Zojirushi Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless Steel

  • 30PM for example.Very EASY to clean . We eat rice 2 - 3 times a week and for years it's been , Is it boiling yet ? , Turn it down to low heat , did it over boil ? Those days are over . It is easily worth double what I paid for it . Only wish I had bought it 20 years ago !
    • 142 4  This product is GREAT ! ! We use it at least twice every day and it makes perfect rice every single time . Whole family loves it !

  • 016 4  I avoided cooking rice because I get impatient babysitting the stove and it was not predictable . We have a friend who cooked rice for us in her Zojirushi rice cooker . She had purchased it early in their marriage 35 years ago ! It still made perfect rice with no effort . We purchased the NS-LACO5 . Perfect , effortless rice every time ! Needs no attention . Put the rice in , put the water in , walk away . The rice cooks and the music plays to let you know it is done . Then goes to warmer and keeps the rice perfect until the rest of the meal is ready . Clean up is a breeze . I wish everything was this predictable and easy . We are very pleased .
    • 032 4  Any fuzzy logic rice cooker from Zojirushi is awesome . The most important thing in buying a rice cooker is not to buy one that looks like a crock pot , as they have uneven heat and are very hard to get the water level correct on , resulting in soggy or crunchy or burned rice .
    • 123 4  Reviews are true , this cooker makes fine rice . The design and construction is first rate . I think the tactile feedback of the controls , carrying handle , cooking pot and paddle are a pleasure . The retractable cord and folding handle make storage easy . The makers even give you the choice of attaching the paddle holder to the left or right side of the cooker . Nice job Zojirushi .
    • 128 4  I gave my adult children these Zojirushi rice cookers for Christmas gifts last year . Yesterday - - while doing some holiday shopping for this year - - both of them commented about how much they love the cookers . They are very impressed with how good the rice always turns out and how easy it is to clean the interior bowl .

  • 017 4  We looked a long time and researched rice cookers extensively . This one was our top pick and we are thrilled several months after purchasing it . It is just the right size for our family of 4 and cooks the rice perfectly . We like the stainless look and it has a small enough footprint on the countertop that it is unobtrusive in the kitchen . Kids love the warm brown rice and we love having it ready right when we finish stirfry or chili or other dishes . Warming feature is nice and keeps the rice moist and warm . Overall , two thumbs up . We love it .
    • 054 4  this has to be one of the coolest things i have purchased . i love love love it . once i got mine i realized that with a bag of rice and a sack of red beans ill never starve.i liked it so much i bought one for a friend in college and one each for my two kids . this is one of the easiest ways to make a healthy hardy meal . i live alone , i set it go to work and when i come home the house is full of the aroma of lovely brown rice , yummmmmmmmm ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
    • 108 4  This is the best appliance I have ever had the pleasure to use . It is easy to make very nice rice , with different menu settings for white rice , brown rice , sushi rice , and porridge . I didn't know what porridge was , and had only heard of it as something bears eat , but apparently it is soupy rice . I just keep this thing on the white rice setting , rinse off the rice , fill the bowl to the 2 line , and press cook . SPOILER ALERT ! When you press the cook button , this thing will play a few bars of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star , which totally blew my mind . When the rice is done cooking , it plays another melody , which I cannot identify . This is my first musical appliance , and it is good fun for the kids . Other great features : The cord is retractable , and the cooker has a nice handle so that you can carry your perfectly cooked rice to your friend's house , or wherever you go , and it looks a bit like you are carrying a boom-box radio . This rice cooker is a little pricey for me , but I decided that I wanted to cook rice almost every single day , so why mess around with a POS cheap model ? This cooks it right , keeps it warm and fresh for hours , and has delightful extra features . I am going to buy a new one that cooks 5 - cups because my family is growing .

  • 024 4  I got what I thought was one of the better rice cookers for my boyfriend for Christmas . I went thru the trouble of having it shipped in for the holidays as we were going skiing . We got it home and tried it out . We were so excited . Each time we used it , it made a huge mess all over the counter top no matter how much we made or how little we made . Finally we gave up and tried this one . It has been a dream . We have made all different kinds of rice , grits , oatmeal , and no fuss , no mess . It even has a fast cook setting that we use most of the time - we don't plan for dinner quite well enough to do it the long way . The fast cook method is just as great . We have been creative and tried some of our own recipes and made things up . No mess , no fuss ! The instruction book that comes with the cooker is not great but be creative . It has been great and so easy . We both laugh when the little tunes play as you begin and end cooking cycles . It was worth a bit extra to spend to get a great product . Thanks Amazon for your great policies as well . I highly recommend this cooker and we are tough on things . It has been great !
    • 044 4  I really don't have much to add the all the other high rated reviews , except to say that I have used a rice cooker for over 20 years and this rice cooker is a lot better than any rice cooker that I have used before . It's just rice . I have no clue how this rice cooker can cook rice so much better than other cookers I have owned , but it does .
    • 045 4  I used the comparable Sony rice cooker for a long time , and was generally satisfied with it . But this one is far superior . It cooks perfectly every time and cleanup is much easier than with the Sony . I recommend it wholeheartedly .
    • 058 4  I got this primarily to make hot oatmeal using the timer feature so it is ready first thing in the A.M . . It works great for that . Oh , and it also makes rice ! I have a large rice cooker already , but found I really needed one suited to smaller batches most of the time and this is perfect .
    • 060 4  I am Asian cooks rice almost everyday and this is a perfect rice cooker for me . I had a different brand which was nothing wrong but I was not happy about the quality od cooking so , I switched this one , I love it . I recommend this one for who cooks rice as their main meal , using short grain rice .
    • 090 4  This is a great product for a non-cook . I tried my hand at making brown rice with a pot and it came out pretty bad . But all you have to do with this product is follow the instructions and you have perfect brown rice .
    • 097 4  This little gem is amazing . It is easy to clean , use and the end product is perfect every time . Be sure to read the instructions well before the first use for a great result . I love the timer feature . It is compact . The best purchase I have made for my kitchen this year .
    • 098 4  This rice cooker is exactly what I need for my steel cut oats . I set the timer and my breakfast is ready when I am . It also does amazing brown rice . I love this little cooker so much I bought my daughter one . I think everyone should have one !
    • 099 4  We are big rice eaters and I needed a smaller sized one to make rice for my baby boy . The rice cooks great . I love the smaller footprint and the retractable electric cord . I make Basmati rice in it . I make 1 cup rice with 2 cups of water . I also made steel cut oatmeal and it was great . I will be researching more recipies that I can cook in my rice cooker .
    • 101 4  I purchased this mostly to make breakfast easier . I like having quinoa for breakfast , but I'm not up to cooking in the morning . I read that it could be made in a rice cooker and thought it would be nice to have it ready for me when I woke in the morning . I tried it for the first time this morning and it was perfect ! I can't wait to try brown rice in it .
    • 102 4  Don't waste your money on another rice cooker . This thing is amazing . I get restaurant quality rice using a bag of $5 white rice from Walmart . No kidding . The only complaint . . . . . it takes longer to cook than my previous cookers . I guess you can't rush perfection .
    • 126 4  This thing is incredible . Don't waste your time with other rice cookers that will just make ok rice then you won't use anymore . It's amazing how evenly this thing cooks the rice . There's no bottom layer of burnt crispy rice crust like you get with cheap rice cookers . I wasn't a big rice eater till I found this gem .
    • 129 4  This product is all I expected and more . I was concerned it would be too small for a two person family , but that is not the case . It makes perfect rice and is easy to clean up afterwards . You MUST buy the Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook to get the full benefit of this beautifully engineered cooker .
    • 132 4  Got this for a friend with many food issues and she absolutely loves it . The timer function is great for breakfast or when she's out all day . It's easy to travel with due to the compact size - - handle and retractable plug are great too . It's quite idiot-proof - - can handle variations to the directions - - never dries the rice out , and is great at keeping the rice warm . She's never been so excited about a product ! !
    • 140 4  This is a great machine . Easy to use ; easy to clean , small and light-weight , etc . I almost bought a different machine that I saw at a local store , because the brand was familiar and the machine was attactive . However , after doing a little research , I chose this rice cooker , and I'm very glad that I took the time to shop a bit before spending my money .
    • 141 4  I purchased this rice cooker as a gift for my son . Makes perfect rice every time with absolutely no boil over . Clean up is quick and easy . When my son moves out I will need to get one for myself .
    • 154 4  This is fantastic rice cooker . Size the perfect for small family , nice design . More important , it helps making daily meal more balanced after I have this rice cooker . Thanks Amazon .
    • 165 4  This appliance does only two things - - it cooks rice , and it cooks Irish oatmeal . It has a timer that lets you prepare the oatmeal the night before so that it is ready when you get up in the morning , and it will keep it warm if you are late . Same for the rice . But I don't think it is worth trying to do anything else with it , like cooking an entire meal in one pot . Get a crock pot for that . One of my favorite things about it is that it plays a little tune when the rice or oatmeal is ready . Quite cheery .
    • 182 4  When this arrived I realised that I'd ordered the wrong one ! I meant to buy the larger model . I couldn't be bothered returning it and have found it to be great . It has more than enough capacity for three rice servings and we are fairly happy with it . It does take far longer than boiling a pot of rice but the rice comes out perfectly and does make a difference to the meal .
    • 189 4  I first bought a cheap-O cooker from Target and it was junk . Burned the first batch of rice . Dropped it in the recycle bin and started my research and even thought the price was far more than what I had paid for the cheap-O from Target , I absolutely do not regret it . Perfect brown rice ever time . . . Well worth the price .
    • 192 4  I bought this based on reviews I read on Amazon and was very happy with the results , the rice cooker works great .

  • 035 4  Ok , this is an awful lot to pay for making rice . But be prepared to start throwing oatmeal at weddings after using this machine because rice will seem too good to just be throwing at people . My house smells like nutty popcorn each time I make a batch of brown rice . The rice has a nice sticky quality that makes using chop sticks a viable option since you can actually get mouthfuls instead of clamping one grain at a time . If you reduce the amount of water to a little less than recommended the rice will be tender but not mealy . The timer is incredible and allows you to wake up to or come home to clean and delicious rice if that is your carbo of choice . And it should be !
    • 022 4  I have used this for two months and it has been absolutely perfect . I use it daily to have steel cut oats ready when I awaken , and also , oddly , to cook rice . My kids seem to enjoy the songs that it plays when it starts and completes its tasks . The bowl has a finish that makes it easy to clean . High quality is evident throughout the product .
    • 071 4  My husband and I love it . We only tried cooking jasmin rice so far , will try others when have the time . The rice cooker is beautiful and rice is cooked perfectly . A great item to invest in .
    • 080 4  We're pretty happy with the rice cooker - we wanted to eat more brown rice , but the time it takes to cook means we never can do it on a work night ( which for us is 6 days a week ) . Being able to throw it together on the way out the door and have it be ready when we come back in is fully worth the $ $ . Haven't tried anything but brown rice so far , but we're thrilled . My rating would go up if the instruction manual was a little better written - it was a bit vague and made it seem harder than it is . However , once you figure out how to do it , it's really simple , especially because it saves your 2 favorite times for rice to be finished .
    • 144 4  This is the best rice cooker I have ever used . I use it for regular white rice , brown rice , and sushi rice . All the rice has come out perfect . My only critism is that the rice / water measurement directions are a little confusing . Just use the directions on your rice package for the rice-water ratio and it'll be fine . This rice cooker seemed pricey to me at first but after I have been using it for a while I think it was worth every penny . I am very satisfied .

  • 063 4  For years , I had one of those inexpensive rice cookers that always burned half the rice . I kept looking at this rice cooker , but didn't take the plunge for a few years - - the cost made me hesitate . It's been worth every penny , and you shouldn't hesitate if you're looking to make smaller amounts . I've made all kinds of rice , as well as steel cut oats , and the quality is always superb . It's easy to use , program , and clean . Highly recommend !
    • 069 4  This product came as described . It works well . Cooked rice couldn't be better . We love it . The 3 - cup capacity works well with us - - - family of four . It's simply the right size for us . The item looks nice , clean , and sturdy . It always attracts attention with our visitors and would ask me where I bought it . We're very happy and satisfied with this product . Highly recommended .
    • 193 4  This rice cooker in incredible . All claims are valid . Imagine making sushi rice while you're out walking , or gardening . Just push a button . . . it's a simple as that . No more bubbling over ; no more mess to clean up . Even my husband , who never cooks , was intrigued . It IS expensive , but life is short and I have better things to do than watch rice simmer .

