Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh

  • 036 4  My wife and I have been extremely pleased with this scanner . We purchased this roughly 6 months ago , and it is just perfect for managing a paperless office . Our goal was to create a way to easily scan and keep track of important home documentation , and create digital versions of our existing files . In addition to having immediate access to our information , we also wanted to digital files in order to back them up and keep copies at various locations in the event of damage / loss in the home . After reviewing a number of different software programs for digital paper management , we decided to use DevonThink Pro for Mac . DevonThink Pro works very well with this scanner . The scanner itself has a very small footprint , which we love . Having used flatbed and printer-based scanners before , I was used to having a large portion of the desktop space dedicated to these devices , or having the device so far away that scanning was a pain . When this scanner is closed , it takes up very little space in all directions . Also , when closed , it requires no power , so it's great from a green perspective as well . When you open the scanner , it automatically turns on , and the Scansnap software connects with it . Then , drop in papers , and hit the blue scan button . Scanning starts within a second or two , if not immediately . The great thing about the scanner is that both sides of the paper get scanned at the same time . Each 8.5X11 sheet goes through in roughly 1 second or so ( haven't timed it , but it's not more than 2 seconds ) . It's amazing to watch so much paper get scanned so quickly . The computer processing depends on the machine and other processes going on , but it's very rapid . I am not sure if the manual mentions it , but I have also scanned a page that had a receipt stapled to it , and it went through just fine . I selected this scanner over the other Fujitsu scanners for a few reasons . First , the software bundle with Acrobat Pro included . Secondly , the speed was top notch , and the size / weight , while small , was also heavy enough that I didn't think that the process of using it day to day would move the device around ( as opposed to other scanners which looks pretty light-weight ) . Third , it was the fastest of all of the other scanners available , and over the long haul I anticipated that those speed differences would add up to be pretty significant . One thing that I have noticed for Mac users is that the scanning can be done while the screen saver is running . On our machine , we have the screen saver setup with a password , and it comes on after 3 minutes of no use . Let's say that we get something in the mail that we want to scan before we file it . If we had to enter in the screen saver password every time this happens , that would get pretty old . Instead , all we have to do it put the paper into the scanner , hit scan , and the paper is scanned into the computer without us having to enter in our screen saver password . We can then come back to the machine later to tag / keyword / file the document . All in all , we are extremely pleased with the device , and would recommend it very highly .
    • 010 4  I am one of those people who keeps every scrap of paper for fear that I will need something later . That receipt for the shirt I bought 5 years ago ? Yep , got it . All my notebooks from college ? Yep , got those too . Every bank statement , 401 ( k ) form , and electric bill I've ever received ? Well , at least the last 3 years ' worth . As one might imagine , organizing and storing all of this has gotten out of control . So I figured digitizing would be the perfect solution . I could still keep everything , but on disks ( with backups ) instead of filing cabinets . I got this scanner on Friday afternoon ; it's now Monday morning . Over the weekend , this thing blew through about 4 1 / 2 filing cabinet drawers FULL of documents , several thousand pages of bound materials ( I unbound and tossed the pages in ) , three 4 - inch binders , and a bankers box full of notebooks . The speed on this thing is amazing , and the quality of the scan images far exceeded my expectations . At 20 ppm , I was hoping for legible . This gives me clear and detailed . My only complaint with the scanner , and the reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 , is that it jammed a LOT . Many of those jams I could chalk up to the quality of the paper , like thin pages or materials that were previously stapled and just kinda stuck in the feed . And sometimes it was a matter of trying to feed too much paper at once . However , a lot of it seemed to jam for no apparent reason . It seemed to have more trouble than necessary grabbing one sheet at a time , especially at the very beginning or end of a batch . This scanner is definitely meant for documents . I did try scanning a couple of photos , tweaking the scanner settings to highest resolution with jpg file output . The images were pretty good , but not really high-res quality . Even after reading all the reviews , I was really unsure as to how organization of all the scanned images would work . I was hoping that you could take a scan batch and then drag and drop pages or groups of pages into different folders , thereby creating different files . Not so . A batch will create one . pdf file . If you want to combine or split files , you have to do that in Adobe , which is a little bit cumbersome ( still easy , but more steps than drag-and-drop ) . It's faster just to do a separate scan for each document or set of documents that you want to have as a single file . A couple of things I LOVE about the scanner : - Size : It looks big and cumbersome in the photo , like it would take up a bunch of room on your desk . But it's really not . Folded up , the footprint is probably half the size of my MacBook Pro . And you don't have to unfold the bottom catch tray in order to scan , just flip the top feed tray up and let the pages spit out onto your desk . - Durability : I actually sort of dropped the scanner as I was pulling it out of the box . I'm clumsy . I figured it was toast . Nope , plugged it in and it worked just fine . - Receipt Scanning : Oddly enough , one of the things this scanner handled exceptionally well was small receipts . Just to test the its capabilities , I threw in a stack of gas receipts ( you know the tiny ones that are printed at the pump ) . I mixed the rotations , some long ways and some side ways , and they all scanned just fine . No jams , and the images all came out correctly rotated on the screen . It was pretty incredible . When all is said and done , I expect to reduce my paper load from two 4 - drawer filing cabinets , four bankers boxes , and about 10,000 pages of bound materials down to a single 2 - drawer filing cabinet and a FreeAgent external hard drive . This is one of the best home-office machines I have ever used , and would highly recommend it for anyone who , like me , just can't let go of all those documents !
    • 011 4  I purchase many things online and rarely write reviews but I am so pleased with this scanner I felt it was worth taking the time to write this one . I had tried 2 others in the same price range as this one ( both were returned ) before purchasing the Fujitsu and I can tell you that this one was by far the best . I have scanned over 900 documents in the past week without any jams or software hangups . It is fast , accurate , and easy to use . I use this with Yep That Pdf software ( from www.ironicsoftware.com ) and it has made my transition into the paperless world a breeze . You will not be disappointed with this scanner ! !
    • 015 4  I upgraded from an Epson Perfection 4490 flatbed scanner , which had an automatic document feeder that was becoming a little temperamental over time . I used the Epson regularly in my home office over about 18 months , and was very pleased with it . The Fujitsu , however , is in a different league entirely . It is so much faster that it is hard to find words that do justice to the difference . The Fujitsu is smaller , more elegant , and takes up less desktop space . The scanning software is far better for the Mac than the Epson offered . Installation was a snap . And the full copy of Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 is a terrific bonus for someone like me , who hasn't had the Professional version of Acrobat since , let's see , I think it was version 4.0 ( now I can finally Bates stamp my PDF files with ease ) . The only hard choice I have is whether to order a second scanner for my number 2 computer . This is one of the rare devices that makes me say , Gee whiz , isn't technologically great .
    • 016 4  I had NO idea how much this little gadget would simplify my life . It's easy to set up , it's small , it's quiet , it is 100% accurate . It makes record keeping , sorting and emailing a snap . No more fuzzy copies . I'm in real estate and have contracts , receipts etc . . that I scan and put in folders . It is so easy ! I've had 3 other scanners that don't come close to what this one does . If this one broke tomorrow , I'd buy another one and have it overnighted to my house . Can you tell I love it ?
    • 030 4  I've had this scanner for about 3 weeks , and it has performed flawlessly . It scans both sides of the document at the same time , feeds 50 sheets at a time , and the pdf's and jpeg's it creates are perfect . It turns on by simply opening up the lid , and is always ready to go . The accompanying software installs easily and works well . The inclusion of Adobe Acrobat Pro is a plus . It creates searchable PDF files , so that you can find anything from the desktop via spotlight . It will scan different size documents in the same stack . Once set up , you don't have to launch any program to use it . Just load the docs , push the only button on the device , and it goes to work and launches the appropriate software . Scanning for dummies .
    • 047 4  Recently , my HP All In One's printer died , forcing me to begin looking for a new printer . Having had very little luck with all in ones , I had decided to purchase individual printers and scanners , and that led me to begin researching scanners . I use DevonThink Pro to scan ALL of my papers . Bills , medical records , receipts - EVERYTHING goes in . With my HP AIO , that process was Slooooooowwwwww . DevonThink recommends this scanner to be used with their software . . . and now I understand why . Seup was a breeze . . . install the software , plug in the power , and plugin the USB connection . DONE . I did have to reboot my iMac to have the driver configure correctly . Once I opened DevonThink , I was asked to install the plugin . I clicked yes , the plugin installed , and that was all that was needed . Like everything Mac - it just works ! I got the scanner Saturday morning , and in 2 hours , I had a stack of papers scanned in and shredded . This scanner is FAST . I mean blistering fast . . . and it's scanning BOTH SIDES at the same time - and the quality is AMAZING . In fact , it was so fast , that I was having trouble keeping the scanner fed ! In over 300 sheets of paper scanned so far , I've had FIVE paper jams . . . and those were crumpled receipts . Clearing a jam is EASY . . . and then , I simply used the transport sheet to scan the receipt . Simply amazing . The one CON that I've found so far is that there doesn't appear to be anyway to load the scanner and tell the system to make individual documents . Well , there is ONE way - you can tell it to make a separate document for every N scans . . . so every three scans starts a new document for example . Not very convenient for scanning in bills , etc . . . but this could be used if you're scanning in form sets . What would be nice is if the scanner would start a new document on each blank page . Then I could just load document sets and separate them with a blank page . For now , I'm just using the actions in DevonThink to split PDFs . I would HIGHLY recommend this scanner to anyone looking to go paperless .
    • 058 4  Love , Love my scanner ! I purchased this scanner , after much researching , to get my husband's CPA office as paperless as possible . He is paying for storage space to hold boxes of PAPER of which most could be shredded but since they are tax return there are many years worth he is required to maintain . Well , he's going to have to stand in line behind me because I have found the beauty of scanning the files of my real estate business and our personal files , freeing up space in my home office . We are now able to toss out 2 of the 3 tall metal file cabinets taking up space in our garage . Watch out ! This scanner will unleash the organization beast within . Super easy to set up with my computer , easy to scan and very easy to decide where to save to on my computer . It has capabilities to scan 1 sided or 2 . I can scan a 96 page tax return in about 1 min . If and when it may jam ( because I forgot to remove a staple ! ) you simply open the cover , adjust your pieces , close and continue . If you are the type that labeled everything in your home when you got your first label maker , you will go nuts wanting to scan everything on your desk and drawers with this product . This is FABULOUS for scanning all my recipes that I tore out of magazines ! ! I just stick the magazine clipping , any size is fine , into the scanner and seconds later it is on my computer in my recipe folder ! Amazing ! Also works to scan old photos ! Best office product we ever bought aside from my MAC OSX computer . We bought the MacIntosh version of this scanner which included the software to run on my husbands HP PC as well . We are so impressed with this scanner we are considering purchasing a 2nd one so we have one for home , one for his office . It is smaller than a toaster so currently it goes back & forth between offices . Don't spend anymore time agonizing over which scanner to buy . This is it ! Have fun !
    • 065 4  OK , I am a grisly veteran of the digital age . My programming career started in the late 70 ' s and I have programmed , installed , repaired , futzed with , cajoled , debugged and implemented every type of software and hardware , from Osborne portable operating systems to large scale mainframes . I would not say I am rarely impressed with a piece of equipment OOTB - I am NEVER ( fully ) impressed with a piece of hardware or software OOTB . Having said that , this scanner is unbelievably good - probably the best running hardware / software item I have purchased in 10 years . I have thrown everything at this thing - from stacks of multicolored invoices ( on what can best be called rice paper which had been folded 4x over ) , to stacks of business cards to stacks of duplex scans . This scanner did not hiccup once . I am left shaking my head at how well the engineers of this item nailed it . If I could , I'd call them and tell them myself what a wonderful job they did . A fantastic piece of equipment .
    • 068 4  This is an amazing item . I figured I'd get a little use out of it for the occasional document , but after trying it out for a few minutes I can't stop . I keep waiting for it to have problems and it really doesn't . Yes , you can make it jam if you feed stapled documents into it , but you have to try hard to trip it up . This thing is much faster and more efficient than I would have imagined . What a great product . Potentially life-changing if you deal with a lot of paper or documents in your life .
    • 069 4  I purchased this device to go paperless in my business and home office . I have used it for 1 month and so far it is great . I use it on the Macintosh platform along with Mariner Software's Paperless software for organizing and cataloging . They work as a great combo which is necessary because the organizational software included is Windows only , so I cannot comment on that . The product is fast and I can create custom easily accessible menus to change from business to personal use , multipage to single page , etc . etc . with one click . Scans both sides at once and automatically crops , orients and scales / compresses files quite intelligently . It comes bundled with Adobe's Acrobat Pro which is very full featured but , on the Mac , not all that necessary . Also , it comes with version 8 while version 9 is the latest . What's with that ? Easy setup , easy to use .
    • 077 4  I tried a friend's before I bought this . Ease of use is a must , and this is particularly easy to use . A great feature is that as long as it's plugged into your computer , you can be doing something completely different and scan away - it's saved into your incoming scansnap and you can get back to it later . It also detects different weight and thickness of paper while you feed , and it also sometimes straightens out a scan that may have gone in a little crooked . You can set the default to take both sides OR one . LEt's say in the middle of your scanning single sided documents or receipts , you need a dual sided scan ? Easy to alter for the two-sided scan , then back to the default . I've not had a problem yet . I didn't order the extra feed plate - don't need it . I just guide tiny sheets manually . It works fine . Love it .
    • 089 4  How would you like to be able to scan a scaled 8.5 x 11 sketch and reproduce it by printing from a Mac friendly printer , to scale ? How about scanning a document and converting it to MS Word or Excel ? Maybe scanning invoices , receipts , critical documents and such and converting them into pdf files for electronic sharing and / or record ? Welcome to the workhorse . If you want to reduce the need to store hard copies of boxes of ducuments this is your ticket . The feed system is almost 100% reliable , the machine easily switches from one sided ( simplex ) to two sided ( duplex ) functions as well as easily changes scan quality . It even works well in greyscale or color . I can't say enough good things about this scanner . I currently keep it in a cabinet and bring it out about once every few days to scan in a pile of stuff , ranging from images culled from various media to critical transmittals and records . Renaming scanned files is easy as pie . It even adds the . pdf extension by itself . I no longer need a fax machine to transmit either , thanks in part to the fact that virtually everyone uses email and the addition of this awesome little machine into my toolbox . Fabulous , performs above and beyond reasonable expectations .
    • 095 4  This is a great scanner . I missed the high-end fast PDF scanner at work , and got this for my home business . It works well and is very fast for this price level ! No major problems . The only issue I had that was disappointing was that some thicker paper ( one page taped to another ) did not make it through at all , and I've had other scanners ( including a cheap Canon inkjet all-in-one ) handle that type of document perfectly . I wish it could handle heavier paper but it's so good for regular paper that I kept it anyway , and I'm glad I did . The software has some quirks but does work and the single-button operation makes up for it . Highly recommend ( with the one caveat about paper weight ) . Well-made ; folds up small but stays asleep so that you can open it and scan immediately .
    • 101 4  This is a great scanner . It scans fast and it's a breeze to operate . When scanning searchable PDF's tho you will notice the delay after it scans in the documents while it does OCR and indexing . What I really find fascinating is the business card software . That was just amazing . I scanned in a few cards , it figured out most of the content on the cards and after a few edits I had it put the info in my address book and almost instantly the entry was on my iPhone .
    • 105 4  I run two small businesses . Keeping track of the hundreds of receipts , bills and invoices that pass through my desk was killing me and overloading my file cabinets . Now I scan in all of my documents using the Scan to Folder function . Searching through them is very easy using the mac coverflow or spotlight . To make the solution even better , I've moved my scans folder into Dropbox , a program which instantly backs up and syncronizes all my scans between every computer I have . The only downside is , the Scan to folder function does not work under snow leopard . Till this is resolved , I won't be upgrading .
    • 106 4  After years of dealing with all-in-one scanners and their erratic dependability , awkward interfaces , slow performance and inept file management , this scanner is a breath of fresh air . It is compact , fast , smart and super easy to use . The clever interface for the MAC was an added bonus for me . The interface is clean both on the hardware side with only one button to push or choose from , to the simple software bar that yet allows so much functionality for the processing and filing of your scanned file . I have recommended it to friends and work already . For years I have wanted to go to digital filing and when I would recommit , I would quickly change my mind because the laborious task it was with other scanners . Now I have gone 100% digital with my office filing and I am 1 / 2 way through 20 years of old photo scanning and memorabilia archiving . I would recommend this scanner to anyone . And although I have the MAC interface model one , I am sure that the PC version would be as clever .
    • 118 4  I purchased this scanner about a month ago and its worked wonderfully - - the only issue I had was with the included Adobe software - - it wouldn't load kept saying I had an invalid number - - upon taking a ridiculously long time to reach the out of the country customer service at Adobe I was told the activation key was not current and had to contact Fujitsu - - seemed very strange to me - - upon contacting Fujitsu - - which was very easy and explaining the problem I received the best customer service from any tech company I've ever dealt with - - it was pretty clear from the beginning that this really was an Adobe problem and Fujitsu could have easily bounced me back to them . Instead they escalated me to a higher level tech support and went out of their way to get it fixed ASAP - - Great job Fujitsu ! ! ! I can really understand why Apple doesn't want to do business with Adobe - - they suck ! !
    • 127 4  This is a great product ; I am so pleased with my purchase . The scanner works very quick , is small and does exactly what you need . The only things I would put on my wish-list for the product designers would be 1 ) Find a way to address staples in your document ( save me from having to search through all the documents for staples ) , 2 ) Continue to work with Adobe to accelerate the OCR process . This product comes with a full version of Adobe Acrobate . This software is incredible and it is one of my favorite tools on my mac .
    • 129 4  I bought the previous model of this scanner more than a year ago and just love it . It is a real workhorse ! ! I am trying to go paperless at home - - a never-ending challenge - - and it has done hours of scanning without a hitch . Every once in a while there is a paper jam ( and sometimes because I missed a staple : - ) ) which is easy to clear and continue . It is not limited to the 25 - sheet max provided that you add your document in sections . I have scanned 80 - and 100 - page files into a single document , which is great ! The full duplex mode - - scanning both sides of the paper in a single pass - - is tgerrific ! I have yet to do any maintenance on this scanner - - it just keeps plugging along . The footprint is small , which is great in a home office . All in all , well worth the money . It's great to read positive reviews , buy something online , and then find out that it is such a superior product ! TIP : have a good naming protocol for your scanned documents and you can find anything . Mine is MM DD YY Good descriptive title .
    • 133 4  A great product . Quick , quiet , decent software interface . Sheet feed scanner is good , but not excellent . For the price , I want a fail-proof sheet feeder . Something that would help is brackets that help feed paper in straight - often stuff that's been in the mail has creases in it - in order to get it not to jam , I have to work out the creases . If there were little clips keeping the paper more or less straight as it feeds into the scanner , that would help a lot . The software interface is good , not great . I would like a little more control over which applications I send stuff to . I'm using a 667 Mhz iMac with OS X 10.5.8 and 2 gig ram . Even for the above nit-picky criticisms , this device has revolutionized my ( physical ) desktop , allowing me to quickly get out from under mountains of paper . Very pleased .
    • 137 4  I don't feel strongly positive about most electronics , but this scanner is different . It's adorable , fast , easy to set up , and easy to use . I've only had it a month , but I have no complaints yet . Note : the scan quality is quite good for anything on typical office paper , but not so hot with glossy Photographs . If you want to do photos , a flatbed is still the best bet .
    • 143 4  I love this machine ; easy , seamless with my iMac , great . My only problem is that I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make the pdfs searchable . If anyone knows how to do this - - - yes , I have been through the manual a dozen times - - please let me know ( acoldiron at g mail dot com ) - - thank you ! Even so , this thing is AWESOME . I have taken crates of old files and made them electronic . Huge clearing out of space , and more to come .
    • 146 4  Needed a document scanner for the office which would just work . Our last ( multifunction ) scanner was so annoying that nobody used it but me , and it took forever so they'd bug me ( as if I could make it faster ) . This one is perfect ! We hooked it up to an old iMac G5 ( Leopard ) and it's so easy everyone can scan their own stuff now ( yay ! ) . You just wake the computer , load docs , press blue button , click , enter , done . The device itself is much smaller and cuter that it seems in the photo and would look great next to any apple hardware . The trays fold closed so it takes up minimal desk space when not in use . You can set it to automatically scan one or both sides or black & white / color as needed . The file sizes are nice and small , excellent quality and it's super fast . We love it !
    • 148 4  I hemmed and hawed about scanners like this for a long time . I was concerned that the promos couldn't be true . Maybe there would be a better machine soon . A dozen excuses . All the while I continued to compare between similar machines . The truth is , there is no other scanner like this and it works as advertised . We have owned this machine in our small office for about 6 weeks . In that time we have put thousands of pages through it . Different sizes , different weights , different colors of paper stock , 1 side , 2 sides , wrinkled , crinkled , folded , spindled and mutilated . We have had exactly ONE jam . And that was because I fumbled and accidentally bumped the document while it was being fed . We are a Mac office and the set up was smooth , intuitive , simple . Look , if you are like me and can't make up your mind , just buy this one . You won't be sorry and it has already been worth 100 times it's weight in saved time , space and clunky old four drawer files .
    • 166 4  Amazing ease of use . Scans look better than my high-end , color Canon 4800 copier . It will scan documents of different sizes at the same time . For instance , I can scan an 8.5 x 11 expense sheet and the register receipt in the same job without problem . Automatically knows when documents are double-sided . Quiet and compact . Seriously don't know how I lived without one . I already had Adobe Pro 9 so I didn't need the version 8 that came with it . Even if you don't need the Adobe , this scanner is worth every penny .
    • 184 4  Bought this scanner to digitize for a big project . Handled everything well , all paper sizes . Incredibly fast OCR . Easy to use .
    • 188 4  I am a real estate broker and was seeing technology changing from fax to email . I needed to catch up and read about this scanner on many real estate blogs . My fax began having lines through it when I sent a fax so my opportunity to change the way I do business was ready for me . I bought this scanner , after reading hundreds of reviews by other Realtors , because everyone said it was so easy to use . It was easy to set up , easy to use and probably one of my top pieces of office equipment ever ! If you need a scanner , don't even think twice - buy this one !
    • 190 4  I bought this when I upgraded my office systems with the intention of going paperless , or almost paperless . My business is a sole proprietor consulting firm so efficiency is extremely important to me - I have no secretary and so I strive to automate and streamline as much as possible . I haven't had a chance to use the machine extensively but I did complete a few large scanning jobs and I am extremely pleased so far with the performance . I am new to the Mac and not the most sophisticated user by a long shot but I found setup to be extremely non-painful particularly compared to the kinds of hassles I was accustomed to when adding new devices , drivers etc to my old PC . On my Mac , software setup required very little thinking on my end ( good thing ! ) and the machine has worked beautifully . I invested maybe a half hour to read through the owner's manual and accustom myself to the software . The first scanning job I did was a large binder of double sided sheets with larger format ( 11x17 ) sheets interspersed . There is a nifty sleeve that comes with this machine that you can use to scan these large sheets : fold in half , insert in the sleeve , and run through the machine . It scans both sides and merges the images into a unified image . The quality of the final image does depend on how carefully you position the paper in the sleeve but beyond that the machine does all the work . I think it took me all of 20 minutes to scan this entire document and all of the sheets . This includes running OCR . Had I paid my local copy place to scan this document I probably would have been out half the cost of the machine , and I don't think they would have bothered with OCR . No kidding . So as far as I can see it has already paid for itself . And : Bonus ! The machine comes with Acrobat 8 software which is a great benefit - fairly pricey if you were to buy it on its own , and I find myself using it very frequently for jobs unrelated to scanning . Commenting on PDFs , editing , merging , etc . I had been using CutePDF previously because I never wanted to drop the money on the official Acrobat software , so it's certainly been a welcome addition to my office systems . I've read some complaints that the machine isn't shipped with the more current Acrobat 9 but for my purposes Acrobat 8 is just fine . On the unit itself , the sheet feeder and bottom tray fold up nicely for when it's not in use , making for an extremely tidy appearance . I find the process of closing and opening the unit a little awkward as the action of the hinges has a little too much play . Sometimes I need to make a minor adjustment to close it up properly . But aside from this minor nit I am very happy with this little powerhouse . A relatively economical solution for small offices that I believe will pay for itself by supporting improved efficiency and avoiding scanning costs charged by outside vendors .
    • 217 4  Easy setup and great product , cant wait for the snow leopard functions to work . But fast and clear scans . You wont be disappointed ! ! !
    • 227 4  This is a nice product . Finally I have a scanner that does what I want it to do . Easy to use . Fast . Small file size . User friendly .

