Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL 10.1-Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

  • 012 4  I bought this for my wife thinking she would have to sacrifice a lot of performance for extended battery life , especially with the new Windows 7 operating system . However , that really hasn't been the case . Even with the standard 1GB of RAM , the unit performs great , and battery life is on the order of 7 hours or more . As far as fit and finish goes , I compared similar units and this one has the best in it's price range , especially the keyboard - - doesn't feel flimsy at all , and the almost full size mouse pad is a plus . My only complaint is you need either a large thumb-drive or external CD / DVD-ROM drive to create factory installation media . For some reason , you can't use a regular USB drive .
    • 087 4  Super product for the price - great for everyday use ; emails , surfing , document writer . Required help to set up my USB modem , but was able to tether my Iphone without a hitch . It's light and good looking - lots of oohs and ahhs from friends .
    • 125 4  I have been using this netbook for the last one month , it works like a charm . I bought a 2GB RAM to replace the 1GB it came with , pretty easy to upgrade . Installed ubuntu and it runs beautifully .

  • 017 4  I've owned this sweet computer for about 2 months now . I bought it initially because I coach a High School Varsity Debate team , and we needed portable research ability at a reasonable price . It is now my constant companion . The battery life is amazing , the picture quality is awesome , and it functions at excellent speed . I had no trouble adjusting to Windows 7 , most of the features are intuitive if you have ever used any other Windows system . I have a Verizon wireless card , and have connected in such out of the way places as the beach , a high school cafeteria in a rural area , and hotels with no wireless service . It is capable of running multiple functions with ease , and is light weight and so portable . Love it .
    • 058 4  I have loved this netbook . The battery life is great , the appearance of the netbook is great . I love the textured cover . I got it in chocolate brown . It's a great color . I think it's very easy to type on , and the portability is great . It fits into my purse with no problem . I am not that knowledgable as far as the specifics of any computer , but I have found no problems working this computer . It runs quickly , even after I installed the whole Microsoft Office system . I would definitely recommend this netbook to anyone . It is easy to use , great in appearance , and very portable .
    • 072 4  What first attracted me to this Toshiba netbook is the color . . . . being brown my favorite . As I explored the different reviews and not to mention being considered as one of the top ten notebooks for 2009 , I decided to get one from Amazon for myself . I had to ask a friend from Hawaii to bring it home to the Philippines . My netbook did not fail me . I love the long battery hours and normal keyboard . It's portability being super light weight is a plus . I never had problems with the wifi connection as others do . Though I plan to add 1gb of ram to boost its boot up time but other than that it's great . I would recommend it to anybody who intends to buy a netbook .
    • 074 4  This is my first PC , I am a Mac person . System 7 starter is a dream compared to the past systems , I am glad Microsoft finally started making a product that doesn't waste the user's time . Anyway , it works great as a netbook , for small tasks . If I needed to use it a lot , I would opt for a bigger laptop , but we just use it for facebook , email , a quick recipe search , and as an encyclopedic source . It is great . I didn't upgrade it nor did I add memory as others suggested . It is a perfect little netbook . Thanks Toshiba !
    • 078 4  This mini met all my expectations and more . The battery life is amazing . I truly recommend this product to anyone looking for a notebook . It also looks good with the blue accents . The keys are comparable to a regular laptop . The only drawback is the volume setting . One has to use headphones to listen to video or music . I still love it !
    • 085 4  After much consideration I decided to purchase the Toshiba mini . I love it . My goal was to find a computer I could use to check e-mail , surf the web and update my resume . It is portable job searching machine . It provides everything I need in a laptop in a small portable size . I checked it out at best buy and ordered it at Amazon because the price was better . The keyboard is also closer to what I am used to which is another big selling point . The only negitive thing I can say is that the speakers are terible . You can barely hear it . Headphones are a necessity . I really don't do a lot of music but if you did you may want to consider it . Buy the Toshiba you will not be disappointed .
    • 096 4  I read the article in consumers report that rated this netbook so high and ordered it for my wife for her birthday . She loves the unit and she and all her girl friends thinks that having one in pink it just perfect . It has all the new systems and udates that are now out . the nine hour battery life is the longest in the industry . You can't go wrong with this unit . The delivery was fast and the packing and company service perfect .
    • 124 4  This is a great netbook . It does everything promised , and more . It does not have the ability of a laptop or desktop , but at times it performes as good as or better than my laptop . Windows 7 is neat . The only downfall I see with Windows 7 Starter is that you can not change the desktop picture . All in all , I love this netbook !
    • 130 4  This was a replacement for an older larger laptop . I was concerned that the 10.1 inch screen might be to small . I was so wrong . My Toshiba Mini is just perfect for me . I use it to surf the web , looking at recipes , email etc . The battery last forever . It is very light , I can take it anywhere I go . I couldn't be happier .
    • 141 4  I just bought this yesterday and really wasn't sure what I was getting myself into as this is my first laptop / netbook . I've always been a desktop type of guy and I'll admit , it took a little getting use to . It was very easy to start up and now I have almost converted all of my data from my desktop to my new netbook . Great product and Great price !
    • 147 4  I love my litte Toshiba . It is very efficient. The battery lasts for quite a while which is great for me.I am a lecturer so I have to carry it around everywhere and I love that it is lighter that the book I teach . If anything about it is not so great then it would be it's extra sensative mouse pad , but I suppose it is because I was using a very old and slow pc that I found this one so quick . I love it and i recommend it .

  • 028 4  I bought this netbook as a christmas gift for my niece . I opened it upon receipt which took less than four days to be delivered . Was very happy to receive it before Christmas ; I was quite nervous . Anyhow , this netbook looks really nice and sleek . I was taken aback in the past by the awkward looking battery during my research but can tell you it looks just fine . After four minutes of setting-up the mini for first use , I am very happy . Windows7 is nice and is very similar to XP . I have a MacBook Pro which I use quite often but will buy another Toshiba Mini .
    • 037 4  I purchased the Toshiba Mini for business purposes . It is convenient because I am always on the go . However , the mouse pad is overly sensitive and the curser moves if you merely brush over the pad . This is quite a headache . Also , the power cord does not stay in the socket . I have to keep pushing it back in . It slides out frequently . Overall , it's a good piece of equipment .
    • 055 4  I have a large VAIO laptop , but it is such a pain to lug around , especially on vacation . Got this Toshiba to solve the problem and love it . It is so easy to carry , has fantastic battery life , and is quick . As a bonus , it's great looking ! A great buy .
    • 153 4  I have had only one issue with this netbook . I put linux on it right away to dual boot and some of the blue function keys do not work in linux . They do work in windows7 . Otherwise works great as a linux computer . Have not used windows enough to know if it runs well or not .

  • 068 4  Love this notebook ! Wow is it fast ! It is so worth the money ! Check it out ! The white is not really white white it is like an apple ipod white with silver very very contemporary ! Modern ! Love it ! The wifi works very broad range and picks up instantly !
    • 112 4  Keyboard overly sensitive , sound non existent . Returned for replacement . Replacement worked as expected , even though the sound was not up to par .