  • 070 4  Absolutly the best rice cooker on the market . Easy to use . Manual is a bit flakey . You don't need the manual . Just select the time you want your rice or oatmeal and presto it is ready . Don

    • 084 4  Great rice cooker . Even cooking and perfectly done every time [ brown and white rice ] . When programming however there is some confusion as to whether or not the time entered is the time it starts cooking RATHER than the time the rice with be finished . KEY POINT ! Small footprint and convenient size for 2 - 3 adults .
      • 076 4  I've owned many rice cookers over the years . This one , by far , makes the best rice , CONSISTENTLY . Easy to use , easy to clean . And i love that you can cook as little as one cup at a time ! The ONLY drawback here is the darn thing doesnt display how much time is left . Sure it will turn off when it's done , so no worries there . But once i turn it on , i'm curious after a while : do we have 20 more minutes ? half hour ? 10 minutes ? It starts clicking down the minutes left to cook about 10 before hand - - no sooner . Why not just click down from the beginning ? ?

    • 085 4  All I could say for the first week after purchasing this rice cooker was , why did I wait so long ? It is everything you could want in a rice cooker , and produces some of the best rice I have tasted . It is amazingly easy to use . You put rice in , fill water according to the guides that are imprinted on the inner bowl , place the lid down , push the menu button to whichever type of rice you are making , and push the cooking button . I don't think it could be any easier than that . After the rice has cooked for a certain time , a timer shows up to inform you have how long is left , and afterwards , a tune / beep will sound and it automatically shifts to a Keep Warm function . The rice can be kept in that function for up to 12 hours . The nonstick bowl prevents rice from sticking and I have never found a stuck or burnt piece of rice , unlike many other rice cookers I have seen . The footprint is fairly small which makes it ideal for an apartment or small family . Even though the cups used are smaller than most american cup-measures , the 3 - cup maximum capacity seems like enough after cooking to feed 3 - 4 people as a side dish or 2 people as a full dish . The instructions tell you to only use a maximum of 2 cups of white rice , and for porridge , the maximum is only 1 cup , but again , it comes out to be plenty to feed a small family . You can make white rice , brown rice , sushi , porridge , or even mix in other ingredients . The fuzzy logic algorithm adjusts the temperature constantly , allowing the rice to come out perfect each time . It may seem like a lot to spend on a rice cooker , but honestly , this was some of the best money I have spent in a long time . There are no regrets here .
      • 046 4  I am a neophyte rice maker . The NS-LAC05 is essentially foolproof . The instruction manual requires careful reading and some interpretation but is quite usable . I have had no problems at all and am very happy with the cooker . One word of caution . The term porridge does NOT refer to porridge as used in English but is a Japanese rice porridge . The porridge setting is usable but the timing is off for oatmeal .
      • 146 4  Excellent quality . Does a great job at cooking rice . Not sure how fuzzy logic works - but it tastes good !
      • 158 4  This is one of the best and most useful home appliances I have ever bought . We bought this to replace a much cheaper rice cooker ( around $40 ) and we are SO glad we bought this . The fuzzy logic technology really does make a difference . We have perfect rice , every time , and have now been eagerly trying all different types of rice and loving the new flavor experiences . My favorite feature is the timer . You can set the cooker to be done at a particular time . I use this to have a nice hot breakfast ready for me at 6 am , when I am too bleary-eyed to cook anything from scratch . I also use it to have the rice perfectly done for dinner time , at just the right time . No worries at all about when will it be done ? This machine figures it all out for you . I have a kitchen full of applicances but this is the one that is getting used the most , often twice a day now . There are usually 2 of us for dinner and this makes the right amount for 2 for dinner , plus enough left over to prepare a good breakfast . LOVE IT !
      • 177 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I will keep this short and sweet since so many people have posted great reviews . This is one awesome rice cooker ! If you love rice , you will love this rice cooker . Yes its pricey however any good fuzzy logic rice cooker will be . You cant screw up rice on this machine . Wait Ill take that back . I think it was here I read one bad review with someone probably trying to cook minute rice in the cooker . Anyway follow the instructions and you will get great rice everytime . Keeps rice fresh and warm for a long time . One thing buyers should think about with this rice cooker , if you like to steam things in a rice cooker this is not the one for you . You cant steam anything is a fuzzy logic .

    • 149 4  Take it from someone who was a bachelor and made rice everyday using the 2 cups of water and one cup of rice method - boil water , add rice , turn down to simmer for 20 minutes and perfect white rice . . . so , along comes a family and a quest to change things up a bit and boom - I will never go back to cooking rice the old way ( unless I am camping ) . This rice cooker is fabulous . Just a few notes to pass along - if you have never washed your rice ( I never did ) , start doing so - I use jasmine rice and simply add water to the measured scoops in the bowl , rinse lightly , pour almost all of the water out , then fill to just slightly over the line ( I like a little more puffy rice ) and just press the button . Every time , every time , I open the lid once the finished melody plays , I am a happy camper ! I read reviews and was happy with my final decision . . . been going strong over a year now on this model . I would buy this again in a heartbeat .
      • 026 4  I did a lot of research before buying this and have had it for several months now . This rice cooker is great . Perfect rice every time ; white , brown , wild , rice of any kind . Easy to use , durable , easy to clean , compact , looks good , a good user experience ( the designers were thinking when they made this ) . Things to be aware of : It takes a while to cook the rice - over an hour for brown rice . Also , porridge in Japan is a soup like substance so if you want the non-watery North American kind you will need to adjust the porridge to water ratio . If I remember correctly it's 1 : 2.5 ratio of porridge to water .
      • 056 4  While this unit is a little pricey , it was worth every cent . Living in a small apartment and cooking just for myself makes this particular size perfect . It's very sleek looking , and clean up is very easy ( just wash out the bowl , and it's even easier if you remember to do it as soon as it cools off ) . Most importantly , it's very easy to operate and I have had no burned rice . The only setting I use is for sushi rice ( short grain rice ) , but it does it very well ( as can be expected , as it is a Japanese model ! ) and it's always fluffy and perfect . My only warning is that it might take a bit longer than one is used to : it takes almost 45 minutes to make the rice on the normal setting , and the quick cook , while nice to have , leaves something to be desired ( it's the post-cooking time that makes the rice fluffy ) . However , I just put the rice and water in , go do something for 45 minutes , then dinner is served ! 5 stars !
      • 057 4  This rice cooker is perfect for ( relatively ) small batches . It has done a good job on long-grain , jasmine and basmati rices , with the automatic features performing flawlessly . It is very easy to clean , and the non stick removable container performs as promised . It is a welcome replacement for my 14 - year old Tiger cooker .
      • 078 4  I believe it is the best machine out there to cook perfect rice . No burning or hard rice on the bottom . Perfect for a couple or a single person , anymore you would need a 5 cup model . The warmer is awesome ! It still warms the rice like you just cooked it , without it going smelly or hard . Another great feature is the programming , it cooks when I want it to cook automatically ! The bad qualities of this product is minor . I wish they would make a more attractive style . Even though it is stainless steel accent , there is still that plastic white around it . Also the porridge setting works , I was mistaken for it to make congee . So it does makes mushy rice porridge , but it does not make watery congee rice . I wish it comes with a steamer rack , but I guess this version is too small . Another minor thing is the cooking programming time , it goes by military time , not by 24hr .
      • 088 4  I actually haven't used this as a rice cooker yet , but for rolled oats in the morning , it can't be beat . I love the small size , about the size of a toaster , very easy to clean , just the right size for up to 4 people with reasonable appetites . Nice details like a retractable cord and a clock that works even when unplugged ( watch battery-powered ) .
      • 095 4  My first batch of brown rice from this unit was a revelation . I've used other rice cookers and I simply didn't know what I was missing . Even my parrots love the stuff , they scarf down every grain I put in their foodbowls . I've tried other types of rice with results I consider superior to restaurant rice , at least for the restaurants I've eaten in . If you want to change your life through superior nutrition this is a big help . Fits just about anywhere and is very easy to use . No cons so far . ( About a month . )
      • 104 4  I was a bit hesitant to spend over $100 for a rice cooker but now that I've had it for almost a year , I must say it is one of the best purchases I have made for my kitchen and something I use at least twice a week if not more . I love the timer on it , very convenient to set it and forget it and come home and have the rice ready to go . I cook mostly jasmine rice so coming home to that wonderful smell is a nice benefit . I also use it frequently to make steel cut oats ( I just use the brown rice setting ) and have never had a problem . I love the non stick bowl , the retractable cord , the carrying handle ( I store it away in my cabinet when not in use ) , the handy paddle and I also love the little diddy it plays .
      • 106 4  I had to graduate from a masters degree program to get it ( a gift ) , but finally , I have a rice cooker ! I did a lot of research before purchasing , and I would say the thing people complain most about rice cookers is clean-up , so buy one with a non-stick bowl ( like this one ) . Another , albeit esthetic complaint is how ugly most inexpensive rice cookers are ( actually , almost all rice cookers are ugly now that I think about it ) . Not my baby though , this rice cooker is easy on the eyes , makes terrific , fool-proof rice , and nearly cleans itself . I also like that the electric cord is retractable and the unit itself is pretty compact . FYI , this model cooks up to 6 cups ( cooked ) rice , which is great if you are single or have a small family , but probably not adequate for larger families .
      • 174 4  I never really thought of myself as someone who made rice a lot , but I always hated making it on the stove . I looked into a few rice cookers on amazon and saw they were all pretty poorly reviewed , except this one . This is the best appliance I have ever purchased , bar none . It makes it so easy to get restaurant-quality rice in about 30 - 45 minutes ( depending on if you use the quick setting or not ) , and rice becomes a variable that you don't need to worry about while preparing your dinner . It's just there and ready for you when you need it . I am not a great cook , but this thing is idiot proof . It was worth spending the money on it , I use it all the time and don't regret the purchase price one bit . Buy one if you even remotely love having rice with meals , you won't regret it .