  • 056 4  Since I gave up on becoming paperless , I thought this scanner would enable me to have access to the mountains of paper we generate in out business when I'm out in the field . The scanner works better than I had hoped . It's fast and it simply works . We scan copies of contracts , mail , delivery receipts and virtually every piece of paper we handle . We file those documents according to job , client etc . Once filed , we have access to the documents over our network and via laptop & iPhone while in the field . No longer to we have to lug files of paper around to job sites . The only down side so far is that when we need a printed copy of a document we have scanned while out in the field , we are creating another piece of paper by printing it in the field and that often gets tossed after it serves it's purpose . Like I said , we gave up on becoming paperless a long time ago . The software makes the scanner all the more versatile . If you create and or handle a lot of paper , this bundle may help you organize and allow easier access to those documents .
    • 033 4  I am a real estate broker and my office wants us to go paperless so I need to scan in large stacks of paper and email them for transactions . I was using an all-in-one machine but it was slow , could only accommodate 10 pages at a time , and the quality was not good . My new scanner is fast and the quality is excellent . It can handle all of my pages at once . I wish I had bought it sooner .
    • 043 4  This is what a scanner should be . I have owned several flatbed scanners and was somewhat hesitant about using a sheetfed scanner regarding quality and utility . This scanner far exceeded my expectations and I am now considering getting rid of my flatbed , even for photographs . Great product , excellent build quality and intuitive integration with the Mac .
    • 144 4  I really am impressed at how well this machine works . The only issues I have relates to trying to scan items of different size and thickness . The auto feeder will pull multiple sheets instead of one at the time .
    • 186 4  Don't know what I did before this scanner . Combined with Mariner's Paperless software , I'm happy and my office really can go paperless !
    • 196 4  As a med student I purchased this product to scan in all of my notes to make them searchable and more portable . I love it , but my friends love it even more because it has really helped with managing all of the information we are learning . Had it for six months and have not had a problem .
    • 204 4  two flatbeds died in two years . read great reviews of this and paid quite a bit . have scanned fantastic photos , two sided papers and get stacks of clutter off my desk and into my computer . just need to learn a bit more to make it all more seamless . Highly recommend this scanner .
    • 208 4  This is a great little scanner . It is very fast , and makes quick work of piles of paper . It has served the purpose I bought it for well . Now I plan to scan a lot more stuff and clean my files out . It is very small and compact . Much smaller than I thought it would be . The inclusion of Acrobat is wonderful . I never knew about all the great features that the full version of Acrobat had . That alone is almost worth the price of the scanner .

