Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1-Channel Theater System (Black)

  • 011 4  In another life , pre-divorce ; ) I owned higher end systems over the years . This product compares very favorably to systems costing much more . Installation could not be easier . I have no problem whatsoever with the S-AIR rear speakers despite having other wireless devices in the same room . I'm amazed at the big sound from such small unobtrusive speakers . The iPod doc is amazing as well . I can't really speak for the DVD part because I use my PS3 to play BD . The specs state that the video signal is upgraded to 1080p via HDMI so I'll leave it to other reviewers to address that . My HDTV is a Sony Bravia with Bravia Link , which sweetens the deal even more . The subwoofer , although passive , is amazingly crisp and penetrating ( at least in my environment ) . I cannot recommend this system too highly . Unless you are an audiophile with big bucks to throw around , you can't go wrong . It's a perfect starter for the beginning home theater enthusiast , and more than adequate for just about anyone whose ego will allow them to get a great system at a low cost . I'll add one last comment that has been stated before . The receiver has been criticized for having too few inputs to accomodate multiple devices . The simple work-around is to connect all devices to your TV and use a digital audio optical cable from the TV to the receiver .
    • 039 4  This system comes with clear instructions but still takes some time to get up & running . The box had a gash in it that looked like a forklift hit it , luckily nothing was harmed . The speakers are lightweight but don't hinder the performance . It also made it safer to mount the tall front speakers on the wall . The sub is nice & solid but doesn't have a nob to adjust volume . Instead the system calibrates the optimum sub level . There are some on screen controls but that doesn't replace a nob on the fly . To me it's a little bass heavy . Sound quality is great but not the best . DVD playback is flawless . The radio works well but can be hard to navigate . I had no problems with the wireless rear speakers , the rear channels connect by wire to a box which receives the wireless signal . Definitely pick up an optical cable so things that pass through the TV can be heard in surround sound . Without it only DVD & the radio will be in surround .
    • 136 4  this was given as a gift . But they love it and it works great if you have a sony T.V .
    • 149 4  We bought this to help improve the sound quality from our TV and DVDs . It's a great system , for more than just sound . It's allowed us to create a full entertainment unit and meant we didn't have to buy a special sound system for our iPods . It assembled easily and we had no issues . The only ' problem ' was 2 of the speakers have a tall stand , and it didn't work in our house . The solution was easy - - we took them off the stands and laid the speakers on their sides . Works just as well as standing up . The surround sound is great , and the Night feature is wonderful . Heartily recommend , especially considering the price .

  • 019 4  I wanted to upgrade the sound for my 48 Samsung DLP TV . I paid $325.00 for this system & am absolutely delighted . If you want chest thumping , crisp bass for explosions you will be disapointed but if you want deep base with very minimal distortion you will be VERY happy . Music sounds great ! LOL . . . I've got almost 12 grand invested in speakers alone for my stereo system & obviously the sound is extraordinary but truth is , for just casual listening , this system satisfies me . I bought this for my TV & though I could have spent about $1200.00 for a receiver to use my stereo speakers & another $300.00 or so for a decent center speaker . . . I didn't wanna ! I just wanted decent sound from the TV but got a bonus in that the Sony provides me with reasonable music sound as well . There is no Blue Ray player , I don't care ! I can add one later but doubt I will . You can't upgrade speakers with this as the speakers are rated @ 3amps . . . SO what ? ! It sounds just fine . The features are limited but I find the night button , which turns down the bass , really cool . Set up is not enhanced by the owners manual but if you are willing to read it , LOL , a couple times or four , all the information you need is there . Just not exactly intuitive . The rear speakers are not truly Wireless as they need to be connected to a small Receiver / amplifier which needs to be plugged in too . The configuration of my viewing room works fine for this & there is plenty of speaker wire for these speakers . Mine are about 16 feet apart & could go wider . Some folks have stated the front Left-right speaker wiring is to short but I've got mine at 15 feet . They must have bigger rooms . Bottom line ? There is no way you could get this quality sound for less money & to better it appreciably you are going to have to up the ante by another $1000.00 at least . I'm a happy camper .
    • 017 4  I've been using my 589W for about three weeks . The wireless is crystal clear , no problems with other wireless networks and other devices in the house degrading sound . Mine is connected to a Toshiba REGZA ClearScan 240 47ZV650U . Image and sound from DVD is great , TV to receiver the same . Really easy to set up , the speaker auto configure mic is fast and easy , still lots of manual control to personalize . The receiver's remote is for the Sony only and can not be programmed to control the TV , however , both the cable box universal remote and Toshiba REGZA link had no problem controlling the Sony equipment . So by menu selection , the Toshiba starts , controls and shuts down the Sony receiver .
    • 036 4  Overall , this system is good . Its appearance is OK for an inexpensive unit . It was easy to set up and has worked flawlessly for two months now . The sound is adequate and the auto-tuning of speakers was a big help . The best feature is the night mode which knocks down background sound in favor of dialogue . It could be improved , however . The speaker wires , which have special fittings that connect the front speakers to the main unit , are woefully short and thin . Read : cost savings . We have a small family room and the wires do not even accommodate our small family room . The remote is NOT backlit and is laid out poorly so it's easy to use the wrong button at times . The manual could be improved - - where I need detailed information , the manual skips by lightly , leaving me to figure out how it works . There is no ( 800 ) phone for Sony in the manual - - which tells me they don't really want to help the customer . Given the above , I rate it at a weak 4 .
    • 112 4  I am very pleased with the end result of combining my home theater with my recently purchased sony bravia TV . I purposely bought both units from the same brand ( SONY ) to enjoy the combination of controls & options offered by having both be the same brand . Installation was easy , owner's manual was very instructive . the system has far more features than I expected for the dollars invested . The maximum volume is a little less than I would have liked but it certainly is adequate for most situations . again for the reasonable price I am very satisfied .

