The first caveat is this remote is bluetooth controlled , so if you are trying to club this remote functionality in a universal remote , it could possibly not work , especially since most of the universal remotes in the market are infra red based . So if you are like me , thats another RC to search for on the couch , among the other RCs you already have . Additionally , if you are watching TV and press ANY button on this remote accidentally , the system switches the PS3 on , and in my case , switches to the PS3 device on the screen . So I keep this RC far far away , when not in use .
Other than this , no functionality issues with the remote , and Sony has not moved the price on this remote any lower for the past one + year . So if you are like me and are thinking of buying this remote for your PS3 movies , think no more . Go for it ! Its the best buy on Amazon .

My review is going to be pretty different from the others , because i actually do not own a PlayStation 3 at all - - i bought this remote to use with my iMac and Remote Buddy ( [ . . . ] ) . So please bear that in mind . : )
Firstly , some general comments on the design and functionality of the remote :
1 . As others mentioned , it has a ridiculous amount of buttons - - 51 in total . I think if i was using this strictly as a remote control for watching videos , i would find this pretty obnoxious . However , as a remote for controlling your entire COMPUTER , it is quite useful . In fact , the high button count was one of the reasons i went with this remote ( the other reasons were Bluetooth support and low price ) .
2 . The remote is pretty lacking in bells and whistles . There are no lights to indicate whether a button has been pressed , whether the battery is dying , & c . No indicators of any kind . There is also no lighting of the keys , not even glow-in-the-dark ink , which would have been nice . However , i find that some of the other reviews have exaggerated the significance of this ; i haven't had any issues so far finding any of the buttons in the dark . All the important ones , like play / pause / stop and the direction pad , are quite easy to identify using only your fingers .
3 . It is pretty decent-sized , but i guess that's expected since it's got a lot of keys . It is not heavy , however , and it feels OK in your hand . Not perfectly ergonomic , but certainly ergonomic enough for a 20 $ remote .
4 . The remote uses two AA batteries ( which are included ) . I haven't had it long enough to see how long these last , but a few months seems to be the consensus on the PS3 , and i assume it's the same with a computer . ( Remote Buddy has the option to disconnect the device after a while to save power , but you don't have to use it if you don't want to . )
5 . I agree with some of the other reviews that the order of the play / stop / pause buttons is irritating and non-intuitive . Luckily , you can map these to whatever you like with RB . : )
OK , that's the general stuff . The rest of my review is mainly applicable to the remote's use with Remote Buddy on a Macintosh computer , so if you want this for a PS3 or anything else you can probably ignore it :
1 . As i said , the remote has lots of keys ( i haven't even found uses for them all yet ) . And Remote Buddy does support all of them ! In fact , it supports not only the ' press ' state of each button , but also the ' hold ' state , so there are effectively 102 distinct buttons you can use . If button count is a factor in your decision , you won't find a better button : price ratio anywhere else .
2 . Pairing with RB is easy ; it appears to be the same process you use on the PS3 ( you hold the PS button + the Start button ) . It takes literally 10 seconds , if that . The device is then fully available for use with any RB function .
3 . As i also mentioned above , Remote Buddy has a power-saving feature for Bluetooth devices . This feature disconnects the remote control after it's been idle for a while ( you can set the time in minutes ) , and in theory should re-connect it once you press a button on the remote again . However , i have had trouble with this feature in practice ; once RB disconnects the remote , i can't get it to re-connect again . Others have mentioned the same problem in the RB support forum , and the developer is looking into it , so hopefully this will be sorted out soon .
4 . Probably goes without saying , but since the remote is Bluetooth you do of course have a lot of freedom when it comes to distance and direction . I can control my computer with this from all the way on the other side of my flat . Currently this isn't especially useful to me , but it will be VERY helpful when i buy an AirPort Express - - this will allow me to stream music to other rooms and control that music with a single remote control .
Overall this is one of the best options for use with Remote Buddy . It's cheap , featureful , and fully supported ( with the possible minor exception of the Bluetooth power-saving option ) .

I did not think I needed yet another remote control because I thought the six-axis had everything it needed for movie playing on the PS3 and , yet , I bought one . There were 2 initial reasons :
- my wife was missing a ' magic wand ' shaped remote for playing movies
- Amazon had it at a great price in one of them lightning deals
I ended up using it myself and , in fact , using it for more than just movie playing - see below .
But , let's do a quick inventory of features :
= It's blue-tooth enabled and , therefore , it's not taking any ports on your PS3 . This is probably important for anyone who has a 2 - USB ports console .
= It's wand-shaped , allowing the non-gamers to control their movie-watching activities while holding a familiar-shaped device in their hand .
= It maps ALL the six-axis buttons and performs everything a six-axis would do , except for the joystick features of R3 and L3 ( but you do have the push-down or ' click ' abilities for them ) .
= 2 AA battery powered ( still with the original Sony batteries after 4 months of use )
= Includes additional buttons that the movie-only users would expect on a remote such as :
+ a number pad
+ eject
+ red , green , blue , yellow buttons
+ play , stop , pause
+ slow ( step ) , scan ( left / right ) , prev / next
+ display , top menu , pop up menu , return
+ subtitles , angle , audio
What is interesting about this remote is that you can use it for much more than movie-playing . Given that it has all the six-axis buttons , guess what ? You can use it , and I do use it to :
- surf the web
- play music
- shop at the PSN store
- play certain games such as Sudoku
- turn the PS3 on / off when your six-axis controllers are in the charger and I am playing GT5 that is using a racing wheel
And , yes , you CAN turn the PS3 on and off with this remote . Turning it on is easy - you simply press the PlayStation button and the PS3 turns itself on . To turn it off , you either go as far to the left on the X-bar and all the way up and press Enter ( the turn-off PlayStation icon will be highlighted ) or you simply hold the PlayStation button pressed for a few seconds and then select ' yes ' and press the X button a couple of times .
Overall : I am happy with this peripheral . Yes , it's one more remote control but it's a pretty good one , for the reasons I stated above .

I find that I'm using the remote more and more , not only for playing movies but for navigating the XMB and at the PSN Store , also when playing music or slideshows . Due to its very convenient arrows wheel with an ' enter ' button in the middle , navigating the PS3 and doing just about anything other than playing games is a lot easier than using the PS3 game controller . Unlike the controller which normally requires two hands to hold , this is basically a one-hand operation where you hold the remote in one hand and operate the wheel with your thumb . And because it's Bluetooth , not IR ( Infrared ) , you don't even need to point it at the PS3 .
And , one word on battery life . After about 15 - 16 months of operation , this is probably the third set of batteries so I'd estimate battery life to be about 4 - 6 months . Not too bad .