  • 116 4  I love this scanner . The only problem is I can't figure out how to scan a document and convert the pdf to a Word document , which I know I should be able to do . Of course , when I contact the software people , they say contact Fujitsu - - well , you know where this is going . Other than that problem , the quality of the scanned document is INCREDIBLE and it can scan a two-sided document in one scan . Pretty cool .

    • 125 4  We've had several scanners , and this is by far the best . Scans both sides of page , different page sizes , very fast and accurately . Love it . Finally getting rid of all my paper files , like I intended to years ago .
      • 198 4  Works just as well as advertised . I finally got all my family photos scanned .
      • 229 4  Scanner is very fast , provides excellent scans , easy to use and exactly as described . Best office purchase I have ever made .
      • 232 4  Best scanner I've ever used . Worth every penny ! I have been scanning and shredding docs and receipts for days . I'll so thrilled to get rid of all of those papers . Love the way it folds up and is so attractive .

    • 141 4  Scanned nearly 1000 documents , many from the 1950s and 1960s - - all perfect . Love the Adobe Acrobat Professional that is included . Awesome speed in duplex mode .
      • 221 4  Fast , capable scanner . A little pricey , but considering the Adobe software included , a good investment .
      • 233 4  The scanner is fast and reliable . Scans pictures very well and works with Mac great .

    • 214 4  I have an HP Flatbed scanner and needed a document scanner - this scanner is amazing . Works flawlessly , quality is great , speed is super fast . Now I love scanning things . If you're trying to go paperless or just get rid of clutter , this scanner is a great option .

      • 238 4  Just got it . never written a review for anything before , but it is FAST . this is the main thing .
        • 235 4  perfect , small , fast and one button easy to use , but its not yet real leopard friendly.lawyer ken

      • Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I'm a proud new owner of a ScanSnap S1500M . I've owned many flatbed scanners and a multifunction device with a scanner , and I have to say the ScanSnap is among the best . Like most people , I've been digitizing my documents to reduce clutter . However , with my flatbed scanner , it gets very tedious to open the lid , flip the page , then click on the scanning software to continue scanning . A few pages takes a lot of time to digitize . With my ADF-equipped scanners , it was more hands-free , but the scans tended to be skewed . In all my past scanners , I could not search my PDFs . My ScanSnap arrived a few days ago , and I've scanned several hundred pages . It is absolutely fast , no joke . Another reviewer said it's a paper eater ( to denote scanning speed ) . It really munches on paper quickly . Actually , it is so quick , I spend more time preparing the documents ( unstaple , arrange , etc . ) than running it through the scanner . Plus , Fujitsu did a great job with the footprint . It is a very small scanner . Just a little bit wider than a sheet of paper , and maybe half as tall as the long side of a sheet of paper . The trays also fold in , so it looks like a small rectangular block when it's all folded in . The sheet feeding tends to be pretty straight . It did jam a few times , but they tend to be on thin sheets of paper . In case of a jam , there is a compartment you open up , just like un-jamming an office photocopier . Overall , I am very pleased with the scanner device . The reason I gave it an overall 4 Stars is because their software needs some improvements . First of all , there's no Organizer software that provides the added usability of the PC version . If you go on YouTube , and search for S1500M , you will notice they are pitching the S1500 ( PC version ) . In comparing the software capabilities from the video to what I actually got , I really would like the Organizer . As it is , when you press the Scan button on your scanner , it will invoke ScanSnap Manager on your Mac . That piece of software only lets you control what will happen when the Scan button is pressed ( Save to a Folder , Send to Word , Quality settings , . . . ) . But , what happens after the scan is not organized for you . Open the YouTube video address below , then skip to the time 2 : 10 . It talks about Send to ScanSnap Organizer folder . That's not in the Mac version , consequently , the Mac version doesn't get the View , Crop , and Highlight features in ScanSnap Organizer . Why ? [ . . . ] Another complaint is that unlike the PC version , the Mac version only comes with Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Pro ( PC comes with 9.0 ) , although I think 8.0 is pretty good already . The Searchable PDF feature is great . The OCR is pretty good . Here's the bad part though , and I think it's related to not having Organizer . To make the scans searchable , you have to turn on the Convert to Searchable PDF checkbox in the ScanSnap Manager's File option tab . When you load your documents and press Scan , the software will create the PDF , then there's another step to run it through OCR . If you scan in low volume , just a few sheets at a time , you'll be okay . But I scan 50 - 150 pages at a time . The ten or so seconds to OCR a page adds up to tens of minutes per batch . During the time it does OCR , you cannot continue scanning ! ! ! Believe me , I tried but the Scan button does nothing while OCR is working . That's not good at all . I would rather scan my next batch , then queue up the OCR jobs . That way , I can scan everything now , then go to lunch or leave it running overnight , then it's done when I get back . But with their current setup , you will have to sit by your desk to wait until you can do your next batch . It's kind of like the old days of printing . Can you imagine yourself printing a big document , then being unable to tell MS Word to print the next document until the first one finished ? It's kind of like that . Think about it . Overall , I absolutely love the scanner device . I think it's great . Good job for putting two scanning units to make double-sided scans in one pass . The software is okay . It is missing an Organizer found in the PC version . The OCR is pretty accurate , but when scanning big batches , the OCR process will bottleneck your next batch to scan . If you're like many who are buying a fast scanner because you have many file cabinets of paper to scan , you will find that bottleneck very annoying . Now , if Fujitsu could fix those limitations for S1500M users , then my complaints disappear and they would deserve a 5 Star rating . If anyone else has similar experience , please add a Note to Fujitsu section in your review . Hopefully Fujitsu will get the idea and work on it . NOTE TO FUJITSU : Please have a Mac version of ScanSnap Organizer available for S1500M owners . Also , please enhance your software to include a Scan Job Queueing capability , so that people can scan their next job while the software is crunching another job . Kind of like how printing used to be one at a time , but later it could be Queued into a spooler so that users can get on with their job right away . Those would make your scanners unbeatable . Please strongly consider .
        • 001 4  Great tool . What a scanner should be . This is another world from the speed and software efficiency you have in the average scanner and All In One Printers . So I am happy to have both a AIO device and this great tool for document management . My use : Now all the invoices and in general , all my printed documents are converted into searchable pdf into an easy to access archive . I can recover from a fax or a printed document and edit it in word or excel tables or iWork and save a lot of time retyping Business cards are archived in a short time and included in my address book and so also on my iPhone . PLUS A single , easy to use , application manages the very fast scanning and efficient OCR conversion of printed documents outputting directly in searchable PDF , Word , Excel , email attachment , address book and VCF contacts . Also business card OCR is quiet effective and the limit is due to strange character and graphics and you can find on some more creative cards . Compared to what you find in the AIO devices and average scanners , paper handling is superior and errors are avoided . In the case of skipped pages ( Happens rarely ) a sensor warns you and show you which page is missing . CONS Only shortcoming is that Acrobat Pro is included in version 8.0 and not the last 9.0 but I suppose that this will change soon .
        • 003 4  But I mean this in a good way . The ScanSnap S1500M gobbles up piles of paper at an amazing rate . One-side or two-side scanning takes the same time . I have put just about every type of paper through it , often of mixed sizes and types ( e.g . , legal and letter size , 3x5 cards , newspaper and magazine clippings , unfolded brochures ) . A carrier sheet is available for crumpled , folded , or extremely thin paper . I've only had one paper jam ( an odd-shaped , somewhat crumpled page that I ran without using the carrier sheet ) . Clearing jams is trivially easy because of the almost straight-through paper path . I am amazed by the quality of the scans . Photos sometimes look better than the originals . It small and almost silent . The software is easy to use . I have seldom , if ever , had a computer peripheral that I was as happy with .
        • 004 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This is probably the most valuable hardware I have ever purchased for my Mac and for my office . I am considering purchasing a second one for my home as well . Now the machine looks clunky and large in the picture shown here , but the scanner can be folded down if you are not using it . Look for pictures of folded down machine . It is much more compact and nicer looking then it does on the above picture . That's important too ; after all , you want your desk to look neater and less cluttered after getting this machine . I owned a Neat Receipts Mac scanner previously . S1500M is superior in every way ; the difference is so great , I probably should not even compare them . Neat Receipts was agonizing slow and the OCR software was also slow and unreliable ( often crashed ) . I was sorely disappointed . Good thing I tried the S1500M . I've owned this machine for a few months now and have scanned all kinds of documents . Fast and reliable scanning every time . ADF works flawless ; never skips a page . Scans both sides of a page automatically when needed ; I wasn't even thinking about this feature when I purchased it , but boy that sure is a convenient feature to have . Adobe Acrobat which came with the scanner is nice ; but I recommend also getting Yep ! ( shareware which utilizes Spotlight - - remember to enable Spotlight or it won't work ! ) for previewing and organizing all the PDF files you will be creating . You can't work efficiently without a great document scanner and organizer in the 21st century . Invaluable . Invaluable . Get it . Just do it . UPDATE : Recently some ignorant clerk at the IRS sent me a document of about 20 pages stapled a bunch of times using a broken stapler ( the staples were bent irregularly in multiple places ) . I took off 4 broken staples and ran the document through and realized that there were actually more broken staples in between the documents where it was not visible to me until it jammed my ScanSnap S1500M . It made a grinding noise and I was horrified to discover about 5 more broken stapes between the documents . I thought the S1500M was a sure gonner . After clearing all the jammed papers and staples , it went right back in to smooth action ! ! ! The quality on this scanner is absolutely beautiful . Nevertheless , make sure you thoroughly check your documents before inserting them to your scanner ADF , especially the ones from IRS .

        • 006 4  I've been using ScanSnaps since they first appeared on the horizon . Prior to that , I'd been on a serious quest to become totally paperless . I worked in a law firm and convinced them to get a scanner and I learned how to use it . The machine was large , complicated and expensive . If it hadn't been so expensive I would have bought one for myself to use at home , but I just couldn't justify it . When the ScanSnap was announced I realized that finally there was a scanner that could scan batches of documents at an affordable price . I assumed that there had to be a catch , and that would mean the scanner wasn't quite top-notch . I bought one anyway . I realized instantly that this was the holy grail of scanners . And , as I said , I've been using them ever since . Every one of these scanners has been a model of reliability . I've recommended these scanners to hundreds of people and every single person I've recommended it to has wound up falling in love with it . Like anything in the world of technology , it is best if you take the time to explore the settings and figure out how to make it work best for you . As a home scanner there is simply no other option , not in my view . The all-in-one machines are fine if you only want to scan a few things here and there . If you are going to scan stacks of documents then you need a real scanner . How good is this scanner ? Well , like I said , I'm a lawyer and I've recommended this scanner to other lawyers and helped them set it up . Many other tech-savvy lawyers I know have discovered this scanner on their own . Lawyers as you may know , are huge devourers of paper . A couple of lawyers I know work in small firms where this is the only scanner . It can totally handle the workflow of paper that a small firm of lawyers receives . But , most of these firms quickly decide to get a scanner for each lawyer . And why not ? It's not that expensive , especially when you consider that it comes pre-loaded with Adobe Acrobat ( which is normally a $200 + value ) . If you want to be paperless then you want to scan to PDF , and having Acrobat allows you to manipulate your PDFs ( e.g . add signatures , insert pages , rotate pages , make sticky notes etc . ) . I've used both the Mac version of this scanner and the Windows version and they are completely equivalent . They both work wonderfully . The Windows version of this scanner comes with wonderful software called ScanSnap Organizer , which makes it really easy to batch scan a bunch of different papers ( e.g . bank statements , utility bills , receipts etc ) and then later on put them into folders or whatever you want to do to organize things . The Mac version doesn't come with this software , but there is a great program called ' Yep ' ( just google ' yep mac software ' and you'll find it ) that costs about $34 and is even better ( in my opinion ) than the Organizer software that comes with the Windows version of the ScanSnap . It's rare in the world of technology that one product winds up dominating because it simply stands heads-and-shoulders above everything else that purports to compete with it . The Fujitsu ScanSnap is one such product . I advise a lot of lawyers about becoming paperless , and whenever I hear that someone has tried and failed to make the switch away from paper , I often find that the root problem is with their scanner . It's either too powerful ( and therefore too complicated ) , or it's not powerful enough ( e.g . the all-in-one device , and this is even true of the $10,000 high end multi-function devices ) . The ScanSnap is like the porridge in the Goldilocks fable : it's just right . Install the software , then plug it in and hook it to the computer . Configure it and then load a stack of paper . Try putting a letter in upside down and see what happens ( it will auto rotate it to the proper orientation ) . It will straighten pages that you load crooked , and it will scan the front and back of pages at the same time . But it will toss out the back pages if they're blank . It can scan in color or black & white . You can run OCR ( optical character recognition ) so that the document will be text-searchable ( I don't do this because it takes a little extra time and generally isn't worth it , but you can do it easily if you want ) . If you get this and want more room on your desk then get rid of your fax machine and get a low-cost web based fax service like [ . . . ] which lets you send and receive faxes by email . You've got the Scanner and I presume you have an email account . What are you waiting for ? The paperless revolution awaits you , and all you need to make the first step is this Scanner .