  • 099 4  With a good Windows XP desktop and a Vista laptop , why would I need a Windows 7 Starter netbook ? Took a month of research to convince me to try one . After 10 days with the Toshiba NB205 - N325BL , it has become a household pet , second in use only to the desktop . However , its touchpad sensitivity drove me nuts with the cursor hopping all over the place and even costing me a couple lost e-mails before I could complete them for sending . Because I added a mouse anyway , the first solution was to disable the touchpad ( FN + F9 ) . The second and current solution is to disable only the touchpad tapping function ( Windows Control Function , Advanced Feature Settings , Pointer Speed and Tapping Settings , Disable Tapping ) . The other main negative is the feeble tinny speaker . However , headphones provide excellent stereo sound . The NB205 , like all netbooks , also needs a case for it and its power cord , and an optional mouse . I bought a Targus case that included a wired optical USB laptop mouse . You'll also want a compact slightly elevated stand ( I got a Belkin with USB fan but don't use the fan ) and something heat resistant like a ceramic coaster on which to set the small rectangular box ( which gets rather warm ) that's part of the power cord . The NB205 set up flawlessly with my home wireless network . The NB205 seemed a little slow on line , so I replaced the 1GB 533 MHz with a Kingston 2GB DDR2 667 MHz . Runs a bit faster now . Not sure if the slight boost slightly curtails battery time , which remains excellent , i.e . , can use the NB205 all day on line without recharging it . The overall look and feel , the screen , and the keyboard exude quality . The screen is sharp with excellent color and doesn't need to dim as often or severely as many larger laptop screens do . Printed information is mostly quick setup and safety . The operating manual is accessed only on line via the red My Toshiba symbol at the bottom of the screen . The NB205 is so much fun and mostly intuitive that I never bothered with the operating manual until I got fed up with the touchpad's spastic cursor . The NB205 is also an excellent way to read electronic books . The same books from Amazon and elsewhere are simultaneously available on all three of my computers as well as the Kimble 2 . Printing is simple by just taking the NB205 to a printer and using a USB cord . ( I've tried networking printers before but that is more trouble than benefit . ) The built-in camera and Skype have me trying videophone contact . Another bonus feature . The NB205 is a great tool and toy within the current state of the art . For example , I would have given it five stars if it didn't have the touchpad errant cursor , if it had good stereo sound , if it didn't need a mouse for optimum navigation , if the battery and charging cord weren't so warm that they need something smooth and heat resistant beneath them , and if I didn't need to spend another $70 to double the memory to 2GB . Toshiba's 2010 models have just come out . I suspect they will have much the same benefits and issues that I've mentioned . Either 2009 or 2010 , from what I've experienced so far , such netbooks will be favorites for years to come .
    • 001 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I looked at netbooks for about 2 months , comparing all of the various features . Then I went on the road to see them in person and put my hands on the keyboard . I ended up choosing the Toshiba NB205 - N325 because it met all my criteria ( Windows 7 , upgradable RAM , great battery life , and overall quality construction ) and because it has the best keyboard for my hands . The chicklet keys are great and the sub-sized keyboard only slows me down a little from a full-sized version . After shopping all around I ended up buying it direct from Amazon . They had the best price on cyber monday of 329.99 . Interestingly , the price is now back up to 380 + so I guess I got lucky with the timing . I tossed the 2GB RAM upgrade into my shopping cart and the machine showed up at my door about 8 days later . Start up was a breeze . It found my home network and network printer without a problem . I downloaded chrome as my browser with no problem , activated the Norton trial ( still shopping for an antivirus program ) , and activated the free trial of Office ( I actually have the software but haven't gotten around to activating my copy ) . I've plugged in several USB devices without issue including a wireless mouse and external hard drive . No problems . The 160 GB hard disk has plenty of space and unless you plan to make and store movie files you should never need more . After about an hour I shut back down and installed the 2GB RAM chip which is simple to do . You just remove one screw on a small cover on the back and the chip is right there . Pop the old one out and the new one in , then start back up . The user manual spells it out perfectly . I didn't run it long enough on the 1GB chip to give you a comparison on performance but with 2GB it seems as quick as my other laptops . I think this upgrade is a no-brainer if you plan to use your netbook for anything more than reading e-mail . The only glitch I've had is with the display . About 2 hrs after I started it up the display suddenly went crazy , jerking all over . I was talking on a cordless phone at the time and assumed it somehow interfered with the display . It happened again one time two days later only I wasn't talking on the phone . Both times I got it to stop by putting it to sleep and then starting back up ( which only takes a couple seconds ) . I don't know what to make of this but so far it hasn't repeated itself and at least I know how to stop it . If it happens again I'll call Toshiba . My overall impression is that I love this little guy . It does everything I wanted it to do and is the ultimate in portability . I use it on and off all day , closing the lid when I'm done which puts it to sleep . It wakes up almost instantly , so this is a great way to extend the battery . The only time I plug it in is at night . I've never come close to running the battery down . The fit and finish of the machine are terrific . Toshiba hit a home run with this model . It gets 5 stars from me .

    • 003 4  Speedy ( Win 7 boots faster than Vista does on my much more powerful laptop ) , amazing battery life ( I've eked out more than the 9 hours on the label ) , light and a pleasure to use . The full-sized keyboard makes typing easy and with 3 USB ports , if you need peripherals , you're covered . The keyboard is a little squishy which takes a moment to get used to and I wish there was more than just a VGA port for video options , but overall as long as you're not trying to stream full-screen 1080 resolution movies , you'll find nothing to complain about . I bought a Crucial CT25664AC667 2GB memory stick to improve multitasking and dual boot with Ubuntu Netbook Remix Karmic , which works out of the box for everything except sound ( and the fix for that is in the pipeline ) . Personally , and I'm surprised to say this , I prefer Win 7 Starter . Everything just works flawlessly on this little netbook and I can't find anything that really disappoints me .
    • 004 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 Series 10.1 - Inch Netbook ( 160GB Hard Drive ) ( Personal Computers ) I have had my Toshiba N205 - N325BL for a week . I had never used a laptop before so the touch pad took some getting used to . I have since purchased a mouse and external DVD to use with it . The user manual is a file on the internal disk so learning how to find my way around the laptop and Windows 7 was a challenge but I doubt if any computers come with a hard copy user manual anymore . I called Qwest to get help configuring my DSL modem for wireless and they even helped me with the laptop . It only took a few minutes to get it all working . I have had no problem with the netbook and am very happy with my purchase . I had considered the ASUS for a long time but the negative customer reviews regarding the AC adapter / charger and their customer service convinced me the Toshiba was a better choice . I don't think it's fair to give the Toshiba a bad review based on Windows 7 Starter . Toshiba doesn't make Windows and all the netbooks with Windows 7 Starter will have the same restrictions . If you want all the bells and whistles of a full sized laptop then buy a laptop and not a netbook . Update after 2 months and using it on vacation for 3 weeks . My only complaint is the audio volume is poor .

    • 006 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) After much comparison I ordered the NB205 - 325BN over all others . We already have an Asus net book in house with XP installed so I really figured I would buy another Asus . Not so , after doing the research I ordered the NB205 and a 2gb 800mhz memory module at the same time and installed it prior to even powering up the computer . First remember that a net book has a specific set of tasks that it functions best at , stick to those and you will not end up a whiner about your small computer . The Wi-Fi is very capable of picking up weak signals and not dropping it . The keypad is a rather pleasant one to use . The touchpad needed to be adjusted to my preferences but is nicer to use than most . Battery life is excellent , I'm getting just over 9 hours of life using it for streaming and normal web use . The fit and finish are great , the screen is sharp and I really like the Sable Brown finish . Windows 7 starter works without a hitch . I have had no problems with the OS . I routinely run Skype and 2 or 3 windows tabs at a time . This model does not have Blue Tooth so remember that if you require it . Toshiba has a great reputation for quality and customer service too . There are a lot of choices now for net books but if it's not a throw away device for you then invest in quality and this little computer is just that , quality . Small , light and very capable of performing its ' assigned tasks .
    • 008 4  Excellent battery life , a keyboard that is large enough to make typing a breeze . first we uninstalled all the bloatware and installed the programs we prefer like Firefox , Thunderbird , and Open Office . Perfect for travel , but I use it on the kitchen table almost constantly .
    • 009 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I am very pleased with this netbook so far . It is nice looking , seems sturdy . Trackpad has some minor issues but if you check that you have all the appropriate drivers installed then that should fix the issue . upgrading to Win7 Home Premium somehow deleted the trackpad driver but it was easy to re-install . Battery life is great , on my first real test of it I got well over 7 , probably closer to 8 hours of use and that is including lots of downloading , burning a large disc with an LG portable superdrive ( bus powered ) , and other pretty power-hungry uses . Win7 Starter is purposely restricted so that Microsoft can gouge you $75 to upgrade to home premium . It's a shame , but apparently bill gates doesn't have enough billions yet . Of course , the other options are vista ( yuck ! ) or XP ( 2gens old now ! ) . If you are a student buying this to use at school look for the Win7 special price , you can upgrade for only $30 , and get Office Ultimate for only $60 . great deal . I recommend also investing in a portable superdrive . Toshiba makes one but you don't have to buy theirs , the LG one I got works just fine with this computer . Most people will also want to get a 2GB DDR2 ram stick . I haven't gotten one yet but I already want to after just a couple days , I can tell the computer is just struggling a teeny bit and more ram would really do the trick . So now you're talking over $500 , depending on what kind of deals you can get on the netbook itself and all the addons . As it turns out , full size laptops on a good sale come with their own Win7 HomePremium and Superdrive included for less than that , so if you don't need the superior battery and portability , a regular laptop might be better for you . But , for a student this is a great buy . super portable , excellent battery life , and with the right tools it has everything you need . If you don't want to be forced to work on that tiny screen all the time , look for either a cheap desktop to also use or an addon desk-size monitor that you can use while you're at home . Wireless mouse and maybe even a fullsize keyboard might be a good bonus , as well .

