and 4 days later they canceled my order without any explanation . Even when I called them they just told me to ' re-order it ' . Give Vanns your business , they will make you glad that you did ! - Jason
    • 131 4  The colors are true and sharp . I can sit a few feet away from the screen and comfortably read text out of a word file ! ! I have had no problems with any kind of burn in even despite the fact that I have done plenty of gaming and watched a number of films in 4 : 3 ratio . I paired this gorgeous screen with the energy take classic speaker's and now I don't even have to go to the cinema hall .
    • 139 4  Ordered the TV and got it in 3 working days . it was delivered by Pilot in great condition . it was delivered 2 days early . I would not want to go with any other online place for big ticket items . Picture : Great . Primary colors ( black , red , blue , etc . . ) looked awesome . Secondary colors ( green / yellow ) looks a bit radioactive . CNET described this minor problem in their review . but if you are not looking for this , then you probably would not see it . For the money , i don ' have any grips . Sound : ok , best to hook it up to home theater Design : excellent . the silver on the bottom looks great . Hooking up to receive signals : I did a bunch of research and decided to just get a HDTV indoor antenna . Chose a Radio Shack DA - 5200 , and picked up about 20 local digital channels ( some are HD ) . The picture is clear and it only costs $60 . Instead of paying $60 / month for cable / dish , i can buy 3 blue ray discs / month . what a deal ! HD Picture : awesome . once you see this , you would not want to look at a regular tv . the HD channels look absolutely REAL .
    • 140 4  I got this TV a few weeks ago and I've had a great experience . I'm not using all of the bells & whistles with it yet , that time is coming soon . The main reason I bought it was for the picture quality . I did a ton of research and have the TV in a darker room and the picture is simply outstanding . THX mode for BlueRay is great , and right now I'm using the CNET settings for regular use . I was really surpised that the SD quality is actually pretty good , I don't have to be a complete HDTV snob and still watch the non HD channels and have it still be worthwhile . Of course the HD channels are outstanding and completely suck you in . I did get the deal with the blueray player , which was a great deal . Delivery by Pilot was great and came faster than planned . They set it up , let me look at it and make sure it works , took the box and left . I'm very happy with this purchase ! ! It just seems like such a great value compared to LCD's , Plasma is where it's at now for what you get for your buck . The remotes are pretty straight forward between the Pan blueray and TV and worked with eachother immediately which is nice . Both were programmable to the Comcast remote of course I guess my only complaints would be the silver on the bottom of the TV ( minor ) , and I still need to save up for a home theater to pair with this set .
    • 142 4  The Panasonic TC-P50G10 delivers one of the best picture quality so far in the market . I've been searching for a TV for almost 2 years . Plasma is my first option , and I've looking the 2 brands : Samsung and Panasonic . Both deliver excellent picture quality . Then I found out Amazon was giving a very good deal : $200 off when you purchased G10 plus Panasonic BluRay player . I decided to go with it . 2 weeks later , both items were delivered . First I tried with BluRay movie . The picture quality was astonishingly good ! I use the THX mode . In that mode , the color is accurate , vivid , vibrant , and saturated . I also set the black level to dark , so that the black level can really go deeper . With its THX mode ( slightly lower the contrast ) , you don't need to do anything , just sit back and enjoy the beauty of the excellent , crispy sharp image ! I tried different picture modes . Still the THX is my favorite one , although it does seem a little dark in the day time when sun is shining so bright . But that's no issue because I can shut the blinds off to reduce the sun light . Then , I tried with TV ( using an indoor atenna ) . Some channels are using the 720p , some are 1080i , and some are still standard NTSC definition . Still , the picture is sharp , and the color is also refreshing vivid , though it is no match with the BluRay movie . All in all , I'm very satisfied with Panasonic TC-P50G10 . It delivers the excellent color , picture quality , and perfect black level . You won't find any better picture with this price tag . Highly recommended !
    • 145 4  We were debating between an LCD and Plasma and was leaning towards an LCD . After lots of research and talking to experts , I learnt that LCDs in showrooms look better because they are optimized better than Plasma . Further research led to concluding that Plasma was easily the better choice because of SIGNIFICANTLY higher contrast ratios , smoother transitions and high refresh rates . The colors look better , more real , the images are smoother and the overall experience is great . Once I decided , Panasonic was the easier choice . I got this recommended by an expert and I am so thankful to him for that . My pictures look great , the HD channels and movies look wonderful . The colors are rich , detailed and the videos are amazing . Picasa and Youtube and definitely a nice to have and work very well . For the price and performance , there is nothing that comes remotely close . BUY It and you will not regret it !
    • 167 4  Bought this back in April . It arrived 3 days after order . I could not believe it . My first HDTV but I've watched many from friends homes and sports bars . This is the best one I've ever seen . For a plasma , the glare reduction is the best ever , no one else comes close . I don't know how they did it . Only problem , I can't stand watching my old 32 inch CRT tube in the bedroom . Gonna have to upgrade that one soon I suppose .
    • 183 4  For the money , this is the best HDTV on the market in ' 09 . Just don't order it here . I ordered mine through Amazon . The first time it was delivered , it had a large crack in the screen . The second time , there was a hole in the box and dent in the back of the TV . Needless to say , I cancelled my order and bought this TV from Best Buy - same price , and it wasn't broken . How about that ? Anyway , great picture , great motion , clear-bold colors . The blacks are unbeatable , and the THX feature is ridiculous . This TV blows any 52 - inch LCD out of the water - lighted room or not .
    • 184 4  I bought this tv for my new home . I am blown away ! ! ! HD dvd looks so clear so does blue ray . Games look so good .
    • 188 4  I have had the TC-P50G10 in the house for a few days now . My wife and I are thoroughly disappointed . I have been buying Panasonic TVs for many years , all the way back to the pana-black square CRT days . They have always been my favorite . I have a Panasonic plasma in another room of the house which is a few years old and have been very pleased with it . I was very confident when I purchased the TC-P50G10 from amazon based on the rave reviews from all the blogs ( cnet , HDGURU , etc . . ) . Everyone seems to love it . However , this 1080p plasma tends to be blurry , fuzzy or hazy . There is a dullness to the picture as opposed to the crystal clear dynamism that I expect from a top notch 1080p plasma . I notice it most when watching sports . When there are graphics on the screen , such as on Fox during the World Series when they display the box with a batters statistics , its blurry and muted . The text is fuzzy . Actually , any text displayed on the set is fuzzy . My wife noticed it first and I didn't want to accept it , but she is right . We have difficulty focusing on the thing . And don't tell me its the picture settings . I have tried every combination of THX , Custom , Standard . . . while moving the other settings all over the place . Same thing , dull and muted . We thought that perhaps ours was defective , but we went to BB today and as we walked up to the same model TC-P50G10 on display , we saw it right away . When sitting next to the other flat panels , the Panasonic plasmas from the 2009 line-up all have a grayish , muted effect to them . Oh , and the color is a bit off too . The green isn't right . I could deal with the color issue on its own , but this sucker is headed back to amazon . Don't believe the hype . I see the potential for greatness , but the 2009 lineup of Panasonic plasmas are a resounding dud .

  • 072 4  I love the TV.It has a good picture , and easy to work. The only downside is the sound is not to good.If you turn the bass up it rattles , so u have to turn it down.If you have a home theater then you wont have any probelms.I guess all in all its a great tv .
    • 134 4  I received the plasma and the set up was very easy . . I white glove service was excellent . . . as for picture a 5stars . . . the plasma really turn out to be the best buy
    • 152 4  I have watched and read numerous reviews over the years and finally made the plunge and I believe I made the best choice . This TV is awesome : lightwieght , easy to assemble , incredible picture and sound , and fairly easy to use remote and menu choices .
    • 171 4  I work for Directv and get to see plasmas and lcds all day . This tv looks as good as anything out there . What a deal !

  • 079 4  I have had this tv for about a month now and can say a few things about it . As far as the look , i like how it doesnt feel cheap , nice design , and slim profile . Another thing to note is it has fans in the back , so the tv stays cool for a plasma . PIcture quality is excellent and accurate , i have to say however that the thx mode like everyone else is saying , is a bit dark . Viera cast is a cool new feature , defintely in development though , not much u can do with it yet . The colors on this tv loook very natural , all and all , i recommend anyone to buy this tv .

