Zojirushi NS-PC10 Electric 5-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer
015 4 I bought Zojirushi ® BBCCX20 bread machine last fall and I was pleased with it as appliance . My rice cooker , National ® 5 cup with a steam cup holder lasted me over 5 years but few weeks back the pan started peeling off it's non-stick inside . This was recommended by other uses and my local Chinese grocery store charges over $100 for 5 - cup rice cooker with similar features . My wife and I cook rice just about every day and we need a rice cooker to make various types of rice such as basmati , Jasmine , red rice , long grain , parboiled etc . Having born in Asian country means rice , rice baby every day ! Beside 1 billion people can't be wrong ! We used the Zojirushi ® for nearly five days . Excellent ! No complaints it's smaller than my previous National ® rice cooker takes less counter space . Keep the unit to make sure the steam can escape as it tends to release steam from water . Cooking rice without a machine can be done however you will not get the same results like having it using a rice cooker . All my Asian friends use rice cookers as it's the easiest way to cook rice .
Word of advice , stay away from cheap rice cookers in regular retail store as wal-mart . They are crap and you are wasting your money by getting something cheap . Most of them have no way to control the steam capture system and a good rice cooker should be able to get rice cooked with out being dried and sticking to the pot and be able to enjoy it at least after 8 - 10 hours having it cooked . We have left the rice in the pot till next day and it's still soft and fluffy . I would only recommend this during winter .
This NS-PC10 keeps rice in perfection after being cooked for hours later . Best way to cook rice is to have it soaked at least 10 - 20 min . but I hardly do it but if you like fluffy rice it's recommended . If you follow simple instructions of keeping the unit clean and making sure the pan doesn't get scratched you should get at least 5 - years of such a rice cooker .

Zojirushi NS-PC10 Electric 5 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer ( Kitchen )
Initial purchase around November of 2003 : In my house , we mainly eat brown rice & I was concerned that the cooker handle this since rice cookers seem to be designed with white rice in mind . I also wanted to be able to start it in the morning and come back after work and find it perfectly cooked and still hot . I'm happy to report that this cooker performs perfectly at both tasks . For my brown rice , I find that I need a little extra water ( ie , fill it a little over the line instead of at the line ) but this is a minor quibble . Other than that , it's very easy to use , the measuring marks for water & the measuring cup for rice make it unexpectadely easy to measure the desired amount of rice . I have also used this with great success with more exotic rices incdluding wild rice , black rice and red rice from Butan ( or somewhere around there , I got it at Whole Foods )
Update 10 / 24 / 04 : After almost a year of use , I still love this rice cooker and recently used it to cook barley very successfully ( but you have to measure the water & barley yourself , don't use the rice measurements that are pre-labeled on the cooker as the water to grain ratio is different for barley than rice ) .
Also , I've abused it by pouring rice into the heating compartment of the unit itself and it still works ! I simply forgot to put the rice pot in the unit and poured in the rice without it . By the time I realized my error some had gotten into the innards , where it still lives some months later . Other than the fact that I can hear it , the cooker continues to work flawlessly
Update 8 / 22 / 2006 . Still working flawlessly , even though there is still rice in the innards due to my carelessness .
005 4 We eat rice often . We've had a Faberware cooker for years that finaly died . Wouldn't get another as it cooked the rice unevenly with ' burned spots ' . The Zojirushi costs lots more , but is well worth it . This unit cooks all of the rice perfectly every time . We like the size , it delivers 2 to 5 cups of cooked rice , and it delivers the same high quality rice for any batch size .
I wish we could leave it pluged in , but there is no on / off switch . The overall quality seams very good , what you would expect from a [ price ] machine .
If you eat rice frequently , and enjoy high quality food , this is an excellent machine and is well worth the cash .
006 4 I found this machine works great - makes perfect rice every time ! It takes about 25 minutes to cook 3 cups of rice , and the cleanup is a snap thanks to the non-stick pan . The machine automatically controls the cooking time , so a timer is not necessary . In fact , since 3 cups of rice cooks in 25 minutes using this machine , I can't imagine ever needing a timer or stay warm feature . . .
So is there any downside to the Zojirushi NS-PC10 ? Not really . . . The only ( minor ) issue is that there is no power switch - the unit is activated by plugging it into the wall ( and deactivated by unplugging ) . The cord is wound around a receptacle recessed into the bottom of the unit ( it does not automatically retract ) .
I really wanted one of the fancy Neuro Fuzzy Rice cookers by Zojirushi - but they are just too expensive to justify . . . The computerized models also require a battery to function ( this model does not ) .
I reccomend this product as a useful , easy-to-use and relatively inexpensive rice cooker .
010 4 I purchased this rice cooker to cook brown rice . Everytime I have made brown rice , the water boils up thru the vent on the top lid and down the back of the machine . Which then leaves a puddle of thick rice water on the counter and a mess to clean up . Because some of the water boils out , the rice is hard and not soft like it should be .
After contacting Zojirushi and asking for their help , they said that you can only make l cup of brown rice in this rice maker . I hardly think a rice maker is worth the money spent if you can only cook l cup of rice at a time . I was really disappointed with this rice maker .
012 4 This is the first only rice cooker I've owned - but this little Zojirushi is GREAT ! Clean-up is effortless . It's the perfect size for my small apartment ( with very limited counter-space ) . And it makes PERFECT brown rice each every time ! It also has a rice warmer feature that keeps the rice toasty moist without any burning .
HIGHLY recommended !
014 4 The Zojirushi is easy to use and makes wonderful tender and sticky sushi rice . It is also extremely easy to clean - - Less than 30 seconds - - if you have ever scrubbed out a normal pot after making sushi rice , you will appreciate what a time saving this is .
We have already used it 10 times in the last month and we have had perfect rice almost every time . ( The only time the rice was slightly browned was when we had left the rice on Keep Warm for 5 hours after starting it . Normally , we eat the rice as soon as it is done . )
The machine iself is attractive and well made and although higher priced than some of the items for sale at local grocery and chain stores seems more than worth the price .
016 4 Browse through the reviews , and you will see i am not the only person with this problem . I failed to look at the bad reviews before purchasing this unit . I am now returning it to Amazon .
This unit is not made for cooking brown rice . Brown rice has a very hard outer shell , and as recommended by the support staff at Zojirushi , you need to soak the rice at least 1 hour before hand . Although overnight soaking is recommended .
Even after soaking the rice one night before hand , the rice cooker over boils , as the talc from the rice cannot be contained in the unit . You are left with a massive puddle under the rice cooker , clean up is a huge chore .
Another negative , the instruction manual doesn't tell you how many cups of water and rice to use . . .
A couple of pluses are that the rice pan is very easy to clean , and there was support staff available , although they didn't help much .
DO NOT BUY this rice cooker if you cook brown rice , or other hard grain rices .
018 4 I bought the Zojirushi NS-PC10 Electric 5 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer . IF you cook rice more than once a week , you need this tool . I can make equally good rice on the stove ( it's only a matter of measuring and timing ) , but the Zojirushi makes it easy . Although they do not recommend it , I've made yellow rice , paella , and even steel cut oatmeal in my cooker . I am very pleased with this unit and the quality is excellent . It replaces my old Panasonic rice cooker .
019 4 So cliche . . . but I am forced to learn this lesson OVER & OVER . I thought to myself $100 for a rice cooker , and bought a $20 one in Chinatown . It gave me nothing but trouble . . . Soggy rice , sometimes burned at the bottom , et cetera . . .
With a friend's suggestion , I made the switch . . . I decided to invest in this Zojirushi rice cooker and it has been coming out right everytime .
You won't be disappointed !

