Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote

  • 083 4  I can't imagine not having a remote control to use the PS3 to watch movies . This one works good , but there's a lot of buttons on there . And the behavior of the assigned buttons is a bit odd sometimes . Still , much better than trying to explain or guess which button on the game controller makes it fast forward . The most annoying thing about the remote is that there's no Power Off button .
    • 156 4  This is an excellent product . Contrary to an earlier review , there is a Power On / Off button ; simply hold the PS button , located directly below the Enter button .
    • 181 4  If you use your PS3 to watch movies , then this remote is a must have . While the game controller will work for watching movies , it is clumsy and you will sometimes forget which button does which function .

  • 106 4  I bought this as a backup for the standard remote , in case I lose the USB charging cable again . This one works on standard batteries amd is layed out like a standard DVD remote control . The original controller is very easy to accidentally skip chapters , etc . when you lay it down , due to button placement . This one eliminates that problem , because all the controls are on the top surface , just like the remote for my old Sony DVD player and camcorders .
    • 102 4  Spending the extra $100 for the PS3 versus just a blue ray player gets justified once I ordered my beter half this remote so she too could run it !
    • 276 4  I do not know why people are complaining about the small things , I think this is a great remote control .
    • 296 4  But I was wrong . If you bought your PS3 primarily to watch blu ray films , as I did , then this is a must have , transfering all the functions from the PS3 controllers into an easily recognizable and familiar format .
    • 314 4  I like having this remote for watching movies but I had a terrible time setting the remote up . I tried the sony support number but they were no help and tried to say that my remote needed to be sent back to amazon . I eventually got the controller to work by pairing it while the dual shock 3 controller was connected via USB .
    • 344 4  Great item but I not sure if I needed it since I have two controllers .

  • 120 4  Just thought I would post a quick review for this remote . Although I knew that this remote was blue-ray technology I didn't think about it due to years of normal remotes , but this remote is cool because you don't have to point it at your system . Yes I know that is a DUH comment for plenty of people , but I think for the person who doesn't know much about how technology works that it is a pretty cool thing to know . It is bigger than the old ps2 remote , I wish it was a lot smaller . However I imagine this does a lot more . I don't use this remote for anything other than watching movies on my system but it's great for that . Responds well , looks nice , had no problems setting it up with my system . A good buy , I will however mention look for it online because I found mine much cheaper than in stores .
    • 111 4  I originally bought the PS3 specifically for watching Blu-ray movies . Trying to navigate through a movie with the PS3 controller is a nightmare . I then purchased a cheap remote that turned out to be worse than the controller , and wound up being thrown into the trash . Finally I got the Sony remote . It does a real good job . It makes the PS3 feel like a real Blu-ray player , not a game console that plays Blu-ray . It makes navigating through the menus , etc . a breeze . For $20 shipped , every PS3 owner should have this .
    • 114 4  Sony's got a winner with this one . If you use your PS3 as a DVD / BluRay player , you'll appreciate the easy to navigate remote that makes navigating DVD menu screens much easier . It would be better with backlit buttons , but hey , it's only 20 bucks and it does everything exactly as advertised with a solid build quality to boot . This should really have been included in the box with the PS3 . Excellent .
    • 141 4  This remote is good for those who just put their hands on a new PS3 but if you're a good PS3 gamer and familiar with its dual shock controller , I don't recommend this to you because you can use the controller as a remote control . I am not using it at all nowadays and I wish I did not waste $20 on it .

  • 145 4  The remote works great . . . . but unless you always want to use the ' special features ' on a DVD / Blu-ray disc you will NOT need this remote . I bought it ' just because ' having a remote for the PS3 sounded like a good idea , since all my other audio / video components have remotes as well . Now that I have this , I realize how much of a waste of money this was . Unless you are constantly stoppping or viewing alternate camera angles , you wont need this remote , just use the regular ps3 controller to start and stop the movies . . .
    • 213 4  This makes the DVD so much easier to use . . . and since it works like the controllers it does not need line-of-sight to the console .
    • 367 4  This is a great product . It is definitely needed if you want to watch DVD / Blu Ray on your PS3 . Of course you can do all that with your controller , but it is much easier if you have the controller . It is well made and worth every penny . No regrets .

  • 161 4  This remote , as others have said , does the job you would intend it to . It effortlessly works for your all the functions of the Playstation 3 . There are however two negatives that really bugged me . First , no backlit buttons mean you will probably be fumbling for a function when watching in the dark . Second , this thing is horrendous when using the internet browser on the PS3 . Trying to use the circular arrow function of the remote to get the cursor where you want it to go had me on the verge of chucking it out of the window . It's almost as if it purposely misses where you want it to go just to get your blood pressure rising and muttering obscenities at this inanimate object . Other than that , this thing is a must own if you plan to use your PS3 for anything than just strictly video games .
    • 187 4  Just made it easier to navigate through Netflix menus . Other than that it's just a remote control . But it serves its function well .
    • 235 4  I had been putting off buying this remote control for a long time now , simply because I was content with the wireless dualshock game controller to do what I needed and didn't want to shell out the extra bucks for the remote . In fact , I bought this remote as a filler item with another item that I wanted to purchase , to qualify for Amazons free shipping . But it turned out to be a completely different experience once I used the remote . This remote is absolutely fabulous , especially if you watch a lot of movies , DVDs , BluRays , etc . with a lot of controls available as a one-click button on the remote , as opposed to the wireless game controller . Moreover the wireless controller requires recharging often if you play games on the PS3 , which is not at all a problem on the remote control . It simply requires 2 AA batteries that last for a long long time . And now the cons . . . The first caveat is this remote is bluetooth controlled , so if you are trying to club this remote functionality in a universal remote , it could possibly not work , especially since most of the universal remotes in the market are infra red based . So if you are like me , thats another RC to search for on the couch , among the other RCs you already have . Additionally , if you are watching TV and press ANY button on this remote accidentally , the system switches the PS3 on , and in my case , switches to the PS3 device on the screen . So I keep this RC far far away , when not in use . Other than this , no functionality issues with the remote , and Sony has not moved the price on this remote any lower for the past one + year . So if you are like me and are thinking of buying this remote for your PS3 movies , think no more . Go for it ! Its the best buy on Amazon . Pros : Simple , slim , easy , AA batteries Cons : Presence of Illuminated-when-pressed buttons on the RC would have helped in a dark ambience , accidental button press switches on the PS3 device , bluetooth capability of the remote not supported by most universal remotes in the market

  • 168 4  This is a remote that is best used for dvd & blu-ray movies on your PS3 . Don't continue to use your controller when you can have a real remote like this . It has all the functions of a regular dvd player remote . You can turn off the PS3 system by holding the P button just like your controller . No longer do you need to guess which buttons stop , play , pause . . . they are all labeled the way you like them with this product .
    • 352 4  This remote was a great purchase for the price and definitely makes it more convenient when watching movies . It will also turn the system on , which is a nice feature . The sleek design makes it easy to use and it works from any angle . The only thing it's missing is back lit control buttons .
    • 380 4  It works well with my PS3 . Do follow the instructions for set up , though - - you can't just turn on and use immediately .
    • 382 4  It was a little hard to set up , but once it was set up , it has been working great and is much better than using the controller as the remote !

  • 201 4  Not much to say , it works great to replace using a PS3 controller to navigate the menus . Wish it was a multifunction remote to control my other devices .

    • 232 4  Excellent remote control - - no issues after one year of use . Good durability - - my remote has been dropped on hard wood floors dozens of times and still works perfect and has no signs of damage at all . The battery life is about 6 months with fairly regular use .
      • 073 4  it's nice to use this instead of a controller . has all of the features that a blu-ray remote would have . easy to use

    • 240 4  I love this remote but it has one problem with it . If you even push hardly any of the buttons by setting it down and any of the buttons depress it turns on the dang PS3 when you do not want it to . Overall it is a good remote I just wished it would of been better designed . There are a ton of buttons on this thing and it takes a while to try and learn them all . This is not necessarily a bad thing . More options the better , just be prepared to sit down and learn it and keep it away from things hitting it like stacking remotes or setting it upside down .
      • 070 4  I consider this a must have accessory for the PS3 if you are going to watch DVDs . The remote works great and the layout is even better than the remote that came with my other DVD player . You can also use this remote to control the navigation of the PS3 online so if you are not a gamer , you can put away the wireless gaming controller that came with the PS3 . If you are a gamer , this DVD remote works perfectly fine with the gaming controllers too .
      • 092 4  This was a Christmas gift for my mom . She recently got a ps3 just because it can play bluerays . I saw here try and use the regular remote and it was horrible . She had so many problems using the game control she quit watching movies . I got her this and she is now back in her comfort zone . All the buttons are labeled like a normal remote so you don't have to worry about what box , triangle , circle , X , left trigger , or right trigger do anymore .
      • 108 4  This is not a game but a remote . I probably could do without this remote and use a controller to watch a movie but for twenty dollars , it makes life a whole lot easier . This remote enables a lot of the features you normally could never find with the remote and makes watching a movie more enjoyable . I highly recommend this remote . Thanks .
      • 195 4  It rarely gets used but when it does , it is a nice device to have . You could use youe PS3 controller as it it wireless . But I find having a remote it somehting most of are accustomed to when watching tv , or movies .
      • 243 4  We got this remote after our regular DVD player broke . Instead of buying a new one , we decided to use the PS3 for playing all our DVDs . However , both my husband and I had trouble using the PS3 controller for control the movies . This remote serves that purpose beautifully . We only use it for this reason so I can't really comment on the other features it has . It was easy to set up . . . even the non technical person in our house could set it up . If you are looking for a remote to better control movies you play in your PS3 , look no further .

    • 246 4  Hey . . . nice to sit back and push buttons from the chair . It connected well and does what it should . Five stars includes Amazons price . It would cost you $5.00 or more anywhere else . Thank you Amazon and Sony !
      • 219 4  For the $20 ' ish dollars it cost's the remote is well worth the price . It's very easy to set up and use .
      • 285 4  It helps to use the system for people that do not play games on the PS3 because all the buttons are like a standard blue-ray / dvd player . Easy to link up ( 1 minute ) and batteries last a long time .