    • 149 4  I read every one of the reviews here as well as CNET's and decided to buy this TV . I was partial to plasma after seeing my share of LCDs in bars , homes , stores and restaurants , and I find them ( LCDs ) to be too bright and the viewing angles aren't so great . IMHO , I just think plasmas look more realistic and since they've improved over the years , I was even more inclined to go plasma . I ordered the G10 on Monday and it was in my house and set up on Friday . I just moved up to this Panasonic plasma from my old JVC RPTV ( which my neighbor now has ) . I got a great deal from Amazon which included free shipping and a BD player . I have the TV and BD hooked up to Directv with HD . The HD picture is nothing short of amazing . I don't see the problem with THX - - it looks fine to me , even under indirect daylight . I don't like an overly bright picture ( as you'll find in the game mode ) . I also have no problem with screen glare even though the TV faces the windows . I have yet to see a BD disc on this TV , and find it hard to believe that the picture can be better than just a regular DVD , which looks fantastic . Regular ( non-HD ) programming looks about as good as can be expected , but the purpose of this TV is for watching HD material , so I don't find that to be a problem . The sound is fine . . . I don't expect 10 watts per speaker to sound like a theater . I hooked up a pair of Altec Lansing PC speakers with subwoofer , and that helps expand the sound . I'm not one to sit home and endlessly watch TV or movies , so I don't need the whole home theater experience . Anyway , it's only been 1 day but I am very pleased with this TV . I can hardly wait to show it off to my friends and family !
      • 005 4  I received the 50 inch G10 about a weak ago . Setup was a simple procedure and I have been able to view the tv in a variety of lighting situations and video source formats . The set is in a brightly lit room ( ambient ) and I have utilized the THX setting as well as the custom settings outlined in CNET . I do get some glare but it is from a bay window directly opposite the tv and is resolved by shutting the curtains . The picture is bright enough ( I use the custom setting during the day ) and the noise complaints I have read on other posts is non-existent . In fact , the Comcast cable box is far louder . Heat build up is not an issue either . Speakers ? I have been pleasantly surprised . There have been a couple of times where I had to look and see if the surround system was on ( amp was off ) . Picture in HD , blue-ray is jaw dropping . My wife and I both comment on the quality of both the detail and color . This TV replaced a 7 year old Sony HD set ( 34 XBR ) that failed and I am stunned how much the quality has improved and the costs have dropped in the intervening years [ . . . ] .
      • 062 4  This TV is great . The only thing I did not like was about a week after I bought the TV Panasonic announced a rebate program but by this point I had already thrown away the box with the UPC . I really need a new digital camera . Lesson to be learned , next time I will remove the UPC no mater what .
      • 065 4  Wonderful TV , outstanding picture , easy hook-up , only goofy part was the delivery service . . . we tracked the unit to our airport , it then sat in the warehouse for a week before we were called for a delivery appointment . . . then the truck was too big to get close to the house so the guys had to hand carry it .
      • 092 4  After a couple of mnoths with this TV , I couldn't be happier . I did months of research and this was definitely the best TV for the money . I hooked up to a PS3 and Yamaha 7.1 receiver so my son is in seventh heaven . I'm even amazed at how good non-HD channels look on it .
      • 105 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I've been a Panasonic fan since my teenage years . • 138 4  The G10 is my first HDTV after waiting years for prices to come down and quality to improve . LCD picture quality never tempted me to pull the trigger on an HDTV . Too much blur during sports and movies for the price . Delivery was outstanding . The first set that was ordered from Amazon was damaged and not deliverable . A new set was sent and delivered . Total time from order to delivery was a little over two weeks . The crew called ahead and worked well with my wife . It took ten minutes to set-up the TV and scan for over the air digital signals . Wow ! Glad that I started watching at night during prime time shows . Signal quality is the key with this TV . Standard programming is ok , but HD looks fantastic . Look up CNET settings or AV Science Forum for G10 settings . I used some break in slides at night during the first couple weeks and it seemed to improve the pop of the picture slightly . Overall , the G10 has enough settings for a novice to get a great picture . Blue-ray looks amazing . As we have a two year old , we only find time to watch movies at night and THX looks fantastic . . . better then the theaters . I really don't think that you will find a better quality picture for the price of this television . Watch for specials . . . I got mine with a free blue-ray player . One final note , our 50 G10 made little difference to our energy bill . The set runs fairly cool and you don't hear the fans . If energy consumption is a concern , it shouldn't be with this set . Most LCDs this size cost considerably more and the payback on energy savings is well over 10 years .
      • 162 4  This is a great TV with a great price . I would like it to be brighter but other people in the house think it is OK . Highly recommended .
      • 164 4  I just like my TV , I went through a very complex way to know what was the best Flat-tv for me and this panasonic meets all my needs .

    • 156 4  I bought this TV and have about 500 hours on it . The black levels abruptly rose one day making black colored content appear much more grey . This killed my picture quality ( which was otherwise very good ) . I contacted Panasonic support regarding this issue , and even though I am still under warranty , they completely blew me off . BUYER BEWARE , and do research before buying this product . See the ( . . . ) review of this product for more information ( I wish I would have before buying ) .

      • 126 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I've had my panasonic tv for about one month . It is everything the reviews say , the picture is awesome , the set up is very easy , and it looks fantastic . The one thing is it does pick up a lot of glare , I had to buy a drape for the living room in order to stop the glare , also the sound is not good , you do need a surround sound system to get good sound . Other than that I am extremely pleased .
      • 133 4  I agonized over my choice for flat screen technology , and am VERY happy I chose the Panasonic TC-P50G10 . Picture is gorgeous , and can be viewed from ANY ANGLE , which was important as I plan to have movie nights at my home . Written materials are easy to understand , and it is a bonus that you can connect to the internet to download movies . I also appreciated the people who delivered the Panasonic , they helped me with installation .