The Tiger JNP - 1000 will cook your rice more quickly , and the rice will last longer ( it will not dry out as quickly as it does in the Zojirushi ) . The Tiger JNP - 1000 is also easier to clean . It will cost a little more , but will be well worth it .

027 4 This is my first rice maker . I gave up trying to cook rice in a pot on the stove . I tried jasmati with the Zojirushi two times , skipping the rinsing beforehand and adding just the amount of water normally suggested . Rice came out harder than I like . So I decided to stop cutting corners . You need to rinse ( soak ) the rice about half hour , and THEN put it in the Zojirushi . And be sure to add more than the water suggested . Ex . One half cup of rice , plus one cup of water AFTER the soaking . . . and then add another quarter cup of water . Plug it in , and when the yellow warm-steamer light comes on , let it steam a half hour . Then fluff it as directed , close and let stay warm for as long as you wish . You get delicious sticky rice , so good you wish you had made MORE .

A perfect batch of rice everytime ! A no fail way to prepare rice . The machine takes up a bit of counter space and as another reviewer mentioned there is no on / off button but it is otherwise great .

I purchased this unit based on recommendations from the Amazon site . It is GREAT . I all ready have a Zojirushi Bread Maker , and felt comfortable with the brand name - it has not disappointed me . After cooking rice for 38 + years , I've finally learned the RIGHT WAY to cook it .

We have cooked all quantities of rice from the 1 cup measure to the 5 cup measure and found that they both cooked up nice and fluffy . The rice cooking vessel is , indeed , non stick , just like the review said . A nice appliance .
044 4 My parents had an awesome rice cooker that lasted well over 15 years , at least . Our Zojirushi was great at first , but has become a great disappointment . After one year of cooking rice 2 - 5 times a week , it began burning the rice at the bottom of the pan , oozing liquid out of the top , and undercooking the rice . We had to start adding an extra 1 / 2 cup ( rice cup size ) of water , which of course , made the oozing liquid worse . We never cook more than 2 1 / 2 cups of rice !
Also , the warming function was a joke - dried out the rice . My parents ' had a warmer that worked , so I wasn't aiming for the unrealistic . . . and no , they didn't have a fuzzy logic cooker .
Last week , the button that flips the lid open just snapped off . We take good care of our appliances , electronics , etc . so apparently , our rice cooker was only meant to have a short life .
I still hold Zojirushi in high regard . . . just not this particular model .