    • 167 4  This little rice cooker works great . It makes some of the best rice I've ever had . I use it to make small amounts of sushi rice daily , as well regular rice and porridge . 1 cup is about the right amount to make 2 sushi rolls , and is more than enough for 1 person . 2 cups is a good amount to feed 3 people . If you need to feed more than 3 people , you can make a 3rd cup and feed 4 or 5 people . The measuring cup has markings for 1 / 4 , 1 / 2 , and 3 / 4 of a cup . This product has an excellent design which prevents water from dripping on top of the rice like some rice makers allow . You can really see how well thought out it's design is . It is built from very high quality parts , nothing about it looks cheap , it screams quality . The high quality non-stick bowl is especially nice , as it makes cleanup a breeze , the rice all comes out easily , and wipes clean with almost no effort . The bowl has markings on the side for all the different types of rice you make . This is important because sushi rice , for example , needs less rice than normal rice , because you add vinegar at the end . It also has matching markings on opposing sides of the bowl so you can see if the bowl is level , so you never add too much or too little water on an unlevel counter top . The markings are really visible and are raised up so they wont wear off over time. The rice paddle it comes with is also great . It is non-stick plastic , covered with tiny bumps which help grab the rice , and then let it go . This is a really great design for a rice paddle . Now , for the people who complain it takes too long to make rice . If you start with cold water , it does take a long time to make rice . But if you start with warm water , the rice will be ready much much faster . The same thing applies to boiling water on the stove by the way . It also has a quick cook mode , to make it work more like an automatic rice cooker , and less like the high quality rice cooker it is . If you cook rice everyday , and you make different kinds of rice like sushi rice , this rice maker is a great choice . I was a little hesitant to spend over a hundred dollars on a rice maker , but I'm so glad that I did and I wouldn't want to live without this amazing thing . Several people have commented on how cute it is sitting on my counter top . Personally , I'm not too hung up on the looks of my kitchen appliances , but it is a good looking appliance .
      • 077 4  For many years , I considered a rice maker as I enjoy rice a few times a week but felt I did fine cooking it on the stovetop . It was easy . But eventually I decided to try one . This one had good ratings so I went for it . It's an amazing little appliance . Set it to go and relax . Your rice may take a little more time to cook than on the stove but it doesn't need your constant attention . It will be perfectly cooked , warm and waiting for you . I like this cooker so much I just bought a second one for my daughter to take back to school with her . I highly recommend this one .
      • 093 4  If you need a rice cooker and are a one or two person family , look no further . You can't beat this rice cooker for ease of use , looks and most importantly , perfect , fail-free rice . It's well worth the money .
      • 112 4  I love love love this rice cooker . It's the perfect size for one person because it creates a small amount of rice with no leftovers . I've made white rice , brown rice , and steel cut oats in this little machine . Makes perfect , fluffy rice each and every time . I love that it keeps it warm for hours , and cleaning the pot is a breeze because it's non-stick . Best rice cooker for a single person !
      • 124 4  I received this machine 10 days ago and I'm completely satisfied with it . Every batch of rice is perfect , and it's a snap to clean . The timer is a terrific feature . One note though : some reviewers have warned that the white rice capacity is only 2 cups . This isn't the case . The same scale on the bowl is used for both white rice and mixed rice . The scale is misleadingly labeled . The manual states that the white rice capacity is 3 cups , while the mixed rice capacity is 2 cups . Don't let this confusion hold you back .
      • 136 4  You want great rice , ease of operation , a better ricemaker doesn't exist . I've tried 5 or 6 diff . rices and they all come out to perfection . The warmer keeps it hot and steamy . I'm in rice rapture .
      • 181 4  The cooker works well and looks great , however , one thing I don't like is that once the rice is done cooking , you can't add more water and press the cook button again if the rice came out too hard . It doesn't let you do it . Once it's done cooking , it's done . After testing it out several times though with sushi rice , I found that if the rice is too hard , you can add a little more water and just let it sit in the warm mode . The temperature will be high enough to evaporate the extra water and cook the rice a little more . With this rice cooker , you have to get the hang of it as far as how much water to put in to get the rice just right . You might have to add a little more over the line depending on the type of rice or how old the rice is .

    • Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I have had mine several months now and I am very pleased with it ! We are a small family and I am able to cook the amounts I need with this cooker . I was worried that I was spending too much for it but now I am glad I spent the extra money for this brand / model . I wanted to cook oatmeal in it and it does the steelcut oats very well . The only problem we have is that my husband wants plain oats and I keep adding things like fresh blueberries and vanilla when I start it . We do agree on the rice . Our favorite at the moment is Bhutan red rice . Cook on brown rice setting and enjoy ! Be sure to check your setting EVERY TIME and don't lose your measure cup . I measured the measure cup but I forgot to write it down in my receipe book . I need to do that before I lose the cup . HIGHLY recommended . PS . . . Has anyone cooked beans with rice in it yet ? ?
      • 151 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I just LOVE this rice maker ! I've had it for almost two months now and cook rice in it almost every night . It is AMAZING ! I have cooked all kinds of rice in in it , Basmati , Jasmine , Forbidden black , Red Bhutanese . . . the rice is always perfect . I love the little pot for cooking the rice , and so far have had no problems with it , it still looks like new . It does take a little while for the rice to cook , but I find that if I put it on first thing , but the time the rest of the dinner is ready , the rice is just finishing up also !

    • Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) We tried the cheaper model from the same brand and returned it . This one works perfectly , especially for cooking very small quantities of rice . Couldn't be happier , and yes , it does employ fuzzy logic when cooking the rice . Don't buy a cooker without that feature . And everything from this brand is usually very high quality . This one is no exception . If you are a serious cook , this is the entry level . Don't go any cheaper . Note that it only cooks 3 cups . Perfect for those who like rice but may not want so much of it . For two people , we've found that 1 cup is enough to satisfy our craving for rice dishes for two , without pumping up our waistlines . It's very easy to use . They give you a measuring cup and you measure the rice with the lines on the cup ( we use 1 / 4 cup per person , but most will probably want 1 / 2 cup per person ) , then dump it into the bowl that is included in the thing . Next , add water ( some people will stir the rice with their fingers ) and pour the water back out to rinse the rice . Some of the hulls from the rice will float off when you pour the water out . Rinse twice , then fill the water back up to the mark corresponding to the amount of rice you have in there . Yes , you add water to the mark with the rice inside . Put the bowl in the unit and close the lid . Next you push menu to select the type of rice you have ( white , brown , sushi , etc . , use porridge for steel cut oatmeal ) and push start . If you want to use the timer , instead of pushing start , push timer , use the arrows to set the time ( it starts with the last time you used ) and then push start . The only knock I have is that it takes a * long * time to cook 1 cup of rice . 40 minutes just seems like it's twice as long as it should take . However , because I don't know whether that is longer than other fuzzy logic rice cookers , I didn't take a star away from the product . Just be forewarned , it takes a LOT longer than cooking rice on a stove . Is it underpowered ? I don't know . The flip side is that it only takes 450 watts to run the thing , and so it is less likely to pop the circuit breaker if you have something else going . A little off topic , but if you are looking at a rice cooker , you may want to learn about rice . Here is what we have learned so far . There are three basic grain sizes of rice : long grain , medium grain and short grain , also known as sweet rice or sushi rice . Each kind has its place . Long grain rice is best for fried rice and pilafs - where the rice shouldn't stick together because you want every grain to be coated with a flavoring . By itself , long grain rice is not that great tasting . We Americans are used to long grain rice , but wait until you branch out into other types . Medium grain rice is for serving just plain rice , like as a side dish with Chinese dishes . It is easily the best tasting rice by itself . It clumps together to a degree , making it easier to eat with chopsticks . If you want the most delicious rice you can find , and you won't be flavoring it , buy medium grain . It's so much better than that long grain minute rice we grew up with . Finally , sushi rice is very short grain and clumps like mad . It is generally limited to sushi , where you would be willing to sacrifice flavor to get better clumping , and sweet dishes , because of its high starch content . This rice cooker has a special setting for short grain rice . But I find short grain rice to be too artificial tasting , and so even for sweet dishes , I use medium grain rice . Next , there are two basic types of rice : brown rice , which is how all rice starts , or white rice , which is brown rice with essentially all of the nutrients removed . With no nutrients , white rice doesn't spoil like brown rice can . We've found very little difference in taste between brown rice and white rice . If you don't like brown rice , you were probably thinking of an exotic variety that had a deeper taste . Regular brown rice you buy in the store is very nearly the same taste as white , so we've stopped buying white . Find Botan Calrose brown rice in an asian market , look at the health advantages of brown rice on the internet and you'll never go back . Note , there is a special setting on the cooker for brown rice , and different water marks for brown , and brown rice takes about 80 ( not a typo ) minutes to make one cup . I'm sure you can find more detail on line , but that should give you the basics . Ditch your long grain rice : you'll be amazed at how much better medium grain rice can be . And try brown rice : you'll be shocked at how close it is to the nutrient-less white rice . This cooker makes all kinds of rice really well . I've had it for about three years and we use it nearly every day . It's still working like the day we got it . The nonstick bowl looks and acts like new . The battery keeps all of the settings and the current time , though my understanding is that the battery is not easily replaceable without sending it back .
      • 001 4  My wife and I became busy recently and decided it was time to finally get a rice cooker to save some time in the kitchen . We bought a cheap old-school rice cooker and the rice would scorch , water would boil out of lid , and the rice was worse than cooking the rice on the stove top . Then we decided to invest in a good rice cooker . The Zojirushi NS-LAC05 is everything we hoped for and more . We wanted a rice cooker that would make great rice , that could handle smaller amounts of rice , that had a timer , and could handle a variety of different rices . This rice cooker is a dream . - It's attractive . We've already received compliments from guests . - Its footprint is very reasonable for a small kitchen . - With a thick , stick proof bowl the rice doesn't burn to any spot and clean up is simple . - It easily makes rice for 2 adults ( 1.5 of the cups for us ) but could handle 4 adults ( 3 cups ) with normal eating habits . Note : the cups aren't full size cups of rice . - It does a great job on a variety of rices ; there are different settings for different rices and the measurement markings appear correct for different rices . So far we've tried long grain brown , medium grain brown , sushi , jasmine , white basmati , brown basmati , and brown / white mixes . We haven't had a bad batch of rice . - The computer's fuzzy logic algorithm ( i.e . Micom Neuro Fuzzy ) constantly adjusts the temperature so the rice comes out perfect every time . I also think the cooker starts out at a low temperature and gradually steps up the heat but I'm not 100% sure . - The heavy bowl seems to distribute heat perfectly and there's no scorched rice or crust attached to the bowl . - The timer is convenient for setting the rice to be completed at a specific time , at which point it keeps your rice warm . We've found it completes cooking within a minute or two of the timer setting . There are two timer settings that you can adjust . . . presumably so you could have your rice prepared for breakfast & dinner in Japan . - The retractable cord is a nice feature . - There's even a little holder for the included rice paddle that attaches to the side of the cooker . We've even used it to make Polenta . Just use 1 Zojirushi-cup of corn grits , chicken broth up to 2 - cup brown rice mark , and cook using the white rice setting . When it's done , put the mixture in a bowl and let it cool to room temperature . I'd highly recommend this rice cooker . It's probably not big enough for a big family but for a single person , a couple , or a small family it will probably fit the bill perfectly . I can't over-emphasize the quality of rice the cooker produces . . . it's like a dream having rice as good or better than a restaurant at home . We probably eat grain cooked in this machine 6 - 7 nights a week . Once you switch to this Zojirushi you'll never want to go back to your old ways .
      • 002 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I set the timer in the morning and the rice is ready when I come home from work . When I walk in the door , my apartment smells of cooked rice , - - which is surprisingly pleasant . The timer is a must especially for brown rice which takes one hour and 40 minutes to cook . If I come home late , the rice is still okay since it automatically goes into a keep warm mode when the cycle is completed . It has a mixed rice mode which actually means cooking chicken , fish and tofu with the rice ( not tried it yet ) . The only con is that the direction are terrible . It must have been poorly translated from Japanese . I'm not subtracting a star for this issue because it's so simple to operate once you know what to do . The cooking bowl has water level gradations etched into the side - - there are several depending upon the setting ( brown , white , etc . ) You put the dry rice into the bowl using the supplied measuring and add water until the level reaches the line for the rice you are cooking ( brown rice is from .5 cup to 2 cups , white rice is from 1 to 3 cups , etc . ) That is not exactly what the directions say ( e.g . , level scales according to the menu you have chosen and then flatten the surface of the rice . What ? Anyway , I comes out perfect and steamy hot . A special nubby rice spatula is included . Also , it makes great oatmeal , even the steel cut type that normally takes 30 minutes to cook . Use the porridge setting . Use about half as much water as recommended on the oatmeal box . It has two timers that remember the last time used and the cooking setting . I have one timer set for porridge in the morning and the other for brown rice in the evening . It has a small footprint on my counter - about the size of a toater . The cord has a retraction mechanism ( like a vacuum cleaner ) which means here is no excess cord on the counter . There is a large handle , much like you would see on a small cooler , making it easy to put pick up and put away when not in use .