If you want to pause your movie , you hit Pause . If you want to start your movie again , you hit Play . But between the Pause and Play buttons is Stop . Here Be Dragons .
Stop means it . Stop doesn't just stop the video from playing , it quits out of the Blu-Ray player and returns you all the way to the root PS3 menu . To start watching your disk again you need to select the Blu-Ray disk again , wait for it to boot up , wade through whatever previews and coming attractions are on the disk , re-enable the correct subtitles and menu settings , wait for the various FBI and MPAA warnings , locate the place where it stopped playing , and then resume watching . Hitting Stop whether you wanted to or not means you're going to spend at least the next five minutes not watching your movie .
The Stop button is so big and so centrally located that I can't count the number of times I've hit it in error , either by poking at Pause or Play in my darkened living room or by sitting on the controller . It's gone from being an occasionally frustrating surprise , to being an infuriatingly common blunder , all the way around to being some sort of perverse comic relief . What happened ? Why did the movie just stop ? Did you hit the STOP button by accident again ? You did ? THE REMOTE GOT US AGAIN . WE HATE YOU , REMOTE .
There are three ways that Sony could solve this problem .
- They could re-label the button Ruin My Evening , and replace the pushbutton with one of those covered safety switches that are used in military cockpits to arm weapons . A button with consequences this significant needs to be clearly marked with a protective cover that you have to move aside , so that there's no way you'll end up pushing it by accident without understanding what it's going to actually do .
- They could just remove the Stop button entirely . Nobody would miss it . There's already a Pause button if you need to take a break . There's a Top Menu button to return you to the top menu . There's a PS3 button to pop up the media bar ( with an option to quit the player ) , and an Eject button that also quits the player while ejecting the disk . There is nothing that the Stop button should do that another button isn't already doing .
- They could make the Stop button just return the user to the top level Blu Ray menu , and not quit out of the entire player . They could also make Play the opposite of Stop , where Play returns you to playing what Stop stopped you from playing .
Apart from the Stop button this would be a completely fine remote with a four or five star review . It's well built , it runs for weeks or months without batteries , and because it's Bluetooth ( not IR ) it doesn't need to be pointed at the player with line-of-sight to work . It's like a well-built Mercedes , with an extra pedal between the gas and brake that makes all four wheels fall off . WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT .
Update : It's actually pretty easy to remove the stop button yourself . Undo the screw on the underside at the bottom of the remote and carefully pry the upper and lower halves apart . Under the rubber buttons there's a layer of conducting pads , a plastic spacer layer , and the circuit board . You can either use a hobby knife to cut out the conducting pad that triggers the stop , or you can put tape over the circuit board contact to render the stop button mercifully unusable .

Most PS3 owners enjoy not only the gaming abilities of their system , but also the built in Blu-Ray DVD player . The Sony remote control accessory lets you play those movies with great ease .
The remote combines the regular buttons of our other DVD players with the funky look of the PS3 . You have a red , green , blue and yellow button - labelled with their color names ! You also get a circle , X , square and triangle to do a few things like brinigng up the options and back choices .
The main buttons - play , stop , forward , back - are laid out reasonably nicely at the bottom of the remote with large buttons . There are small buttons up on top for the number keys , and a very tiny eject button .
Missing completely is a power button ! ! You have to hit the PS button in the center and go through the regular PS3 menus to get the power to turn off . In fact , while I was writing this review , I accidentally hit a button on the remote and the PS3 turned on . We were watching regular TV , so now I have to wait until our show is over , switch over to the PS3 and use the buttons to turn the system back off again . That doesn't make much sense at all to me .
Also , on our Oppo DVD remote , the buttons glow which makes it REALLY nice to use in the dark or dim light that most people watch movies in . This unit is completely black with black buttons . This makes it pretty much useless in low light conditions until you memorize all of the button locations . You would think by now that remote control makers would have their buttons backlit or at least glow-in-the-dark to handle this .
The unit takes two AA batteries which makes it a bit heavy , but certainly within the normal range of remotes .

A must-have accessory for your PS3 Blu-ray DVD viewing pleasure ! I love that it works without having to point it at anything , thanks to being Bluetooth . . . you don't even have to be in the same room ! ( not that there is much application for the latter , but thought it worth mentioning ) . Anyway , it works perfectly and helps add to your PS3 experience . We have a nice universal remote also , but the Bluetooth factor makes this Playstation remote our family's favorite so far . I hope all remotes go that way eventually . . . much better than IR !

first of all this is a no brainer . . if you want to watch dvds or check out the awesome blu ray discs on your playstation 3 . . . this is a must have .
sure you can use the ps3 ' s sixaxis controller ( which i did for a few months ) . . but its not the same . . sometimes the controls mess up the movie viewing . . to put is simply its a bit awkward . .

the only things im not crazy about is that theres no backlighting for the buttons or a main power button on the remote . . . you have to have your ps3 on first . . again not a big worry . . . but i know some people that really went off on the lack of these . . to them i say relax . . there are other things more important

First off , when people complain there is no power button , they are just too lazy to push the down arrow and then the middle enter button . Whoopdee doo . It takes all of 1 second to power off the PS3 with the PS button so if you can't do that then you are extremly too lazy . Also , if you accidentally push a button and PS3 comes on but you don't want to switch your TV to see the PS3 menu , you can get up off your backside and hold your finger over the power button on the PS3 itself and it will turn off . The next complaint people have is with the Bluetooth part of it since they can't use normal IR universal remotes with the PS3 . Well , I personally prefer the Bluetooth since you do not have to have line-of-sight with anything to use it like you do with IR sensors . If you like watching movies from your bed and you're all curled up under your blanket you can just keep the remote under there with you and push buttons , the PS3 still picks up the signal . As for it not having the glow in the dark buttons . . . how many of you really press all those un-needed buttons when you're watching a movie ? At the most you need to know where Play Stop and Pause are . That's all you really need to memorize . You can easily feel for the big circle and I would hope you know up is up and down is down and so forth with enter in the middle .

