Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner

  • 039 4  Over a year ago , I watched a demonstration of this scanner at a presentation on outfitting a small office at a reasonable cost . The idea was to get this scanner , a color laser , and subscribe to an internet fax program . Watching the instructor running sheets through it , on his desk , next to his laptop , was great . I wanted this scanner since then , and finally ordered it . Not sure if there is a better , later version , but this is what I saw and knew it worked . I set it up today - very easy - and started scanning . It comes with Adobe Standard version 9 , so documents scan straight to Adobe . I've done documents and photos . I have two sided scan capability on my printer , but this is so small and convenient , just sitting on the desk , no excuse not to scan while you're sitting there . Anyway , it's just been 1 day , but so far I am very happy and would recommend it as highly as the instructor did .
    • 048 4  This is the second Fujitsu Scansnap S1500 I have purchased . The first I have used in my tax preparation business for 1 year and this one I am using at home . These are fast , reliable , easy to use , and come with software that makes the job of filing your documents simple . The price is definitely worth the speed and simplicity at which the scanner operates . The one thing which I don't like is the inability to add additional pages to an existing document . The scanner is not twain compliant and unless I'm missing something this is the problem . Maybe Fujitsu could solve this with an update to the software .
    • 111 4  I've owned six scanners over the past fifteen years however I've never been completely satisfied with any of them . Finally I've found a winner . This little thing is amazing ! ! ! I can't imagine anyone not being happy with this product . Don't hesitate - Buy it .

  • 061 4  Did a lot of research on scanners , and customer feedback kept pointing back to this one . It was more than I wanted to spend as I was originally looking for something low-end , single-sheet fed , however this scanner has saved me hours of time . You just dump a stack of papers in and hit scan . It scans back and front as the default , and is uber easy to use . I also appreciate having Adobe Acrobat Standard packaged with the software , which won me over when debating the purchase , since I use Acrobat in other work I do . It comes with a bunch of organization software , but I just like saving my PDFs to folders .
    • 050 4  This is a phenomenal scanner / software package . The feeder is extremely accurate with few jams or double sheet feeds . The software is fast and intelligent . It reorients and straightens pages , scans both sides , eliminates blank pages automatically , dynamically adjusts for paper size and has extended software to help with cataloging documents with key words . Its compact size and clam shell design takes up very little desk space . The included Adobe Acrobat software creates small files for both color and B & W images .
    • 083 4  The scansnap is expensive , but it works well . There are no problems with the paper getting jammed , the quality is great , and the Adobe Acrobat software that it comes with is a great help in organizing documents . It was very easy to set up and use . I'm sure if it were cheaper , everyone would have one . Still , it's worth the price to have something that works like it's supposed to work .
    • 123 4  This scanner is very functional and the included Adobe Acrobat software and Filing system software make it a great value . It was easy to setup and start using .

  • 069 4  We now have three of these jewels . One of the best investments a small business can make . Get rid of all of that paper on your desk . We scan and e-mail instead of faxing now for a much clearer result and save the send .
    • 113 4  This scanner is excellent . We have been buying them for everyone in the office and no one has any complaints , they love it .

  • 073 4  Although I have just started using it , I can see that it will be a big help in organizing my files . Speed and ease of use are the strongest points . Default Setting includes skipping the scan of blank back pages , but such pages are sometimes scanned when working with thinner paper or bold printing on the front that is picked up through the back of the document . These pages are easily deleted . The scanner has jammed a couple of times due to scanning some thinner pages that were a bit crumpled . Jams are extremely easy to clear , unlike the dreaded jams with my laser printer . So far , I am quite happy that I purchased this item .
    • 006 4  Our office has about six of the predecessor to this scanner - - the S510 . They are extremely dependable and do exactly what they promise . When it came time to get another scanner , I immediately looked for a Fujitsu and found this newer model . I ordered it and got exactly what I expected - a very dependable scanner that needs very little babying . We've been very satisfied with the Fujitsu scanners and will continue to look to them whenever we have a scanning need .
    • 057 4  As others have stated , this is a great scanner . I was up and running within minutes and scanning away . I would have never thought that something this small would work so great . Getting the full version of Adobe was a real plus considering the cost of this software by itself .
    • 065 4  I purchased this scanner based on the multiple positive reviews it had . And I fully agree with them ! . In a couple of months I managed to transform all my documents , recipes , letters , photos and everything else into digital-easy-to-search files . The single problem I had was a curious moire pattern when scanning glossy photos , that I solved scanning face up rather than face down . Great product !
    • 081 4  I ordered this scanner for my personal use and future home office . It is so fast that I love it ! Easy to organize documents and so quick . I can't wait to get rid of a filing cabinet of paperwork .
    • 091 4  I have been looking for a solution to the challenge of keeping up with maintaining a dB of business card information . The only solutions that I had seen previously were the single card scanners which didn't seem practical or very efficient . This product has a feeder for cards AND it scans both sides of the card on one pass . The UI is easy to use and makes the editing process for the card information in the dB very quick . This was a good use of capital and a time saver .
    • 125 4  People in the office are yelling at me to stop scanning everything . Finally really going paperless . Looking forward to see how it holds up after a busy tax season . I think it will get even a higher review then .
    • 131 4  After conducting extensive research and price shopping , I found the perfect portable scanner for home or office use . It is very compact , very easy to use , very fast , very quiet , produces very good images , has lots of optional features , and is very inexpensive when compared to other scanners on the market . In summary , I think this is the best portable scanner on the market , period .
    • 137 4  I have a small business and wanted to become more paperless . The scanner is small and is right next to my computer where I can scan documents and save to my files without leaving my desk . It's a reasonbly priced , fast scanner . I have no negative comments about this product .

  • Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) Amazing ! I bought this based on other reviews here and was amazed by this scanner having 5 stars from almost every review . After installing and using it I now know why . This scanner is almost unbelievably fast and quiet . Pro's : * It scans both sides of a document simultaneously so it doesn't have to scan one side , reverse the paper and scan the other . * It is at least 20 times faster than my old duplex scanner . * DPI for DPI the resolution is much better . * The feed mechanism feeds all types of paper without a problem , even thick card stock , three hole punched and previously stapled papers all without a single double feed . In the first week I scanned over 10,000 pages without a problem . The only drawback , which has been mentioned in other reviews , is the fact that it does not have TWAIN drivers . This did not hinder me as it will scan directly to JPG , MS Word , MS Excel , MS PowerPoint or Adobe PDF formats which should cover 99% of users . The only thing I wish this had was a flatbed option . This scanner also comes with a tremendous software suite that includes : Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard Edition , ScanSnap Organizer 4.0 , ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap 4.0 PC Edition , and CardMinder 4.0 . I bought the deluxe edition that also contains Rack2 - Filer V5.0 which alone costs nearly $200 . The software installs easily and is extremely user friendly . I would recommend this scanner to anyone that doesn't have to have a flatbed . For pure picture and document scanning this thing is fantastic .
    • 066 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) A couple years ago I purchased 2 of the older model ScanSnap S510 for our order-entry workers . They have worked flawlessly . When the time came for a 3rd unit for another worker , I decided to buy the S1500 since it's the same price . I'm again pleased with Fujitsu , it seems like a well built and designed scanner . Like it's predecessor , it's got a very small footprint and easily fits on the desktop without being annoying . The feed is relatively quiet , and it produces excellent quality PDFs in seconds . We don't use the ABBYY or cardminder software , it's simply used for keeping records of our paper documents on network folders .

  • Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) Have been using this scanner for several months now and it is a dream come true . I have an Epson flat bed scanner that I had been using toward my goal to be as paper free as possible but the effort involved with scanning pages one at a time is huge compared to this marvel of technology . The cost of the unit is totally offset with the time savings gained when scanning . Duplex and single sided pages zip right through and I have made a quantum leap forward toward the paper free goal . About a year ago , I purchased an HP autofeed scanner hoping for improvement over the Epson . Big mistake.Using HP software and hardware compared to the ScanSnap is night and day . Highly recommended ! ! And the Cardminder software that comes with this bundle , makes it that much more satisfying because I can get rid of a lot of business cards that I can import into Outlook with a SNAP , a ScanSnap ! ! Of course , the free shipping with Amazon Prime did not hurt either .
    • 029 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I have had the scansnap now for about 2 months . It works just fine . Have not tried the OCR package since mostly what I needed was to scan documents and contracts from time to time to have pdf files that could be emailed . I have had an HP flatbed scanner , used mostly for photo scans , but it was never very good at scanning documents into a single pdf file . The ScanSnap works well , scans quickly and works well . Can scan as jpg files which is good for photos , diagrams and other files that I may want to work on with a photo editing program . Basically , does what they said it would do , quickly , high enough quality , and efficiently . Easy to use . Glad I bought it .
    • 054 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I have three offices needing scanners , had used HP flatbed scanner with feeder before and it jammed very often , and had heard that fujitsu worked better . Scanner is surprisingly small , but works very well , even with different sized papers . Still jams occassionally but very easy to clear and usually can continue scanning saving prior pages without starting all over . Scanning tax returns will scan small W - 2s as well as full size pages without changing settings . Was concerned with no flatbed option but can scan small hard flat items like drivers licenses without problems . Only change I would like to see is when it finds no other papers to scan it does not give you option ( that I found ) to add more pages to scan . I get around by combinging separate forms in pdf format . Purchase includes pdf standard software .

    • 122 4  I recently purchased the ScanSnap S1500 for my law practice . It was a wise investment . After using an HP All-In-One printer / scanner / copier for a few months , and suffering through the slow and unreliable scan function , I decided that it was worth investing in a better machine . The ScanSnap has not disappointed me . It is easy , fast , and really compact . I wish that I had made this purchase months ago !

  • Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I am a computer consultant , and have sold several earlier models of the ScanSnap scanner to my clients . All have tried other , cheaper scanners , and usually quit using them out of frustration . All complained at first about the higher cost of the Fujitsu , but once I set the scanner up in their offices , they are amazed and pleased . It just works , scans both side of a sheet at once , color , black & white , small , large , all with the touch of a single button . Up front , you need to know , this is not a ' twain ' supported scanner . You will not be able to just scan a sheet directly into MS Word or a photo editing software package . If you need that , get a little inexpensive flat-bed scanner . The ScanSnap is a high-speed , production scanner , that scans to PDF or JPEG file formats . Now I am in the process of converting all my own files to digital format , the mythical ' paperless ' office . I have worked with a variety of scanners over the years , and knew this model would work well . Set up is easy , you put in the disks and follow the simple install process ( it does take a while though ) . When that is complete , you plug the scanner into a USB port , and it powers up , and is ready to scan . You can use the default settings for the scanner button , or make changes to suit yourself . Color , both sides , resolution , file naming , etc . can all be adjusted as needed . It will hold about 50 pages to scan , based on the thickness of the paper , but you can set the software to ask to continue to scan when the paper runs out , so you can scan as many pages in one session as your computer's memory can handle . ( or break the scan into sessions , and merge the files together with Acrobat ) The included Acrobat v9 is a great for creating all PDF files of your scans . And you can scan more and add to existing PDF files . You can even import old jpeg files and add them to your PDF files . Works very well . I am now scanning receipts and things as I get them , and add to existing PDF files as I go . A typical scanning process for me , I have a folder set up on my computer called ' 2010 File Cabinet ' , and have set the scanning software to use that as the default location to save files to . I also have the program set to automatically ask me for a file name . Now for my example , I have some credit card receipts , ( the scanner will take a variety of papersizes , and can rotate them as well ) I stack them into the scanner , press the button , and the scanner scans each one , and at the end , prompts me for a file name . I enter ' May gas receipts ' , click enter , and it is done . I now have a PDF file with all my gas receipts for the month . I can open the file with Acrobat , and adjust images , or add other files as needed . Of course once in a while you have a page that jams ( oops fogot to remove a staple ) or is crooked . The software stops the process , you can straighten the paper out , and click on the ' continue scanning ' prompt , and the scanner picks up where it left off . By the way , I have found there is no ' off and on ' button for this model . My clients with older models for-the-most-part leave theirs on all the time . But I like to turn it off when not in use . I found that if you unplug the USB cable , the scanner powers down . And best of all , when you plug the USB cable back in , the scanner is more-or-less instantly available to scan , no warm-up time . The really nice thing is , you can leave the whole system with default setting , which makes it real easy for the less technically inclined , or as I have done , get into the various settings , and create and customize several alternate scan set-ups to get exactly what you want in the most efficent manner possible .
    • 018 4  My girlfriend told me that the level of paper clutter I had was unacceptable , so I began looking for a solution . I've found that for bills this device works great . For some old papers ( scientific ) that I scanned in , I've found a bit more difficulty . More often than not , things work great . Unfortunately , there are some paper jams . When these occur , I find that the software's simplicity works against it and it's not easy to recover from easily . Also , it takes some effort to remove the jam . But , given how rare this happens , I can still recommend this product . The speed is also amazing !

    • 093 4  I have three of these around my office . My staff loves the speed and efficiency of the scans . It is key to having a paperless environment .

  • Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I purchased this scanner as a first step in creating an electronic filing system for a home office . As I accumulated 20 filing cabinet drawers of paper documents going paperless seemed to be an answer . Purchase of the Fujitsu S1500 was based on the numerous 5 star reviews . I am reasonably tech literate and have used the scanner for about 2 weeks . Here are my initial impressions : Pros - 1 . Speed : This scanner seems blazingly fast . Not a resource hog . Will scan duplex 20 - 25ppm at default settings on Win2K / 1.8mhz / 1gb platform . 2 . Scan quality very good at all settings . 3 . Size and looks : Small desk footprint . Looks great open or closed . 4 . Excellent paper feeding as long as documents are same size and 20 # or greater paper weight . Cons - 1 . NO TWAIN DRIVER . I knew this going in but did not appreciate how much this would cripple the device in day to day use . Let me explain . I had envisioned creating a virtual file cabinet in my computer using Windows Directory / Folder / File system then scanning my paper documents into this system as pdf files . The problem is that the native Fujitsu software does not let you append an existing pdf file ! ! ! As an example take a file for utility bills . D : / Home Expenses / Utilities / Gas_Electric.pdf . You can easily scan in all prior bills ( limited by 50 sheet ADF ) and a pdf with one page for each bill will be created . But if you had more than 50 prior bills or when next months bill comes then the next scan you perform to include these new documents will create a new pdf and does not allow the option of appending this more recent scan to the existing pdf . As you can see one could easily end up with 1000s of individual pdf documents in your filing system . The work around is to launch Adobe Acrobat ( not reader ) and use it to open the old composite pdf and use Acrobat to append the newly created pdf to the prior file . This work around takes longer than scanning in a 30 page document . Twain based scanners easily work with existing windows file structure and allow you to append an existing pdf without invoking Acrobat . 2 . Paper catch tray very fragile and ADF paper support does not stay up ( also reported by other reviewers ) . 3 . Double feed sensor : stops scan and reports . This is good . However you cannot retrieve the double fed sheet and place it back in proper order because the next sheet is already in the scanner and cannot be backed out . You have to either cancel the scan and start over or put the unread sheet back in out of order and then use Acrobat to rearrange the pages in the resultant pdf document . If you choose to cancel the scan the document that is halfway into the scanner will not be ejected and you need to perform an new scan to retrieve that sheet . 4 . A scanning run will only handle one size document at a time . In my experience if you have a mix of paper sizes you will need to do a scanning run for each paper size . Each run will generate a separate pdf file with you will then need to deal with . 5 . I paid extra for the scanner bundle with Rack2File software thinking it would help me create the filing system I envisioned . After loading and spending several hours with this software I don't understand how it works or what it is supposed to do . I consider the extra $30 dollars I spent for the bundled scanner money poorly spent . 6 . Other minor annoyances are : While the scanner and snapscan software will run on older platforms the bundled software Rack2file and Acrobat require XPpro SP3 or newer . This is not clear from specs . ADF will hold 40 - 50 sheets but output tray will start to jam after 20 - 25 sheets . Documents printed on less than 20 # paper and with printing on both sides the back side printing will show up on the front side scan . Many commercial invoices are printed both sides on thin paper . Cannot set several default scanning profiles . You need to reset the scanner parameters each time you want a different profile . Bottom line : This would be a 5 star low end document scanner if it only offered a twain driver . As it is I can recommend it only to prospective buyers who understand the full implications of this limitation . I thought of returning this scanner and getting one of the twain based models like the Epson GT S50 but at this point I have learned enough of Acrobat to quickly append my pdfs retrospectively . I strongly recommend avoiding the bundled product since I don't see what added value the Rack2File software brings . I considered giving the scanner a one star review just to get people's attention but the hardware is so good 3 stars seems about right .

    • 021 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I scanned thousands of pages in a single weekend . It is as easy as loading each statement , and hitting the scan button . If you have the SnapScan Manager open in the foreground , it goes right into the application as a PDF . Otherwise , it asks you where you want to scan to . The SnapScan Manger , which scans into searchable PDFs , and lets you organize documents and easily verify each scanned page . Out of thousands of scanned pages , I had 2 misfeeds . Both were the problem with the page being scanned . Some very lite-weight pages needs the translucent carrier to make it through properly . But that also lets you scan receipts . I double-checked the fronts and backs of the first several hundred pages , but by the end I was fully confident it didn't miss a single page . Even then you can look at the mini-previews in the SnapScan Manager . The most amazing thing about this device is the duplex scanning . It scans both front and back simultaneously . It is blistering fast ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! This was an amazing investment ! ! ! I am close to paperless ! ! ! The only potential con is the lack of Twain driver support ( no direct scanning from apps ) . But since the SnapScan manager saves directly to PDF , Excel , Powerpoint , Word , etc , it is a minor trade-off .
    • 034 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) PROS I purchased this to devour 25 + years of saved paper . It has been even better than the many reviews state . Crumpled , faded paper : no problem . Some scans were easier to read than the originals . Very fast Not prone ot jam even with old papers CONS : I would skip the rack2 - filer software . Seems to have been designed by non-professional developers : heavy on graphics , low on functionality and usability . I don't see why anyone would use this over the standard supplied scan software . And why would people want to save excel files as . pdf's for storage rather than save the . xls file . Seems stupid to me . Saving paper in searchable PDF's has some risk that the file format will become obsolete ( and unreadible some day ) , but it is probably the most likely to survive over the long haul . If I had it to do over again I would purchase the less expensive version without the software bundle . I think I am now an addict . I see scanning as easier than dealing with paper for most things .
    • 102 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I purchased the ScanSnap s1500 based on a recommendation from a friend . It is absolutely the best scanner I've ever used . In less than two days , I've scanned almost 50 pounds of paper documents , which I can now shred . The ScanSnap software is easy to use and intuitive . Although I purchased the Deluxe Bundle with Rack - 2 . I don't think I will need it . The only negative is that you can't really put in all sorts of different widths and always get good results . For receipts , I use the clear plastic carrier . It does a great job . But the reality is that most day to day paper is letter size . If you want to go paperless , I highly recommend this scanner .

  • Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) If you're like me you've been looking everywhere for a photo scanner that has an ADF to finally digitize all of your photos . Like me , you probably don't want to spend the rest of the year scanning with a flatbed but probably also aren't comfortable shipping away your memories in a Fedex box to a scan service . All I want is a digital copy of my pictures for purposes of scrapbooking or loading onto photo sharing sites . Well , I'm happy to say that the ScanSnap might just help you out . On my first night playing with ScanSnap , I scanned in a few pieces of mail and about 75 - 4x6 photos from the 80 ' s and 90 ' s . I was VERY happy with the results and am now in the process of scanning the rest of my photos , my parents and some of my friends , too . On scan quality : * The first couple scans yielded a burn mark across the top of the scanned image . I'm going to work with Fujitsu to troubleshoot that issue . However , I found that I could scan the images face up ( it defaults to face down ) and the burnt edges went away . A little dust streaking here and there needed to be cleaned up , but other than that , no other scanner marks or burned spots . ( I'll be posting images for a sample of the burn marks ) * The scanned image comes out really nicely - very close to the original . Now , these are just snapshots from point and shoot cameras so you have to realize that they can be grainy to begin with . This scanner serves my purpose perfectly which is to preserve my photos and provide a little organization . * Scanned at 600dpi . I did a test for a few photos using both the ScanSnap S1500 and my Canon Lide Scan 30 ( just your run of the mill desktop scanner ) . I'll post some side-by-side comparisons . I'm sure there's tweaking to be done on both sides , but the ScanSnap holds up on clarity and the color is actually a little brighter IMO . ( The scan settings on the flatbed may have washed out the color a little ) For any photos I plan to enlarge , I'll scan on a flatbed at a higher DPI , but since most of the original are 4x6 , I'm not gaining much but file size . * I referenced the following that have great info on batch scanning photos : o [ . . . ] Here the writer suggests that you won't gain much by scanning at higher than 200 dpi ! ! o For a more detailed explanation read here : [ . . . ] , replete with a [ . . . ] o Since the ScanSnap is so quick , I plan on sticking with 600 , but all the same * Another note , the setting to Continue scanning after current scan is finished is quite helpful . The feeder fits about 25 photos easily ( maybe more , but I haven't tried to stuff more in ) . You can use this option to continue to feed the tray when the previous 10 are done and all the images will be scanned in the same batch . On document organization : * I do want to go paperless . I'm terrible at filing and this has given me an opportunity to get rid of all those loose papers . There's plenty out there on why it's good to be paperless ( security , organization , etc ) so I won't bore you with that . This scanner is lightening quick and doesn't make filing a chore . I've gotten rid of my filing cabinet full of documents from the past few years in only a couple of days . I don't want to make light of it's perfection as a document scanner but there are already plenty of testaments to it's speed and ease of use . Hopefully this helps you all out there who are looking at the ScanSnap as a photo scanner . Let me emphasize , it's not professional quality and a more discerning eye might shun the use of a document scanner for photos . Some other users have mentioned why they don't think it's a good photo scanner , but for me this scanner is perfect ! In one night , I whipped through 200 while watching TV !

  • Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) This scanner is outstanding . It's fast , reliable , small , easy to use , affordable . . . What more do you want to know ? I'm in a real estate office and agents use it to scan contracts and disclosures . They love it . Since you can scan to email , it just about eliminates faxing . If some of the pages are upside-down , it corrects it . It scans both sides at once , correcting on the fly . It will skip the blank side of one document , then get both sides of a double sided document . ( You can select options of how it handles all of this . ) You can mix up the sizes of the documents and it figures it out . It has a double feed detector , so it stops if it pulls two or more sheets at once . ( This only happened one time . ) It has OCR , but I haven't needed or tried it yet so I can't comment about that . The bundled software is easy to use and understand . ( Buy the Bundle version , it's not that much more . ) No , you cannot scan books , bound materials or your hand , BUT IT'S NOT MADE FOR THAT . Final words : Go for it . You'll love it .
    • 033 4  I run a construction buisness and drown in paper . Receipts , contracts , invoices , phone bills , bank statements , change orders , ad infinitum . Its a pain to drag out folders full of receipts of 30 different sizes for 20 different jobs and , well , this thing has changed all that . The setup was easy and the included software is amazing . The OCR is pretty good . All my scans become Adobe PDFs that are searchable . I finally can find things I need at a moments notice instead of digging through filing cabinets . It also scans business cards , not as well as receipts and invoices but its pretty good . This thing is worth every penny . Buy it , scan all your paperwork , back it up in the cloud and be set free from the sea of paper .

  • open the top with the easily accessible lever , & the page is completely released & pulls right out ; you're up & running again in seconds . Which leads me to another point : the software . I'm using the Mac version but I think it's safe to assume the Windows version works just as well . If there is a jam during a multipage scan , or you need to add more pages for a larger document , it remembers exactly where it was in the order & picks up from there . Damaged or odd-sized sheets are also no problem when placed inside the included clear plastic carrier sheet . When I was considering the purchase , I was concerned about the lack of TWAIN compatibility , but Fujitsu's description said that it would scan directly to PDFs & a variety of other applications and , at least for my purposes , I haven't missed TWAIN at all . I suppose , depending on the type of work you do , there might be times when you miss being able to activate a scan from within Acrobat or some other application , but for me it hasn't been a problem since the transition from the scanner's software to the target application is so seamless . When a scan is finished , the document opens up automatically in the selected application ( I believe you can override this in the preferences ) . It automatically leaves blank pages out of the scanned document ( this can be overridden also ) , & it's very easy to switch temporarily to a one-sided scan if needed . Both sides of a sheet are scanned simultaneously , so paper only needs to pass through once ; it also automatically reads the page size & whether text is portrait or landscape ( I should point out that I've used only letter - & legal-size pages ) . Though the sheet feeder accommodates widths only up to 8.5 , the software includes a workaround to accommodate pages up to 11 x17 : fold the sheet in half , feed it through using the carrier sheet , & the 2 sides will be stitched together into one page in the resulting scanned document . While it's possible to just unpack , plug it in , & start scanning immediately , if , like me , you're one of those rare manual-reading types , the combined Mac / Windows PDF documentation is extraordinarily thorough & clear ; I've encountered absolutely no mysteries at all in the time I've been using this scanner . Although most procedures are very similar between the two platforms , there are separate sections for each . With a lot of hardware , Mac users are left out in the cold with the documentation , taking our best guess at how to apply the instructions & screenshots in a Windows-only manual ; a lot of attention has been paid to both platforms in this case . When different procedures have steps in common , the steps are repeated in entirety in the description of each procedure , making it possible to look up just one procedure & find a complete set of instructions in one place , without having to hunt back and forth between different sections of the manual . The manual on my installation disk contained duplicate copies of many of the pages ; I found this to be a minor glitch & far preferable to missing pages . I've only had occasion to scan documents into text a couple of times , but in this limited experience , I've found the included character-recognition software to be excellent . Working from a clear , clean original copy , the resulting text needed almost no cleanup . Overall , the ScanSnap 1500 has been one of those rare pieces of hardware that actually outperforms my hopes & expectations . It's a joy to use .
    • 011 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I have never seen a device with such a mass of glowing reviews and had expected to be a bit disappointed . But I'm not ! This scanner is a wonderful tool . As a city dweller I have limited space and my home office has taken over much of it . The ScanSnap is helping me reclaim that living space for myself . Everyone who has seen it in action wants one of their own . The only problem is I may have to buy a second shredder to keep up with all the paper I'm getting rid of .

