Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom (Black)

  • * extremely portable , and great form factor ( far superior to the Flip , IMO ) ; a very comfortable and natural way to aim & shoot . * nice big screen and intuitive user controls . Aim the camera and push the big record button . * SD card storage : cheap and compatible across different brand devices . I can carry extra cards that will work in either this camera or my Canon point & shoot . On a 16GB card , you can store just under 4 hours of HD ( 720p ) footage . * File format ( MPEG4 ) is easy to work with on a PC or a Mac . On a PC , I use Quicktime for playback . If you need to convert to another format ( DVD , etc ) , I highly recommend the freeware program WinFF ( [ . . . ] ) , which is based upon FFMPEG . Use this version : winff042 - ffmpeg-r13712 for best results . * CMOS image sensor . For a camera with this price , the video quality is very good , especially in well-lit scenes . * 5X optical zoom is much better than the Flip's 2X digital zoom . This allows you to zoom in on your kid at the school program , for example . * This camera has image stabilization , where the Flip does not . As mentioned in another review , this may slightly degrade the image quality . For me , at least , some stabilization is necessary to make watching the video a tolerable experience . * Very easy to review recorded footage ( especially compared to mini-DV ! ) . The sizable screen is nice for this . What I don't like about the camera * proprietary USB cable . For file transfer , I recommend getting a SD card reader like this one : Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6 - S5W . * Battery life is decent , but not great . You need to open the camera and remove the battery to charge it ( for example , as far as I know you can't record with the camera plugged in to an outlet ) . * menu interface is not entirely intuitive , and I had to read the manual ( the horror ! ) to adjust some settings . I realize this is a lame complaint . * Somewhat noisy video in low-light scenes . This camera likes light ! Some of the noise may be reduced by adjusting some of the camera settings ( as described in another review ) . * I'm worried that the SD card cover will eventually break off , because the plastic material holding it to the camera seems cheap ( ? ) . In summary , don't expect the performance of a $1000 HD camera , but you can expect a portable , thoughtfully designed camera with lots of features and good image quality at a very good price . Included in the box : camera , manual , quick start guide , lens cover with strap , battery and charger , USB cable for computer connection , RCA cable for television connection .

  • 024 4  Last spring , I purchased an Aiptek HD720P camcorder for a trip to Singapore and Bali ; it was adequate but what a shame I did not buy the Sanyo VC-CG10 . Both camcorders will fit into a pocket and that was a must . Every feature is better on the Sanyo . The Sanyo's buttons are easy to read / identify and are well located . The Monitor is larger , the menu is well laid out and easy to understand as is the 187 page manual . When zooming , the sound of the zoom is not picked up as it is by the Aiptek . Deleting pictures is twice as fast . I took the same picture with the Sanyo and my Panasonic DCM-FZ50 and I could not tell which was the better printed picture . The movie feature worked well from a moving car to pictures on the Florida Intracoastal Waterway . They have been made into very adequate movies on my iMAC . I have read hundreds of reviews on pocket size camcorders and the reviews on this Sanyo convinced me to purchase the Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) . This is not a comparison to a $300 + camera which I have not used ; it is far more camera than I expected for $150.00 .
    • 042 4  I purchased this camcorder to film family and special events . I wanted something that was portable and relatively easy to use and this fits the bill ! This is my first camcorder . I couldn't exactly use it right out of the box , hence the 4 star rating instead of 5 . I had to read the manual a bit to figure out the menu options . I am technically challenged so it took me about 30 minutes to get the hang of it . I played around with a few of the features before I shot a video . Once I got the hang of it , it is very easy to use . I just open the viewer ( camcorder comes on automatically ) and press the red button to record video . The picture quality is slightly grainy at times , but generally clear ; the volume is very good . Zooming and playback are easy ; deleting video / pictures is also easy to do . I also used the camera feature to snap some photos . I haven't set up the camera settings , yet , because I plan to use this primarily as a camcorder . Overall , I am pleased with the usability and quality of this camcorder .
    • 094 4  I've seen better , I've seen worst , Zoom Fair , Picture quality OK , Sound Quality OK . Poor in low light . . . . . . . Good buy for a low end camera ( $150 ) So I think I got what I paid for , no complaints , but maybe next time I'll spend a little more .

  • 030 4  I bought this camera to take video on a trip to Europe and it was super easy to use . I like the ability of taking pictures while recording video . Its so easy to use , easy to carry around ( fits in my back / front pocket ) and the battery life is awesome . With normal recordings i could go about a full day without having to recharge . The video quality is awesome . Pictures are good but not as crisp as i'd like . I am being unfair in comparison bc i have an SLR which takes awesome pictures . I like the idea of not having to carry a camcorder and a camera so this does it all . Some of my friends saw it and now they want one too . I would recommend this to a friend or anyone else looking for one .
    • 017 4  i received my new cg10 from sanyo today . i have read alot about it before bying it , so setting it up was a blaze . i have already tried it indoor and outdoor , . . waht a beauty . to think this small machine packs all these features ina small handy pistol shape handle is unbeleivable . here is what i like about it 1 . easy set up , very intuitve , have not read the full manual included yet . 2 . beuatiful , vivid colors , 3 inches screen . 3 . full hd in 720 filming , the pictures are amazing . 4 . the zoom is smooth and is optical and very clear . 5 . few have complained about image stabilization , i however find it very stable as long you do not have essential tremors or parkinson's disease , . . . the picture is fairly steady and i reviewed my films on my compter w / o any problems or needing some meclizine for dizziness after worth . 5 . the stil photos you can take while filming and are quite good quality . it is capable of 12 mp resolution , i loved the pics quiality 6 . multiple bells and whistles in the programing appeases the most demanding of users . 7 . battery , very light and charged fully in 2 h or less . 8 . placement of the sd card and the battery , are very easily accesible , and the cover is attached to the body of the camera so won't be lost . 9 . color and shape , really nice and appealing . 10 . fits in my pocket , . . i am now a real light traveler , w / o the bags of cameras or camcorders weighing me down . 11 . inside picture quality is very acceptable , with automatic flash also . 12 . bought 2 replacement , rechargeable batteries from ebay , at 9.99 free shipping , . . . ! ! ! ! from hong kong , . . . love global economy , . . ! 13 . has an attachable lens cap , easy to instal . people who complained about how to do it are really challenged manually , . . just use your logic , & it comes together , eureka , . . . ! ! ! 14 . usb cable to computer so you will not have to remove the sd card to see your recording . 15 . included av cords to watch on home tv screen . 16 . price : 189 from [ . . . ] , . . free shipping . 17 . screen is rotating and adjustable , can see also in full sunlight , . . . not bad at all . 18 . microphoine is very clear and not a lot of noise , . . . 19 . finally , all in all exellent features , easy to figure out and maintain , user friendly , and best bang for the buck . I hope to add some movies later on to demonstrate the abilities and picture quality of this little gem . Paul
    • 028 4  I really like the ease of use of this camera . Everything about this relatively inexpensive camera is great . I previously owned one with a metal housing and liked the feel of it better ( albeit heavier ) . All in all a nice , inexpensive camera .
    • 034 4  I got this camera for my boyfriend and he love's it we use it all the time . we are both Entertainers so we do record alot in the theather with crazy light and doring rehersal with very low lights and it always works never falt . I have use is few times as well and its very easy in use very light the batary life is good.I do recomend to get 16 Gb memory card . Highly Recomend ! For this price and a small video camera like this its all you need .
    • 068 4  I took the Xacti on my backpacking trip through Connecticut on the Appalachain Trail the first week of May . We had hot and humid weather and lots of rain . The camera was easy to use . I kept it in a pocket on my shoulder strap so I could easily get it out . The video was clear and crisp . The still pictures were great . When I got home , I edited the video and made a movie using both the video and the still pictures . This camera is so easy to use - even me - a 60 something woman - could use it . I would recommend this to anyone who normally uses a simple digital camera - now you can add video and dazzle your friends .
    • 070 4  There are so many pluses to this product . it is important to note that I never owned a video camera or still camera before ( except for a cellphone ) , but I really could not expect more from this camera . It is extremely easy to use , it turns on really fast and is ready to shoot . The video is really clear , but some of my still pics come out blurry . Maybe i have to mess around with the settings , but it seems like you have to keep your hands really steady and wait like 2 full seconds after hearing the picture snap . It's very portable and sleek looking . I gave mine to my mom for mother's day , but plan on buying another for myself .
    • 085 4  An excellent go between for a camera and video recorder . Picture quality is very nice .
    • 092 4  I got this camcorder because both of my brothers had it and loved . So far I love mine too . Easy to take wherever we go though we have not yet found a case to fit it ( haven't tried too hard yet though ) iI just put it in my purse . great picture
    • 116 4  good videos in HD for a camera like this , the 5x optical zoom is a deal-maker . Love the form factor . . . it's ideal for me . I bought it to take videos from a Pixies concert and eventually the security people in there didn't allow me to do that . . . but in the process everyone of them ( the security guys ) was asking me where I get my fancy camera hehe
    • 143 4  Great product . Easy to use , very compact . Takes clear vido . Love the fact that you can up load to tv or computer . Husband likes that in fits in pocket don't need a camcorder bag .
    • 145 4  I have a Canon G9 which is an excellent still camera , but I thought it was only a so-so video camera . So I thought I'd try this Sanyo . Oops . The color is washed out . Panning the camcorder produces this weird ripply effect ( as if I am projecting onto a sheet and someone is shaking the sheet ) . I was not at all impressed by the low light behavior . I'd much rather just stick with my G9 .
    • 148 4  I am writing this review based on my usage of digital cameras and camcorders for the past few years now and I have compared this with Panasonic Lumix 10x zoom camera which has 10MP photo and 480P video capability . I am returning Xacti because my Pan works lot better than this , the picture and video both are lot better than Xacti and works lot better than this in Xacti low light also . I tried the Xacti in several settings and optimize the performance for the light settings , indoors and outdoors etc . Pros : Stylish , Sleek , Pocketable , light and easy to use . Cons : Not for low light usage , Complicated to change basic settings , When picture is taken screen flickers couple of times and is confusing , battery life is around little over an hour with video and photo shooting , flash is not powerful enough . This camera is not definitely for the pros meaning who knows what a 720P quality is and who knows what a 10 MP picture should actually deliver . However this is good for people who wants a quick videos and photos for you tube and blogs but not good for indoor / low light though . I am returning this for not standing up to the specs provided by the manufacturer .
    • 157 4  I wrote a prior review under P.A . Robin . This is the continuation . . . I finally got home after a long trip and couldn't wait to transfer my footage to DVD . Well , needless to say , the results are less than spectacular . What looks great on a laptop monitor really loses all clarity when transfered to DVD and played on a 46 TV . Maybe its the size of the TV , but I really thought an HD camera would produce video that played in HD on an HD TV . I don't know if its the fact that this camera is only 720 and not 1080 or what , but I'm really disappointed in the image that projects on my big screen TV .
    • 160 4  Received camcorder today . Nonstandard battery was faulty and had to be replaced . Local battery store had nothing . Local camera shops had none . Person on Sanyo customer service said I had to mail back the faulty battery to them where it will be tested . I hope they don't just send a coupon . Why don't these companies use some sort of standardized battery ? ( ans : greed )

  • 031 4  This camera is a very good product for the money , based on all the reviews out there I would say they are all on the money , the camera is everything I expected and didn't expect . HOwever I didn't notice any negative remarks about the software for downloading , it's aweful , I'm still trying to find a compatible 3rd party product that is intuitive enough to pick up on when my device is connected . The orginal software does't even do it so I don't know how a 3rd party software will . I'm stumped . other than that it's a great camera .
    • 026 4  For the type of camera / camcorder this is I highly recommend this . Quality is not picture perfect , but I love it .
    • 127 4  A good quality camcorder . Had some issues getting videos on the computer initially , but it wasn't long before we were watching our home movies ! Do not buy for its picture taking abilities as they are not superb . I would highly recommend this over others I have seen .