I decided to get a rice cooker because I was tired of rice boiling over on the stove and getting burnt or toasted on the bottom of the pot . Maybe I should have gotten the 10 cup size , but I thought a 5 cup size would be plenty . Well guess what . Whenever I try to make 5 ( or even 4 ) cups of rice with this cooker , it urps sticky starchy water on the counter . Not only do I have to remember to soak the rice for an hour ahead of cooking it ( which I never bothered to do when I used a pot on the stove because the directions on the bag of rice don't call for it ) , I can't make more than 3 cups of rice at once with this cooker or I get a mess . If I don't soak the rice , even 2 cups will get sticky stuff on the counter . It bubbles up out that vent on the top of the cooker and runs down the side and onto the counter . Also , I've never been able to use this cooker successfully with anything other than straight 20 or 25 minute white rice . If I want to use 45 minute rice or brown rice or any other rice that takes longer cooking , I always get burnt or toasted rice on the bottom and extra chewy rice . Adding extra water only ensures that the cooker will bubble out the top and all over the counter . It's still chewy and burnt on the bottom . They should have called this a 3 - cup white-rice-only cooker because that's all I'll trust it with . Next time I think about shopping for a rice cooker I'm going to look for one with more rice options .

I like my Zojirushi rick cooker but I'm amazed at the lack of information on how to use it , especially how to cook basic rice and the exotic kinds of rice . Thank goodness rice is fairly inexpensive so I can experiment . Zojirushi , get a real manual !

055 4 I've had this since January ' 07 and love it ! I frequently make Thai curries and stir-fry , so I make a lot of rice - mainly Jasmine rice . Since I have a glass top stove , rice was difficult to make perfectly every time . With my Zojirushi , there is no guessing ; you just put your rice and water into the cooker and start it . My rice has come out perfectly each time ! I've successfully used the machine for dirty rice mixes , white rice , brown rice , and Jasmine rice .

All the reviews are correct on this model . Easy to use - easy to clean - makes perfect rice every time . Great price too !
060 4 After doing a lot of research , I chose to buy this Zojirushi rice cooker , which was rated well by Cooks Illustrated . It does not disappoint ! I've cooked several kinds of rice in it , and it comes out perfect every time . Such a great convenience - - I wish I would have bought it years ago !

Great value for money . So easy to clean and great rice every single time .
I have made basmati , jasmine and brown rice and it just turned out perfect every time .
064 4 My 14 - yr . old son wanted a rice cooker with rice warmer for Christmas really bad after seeing one in his Japanese friend's house . After researching , comparing , and visiting Asian stores I ordered this Zojirushi from Amazon on the 23rd with free shipping and was surprised to get it on the 27th . Wow !
A few years back I had purchased another automatic rice cooker that was supposed to turn off when the rice was done . I used it one time . The rice was not even al dente , it was raw when the unit turned off . I added water and pushed the on button 2 - 3 more times . Worst product in the world . I think it was a $40 Hamilton Beach . So I was wary of electric , automatic rice cookers .
This Zojirushi is a wonderful rice cooker . It is so easy to operate , even the children have made the rice . After 12 hours it is still pretty soft . We have left it on for up to 24 hours . It gets a little crispy by then ( kids like it ) but you could make it in the morning and when you get home just make a meat dish - - chicken , pork , beef , lamb . Of course it only takes about 30 min . to cook 3 cups ( enough for five people ) so if you make it first and push the button you can move on to other dishes .
We LOVE it and use it just about every other day . Use the supplied measuring cup , rinse to get rid of the starch until the water runs clear , put in the steamer , add water to the measuring line , push the button . It automatically goes to warm once it's done . Perfect rice every time . Cleaning is a breeze too .
My son says since it was his Christmas present he is taking it with him when he goes off to college . Great for a dorm since it's electric . Maybe I should get another one for us . . . One thing - - kids need to know when they serve themselves that they need to be careful when they open the lid . It's a steamer after all .

Bought this as a replacement for a traditional Hitachi rice cooker . It is a mess to use as water bubbles out all over this thing . It is a mess to clean up as it has a number of small parts which are easily misplaced , and difficult to clean when they are covered with baked rice . I've already broken the lid-catch twice , replacing it once for $3 , pretty good price , but no more . I am looking for another brand .
068 4 We LOVE our Zojirushi rice cooker ! So many American knock-offs don't even come close to the quality and speed with which the NX-PC10 cooks rice . I love that it not only cooks it , but keeps it warm for hours ! We've made wild rice , jasmine rice , black Thai rice , and the everyday minute variety and it's perfect every time !

this is a basic but good rice cooker . the 5 - cup capacity is perfect , i usually cook 3 cups of rice , for my two boys and me . it usually lasts around three or four days ; the rice is perfect for two days and starts to dry out after the third day . btw , when i feel energetic i saran wrap single-servings of the three-day or older rice . a quick nuke will bring back the fresh tasting rice .
my mom has a more expensive sanyo to cook a mixture of brown and white rice . the sanyo cooks the mixture along with regular white rice well . i'm extremely happy with my zojirushi because it cooks my white rice just as well and is priced about a third of the sanyo .
this cooker has a two-piece moisture controller and a dew collector . i've not read the directions but assume the moisture controller needs washing ; it's a bit of a hassle for me . and the collector needs to be emptied ; not a hassle . because of the pricing and quality of rice the above comments are pretty much a non-factor .