    • 249 4  For enjoying the built in Blu-Ray DVD player , the Sony remote control accessory lets you play those movies with great ease . It combines the regular buttons of our other DVD players with the funky look of the PS3 . Great Product .
      • 118 4  It's not only a Blueray remote . It will control movies that you stream over a network to your PS3 , which is great . I like it a lot and would recommend buying one if you have a PS3 .
      • 125 4  The Sony remote is a must have item if you plan to watch DVDs in the Blu Ray format . . . easy to install and easy to operate for your movie watching pleasure .
      • 129 4  For a couple bucks , this Bluetooth wireless remote is worth every penny .

    • 264 4  Great for the wife or kids who dont / wont use the PS3 controller . Does everything you would expect a dvd remote to do . it is great for web browsing as well .
      • 324 4  So easy to use even the kids can use it with no problems , easy to install

    • 294 4  Bought this for use with our PS3 . Directions were simple to follow and I had it set up to work with the PS3 in about 10 minutes . The product has worked flawlessly for 7 weeks and the transaction was uneventful . Product is good and seller was good .
      • 184 4  This is a really nice remote , works well and I like the set up of the buttons , and how it works . Good Product .
      • 288 4  Great product plus shipping was very fast . I believe I received it like 4 days after I placed the order . Keep up the good work . 5 stars for me .

    • 302 4  I wanted a remove control for control of the blueray player and the remote does what it supposed to . Easy to use in my opinion . Can control getting onto the internet also . Bought it on sale with free shipping on Amazon . Cheaper than any store . Great deal .

      • 327 4  I recently purchased this blueray remote for my son's PS3 and he really Loves it , and I also got it at a much better price than the local electronics store ( Bestbuy ) ! ! ! ! ! Thanks
        • 309 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Este control remoto es lo que necesitaba para disfrutar las peliculas BD en mi PS3 Slim ya que el dualshock es muy limitado . Lo recomiendo 100%

      • 349 4  I bought this for my dad because he is always getting confused when using the normal game control to watch movies . He absolutely loves this control . Setup instructions were super clear and easy to follow , and the remote has worked perfectly so far . It has all the normally available game controller buttons put onto an easier , more straightforward remote control wand . The button layout is pretty standard . The price is reasonable too .

        • 377 4  I purchased this remote so that my wife and I did not have to use up the charge on our controllers when we were watching Blu-ray or dvds . It works great . Once we got used to the buttons and menus , it makes watching movies much easier ! !
          • 279 4  this remote works great , and really extends the battery life of my other controllers . The batteries last months and I have never had a problem .

        • Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) After 4 years with Netflix , I read hundreds of reviews from every source I could find . Being 59 years old , had NO use for a gaming toy or machine but bought this based on all the reviews from every single source I saw . I have to say , I struggled some getting the wireless connection figured out but I am no genius . Performance ? Amazing . This review will never get into the BEST REVIEW category as I am just not a good enough typist to tell you all the reasons we love it . We ONLY use it for rented DVDs also . But , if you are like us & want to see movies , and have them take LESS than 30 seconds to load ? BUY this . It just works .

          • 208 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) VERY necessary piece of equipment for hours of Blu-Ray viewing fun ! Why fiddle with the standard controller when you can do your thing correctly with this piece ! ? Same appeal as the keyboard , and emphatically NECESSARY .

        • Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) I bought Blu Wave Remote at Fry's Electronics in California and the Sony BD Remote Control from Amazon and here is the comparison : BLU WAVE REMOTE ( from Nyko ) : Pluses - 1 ) small , cute , stylist Minuses - 1 ) Since it uses an USB port for the infrared dong , it takes away one of your USB's . For those of you with the 2nd generation of PS3 , where you only have two USB port , you have to think about this issue carefully when you start adding accessories to your PS3 ( e.g . , external USB harddrive , the Eye , USB remote keyboard and mouse , etc ) 2 ) Although it claims that you can control from 25 feet away , the catch is you have to point directly to the dong ; otherwise it does not work . In addition , if there is something in the front of it ( e.g . , pole , chair , coffee cup , etc ) it will not work . Comparing to a Bluetooth control ( working as an RF control ) , you can practically point to anywhere and it still works . Now getting back on the 25 feet control claim , I did not test this because I don't have this need . But be realistic here ; unless you are one of those millionaire with a living like a football stadium , you also don't have this need . Most of your setting would be about 6 - 10 feet from your TV / PS3 and a blue tooth control would do just fine . 3 ) This is the deal breaker so I am going to take it back to Fry's . It does not have the PS button , which allows you turn on your PS3 remotely ! ! ! ! ( The Sony BD Remote Control has the PS button ) You have to walk to your PS3 everytime you want to turn it on . Then you can use your Blu Wave Remote , so what is the purpose of remote control ? SONY BD REMOTE CONTROL : Pluses : 1 ) Design to work with PS3 with buttons which exercise all the important functions of Blu-ray DVD . 2 ) Easy to synch with your PS3 ( take me 1 minute ) 3 ) You can practically point anywhere and it still work . For those of you who complaint about the buttons are not being responsive . Duh ! That is what the PS3 button is for . The PS3 button wakes up your remote control if it is in power saver / sleep mode . Minuses : 1 ) Buttons are not as nice / stylist as Nykyo Blue Wave , but they are standard made like most of remote controls on market . So no big deal ! BTW , I don't work for Nykyo or Sony . I just want people out there to know what they are getting into , especially when you are reading mix reviews and don't know what to buy . I usually buy both and see what works for me . In this case , the decision is clear .

          • 165 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Let me start by saying that I bought the Playstation 3 when I was in the process of purchasing a Blu Ray player , I realized that it was one the best decisions I have ever taken . But there was a drawback , NO REMOTE CONTROL INCLUDED . Buying the the Sony PS3 Blu-ray remote was an excellent choice since it includes everything you need and then some . Using the sixaxis controller was limited and somewhat cumbersome , but the remote control allowed me what I needed without having to have a line of sight . Definitely a 5 - star .

        • Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) My review is going to be pretty different from the others , because i actually do not own a PlayStation 3 at all - - i bought this remote to use with my iMac and Remote Buddy ( [ . . . ] ) . So please bear that in mind . : ) Firstly , some general comments on the design and functionality of the remote : 1 . As others mentioned , it has a ridiculous amount of buttons - - 51 in total . I think if i was using this strictly as a remote control for watching videos , i would find this pretty obnoxious . However , as a remote for controlling your entire COMPUTER , it is quite useful . In fact , the high button count was one of the reasons i went with this remote ( the other reasons were Bluetooth support and low price ) . 2 . The remote is pretty lacking in bells and whistles . There are no lights to indicate whether a button has been pressed , whether the battery is dying , & c . No indicators of any kind . There is also no lighting of the keys , not even glow-in-the-dark ink , which would have been nice . However , i find that some of the other reviews have exaggerated the significance of this ; i haven't had any issues so far finding any of the buttons in the dark . All the important ones , like play / pause / stop and the direction pad , are quite easy to identify using only your fingers . 3 . It is pretty decent-sized , but i guess that's expected since it's got a lot of keys . It is not heavy , however , and it feels OK in your hand . Not perfectly ergonomic , but certainly ergonomic enough for a 20 $ remote . 4 . The remote uses two AA batteries ( which are included ) . I haven't had it long enough to see how long these last , but a few months seems to be the consensus on the PS3 , and i assume it's the same with a computer . ( Remote Buddy has the option to disconnect the device after a while to save power , but you don't have to use it if you don't want to . ) 5 . I agree with some of the other reviews that the order of the play / stop / pause buttons is irritating and non-intuitive . Luckily , you can map these to whatever you like with RB . : ) OK , that's the general stuff . The rest of my review is mainly applicable to the remote's use with Remote Buddy on a Macintosh computer , so if you want this for a PS3 or anything else you can probably ignore it : 1 . As i said , the remote has lots of keys ( i haven't even found uses for them all yet ) . And Remote Buddy does support all of them ! In fact , it supports not only the ' press ' state of each button , but also the ' hold ' state , so there are effectively 102 distinct buttons you can use . If button count is a factor in your decision , you won't find a better button : price ratio anywhere else . 2 . Pairing with RB is easy ; it appears to be the same process you use on the PS3 ( you hold the PS button + the Start button ) . It takes literally 10 seconds , if that . The device is then fully available for use with any RB function . 3 . As i also mentioned above , Remote Buddy has a power-saving feature for Bluetooth devices . This feature disconnects the remote control after it's been idle for a while ( you can set the time in minutes ) , and in theory should re-connect it once you press a button on the remote again . However , i have had trouble with this feature in practice ; once RB disconnects the remote , i can't get it to re-connect again . Others have mentioned the same problem in the RB support forum , and the developer is looking into it , so hopefully this will be sorted out soon . 4 . Probably goes without saying , but since the remote is Bluetooth you do of course have a lot of freedom when it comes to distance and direction . I can control my computer with this from all the way on the other side of my flat . Currently this isn't especially useful to me , but it will be VERY helpful when i buy an AirPort Express - - this will allow me to stream music to other rooms and control that music with a single remote control . Overall this is one of the best options for use with Remote Buddy . It's cheap , featureful , and fully supported ( with the possible minor exception of the Bluetooth power-saving option ) .
          • 001 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) I did not think I needed yet another remote control because I thought the six-axis had everything it needed for movie playing on the PS3 and , yet , I bought one . There were 2 initial reasons : - my wife was missing a ' magic wand ' shaped remote for playing movies - Amazon had it at a great price in one of them lightning deals I ended up using it myself and , in fact , using it for more than just movie playing - see below . But , let's do a quick inventory of features : = It's blue-tooth enabled and , therefore , it's not taking any ports on your PS3 . This is probably important for anyone who has a 2 - USB ports console . = It's wand-shaped , allowing the non-gamers to control their movie-watching activities while holding a familiar-shaped device in their hand . = It maps ALL the six-axis buttons and performs everything a six-axis would do , except for the joystick features of R3 and L3 ( but you do have the push-down or ' click ' abilities for them ) . = 2 AA battery powered ( still with the original Sony batteries after 4 months of use ) = Includes additional buttons that the movie-only users would expect on a remote such as : + a number pad + eject + red , green , blue , yellow buttons + play , stop , pause + slow ( step ) , scan ( left / right ) , prev / next + display , top menu , pop up menu , return + subtitles , angle , audio What is interesting about this remote is that you can use it for much more than movie-playing . Given that it has all the six-axis buttons , guess what ? You can use it , and I do use it to : - surf the web - play music - shop at the PSN store - play certain games such as Sudoku - turn the PS3 on / off when your six-axis controllers are in the charger and I am playing GT5 that is using a racing wheel And , yes , you CAN turn the PS3 on and off with this remote . Turning it on is easy - you simply press the PlayStation button and the PS3 turns itself on . To turn it off , you either go as far to the left on the X-bar and all the way up and press Enter ( the turn-off PlayStation icon will be highlighted ) or you simply hold the PlayStation button pressed for a few seconds and then select ' yes ' and press the X button a couple of times . Overall : I am happy with this peripheral . Yes , it's one more remote control but it's a pretty good one , for the reasons I stated above . _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Notes - Aug 29 , 2009 , after 16 months of use I find that I'm using the remote more and more , not only for playing movies but for navigating the XMB and at the PSN Store , also when playing music or slideshows . Due to its very convenient arrows wheel with an ' enter ' button in the middle , navigating the PS3 and doing just about anything other than playing games is a lot easier than using the PS3 game controller . Unlike the controller which normally requires two hands to hold , this is basically a one-hand operation where you hold the remote in one hand and operate the wheel with your thumb . And because it's Bluetooth , not IR ( Infrared ) , you don't even need to point it at the PS3 . And , one word on battery life . After about 15 - 16 months of operation , this is probably the third set of batteries so I'd estimate battery life to be about 4 - 6 months . Not too bad .