        • 009 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I am one of those people who keeps every scrap of paper for fear that I will need something later .
        • 012 4  We have had experience with several multiscanner products and none of them have come close to solving our scanning needs . We have close to 20,000 pages to enter into our Mac based paperless physician's office and the estimates we were getting to have this work done commercially was more than $4,000 . This produced nothing but collective chest pain . Along came a little scanner that does nothing but scan , the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M . This product is easy to use , produces scans with great clarity in the blink of an eye , and has not had as much as a hiccup with 10,000 pages done . If that scanner dies today it will have saved us money . The only question which remains unanswered is what do we do with the four other scanners / glorified door stops cluttering up the place .
        • 013 4  Simply the best scanner I've ever used ( and I've used a lot of ' em ) . Works better than advertised . You can jam it if you try to ( i.e . , force a bunch of miss-match wrinkled old papers and sizes ) but it is remarkably easy to clear and the software is smart enough to help you restart your scan where you left off so if you're at the end of a 50 page run you don't have to start over from scratch . You will not believe the speed and quality of this tiny package . It's so good it scans the the backside , mirror image of very thin gas pump receipts , go figure . The Adobe Pro version is a bundle but for the life of me I can't see what options they have disabled . I'm relatively new to the Mac side of things but have been in IT and the PC world for 20 years . Anyway , it does everything I've every needed and it does it better than the PC ever could . If you do the math they are either giving the scanner away or giving the software away . Works for me . Spend the money and don't look back !
        • 014 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I upgraded from an Epson Perfection 4490 flatbed scanner , which had an automatic document feeder that was becoming a little temperamental over time .
        • 017 4  By Fujitsu's own admission , most of the features of this scanner do not work with Snow Leopard ( - - they expect to update the software by the end of the year so for the next few months you should avoid this scanner if you've upgraded your OS . Before the upgrade , the scanner worked great . The main limitation is that it does not support TWAIN so in situations like these , when the Fujitsu software breaks down , you have no alternative software to fall back on .
        • 018 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I've never felt compelled to write a review for anything I've purchased on Amazon until now . This is an exceptional product . . . I've scanned all my tax information , business records and important information to PDF for several years now , but it required I lug my documents to Kinko's or use other scanners that I have had available to me . Since the feeders on other scanners would only accept one paper size in a batch , I would tape several smaller receipts to 8 1 / 2 x 11 sheets of paper , or scan the documents one at a time and then merge them into a single PDF document later-either way it was a very labor intensive process . I finally decided to buy my own scanner which I'll use primarily for text documents . Every scanner I've used before has been a pain . Not any more . . . Within 5 minutes of receiving it I had installed the software , updated the software for Snow Leopard and was ready for my first scan . My first impressions : It is much smaller than I expected ( fits nicely on my desk ) , has a well made feel / fit and finish and the color goes nicely with my mac setup . After setting up a couple different profiles ( DPI , color , gray or BW , duplex , etc ) I loaded several different different size documents and pressed the single blue scan button on the front of the machine . Seconds later I had a new PDF show up in my selected folder . The pages of the pdf were straight with none of the slant that I get from most sheet feeders I've used on scanner before . Each scanned document was the correct size and not forced to fit on an 8 1 / 2 x 11 . Here are the pros of the amazing scanner : - Fast & quiet - Scans both sides of a document at the same time for duplex - Auto rotates pages so that up is up - Automatically fixes pages that load slanted through the feeder - Auto sizing - Scans multiple size documents in one scan batch - Senses if multiple pages feed at the same time and stops the scan job allowing you to correct the problem and continue scanning into the same document if you wish - Can scan to Word , Excel or OCR - Easily configure different profiles for different types of scanning - 2 click selection of a new profile from the Dock - Zero confusing buttons on the hardware - PDF compression settings One minor con : - It would be nice to be able attach the scanner to an Airport Extreme or Time Capsule and connect to multiple computers wirelessly In short this scanner seems to fix every single gripe I've had about every other scanner I've ever used .

        • 020 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I had been following this product for a while . I originally purchased Neat Receipts for Mac and what a headache . I don't believe Neat Receipts was ready for prime time scanning and the issues were numerous . Wow , I set up the SnapScan and within minutes was up and running . This is without doubt the best scanner out there for the Mac . It's fast , accurate , easy to use and offers much more than that other scanner . If you're using a flat bed it's time to put it on eBay . The SnapScan is amazing and worth every penny . Buy it here on Amazon.com . It will cost you $499.95 on Apple and most other web sites . For those of you who own the SnapScan and haven't done it yet , go to Fujitsu's web site for the Snow Leopard update . A final note on Neat Receipts , the customer service was the worst and they seemed to care less concerning the issues I had with their product .

        • 022 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This is a very good scanner , particularly since there are so few good options for Mac users . It is quick and reliable , and the Automatic Doc Feeder works smoothly and rarely skips a page or jams or picks up two pages at once . When it senses a possible error , it is quite forgiving and prompts you to either reload the page , or all pages , or just continue . I don't spend so much time ' babysitting ' the scanning process . The software options are rather basic , but are more than adequate for most purposes . It is quite simple to set up and get rolling . It can be VERY space efficient - about as big as a shoebox when closed up , and opens up to full operating size in about 3 motions with one hand . The one negative I would report is that when you want to add scanned pages to an existing PDF file , you cannot ' append ' or create a new file from scanner when in Adobe Acrobat because the device is not recognized in Adobe ( ScanSnap doesn't use a TWAIN driver ) . The simple work-around solution for that is to make an additional PDF file directly from the scanner , then ' insert ' one file into the other when in Acrobat to combine the files . I may miss the ' append to current ' document feature , but I got over it quickly enough . Otherwise , I will strongly recommend this scanner .

        • 024 4  This is a product that over-delivers . It is smaller than you would think , works better than you imagine , and sets the bar for all other devices . I am shocked out how much I like the ScanSnap . The best endorsement that I can give is that the ScanSnap has changed how I think about my work process - for the better .
        • 025 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This scanner is more impressive than my new Mac Pro . It is fast , accurate , and unobtrusive . I put an 800 page book into pdf format in less than 2 hours and with very little action on my part . I am converting 10 years of personal and financial records to digital formats in less time than I had dreamed possible . Try using the scanner with free software called evernote and make your entire file cabinet searchable and available from anywhere . The software integrates easily with the ScanSnap module . It also comes with an excellent kit of software . I like to use Acrobat Professional to make any changes to the PDFs . It is rare to find an electronic device that is as simple , consistent , and reliable . I do not regret the money spent on this product . I have had no problem using this on snow leopard .

        • 027 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M desktop scanner is one of the best peripherals I have acquired recently . There is no other scanner in my experience ( and I have owned flatbed and multi-function scanners ) that does a better of job of scanning paper documents . Why I like this scanner : - No warm-up time for the scanning lamps . As soon as you flip open the cover / document trays it's awaken and ready to scan ( as long as the ScanSnap manager software and your Mac is running ) . The quick response rate of the scanner encourages my frequent use of the scanner to scan as few as one piece of paper or business card anytime , and thus keeping my workspace clutter-free . All my other scanners that I have used always required a warm-up time ; even if only 10 seconds , that lag time often discouraged me from doing scans until I had a batch of things to scan . With the Fujitsu ScanSnap I use it as my digitizing inbox to keep clutter at bay and important documents immediately digitized . - Single-pass duplex scanning . This is a time-saving feature ( and probably the fastest way ) for scanning documents with print on both sides of the page . The software is intelligent enough to know when there is a blank side and to omit that side of the page from the PDF file . Furthermore , the software is able to determine whether to scan the page in b / w , grayscale , or color within the same batch , optimizing the scan quality as well as file size . The software also is able to automatically rotate or orient pages correctly most of the time . - Edge-to-Edge scanning . What you see on the page will get scanned , including images that bleed to the edge of a page and footnotes , bar codes , or page numbers that are printed very close to the edge of the page . - Straight-through paper path . The paper-handling of the scanner keeps things simple , with no curling of the paper or any convoluted paper path . Thus even more rigid card-stock can pass through and be scanned . Paper jams are also easily resolved , since the paper interface inside the machine is minimal . - Compact design . When folded up , the Fujitsu ScanSnap does not take up much space . When in use with all trays extended , it still takes up less space than a typical legal-sized flatbed scanner . I am currently using this scanner with the included ScanSnap Manager software ( version 3.0 L10 ) on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.1 ( Snow Leopard ) . Indeed certain advertised software features do not function in Snow Leopard ( read Fujitsu's disclaimer on their website ) . However , the scanner still works . Although I don't need the frills , I trust Fujitsu will provide an updated version of its software so that all features will work on the latest OS . The bundled Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro version is a bonus if you don't already have Acrobat . Bottom line : the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M works simply and efficiently . It does what I need it to do for scanning paper documents .

        • 029 4  I'm using this scanner to digitize boxes of documents - - papers , letters , clippings , sketchpads and mixed media of all kinds . Other than removing staples / paperclips and cutting off bindings , I haven't helped it much , and the scanner hardware and software has exceeded my expectations - - the rate is very fast , the scanning software is configurable but the auto-detect does a good job of switching modes on mixed batches , jamming is infrequent and jam recovery is well handled - - I'm extremely happy . Keep in mind that it is only direct-USB-tether ( not networked ) and that it has an ~ 8.5 maximum width - - nothing oversized . Its strength is grayscale / BW - - I sometimes get very strange hue / saturation , especially on solid colors ( e.g . a blue book jacket turns teal ) . Finally , feeding performance seems to jam most on small-size thin-weight paper ( e.g . old paperback pages ) but thick stiff stock ( old paperback covers ) feeds fine . They way Fujitsu has implemented the OCR software unnecessarily slows down large batch jobs unless it OCR is done separately , * after * scanning . Because the Scan Manager software is single-process / modal and has no queue , scanning 50 pages is a snap but then the software is unnecessarily locked up for a few minutes while OCRs is running - - the scanner isn't doing anything , but it can't start a new job . For big jobs , leave the scanner OCR off and handle the OCR as a separate step while keeping the scanner feeder full - - I use the included Adobe Acrobat directly . When used in its area of strength , this is great hardware performance for the money with good software to match .
        • 031 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I purchased this scanner for the sole purpose of going paperless . I read many reviews about speed of the SnapScan products and still I'm impressed ( ~ 2 sec ) . At 600 dpi is sucks the pages through very quickly . When I pushed the quality to 1200 dpi the speed it matched my expectations ( ~ 4 seconds ) . The most impressive aspect of the SnapScan 1500M is the size . Desktop real estate is a premium for me and this device is small and compact . I LOVE the fact the output tray can be left closed the and the documents drop onto the desk . After a few hundred pages I have yet to experience a jam . It doesn't matter small receipts , thin paper , and even wrinkled pages pass through flawlessly . Quality was outstanding . The Fujitsu software is now compatible with Snow Leopard . I'm using Neat Company's NeatWorks For Mac as my document management software . It works perfectly with the SnapScan 1500M . The NeatWorks have a number of annoyances so I'd recommend a wait-n-see for Version 3 . At first its impressive , but once you have several dozen documents across many different categories the limits of the software show through .

I was already running Snow Leopard and owned NeatWorks , which I was using with the Neat portable scanner . Scans with the portable were just to slow for any volume work . I was almost scared away by the it won't work with Snow Leopard reviews and notes were and elsewhere . However , after a lot of reading , it became clear to me that the features that doe not work with Snow Leopard were features that i would not have at all with the NeatDesk scanner . I am very glad that I jumped in . The feature that I found most attractive was the ability to detect multiple pages stuck together . Most of the time this is not an issue , but if the pages are bent / crumpled just sticky , etc . this occasionally happens . The unit detects this perfectly in my experience , and gives me the choice to rescan part or all before handing the image off to the NeatWorks software . I am very happy with this purchase , and do recommend this with NeatWorks under Snow Leopard ( BTW , the Fujtisu site currently says all feature will be supported for Snow Leopard by the end of November ) .