    • 013 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) My first netbook arrived with a faulty webcam . Amazon was super-helpful and cross-shipped a replacement overnight . The second one is a great little machine , with almost everything I need . My main concern going into the purchase was to find one with a comfortable keyboard and a long battery life . The Toshiba has both . I'm an average-sized man ( 5'10 ) , large-framed , with proportional hands , and have no trouble at all typing on the Toshiba's keyboard , though other makes / models I tried on display at the local big box store did give me problems . My biggest piece of advice is to find a store display of a bunch of these things and try out every single keyboard . The quick-function keys for disabling the touchpad , putting the computer to sleep , flipping the display when attached to an external monitor , etc . , are all very well done . It's one of my favorite features of the machine . I did have a little trouble finding a case that would work well for toting the thing around , because the battery makes it an odd shape and won't let it fit into standard sleeves / cases for 10.1 netbooks . I wound up grabbing a sleeve for an 11 netbook and it works great , but then decided I wanted handles , so I bought an InCase brief for the 13 MacBook Pro . The Toshiba swims around in there , but it works for me . I bought the Toshiba with the purpose of using it for writing , and didn't anticipate just how small and cramped the screen would feel in that endeavor . It's great for surfing and even watching videos , but the screen just feels too small to write on . I'm looking forward to replacing it with something else for that purpose , though we're going to keep the Toshiba around because it's a great machine to have on hand for surfing from the couch or taking on the road , and I plan to give it to my wife - - it actually makes her want to have her own computer on trips instead of constantly borrowing mine .

    • 015 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) If you are looking for a small portable computer with a basic OS this will fit the bill . For me it is a disappointment . CONS : Processor is much slower than my L505 series Toshiba which I paid basically the same price for . Windows 7 starter is stripped down to a bare bones basic OS . Check out what's missing before you make your decision . The mouse pad is very sensitive , even after adjusting the sensitivity . This is the only laptop that I have a problem with my finger hitting the mouse pad and the cursor jumping . If you bump the computer the hard drive always stops and gives you a warning . You can adjust this setting but it is still way to sensitive . PROS : Great battery life . Very lite and portable . Key board is pretty good for a netbook . If I had to do it all over I'd skip on this one and buy another L505 series laptop , it's GREAT .

    • 018 4  Over the holidays , our family bought two netbooks , one for the adults and the other for the kids . Unable to decide between the top-rated Toshiba NB205 and the equally applauded Samsung N310 , we stayed true to our centrist leanings : we bought both , $300 each on sale . The reviews by other customers cover well the strengths and the weaknesses of these netbooks . The unknown with any product is customer service . Here , the netbook god Atom gave us an opportunity to test Toshiba and Samsung equally , as each unit's Bluetooth was giving us agita . This is what happened . When I called Toshiba , the customer service representative not only walked me through possible solutions , but quickly realizing that I had tried most of these , escalated the issue to a level 2 technician . When our call disconnected , she called me right back and stayed on the line until the technician could speak with me . The technician quickly sent me an e-mail link to gain remote access to my netbook and then walked me through what he was doing . Bluetooth problem solved . Fantastic , fantastic , fantastic . Here is customer service that lives up to the name . Compare that with Samsung . Until we got rid of the N310 , the Bluetooth would not transmit sound to a headset . I was sure the solution was simple : perhaps a new driver , perhaps a pairing step I was missing . Both Samsung representatives I spoke with were nice but at a loss . The first promised to call me back after he investigated but never did . The other rep , aware of the failure to call me back , also promised to call me back after testing his own Bluetooth settings , this time within one hour . You guessed it : no callback . By this time , I had plenty of time to explore both netbooks . The Toshiba NB205 with Windows 7 Starter kept impressing with its serious build quality , its fantastic keyboard and bright display . Just turning it on is a pleasure . Everything about the NB205 is serious , yet intuitive . The Samsung with Windows XP was , by comparison , an aesthetic letdown . Despite its unique rubberized exterior and anti-bacterial keys ( a big point in getting it for the kids ) , overall it always felt unbearably plasticky . Not Acer-cheap , but still , no contest when compared side-by-side with the NB205 . Even the kids liked the more solid feel of the Toshiba . Me , I'm just completely impressed with the total Toshiba experience . So I gave the kids the NB205 and am waiting for the Pine Trail Toshiba NB305 to come online , perhaps the Qualcomm Gobi-equipped 3G model to be sold by Best Buy . Meanwhile , Samsung , I'm still waiting .
    • 019 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I've had my brown NB205 for about a month . First of all , looks very cool , I love the style of this netbook . The battery life seems to be as advertised . I never have actually timed it , but a full charge of the battery will easily last me 4 or 5 days using it for a few hours in the evening . It also charges quickly when plugged back in . No complaints with the battery . Windows 7 starter is very stripped down . Out of the box it actually looks a little strange not to see tons of programs in the start menu or tons of icons on the desktop , but really I'm happy about this . My primary purpose for this is to get online quickly and not to have to worry about battery life , and windows 7 starter is fine for internet browsing . I like that there's not much on the computer , and I don't plan on adding too much either . For people that care , you can't change the desktop background wallpaper to your own picture , at least not out of the box . I think there are 3rd party programs that allow you to do this in 7 starter , but I don't care enough to bother with it . Typing is pretty easy , and the screen really doesn't seem all that small , so functionally I think this is a great netbook . Now for the negative ( and it's a big one if this is important to you ) , the speaker is horrible , and it is located in a horrible spot . It's located on the underside of the computer on the bottom right . If you have the computer on your lap , the speaker is almost inaudible , it's not much better when it's sitting on a hard surface . If the sound is important to you and you don't want to or can't always wear headphones then don't buy this netbook . This isn't a concern for me , and everything else about this is great , so I have no complaints . The bad speaker is all that kept me from giving it 5 stars .

Would definitely but it again and will definitely look at Toshiba the next time I need a laptop - unless I decided on an Apple ! : )

I donated my first one to a school teacher . With Windows 7 , MS Office already there ( you do need a verifiable product key to activate ) and many software downloads available online , this little baby is easy to customize and full of needed features ! Example of battery life , I used it off and on for 7 hours ( never left it off for more than 15 - 20 minutes ) , I checked the battery and still had 39% of the charge . It is also very easy to handle at the airport .

    • 025 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325WH 10.1 - Inch Frost White Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I bought this notebook after doing a bit of research on similar machines available on the market . I would say I'm not disappointed with my choice . It's a sleek , eye-cathcing design . The major pluses are Win 7 , N280 processor , 9 - hour battery life , and the possiblity of expanding the RAM ( it comes with a 1 GB RAM ) . It's not surprising that the notebook gets a bit slow while multitasking , so expanding the RAM will help . Because of the battery , the notebook is a bit heavier ( about three pounds ) than some other comparable machine available , but those machines lack many great features that Toshiba Mini NB205 have . Two other important things to mention are its great WiFi reception and good results of the webcam . This notebook is a bit pricey , but it's worth it .

Full size keyboard has comfortable feel and the battery does in fact last about 8.5 hours even after three months of recharges . Travels nicely ! Would have rated it five stars if it included more than just a 60 day trial of the Microsoft Office Home / Student edition . Just keep that in mind from a cost standpoint . Oh , also think about adding an external disk drive .