If you want to start your movie again , you hit Play . But between the Pause and Play buttons is Stop . Here Be Dragons . Stop means it . Stop doesn't just stop the video from playing , it quits out of the Blu-Ray player and returns you all the way to the root PS3 menu . To start watching your disk again you need to select the Blu-Ray disk again , wait for it to boot up , wade through whatever previews and coming attractions are on the disk , re-enable the correct subtitles and menu settings , wait for the various FBI and MPAA warnings , locate the place where it stopped playing , and then resume watching . Hitting Stop whether you wanted to or not means you're going to spend at least the next five minutes not watching your movie . The Stop button is so big and so centrally located that I can't count the number of times I've hit it in error , either by poking at Pause or Play in my darkened living room or by sitting on the controller . It's gone from being an occasionally frustrating surprise , to being an infuriatingly common blunder , all the way around to being some sort of perverse comic relief . What happened ? Why did the movie just stop ? Did you hit the STOP button by accident again ? You did ? THE REMOTE GOT US AGAIN . WE HATE YOU , REMOTE . There are three ways that Sony could solve this problem . - They could re-label the button Ruin My Evening , and replace the pushbutton with one of those covered safety switches that are used in military cockpits to arm weapons . A button with consequences this significant needs to be clearly marked with a protective cover that you have to move aside , so that there's no way you'll end up pushing it by accident without understanding what it's going to actually do . - They could just remove the Stop button entirely . Nobody would miss it . There's already a Pause button if you need to take a break . There's a Top Menu button to return you to the top menu . There's a PS3 button to pop up the media bar ( with an option to quit the player ) , and an Eject button that also quits the player while ejecting the disk . There is nothing that the Stop button should do that another button isn't already doing . - They could make the Stop button just return the user to the top level Blu Ray menu , and not quit out of the entire player . They could also make Play the opposite of Stop , where Play returns you to playing what Stop stopped you from playing . Apart from the Stop button this would be a completely fine remote with a four or five star review . It's well built , it runs for weeks or months without batteries , and because it's Bluetooth ( not IR ) it doesn't need to be pointed at the player with line-of-sight to work . It's like a well-built Mercedes , with an extra pedal between the gas and brake that makes all four wheels fall off . WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT . Update : It's actually pretty easy to remove the stop button yourself . Undo the screw on the underside at the bottom of the remote and carefully pry the upper and lower halves apart . Under the rubber buttons there's a layer of conducting pads , a plastic spacer layer , and the circuit board . You can either use a hobby knife to cut out the conducting pad that triggers the stop , or you can put tape over the circuit board contact to render the stop button mercifully unusable .

          • 007 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Most PS3 owners enjoy not only the gaming abilities of their system , but also the built in Blu-Ray DVD player . The Sony remote control accessory lets you play those movies with great ease . The remote combines the regular buttons of our other DVD players with the funky look of the PS3 . You have a red , green , blue and yellow button - labelled with their color names ! You also get a circle , X , square and triangle to do a few things like brinigng up the options and back choices . The main buttons - play , stop , forward , back - are laid out reasonably nicely at the bottom of the remote with large buttons . There are small buttons up on top for the number keys , and a very tiny eject button . Missing completely is a power button ! ! You have to hit the PS button in the center and go through the regular PS3 menus to get the power to turn off . In fact , while I was writing this review , I accidentally hit a button on the remote and the PS3 turned on . We were watching regular TV , so now I have to wait until our show is over , switch over to the PS3 and use the buttons to turn the system back off again . That doesn't make much sense at all to me . Also , on our Oppo DVD remote , the buttons glow which makes it REALLY nice to use in the dark or dim light that most people watch movies in . This unit is completely black with black buttons . This makes it pretty much useless in low light conditions until you memorize all of the button locations . You would think by now that remote control makers would have their buttons backlit or at least glow-in-the-dark to handle this . The unit takes two AA batteries which makes it a bit heavy , but certainly within the normal range of remotes . It's easy enough to sync up the remote with the PS3 . It's bluetooth powered , so you go into the PS3 menu and use the options there to indicate you have a new remote . Note that the base level PS3 will not handle this - you have to have a connection to the internet from your PS3 and run an update routine . If you don't have an internet connection for your PS3 , you have to create an update CD on your PC to do this update . Well recommended - but it really could be much better to be great .

          • 011 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) A must-have accessory for your PS3 Blu-ray DVD viewing pleasure ! I love that it works without having to point it at anything , thanks to being Bluetooth . . . you don't even have to be in the same room ! ( not that there is much application for the latter , but thought it worth mentioning ) . Anyway , it works perfectly and helps add to your PS3 experience . We have a nice universal remote also , but the Bluetooth factor makes this Playstation remote our family's favorite so far . I hope all remotes go that way eventually . . . much better than IR !

          • 019 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) First off , when people complain there is no power button , they are just too lazy to push the down arrow and then the middle enter button . Whoopdee doo . It takes all of 1 second to power off the PS3 with the PS button so if you can't do that then you are extremly too lazy . Also , if you accidentally push a button and PS3 comes on but you don't want to switch your TV to see the PS3 menu , you can get up off your backside and hold your finger over the power button on the PS3 itself and it will turn off . The next complaint people have is with the Bluetooth part of it since they can't use normal IR universal remotes with the PS3 . Well , I personally prefer the Bluetooth since you do not have to have line-of-sight with anything to use it like you do with IR sensors . If you like watching movies from your bed and you're all curled up under your blanket you can just keep the remote under there with you and push buttons , the PS3 still picks up the signal . As for it not having the glow in the dark buttons . . . how many of you really press all those un-needed buttons when you're watching a movie ? At the most you need to know where Play Stop and Pause are . That's all you really need to memorize . You can easily feel for the big circle and I would hope you know up is up and down is down and so forth with enter in the middle . It's a great remote with every feature you really need . If you watch a lot of movies from your PS3 then it really is a must have . Much easier to navigate menus with than the PS3 controller as well as knowing the button you're pushing does what it's meant to do . Anyone know how to pause the movie from the PS3 controller ? I sure don't .
          • 020 4  First off , when people complain there is no power button , they are just too lazy to push the down arrow and then the middle enter button . • 026 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) This Blu-Ray DVD remote for the PS3 is just great . It's well laid out and the buttons are easy to hit . The best part is you no longer need to point the top of the remote in the direction of the PS3 since this is wireless . It makes Blu-Ray watching on the PS3 even more enjoyable . Some people complain about this not being a universal IR remote . Since I never cared for universal remotes , it's a total non-issue for me . $25 is not a bad price to pay for such a cool and useful accessory .

          • 033 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) This remote is a must have if you own a PS3 . I do have a couple gripes but they are minor annoyances . 1 . I wish the stop button was not between the pause and play buttons . I inadvertantly hit stop on many occasions . I am getting better at this but this could have been avoided by swapping the locations of the stop and pause buttons . 2 . No Backlight . This would have been a nice touch . 3 . No power button . There should have been a power button . The way to shut off the system now is to hold down the PS button the same as on a game controller , and navigate the menu to shut system off , then navigate to confirm that you want to do it . Not a big deal but sometimes I notice that I left the PS3 on and my TV is now on a different source so I have to either test my memory with a sequence of strokes on the remote or walk up to the PS3 and hold the power button to shut off . The positive things about this remote far outweigh the negative . There is no comparison between using this remote for blu-ray viewing and the gaming controller . Also although some people have marked this controller score down for using blue tooth instead of IR , it is the only option with the PS3 . There is not IR receiver on the PS3 . Why mark the remote down for that ? Also the only people complaining about that are the ones who have elaborate universal remotes that they can't program to run their PS3 . Nothing to do with the remote's rating . If anything that comment belongs on the PS3 rating .

          • 044 4  I bought Blu Wave Remote at Fry's Electronics in California and the Sony BD Remote Control from Amazon and here is the comparison : BLU WAVE REMOTE ( from Nyko ) : Pluses - 1 ) small , cute , stylist Minuses - 1 ) Since it uses an USB port for the infrared dong , it takes away one of your USB's .