        • 037 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I hesitated spending four hundred dollars on a scanner when there are plenty of really good combo printers on the market . And the review concerning Snow Leopard's compatibility was troubling . However , spend I did and I am glad I made the investment . I have had no mechanical troubles and it has scanned everything I have put through it from large 8x10 photos to grocery store receipts . I called Apple with the Snow Leopard compatibility problem and Jon gave me a work around which was simple and worked very well . I am no longer concerned about this issue although Fujitsu says they will have a permanent solution soon . I am disappointed that there is no easy filing system included as I hope to go paperless and rid myself of all the file crates that are stored in the closet . But the software which is included should be helpful and I hope to find a product on the market which will help with that . All in all : A-Okay .

        • 039 4  Over the years I have purchased and used 6 - 8 scanners . For photos , I still use the Epson 2400 , which is great as a flatbed scanner . It can even scan 35mm film , slides and 35mm negatives . But for a paperless office , I haven't found anything that beats the Fujitsu ScanSnap . I've been using mine for about 5 weeks with my MacBookPro . It's compact ( with a clever system that folds away the input and output sheet feeders ) . The software is quick and easy to use . And , the best part ! It sucks in up to 50 pages almost instantly , and automatically scans and collates duplex scanning . In that 5 weeks I have never had a jam or problem . I've got to admit that I haven't put the software to its test . My reason for buying this was to create PDF's of all my paper documents , save the files using appropriate key words , and then using the Mac's Spotlight or Finder capabilities to quickly locate my documents . It does this absolutely flawlessly . The unit is so compact , that I keep it on continuously . When I have a paper document to scan , I simply insert it in the feeder , press the lighted button , and BOOM ! the document sucks through and an image almost instantly appears on the screen , where I name the file and press ENTER to save . When I need to retrieve the document , I use my Mac's spotlight utility , where I type in a search phrase and voila ! , my document instantly appears . Of course , the software that comes with the hardware can do much more , but I haven't tried the other features . One other that I have used successfully allows me to scan to a file , enter an email address and quickly send the document to the recipient . For unusual scanning , such as high resolution 35mm slides , I still use my Epson 2400 . But for everything else , the Fujitsu far exceeds my expectations for the roughly $400 price that I paid for it .
        • 040 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I have had this Mac version Snapscan for about two weeks . I have it set up to send stuff to my EagleFiler program . What a great combo to reduce clutter . The SnapScan works way better than I imagined . I am finally getting rid of my stacks of paper . SnapScan is fast and the software works the way it should . Make sure you have a powerful shredder because once you get started you will want to get rid of a lot of old papers . My shredder just burned out . Oh well .

        • 042 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This is what a scanner should be .
        • 044 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) For the last few months , I've been wanting to digitize my personal documents and go paperless . Originally , I thought seriously about getting the NeatDesk Organizer for Mac but was discouraged to do so because of all the negative reviews by Amazon customers . Upon reading the MacWorld review on the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M , I decided to do more research about it . The positive reviews on Amazon made me buy it and I got a great deal by purchasing an open box unit through [ . . . ] . The installation was very easy and I was glad to know that there is an updated software for Snow Leopard , which installed just fine . I was happy to know that it came with a full version of Adobe Acrobat ( even though I already had my own copy ) . I was amazed at the scanning speed and the ability to scan double-sided pages . The scanner actually detects a two-sided document versus a single-sided document . Sometimes , though , the scanner thinks a document is double-sided if the text bleeds through the back . That's not an issue for me . If I want to just do a single-side scan , I can just choose the option through the ScanSnap manager software . The page feeder worked well for me . It even scanned some of my documents that were printed on very thin paper . I read on the reviews that some users had a problem with the feeder jamming . I always stacked my papers before putting them on the feeder so it's never been a problem . Finally , the scanner does not take up a whole lot of room . When it is not being used , I can close the feeders and it sits perfectly on my desk . This product is worth every penny and I consider it a good investment towards a paperless home office .

        • 046 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Recently , my HP All In One's printer died , forcing me to begin looking for a new printer .
        • 048 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I have never reviewed a product on Amazon before , although God knows I have bought enough of them . But this Fujitus ScanSnap S1500M was so good I just had to review it . I use it for business , so I want reliable products that are FAST and anybody can use without special training or setup . This is it . It has ONE BUTTON ! Which is a bright press me glowing blue . You drop in a bunch of paper and press the giant blue button . After a couple of seconds it just starts to scan the pages , efficiently , quickly and quietly . After it is done scanning a window pops up on your screen asking what you want to do with the pages . It has a bunch of options ( save to folder , Word , Excel , fax , etc ) . Then , it has QUALITY screens to set document name and save location etc . This scanner does everything it says it does . I leave it on fully automatic options . It sizes the pages in the saved document , deletes blank sheets , automatically selects color or black / white , single or double sided , text or drawings , with mixed pages in the hopper . It straightens the pages and gets rid of spurious borders so the documents are clean-clean-clean when you view them . It handles mixed sizes , like invoices , utility bills , and cash register receipts . It is great for expense reports ! The PDF documents it creates are extremely legible , yet reasonably sized . Smaller documents I can email . I scanned a 166 page book [ my daughter's book - she is in France now - no copyrights were harmed in the creation of this email ] and sent the 25 MB file via YouSendIt . This would be perfect for law offices Ease of Use gets 100 points on a 100 - point scale . I never score anything this high on this scale , even new Macs . The Japanese have really figured it out with this product . Finally . Unlike my Japanese fax machine , the 50 - page hopper really holds 50 pages and works properly . The appliance is nicely designed . It folds up cute like a transformer into a little silver bread-box . But when you unfold the front and the back completely it has full size document supports for both the feeder and the output tray . Folded up , it looks rugged . Unfolded for use it looks fragile , but I haven't broken anything yet . Small size : Elegant ! I love how automatic it is . This is the scanners are supposed to be . The next step will be some magic way to get the PDF page numbers to match the document page numbers . Mac Preview has drag-and-drop document merging and separating , so that is how I build custom documents . I tried this a very old G4 laptop with an old OS . It was not supposed to work , and it did not . If you have obsolete computers , check the specs . It runs 2 seconds per page on my old G5 iMac , which doesn't even have USB 2.0 . Originally , Fujitsu did not have Snow Leopard support , but they supposedly have this fixed , and although I haven't tested that , I suspect they are telling the truth . Scan speed : A + BTW - it is nicely packaged . I had to repackage it a few times to move it and it was easy to do that . Bonus points . Anyway , good work , engineers and production people ! And as always , Amazon customer service is flawless .

        • 050 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I had the need to scan a number of 2 - sided documents . I had an older flatbed scanner that was quite functional but required I import via Photoshop and scanned slowly . The ScanSnap 1500M whips the pages through and allows for multiple different import options . It is fast and easy , and it has resulted in my scanning more things than I used to because it is so much less of a hassle . It runs fine under Snow Leopard .

        • 052 4  I see one of the top reviews listed based on Customers finding it useful is the warning that the scanner does not work with Snow Leopard . That review is over 8 months old and now false . Snow Leopard update is here : [ . . . ] The scanner works flawlessly . I own two ScanSnaps , the earlier model from this the S510 and the newer portable S1300 . They both work so quickly and consistently that they have opened up new worlds of scanning that I would not have considered in the past : a receipt file for all warranty items , receipts for business travel , take out menus for favorite restaurants , bank statements , business cards , misc documents , it goes on and on . The scanner works so quick that the longest part of the process is me picking a name for the file .
        • 053 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I use the Fujitsu Scan Snap at home on a Mac , and at work with a PC . Even though I bought the S1500M ( M is for Mac ) , it does not work as well on the Mac . It does work great on the PC ! ! In fact , even my fourth grade students can scan , download documents into the proper file , transfer the contents to a travel drive , and then load the contents on the computers of the other teachers in mere minutes ! ! They love using the ScanSnap , as does their teacher ! ! The problem with the Mac is that you must have Microsoft Office or Microsoft Excel in order to scan or save to Word . You can't download it into Neo Office ( free software ) , although I'm still trying to work around this glitch ! ! The whole process is just more complicated on a Mac than it needs to be ! ! • 055 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Since I gave up on becoming paperless , I thought this scanner would enable me to have access to the mountains of paper we generate in out business when I'm out in the field .
        • 057 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Love , Love my scanner ! Have fun !
        • 059 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) First , a little background : It's painfully obvious to anyone who comes over to my house that I can't effectively manage paper . There is stuff spread across my desk as if placed there by a tornado , and ditto with the floor and the couch . It accumulates because it comes in via the mail much faster than it exits through the shredder . Maybe it's why I'm not yet married . On a computer , however , the situation is much different . My computers ( all six of them ) are perfectly organized internally . I have a Linux-based fileserver with a nice RAID system that creates automatic backups to an NAS and nightly syncs with iDrive , a web-based backup . In addition , I have two rotating external hard drives , with one of them occupying the safe deposit box for every month . Suffice it to say that I have a well-organized computer system with multiple levels of redundancy for data integrity . About 2 years ago I got the bright idea of playing to my strengths rather than my weaknesses . I decided I would start scanning in all of my documents into the computer using my trusty old Epson flatbed scanner and then throw away the original documents . I've been decent at doing that , but it's a major pain . So here comes the Fujitsu Scansnap 1500M . With my previous scanner , it takes about 60 - 90 seconds per page for it to scan , then to choose the boundaries for that given page , then the file to save it to . And it had a couple minute warmup period if the Epson hadn't been used in a while . The Scansnap is so fast that it's scary . It reads both sides of the document simultaneously , automatically detects if there's anything on the back side to add to the resulting PDF file , automatically determines that size of the page , automatically scans in either color or black and white , and automatically assembles a multi-page PDF file rather than the multitude of JPEG page 1 , page 2 , page 3 etc files that I had created using my old scanner . The sheet feeder works beautifully , and I've tested it with Christmas cards , receipts from Home Depot , and even my 120 - page legal-size mortgage papers . It was almost fun to scan in the mortgage documents , although I did have to split it into two parts because 120 pages was a little much for the sheet feeder . Still , though , to get 2 PDF files rather than 120 JPEG files like I would have before , completely automated within a couple minutes rather than several hours of greuling work is a huge improvement . And did I mention this thing is FAST ? There is no warmup time , and as previously mentioned it simultaneously scans both sides of the documents . I'm now looking for things around my house to scan ! The software was a breeze to install , and I went to Fujitsu's website and downloaded the latest version of their scan manager software because I'd heard of problems with Snow Leopard . I can't say if that's true without the download , but it works perfectly for me . This scanner is the real deal , and will save you countless hours scanning all of your documents . And I can now see my floor again !

        • 061 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I bought the ScanSnap S1500M for a specific project related to work . We had a large volume of client documents to scan and my old scanner , part of an inketjet all-in-one , simply couldn't cut it . I'm completely impressed by the ease , speed and quality of this Fujitsu scanner . It's now part of my office workflow and is the key to converting everything to a paperless environment . I was initially hesitant to spend this amount of money and reluctant to add another device to my office , however , I now can't imagine living without it ! I give the ScanSnap S1500M my highest rating .

I bought one for my Texas office and one for my Ohio office . One glitch : When I changed Mactinosh operating systems from Tiger to Snow Leopard , the scanning software required a patch provided by Fujitsu . Seems Fujitsu was not totally prepared to deal with changes between the two operating systems . . . but they did provide a temporary remedy in the form of a patch . Fujitsu indicates they are working on the problem as will solve it soon .

        • 066 4  I've been using this scanner non-stop for two months now . It was very simple to set up and worked immediately , perfectly . No strange settings to hassle with , no configurations to make , hook it up , install the software , and start scanning . I've scanned everything from stacks of papers to receipts to credit and business cards and it does it all without a hitch . I was also quite impressed with how well its OCR software works - - convert your scans into MSWord or MSExcel documents - - just beautiful ! It scans very quickly and I've only had it mis-feed once thus far . Even when it mis-feeds it is efficient and simple : it gives you the option to correct the paper and keep scanning OR to delete the scan and start over . This little scanner has made my life so much easier , I cannot believe I waited so long to buy it . For years I suffered with my various little HP all-in-ones which were excruciatingly slow and rigged with constant hassles . This little bugger zips along and even scans two-sided items simultaneously ( it just sucks the paper through once , it doesn't re-feed it to scan the other side ) . I could not be happier with this thing and love how small its footprint is when not in use . This scanner is A + all the way , well worth its price and then some !
        • 067 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This is an amazing item .
        • 070 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This machine came highly recommended and had rave reviews . What those high recommendations and rave reviews didn't say was that this machine frequently jams and has destroyed documents I had to file with the courts . The document feeder constantly clicks and more often than not doesn't take the paper . It was supposed to scan up to 50 pages , but my machine has never come close to that . The most it has taken is five sheets . Worse , there was no user's guide included in the box that I could have used to troubleshoot the jamming and clicking problem . I guess I'm supposed to learn everything by osmosis . People told me that the price was worth it because of the Adobe software , but the Adobe 8 software that came with the machine won't load onto my MacBook Pro . Maybe the problem is with Snow Leopard , but Fujitsu should have planned for this ! At any rate , scanning with the ScanSnap is extremely slow because it always jams and I have to feed it one page at a time .