This remote is a must have if you own a PS3 . I do have a couple gripes but they are minor annoyances .
1 . I wish the stop button was not between the pause and play buttons . I inadvertantly hit stop on many occasions . I am getting better at this but this could have been avoided by swapping the locations of the stop and pause buttons .
2 . No Backlight . This would have been a nice touch .
3 . No power button . There should have been a power button . The way to shut off the system now is to hold down the PS button the same as on a game controller , and navigate the menu to shut system off , then navigate to confirm that you want to do it . Not a big deal but sometimes I notice that I left the PS3 on and my TV is now on a different source so I have to either test my memory with a sequence of strokes on the remote or walk up to the PS3 and hold the power button to shut off .
The positive things about this remote far outweigh the negative . There is no comparison between using this remote for blu-ray viewing and the gaming controller . Also although some people have marked this controller score down for using blue tooth instead of IR , it is the only option with the PS3 . There is not IR receiver on the PS3 . Why mark the remote down for that ? Also the only people complaining about that are the ones who have elaborate universal remotes that they can't program to run their PS3 . 1 ) Since it uses an USB port for the infrared dong , it takes away one of your USB's . For those of you with the 2nd generation of PS3 , where you only have two USB port , you have to think about this issue carefully when you start adding accessories to your PS3 ( e.g . , external USB harddrive , the Eye , USB remote keyboard and mouse , etc )
2 ) Although it claims that you can control from 25 feet away , the catch is you have to point directly to the dong ; otherwise it does not work . In addition , if there is something in the front of it ( e.g . , pole , chair , coffee cup , etc ) it will not work . Comparing to a Bluetooth control ( working as an RF control ) , you can practically point to anywhere and it still works .
Now getting back on the 25 feet control claim , I did not test this because I don't have this need . But be realistic here ; unless you are one of those millionaire with a living like a football stadium , you also don't have this need . Most of your setting would be about 6 - 10 feet from your TV / PS3 and a blue tooth control would do just fine .
3 ) This is the deal breaker so I am going to take it back to Fry's . It does not have the PS button , which allows you turn on your PS3 remotely ! ! ! ! ( The Sony BD Remote Control has the PS button ) You have to walk to your PS3 everytime you want to turn it on . Then you can use your Blu Wave Remote , so what is the purpose of remote control ?

2 ) Easy to synch with your PS3 ( take me 1 minute )
3 ) You can practically point anywhere and it still work . For those of you who complaint about the buttons are not being responsive . Duh ! That is what the PS3 button is for . The PS3 button wakes up your remote control if it is in power saver / sleep mode .
Minuses :
1 ) Buttons are not as nice / stylist as Nykyo Blue Wave , but they are standard made like most of remote controls on market . So no big deal !
BTW , I don't work for Nykyo or Sony . I just want people out there to know what they are getting into , especially when you are reading mix reviews and don't know what to buy . I usually buy both and see what works for me . In this case , the decision is clear .

Don't know why people rated this 1 - 2 stars , they must have not known how to operate it or lacked some common sense .
#1 this remote does work to power off your ps3 . Since it includes the ps button alike the ps3 controller you can hold it and get the same options as on the controller , turn the remote or system off .
#2 the remote doesn't drain your batteries more than any other bluetooth device , you can turn it off to save power as stated above - turning it on is as simple as pressing any button for 1 - 2 seconds .
#3 the battery cover doesn't fall off as you claimed if operated with some common sense ( i.e . : don't rub it against your pants , sofa etc ) - it's pretty secure actually .
#4 this remote is bluetooth people and not IR capable - why don't you do your research and find out what bluetooth and IR mean , the fact that they are totally different technologies , thus this will never be compatible with an IR receiver , no bluetooth device will actually be .
#5 The remote doesn't turn on your ps3 by accident if common sense is also involved . People claimed that it turned on their PS3s when they sat on it on the couch . Well people , the same happens with your IR remote if you sit on it . Most remotes turn on the TV if a channel button or the on / off button is pressed . Also , be more careful / respectful with your stuff and handle it with care . . . this was not made to sit on it or hit it against the wall ! ! !
The lack of illuminated buttons does not surprise me , not all remotes do . In fact few dedicated remotes do - this is not an universal remote ! ! !
Also , button and text size are not too small either , if you don't see them get some glasses .
The only gripe I have is that it doesn't give any feedback when it's in use ( no LED nothing ) but I can live with that . This remote complements the ps3 as a blu-ray player very well .

The remote is great and a must have for Blu-ray viewing . However , I wanted to control the PS3 using my Harmony One remote so had to get the Nyko IR remote and use the USB dongle . It is definitely not as slick to use as the blu-ray remote and I have to have the blu ray remote on the table to turn the PS3 on and off from a distance .

I got a PS3 exclusively to use as a Blu-ray player , so of course I wanted a proper remote for it . Given that you're paying twenty bucks for a remote for a device that claims to be the be-all media center , this remote is pretty disappointing , though .
As far as doing its basic job as a blu-ray remote goes , it has the bases covered - - all the standard DVD-style remote buttons , and it controls blu-ray movies , which is what it's for .
It also features a directional pad and buttons corresponding to the four controller buttons ( plus start , select , and the shoulder buttons ) , so you can use it in all the other menus as well . Heck , if you had a game that didn't require the analog stick , you could probably even play a game with it , albeit awkwardly .
That said , if you look past the directional circle and three large play / stop / pause buttons , it's just a big mess of tiny buttons with difficult-to-read labels . Worse is the absolutely boneheaded decision to put the stop button BETWEEN Play and Pause . Why is this such a big problem ? Because it's REALLY easy to accidentally hit stop instead of pause or play , and on at least some blu-ray movies the movie refuses to take up where you left off if you hit stop ( I assume some stupid DRM restriction ) . So , one slip and you're stuck watching through all the FBI warnings and trying to get back to where you were .
Given the penalty for failure ( one which I would think Sony was aware of given that they designed the format itself ) , I'd rather the stop button was way the heck away from where I'm liable to bump it when trying to pause or reverse a bit . Even VHS wasn't that annoying .
I just don't get why Sony has apparently fired everybody who knew how to design a decent human interface ; my Sony lasersdisc player from back in the pre-DVD era had the best remote control I've ever seen , so it's not like they've always been incompetent . Heck , even my decade-old Sony VCR has a better remote than this thing .
Then there's the wireless-ness issue . It's not the remote's fault , exactly , but since the PS3 doesn't have an IR receiver , the remote uses bluetooth . On the bright side , it's got great range - - I could control the thing from 20 feet away through two walls . On the negative , it has great range , and since ANY button will turn on the PS3 ( not just the PS button in the center ) , it's incredibly easy to fire the thing up unintentionally . We store our remotes business-end down in a caddy so if a button gets bumped nothing happens , but with this one that doesn't help . Annoyance , but again , this is a $20 remote for a $500 media center , so I'd expect better .
In all , it gets the job done , and it's certainly better than using the controller , but it's a pretty poor remote when you consider Sony's emphasis on style and the pricetag of the system the thing's attached to .