Little things about this rice cooker are just dumb .
1 ) There is no easy way to pick it up ( my old one , more than 10 years old , had a handle on top ) .
2 ) When you do pick it up to put it away , if you touch the apparatus that holds the spoon , the apparatus and spoon fall off on the floor .
3 ) There is no retractable cord ( my 10 - year old rice cooker had one ) , so you have to hold the cooker awkwardly with one hand and wrap the cord round and round on the underside . When you complete the wraparound , the plug doesn't fit in the space meant for it - - you wrapped the cord a little too tight or not tight enough . So you have to start over , eventually give up , and either store the cooker teetering on its plug or double the cord back on itself right before the plug .
4 ) The lid opens when you press a kind of lever . The lever is not quite large enough to press comfortably , and when you press it , it moves suddenly , your finger slips off , and its ridges hurt .
I've cooked one cup of brown rice in it so far . No problems there , although it did spit some , leaving me wondering how much it will spit if I cook more than one cup at a time .
So now I have to pay for shipping to send it back .

I purchased this rice cooker for our son , who is away at college , living in an apartment . He said the rice cooker works really well . I also purchased a rice cooker cookbook and he used a recipe from it last week . He made spanish rice and said it turned out really good although next time he will use a little more liquid . Regular rice , on the other hand , turns out perfect . Some people in other reviews had said there were puddles of water that accumulated around the rice cooker on the countertop . Our son said as long as you use the water catcher that comes with the cooker , there will be no puddles . Everyone needs to make sure to read the directions first . He also said clean up is a breeze .

Excellent product . We could not afford the much better version of this brand but did not want to settle for a lesser brand . So we chose the cheaper model in hopes the quality and reputation of the company was not sacrificed . After over a month of using it we can say our gamble was on the money . The rice comes out excellent . Much better than our $40 dollar no name brand . Would recommend it this to anyone .

We've had our Zo NS-PC10 for 4 or 5 years and love it ! We use it on average 2x / week and it never fails to produce perfectly cooked rice . We've cooked about every kind of rice on the planet and it does well with all of them . I agree with another person that some of the tougher rices need a bit more water . Our favorites are basmatti white , sushi , basmati brown and jasmine - but there are so many wonderful rices to choose from . My husband scratched the pan ( by not using the spatula that comes with it ) and I called the company for a replacement - it costs so much for the replacementpan that I decided to buy a new cooker - same model - love it . My husband can't cook hotdogs , but he can fix rice using this cooker ! smile .

Before buying this product I had a zojirushi for 20 yrs . I had no qualms with it but when I was redoing my kitchen the cord got lost in the fray and , being that it was 20 yrs old , I couldn't find a replacement so I decided to invest in a new one . I knew I wanted to stick with the brand but I was FLOORED when I saw how much some of them were going for ! I'm sure the fancy tweeks for different types of rice are wonderful but for my needs this model works just fine .
in 20 yrs zojirushi has updated it's product so that it's easier to use and looks sleeker on your counter but the basic concept is the same . The new rice cooking bowl is much nicer than mine though . . . . a breeze to clean up . So far I have made jasmine and brown rice perfectly and since those are the only two types of rice I routinely make I'm set . Saving upwards of a hundred bucks for this model vs the computer models is WELL worth it to me !

093 4 My mother gave me a large Zojirushi for college . Seven years later my rice cooker broke and I decided to get a smaller one . The rice comes out well , although not as well as when I cook the rice in a regular pot and am able to change the temperature .
The one thing I don't like is that the construction feels much weaker then the larger models . I haven't cleaned the rice cooker itself , only the pot inside , and will update my review once I give it a thorough cleaning .