    • 031 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) The second time I tried to boot the NB205 notebook , it wouldn't start . It had to go in for repair , and was returned in a week's time in perfect operating order . Now that it's running , ( after this initial hiccup ) , I find it a delight to work with . The glossy screen has beautiful , rich colors , unlike the very nice Asus notebook I'd been using ' til now , which has a matte screen , and whose color rendition simply is nowheres as nice . Since I use my netbook to offload , process and classify digital images , the quality of the screen is quite important to me . The glossy screen , whose shortcoming is that it can , according to some , suffer from reflections , is nonetheless my screen of choice for the richness and accuracy of its color rendition and richness of its dark tones . I simply do not find the glossiness to be a problem , in case that is one of the concerns that you might have . The keyboard is pleasant , Windows 7 works like a charm ( and even better since I boosted the RAM to the full 2GB that the machine will accept ) . Battery life is outstanding , and I can go the whole day without connecting to a power source . It'll be nice to have this netbook on my next transatlantic flight in a few weeks . Esthetically , it's an attractive machine ; it's the first brown computer that I have owned , and I must say that the textured brown lid makes it pleasant to hold and is not a fingerprint magnet . It's well balanced , has an agreeable shape and feels well built . Everything about this machine oozes quality ! The initial problem ( that it wouldn't boot after just one use ) is something I will not hold against this machine . All computer makers have their share of DOA or malfunctionning machines ; this was simply the luck of the draw , as far as I'm concerned . If I can cite any shortcomings of the NB205 , these would be that 1 ) it has WiFi B and G , but not the much faster and more recent N specification , and 2 ) , should you want to upgrade the hard drive , you'll need a very tiny Torx ( #6 ) screwdriver to open the hatch . These are not easy to find locally . Now that my netbook is running , I have no doubts that it will serve me well in the coming years .

    • 033 4  I love the size , the battery life , the portability of this little netbook but there is a major problem with the cursor jumping around . I am a very fast typist and the cursor jumps around all over the place . As I was typing this review it erased everything I wrote ( which was quite a bit ) because the cursor highlighted everything and , before I could stop it , the whole review was erased . I've tried slowing down but that doesn't seem to stop the problem . I toned down the sensitivity of the touchpad and that helped some but not much . I would really like to know if anybody else has had this problem . The keyboard itself is great to use but the problem with the jumping cursor is enough to make me want to take this thing back ! Thanks to help from a reader , I have remedied the mystery of the jumping mouse and now have no complaints about the computer at all .

The battery life is amazing . It works perfectly in wifi spots and is easy to connect . I bought it for the battery life and the keyboard . The keyboard types very easy and the keys feel good . I downloaded a couple of games , Scabble and Hoyle Card games . I play bridge and the different types of solitare on the Hoyle product . The netbook is fast on the internet and isn't bogged down with all the stuff you might have on your home pc or laptop . It is so easy to throw in your bag to carry along - light weight and just the right small size . E-mail works great - I highly recommend this product .

    • 039 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) Having read a lot of the reviews on here , I felt compelled to actually review a product I purchased and to respond to some of the negative reviews . First , this is NOT a desktop replacement . If you think it is , you need to shop elsewhere . Second , if the netbook did not work with your router . . . it is the router , not the netbook . It took me literally five seconds to get the wireless up on this computer . Unless you are mixing wireless types or configured your router improperly , it will work . This netbook is everything I wanted in a netbook . It's very fast , has enough memory to use all the applications I want , and comes in a small package . I use Amazon's Kindle for PC to turn it into a e-reader . Internet surfing is quick , effortless , and pleasant . The keyboard is the perfect size . Windows 7 basic is everything you would need on a netbook . It all comes back to what a netbook is actually for . . . that is basic programs and surfing the web . I have no complaints . Well one small one . . . I am sick of telling Norton I do not want their product . But that's mostly because I am too lazy to uninstall it .

Excellent performance , I did up RAM to 2 GB , and have found it well worth the money . • 045 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) why 4 stars ? just because I can't make the SD reader of this baby to work , maybe is my memory stick PRO duo the cause of the malfunction or maybe it came like this from the factory . I'm writing this review from the nb205 , and with the 2GB DDR2 RAM upgrade and Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade , the computer runs like heaven . My recommendations for future users ? 1 ) BUY the 2GB RAM expansion , and then you can sell the 1GB that it comes with this machine to recover some of the cash of the 2GB RAM . 2 ) DO NOT SWITCH the 2GB before starting the netbook for the first time ! Start and configure Windows 7 with the factory settings , and THEN upgrade your RAM ! I was mortified when I upgraded first and the netbook didn't start ! Then I switched back to the 1GB and runned like new . 3 ) Windows 7 Starter is pain in the b . . . I strongly recommend that you upgrade to Home Premium and use the benefits of Aero , Gadgets and Custom Wallpapers . 4 ) Google Chrome for browsing , iTunes if you own an iPod like me ( it runs smoothly at the same time ) 5 ) Multitasking force this little's baby CPU for a while , but the RAM never passed 60% of usage . This is why I recommend the 2GB upgrade .

    • 047 4  Hello , Well , I knew it was going to take some time to do this , but I Finally bought Windows 7 Pro upgrade download Plus Disk , and I Finslly decided to upgrade my Toshiba NB205 - N325BL netbook's OS from Windows 7 Starter , which in my opinion doesn't work worth a crap , and also due to my ntebook's mouse pad and cursor's sporatic behavior at times . I looked up other reviews , and others were having the same issues with theirs . The seemingly fixed their problems , but I decided that why should I have to keep tweaking and modding settings of a brand new netbook . It should already be set correctly right from the box . And so i decided to Finally get it upgraded to Windows Pro . And so i did . I downloaded and installed the Windows 7 OS , and then installed all of the Windows 7 updates . Then I inslalled all of the drivers and software pertaining to my Toshiba netbook . And when I was finally done , I am sooo glad that i did it . My Toshiba NB205 - N325BL is much faster and much more superb than it was . It just works plain awesome now . And the mouse pad does not move Until i cause it to move . Also , there are no sudden webpage changes . I am just very pleased with this , and I should hgave done this right from thge start . Now , my Toshiba gets used quite a bit , whereas I wasn't using it because of the way that the mouse pad was doing , and also the way that it would just flip to webpages without me requesting it or wanting it to . And so , with this new update , I recommend to anyone that has bought this wonderful Toshiba NB205 - N325BL or any oif its predecessors that came with Windows 7 Starter , to upgrade to either Windows 7 Home , Pro , or even Windows 7 Ultimate , which will eventually be what i get . Even if you have bought the NB305 - N410 , you should still upgrade the Starter OS from it to a clean , fresh install of either of the 3 above it , with a special recommendation to upgrade to either Windows 7 pro or Ultimate . You will be glad you did , believe me ! I am , and I am using my Toshiba netbook right now with Windows 7 Pro installed . Anyway , thanks for reading .
    • 048 4  I received the Toshiba NB205 - N325 Netbook ( in Posh Pink ) as a Xmas gift . Unfortunately the 1st one I got was dead out of box , would not even turn on . Amazon sent me a replacement immediately and I received it in 2 days ( here in Hawaii ) ! Kudos to Amazon's customer service . The second netbook I received from Amazon was PERFECT . Toshiba NB205 design is probably the best out in the market right now , as far as netbooks goes , no details have been overlooked . Love the almost full size tiled keyboard , and I have no problems switching over . The screen itself is bright and sharp . Under normal use , I was able to get at least 8 hours out of the battery , which I'm impressed since I do a lot of net browsing and videos viewing . The windows 7 starter was a little disappointing in the beginning as I found out that it does not allow you to change your wallpaper , however a little googling and you will find that someone already wrote a program to allow you to change the wallpaper : ) Also the NB205 - N325 model DOES NOT have bluetooth connectivity , which is a bit strange since the NB205 - N313 which runs on XP does comes with bluetooth connectivity . Overall , I'm absolutely please that I have the Toshiba NB205 - N325 and would highly recommend it if it is in your budget range : )

I like the keyboard , the size . It runs good and the battery life really does last about 9 hours . The touchpad is ultra sensitive and you'll want to know about the new features before or it might frustrate you like it did me . It actually took me a few days of use to learn the right touch with the touchpad , but overall it is a great computer and I enjoy using it . My last laptop was a Toshiba and it ran great for a long time , but I retired it in favor of something lighter and newer . I'm very happy with it and I hope this helps !

It actually took me a few days of use to learn the right touch with the touchpad , but overall it is a great computer and I enjoy using it . My last laptop was a Toshiba and it ran great for a long time , but I retired it in favor of something lighter and newer . I'm very happy with it and I hope this helps !
    • 051 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325PK 10.1 - Inch Posh Pink Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) This item is very nice , but has some problems . I love how light and portable it is . It is a very good looking netbook . I also love the long battery life . What I don't like about it is that it cannot connect to some wireless networks , which I don't understand why it cannot do that . It connects to my wireless at home , but when I take to to class ( this was the whole reason I even bought it so that I could bring it with me to class ) , it won't connect to the UCLA wireless and I've tried connecting it to wifi at coffee shops and it does not connect there either . As portable as it is , it loses its portability when it cannot connect to wireless networks outside of the house . I hope they fix this problem soon and offer a solution for my toshiba mini so that I can get internet access everywhere .