But it turned out to be a completely different experience once I used the remote . Moreover the wireless controller requires recharging often if you play games on the PS3 , which is not at all a problem on the remote control . I'd say that this is a pretty good remote . I like how you can easily set it up and use the PlayStation Button to turn on and off the PS3 . My review is going to be pretty different from the others , because i actually do not own a PlayStation 3 at all - - i bought this remote to use with my iMac and Remote Buddy ( [ . . . ] ) . So please bear that in mind . : )
Firstly , some general comments on the design and functionality of the remote :
1 . As others mentioned , it has a ridiculous amount of buttons - - 51 in total . I think if i was using this strictly as a remote control for watching videos , i would find this pretty obnoxious . However , as a remote for controlling your entire COMPUTER , it is quite useful . In fact , the high button count was one of the reasons i went with this remote ( the other reasons were Bluetooth support and low price ) .
2 . The remote is pretty lacking in bells and whistles . There are no lights to indicate whether a button has been pressed , whether the battery is dying , & c . No indicators of any kind . There is also no lighting of the keys , not even glow-in-the-dark ink , which would have been nice . However , i find that some of the other reviews have exaggerated the significance of this ; i haven't had any issues so far finding any of the buttons in the dark . All the important ones , like play / pause / stop and the direction pad , are quite easy to identify using only your fingers .
3 . It is pretty decent-sized , but i guess that's expected since it's got a lot of keys . It is not heavy , however , and it feels OK in your hand . Not perfectly ergonomic , but certainly ergonomic enough for a 20 $ remote .
4 . The remote uses two AA batteries ( which are included ) . I haven't had it long enough to see how long these last , but a few months seems to be the consensus on the PS3 , and i assume it's the same with a computer . ( Remote Buddy has the option to disconnect the device after a while to save power , but you don't have to use it if you don't want to . )
5 . I agree with some of the other reviews that the order of the play / stop / pause buttons is irritating and non-intuitive . Luckily , you can map these to whatever you like with RB . : )
OK , that's the general stuff . The rest of my review is mainly applicable to the remote's use with Remote Buddy on a Macintosh computer , so if you want this for a PS3 or anything else you can probably ignore it :
1 . As i said , the remote has lots of keys ( i haven't even found uses for them all yet ) . And Remote Buddy does support all of them ! In fact , it supports not only the ' press ' state of each button , but also the ' hold ' state , so there are effectively 102 distinct buttons you can use . If button count is a factor in your decision , you won't find a better button : price ratio anywhere else .
2 . Pairing with RB is easy ; it appears to be the same process you use on the PS3 ( you hold the PS button + the Start button ) . It takes literally 10 seconds , if that . The device is then fully available for use with any RB function .
3 . As i also mentioned above , Remote Buddy has a power-saving feature for Bluetooth devices . This feature disconnects the remote control after it's been idle for a while ( you can set the time in minutes ) , and in theory should re-connect it once you press a button on the remote again . However , i have had trouble with this feature in practice ; once RB disconnects the remote , i can't get it to re-connect again . Others have mentioned the same problem in the RB support forum , and the developer is looking into it , so hopefully this will be sorted out soon .
4 . Probably goes without saying , but since the remote is Bluetooth you do of course have a lot of freedom when it comes to distance and direction . I can control my computer with this from all the way on the other side of my flat . Currently this isn't especially useful to me , but it will be VERY helpful when i buy an AirPort Express - - this will allow me to stream music to other rooms and control that music with a single remote control .
Overall this is one of the best options for use with Remote Buddy . It's cheap , featureful , and fully supported ( with the possible minor exception of the Bluetooth power-saving option ) .

My review is going to be pretty different from the others , because i actually do not own a PlayStation 3 at all - - i bought this remote to use with my iMac and Remote Buddy ( [ . . . ] ) . So please bear that in mind . : )
Firstly , some general comments on the design and functionality of the remote :
1 . As others mentioned , it has a ridiculous amount of buttons - - 51 in total . I think if i was using this strictly as a remote control for watching videos , i would find this pretty obnoxious . However , as a remote for controlling your entire COMPUTER , it is quite useful . In fact , the high button count was one of the reasons i went with this remote ( the other reasons were Bluetooth support and low price ) .
2 . The remote is pretty lacking in bells and whistles . There are no lights to indicate whether a button has been pressed , whether the battery is dying , & c . No indicators of any kind . There is also no lighting of the keys , not even glow-in-the-dark ink , which would have been nice . However , i find that some of the other reviews have exaggerated the significance of this ; i haven't had any issues so far finding any of the buttons in the dark . All the important ones , like play / pause / stop and the direction pad , are quite easy to identify using only your fingers .
3 . It is pretty decent-sized , but i guess that's expected since it's got a lot of keys . It is not heavy , however , and it feels OK in your hand . Not perfectly ergonomic , but certainly ergonomic enough for a 20 $ remote .
4 . The remote uses two AA batteries ( which are included ) . I haven't had it long enough to see how long these last , but a few months seems to be the consensus on the PS3 , and i assume it's the same with a computer . ( Remote Buddy has the option to disconnect the device after a while to save power , but you don't have to use it if you don't want to . )
5 . I agree with some of the other reviews that the order of the play / stop / pause buttons is irritating and non-intuitive . Luckily , you can map these to whatever you like with RB . : )

This remote will give your controllers a break . How ? Well as every PS3 owner has found out , the 10 - minute rule you can set your controllers to shut-off to simply is too short , which leaves everyone to choose to shut-off their controllers manually whenever they are not using it . What I like about the Sony PS3 Bluetooth / Blu-Ray remote is the fact that it uses plain ole ' Double A ( AA ) batteries . This is great because everyone has about hundreds of these suckers lying around , and stock-up on them whenever Walgreens or Wal-Mart has a sale on batteries . I can turn-off , or better yet never turn on my SIXAXIS Controllers while conveniently using my PS3 Blu-Ray / Bluetooth Remote to do the basic functions I would do while on my PS3 home screen . Of course I use it to watch my Blu-Ray / DVD movies as well . I surf the web using this , and even use it to eject my discs out of the PS3 ( lazy I know , but hey when you have access to the eject button on a remote you use it ) . This will help save your controllers power for the use of gaming only , while using the Remote to do the other menial tasks . Good Stuff Sony
BTW : I love the price . . . $20 bucks ? ! I guess Sony doesn't over charges like the other guys * coughs * Microsoft . Nice of Sony .