          • 096 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Don't know why people rated this 1 - 2 stars , they must have not known how to operate it or lacked some common sense . #1 this remote does work to power off your ps3 . Since it includes the ps button alike the ps3 controller you can hold it and get the same options as on the controller , turn the remote or system off . #2 the remote doesn't drain your batteries more than any other bluetooth device , you can turn it off to save power as stated above - turning it on is as simple as pressing any button for 1 - 2 seconds . #3 the battery cover doesn't fall off as you claimed if operated with some common sense ( i.e . : don't rub it against your pants , sofa etc ) - it's pretty secure actually . #4 this remote is bluetooth people and not IR capable - why don't you do your research and find out what bluetooth and IR mean , the fact that they are totally different technologies , thus this will never be compatible with an IR receiver , no bluetooth device will actually be . #5 The remote doesn't turn on your ps3 by accident if common sense is also involved . People claimed that it turned on their PS3s when they sat on it on the couch . Well people , the same happens with your IR remote if you sit on it . Most remotes turn on the TV if a channel button or the on / off button is pressed . Also , be more careful / respectful with your stuff and handle it with care . . . this was not made to sit on it or hit it against the wall ! ! ! The lack of illuminated buttons does not surprise me , not all remotes do . In fact few dedicated remotes do - this is not an universal remote ! ! ! Also , button and text size are not too small either , if you don't see them get some glasses . The only gripe I have is that it doesn't give any feedback when it's in use ( no LED nothing ) but I can live with that . This remote complements the ps3 as a blu-ray player very well . Good job Sony ! Also , you can't beat the price for $20 .
          • 142 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) The remote is great and a must have for Blu-ray viewing . However , I wanted to control the PS3 using my Harmony One remote so had to get the Nyko IR remote and use the USB dongle . It is definitely not as slick to use as the blu-ray remote and I have to have the blu ray remote on the table to turn the PS3 on and off from a distance .

          • 151 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) I got a PS3 exclusively to use as a Blu-ray player , so of course I wanted a proper remote for it . Given that you're paying twenty bucks for a remote for a device that claims to be the be-all media center , this remote is pretty disappointing , though . As far as doing its basic job as a blu-ray remote goes , it has the bases covered - - all the standard DVD-style remote buttons , and it controls blu-ray movies , which is what it's for . It also features a directional pad and buttons corresponding to the four controller buttons ( plus start , select , and the shoulder buttons ) , so you can use it in all the other menus as well . Heck , if you had a game that didn't require the analog stick , you could probably even play a game with it , albeit awkwardly . That said , if you look past the directional circle and three large play / stop / pause buttons , it's just a big mess of tiny buttons with difficult-to-read labels . Worse is the absolutely boneheaded decision to put the stop button BETWEEN Play and Pause . Why is this such a big problem ? Because it's REALLY easy to accidentally hit stop instead of pause or play , and on at least some blu-ray movies the movie refuses to take up where you left off if you hit stop ( I assume some stupid DRM restriction ) . So , one slip and you're stuck watching through all the FBI warnings and trying to get back to where you were . Given the penalty for failure ( one which I would think Sony was aware of given that they designed the format itself ) , I'd rather the stop button was way the heck away from where I'm liable to bump it when trying to pause or reverse a bit . Even VHS wasn't that annoying . I just don't get why Sony has apparently fired everybody who knew how to design a decent human interface ; my Sony lasersdisc player from back in the pre-DVD era had the best remote control I've ever seen , so it's not like they've always been incompetent . Heck , even my decade-old Sony VCR has a better remote than this thing . Then there's the wireless-ness issue . It's not the remote's fault , exactly , but since the PS3 doesn't have an IR receiver , the remote uses bluetooth . On the bright side , it's got great range - - I could control the thing from 20 feet away through two walls . On the negative , it has great range , and since ANY button will turn on the PS3 ( not just the PS button in the center ) , it's incredibly easy to fire the thing up unintentionally . We store our remotes business-end down in a caddy so if a button gets bumped nothing happens , but with this one that doesn't help . Annoyance , but again , this is a $20 remote for a $500 media center , so I'd expect better . In all , it gets the job done , and it's certainly better than using the controller , but it's a pretty poor remote when you consider Sony's emphasis on style and the pricetag of the system the thing's attached to .
          • 233 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) I had been putting off buying this remote control for a long time now , simply because I was content with the wireless dualshock game controller to do what I needed and didn't want to shell out the extra bucks for the remote .

I like how you can easily set it up and use the PlayStation Button to turn on and off the PS3 . This is also a great remote for watching movies or listening to music , since mainly if your far away or pointed in a different direction it will still work unlike IR remotes
          • 253 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) My review is going to be pretty different from the others , because i actually do not own a PlayStation 3 at all - - i bought this remote to use with my iMac and Remote Buddy ( [ . . .

          • 255 4  My review is going to be pretty different from the others , because i actually do not own a PlayStation 3 at all - - i bought this remote to use with my iMac and Remote Buddy ( [ . . . • 345 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) . . . Yes , give your SIXAXIS controllers a break ! Yes your PS3 does play games , but it is also a Superb DVD / Blu-Ray Disc Player . I will say this , for the money I paid for my PS3 I never thought I would enjoy watching movies on this . I planned on getting a Blu-Ray Player , but the PS3 seemed to suffice . Now on to the nature at hand . . . This remote will give your controllers a break . How ? Well as every PS3 owner has found out , the 10 - minute rule you can set your controllers to shut-off to simply is too short , which leaves everyone to choose to shut-off their controllers manually whenever they are not using it . What I like about the Sony PS3 Bluetooth / Blu-Ray remote is the fact that it uses plain ole ' Double A ( AA ) batteries . This is great because everyone has about hundreds of these suckers lying around , and stock-up on them whenever Walgreens or Wal-Mart has a sale on batteries . I can turn-off , or better yet never turn on my SIXAXIS Controllers while conveniently using my PS3 Blu-Ray / Bluetooth Remote to do the basic functions I would do while on my PS3 home screen . Of course I use it to watch my Blu-Ray / DVD movies as well . I surf the web using this , and even use it to eject my discs out of the PS3 ( lazy I know , but hey when you have access to the eject button on a remote you use it ) . This will help save your controllers power for the use of gaming only , while using the Remote to do the other menial tasks . Good Stuff Sony BTW : I love the price . . . $20 bucks ? ! I guess Sony doesn't over charges like the other guys * coughs * Microsoft . Nice of Sony .

          • 359 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Remote pairs with PS3 via Bluetooth so it's nice not to have to point the remote at the PS3 to control it . Pairing was very simple with the latest PS3 firmware ( PS3 Slim ) . There was an option on the PS3 to search for and pair with a PS3 remote . I'm not sure about older PS3s or firmwares , but you shouldn't have a problem . Sometimes there is a delay from pushing a button to when the action is recognized by the PS3 . This happens when use of the remote control has been idle for a certain period of time . The delay is long enough to make you think the button wasn't registered by the PS3 so double pressing occurs and can be inconvenient . For instance , if you press Next Chapter and think it wasn't registered , you end up pressing Next Chapter again , skipping ahead 2 chapters instead of 1 . I don't know if this is a problem with the remote or the PS3 ( most likely it is a power saving feature of the remote and the Bluetooth connection becomes ' suspended ' until there is activity ) , but it is more of an annoyance than a problem . Remote has all the features for a DVD / BD and from a PS3 controller . It's standard , plain , and easy to use . The only thing Sony should have done , since it costs between $18 - $20 , is to include an IR blaster so that it can function as a Universal remote . Sony didn't , so you can only control your PS3 .

        • Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) The main reason I use the PS3 is to watch downloaded movies and TV shows and blurays ( gaming comes second ) . . . if your like me then you must get this remote . If you only use PS3 to play games . . . you don't really need this remote than . Here is a quick pro / con list followed by more of my review : Pro : Great size , shape and finish . Easy to connect to PS3 ( read instructions ) Fully connect to ps3 without added devices at a cheap price Ideal for the movie watcher Cons : No dedicated power button Battery life is relatively short Not internet user friendly ( no joystick to move arrow ) Could use a extra button to change screen mode This is my second remote I've bought , one for me and one for a friend . . . it's a must have if you use the ps3 to play movies that were downloaded or blurays . Eliminates the need to turn on and off the remote controller ( to save battery , I know an update has auto turn off to helped this problem ) everytime you want to pause skip ahead or what not . It's not the best to search through the internet on the ps3 or to opperate zooming in on pictures . . . simpley because it doesn't have a joystick to move freely . Major Flaw though ! ! ! If you're like me and have the ps3 in your room and like to leave remotes on your bed in the middle of the night you maybe woken up by the sound of the PS3 turning on . This is because there is no dedicated power button . Instead any button if pushed will turn on the system . I have memerized how to turn the system off without turning on the tv which you learn pretty fast to help fix this problem . I've seen people complain about no backlighting on the remote and small lables . . . this really doesn't matter . I found that the layout was pretty easy to learn and the labling was just fine . In fact , a lot of the buttons perform the same opperation . . . like enter , X , and play button all do the same thing . I also saw someone say there is no button to turn it off . . . just hold down the ps button like you do with the game controller . Added bonus is that you can use it as an extra controller in games ( labled the 7th controller ) , however there is no joystick to move so don't expect too much use . One button that could of been added that is not there . . . is one to switch viewing modes for movie play back . To switch from full screen , zoom , and normal ( ect . ) , the way to do this is to hit triangle move to the left a couple of icons and hit the tv screen icon . So a single button would have been a nice option . I did find the batteries ran out faster then I expected ( a lot faster than normal remotes ) but at least you can check batter life by simply pressing the ps button once . It's always connected to the PS3 via bluetooth so what do you expect . I think my batteries last 2 - 3 months with daily use . . . maybe nickle-cadium ( sp ? ) batteries will last longer , I just use what is in the closet . I gave this a 5 star rating . . . because how much easier it has made my life despite its short comings . On a side note , do you ever find it funny they put an eject button on remotes . . . you still have to get up and remove / insert a disk anyways . Oh well .
          • 009 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) I'd bought my PS3 about four or five months ago . I have a pretty nice HDTV and really wanted a Blu-Ray player to compliment it . It also didn't hurt that I had a bunch of PS2 games I still wanted to play . After everything was all set up and I started watching a couple of movies , it became apparent extremely quickly that I was going to need a remote for the Blu-Ray features . Using the controller was just overly complex to make it a real option . When I finally grabbed a remote , there were a few things I noticed immediately . Namely , the simple fact that it was a Bluetooth device meant that there was no chance that I was going to be able to use this with any of my other devices like my TV or my surround-sound receiver . Some people don't really care , but I hate having a thousand remotes lying around . I'd rather just have one and forget about it . Considering that the PS3 is the only device that the remote is able to control , I fail to see why it's covered with buttons . Outside the obvious ' Play / Pause / Stop ' buttons , I don't understand the decision to make this look so much more complex then it has to be . I would have tried to make the button layout as simple as possible . If it's not going to be able to be used for another device , it ( at least ) could be easy to use . I would say that two-thirds of the remote's face , you'll never use . Another reviewer mentioned it , but it bears repeating . If you touch any button on the device , it'll automatically cue-up your system . The PS3 is a wonderful piece of equiptment and I like it a lot , but man that sucker kicks out a TON of heat . Having said that , I do try to make a deliberate effort not to keep it on longer then I have to . When I'm sitting and watching TV , however , I tend to have both my remotes next to me . I can't even tell you the number of times I've accidentally leaned a little too much to one side and booted-up the system . This is complicated by the fact that there's not just a ' power ' button anywhere . I actually have to toss my receiver over to the PS3 device and manually shut the system off . It sounds like a small deal , but it's REALLY annoying after you do it a few times . I'm sure this was mentioned several times before , but I sincerely wish that the device was back-lit . I , like many others , usually watch TV in low-light . Between the ( unnecessarily ) complex button configuration and the simple fact that you can't read the thing , it makes simply watching a movie more of a chore then it needs to be . Not an outright bad piece and certainly a better option then the controller . It's also better then any of the third-party devices that I was able to find . All that having been said , however , I'd still say that Sony's remote wasn't very well thought out either . There's a lot of issues that the smallest amount of consideration should have been able to change .