    • 053 4  I bought this netbook primarily because of the 6 - hour battery life . Let's get the Pros out of the way right off the bat . Battery life is great , and close to what is advertised . It recharges quite rapidly , has a bright display , and awakens quickly from the sleep mode . Good stuff . On the negative side , the touch pad is horrible - one of the worst I have ever used . And a plug-in mouse sometimes works , sometimes doesn't . The mouse works fine , all the time , on my other laptop , my home computer , and my office . computer . Secondly , when I am in Windows Explorer , this computer has a nasty habit of swooping me back one or two screens , to a site that I previously looked at , but had left . I think the touch pad is the culprit here , but I can't say for sure . The Chiclet keyboard keys are not dished and a bit awkward under the fingers , and the raised dot on the F and J keys is too small to easily feel . I could forgive this , if it were the only thing . Another thing is the Windows 7 Starter edition . It's horrible ! You can't even do simple things like change your desktop background ! The help screens - both Toshiba's and MS's - give you instructions to do things that are not available in this baby OS . I tried to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional , and guess what ? You can't . You can't install an upgrade over this OS , so you would have to reformat the HD and do a ground-up installation . I guess that would work . I would have gladly paid for an upgraded OS , but it wasn't available . I don't know why they even sell such an awful and primitive operating system . I should have listened to the Apple comercials on TV ! I am disappointed and wouldn't buy this computer again . If you are thinking about it , I'd advise you to wait until you can order it with an upgraded operating system .
    • 054 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I have a large VAIO laptop , but it is such a pain to lug around , especially on vacation . Got this Toshiba to solve the problem and love it . It is so easy to carry , has fantastic battery life , and is quick . As a bonus , it's great looking ! A great buy .
    • 056 4  I bought this computer in October , and the mouse froze a lot - a couple of times the mousepad would not even turn on & I had to plug in an external mouse . So within two weeks of purchase , I returned it . The second computer ( same model ) had the same problem , just to a lesser extent . This computer also has issues shutting down . The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is that the battery really does last as long as it says it will , which is quite convenient . However , the mouse freezes VERY frequently , and it is really annoying .
    • 057 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I have loved this netbook .
    • 059 4  I bought this mini laptop two months ago for accessing my e-mail primarily . About a week ago , I installed Window Words XP onto this netbook because I need to take it to the library to do some research . I then discovered the cursor would jump to a different part of the document while I was typing , sometimes it would even highlight an entire paragraphy and then deleted it in a flash . It was extremely irritating , thank god there was the UNDO in the EDIT toolbar . To make the story short , I called Toshiba Tech support three times and each time they told me how to fix it , and it failed : ( 1 ) Turn off the computer , unplugged the battery , hold the power button for 15 seconds to reset the computer ; ( 2 ) To unistall the Window Words XP , then reinstall it ; ( 3 ) To reformat the entire hard drive to factory setting . Of all the remedies , the last step was the most drastic and time-consuming because it took more than 2 hours to reformat the hard drive , plus however long it took to reinstall other softwares . As I said earlier , none of the remedies recommended by the Toshiba Tech support worked . If you were near me after the hard drive was reformatted and the problem was still unsolved , you could see steam coming out of my head . I then took the matter into my own hand , and did some research on the internet to find out what caused the cursor jumps around in laptop computers . Apparently , this is a very very common problem in a lot of laptops made by different brands . Some of it is related to hardware glitch , some of it is related to softwares , and some of it is related to something that is still not known . For this netbook computer , because the keyboard is very small and the motion-sensitve touch pad is so nearby , it might pick up motions from keystrokes and cause the cursor to malfunction . I took the solution recommended by some bloggers who had this problem before : to turn off the touch pad completely , and plugged in a USB wireless mouse . Luckily , Window 7 has an option in the Control Panel / Hardware / Mouse / Advance which allows the users to disable the touch pad when a wireless mouse is plugged in . Guess what ? the problem of the cursor jumped around stopped completely after I chose this option and plugged in a wirless mouse . I then called Toshiba Tech Support , wanting to share this piece of information / solution with them . The supervisor , whom talked with a heavy latino accent , was extremely impatient and rude . For one thing , she kept mispronunced my name even after I corrected her each time , all-ton and not owl-ton . Also , as I was about to tell her how I fixed the problem , she thanked me and wanted to terminated the conversation . I told her I wasn't finished , she then said something which was completely unrelated , If you are unhappy about Toshiba products , I can authorize you a return to have our people fix your computer . I hanged up immediately , who needed to speak to Moron like that . For those of you who want to buy this computer , think twice ! ! ! ! If you can put up with the cursor jumping around , and / or a Tech Support that is based at who knows where , go ahead !

It's even okay for a hunt and pecker . Now I can watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report anytime I want to . Streaming video works great on wi-fi . Screen resolution is crisp . The speaker is tinny , but built in sound card for headphones is great . I'm not a techie - but I've used a lot of PC's in my life ( my first was Tandy TL1000 XT / AT . ) I'm older than Windows if that tells you anthing . I love the light weight of this netbook . I am so excited - no more lugging around my heavy Dell Latitude laptop with old battery and huge ac adapter . I plan to purchase a mini-mouse next . The touchpad is okay , but you have to do a lot of scrolling since the screen is small .

    • 062 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I bought two of these . One in Sable Brown and another in Frost White . I bought them both so that my kids and I could see my husband in Iraq ( we sent him the Sable Brown one ) . I tried hooking a webcam up to our desktop computer at home with no avail . and these mini netbooks were very affordable and have a webcam already in them . I'm not too computer savvy but I managed to figure out how to hook this up and get internet service within a day . A day , only because I had to run to the store to buy a wireless router for it . Even with it being so compact , the words on the screen aren't too small to read because if you set the font size to 100% it's just like having a regular sized laptop ( just smaller ) . In fact , I think the size is the only difference when being compared to a regular sized laptop . I like that it's small in size . I can easily take it with me anywhere I go and it's also lightweight too . The video and speakers work great . The video could be better though . I've read a lot of people complaining about the sound on these but I've had no problem . Then again , I haven't used it for video chat or anything in a noisy environment . It's nice for the kids to have as their own little computer when I'm on the PC . All in all I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend this product .

Just trying to figure out how to make my recovery disc without th external drive set up yet . Hope it helps

    • 069 4  I just got the toshiba nb 205 and love it . The keyboard is very nice , the screen is nice and it runs very smoothly . If you're looking at buying a netbook this is the one ! The price is unbeatable and the quality is great . PROS : Keyboard - feels pretty much full size Screen - looks very nice ( for what is expected of a $300 netbook # Portability - I'm used to my 6 lbs . laptop so this is a very nice weight at about 2.9 lbs . Surfing the web - I registered it to my home network and it works perfectly Overall quality - Very solidly built , looks amazing , and the outer shell is fingerprint proof CONS : Desktop - can't customize it ( to me it's no big deal , planning on getting Windows 7 anyways ) Nothing else - it's a wonderful netbook Thank you for a wonderful product toshiba
    • 070 4  I really checked out the options before I bought a netbook . I already have two other laptops ( a 14.1 and a 15.6 ) , but as I found out flying back and forth to California this past summer , they weren't as portable as I would have liked and the battery life wasn't great at all , especially on a 6 hour flight so the ultra-portability and long battery life was very important and was my primary motivation for wanting one of these . What impressed me the most about the Toshiba was the styling , the keyboard , the screen , and of course the battery life . The styling is hands down the best one out there . I've seen others that I liked , but the majority of them have that glossy case that show fingerprints and smudges very easily . The Toshiba case is both sturdy and textured and doesn't show smudges at all . The keyboards on the other models were good , but I found that I kept hitting multiple keys and the character that would show up was never the one I wanted . The raised keys on the Toshiba keyboard is great . The spacing of the keys is great eliminates me hitting multiple keys at once . I've seen other people have said that the keys are a little slippery and at first I thought the same thing , but I got used to it very quickly . The screen is what really caught my eye . The screens on the other models I was looking at looked good , but the screen on the Toshiba had considerably better colors . It was bright and the colors definitely seemed more vivid whereas the colors on the other screens definitely appeared to be more dull . Even when using Toshiba's eco Utility , the screen retains its rich colors . The battery life on this netbook has been INSANE in comparison to it's full-size counterparts . It does take a long time charge the battery , but I usually recharge it overnight so to me , it's no big deal . Since I bought this netbook , I have consistently gotten 9 hours out of each charge and in most cases can go two days between charges . Windows 7 Starter was disappointing and at first , the 1GB of RAM definitely caused some issues when multitasking , but I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium and upgraded to 2GB of RAM and the performance is considerably better . Don't get me wrong , it was good before , but it's awesome now . Yes , it ultimately brought the total cost to $500 , but it was totally worth it . I knew going into this that I wanted a netbook so I could check emails , surf the web , stuff like that . I knew that they weren't going to be as powerful as the full-sized notebooks so I didn't expect a powerhouse and if that's what you want , don't get one , but for what I specifically planned on using this for , it's PERFECT . As a side note , yes , the tiny mono speaker kind of sucks , but again , for what I bought this netbook for , I can live with that . I have used Skype quite a bit since I bought this and the speaker has been reasonable to hear out of ( although I have to mute the TV to hear it which , truth be told , I probably should do anyway if I'm talking to someone ) . Computer sounds , videos , etc , again , the little tiny speaker is reasonable so I'm good .
    • 071 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) What first attracted me to this Toshiba netbook is the color . . . . being brown my favorite .