The main reason I use the PS3 is to watch downloaded movies and TV shows and blurays ( gaming comes second ) . . . if your like me then you must get this remote . If you only use PS3 to play games . . . you don't really need this remote than . Here is a quick pro / con list followed by more of my review :
Pro : Great size , shape and finish .
Easy to connect to PS3 ( read instructions )
Fully connect to ps3 without added devices at a cheap price
Ideal for the movie watcher
Cons : No dedicated power button
Battery life is relatively short
Not internet user friendly ( no joystick to move arrow )

This is my second remote I've bought , one for me and one for a friend . . . it's a must have if you use the ps3 to play movies that were downloaded or blurays . Eliminates the need to turn on and off the remote controller ( to save battery , I know an update has auto turn off to helped this problem ) everytime you want to pause skip ahead or what not . It's not the best to search through the internet on the ps3 or to opperate zooming in on pictures . . . simpley because it doesn't have a joystick to move freely .
Major Flaw though ! ! ! If you're like me and have the ps3 in your room and like to leave remotes on your bed in the middle of the night you maybe woken up by the sound of the PS3 turning on . This is because there is no dedicated power button . Instead any button if pushed will turn on the system . I have memerized how to turn the system off without turning on the tv which you learn pretty fast to help fix this problem .
I've seen people complain about no backlighting on the remote and small lables . . . this really doesn't matter . I found that the layout was pretty easy to learn and the labling was just fine . In fact , a lot of the buttons perform the same opperation . . . like enter , X , and play button all do the same thing . I also saw someone say there is no button to turn it off . . . just hold down the ps button like you do with the game controller .
Added bonus is that you can use it as an extra controller in games ( labled the 7th controller ) , however there is no joystick to move so don't expect too much use .
One button that could of been added that is not there . . . is one to switch viewing modes for movie play back . To switch from full screen , zoom , and normal ( ect . ) , the way to do this is to hit triangle move to the left a couple of icons and hit the tv screen icon . So a single button would have been a nice option .
I did find the batteries ran out faster then I expected ( a lot faster than normal remotes ) but at least you can check batter life by simply pressing the ps button once . It's always connected to the PS3 via bluetooth so what do you expect . I think my batteries last 2 - 3 months with daily use . . . maybe nickle-cadium ( sp ? ) batteries will last longer , I just use what is in the closet .
I gave this a 5 star rating . . . because how much easier it has made my life despite its short comings .
On a side note , do you ever find it funny they put an eject button on remotes . . . you still have to get up and remove / insert a disk anyways . Oh well .

I'd bought my PS3 about four or five months ago . I have a pretty nice HDTV and really wanted a Blu-Ray player to compliment it . It also didn't hurt that I had a bunch of PS2 games I still wanted to play .
After everything was all set up and I started watching a couple of movies , it became apparent extremely quickly that I was going to need a remote for the Blu-Ray features . Using the controller was just overly complex to make it a real option .
When I finally grabbed a remote , there were a few things I noticed immediately . Namely , the simple fact that it was a Bluetooth device meant that there was no chance that I was going to be able to use this with any of my other devices like my TV or my surround-sound receiver . Some people don't really care , but I hate having a thousand remotes lying around . I'd rather just have one and forget about it .
Considering that the PS3 is the only device that the remote is able to control , I fail to see why it's covered with buttons . Outside the obvious ' Play / Pause / Stop ' buttons , I don't understand the decision to make this look so much more complex then it has to be . I would have tried to make the button layout as simple as possible . If it's not going to be able to be used for another device , it ( at least ) could be easy to use . I would say that two-thirds of the remote's face , you'll never use .
Another reviewer mentioned it , but it bears repeating . If you touch any button on the device , it'll automatically cue-up your system . The PS3 is a wonderful piece of equiptment and I like it a lot , but man that sucker kicks out a TON of heat . 013 4 Not much can be said that already hasn't . It's an OK remote , on par with most typical remotes that are included with any stand-alone player . Sony really should have included this remote with the PS3 , it just makes sense , especially with their renewed push for the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player with the release of the 40GB model .
I can only give the remote 3 stars overall though . The buttons should glow or have backlighting . A few of the buttons could be labeled better or located more prominently . But as far as Sony remotes go , this is pretty good . The bluetooth functionality is great . It eats batteries like crazy .
Many people are incorrectly reporting that this remote does not have a power button . In a sense , that is somewhat true . Any button on the remote will turn on ( wake up ) the PS3 . This was a bad idea , they should have limited the wake-up functionality to the PS button in the center of the remote . This center PS button is also the off button . Simply hold the button down for about 3 seconds and the PS3 will ask if you want to turn it off , push the OK button , it shuts down .
As more and more AV components migrate to bluetooth remote control , I'm sure we will see universal remotes ( like the Logitech Harmony ) come forth with bluetooth capability . This remote will tide me over for a year or so until that day comes . . . . Hopefully before the PS3 has become obsolete .

I was a little miffed I even needed to get this because I already had a universal remote ( Harmony ) .
This remote works as advertised but the layout is less than stellar and they tried to map every single PS3 control button to the remote , so it's laden with buttons .
Also , you have to treat the remote just like one of the controllers and use the PS button to turn it on / off . Honestly , I think this is just an elongated PS3 controller .

If you have a PS3 and want to use it for media purposes , you need to buy this . There are no other remote controls on the market as of this date that allow you to control the PS3 fully like this one does . So , yes , this remote control is an essential accessory . Sadly , it is also a poorly designed one . Here are the issues I've run into :

029 4 I like this remote and the fact that it uses bluetooth , although I can appreciate the problem this causes for universal remote users . ( By the way , if these expensive units are so universal , why don't they include RF / Bluetooth functionality ? ) The way my PS3 is positioned , I'd have a hard time using an optical remote . The lack of backlit buttons might be a problem for some , but I find that I can't easily read backlit remotes anyway , and that lighting sure does eat batteries !
Prior to my purchase , I read the many reviews complaining of the lack of an on / off button ( which has more to do with PS3 design than the remote - notice the game controller is the same in this respect ) . What they fail to mention is that the PS3 CAN be turned on and off from this remote , or from the game controller , for that matter . Any button will turn it on , and it can be turned off through the PS3 menu system . Just press the PlayStation button for a couple of seconds , then the X button twice in response to the on-screen prompts . Once you know it works this way , it's not even necessary to be able to see the screen . It's very reliable , and takes only a few seconds .
Overall , I feel this remote does a good job controlling PS3 movie playback and recommend it , especially considering the price .