      • 004 4  Received this Zojirushi 3 - cup Micom as a self-holiday gift a week ago . Since then , I've made sushi rice , basmati , brown & wild medley , along with various types of dal ( basmati and red / yellow lentils with curry ) and mujadarah ( basmati and green lentils with carmelized onions ) . I've also used the warming part of things to gently steam scallops on top of rice for a New Year's treat . Yum ! Soon I'll try veggies and flavored broths . I first put in too much water , since the directions didn't make it clear that the water measures on the cooking bowl include rice at the bottom . But after I got this right , the results were perfect each time . The rice is as good or better than from a restaurant ( plus fresher ) , and much , much cheaper to make at home , particularly if you purchase rice by the pound . I'm working on my sushi technique , but it's already tasting good if looking funky . I do advise rinsing , rinsing , rinsing the rice before cooking . Soaking the grains doesn't really seem necessary , unless you're using the timer , in which case there is no way around it . Speaking of which , the timer works great . It was wonderful to wake up to the aroma of fresh rice . I fixed dal a few times and then left for the gym . When I came home , it was ready , steaming hot , perfectly cooked and the house smelled divine . I think it gently steams , then cooks just at or below a boil , and then steams again . So it really is terrific with beans , such as lentils , that easily fall apart with too much rough treatment , but that benefit from a long slow simmer . And , of course , that's the way to go for rice too . The Zojirushi is easy to use , doesn't take up much countertop space , is attractive and easy to carry around . I took it over to a friend's house for my contribution to a holiday meal . During the car ride , the rice stayed warm in the bowl and helped keep some bread wrapped in foil warm . Actually the warm function keeps rice warm for hours with no diminishment of the quality . The Zojirushi makes cute sounds when it starts up and finishes cooking . Also it's a snap to clean ! No nasty white residue and boiled over starch , or scalding steam or water . It truly cleans up in a minute , which is amazing in itself . What's not to like ? Well , the price ! But Amazon was offering $25 off with a kitchen purchase of over $125 . So , although I also considered the 3.5 cup Sanyo ( which costs $99 ) - - which perhaps has a better , thicker bowl - - there wasn't really any savings . Since this is a newer model rice cooker , probably manufactured to compete with the Sanyo , the Zojirushi is what I went with . It's perfect for me . If you make bigger batches of rice at one time , though , I suppose a larger size would be better . Amazon offered the best deal , BTW , including eBay , shopping locally , etc , since there was no tax or S / H . I considered American rice cookers , hot pot styles , etc . They all looked like junk , and I wasn't convinced that they wouldn't turn out messy , glue-like rice . I'm glad I went ahead and got the best for my uses . The quality of rice and beans has been outstanding . Plus I can't get over how much money I'm saving by not buying take-out , and I get to season the food to my liking . There is hardly any food that is cheaper , more comforting or nutritious than rice and beans , and you can keep the oil and butter to a minimum to keep the calories low while not feeling deprived . I'm going to use it to pack lunches too , which means the Zojirushi will pay for itself in one month . Since it arrived , I've hardly used the microwave and hardly have eaten any meat . And , boy , does food taste better ! Totally highly recommended .

      • 007 4  This rice cooker simply cooks the best rice I have ever had . The size is perfect for 2 people . So far I have made white rice , brown rice , steel cut oatmeal , and a few twists on rice . I mixed white rice with veggie stock , soy sauce , broccoli , and carrots . It came out excellent . I tried the Jambalaya recipe found on the Zojirushi website . It was super easy and also came out excellent . The oatmeal was out of this world , I had never had steel cut oatmeal . If you haven't tried it , I would recommend it , it is not the same as the instant oats we are used to from the Puritan spokesman . With this rice cooker , cooking steel cut oatmeal is as easy as cooking instant ( I use half a cup of oats in the rice measurer , one and a half cups of water , half a cup of milk ) . The cooker is so simple to use , easy to use the timer to have the rice / oatmeal ready whenever you want it . You can read the manual to learn to program it , but it is very intuitive . If you happen to run late , the cooker keeps the rice warm and fresh for several hours . The clean up is a huge selling point . The thick bowl is non stick and cleans up easily , the upper lid snaps out and cleans up easily , even the spatula / fluffer cleans up easily . I usually have it clean before the rice is cool enough to eat . In my opinion , it is worth the extra cost . The rice does not come out clumpy like in a steamer or less expensive cooker . You can see and feel the quality in the product . A very good buy .
      • 008 4  I have the same usual story of woe ; used a cheap , awful rice maker with a glass lid for years , had to deal with an awful mess anytime I just wanted a side of rice . I finally gave in and ordered this 3 - cup rice cooker after doing a lot of research . It's as great as everyone says ! It was just delivered this afternoon , and I've already pulled it out and cooked up some rice . It was so simple , I didn't even bother reading the instructions . The truly fantastic thing about it was , I was able to go run an errand that suddenly came up without worrying about leaving it sitting . When I got home , a * perfectly * cooked serving of rice was waiting for me . It is quite expensive , and I debated buying it because I'm moving to Japan next year . But I have absolutely no problem with spending the measely $20 to send it on over to myself . Admittedly , I am only one person , and never cook for more than 4 , but I can't see this rice cooker failing to deliver for a small family of average eaters . I only made one cup ( smaller than the ' 1 cup ' we use in cooking ) , and it made a full bowl of rice . This is the first time I've ever bothered writing a review for anything - - but I simply had to , because I am SO impressed . I would reccomend this cooker to anyone who loves eating lots of quality rice . : )
      • 009 4  I love my Zojirushi rice cooker ! I didn't mind cooking white rice on the oven or quick oatmeal in the microwave , but I really prefer brown rice and steel-cut oatmeal . The problem was , by the time my wife or I got home to start dinner , it was too late to start on brown rice . It was the same at breakfast - there just was not enough time to cook steel-cut oatmeal on weekdays , so I only had it on weekends . I was not willing to pay $100 for a rice cooker , but when I read that it could cook oatmeal as well as brown rice , and it could do it on a timer , and that it could keep rice warm for several hours , I was willing to give it a shot . If you follow the directions ( rinse your rice ! ) , it really does all of those things . Rice comes out great every time ( I have tried several varieties of brown rice ) , and so does steel-cut oatmeal ( I use McCann's ) . Rice will stay warm for many hours . Clean up is a total breeze , particularly if you do it as soon as the bowl cools . Since I bought it , I have discovered that my 1 and 1 / 2 year-old loves brown rice and oatmeal , so I have started setting the timer every night so that there is fresh oatmeal waiting for us when we get up . I have used it every day for about four months , and I do not have a single complaint . If you can cough up the $100 + , I would highly recommend this rice cooker .
      • 010 4  When I was in Japan for five months in 2006 I first witnessed the magic that is a rice cooker / warmer . I quickly grew attached to it and used it every day . After coming back to the states I went shopping for one and thought , aren't these all the same ? and bought the cheapest I could find . What a mistake that was . After using it for a few months I just couldn't take it anymore . The rice was always burnt , soggy , or crusty . So last week I got the NS-LAC05 in the mail and fell in love instantly . It makes perfect rice every time . The warmer keeps rice moist and fresh for a long time ( I sometimes leave it in for 12 + hours ) . Honestly , I couldn't be happier with my purchase . After reading some of the reviews here I was pleasantly surprised to hear that you can put steel-cut oats as well as beans / veggies / meat / fish in it . I had no idea but I look forward to trying this out for myself . Highly recommended .
      • 011 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) After years of struggling to cook a variety of rices perfectly and consistently on the stovetop , I now own a machine that does the job . I've only owned my NS-LAC05 for about two weeks but , so far , I couldn't be more pleased with it . I've cooked a mixed whole grain rice called Black Japonica , as well as brown basmati , several times each and every batch has come out perfectly . For my purposes , the most valuable feature of this machine is the timer . I put the rice and water in the cooker before going to work in the morning , set the timer for 8 : 00 p.m . , and have perfect , warm rice waiting for me when I get home from the gym . Once the rice is done cooking , the machine automatically goes into keep warm mode . . . so I have nothing to worry about if I get hung up at work or stay at the gym longer than planned . Perfect rice is waiting for me . This cooker with timer makes eating healthy whole grains possible even with busy schedule and a lack of the patience necessary to wait an hour after arriving home to eat dinner . Although the size of this cooker sounds small ( 3 - cup ) , it's perfect for solo eaters up to dinner parties of 6 . Well worth the money . . . enjoy !

      • 013 4  I've been doing the Zone diet ( or the basic idea of combining fats , carbs , and proteins in a healthy way with every meal ) for over a year now , and one component of my breakfasts has always seemed like more work than it was worth : making steel cut oatmeal on the stove . Stir , stir , stir . Even soaking in boiling water the night before didn't always work out as planned - - on a few occasions , even using purified water and a perfectly clean pot , there would be mold on the surface of the oats by morning . Not healthy in my book . I just received my Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker yesterday and found a recipe here for making steel-cut oats . 1 - part oats 2.5 - parts water Add any other spices you might want : cinnamon , dash of salt , etc . I set the timer to have it ready to eat at 7 : 30 AM . The result : While I was sleeping , the oatmeal cooked , without boiling over or needing more than a minute of my time . The texture is perfect ! It's not overcooked and yet there is just the right amount of moisture left over - - not too runny or too thick . What an AMAZING device . And it looks like a pro appliance too . If you're in the market for something that can do more than rice , or need a smaller cooker for 1 - 2 people , this one would serve you well , and look great doing it !
      • 014 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) Having just completed a signficant weight-loss program ( lost 100 lbs this year ) , I have been researching healthier eating options while I can still begin to enjoy some of my old cravings , and rice is at the top of that list . I began looking into rice cookers and bought the Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook , and that research led me to this and other similar products . I decided that for my needs I would spend the extra money for this apparently-superior product . Well , I took delivery on it yesterday and put it right to work . I sauteed up some onions and garlic and chicken sausage , and then some brown basmati I had on hand ( 1 / 2 of a Zoji cup for a single serving ) , and then loaded the mixture up into my new Zoji NS-LAC05 along with just over 1 Zoji cup of chicken broth ( given the mixture I concocted , I decided to measure the mixture instead of using the bowl markings ) , and set it to cook while I went downstairs to my apt . gym for an hour on the treadmill . When I returned to the apt . , the rice was still cooking but already smelled heavenly . About 30 minutes later the cycle completed , and I let it sit on warm to steam another 10 minutes or so as recommended in the Cookbook . Served it up , and yep , you guessed it , it was the best darned plate of rice I've ever eaten . . . perfectly cooked and with perfect texture . Before retiring to bed for the night , I followed the recommendations of several reviews right here and prepped my first serving of Steel Cut Oats ( which I purchsed the other day in advance of receiving this unit ) , with 1 / 2 Zoji cup of oats , 1.25 Zoji cups of water , some brown sugar and ground cinnamon , and a handful of raisins . I set it to complete the next morning ( today ) for 5 : 30AM breakfast . Needless to say , I woke up well before my alarm clock in anticipation of my breakfast , and I could hardly wait for it to complete . It finished right on time at 5 : 30AM , and seemed to be , again , of perfect consistency ( I've never had Steel Cuts before , so I have no basis for comparison ) . Served it up in a bowl topped with some skim milk , and all I can say is that this will change my life forever . I'm not exaggerating . OMG , this is GOOD ! ! And the fact that I can get this ready the night before and have it ready piping hot and on time the next morning . . . what's better than THAT ? ? I then proceeded to get today's lunch ready . . . I sauteed up some more onions and garlic , and some diced ham , and then 1 / 2 Zoji cup of brown basmati , loaded the mixture up into the cooker along with just over 1 Zoji cup of chicken broth , and also a packet of no-sodium beef boullion . I've set the cooker to have it ready for me at 11 : 30AM , and needless to say I'm already psyched for lunch , and it's only 7 : 15AM now in my office as I write this . I can't wait to try more rice and grain concoctions . My biggest problem with this cooker is going to be eating my new treats in moderation so that I don't gain back all the weight I lost . . . the output so far is THAT GOOD !

      • 018 4  look fancy and beautiful . Many friends aksked me how much did I pay for that . They said look great seems expensive . Timer is awesome . very exact . If you want rice 1 : 00 pm just insert time 13 : 00 push cooking button . YOu will get good rice 12 : 59 - 13 : 01 In my case , Timer is very important . because I'd love soak rice in the water in an hour before I cook . If I do that taste is much better . but If timer do not exist and I should wait an hour after wash rice and put rice in water . but If I have timer I do not need to do that . I only cook white rice . and it takes 50 minites to complete cook . it take longer than the other rice cooker . and as I wrote before I need soaking time an hour . but It dose't matter for me . I eat rice every day . Good rice cooker is like a bass of rock music . It is taste really good . Zojirushi is japanese company it is famous as cooker company . . I am from korean and we have many rice cooker company . many korean use korean company rice cooker , but some people use Zojirushi product . even it is little more expensive . but I do not know anyone who use the other japanese company rice cooker . I eat rice almost every day in my life ( I'm 25 years old ) but it is the best non pressure rice cooker . ( pressure cooker is best . My mother has it but I don't ) I've been use this cooker around 1 year it is work fine so far .
      • 019 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I chose the NS-LAC05 after a serious Google expedition . I chose Amazon for price , quick delivery AND the consumer reviews . After another serious review of consumer comments , I determined the ideal recipe to be 1 Zoji cup McCann's steel cut oats to 2 1 / 2 Zoji cups of water . I set the ' menu ' to ' porridge . ' 61 minutes later , I had a perfect bowl of thick oats { I prefer my oats thick } . My second attempt was a disaster ! I learned the cooker defaults to ' white rice ' when you turn it off . It promptly boiled over spewing oat milk all over . So , the machine makes perfect thick creamy steel cut oats . Just remember to ALWAYS make sure the ' menu ' is set to ' porridge ' before pressing the ' cooking ' button .