    • 015 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) This S1500 with Deluxe Bundle was an upgrade from the S500 which I put through a problem free rigorous 4 + year workout . I bought this model because of a Windows 7 , 64 bit laptop upgrade and I thought now was the time to put the S500 out to pasture ( besides Fujitsu did not produce a workable patch for the S500 ) . I'm an international aviation consultant who scans boxes of aircraft documents for analysis and archive so portability , ease of use and reliability are foremost . I've made colleagues using other scanners envious of the speed and quality of both the S1500 and the S500 before which reassures my choice of this product . While the OCR conversion feature provided by the included Adobe software is not flawless it works well enough for searches of 100 plus page reports saving me hours of flipping through pages of tabulated data . The CardMinder software is one of the best added software bundles to come along in a long time . I've scanned hundreds of business cards into files which are easily edited , archived as well as uploaded to Outlook Contacts . For anyone requiring quality , fast , reliable and portable scanning capabilities I would highly recommend the S1500 .
    • 017 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) My girlfriend told me that the level of paper clutter I had was unacceptable , so I began looking for a solution .
    • 019 4  By nature I am a pack rat . I have trouble throwing anything away . I am also in a business where I must maintain records . I bought the Fujitsu ScanSnap four weeks ago . Since that time I have scanned 5 garbage bags worth of materials . All my current client files are scanned and immediately available to me . Now any document that comes in , the first thing I do is scan it to a file and pitch it . It will take me months to scan previous client files-but I am on my way to becoming a digital office . I wish I had purchased the Scansnap years ago . It is not perfect , it sometimes jams or feeds too many pages at once . Overall , I have been very please with this machine . It has already paid for itself . I will not hesitate to buy another .
    • 023 4  Everything about this scanner works exactly as promised . I haven't had a moment of trouble with it since taking it out of the box . This is my first sheet-feeder scanner ; I've previously used only flatbeds . We've been needing more & more to scan multipage text documents into PDFs , & it was just getting too tedious with the flatbed . In addition to the sheet feeder , the duplex scanning also looked really attractive to me . I was concerned that the sheet feeder on a moderately-priced scanner might present some difficulties with paper handling , but except for the occasional misfeed that will happen with any sheet feeder , there've been no problems at all . I've seen huge , industrial-strength scanners that had misfeeds & jams much more frequently . Speaking of jams , on the rare occasions they do happen , they're exceptionally easy to clear : open the top with the easily accessible lever , & the page is completely released & pulls right out ; you're up & running again in seconds . Which leads me to another point : the software . I'm using the Mac version but I think it's safe to assume the Windows version works just as well . • 027 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) Just got this new toy and I'm luvin it ! Scans super fast and does it in duplex . I don't mind that it doesn't have any TWAIN drivers ; I have my flatbed scanner for that . I've been scanning my old bills and stuff . . . what a breeze ! Just a couple of tips : 1 . Be careful when removing the packaging tape ; there is a little latch to push on the right-side ( look at the figure in the manual ) 2 . The serial number for Rack2 - File is on the little folded white Product Information sheet ( almost ripped my hair off looking for that number ) Have fun !

    • 036 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) Our small law office has been wanting to move in the direction of paperless for a while . We wanted a fast , easy way to have incoming documents placed into computer folders along with our own documents related to the same matter . We did some research and this scanner was highly recommended by a very tech-savvy lawyer friend . It has lived up to our high expectations . It is easy to use . Our secretary puts the document in , pushes the button and she can save the resulting PDF file for us or send it to an attorney to decide where it goes . It is fast . It is a bargain . It comes with Adobe Acrobat . It is easy to troubleshoot . The first time we had a jam ( and I don't think we have had a second one in several months of using it ) it took us a minute to find the spot to push to open it up , but there was nothing to it . Push button , machine opens , you take out page and close machine , continue scanning . You can use it to create editable documents . It has OCR ( optical character recognition ) so you can save it in a format your word processing software can use , such as RTF . You can get a better result if you first use its optimization features , which straighten out the lines , removes some stray marks , etc . Depending on the quality and layout of the document you are scanning , you will have some work to do to fix up the editable document . You may have to correct some formatting , perhaps fix a font selection , etc . But with a decent original , you can save time over creating it from scratch . If your purposes and needs are similar to ours , I would recommend it without hesitation .
    • 038 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) Over a year ago , I watched a demonstration of this scanner at a presentation on outfitting a small office at a reasonable cost .
    • 040 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) This scanner is fast ! the scanned pages are clear and compressed to a size that makes it easy to e-mail Attachments . My old scanner created huge pdf files that were 10 times the size of these . So far So good . I am very happy with this low profile scanner .
    • 045 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I found the scanner to be simple to use , very fast and versatile . One thing I am unclear on is if you can manually change how it scans even though some portions are in color , wanting just black and white . We scan large documents that sometimes in color are more than 10 megs , which is about the limit of our internet connection . I would highly recommend it to anybody scanning single pages or large documents that need the versatility to forward the document into any of a number of programs .
    • 047 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) This is the second Fujitsu Scansnap S1500 I have purchased .
    • 049 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) This is a phenomenal scanner / software package .
    • 052 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) For a desktop scanner , it exceeded my expectations . Very fast , effecient , and very much like the rack2filer management software . Some reviews were cocmplaining about no twain driver . Scans easily to pdf . I don't necessarily need . I was having feeding problems and called tech suuport . Quick and friendly diagnosis determined a small piece of tape in the roller ( user error ) . 5 stars !
    • 056 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) As others have stated , this is a great scanner . I was up and running within minutes and scanning away . I would have never thought that something this small would work so great . Getting the full version of Adobe was a real plus considering the cost of this software by itself .
    • 058 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I can't get over how fast this small machine scans papers ( even in color , scanning both sides of the sheet at once ) . I had a years worth of bank statements including sheets with check images on them , and it scanned all of them and created a searchable PDF file in less than 90 seconds . It actually took longer to shred the documents afterward , than to scan them . It handles different sized sheets all mixed together with no problems . It was even able to scan a plastic , credit-card sized drugstore card , since it has a straight-through paper path . The ScanSnap Organizer software works quite well and even gives you the ability to deskew pages in 1 / 10 degree increments if necessary . So far I've scanned about 500 pages and I'm delighted with the scanner .