    • 170 4  Thanks Amazon , Many companies talk about customer service but you deliver . I ordered a Panasonic TC-P50G10 television on 6 / 11 / 09 and Amazon delivered it to the trucking company on the 18th . Then bad things started to happen . The trucking company Ryder left me a voice mail telling me to contact them . I called at 4pm their time , the same day , and got voice mail . I requested a return call . Nothing . On Friday the 19th I called again , at 4pm ( having waited all day for the requested return call ) . I got voice mail again telling me office hours were 9 - 5pm . . . so they must be busy . I left another message . No call back . On Monday the 22nd , I called again and after a long conversation with the contact person , I was assured I would get a call the next day scheduling a delivery time . No call . On Wednesday the 24th the manager called me and said Because you did not actually schedule a delivery time , it is your fault the item did not make it onto the truck going to your area , and the earliest we will now deliver is sometime in July . My fault . After a very long conversation , the Manager Mike Bober agreed it was probably not my fault and that they might have made a mistake but there was nothing he was willing to do about it , tough luck he said . ( I asked for his supervisor's name and number , I called several times and always got voice mail and never a return call . ) So I called amazon . They graciously offered to refund the shipping charges . I wanted to think it over , there was plenty of time . So , on Friday , June 26 I called Ryder again and was told , I could expect the TV sometime in early July . This was better . The next day , Sunday , July 28th , the local BestBuy put the same television on sale for $152 less than I had paid 19 days earlier . What would you do if you were me ? I called amazon and explained what was going on . The CSR apologized , he was reasonable and understood the dilemma I was in . He explained that if I killed the first order and re-ordered it was going to be the same shipping company who would deliver the next TV and would take weeks . So , as a way to out of the problem , he offered me a 10% discount on the TV . It's not price matching , because I still do not have a TV . But it was smart and very customer friendly . And like I said before , lot's of companies talk about customer service but Amazon delivers . And here is the problem . It is in the trucking companies best interest to keep items as long as possible in their warehouse . This way , the chances go way up that they will have more items to the deliver to the same neighborhood . Also , chances greatly increase that they could have a pickup in that same neighborhood . The point is , it is in the trucking companies best interest to deliver your package as slowly as possible . So , if you know how the system works , you can avoid delays . As soon as you are notified a trucking company has your item , call them until you talk to someone . Write down individual names and numbers . Your package will arrive quickly and in good condition if they know you are watching . And if there are any problems , Amazon will be there to help you out . I give Amazon * * * * Patrick
      • 007 4  This TV is replacing a 2003 42 Panasonic 720p HDTV Commercial Monitor ( a 2001 model I think ) . I have always been happy with the picture on that set , except in its current location it is not bright enough during the day . I figured I might as well go a little bigger too . The set is very good , but my wife said that she liked the picture on the previous TV better ! This is because we sit too close to the set and we can now easily distinguish subtle imperfections in various video sources . My bad . For example , native , studio-lit HD video content like The Today Show looks pristine , while a shot-on-film drama in HD starts to reveal film grain , but not in a good way . It is also very clear the difference in different qualities of HD camera equipment during local HD news . On the 42 set the picture was smaller so most of these differences were not so obvious . Everything looked great . Also , just to make it clear - Professional HD video graphics ( like lower thirds and animation etc during news ) look absolutely perfect on this set just like the 42 , as there is no camera quality issue in the image delivery . Only on camera shots is it so detailed you we suddenly get critical between sources . This is not a criticism of this set , its just a reality when you get a larger set at the same distance - so beware - alot of people will tell you ' buy the biggest set you can afford ' - I don't think that's necessarily good advice . That said , this might make no difference whatsoever for folks who sit farther back from the set . But still , with all the improvements in HDTV since my old Panny came out , I was expecting to be at least a little blown away . I wasn't . I also agree that 1080p is no big deal on a set this size or smaller . I watched a blu-ray of X-Men in both 1080p and 720p , and the difference was imperceptible to me . If there is one exception , it might be HD games . I don't play a lot of console games , but I watched a demo of Ninja Gaiden and it was without question the most gorgeous rendering of a video game I have ever seen , no complaint there . Again there is no camera quality issue in the source material delivery . The Vieracast thing is really of very little use to me . You can watch YouTube and Amazon video on it , but I have had that on my HD TiVo for a long time now . Besides that it has weather and stock quotes - whoopeedoo , like I needed another source for that . Picasa is well done , but I dont use Picasa I use Flickr . Also , in YouTube , there is no indication whether you are watching the HQ or regular version of the video . Obviously , you always want to be watching the HQ version . There is no option to do this . Whats really lame about the Vieracast is that there are 2 empty slots for Vieracast content saying ' coming soon ' - they really needed to get these filled before release , it looks half-done . I recommend Flickr and Vimeo . There are also two content slots taken up by Viera Concierge and THX mode ( which is already available in picture settings ) - these could be used by network features . If Vieracast only had 2 features - uPNP and solid video format playback support ( mpeg 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 , AVCHD , DiVx , Quicktime , and AVI / Windows Media ) , plus maybe a USB storage jack , it would be 10x as practical as the ( mostly ) dumb stuff they currently have it filled with . There is also a feature to be able to see your Panasonic internet camera on the TV . The TV says to ' refer to your cameras manual to enable the link mode ' - I could not find this setting anywhere on my Panasonic camera's settings interface , and the TV could not find my camera . This may have been a subnet issue . I was interested in the support for AVCHD playback from an SD card . I have a Canon HG10 which records in AVCHD . I put a few of its files on an SD card , along with a handful of other video formats ( including MPEG2 , which supposedly is also supported ) , and although the set could find the photos on the card but insisted there were not any videos on it : | Worthless . It shows photos fine but you cant zoom or stretch them . The set does not read the quirky nonstandard ' 4GB SD ' card I have , but seems to play well with any standard SD or SDHC card . The set is pleasantly light for its size , although it has no handles and you really need two people to seat it in the non-rotating pedastal ( one to hold it , one to line up the holes ) . I have no issues with screen reflectivity , I am pleased with that . Brightness during the day is also fine which was my major problem which needed solving . The onscreen settings menu are snappy and easy to use . Personally , I cannot use the THX picture setting , its just too dark ( adjusting the brightness on the THX settings seemingly had no effect ) . The only setting that is really usable during the day is my custom setting , the ' vivid ' setting being a bit overblown . I wont comment on speakers as I pass-through to a receiver , and really don't have anything to compare them to as my last was a monitor w / o speakers . This set does NOT click when changing inputs , like my Onkyo AV receiver , which has very noisy switching , not only between sources , but even if an HD channel switches to an SD commercial . So , after all that , I am not disappointed I got this set . I can watch TV during the day again , I now I have my old set in my bedroom , and a set with a lot more features ( some greatly appreciated , some not ) , and a great picture , and at a great price . I will get used to the size . However , if I had to do it again , I think I may have gone with a 46 720p set and been just as happy . Also - a note on shipping from Amazon - in 3 days from order I got a call to schedule the delivery in a 5 - hour window the next day . The unit was delivered on time , the delivery man was polite , courteous , experienced , and professional . He unboxed the unit , assembled it on the pedestal , and helped me put it on my stand and plug it in . He then removed the packaging . Pretty good for free delivery of a 100 lb product . - Update - I just noticed today that there are no digital audio inputs on this tv , so if you are using component cables instead of HDMI , this might be a problem . Also , after 5 days I am totally used to the size and detail issues . Its a great set and I'm very happy with it . UPDATE : I recently tested a Canon Vixia HFS10 HD Camcorder , which records AVC on HD . The Panasonic instantly recognized the native HD video recorded on the SD cards by the Canon and played them back flawlessly - now my favorite feature .
      • 009 4  This is my first HD set , although I have watched a lot of HDTV at friends ' homes over the years . The picture of this TV is simply amazing . The color in THX mode is truely mesmerizing ( to borrow a perfectly apt description from a previous reviewer ) . It is so good that I try to use it most of the time unless the room is very bright ( I have large windows on two walls in the room , so if it's sunny outside and the curtains are up , it gets too bright for THX mode ) . Yes , THX mode is dark , but if it's trying to reproduce the authentic colors of a movie , which you'd watch in a really dark movie theater , I don't have a problem with it not being suitable for a very brightly-lit room . Speaking of the bright room , I have had no problems with glare . This is so much so that I don't know what people are talking about when complaining about plasma and glare . The anti-reflective coating on this screen seems to be very effective . The first day I set up this TV , a friend and I watched parts of Live Free or Die Hard and Casino off of Dish Network in HD ( 1080i ) . We were both simply in awe of the picture quality and colors , and he is someone who is on his third plasma TV and has been riding the wave from the beginning . He thought this is the best picture quality ( for non-blu-ray ) and color he has seen on an HD set , period . Upconverted DVDs look good , but Dish Network's HD 1080i movies look better . I can't wait to receive my Blu-ray player and try a real 1080p source . I will update my review then . The delivery took place on the promised day . The guy unpacked the TV , installed it on its pedestal ( with my help , since it requires two people ) and we placed it on the table . Pretty impressive for free delivery . This white glove service costs $200 on top of delivery charges on other sites . All in all , I am very impressed with this set and with Amazon's delivery . I would certainly recommend it and encourage buying it from Amazon .
      • 014 4  Hopefully , I can save you some time . I spent about a year researching and continually trying to justify why my 50 Mitsu projection tv was still worthy . Last week , I finally pulled the trigger and this tv absolutely rocks . It is beyond amazing . I was watching a movie ( X-MEN Final Stand ) the other night ( THX mode ) and paused it twice and said to my wife , can you believe this tv is in our house ? I had my family over this weekend . Within 15 minutes my brother asked me how I knew this was the best tv to buy . I told him about the research I did , that combined with the picture he was looking at convinced him to order one for himself . He bought it yesterday . The NBA playoffs , baseball , hockey , hey I even watched auto racing . . . Just unreal . I had no idea what I was missing until this tv arrived . I strongly considered the new LED LCD SAMSUNG'S . The 1.2 depth and picture are very good , but it came down to a few simple things . Overall value , absolute amazing picture , best refresh rate and viewing angles . All that and the brightness of LCD's helped me go with plasma and the right decision for me was the G10 . . . This is the one . We added the Bose 321 GS sound . We have a small room and did not want lots of wires , etc . Sound rocks . My wife's big deal was she wanted to be able to hear people talking in a movie and still hear the action all around . This system , though expensive delivers . I hope this info helps . I appreciated all the feedback left by other's and wanted to share my thoughts too .
      • 036 4  I had the best Sony Wega 27 inch TV for years , so entering the digital era , I sought to buy a top brand LCD for my money , probably a 37 or 42 inch . Fortunately for me , my product reading took me into everything including those plasmas , which in my mind meant BIG and EXPENSIVE . When I started to shop I noticed the plasmas were not nearly as bright as the LCD sets , but true they were big and not as expensive as I thought . The more I read the more I found that videophiles and home-theater types seem to prefer plasmas . And to my surprise the LCD sets we looked at had fast action blurs that really bothered my wife , who really wanted to see Wimbeldom on a new set . So we rented a plasma TV to see if we could like it ( highly recommend this ) . We rented the LG 50 720p plasma and fell in love with it . The glare problem wasn't too bad at all , and the color was amazing . The more I researched and read about plasmas the more distant I felt toward LCDs . To be honest , I could be happy with the newer LEDs or even the latest LCDs , but they did cost more . And I had been spoiled with the large 50 screen . I really wanted a LG , but the research indicated that Panasonic was the best in plasmas . Now , having bought this Panasonic G10 50 inch plasma I can now say that the research was on target for me . The plasma set is everything I could have wanted , AND MORE ! It is a visual feast . Some seem to like this model because of the THX mode , and due to the research that is the main reason I bought this rather than the S or X model . I was a little intimidated about calibration and possible burn-in . Don't be if you consider this plasma ! It is easy to self calibrate this Panasonic just like you like it . No burn-in problems at all , just like the research said . Some indicated that the sound wasn't loud enough , but to me it too is quite adequate ( I have home theater hooked up , but use TV speakers for news ) . This television gives me pleasure and that is what is important for you also . I admit that I am highly influenced by customer opinion and that I seek out expert reviews . So glad I did . If I had it to do over again , I might even consider the 54 inch Panasonic plasma . It is very true-bigger is better . I bought the Panasonic home theater at the same time , the SC-BT200 which I also rate 5 stars . One other thing : I bought this from Amazon due to their great pricing and found the delivery company very good and even helped set it up .
      • 037 4  I have to comment on the amazing delivery service provided by Amazon . I ordered this TV Wednesday 5 / 27 , in the afternoon . The delivery service , Pilot , called on Thursday 5 / 28 , to set up a delivery date . I was watching the TV on Friday 5 / 29 by 2 : 00 PM . The delivery service was very professional , in that they unpacked the set , assembled the base , placed it in position , checked that all was working properly , and took out all the trash . I still cannot comment very much about the TV , since I only have been watching it for a few hours . So far it is everything I expected and more .
      • 044 4  I've owned this TV for about a month , and have watched a variety of high def material on blu-ray and high def channels . Overall , I think this is an outstanding plasma TV and a great value . Black values are great . Image quality is crisp . Sports look great , no problems at all that I can see with scanning rates on sports / high speed action activity . The 3 : 2 pulldown for 24 frame per second film material works well . I've got a very large window right behind my viewing area , and the although there are some reflections on the glass , the anti-reflective coating is much better than my last TV , and as good as any I have seen . I also have my iMac connected with an HDMI cable ( using a DVI to HDMI adapter ) and the picture is outstanding . I'm able to watch high def video rentals from Netflix , Amazon , and iTunes . The only negatives are : Speakers point down and are a bit weak , but I use my surround sound system for all the audio , so not a big issue for me . I agree with other reviews that the light output of the THX setting is too low . Perhaps in a perfectly dark screening room it would work . But in a typical viewing room , the THX images are not bright enough . However , I was able to achieve excellent color and better light output using the custom settings and am very pleased with the results .
      • 049 4  This is a fantastic set . No doubt about it . Here are some thoughts for those looking into this TV . - This plasma is not going to work well in a brightly lit room or one with a lot of sun light . - It has zero input lag , so it will work well with games like the XBox 360 or PS3 . - Standard Def TV it upconverted well . - Blue Ray movies ? Simply awesome ! - The speakers are OK , nothing great . But then again , most people ( like me ) will hook this puppy up to an AV receiver anyway . - Image quality is awesome ! - This TV is very fast at processing images . I have not seen any evidence of dropped pixels or other image quality issues with the XBox or Blue Ray . Its just smooth and will look better then they do in the store . - No image retention issues at all . - Delivery was handled quite well . Just sit back , relax and enjoy !
      • 051 4  A neighbor and I ( combined age close to 100 ) got this out of the box , screwed into its ( included ) stand , and onto a table in about 15 minutes . The TV itself weighs about 70 lbs . and is easy to handle . The picture and sound are great , fed with a 1080i signal via HDMI from a Verizon FiOS set-top box . The remote control could use some re-thinking . If you are fumbling with the remote in the dark , there is a switch to turn on the button backlight . The switch is right next to the Power button . The critical Mute button is the same size and shape as a couple dozen other buttons , many of which aren't very frequently used . I like the fact that the TV comes with a pre-calibrated THX picture setting for movies . Calibrating a television with custom settings for accurate color rendition is not something that I want to spend hours doing .
      • 053 4  Finally , after a lot of reviews and investigation I decided to purchase this TV . I had been investigating some of the LED models especially the back lit ones from LG and Toshiba . The LG 47LH90 was on sale from Sears at a decent price along with its home theater but somehow it got sold out pretty quickly . Hearing that the LED tv's match the quality of plasma with lower power consumption I got attracted to them . Unfortunately , I couldn't find the backlit LED's at a decent price and hence had to fall back to a plasma . Earlier this year I had read raving reviews of Panasonic 50PZ85U and saw that at local Costco for $1299 but it got sold before they discounted the price further . Anyway , the 50PG10 is latest version of the same model and had similar reviews from hometheatermag so I looked at that . After a lot of research , I finally pulled the trigger when Amazon offered very sweet deal during the black friday week . The TV arrived yesterday and I hooked it up with a local antenna ( we dont have cable ) and a PS3 that also arrived yesterday . I was worried about the brightness of the TV - if it would be good enough as the reviews in general complained about it . Fortunately , I had no issues with the brightness and it was pretty decent for the ambient lighting I had at my place . I tried netflix streaming ( Pan's Labyrinth ) through PS3 and found that the quality was amazing - later realized that netflix uses HD when the equipment supports HD . Next I tried my favorite Gladiator DVD and Resident Evil ( 2nd part ) . Gladiator has very rich colors and the first battle scene gives a pretty good idea about the quality of the tv . Again , I was pleased with what I saw in the THX mode . The Vivid mode had better brightness but caused to wash out certain areas . Next , I reviewed the fight in the church scene from Resident Evil and capability of the tv amazed me in terms of handling the contrast . Most of the other tv's never could handle the contrast of this scene very well . In all , I am very impressed with this TV so far . It also seems that PS3 has very good upconversion for DVD's . I will post more after review some of my favorite movies that would test this unit . In particular , here are the movies that I am going to review : Spiderwick Chronicles Narnia Spiderman 3 Beowulf Underworld Evolution Golden Compass Ice Age 2 Cars
      • 055 4  First , let me say the tv is amazing . It has to be of the best HDTV avaialable . The picture is amazing and I would absolutely purchase the tv again . The sound is ok , but I usually use a my home theater for the sound , which is a must if you are you are going to buy a Tv of this quality . The picture is best when using a blu-ray , then you really see the difference in picture from anything else . Also sports look incredible and zero blurring the motion is crisp and detailed . The Viera cast is really cool and the picture is very good , but not quite blu-ray . However , the sound is only stereo on viera cast . Also no netflix on the viera cast yet . I paid for two day shipping and Ceva ( the shipping company ) did not deliver on time , in fact they were a pain to deal with . I called amazon and asked where the tv was and they called ceva for me and refunded the shipping with out hestitation . The money was refunded within one day . Amazon customer service was great , but ceva was a nightmare to deal with .
      • 068 4  The images are crisp , clear and life like . The picture colors are vibrant , the sound quality is excellent . The set-up only took few minutes , and hookups were easy and clearly defind . The TV arrived when promised and in excellent shape .
      • 070 4  I purchased this Panasonic Plasma on April 2 , 2009 from Amazon . The TV quit working about 95 days later and it took Panasonic 3 weeks to provide two boards to repair . A few weeks later the same problem occurred and the TV quit again . Now Panasonic has had the set for almost 3 weeks . It seems they are having problems with the same board ( s ) . This is my first experience with Panasonic and it has not been a good one ! Update : Panasonic has had this for 5 weeks and can not get the parts to repair ! Do not buy this TV if you want to watch it !
      • 090 4  The TV arrived with a little confusion by the dispatcher communications , but was received on the day promised by a very polite and helpful driver . The picture clarity is very good , but the controls need a little getting used to by experimentation . The guide book is a little confusing and the remote instructions are a bit lacking . The look is sleek and the value is good .
      • 091 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) After a couple of mnoths with this TV , I couldn't be happier . I did months of research and this was definitely the best TV for the money . I hooked up to a PS3 and Yamaha 7.1 receiver so my son is in seventh heaven . I'm even amazed at how good non-HD channels look on it .
      • 098 4  Although this is my first HD TV I can only say that I am very pleased with the Panasonic Series TC-P50G10 I purchased from Amazon.com . With the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics just ahead I wanted to have a new TV in place and I don't believe that for the dollar spent I could not have purchased a better one . Jim
      • 102 4  The TV is great ! I love the picture . The color is wonderful ; clear and crisp . The sound is pair with any other TV , nothing to brag about , but ok for watching TV . I personally went to a serious surround sound , but my personal opinion . The thing weights close to 80 pounds so make sure you get a GOOD mount or stand . Do NOT skimp on this part ! I put mine on the wall out of the reach of small fingers and my mount called for 6 serious lag bolts into 2 different studs and is rated for up to a 65 TV . Also , get somebody to help put it up . . . you don't want to drop your new toy ! I called my brother-in-law as he owed me a favor . To really see this TV at its peak potential , grab yourself a Blu-Ray player and a new movie : Star Trek , a Discovery Channel special , or something else that is cutting edge with special effects ! I can't wait to see Avatar on my TV . . . Solid recommendation . I have NO issues with this TV and it's been on the wall for a month . I play video games on it for hours at a time , including COD : MW2 , MAG , and Assassin's Creed 2 without issues .
      • 113 4  I did a lot of research before purchasing this TV and found that it was a very good purchase . The picture is very good for the price . My only two complaints are : 1 . as with most TVs like this one , the border around the screen is shiny and reflects any light 2 . I wish it had a couple more inputs , I ran out of RCA inputs ( red , white , yellow cords ) far to quickly .
      • 143 4  To be totally honest , my first intention was to buy Panasonic 50 1080p professional display . For the last 2 years , I've been enjoying 40 720p from PPDC ( Panasonic Professional Display Company ) and wanted an upgrade - both in terms of screen size and resolution . Apparently , pro monitors / displays are no longer best kept secret in TVs , so they became very expensive . I purchased TC-P50G10 from Amazon just couple of weeks ago and extremely happy with my choice . Picture quality & colors are just phenomenal ! Amazon and its freight forwarder ( Pilot ) , as always , did a great job by shipping TV very quickly and delivering it to my apartment when it was convenient for me .
      • 155 4  I bought this to replace a stolen Panny 50 720p plasma that I was very happy with . This item cost about 1 / 3 more than the equivalent 720p replacement but the reviews convinced me to spring for a little extra . I'm not unhappy , but I'm not overwhelmed either . Picture is gorgeous , but so was the cheaper 720p version in my relatively small living room . I have to talk myself into thinking that this TV looks better than the stolen one . Sometimes I succeed , sometimes I fail . Biggest con : the sound is tinny and cheap sounding . If you have an external amp + speakers ( I do ) , plan to use them routinely instead of just when you want to watch a movie . The TV that was stolen sounded so good that I occasionally had to look to see if the external amp was on or if I was listening to the internal speakers . If you DON'T have an external amp / speakers , factor buying some into your purchase price if you choose this item . You will find the audio quality almost too poor to watch the Weather Channel . I really like this TV , but Panasonic cut serious corners in the audio department . And in a small space , 720p seems to be about as good as 1080p , even at the 50 screen size .
      • 158 4  Great TV except for the sound quality . Too much buzz in bass and high tones . OK at lower levels . Bad as volume is increased .
      • 173 4  the only thing I would ask for , in addition is , on a non HD channles , the picture is streched , all the skinny actresses looks a bit fat : ) I think no other TV is doing that as well .
      • 187 4  This unit weighs roughly 75 pounds , and it comes unattached to its base . Installing it requires two strong men who know what they are doing even when it is to be placed on a table or TV stand-the TV must be lifted onto the base and then screwed to it . Hanging it on a wall would probably require three men . The Panasonic tech people demonstrated no interest in helping me connect this device to another product called TV Ears which broadcasts to a set of headphones . TV Ears requires an audio out socket which the Panasonic lacks . I tried all of the audio sockets on the Panasonic , and none worked . The picture quality is excellent although initially our Charter Cable installer attached the Panasonic to the set top box with RCA cables . The result is what appears to be a 720p image . This unit ( and undoubtedly all 1080p sets ) requires an HDMI cable . This information is provided in passing with no particular emphasis in the poorly written Panasonic manual . Overall , getting this unit to work with the other components in our system has taken weeks of effort , roughly a dozen e-mails , and multiple trips to local stores . If I knew when I bought it how irritating and expensive the process would be , I would have waited for my ordinary television to wear out .
      • 191 4  Absolutely HORRIBLE experience - I will NEVER buy Panasonic again ! Like everyone who spends this kind of money on a TV , I researched and researched forever before buying this P.O.S . It arrived on a Thurs afternoon and was dead by the next night ! There I was watching the Yankee game and the TV just shut off . I thought it was some kind of fluke , so I went to turn it back on and nothing happened . Being brand new , I was still learning all of the features - - perhaps I had triggered some sort of timer or sleep mode ? No . I scoured the manual ( which , incidentally is worthless ) and found nothing . I got on Panasonic's website and found nothing worthwhile . So I called the 1 - 800 # and had someone troubleshoot with me . It took them all of 2 minutes to get to the part where they said there's nothing that can be done - we need to schedule a service call . I was irate that a brand new TV needed to be serviced , but after waiting so patiently for it to arrive , I didnt want to go through the arduous process of finding another TV . So attempted to schedule the repair on a TV that was barely 24 hours old - - they said it would be more than a week before the service tech could come out to look at it . I promptly called Amazon and scheduled a return - that has proven to be another nightmare . The pickup company ( Pilot ) had me wait at home from noon - 5pm and never showed . When I called , they said they were running late and would be there by 6 : 30pm . At 6 : 20 , I called again and was told the truck broke down and they would have to reschedule for the following day noon - 5pm again . I told them I cannot continue to take 1 / 2 days off from work in the hopes of them arriving . After contacting Amazon , they arranged for a late afternoon pickup ( after 4pm ) the following day . I will certainly NEVER again order an item like this from Amazon - after all of the inconvenience and aggravation , I have received nothing more than a scripted I certainly do apologize for any inconvenience . Bottom line : the TV was good ( GOOD , not great ) while it worked but it died * 1 * day after I got it . I agonized over the decision between Samsung and Panasonic - - now I know I made the wrong choice . All of the reviews talked about pic quality and features - I never even considered reliability ( or lack of , as it turns out ) .

