Toshiba Mini NB205-N230 (NB200 series) 10.1-Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

  • 55PM or five til midnight . That's 12 hours being off AC power . I am at 13% battery life . Subtracting time for my nap and TV watching , I had roughly 9 hours of battery life . This was only using it to surf and chat . I haven't run youtube videos or anything like that . I didn't do any energy savings to try and get more life from it . I used whatever it defaults to and I'm really happy with it . Before when I tried to conserve battery the screen would be so dark I could barely see it . This has been a pleasure to use . I've used it on my lap all day . No heat issues . The palm rest stays cool and the bottom is barely warm . I've yet to install any ' ' real ' ' programs on here besides Aim . I will attempt Microsoft Office 2007 once I have that 2GB stick and i'll let you all know how that goes . I have a 2GB stick coming tomorrow . I will update more later . Also , I'm completely use to the keys now . My one point off is for the sound . Its REALLY low . It is a netbook , but if sounds important to you without using a headset , this isn't the netbook for you . * * End of Update 2 * * * * Update three * * I plugged the net book in last night a little after midnight at 10% remaining charge . I find while the battery last a long time , it takes a long time to charge . I took about 3 hour and 40 minutes give or take a few minutes to go back to 100% charge . Still , for the battery life you get I think thats small , however it may stop you from wanting to buy a second battery . Another side note , I'm finding a few of my XP / Vista programs won't install . Microsoft messenger and Aim installed fine . My 3m Post-it-notes ( XP and Vista compatible ) won't . This isn't because of the netbook but because of windows starter . Apparently if you upgrade to one of the the other Windows 7 offerings , their is compatibility with XP and Vista . Windows 7 Starter is crippled because of this . They've even taken away your ability to change your desktop background , you have to pay the 80 dollar premium if you want these features . I thought I would point this out , while 80 for an Upgraded OS is not bad , it is expensive when its nearly 1 / 4 the cost of the netbook . XP while old was still a full OS and I myself never had a problem with it getting the job done . If you wait until there is a Windows 7 Version you'll be fine but it could mean buying software over you already own , making Microsoft's upgrade cheaper in the end . I just popped in 2GB of memory . I can confirm the one spot that gets warm on the netbook is the memory . I'm very surprised I feel no heat from the hard drive . This review has turned into a book . I may comeback if I find anything worth while to inform you about . * * End of update Three * * * * Update 4 * * Per request , I've started testing video playback . I played a couple of YouTube videos and the playback was pretty smooth . I didn't notice any jerkiness and it was actually better then I thought it would be . I also watched a few clips on Hulu and as long as it wasn't in full screen mode , playback was pretty smooth . In full screen model I notice some very subtle frame drops or skips . I say subtle because I was studying it to see if I noticed anything . If I hadn't been looking for it I'm not sure if it would have hampered by experience or not . I finally tested a pair of headphones and Music playback was smooth and nice and loud , so a headset won't be an issue with this Netbook . I noticed when I'm installing programs that the memory does heat up . Thats the only time I noticed it heating up beyond its normal temps . I wish I had a temp monitor so I could see what idle temps are . If I find one I'll post it . If you want better Video playback , go with the HP 311 . The Nvidia ION 9400 is going to be a lot better for video and output in HD . * * end of update . * * * * Update December 10,2009 * * I wanted to revise and add a new negative to my review . First the sound I discovered once I plugged my headset in and the realtek manager pops up showed the sound wasn't all the way up . So my sound isn't as weak as I thought . However it is still low just not nearly as bad as I first thought . My main negative , I notice every now and then when using the touch pad that it won't response to my finger swipes . This last for 1 to 5 seconds and then its fine again but it is annoying when it happens . I would say it happens several times a day now for me . I did some searching around and it seems this is a issue a lot of people are having . It cropped up on Toshiba's forums if anyone wants to do a search on it . Since my sound isn't quite as horrible and now I have this touch pad issue , I'll leave my review at 4 stars . Hopefully Toshiba will come up with a fix . * * End of Update . * * I think that about covers it . Feel free to comment and leave questions and I will answer them if you need help deciding if you want to buy it . I will be real curious to see how this stacks up against the HP Mini 311 when it comes in .
    • 001 4  Well , it looks like I'm first . I have this dream of having a laptop in every room that I use a lot in the house . Mainly my living room and bedroom . I already had two work laptops in my home office and call me lazy but I was tired of carrying the one I use out of the office , up and down the stairs , running out of battery and having to go get the power cord . I decided a netbook might be a good choice for my minor chatting and surfing . I couldn't decided between this model and the HP Mini 311 . I ended up ordering the HP and buying this one at my local store . This model is very slick looking . I got the Blue one and its very elegant . You wouldn't mind being seen out with this laptop . When I got it home I took it out of the box . The battery was already in the netbook but had 0 power so I needed to charge it . I haven't yet tested how long the battery lasts , I'll come back to update that . Out of the box the laptop had me name my netbook then it found my wireless router right away . That was really nice not to have to configure anything . I just put in my routers password and I was on . No work , no hassle no headache . My unit is running Windows 7 starter edition . I see the Win7 has moved the programs you are running to the bottom of the screen , similar to Mac's Dock . Microsoft could have made them look a little better but that has nothing to do with this netbook . I had a few concerns owning a netbook . My husband has one of the original eee Asus Netbooks and I can't type on those to save my life . Not to mention they get hot enough to cook on . So going in I knew I did not want these two issues . I have on a pair of thermal ( like long johns ) material PJ's and this netbook has been surfed on and chatted with on Aim for the last 7 hours straight . I played a 7 minute youtube video about 10 times trying to get the bottom of the netbook hot . The netbook is a little warm but it never got so uncomfortable I needed to put a book under it . I can't tell you how happy I am about that . The trackpad is nice and wide but I have on accident hit it a few times . I think once i'm use to typing on it , this will improve . If not , hopefully I can disable it . The keyboard is the chicklet style I believe they call it . Similar to those on the MacBook . They are really pretty silver finish but they are also smooth and a little slippery . I think my biggest gripe with this is that they are evenly smooth across the keys . I think a dip in the keys would have given these a better feel . Still for a netbook the spacing on them is quite usable . I really like the blue and silver color scheme of this netbook . Its small and light weight and I think I can fit it in my purse . And with 9 hours of battery life , I can see why netbooks are really taking off . So far I've only ran into one issue . I had about 12 IE tab windows in total open and I was in chat and I hit a slow down where IE barely responded . At the time my memory was nearly 800MB . I think once I take this up to 2 gigs then it will be fine . I've since installed Google Chrome and its been even more snappy . This unit has a generous amount of USB connectors . At 3 it has more then my MacBook has which is great in this tiny package . It also has a ethernet port , Mic and Headset jack , and of course a SD / SDHC card slot . With its long batter life , like weight , great style , I think I am going to enjoy carrying this around and not minding it . My youtube video up until I had to much running actually played quite well . I didn't notice any slow downs until I over taxed the system . This notebook is almost perfect . The biggest gripe of all I have is the sound . Its nearly non-existent on this netbook . I think the biggest issue is the placement of the speaker . Its underneath the netbook and gets covered by your lap . Nothing a headset can't solve but I thought I would point it out . * * Update * * I wrote this at 3am and in my rush to get to bed , I forgot to mention two important things . 1 . The screen . The screen is just gorgeous for a netbook . Its bright , and colorful and even when you pull it off of AC power to go to the battery it dims a little but not so much that it becomes uncomfortable . Keep in mind it does have a terrible 1024 x600 which only affects how much scrolling you'll do . As far as text goes , its very sharp and readable . 2 . The Battery . I'm currently using the Netbook on battery and I find that it remains cool . It hasn't heated up on me after about an hour of use . The next part about the battery is that it juts out the back about an inch so that its not flush against the netbook . This will probably mean you may have to get a bigger case besides the 10.1 inch size . Even though the battery sticks out the back , it does sit flat on a flat surface . The battery doesn't raise the back end up at all . * * End of Update One * * * * Update Two * * As promised I said I'd be back after testing the battery . I unplugged the AC power at exactly 12 Noon . Between 12 noon and 12 midnight , I've had a 2 hour nap , and 1 hour watching my favorite TV show . The netbook set idle and went into sleep mode during those times . Before I went to sleep I stuck my iPhone on it so it could charge it . This took my battery down to about 94% by the time I awaken again . It is now 11 : 55PM or five til midnight . That's 12 hours being off AC power . I am at 13% battery life . Subtracting time for my nap and TV watching , I had roughly 9 hours of battery life . This was only using it to surf and chat . I haven't run youtube videos or anything like that . • 043 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I just got my NB205 in the mail yesterday and I can say I LOVE IT ! . I think of myself as a very computer savvy guy ( not some bum ) . It is perfect for what I bought it for : taking notes in class and traveling . - What I like about is the fact that it is a fast little thing for what components are in it . - The battery life is very good they say 9 hours but its really around 7 ( that's still really good ) . - It looks very appealing , very pretty . - Full key board is nice , some of the buttons ( enter and the right shift ) are a bit small but i got used to it . - writing papers on this thing will be very nice ! Things to keep in mind : - Windows 7 starter - It is not a full OS though if you don't care about style / personalization / etc this works well . Though I care about having my full OS so i bought a student copy of windows 7 ( ultimate ) for $30 [ . . . ] . Take in mind that you need to be a student ( or at least have an email address that ends in . edu . - If you want a computer to mostly just be on the internet ITS PERFECT ! Don't get this if you are wanting to get any game play or lots of hard processes . - The mouse pad is easily touched by your thumb while typing , though there is an easy fix for this . Go into your mouse pad software and look for something that says tap click and there will be many options to play with . ( if you install a Real copy of windows 7 you will have to download the Synaptics driver enable to do this . ) - The cam sucks ; .2 mgp is not good at all , very pixelated images . You are not buying this for a webcam you are buying this to have a small computer . If you want a better webcam for this computer go to the store and drop $30 on a nice webcam . - Upgrade your RAM its cheap , on here i got it for $44 . I did research and found that it is the cheapest you will find it any where else ( if the price has gone up , I'd look around a bit ) . You do have to install it yourself , though this is super easy : unscrew a panel in the bottom of the NB205 and take out the old one and pop the new one back in . Screw the panel back in , and POOFFFF you now have two gigs of RAM ! Like I said : I just got this computer so I have not spent too much time with it . If I find any problems or benefits I will post them later on .