The battery life is amazing . I truly recommend this product to anyone looking for a notebook . It also looks good with the blue accents . The keys are comparable to a regular laptop . The only drawback is the volume setting . One has to use headphones to listen to video or music . I still love it !

The battery life is great . I find the keyboard very comfortable . The only issue I have is the touchpad is very sensitive and I have accidentally sent emails before they are complete . It is probably a setting but I have not investigated that just yet . The screen is bright and streaming video works very well . I did upgrade to 2G memory and it has worked out well for me . I highly recommend this device ! Enjoy .

    • 081 4  This Toshiba is more expensive than most other netbooks on the market , but it's worth every penny . The keyboard has no flex , and the keys are separated which is a must for people with big / clumsy fingers . It also comes with a full size touchpad and two fullsize mouse buttons . The overall build quality is excellent and the battery life is amazing . In terms of cons , though , it does only have a mono speaker , I've had some issues with the fn key and the Toshiba drivers , and they load the computer with some useless software that pops up every so often to try to get you to buy Toshiba services ( - 1 star ) .

    • 084 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325WH 10.1 - Inch Frost White Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) After much consideration I decided to purchase the Toshiba mini .

Required help to set up my USB modem , but was able to tether my Iphone without a hitch . It's light and good looking - lots of oohs and ahhs from friends .
    • 090 4  I bought this computer in November 2009 . I don't appreciate the battery extending from the rear . But my biggest disappointment is the camera . The camera is of a very poor quality . The speakers are third class if not worse . I use both the camera and the speakers for Skype a lot ! The new model NB305 , has taken care of the battery design and the speakers as it appears . So , I am returning this item and replacing it with NB305 .
    • 091 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325WH 10.1 - Inch Frost White Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I got one of these to take on a trip , during which the machine limped along with a specific problem - - after a random amount of time running , anywhere from 30 seconds to about an hour , it would freeze and reboot . This would always happen with the hard drive light stuck on , making me think the problem was with the hard drive . When I got back , I returned it to Amazon for a replacement . That came quickly and at first seemed fine . Great in fact . I liked the keyboard , I like Windows 7 , the machine feels pretty nippy . It wakes up very quickly and is really small and lightweight . Then after two days it too developed a hard drive problem . This time it wouldn't boot at all . I returned it to Amazon for a full refund . Amazon's processing of returns was great . In my experience , the unreliable hard drives Toshiba uses sabotage this otherwise excellent product . One more gripe , though this isn't specific to the Toshiba Mini - Windows 7 starter edition , which is the operating system that comes with this laptop , doesn't let you set your own desktop background . The desktop you get has a big Microsoft Windows logo . The software is intentionally nobbled so you can't change it . I find that pretty offensive .

But Windows Starter edition is a big disappointment . If you planing to run more then 3 applications at once or even change desktop background to anything then default wavy blue , stay away from products with Windows Starter edition . It appears to me that originally Toshiba was supplying this product with Home edition ( it's a lot of referrals all across user's manual to non-available OS features ) , but later on decided to save some money by switching to Starter edition .

Back to the laptop . . . the best thing about this netbook is you can take it on transoceanic flights and not worry about the battery dying on you or having to lug around spares or large bettery packs as the battery lasts 9 hours easy . This netbook is a great find at a great price ; perfect for travel ( blogging , emailing , uploading photos , and internet surfing at web cafes or hot spots ) . Toshiba's netbook and laptop never dissappoints ! !

    • 102 4  Have had this little beauty for 2 - 3 months . Love it . Has all the right stuff ; good looks , well built , excellent battery life , and functions great . In addition , Windows 7 Started is much better than Vista . I do recommend the RAM upgrade to 2 GB , as it does speed it up a bit at a low price . Overall , very very satisified with this little Toshiba .

I'm still getting used to using the mini , but that's not the mini's fault . I don't like the touch pad , prefer to use a mouse , but not enough room on a classroom student chair / desk . Again , that's not the mini's fault , it's mine . Am planning to use summer break to master my mini and every other electronic device I've acquired . The Windows 7 Starter is a bummer . Talk about bait and switch . I don't need all the bells and whistles of Windows 7 Office Premium and have already purchased ( through Amazon ) Windows 7 Student and Home . All in all , I'm pleased with this purchase and have been with all I've purchased through Amazon .

    • 105 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I'm a real desktop fan and never used a laptop much unless forced to . Things haven't changed since I bought the Toshiba netbook but this fills a need of mine . It's great when I travel and want to surf the web and check email . It takes up much less room than a laptop and the battery really does last nine hours ! A great investment for my needs

    • 107 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 Series 10.1 - Inch Netbook ( 160GB Hard Drive ) ( Personal Computers ) originally I gave this a much better review ( including a nice review to Windows 7 ) , but two weeks later the computer is completely dead . Toshiba tech support was useless , but the seller is great & is giving me a refund . I'm going back to a mac - it may weigh more & cost more , but it's never died on me this soon .

    • 115 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BN 10.1 - Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) This was a great purchase . It was cheap , it works great , and it's super portable . I love how long the battery life is , I love the keyboard size and mousepad size . Windows starter is completely usable . The only thing you can't do with it is change the background , which really is not that important . Everything else is customizable . I've even got my taskbar hidden so i can maximize my usable screen space . Now , this is all the things I love about it , now to talk about some of the downsides . For one , it is slower than my old computer , but what can you expect when going from a 2.2GHz dual core to a 1.6GHz single core . Nevertheless , its not unbearably slow . It might be for someone who has absolutely no patience , but for me , I can handle it . It can even play a few older , or simpler games . For example , it can run Starcraft and World of Warcraft just fine . Another bad thing is that whether or not the wifi , mouse , brightness , almost anything , is controlled by software on the computer , rather than a physical switch . This would be fine if the software always worked , but I've had a bunch of problems with mine . When I first got it the software didn't even work and I had to reinstall it . Now maybe I just got a lemon , and on other computer it works without there ever being problems , but for me , i've had some problems . The biggest reason that this is annoying is because the trackpad is so big that it gets in the way of typing a lot of the time . So if I want to type something long it's really bothersome when it doesn't work ( like right now ) . The only solution I've found for this is to never put it to sleep or hibernation . The software always works after its been restarted . Even so , restarting takes about a minute longer than waking up from sleep , so I don't always want to shut it down . Also , the mouse sometimes loses some of its features . Like scrolling and center click , which I use a lot . It still retails its base functionality , but losing the extras seems unnecessary and annoying . For my final say , don't make this your only computer . I love its portability and battery life , but its slowness is a bit of a drawback . Buy it . It's awesome . But make sure you have something else to work on at home .

Some computer engineers have told me Toshiba is the best in Laptops / Netbooks . Love the keyboard , the design , the color , the speed , the battery life , etc . . . I wished it would be lighter in weight and the screen would have the size of the lid ( the framework could be thinner ) . . . Anyhow , I love it ! ! !