        • 072 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I really did not want to spend this much money , but thanks to the other inspiring reviews ( and reviewers ) I made the jump . I couldn't be happier with this choice . The scanner is fast , elegant , and surprisingly compact : like an adult-sized shoebox , but slightly taller at the back end . The software , which was updated recently and significantly improved control over filing choices for the scanned docs , is E-Z and very smart . Even the packaging reflected a great deal of intelligence and care . Yes , occasionally it jams . Mostly this seems as a result of a combination of certain papers that have a certain ' stickiness ' to the hand . As has been said before , you learn the tricks to avoid it , and when it happens ( rarely ) it's a zip to undo . It was the catalyst for a complete change of approach to all my paper records and bookkeeping . Now , months of agony later ( agony from having to sort through a decade's worth of documents ) I am substantially closer to being paperless , both in my work ( consulting ) and at home . Liberation ! Thank you , Fujitsu , for so beautifully designing a product for Mac users .

        • 074 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Like a lot of people , I still have a lot of paper coming to my home . There are bills that from smaller companies that cannot be made electronic , receipts , business cards and other paper that I have been trying to file into my physical filing system : a filing cabinet with appropriately labeled folders . Physical filing is a pain , of course , so much so that I don't like doing it and paper often backs up until I break down and spend hours filing it all away . Also , physical systems are not at all fast to search . After researching all the options to have a paperless home office for my Mac-based home , I settled on the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M and DevonThink Pro Office ( DTPO ) . The scanner and DevonThink work brilliantly well together . The scanner is very fast ( 2s per page ) , and its software figures out whether to scan one or both sides of the page as it slides through the machine , and the orientation is also corrected to be upright even if a document is sideways or upside down . Used with DTPO ( which , like the ScanSnap 1500M , comes with Abby Reader's excellent OCR software ) , there is one-button convenience : hit the large , blue-lit Scan button on the thing , and the PDF + Text document is automatically placed in the Inbox of my DevonThink database . Since DTPO learns how to classify things , I can often click Auto classify and the document will then be sorted into its proper folder . I now almost look forward to filing my physical paper because it's so easy and - - dare I say it - - fun . . . so much so that paper no longer piles up . Also , if I need to find an important document , I can easily search , either using Spotlight or , typically , using the brilliant search capabilities of DevonThink ( I know this is a review for the ScanSnap 1500M , but in my case it is inextricably intertwined with DTPO ) . Even without DTPO , this is an excellent paperless office scanner , for its driver allows you to sort incoming documents into the folder of your choice . Yes , I have had the occasionally ragged receipt that has jammed , but un-jamming is brain-dead easy : you lift the front cover and pull the paper out . Other than that , this scanner has processed hundreds of flimsy-looking receipts , business cards and large , multi-page documents with aplomb . This scanner is completely compatible with Snow Leopard , but at the time I bought it , I needed to download a new driver from Fujitsu's website ( the URL was in the manual ) . In short , I highly recommend this scanner to any Mac owner who wants to rid themselves of the drudgery of filing paper .

        • 076 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I tried a friend's before I bought this . Love it .
        • 078 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I am not one to take the time to write product reviews , but I am so impressed by the ScanSnap S1500M that I feel I need to do it . About seven years ago I got tired of trying to manage all my paperwork and committed to moving to a paperless home office . I purchased a top-rated All-in-One printer with a duplex paper feeder to do the scanning . I did the scanning with both a Windows PC and a Mac , but either way the process was BRUTAL . Scanning was slow , paper would jam , images would be crooked , the feeder would refuse to accept paper with folds in the wrong places , often the feeder would accidentally pull in more than one piece of paper at a time . I probably lost four or more hours each month scanning all of my paper . The ScanSnap is amazing ! First , it is lightning fast : it will scan a double-sided document made up of five pieces of paper in about ten seconds . Less-than-ideal paper that my All-in-One would choke on goes right through . The images are perfect , with great resolution and automatic image straightening . The options to send the image directly to email , Word , a folder , the printer , and so forth are simple to use and reliable . I have never seen a better scanner . Buy it , now . You won't regret it . Negatives ? Hmm . Well , this is not a negative but just an observation : chances are I would have been just fine with a lesser ScanSnap , the 300 or 510 . Also , while the software is fine , it is a shame that the software bundle is not as rich as that the comes with the Windows version of the S1500 - - that one has some pretty sweet document management software as well as Adobe Acrobat Professional Version 9 ( rather than the Version 8 that we get ) . One last comment : Don't believe those reviews that tell you that the ScanSnap scanners do not work with Snow Leopard . I do not doubt that this was true when those reviews were written , but these days ( I am writing this review in March of 2010 ) that problem has long since been resolved . I will say that because you need to first install the ScanSnap Manager from the included CD , and THEN have to go to the Fujitsu website to get the Snow Leopard upgrade the process is a bit of a pain . By now they really should be bundling the Snow Leopard-capable CD with the ScanSnap .

        • 082 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I recently purchased the ScanSnap as I was tired of manually putting multipage docs on a flatbed . This thing is as advertised . Easy to use and fast . The only issue is if you try to scan documents that on very thin paper , like carbon copies and such , they will get crunched up . There is a plastic sleeve included for these kinds of scans . All in all , this is one the better peripheral purchases I've made in a long time . Huge thumbs up .

        • 084 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Upon opening the box I was pleasantly surprised at how small the scanner is and that it would take up even less space on my desk than I had anticipated . The set-up of the scanner was very easy , though it took a good bit longer than planned due to all of the software updates that had to be downloaded for the provided software . I wish that Fujitsu had provided Adobe Acrobat 9.0 rather than 8.0 , especially since I think that would have reduced the large number of software updates . BTW , the Adobe Acrobat Pro software alone retails for $449 which is * more * than the cost of the scanner alone - - what a deal ! After reading all of the glowing reviews for this scanner on Amazon I had high expectations for this workhorse and it has not disappointed . I have scanned several thousand pages of text and it is amazing how fast each page is scanned and the speed is not diminished for two-sided scans . I've tweaked the default settings to reduce the file sizes - - I've been using either B & W or Gray scans instead of color and it seems to save about 50% . The quality of the scans is outstanding and looks to be even better than what you would get from a Xerox machine . I've only had one paper jam and had expected many more as the scanner happily ingests even tattered cancelled bank checks . One final word on the scanner's speed - - it scanned the checks faster than my shredder could shred them .

        • 088 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) How would you like to be able to scan a scaled 8.5 x 11 sketch and reproduce it by printing from a Mac friendly printer , to scale ?

Just getting started on scanning many boxes of my wife's writings . She is a writer of poetry and short stories . As with most writers , a collection of drafts and research accumulates over time . Now we are attacking these many boxes of writings with ScanSnap to make all of this data readily available and searchable . So far ScanSnap has lived up to all of its promise . I would recommend it to anyone wishing to keep a record of bills , documents , tax information , personal historical information , etc . , etc .

I just got an email from Fujitsu that they had a new driver with full support for Snow Leopard , and it works great so far ! I already would have given this scanner a 9 out of 10 . . . now it gets a solid 10 ! Scans fast , scan quality is very good ( although not designed to be a great photo scanner ) , and the software interface makes it so very easy to manage the scanned documents . Highly recommended ! ! !

        • 094 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This is a great scanner .
        • 096 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This scanner is amazing ! Using it , I have digitized three full file cabinet drawers of personal papers in fairly short order , and sold the unnecessary file cabinet ! Others have already written about the fantastic speed , the simultaneous scanning of front and back sides , and the great value of getting a full version of Adobe Acrobat included . What I haven't seen mentioned are a few of the scanner's quirks . To be clear , these quirks do not detract from the scanner's performance enough to justify anything less than a 5 - star review , because this scanner is fantastic . Auto Color Detection : By default , the scanner will detect whether a document should be saved in B & W , grayscale , or color . Usually , it makes its decision correctly , but not quite often enough for me to rely on it . When I was scanning a large stack of credit card statements , it would have a hard time determining whether the small amount of color in the company logo at the top of the page justified color scanning - about half of the documents it determined should be color , and half grayscale . Less often , it selects B & W when grayscale would be more appropriate . Unfortunately , this feature means you either have to spend the time to change scanning profiles depending on whether you want color or not , or just accept the seemingly arbitrary decision-making of the scanner . Auto Quality Detection : Similar to the color detection above , the scanner will , by default , attempt to determine which of three quality levels to use when scanning documents . Given the very efficient PDF compression , this is an easy fix for me , as I just configure it to scan in high quality all the time . Occasionally , for special archival needs , I may up the quality to the highest setting ( which the scanner will not select when using auto quality detection ) , but this is probably overkill for really any document . Snow leopard : [ [ UPDATE ] ] As of 11 / 16 , Fujitsu has released updated drivers for Snow Leopard that actually restore functionality to the full scan snap manager suite . [ [ / UPDATE ] ] Other than those issues , I can't imagine how you would design a better document scanner . I'm tempted to buy another one for my office , just so I don't have to use the hulking , multiple-thousand-dollar professional document center that is slower , produces worse quality PDFs , and that I have to share with the other users in my office .

But , I wish I had all of the functions of the ScanSnap software ( missing a few , due to Snow Leopard conflicts ) I hope they fix it soon . Wish I would have purchased it sooner . The ability to scan both sides of a document in 1 pass is a true wonder . I am using it with my Neat software and they are great team . Speed , ease of use , and a small foot print are positives for this scanner .

        • 107 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I got this scanner to convert my textbooks to PDFs so I didn't have to lug 15 pounds of books with me every day . I purchased this scanner based on the reviews compared to several other models . This seemed to be the best bang for your buck at the time . I am very pleased with the results . So far I have scanned over 120 books , mostly academic works that are 500 + pages each . ( I am a grad student so I will be keeping these books and using them for a long time ) So here is my assessment : 1 . The speed is nice . I don't have a benchmark to compare it to , but the ADF works great . 2 . Jams are minimal . Jams usually happen when pages are stuck together . This is almost always my fault because I have managed to leave some glue on the binding . Some paper is really slick and thin and it has trouble getting picked up by the ADF . This was rare . 3 . The Software is good . I discovered that if you have it OCR the text right after the scan it will do a very large book just fine but if you try to use the software after you scan an image pdf it will crash . I have not retested this in Snow Leopard , but this was a real problem in Leopard . Make sure you check the box that says OCR the whole document , not just the first page . As far as ORC goes , it does a good enough job . If I have a lot of marking and underlining in the book , I use Omnipage Pro on a PC . I export the text and use text to speech , so accuracy is fairly important to me . If the page doesn't have marking on it , the OCR is 99% accurate . 4 . Great Quality Scans . I have not tried photos yet , but it does great color scans . You can set it for B & W , Grayscale , Color , and Auto . I had trouble with Auto at first because it would often scan an ivory colored page in color , resulting in a huge PDF . I have since discovered that B & W is excellent for text only . The lowest quality results in about sub 50Mb books most of the time . The file doubles in size with the next step up . Color scans can result in 2 or 3 Gb books . 5 . The physical footprint is small . I was actually surprised by how little space it takes up . It is about the size of a toaster , just a little bigger . 6 . My only real complaint is you get Acrobat 8.0 . It actually works fine , it's just the older version . They may have fixed this . For the price , you would think they would include the new version . Overall , I give it 5 stars . I definitely recommend this scanner if you are in the market . While the software is somewhat limiting , it is simple to use ( just push a button ) . There really isn't great OCR software for Macs anyways .
        • 108 4  I got this scanner to convert my textbooks to PDFs so I didn't have to lug 15 pounds of books with me every day . 6 . • 109 4  Few Products ever exceed my expectations . The ScanSnap 1500 is one of the best peripherals for computers I have ever owned . The machine is exceptionally small and takes up hardly any room on a desk . Using the machine and software is intuitive . A little experimentation with the business card reader was needed but worked easily after a few minutes . Have scanned hundreds of pages already . The organizational possibilities of fast scanning are a paradigm shift in filing . Highly recommend this device for eliminating paper and actually being able to find what ever document you need in minutes . Exceptional Device ! ! !
        • 110 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I needed a quick way to scan bulk financial records , and the Fujitsu ScanSnap did the job perfectly for me . Installing all the software that comes with the scanner took some time , but the scanner and software worked the first time I started it up and has worked nearly flawlessly since . I've not had to change any settings , as the defaults for scanning to a PDF worked well for me . I've not scanned any photos , but I did scan a few hand drawn pictures and the color fidelity was pretty darn good without any calibration of any sort . Recommended .