    • 074 4  This is now previous generation model . I got it for well under $300 . I still highly recommend it . BTW , I upgraded mine to 2gig . Pros * Excellent lcd color and brightness * Best in class netbook keyboard . Similar to apple's chiclet keyboard . Nice feel and keydepth for the smaller than standard key . Really like arrowpad layout . * Feels quite durable * I actually like how 6 - battery sticks out the back , acts as a handle to hold on to when using the computer , standing up draped over your forearm . * Neato HDD shake protection with 3D sensor . When you shake it the hard drive moves the arm to safe area . You can watch hdd applet shows the hard drive arm and orientation as you rotate the netbook . * Good wifi range . I get noticeably better wifi signal detection on this than my other laptops . * Big touchpad ( note in cons , bottom touchpad unusable ) * Lighted power button below screen acts as keyboard light ( which could also be a con , I like it ) * I like startup / shutdown time , less than half minute - - first time it may be slower , as windows 7 configures the system . 5 second sleep / wake time . * Includes bluetooth , which is no longer included in current gen Cons * Tiny single speaker . Out of the box , it's only ok for windows beep noises . You can make it usable loud by turning on loudness equalization from control panel > Sound settings > Realtek HD driver * touchpad is not usable at the bottom 3 / 4 inch . It looks and feel likes touchpad , but your scrolling and pointer will just stop before touching the buttons . A shame , that the touchpad isn't as big as it looks . * no multitouch touch pad that current gen touchpads support . But AFAIK , Windows 7 starter does not support multitouch anyway . * typical bloatware . chuck it . * no screen rotation . I could not find a way to activate hardware screen rotation to use it vertically like a ebook reader . I tried registry hack , freeware hardware rotation util , googling , nothing . I wonder if linux intel drivers are capable of rotation ? Anyway , as a satisfactory work around I use foxit pdf reader and fbreader ebook ( epub ) reader , both of which have software screen rotation and full screen feature that makes this an ebook reader ( nb : can't read drm books ) . * No wifi N . But when would you really want to use N speed on a netbook ? Not like you are going to be hard core gaming or streaming HD videos to it . * How do I create and restore system backup without DVD ? I'm hoping I can do it from a usb stick . Misc * Windows 7 Starter is fine by me . The main complaint seems to be about lack of wallpaper customization . Big whoop . When I'm working on my laptop I'm not looking at my wallpaper . I put the picture gadget to put in the center of the desktop . If you want to use it as a digital photo frame , use the photo screensaver . Done . * Non HD videos only . All my 720x480 DVD and TV shows run fine . Once you get to 720 line videos ( which won't fit on a 600 line screen anyway ) , the CPU is chocking . Goes without saying , serious gaming is a no go . * Battery life around 6.5 hours , I'm a heavy user , using lots of multimedia , loaded 10 programs . I upgraded 2gig , bright screen . * Charge from 5% to 100% in 4 hours . * Suspend mode uses 1 watt . Normal use is 10 to 15 watts . Except when I transport it , I usually keep mine on suspend mode instead of shutting down . * For videos I downloaded the CCCP codec / video pack Note * Upgrade your webcam software from panasonic support site . It's much better . * Upgrade HDD driver from Panasonic support site , the machine shuts down faster
    • 129 4  I rated this item 4 stars only because it's not as robust as a laptop can be . . . but in the realm of netbooks , I'd give it 5 stars . So , think of it as 5 stars for a netbook , and 4 four stars for a laptop overall . So far , so good . I think my only gripe is about the keyboard , but only about one little part of it . The tilde key ( ~ - this character ) , which is ALWAYS under the ESC key and to the left of the 1 / ! key , is for some inexplicable reason crammed in along the bottom row , left of the spacebar , along with ALT , Windows , FN and CTRL . . . and because of this , I've often pressed it by mistake when trying to press the ALT key . The space it normally occupies is empty , so I can't help but scratch my head at that design choice . Other than that little goof , though , I'm happy with computer . . . and it feels like a step-up from my old Acer Aspire One . Oh , and the gigantic , tumor-like battery jutting from the back is a little less than attractive , but the battery life makes up for it . ( Which , by the way , is no where near the 9 hours they claim . . . but it does clock in at a respectable 7ish ) .
    • 134 4  Before purchasing this netbook I spend days researching the best laptop for my needs . Like most students , long battery life was number one on my list . Since I already had a Toshiba laptop I known the computer are well build . I decide to wait till Windows 7 came out and there was a some review . One thing that most people didn't like was not being ability to change wallpaper . While not critical to the operation of the netbook , this is a pointless and very annoying feature to leave out . When searching for a solution to this , I found several websites that showed you step by step how to change the wallpaper and programs that did it for you . The program I would recommend to anyone with a Window 7 netbook is Oceanis Change Background W7 . This program is free and can be found by copying and pasting the program name in the google search bar or clicking on the link below . After downloading the program I changed my background and was able to make a sideshow as my background . Other than the background problem I LOVE THIS NETBOOK . If your weighing your mind about the best netbook for you this is the one . Oceanis Change Background W7 [ . . . ] .
    • 143 4  This Netbook is a solid choice . Well built and good looking too . I would add the next 2 points to the existing database of reviews : - comes loaded with a lot of toshiba utilities . Some good but overall seems to slow down the boot up . Havent tried to remove them yet . - this is more windows 7 starter issue . It does not support home microsoft networking , so can't map drives or share files / directories . You have to upgrade and that costs like $60 . . wanted to load a tftp server then but could not find a good windows 7 compatible freeware . Want to downgrade to XP but I read that I have to make sure all device drivers exist . . . . Got not time to do all that.sucks Upgraded to 2Gb RAM , which seems to have improved the speed overall

  • 017 4  I spent hours researching different netbooks and decided to go with the Toshiba . It has the speed and power expected with excellent battery life . I use MS Office 2007 with Word , Excell , PowerPoint , etc and this netbook has no problems in running these . I even use Proshow Gold to create videos on it . It is light weight and stylish . I made a Skype video call and had no problems . While I would never recommend a netbook for high resolution games , I do recommend this netbook for the web , research and other productive duties where a small package is desired . The clarity of the LCD is the best of all of the others in it's class as far as I am concerned .
    • 048 4  This product is excellent ! The only thing I've had a problem with is trying to upgrade the Windows 7 from Starter to Home Premium or Profesional . But I suspect the problem is not the computer but Microsoft's servers which don't recognize my home address as valid no matter how I try to write it . I've had the same home address for 20 years and it is compliant with all USPS requirements and all my mail arrives without a problem , including the notebook in question , which was delivered by FedEx .
    • 121 4  The size of this netbook and its long life battery ( 9 hours ) makes it very convenient for traveling .
    • 125 4  Experienced computer / laptop user , first notebook and exposure to Windows 7 Startup . Bought for improved portability particularly use laying down in bed reading ebooks and listening to BBC podcasts . After a month I'm very impressed , satisfied . adjusting to operating system and keyboard . Have just bought external Toshiba CD / DVD drive . Suggest you buy an inexpensive Logitech wireless mouse . Battery life impressive and extensively used . Web access seems to be improved over older XP Toshiba laptop ; primarily use ATT G3 phone connection . One trick : I've attached the computer using velcro to a kitchen plastic cutting board to assure bottom ventilation and border of board protects connections . Don't think that I will transition from my laptop to this netbook entirely ; keyboard and screen size are limiting . XP software programs including security software seems to be installing and working without a hitch . Purchased through Amazon because of good past experience and price .
    • 141 4  This item exceeded my expectations ! Extrememly pleased - still evaluating battery life but no reason to question the advertised 9 hours to this point !