      • 021 4  I bought this rice cooker after the latch on my old Sunpentown one broke ( $60 , used for 6 years ) . In terms of taste , I can't see too much of a difference between this one and my old Sunpentown . However , my old rice cooker didn't have a timer , and the timer function on this rice cooker is probably its best attribute ( followed closely by the porridge cooker function ) . It takes a lot longer for this rice cooker to cook than my old one , but the timer function takes care of that nicely . If you're just looking for something to cook plain white rice once in a while as an alternative to cooking rice on the stove , I think you can find cheaper alternatives . However , if you like having a timer and multiple modes of cooking , this might be worth the money . I eat rice with every meal , so this was a great purchase . It's also nice waking up to perfectly cook breakfast porridge .
      • 023 4  The design , the functions , the quality are all above expected , except one problem . The coating material on the removable pot is not sponge / plastic scour resistant ! They leave scratch marks so we have to clean really carefully with soft sponge only and can be cumbersome if there is bottom crust . Hope Zojirushi would have made it more sturdy agaist plastic scour . As a solution , we suggest soaking the pot before cleaning .
      • 025 4  I had some reservations about spending so much for a rice cooker but am very glad I did . It's so simple to use and makes perfect rice every time - as good as I've had in any restaurant . It has special settings for white rice , brown rice , sushi rice , and porridge , and makes great mixed rice too . So far I've made Spanish , Thai , Italian & Indian style rice - just throw in whatever extra ingredients you want on top & you're good to go . It's a great way to work more whole grains into your diet - I'm an otherwise good cook but there were so many healthy dishes that I wasn't making because I couldn't face sticky , soggy stovetop rice . No hovering over a stove with this - just press the button & go do something else . When it's done it automatically switches to keep warm mode . It's great with small quantities of rice & is the perfect size for 2 - 3 people . It's compact , about the size of a toaster , lightweight , and easy to clean . If you are trying to decide between this and a cheap rice cooker , treat yourself to the zojirushi - you won't be sorry . It could make the difference between using it all the time or not at all . I liked mine so much that I bought another one for my mom . And of course it plays twinkle twinkle little star . . . : )
      • 027 4  Having been raised on Japanese food my whole life I am a stickler when it comes to good quality white rice that is cooked to perfection . I can always tell the difference between good rice and cheap rice and whether or not its been cooked properly . Also since I've gotten older , I've grown to love brown rice . My old el-cheapo rice cooker would almost always under cook my white rice , and brown rice would make a huge mess all over the counter . I had been eyeing one of these fuzzy logic cookers for a long time . I finally took the plunge and bought one last week . I love this little high-tech appliance ! A few tips to those who want to experience amazing Japanese style white rice : 1 . Buy this or a similar fuzzy logic rice cooker . You can't go wrong with Zojirushi , they are a very reputable and well known brand in Japan . 2 . When it comes to rice , buy the good stuff at your Asian market . You can tell by the price of a bag . The good stuff usually costs almost twice as much as the cheaper rice . Tamaki Gold ( [ . . . ] ) is a good one . 3 . The quality of the water you cook the rice in is very important . I use tap water to rinse my rice , then cook it in filtered or bottled water , it makes a huge difference . 4 . Follow the directions that come with your rice cooker . Be sure to measure the rice and water amounts correctly . Enjoy !
      • 028 4  I have successfully perfectly cooked : Tilda Basmati Texmati Nozumi short grain sushi Kagayaki short grain sushi Thai Jasmins-multiple brands Short grain browns steel cut oats oat groats regular quaker oat cereal pearled barley White potatoes-quarter and use 1 / 4 to 1 / 2 cup water Sweet Potatoes - quarter and use 1 / 4 to 1 - / 2 c water Every fish you can imagine It has practically replaced my Oster and Black and Decker electric steamers I have wished for this cooker for 20 years and now it's here .
      • 029 4  The maximum capacity for any type of white rice is 2 cups only , 3 cups for other types . It seems to cook rice perfectly . We had a previous Zojirushi cooker ( 5 - cup ) which always appeared to need more water than the instructions requested . Adding extra water isn't such a good idea with this particular cooker . Notes : Plays Mary Had A Little Lamb when rice is done . I am not making this up . Displays time of day in military ( 24 - hr ) format . Has a retractable power cord that actually works .
      • 030 4  Bought the rice cooker from Amazon Nov , 06 based on the excellent reviews . Expensive rice cooker but it's nice looking and it cooks beautiful and tasty rice better than most of the restaurants ! ! ! I'm so happy that I go with the right choice !
      • 031 4  The Zojirushi NS-LAC05 3 - cup is the best rice cooker I have ever used . It is not the first , but definitely the best . I recommend it to everyone I can . We have rice now at least 3 times per week .
      • 033 4  Upgraded an older rice cooker with this one and am very glad that I did . No mess from the rice bubbles / resulting film . A little concerned about the life of the battery that runs the internal clock since it appears that you are supposed to send it in for sercive when it dies . I'm not 100% happy with the need to use the included measuring cup since a 1 cup measure is really only about 3 / 4 cup . This means that you're portions will be off if you ever lose ( or forget to use ) their measuring cup . Time will tell .
      • 034 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) Ok , this is an awful lot to pay for making rice .
      • 036 4  I asked my husband for a rice cooker as a gift , and also asked him not to spend too much on it because I'd never used one before and wasn't sure if I'd like it . After all , cooking rice on the stove is not much more complicated than boiling water , so what added value can you get from a rice cooker ? Of course he went out and researched and shopped around and bought me this expensive one . Thank heavens . Who knew that cooking rice could be even easier than I thought ? Toss some rice and water into the bowl , turn it on , and you're done . If you don't want to wait for it to cook at dinner time , just set it up in the morning and use the timer . The timer function and porridge setting are great . Use the porridge setting to make fantastic oatmeal . You can put the oats and water in the cooker the night before and set the timer for the next morning . Waking up on a cold weekend to hot , fresh oatmeal is amazing ! It's ridiculously easy to clean . A quick swish with sudsy water and a swipe of a sponge and you're done . You'll also want to pop out the steam cover to rinse and dry it , plus run a towel along the inside of the vent . About 90 seconds worth of effort and you're ready for your next batch . Some Notes : 1 . This machine doesn't come with a vegetable steamer option ; 2 . The clock on the front is in 24 - hour time and can't be changed to 12 - hour time ; 3 . The default setting is a LOUD tune at the start and end of the cycle . You can change this pretty easily to either a beep or silence by following the instructions ; 4 . If you've never used a rice cooker before , you may find the manual seriously lacking . Get a rice-cooker cookbook . Mine tells me that rice cookers are so common in the Asian world - - like toasters in the West - - that they don't need detailed instructions , people just know how to use them . 5 . For oatmeal : follow the recipe on the box of oatmeal you prefer , NOT the proportions for rice porridge in the manual . Rice porridge is more like a broth . You may want to increase the liquid a bit ; I find the results a little thicker than I'm used to . 6 . The big surprise for me is that you need to rinse your rice before using it . I thought this would be a nuisance , but it's no big deal . You just measure out the rice , quickly swish it around in some water , pour off the water and repeat a couple of times until the water stops turning so cloudy ( you don't have to go for totally clear ) . 7 . Leftover rice can be frozen and kept a long time . Nobody told me this before . If I didn't know , then I assume other people might not know either . I would have thought it would ruin the texture , but it doesn't . I take it right out of the freezer to use in other recipes , without defrosting it .
      • 037 4  I have became a brown rice and steel cut oatmeal freak since purchasing this cooker ! Perfectly cooked every time and easy cleanup . Be aware : * 3 / 4 U.S . cup = 1 rice cooker cup : * This cooker has a maximum of 2 cups ( 1.5 cups U.S . ) raw brown rice . More than enough for 2 people . * It will cook 3 cups of raw white rice . * For steel cut oatmeal , cooking 3 / 4 cup raw , cooks fine for 2 medium servings . Cooking 1 cup - add a pinch of salt to the oatmeal - to keep it from boiling up to the top vent . I always pushed rice to the side of my plate until I tasted brown rice a year ago and ordered a $30 cooker from Amazon . Since then , I have eaten more rice in the past year than I have in the past 50 years . I noticed the brown rice grains in my cheapo cooker were sticky , cracked and exploded and decided to take a chance on this very fine cooker to see what the difference was . By varying the amount of water just a very little bit , you can make a rice that is firm or soft and have it come out the same every single time , just the way you like it . Use the markings on the inside of the pot as a general guide only and vary the water level to your own preference . Because of the soak and rest cycle in the machines program , it takes about 90 minutes to cook brown rice . Steel cut oatmeal is about 50 minutes . Both worth the little extra time . My wife objected to this purchase as just another gadget cluttering up the kitchen cabinet . Now she has oatmeal 3 - 4 times a week instead of maybe twice a year and even used some left over rice to make stir fired rice w / egg for breakfast and became hooked . If the size is right , go for it .
      • 039 4  I got this little rice cooker because I just could not make consistent rice in the microwave or on the stove top . This rice cooker produces perfect rice everytime from long grain to sushi rice . The quality is just as good as a larger rice maker but you can make rice for just one or two if you would like . I do find it annoying that the rice cup is not actually 1 cup .
      • 040 4  I'll keep this brief , since there are a number of other posted positive reviews . I have owned various sized rice cookers and this one fits the bill for a small cooker that prepares enough rice for a couple or small family . I have had this one for about a month and used it about ten times . Overall , medium and long grain white rices take about 40 minutes to cook , but come out perfect every time ! I have also made fried rice in this cooker , combining prepared ingredients ( sauteed veggies , meat , fried egg , soy sauce and seasoning ) with the rice before cooking , and it too came out perfectly done . Have also used it to keep rice warm for up to 4 hours with no degradation in the taste or texture . The design is slick , with a fingerprint-free metal finish , retractable cord and rice spoon holder ( spoon included ! ) . It even plays jaunty tunes when first engaged and when your rice is ready . The top-mounted display is easy to read and program , especially when compared to competitors ' models with front mounted displays . My complaints are few . First , although it is called a 3 - cup cooker , it recommends cooking no more than two cups of white rice ( pre-cooked ) at a time . Also , the manual is translated from the original Japanese which makes it a little awkward to understand at times . Finally , although there are recipes included in the manual , they are few and suffer from poor translation . Otherwise , all is well with the Zojirushi NS-LAC05 . A wise buy despite its few shortcomings !
      • 041 4  After burning out 3 pots trying , I quit making rice until I could find a cooker that was the right size ( small ) , was easy to clean , and wouldn't break after 3 uses ( National ) . When i saw the Zojirushi could also make steel cut oats I was sold . I have used it for 2 weeks and made sushi rice , white rice and steel cut oats . The timer is great ! It has my breakfast ready and waiting when I wake up and comes out perfectly every time . The rice has also been flawless . I love the size ( same size as my toaster ) and the retractable cord . The bowl inside is non-stick , and removable making it a breeze to clean . This is a winner ! ! It is perfectly sized for singles or couples . I could not be happier ! ps : Best steel cut recipe is 1 : 2.5 ( oats to water ) , programmed on ' Porridge ' setting .
      • 042 4  This is my first rice cooker . I've never had a problem making rice on the stove , but I was attracted to the convenience of a rice cooker . This one was well-reviewed , so when I found a good price ( $105 ) , I bought it from VeryAsia . Quality : In general , the quality of the cooker is very good . Note that this unit is made in China , not Japan . There is one quality issue I noticed : two of the buttons on the front have wrinkles in them , which is not acceptable in a high-end device like this . But the function isn't affected , and otherwise , the unit seems to be very well-made . Cooking : I have made rice a dozen times , including white , sushi , and brown . I have also made steel-cut oatmeal in it many times . All in all , the rice comes out very good and very consistent . The brown rice is a little drier than I'm used to , but it is light and fluffy . The sushi rice was good , but not as sticky as I expected . It does a great job on oatmeal with the porridge setting . Since oatmeal usually takes 1 / 2 hour on the stove , I enjoy setting the timer so I have hot oatmeal ready in the morning . Soaking the oatmeal overnight also helps it soften up . So overall , I would say this cooker does a good job with its intended function . Of course , a $20 rice cooker probably cooks basic rice just as well , but this one is more fun ! Features : The timer is a godsend , since the cooker doesn't tell you when the rice will be done if you don't use the timer . You set the timer for the time you want the rice to be ready , and it seems to work every time . The retractable cord is a great feature , since you may want to leave this on your counter , and they recommend unplugging it between uses . The start / finish chime is a little hokey , but cute - and it can be disabled . The keep warm function is nice - it goes into this mode as soon as the rice is done , and maintains your rice in good condition until you are ready to eat it . This is not a large rice cooker , so don't expect it to work for a large family . It makes plenty of rice for 3 - 4 people , though . Cleanup : This unit is very easy to clean ! The cooking bowl is super-nonstick . A quick wipe with a sponge is all it takes to remove all residue . There is a steam tray in the lid of the unit that should be removed and dried each time , but this is very easy to do . I did notice that the steam tray collects some gunk when I make oatmeal , so I make sure to clean it when I use it for that purpose . Small complaints : I was surprised how long the cooker takes on brown rice - over 1 1 / 2 hours ! For white rice , it's more like 40 minutes . Unfortunately , there is no way to tell when the rice is going to be done . A countdown timer appears in the last few minutes , but before that you are just guessing . It is almost necessary to use the timer , at least until you get a feel for how long the cooker takes for certain types of rice . Other than those small issues , I'm very happy with this purchase , and I hope it lasts a long time . I'm sure you can buy much cheaper rice cookers that cook just as well , but this one has a nice set of features , looks great , and is fun to use .
      • 043 4  This is the perfect rice cooker . I love its tiny size ( its footprint is just a little larger than a gallon of Crystal Geiser water ) , the ease of use , the nifty retractable cord , and the timer - - oh the timer ! What a wonderful invention . Makes dinner so much easier to plan . The only complaint I have is that it is MUCH too small for our little family ( me , my husband , and our 18 - month-old baby ) . Other reviewers have said it's perfect for a small family . Not so for us . Maybe it's because we eat more rice than the average small family , but after one use , it's quite apparent that we will be selling our gently used one and buying the 5.5 cup version . We eat both brown and white rice , but I've only cooked white rice so far . Prospective buyers should know that the max capacity for white rice is only TWO cups ( not the full capacity of three cups ) . Not sure why . All I know is that for best results , the instructions recommend not cooking any more than 2 cups of white rice . Hope this helps . Other than the size not working for us , this cooker is great .
      • 047 4  I have always used a rice cooker , but have only cooked sushi rice . I started a diet that included brown rice . I tried cooking it in my old rice cooker and even tried it on the stove , but the rice was either crunchy or like glue . The Zojirushi rice cooker cooks the best brown rice I have ever eaten ! Also since brown rice takes a little longer to cook , the programming feature is perfect ! It allows me to come home from work and have the perfect rice ready to eat ! Well worth the money ! I recommended this rice cooker to a friend and she loves it too !
      • 048 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) It's a great rice maker - makes good rice without effort . My only cause not to give it 5 stars is that it takes a long time to make the rice - approximately 2 - 3 times longer than my old cheapo rice cooker . BUT the rice it does make is way better . I especially enjoy the timer function so I can wake up to freshly made rice or oatmeal in the morning . I would say that it is definately worth the money so far .
      • 050 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I've had this for about two months now and it has turned out better than I expected . I've never had brown rice that I liked before but it turns out perfect with this . I found out that I can cook dried beans in this to perfection ! I put 2 1 / 2 parts water to one part beans and use the white rice setting . After the timer goes off I pour cold water on top then rinse and drain . Beans come out firm with skins attached but not mealy . I've tried black beans and black-eyed peas this way so far with great results . A bag of mixed beans did not work as well .