          • 013 4  Not much can be said that already hasn't . It's an OK remote , on par with most typical remotes that are included with any stand-alone player . Sony really should have included this remote with the PS3 , it just makes sense , especially with their renewed push for the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player with the release of the 40GB model . I can only give the remote 3 stars overall though . The buttons should glow or have backlighting . A few of the buttons could be labeled better or located more prominently . But as far as Sony remotes go , this is pretty good . The bluetooth functionality is great . It eats batteries like crazy . Many people are incorrectly reporting that this remote does not have a power button . In a sense , that is somewhat true . Any button on the remote will turn on ( wake up ) the PS3 . This was a bad idea , they should have limited the wake-up functionality to the PS button in the center of the remote . This center PS button is also the off button . Simply hold the button down for about 3 seconds and the PS3 will ask if you want to turn it off , push the OK button , it shuts down . As more and more AV components migrate to bluetooth remote control , I'm sure we will see universal remotes ( like the Logitech Harmony ) come forth with bluetooth capability . This remote will tide me over for a year or so until that day comes . . . . Hopefully before the PS3 has become obsolete .

          • 021 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) I was a little miffed I even needed to get this because I already had a universal remote ( Harmony ) . This remote works as advertised but the layout is less than stellar and they tried to map every single PS3 control button to the remote , so it's laden with buttons . Also , you have to treat the remote just like one of the controllers and use the PS button to turn it on / off . Honestly , I think this is just an elongated PS3 controller . The other issue is that when you haven't used the remote for a bit and it goes to sleep , and then you issue a button press like Pause or Stop , you have to do it twice , because the first time the button press won't do anything except wake the remote up , then the second button press will actually work . The obnoxious part about the remote is that it has * no * indicators of any kind on it . So you can't tell if it's on , off , asleep , synced or out of batteries . You just use it and if you push a button 3 or more times and it doesn't do anything , it's safe to assume it's dead . A simple LED on the top would have done the trick , but then they wouldn't be able to keep the $29 margin of profit they make on this piece of hardware . Overall it's a poor remote , some throw in you would expect with a normal TV and overly unacceptable as a remote for a nice TV ( not even backlit ) . But it's the only way to control movies on the PS3 without using the controller , so if you need it , I guess you are going to buy it .

          • 024 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) If you have a PS3 and want to use it for media purposes , you need to buy this . There are no other remote controls on the market as of this date that allow you to control the PS3 fully like this one does . So , yes , this remote control is an essential accessory . Sadly , it is also a poorly designed one . Here are the issues I've run into : ( 1 ) First and foremost , if a remote control needs to be babysitted , it might cause more problems than it solves . This remote control needs to be babysitted in more ways than one . You can't just leave it lying around where people might accidentally touch it since pressing any button on it , even if the remote control is stowed away somewhere , will cause the PS3 to be turned on , and unless you're paying attention , you won't even notice . In addition to wasting huge amounts of electricity , this is unbelievably annoying because : ( 2 ) There is no off button on the remote control itself . You have to go thru an on-screen menu to turn the unit off remotely so , either you turn the TV on just to turn the PS3 off or you walk to wherever the PS3 is located and press the power button in front . This is doable and I don't mind walking a couple of feet ; but it becomes annoying when you have to do it repeatedly as a result of people accidentally pressing one of the remote control buttons . Of course , you can also memorize the sequence of buttons that need to be pressed in order to turn the PS3 off remotely ; but I've found that this doesn't work reliably every time for one reason or another . ( 3 ) As mentioned in other reviews , this control doesn't have backlit buttons . This is unforgivable for a media remote control this day and age . So , get this now ; but keep an eye on future remote control solutions for the PS3 . I keep dreaming that Logitech will one day make a bluetooth / infrared universal remote control that will work with the PS3 .

          • 029 4  I like this remote and the fact that it uses bluetooth , although I can appreciate the problem this causes for universal remote users . ( By the way , if these expensive units are so universal , why don't they include RF / Bluetooth functionality ? ) The way my PS3 is positioned , I'd have a hard time using an optical remote . The lack of backlit buttons might be a problem for some , but I find that I can't easily read backlit remotes anyway , and that lighting sure does eat batteries ! Prior to my purchase , I read the many reviews complaining of the lack of an on / off button ( which has more to do with PS3 design than the remote - notice the game controller is the same in this respect ) . What they fail to mention is that the PS3 CAN be turned on and off from this remote , or from the game controller , for that matter . Any button will turn it on , and it can be turned off through the PS3 menu system . Just press the PlayStation button for a couple of seconds , then the X button twice in response to the on-screen prompts . Once you know it works this way , it's not even necessary to be able to see the screen . It's very reliable , and takes only a few seconds . Overall , I feel this remote does a good job controlling PS3 movie playback and recommend it , especially considering the price .

This remote is actually the best DVD remote I have seen for any player . Buttons are layed out and organized nicely . It's not a universal , but if you use your PS3 for Blu Ray discs , or even DVD's ( if your like me and decide to use the PS3 as your primary player ) you can't go wrong .

          • 037 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) When plunking down $25 for a remote control , you expect something pretty nice . First the good : - Bluetooth connectivity allows you to not have to worry about sight lines with the console when watching movies . - Build quality is very good . And now the bad : - Bluetooth connectivity means you can't use the controller with an integrated remote , such as a Harmony . This means I have to pull out this remote anytime I watch a Blu-ray disc and swap between this and my Harmony for different controls . - Buttons are not illuminated or even glow-in-the-dark , which means you're going to have to either memorize the button layout , or not view movies in the dark . - Button layout is average and not very well thought out . The play , pause , and stop buttons are all the same exact size and shape and are laid out in the same position . I can't tell you how many times I've stopped playing a movie when I meant to pause it . By the same token , there is nothing to distinguish the fast-review buttons from the track-skip buttons . Once again , I've skipped tracks when trying to just fast-forward a bit , losing my place often . Frankly I'm surprised at the poor-design of this remote . I've owned many Sony remotes in the past , and have always found them to be well-thought out and a pleasure to use . I would've thought they would've provided something nicer for the PS3 . After writing this review , I'm starting to think 3 stars is generous .

          • 045 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) The PS3 comes with an incredibly short usb cable for charging your controller , as such , leaving that plugged in and using it to navigate is a no go . I use my blu-ray time as time to recharge my controller , ( because of the incredibly short cable ) , and use my remote to control my movies , and maybe checkout the psn store occasionally . Pros , its the best PS3 Remote currently available . It looks very nice and high end , you can tell it was well made , rather . . . well built . The problems come in the actual USE stage . Setting up the remote is rather simple that's not a problem . But it could be easier for the less technically sound . The worse thing about this remote is , if you touch 1 button , your ps3 comes on . This is stupid . If you got your remote on a table , and you accidentally set another remote on it while your watching tv , guess what , ps3 pops on . ( better make sure you setup your system to not auto start ) . This would be so much better if only the PS button effected the powering up of the PS3 , but thats not the case . Another option that would eliminate this is a simple hold button , that is also not the case . Another problem with the remote is its not illuminated . I know it doesn't say illuminated , but I like watching movies in the dark . After a few movies you know where the buttons are , thankfully we have some colored buttons , they are not too obvious to see at night , but you can make out ok this is red , so push the button above it to see the subtitles or below it to see how far into the movie you are ( speaking of which , why cant we see how much time is remaining ? ) Now to the positives ( which I think outshine most of the negatives , but not the fact that the stupid ps3 turns on whenever a button is pressed anywhere ( put this thing in its own box and keep it shut ! ) . It looks very good . The xbox 360 remote looks out of place with the rest of my decor , as my tv remote is black , receiver remote is black , tivo remote is black , ps3 controller is black , it only makes sense to have a black remote . The remote looks very high end , and works without problem . ( not counting the issues of it turning on when you touch it , not having a power off button and having to hold down the ps button then choosing cut system off ) . The biggest feature is bluetooth . I have a xbox 360 , and I got that remote , its a joke , you have to push buttons several times , and it becomes increasingly frustrating , because you have to have direct line of sight . This ps3 remote uses bluetooth technology , and I can point this thing at my head ( the opposite direction ) and it still operates my ps3 . This is a nice remote , I recommend buying it ( as it is better than using your ps3 controller ) , it is better than some of the cheaper off brand remotes , especially those which require plugging in some hideous looking device on your usb port . And it looks good . But understand you will have some compromises .