  • 062 4  Replaced an old Acer netbook with this Toshiba . Absolutely no comparison in quality and performance . This netbook has a nice sized keyboard . It comes with Windows 7 Starter which I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Edition . Also added more memory , and it runs very nicely . Battery life is also great . I didn't get the 9 hours it claims , but can go most of the day at least . I'm not a techno-geek so I can't give particulars , but I highly recommend this item with the Windows 7 Home Edition and memory upgrades . I LOVE THIS NETBOOK !
    • 131 4  RECEIVED TOSHIBA NETBOOK RIGHT ON TIME FOR CHRISTMAS FOR MY WIFE FROM AMAZON . EXCELLENT SERVICE AND MY WIFE LOVES THE TOSHIBA MINI NETBOOK . EXCELLENT COMPANY TO BUY FROM . THANK YOU FOR EXCELLENT SERVICE SAM BROWN DANVILLE VA

  • 064 4  I needed a light laptop to carry around and settled on the Toshiba because it has an excellent battery life , a pretty good keyboad and relatively large touchpad . I am a mac user , but can't afford a MacBook Air , but for my purposes the Toshiba works nicely , for a pc . I did install an extra gig of memory before I used it and also bought an external dvd drive to make a system backup and install software . The color is nice but the appearance isn't as sleek as I'd like because the battery is bulky , but obviously I can't have everything ! I do recommend it though , if you need a light laptop , it works .
    • 032 4  great little computer . works at many wi-fi sites . also can be uued with a router . it is small and takes some time to get used to . I bought it for travel and it works great and is very light .
    • 055 4  I bought this notebook for work . It's very light and easy to use . The battery seems to last 7 - 9 hours . The keyboard is comfortable . I have only two complaints : the screen is smaller than I would have liked and the mouse pad is very sensitive causing the mouse to jump around interupting typing .
    • 112 4  I would recommend this netbook to anyone who is looking to buy one . It's worth every penny . Windows 7 is great ! No problems .
    • 117 4  This product is absolutely wonderful . I am extremely pleased with it . The battery life is great , the screen size is perfect - not too big and not too small . It is exactly what I was looking for . I would definitely recommend this netbook .
    • 119 4  I think this is a great computer for casual use . I have had no problems at all . Cons it has no cd drive .
    • 133 4  I love this netbook . Everything is wonderful . The battery life is of no concern and its got a great operating temperature . The size is perfect .
    • 161 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I got it , so , so . I checked the price in sam's club , $299 . so this laptop on Amazon appears a little bit higher priced .
    • 162 4  I got it , so , so . I checked the price in sam's club , $299 . so this laptop on Amazon appears a little bit higher priced .
    • 170 4  It went up 20.00 from the time I put in my cart until I tried to checkout .

  • 073 4  I bought this netbook for travel . Got the extra memory and separate optical drive as well . I set up the rescue disks , loaded Office , and went off on a six week trip to Asia . The first time I used the netbook , I noticed that there was a problem with the sound . The internal microphone was always on and sending room and even keyboard sounds to the puny speaker , creating feedback and noise . The only way to stop it was to turn off the speaker . Plugging in a headset to use Skype revealed another problem . The audio software noticed that an external mic and headphone were attached . But no sound from the mic got into the computer . I bought another headset , thinking there was a problem with the microphone on my original headset . Same problem . The Toshiba on-line forums were no help . Many people complained of the problem but there were no solutions . I reinstalled the audio drivers . Same problem . I called Toshiba and the technician had me restore the original operating system . After that 3 hour ordeal , the original problems were still there . Now Toshiba wants me to return the defective unit to them , at my expense , so they can try to repair it . While I was drawn to this unit because of its lightness and long battery life , in reality it has turned out to be a big letdown . Toshiba shipped me a defective netbook but I have to pay to return it to them . This was my second Toshiba laptop . It will be my last .

    • 081 4  I ordered a mini NB205 with atom N280 Intel processor . It has 250G hard drive , built in web camera , several USB2 slots , an SD slot for the digital camera card , a full size keyboard , runs Win 7 starter , and is black , for about $320 . I have had it for 2 months , and have been traveling most of that time , though I had a week to set it up before we left . I am very satisfied with it , especially it portability and functionality . I don't do graphics-intensive stuff . I do WiFi email , some web surfing , Office stuff , Skype , some Bible software , and save my pictures . The only thing I am not very satisfied with is the sound quality of Skype calls , but I expected that based on reviews I read before buying it . Probably I would be happy with a headset , but then my wife cannot join the conversation with grandchildren . I still have well over 200G of space on my HD . I charge it for an hour or so in the morning after I get up , and that is usually enough for use throughout the day . I have had not problems with it . I figured out how to load software from DVDs via my laptop which is part of my home network . I have not noticed any limitations with the OS ; my other PCs run XP . I recommend it for anyone who has a similar use profile .
      • 003 4  Before buying a netbook , I did a lot of research and determined that the Toshiba NB205 series would be best for me . Instead of buying it immediately and having Windows XP as my OS , I decided to wait a few days until Windows 7 was released . The only problem I encountered was that the scroll built into the touch pad stopped working . I figured that it had something to do with the 6 Windows updates I did , so I restarted the netbook and it worked fine again , and I haven't had the problem since . After getting used to the netbook , I decided to download some wallpaper , so I searched for some good 1024x600 images , and discovered what everyone else with Windows 7 Starter quickly found out : you can't change the wallpaper . While not critical to the operation of the netbook , this is a pointless and very annoying feature to leave out . When searching for a solution to this , I found several other features that Windows 7 Starter leaves out ; You can't change themes No personalization Can't log out No DVD support No XP mode There are more features left out , but the point is , there is no reason I should be paying more for a netbook with Windows 7 Starter than the same netbook with Windows XP , when 7 limits what I can do . Right now I am considering trying to return this for a full refund or seeing if I can load a Mac OS on . Again , the netbook is a good choice , but pay attention to the operating system before buying .
      • 066 4  I love my Toshiba , aside for the OS this is a great purchase I am loving it , it is so small and easy to use . . . Great delivery service .
      • 154 4  This netbook has a great look and finish to it . I like the keyboard and the mouse pad . The 6 - cell battery that extends out towards the back is not a problem to me either , rather than extending downwards like in some other netbooks . The only drawback to this netbook is the sound quality ; I think it could be better , and would have made it perfect , deserving a 5 - star . I am not so impressed with Windows 7 . I think it is not worth the extra cost , Windows XP would have been sufficient .
      • 168 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 Series 10.1 - Inch Netbook ( 250GB Hard Drive ) ( Personal Computers ) The Netbook I love ! The OS is cheap . . . We Will upgrade from the Windows 7 Starter Edition , Should have been at least a higher addition ! Still a great net book !

    • 093 4  The net book works great and satisfied my requirement to get on the internet on the go and a fairly large amount of memory for a net book . The Windows 7 starter operating system is a little limiting especially when setting up networks to transfer large amounts of data between the netbook and my desk top but acceptable work arounds are available . I will probably upgrade the operating system but hate spending the extra money . The battery life is excellent . The screen is excellent . The video is excellent . The volume of the speakers are really bad and can just barley be heard in a very quiet environment . In a slightly noisy environment , such as outside or in a car there is no chance of hearing the audio . Head phones or external speakers are required . This might be a problem with my specific netbook since it is so bad . Amazon purchase was great , delivery good condition and fast .
      • 027 4  I purchased this netbook thru Amazon as a present for my wife . Short version , it doesnt work . I tried calling the Toshiba customer care numbers listed in the enclosed warranty information books and basically was given multiple versions of run around and transfers to other departments . When I finally spoke to someone that identified herself as a manager , I was immmediately greeted with attitude and indifference . STRONGLY recommend anyone considering a netbook purchase to look to other manufacturers . I am fed up with the corporate arrogance of Toshiba .

    • 096 4  I love this little laptop . I can put in my purse and carry anywhere . The battery life is better than great . The performance is also great , I was planning to upgrade RAM , but I have been pleased with speed and performance just like it is ! !
      • 083 4  fast to use and to the point just what i need

    • 106 4  Great little netbook . Was top rated by Consumer Reports . Granted this is not a gaming PC or any heavy CPU usage . It is great for E-mail , Web Surfing , Face Booking , and other light duty processes , which was my expectation . When using a antivirus and fire wall product choose one with less overhead . I use Bitdefender rather then Norton . It has not broken on me so I can't report on customer service , however I did purchase an Amazon 2 year extended warranty just in case . I figure if it lasts for 2 years it will keep going and going . Just remember it is a small portable unit that doesn't have bells and whistles with special features . It is a great little e-mail , Face Book , Web surfing , long battery netbook . Battery makes it a little heaver then other netbooks , but then it lasts about eight hours with continuous use .

      • 113 4  Sold my full size laptop to buy this and was concerned I might be shorting myself on performance . However , for web browsing , mail , letter writing etc there is no drop off in performance . I would opt for the additional 1mb of memory but that aside I am very pleased . At about half the weight and size it's easy to throw in a carry-on bag and take along when the full size laptop might have been objectionable .
        • 046 4  I am really fond of small things , and computers are one of these . This netbook really gives you the things that you need in a netbook , fast boot up and does not hang up . Keep it up Toshiba !
        • 050 4  This is the fourth Toshiba and the second netbook I have owned . They just keep getting better and better !
        • 094 4  This netbook works better than my 4 year old laptop ! but is less than half its size ! even though it is supposed to be used for Internet use , pictures . . . I have my full size softwares , such as scientific word and mathematica . . . and they run perfectly . Veyr light and fits in my purse .
        • 098 4  It has Windows 7 , is light and extremely portable , and I use it for email and searching for local info when I travel . touch pad is easy to use , and keyboard is a nice size considering the overall netbook size .
        • 102 4  Very pleased with the appearance and operation of this unit . Windows 7 seems to be an improvement over Vista . The price was very good and shipping was super fast .