    • 060 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) Did a lot of research on scanners , and customer feedback kept pointing back to this one .
    • 062 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) This product has far exceeded my expectations . Perhaps the only thing is I wished I had bought a larger unit that would handle credit cards. It is fast , reliable and the included Rack 2 Filer software is well worth using . It also comes with a full version of Adobe which is great value . I nearly bought this scanner without the additional software . I am so glad that I studied what is include in the DeLuxe Bundle . Take your time to make sure you get the DeLuxe Bundle . I don't think you will be disappointed .
    • 064 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I purchased this scanner based on the multiple positive reviews it had . And I fully agree with them ! . In a couple of months I managed to transform all my documents , recipes , letters , photos and everything else into digital-easy-to-search files . The single problem I had was a curious moire pattern when scanning glossy photos , that I solved scanning face up rather than face down . Great product !
    • 068 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) We now have three of these jewels . One of the best investments a small business can make . Get rid of all of that paper on your desk . We scan and e-mail instead of faxing now for a much clearer result and save the send .
    • 070 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I rarely do reviews , however , being in business for over 20 years and having bought many pieces of equipment , this is by far one of the best pieces of equipment I have purchased . Scans effortlessly , catches duplicate items ( which rarely happens ) , and is fast . Good software , and great value . I was able to scan years of papers ( a full 33 gallon trash can ) within about 2 days . Its a little pricy compared to a multifunction , but I have never had a multifunction that you can scan this easily with , nor is this convenient ( it sits right on my desk next to my keyboard which makes scanning easy and convenient ! )

    • 072 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) Although I have just started using it , I can see that it will be a big help in organizing my files .
    • 074 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) This scanner was not only extremely fast and easy to use but it is also small enough that I can keep it on my desk without having to acomodate the use of anything else.It just fit right in . It's truly amazing to use.All I have to do is push a button and the software kind of takes over . Also , the software that it comes with is such a pleasant surprise . Using this scanner has resulted in my business improving its profit margin by almost 10% ( it's a small home businees but so what , this is really great ! ! ) Tom Moski
    • 076 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) It's great . Quite fast . I am a tax guy , and scan in a lot of data for storage . I noted other tax people commenting on how this scanner had worked very well for them . They are correct . Getting a complete copy of Adobe Standard was a huge bonus . It's not a cheap program , and is indispensable in my line of work . I had put off buying it based on cost , and now I have it and an amazing scanner . If you want to pay more than lip service to improving productivity , then buy this scanner .

    • 080 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I ordered this scanner for my personal use and future home office . • 082 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) The scansnap is expensive , but it works well .
    • 084 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) About 5 years ago I decided to ditch paper files , and scan all my documents . I bought an earlier model scanner made by Fujitsu , but over time it tended to jam , or try to scan multiple sheets at a time . I also have struggled with my all-in-one printer , but its scanner is slow and the software was pretty bad . This model scanner hasn't shown any tendency to jam yet , and I have been able to load in fairly large documents without any problem . It is also extremely fast , and comes with a good suite of software . I just started scanning documents as searchable pdfs , which would have been nice to have when I started this process . The scanner works fast even when using this option . My only complaint is that this scanner doesn't have a TWAIN type driver , so it isn't seen by other software such as Microsoft's fax and scan software . However , it's easy to set up , and it comes with Adobe PDF Standard .
    • 086 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) Having only used Multi-Use type scanning devices in the past , I must admit I was skeptical about the potential performance of any scanner in a small home office price range . My current Printer / Fax Machine / Scanner takes forever to scan and process documents to . pdf files . When the ScanSnap arrived , I could not believe how small its box was . I thought , for a moment , that it was the box for the software or USB cable and the Scanner would be coming separately . I was even more surprised when I took it out of the box and set it up . Set up was a breeze and when it was all said and done , the ScanSnap takes up less than a 12 x6.5 footprint on my desk . But the real satisfaction came from my first scans on it . First and foremost , the ScanSnap if FAST ! I ran it through its paces with various document quantities and sizes and it has performed flawlessly . One thing I like that my other scanners have not been able to do is the automatic orientation feature . You can scan multiple documents , regardless of whether they are oriented landscape or portrait , and it will automatically rotate them to their proper view . And organizing the . pdf files to their proper folders is quick and easy . Many other reviews I read prior to purchasing the S1500 stated that its only downfall was that it did not come with twaining software in order to scan from other program platforms . I can understand how this would be a problem for certain professional applications . But for small business or home office usage , I do not see this as a major problem to date . Another bonus with the Deluxe Bundle Package was getting Adobe Acrobat 9 . The way I look at it , when you consider that Amazon's non-upgrade cost of Acrobat 9 , alone , is $270.00 , it means the SnapScan's cost is actually $171.00 . The bottom-line is this : Buy this scanner , and you will not be disappointed .

    • 090 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I have been looking for a solution to the challenge of keeping up with maintaining a dB of business card information .

    • 108 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) Fast , easy to use , duplex , comes with a handy carrier sheet , and ridiculously cheap ( given that it ships with Adobe Acrobat ) , software is very good . I wish all office equipment were that good . One caveat , though : it will jam if you try to copy less pliable objects ( more specifically , I just had problem with my green card , so I had to photocopy it , then scan ) . Note : I also have the S1500M ( the mac version ) , and this still seems to have some issues with snow leopard .

    • 116 4  I purchased the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 from Amazon in Autumn , 2009 . I find it easy-to-use and reliable . I change the scan settings according to what I am scanning . This is easy to do by with a right-click on the system tray icon . I have had a few paper jams , but they are easy to clear . I highly recommend it .

    • 119 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) We do a lot of scanning at my office - mostly black and white full sized architectural drawings on the Savin large format printer / scanner - now we are doing lots of small format color scans and the Savin won't do color so I was using 5 year old technology to scan about 40 pages using the old flatbed scanner and laboriously converting the color images into PDF's . In the middle of this task I said out loud , there has to be a better way to do this ! . A little research on the web and up popped this Fujitsu unit , we ordered it and soon ( as in immediately ) found it to be a great addition to our electronic office . It works as advertised , it is fast and very easy to set up and use .
    • 121 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I recently purchased the ScanSnap S1500 for my law practice .

    • 126 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I've owned 8 scanners over the years . This is far and away the best scanner I have ever owned . I bought my first Fujitsu Scan Snap a few years ago and it has worked extremely well over the years , and is still working . I just bought a second one for home . The only issue I've ever had is failing to remove staples and that will be a problem with any sheet fed device .

It is very compact , very easy to use , very fast , very quiet , produces very good images , has lots of optional features , and is very inexpensive when compared to other scanners on the market . In summary , I think this is the best portable scanner on the market , period .

I needed another unit so I ordered the S1500 deluxe bundle . Amazon did great as usual , good price , fast delivery . While I care more about function that form , I have to say that the S1500 looks much better than Fujitsu's older models . Thankfully the performance is better too . You won't go wrong if you purchase the ScanSnap 1500 for your scanning needs . In fact , I am willing to bet that you will rate this as one of your best equipment buys and wonder why you didn't get it sooner .

    • 134 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) This scanner is awesome . I needed a reliable scanner to convert pt records into paperless and this little scanner has made that possible . I tried a xerox scanner that I though worked well at the time but then it crashed after 3 days ( lucky for me ) and I returned it and found this one . I read all the reviews so I knew it would be a good scanner but I never expected something this awesome . This is truly a great scanner . . . fast , reliable , never jams and when it double feeds , it quickly catches it and alerts you . I have another higher model from fujitsu , the fi - 5120c and this little is even better than that one ! I am now buying two more for the office

    • 136 4  This review is from : Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe Bundle Instant PDF Sheet Fed Scanner ( Electronics ) I have a small business and wanted to become more paperless . • 139 4  This is a great scanner . Easy to use , dependable , fast , and small in size .
    • 141 4  I'm sure this is a fine product , but I would reconsider a purchase . My ScanSnap 5100oex , purchased only 4 years ago to operate under Windows XP , no longer will operate under Windows 7 . Fujitsu has indicated its plans not to upgrade its drive software , and this product is not TWAIN compatible .