I had a problem with delivery where the first unit arrived with a bashed in product box , and the second arrived without even being double boxed . However , I'm happy with the product , and it makes good rice , and the keep warm function works well too .
061 4 I bought this rice cooker a couple of years ago because I was having trouble cooking rice on our stove ; even on the lowest setting , the water always bubbled out from under the lid . I wanted a small rice cooker , because I usually cook only 1 or 2 cups . I bought this model after reading reviews on Amazon , and I've been meaning to return the favor by writing my own review - - but I forgot until I decided to look at rice cookers for my college daughter , who is about to move into her first apartment . I highly recommend this rice cooker ! ! ! I've never used another model , so I have no basis of comparison , but I am completely in love with this one . I always cook brown rice , and it cooks perfectly every time . At first I measured the water separately ( 2 cups of water per cup of rice ) because I wasn't sure if I could trust the measurement markings on the inside of the inner compartment , but I have gradually realized that the markings are trustworthy and take into account the volume of the rice that I've already added to the compartment . The warmer works perfectly , too ; the rice is always hot and never dried out ( though I have never kept it in the warmer for very long ) . A few times I've had to add a little extra water after the rice was done but still seemed a bit crunchy ( perhaps because of careless measuring on my part ) , and that process also worked flawlessly . Although the rice doesn't stick to the bottom ( I always add a some olive oil and salt at the beginning ) , it does get a bit browner at the bottom . However , that isn't a problem at all once you mix up the rice in a bowl . I love being able to start the rice and then make the rest of the dinner without having to babysit the rice . I've even started the rice and then gone out to walk the dog - - and come home to the heavenly smell of cooking rice ( except for that time I plugged it in but forgot to turn it on ) . I used to hesitate to make a rice dish because of the 45 minutes needed to cook the rice - - but now I can multitask , and it doesn't seem overwhelming at all . The only feature that I don't like is that you have to unplug the rice cooker to turn it off - - but that's not a big deal . You also have to remember to clean out the little water drain cup on the side , or else it gets pretty nasty after a while .