  • 036 4  I love this camera . Very portable , and great quality video and pictures . Sanyo VPC-CG10 has ALOT of features . Screen Recorder , webcam , camera , and video recorder . The software on the camera allows you to edit videos without even plugging it into the computer . Cut what ever you want out of the video . The bettary life is pretty good . I have also noticed that in the Pictures options , it goes past 10m , and says 12m , i am not sure if that stands for 12 megapixels , but it is a very big picture when set on 12m . If you do purchase this camera , make sure you get the biggest memory card available ! Great for youtube videos . Great sound quality also . The video and image stabilizer work well . However , there is a few things this camera lacks . The camera does not have a socket so that you can power it from the wall . The usb port on the camera lies at the bottom , right next to the hole that you use for a tripod . There is no way to use this camera as a webcam , and put it on a tripod at the same time . And as you can see by the shape of it , it does not stand upright on its own . Also , as my friend pointed out to me when holding the camera , it is NOT made for LEFT HANDED people . The camera is made for right handed people . So you may face some difficulties when holding the camera . I would do a video review , but this is the only camera i own at the moment , so there would be no way for you to see the camera .
    • 072 4  I read all of the reviews for the Sanyo VPC-CG10 and although there are a few things that could be better for the pricing there is no better product in this class . I have taken both still pictures and hi-def video and to average photographer the quality is just fine . Home movies , graduations , whatever you need it for it just works . If you want professional grade this isn't your camera but for the average Joe it works great and the price can't be beat .
    • 118 4  Overall , I like it . Shooting in not so well let areas indoor is really not that great . Lack of ease of support to upload to YouTube is non-existent . I like the point and shoot effect and the HD recording . At this price , I would buy another for someone , but I would also get very good / decent video editing software if they did not have a Mac as well as a $50 memory card so that I have a lot of time recording . The built in memory sucks . If you have to buy memory , go for as much as possible . You won't regret it .

  • 040 4  Camcorder might have been great BUT it can record only 45 minutes on a fully charged battery . The DC power adapter mentioned in the manual was not released in the USA and could not be found outside the USA . Interrupting a recording to swap the battery is unacceptable for our use . Also discovered that not being able to set the camcorder on a table and record was annoying ; must always use a tripod when not holding the camera .
    • 136 4  The only real bad thing is that it doesn't work well in low light situations . Another thing is you might want to consider getting a tripod at the same time . The shape makes it so you can't set it down upright .

  • 081 4  It works well but in low light it terrible , and the video becomes very filled with particles . Would recommend if camera is being used mostly for natural and a lot of light area , the pictures are alright , but the battery life is CRAP , you NEED to buy a battery for this camera if you want to record for more then 10 mins without killing the camera .
    • 090 4  I was very pleased with the unit when I purchased it . Worked right out of box with out any reading of the manual . I need to go back and hack on it some so the settings are better quality but I am very pleased with the item .
    • 110 4  Has some quirks and required settings changes which are addressed by other reviewers already . That said , it has incredible bang for the buck !

  • 086 4  My wife purchased this for me for Christmas , and it's my favorite camera and my favorite camcorder ever . Aside from the video recording mode on various digital cameras , this is the 1st totally solid state video recording device we've ever had , and what a pleasant change . Of course it's really nice to get some HD video for our new 73 TV , but there are a number of other things about this that make it particularly nice . My presbyopia ( the eye condition that starts after middle age that makes you look for sales on reading glasses , and stash a pair everywhere you go or sit so that you can see things within arm's reach ) continues to progress , and is particularly annoying with teensy devices with teensy screens and a dozen teensy identical buttons all arranged in a row . The controls on this device can all be operated with the thumb , and since they're all shaped differently and placed in a logical fashion , there's no real need to read the small icons or text . One button ( white ) takes a still picture , and another button ( red ) takes video - there's no mode-changing switch , no selections from the configuration menu , just press the button you want . For such a small device , the screen is a decent size , and it rotates around so that you can frame a shot while being the subject ( great for my wife and I who often take a picture of ourselves without someone else to take the picture and without having to carry around a tripod ) . Though slightly bulky for the pocket , I have , on a few occasions carried it in my front jeans pocket without significant discomfort - better than most of our digital cameras . A small case that attaches to my belt works great , though . I love the grip combined with the swivel screen - much more natural than the typical two-handed operation for standard digital cameras . Initial startup is slightly slower than our 7 megapixel Canon , but I gladly trade that for the other benefits . Proprietary battery needs to be removed to be charged - slightly inconvenient . Overall - I love it - it's a great life recording device . Thanks Sweetie !
    • 059 4  I've been looking for a flash video camera to replace my old mini dv camera . This camera really gives good quality video and pics . The only con that I have is the battery life . Most of the flash memory camera does not have optical zoom only digital . Sanyo CG10 has 5x optical it works great . I almost bought the Kodak ZX1 but I'm so happy that I didn't this camera is better than the kodak ZX1 . My six year old loves the camera because it's easy to use . I definitely recommend the sanyo CG10 .
    • 096 4  One of the things I've not seen talked about is audio quality , I film local bands and I can honestly say that this camera lets me move around all I want and get excellent audio . I also don't seem to have the issue of low light being a problem , the places I go are very dark and even though the video display may show some graininess and lines it seems to clear up when I upload it to YouTube . The short battery life is the biggest problem , but they are cheap to buy on the Internet . If you need some examples search YouTube for localbandreview some videos are taken using the High Sensitivity setting and appear grainy , but the others especially the Big Floppy Disk ones came out perfect . I use Nero Vision to Title and convert them to . WMV so I can display them on my Plasma TV at 720p using Window Media Center and an Extender . Even as MP4s they display fine on my 28 1080p Monitor downstairs so I don't understand why people are saying they are getting bad videos with this camera . Like I said the audio for me is the main selling point of this camera , so you may have different needs .
    • 122 4  very good quality , especially outdoors , but also more than fair for indoor videos ( mostly to shoot videos of my sons playing , etc )

  • 098 4  I owned an Xacti C6 and loved it more than this new one . The biggest complaint I have is that I LOVED the fact that there was a base that you could just drop the entire camera into for charging ! Other than that this new version is good . I do wish Sanyo would add a LED light bulb into the flash . The pictures are ok inside but could be great with the right lighting . Outside the pictures are fantastic ! Video is great ! Sound picks up well . I love , love , love this camera as a whole for a budget camera offering great everyday pictures . I'm sure it has the capabilities to do even better things I am just not a photographer and I'm not sure how to maximize it's other functions .
    • 106 4  This camera has is very portable . It's has everything I wanted . SDHC Card compatibility , HD recording and portability . However this camera is terrible in low light and if you move the slightest bit you can see it in the recorded video . Stabilization is a joke . If only this camera could do low light better I might have overlooked the stabilizing issues . This will be used for my kids to make school projects with and other non-important videos .
    • 138 4  I wish I could tell you about the camera however when mine was shipped it was lost somewhere along the way . However I did get a full refund . This took a little time but only due to the holidays .

  • 114 4  As I leran how to use the Dual Camera , it does what it says it does . If you need a camera for home use , this is the camera for you . I used it this Christmas for family gathers . Both the still pictures and the video pictures are excellant . There are features I still need to learn about . The menu is easy to use . The instuction book is easy to read and under stand . I brought a flash memory card of 8 GB . This has worked for well . I have not filled it up . I have shot a lot of video along with still pictures . The battery life is long lasting . The internal memory is very small . Its size is great . You can take it every where . I can put it in my pocket and am ready to go . If you remember the large video tape cameras , this is so much nicer .
    • 021 4  We picked up the red model at Radio Shack on a one day special for $149 . Coupled with a Transcend 16GB SDHC card it is perfect for throwing in the diaper bag and recording all those wonderful moments of our new baby . We also got 2 extra batteries from eBay for $10 . Easy to use and it lives up to what it is . If you want to shoot a Hollywood HD movie with this , forget it , but if you want to capture those family moments , perfect . Does need good lighting in the house , outside is exceptional video quality . The wind screen filter works perfect on windy days . Highly recommend !
    • 056 4  I bought this camcorder / camera as an upgrade for our summer vacation . It worked great ! The video and image quality is excellent especially the HD video . We also really apprecated the 16 : 9 pictures for all the landscape views . Several of the other reviews complained about the battery life . I found it to be most satisfactory only having to recharge every other day . It is good for 1 hour of video .
    • 099 4  For the price , it is a good product . It is great for home videos and also serves as a photographic camera . Two problems I had : for a video camera advertised as HD , the quality of the image is not good enough ; and the battery discharges way too fast !
    • 105 4  Product fits perfectly in one hand , is light and easy to use . This is for capturing those little moments when they happen . Battery life is great . I am very glad it uses the memory cards . . . lots of storage and you can pop another in if needed . It also has a zoom feature the other ' leading ' product does not .

  • 134 4  I've been dying to find a single camera which takes great video , great stills , is designed well , and is small enough to fit in your pocket . Based on extensive research , I thought the CG10 would meet those criteria . Upon spending a week with the camera , it hits upon some of those requirements but it's terrible video performance cancels everything else out . While I didn't expect professional-level HD video from a pocket camcorder , I did expect it to at least out perform the video performance of my 2 year old Canon 7 megapixel still camera ( PowerShot SD1000 ) . While the Xacti's video is bigger , it's slow autofocus , fuzzy video images , and inaccurate color rendering make my still camera a better video performer . The Xacti's video looks lame even in footage taken outside sunlight . It's disappointing because the camera design is simply incredible . The stills look OK although they don't surpass my Canon . The look and feel of the Xacti are great and I sure hope Sanyo can fix the video issues . One big design gripe I thought I could live with but turns out to be a huge pain is the removable lens cap . It's flimsy , difficult to attach , and VERY easy to misplace .
    • 052 4  Bought this to replace Sony hi - 8 . I knew Hard drive and mini DV were not the future . This is.Ten days in Maine Fall foliage and the coast and the video is amazing . Train yourself to adapt to the pistol grip and viewing the monitor as you shoot and you will take this puppy everywhere by just dropping it in your pocket . Playback in slideshow video mode does not flow continuously like tape . It holds your final shot for a second and then flows into the next scene . The payback is that you can delete scenes and find specific scenes to view individually . If there is anything better at anywhere near the price , I can't find it and now I don't care .
    • 053 4  I was actually quite surprised by this camera . It is small , light , and actually works surprisingly well . Like many other reviewers on here , I am quite disappointed with how the shake elimination works . Or , in this case , does not work . If you turn it on the image becomes VERY wavy . I found that turning it off results in much better video even when you are holding it in your hand . If you have a shake problem , buy a tripod or monopod . The camera itself produces pretty good video . No , it does not look like something shot for some BBC nature video , but it is really really good .
    • 055 4  I purchased this camera for for videos of my family and it is absolutely great . It is easy to use and slips right into your pocket . Can't beat it for the price . I had researched this camera and found helpful hints for better videos and used them . Now for the cons : 1 . Don't walk and take video as it will jump all around . 2 . The pictures are okay if you are going to add them to your video but I wouldin't use it in place of a camera . 3 . No where did I pick up on the fact that while you can use it with Windows Vista it doesn't reconize the Sanyo file extension . You can't play your clips on Windows Media Player and you can't use the Windows Movie Maker . The clips are downloadable but you can't see a picture of the clip . 4 . Sanyo claims to have software that works with the camera but it is no longer available . Good news is : 1 . You can play your clips on Quick Time . 2 . If you have Photoshop Elements 6 and probably the newer version , you can see your clips and play your clips . 3 . Corel Video Studio ProX works with the Sanyo file . With the Corel program can convert your clips to a Windows file format and they will work in the Windows Media Player . There are probably other programs that will work with the Sanyo file but this is what worked for me . It was really frustrating at first but I'm still glad I bought the camera .
    • 130 4  It's just OK . If you don't want to spend too much on your new camcorder , Sanyo VPC-CG10 is the ideal choice . Minus one star for the comparatively weak zoom .

  • 149 4  bigger than i thought ; it can NOT fit in my pocket . i like the fact that the screen is really big . i like the fact that you can take both video and movie . it is super easy to use , i like the simple menu feature . the picture quality is NOT good . it keeps getting these lines across the screen . the lens cap is annoying , while it cannot get lost , it is annoying to put on and while taking a video it just dangles . bottom line is i am returning for a canon SD780 IS camera for $199 on amazon . it is not a camcorder , but shoots in 720p HD and takes 12.1 megapixel photos . it is TINY . i saw it in office depot and loved it . it has a good optical image stabilizer , while the sanyo only has a bad digital stablizer . i would not recomend this product
    • 023 4  I found this product one day at best buy , but they actually did not have any so i went on here , found it for a cheaper price , i recommend getting it from JR the best service i had in many years of online shopping , total was 179.99 and i got it in 2 days . When i first opened the package , it was a little smaller than i expected , very pocketable but i have a nice carrying bag , so i use that with a shoulder strap , any ways i did do a check of the camera on the outside , i loved the glossy black finish , but a finger print magnet , but i usually clean my cameras with a nice microfiber , now it comes with a lens cap , it comes with a cord , please use the cord because the lens cap is so small , you will loose it , and that is the most important piece of the whole darn machine . I charged up the battery and first thing i did is went to a park , and took some test videos and photos at 10 mp which is the highest quality , they have a 12 mp but it is digital enhance , which actually makes the rest of the pixels that were added on , look a little odd , so please put it at 10mp , the default setting . Now i did use the functionality of the full manual camera , which is hard to find on any decent full sized camcorder for under 600 - 700 dollars , nice little bonus their , now i do not want you to mess with them , if you do not know what you are doing , the only thing is probably ISO i put it at 100 , its pretty universal on most things , except darkness . But auto will want to brighten it up by putting the iso all the way up which will have so much noise , but after i got home the video looks amazing , something off a 600 - 700 dollar camera at the 720p settings , mics are wonderful , and the zoom is nice to have . The pictures are wonderful too , Sanyo ` s nice statement : It ` s not just a camcorder , ITS A DUAL CAMERA . That is exactly true sanyo , they get a pat on the back for making a great product for so little coin . AMAZING .