        • 113 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Okay . . . I don't write many reviews , and I would never ( usually ) spend an obnoxious amount of money for a scanner for home use . . . but I am striving to be more OCD and track receipts and documents . I scoured the products available for the Mac , and decided I would try this one . I already own a Neat portable scanner that was worked well , but was way too slow . I figured that I'd buy this , and if it was mediocre , I'd return it . I have several Macs and run Snow Leopard . This is amazing . It is wickedly fast , produces terrific scans ( even photos ) , and has an ease of use that is intuitive . The software is really good ( compares favorably to Neat ) and I am able to email , store , or print scans instantly . I am really impressed with this . Flawless on my MBP ( 2.5 GHz , Snow Leopard ) , but also terrific on an old Mac Mini running Panther , which I have dedicated to the scanner . Bottom line : No fear with this baby . Still pangs of guilt over the price , but if I become better organized , it'll be worth it .

        • 115 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I love this scanner .
        • 117 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I purchased this scanner about a month ago and its worked wonderfully - - the only issue I had was with the included Adobe software - - it wouldn't load kept saying I had an invalid number - - upon taking a ridiculously long time to reach the out of the country customer service at Adobe I was told the activation key was not current and had to contact Fujitsu - - seemed very strange to me - - upon contacting Fujitsu - - which was very easy and explaining the problem I received the best customer service from any tech company I've ever dealt with - - it was pretty clear from the beginning that this really was an Adobe problem and Fujitsu could have easily bounced me back to them . Instead they escalated me to a higher level tech support and went out of their way to get it fixed ASAP - - Great job Fujitsu ! ! ! I can really understand why Apple doesn't want to do business with Adobe - - they suck ! !

The ScanSnap 1500M delivers ! The setup is incredibly easy and you will be able to start eliminating all of the paper that clutters up your home / office . I have used it to scan all sizes of paper ( including those really long receipts from places like Best Buy ) and have had great success . It is well worth the time to read the manual and really understand all that this device can do . I have now eliminated the stacks of papers that I had sitting around my home office and now scan any incoming mail items , receipts , etc . Complement this with a mozy subscription ( [ . . . ] ) for remote backup and you are on your way to a much better way to live . I highly recommend it .

        • 121 4  I have pounds and pounds ( think multiple banker boxes filled to the brim ) of invoices , statements , and other important documents . I started scanning them with an Epson Perfection 4490 OFFICE . I would let the automatic document feeder scan into Photoshop and then I would save the image files individually . A 5 page invoice would be 5 large image files . This was OK when I could get a stack of paper that were all the same size . But I had plenty of non-letter sized statements ( department store credit cards were the worst offenders ) . So , I would just put those in a box with the hopes of scanning them later . That never happened . And double sided pages ? Yup , into the box . I didn't have time to scan a stack of paper , then rescan the back sides of that same stack , then figure out which pages went in what order and deal with page rotation if I stuck the stack in upside down . Then I found the ScanSnap S1500M . I heard of nice document scanners for Windows , but at the time , I wasn't aware of any made for the Mac . With an overwhelming number of 5 star ratings on Amazon , I just had to bite the bullet and see if it was the right solution for me . First , it's small . The document feeder support slides in . The output tray folds up . When not in use , it's very compact . I like that it stays tucked under a small shelf that I have on my desk . It's pearly white . I find it nicer than the typical black or gray products typically marketed at Windows users . As others have said , this thing EATS paper in a very , very good way . I can put a stack of about 30 - 40 sheets of all different sizes , press the button on the scanner and paper flies through it like nobody's business . It's scanning both sides simultaneously and VERY quickly . It detects mis-feeds and jams and does a good job of stopping , warning you and guiding you with how to proceed . It's very easy to clear a jam . I just put the pages back into the ADF and let it continue scanning . But , it handles typical tri-fold statements with ease . I thought it would get caught up trying to scan each of those pages as the creases would cause paper to stick together ( which happened all the time with my ADP for my Epson scanner ) . Most of my statements are letter size , but I'll throw in smaller sized paper as well as legal size all in one stack . It handles it all without any fuss . Once the scanner has done its job , the ScanSnap software takes over . I have it OCR everything so that I can have searchable PDFs . The software will attempt to automatically rotate and crop each page . It'll miss on the rotate on occasion , but it handles the different paper sizes very , very well . I was shocked . The output is a PDF that has an image of your document , but with hidden text ( that was OCRed ) so that you can search the document . Sometimes the placement of the hidden text is slightly off from the actual word ( s ) in the image , but it's close enough that I can find whatever I'm looking for . I'd much rather have this solution than a true OCR where it attempts to replace scanned words with searchable text . This process takes some time . I'd say a few minutes for about 30 sheets ( 60 sides ) running on my late model Mac Pro . Then you get a window that lets you decide what you want to do with these scans . I always want to save the files to my file system , but you have options to email them , print them , send to MS Word , send to MS Excel , Cardiris ( I don't know what this is ) , or send to iPhoto . When scanning to folder ( as the option is called ) , a new window opens that lists all of your files ( using the long , unique temporary filenames that the software gave each file ) , a larger preview window to the left , as well as some options for destination folder ( local folder , network folder , MobileMe folder ) . This window , while functional , is terrible to use from a usability standpoint . It really feels like a port of a bad Windows version . You can't resize the panel that contains the filenames , and yet when maximized , there is A LOT of unused space . Scrolling through a list of 60 filenames but only being able to see 5 at a time is frustrating . By previewing each page , I uniquely name the files . Beware of pressing ESC key ! All of your work of renaming the files will vanish as the entire window closes and you're back to the options of what you want to do with the scans . I've done that at least 3 - 4 times and it's so frustrating to have to rename them all again . When you're done renaming the files , click the Save button and all of the files are moved ( and renamed ) to your specified target directory . While having each page ( or side of a sheet of paper ) stored as its own PDF file is fine ( it's better than when I saved them as images ) , I then use Acrobat to rotate the few pages that it didn't rotate correctly and then merge pages into a single PDF . So , instead of having sets of 5 files per statement , I can have one PDF that contains 5 pages . Perfect ! The net result is that the final PDFs are significantly smaller in size ( about 20% of the size ) than the PNGs that I was storing ( I didn't take the time to play with the scan settings . . . I just took what Epson gave me as the default settings for office mode ) . I get multi-page searchable PDFs . And , most importantly , I'm able to get rid of all these boxes of paper . It frees up physical space in my cramped office . These important documents are now backed up to my Drobo for safe keeping . And , my shredder is getting one heck of a workout . Fujitsu has done an amazing job with the hardware . Their software could really use an overhaul . But , even in its current state , I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone who has the need to scan documents . To me , the higher price is WELL worth it compared to a $200 photo scanner with an automatic document feeder attachment . The time this scanner is saving easily covers the purchase price and then some ! My Epson Perfection 4490 has now been relegated to only scanning photographs and slides . Anyone want an automatic document attachment for their 4490 ? : )
        • 122 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) As I have moved towards a paperless Mac-only office I have had to deal with the problem of scanning . Heretofore we have used a Xerox DocuMate 252 for the office scanner . It has been good and reliable and was used primarily by my assistant who had a Windows machine . I have now replaced the old Acer with a Apple Mac mini MC238LL / A Desktop which left the DocuMate relegated to the only Windows computer in the office , my bookkeeper's . So keeping in mind the old adage , to the boss go the newest toys , I put my old ScanSnap S510M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner on that my assistant's desk and took the new S1500M for myself . I am pretty partial to the Scansnap line and even carry a Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 Color Mobile Scanner around in my briefcase . This is a superb scanner for Mac . It is quiet and fast . It comes with Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Professional [ OLD VERSION ] an expensive and useful piece of software in its own right . There is some Snow Leopard configuration required , an annoying omission months after its debut , but it is an easy fix . The scan quality of all the ScanSnap scanners for Mac is excellent and of course it duplexes automatically . I wish the paper feed was a bit larger , and the plastic guides are not sturdy enough to guarantee a straight feed , but then again what paper feed doesn't jam from time to time ? All and all this is a worthwhile investment for those aspiring to a paper-free world . Five well-deserved stars !

        • 126 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This is a great product ; I am so pleased with my purchase .
        • 128 4  Words can't really express how much I love this scanner . Talking about its qualities isn't adequate to explain why I have an emotional attachment to it . Is it because it has allowed me to become so much more paperless , which has liberated me as a human being ? Because it's quiet , and I really appreciate quiet products ? Because it's fast , and I know the PAIN and agony of having a slow scanner ? Because the scanning software is easy to use , and my last scanner's software was . . . unmentionably horrible ? Because it can scan crayon or things you wouldn't want to put through a scanner , by putting it in a clear plastic case that comes with the scanner ? Because it can scan business cards , small sized scraps of paper , and index cards of all sizes ? ( I use a lot of index cards to take notes ) . I don't know . . . I love this scanner and this list of reasons do not seem to adequately explain why . It's not perfect . In general the sheet-feed is good , but sometimes a few pages do stick together , which is my only issue with it . You can pop it apart if paper gets stuck in it , though . Despite sometimes eating too many pieces of paper , its speed and general amazingness still rank it a five-star product in my book . I think I probably love this scanner because most printers and scanners are offensive to human dignity , but the ScanSnap is not . I have a friendly , human feeling when I use it . It is what an ideal machine should be : easy , friendly , sturdy , reliable , quick , quiet , effective . It's one of my favorite purchases ever . I'm glad to see there are a lot of other happy ScanSnappers who wrote reviews here , too . I'm in good company , and I think you will be too if you buy one .

This scanner is about the size of an oversize loaf of bread . It unfolds to hold the paper feeder and the scanned paper shelf . Nothing falls on the floor . The scanner screen is very durable . Most paper jams are due to hidden staples that would scratch other scanner screens . Color and black & white scans are automatic , sharp and true . Set up is simple . Plug in and go with the scanner software defaults . Unlike HP software drivers , which ( if you can find them for Snow Leopard ) are slow and full of bugs , the Fujitsu drivers and software work flawlessly . When there is a paper jam , the software error screen pops up detailing the problem in the ADF ( automatic document feeder ) , how many pages were scanned properly , and what to do to resolve the problem and continue scanning . Other applications ( Mariner's Paperless ) create databases of documents and receipts for searching . Thousands of legal documents are now in PDFs and stored on DVDs , Time Capsule and on [ . . . ] The amount of floor and cabinet space released by this scanner is well-worth the price . Those few original documents required for safekeeping are where they should be , in a safety deposit box . This scanner is used for check deposit scanning . At first , the bank wouldn't accept the resolution - - 300 dpi default was too great . We had to set the scanner to 200 dip grayscale .

        • 132 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) A great product .

It's adorable , fast , easy to set up , and easy to use . I've only had it a month , but I have no complaints yet . Note : the scan quality is quite good for anything on typical office paper , but not so hot with glossy Photographs . If you want to do photos , a flatbed is still the best bet .
        • 138 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) After being a little hesitant due to other reviews I ordered the Scansnap . Upon arrival like others I found that it looks much better in person than pictured and also includes adobe pro 8.0 for Mac . I installed the software did an update check with scan-snap and then began to scan documents . I was actually quite amazed at how fast this thing can scan in relation to it's size . I have already been able to scan several textbooks for school which makes it easier for me to carry all my books . Be aware though that this does require removing the binding , this is simple and only require a drive to kinko's and 1.49 out of your pocket . The great thing with the included software you are able to combine and edit pdfs . I am now able to copy all of my books and carry them anywhere I go . This is particulary useful for cookbooks and when I go visit family so I have all my material with me without having to carry several books .

        • 145 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Needed a document scanner for the office which would just work .
        • 147 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I hemmed and hawed about scanners like this for a long time .

        • 151 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I was a little concerned about the higher than average price , but after I got it and installed it , I wondered what the other brands were shouting about . This is a Fantastic Scanner ! It scans in both sides at about 20 pages a minute . I save all of my scans to pdf , which it does beautifully ! It auto-rotates landscape pages , even when scattered within other portrait pages . It does have a Snow Leopard issue , but there is a fix that allows scans to go direct to Acrobat Pro 8 ( included ) - my preferred mode . I would highly recommend this product , especially for those who wish to rid themselves of paper .

        • 153 4  After struggling with a desire to scan documents into electronic format for some time , the hold up was usually how long it takes to use a traditional flatbed scanner . The SnapScan is very fast and easy to use . I was surprised by how fast a stack of documents could be scanned and with decent quality . I wouldn't expect to use this for photo scanning , however .
        • 154 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This scanner is amazing . I've had a lot of scanners over the years but they've all been slow with annoying software that works well for the occasional dozen page scan , but get very frustrating with anything more than that . The ScanSnap and boxed software just fly through folders and folders worth of paper . By the end of the first weekend I had completely archived 3 banker's boxes worth of paper sitting around my house taking up space . Now I can store them all in the size of a CD-ROM . Paper jams are simple to resolve and cleaning takes just a few minutes because all the scanning elements are easily exposed by opening the front latch and wiping a damp cloth across the glass and blowing out the dust with some canned air . Highly recommend , and well worth the price .