The PS3 comes with an incredibly short usb cable for charging your controller , as such , leaving that plugged in and using it to navigate is a no go . I use my blu-ray time as time to recharge my controller , ( because of the incredibly short cable ) , and use my remote to control my movies , and maybe checkout the psn store occasionally .
Pros , its the best PS3 Remote currently available . It looks very nice and high end , you can tell it was well made , rather . . . well built .
The problems come in the actual USE stage . Setting up the remote is rather simple that's not a problem . But it could be easier for the less technically sound .
The worse thing about this remote is , if you touch 1 button , your ps3 comes on . This is stupid . If you got your remote on a table , and you accidentally set another remote on it while your watching tv , guess what , ps3 pops on . ( better make sure you setup your system to not auto start ) .
This would be so much better if only the PS button effected the powering up of the PS3 , but thats not the case .
Another option that would eliminate this is a simple hold button , that is also not the case .
Another problem with the remote is its not illuminated . I know it doesn't say illuminated , but I like watching movies in the dark . One thing I noticed when using the Sixaxis to control movies was that the trigger buttons were easily pressed by setting the controller down . This would either cause the movie to begin FF or REW . That was annoying . Since I use the PS3 so much for watching movies , this was an accessory I was happy to see hit the market .
It is pretty much a standard Sony remote . I have several Sony TVs , and this remote is shaped very much like them . It will function exactly as you would expect and it makes watching movies a lot easier than utilizing the Sixaxis . This will be money well-spent if you use the PS3 for movies !

056 4 I got a PS3 for Christmas as a Blu-Ray and regular DVD player . I was an early adopter on the Xbox 360 and was SURE that HD-DVD would be the winning format . History has shown that to be wrong . Stinging from my poor decision , I waited it out and well , what the heck , adopted Blu-ray hoping that my purchase wasn't the start of some sort of Blu-Ray pandemic that would 86 yet another own-your-own-media format . When it tanks , I'm movin ' to Uruguay to harvest guano .
However , I am one of the few people alive that can comment on the Xbox remote control vs . the PS3 Remote . The major difference is that the Xbox control LIT UP .
The PS3 does not light up . Which really , is numb . Oh sure it's Bluetooth but when we watch movies , it's not in a brightly lit room . We're rockin ' the home theater experience which means it's dark and you have to watch out that you don't inadvertently sit on a nesting feline . The ergonomics are weak meaning that there is no real texture telling you that one button means play and the other stop or pause or fast forward or chapter ahead . They are sized a whisker differently but really , why no lights ? Or even something that glows ? Or package it with a flashlight . You're killin ' me here .
And I'm dying to know , what are the multi-colored buttons for ? Actually , that's hyperbole . I truly don't care . Someone will post that the buttons actually have an importance rivaled only by the discovery of the polio vaccine or fire but I could give a hoot . I'd press these pretty buttons ( they sure are tempting since everything else is blacked out ) but in the event it somehow controls some behavior on the PS3 that would forever eliminate the color red from existence , I'm keeping my curiosity at bay .
That said , when you can actually see the buttons it does work without any flaws and you don't have to wave it around trying to make contact with the PS3 as it's not an infrared signal from the remote to the Blu-ray . And mixing Bluetooth with Blu-Ray is pretty awesome . Not really but is it simply coincidence all of this bluish high tech stuff ? I think not .
Anyway , Xbox remote which still works on my 6 HD-DVD's which will one day be relegated to ultra-high-definition beer coasters gets 5 stars . Ho hum PS3 darkened remote gets 2 because it's of very little use in a darkened room and it has the potentially doomsday multicolored buttons .

- This is a knock on the ps3 - netflix experience more than anything else but controlling the netflix streamed content is not as intuitive as that of a BD disc . Cant blame the remote but maybe Sony / Netflix will think about a new iteration of the remote with hotkeys for the netflix ps3 user ?
- bluetooth means not compatible with other devices and cannot function as a universal remote . So one more remote on your desk .
All in all , worth spending $20 especially if you watch a lot of blu ray movies on your Ps3 . For $20 , you cant go wrong .

074 4 I have owned the PS3 Blu-ray Remote since April 2008 when I first got my PS3 . It is a good remote and works very well . It is useful for navigating the Cross Media Bar ( XMB ) when you don't feel like using your controller and also for choosing music tracks , pictures etc . However , there are some glaring issues with the remote which I would like Sony to maybe address in the future .
Issue #1 : The first issue I noticed and many have complained about is the Stop button . Now if you have a PS3 with the latest firmware update then this may not be that big of a deal . When you hit stop you will be sent back to the XMB but upon selecting to play your movie again it will resume where it left off . This was a feature later added to the PS3 so owners of older PS3s that did not get that firmware update will have to resume their DVD / Blu-Ray movie from teh beginning .
The Stop Button is right smack in between the Play and Pause button like the cream filling in an Oreo cookie . While the Play button does have a raise in it so you can feel it in the dark the Stop and Pause button do not . When I first got this remote I figured that the Pause button would be underneath the Play button but it isn't . I can't count the number of times I have hit Stop only to be brought back to the XMB when I meant to hit Pause . Now I don't have this issue since I have trained myself to remember that the Pause button is at the bottom but this should not be an issue in the first place .
The button placement was poorly designed on this remote and I wish Sony would make a revision .
Issue #2 : This is an issue which has annoyed me many times , and that is the sensitive buttons . When I am playing my Xbox and I put maybe my television remote to the side and if it lightly taps the PS3 Blu-ray Remote then BOOM my PS3 will turn on . The buttons are extremely sensitive ( just about as sensitive as the PS Button on the center of your PS3 controller . This can also be very annoying if someone by accident touches it ever so slightly during a movie and then you may accidentally hit something you didn't mean to . There should have been more resistance when hitting the buttons .
Issue #3 : This issue as much as it would be a luxury . It would have been nice to see the PS3 Blu-ray remote have back-lit buttons so you could see them in the dark . Especially , when the remote already has some silly button set-ups this would be very helpful .
Aside from these three things this is an excellent remote . The battery life is very good and in the two years I have had this remote I only recall changing the batteries in it twice . I would recommend this remote to anybody who owns a PS3 because it does make your movie watching experience much more enjoyable then using the standard DualShock 3 / Six-Axis Controller .