      • The transaction ocurred in matter of minutes . The purchase cleared out and it was getting ready to be shipped in no longer than 1 hour . #2 The Shipping : I payed next day and the item arrived with Fedex next day on time no delays , no problems , perfect . #3 The Toshiba : Windows 7 Starter : The first two days I was a little doubtful about the Windows 7 Starter . That was my main concearn about this Toshiba . I knew I wanted the Netbook since I watch many reviews on youtube and some sites and the Toshiba reated 4 to 5 stars in all . You know how it is , you get your Netbook , and you just want to start using it asap , you don't want to re install any OS or nothing like that . I was looking other brands ( before the purchase ) that came with Win XP and I was thinking about installing XP instead of Win 7 for compatibility reasons and the posibility to use all available software instead of limiting myself into what Win 7 could give me . 3 weeks later Im keeping the Win 7 . I works very good . It looks good , never crashes , its fast and it gets the job done . So don't worry about the operative system the Toshiba comes with . Keep it and use it . You will find it friendly and simple . Forget about changing the wallpaper or customizing the look of windows , what you get with Win 7 , its what you keep . But its fine , you can add some gadgets on the desktop like a clock or calendar or a slideshow and after you install a couple of things , the desktop will have some icons on it that added to the gadgets will take the wallpaper issue out of your head since you will realize its useless . Video and power : I installed everything on it : Games , video editing software , sound editing software , image editing software , 3D software , Office , Movies in HD , all sorts of applications and many more things ( gps , mobile internet . . . ) . Regarding games , I am playing Max Payne 2 and it flies . Morrowind 3 , Moto GP 3 , Halo , Rainbox Six 3 ( they all run good in max resolutions and full graphics believe it or not ) . So regarding the Intel videocard , IT ROCKS . It won't run Crysis or Oblivion 4 or Resident Evil 5 or GTA4 but all games from say . . .2006 and below , it will run them pretty good . Some games won't run of course since its not Win XP but most of them ( the ones that have a good code on them ) will . The screen resolution and colours are excellent . Trust me , this Toshiba screen looks better than most Laptops I've seen . The image is crisp and clear and bright enough to make the colours look like a dream . The blues and greens in Avatar look amazing ( in HD ) . Sound : The sound in the Toshiba comes out in one single speaker that is located on the bottom of the Netbook . This sucks of course . However lets be real , you will not be using this thing as the only sound source on a rave party . I added some nice headphones and the sound is just simply superb . Add some nice speakers at home to have your mp3 ' s sound in high volume and you will find out that after taking the single speaker out of the ecuation , any other form of headphones or speakers will satisfy your every need . The 3 - d sound simulations that Win 7 offers really works and at least I am happy about it . Hardware in general : The CPU and RAM are fine just like they come . If you want , and specially if you are one of those people that like things to happen really fast , you can add 1GB of extra RAM and you are set . I am not kidding , this thing is pretty fast , and with one more gig of RAM is superman . I never added the extra RAM , since I never needed to . But believe in the power of this Toshiba since it can take you pretty far away . Compared to other Laptops I've seen , this little baby take cares of the same tasks and needs you might have faster than its big sisters . Keyboard and touchpad : Keyboard is as big as the keyboard of any regular Laptop or Desktop . SAME SIZE . Meaning its not only simple to type on it but it will fit most hands and fingers in a comfortable way for long writting periods of time . The touchpad has the same aspect ratio of the screen , making it very simple to move arround and browse . Really neat and comfy . General Look : The Netbook looks really cool . The keys design , the screen , the piano finish on the cover , the black colour all arround it , the leds , the TOSHIBA brand printed on the cover also , and all arround it in general , it looks like a James Bond thing or maybe more like a nice High Tech toy that can be easly featured in a movie . Nice , slick and catchy . Eye candy . People looks at it and they don't ask me what kind of system it is , the first thing that say is Hey that's a nice Net ! , how much did you payed for it ? Battery : And for the big finale , the battery . The star of this little baby of mine . In full charge it can back you up for NINE hours . Yes 9 ! . Its amnazing , you charge it in like 2 hours and it runs for 9 straight in full usage . In sleep mode it can run much much more of course . Travels , camping , outdoors , a long night of work or movie watching , several trips to college : forget recharge . 9 hours is the hole idea of a portable ! Or isnt it ? There is no point in having a Netbook that will endure 4 hours and drop dead begging for a re charge . Imagine 9 hours of independent usage and you will realize you can get this Toshiba everywhere . Price , performance , design , it all adjusts to this Netbook to be an accesible product that can compete with the big Laptops at the same level and outrun most of them . Buy it .
        • 005 4  I actually bought the NB205 - N330BN , pre-ordering it from amazon , so this review is by an actual owner . In addition to this netbook , I also own 2 desktops ( one I built myself ) and two laptops . Before buying , one needs to realize the limitations of a netbook . It's not meant as a replacement for your desktop or laptop . I bought it for remote access to my company's server so I could prepare reports from the road and not have to drive 1 - 2 hours to my office . For this and for internet browsing , it has been perfect . Two others in my office have Asus and HP netbooks and this Toshiba blows them away , if for nothing else the keyboard layout . Wi-fi reception has been much better than the laptop I previously used , so I have no complaints at all . Windows 7 Starter has been fine . I didn't need all the bells and whistles and stupid Windows tricks . No wallpaper ? Who cares ? All I can suggest is that you do your research to make sure a netbook fits your needs . Read the reviews and visit a retail outlet to check out the various models , keyboard layout , etc . At this time I highly recommend the Toshiba . I thought my wife might complain about the brown color , but she and everyone else loves it . A nice change from black or blue .
        • 006 4  I've been browsing around for awhile in search of the right netbook and I finally ( sorta ) settled down on this Toshiba mini NB205 N330 . I say sorta because I actually haven't bought it yet but I've tested it - - as well as other netbooks - - numerous times whenever I visit an electronics store . A great feature of this netbook is its keyboard . I'm mainly using this netbook to takes notes in class and the buttons are the right size for my fingers which makes typing a whole lot more efficient and satisfying . I find myself making less typos with this extra space in between each button than when I was testing with other netbook keyboards . There is a ~ $20 difference between the Toshiba N225 and N330 . And that's because the N330 can hold 250GB ( instead of 160 ) of HD space and supports bluetooth . Currently , all netbooks won't have any other versions of Windows 7 other than the Starter so its unfair to rate a netbook off of its OS . Theres a hidden link on Microsoft's website that allows students to order Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional for only $30 ( offer expires January 3rd I think ) so take advantage of that if you're a student . I've already ordered mine so I won't have to deal with Windows 7 Starter when I get my netbook . This netbook is a chip away from being perfect only because the speaker is terribly placed underneath the netbook which makes very poor sound . I really hope Toshiba is listening to reviews and fix the speakers . One more downside is the battery pack that sticks out a good inch or 1 / 2 inch . That means you won't be able to get a 10.2in case but rather go for something a little bigger OR a 10.2in case with a flap top . As for now , I will await for Black Friday and pray that this NB205 N330 will be on sale that very day . Even better would be if they release another version with improved sound and slap it on sale for black friday .
        • 009 4  After two weeks of use I am very happy with this netbook . I like the way in looks and feels , high quality . The upgrade to 2GB of ram was money well spent . It was 5 minute job ( including the time it took to find a small screw driver ) to change the ram chip and I immediately saw a noticeable increase in performance . I also purchased a Samsung USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive for Mac and PC SE-S084C / RSBN ( Gloss Black ) for installing software , ripping CDs , and watching movies . If you want to watch movies from the DVD I suggest that you install VLC Media Player , it works fine and it's a free download . The Nero software that came with the Samsung drive didn't work . I have read some reviews citing problems with the wifi and a Linksys router ; I have that setup and have experience no problems . I did stay at one hotel in France where sometimes the wifi would work and other times it wouldn't but I could never figure out if it was the Toshiba or the hotel . Two other hotels worked without a hitch . Pros : excellent keyboard , large mouse pad , finger-print resistant design , and high quality feel . Cons : over-sized battery , lo-res webcam , lack of N wifi , and old-school mouse pad ( no pinching or rotating ) .
        • 011 4  I received the Toshiba netbook two weeks ago . Needless to say , I spent some time setting it up for my preferences . This is my first Windows 7 PC . I found that the Windows 7 has some limitations with background settings , etc . I also noticed that the nice Windows Mail program ( from Vista ) was no longer available . I now use GMAIL . ANOTHER CON : The loudspeakers sound anemic and I needed earphones to really enjoy music . I especially like the keyboard . I got the hang of it in a very short time and was able to type emails and word documents with almost the same speed as on the full size keyboard on my desktop . After about one day I convinced myself that NB 205 with 1 GB of memory was rather slow . So I ordered the 2 GB extra memory from Amazon . After replacing the 1 GB with the 2GB , I found that the speed and response time picked up remarkably . I achieved even better speed and response times when I inserted a 4 GB high speed SD card into the available slot and activated the Speedbooster function . ( Available in Vista and W7 ) It uses the faster flash memory for paging instead of using the slower , hard disk . By now , this little netbook computer performs just about as well as my 6 GB HP desktop with Vista and a 2.4 MHZ processor . I like its looks , the small size , the keyboard , the speed . Quite a package . The display is crisp and clear . Battery life - outstanding . I used the NB 205 for 8 hours on batteries only , and never missed a beat . Wireless transmission seems to be working just fine .
        • 015 4  I read a lot of Mini Laptop reviews before choosing this Toshiba , I own 3 Dell laptops of various sizes and I was on the Dell web site about to order the Mini10v for 300 dollars when I started reading the reviews . For an extra 30 to 50 bucks I decided on the Toshiba . It looks great , its fast , keyboard is easy to use . The wifi connected automatically to my home network the first time I turned it on , It immediately found my DLink router and just asked for the password . It was incredibly easy . I am ok with the Windows 7 starter and see no need to upgrade to the Home Edition . The only thing that I miss is customizing the wallpapaer but I would not pay for that feature . I bought the Microsoft Ultimate Steal bundle available to college students which inlcuded WORD , EXCEL , Powerpoint and Publisher . The installed software had a trial version . If you choose not to buy it after the trial , you get Microsoft WORKS , The Mini is light and very easy to use . So far , its done everything my full size laptops do including internet , email and ipod itouch synching . Like all Minis , it does not have a CD / DVD drive . The model numbers are confusing . The older versions using Windows XP and have a smaller hard drive . The current model comes in a variety of colors which can have a big impact on the price . Basic Black is the cheapest but it still look great and sleek . Highly Recommended ! [ . . . ] [ . . . ] [ . . . ]
        • 019 4  This is my very first netbook , so I'll start by saying that this netbook is good for what it was meant to be , and whenever you're lounging in your room and just want to check your favorite websites do your homework late at night , watch a few videos , reply on forums . . . that's about it . This review will be based about the use of the netbook . I'm not going to point out Windows 7 features because this is not a review for an Operating System , as I will not compare it to the performance of a laptop or notebook . Before pointing out the strong , neutral and weak points of this laptop I'll note what I did after opening it from the box . First , I unpacked the netbook and charged the battery ( It comes discharged , read the instructions ) , I turned it on after a few minutes , set up Windows 7 in about 15 minutes , uninstalled all the junk-ware it has ( Norton , toolbars , Office 2007 trial , games . . . etc . ) and installed Google Chrome , the latest Flash Player and Avast Antivirus . So far here's what I have to say about this little netbook ( I will update later ) : PROS : - The packaging is very solid , the box is small and not heavy . - It's great for everyday tasks , browsing , video-watching , music-listening , photos . . . etc . - Runs Office 2007 without problems when you work with few documents at the same time . - Slightly faster compared to other brands of netbooks that I have tried , thanks to the Atom N280 . - Long battery life , with normal use and standard battery setting ( not Eco-Mode ) it can hold up to 6 - 7 hours . - I really like the overall design of the laptop , the power button in the middle is cool for turning it on without having to open the netbook . NEUTRAL : - YouTube videos run smoothly ; however , they tend to crack when I try to view them in HQ . - Glossy finish on the top , if you're used to these fingerprint magnets it won't trouble you . However , it has matte finish on the inside . - The battery takes good 2 - 3 hours to charge ( If not in use , else about 3 - 4 hours ) , but for a good 7 - 8 hours of real battery life I won't complain . CONS : - It can get considerably hot , not good for prolonged use on your lap ; mind you , it will not burn you , but it's very uncomfortable . - It has no Bluetooth connectivity , I bought a small Bluetooth dongle adapter separately . They're not expensive though . - The sound coming from the speakers is horrible and very quiet ( set at it's highest ) , you can listen to the sound but it won't sound pretty or normal ; instead , get a pair of headphones or earphones . - The trackpad gets in your way several times , it's too sensitive and whenever you type your palm can mess up what you were writting .
        • 020 4  I have had this little computer for about 2 weeks now , and I think its time for a proper review . I searched all over to try to find the best mini for a reasonable price . I settled on this because of the advertised battery life , the price and toshiba reliability . I am not a computer expert but i do use my machines for a lot of purposes and I demand a lot out of them . I put the battery life to the test and I was impressed . although I did not realize the 9 hours as advertised nor the 7 hours that most people said they got , I did manage to get in between 5 and half and 6 hours . This was during constant downloading , a 3 hour video chat , and various other operations . So keeping in mind that I was using this computers power heavily and I still got almost 6 hours out of the battery , I am impressed . some complained about the power button being illuminated just under the screen . Its not a problem , I barely notice it . Some complained about the touch pad being too sensitive and that they accidently touch it while typing and it moves the cursor all over the place , again not a problem for those who actually know how to type properly . some complained about the speaker not being very loud , well what do you expect from a compact laptop ? BOSE quality sound ? get over it , the speaker included is more than adequate . If you need to hear it better , then plug in a set of headphones . The thing to keep in mind if considering this as a purchase is that it is not a replacement for a more powerfull laptop or a desktop . But if your like me and you travel a lot , this thing is a lifesaver . As for windows 7 starter , its not that bad . the absolute only thing you cant do is change the backround . THATS IT ! It still networks , you can set whatever screensaver you want and you can even change the theme ( theme change takes a bit of work ) . Do not let the fact that this has the starter version of windows deter you , you wont even notice . All in all its a great little maching that by itself is way more powefull than the first desktop computer i had . Its perfect for travel and to have something in the house that you can carry around .
        • 024 4  I looked at every netbook currently available and in my opinion the Toshiba NB205 - 330 is the best ( you will definitlely want to add the 2gb memory ) ! I was originally going to buy an Asus netbook , but after seeing an Asus in the store-to me the Asus build seemed flimsy and cheap ( and a haven for your fingerprints ) . Not so with this high quality Toshiba netbook . There is a nice island style keyboard that is easy to type on , high quality components , and the finish doesn't show fingerprints ( anywhere on it ) so you aren't feeling a need to constantly wipe off your fingerprints . Also , with the 6 cell battery that last for up to 9 hours-what more could you want in a less expensive netbook ? ? ? I waited to order this netbook until it came with Windows 7 but was disappointed that it only comes with Windows 7 Starter ( no changes in desktop background or DVD playback if you purchase the external drive ) . You can currently upgrade Windows 7 Starter to the home version for approx . $80.00 and there's a convienient link to upgrade it in the software that comes on the netbook . My only complaint is the Microsoft was too cheap to put DVD playback in the version that they must have known was bound for these less expensive netbooks ! I have an external CD / DVD burner I would like to use to watch an occasional movie but to upgrade to Windows 7 home would really increases the overall price substantially . Thumbs down to Microsoft for making this decision ! : (
        • 026 4  I've had the NB204 - N230 for about a week now , and thought it time to write up a brief review . First , the unit itself is very well designed . It feels solid and well built , though the screen , when closed , does have a tendency to click the mouse buttons . This is a bit worrisome , but not horrible . The screen , when open and on , is visually stunning . Graphics are crisp and clear , text is very readable and easy to use . Note that this is a NetBook , and not a full laptop , so you have a much smaller screen ( 1024x600 ) which you will need to get used to . Battery power has been good so far . With WiFi running and apps going I can go for at least 4 hours . My guess is that the 9 hour quote was with WiFi off ( which is pretty standard in vendor battery tests ) . The hardware is sufficient to run Windows 7 with Aero ( the new interface ) turned on , including the Aero-Peek task-bar previews and effects . iTunes , Thunderbird , Word 2007 and other apps work smoothly , though video playback will stutter if there are other apps running . All-in-all , this is a well built system that exceeds other NetBooks in terms of power and function . Keep in mind that you are not getting a laptop here , so trying to run major apps like PhotoShop won't be a pleasant experience for you . The same goes for gaming and other high-processor useage apps . However , the NB205 - N230 is remarkably adept at handling email and office applications , remote access to other computers and surfing most web sites .
        • 028 4  I wrote out a nice , detailed review explaining why you shouldn't buy this netbook but it crashed while I was writing it . Twice . History : I bought it two weeks ago , original install , no additional programs , only Windows 7 Starter ( horrid OS , btw ) updates and Norton updates , etc . Read the Toshiba laptop forums and you'll see this isn't unusual . Toshiba Tech Support has not been able to fix most of the problems , including mine . After I performed the System Restore , as directed , it made the problem worse . Toshiba - so bad , you can't get through writing a review on it .