007 4 The included Operating Instructions are a joke and practically useless .
It does cook absolutely perfect rice ,
BUT cleaning is a pain :
1 ) The inner pan has a rolled rim which catches and retains water when washing it . Don't put the pan back in the cooker unless you are sure that there is no trapped water left in the rim for dripping into the main body and onto the cooking plate .
2 ) One needs to also clean the dew collector and the steam vent apart from wiping down the inner main body rim from the liquid that does not reach the dew collector . Instructions tell to not remove the reverse stopper valve when cleaning the vent assembly : I did not intend to remove this stopper valve - it just fell out under a gentle stream of warm water from my faucet . . . Don't loose it - down the drain !
3 ) The stationary lid needs wiping + cleaning ASAP , otherwise one collects additional grime [ See 4 ) ] .
4 ) Be aware that the area between the steam vent + the slots in the lid does trap really nasty stuff you can't see nor reach easily when cleaning . Pay attention to these hard to reach nooks and crannies . . . .
5 ) It's easy to miss the moment when the unit switches to the keep warm feature , - the click is barely audible , unless you stand next to it . As the recommended 15 minutes of steaming are essential for a good result , it is disappointing that you need to keep watching the unit visually for light changes . Am I asking for too much if I'd prefer a louder click or even a ring ?
Saving grace : It does produce the most delicious and perfect rice .
My next rice cooker will again be a simple version with a glass lid + less extra parts to clean .
008 4 I bought this cooker to make sushi . It works great even with just a single cup of rice ( I don't think that I'll ever make a large batch ) .
Clean up is as simple as stated , and it's small and attractive on counter ( not so important , but it's right next to the coffee machine and I see it every day ) .
The only complaint that I have is that it's ' always on ' so you have to unplug it when not in use .
009 4 I grew up on rice cooked with the old fashioned rice cookers . This new generation of rice cookers is really amazing . The rice is cooked perfectly and stays hot for hours afterwards . I like the simplistic design of this model , no need to program clocks and timers , so we can unplug it and store it away . It cooks white rice from 1 - 5 cups perfectly . There is a little area on the bottom that gets a little brown but not burnt or crusty . It cleans up easily with minimal scrubbing . I highly recommend this model .
013 4 As long as you soak the rice thoroughly prior to cooking , the rice cooker does a great job . I'm the only rice eater in the family so I often only make 1 cup ; if I don't soak the rice at least a few minutes , it often yellows / dries out at the bottom . Overall , it is a great product when instructions are followed exactly .
020 4 I had been using the cuisinart 4cup rice cooker before we purchased this one and it is night and day !
the cuisinart cooker didnt have a snap-close lid so while the rice would cook it would boil over and make a mess .
this one keeps the rice fresh for days . ( we like to make a big batch )
this one is just big enough and it works great ! I recomend this rice cooker to anyone thinking of buying
021 4 I love this little guy . I use him every week and he never lets me down . Rice is always good , no matter what kind I make - brown , white , basmati , jasmine , sticky , whatever . There are a few things I'd like to see changed . For example , as everyone else has mentioned , you have to unplug it when not in use , as there's no on / off switch . Also , when the cooking process is over and it switches into steam mode , the only way you can tell it's happening is by a slight click and the red light goes off and the orange light goes on . So , if you're not in the room or there's any kind of noise in the kitchen , you might miss that it's made the transition . This is only important because you need to let it steam for 15 minutes after the cooking process , then stir / fluff it . I'd like to see some kind of timer / buzzer that goes off after 15 minutes in steamer mode . All that said , I still love it . The pros far outweigh the cons .
024 4 My family loves rice , but it takes up a spot on the stove and it never seems to come out the same way twice . I was lucky enough to find this at a Thrift Store for $20 , and it is great . Both my wife and I just pour in the rice and water turn it on and get the rest of dinner ready . We find it hard to believe we did not buy one sooner . We have cooked Long grain , short grain , and jasmine with great results . I noticed we left it on with a little layer of rice in it while the cooker was on warm and it did brown a little bit , but I found it kind of tasty ! I put a little toasted sesame oil on it and had a nice little snack .
025 4 I just couldn't get this rice cooker to cook good rice for me . We eat mostly brown rice , so that is all I tried .
Every time I cooked rice , there was a large layer of hard , burnt rice on the bottom of the pan . And since I only cook about 1 or 1.5 cups of rice at a time , this makes for an unacceptably large percentage of burnt rice out of the total cooked .
Also , with brown rice , when using the normal ratio of 2 c water to 1 c rice , the rice was still uncooked . To get it cooked , I had to use 3 c water and cook it for a long time . And there was still that burnt layer !
I am returning mine and will keep looking .
026 4 Wow - what a difference over those cheap aluminum cookers . This thing cooks delicious , fluffy rice every time . And all it takes to clean it is a dry paper towel . I couldn't justify the cost of those fuzzy logic cookers - and neither can you . Buy this one instead .
028 4 After about a month of use I have only good things to say about this rice cooker . The capacity is great and rice is ready in about 20 minutes . Perfect every time . Does a great job of keeping rice both warm and moist for long periods . It's well designed too with a catch area for condensation so that it doesn't run back into the rice .
031 4 Nonstick coating is great . Small plastic parts to be removed for cleaning , easy to loose and maybe break . Cooker water / rice proportions need tweaking . . . . . . . . . . easily learned from usage .
A technical marvel for making and holding rice reliably .
032 4 I have had this cooker for over a year now . I got it on the recommendation of a colleague who praised the brand heavily , but did not know the model no . of her own cooker . So I am not sure if this is what she had praised . I liked this one much better than my two other cheapo rice cookers I had purchased from Walmart , Macy's etc . The covered lid is a good idea for preserving heat and the rice does cook well if you get the quantity of water just right . I was very happy with it a few days after I had got it . But a year later I am at 4 - stars due to a few minor flaws :
1 . Its very easy to scratch the rice vessel .
2 . Nowadays rice seems to stick to the bottom sometimes - where I find a thin layer of over-cooked ( brownish tinged ) rice .
3 . The water escape vents are not great - - the little drain cup is too small and often overflows and creates a mess . Water also drains out towards the back of the cooker . I have to usually place a paper towel on the top ( With a hole for the vent ) or the back of the cooker to collect this water .
4 . The top part above the rice vessel is not easy to clean . I once took it apart to clean it well and it was a bit of a project to put it back together .
So while this is an adequate rice cooker - I would look for something even better next time .
Another thing : the minimum quantity of rice it will make well is for 2 servings , not one . So if you live alone and like fresh rice each time , go for something smaller .
036 4 I finaly caved and bought a rice cooker after years of cooking on the stove top . I am so very impressed ! The rice turns out perfect every time . And with free shipping this is a great deal !
I used to have a cheap-o cooker that sputtered rice water all over the counter , and so far this little gem has not . It's also a breeze to clean .
041 4 I am sooo thrilled with this rice cooker ! I originally owned a Sanyo with a tempered glass lid , and it made such a mess with the spatters and sputters all over my countertop . This unit is fabulous ! No mess anywhere , the sealed lid keeps all of the water inside and the steam escapes through a vent . No more babysitting with paper towels and washcloths .
The first time I used it I made brown rice and it came out perfect . I highly recommend this unit !
045 4 I love this rice cooker ! It's made my life so much easier . It makes great rice but it turns out better when the rice has been presoaked . If you don't put the right amount of water , it tends to leave a film of inedible rice on the bottom but once you get the hang of it , it's pretty consistent . It's also pretty simple to clean up too .
Though I wish it had the timer capability that many of the new ones do out on the market nowadays , all in all , it was a smart purchace !
046 4 This is a nice little rice machine . Although , honestly , if I knew they had the computerized ones available , I would have bought one of those instead .
This machine is very easy to operate .
My only complaint is that the bottom 1 / 2 inch or so of rice is yellowed - most every time - as if it is being overcooked . So I always make a little more than I need , and leave the yellow stuff alone . Of course , it could be the kind of rice I'm using - I haven't tried other brands yet .
I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these . But if you're a gadget-lover like me , you may want to get one of the computerized models .