          • 048 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Fist of all , I'm a little annoyed that I needed to buy a new remote to have some features unavailable on the Sixaxis . I'm also annoyed that it was incompatible with my current Logitech Harmony 880 . But , on the other hand , I didn't want another dongle on the front of my PS3 . I do like the fact I don't have to point it in any particular direction , but still find myself pointing it at the TV . Hard habits are hard to break , I guess . The added functionality of the buttons are handy ( e.g the Stop button takes you completely out of the movie and back to the XMB without asking you if you're sure ) . My biggest gripe , perhaps I'm spoiled , is that the remote doesn't light up ; nor are the buttons shaped much different from the ones next to them . Navigating in the dark is a pain . I don't use the remote enough to fully memorize the precise location of the pop-up menu button , for example . I suppose , in time , this will change as I become more familiar with the device .

It isn't necessary if you are just going to use the PS3 for gaming . Since I purchased a PS3 , I've used it about 90% of the time for watching Blu Ray movies and 10% of the time for gaming . Since I beat Resistance : Fall of Man , I've not had much else to play on the system . Hopefully that ratio will begin to balance out with newer , more promising games coming out ( Motorstorm , Lair , Warhawk , Devil May Cry 4 , MGS4 , etc . ) One thing I noticed when using the Sixaxis to control movies was that the trigger buttons were easily pressed by setting the controller down . This would either cause the movie to begin FF or REW . That was annoying . Since I use the PS3 so much for watching movies , this was an accessory I was happy to see hit the market . It is pretty much a standard Sony remote . I have several Sony TVs , and this remote is shaped very much like them . It will function exactly as you would expect and it makes watching movies a lot easier than utilizing the Sixaxis . This will be money well-spent if you use the PS3 for movies !

Cons : 1 ) no backlit keys , bad for dark home theaters ( however , key layout is very natural and logical ) 2 ) cannot really be used with any other player , i.e . proprietary PS3 . 3 ) Takes up one of the 7 controller spots ( arguably you have 7 , but you'll hardly ever need more than 4 controllers ) . Pros : 1 ) BLUETOOTH : you do not have to point it or anything . Just click the button and you're heard . 2 ) Logical layout of keys 3 ) Traditional PS2 keys ( triangle , square etc ) have kept functions , i.e . the unit functions very logically : you can figure out what to press by just using a little bit of noggin ' . 4 ) Design : looks like an integrated part of the PS3 , so very pretty .

          • 056 4  I got a PS3 for Christmas as a Blu-Ray and regular DVD player . I was an early adopter on the Xbox 360 and was SURE that HD-DVD would be the winning format . History has shown that to be wrong . Stinging from my poor decision , I waited it out and well , what the heck , adopted Blu-ray hoping that my purchase wasn't the start of some sort of Blu-Ray pandemic that would 86 yet another own-your-own-media format . When it tanks , I'm movin ' to Uruguay to harvest guano . However , I am one of the few people alive that can comment on the Xbox remote control vs . the PS3 Remote . The major difference is that the Xbox control LIT UP . The PS3 does not light up . Which really , is numb . Oh sure it's Bluetooth but when we watch movies , it's not in a brightly lit room . We're rockin ' the home theater experience which means it's dark and you have to watch out that you don't inadvertently sit on a nesting feline . The ergonomics are weak meaning that there is no real texture telling you that one button means play and the other stop or pause or fast forward or chapter ahead . They are sized a whisker differently but really , why no lights ? Or even something that glows ? Or package it with a flashlight . You're killin ' me here . And I'm dying to know , what are the multi-colored buttons for ? Actually , that's hyperbole . I truly don't care . Someone will post that the buttons actually have an importance rivaled only by the discovery of the polio vaccine or fire but I could give a hoot . I'd press these pretty buttons ( they sure are tempting since everything else is blacked out ) but in the event it somehow controls some behavior on the PS3 that would forever eliminate the color red from existence , I'm keeping my curiosity at bay . That said , when you can actually see the buttons it does work without any flaws and you don't have to wave it around trying to make contact with the PS3 as it's not an infrared signal from the remote to the Blu-ray . And mixing Bluetooth with Blu-Ray is pretty awesome . Not really but is it simply coincidence all of this bluish high tech stuff ? I think not . Anyway , Xbox remote which still works on my 6 HD-DVD's which will one day be relegated to ultra-high-definition beer coasters gets 5 stars . Ho hum PS3 darkened remote gets 2 because it's of very little use in a darkened room and it has the potentially doomsday multicolored buttons .
          • 059 4  Without specifically delving into each and every feature here goes my thoughts on the device . + Much easier to navigate and manage BD watching experience on the PS3 compared to the controller . This alone is worth buying it for . People who regularly use the PS3 controller for BD movie watching - hats off to you . + Consistent with the remote to control a movie watching experience mantra . Feels normal . + Good battery life . + Does not take up bluetooth port on the PS3 ( which is premium in the slim models ) + Pretty reasonable at $20 . + works in non-line of sight scenarios . We have a little kid who loves fiddling with our electronics . So we keep the Ps3 inside an entertainment center with wooden doors . All IR remotes fail when the door is closed . Not the Ps3 BT based remote . Props to bluetooth more than anything else . - Occasionally the BT pairing between the Ps3 and the remote fails and need to be re pair ed . Hassle but not very painful . - Some of the keys dont make much sense honestly . - This is a knock on the ps3 - netflix experience more than anything else but controlling the netflix streamed content is not as intuitive as that of a BD disc . Cant blame the remote but maybe Sony / Netflix will think about a new iteration of the remote with hotkeys for the netflix ps3 user ? - bluetooth means not compatible with other devices and cannot function as a universal remote . So one more remote on your desk . All in all , worth spending $20 especially if you watch a lot of blu ray movies on your Ps3 . For $20 , you cant go wrong .
          • 060 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) I have enjoyed having the remote and would buy it again but it was frustrating to get working . The remote must be initially connected ( paired ) to the PS3 which should be a very easy process . The instructions are clear and easy to follow . Based on my internet research , most people don't have a problem with the initial connection but more than a few do have a difficult time . I tried all the tips on the PS3 websites but none of the advice helped . However , I just kept trying to connect the unit and on about the 15th attempt ( it seemed like a lot more ) the unit finally connected . Since then it is just the thing to have to watch DVDs and internet TV . If you buy this remote be prepared to spend some time getting it working and don't give up .

          • 062 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) This could be so much better if they would make a small change to it . I read the reivews on this and saw several people mentioning they did not like it because it did not have backlit buttons . I thought it would not be a big deal . Well now I have it and I see why it is a big deal . This remote is black and the buttons are black . I was talking to some friends who have it and they said they have to have PS3 find the connect to it constantly . They say it is such a pain that they would rather use their game controller . I have not experienced this yet but I have not had it that long . I love the Bluetooth . It is great that you do not have to make sure you are pointing the remote directly to the PS3 . I wished they would make every device be able to use a Bluetooth remote . I may start thinking differently if I start having the PS3 find the Bluetooth .

          • 064 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Works OK , but I'm hugely irritated by one thing : while the button which takes you to the game console menu politely asks you if you really want to stop playback , the Stop button ( the one with a square on it ) simply stops it , no going back . If you press it , then you have to start the player up again , you have to sit through * all * the menus and disclaimers and warnings , language selections , logos , graphics candy and general BS , and * then * you have to navigate to the last place you played , because the machine does not remember it ( why not , Sony ? My DVD player remembers ) . * And * the Stop button is right between the Play and the Pause buttons ! I've pressed it several times by accident .

          • 066 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Pros : - It is a wireless bluetooth device , so you do not need to point at the PS3 to use it . - Comes with batteries - It is one of the few ( if not the only ) remotes compatible with the PS3 without and IR adapter - Not only for Bluray movies and DVDs , but also for music and videos on the hard drive as well as for surfing the web - You can check the battery level when you press the PS button Cons : - The bluetooth function uses too much battery power - It is a big remote - It has many buttons - The buttons are hard to see - Any button turns the system on ( trust me , it can get frustrating ) - Does not have an on / off button - The buttons are hard to see in the dark , as they don't light up or glow - It does not have an indicating light for when you press a button Overall , it does what it should , but it's certainly not great . If you really need it get it , otherwise I would wait for a better version or even a third party remote to come out , if there isn't one out already . Or you could just control the PS3 with the . . um . . PS3 controller ! And the deal with holding the PS button and then pressing OK twice to turn it off doesn't work for me . I should just be able to press a button to turn the system off . Sometimes I turn my PS3 accidentally on when my TV is off and I either have to wait for the system to start up and then press the sequence of buttons with my TV still off , or just turn my TV on to make sure I'm turning it off correctly , or just go up to the PS3 and turn it off manually . It really was a bad idea to have any button turn the PS3 on and to not have an on / off button . For a design this bad , they should have included it with the $600 - $500 systems . Bad , bad Sony . Once again , you've failed us , the loyal customers . Too bad we're stuck with this excuse for a remote .