Buy it .
        • 034 4  The overall excellent performance of this small computer is essentially spoiled by a constantly erratic track pad . The cursor jumps around erasing entire sentence , jumps 4 lines down the page or jumps back 4 words in the line . You can't type an entire sentence without finding that the cursor has jumped to some random place and you're typing over your work , or you've jumped back to the middle of a word in the last sentence . The cursor freezes or staggers for several seconds at a time and it's not a matter of resources as I've monitored CPU usage during the malfunctions . A visit to Toshiba's Laptop forums shows that this is a common issue with many , many complaints and no responses from Toshiba . Toshiba released an updated driver for the trackpad on 10 / 20 / 09 : ALPS Pointing Device Driver for Windows XP and Windows 7 ( v7.2.302.203 ) that I downloaded and installed . The new driver did nothing to remediate the erratic track pad performance . The only solution at this juncture is to use an external mouse which partially defeats the advantage of a small , self-contained , easy to carry netbook . With an external mouse I can heartily recommend this netbook . Hopefully Toshiba will offer a patch at some time in the future to alleviate the erratic track pad performance that could make this netbook a pleasure to use .
        • 040 4  I needed this computer to use when I travel and for school . I did plenty of research and eventually settled on the nb205 - n230 because it had very good reviews on many sites and because I have owned Toshiba products in the past and am aware that they make a quality / reliable product . So far I have not been disappointed . This computer is definitely usable as is ( that is to say , you really don't need to upgrade the RAM or the OS at all . However , I still did ) . The startup is a little sluggish , but otherwise it runs multiple applications smoothly . The display is amazingly crisp and clear , and although the screen is small , I certainly find it adequate enough to view a couple browser windows or Word documents . The keyboard is also wonderful to use compared to some other small laptops . It feels almost exactly the same as a full sized ( probably because it is except for some of the command keys ) . The touch pad can be a bit finicky , however . It seems to lag sometimes or simply not respond when I use it . Also , as with many Toshibas , the scrolling has a tendency to quit unexpectedly at random times forcing you to uninstall / reinstall / rollback the driver for the touch pad until it works again . This is not a huge deal , but still a bit of a hassle . The battery life is probably the best thing about this product . They claim nine hours , and I don't think that's far from the truth . As the battery meter does not provide remaining time ( only percentage ) it is difficult to gauge exactly . I have not allowed it to deplete completely yet , but I can estimate ( based on current usage ) that it should get a true 7 - 9 hours or so when using multiple programs and complex webpages take . The operating system ( Windows 7 Starter ) is certainly enough to perform any tasks you would need to with this computer , but you will not have many of the nifty features that make Windows 7 so cool . I would urge anyone who is currently a student to take advantage of Microsoft's Ultimate Steal discount ( available until Dec . 31 ) and upgrade to Windows 7 Professional for only $29.99 . An incredible deal , to be sure . Also , seeing as how inexpensive laptop memory has become over the last few years , upgrading from the stock 1gb to 2gb might be a good idea ( I did , and there is a significant difference in speed ) . Overall , I believe this is one of the best netbooks out there . You will not be disappointed .
        • 042 4  A netbook was on our son's ( age 13 ) Christmas wish list . After a lot of research , we chose this one . We liked the keyboard layout and feel ( we went to the stores to check them out ) . We liked the long battery life , and we wanted one with Intel N280 . We also liked that this one had a 250GB hard drive ( most have 160GB ) . We decided to upgrade the ram to 2GB . My son wanted a computer he could take with him and he couldn't decide between a laptop or a netbook , but since he already has a desktop , I steered him in the direction of this netbook , since it's way more portable . My best friend also purchased this same netbook for her 13 year old daughter . My friend and I have both since returned our netbooks . My friend's kept freezing , and then finally the track pad stopped working altogether . I've heard that the track pad has some issues on the Toshibas , and we joked that it figured she would get one with that problem ! A little bit later , my son's scroll feature on his track pad would intermittently stop working . This added to him already being frustrated at the netbook's slow speed and small screen size . OK , we already knew the screen size - that was a given . But , we were surprised at the slow speed ( even after the upgraded ram ) , and frustrated by the track pad issues . We ended up sending our son's back as well . My friend ended up buying her daughter a mini Dell Inspiron and they love it ! They said it seems even faster than the Toshiba , but I can't vouch for that first-hand . My son ended up foregoing the netbook thing altogether and choosing an ipod touch and a new Rock Band guitar / game instead ! So , all's well that ends well , I suppose !
        • 053 4  If you've been looking for the perfect netbook , this is it ! It's small and portable , just like any netbook , but here's why you should buy this one : Super long battery life - - I haven't exactly tested it for nine hours straight , but yesterday I used it for about an hour , left it sleeping for over an hour , then used it for maybe 5 - 6 hours completely unplugged ! No need to carry around a bulky power cord ! Sleek and stylish : The chiclet style keyboard is lovely and large enough for my average-sized fingers to type on . The outside is nice looking , best described as ribbed . Mine is brown ; it looks pretty sophisticated and manages to stand out in a sea of silver and black . Also , it's not a fingerprint magnet ! My only complaint , is that the touchpad can be a bit over ( or under ) responsive at times . It's not too bad , just a bit frustrating for someone used to a desktop and mouse . Overall , I give this computer an A + ! Just buy it !