  • Pros - 1 .
    • 001 4  My old HP scanner ( actually , it wasn't that old ) died a few months ago and it was time for me to get a new one . I accidently came across the predecessor to the ScanScap S1500 ( the S510 ) last week while I was having my taxes done and was amazed at the speed and compactness of it . My tax person also gave it glowing reviews . As I wasn't aware that Fujitsu manufactured scanners , I thought I'd do a little research which led me to reviews of the S510 here on Amazon . Rather amazingly , I was very surprised to find that the S510 had so many extraordinarily high reviews ( something that I don't believe I come across too often , especially with items such as scanners ) . One of those reviews mentioned that a new model ( this one - the S1500 ) had just been released by Fujitsu . After some more research ( it wasn't yet listed on Amazon ) , I found that this scanner was available and that it had many new features . As it turns out , I was the first kid on my block to acquire one and I'm glad I did ! This machine is incredible ! The speed is absolutely blinding - an incredible 20 pages per minute but , because it scans both sides of a page at the same time , double sided documents scan at 40 PAGES PER MINUTE ! Wow ! As with previous models , this scanner is very small and appears to be well built : it's quite heavy for its small size and fits very nicely on my small computer desk . The scanning quality is equally spectacular - it scans up to 600 dpi in color , grayscale , and black and white and mine came with a good assortment of software ( Adobe Acrobat 9 , Rack2 - Filer , and ABBYY FineReader ) . It scans documents beautifully ! While I've been too busy scanning the billions of pieces of paper that have cluttered my life for years ( this scanner will actually do that quickly and efficiently - something I've always just dreamed would be possible ) , I haven't yet tried to scan photos ; I suspect that this scanner will do a good job but that another type of scanner would probably do better for archival purposes ) . The only problems I've had were with Acrobat ( I already have Acrobat 9 Pro on my computer ) - I found that importing previously scanned documents into Rack2 - filer were always listed in reverse order ( ugh ! ) and Fujitsu tech support replicated the problem . They suggested , however , that I completely uninstall ( not just repair ) Acrobat and reinstall it . That did the job . BTW , I received great tech support from Fujitsu . One interesting thing is that this scanner does not come with TWAIN drivers . Because of this , it is not possible to use it to the same extent as other scanners . Just the same , my reason for getting this scanner was to create . pdf files and this scanner does it like no other . Overall , I'm thrilled with the Fujitsu S1500 - there is no question that it is the best one I've had ( and I've had many ) and is well worth the money ( the S1500 is also the most expensive scanner I've ever purchased ) . I would recommend this to anyone who needs to scan documents .
    • 003 4  I purchased this scanner as a first step in creating an electronic filing system for a home office .
    • 005 4  I have scanned about 8000 sheets so far . I have found these settings helpful with rack2filer : 1 . Auto color detection , Duplex , Best image quality ( 300dpi Color / Grey 600dpi BW ) , Options [ Only Blank page removal checked ( no auto rotation - slows down page viewing ) ] , Continuous scanning . 2 . Same as above except change color mode to gray . And in general I have found : The multifeed detector works great and has detected many double feeds . It handles old thin thermal fax paper without double feeds - pretty amazing , because I would think that if anything would jam or double feed it would be that . The prompt shows the image of the detected multifeed and gives you the option of keeping it or discarding it - this has been helpful when it detects sticky notes on scanned paper that are supposed to be there . It has handled many old papers - barely legible and has done an adequate job picking up light print . Very light or old papers with light print or pencil hand writing are better handled by forcing the color detection to grey . Otherwise Auto everything works well . Blank page detection - does not work with the other side of lined loose leaf paper or graph paper that has nothing written on it . That is to be expected - but a possible design improvement idea for this product . And to get around this , I have set the scanning side to single-sided . Otherwise blank page detection worked well . Scans looked exactly like the originals and in rack2 filer the binders read and looked as well as the paper binders . When it does jam ( which was rarely the scanners fault and mostly from staples , taped paper or over loading ) , the prompt shows the last few pages scanned which makes it easy to recover . Fanning and creating a step-like pattern of your paper stack before loading the paper makes a big difference in preventing paper jams . Some of the advantages : I can take many binders worth on information with me on my notebook without dragging the heavy paper binders in my bag - or one of those wheeled bags that my colleagues use . There is the security of now being able to have multiple copies of my binders in physically different locations [ desktop , notebook , and off site backups ] all without using a copy machine . I need less space for file cabinets [ files ] , bookshelves [ binders ] , and thus less office space . Everything is now in one place . My office is too small to have all my binders and files together , but now they all fit in one folder on my hard drive . Although I will still use paper to write on , I don't foresee a reason to ever need to bind or file papers anymore . Just take notes , scan , and recycle . The actual images for Rack2Filer and CardMinder are in PDF files so if anything happens with Rack2filer - you can always access the data via windows explorer and acrobat . I have used NeatWorks for my accounting ( receipts ) , documents , and business cards for about a year now . The mobile scanner scans at 3 ppm black and white and 2ppm color - single sided only . So for duplex color ScanSnap is ( 20ppm x 2 ) / 2ppm = 20x faster - a huge improvement . The NeatWorks software is also heavy and slow compared to Rack2filer and CardMinder . However , NeatWorks is better than ScanSnap organizer or Rack2filer for receipts . And it can import the PDF scans from the S1500 . So , I recommend using NeatWorks software ( not the NeatWorks / Desk scanner ) for receipts , Rack2Filer for documents and CardMinder for Business cards .
    • 007 4  I purchased this scanner with the Rack2 - Filer software so that I can eventually get rid of all the paper that I end up collecting over a year . I just did an amazing thing with this item : I scanned a 129 page document , having a mixture of legal and letter size paper . I did have to baby-sit the device , adding 20 pages to the back feed tray , while removing scanned pages . I did notice that if can't feed the next page , you may want to slightly lift the feed tray ( it is on a hinge ) . That helps the scanner grab the next page . It placed the scan straight into my open Rack2 - Filer binder . Really nice !
    • 008 4  Until I tried this product I had given up on the paperless office dream . The problem was not so much one of software ; it was mechanics , paper jams , throughput speed . I used paperport software and a HP sheetfeed scanner . I would approach the scanner with a 20 page stapled document , remove the staple ( therefore creating a hangup opportunity ) and the slow scanner would take a few sheets and then jam , as if to tell you I found the paper imperfection , you can't fool me . Then it wuld take several minutes to un-jam , restart the process , try it sheet-by-sheet , etc . So I ended up having no confidence in the process and saving all my paper because I knew I would go back to a paper office . I can't tell you how awed I was and continue to be with everything about the Scansnap . I have given it the most unlikely stack of receipts of every size and thickness imagineable and it has devoured and processed them perfectly to my glee . When it does occasionally jam , it is a simple step to remove the jam and then CONTINUE with the process . It is ten times faster and ten times more reliable , which makes it a hundred times more efficient . If there was an equivalent of the entertainment industry's Oscar , it should be awarded to this product . . . it is everything that science and technology should be ; in a word , transparent . Pay attention , scanner manufacturers . You have a new benchmark !