The remote is fine , works very well but it has 2 issues that are more annoying then anything else . the buttons are very sensitive to being pressed and don't have much resistance to being pressed so even tossing a light blanket on top of it caused a button press , also the PS3 will turn on on any button press , it doesn't matter which button any will turn it on , that might be fixable with a firmware mod but as they haven't done it since the release of the remote years ago they probably won't . #3 the battery cover doesn't fall off as you claimed if operated with some common sense ( i.e . : don't rub it against your pants , sofa etc ) - it's pretty secure actually .
#4 this remote is bluetooth people and not IR capable - why don't you do your research and find out what bluetooth and IR mean , the fact that they are totally different technologies , thus this will never be compatible with an IR receiver , no bluetooth device will actually be .
#5 The remote doesn't turn on your ps3 by accident if common sense is also involved . People claimed that it turned on their PS3s when they sat on it on the couch . Well people , the same happens with your IR remote if you sit on it . Most remotes turn on the TV if a channel button or the on / off button is pressed . Also , be more careful / respectful with your stuff and handle it with care . . . this was not made to sit on it or hit it against the wall ! ! !
The lack of illuminated buttons does not surprise me , not all remotes do . In fact few dedicated remotes do - this is not an universal remote ! ! !
Also , button and text size are not too small either , if you don't see them get some glasses .
The only gripe I have is that it doesn't give any feedback when it's in use ( no LED nothing ) but I can live with that . This remote complements the ps3 as a blu-ray player very well .

This product did not work ok when I received it - the batteries were old and dead . If I did not read someone's review on the Playstation Network that the same thing had happened to them , I would have been afraid and upset that the remote I just bought did not work at all . I put in some fresh rechargable batteries I had at home and the remote worked fine . Just do not be suprised if the remote fails to work with your Playstation 3 , don't panic until you put in some fresh batteries and then register it under accessory settings . Good luck !

Just thought I would post a quick review for this remote . Although I knew that this remote was blue-ray technology I didn't think about it due to years of normal remotes , but this remote is cool because you don't have to point it at your system . Yes I know that is a DUH comment for plenty of people , but I think for the person who doesn't know much about how technology works that it is a pretty cool thing to know . It is bigger than the old ps2 remote , I wish it was a lot smaller . However I imagine this does a lot more . I don't use this remote for anything other than watching movies on my system but it's great for that . Responds well , looks nice , had no problems setting it up with my system . The remote works great . . . . but unless you always want to use the ' special features ' on a DVD / Blu-ray disc you will NOT need this remote . 152 4 I got a PS3 exclusively to use as a Blu-ray player , so of course I wanted a proper remote for it . Given that you're paying twenty bucks for a remote for a device that claims to be the be-all media center , this remote is pretty disappointing , though .
As far as doing its basic job as a blu-ray remote goes , it has the bases covered - - all the standard DVD-style remote buttons , and it controls blu-ray movies , which is what it's for .
It also features a directional pad and buttons corresponding to the four controller buttons ( plus start , select , and the shoulder buttons ) , so you can use it in all the other menus as well . Heck , if you had a game that didn't require the analog stick , you could probably even play a game with it , albeit awkwardly .
That said , if you look past the directional circle and three large play / stop / pause buttons , it's just a big mess of tiny buttons with difficult-to-read labels . Worse is the absolutely boneheaded decision to put the stop button BETWEEN Play and Pause . Why is this such a big problem ? Because it's REALLY easy to accidentally hit stop instead of pause or play , and on at least some blu-ray movies the movie refuses to take up where you left off if you hit stop ( I assume some stupid DRM restriction ) . So , one slip and you're stuck watching through all the FBI warnings and trying to get back to where you were .
Given the penalty for failure ( one which I would think Sony was aware of given that they designed the format itself ) , I'd rather the stop button was way the heck away from where I'm liable to bump it when trying to pause or reverse a bit . Even VHS wasn't that annoying .
I just don't get why Sony has apparently fired everybody who knew how to design a decent human interface ; my Sony lasersdisc player from back in the pre-DVD era had the best remote control I've ever seen , so it's not like they've always been incompetent . Heck , even my decade-old Sony VCR has a better remote than this thing .
Then there's the wireless-ness issue . It's not the remote's fault , exactly , but since the PS3 doesn't have an IR receiver , the remote uses bluetooth . On the bright side , it's got great range - - I could control the thing from 20 feet away through two walls . On the negative , it has great range , and since ANY button will turn on the PS3 ( not just the PS button in the center ) , it's incredibly easy to fire the thing up unintentionally . We store our remotes business-end down in a caddy so if a button gets bumped nothing happens , but with this one that doesn't help . Annoyance , but again , this is a $20 remote for a $500 media center , so I'd expect better .
In all , it gets the job done , and it's certainly better than using the controller , but it's a pretty poor remote when you consider Sony's emphasis on style and the pricetag of the system the thing's attached to .

This remote , as others have said , does the job you would intend it to . It effortlessly works for your all the functions of the Playstation 3 . There are however two negatives that really bugged me . First , no backlit buttons mean you will probably be fumbling for a function when watching in the dark . Second , this thing is horrendous when using the internet browser on the PS3 . Trying to use the circular arrow function of the remote to get the cursor where you want it to go had me on the verge of chucking it out of the window . In the middle of the remote there is the Playstation Logo button , like on the controllers , that will turn the PS3 on with no problems . This remote does the trick however the buttons are placed in bad areas . You often hit stop instead of pause or play and it doesn't restart the movie right where you left off . . . you have to go through the menu .
With today's technology and Sony being a lead contender I am overall unhappy with this remote , it should have 1 of 2 things
1 ) . glow in the dark buttons for the main buttons
or
2 ) . a glow in the dark button that you push and it lights up the entire remote so you can see the buttons .

Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory )
This is a good tool if you want to use your PS3 for watching DVDs / BluRays . It's much easier to use , especially for non-gamers ( like my parents ) than a PS3 controller . It pairs pretty easily and uses Bluetooth technology , just like normal PS3 controllers .
It annoys me that one is limited to using a bluetooth remote , rather than a universal remote on the PS3 . I have a Sony TV - - the remote that came with the TV has DVD / Bluray controlling buttons , but the PS3 has no receiver for standard remotes . That said , this isn't a very expensive tool , and probably makes navigating the system easier than any other remote .

Anywas this remote has every single button you could need for in a movie . I like using the slow step buttons to catch something in movies I never found before . Anyways everyone that watches a lot of movies in their ps3 definitely has to get one of these remotes .

Basically , you can perform the same functions with the controller . It is too complex for those people who cannot use the controller . So I do not really get the point of it . I have been using this remote for some time now it it does a good job . Sadly it is not backlit , nor can it send volume / mute commands to your TV via HDMI so you'll still need a second remote .