  • LOTS of really nice features - Compact pistol-grip design that's comfortable to hold - Large , easy to view 3 LCD screen with rigid plastic screen to protect it - Uses SD / SDHC memory cards up to 32GB - Stereo audio - Standard h .264 / AAC codecs compatible with Apple's iMovie ' 09 - 5X optical zoom , able to change zoom range while recording - Focus auto-adjusts while recording ( not all cameras do this ) - Ability to take decent 10MP still shots without having to switch modes - Has a flash for still pictures - Easy to navigate menu system with customizable shortcuts accessed by the joystick - Easy to operate joystick with positive click feedback that doesn't intrude while recording - Manual adjustments ( full manual , shutter priority , aperture priority , noise reduction , auto-focus mode , exposure measure mode , etc . ) - Comes with a lens cap to protect the lens - Tally light is on the top of the camera to the rear where the person holding the camera can see it and not where it's distracting to the person being recorded ( VERY important when recording small children ) - Easily accessible battery compartment / Battery cover is tethered by a plastic tab so it can't be easily lost - Standard tripod mount on the bottom CONs : Picture quality requires a lot of tweaking in the manual settings to make it decent . - Low light performance is poor even for this class of camcorder - Electronic stabilization tends to soften the picture , sometimes to the point of making it appear to be out of focus - Color saturation results in a visual pleasing picture but inaccurate color reproduction - Focus and Exposure reaction seems to be fairly slow as well - Proprietary USB / AV port ( I hate it when manufacturers eschew standard ports in favor or proprietary solutions . I'd rather have the camera be a little bigger to accommodate a mini-USB port as well as a mini-HDMI ) - Proprietary HD Component cable NOT included - SD slot cover seems a bit flimsy - Camera cannot be used as a live camera with Macs , only with Windows PCs - Camera draws power from battery when used in card reader mode instead of drawing power from USB Before I bought this camera , I did a lot of research on it , including viewing uploaded footage from this camera on Vimeo.com . Even though I've only had the camera two days , I've done a lot of testing with it . [ . . . ] Keep in mind that I'm not saying the MinoHD is the best camera out there , but it is certainly better in my experience overall . I simply compared the CG10 to the MinoHD , because the MinoHD is the incumbent . I gave the CG10 3 stars because I love all the features that Sanyo put into it , but the picture quality is such a disappointment . One of the major features is the electronic stabilization , and I found it to reduce the picture quality more than it improved it . I think that a camera's auto / program settings should produce a good basic picture that serves as the camera's baseline , and then any manual controls should serve to tailor that picture to your artistic needs or to make a good picture great . The Sanyo's auto / program settings produce a sub-standard picture that's soft to the extent that it looks out of focus , it suffers from serious motion blur , and in the end simply looks like widescreen standard definition . The manual settings only serve to make a bad picture look good if you can find the right settings for the shooting conditions . Having said that , I don't find this camera to be good for capturing those precious surprise moments that young children present us because you can't expect a good picture by simply pulling it out , turning it on , and starting shooting . I think Sanyo should spend some more time with improving their stabilization , 9 - pt auto-focus , and exposure measuring algorithms . Out of the box , it just doesn't perform , and the plethora of features simply cannot make up for that . UPDATE : I still stand by my initial assessment of the VPC-CG10 ' s picture quality , but after spending quite a bit of time playing with various settings , I believe I have found a good setup which probably should have been Sanyo's starting point in its auto / program modes . 1 ) Turn off the stabilization : While this helps a little bit in extreme tele situations , it actually seems to hurt picture quality otherwise , resulting in a blurry picture that appears out-of-focus . Turning off the stabilization does result in more shake and / or jitter , but the picture is quite a bit clearer . I personally do not believe that there is any decent alternative to optical image stabilization . They could drop this feature from the camera altogether , drop the price a little more , and then I would probably bump this camera up a star even . 2 ) Enable Single-Point AutoFocus : The 9 - point AF algorithm spends a good deal of time hunting , i.e . trying to find a focus point even when the camera is not moving . The single-point AF does a much better job of providing a clear focus . While still providing a softer picture than the MinoHD , it is a vast improvement over the 9 - point AF's performance . 3 ) Set Exposure to Aperture-priority with f = 3.5 : This is the camera's widest aperture setting and will let in the most light through the lens . It will then adjust the shutter speed as necessary to provide a decently exposed picture . Fine tuning can then be adjusted via the EV adjustment , which can be assigned to one of the joystick shortcut positions . With the above settings , I have been able to record some footage that I think is close to the MinoHD's quality , both in bright light and indoor lighting . If they either ditch the electronic stabilization altogether or replace it with optical IS , address the 9 - pt AF's poor focusing algorithm , and either lock the aperture at 3.5 or put in a faster lens , Sanyo would have a very impressive camera on their hands . One distinct advantage that the Xacti has over the MinoHD is its optics . At full wide angle , the Xacti has a much wider field of view than the MinoHD , whose fov is significantly narrower when compared even to its SD sibling , the FlipVideo Ultra . After using this camera for a couple weeks along with the MinoHD and Sony's DSC-T900 , I have to say that the Xacti VPC-CG10 is probably the best bang for the buck . I'd maybe bump up the rating by another star , but I don't think any of these pocket HD camcorders really deserve 5 . And yes , I kept the Xacti and sent the MinoHD and T900 back .
    • 001 4  I picked up one of these locally , intending to replace my MinoHD with it . This camera ended up being a disappointment to me . I really want to like it , but the reality is that the picture quality disappoints compared to the MinoHD . PROs : LOTS of really nice features - Compact pistol-grip design that's comfortable to hold - Large , easy to view 3 LCD screen with rigid plastic screen to protect it - Uses SD / SDHC memory cards up to 32GB - Stereo audio - Standard h .264 / AAC codecs compatible with Apple's iMovie ' 09 - 5X optical zoom , able to change zoom range while recording - Focus auto-adjusts while recording ( not all cameras do this ) - Ability to take decent 10MP still shots without having to switch modes - Has a flash for still pictures - Easy to navigate menu system with customizable shortcuts accessed by the joystick - Easy to operate joystick with positive click feedback that doesn't intrude while recording - Manual adjustments ( full manual , shutter priority , aperture priority , noise reduction , auto-focus mode , exposure measure mode , etc . ) - Comes with a lens cap to protect the lens - Tally light is on the top of the camera to the rear where the person holding the camera can see it and not where it's distracting to the person being recorded ( VERY important when recording small children ) - Easily accessible battery compartment / Battery cover is tethered by a plastic tab so it can't be easily lost - Standard tripod mount on the bottom CONs : Picture quality requires a lot of tweaking in the manual settings to make it decent . • 009 4  I searched for weeks and read scores of reviews of HD video cameras ( both compact styles and traditional styles ) before settling on this camera . Ultimately , the clinchers for me were two things : 1 ) the pistol grip ( much better design for controlling the stability of the camera than the design on Flip cameras , and much more comfortable , natural ) 2 ) perfect combination of features for me ( large LCD , decent zoom , HD quality , 10mp stills make carrying my digital still camera pointless , and , finally , * cool * factor ) . I'll say up front that I wasn't looking to become the next Spielberg with my new purchase , but I did want to be able to get a camera that impresses me and makes me feel like Spielberg whether I'm recording my kid's babbling , a vacation , or my dogs barking . : ) I am not one of the types of reviewers who tests all the features and settings of cameras - - some reviewers seem to have test labs set up in their homes - - but I do my homework and want the best mix of features I can find in a camera , so I search until I find that . I believe I've found that here . I am totally excited about this camera and haven't had one ounce of buyer's remorse since I got it a week ago . I am totally happy with this camera because the video quality is awesome - - better than any camcorder I've ever owned ( though this is the first one I've purchased in 7 years ; my last one was a Sony MiniDV digital , fyi ) , and it is just plain fun to use . I've shown it to geeky friends and they are impressed as well - - not to mention , they love the grip ! To respond to a few concerns raised by other reviewers : Yes , the SD card door is flimsy , but that weakness will simply make you handle your new toy more carefully . Not a deal breaker and I probably wouldn't have noticed had another reviewer not pointed it out before I bought mine . Just handle it with care . Stability / Shakiness : Not a problem for me as yet . I've mostly shot fun little videos around the house so far , and none have made me nauseated . In my humble opinion , avoiding the shakes is more a matter of common sense ( meaning , be a good camera-man / woman and you can minimize it ) ; this camera doesn't have a problem with this as many Flip-style cameras do . I'd say that the pistol grip style is the main reason for that because that grip helps you hold the camera in a stable , comfortable way . Soft Focus : haven't had a problem with that either . Again , I'm not in a labcoat testing for 100% accuracy , but , if you're a regular person with desire for nicer things like I am , you won't see any issues here either . Low light issues : I've recorded in dark-ish rooms of my house and , yes , the images come out kind of dark , but not darker than the room itself was when I was recording ! Again , not a concern for me . If I'm recording in low light , I expect that the image will not be as high quality as if I'm recording outside . Common sense . If I were spending $3K on a camera , this might bum me out , but not if I'm spending $200 . Main Pro's : Size , Size , Size : camera is small , LCD is big , resolution ( stills and video ) is great . Period . Price : Find a Flip-style or traditional style camera with this combination of features for under $200 . I don't think you can ( not yet anyway ) . Grip : Pistol grip is WAY more ergonomic , which means your fingers don't get tired holding it ( as they would with a Flip ) , your videos are more steady , and you get to feel like you're using your grandpa's Super8 from 1972 . So , it's just better . Lens cover : Who wants to spend money on a camera you can't protect from your own abuse ? Many competing models don't come with this basic feature . Only complaint : I wish Sanyo would make an AC adapter available ! They have a picture of one ( and how to use it ) in the Owners Manual along with a model # , but , alas , I've yet to find the actual product available for purchase anywhere in the U.S . I'm going to buy a second battery instead , but I'd much rather just be able to plug this thing into a wall when my battery dies and there's currently no such option . Just for fun : if you want it in Red , only Radio Shack carries that version and it does look pretty cool .
    • 012 4  I thoroughly tested this product , Xacti VPC-CG10 before writing this review . I got mine from RadioShack for $149 + tax . Here are my thoughts - PROS - 1 . Very comfortable grip 2 . Very intutive controls and user menu . 3 . Very good screen size . Screen folds for protection . 4 . 5x zoom is good enough for everyday shooting of kids , school , family events , picnics etc . Although it is not adiquate to record far away action . 5 . Records on SD or SDHC card upto 32 GB . 6 . Inexpensive replacement batteries and Sd / SDHC cards are widely available online . 7 . One cool feature I liked - You can ' freeze ' any frame while playing back a video clip on Xacti and ' save ' it as a still picture . So don't worry if you you forget taking a still shot while taking video . 8 . No noticabe hiss or wind noice while recording outdoors . CONS - 1 . No HDMI cable connection even after being an HD camcorder . Some HD TVs like our VIZIO do not have composite cable connection on side and it is a pain connecting composite cable on the back of the TV . I bought ' composite to HDMI ' converter box on eBay ( $65 ) . I connect this box to our VIZIO via HDMI cable and connect the Xacti to the box with the cable which came with this camera . 2 . The USB / AV connector on this camera is propriotary . You cannot use any other cables to connect this to HDTV or regular TV . You have to use the provided cable . 3 . Still pictures come out fine if you are steady like a rock and shooting in blazing light . Otherwise most of the still pics came out blurry . 4 . Significant delay in focusing while panning or while zooming in / out ( however clips come out fine after camera focuses ) All in all I found it to be a good camera in this price range . I was debating between this and flip HD . Preferred this one for folding big screen , choice of SD card recording and user changable battery . Thanks for reading my review .
    • 020 4  Overall , this video / camera is amazing . However , I must warn you I gave it a 4 star because the quality of the video under low lighting is not spectacular . Otherwise , The durability of the camera is great . However , the lens cap , sd card cover , and battery cover is rather delicate . When the camera has sufficient lighting , video quality is amazing . Pictures are great as well . Playback on this camera is great . The lcd screen is bright and detailed . There is not much lag time between the time you select a file and the time to play it . The interface is extremely easy to use and fast . The battery lasts about an hour too , but depending on how you use it , it is not that bad . The camera has a great powersaving mode . So when you close it , it automatically goes into powersave / sleep mode . Therefore , when you need it you can open it back up and it will power on in about 3 to 4 seconds , therefore you never miss a moment : ] You do have to get used to holding the camera . It is a pistol style grip , where the majority of the weight is at the top . You definitely cannot relax your grip when holding this , mainly because the area where you grip is fairly thin and could be easily dropped . It doesnt help that they dont provide a wrist strap . I would imagine people with big hands may have a harder time . You can take pictures while you record , but most all of all the pictures I took while recording came out blurry . I would'nt base you decision on getting this camera because of this . It is a neat trick tho . Overall , this video / camera is great , especially for youtube or facebook . You can buy batteries for 5 dollars each on ebay . I bought 2 for $10 with free shipping . There are higher powered batteries for sale for this camera , but I honestly would just get the ones that match the original battery . Hope this helps .
    • 032 4  I have been looking for a long time and going alot of research on the best mini-HD cam to get . I am no expert , and I just wanted a good camera to do simple home videos of my baby . I bought the kodak zxi and it was terrible . The colors were very dark , and the video quality was grainey . I then researched the HD Mino , and while it got fairly good reviews , I did not like the USB charge style and the small screen , and also the built in ( limited ) memory . I ordered the CG10 from Radio Shack , and since have been very pleased . It is simple for me to use , and the quality is GREAT . I like the pistol grip style ( makes it feel more like a video camera instead of a regular camera ) and the rechangable battery . By the way , some of the reviews said you could get extra batteries for cheap , its true , I bought two off ebay for $12 . The tv hookup cables included are not for HD viewing , you need to get composite cables for that . I mainly just transfer the videos onto my Mac and save them there , and it works beautifully . I can't give all the fancy review specs as some do on here , but as a mother who has used it - this camera is great . The sound is really good , it even picks up my tv's background sound when im recording by daughter in our home . As far as I can tell the battery life is really good , and the cheap backup batteries are a great feature as well . I have a 8GB memory card , which holds about 2 hours of HD quality video , which is good enough for me . I bought the memory card from Amazon ( $30.00 ) as well , as compared to triple that at Best Buy . As far as a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable to hook up to the tv , I haven't been able to find one yet that will hook up to the camera . I think this is something Sanyo needs to address . Other than that - - - five stars ! ! !
    • 044 4  Very pleased with this camera Pros : Compact Portable ( slips in any pocket ) Excellent value Easy to use Good quality video and stills convenient hand-held design Full featured True optical zoom ( does not reduce resolution ) Excellent , well written , 150 page + user manual Easy to use menu system , very user friendly . Dual function stills and video Can take stills while shooting video Cons : Battery life is not as advertised . This is not a problem because the batteries are removable and available , and very inexpensive on the WEB . Some users have commented that the lens cover is flimsy . I find this not to be a problem if you are reasonably careful . Some users have commented on the inconvenience of not charging the battery in the camera . I find external charging a convenience because you can charge extra batteries while using the camera . Changing the different modes is a little foggy even with the booklet . Recommendations : READ all the other comments on this product . There is much helpful information there such as how to set the settings for optimal performance and where to buy accessories such as a carrying case , light , straps , etc . BUY 4 or 5 extra batteries , they are cheap and you will need them . In summary : Based on my experience so far , I would recommend this camera To anybody wanting good value for their money . For ordinary use It is the only camera you need .
    • 062 4  I've owned this camera for a couple of months now and have used it often . I chose this camera over similar ones in this price range because of the features and I have not been disappointed . Easy to use once you get to know the menus , and though not perfect by any means it is just right for my needs for an everyday cam . Read the review on CNET for a good overview of all the features and abilities of this camcorder . I've managed to tweak a fairly decent picture quality by following the advice of the other reviewers here ( thank you ) and so far have had no problems with it . Very pleased overall , better than I was expecting in fact . With the optional Sanyo component cable you CAN watch your vids in hi-def . I have not yet found a battery with longer life than the one provided , but I am still looking . . . if anyone knows of one , please leave a comment here . I would appreciate it .
    • 066 4  The good : - VERY portable - Relatively easy to use ( works better if you tweak some of the advanced settings , but will be OK if you just point and shoot ) - GREAT picture quality for a camera at this price point - 5x optical zoom ( virtually none of these portable video cameras have optical zoom at all ) - Decent quality still photos , which can be taken at the same time you are shooting video - Good battery life Only one bad : - The focus quit working the first day I used it . This is apparently a known defect , because Sanyo told me to return the unit without any troubleshooting at all . Disappointing , but they have already credited me for the return and the replacement is on its way .
    • 080 4  This is the first hd camcorder I've owned or used . I picked it up very cheap open box from Amazon . Overall I'm very happy with it . Picture quality is better than I expected after reading other users reviews . Many people have complained about poor low light performance but I really have not had an issue with it . Will it look like an nfl game ? No , it's a $200 camera . But I'm quite impressed with how good it does look . The videos on youtube definitely do it justice , check them out before you buy to see if it's what you're looking for . I was disappointed to learn that I can't used it as a webcam with Mac OS , that feature is windows only . Haven't had any other compatibility issues however . Mac OS recognizes it quickly as a card reader , transfers are as speedy as you'd expect with a usb 2.0 device . Videos load into iMovie / quicktime without any issues . Build quality is so-so . Cheap plastic everywhere , but it doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart . No large panel gaps , which is nice . The little door that covers the SD card slot seems flimsy , must be opened with care . The battery cover can be a little finnicky as well . The hinge on the screen looks and feels pretty robust though , and the buttons click / slide nicely . Essentially everything you use every time you turn on the camera seems well designed , but the secondary functions and less used stuff is not quite as good . I think it's a very good purchase , and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good inexpensive camcorder .
    • 101 4  I've had it for 24 hours now . For the most part , I'm impressed . I was looking for a camera to replace my old miniDV camera , ( which was starting to show its age with a Please Wait : Condensation all the time . It seems to be fairly idiot proof . With the suggestions for settings I've found elsewhere , it's quite the capable camera . That being said , it's small . . . almost too small . The battery life is horrible . However the cost of a spare is cheap , ( I'd have two spares if I were you ) . There's no external Mic port . The internal memory is enough for short clips and pictures ( and by short , a 17sec clip took up 18.5 megs of the 40meg internal memory ) There's a cable path in the battery compartment to run an AC adapter . One that would fit in the battery compartment with the cable trailing out ( though I've not found one yet ) . The controls are simple . Though I have not discovered yet , if there is a way to force the camera into Still Camera mode ( without using the picture button , because the second you let off , it goes back into movie camera mode ) The screen is big for its size , in fact bigger than a lot of cameras in the price range , and bigger than some of those cameras in the Traditional configuration . . . . and I'm surprised by the lens , it produces surprisingly good pictures and video . All in all , I don't think I can not recommend this camera for someone just getting into digital HD video . The price is also a selling point . $159 for what it can do is too hard to pass up . The next step up ( 1080p ) is almost twice that . . . and 720p is just fine for family videos , YouTube , and basic student video . The only other downside that I've seen so far , is that while yes you can use this camera as a webcam , I'm not seeing how you can mouth it on a table tripod AND have the cable plugged in , without drilling a hole in your tripod mount . Here's a YouTube video of the 17sec test shot I did : [ . . . ]
    • 103 4  The quality of the product is exceptional for the price . I'm sure you can pay twice as much , it would be twice as big , and you'd get a little better low-light performance , but that's not why I bought this camera . I can close the screen and drop it onto my jacket pocket . It fits in your hand in a more stable way as well . The only disappointment is with the battery . an 8GB SD card vastly outlasts the battery , and in the cold weather it kept complaining about low battery ( though it wasn't really the case ) . Also , unless you have a newer SD-HC reader , you're stuck using the camera ( on battery power ) to offload your videos / pics .
    • 124 4  3hrs 45 mins of 720p video quality on 16GB SD Card . Downloads to PC are relatively fast with USB2.0 Great daytime video and nice large 3.6MB stills at 12MP . Edit : Cut / Join videos on the camera before downloading to PC . Great feature . Pull it out of your jean pocket , open the lcd , start shooting in secs . Customizable shortcuts using the Set button . Nice feature but gets accidentally triggered by strangers too often due to buttons being close . Have to ask strangers to press the photo button all the way and wait . I had a guy take 4 photos of us in Prague only to find out he took none . Cool Macro focus mode for very close subjects . Takes stills while shooting video but at lower resolution . Bought it with three extra batteries for a trip to Europe . Never had to use more than two on any day . Compressed Multi-MB resulting 720P video a big challenge for older PCs to play . Bad video and stills in low light . It's practically a daytime camcorder / camera only . Stills with flash are great except for red eye . Sluggish autofocus even in good light . Sluggish auto-exposure ( most noticeable when driving into and out of tunnels in Europe ) Red eye and lack of effective stabilization major issues . Red eye correction s / w useless . Have to take tripod mounting bit out of bottom to replace battery or download to PC . Cannot shoot with AC power / adapter in the car . Could not find one to buy . Suction cup mount on car windshield and tripod alleviate / resolve shake issue . I gave mine to a relative in Europe who admired it a lot ( a this price , it's feasible ) and bought the same one again despite all the flaws
    • 131 4  I read all the reviews and looked at a lot of different models before deciding on the Sanyo CG10 . The price at Amazon ( $178 ) was a major factor . Also , the 720p HD and the cool , black color . It is amazingly easy to use and find your recent shots . Its so portable , it fits into my pants pocket . Just whip it out and shoot . Just make sure you wait the few seconds for it to fire up each time . That can be a bit maddening but hey , what do you want for $178 ? The lens cover is a removable piece of plastic as opposed to a built in . A bit of a hassle every time you want to shoot but hey , what do you want for $178 Picture quality ? Pretty damn good , but the more you zoom , the fuzzier it gets . The biggest drawback for me is the zoom . Only 5x optical is pretty frustrating at times but hey , what do you want for $178 ? As others have suggested here , I keep the face detection and shake off . I shoot au naturel and let the chips fall where they may . I also set the stills to 7MP to get the full picture in the viewfinder . The stills seem to wash out blue sky sometimes and get a bit fuzzy on super close-ups . I think I'll keep my 7.2 MP Sony just in case . I was going to get rid of it but I'm still not sold on the Sanyo's still capabilities . The video is the star here . If you have a steady hand , you can make some great video . 720 looks fine at normal shooting distance but once you start zooming , you really have to watch it . Because of the pistol grip , this camera doesn't lend itself to resting on a flat surface and zooming . So there you have it . Its not perfect , but the conveniences and video quality are well worth the money .
    • 146 4  I won't go in to a deep review on this camera , but I thought I would add mine to the mix as you may be like me . You read the good reviews and the bad and possibly think that the negatives are being unfair , or come from the consumer not knowing the product . I've been looking at this cam for some time now . There are some beautiful outdoor videos in HD on You Tube that convinced me that the reviews on here that were negative were unfounded . The problem is , they aren't . This camera is perfect for you if you are looking for something that you'll be using 99% of the time outdoors , or with an extremely well lit room indoors . If you want something to take good video indoors at events , concerts , weddings , etc . DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA ! ! ! I got it out today with X-mas settling down and with natural light in my room ( 3 : 00 PM with fair light ) was totally blown away at how horrid the picture is . The grain and vertical lines in the view finder were horrible . To be fair , I got my Vado out by Creative Labs to compare . I haven't used the Vado much in the months that I've had it , but the picture on the Vado was amazing compared to the Sanyo , no snow , no lines , just a really good picture . This is what convinced me to take the Sanyo back . Keep in mind , I read all of the helpful reviews and adjusted my settings as all of the other folks said they had done and the picture is bad enough to where I'm still going to return the cam . I really wanted to like this camera as it's stylish and I like the pistol grip ergonomics . Please remember , I bought this camera because I wanted it to be all that people claimed . I have adjusted the settings to make sure it wasn't me relying on the automatic mode . Unless you're wanting this camera for purposes only involving great lighting , I would opt for something better in an all around way . The Vado I have is actually pretty amazing , read reviews on it and compare it on You tube to other cameras . I believe they're on E-bay now very inexpensive . I'm happy with the Vado and will continue to look for something that goes nicely with it that actually lives up to it's hype . Maybe the more expensive Sanyo cameras would work better ?
    • 158 4  This camcorder can NOT be recommend if you wish to connect it to your computer . Especially if you are on a Mac . Page 150 of the users ' manual states that the camera can ONLY be used as a video source for computers running Windows Vista or Windows XP . Though it comes with a USB cable , it does not recognize a MAC ( I can also vouch for this myself . The manual does not lie . I can speak first hand . I am returning mine tomorrow ) . FURTHERMORE , even if you are on a Windows machine , the optical zoom is disabled when in PC Camera mode ( To quote page 150 of the users ' manual verbatim : The zoom cannot be used with the PC Camera function . ) . So the whole 5x optical zoom is worthless if you wish to use to to stream video ( the only reason I bought it ) . If you intend to ever use this as a video source for your PC computer , DO NOT . And if you're on a MAC you CANNOT . Buyer beware . Oh , and the whole thing about not having a power cord and only working off the battery , that sucks pretty bad too . In short : This thing is a piece of junk .

  • Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I did all kinds of research on this before I bought it thinking wow I can't wait to get this . Well the company was wonderful I will say that , their only fault was using UPS when I finally got my package , I started playing with it right away . . . low light . eh it's ok . the video was great as well the microphone was not so great . . I had it videotaping my husband right across the couch and it sounded like he was across the house . and that was just the two of us . . I couldn't even hear what my son was saying when he was at the park playing . . . I couldn't justify keeping it since I got it to take really good camera pics and really nice videos of my children to post to my website for my parents to see . Maybe I just got a lemon but I was disappointed and returned it . . The problem with returning on Amazon . . . most stores on here want a 10% restocking fee just for you opening the box . So my advice do so extensive research , ( youtube vids , read reviews etc . ) and make sure depending on how much cheaper I'd buy one from a local store just in case so you can take it back and get full money back if not satisfied . PS the highest sd card it will accept is 32GB ( NOT A CLASS 6 VERSION EITHER )
    • 120 4  video camera is good for the price battery life could be better , the best thing that i liked about it was that after shooting a video or pics , i can take the sd card out and pop it right into my ps3 and watch the videos and pics on my 52 inch lcd , so i dont have to be bothered with the cables that came with it , and i dont have to order the component cables that was a real plus . after i found out that the videos will play through my ps3 i decided that it was a keeper . the video quality is decent and the camera is worth every penny and more after seeing the other cameras out there , this blows them all away in its class ! ! !

  • Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I found this product one day at best buy , but they actually did not have any so i went on here , found it for a cheaper price , i recommend getting it from JR the best service i had in many years of online shopping , total was 179.99 and i got it in 2 days . AMAZING .
    • 018 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) I run a Media Center for a living , and I purchased this little camera for general and recreational use.I haven't used it enough yet to give a complete review , but if it holds up on extended use , then I think we have a winner here . I go many places , and I don't like dragging a big camcorder around . The CG10 is small with a crystal clear 3 inch LCD screen . However , the microphones are found on the back of the screen , which makes it more difficult for it to pick up sound if you are trying to record yourself with the camera on a tripod and the screen facing you . I have a loud voice , so it doesn't affect me much , but I am sure that someone else might be more adversely effected . That being said , I find the sound quality to be excellent . I took a recording of my wife doing some gardening and put it on the Web . Since the recordings are in MP4 format , it was a snap to do it . I recorded without face identification or motion stabilization . I had no problem getting a sharp steady picture . SD Flash cards are cheap and allow for a lot of recording time.I believe it is a great value for the money . Just think . . . . . . . . . . . . . no more tapes or belts to worry about , the transfer to the computer or Internet immediate . Slip it in your pocket , and take it anywhere . I will take it in the woods this hunting season. If it only had a viewfinder , it would be perfect. My eyes ain't what they use to be !

    • 025 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) For the type of camera / camcorder this is I highly recommend this . Quality is not picture perfect , but I love it .
    • 027 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I really like the ease of use of this camera . Everything about this relatively inexpensive camera is great . I previously owned one with a metal housing and liked the feel of it better ( albeit heavier ) . All in all a nice , inexpensive camera .
    • 029 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I bought this camera to take video on a trip to Europe and it was super easy to use .
    • 033 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I got this camera for my boyfriend and he love's it we use it all the time . we are both Entertainers so we do record alot in the theather with crazy light and doring rehersal with very low lights and it always works never falt . I have use is few times as well and its very easy in use very light the batary life is good.I do recomend to get 16 Gb memory card . Highly Recomend ! For this price and a small video camera like this its all you need .
    • 035 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) I love this camera .
    • 037 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) We got this Sanyo Xacti 720p HD camcorder a little before Christmas 09 to start making some family video while the kids are young . I'm no pro , but I did want something in the HD range . For the money this Camera is great . You get 720p HD camcorder and a 12meg Digital Camera all in one . The best parts - * Outside video quality spectacular * 5X optical zoom is awesome * Easy to use , great menu setup * Small , easy to carry * Uses SD memory cards that videos can be copied and pasted to your computer * Large LCD Screen * Quick start up when turned on The not so good parts - * Inside video quality , just Ok * No editing burning software included * Battery life is like 30 mins + ( cheap , might try buying an extra ) * Camera seems to have a preference for Macs * HDMI cable is sold separately the Important stuff - * * Read around the Customer Reviews . Some really good advice on the Camera settings * * If you want to watch your movies on your computer you need to have Quicktime Player to keep up with the MPEG - 4 files * * * If you want to take your videos off your computer and put them on a DVD then you will need some help . If you have a Mac ( which I don't ) with iMovie no problem . If you have a PC then I will save you allot of time and trouble . You need to download a program that will convert your HD video to a DVD files . I've seen a few people recommend AVS4YOU as a free solution . It looks easy to use but it's not free if you don't mind dropping another $50 than problem solved . I finally found a great Free program that will convert your files into DVDs . Its called DVD Flick works great , highly recommended . Videos : ISO standard MPEG - 4 AVC / H .264 ( . MP4 ) Photos : JPEG
    • 039 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Camcorder might have been great BUT it can record only 45 minutes on a fully charged battery . The DC power adapter mentioned in the manual was not released in the USA and could not be found outside the USA . Interrupting a recording to swap the battery is unacceptable for our use . Also discovered that not being able to set the camcorder on a table and record was annoying ; must always use a tripod when not holding the camera .
    • 041 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) I purchased this camcorder to film family and special events .
    • 043 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Very pleased with this camera Pros : Compact Portable ( slips in any pocket ) Excellent value Easy to use Good quality video and stills convenient hand-held design Full featured True optical zoom ( does not reduce resolution ) Excellent , well written , 150 page + user manual Easy to use menu system , very user friendly .
    • 045 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I had a Flip , and wasn't so sure about it , then tried this Sanyo camera . The Sanyo is far superior to the Flip . Considering the price you pay for the Sanyo , you will get a lot of quality for it . For only a little more than the flip was , this camera out performed it by a lot ! Don't expect it to be the same as your $500 - $1000 camcorder , but for this price , it's AWESOME ! The Still shots are also very good as well , and another reason to get away from the flip .
    • 047 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I purchased this camera for my son ( 15 years ) , when I asked how he would rate it he gave me a 4 out of 5 he really likes the camera but says he is really disappointed with the low light capabilities of the camera . The daylight and bright light movies are great , batteries are good . Face tracking is good he has used it for photos and says they are also Ok . He doesn't rave about any of it other than the movies . He makes movies and puts them on You Tube , with his old camera he always came to me to upload and edit now he does it all himself . Because I spent 17 years as a computer consultant he comes to me with even the smallest of problems ( he is spoiled that way ) . I haven't heard much from him about the camera and uploads . I like that the camera has a wider field of view than the Flipcam , if you zoom into the same field of view they seem much the same but zooming back the Xacti shows much more of the room at a shorter distance . It also has a few more adjustments if you want to get technical . We are not technical with it we just open and shoot and it works great . I hope this helps you to make your choice in a new camera . I would buy this one again . I am sure in the future the low light function will get better , the price can't be beat .

So far it has been all i expected by the product description . Just make sure you have a fast computer and a good video editing program . Also make sure you have an external hard drive to store all your videos . I am happy i bought this camcorder and now i'm able to record many memories . Try it out and then buy the accessories . i bought the extra batteries from Ebay . I also got a Tripod and a 16GB SD card .
    • 051 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Bought this to replace Sony hi - 8 .
    • 054 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) I purchased this camera for for videos of my family and it is absolutely great .

    • 061 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I've owned this camera for a couple of months now and have used it often .
    • 063 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Overall I think this camcorder is a better option than the Flips that are out there as of right now . Pros : - the 5x zoom is great - compact - very nice LCD - battery life - stereo audio Cons : - Poor low light filming - sluggish focus sometimes - I don't like the fact that you have to remove the battery to charge - battery is used instead of charged when usb is plugged into computer