    • 009 4  Love the scanner and Rack2 - Filer program . Used for a medical office . Works great for organizing anything from records to receipts . Hope next version will allow to incorporate search capability within the text of the document itself in the Rack2 - Filer binder without needing to go through a PDF or Word conversion first . Also , Binder names do not transfer when looking up through My Documents on the hard drive : they are just listed Binder 1 or Binder 15 etc . ( Cabinet names do transfer ) Versatile applications ; highly recommended !
    • 010 4  For years , I've had stacks upon stacks of papers on my desk : things I needed to read , items to follow up , brochures for courses I wanted to attend , etc . It took one afternoon with this little Fujitsu scanner to get it all cleared off . Scanning is blazingly fast . The Rack2 filer software is great , puts everything into digital filing cabinets so they are easily retrieved . I'd also like to praise Fujitsu tech support . Amazingly , on hold time was under one minute both times I called and the couple of minor issues I had were solved quickly and courteously by their staff . That is so rare with high tech products these days that I feel compelled to add it to my review .
    • 016 4  This S1500 with Deluxe Bundle was an upgrade from the S500 which I put through a problem free rigorous 4 + year workout .
    • 020 4  I have gotten my Fujitsu Scansnap for over a month now . First impression was the cute small size of the scanner . I got the deluxe bundle . Together with the Rack2File software , it is a breeze to use . Very visual filing system and very easy to use and organize my now paperless filing system . The fast scanning speed ( scanning both sides with a single pass ) was a definite plus . This is a very sensitive scanner . It very easily detects and stops each time there are dual sheets in the scanner . This is a fun to use scanner . If you expect anything more than a PDF output , then this is not for you . Otherwise , it is truly a great product for a paperless office . The standard Adove Acrobat 9 comes bundled with the Rack2file software . Very useful to have . Verdict : Extremely satisfied with the product .
    • 022 4  I scanned thousands of pages in a single weekend .
    • 024 4  The unit was very easy to set up , worked well right out of the box with a variety of document management software titles ( came with 3 titles of its own plus Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard ) . I found it worked seamlessly with Paperport 11 by Nuance , did not have any driver issues with any version of Windows XP , Vista or 7 . Bottom line - it works as well as others are claiming . I think it is well worth the price . Pros - It handles custom one at a time jobs and large batch jobs equally well , - by large I mean for a typical small business job - say 100 to 1000 piece jobs . Paper handling is great , copy images are very crisp and ( if selected ) the color is great - both sides ! ( I have not tried photo's or other small slick format documents ) . Cons - None so far - less than a month of ownership . BTW this is more suited for Desktop use - if your requirements are more along the line of portability you might want to look at something more like a Visoneer Strobe at about half the price . . but watch out which model you choose . . . If speed , ease of use ( including wide compatability ) high quality scans , and ( reasonably ) high volume scanning are top among your requirements , this is a very safe choice . You could easily spend a lot more money and not be nearly as pleased with the result . I wish everything I bought worked this well .
    • 026 4  If you're like me you've been looking everywhere for a photo scanner that has an ADF to finally digitize all of your photos .
    • 028 4  Just got this new toy and I'm luvin it !
    • 032 4  It always a wonder when you purchase an item online and it really is everything you wanted and more . . . a hard working and versatile scanner and a great value for the office or home . . . The deluxe bundle includes some must have software . . . easy to use and time saving . . . we're well on our way towards a paperless office after years of struggling with file boxes and storage . . . I shopped around and compared prices and this is the best deal going . . .
    • 035 4  PROS I purchased this to devour 25 + years of saved paper .
    • 037 4  Our small law office has been wanting to move in the direction of paperless for a while .
    • 043 4  I am a computer consultant , and have sold several earlier models of the ScanSnap scanner to my clients .
    • 044 4  The scanner hardware is stellar . I have scanned large stacks of dual sided paper without a hitch all at about 40 - 50 sheets per minute . It almost never jams , and then only when there's some very significant flaw in the scanned original . The paper path through the scanner is direct and the design seems nearly flawless . Color originals scan as fast as black and white , and it takes any rectangular size original , and automatically straightens it . The proprietary organizer software is okay . To enter key words for searching , you have to enter them one at a time in a somewhat awkward fashion in a dialog box , hitting enter or a button after each word . Also , perhaps there's a way to search for scanned documents that have been keyed within the software ( rather than through Windows search ) , but I haven't discovered it yet . Fujitsu could make combining separately scanned items into a single file with the proprietary software easier as well . There is also no ability to manually organize scans within a folder ( unlike Windows icons which can be moved around ) , however they can be ordered based on title , date , etc . On the plus side , the Adobe Standard bundled with the product is a significant benefit . Also , the OCR software , Abbyy Fine Reader , is superb . The minor software issues shouldn't deter you from purchasing this device - and one can always hope that the proprietary software will be improved over time . We are now scanning everything . Next quest - make sure it's all backed up !
    • 046 4  I found the scanner to be simple to use , very fast and versatile .
    • 053 4  For a desktop scanner , it exceeded my expectations . 5 stars !
    • 067 4  A couple years ago I purchased 2 of the older model ScanSnap S510 for our order-entry workers .
    • 075 4  This scanner was not only extremely fast and easy to use but it is also small enough that I can keep it on my desk without having to acomodate the use of anything else.It just fit right in . It's truly amazing to use.All I have to do is push a button and the software kind of takes over . Also , the software that it comes with is such a pleasant surprise . Using this scanner has resulted in my business improving its profit margin by almost 10% ( it's a small home businees but so what , this is really great ! ! ) Tom Moski
    • 077 4  It's great .
    • 085 4  About 5 years ago I decided to ditch paper files , and scan all my documents .
    • 099 4  Have been using this scanner for several months now and it is a dream come true .
    • 103 4  I purchased the ScanSnap s1500 based on a recommendation from a friend .
    • 107 4  This scanner is outstanding .
    • 109 4  Fast , easy to use , duplex , comes with a handy carrier sheet , and ridiculously cheap ( given that it ships with Adobe Acrobat ) , software is very good .