          • 074 4  I have owned the PS3 Blu-ray Remote since April 2008 when I first got my PS3 . It is a good remote and works very well . It is useful for navigating the Cross Media Bar ( XMB ) when you don't feel like using your controller and also for choosing music tracks , pictures etc . However , there are some glaring issues with the remote which I would like Sony to maybe address in the future . Issue #1 : The first issue I noticed and many have complained about is the Stop button . Now if you have a PS3 with the latest firmware update then this may not be that big of a deal . When you hit stop you will be sent back to the XMB but upon selecting to play your movie again it will resume where it left off . This was a feature later added to the PS3 so owners of older PS3s that did not get that firmware update will have to resume their DVD / Blu-Ray movie from teh beginning . The Stop Button is right smack in between the Play and Pause button like the cream filling in an Oreo cookie . While the Play button does have a raise in it so you can feel it in the dark the Stop and Pause button do not . When I first got this remote I figured that the Pause button would be underneath the Play button but it isn't . I can't count the number of times I have hit Stop only to be brought back to the XMB when I meant to hit Pause . Now I don't have this issue since I have trained myself to remember that the Pause button is at the bottom but this should not be an issue in the first place . The button placement was poorly designed on this remote and I wish Sony would make a revision . Issue #2 : This is an issue which has annoyed me many times , and that is the sensitive buttons . When I am playing my Xbox and I put maybe my television remote to the side and if it lightly taps the PS3 Blu-ray Remote then BOOM my PS3 will turn on . The buttons are extremely sensitive ( just about as sensitive as the PS Button on the center of your PS3 controller . This can also be very annoying if someone by accident touches it ever so slightly during a movie and then you may accidentally hit something you didn't mean to . There should have been more resistance when hitting the buttons . Issue #3 : This issue as much as it would be a luxury . It would have been nice to see the PS3 Blu-ray remote have back-lit buttons so you could see them in the dark . Especially , when the remote already has some silly button set-ups this would be very helpful . Aside from these three things this is an excellent remote . The battery life is very good and in the two years I have had this remote I only recall changing the batteries in it twice . I would recommend this remote to anybody who owns a PS3 because it does make your movie watching experience much more enjoyable then using the standard DualShock 3 / Six-Axis Controller .

You can't turn off the PS3 with one button - you have to navigate through the menus or just walk over and turn it off . 2 . The fast forward / reverse and the skip buttons are difficult to distinguish in the dark . A little back-lighting would help . 3 . The response time is kinda slow . You may think it didn't register your pause button push before it finally pauses a few seconds later - probably a Bluetooth thing . We still use it all the time when watching movies , but it would be nice if there was another option .

It makes watching a DVD or Blu-Ray on the PS3 stress-free for everyone . Setup is easy . For $20 , it does the job fine . Also , please note that while some reviews gripe about the incompatibility of Bluetooth technology with most universal remotes , that is a function of the PS3 itself not having an infrared port , not this remote being Bluetooth . It's also why a remote designed to be Bluetooth-only doesn't have controls for everything else in your system , since most other devices use infrared technology .

This one works good , but there's a lot of buttons on there . And the behavior of the assigned buttons is a bit odd sometimes . Still , much better than trying to explain or guess which button on the game controller makes it fast forward . The most annoying thing about the remote is that there's no Power Off button .

          • 089 4  This remote is useful for DVD / Blu-Ray playback , but for the price and the brand name , the quality of this product should have been higher . Pros : - Nicely shaped and balanced - Bluetooth-based , which is a huge improvement over IR-based remote Cons : - Poor ergonomics : no backlit buttons , no glow-in-dark for button labels , no braille-like bumps to help identify the buttons by feel in the dark . - Further , buttons are packed very close to one another , which make it easy to reach with a thumb , but also make it very easy to press the wrong button ( s ) - Stop button is inexplicably sandwiched tightly between the Play and Pause buttons , making it very easy to press stop button by error . During Sony's glory days ( the Trinitron era ) , its remotes were the paragon of ergonomic design and functional elegance . Sony has done a great job with PS3 , but this remote falls short in design and execution .

          • 093 4  I have been using the Sony PS3 Blu Ray Disc Remote for over a year now . Very solid and dependable . Great functionality . Buttons are a little small for my fingers but a minor annoyance . The major thing I wish is that it had backlit buttons for those times when watching a dark movie with all the lights off . ( Gotta watch those horror and deep space movies in the dark on the large screen HDTV . ) It is easy to hit the wrong button in the dark . With backlighting this remote would get a solid 5 star rating ! Sony , you listening ?
          • 094 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) The remote is fine , works very well but it has 2 issues that are more annoying then anything else . the buttons are very sensitive to being pressed and don't have much resistance to being pressed so even tossing a light blanket on top of it caused a button press , also the PS3 will turn on on any button press , it doesn't matter which button any will turn it on , that might be fixable with a firmware mod but as they haven't done it since the release of the remote years ago they probably won't . Otherwise its very good at being just a remote , just be careful of where you put it and what you place around or on top of it .
          • 097 4  Don't know why people rated this 1 - 2 stars , they must have not known how to operate it or lacked some common sense .
          • 098 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) This product did not work ok when I received it - the batteries were old and dead . If I did not read someone's review on the Playstation Network that the same thing had happened to them , I would have been afraid and upset that the remote I just bought did not work at all . I put in some fresh rechargable batteries I had at home and the remote worked fine . Just do not be suprised if the remote fails to work with your Playstation 3 , don't panic until you put in some fresh batteries and then register it under accessory settings . Good luck !
          • 100 4  We primarily purchased the Playstation 3 as a Blu-Ray player , so it only made sense to get the remote . It was easy to pair the remote to the console ( though there is a process involved ; it won't work automatically ) . I really can't imagine controlling Blu-Rays without this remote . My husband and I are very happy with our purchase : great price , excellent functionality , very convenient .

With a dualshock3 you need both hands , while with this remote you need only one while the other one grabs the popcorn . I even use it to navigate the XMB , the Playstation Store , Youtube XL , etc . I've also become spoiled by the fact that , no matter how you hold it or how many obstacles are between the remote and the PS3 , the signal always arrives . That's because it uses Bluetooth instead of those ancient infrared lamps . Now I'm annoyed every time my other remotes need to be pointed to the device they operate . That's so XX century !

Trying to navigate through a movie with the PS3 controller is a nightmare . For $20 shipped , every PS3 owner should have this .

Excellent .

          • 119 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Just thought I would post a quick review for this remote .
          • 121 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) I'm very pleased with the remote . I think it should have been packaged with the PS3 , but no point nit picking what didn't happen . It works as a remote should with easy of use , intuitive button locations , and most importantly ( to me ) a POWER ON and OFF switch for the PS3 . No more manual PS2 power button . Woot ! The bluetooth feature is really cool . Now that I know ( in my head ) what the PS3 menu looks like , I can change the music selection from anywhere in my house with this remote . I rather like that . No more line of sight required !

          • 130 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Ive had my PS3 for around two weeks now and ive found that ive been using it play lots of movies . Its a top quality player and can play DVD's and Blu Ray movies out of the box . However , the Sixaxis controller is terrible for controlling movies . I found myself accidently pressing buttons ( stopping a DVD halfway through arghh ! ) and wondering which button does what ( the start button is the pause button . . . whats with that ? ) . So anyway , i bought this remote and im very pleased with it . Its made of very high quality plastic and feels very expensive . Each button has an explanation and you can control the PS3 XMB with it too ( ive found that the web browser and PS3 shop is easier to use with this ) . My favourite feature is the bluetooth connection , i don't have to point it anywhere to use it . The only thing that bugs me about this remote is that it really makes the PS3 complete and should have been included with the PS3 . Nevertheless i highly recommend this remote to all .

Also the Sixaxis is incredibly sensitive and the slightest motion will press one of the buttons causing unexpected results . This blu ray remote from Sony solves all of these and does it with style . It can be used for browsing the PS network store as well , which is an additional bonus . This is a must have for all PS3 owners . Great value for money at this price .

It was very confusing for me to work the DVD with the regular PS3 Game controler . I had to ask my kids , How do you pause ? . . . how do you rewind ? . . . They would say stuff like , Press the Triangle . . . Press R1 . . . Press X , No Press X THEN R1 . . . Forget all that . This remote was only $24.00 And operates just like any other remote that you are already used to . It very simple to figure out , Has every function that you will ever need , ( and more ) . And the price was very reasonable ( if you purchased any of the other PS3 stuff you know what I mean ) . I consider it a Must Have if you are going to watch DVD's on your PS3 .

          • 144 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) The remote works great . . . . but unless you always want to use the ' special features ' on a DVD / Blu-ray disc you will NOT need this remote . I bought it ' just because ' having a remote for the PS3 sounded like a good idea , since all my other audio / video components have remotes as well . Now that I have this , I realize how much of a waste of money this was . Unless you are constantly stoppping or viewing alternate camera angles , you wont need this remote , just use the regular ps3 controller to start and stop the movies . . .
          • 146 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) The product is very nice , works perfectly . Very similar to current Sony remotes . Only one main complaint , as a previous review stated , pressing any button on the unit will activate the PS3 . This is highly aggravating as my daughter loves to play with remotes and she has a knack for finding them . A firmware upgrade to be able to change it to only activate by hitting the PS button would be appreicated . That said , it is MUCH nicer than the PS2 remote and well worth it if you plan to use the PS3 for movies , DVD or Blu-Ray .

          • 152 4  I got a PS3 exclusively to use as a Blu-ray player , so of course I wanted a proper remote for it .
          • 153 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Pros : - Works well in 13ft + long distance . - No line of sight required . Uses radio waves ( bluetooth ) - Works well , no glitches Cons : - Not practical for web browsing - Hard to use in dark . Most buttons are nearly identical shape and size , hard to distinguish by touch . Conclusion : - If you use PS3 as your primary DVD player , you must buy it , but don't expect more than that .

          • 155 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) This is an excellent product . Contrary to an earlier review , there is a Power On / Off button ; simply hold the PS button , located directly below the Enter button .
          • 160 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) This remote , as others have said , does the job you would intend it to .

Remote controls should always come with the items they were meant to control ! Having said that , I think this remote does what it's supposed to do with the typical Sony refinement that the company's known for . It looks and feels like the remote that CAME with my Sony XBR LCD television . It's a lot easier than trying to control Blue-Ray / DVD playback with your PS3 controller . Fork over the 20 bucks . You'll be happy you did after getting over your initial bitterness about having to buy something separate that should have been included in your PS3 purchase to begin with !

Don't continue to use your controller when you can have a real remote like this . It has all the functions of a regular dvd player remote . You can turn off the PS3 system by holding the P button just like your controller . No longer do you need to guess which buttons stop , play , pause . . . they are all labeled the way you like them with this product .

In the middle of the remote there is the Playstation Logo button , like on the controllers , that will turn the PS3 on with no problems . To turn it off just hold down that button and it gives you a menu to turn off the console . . . easy as that . Overall this remote works perfectly fine . It does what it is meant to do and I actually like the fact that it is bluetooth because it doesn't have to be pointing at the PS3 to function .