    • 065 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) The good : - VERY portable - Relatively easy to use ( works better if you tweak some of the advanced settings , but will be OK if you just point and shoot ) - GREAT picture quality for a camera at this price point - 5x optical zoom ( virtually none of these portable video cameras have optical zoom at all ) - Decent quality still photos , which can be taken at the same time you are shooting video - Good battery life Only one bad : - The focus quit working the first day I used it . This is apparently a known defect , because Sanyo told me to return the unit without any troubleshooting at all . Disappointing , but they have already credited me for the return and the replacement is on its way .
    • 067 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) I took the Xacti on my backpacking trip through Connecticut on the Appalachain Trail the first week of May .
    • 069 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) There are so many pluses to this product . it is important to note that I never owned a video camera or still camera before ( except for a cellphone ) , but I really could not expect more from this camera .
    • 071 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I read all of the reviews for the Sanyo VPC-CG10 and although there are a few things that could be better for the pricing there is no better product in this class . I have taken both still pictures and hi-def video and to average photographer the quality is just fine . Home movies , graduations , whatever you need it for it just works . If you want professional grade this isn't your camera but for the average Joe it works great and the price can't be beat .
    • 073 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) You can do a lot with this baby ! ! And it's cool looking . Took it to The Masters . It won't freeze the clubhead . . but the Still AND Video options give you plenty to see .
    • 075 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This camera is perfect to capture that memorable family moment . . . in hi-def ! Owned this for about a month or probably more . I gave 3 stars for battery life because it only gave me an hour , but bought extra batteries at ebay for [ . . . ] only for 2 pieces . I gave 4 stars for stabilization because it gets really shaky at times unless you turn on the shake control thingy function . I would definitely recommend this camera ! I bought the AmazonBasics Universal Camera Case FF ( Black ) for it and it fits plus more of your accessories !
    • 077 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) So lightweight I forget it's in my purse , easy enough to use that my 12 year old didn't need to read the directions , very good picture quality .
    • 079 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This is the first hd camcorder I've owned or used .
    • 082 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Well after reading a ton of reviews , all i have to say is that you get what you pay for . I must say that for 160 $ this camera is decent . The picture quality is decent with a good even amount of light but however , it becomes very grainy when you film it in low light . What I really loved about it was that I was able to just pop the SD card out , stick it straight into the computer and just drag and drop the videos I wanted to take off . This camera is okay and I gotta say that I like it
    • 084 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) An excellent go between for a camera and video recorder . Picture quality is very nice .
    • 087 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I just bought this camera but I think I've messed around with it enough to give a good description . First of all , the picture quality is outstanding . It is true HD . The pictures are great , the flash is nice and bright . One downside is that it doesn't have a camera light , just flash . The menu interface is awesome , easy to use . The buttons are placed where your thumb can easily reach them . Awesome 3 screen . There are lots of settings on this camera so you can adjust to whatever type of lighting situation you may be in . I've used the camera w / skype . There is a bit of a lag but I'm pretty sure that's bcuz of my internet connection or something , still trying to work out the bugs . It's easy to copy files from the camera to your computer . I just wished that the camera had an A / C power adapter so I wouldn't have to worry about running out of battery while I'm uploading or using it as a webcam or w / e . But extra batteries are only $15 and I'm sure you could find a cheaper price for them on Ebay . Also , I think that they sell an a / c adapter separately . I would suggest getting Sony Vegas Pro 9 so that you can edit your vids . This camera produces hd mpeg4 files that DO NOT work in windows movie maker or media player . Sony Vegas works just right with these files , and you can publish your edited works to your computer in avi format so that you can watch in windows media player , burn them , or upload them to YouTube . With all it's tiny flaws , this is the best pocket camcorder that you will find . Trust me , I've done all the research and you won't find it for a better price than right here on Amazon .
    • 089 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I was very pleased with the unit when I purchased it . Worked right out of box with out any reading of the manual . I need to go back and hack on it some so the settings are better quality but I am very pleased with the item .
    • 091 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I got this camcorder because both of my brothers had it and loved . So far I love mine too . Easy to take wherever we go though we have not yet found a case to fit it ( haven't tried too hard yet though ) iI just put it in my purse . great picture
    • 093 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I've seen better , I've seen worst , Zoom Fair , Picture quality OK , Sound Quality OK . Poor in low light . . . . . . . Good buy for a low end camera ( $150 ) So I think I got what I paid for , no complaints , but maybe next time I'll spend a little more .
    • 095 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) One of the things I've not seen talked about is audio quality , I film local bands and I can honestly say that this camera lets me move around all I want and get excellent audio .
    • 097 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) I owned an Xacti C6 and loved it more than this new one .
    • 100 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I've had it for 24 hours now . Here's a YouTube video of the 17sec test shot I did : [ . . . ]
    • 102 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) The quality of the product is exceptional for the price .
    • 104 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Product fits perfectly in one hand , is light and easy to use . This is for capturing those little moments when they happen . Battery life is great . I am very glad it uses the memory cards . . . lots of storage and you can pop another in if needed . It also has a zoom feature the other ' leading ' product does not .
    • 107 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) We loved ours so much we bought three of them for Christmas gifts . Bought ours at radio shack but paid $30 or $40 less on line . And one of the prople who we gave one to , bought their parents ones . So easy to use . Zoom is not at all jerky . carry in your coat pocket . can make pictures while taking a video ! Hd which is super for this price !
    • 109 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) Has some quirks and required settings changes which are addressed by other reviewers already . That said , it has incredible bang for the buck !
    • 111 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) We bought this to use at our family Christmas get-together & its so easy to use . Very small , easy to pack , clear crisp images & colors . Nice camcorder .
    • 113 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) As I leran how to use the Dual Camera , it does what it says it does .
    • 115 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) good videos in HD for a camera like this , the 5x optical zoom is a deal-maker . Love the form factor . . . it's ideal for me . I bought it to take videos from a Pixies concert and eventually the security people in there didn't allow me to do that . . . but in the process everyone of them ( the security guys ) was asking me where I get my fancy camera hehe
    • 117 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Overall , I like it .
    • 119 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) video camera is good for the price battery life could be better , the best thing that i liked about it was that after shooting a video or pics , i can take the sd card out and pop it right into my ps3 and watch the videos and pics on my 52 inch lcd , so i dont have to be bothered with the cables that came with it , and i dont have to order the component cables that was a real plus . after i found out that the videos will play through my ps3 i decided that it was a keeper . the video quality is decent and the camera is worth every penny and more after seeing the other cameras out there , this blows them all away in its class ! ! !
    • 121 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) very good quality , especially outdoors , but also more than fair for indoor videos ( mostly to shoot videos of my sons playing , etc )
    • 123 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) 3hrs 45 mins of 720p video quality on 16GB SD Card .
    • 125 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) This camera / video device is nearly perfect . It slips into a pocket , and is ready to take a picture or video REALLY fast . The quality is great . Two small drawbacks : Don't get hot pink if you want to stay unnoticed . I took this on the NYC Subway and realized it REALLY stands out . Black would have been a better choice ! and I can't make the MP4 videos play on my brand new computer ! Windows Media player does not seem to recognise the format ? ? ? Maybe I didn't read all the detailed instructions to make it work , but I would think it would be automatic . The pictures show fine .
    • 129 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) It's just OK . If you don't want to spend too much on your new camcorder , Sanyo VPC-CG10 is the ideal choice . Minus one star for the comparatively weak zoom .
    • 133 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I've been dying to find a single camera which takes great video , great stills , is designed well , and is small enough to fit in your pocket .
    • 135 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) The only real bad thing is that it doesn't work well in low light situations . Another thing is you might want to consider getting a tripod at the same time . The shape makes it so you can't set it down upright .
    • 137 4  This review is from : Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder w / 5x Optical Zoom ( Pink ) ( Electronics ) I wish I could tell you about the camera however when mine was shipped it was lost somewhere along the way . However I did get a full refund . This took a little time but only due to the holidays .
    • 139 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Have now used this product extensively and am amazed at it's capabilities , from the quality of picture it delivers to the ease of handling and downloading . It is such a small camera that it takes up a tiny amount of space in a pocket and fires up really quickly . The only complaint I have is an annoying bong noise it makes on playback - I will take this up with Sanyo .
    • 141 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Was looking for a inexpensive HD camcorder . Heard good things about the Sanyo and decided to give it as a birthday gift to my brother in-law . So far , he likes it . Not so great in picture taking or battery life , but he gives it a thumbs up on everything else . Amazon also had the best price and threw a free 4G SDHC card .
    • 144 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I have a Canon G9 which is an excellent still camera , but I thought it was only a so-so video camera .
    • 147 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I am writing this review based on my usage of digital cameras and camcorders for the past few years now and I have compared this with Panasonic Lumix 10x zoom camera which has 10MP photo and 480P video capability .
    • 150 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) The features seem good as listed , but the end result simply isn't good enough if your aim is to use this as an HD camcorder . Despite using the manual controls , I never could get anything but soft video even with the image stabilization turned off . In fact , the quality is about the same as digital cameras that include 720p recording as a secondary feature . The only real advantage over those is better audio . If you plan to use this primarily as a web video device , you might be happier with the Flip MinoHD .

    • 152 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Pros : Smart , Intuitive design makes this camera very easy to use . The video camera is great and creates an accurate HD quality video with the ability to go back and turn your video clips into small pictures . The ability to flip the screen and take self-portraits of yourself with other people is an infinitely useful feature . Cons : Red eye on this camera is horrible . The fact that the flash is located right next to the lens makes red a huge issue for anyone taking pictures with subjects who are greater than 4 feet away . The red eye removal software does not work most of the time . In low lightning situations , the autofocus takes a few seconds to focus and take a picture . This is an issue when you're handing the camera to a stranger , they will not be able to take a picture because the auto-focus makes them believe they took the picture . 3 / 4 times I've given my camera to a stranger , they have failed to take a picture . The battery life on this camera is decent but it goes from full to zero way too quickly . The battery icon is not accurate at all . Bottom Line : This is a good daytime camera for the price but is horrible at taking low light pictures requiring flash primarily because of red eye and lengthy autofocus .
    • 156 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I wrote a prior review under P.A .
    • 159 4  This review is from : Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Received camcorder today .

  • Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Update 11 - 2009 I have bought 2 of these cameras , one at Radio Shack and a black one on Amazon . The finish on the black is smooth and shows fingerprints . The red model only at Radio Shack resists fingerprints nicely and I like the red color better than the black . A great camera as I mentioned below . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I compared the CG10 to the Kodak Zi6 , Flip MinoHD , Creative Labs Vlado HD and a few others . To my great surprise , the best in class by far was the Sanyo CG10 , a brand I always associated with junk at Walmart . Sanyo has come a very long way ! I bought the camera over the July 4th weekend on sale at Radio Shack for $179.99 . I have seen other reviews with a price of $149.00 but I haven't seen that pricing anywhere . The pros of the camera : 1 . Awesome build quality 2 . Amazing price 3 . 5X zoom 4 . HD 5 . Comes with all cables needed . 6 . twin stereo mics 7 . Image stabilization ! 8 . Very Small 9 . large 3 screen , crystal clear 10 . 10 mp camera with flash 11 . Can shoot pics while shooting video 12 . Wide screen format in both photo and video . 13 . Uses cheap SD cards 14 . Built in stereo mics , records audio extremely well . 15 . Replacement batteries are cheap on ebay . 16 . Wide angle lens , makes a big difference . Cons : 1 . Clip on lens cap . ( Built in would be better ) 2 . No wrist strap ( what were you thinking Sanyo ? ) 3 . Charger has a 6 foot cord . ( I cut it down to 6 inches for travel , Why didn't Sanyo put prongs on the back of the charger and do away with the cord altogether ? Pretty stupid Sanyo ) 4 . No case available yet ( I want a case that fits like a glove with belt clip ) . 5 . No external mic input . ( not really a problem ) 6 . Battery does not charge inside camera . ( A plus and a minus depending ) 7 . Proprietary USB cable ( really stupid move Sanyo ) The Vlado , Zi6 and Flip do not have the 10 mp camera with flash , no zoom , no image stabilization , smaller screens , no stereo recording or poor audio recording . There is no comparison , and these inferior cameras cost nearly as much as the Sanyo .
    • 005 4  I just bought this dual-cam recently and it's been great . #1 it's made for portability - I'm a guy and this fits in a pocket just fine . #2 features - unbelievable what Sanyo fit in this thing . 720p ( vid quality is as expected for the price ) , photo during recording , Av / Tv priority , 7fps burst , built-in flash , in-camera editing , frame-by-frame in-camera playback , 5x OPTICAL zoom , ( cheesy ) image stabilization , focus / exposure lock , selectable iso , face recognition . . . etc etc #3 build quality - amazing - it's a solid , well textured and designed little unit . It fits natural . The lcd is bright / clear / fast and its hinge is very strong . Feels very high quality , unlike my previous zi6 . All parts are tight and smooth . The SDHC slot feels floppy though . #4 for the $149 deal , it smokes anything else in its price range : zi6 , flip mino hd , insignia , rca , vado as far as being a complete package . It records just short of 4 hours on 16gb sdhc card at 720p . VGA / Youtube shooting is practically endless ( 12hrs ? ) . eBay has some 900mah replacement batteries ~ $5 each that get you ~ 50 mins video time per at 720p . I got it mostly for golf swing videos - the sports mode and 60fps 640x480 fits my needs perfectly . But I'm completely confident in bringing this camera to anything else and recording great videos no matter what they might be .