334 4 This remote is a great alternative to using the PS3 controller , since you either have to leave the controller on all the time while watching a movie ( draining the battery ) or have it set up to shut off after a set period of time ( causing you to have to wait 2 - 3 seconds for the controller to turn on before pushing a button ) .
Cons : ( although minor )
~ I will agree with the other reviewers that it would be nice if the remote were backlit or glowed in the dark , but that is definitely not a deal breaker . ( Half star loss )
~ The remote itself is rather large and features several buttons that I never use . ( Half star loss )
As for the Stop button's location between the Play and Pause button , I would have to say that it is not a big deal , in that if you are using it in the dark , and need to pause the movie , you know that the Pause button is the bottom-most large button on the remote . My feeling is that it allows you to quickly pause a movie without having to even look at the remote .
Overall , I would definitely buy this remote if you watch a lot of movies on your PS3 .

Too many times I found myself fumbling around with trying to fast forward , rewind or even see what part of a movie I was in with the PS3 controller . This is a true remote control with buttons that just do the job . I find myself using it more than the controller for navigating through the main menus and just using the controller for gaming . It also is rather annoying that because it's bluetooth it's really easy to pause or stop the video you are watching by just bumping the remote , even if it's not pointed even sort of at the screen . Overall it's not a fantastic remote , but I doubt you are going to do much better .

Pairing was very simple with the latest PS3 firmware ( PS3 Slim ) . There was an option on the PS3 to search for and pair with a PS3 remote . I'm not sure about older PS3s or firmwares , but you shouldn't have a problem .
Sometimes there is a delay from pushing a button to when the action is recognized by the PS3 . This happens when use of the remote control has been idle for a certain period of time . The delay is long enough to make you think the button wasn't registered by the PS3 so double pressing occurs and can be inconvenient . For instance , if you press Next Chapter and think it wasn't registered , you end up pressing Next Chapter again , skipping ahead 2 chapters instead of 1 . I don't know if this is a problem with the remote or the PS3 ( most likely it is a power saving feature of the remote and the Bluetooth connection becomes ' suspended ' until there is activity ) , but it is more of an annoyance than a problem .
Remote has all the features for a DVD / BD and from a PS3 controller . It's standard , plain , and easy to use . The only thing Sony should have done , since it costs between $18 - $20 , is to include an IR blaster so that it can function as a Universal remote . Sony didn't , so you can only control your PS3 .

This is a great product . It is definitely needed if you want to watch DVD / Blu Ray on your PS3 . Of course you can do all that with your controller , but it is much easier if you have the controller . It is well made and worth every penny . No regrets .

Got the remote , set it up on the PS3 and got it working in seconds . Love this remote , it's just so much better watching movies on the PS3 . This is the must have .
I mean it's a remote , it works how it should . Though the PS3 slim doesn't have an eye , so you can use something like the Logitech harmony or something . But there is an USB adapter for the PS3 slim that will make use of the Logitech harmony .
This remote does not have an eye , since it is a bluetooth remote , which is actually better since you don't have to point at the ps3 .
I couldn't watch movies with out this remote . It does the job and does it well .

The main reason I use the PS3 is to watch downloaded movies and TV shows and blurays ( gaming comes second ) . . . if your like me then you must get this remote . If you only use PS3 to play games . . . you don't really need this remote than . Here is a quick pro / con list followed by more of my review :
Pro : Great size , shape and finish .
Easy to connect to PS3 ( read instructions )
Fully connect to ps3 without added devices at a cheap price
Ideal for the movie watcher
Cons : No dedicated power button
Battery life is relatively short
Not internet user friendly ( no joystick to move arrow )
Could use a extra button to change screen mode
This is my second remote I've bought , one for me and one for a friend . . . it's a must have if you use the ps3 to play movies that were downloaded or blurays . Eliminates the need to turn on and off the remote controller ( to save battery , I know an update has auto turn off to helped this problem ) everytime you want to pause skip ahead or what not . It's not the best to search through the internet on the ps3 or to opperate zooming in on pictures . . . simpley because it doesn't have a joystick to move freely .
Major Flaw though ! ! ! If you're like me and have the ps3 in your room and like to leave remotes on your bed in the middle of the night you maybe woken up by the sound of the PS3 turning on . This is because there is no dedicated power button . Instead any button if pushed will turn on the system . I have memerized how to turn the system off without turning on the tv which you learn pretty fast to help fix this problem .
I've seen people complain about no backlighting on the remote and small lables . . . this really doesn't matter . I found that the layout was pretty easy to learn and the labling was just fine . In fact , a lot of the buttons perform the same opperation . . . like enter , X , and play button all do the same thing . I also saw someone say there is no button to turn it off . . . just hold down the ps button like you do with the game controller .
Added bonus is that you can use it as an extra controller in games ( labled the 7th controller ) , however there is no joystick to move so don't expect too much use .
One button that could of been added that is not there . . . is one to switch viewing modes for movie play back . To switch from full screen , zoom , and normal ( ect . ) , the way to do this is to hit triangle move to the left a couple of icons and hit the tv screen icon . So a single button would have been a nice option .
I did find the batteries ran out faster then I expected ( a lot faster than normal remotes ) but at least you can check batter life by simply pressing the ps button once . It's always connected to the PS3 via bluetooth so what do you expect . I think my batteries last 2 - 3 months with daily use . . . maybe nickle-cadium ( sp ? ) batteries will last longer , I just use what is in the closet .
I gave this a 5 star rating . . . because how much easier it has made my life despite its short comings .
On a side note , do you ever find it funny they put an eject button on remotes . . . you still have to get up and remove / insert a disk anyways . Oh well .

374 4 I have owned the remote for over 3 years . I have changed the battery 2 times , so that is awesome . I watch an average of 2 movies a week . I own a harmony one remote , that I think is the best freaking remote ever made . The harmony doesn't have blue-tooth , unless you buy an adapter at around $50 . I would have gotten that add if it weren't for the price and if I really could find fault with this PS3 remote . It works great . The only negative is that it doesn't light up in the dark or have glow in the dark buttons . After a while you will learn to operate the remote without looking in the dark by feel . But with blu-ray movies there are ton of features where you have seconds to react . That is when glow in the dark buttons would be nice . I sometimes hit the stop button when I try to use the 1.5x feature during slow parts of a movie . But it happens less often as I get used to the remote . Sony once put an update where you could use the arrow button to fast forward or pause , but took that feature away after an update . I still don't know why they removed that feature . It was awesome .
I recommend this remote for cost and efficiency . It is a most if you use your PS3 as a movie player . And who doesn't , it is the best blu-ray player on the market . I often use this remote instead of the game remote for games and web surfing . The remotes keys are very efficient .

I purchased this remote so that my wife and I did not have to use up the charge on our controllers when we were watching Blu-ray or dvds . It works great . Once we got used to the buttons and menus , it makes watching movies much easier ! !