        • 065 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I love my Toshiba , aside for the OS this is a great purchase I am loving it , it is so small and easy to use . . . Great delivery service .
        • 071 4  I'm using this netbook as I type this review . I have had this netbook for about a week now and I enjoy using it so far . Well , I researched many netbooks ( looking at Eesus , HP , Samsung , Dell , Acer ) , and I read and watched so many reviews and I even tried them out in the stories too . I finally settled on this one because of the battery life ( 9 hours ) , size ( 250gb ) , OS ( Windows 7 starter ) and price . I bought the netbook primarily for websurfing such as checking emails , reading blogs and watching videos on youtube . And when I'm feeling creative , I'll type stories . I didn't want any thing fancy so Microsoft Word and Works fitted my word processor needs . I'm not one to heavily customized my netbook either so I didn't mind the limitations of Windows 7 starter . I didn't upgrade to the 2gb ram because I felt that I didn't really need it . Anyways , here are my cons : strange touchpad - I do agree with most users about the cursor jumping on the screen , but I realized that it happens because the palm of my thumb on my left hand unconsciously hits the touchpad whenever I reach for t , g , b and spacebar . Since by palm touches the pad without me realizing it , this makes the cursor jumps . Since the touchpad is off-center towards the left , my left palm has this tendency to touch it often , so the cursor jumps often . Well , I've always been used to resting my palm on flat surfaces so having to type like I'm playing the piano is something I'll just have to get used to . However , I've noticed that wearing a long sleeve that covers my palm stops the cursor from jumping . Overall , I think making the touchpad centered would help a lot ( cuz there is lots of space on the right side . . . ) . Also while the scrolling up and down functions work on the touchpad , the scrolling sideways function don't . I dont really mind that the scrolling sideways functions don't work since I hardly use it . screen brightness is not dim enough - I have sensitive eyes , so when I tried to lower the brightness of the screen , I realized that it didn't go completely dark . There are only 8 levels of brightness and at the lowest one , I find it still bright for my taste . This is just my own personal preference . So I dont think others will mind it . glaringly bright power switch - So when the screen is at the lowest brightness , the huge power switch with its glaring white light hurts my eyes . I have a small paper covering it , but still , I think it would have been nice to have the power button backlit instead of being so bright . no time remaining for battery life - The netbook tells you the percentage of battery life you have left , but not the time remaining . I tried seeing if there was an option for changing that and so far I haven't found any which I thought was weird . In the end , I just figured it was 100% = 10 hours and worked my way from there . I mean after awhile , I started to get a hang of how long I should stay on before it asks me to recharge . : P I am nitpicky so I pointed out things that others might overlook just because it doesn't really bother them . But does that mean this netbook was bad ? No . My cons just means that I wasn't as comfortable as I thought it'd be using it . But do they hinder me in using it ? Not really because I know that I'll get used to them . Personally , I am quite satisfied and content with the netbook so far . Especially the battery life . When the balloon pops up asking to recharge , I forget that this isn't my computer ! I've got to say that battery life is awesome . I haven't tested it , but I normally start the day at 10AM , waking up and turning this netbook on . Then I put it to sleep whenever I'm in class which is about 3 - 4 hours of sleep . When I'm done with class , I turn on the netbook . I'm surprised that only a few percentage was used in sleep mode . I stay on the netbook surfing around until 10PM where I get the balloon telling me to recharge . Charging isn't too bad . It takes about 3 hours . So even tho I dont know how long the netbook actually lasts , lasting a whole day is quite good ! It also depends on what you're doing and what applications you're running too . I realized that when I was scanning my netbook , it took up more power . Most of the time , I'm just online so I dont have much running . And the volume is louder than I expected . A lot of people complained that it wasn't loud enough , so I thought it wouldn't be but at 100% volume , I could still hear it from where I'm typing . However , I'm also sensitive to noise and my ears start to hurt after listening to it on speaker because the quality sounds screechy . Of course it's much louder and the quality sounds much much better with headphones . And I dont mind headphones . : ) Overall , I like this netbook . It has performed what I want it to do : surf the web and type stories and it lasts all day ! ! ! Therefore I am quite pleased with my decision . : )
        • 075 4  I purchased this computer for its small size and price . I also purchased extra memory , doubling the standard RAM . As far as e-mail and small tasks are concerned , this computer will suffice . However , if you want to do something like watch an iTunes movie , youtube , or anything that plays off the memory / hard drive , the video skips , lags , and is frustraing to the point of not being watchable . To give you an idea , the Windows Performance Experience is 2.0 out of 7.9 . This means that even while playing a simple game such as solitaire , the video skips and is not smooth when the cards fall down after winning . One other thing I've noticed is that testing it out using skype with another laptop in the same room , this computer's video quality is by far subpar compared to a 3 year old laptop . This was confirmed by simply surfing the internet . I also purchased this computer because it came loaded with windows 7 , I was highly annoyed though , that you have to pay $80 for an upgrade that allows you to do simple stuff like change your wallpaper , and watch a DVD with an external drive . By far , this is the slowest computer out of the box I've ever owned , and I highly regret not buying another macbook . The only thing I like about this computer is that it is light and small , and the price makes it somewhat disposable .