047 4 Utter chaos the 1st time , too much steam , placed under cabinets & caused to warp slightly . Now use in open space , makes perfect rice & very easy to clean . Has several things to wash on it , but now allow extra time when preparing rice and am extremely pleased with cooker
048 4 I had this rice cooker for 5 months and this is the best rice cooker I ever had . For this type of rice cooker , its price is very reasonable , can't find a cheaper one anywhere else . Definitely worth the money . It is fast , easy to clean and the rice that came out just perfect .
050 4 I decided to get a rice cooker because I was tired of rice boiling over on the stove and getting burnt or toasted on the bottom of the pot .
053 4 I chose this particular model due to a review in Cooks Illustrated magazine . It was one of the highest rated within its price range . Fortunately , they did a fantastic review and my expectations were perfectly set for machine . All in all , it's fantastic . I've only just recently received it and have made one batch of plain white rice . To that end , it was perfect with no learning curve . Just put in 2 cups ( their cups , not measuring cups ) of rice and then fill it up to 2 with water . It doesn't get any easier . First batch turned out great .
The only con that I have has nothing to do with the machine itself and was also a concern in the Cooks Illustrated review that I referenced . The manual is terrible . My paragraph above gives as much , if not more , instruction on cooking rice than the manual . There's no mention of different types of rice or anything . I'm sure that I'll just need to experiment to get the same quality end result with something like wild rice .
Other than that , it's well made and works great !
054 4 I received this as a wedding gift 5 years ago and didn't touch it for the first year . The Japanese-translated instructions made it seem as if any small misstep would render the rice inedible .
Now it is perhaps my favorite and most useful kitchen appliance . Contrary to my initial fears , it seems that you could haphazardly pour any amount of rice and water in there and it would turn out fine - nay , perfect ! It is almost magical - you push the button , it pops when it's ready , and there is hot , steamy perfect rice waiting for you ! You will not be sorry you bought this one .
056 4 Got it for my rice loving husband . . . . best gift ever . Cooks rice just right , Japanese style and then keeps it warn for you to snack later .
063 4 Great value for money . So easy to clean and great rice every single time .
I have made basmati , jasmine and brown rice and it just turned out perfect every time .
066 4 Bought this as a replacement for a traditional Hitachi rice cooker .
067 4 I bought this as a gift for my mom , and it is a quality rice cooker . Not too fancy , durable and easy to use . The only downside is how the pot fits into the maker ; there is a little ridge where rice cooker steam get collect and gunk up if you are not careful .
069 4 I bought this product because the reviews on it were great and so is the product . I recommend this product to all my friends and family .
070 4 I bought this rice cooker this month based on its 5 - star rating .
1 ) I understood that it had no on / off switch and you must plug and unplug to start cooking and turn off the power .
2 ) It also took up more counter space because it was low and fat .
3 ) It had no accessory as a steamer . But worst of all ,
4 ) It dropped power in the middle of cooking after only two weeks . It stayed dead even after cooling off or plug / unplug .
Now I need to take it to San Francisco to get it repaired .
073 4 this is a basic but good rice cooker . the 5 - cup capacity is perfect , i usually cook 3 cups of rice , for my two boys and me . it usually lasts around three or four days ; the rice is perfect for two days and starts to dry out after the third day . btw , when i feel energetic i saran wrap single-servings of the three-day or older rice . a quick nuke will bring back the fresh tasting rice .
my mom has a more expensive sanyo to cook a mixture of brown and white rice . the sanyo cooks the mixture along with regular white rice well . i'm extremely happy with my zojirushi because it cooks my white rice just as well and is priced about a third of the sanyo .
this cooker has a two-piece moisture controller and a dew collector . i've not read the directions but assume the moisture controller needs washing ; it's a bit of a hassle for me . and the collector needs to be emptied ; not a hassle . because of the pricing and quality of rice the above comments are pretty much a non-factor .
075 4 Little things about this rice cooker are just dumb .
077 4 I purchased this rice cooker for our son , who is away at college , living in an apartment .
080 4 If you need small amounts of white rice done right . . . this is your cooker . Instructions are minimal and so best be an adventurer to figure out what it means and to do other things like brown rice which the instructions prohibit . Thought it would be a bit more flexible and still experimenting with something other than white rice . But white rice will be done right everytime ! You do have to watch when it switches between cook and warm to catch it and stir the rice otherwise a brown crust on rice . Learned this from reading other's reviews . Doesn't get any simpler for making white rice though ! Still debating whether the price paid was a little high considering what you can do with it but ultimately choose this one because it was not rated with some other problems that cheaper ones supposedly had .
087 4 Before buying this product I had a zojirushi for 20 yrs .
088 4 This cooker is everything I could have wanted . I bought this for my boyfriend's birthday two weeks ago . ( He's been wanting one for ages ) We've used it twice , and each time the rice comes out perfectly . It's very simple : dump in rice and water , close lid , and wait . Not difficult to clean at all , but I made sure to clean it right after we finished eating because I didn't want the starch to get hard .
My boyfriend knows his rice . . . he's Asian after all ! Haha . He said it came out perfectly . You won't be dissapointed in buying it . Great price , great product .
Five stars from me !
095 4 I expected better from this rice cooker and warmer . Even on the first day , rice was somewhat burned . I wanted to return the item , but I used it once and I thought I would not be able to exchange or return it . That's why I keep it . Whenever I use it , I feel not good .
097 4 The rice cooker is great . . . keeps the rice looking good for 2 days before it turns bad . I got this rice cooker over a year now , until one day I try to push open the rice cooker and the push button pop-out and broke a little part that holds the bottons together . Rice is good . Part is cheap . I would buy this item for no more then $50 . Now I'll have to upgrade to a better cooker that has a stong and sturdy push open button .
099 4 I had a problem with delivery where the first unit arrived with a bashed in product box , and the second arrived without even being double boxed . However , I'm happy with the product , and it makes good rice , and the keep warm function works well too .
092 4 I grew up in an Asian household eating rice every day , and was disappointed in how this rice cooker dried out the rice so quickly after 1 day , when my parent's lasted so much longer . I've been thinking about getting a new one . Tonight the lid latch broke off , which is the last straw . Received this as a wedding gift , and have regretted the decision to ever add this to our registry .
033 4 It's so nice to make rice and not have to watch the pot in case it boils over ! I just put in the water , add the rice and walk away . The convenience is worth it . We've tried Basmati and brown rice and they're equally good .
040 4 I decided to get this rice cooker after reading the reviews here . I've had it for about 3 months now , and it's never made anything less than perfect rice . It's slightly bothersome that there's no way to turn it off without unplugging it , but that's so insignificant I almost didn't mention it .
071 4 This rice cooker works well for me . I like to use different types of rice and have had good success with all . Very easy to use and clean up .
085 4 It's good for the price . We don't need the very high end rice cookers , because the material will peal off after years of use . This is the second one we bought .
096 4 In less than 3 months the tab on the cooker lid broke rendering the cooker useless . Very Poor quality in my opinion .
Zojirushi NS-PC10 Electric 5 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer ( Kitchen )
For years I've wished that I could cook perfect rice . This little Zo has made it possible for me to prepare perfect Sushi-style rice ( sumptuously sticky and moist ) as well as the perfect cafeteria-style rice ( no two grains stick together , and the rice is firm , almost al dente ) . And the absolute best feature is the impossibly non-stick surface of the cooking pot . Every grain of rice falls out of the pot ! Cleaning my previous rice cooker was so repulsive and difficult that I soon stopped using it . You can use a damp paper towel and clear water to clean this Zo ! !
The recipe is simple - - measure rice , rinse , add water , soak , press the button , let it steam for 15 minutes after the cook cycle has finished , then stir to release the trapped excess steam . PERFECT ! The Zojirushi will keep your rice warm for hours , but who can wait that long to eat it ? Not me !
If you want to avoid the very tiny bit of browned rice on the bottom , the secret seems to be rinsing the rice for a ridiculous amount of time , at least 5 full minutes .
I heartily recommend this item .