    • 182 4  After reading countless reviews on many other products and manufacturers that delayed my purchase for a good month , I actually settled on the G10 50 - inch unit . However the day I ordered on Amazon I received an email from the supplier telling me that the unit was out of stock and would not be available for at least 7 - 10 days . This was unacceptable given I was moving into a new home and wanted everything installed before furniture arrived but no problem . I had already saved over $300.00 on the purchase from this supplier and then they offered to upgrade me to the G15 at no additional charge for another $400.00 in savings . This was my first plasma purchase / experience and I must say I am still having fun playing with all the tweeks . I added the Panasonic 7.1 Blu Ray surround sound system and together with the television I am in viewing heaven . Great quality picture , very easy to use and set up and great value . The on board TV sound is good and provides a nice alternative when you want to keep things quiet in the house . But the ease of use with the integration of the 7.1 and BOOM , you are good to go . Since we are still in the process of moving in I have not connected the internet piece yet but am anxious to do so in the coming days ahead . But even without it I am extremely pleased .
      • 034 4  Overall , a great TV at a great price . I'm not going to bore you with a bunch of positives you've read a hundred times , so I'll just leave you with one caveat . Panasonic's plasmas have a little known reputation of degrading contrast ratio over time . This is caused by the black levels or minimum luminescence levels inexplicably increasing with hours of use . That is to say the color black is nice and deep when the TV is new , but it becomes increasingly gray once you attain a few hundred hours of use . As of now , no one knows why this happens , or if it's effecting every single unit , but it seems to be affecting a fair number of users both with these ' 09 models and several from prior years . You can read about the problem here : [ . . . ] It has unfortunately affected my unit , and it's pretty noticeable . The Contrast Ratio was cut in half at about 400 hours of use and the TV now looks like an average quality LCD in a dark room .
      • 042 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) For those undecided on which set to buy in the 46 - 52 size , look no further . I looked and researched for 2 months before I decided on this beauty . The picture is spot on right out of the box.I'm sure that some tweaking of the custom settings will help even further but I intend to allow a break-in period before I attempt that . I would say a $300 professional calibration is unnecessary on this particular HDTV . Invest in a midlevel Blu-Ray player with the dough ( Panasonic's Bd60 is a solid choice ) . The audio is very adequate for regular viewing contrary to other reviews . For true home theatre nirvana though , a decent receiver that decodes HD audio is a must . When I finish my home theatre it will be very hard to leave home for the local cinema .
      • 043 4  For those undecided on which set to buy in the 46 - 52 size , look no further . I looked and researched for 2 months before I decided on this beauty . • 081 4  After doing much research and finally pulling the trigger and buying Panasonic's V10 plasma model , I was shocked to recently find many widespread reputable reports that black levels on Panasonic 2008 and 2009 model plasmas may double or in some cases triple after approximately 1000 hours of use . At this point I can only wish I had found this information before I made my purchase , so I'm passing it on to anyone else who may be considering any of these models . My V10 picture is fantastic at the moment , but I can only wait in fear that I may have spent $2K dollars on something that will lose one of it's best qualities after only months of normal use . The issue is described and commented in detail here : [ . . . ] Good Luck ! ! ! !