        • 100 4  Although I have owned my Toshiba mini for less than a week , I love it . It's the first computer that I have actually saved up the money for and paid it by myself , instead of the usual hand-me-down computers that I have been forced to suffer with most of my life . I find it to be a very exceptional netbook , compared to what my fellow peers have owned . I have had nothing but compliments for my netbook . I don't feel that much is wrong with it , but it would be nice if it had come with a duo-core processor instead of the Intel Atom . It would be nice to not have to close every other window to watch a simple Hulu video . I suppose , though , with the Atom processor the battery last longer . . . . Now that I think of that , it makes sense . And it is a netbook . . . . I shouldn't be upset over this . I know that every other review has probably already commented on this , but Windows 7 Starter kind of fails . If you get this computer , plan to either upgrade to the full Windows 7 , or download a different OS . It makes things much easier . This is the only reason I didn't give this product a full five out of five star rating . All in all , I am very fond of this small , yet powerful piece of technology . If only I had a better OS . . . . .
        • 104 4  I'm not super tech savvy , nor do I tend to get too hyped about stuff . But I am very pleased with my 205 - 330 netbook , although I'm still sorting it out after several weeks of use . Strong points include the keyboard and good battery life . Not the fastest microprocessor but given a few seconds it gets it done . The wireless ability is way beyond anything I have experienced in finding networks . Initially the touchpad bothered me as I was inadvertantly hitting it while touch typing , but there is a keystroke to turn it off , and I attached a wireless USB mouse that works better . I also got a USB headset for using my Magicjack and Google video chat , much better than the small speaker under the netbook . The camera works well for video . I still haven't figured out how to turn on bluetooth , and the instructions with the netbook don't help . I did not buy the extra memory , as there is a limit to how much I want to invest in a netbook that I travel with and that could break or get stolen at any time . I think it is fine as is for internet work and word processing . I recommend this netbook !
        • 108 4  Netbook runs very well , I upgraded Memory and upgraded to Windows 7 Professional and can even run my small business payroll software on it . I have however , never been able to get 9 hours of battery out of it , more like 6 or so .
        • 115 4  I received this netbook for Christmas and very quickly it was up and running . I love being able to take it into my other rooms and check my emails , etc . while others are on the home desk top computer . It is very portable and easy to use . No problems to date . I like that the keyboard feels like a regular computer keyboard , with a good click type touch . My grown children loved using it too .

        • 124 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) Experienced computer / laptop user , first notebook and exposure to Windows 7 Startup .
        • 127 4  This was a Christmas gift to use when we travel so we don't have to take the big laptop . So far we have only used it once and haven't had a chance to install any programs on it . Purchased a DVD-R / RW right away and plan to upgrade both the memory and Windows 7 Starter to a full version . Both of us work full time and we have a laptop and desk tower so it doesn't get used much . So far battery life is good which is one of the reasons we purchased this model and brand . One drawback is the size . It's not a standard size so it was hard to find a portable case to protect it and still be convenient to carry it with the power supply and external DVD unit . Overall a nice piece of equipment .

The only thing my daughter hates is that she cant change her back ground . That is thanks to the Windows 7 starter . We do have to update and buy continueing programs . The notebook itself is nice . My daughter loves it .
        • 145 4  I bought two notebooks this Christmas . One Samsung N130 for my mother and the Toshiba mini for myself . Both of them had the exact same specs except for the OS . When I started up both of them , I noticed that the Samsung is considerably faster . It starts up faster , loads faster and handles video streaming better as well . I guessed it had to do with the fact it was running on Win xp , which I'm starting to regret not getting . Most of this was fixed after installing an extra gig of ram into the Toshiba . Now it runs slightly faster than the Samsung N130 , though it's disappointing that I needed to spend an extra $50 to get it about even with the Samsung . ( Also the webcam is obviously better on the Samsung as well , in case you cared about that ) The Toshiba mini is still decent , My only other complaint is the Toshiba Mini's mouse pad . The right and left keys are extended right over the edge of the laptop . Which is really annoying to click on since it feels like the rest of the laptop and it's easy to miss which button you click on . The biggest problem however is that the mouse pad jumps . I can't count how many times I was writing a paper and the mouse suddenly decides to click outside the screen and stop typing . At first I thought I did something to cause it , but after testing it for an hour or so , it appears that it randomly does it on its own . Also , the battery does not last for 9 hours as it claims . It's more like 7 1 / 2 hrs . I looked into this and apparently it only runs 9 hrs if you are running Win XP . Windows Starter however lasts for 7 1 / 2 max . ( With everything turned on ) I probably wouldn't recommend this netbook since there are cheaper ones out there that performs just as well . I don't want to go through the trouble of sending it back and getting a new one after buying the ram upgrade .
        • 152 4  I was searching for small portable Netbook for traveling and off office use and the most imortant of all long lasting battery life and offcourse reasonable price compare to the industry . After some research I found Toshiba Netbook NB205 which fitted to my needs . I am glad I purchased this item . It has built in webcam with Skype and it picks the wireless internet use from where ever it is avilable . My only problem was with decoder for a portable DVD I purchased , finally I fixed it after calling to Toshiba service dept . Shahrad
        • 166 4  I just received this computer . It connected to the internet easily and seems to be working fine . Windows 7 starter seems adequate . Based on CNET and Consumer Reports reviews , I expect the battery to last for 6.5 - 7 hours , which is very good . I have two complaints . First , the mouse tends to latch onto objects and won't release when the mouse button is released . I have to press the escape button three or for times to get it to release . My second complaint is the mouse buttons are noisy . They make an audible click every time the buttons are pressed . The buttons on my Dell lap top are completely silent . I did not even think about this potential problem when I chose this unit . I assume most people will not care about this issue , but for me it's very annoying .
        • 167 4  Windows 7 Starter has some features locked , including changing the wallpaper . So if you like to customize your desktop , you'll want to upgrade to the Home version . The netbook itself is very nice , although I haven't yet had much time to test it . I charged it last night ( took about five hours ) . Today I'm testing the ' nine ' hour battery life . I'll update you on that . . .

      • Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) #1 The Purchase : The transaction ocurred in matter of minutes . Buy it .
        • 029 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) #1 The Purchase : The transaction ocurred in matter of minutes . • 036 4  I bought this Toshiba netbook for use by guests visiting our home and for later use as a home entertainment device . Toshiba has been making notebooks for many years , although they were not the first in the netbook market , they do have an edge up on the competition though in several areas . First the display on this netbook is gorgeous , I'd put it in the same class as my 13 MacBook in terms of color range and display . Like the newer MacBooks it has a glossy display , which I favor . The construction of this netbook is very solid , it feels far less flimsy and cheap than my 7 eeePC . It is easy to get at the memory , and if you have a set of very small Torx screwdrivers it is as easy as pie to replace the hard drive . I took out the very nice Fuljitsu 250gb drive and replaced it with a WD 640gb notebook drive so I can get all of my movies and music on the unit for possible travel use , and for later use as an HTPC connected to our HDTV . I also upgraded the memory to 2GB before powering up for the first time , this way as Winders did it's intial setup the swap file was created in the correct size . I connected an external USB DVD drive and used Acronis True Image to clone the original hard drive to the 640GB drive I installed . Joining our WPA2 encrypted Wi-Fi network was so easy it seemed like I was using a Mac . During the first boot setup it showed me a list of the SSIDs for the Wi-Fi networks it could see , I chose one , it asked for the password , and the job was done . Microsoft has greatly improved the handling of Wi-Fi connections in Winders 7 . The keyboard is much less flimsy than my 7 eeePC , and although it is small I find it much easier to type without accidentally touching the trackpad . I also very much like the two separate buttons below the trackpad instead of having left and right mouse button functions in one bar . Winders 7 Starter is not too difficult to tolerate , although I greatly prefer Mac OS X . The OS does run a bit slower than on a full size netbook with an AMD space heater CPU , but that is a part of the tradeoff involved in using an Atom processor . The energy savings provided by the NB280 Atom CPU is enormous , the entire computer uses less power than many CPUs . I've installed Boxee and XBMC for later use as an HTPC and I find the VGA external display port can do a good job of driving our 1080p HDTV . Pros : Solid construction Beautiful display OK keyboard Easy to upgrade Very good battery performance Cons : World's worst notebook speaker , it's a bad joke I have no hesitation giving this netbook 4 stars , if it were not for the 98% useless speaker I'd give it 5 .
        • 051 4  Ok , Ive had this netbook for 48 hours and I love love love it . The keyboard is easy to type on , internet connection is GREAT ! ! , and Ive had it off the charger for going on 6 hours and its half charged ! ! ! It does everything I thought it would do and I couldnt be more excited . The only thing that disturbs me is the extra big battery . I can't use any of the 10.1 inch accessories because the battery is too darn big but other than that it is the BUSINESS ! ! ! It is a Charlotte Love connection .

On the recommendation of the Amazon web site I purchased an external Combo Drive . So , after trouble shooting for a month I get to the Level 2 technician at Toshiba and he downloads and installs a piece of s / w that allows the player to run a movie ! ! ! Wow , what a nice difference . How come Amazon is shipping Toshiba net-books with s / w that will not play the movies fed to it from a recommended player ? To say I am disappointed in Amazon is an understatement ! Angy at my self for not buying a Toshiba Combo Player ? You bettcha ! Philip

        • 002 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) Before buying a netbook , I did a lot of research and determined that the Toshiba NB205 series would be best for me .

[ . . . ] [ . . . ] [ . . . ]

        • 041 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) A netbook was on our son's ( age 13 ) Christmas wish list .

It's very light and easy to use . The battery seems to last 7 - 9 hours . The keyboard is comfortable . I have only two complaints : the screen is smaller than I would have liked and the mouse pad is very sensitive causing the mouse to jump around interupting typing .