Bought mostly for travel and ordered the pink by mistake but wife likes it so maybe pink was a wise move ! Upgraded to memory to 2 gig and have had no problems . The speaker on bottom is not great but use it mostly with earphones or portable speakers so sound is fine for them . Windows 7 Starter is fine for my needs . Can't go wrong at amazon's price .

It does everything promised , and more . It does not have the ability of a laptop or desktop , but at times it performes as good as or better than my laptop . Windows 7 is neat . The only downfall I see with Windows 7 Starter is that you can not change the desktop picture . All in all , I love this netbook !

Many errors were preventing the computer from full performance . Tiny screen . AND , I can purchase a full size , performing refurbished laptop for less than the price of this netbook ! Some of which were once selling for $700 - $1200 . . .

I was concerned that the 10.1 inch screen might be to small . I was so wrong . My Toshiba Mini is just perfect for me . I use it to surf the web , looking at recipes , email etc . The battery last forever . It is very light , I can take it anywhere I go . I couldn't be happier .

    • 133 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325WH 10.1 - Inch Frost White Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) Windows 7 Starter is missing some features that would be nice to have , but it is over all an average OS . It makes sense to have an OS like that on such a small computer . It's very portable , very small and lightweight . The processor in this Toshiba is just as fast as the processor in my larger older laptop ( 1.66 ) but my other laptop is considerably faster . It's a little frustrating , because I could really use a little extra speed with the Toshiba cause I'm usually in a hurry when I'm using it . I would not pay full price for this item . I got it on sale , but it was well worth the sale price .

    • 137 4  I bought this netbook last year , within the first month of it coming out . I have used it almost every day since then . At that time , to me the big advantage of netbooks were portability and battery life . Since that time , there seems to me more and more full size laptops at reasonable prices with 8 + hour battery lives . Less portable , but more functional with equal battery life . However , if you know you want a netbook , this is a very solid notebook that has worked really well for me with word processing , presentations , microsoft office and openoffice without much problem . Internet surfing is not a problem . Even connecting the computer to a television to watch some high def internet programs or netflix streaming works pretty good . So for a netbook I think it has very good performance . The battery does seem to last about 8 to 10 hours depending on its use . I did a lot of research on the various netbooks , and ultimately chose this one because it seems one of the more solidly constructed . Some of the weakness ( which is why i am giving 4 , not 5 stars ) : 1 . Speaker sound is poor . Headphone sound is fine . 2 . Typing is jumpy unless the trackpad is disabled . I type a lot , and was very frustrated with the cursor just randomly moving all over the place without notice . It was extremely frequent , meaning once every 2 to 4 lines . Finally went to the forums , and realized this was a very frequent problem due to the thumb touching the trackpad while typing . Ultimately I had to disable the trackpad completely ( under control panel , mouse settings ) and only use a wireless mouse ( purchased a tiny Kensington K72345US Wireless Mouse with Nano Receiver from amazon , and it has worked very well for me ) . So , if you plan on using it for typing a lot , you may need to be prepared to abandon the trackpad .
    • 138 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 Series 10.1 - Inch Netbook ( 160GB Hard Drive ) ( Personal Computers ) I was very apprehensive about buying a windows 7 netbook with only 1gb of ram , and in general , about running windows 7 on such a low powered machine . Yes there is some lag in the os , but for the price / size it is very manageable . I had a windows 7 professional key around , and used it with anytime upgrade , which took about 20 - 25 minutes , but did not degrade the performance any noticeable level after installation . ( I also had a key from home premium from when the $30 student edition was out before launch , it did not like it for anytime upgrade ) This is a very well built machine . Fit and finish is excellent . No odd gaps or sounds from the unit . The fan can get loud in a dead quiet room , but in normal use is not noticeable . Other than that , just general netbook complaints . Screen is small , but pressing F11 in a web browser helps a lot . If you are in a class that uses Pearson's MyMathlab , this screen resolution is the same as the applet , so it works well with a full screen browser . ( This is a common netbook trait ) They keyboard is probably one of the nicer one's I've used on a netbook . Very solid ( not spongy like some others ) I just wish they would come up with a design that has a longer left shift , so i don't get ' zzz ' everytime I try . Using shift to get any of the symbols on the numbers ( ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) ) feels unnatural . I can't comment on maximum battery life , I've not had it long enough to have it drain all the way down , but I did use it for a few hours with wifi turned on , and it was in the mid % 70s when I shut it down . The drive park feature is neat , and is something that you don't see as much as you should , for machines so portable . The is a 3d view of the drive you can pull up , and watch it rotate as you move this unit . A lot of people bring up the speaker , and I'd agree that it is poorly placed and quiet . Another issue I've seen people mention is the ~ key being down next to the spacebar ; I have normal sized hands , and have no use for this on a daily basis , so it isn't an issue for me personally .

I've always been a desktop type of guy and I'll admit , it took a little getting use to . It was very easy to start up and now I have almost converted all of my data from my desktop to my new netbook . Great product and Great price !

Went to control panel and disabled the tap function and all is well .

    • 144 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325WH 10.1 - Inch Frost White Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I bought this for taking notes in college . It is light , looks nice , and has enough battery to last an entire day of classes . This is a major plus in my opinion . Toshiba should load MS Office though . I have two complaints : the mouse pad and buttons . The mouse locks up sometimes so I can't use the touchpad . It seems to correct itself in a few seconds though . This is not a huge problem but is annoying when in class . The second is the rather loud mouse button . When you click it , people ten or 15 feet away can hear it . It's makes a clunk sound . The screen is colorful , it's pretty fast , and the keyboard is silver and large enough for a man's bigger fingers - you can see the keyboard in low light and there are less errors when typing like other netbooks I tried . Overall , it's worth the money and will not disappoint in most areas needed by a student or busy e-mailer . I'd recommend it to anyone . ( I connect a mouse sometimes when doing alot of cursor movement . )

    • 148 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) This is a great portable computer to take on the road . It is small but well designed and looks great . I only wish I had ordered the 250 Gb model rather than the one with 160 Gb and the webcam . I didn't know there was another model with the larger HD and I never use a webcam , but shame on me . I upgraded to 2 Gb memory and it runs fine . The operating system ( Win 7 ) is slow on this netbook and Explorer takes a while to display folders and files . I am not sure why , but I have a dual core with 8 Gb on my desktop and it is much faster . Other than that I can't complain . I use mine for school and e-mail / web surfing and have never had a problem . I would highly recommend the Toshiba pouch because it looks good and fits like a glove . I put mine in my backpack and it takes quite a beating in the protective pouch . One thing I do not believe is the supposed 9 hour battery life . No way . Mine went low in 2 1 / 2 hours while opening / reading / closing about 30 word docs . I am not sure where they got the 9 hour claim but maybe if you have only 1 doc opened and are just reading it then maybe 9 hours is achievable , but if you are doing some frequent IO work , the battery life is easily cut by 2 / 3 . BUT , as far as netbooks go , this is the best I have seen or read about . A definate two thumbs up .

It is a perfect size for the airplane and works even when the seat is cramped and the person ahead of you has their seat fully reclined . It has all the power of my larger laptop in a small package . I also have the ACER , which is quite a bit lighter in weight but has a short battery life of only about one hour or so . I like the ACER too but the short battery life is what made me change to the Toshiba . I must admit though that I prefer Windows XP over Windows 7 and I regret that I did not buy the Toshiba a couple of months earlier and get Windows XP . I would definitely recommend the computer and I bought it on Cyber Monday from Amazon on a great deal , $328 which included shipping and tax ( actually no tax needed ) . This is $100 cheaper than buying it at the store , $400 plus tax . I would recommend it to friends

Have not used windows enough to know if it runs well or not .
    • 154 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 Series 10.1 - Inch Netbook ( 160GB Hard Drive ) ( Personal Computers ) Just thought I would note the following : 1 . The computer usually fails to display a wireless log-in when you are in a hot spot or wi-fi environment . This makes it nearly impossible to sign onto sites . So , not much use for the usual travelling and / or coffee house use . 2 . Problem #1 also exists for my friend who also bought this computer . So my problem is not just me , it occurs with the only other machine that I personally know . 3 . Battery life is far less than stated . 4 . My machine had to be repaired . It was returned with an entirely new set of problems and is not usable . 5 . Toshiba support calls alwys end up on hold and then you get cut-off . So far , 6 tries have ended in futility . 6 . This machine does not come with excel , Word , or powerpoint . That you have to buy separately , or upgrade at additional cost . Please factor that in when considering the price . I am attempting to return the device . Will update when / if either Amazon or Toshiba address the issue .