    • 186 4  Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Got the TV 30 days ago and it works as expected but have a couple operational questions not clear in the manual so have been trying for over 2 weeks to get thru to Panasonic Concierge tech support - what a joke . Have sat on hold for several hours multiple times and they just ignore the calls and never answer the phone . Also have sent email questions that they first responded to a question I didn't ask and second time gave the wrong answer . . . now they just ignore the message and you don't get any response . Amazon is trying to get them to contact me but nothing so far . My bigger concern is if I need warranty service - thought I'd test that but customer service won't answer either . Do NOT buy a Panasonic TV from any vendor until you try to call the service line first to see if you can even get someone to take your call . Concierge service is 1 - 877 - 958 - 4372 or 1 - 800 - 973 - 4390 . Customer Service / Sales is 1 - 800 - 973 - 4326 or 1 - 800 - 211 - 7262 . Good Luck but I'd look at a Sony or Samsung if I had it to do over . I do not blame Amazon but once you own it , you are stuck with dealing with No Service Panasonic .

      • 112 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I did a lot of research before purchasing this TV and found that it was a very good purchase . The picture is very good for the price . My only two complaints are : 1 . as with most TVs like this one , the border around the screen is shiny and reflects any light 2 . I wish it had a couple more inputs , I ran out of RCA inputs ( red , white , yellow cords ) far to quickly .
      • 120 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I purchased a Viera G - 10 42 first and loved everything about it however the size was a little smaller than I expected and it just didn't fill my living room . So I moved the 42 to my bedroom and purchased a 50 . Now all I can say is I thought the 42 was beautiful . . . the 50 is even better . You won't be disappointed . * Note - if you have a lot of ambient light in your viewing area , this may not be the TV for you . My living room is floor to ceiling and wall to wall windows for 2 / 3 of the room and you do need to pull the shades to get the best picture or switch it to vivid . For early morning or late evening though , the picture is remarkable !

    • 192 4  I have a 52 panasonic tv that is less then 2 years old resently it has just turned off all by itself and will not work unless it is unplugged for 15 - 30 min.s and then it just turns off again after less than and hour of it being turned on it , has been doing this for 2 weeks now , I called panasonic and they gave me the numbers of 2 service centers in my area , AFTER BEING ON HOLD WITH THEIR SERVICE LINE FOR NEARLY 2 HOURS ( and if you live in an area where there are no service centers your basicly screwed ) , neither of which would answer their phones , my tv now will not turn on at all . It did not over heat it is not in the sun and there was no power surge to cause this . I have continued to call panasonic for their help but they have told me the tv is past the 1 year warranty and there are limited options right now . One of the service centers finnaly called me back and the MINNIMUM cost of repair for something like this is 400 - 500 $ $ $ and he said he sees this all the time more than not with these tv's ! ! ! ! ! Look around on-line flatscreen and plasmas are KNOWN for doing this and yet no one mentions this before you buy it ! ! ! So if you plan on spending some money on a tv get the longest warranty that is offered because this will more than likely happen to you and panasonic does NOTHING to back their products or to help their customers ! ! ! ! ! Buy a tv through a company that has a good warranty and has good customer service NOT PANASONIC ! ! ! !

      • 194 4  After doing a month or so of research I decided to go with the Panasonic 50 G10 Plasma . I ordered from Amazon and the T.V . shipped from a company called Datavision . I received the T.V . just over a week later . It was delivered via UPS . When I opened the box I found the T.V . to be in terrible condition . The packing material was broken up , the screen was shattered , and the rear of the T.V . was dented in . I contacted Datavision to begin the return process . It took two phone calls to get a return order issued . The first person I spoke with said he submitted a return order but when I called back a couple of days later they stated there was no record of my first call . A few days after that FedEx was at my door and took the T.V . A week later I got my refund . I also contacted Amazon and they told me to call them back if I didn't have any luck dealing with Datavision . In the end I was left feeling that both Amazon and Datavision really did want to make sure I was taken care of . BTW , I think UPS is at fault here . It's my opinion that they aren't that careful with packages .
        • 088 4  With new found riches of my tax return in my pockets , I performed an extensive search for a new television . At first I favored LCD , however , I chose plasma based upon reviews indicating the excellence of the picture . I purchased a 50 Panasonic TC-P50G10 plasma television along with a Panasonic SC-BT300 home theater system and I am very impressed with the picture and sound quality . The colors are strong and natural . The blacks are deep and the contrast very good . The audio is strong with blu ray , standard dvd , and regular televsion . I have an extensive library of black and white movies which play well on this television . I watch a great deal of older movies on TCM and I am very happy with the picture and audio . My stress levels have now eased with the knowledge I made the right purchase .
        • 117 4  Our trusty 50 Toshiba projection tv finally died on us after 12 years . This was a joy to watch and was great until the end . I started my search for a tv that would bring us as much joy . I compared LED tv's with plasma and almost went with the LED because our son told us that would be the best tv . Well , I trusted my gut and ordered the plasma . Received a good price and some special offers with the purchase like TiVo and a credit with Amazon to use with the TiVo . The tv was delivered as promised and the delivery guys helped us set it up , even though they weren't supposed to . I have had it set up for a month now and absolutly love the tv and the TiVo . This is a quality product and I would not hesitate to recomend it to anyone .
        • 168 4  I was late to the HD plasma party and now I can't believe I waited this long . Watching the French Open tennis tournament on this thing is almost as good as being there live . The picture quality is superb and the price was right . Highly recommended .