This means that this portable computer can never be used while actually traveling such as on a plane or train or whatever as the computer immediately detects vibration and effectively stops functioning .

        • 099 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) Although I have owned my Toshiba mini for less than a week , I love it . If only I had a better OS . . . . .

My back is a mess and the old 7 pound ( with battery ) mobile PC is too heavy to lug around . I wasn't sure I would like this light weight model , but I found it better than I thought it would be . Screen size is okay and the nearly full size keyboard is fine . I suggest you upgrade to the full version of Windows 7 Home Premium from the starter version that comes with the PC or you will find things you expect to use routinely may not be there . I loaded Office 2007 Home and Student on this device and the various pieces of the package run well . Since the hard disk is bigger than most netbooks you can put applications on this device and still have a lot of free disk space . It supports my 3G / 4G modem when away from home so I can work on the road . PowerPoint and Word both work well as Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) does Outlook . Overall , I am very pleased with this netbook .

        • 126 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) This was a Christmas gift to use when we travel so we don't have to take the big laptop .
        • 128 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I rated this item 4 stars only because it's not as robust as a laptop can be . . . but in the realm of netbooks , I'd give it 5 stars .

We purchased an external DVD / CD Writer / Reader for use when uploading music . the only issue we have seen so far is that it is very sensitive to vibration . It seems to stop reguarly to say hard drive has detected vibration . . . not quite sure why it's so sensitive or whether this will lead to anything . overall very happy . the speed of the delivery was outstanding . I order this on Saturday November 28 and it arrived only 3 days later !

        • 165 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I just received this computer .

      • Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I bought two notebooks this Christmas .
        • 016 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I spent hours researching different netbooks and decided to go with the Toshiba .
        • 037 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) So far I absolutely love this machine . I have not even installed the extra 2 gigs that I purchased with this and it runs smoothly so far . My only complaint is with the lousy speakers that are barely audible , but that is a minor problem considering I rarely use it without headphones anyway . I am about to upgrade to the full version of windows 7 . I think there is an ultimate deal going for students that only cost about 50.00 so that will help . No complaints so far . The battery life is awesome . I charge overnight and do not even think about looking for an outlet all day . Very light and it fits in my purse . I had a bit of a time finding the right case for it , given the large battery size but found a super cute one at office depot that fits fine . I just have to make sure the battrery side is inserted first and then it zips to close perfectly . So happy with purchase so far .

        • 063 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I needed a light laptop to carry around and settled on the Toshiba because it has an excellent battery life , a pretty good keyboad and relatively large touchpad .
        • 092 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) The net book works great and satisfied my requirement to get on the internet on the go and a fairly large amount of memory for a net book .

      • Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I needed this computer to use when I travel and for school .

I really love the fact it starts and shutdowns so fast . People complained about the battery sticking out and not being able to fit in the case . You should buy the case from Senyx . • Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I'm using this netbook as I type this review . : )
        • 023 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I looked at every netbook currently available and in my opinion the Toshiba NB205 - 330 is the best ( you will definitlely want to add the 2gb memory ) ! : (
        • 025 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I've had the NB204 - N230 for about a week now , and thought it time to write up a brief review .
        • 038 4  So far I absolutely love this machine .
        • 056 4  I have been using my Toshiba since Mid-November . It's quick for a netbook , and has amazing battery life . I love the overall look and feel and the keyboard is better laid out ( with spaces between the keys ) than my much more expensive work laptop . My husband liked it so much , he bought one , and we sent one to my mother for Christmas . All of us love it .
        • 070 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I'm using this netbook as I type this review . • 087 4  I love it ! It is the perfect size for me in my travels . My lap top is way too big to travel with .
        • 147 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) This is the first netbook we have purchased . I researched this product and compaired it with several other netbooks . It came out on top with the hard drive size . Our order arrived on time and without damage . FEDEX is outstanding . Start up was a breeze and connected to our wireless home network without a hitch . I opted to upgrade to Win 7 pro for this unit . It is very responsive and the touch pad responds better than my sons high end laptop . This will be used for writing , light surfing and over the road use when we are out . Still need to install the 2gig memory upgrade we pruchased at the same time . The unit is quite responsive without it . I will eventually use the memory boost to see how it responds with a 4gig sd card . The unit is very quite and did not get overly hot for the three or so hours we had it on with the first setup . The unit is very sturdy , more so that the Acer systems we looked at . The keyboard layout although of course not full sized is adequate and solid . Being 85% all the keys needed for general functions are full sized and in our case for writing are acceptable . I do not know how the battery will hold up yet , but again this unit is consistantly rated as one of the best on the market for battery life . CONS The main problem is that I wish the touch pad was centered on the unit . It is offset to the left slightly and although so far has not been a problem could cause your hands to hit the pad . I gues it will be something one will get used to . I REALLY wish there was a car adapter available for this unit , but it appears as though Toshiba does not make one . That was a big let down for me . My fault for not seeing this in the specifications , me bad . Overall I would suggest this unit to anyone .

        • 158 4  I am very pleased with this little computer.A Model 205N330BN Not having a CD drive has not been a problem . Flash drives work just fine and I can transfer data from my desktop to flash drives . My one complaint is a common one . When I call for tech help I can't understand the East Indian . I called 15 days ago to report tht the battery will not hold a charge overnight . I was given an order No . and told I would receive a replacement in 7 to 9 days . It is now 15 days . I called yesterday and was given the run around . In fact he acted as though there was no order . Now I am to call back Monday . Great Computer ; typical problem with their back up service . . . Amazon's performance was excellent . Frank

      • Toshiba Mini NB205 - N230 ( NB200 series ) 10.1 - Inch Black Onyx Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) This is my very first netbook , so I'll start by saying that this netbook is good for what it was meant to be , and whenever you're lounging in your room and just want to check your favorite websites do your homework late at night , watch a few videos , reply on forums . . . that's about it .

        • 022 4  This is one of the better netbooks on the market . While the price gets you closer to the Toshiba Satellite low-end series , these little jewels are compact , thus the reason people have gravitated to them . As to the Windows 7 Starter , it works just fine , no problems doing anything I have asked it to do . No , you cannot modify the background , big deal . Yes , you can play DVDs on it using VLC Media Player 1.0.3 available for free download . This coupled with the Slim Samsung external optical drive ( the same model as the Toshiba model available for a cheaper price here at Amazon ) , makes your netbook a complete system . I have played DVD movies with this setup with no issues . The design of the Toshiba , is my opinion , is the best of all the netbooks . The keyboard is almost perfect , the keys have separation and are good to the touch . I would have added textered keys , that would have made the keyboard perfect . As far as the keyboard layout , it is fairly intuitive . I would have made some of the most used keys Enter , Shift , etc . ) a tad larger , but they are OK to use as is . The netbook is sturdy ( the Sable Brown is different and looks more professional ) and the battery lives up to the stats , great for traveling light , which is why we want these things . The NB ( 330 ) has all the required ports as well as Bluetooth . The 250GB HD is the best , plenty for most folks , their pics and video files . While I agree the touchpad is big and sensitive , it is too sensitive for me . I have found it easier to disable the mousepad ( FN F9 ) when I am typing and use a mouse . Otherwise , when I type my hand rests on the pad and the pointer goes all over the screen . The power up process is relatively quick . I would take all the bloatware off to improve efficiency . At $399.00 , this NB is at the upper end , price wise , but if you are looking for NB with the capabilities of a laptop with a much smaller footprint , then go for the Toshiba NB205 - 330 . Do upgrade the memory to 2GB immediately . Do get a NB slipcase or travel case .
        • 052 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) If you've been looking for the perfect netbook , this is it !
        • 139 4  The battery time amazes me . The only thing my daughter hates is that she cant change her back ground . That is thanks to the Windows 7 starter . We do have to update and buy continueing programs . The notebook itself is nice . My daughter loves it .

      • Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I received the Toshiba netbook two weeks ago .

        • 033 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330PK 10.1 - Inch Posh Pink Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) The overall excellent performance of this small computer is essentially spoiled by a constantly erratic track pad .

Little choppy with movies when the processor is throttled back ( automatic when switched to battery power , but easy to change back ) Love the keyboard and bluetooth and everything else about it !
        • 091 4  This is one of the best computer I've ever had : compact , lightweghted , fast and reliable . It works perfect for me as I travel a lot . . . Keyboard is incredibly large and confortable for such a small computer , I would change some keys of position but overall is great once you adapt . Battery is also very reliable and stands for long working hors . 100% recommended for travellers !
        • 103 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I'm not super tech savvy , nor do I tend to get too hyped about stuff .

        • 136 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N330PK 10.1 - Inch Posh Pink Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I've had my Toshiba NB205 N330 Netbook for a week . I have really enjoyed it very much ! I love the design , the keyboard and the large touch pad . I gave the netbook a 4 because as someone else here mentioned , the speakers truly are non-existant but you can increase them a little by going into the equalizer settings and choosing Powerful or Live and it does make them a little louder . Also as others have mentioned there are times when the touchpad doesn't respond for a few seconds . The battery life is wonderful and really lasts atleast 9 hours even if you play video's for a couple hours . I do have the screen brightness set to 4 and that helps make the battery last longer . I have windows starter and it runs fast with just the 1gb of ram . I will be installing 2gig ram next week and upgrading to windows 7 premium and hope it is still as fast . Overall this is a perfect netbook and probably the best built out of all the netbooks out there .