I was very disappointed that I paid too much though . About 2 weeks after I got mine I bought my daughter one for $36 less

Very pleased with it . Not so thrilled about the Windows 7 it came with ; it's very neat in some ways and I suppose I'll get used to it .

It has a laptop feeling with a better keyboard and mouse pad . Phenomenally portable . Battery a little less than 9 hrs , but , certainly 7 or so with heavy processing use . The Toshiba telephone service was also great running through some of the windows7 idiosyncrasies and the Toshiba accessories . I totally recommend this portable computer .

    • 164 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) It was purchased as a gift by my grandchildren for their mother . They had ordered a Kindle but returned it when I pointed out all of Toshiba's features . I had thoroughly researched the item after it was highly recommended over Kindle by several friends . One of the selling features was the 9 hour battery life . I was amazed to find it on sale at Amazon and extremely pleased to have free shipping . It even arrived a day before the expected delivery date ! My daughter just loves it and is constantly talking about all of its features - - especially the convenience of internet access . So far there has not been one thing negative about it . I highly recommend this product as well as Amazon.com !

The portability makes this computer easy to use anywhere , anytime . It takes a little getting used to looking at such a small screen . I like the netbook design and Windows 7 , but HATE the fact that it's only Windows 7 Starter . Still , I'd rather have Windows 7 Starter than XP . Battery life seems very good .

Network connection right besides a usb port and it limits what you can insert in that port . Also , battery life is not 9 hrs = closere to 6 hrs . Battery life icon shows % and not amount of time remaining , Keyboard is great . Also , with some devices attached you will require a USB hub that has AC connection .

I believe that an option to upgrade Windows 7 Starter to Home Premium or higher should have been offered at time of purchase . Thw Win 7 Starter does not even allow you to add a personal screen saver . I have talked with a Rep from DataVision but communication went silent when I asked them to pay for the return shipping expense . The other features of the computer are great . Too bad we could not come to an agreement on a software change .

When plugged in , never stops charging . Gets up to 100% , then with 5 minutes of use , goes to 93% after 30 minutes 47% . Runs very slow . But it looks nice ! I have another Toshiba and it is great , so I am very disappointed with this one .

It has been everything she hoped for . Past experiences with other laptops had discouraged her by requiring chillers , short battery life and all-around slow performance . This Toshiba eliminates these problems and allows her to enjoy the internet experience without becoming a computer geek . She is very happy with this computer and would recommend it to anyone who simply wants to email , read the news , do her casual shopping and read our daughter's blog . Simple stuff - - yep and this computer allows her to do these things effortlessly and with a smile on her face .

Not sure if it's a minimal memory problem , but unit tends to fade in and out at times . It doesn't crash , and thus far , it is only an inconvienience .

    • 181 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I bought this netbook to run one application which according to the specs it should have been able to do but it failed miserably at it . While I tend to think that it's windows 7 rather than the netbook itself , it ended up being worthless to me and I returned it . Amazon then kept $50 of what I paid on the return without specifiying why . So if you need an underpowered computer , even for a netbook , back but a company that I won't do business with anymore , amazon , then this is a machine for you .

    • 184 4  Purchase Netpc on 8 / 12 / 09 and Toshiba refuse to upgrade me to Windows 7 - because it came with Windows XP preinstalled ! Now they are selling them with Windows 7 preinstalled go figure .

  • 120 4  Got this one because of reviews and good price on Amazon .

  • 128 4  This is my first netbook and I love it . It's fast , good screen resolution , not so big so as to be inconvenient , and not so small that you can't see the keys or screen . I have no complaints at all except the battery life is not what they say it is . About 6 hours on the battery is all I am getting . But I would definitely recommend this one to my friends .
    • 083 4  I purchased two of these for my college age children . So far , they love them . They are very happy with the software that came preloaded , the battery life and the size and weight . Delivery was great . Very pleased !
    • 132 4  I love my netbook , it's light weight , easy the use , plenty of battery life with great features .
    • 136 4  I chose this model after reading reviews . I prefer toshiba and wasn't disappointed . Keyboard is large . Perfect for traveling .

  • Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325BL 10.1 - Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I have 3 Acers , 1 HPs , 1 Samsung ( the best ) and this crappy Toshiba . Good things : a . Great Keyboard ( which I dont use much since I have a wireless expanded one attached ) b . Nice Aluminim / Blue color ( that does not help at all for it's performance ) c . Battery Life : Very Good . Real thing : I replaced the original RAM and placed a Crucial 2GB card as I had done to the rest of all of my other netbooks . The Toshiba is not as fast overall . Samsung Netbook is by far the quickest to open , launch , start and shutdown . Samsung has not the strongest body . Acer does , however , for standard non-aggressive use , Samsung is the best of all . Also the battery never gets hot . Acer is the kind you can dump to the floor and no one will notice . Those two are just great . HP also is a fine computer . Toshiba does not support multiple monitors . I bought this computer along with a 23 monitor and a wireless keyboard and mouse in order to have 2 different screenshots at sight , but the expanded desktop feature does not work , since the original cheap video card only supports one monitor with the same view as the Desktop in the Netbook's screen . The unit looks very neat from the outide , and looks like a good value if all STANDARD TWENTYFIRST CENTURY's BASIC STANDARD TECHNOLOGY features came with it . Please note I am not talking about cutting-edge stuff . Just plain basics . But they are not included . Covnersely , instead of cheap , it turned out to be expensive since it does not meet basic standards . I found out that Toshiba did not even bother to use Bluetooth techonology , point which I took for granted , but pals . . . Toshiba does not grant anything . You need a magnifying glass to buy Toshiba before you do . I called Customer service to ask about the EXPANDED DESKTOP which I could not make work , and they cordially said We are sorry . . . You can take your computer to Toshiba Service Center but you will have to pay yourself for your new multiple monitor Video Card . Just need to check Windows 7 help center , to find out they donot even contemplate such an instance . No computers are designed without this feature . Except Toshiba , of course . Basically , I have a brand new left over 23 monitor , a brand new wireless Microsoft Keyboard and a wireless mouse which I will give my Son for his birthday since I cannot use it with my brand new Toshiba . This Toshiba , is not used to what it was meant for , since lack of bluetooth and lack of multiple monitor support , turned it to a great shopping list computer . WQhy be so pesimistic ? ? ? I Type Milk , Salt , Peanut Butter and so on , and it works perfectly for that , since the keyboard is really nice . It is a great Netbook for everyone's kitchen ! ! ! ! ! !
    • 064 4  This review is from : Toshiba Mini NB205 - N325WH 10.1 - Inch Frost White Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life ( Windows 7 Starter ) ( Personal Computers ) I'm a first year college student and I was looking for a small laptop that had enough memory to save all my course notes onto without needing an external drive . I own a very large but wonderful 17 HP laptop but it was a hassle to bring to class and in my lecture halls there is rarely enough room to sit comfortably with such a large computer . So I went on a very long and tedious search that finally led me to this computer . At first I was a bit weary seeing as how it is so much smaller compared to my other computer but I found the transition relatively painless . The keyboard is almost full size and the only problem I've been having is pressing the s instead of the a . The screen is really perfect and although the web cam features and speakers are a little lacking I couldn't be happier with my laptop . I'm definitely going to recommend this product to my friends who are having similar problems .

    • 114 4  love the color , and what not . . . but this product ( at least for me ) had the keyboard pad falling off by the 1st week of use . . . two thumbs down
    • 178 4  I bought this computer two days and I have not been able to access the web via my wireless connection yet . My internet is working fine on all of my other computers on my the network . The weird thing is that , I can only access google.com and nothing else . And the netbook claims that it is receiving my internet at a 100% ( all five bars of the wireless indicator are lit up ) . Even weirder , when I went to return it , there was another customer in line with the EXACT same problem . She could only access google.com and nothing else . FIVE hours on the phone with tech support did not solve anything . So if you buy this computer it may not work with you router , which pretty much makes this netbook useless and defeats that purpose of getting netbook . A netbook is supposed to be portable and if I have to worry about whether this or that router is compatible with it , than this netbook is not portable .