        • 156 4  I've always been dubious of the paperless office ; I always joked that the paperless bathroom would arrive before the paperless office . Well , I take back that joke now that I've had the ScanSnap for a week . While I'll never have a truly paperless office , with the help of the ScanSnap I've reduced one drawer of my jammed filing cabinet in half . I anticipate , over time , that I'll be able to reduce my total paper storage to between 1 / 4 and 1 / 3 of what it's been previously . The ScanSnap quickly and efficiently gobbles up a years worth of bank statements at a time ( double sided ! ) and produces good quality scans with the default settings . Very thin or wrinkled receipts sometimes require some manual tending but that effort invested is relatively minor . A bonus of being able to scan receipts efficiently is I'm actually more prone to track my spending on minor purchases . No more sticking receipts in an envelope to be forgotten and linger in my filing cabinet . I've only scanned a few business cards but the included CardIris software seems to do a great OCR job of populating the appropriate fields and sending the results to AddressBook ( on a Mac ) .
        • 157 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I needed a fast scanner for home . I have an HP multifunction device but the scanner is painfully slow . I absolutely love the ScanSnap . I use it with my IMAC . I also love the fact that it comes with Acrobat Professional version 8 . The scanning is amazingly fast . I have already plowed through a pile of documents that were sitting on a table . This is definitely one of the best purchases I've ever made . If you are looking for a fast , color duplex scanner you will certainly love this one .

        • 159 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I reviewed their video , called them for more information before I bought one . Since I am new to APPLE I have found many accessories I have do not work with APPLE . The first information I received stated that this product was not on the market yet but when I put my order in I got it . My first challenge was that I could not scan to a folder . I called and got an immediate response although they had to call me back with an expert but that was great since their promise is to call you back if they can't give you an immediate answer . I received a phone call and an e-mail telling me that a new program was out for SNOW LEOPARD of which I have that requires a download software . I downloaded the program and everything I tried to do has worked . I am happy with the speed . I like the smaller version however I have so many documents and photos I picked this one . I have scanned over 2000 pictures and several documents and was very happy with the speed . The negative part : I printed the manual and most of the pages were a waste . The first part was for A PC which did have some general information for both a PC and MAC . THE CLEANING can be done with Isopropyl alcohol , which the tech rep recommended 91% ALCOHOL or higher to avoid having a scum on the glass and rollers . I scanned a lot of pictures and when I checked them some had a yellow line meaning rollers need to be clean . Some pictures didn't matter , others I rescanned . I did not check the continuing scanning box so when I finished part of the set the scanner asked me where did I wanted to send the pictures . My wife accidently checked the setting and she was prompt did she want to continue scanning that is very important if you have a lot to scanned of one series to scan . The purpose of a scanner is to get rid of paper but I needed to print the manual until I am more familiar with APPLE . The pages are very clear however you will waste a lot of paper printing this because the instructions are about 1 / 3 of the pages and in large fonts with a drawing of the scanner .
        • 161 4  Beware , if you're a Mac user , this no longer works with Snow Leopard . Technical Support at Fujitsu emailed me back and said , The expected ETA is going to be the end of this year for them to fix this ! Yikes . A great product rendered useless . . . .
        • 162 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Scan Snap is a great device and totally compatible with Mac . Reliable and rarely if ever breaks ( I had another one with a PC for 4 years ) . Only request would be for the instructions to include how to change settings so you can get continuous scanning and other options . I called Fujitsu and they were very helpful and solved my question in minutes . Overall I would highly recommend .

        • 164 4  This scanner is far better than expected . It is entirely automatic . Put the paper in the sheet feeder . ( It does not jam . ) It VERY RAPIDLY scans both sides . You are then prompted to indicate what you want to do with the scanned data . Simple . The image quality is exceptional . The entire process is far better than the many multi-purpose printer-scanner-fax-copiers I have had . It is quick and easy , delivers sharp and accurate reproduction , and comes with excellent software . • 165 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Amazing ease of use .

Great for a small office space . You do have to be carful where you place it in your office , or you will continually bumb into the fold out tray , it has to go in an out of the way place , other than that , I am very pleased with the performance .

        • 171 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I did a lot of research before I bought this scanner , because I needed it to work perfectly right out of the box . In 10 days I needed to scan 3000 pages of documents . I was worried about how it would work with my Mac and with Snow Leopard - - but it worked seamlessly . I can't say enough good things about this fabulous little workhorse . In the first 10 days , I easily scanned 6200 pages ! ( double what I expected to be able to do . ) The only times I had problems was when I forgot to take out a staple ( but even then , it easily goes back online and corrects the mistake without having to restart the entire scan ) . I love that it comes bundled with Adobe Acrobat Pro - - which makes all the scans work with Adobe's OCR . And it folds up into a tiny box that is easy to carry . This is a fantastic machine - - worth every penny .

        • 173 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) The ScanSnap S1500M is just incredible . Given the other reviews here , I expected it to be good , but it is even better than I imagined . It's smaller than I thought it would be , and that's good . It sits neatly on a small bookcase next to my desk where it is handy but out of the way . The software that comes with it - - ScanSnap Manager and Adobe Acrobat Professional - - works almost perfectly . I say almost because when it scans a stack of business cards the OCR engine doesn't always get the details in the right places . But with the huge variety of styles in business cards I don't consider that a detraction . I'm really surprised that it gets most of them right . And to get a full version of Acrobat ( although not the latest ) plus a great scanner is a good deal at this price . In the two days since I received my scanner I have scan several hundred documents and receipts of all sizes and the only glitch was when I scanned a super long register receipt from Sears . I had to hold down the scan button until it started flashing and then rescan the receipt - - that's it . If you want to free yourself from mountains of paper in a reasonably short time , this scanner is for you . Buy it , you'll like it .

It's fast and easy and within one weekend I had gotten rid of 2 file cabinets and 4 boxes of papers . If you set it on duplex it automatically scans double sided when needed so you don't even need to worry about that . It's taking me longer to shred then to scan . I love it - best money I ever spent !

        • 177 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) For quite some time I have wanted to save all the stuff in my filing cabinet digitally and get rid of the paper , but every attempt I have made with different flatbed scanners have failed , mostly because the process took too long and was too labor intensive ( scan page , wait , turn page over , scan again , wait . . . . you get the picture ) . Then I found the Scansnap S1500M and wow , what a difference . This scanner will scan both sides in one pass and it is fast . I have it set to check all pages of the document and to create searchable PDF's so I can use spotlight to search and find what I am looking for . I am running Snow Leopard so I had to download the updates from Fujitsu but it all seems to work just fine . The scanner came with Adobe Acrobat professional , but I have not installed that yet since my objective was to scan and store documents , not manipulate them once they were scanned . Overall , if you are looking for a way to scan in documents that are legal sized or smaller , in simplex or duplex , quickly and efficiently , I would recommend this scanner .

        • 181 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) At first I thought $ [ . . . ] bucks for a scanner ? ! After I got it I couldn't believe it only cost $ [ . . . ] . This thing needs very little work in terms of set up and just scans decent quality images blazingly fast . If I had to buy a new one every six months it would be worth it in terms of productivity . I have a home based solo law practice . This and a decent but cheap monochrome laser printer completely eliminate the need for a $2000 network printer copier . I have not had one hitch as far as scanning stacks of documents and regularly feed in 50 + documents to the feeder . Only issues at all are it occasionally turns a page upside-down ( maybe that's me . . . ) , and on pages where there is lots of really dark writing it can bleed through and copy both sides ( of course the upside is it automatically senses if it needs to copy both sides of a document - - so you can have a mixed stack of single and double sided documents and copy only the documents that actually have content ! ) .

        • 187 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I am a real estate broker and was seeing technology changing from fax to email .
        • 189 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I bought this when I upgraded my office systems with the intention of going paperless , or almost paperless .
        • 191 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) As an attorney running my own practice , I've heard endless raves about the ScanSnap from attorneys moving to a paperless office or even just those who need to scan high volumes of documents for electronic filing with the courts . The price is what kept me away for quite a long time . Then one day I wasted three hours of my life trying to make my HP AIO Officejet 6500 Wireless and PDFSam ( a free PDF split and merge tool ) cooperate . I will spare you the details , but that night I broke down and ordered the ScanSnap . It is , without a doubt , a ridiculously awesome scanner . It's incredibly fast and autotomatically detects whether it's scanning duplicates . The only downside there is that sometimes the backside will get scanned because the ink bled through from the frontside , even though there's nothing there . It's very easy to delete a page like that - - or any other page - - using Adobe Acrobat . In the past 2 - 3 weeks , I've used Acrobat to highlight certain calls on my cell phone records , redact ( black out ) account numbers before forwarding them to other people , and combine all sorts of docs into one PDF . The only problem I've run into is that my laptop is slower after installing Adobe Acrobat . However , my Mac OS is still a Tiger . I'm pretty sure when I upgrade to Snow Leopard that the speed will return to normal or even improve . Make note , also , that this is a document scanner , not a photo scanner . If you're looking to scan hundreds of photos , this isn't the right tool . So , is it worth the price ? For anyone with a high volume of papers , anyone looking to go paperless ( which isn't actually paperless , but shrinks physical files down to the important documents ) , or anyone who needs / wants to manipulate PDF's like a pro , the ScanSnap is definitely worth the price . If you don't need to create whizbang PDF's and rarely have anything you want to scan , probably not . But the fact that you're reading reviews about the ScanSnap probably means you fall into the former category .

        • 195 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) As a med student I purchased this product to scan in all of my notes to make them searchable and more portable . I love it , but my friends love it even more because it has really helped with managing all of the information we are learning . Had it for six months and have not had a problem .

        • 199 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Fujuitsu Scan Snap S1500M works like a charm . Set up took about 10 minutes ( because I stopped to actually read the directions ) . The search feature works well ( OCR ) , automatically scans both sides at once , the menu options for configuring the output are simple but thorough . I highly recommend this product - and the 5star rating is not gratuitous .

A few problems with feeding . I would buy this product again . I also had occasion to contact Fujitsu on a minor issue and got a quick response . I like the company .

        • 207 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This is a great little scanner .

        • 213 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) I have an HP Flatbed scanner and needed a document scanner - this scanner is amazing . Works flawlessly , quality is great , speed is super fast . Now I love scanning things . If you're trying to go paperless or just get rid of clutter , this scanner is a great option .
        • 215 4  Do not buy this if you are planning to upgrade to Snow Leopard . To take 4 months to sort out the software compatibility is unacceptable - rendering a great product totally useless . Buyer beware - You've been warned .
        • 216 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) Easy setup and great product , cant wait for the snow leopard functions to work . But fast and clear scans . You wont be disappointed ! ! !

        • 222 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This scanner is fantastic ! This thing is great .
        • 224 4  I have 2 ScanSnaps and would upgrade except I want the Mac version of Acrobat 9 Pro . It has been out for months . Why is the old 8 Pro version still shipping with Mac version , while PC version has 9 ?
        • 226 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This is a nice product . Finally I have a scanner that does what I want it to do . Easy to use . Fast . Small file size . User friendly .

        • 230 4  No hitches at all . Comes with Adobe Pro 8 which is one version older but no problems for me . Scanner is very small and fits in small places . Overall excellent value

        • 236 4  I'm generally pleased with this - - received it 2 days after my order , impressive ! It's bulkier and heavier than my 5110 , uses a larger power supply ( with no light ) . Paper guides are more substantial and easier to use . The paper feed mechanism looks almost identical with the 5110 , which I find disappointing , but at present it works somewhat better . But the 5110 fed fine for a few dozen copies too , so I'm wary . When scanning ordinary paper without using the plastic document feeder sandwich , straight lines near the sides of the pages waver a lot . I think the paper is flexing , perhaps when a former fold goes by a roller , and moving nearer or farther from the scan head , making the edges look narrower or wider . Using the plastic feeder makes it much steadier , less wavering near the edges . Probably the images are good enough for document retention purposes , likely don't affect OCR much , but could be unusable for other purposes . The paper did go crooked a few times , even jamming against the edges and wrinkling up once , and I was surprised that I didn't see any auto-straightening options ( didn't look at the jpg settings yet though ) . I tried unplugging it and connecting my old 5110 again , and that did work with the new software . However , the 5110 did not gain much if anything in features - - i.e . , if you scan a check oriented as landscape , you lose all but the middle part just as before , while the 1500M correctly finds the check in either orientation , as it does for business cards . Surely that's just a software problem , so I guess the new software invokes the old buggy version when it sees the older unit . So the 1500 seems a significant improvement in some ways ( mixed paper sizes ) , but not as good at edges of ordinary paper ( wavering width in scan ) , and looks like the paper feed should have many of the problems its predecessor had . Perhaps it would pay to save up for one of the professional models ? But Amazon lists most as unavailable . There's just one : Fujitsu fi - 5900C Sheet-Fed Scanner by Fujitsu Buy new : $23,597.99 $20,005.00 That's a bit steep for me . I met a software developer at a show who said the professional versions are much better and have much better software too - - maybe there's a new family about to ship , that would explain the general unavailability just now .
        • 239 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh ( Electronics ) This scanner is teriffic . It was so good I had to order another . But beware , I was hasty in my purchase . I own a PC , not a mac and this version the S1500M is for Mac . If you want if for PC make sure you purchase the S1500 . I did and am happy . Had to return this one though ( the scanner still worked , but the Adobe software won't ) .

        • 243 4  So far does not appear to be as good as the ScanSnap I've used with Microsoft Dell

      • I printed the manual and most of the pages were a waste .