      • 052 4  I'm one of those people who believes in the less clutter , the better , so I'm always loathe to purchase kitchen equipment that I might never use . I fear complicated and difficult-to-clean devices in particular . In my house , things that aren't dishwasher safe go to Goodwill in a hurry . No part of the Zojirushi cooker is dishwasher safe , but that didn't stop me from falling in love with it after the first batch of perfectly-cooked rice . Unlike the pots I used to use to cook rice , this little machine's solid non-stick coated bowl sloughs off any and all bits of rice with the lightest brush of my hand . It's a cinch to clean . Handwashing the rice cooker bowl takes thirty seconds . That's less time than it used to take me to prewash / scrub the pots I used to use to cook rice before putting them in the dishwasher . What's more , the rice comes out perfectly and evenly cooked ; the machine plays cute songs when starting and stopping the cooking process , making cooking seem a little less awful ( I hate cooking ) ; the timer function means I don't lose any sleep getting fresh rice ready at 5 AM when I pack my husband's lunch ; and the mixed rice function lets me throw in bits of chicken or other items to be cooked at the same time . I couldn't be happier with this rice cooker and would recommend it to anyone who is considering a small cooker for their own family .
      • 053 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) this has to be one of the coolest things i have purchased . i love love love it . once i got mine i realized that with a bag of rice and a sack of red beans ill never starve.i liked it so much i bought one for a friend in college and one each for my two kids . this is one of the easiest ways to make a healthy hardy meal . i live alone , i set it go to work and when i come home the house is full of the aroma of lovely brown rice , yummmmmmmmm ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
      • 055 4  I agree with all the positive reviews here . I purchased this to cook brown rice and now thats all my family eats now that it comes out perfect everytime . I cook add'l and keep in the fridge . Just add a few drops of water to a bowl ( to rehydrate the rice a little ) , load rice in & microwave a minute or more . I have also cooked steel cut oats using the brown rice cycle which worked well . I have also done black beans without soaking , but I had to run the brown rice cycle two times to get it right . ( this meant I had to let it cool down between cycles by removing the bowl and setting it aside and leaving the lid open so the unit cooled as well , because the safety feature will not let you start a new cycle if the temp is above a certain amt . ) If in a hurry , you could put cold water in sink and let the bowl sit in it a few minutes too . Maybe if you soak the beans overnight , you would only have to run it once . I shall try soaking the beans another time to see if I can use only 1 cycle . I have also cooked 20 minute stove-top rice using the quick rice cycle , this also was dead on too . I am sure if I gave it some thought I could be a lot more creative and I am betting all whole grains will cook in the brown rice cycle . Also , do not put directly under cabinets as it steams a lot near the end of the cycle , pull it out a little on the counter so it clears the cabinets . Incidently , I made a few measurements and tested & timed a few things . First off the plastic rice cup measurer took 2 / 3 + 2 Tablespoons of water in case anyone lost theirs . Second , for brown rice , this takes a whopping 1hr 41 minutes to complete so allow the time . Due to the length , I decided to measure how many KW it was using for that cycle with my P3 kill a watt . It used .16 in total for the 1hr 41min cycle which confirms what I thought . . that is doesn't draw full power the entire time and isn't an energy hog . This is about what a 100 - watt candescent lightbulb would use in the same amount of time . All in all , this product is very well thought out , very well made and is extremely reliable . Even though it is made in China it is of highest quality . It has a small footprint and even a retractable cord and carrying handle . The bowl is holding up quite well . Periodically remove the insert on the lid where the gasket is to wash any residue that might be built up . I was very hesitant to plunk down all that money , but I have no regrets today and I am considering buying the larger model since I use it so much . This is great for lazy people too , it takes a minute to get it going and very little clean-up involved ! My husband and kids can even use this thing . Hope this helps , just thought I would give back my review for all the helpful ones I have used .
      • 059 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I am Asian cooks rice almost everyday and this is a perfect rice cooker for me . I had a different brand which was nothing wrong but I was not happy about the quality od cooking so , I switched this one , I love it . I recommend this one for who cooks rice as their main meal , using short grain rice .
      • 061 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I debated over buying an appliance dedicated solely to one task and one task only , but I am so glad I finally did . This rice cooker has changed my life , in so much as it gives me one less thing to think about when I walk in the door from work and am confronted with getting dinner on the table in a timely fashion . It's such a relief to not even have to measure out the rice and water and get that going ; Zojirushi has it under control and I can focus on the veggies and the protein . The appliance is very easy to use and pre-program , and easy to clean / maintain . ( Washing out the non-stick bowl sure beats having to clean out the entire microwave when the rice water inevitably bubbles over ) . It is relatively easy to store ( the retractable cord is nice ) , although it does take up a fair amount of space in the cabinet . Oh , and it makes much better rice than I ever did , either with the stovetop method or the microwave method , AND it keeps it warm so timing is not really as much as an issue . Finally , this has gotten me over my reluctance to try brown rice ( ugggh , who has 45 minutes to wait while brown rice cooks ? ) Now it starts cooking before I even get home , shortening the time it takes me to get dinner on the table considerably . I really recommend this for anyone who eats rice with any regularity at all ( I use the Zojirushi about once a week ) and who is interested in simplifying life just a little bit .

      • 064 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I have been making bad rice for 20 years , first batch out of this unit was the best I ever made . Love this thing . Perfect for 4 or less adults . Would be too small for any larger families , but I would still strongly recommend the Zojirushi product line . I have only made long grain white rice but it comes out perfect with no thinking involved . Instuction booklet is very odd but not really that important . 3 cups dry rice , rinse 3 or 4 times , add to machine , add recommended amount of water , turn on , wait for it to cook . Took 2 minutes to clean . PS-Used free super saver shipping from amazon , product arrived in 25 hours !

      • 067 4  your life will never be the same once you get this amazing rice cooker . it is by far the best purchase I have made in the last few years . perhaps you think i'm exagerating . . i'm not . it makes the best rice ever ; it is easy to use ; it is convenient ; easy to clean up ; it can keep the rice warm . in addition to rice , it makes excellent oatmeal and porridge . if you are reading this review and are thinking , ' but i don't like rice ' , but it anyway . i did not like rice either before I got my first zojirushi rice cooker . now i really like rice - we make extra rice to have around for fried rice , rice salad , rice pudding . the possibilities are endless . this appliance is useful for everyone - - busy housewives , bachelors , food snobs , child-free married people ; single women . . . . buy it ! the only drawback is that , like most zojirushi machines , the instruction manual leaves a lot to be desired . since it is so easy to use and since there are numerous rice cooker cookbooks out there , the poor instruction manual is not really a problem .
      • 073 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I purchased this rice cooker about a year ago and have been amazed with the results . I've used it to prepare brown , wild , long and short grain white rice , and it has perfectly cooked them all . I also frequently use the timer function to have steel cut oats ready for my breakfast . I generally avoid non-stick cookware because I like having pans that I know will last me a lifetime , but it is pretty much impossible to find a good quality rice maker , this small , that isn't non-stick . I went ahead and bought it because I figured at the price I paid it would probably be high quality and last for a long time . A year later and the nonstick coating ( teflon ? ) started to blister and peel . Luckily it happened right before the one year warrenty period ended . I contacted Zojirushi and found them to be very friendly and helpful . After inspecting the pan I shipped them ( at my cost ) for physical damage , they replaced it free of charge . The entire process only took two weeks , so I didn't have to go very long cooking rice by hand . I'm hopeful that this pan will hold up longer , but Zojirushi does sell replacement pans for about 20 dollars . Despite the issues with the teflon I would still recommend this product to anyone looking for a small cooker that prepares perfectly cooked rice .