011 4 this is by far the best purchase i have made in awhile ! the rice ( i have tried all types ) comes out perfectly 99% of the time . the other 1% is when i failed to properly rinse the rice and this results in a yellowish , dry spot of rice on the bottom , but no big deal . the interior bowl which holds the rice is easy to clean requiring only seconds . each morning i set up the rice cooker and by evening i have half of dinner already made . this is an excellent time saver and just too easy .
030 4 A perfect batch of rice everytime ! A no fail way to prepare rice . The machine takes up a bit of counter space and as another reviewer mentioned there is no on / off button but it is otherwise great .
038 4 I purchased this unit for a rice-eating roommate after having to scrape the results of a bad attempt from the bottom of a pan . She had a decent system , but not decent enough to get a truly consistent result . I thought this would be a use it until the charm wore off appliance ( to be placed next to the ice cream maker ) .
It felt wonderful to be wrong . We enjoy perfect rice at least twice a week . . . more if we have some leftovers and need a starch . She's made just about every type of rice ( including wild rices and pilafs ) .
Clean-up of the rice container is a no-stick snap . . . but there are nooks and crannies around the rim / seal of the top .
My roommate just interjected when asked for her comment , What more could you want - PERFECT RICE .
Enjoy !
039 4 Some of our friends laughed at us when we bought this rice cooker a year ago but we still believe that this is the best item of kitchen equipment we use . We make rice 3 - 4 times a week and it comes out perfect everytime , regardless of type or amount we cook . The pot cleans up quickly and easily - - this is the only rice cooker to buy and the price is great , too .
057 4 Burns the rice in the bottom of pot when kept in warm mode . Too hot , even melted the edge of plastic rice spoon .
059 4 All the reviews are correct on this model . Easy to use - easy to clean - makes perfect rice every time . Great price too !
079 4 Excellent product .
091 4 first off , the instruction manual is pretty worthless : in order to make delicious , fluffy rice rinse , soak the rice for 15 minutes and keep closed for 15 minutes after cook cycle . i used this method with some nishiki brand rice and it came out very good except that the entire bottom layer of rice became one dry flaky crust , getting more brown towards the center . i cooked basmati in a similar fashion and all the grains turned out very dry and the bottom was flaky just like the nishiki . by the way , the results are from cooking several 1 - 2 cup batches of nishiki and 2 batches of 1 cup of basmati .
i think this rice cooker design needs some work . . . better instructions at the very least and a thicker pot / distributed heat source would make probably make a difference with the browning issue .
094 4 i have had it for 3 years or so - - - rice is never right ( no matter who cooks it ) . . . . tried to adjust the measurements - - still not good enough . . . . too sticky , messed up and turns into a film on the bottom . . . expected better results . .