  • Sanyo Xacti CG10 Dual Camera HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom ( Black ) ( Electronics ) [ . . . ] I have read many many reviews about this camera and have looked at countless videos on YouTube about it . Radio Shack has a lot of reviews about it too . Hopefully I can say something that hasn't been covered yet about this camera . First of all , there is a video cable that connects the camera directly to a HDTV . The number of the cable is Sanyo VCP-CPNT01U Component Output Cable for Sanyo WH1 , TH1 , CA9 , CG10 Camcorders , and Amazon sells it for $ [ . . . ] . The cable is shown on page 159 of the manual . Turn OFF the NOISE REDUCTION . To do this go to MENU 2 under the WRENCH MENU . It is actually the 5th MENU down . Go to NOISE REDUCTION , push SET , Then select OFF for both VIDEO NR and PHOTO NR . Push the MENU button to get out of there . I have never found a Noise Reduction on any camera that makes the pictures better . It usually degrades the quality of the pictures . As others have said , put the FOCUS MODE to SPOT . A good software program is AVS4YOU . Search for it . It is free to try and does a good job of playing and converting MPEG4 files to AVI or whatever . Here is what I like about the camera : You can join clips or cut out video with the camera in the playback mode . Manual PG 104 - 112 . You can take up to 11 pictures in sequence in the 10mb Photo mode . Pg 85 in the manual talks about that . To be direct , go to MENU , PHOTO , hit SET , Scroll down to 10mb burst mode , which is down past the .9meg picture selection . Just keep going down till you see it . It works great . Be advised it does not work with flash . You can also put SEQUENTIAL ( I don't know why they don't call it BURST ) in your SHORTCUTS MENU . Page 128 in the manual . To do this go to MENU , then scroll down on the left side to MENU 2 under the WRENCH MENU . That is actually MENU 5 down from the top . Select SHORTCUTS , then SEQUENTIAL and push the SET button . Now once in the camera mode all you have to do to get Sequential is push the SET switch up . Pushing it up again puts you back in normal photo . Be advised if you have the photo set to 10mH ( High ) once you come out of the Sequential Mode the camera will go back to 10mS ( Standard ) . To fix that you must go back to MENU 1 , PHOTO , then select 10mH again . You can take a photo just by pushing the PHOTO button while shooting video . Pg . 67 . It may not be a big photo file , but it works . You can delete 1 picture , selected pictures , or all pictures in the camera . You can print from the camera . You can use the camera with the cable as a card reader . pg 145 of manual I have found that using all the optical zoom , you can use 1 / 3 of the digital zoom and still get a good looking picture . I took a picture of my wife at 125 yards and could read the lettering on her shirt using the optical zoom and digital zoom at max . I am not saying this is the best thing to do , but in some situations that is the only way to get the shot . Optical and digital zoom max is 60X . The quality wasn't all that bad . Macro goes down to .39 inches . You do have to set it to SuperMacro focus in the menu though . To do that go to MENU , FOCUS , then select SUPERMACRO . Then push MENU to get back to the camera mode . The ISO goes from 50 to 1600 . Your best picture will be in the 50 to 100 ISO range . The higher the ISO , the more the noise in the photo / video . I noticed leaving the ISO in Auto is sometimes a mistake . I was going to take a picture and I knew the flash would go off . It was somewhat dark , but not very dark . When I looked at the screen the picture didn't look all that great . It was grainy and I could tell the Auto ISO setting was pretty high . I manually set the ISO for 100 and it totally cleared up the screen . I took the picture . It came out great . It was a little darker than I wanted , but the picture looked clear . I brightened the picture up with Photo software and the results were outstanding . While looking at the screen , you can adjust the ISO and instantly see how it is going to affect your picture . In some situations it is better to take charge of he ISO and set it manually . In taking a photo , pushing the button half way down causes the camera to focus . Pushing it the rest of the way causes an almost instant shot with very little delay . You can use the camera as a PC camera ( like a monitor camera for your computer ) . Pg 150 In watching a video in playback , if you pause the video an image can be taken by pushing the PHOTO button . Pg 73 . There are a couple of things I don't like about the camera . One is the battery , but you can buy them on EBay . Search for DB-L80 Battery . I found them for just over ten dollars for two . They are cheap and in most cases it also includes shipping . The battery that comes with the Sanyo is a 700mAh ( Mili Amp Hour ) battery . The two that I bought on Ebay are 980mAh . That means they are stronger and will play longer . They work great . So the battery isn't really that much of a problem after all . The camera has a flimsy latch that covers the SDHC card . It is really flimsy . As a result , I just use the supplied cable and plug the camera into the USB slot on my computer to download files instead of taking the SDHC card out . The camera asks you if you plan on using it as a reader when you plug it in . Just click SET on that and the computer sees the drive instantly . The last thing I don't like about the camera is the lack of a strap . I don't like holding a camera without something keeping it from hitting the ground if dropped . I found a couple on Amazon just doing a search under CAMERA STRAP . Nikon AN-CP14 Replacement Strap or Canon Metal Neck Strap 1 for All Elph Cameras , 34 Length . The cost is real cheap for either the metal necklace or the wrist strap . Well that is it . I hope you enjoyed my review . Take care and get the camera . It is awesome for the price . I wish I could afford the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 Dual Camera with 8MP & 10x Optical Zoom Full HD 1080p Pocket Video Camera . . Wow , what a camera , but for $ [ WOW ! ] ? Oh , one last thing , the case . I found a really good cheap case for the camera . It is a Tamrac Explorer 15 ( Model 5415 ) Compact camera case for slim-line cameras . The price is small and the shipping is free . The case is small , but the Sanyo fits in it perfectly . The front pouch is big enough for extra batteries . At night , set the ISO to 1600 , and the Sensitivity to HIGH . That is the best this camera can get in low light conditions . With the lights on in the house the camera did ok . The video was bright and looks good . At night another accessory might be the answer . It is a video light . I have one and it works really great . Sima SL - 20LX Ultra Bright Video Light ( Silver ) . It works for about an hour before giving up the ghost . In most cases that is plenty of time . It comes with a bracket that mounts to the Sanyo . I found that mounting it catty corner ( about 45 degrees ) on the left side of the camera works really well . It is not in the way of the screen but right out there to provide the quality of light you need . Mounting on the right side interferes with your hand in holding the camera . Mounting it on the left side will not let the screen open fully . You have to mount it at about 45 degrees on the left side and then all works great . The light is really bright . I found that setting the ISO on 100 gives a great picture but the light only lights up clearly about 7 feet . If you need more lighting than that , set the ISO higher . Setting it at 1600 made the light really bright , and it made the whole area bright for the video . Maybe 1600 is the best place for this light . You have to experiment with it . Addition : 1 / 1 / 2010 Someone emailed me and said the video was shaking using Quicktime . It is jerky . If you have this problem there are several solutions . One is to download AVS4YOU . It is a free trail but the program costs money . Another is to download ACDSee Pro 3 but you have to pay for it too . The third solution is to download the latest version of Windows Media Player ( version 11 ) . The link is posted in the COMMENTS Section of this review . You must also have the CODEC that goes with Windows Media Player to play the MP4 extension . Do a search on Windows Media Player CODEC on Google . Select the link that says Media Player Codec Pack , Free software downloads and software The link is posted in the COMMENTS section of this review . That should solve your video shaking problem . To force Windows to use Windows Media Player to play your video files , go to the directory where your video files are located . Put the curser on one of the video files and right click on it . Select PROPERTIES and click . On the screen near the top you see the OPENS WITH then the box CHANGE . Select CHANGE and scroll down till you find WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER . Click on that then click OK . Now at the bottom of the page click APPLY then OK and you are set .