      • 075 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I've owned many rice cookers over the years . ?
      • 079 4  If you are looking for a fool proof way of cooking rice , then you have found it . It takes some time to cook the rice ( 20min perhaps ) ; it's not instant , and you can't really use instant rice in it or it over cooks it and makes it semi-pasty . What is great about it is that it's easy , and makes rice to a near perfect consistency . Put your rice in using the measuring cup that it comes with , add water to the level that is dictated on the rice cooking bowl , select your type of rice ( white , brown , and sushi ) and press your cook button . A little jingle lets you know it starts and is finished . It cleans up really easy , the rice bowl seems to have a protective coating , just take a sponge , water and little soap for sanitation purposes , and it is easily cleaned . The timer feature is great , set it for when you want the rice to be finished , and the cooker does the rest . If you don't get it when it is fished cooking it goes into a warming mode and actually keeps it fresh for a long time . . . I would have expected it to dry out but it really doesn't . I have never had a problem with it , and I recommend it to anyone .
      • 081 4  I rarely had rice as a child and when I did , it was boil-in-a-bag or rice pilaf . Well , my husband and his family eat rice every day . In fact , they don't consider it a meal unless there's a side of rice . They also had this tradition where they'd scrape the burnt portion off the bottom of the rice cooker and divide it up evenly so that no rice was wasted . Needless to say , I'm not a fan of this tradition . So I got rid of the $20 rice cooker and got this guy . And I'm in love . I've made at least one batch of rice every day for a year and I've never had a burnt batch or mushy batch . It comes out perfectly every time . I cook many types of rice : white , brown , black , basmati , jasmine , short-grain , wild rice , etc . It's suitable for all of these . My husband hated brown rice before this cooker and now he eats it several times a week . There are two negatives , but I don't think they are bad enough to warrant fewer stars : 1 . ) For anything other than white rice , this is really a 2 - cup rice cooker . 2 . ) It does not make brown rice porridge at all . It makes a great white rice porridge and even does well with half white / half brown . But when I tried to make brown rice porridge , all I got was some cooked brown rice sitting in a puddle of water . Great rice cooker ! Worth every penny !
      • 082 4  I bought this item as a present for a friend and I have had a chance to use it many times . What can I say other than it cooks great white rice . The timer function does the job , nothing has exploded or caught on fire , and did I say the rice turns out great . My friend also uses it to cook oatmeal for breakfast by putting it in the night before and using the timer . It took a bit of experimentation to get the water / oat ratio correct since the porridge recipe included is not for oatmeal . But once she got that down it works like a champ . I would recommend this for anyone who needs rice or oatmeal to be ready at a particular time or if you want to cook rice without having to worry about doing any more than adding water and rice and pushing go . Does it make better rice than doing it manually in a pot on the stove ? For me they come out the same , if I stay on top of my rice pot . If you just want to load and go then the rice cooker is the tool to use . The down sides are that it takes up room on the counter top , only does one or two things , and does cost a fair bit so only you know if low effort cooking is worth it . One tip I would offer . If I have some leftover rice in the refrigerator from the night before I can make a half batch in the cooker and when it is done I will add my leftover rice to the new rice and let it steam in the warming mode for a bit . It all comes out looking and tasting just like a fresh batch of rice .
      • 087 4  I've always cooked rice on the stovetop and I never thought I would prefer the rice cooker to my tried and true method . However , my method doesn't work as well when a person is cooking just enough rice for one . If I cooked enough to get consistant results , I wasted too much . Also , I switched from an electric coil stove to a flat top , and every pot of rice boiled over . This cooker is the perfect solution . I can make just enough for me without sacrificing quality . It is very easy , and the brown rice is the best I've ever tasted . No boiled-over messes , extremely convenient and easy to clean while using very little counter space . I expect to use this cooker every day .

I tried my hand at making brown rice with a pot and it came out pretty bad . But all you have to do with this product is follow the instructions and you have perfect brown rice .
      • 091 4  I received my expensive rice cooker from Amazon today ( ordered yesterday and had selected standard 3 to 5 day shipping to Wash , DC ) . I was so excited that I decided to stop the by local Asian market near my house to get soba noodles , soba sauce , ginger , wasabi , seaweed , and sushi rice . I made my first 1.5 cups of rice today and it ROCKED ! I felt like I was back at Yoshinoya ( Tokyo , Japan fast food joint ) ! The best part is I made just enough rice in about 30 minutes and all I did was press 2 buttons . No waste or messy clean-up . The unit is also very compact and stylish looking ! Zijorushi is the Rolls Royce of rice cookers and worth the money ! You get what you pay for here . . . quality !
      • 092 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) If you need a rice cooker and are a one or two person family , look no further . You can't beat this rice cooker for ease of use , looks and most importantly , perfect , fail-free rice . It's well worth the money .
      • 094 4  - Timer ( set it and forget it ) ; we set the timer the night before or in the morning . Never have to wait for rice , the rice waits for us and has a keep warm setting . - Cooking ; the rice cooks better than anything I've ever had . Blows away steamers or stove-top cooking . - Non-stick ; easy to clean The only complaint , as mentioned in plenty of reviews , is the instructions are a bit lacking ; but that's not a reason to not buy .
      • 100 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I purchased this mostly to make breakfast easier . I like having quinoa for breakfast , but I'm not up to cooking in the morning . I read that it could be made in a rice cooker and thought it would be nice to have it ready for me when I woke in the morning . I tried it for the first time this morning and it was perfect ! I can't wait to try brown rice in it .
      • 103 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I was a bit hesitant to spend over $100 for a rice cooker but now that I've had it for almost a year , I must say it is one of the best purchases I have made for my kitchen and something I use at least twice a week if not more .
      • 107 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) This is the best appliance I have ever had the pleasure to use .
      • 109 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) We purchased the Zojirushi 3 - cup rice cooker for our everyday rice cooking . We have a Tiger 5 cup cooker , but it is too big for my wife and I and seemed to lose quality on less than 3 cups of rice . We also are trying to eat more brown rice for health reasons and the Tiger rice cooker we have does not make good brown rice . We use Sukoyaka Genmai rice in our Zojirushi and it comes out tasting like the sticky Japanese white rice we enjoy . I'm sure it has a lot to do with the fancy electronics this cooker has that our Tiger cooker does not , but it is nice to eat healthy and eat well .

I thought ( at this price ) it would have a stainless steel interior cooking bowl and interior . Poor assumption on my part . My friend will not eat from ANYTHING with an aluminum surface so I ended up keeping it for myself . The unit has an aluminum lid the bowl is aluminum that is coated with a non-stick surface inside and out . It is very easy to clean . It is a top quality unit no doubt . The interior bowl is marked for water level and you get a scoop with a prescribed size for the unit . I have cooked white rice , brown rice and steel cut oatmeal in it . For my liking the white rice needs more water than the bowl measure requests . My origional thought was the unit was too expensive for what it did but I like it very much . After one year of use , I can't say that there is another appliance that I have enjoyed and got so much use out of . I am a fan of this appliance beyond words . The rice is always the same , perfect . I add a little extra water for my liking .

      • 115 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I used to make rice on the stove . It's not hard to do , really , so the idea of getting a rice cooker seemed a bit of a waste . But man , was I wrong . The rice this thing produces is on another level . The porridge setting is great for rice pudding or congee , which I have had nothing but great success with the white rice , sushi rice and brown rice options . The only downside is that it's not predictive when you initially start cooking the rice , so it's a bit of a gamble how long it will take to cook . The fuzzy logic unit determines when the rice is done and the timer begins to count down after an unfixed amount of time . The quantity produced by this unit is suitable for 3 people , but anything more I'd suggest the bigger unit . Summary : Buy this rice cooker .

      • 117 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I use my zojirushi everyday and my favorite things to cook are quinoa , buckwheat , and rice mix . The grain to water ratio is much lower than if you cook on the stove . For instance , if I cook 1 / 2 cup of quinoa I only use 1 / 2 cup + 1 tablespoon of water . The same holds true for rice . This cooker makes the very best rice and grain I've ever had ! Dry and fluffy , yummy , I eat more grains than every now that it's so easy : there's no more guessing on stove-top cooking . You just measure and rinse the grain , add water , and away you go . ( It even plays twinkle-twinkle-little-star . ) I only ever use two of the 4 settings : white rice / mixed and quick cooking . There are 3 other settings which I rarely use : Sushi , porridge , and brown . The unit will keep the rice warm till you're ready to eat it ( and again plays the soft , nice tune when it's ready ) . It even has a timer so the rice can be ready when you come home after work . One of my favorite rice mixes to use is : Sunwest Foods Organic Harvest Medly which is a mix of CalMati Brown Rice , Wild Rice , Sweet Brown Rice , and Heirloom Red Rice . I pick this up at Costco or you can buy on-line . I also like brown basmati . My all time favorite is quinoa and buckwheat , then I mix in a very little bit of toasted sesame oil and salt . Make sure to thoroughly rinse your quinoa before cooking .