          • 214 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Golly I've got a lot of remotes . But I thought this might come in handy since I watch a lot of movies and the PS3 is my primary DVD and Blu-Ray player . I mostly only use the lower half : play , pause , stop , forward , rewind , etc . And for that alone , it was worth the $20 . The added perk is that I don't have to explain the controls to other users , i.e . , mom , gf , non-gaming visitors . When we're vegging out over a movie , I don't want to have to scramble for the six-axis and try to remember what button does what whenever the other viewers want to see that again . I point to the remote and let them figure it out . It's a simple luxury , but one you will definitely appreciate once you get this remote for yourself . The neat part is that it's connected via bluetooth . No more remote-fu trying to get a clear angle on the player . You can be in a completely different part of the house and still control the movie . The disadvantage is that you cannot program a traditional universal infrared remote to control the PS3 . Having so many remotes isn't so bad . After all , I only really need 1 at a time . I don't need to turn the stereo up when I'm watching movies . I guess I just don't party that hard .

          • 220 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) As a person who is utilizing the blu-ray player in their PS3 I wanted a remote because controlling a movie with the standard controller just annoys me . This remote does the trick however the buttons are placed in bad areas . You often hit stop instead of pause or play and it doesn't restart the movie right where you left off . . . you have to go through the menu . With today's technology and Sony being a lead contender I am overall unhappy with this remote , it should have 1 of 2 things 1 ) . glow in the dark buttons for the main buttons or 2 ) . a glow in the dark button that you push and it lights up the entire remote so you can see the buttons . Most people do watch movies IN THE DARK ! I am shock Sony doesn't realize this and I'm shocked they haven't redesigned . . . if they ever do redesign for my like I would purchase that one . . . which is a double sale for them . . . It does the trick but it is tricky to use . . .

The two cons I have for it is that first , it doesn't allow for adjusting TV volume , and it doesn't illuminate . These are two things I grown accustomed to with my XBOX 360 TV remote . But the remote does what its intended to do , control blu-ray playback without the use of the controller .

Good durability - - my remote has been dropped on hard wood floors dozens of times and still works perfect and has no signs of damage at all . The battery life is about 6 months with fairly regular use .

Second , I bought this remote control to because it's not convenient to use the controller to control DVDs / Videos . That remote control works very well , just it's a bit expensive , and there's no other choice because you can use it with any other universal remote control . It's much easier to use , especially for non-gamers ( like my parents ) than a PS3 controller . It pairs pretty easily and uses Bluetooth technology , just like normal PS3 controllers . It annoys me that one is limited to using a bluetooth remote , rather than a universal remote on the PS3 . I have a Sony TV - - the remote that came with the TV has DVD / Bluray controlling buttons , but the PS3 has no receiver for standard remotes . That said , this isn't a very expensive tool , and probably makes navigating the system easier than any other remote .

We all hate to use the dualshock2 controller to control movies . Especially since the control goes into a sleep mode after some minutes . Anywas this remote has every single button you could need for in a movie . I like using the slow step buttons to catch something in movies I never found before . Anyways everyone that watches a lot of movies in their ps3 definitely has to get one of these remotes . The only downside to it is that it doesn't let me go through some websites like grooveshark to listen to some music online .

However , my passion is a fear for my father-in-law who looks at my home entertainment system with a lot of anxiety . Thanks to this remote , he can at least use the PS3 with some confidence and competence for watching movies . Using the PS3 controller for that function was too complicated and not user friendly . Now , he has no trouble at all with clearly marked functions on this remote .

          • 306 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Honestly this remote should have come free with PS3 or PS3 should have had a infra red port so that we could have used the normal universal remote ( instead of this bluetooth remote ) . Having said that this is like any other remote when it comes to using PS3 for playing DVDs . Layout is pretty simple but it does look little crowded with all those buttons . I would not use it as a replacement for the controllers .

I tried the sony support number but they were no help and tried to say that my remote needed to be sent back to amazon . I eventually got the controller to work by pairing it while the dual shock 3 controller was connected via USB .

It seems like a waste of money . Basically , you can perform the same functions with the controller . It is too complex for those people who cannot use the controller . So I do not really get the point of it . Plus , a lot of functions you would like to see it perform are not arranged in a logical fashion . I would skip this and just use the controller . For people who cannot master the use of the controller , this remote is too complex .

          • 320 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Somehow , pressing the playstation button on the remote to turn on the PS3 causes the link between the two to malfunction . I have had to re-register the remote with the system more than a couple of times . Using any other button to power up is ok . After some time that you don't use the remote while watching movies , the connection goes in a sort of sleep mode and it takes a second or two for your button press to actually take effect .

          • 334 4  This remote is a great alternative to using the PS3 controller , since you either have to leave the controller on all the time while watching a movie ( draining the battery ) or have it set up to shut off after a set period of time ( causing you to have to wait 2 - 3 seconds for the controller to turn on before pushing a button ) . Cons : ( although minor ) ~ I will agree with the other reviewers that it would be nice if the remote were backlit or glowed in the dark , but that is definitely not a deal breaker . ( Half star loss ) ~ The remote itself is rather large and features several buttons that I never use . ( Half star loss ) As for the Stop button's location between the Play and Pause button , I would have to say that it is not a big deal , in that if you are using it in the dark , and need to pause the movie , you know that the Pause button is the bottom-most large button on the remote . My feeling is that it allows you to quickly pause a movie without having to even look at the remote . Overall , I would definitely buy this remote if you watch a lot of movies on your PS3 .

For me , it is not true . Comparing to using the controller , it is harder for me to locate the button i want . Controller assign the functions to each button so naturally that you do not need to remember . Besides , as you hold it in your hand , you can easily locate any button without moving your eyes off the screen . I wonder why others like the remote . I don't find it useful .

          • 340 4  This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) Too many times I found myself fumbling around with trying to fast forward , rewind or even see what part of a movie I was in with the PS3 controller . This is a true remote control with buttons that just do the job . I find myself using it more than the controller for navigating through the main menus and just using the controller for gaming . Since owning for a brief time , this has made a major difference in my use of the PS3 as a media device . Especially since i also use it for NetFlix streaming . The only flaw is no backlighting for key buttons like I have on my other remotes . This makes it difficult to use while watching movies with the lights dimmed and is the only reason why it's not 5 stars . Still , this remote is a vast improvement for using the PS3 ' s non-gaming features . I highly recommend .

          • 353 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) This remote works very well and does exactly what is advertised . . . controlling DVD and Blu-ray playback through the PS3 . Pros : It is a full-featured remote that does what it is supposed to . Since it uses Bluetooth instead of infrared , you do not need to have line of sight in order for the remote to operate the PS3 . Cons : Since it uses Bluetooth instead of infrared , you cannot use this as a universal remote to control your TV or any other electronics . There is no light or any kind of indication on the remote itself to indicate that it is working correctly . Other thoughts : This remote will have to by synced to your PS3 before it will operate . The manual explains this , but for those of us that don't read manuals , you might be left thinking you got a defective remote .

          • 356 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) I bought this remote because using the controller to navigate the menus on bluray movies kinda sucks . This remote is better than that , but that's about it . It works , but I don't find the button layout to be all that intuitive . I understand that the remote has to use bluetooth , but it would be really handy if at least it could turn the volume on my TV up and down ( like the XBOX 360 remote can ) so I don't have to have two remotes handy all the time . It also is rather annoying that because it's bluetooth it's really easy to pause or stop the video you are watching by just bumping the remote , even if it's not pointed even sort of at the screen . Overall it's not a fantastic remote , but I doubt you are going to do much better .

          • 361 4  Remote pairs with PS3 via Bluetooth so it's nice not to have to point the remote at the PS3 to control it .

Got the PS3 slim and just truly love it . We watch moves a LOT and using the controller was just a pain because you will get the controller , the knobs and next thing you know your an hour in the movie or an hour back . It just starting to be a pain so we got this remote and we love it ! since we always had Sony products , like Sony DVD player , TV , sound system . The remotes like never change . still the great remote with everything label out . Got the remote , set it up on the PS3 and got it working in seconds . Love this remote , it's just so much better watching movies on the PS3 . This is the must have . I mean it's a remote , it works how it should . Though the PS3 slim doesn't have an eye , so you can use something like the Logitech harmony or something . But there is an USB adapter for the PS3 slim that will make use of the Logitech harmony . This remote does not have an eye , since it is a bluetooth remote , which is actually better since you don't have to point at the ps3 . I couldn't watch movies with out this remote . It does the job and does it well .

          • 371 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote ( Accessory ) The main reason I use the PS3 is to watch downloaded movies and TV shows and blurays ( gaming comes second ) . . . if your like me then you must get this remote . Oh well .

Oh well .
          • 373 4  The main reason I use the PS3 is to watch downloaded movies and TV shows and blurays ( gaming comes second ) . . . if your like me then you must get this remote . ! ! • 374 4  I have owned the remote for over 3 years . I have changed the battery 2 times , so that is awesome . I watch an average of 2 movies a week . I own a harmony one remote , that I think is the best freaking remote ever made . The harmony doesn't have blue-tooth , unless you buy an adapter at around $50 . I would have gotten that add if it weren't for the price and if I really could find fault with this PS3 remote . It works great . The only negative is that it doesn't light up in the dark or have glow in the dark buttons . After a while you will learn to operate the remote without looking in the dark by feel . But with blu-ray movies there are ton of features where you have seconds to react . That is when glow in the dark buttons would be nice . I sometimes hit the stop button when I try to use the 1.5x feature during slow parts of a movie . But it happens less often as I get used to the remote . Sony once put an update where you could use the arrow button to fast forward or pause , but took that feature away after an update . I still don't know why they removed that feature . It was awesome . I recommend this remote for cost and efficiency . It is a most if you use your PS3 as a movie player . And who doesn't , it is the best blu-ray player on the market . I often use this remote instead of the game remote for games and web surfing . The remotes keys are very efficient .

It works great . Once we got used to the buttons and menus , it makes watching movies much easier ! !