      • Amazon on demand . To me you get much more with Netflix . If Panasonic and Netflix signup that would be awesome . But I will show you another way on how to get Netflix on your TV later . You get instant weather , which is cool . You can also set it to different locations . Maybe you are going to travel and you need the weather update for where you are going . Now you can get it right on your TV . Blomberg for stocks . Which I love . I check everyday just to go over the headlines for the day . I even check some stock symbols . You Tube . You can watch You Tube videos on your TV . I setup my account so I can have access to my You Tube videos on the TV . So if someone comes over and I want to show them my You Tube videos , I just have a couple of clicks to do and then they can see my videos on my TV . Sweet . Searching and typing on the remote is like typing on a cell phone . So if you text a lot on a cell phone using the remote is not that bad . Just slow . They also have support for Google Picasa . This service is great . I upload pictures from my computer to Google Picasa web album . Then from my TV through Vera cast I setup my account for Google Picasa . I can watch all my Pictures on the TV even in slid show . I love it . It brings all my pictures from my computer to my TV . Let me share with you my setup : I use Linksys Powerline AV network kit ( PLK300 ) as the bridge which works great . It uses the home electrical power lines to communicate . I have my wireless router upstairs with my PC . I have my Linksys Powerline adapter connected to that router . Downstairs I have the other Linksys 4port Powerline adapter connected to my TV and my Blu-ray player with a network cable . The Powerline adapter downstairs communicates with the Powerline adapter upstairs through the electrical wires form the house . Pretty cool . No wires to run . I have my laptop setup with a Wireless N wireless card . It gives me faster speeds and more wireless range then the embedded wireless on the laptop . I hook up the laptop to the pc port of the TV with a standard VGA cable and a cable for sound . I can watch instantly movies and TV episodes from Netflix . Streaming seems to work great with my setup . The Veracast works great with the Powerlines . So far no issues . Bottom line I love this TV
        • 018 4  As with many others on here , I did extensive research for months on T。's before finally deciding on one . ( Why wouldn't you ? It's a lot of money ) . I weighed the Pros and Cons of Plasma vs . LCD ( LED is out of my price range so I didn't really consider them . ) I narrowed it down to Samsung LCD or Panasonic Plasma . I finally decided that the so-called issues with plasmas have been addressed , possibly over hyped even and that contrary to popular opinion , plasma was the way to go . The hardest part was deciding on which model . I decided on the G10 but the price didn't come down enough so I ordered an S series 50 from BB for $897 . They couldn't deliver to me so they offered me the G10 for $1040 ! I feel like that is an awesome deal and I'm glad I did because this TV is Amazing with a capital A . I've heard the S series is a great TV if VieraCast and THX mode isn't that important to you . Personally I wouldn't consider anything below an S series . I expected a break in period and was told that the picture wouldn't be that great at first . Well if it gets any better I will be stunned . Right out of the box it had me at hello . Sports are just _ _ _ _ _ _ insert adjective because I'm running out . Planet Earth on discovery will have you spellbound . Don't fall for the Pig in a poke mentality that says you have to go look at it in the store . I never understood why it's necessary to see it in the store first if everyone says that the stores don't do them justice with inconsistent settings ? Why waste your time talking to someone when you probably know more about it through research or reading reviews . Better yet , just read this review and take my word for it . It will save you a lot of time . No need to inspect your Pig in the poke , this Pig is better than advertised .
        • 025 4  I like Plasma T。's much better than LCD T。's . To me LCD looks to bright . I love the dark black level's of Plasma T。's.The picture on this TV is awesome . Standard cable looks the same . But HD cable like ESPN looks awesome . Watching sports in HD is the way to go . I have the video settings configure like CNET settings custom settings . I use the THX setting when watching movies . DVD's looks great . But blu-ray movies look amazing . I have all the sound going through my Harmon Kardon receiver except when watching cable . The sound for this TV has no bass . When I go from watching a movie with the receiver to watching cable with the TV sound it is not good . But I am not looking for crazy sound when watching cable TV . But I would defiantly like more bass . This TV does not run to hot . I had the TV on for over 6 hours all the hot air is blown out the top vents in the back of the TV . No fan noise . No glare at all . I think the Panasonic Viera Cast is great . When more companies signup for this it will get even better . You can see this is the future of T。's . The following have signed up with Panasonic Viera Cast : Amazon on demand . To me you get much more with Netflix . If Panasonic and Netflix signup that would be awesome . But I will show you another way on how to get Netflix on your TV later . • 030 4  All the hype now sems to be about LCD's , but this plasma is a fantastic value at around $1,500 . After lots of research I concluded that all LCDs still suffer from degradation when the viewing angle isn't straight on . So why are you going to spend $3 - 4,000 on the best Sony or Samsung when you can get this one ? Anyway , the picture is great . The TV is a snap to set up . A couple of small complaints and one that keeps the review from being five stars : 1 ) The remote feels cheap and at times is not responsive in menu mode . 2 ) THX mode looks like it has too much contrast and is not bright enough . 3 ) Sound is really lacking on this TV - I have it in the bedrooom , where I don't want external speakers , and while I can live with tinny sound , I would have paid a little more for a decent speaker panel .
        • 038 4  Panasonic definatly hit a home run with this TV . I spent an entire year in Iraq reading up on the technical specs and reviews of just about every TV I could find , because I wanted to get the most bang for my buck when I got home . I love the reviews on [ . . . ] and trust their opinion on most of the electronics I buy ( with a few exceptions ) . I was going to buy an LCD , and was very afraid to buy a plasma because of all of the horror stories you hear i.e . ; The flares on Halo 3 were so bright my plasma got fried . . . After reading the reviews and reading about the technical improvements made to plasmas I was still leery of getting one . . . I totally went with the price and cnets review and chose this one . I have to say this TV looks simply amazing ! ! ! ! ! The blacks are dark and inky , and the picture has a lot more pop than comparable tv's I have seen . I own an LCD as well , and it isn't even comparable to my panasonic . . . . I was a stickler for color as well , I have to have the color really accurate or it drives me nuts . I heard about the THX mode on this model , and was quick to try it out , and even though people were saying it is too dim , I actually enjoy it . I have my TV adjacent to a sliding glass door , and I watch it with THX on all of the time . It is noticeably dimmer , but I think everything looks way more natural than LCD screens . I recommend this TV , and would buy it again if I had to do it all over again .
        • 040 4  This is an outstanding TV . Are there better T。's out there ? Sure , but you'll end up paying multiple thousands of dollars for them for a negligible improvement over the P50G10 . The picture on this television is simply amazing . Blu-rays really pop and high-def TV won't leave you disappointed . Standard definition is acceptable , and this TV does a great job rendering the picture , but it's a let down compared to a high-def picture . The THX picture settings are a bit dark , but be assured the picture is still great . I've opted to set my unit to the custom settings as published on CNET . I find the picture to be a little brighter and still just as good as THX to the untrained eye . I'm not too crazy about the remote . Some of the buttons are too closely space , which means you may accidently hit the wrong button sometimes . However , I'm using my cable DVR remote most of the time , so it's not a major annoyance . Hoping to upgrade to the Harmony One at Christmas so I can ditch the four remotes I have now ( yikes ! ! ! ) . I can't really speak to the audio quality of the speakers . I'm running most of my sound through my HT system . I do have the audio / video from my Wii connected to the TV , and it is adequate considering the Wii is not an audio / video powerhouse . Lastly , I have to brag a little , but I got my P50G10 for $999 along with a BD60k for $269 . I was able to snag the TV and Blu-ray for cheaper than most places are selling just the TV . Also , it appears to me that the P50G15 is taking the place of the G10 . The only difference between the two is about two inches of thickness , which doesn't really justify the extra $ in my book . Buy the G10 instead , you won't be disappointed .
        • 077 4  I spent a lot of time researching before I committed and bought a TV . All major , reputable review sites recommended this TV for obvious reasons . The TV looks astonishing in THX mode , bringing out details you would miss on even more expensive sets . Another thing you do not notice once you own this TV is that skin tones become so much more natural , making the viewing experience much better . Its rich , inky blacks also make the image pop . Don't hesitate on buying this TV , it is completely worth it and you will not be disappointed .
        • 096 4  To start with , I don't play video games and I have my sound running out to two Paradigm Atom speakers , so I rated those aspects of the TV as average as I don't have any experience with them . It wouldn't be fair for me to rate them a 5 , nor would it be fair to for me to rate them a 1 . The standard-definition ( SD ) picture is as crisp as it can be blown up to 50 . Unless the SD picture is letter boxed there is some picture distortion when you watch the 4 : 3 SD image in 16 : 9 aspect ratio . This , however , is to be expected . I have a Blu-Ray DVD player , and the picture on Blu-Ray movies is absolutely stunning . The TV is THX certified , and while I'm not certain what exactly that means , when you watch a Blu-Ray movie on the THX setting it displays the colors , resolution and brightness level in such a way that it looks like you are viewing the movie in a theater . The THX setting does such a good job of displaying the image that you can use the THX setting for regular TV viewing and not have to mess around with adjusting the brightness , sharpness , color , tint , etc . yourself . As with most plasmas , the colors are true to life whether it be on the THX setting or on the ' normal ' TV setting . It produces the deep blacks and bright whites that plasmas are known for and the nuance in color that allows plasmas to create a much more life-like picture than the super bright , and dare I say artificially bright , LCD T。's . All in all , this is a great TV with a fantastic picture . Don't worry about sound quality , no TV , IMO , provides good sound as their speakers are too small . If you want good sound , buy a decent set of speakers or better yet a home theater system . As for price , I checked Best Buy and Wal-Mart , and for the size , the 600 MHZ subfield drive , being THX certified , and being a Panasonic ( great reputation ) , no other TV comes close . This is a great deal on a great TV . Period . Don't take my word for it , do some ' Googling ' of this TV ( TC-P50G10 ) and read the reviews . This is one of the top rated HD T。's of 2009 .
        • 144 4  I purchased my Panasonic 50G10 on Jne 21st and have to say it is as good as any of the reviews . Everyone who sees it for the first time remark at the great colors and go on from their with praise after praise as they compare it to their LCD tvs . I got a real good deal at Sears with a price match and paid 1249.00 for it . If you are thinking of buying a big screen tv look no further .
        • 147 4  The picture quality of this television is superb . The anti-reflection coating on the plasma is outstanding . I have a very bright room with lots of glare , and it is rarely an issue despite the glossy screen . The reviews are right that THX mode is a bit on the dim side , but in a dark room it is more than bright enough . I find that I use the standard mode more often than the THX mode . VierraCast is a nice little gimmick , but not necessary at all . The sound quality from the actual television is atrocious , so don't plan on using it as a standalone unit ; surround sound is a must ! I am still very happy with this TV after 2 months .
        • 176 4  Out of the box , picture looks great . THX mode is a bit dark if there is a lot of ambient light . Easily hooks into Google Picasaweb albums . Great for PS3 games and blue-ray movies . So far its best tv I've seen for around $1700 .
        • 180 4  The TV is awesome with lots of adjustable features including picture , sound , etc . It is everything I had hoped for .

      • Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) Appearance is great .
        • 047 4  I was concerned with a few things when buying a big screen tv . 1 . Do I have to change my cable service - no you don't . I kept my basic cable and got a number of channels in 1080i and 720p . You just have to run the normal set up of letting the tv search for channels which took about 10 - to 15 minutes or longer if I remember . 2 . I hate the complexity of using some set ups with cable boxes and complex remotes etc . I ran the cable right into the tv and it's so easy to use my wife has no problem at all even with the viera cast and renting movies etc . I have a blu ray player and an older dvd and vcr combo hooked up . We record shows on the vcr and they're watchable . We also have everything hooked up to a monster home theatre surge protector which works great and even cleans up the signal . 3 . was worried about standard definition tv and if it would be watchable - no problem the 50g does a great job with sd tv channels 4 . I have a small room and wanted to use the sound on the tv - for us it works great . If we had a big room we may have considered a surround speaker system but the sound on this is decent . 5 . what size tv to get . we sit 8 - 9 feet away and though a 50 might be too big - no way , if anything could have gone a bit larger . If you're watching blu ray or HD tv then you could go up to 65 but with sd tv 50 is a good size for 8 - 9 feet away . What I like about this set is the naturalness of the picture . It is crystal clear and looks and feels as though you are there . I never really thought of Panasonic for a TV but this may be the best on the market . No motion blur at all even with THX mode . I've seen so many lcd tv's at friends and they pop with color and contrast but they just don't look natural and after awhile are a bit hard to watch . They also still have problems with motion blur . I find no need to have this set professionally calibrated as a few tweaks to suit your taste and the picture is as Panasonic describes - STUNNING ! Don't forget , it depends on the source of your video . If watching a SD tv stations then it's ok . If watching a 1080i station it's incredible , blu ray - unbelievable . If you press ' info ' on the remote you can see the type of resolution you're watching . We've rented a number of movies with amazon and very easy . Sometimes the picture just stops which is a pain and you should expect that if renting over the internet . I wish they would get netflix on the viera cast . The weather on viera cast is helpful and you can put 5 or 6 different locations in to see what's happening at friends and family far away . I have the bd60 blu ray player by panasonic and it is outstanding . Regular dvd look great and blu ray is just out of this world . clarity , detail , naturalness of picture is stunning . We've had the set about 2 months and I wanted to wait to write a review . We did the break in period and kept the color , contrast , sharpness and brightness at around 20 to 30 and varied it a bit . you're suppose to do this for about 200 hours of use . I found the best time to buy a tv on amazon is about 2 to 3 months before thanksgiving for some reason . I think the g series is outstanding in every way . I checked with consumer reports and they were helpful and stated which sets had good sound . Sound can very with different sizes in the same series . These sets were rated as very good . Don't hesitate to buy this tv - don't know how much better the picture can get . We have no problem with brightness at all and the colors are just spot on . If the sun is shining directly on the screen it effects the picture , and we have to shut the curtain , but we don't seem to have any problems with glare other than that . While watching some blu rays , you feel like you're in the picture or actually there on scene . If you want to wait till the new models come out , keep you're eye on panasonic and read the reviews in cnet and consumer reports . I'd be happy to answer any questions if I can - just put them in comments . Update : March 5 , 2010 We've had the set for over 3 months now and it seems like the picture is getting even better . When I'm watching abc or nbc or one of the stations that come in on 1080i the picture is just stunning . It is so natural and clear it is like being there . I have never even noticed any motion blur of any type whatsoever with this set . I think the monster home theater power center helps to clean up the signal over cable and would recommend it to anyone with any type of TV . Blu ray on the 50g is jaw dropping as many have said . This is a wonderful investment and I would keep an eye on the new panasonic models and read consumer reports and cnet and you can't go wrong . Maybe there are some of the 50g left at a reasonable price . I hope Panasonic keeps making this model but will probably replace with something new .
        • 060 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I looked at Sony and Samsung but decided to buy this Panasonic because of value for my money . At a good price , it included a [ . . . ] to cover the cost of the Panasonic Blu Ray player . Sure , if money was no object just get the biggest and the best . There is no need for me to go into all the technical details or the pros and cons of this plasma as many reviewers have already done so . The picture quality is amazing ; I set it on the THX mode . I used the factory default setting as it was optimized for the average eyesight and I am average . If your eye sight is a little more challenged , there are adequate adjustments to tone it up . Excellent TV for the $ $ $ , very happy with this purchase and I highly recommend it . Update : 6 Sep 2009 . Tv still works great and the picture quality is stunning . Amazon got the best price , delivery service and customer service . Delivered on time with no problems . I will buy from Amazon again . Thank you for the great service .
        • 069 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I purchased this Panasonic Plasma on April 2 , 2009 from Amazon .
        • 082 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) Appearance is great .

      • Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) Back in June , I was looking at the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and several Samsung LCD's . I was pretty sold on the Panasonic since I have an older 42 Panny Plasma that I have been very happy with . However , I took a trip to the local American TV store and I have to say I was more impressed with several Sony LCD's hanging next to the Panny Plasma . They looked brighter and more crisp showing KungFu Panda . I had a hard time deciding , but after reading many rave reviews of the Panasonic and much advice not to judge a TV in the showroom ( AND a much smaller price tag than the Samsung AND a free BluRay player ) , I decided I couldn't pass it up and got the TC-P50G10 from Amazon . The TV was delivered by Pilot Freight . There was only 1 older gentleman delivering it and I had to help him carry the TV in , but otherwise no issues . I was very happy with the TV and the picture was fantastic . However , upon closer inspection , I noticed 1 dead pixel and 24 of what I would call misaligned pixels that were black from certain angles . Amazon was very helpful and agreed to send me a replacement . The TV was out of stock and I had to wait a couple months for delivery , but since I had the old TV , I didn't mind at all . A few weeks ago , I had the new TV delivered by CEVA - still 1 guy and I had to help him bring it in , but hey - at least I know he didn't drop it that way . The new TV is perfect - no dead pixels and the picture is fantastic ( seems even better than the old one - may be the newer build date or just my imagination ) . In any case I seriously find myself watching the picture thinking - wow - that looks absolutely fantastic ! and I have to rewind to see the part of the show I missed while I was oggling the picture . I can't compare it to the Samsung LCDs since I didn't try them in home , but I am very pleased with the Panny . A couple things I can comment on : Many say the THX mode is too dim . I don't agree - in a very few , very dark shows / movies it may be a little dim , but for the vast majority of shows it looks great - even during the day . Once the TV is totally broken in I may switch over to Custom mode , but for now I'm fine with THX . Also , there are some complaints of flickering in the 24p mode at 48hz . I do see a little flickering in bright scenes at the biginning of the movie , but after a minute or so I don't even notice it any more and I don't think it is any worse than I see in a movie theater - ymmv . I do have to say though that I don't see much improvement over the 60hz mode any way since it already looks great . Burn-in issues are in my opinion not an issue any more . I've never had any permanent problems with my 3 year old 42 plasma , but when I do weekly upgrades of my DirecTv software , the logo is on the screen for several minutes and I do notice the logo for a few seconds after the screen changes before it disappears . The new 50G10 does not have this at all - I haven't seen even the slightest hint of image retention even in situations where the old TV does show it . I think you would have to seriously abuse the TV to have any issues at all . That said , if you are a serious gamer ( I'm not ) , you probably want to take it easy the first 100 - 200 hours and vary the games you play every hour or so . The anti-glare coating seems to be better than my old 42 plasma as well . The lights from the other room that would sometimes reflect on the old T。
's screen are not noticable on the G10 . I have the screen angled away from the window , so even in daylight , I don't see any reflection issues . I can't comment on the speakers since I use a surround sound system . Basically for the price - this TV is fantastic . I highly recommend it . Also , if you are buying , I highly recommend buying from Amazon ( and not an Amazon merchant ) since you get free in home delivery and the 30 return policy .
        • 003 4  I've been researching flat panel T。's for about a year now , and thru showroom viewing , friends ' recommendations , online reviews ( purchasers and experts ) , and Consumer Reports , I had narrowed my field down to Sony LCD Z - and XBR Series , Samsung LCD and plasma ( 550 , 650 , 750 ) , and Panasonic plasma ( PZ - 800 , PZ - 850 ) . The Sonys had great picture quality but were pricey . Samsung also had some good values but I just cannot get past the Touch of Color red accents on their mid and upper level TVs . [ Call me traditional , but I think T。's look best in black or gray . ] The Panasonic sets from last year didn't look quite as bright in the showrooms ( Best Buy , ABC Warehouse , others ) as the LCD's but I just liked the picture quality better - - more vivid colors and deeper blacks , better motion handling . The power consumption issue was a bit of a concern , but Panasonic claims that their 2009 sets are more energy efficient . The new 2009 Panasonic G10 Series TVs struck just the right value balance for me - - great bang for the buck . I've had mine for about two weeks now and I'm thrilled so far except for native sound quality ; it's good , just not as exceptional as the vivid picture . Setup was easy , adjustments straightforward , and the manual is helpful . The remote could be better , as the VieraCast buttons have a needlessly prominent location on the relatively large remote . There are backlit buttons for Volume and Channel , but unfortunately the button to activate the backlighting is small and unlit . Small matter . Anyway , standard Cable , HD and DVD picture quality is really good and BluRay is nothing short of amazing . The SD Card viewer is cool , too . I'm not noticing any significant trouble with screen glare , even though my set's in a bright room ; I was waayy overworried about that pre-purchase . Overall , I've been very happy with my Panasonic TC-P50G10 with no regrets .

        • 026 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I'd read all the reviews and from what everyone else was saying this was a great HDTV . And when you go to a store to look at all the T。's it really can be a little overwhelming . But when you get this TV home and plug it into your Blue-Ray . . . Holy Smokes ! It's sweet . I was vacilating all over the place between various T。's but once I saw this in my living room I was very happy with my decision . I'm sure there's alot of other nice T。's out there as well , but one thing's for sure - they can't be much better , if at all . Besides , the price on this from Amazon was really impressive - the other T。's I think would compare with it were more expensive . So I feel this is maximum bang for the buck . I'm very Happy with this Panasonic TC-P50G10 TV and with Amazon as a vendor .

        • 085 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I purchased this TV almost a year ago . It has had some disappointments but it was in my expatiation of the reviews and specs . My biggest concern now is that Panasonic is going to disappoint all of us that had paid a quite of bit of money for their products that has Viera Cast the last two years . Well I am talking about the our T。's and other products are not upgradable for Netflix and most likely every new streaming feture that they are adding to their Viera Cast , ( That's going to be in the 2010 + models only ) . So we are not able to steam Netflix on this TV or any pre - 2010 models of all their products . So we have to stream by other means , unless you have and 360 or the new PS3 ( the fat PS3 requires a disk that gets a little irritating when I have to get up and change it back to my game ) or add a $100 device to stream Netflix . It would be nice to just use the TV and not have to turn another device on to use power and what not . There is no telling what Panasonic is going to add to their Viera Cast lineup in the future that they are not going to add the pre - 2010 models ( or even the pre - 2011 models later on . ) This is for all devices including DVD players T。's etc . So I would not buy another Panasonic product ever again in my life I will not allow any friend to get screwed either . This is a good time to boycott Panasonic until they fixed there false advisement about Viera Cast on there old products , or even a good time to start a class action maybe . Keep in mind Panasonic that Viera Cast was one of the reasons I had purchased this TV . If i had known you were going to pull this then I would had never had purchased this TV .
        • 093 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) We purchased this TV December 2009 . From day one we have absolutely loved the picture quality . With HD reception you will be hard pressed to find a better picture . It's OK with standard definition but if your going to purchase an HD TV take advantage of it's capabilities and use HD programing ! For those of you who may be hesitating because of Plasma's reputation of having pronounced glare . . . you will be pleasantly surprised with this Plasma TV . Panasonic has reduced glare to a minimum and we actually use this TV in a room with a lot of natural light ! Another concern that some may have is the potential for burn-in ( images left on the screen from bright images ) . Well you can dismiss this too as Panasonic has dealt effectively with this old drawback of Plasma's . However , you will occassionally see images on the screen of some images but only when the screen has no video feed of any kind . These images are temporary and DO NOT affect viewing of programing at all ! We have had two party's at our home since purchasing this TV , one was the NCAA Football National Championship Game and the other was the Superbowl . The picture was a hit at both as motion is excellent on Plasma's ! I have noticed Panasonic Plasma T。's in many sports bar / restaurants leading me to believe that these T。's are not only a great value as compared to LCD's but reliable as well !