      • 119 4  I never thought I needed a rice cooker , I've been cooking excellent rice on the stove for 30 + years , but I when I read about this cooker as also a good steel-cut oats cooker , I decided it was time to get one . I read reviews on all the other models and finally settled on this one . I absolutely can't believe how much I love this thing . It makes great rice AND great oatmeal ( soaked , which is what I wanted ) and it is so super easy ! So easy . Be sure to read some of the other reviews here that tell you how much water to use and simply put , how to use the machine , because the manual might as well be in Greek . haha . Oh - - when I got this , I immediately thought I should have gotten the larger unit , because the maximum amount you can make is 3 cups white rice , and less for brown rice . But - - I now think it's perfect , we are a 2 person household , and it's so easy to use that there's no reason not to make fresh rice every day if you want to . Also , I ordered The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook , Hensperger , at the same time and it's great , very helpful , informative and has yummy recipes . Very highly recommended .
      • 120 4  For $100 , this is really the best rice cooker you can find . It's price fluctuated over time , so make sure your purchase it at the right time . We are using it every day now . It's convenient and easy to operate , perfect for a busy family of 2 or 3 . But If you need to feed some big eaters , this might not the best choice .
      • 121 4  I got this rice cooker from Amazon about 1 year ago and I love it ! Perfect rice every time . I can definitely tell the difference in rice between this and my other $30 rice cooker . My $30 rice cooker was as fast as the quick-cook setting this zojirushi has . If you have the time , I recommend using the normal cooking time for white rice . Or , you can set it on a timer to have the rice ready at whatever time you input . Also , to the people who said it overflowed or turned out dry . . . remember that you MUST use the rice cup that was INCLUDED with the cooker . 1 rice cup is different and smaller than a 1 U.S . cup . read below : Each rice cooker typically comes with the cup that should be used for measuring rice for that particular cooker . The graduations on the bowl for adding water rely on using that particular measuring cup . The rice cooker cups can vary in size , but are typically 180 ml , which is the size of a traditional Japanese cup ( g ) . Note that this cup is not the same size as the customary 8 fl oz cup ( about 237 ml ) which is used for cooking in the United States . hope that helped ! if you are on the fence between this and the $30 one . . . pay the extra because it's really worth it in quality of rice .
      • 122 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) Reviews are true , this cooker makes fine rice .
      • 125 4  Recently remarried , my new spouse and I each had rice pots and could not agree on how to consolidate duplicate small appliances into our small kitchen . For example , we each had a rice pot , and did not have room or need for both . My husband found the Zojirushi LAC05 and we were able to solve our multi rice pot delimna by replacing both pots with this new one . Although I was initially skeptical , it turned out to be a really good choice ! The LAC05 does not spit or spatter at all - it is completely self contained and has only a steam release . The internal cooking bowl is engaraved with cooking measurements , and is coated ; washes up easily with no sticking . Clean the outside with damp cloth . It has a small , contained footprint - it is compact and has no external dust catchers . It also sings - plays different tunes for start up and ! ready now , come eat ! . Has a warmer that also lets you know it is STILL on . It has different settings for white , brown , mixed rices , also does porridge ( e.g . oatmeal . ) We sometimes cook lentils or seaweed with our rice and it handles all that on the mixed setting . The Zojirushi LAC05 model makes 3 cups and it is fine for the two of us . For a few $ $ more you can get a 5.5 cup size ( I assume you can make less than a full pot ) . Only drawback at all ( if it is one ) is that it is not fast . Different rices take different times of course , but the point is , this cooker takes about the same time as stovetop , does not reduce cooking time . But with the preset timer options , time is not a factor if you can plan ahead . I would recommend this product to anyone ! It is far superior to any of the other rice cookers that either of us have used over the years . You may think the price is a bit steep for a rice cooker , but do not be detered , it is worth the price many times over in convenience , reduced clean up and perfect rice every time !
      • 127 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I gave my adult children these Zojirushi rice cookers for Christmas gifts last year . Yesterday - - while doing some holiday shopping for this year - - both of them commented about how much they love the cookers . They are very impressed with how good the rice always turns out and how easy it is to clean the interior bowl .
      • 130 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I recently purchased this very rice cooker . With as much Hanmi steamed rice that I eat , I easily justified the expense . Incidentally , I found the lowest price right here at Amazon.com - simply couldn't beat it ! This unit is one amazing little computerized cooker . I didn't think it would be possible to have the restaurant quality rice at home . On my first try , the rice was even better than that ! What a delight to have it come out so beautifully cooked and ready to be served . I simply cannot emphasize how pleased and impressed I am with Zojirushi . Simply the BEST ! • 133 4  Great , it lives up to all the excellent reviews . I had used a Zojirushi rice cooker in a rental condo in Hawaii . I was reluctant to buy one because it is expensive . My husband wanted it so I bought it for his birthday . It has been worth the investment . We have used it for rice , oatmeal ( set it up to be ready in the morning when you wake-up ) , and wheat berries . You have to adjust the water for other applications but everything turns out delicious . Wheat berries and steel cut oatmeal turn out almost like tapioca with a moist berries that pops in your mouth when you bite them .
      • 134 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) This little rice cooker is the best rice cooker I have ever used . The little music tunes when it starts and finished make all the girls smile and the rice comes out perfect everytime . The fuzzy logic timer lets you plans meals on point and the pressurized lid keeps it moist and hot until you want it .
      • 137 4  I've used it 20 times , the white rice came out perfect everytime . Super simple to use and Clean up is a breeze . Great product .
      • 138 4  So i researched this thing for like a decade before finally pulling the trigger . I have to say i am completely satisfied and then some . I initially cringed at the idea of spending over $100 on a rice cooker but this was far and away worth it . I actually like it so much , I bought a second zojirushi , the induction model ( GBC05 ) to see if it does any better on grains since i've heard mixed results . The LAC05 is damn near perfect anyhow and i don't know if ill notice much difference , but im gonna give it to my girlfriend since she liked it too and it was a convenient excuse to upgrade : ) I'll let you guys know on that one too . So far things i have made succesfully with the cooker include : sushi rice ( made great sushi with it ) , brown rice ( comes out very well but can be slightly mushy when i set the timer overnight probably due to the long soak time , though some prefer this consistency ) , jasmine rice was superb , and steel cut oats came out great too ( i used 3 / 1 ratio with water ) . So if you want to make various kinds of rice to perfection or near perfection , just suck up the price loss and think of it as a one time investment that will yield a very high return .
      • 139 4  I have been using the Zojirushi 3 - Cup rice cooker for nearly one month and could not be more happy with it . The quality of the machine is excellent . I am an excellent cook but have never been able to make rice on the stove top that is as perfectly cooked . I originally purchased this machine for the convenience factor . After burning my rice several times recently because I was multi-tasking and not watching closely enough , I decided to purchase a rice cooker so that I could set it and leave . The timer is an added bonus , especially for making steel cut oatmeal for breakfast . Just set the timer and it's ready when you wake up . It's a little more expensive than other models , but the quality of the machine makes it a good value .
      • 143 4  For the price , this is a beautiful rice cooker . The pictures really don't do it justice . It is very well made and solid . I've made great wild and brown rice with it . For this , the only drawback is time . It takes over an hour for brown rice . It was perfect , I just wish I knew how long it took before I started dinner ! My daughter and I got this one together and she loves it . She says it's her rice cooker . I'm looking forward to making a few of the other recipes , for things like oatmeal , and other time sensitive dishes .
      • 145 4  Small and extremely easy to use , it cooks rice with excellent results . It is a very good investment , the Zojirushi will last forever !
      • 148 4  Freaking Engrish instructions do not explicitly tell you how to cook rice . They don't even imply it . They do not say add rice to the bowl , then add water to the indicated level on the bowl . It took me three batches of rice before I figured it out . I was filling up the bowl with water to the indicated mark , then adding rice . Way too much water . After making rice pudding several times , adding less and less water each time , I finally figured out you were supposed to add the rice to the bowl , then add the water to the indicated mark . Now that I have figured that out , it seems to be doing a good job .
      • 150 4  I am Japanese so I make white rice every day . If you are very picky about rice like me and make rice for one or two every day , this is definitely a great candidate for you to consider . If you don't eat rice so often , then honestly I think other inexpensive rice cookers should do . I bought this rice cooker in May because I was so sick of my older Panasonice cheap rice cooker . Although the panasonic one cooked decent rice , at least decent enough for me to not consider buying a new one for 2 years , the non-stick coating was peeling off and getting so flaky as I used for over 2 years on a daily basis . Also , it could not keep the rice warm so having to cook rice right before serving it was very inconvenient in terms of time-management . So I decided to buy a nice rice cooker . Zojirushi is one of the most reputated and popular rice cooker manufactures in Japan and in fact , my family has a nice rice cooker from Zojirushi in Japan too . I was a little skeptical about the performance of the US versions of their rice cookers but at least for this particular model , this makes as good rice as the one my family has in Japan . Even cheap white rice comes out very moist and stickey with this cooker . It cooks any kind of rice perfectly . When I don't use the rice cooker for making rice , I can cook a side-dish in this . Along with the keep-warm function , the timer is very convenient , indispensable in my life and saves me a lot of time in preparing a meal in advance . The pot is very sturdy and the non-stick coating does not seem to peel off anytime soon at all . It is a reliable rice cooker overall . It was not cheap but it was definitely worth paying over $100 for .

More important , it helps making daily meal more balanced after I have this rice cooker . Thanks Amazon .
      • 155 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I've used quite a few rice cookers , and many of them have been pretty bad . They burn the rice , they don't cook evenly , they have other issues . This one is almost perfect . It's nice and small , so you don't end up making too much rice . The controls are easy . It cooks the rice very nicely . The construction is top notch , especially the cooking bowl . It's also awesome how they have the measurements right in the bowl , so you don't have to look up how much water to use every time . It also plays cute music , which you can configure . The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't show you how much time is left to cook until it gets near the end . I guess that's because the fuzzy logic figures out when the rice is ready .

      • 157 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) This is one of the best and most useful home appliances I have ever bought . LOVE IT !

      • 161 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) Excellent cooker for our requirements ( 2 - 4 people , timer , keep warm feature ) . Simple to use out of the box , 1st batch was OK , all subsequent batches perfect ( better rice rinsing procedure ) . Set it and forget it . Consistent results . Even when we're late it isn't . Should have purchased years ago .
      • 163 4  This is the second Zojirushi rice maker I bought , both exactly the same . We used the first one infrequently at home in NC to make white rice in a little over a half hour , brown rice in closer to an hour and a half . Although it worked perfectly , I did not begin to use it nearly every day until I discovered that I could download the lost instruction manual from the mfr to use the delayed cooking function , and more importantly that on the porridge setting it will make excellent Irish oatmeal from scratch using the preset instructions . Now , we use the preset buttons to have rice ready for dinner , and oatmeal reliably ready in the morning . Takes avge 30 seconds to set up , cooks uniformly , without ever boiling over . We bought another for our NYC pied a terre , now can plan and control breakfast at home . Just the right amounts for two people .
      • 164 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) This appliance does only two things - - it cooks rice , and it cooks Irish oatmeal .
      • 166 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) This little rice cooker works great .

      • 170 4  I absolutely love rice . But I am the only one in my household who eats it and I never took the time to cook on stovetop just for myself . The only time I would ever eat rice would be at a restaurant ( which is hardly ever ) . After reading all the favorable reviews I decided to splurge on myself and boy am I ever happy I did . Perfect - Perfect - Perfect every time . I have made white rice and steel cut oats and the results were awesome ! I just purchased some whole grain brown rice and can't wait to try it . I would like to thank all previous reviewers because the information contained is very valuable for a new user . Lots of good tips about rice and the machine itself . You cannot go wrong buying this product . Very good gift idea as well ! Update : Brown rice turned out great first try ! Clean up really is a breeze ! !
      • 171 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) The Zojirushi Micom 3 - cup rice cooker and warmer arrived a few days after being ordered from Warehouse Deals by Amazon . It appeared to be a new , unopened item . It had been discounted because of neglible damage to one of the corners of the outer box . The contents of the box were in perfect shape . I wouldn't hesitate to order from Warehouse Deals again . I love making steel cut oats in this cooker . Just add oats and water the night before , set the program for porridge , set the timer to when you want the oats to be ready the next morning , and wake up to perfectly-cooked oats . No more standing over the stove and constantly stirring to keep the oats from sticking ! This cooker also does a great job with other grains , including quinoa and hulled barley . I'm still trying to perfect brown rice . So far , it tends to come out a bit stickier than I would like , despite washing the rice thoroughly before cooking . I was skeptical about spending over $100 for a rice cooker , but after using it 2 or 3 times a week for the last month , I'm sold on the convenience . The cooker is well constructed , looks good for an electronic appliance , and takes up minimal space in my small kitchen . Highly recommended !

      • 173 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I never really thought of myself as someone who made rice a lot , but I always hated making it on the stove .

The rice comes out perfect each time , and it's extremely easy to clean . Note : I've found that I need to use less water than they call for , in order for the rice to come out the way I like it .

      • 183 4  I know it sounds kinda ew . . but whenever we get an upset stomach around here , white rice is what we serve . I used to make that quick cook minute rice . I thought it was really good until I made rice in the Zojirushi . No comparison . That and oatmeal . It even made brown rice taste really good . I bought it specifically for sushi rice , and it comes out perfect every time . It takes longer but it's well worth it . Clean up is a breeze ; a quick wipe down of the unit and warm soap and water for the bowl , and it's clean . Well worth the price .
      • 184 4  I had one of those cheap rice cookers I got at Target and the rice was never consistent . I invested in this rice cooker and I have tried , white ( Jasmine ) , brown , and wild and have gotten great results each time . My only complaint is similar to others . The instruction manual gives really no concrete information on how to measure your rice and water . Even when I thought I added to much or too little water , the rice has turned out . The cooker was easy to clean and easy to transport to various counters . Overall , I'm glad I made the investment .
      • 187 4  We have the larger version of this cooker , which cooks rice perfectly . What we like about this little one ( apart from the slick stainless steel looks ) is that for one meal for 2 - 4 people , it is just the right size . It cooks much faster , in part due to the smaller area for steam , etc to go . We love this product , and highly recommend it .
      • 188 4  This review is from : Zojirushi Micom 3 - Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer , Stainless Steel ( Kitchen ) I first bought a cheap-O cooker from Target and it was junk . Burned the first batch of rice . Dropped it in the recycle bin and started my research and even thought the price was far more than what I had paid for the cheap-O from Target , I absolutely do not regret it . Perfect brown rice ever time . . . Well worth the price .
      • 190 4  My wife and I have been very happy with this rice cooker . We frequently cook brown rice with it , and there is just no comparison to the messy inconsistent stove-top method . We cook 1 1 / 2 cups each time ( which seems to be the optimal amount ) and get restaurant quality rice ! We have also used this rice cooker to cook quinoa ( for which it works very nicely , just using the white rice setting ) . It doesn't work as well , in my experience , for porrige or oatmeal - which we continue to cook on the stove . Regardless , we have found this an invaluable addition to our kitchen appliance arsenal . I highly recommend it .

      • 194 4  The Zojirushi rice cooker works very well . The book that comes with it is ok for starting to use the machine but the recipes are worthless . It makes good sense to buy the Ultimate rice cooker cookbook by Beth Hensperger . This book tells the new owner everything they need to use the cooker like a pro . We are pleased we bought the cooker and are making new recipes daily . We are eating more rice in 2 weekes than we ate in a year before . One thing I haven't seen commented on in other reviews is how inexpensive these recipes are to make . We have the 3 cup model and it works ok for the two of us but if I had to do it over again I would buy the 6 cup model . Its no more expensive on the internet and most of the recipes are for the 6 cup model . It would avoid having to break the recipe ingredients down the the 3 cup model .