    • 004 4  I'm going to try and answer some issues with this great camera because it makes me sick that so many issues listed here can be remedied by simply reading the manual for this GREAT CAMERA ! I have had my VPC-CG10 since June and I love it . For a sub two hundred dollar camera , it is hands down the best . I tried around half dozen others and they all went back . This one is a keeper . The video quality , clarity , and color balance is on par with and better than some 1080P video cameras I've seen . I bought my red one at Radio Shack . Their website also has great reviews , tips , and advice about this camera . sekander , did you burn it to a bluray dvd or HD dvd ? Probably not , that's why you lost clarity . THE CAMERA SHOOTS IN HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO . If you're burning it to DVD , YOU ARE NOT BURNING IT IN HIGH DEFINITION . Your PC screen is HD . Your losing the HD when burning it to a DVD disc , cutting the resolution in half . Then you're making the video larger on a big screen . . . and you wonder why it's fuzzy ? ! ? ! ? ! ? Just some things to think about . The camera performs very well in low light , but not perfect , and if you can't make it do so , read the manual or study up on photography , lighting , and videos a bit before trashing the camera . I get GREAT results . Since Amazon doesn't allow web links , go to YouTube and search for my videos taken with this camera , search for user MrJuanitoBandito . See my dim Thanksgiving 2009 restaurant video and my low light Delta 2 Rocket Launch , Sunrise . I don't know how these people are getting fuzzy video other than operator error because this camera has the best video clarity I have ever seen in my life . Look at my other videos . The food in my Thanksgiving video is a bit fuzzy but that's because it was on the table about a foot away from the lens . I probably should have used the macro . Operator error . The ripply or tearing effect in videos means you have a weak computer . . . it's NOT the camera guys and gals . It has to do with a few things , mainly the Flash Video format with web videos and / or your weak computer with videos and / or Quicktime AND the vertical refresh or synch setting in your video card's control panel . . . not the camera . I can suggest trying the FREE VLC Media Player program and you will see it less . If it still does it , adjust the vertical refresh or synch setting in your video card's control panel , buy a new computer and / or upgrade your video card to one with a MINIMUM of 256 megabytes of dedicated video RAM ( VRAM ) on board , the more the better . If your video card has that , try adding more system memory ( RAM ) . Your PC is too weak for high definition video in MP4 format if none of these options works for you . Here's a test , watch one of my videos or any other on YouTube that's in HD . Click the HD button at the bottom right of the video , then the full screen button . If your PC locks up or the video is jittery and jumpy . . . if after trying the above options and they don't work , get a new PC or upgrade . . . yours is currently too weak . Every HD video on YouTube you should be able to watch in HD full screen , and it should be fluid like watching television , if you can't . . . you probably will have issues watching videos from this camera as well and maybe it's time for a new PC , processor , video card and / or upgrade . I recently had a friend that upgraded his processor from a Celeron to a Pentium 4 with HT and videos that he couldn't play before now play smooth , fluidly , and beautifully . . . full screen . UPDATE ON THIS TEARING EFFECT ABOVE . Since upgrading my PC to Windows 7 Professional , which now supports MP4 video in Windows Media Player , I get the smoothest video ever with NONE of this effect above . It's gone ! Fuzzy video when you zoom ? Again , take the time to read the manual and learn about the camera , read up on photography and lighting and video . The camera has both optical and digital zoom . Optical is real , mechanical zoom . . . the lens adjusts and moves . It is the best and usually satisfactory for my needs . I have digital zoom turned off because it's just cropping a portion of the last optical zoom . . . it's not REAL zoom like optical is . I read somewhere someone got good results after going about one tenth into the digital zoom then stopping , because after that it does get fuzzy . . . but ALL cameras with digital zoom do that . . . it's the nature of the zoom ! Just remember , digital zoom is fuzzy . . . not the camera ! Also , this is THE ONLY CAMERA in this price range that allows you to zoom in , to use the zoom , WHILE YOU ARE FILMING ! A professional photographer once told me the best zoom was his feet . comparatively weak zoom ? ! ? ! Compared to WHAT ? ! ? ! ? 99.9% of cameras out there in this price range only have 3X optical zoom . . . IF they even have optical zoom . . . most cameras in this price range only offer digital zoom . This camera has 5X optical zoom as well ! Complaints are being a bit petty . I think you work for a Sanyo competitor . A cheap flimsy lens cover ? ! ? ! Again , Compared to WHAT ? ! ? ! ? This is the only camera under two hundred dollars that comes with a lens cap ! It's plastic . So ? Aren't all lens caps ? It snaps on . Don't all lens caps ? Stop complaining , this camera blows away the competition in this price range . What were you expecting ? A magnesium alloy lens cap with a 200 PSI vacuum seal ? Come on , the camera sells for under two hundred dollars , not a thousand dollars . At least Sanyo had good sense to include a lens cap that works ! Audio ? Take the towel off the camera because I can pick up people 25 feet away and on playback hear them crystal clear . Again , operator error . Watch my Ares 1 - X rocket launch video on YouTube . When you hear the guy in the background A four hundred and fifty million dollar bottle rocket . . . , remember this . . . he's behind me about two to three hundred feet away ! The camera doesn't lay flat ? You knew this wasn't a conventional rectangular camera before you bought it just by looking at it ! That's like buying a green car and complaining about the color AFTER you bought the car . BUY A 6 or 8 TABLETOP TRIPOD for $8 - $10 ! You DO NOT have to remove the tripod mount to replace the battery or download anything to the PC ( I have no idea what camera he was reviewing here because it's not the VPC-CG10 I have ) . May I suggest you read the manual ? If it is connected to a tripod . . . YES , you would have to remove it from the tripod to plug in the USB cable or change the battery . It takes about ten seconds to remove the camera from a tripod . . . no big deal . Next , just set the camera on the desk next to the computer ! Are we getting a little petty about our complaints here ? Or do you work for a Sanyo competitor or a life long fan of another manufacturer ? Battery life ? About 45 minutes to an hour or so of continuous video shooting . I bought two more batteries on e-bay for $12 and that included shipping ! Wow ! It works for me ! Editing the MP4 videos made with this camera on the PC ? I have used about a half dozen programs and they all gave me some sort of issue but that's the programs , not the camera . I have been using Microsoft Windows LIVE Movie Maker and it works just great for me without any issues ( SEE comments of this review for more info ) . If I was a pro , I'd look into another program though with more options . Buy a 6 speed / class SDHC card for this camera . If you use a 2 speed / class SDHC card , ANYTHING you do with this camera will really suck and you will be sorely disappointed thinking it's the camera's fault . These 2 speed / class SDHC cards are plentiful , common , and CHEAP ! DO NOT USE THEM . A 4 speed / class SDHC card is MAYBE acceptable . . . barely . In reality though , anything less than a 6 speed / class SDHC card and your video playback will be slow and lag . I use both a 6 and 4 speed / class and am MUCH happier with the video and photographic results using the 6 speed / class SDHC card . I don't know what camera the reviewer below used saying it doesn't take 6 speed / class cards . . . my VPC-CG10 camera does . I swear , either all these bad reviewers work for a Sanyo competitor , or they never read their manuals and / or don't know a thing about cameras ( especially this one ) or photography . I don't know what it is , but with almost all these bad reviews . . . I don't think they have the same camera as me ! That's all for now . I will update with more later when I have more time to read through these competitors bad reviews of this great camera . I hope I helped ! BUY THIS CAMERA ! You won't be disappointed .
    • 006 4  For the price , this is a great little dual camera . It is just the right size ( easily fits in a pocket ) takes good standard and HD video and acts as a servicable point and shoot digital camera . Here are some cons : * Proprietary USB - What's up with that ? Sanyo - stick with micro or mini USB like every other camera on the market ! * 5X Optical Zoom - Ok , I know you'd need a bigger lens for more zoom but for me I'd like a little more ( 12x would be fine ) . * No HDMI cable with it - I would have thought it would come with one * Battery needs to be taken out to be charged . * Camera sucks the battery down when plugged into the computer and it does not charge while plugged into the computer . Here are some pros : * Form factor - I've never had a pistol type camera and I really like it . * Controls are very simple and easy to use * Love that you can snap a picture while recording video * The 720p HD video is very good * It speaks well with my Mac thanks to mpeg - 4 . Plug the camera in and it opens up my camera right in iPhoto ' 09 * Good flash for such a small camera * Price and features for price paid So I bought this camera to take quick video and it has not disappointed . I have been looking at this for a while but could not find it available anywhere until May 1 . I purchased my camera at Radio Shack for $149 but even at $199 it's a good value . I tried an Apitek and Insignia and hated them both ( and they were a pain to get to work with a mac ) . They were priced comperable and I don't think they hold a candle to this . I've heard good things about Flip Mino but I just don't like them . So far so good . I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a dual camera that can be carried around in a pocket or purse for quick use when needed .
    • 007 4  These are the setting I have ended up with since buying this camera , and the picture is great ! ! There are a lot of test shots over [ . . . ] from various people who have actually have used this camera . Video Stabilizer - OFF ( you only need if you are shooting long distance , unless you pay for a Canon with optical stabilization , all digital stabilization cause the same wobble in the image ) Focus Mode - SPOT Exposure - MULTI ISO - AUTO ( setting the f . will allow the camera to choose the right ISO for the job ) White Balance - AUTO Exposure - Aperture locked at 3.5 ( The camera only has 3.5 - 3.7 f . so just lock it at 3.5 and shoot ) Face Chaser - OFF ( This just makes the image blurry when on ) High Sensitivity - OFF ( Only needed in low light , again all Video Chips of this type has noise ! ! The Flips have a lower f . but check out Vimeo to see why this is a better camera , search for CG10 and a guy has done side by side shots with both cameras ) Digital Zoom - OFF ( Again just makes the image bad ) Personally this is the best camera in its price range , only the Sanyo VPC-TH1 will beat this , but thats because its almost the same camera . This little thing is amazing . Don't listen to me , head over to Vimeo , search for CG10 and take a look at all the test shoots from me Nathan Hughes and Operator7G ( this guys did all the side by side with the Flips ! ! )
    • 008 4  We recently got the Xacti HD recorder to have a more portable solution than our other camcorders ( Sony Handycam and Canon Optura ) , and got this model due to the great price ( $190 at Amazon , and $200 at many brick-and-mortar stores ) . So far , we've been very pleased ! ZOOM 5x optical zoom doesn't compare to the 25x optical zoom we have on our Sony Handycam , but it's good enough ! Like I mentioned in my review for the Handycam , when you're zoomed in so much , you often need a tripod to help balance an otherwise very shaky video . The Xacti obviously was designed with the idea of convenience , rather than creating a super-strong zoom that'll result in many shaky videos . IT'S OPTICAL ZOOM , NOT DIGITAL ZOOM Unlike many other portable video solutions that boast digital zoom , this has optical zoom . For those who don't know the difference , optical zoom is tantamount to physically being closer to a subject , whereas digital zoom is more similar to zooming in on a picture on the computer . In other words , optical zoom is probably what you're looking for , since digital zoom results in loss of quality . This has 5X optical zoom , which like I said before , is more than enough for your portable video-capturing needs ! VIDEO QUALITY Looks great so far ! I was surprised that for only $200 we were able to get HD video . . . although I must emphasize that it is 720 , NOT 1080 which means it's HD but not officially true HD . . . in other words , while this has a noticeable improvement of quality over standard-definition ( which is 480 ) , it is not as perfect as say , the image quality you get on many Blu-Rays . Still , for the price , the video quality is perfect ! IMAGE QUALITY They say these are 10 megapixel images , but the pictures don't look so great in my opinion . Again , good enough for the price , especially considering this is primarily a VIDEO camera , not a still-photo camera : - ) I don't know why , but often times camcorders or other video-capture devices say that they can capture good photos , but I've felt that the images on said devices come out pretty weak , in spite of the strong specifications ! Either way , it is convenient to be able to take a picture on the go . CONVENIENCE OF FLASH MEMORY This is by far the best feature of the camera aside from its design ( which I'll get to next ) . Image quality and portability can only take you so far , but the best feature is that it takes SD cards which are cheap and affordable . I highly recommend the Transcend 16GB card / card reader bundle that sells for about $40 on Amazon , but you can get a smaller and cheaper alternative with the 8GB SD card that sells for about $20 . The beauty of SD cards is that they can hold a lot of video and then can easily be popped out and replaced ! Much better than relying solely on an internal hard drive , since you can keep capturing video on new cards without having to delete old footage ( although you could obviously delete old footage and reuse the card ) . With a 16GB card though , you'll have enough space to not have to delete for a while ( it takes something like 4 hours of HD footage ! ) DESIGN IS BRILLIANT I was looking into the Flip recorder line , but much prefer the Xacti's design ! It lends itself to simplicity ; while I never handled a firearm , I'd say it's design is similar to that of a gun in that you just point , and shoot ! MUCH more convenient than having a weird rectangular shape that you hold uncomfortably . The fact that the LCD display pops out and can rotate is also convenient , since your subject can watch the video you're recording of them ! Great , affordable solution . I don't mind that it's not true HD . . . the video quality is great ! As for image quality , although I personally thought it was weak , I remind you that you're purchasing this as a video camera first , and a still-photo camera second . I'm very happy with this purchase and highly recommend this !
    • 014 4  I am a fanatic when it comes to capturing memories with both photos and videos . I read lots of reviews before I bought a camera or a camcorder . I wanted an HD camcorder with a high megapixel camera . I wanted a good quality , low price hybrid camcorder / camera . I was very intrigued with this camera and compared to other hybrids , this was the best according to reviews . So I purchased it from amazon ( the pink was cheaper then the black ) I tried it out at my nephew's football game , set the camera to sports mode and took lots of pictures and HD videos . I was AMAZED and so was my husband ! It was evening time , the sun was setting and the picture quality was crystal clear . I could see every brick in the school and every blade of grass on the filed . The action shots did not come out blurry but took a perfect snapshot picture of my nephew in action . The camera is small , pocket sized and easy to use . I just keep it in my purse and take it with me everywhere . The only drawbacks that I found with this camera was the delay between pictures . You have to wait about 3 - 4 seconds before you can snap another picture . Other reviews recommend buying extra batteries off of ebay . Which I did - 2 batteries for $10 . AWESOME . Here are links to two accessories I bought for this camera from Amazon which I am very glad I did . 1 . Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader . You don't have to plug your camera into your computer and wait for it to download . Very easy . Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6 - S5W 2 . Flexible tripod , You can wrap it around tree branches and film from anywhere . Joby GP1 - E1EN Gorillapod Flexible Tripod ( Grey ) I am still trying to find a suitable case . I bought the Sanyo VCP-HCX2 Case . It did not fit so I am returning it . Overall I am very very happy with this purchase . EDIT : 3 MONTHS LATER - I am still happy with this purchase but not as ecstatic as I was when I first started using it . I would change my 5 star to 3 1 / 2 . There is just way to much noise in low light situations . It works great in well lit environment . Also if you are filming things from far away , it doesn't look HD anymore . I would describe this camera as a 10 megapixel HQ camera because in most situations , the video quality turned out HQ for me .
    • 016 4  After much research on the mini-HD cameras I narrowed my search down to two : The Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG10 and the Kodax Zi8 . I was able to find the Xacti locally and purchased it . At the default settings I was not impressed with the camera's picture quality indoors . Outdoors it did great , even on the default settings . With some tweaking of the settings , I was able to get very good to great indoor shots as well . I won't repeat all the settings , because they are mentioned in several other reviews . After having this for a couple of weeks , I was able to find the Zi8 , so I bought it locally as well and decided I would take back the camera that I liked least . I only had the Zi8 for one day before taking it back ! The reviews will tell you that the Kodak Zi8 is very good in low-light situations , but I was easily able to get a much better quality video with the Xacti in low light vs . the Kodak . Mind you , I did have to adjust the manual settings on the Xacti to do so , but the difference was significant . Also , since there are no manual adjustments that you can make on the Zi8 , you are stuck with what it determines to be best . When zooming in on an object , the Kodak would instantly change the light level and white balance in the video once you had zoomed in tight enough to sufficiently reduce the surrounding light . It was not a gradual progression as you zoomed , it was instant . Zoom back out , and it instantly changed again . And only two settings that I noticed , low gain and high gain . The high-gain video was terrible , so don't get the Zi8 thinking you can zoom in tight on an object . . . . the Xacti easily and clearly beat the Zi8 in the tight zoom , both indoors and out , and produced a notably clearer and sharper picture compared to the Zi8 . This is most likely due to the optical zoom on the Xacti compared to the digital zoom on the Kodak . As for the wide-angle ( if you want to call it that ) field-of-view , the Xacti wins in this category also . Though no one really mentions is , the Xacti has a high-gain setting also ( that you can enable or disable ) . You really need very limited movement with gain turned on , but as a test , I turned it on for a tight zoom ( since the Zi8 did ) , and the picture was far superior to the one the Zi8 produced . You'll end up with grain when you have the gain settings increased , but again , the grain on the Xacti was much less than on the Zi8 . I put the Xacti and Zi8 head-to-head in sevaerl different scenarios and the Xacti beat the Zi8 in every category except for one , and that is fast panning while shooting . To test this , I went and filmed cars driving by at 35 - 40 MPH and panned to keep them in the shot . With the Xacti , the houses in the background would lean one way or the other as I panned to keep up with the cars . This happened with the Zi8 too , but it was much harder to notice and honestly , almost non-existent with the Zi8 . The reason for this is simple though : I had the Zi8 on 60 FPS because it is capable of it , while the Xacti is only capable of 30 FPS . When you take twice the frames the distortion will be less . With both set at 30 FPS , they produced similar results . I did not notice other distortion issues such as when cars drove by and I did not try to track them to keep them in frame ; they were clear and not distorted . The one-click white balance on the Xacti is really nice too and works quite well to get accurate colors . It's too bad its buried in the menus , but hey , you only have to set in once per lighting situation while you are shooting . I also liked the much more common file-format ( MP4 ) of the Xacti compared to the Zi8 MOV file format . Bottom line , the Xacti is a much better camera than the Zi8 IMHO , especially if you don't mind playing around with the manual settings on the Xacti ( the Zi8 doesn't really have any ) . The optical zoom is better on the Xacti and the EIS sucks equally on both cameras ; you'll want to disable it anyway . The Kodak can shoot at 30 FPS 1080P , compared to the Xacti 30 FPS at 720P , but you are wasting space shooting at 1080P anyway unless you are using a camera with a big sensor ( three big sensors , to be exact ) that can really capture true HD . However , I did like the 60 FPS , 720P on the Zi8 . If the Xacti could shoot in 60 FPS at 720P then the leaning while panning issue would be less of an issue and the Xacti would be a nearly perfect mini camcorder . The fact that it cannot do 60 FPS is my only complaint with it . The other thing that I wish it had was an external mic jack ( which the Zi8 has ) , but I can live w / o that because I probably wouldn't carry around an external mic anyway . Neither is a perfect camcorder ; that would easily cost you 1000 + and you'll have to lug it around . If you want ease of use and do all your shooting outdoors , the Zi8 is probably the way to go . If you want some control over your shots , wider FOV , better indoor shots ( and equally good outdoor ones ) , and optical zoom , then the Xacti is your best bet . If what you are really concerned about it picture quality , then the Xacti beats the Zi8 in every area except fast panning , as long as you are willing to tweak the settings , which I have down to about 20 seconds or so to set up each time I shoot .
    • 038 4  We got this Sanyo Xacti 720p HD camcorder a little before Christmas 09 to start making some family video while the kids are young .
    • 046 4  I had a Flip , and wasn't so sure about it , then tried this Sanyo camera .
    • 048 4  I purchased this camera for my son ( 15 years ) , when I asked how he would rate it he gave me a 4 out of 5 he really likes the camera but says he is really disappointed with the low light capabilities of the camera .
    • 076 4  This camera is perfect to capture that memorable family moment . . .
    • 128 4  Before i bought this camcorder , i have been looking online for one that suits me . Unfortunately i was hoping for a good indoor camera and this camera isnt so great at it . Indoor footage really looks grainy and blurry . The things i love about this camcorder are : The outdoor footage is AWESOME , man it looks great on my pc but on my HDTV it is blurry because i dont have the composite cables overall it is a great camera and i recommend it

  • Smart , Intuitive design makes this camera very easy to use .