        • 095 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) To start with , I don't play video games and I have my sound running out to two Paradigm Atom speakers , so I rated those aspects of the TV as average as I don't have any experience with them .
        • 108 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I spent months leaning back and forth between a plasma and an LCD . I have a living room that is somewhere between bright and dark and was worried that a plasma wouldn't be bright enough . But this TV performs great . The anti-reflective coating works wonders as well . The sound is better than some I've heard but if you aren't running surround sound you are wasting your money . Video games look great , Blu-rays look great , sports are amazing . There might be better T。's on the market but you aren't going to find them anywhere near this price range .
        • 177 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) So , I've never reviewed a television before . In all reality , this is my first product review for amazon.com - so you may want to take this with a grain of salt . Getting that out of the way - I must say this TV is awesome . Let's break down the categories to review : Appearance : This is one slick looking motha ' fo fo . I'm impressed with the silver trim towards the bottom of the frame . As a living room centerpiece , it definitely looks great . Ease of Use : The remote and operation are intuitive and easy . Navigation through the menu system becomes second nature in just a few minutes . Integrity : Panasonic held up to what I was promised : A state-of-the-art plasma television that possess excellent aesthetic design and image quality . Picture Quality : Excellent , excellent , excellent . Some tweaking may be required to get the optimal setting you like . The THX mode is a nice option . Sound Quality : The only area I can find to really criticize the G10 is the speakers on the TV . Too much distortion and reverb for my liking . Standard Def Quality : I mean , High-Def T。's are built to show a high definition picture . So I'm not so sure this is a fair criteria to judge the TV . I think on a vast majority of high definition T。's , standard definition material is going to look a bit pixelated and blocky . Usability with Videogames : It's very easy to connect and access any videogame console you want to the G10 . Swapping between inputs with the remote is extremely easy as well . I believe this is a tremendous television that possess an excellent picture , is very user-friendly , and will provide a long-term value for anyone who purchases it .

      • Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) Finally , after a lot of reviews and investigation I decided to purchase this TV .

        • 078 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I have had this tv for about a month now and can say a few things about it .
        • 097 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) Although this is my first HD TV I can only say that I am very pleased with the Panasonic Series TC-P50G10 I purchased from Amazon.com . With the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics just ahead I wanted to have a new TV in place and I don't believe that for the dollar spent I could not have purchased a better one . Jim
        • 124 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) Replaced a Sony Projection which was a better quality projection but a complete lemon ( the optical block was replaced once and then died ) this one cost me about half . I am very impressed and although the picture colors are not as bright as the Sony , it is good . I like the modes for Game , DVD , TV etc . I also appreciate the optical audio output , although it would have been nice to control the volume output from the TV ( this messes up my remote settings ) .
        • 132 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I agonized over my choice for flat screen technology , and am VERY happy I chose the Panasonic TC-P50G10 .

        • 165 4  I bought my Panny through Amazon.com and received it quickly . The shipping Co . was great . I'd read others had problems , but I didn't . The TV is beautiful . I watched a vampire movie that was VERY dark and the blacks perfect . I have a Blu Ray player that looks beautiful w / this TV . The extra features are OK ( SD card access , internet access , etc . ) , I just don't use them much . I checked reviews on this TV before buying and they loved it and so do I .

      • Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I have been reading reviews of all the HDTVs I can get a hold of on and off-line in search of the models with the most accurate picture quality .
        • 013 4  Beyond awesome picture . Blacks are so black and the colors are perfect . There is no reason to buy any other set . LCD's with LED backlight are the only ones even close and they cost several thousand more . The Vieracast works so easy . Just plug in a cat5 from your network and your all set . One touch of the remote and you have weather , Stocks , Youtube and more . If you buy anything else just remember you bought the wrong TV . THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT .
        • 020 4  Back in June , I was looking at the Panasonic TC-P50G10 and several Samsung LCD's . The lights from the other room that would sometimes reflect on the old T。's screen are not noticable on the G10 .

        • 029 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) All the hype now sems to be about LCD's , but this plasma is a fantastic value at around $1,500 .
        • 141 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) The Panasonic TC-P50G10 delivers one of the best picture quality so far in the market .

      • Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I purchased this set about a month ago , after looking at a LOT of online reviews .

        • 058 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I won't say I have tried every feature of this television , but the picture controls , the VieraCast , and HDMI input via DirecTV and DVD players , I have .
        • 075 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I've had this TV for 3 months now and couldnt be happier .
        • 114 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) After spending a few months researching LCD and Plasma TVs and checking prices on-line and in stores , I settled on the Panasonic VIERA G10 plasma set . I needed a set that delivered an excellent picture when viewed from wide angles due to the configuration of my family room . This set delivers ! Wow ! My family and I are thrilled with the picture and we've hooked it up to an existing Bose surround sound system so the viewing experience is tremendous . The downsides : the delivery person was very unhelpful , barely spending enough time to get the set out of the box and turn it on ; the first set we ordered worked for only 3 days , then suddenly went dark with a slight burning silicon smell ! Upon close examination we found a large dent in the back upper corner of the set ( metal backing ) which must have occurred before the set was boxed up since the packaging was undamaged . 5 days delay for a local tech to show up , then he could not fix the set because he did not have the right board that was blown . Upside : I called Amazon and they were great with no questions asked and a immediate replacement set was immediately sent to my house . When it arrived the again unhelpful delivery person ( different guy ) took away the first set and brought in the new one . It has been a month and this new TV is working great . We have a Panasonic Blu-Ray player that we also ordered from Amazon.com which is connected via HDMI and it delivers an incredible movie picture and sound ! The screen is awesome for sports - my kids have commented that they feel like they are right on the field . Superb set . Great price .

        • 161 4  This T.V . is awesome , especially with a Blu Ray playing - - it looks pretty much like film ; just awesome . Make sure you grab some HDMI cables to get full resolution . . . . . the cheapies they sell here at amazon work just great & there are several postings here & on the net in general saying that its useless & a rip-off to pay for expensive brand name cables - - - I , for on , found this to be a very good $ $ $ saving tip . My T.V . & Blu Ray player connected with the cheapie cables I bought here for a couple bucks works great . Sports & T.V . are Excellent provided that the broadcast / signal is in 1080 . . . .720 broadcast / signal & normal DVD's look good , but anything under that is not too much fun . Not sure why the Fox network does not go up to 1080 like the other networks . Be aware that plasma technology is slated to be phased out , but soon to be obsolete or not , I love this T.V . & think it is superior to the LCD's & would buy again w / o hesitation .

      • Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I was concerned with a few things when buying a big screen tv .
        • 054 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) First , let me say the tv is amazing .
        • 056 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) This is our first ever hi-def TV , and at the same time we bought it , we also bought a Blu-Ray player .
        • 118 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) We love our new Panasonic TV . The picture quality is great . We haven't used the onboard speakers , so we can't say either way . It is very thin for a plasma , and produces very little heat . The glare isn't bad either , far better than a standard tube TV . The TV has plenty of connections , although we are only using the HDMI and ethernet . The Vieracast is nice , but it's a little slow , the Youtube searching is awkward , and sadly , there is no Netflix integration , unlike the Samsung TVs . However , the Amazon digital TV / movie streaming is very nice , better than DVD quality . After a few weeks , there were two stuck subpixels , but they are only visible if you put up a solid color image on the screen and don't in any way detract from the viewing . Blu ray videos look amazing . Standard def TV is also very nice , although it is our Dish DVR that is upconverting to 1080i .

Movies on Blue ray look outstanding . Vieracast needs more work . Wish they would add Netflix . Sound is a little week , but connecting it HT system works great . AVCHD on a SD card from my Canon HD camcorder never worked . It did not find any movies on the card . Also wish the pictures on SD card could be resized to fit the screen . I had my TV delivered to California using Pilot . Contrary to most users experience with Pilot shipping , they never did any anything other than to drop the box off . No unpacking or connecting to it to a stand , no nothing . The TV was dropped on in living room and delivery guy gave me a form to sign . When I asked him if it was OK to check the TV before signing , he told me to go ahead and pulled the top off . I just checked the top part of the TV and then he was gone . It took them less 10 mins . I had to haul the 50 ' ' TV on to its stand . I guess not all delivery guys go the extra mile .
        • 193 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) After doing a month or so of research I decided to go with the Panasonic 50 G10 Plasma .

      • Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I've been researching flat panel TVs for 3 years now and had run the gamut from LCDs to Panasonic plasmas and am I glad it took me so long to make up my mind ! WooHoo !
        • 028 4  Gorgeous HDTV pictures are becoming commonplace , but this one has all the features I could want , including 3 HDMI inputs . It requires some patience to setup properly , as some of the color settings induce migraines . It has a slower refresh rate than more expensive sets , but I have yet to see any motion artifacts watching NHL hockey . This set was chosen as a replacement for my SONY projection LCD that developed color stability problems - JUST out of warranty . The manufacturer's warranties are based on a depreciating scale , and aren't worth the paper apon which they are printed . Good set , good value , DELIVERED TO MY DOOR !
        • 033 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) Overall , a great TV at a great price .
        • 050 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) A neighbor and I ( combined age close to 100 ) got this out of the box , screwed into its ( included ) stand , and onto a table in about 15 minutes .

The picture clarity is very good , but the controls need a little getting used to by experimentation . The guide book is a little confusing and the remote instructions are a bit lacking . The look is sleek and the value is good .

        • 154 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) I bought this to replace a stolen Panny 50 720p plasma that I was very happy with .

After looking what seemed like forever I came across this one at a great price . Was delivered in great shape and I put it on the wall immeditely . Very easy to configure and the VieraCast features are cool . Watched a movie on the Amazon Video ON Demand and it was flawless . Now to the other side . Certain bass tones create a buzzing sound at all volumes . Troubleshot quite a bit and tried to chat with support . DON'T BOTHER 5 different times over 10 days and they never answered . Called support and waited for over 20 minutes 3 different times and finally hung up . Called support again waited over 30 minutes finally got someone . . . troubleshooting was pointless . Scheduled a tech to come out and they replaced the main board which contains all of the video and audio connections for the tv . Did not resolve the problem . I went in and started messing with it again and found that if I turn off Bass Boost it resolves the problem immediately . Moral of the story . Don't put Bass Boost on a tv who's speakers can't handle it .
        • 048 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) This is a fantastic set .

However , we made the mistake of buying this TV from Amazon . After a delivery that showed up nearly 2 hours late , was not unpacked as it was supposed to be , we discovered the screen was shattered . Amazon is now out of stock and we will have to take more time off work just to have the busted TV carted away . The most they could offer for all this trouble was 10% off a new TV bought in the next 30 days . Appalling customer service . We went and bought the TV from Best Buy and couldn't be happier .

I have had no problems with any kind of burn in even despite the fact that I have done plenty of gaming and watched a number of films in 4 : 3 ratio . I paired this gorgeous screen with the energy take classic speaker's and now I don't even have to go to the cinema hall .

      • Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) Thanks Amazon , Many companies talk about customer service but you deliver .
        • 086 4  I purchased this TV almost a year ago .
        • 111 4  After a lot of research , we decided on the 50 inch Panasonic G10 .
        • 119 4  We love our new Panasonic TV .
        • 169 4  This review is from : Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50 - Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV ( Electronics ) Thanks Amazon , Many companies talk about customer service but you deliver .