    • 119 4  I am very satisfied with this system . Very reasonably priced and the sound quality is excellent . It makes watching TV a pleasure and using the HDMI cable makes a big difference too . I am still a believer in SONY . I would recommend this system .
    • 223 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Good : Sounds very good . Crisp . Well developed components . Connection is a breeze . Bad : To use rear speakers , you have to use wireless system . I had the whole house wired for surround sound , however , I can not use them as the system makes you use their wireless components . Ugly : You can not control individual channel . REMOTE CONTROL . come on SONY . It has many functionality . . . But you need a SONY TV and everything to make use of them . It works only with SONY . Satisfied . . . I guess OK . . . . But have many reservations . . . . For $325.00 , is it worth the money . . . . I guess no . . . .

  • 041 4  Bought this to compliment my new samsung 55 LED LCD . Took almost 2 hours to get everything connected and working properly which wasn't bad . Setup was easy . The system sounds great for the price and the ipod dock , radio , and audio jack in port is useful . The rear wireless speakers are great for not having wires show acroos the living room . But it does take a lot of time to find a place for the reciever where it doesn't disconnect . Try to find a direct line of sight for the mian console and the reciever . Also try yo not put the main system in a heavy wood or metal stand . Other than that once everything is working it sounds and looks great . I recommend using an optical audio cable to get the bestsound for anything comin out of your tv to your surround sound . I have audio coming through the surround sound for everything - Cable , DVD , Bluray , PS3 , and Wii . If you really don't want to spend more then you will be satisfied with this system .
    • 169 4  Easy to set up , awesome picture and sound . Standard DVDs look great on my Sony LCD . Wireless rear speakers work as advertised . Would recommend this home theater system to anyone .
    • 189 4  a very good system it has improved the sound of my new hd tv would recomend to anyone
    • 222 4  i am not sure how to review this system , the sound is very poor it is a bit difficult to set up , wireless system 20 ft away and sound is very poor , as for upgrading video it is almost non existent quality of videos is basically the same as any dvd player . do not recommend this system . i have this system tied into a sony kdl52xbr9 flat panel tv .

  • 053 4  This was my first home theatre purchase and i wasnt sure if it was the best choice , i admired the samsung for its looks though remembered a previous bad encounter with a Hifi i bought some years back , the panasonic home theatre also caught my attention in the cost range but following reviews , i gave the sony the shot . First , I got to see & hear the panasonic - it looked cheap and sounded not great , then the samsung which wasnt outstanding as i though , compared to sony , infact , the sony had a better remote and in my opinion sound too . each day i play music or movies , am satisfied I made the best choice in quality & price with no regret . the Sony performs ! and I must commend AMAZON for great service delivery ! !
    • 073 4  Had purchased a new 47 VIZIO with HD . . originally purchased a Samsung home theater system . . got home and the Samsung system was horrible . Decided we wanted a Sony one but could not find one in stock around where we live . I decided to look on Amazon . . and thank god I did ! ! ! We found this system for over $180 dollars cheaper then from the Sony website . . and it is AWESOME . . AMAZING . . just plain GRRRREAT ! The sound quality is great . . the volume is booming I mean shakes your pictures LOUD . . and the quality of the DVD is great too . Definatley very very pleased with this system .
    • 130 4  We bought this sound system for our first home theater system , The wireless is really a great feature so you have less wires and still works awesome ! The sound quality and 5.1 dynamics are wonderful and add to the effect of the movie , i would say , more then other sound systems . The 5 disc DVD upscaler / player . Works wonderful and also reduces wires of dvd players etc . The bass , being how it is passive and not powered , still gives the big boom and rumble as if it was powered instead of passive ! Fiber Optics provide an amazing experience as well and help with the sound quite allot ! Overall , and AMAZING sound system and well worth your money

  • 069 4  I read a lot of reviews for the Sony systems available for my Bravia 40 set and I thought this was going to be worth the investment.I am very pleased with this setup as the sound quality is more than just ok.Crisp clear highs , deep room vibrating bass and great separation.Installation was easy and calibration was perfect. My one beef is with Sony , s lack of clear description of options prior to purchase. When I decided to purchase the model with wireless speakers my plan was to use the wireless in another room and to hook up wired speakers in the main listening room.Unfortunately Sony opted to delete any jacks for wired rear speakers from the the back unit so you have to purchase another wireless unit and speakers to send sound to another area.Oh well , other than that I am very pleased with the performance.Great Quality.Good price .
    • 132 4  My husband had been wanting a home theatre system . He had bought a bargain a few years back that turned out to be worthless . I was hesitant to purchase another one . This home theater system was easy to put together . The sound quality is great . The price was very reasonable . What more could you want ? The only very minor downside was that he had to run out to get a cable to complete the connection to our existing TV / DVD / Direct TV system .
    • 218 4  This sound system I bought was good but not good enough for it's price . I regreted buying after I saw my friend's sound system in his house . The surround sound isn't that good . For example you barely hear the back speakers . My friend bought a philips from costco and it's amazing . So far if this one has a better back sound quality then it should be as good .

  • 077 4  I purchased this home theater syastem for $279.99 the day after Thanksgiving in 2009 . The system arrived in a timely manner and in great working order . Putting the system together and hooking it up was fairly easy , considering I have never connected a home theater system in my life . The sound is amazing and the fact that the rear speaker system connects wirelessly to the receiver means no cords across the room , awesome ! The one drawback is that there is no adjustments available for the subwoofer ( that I have found ) . Adjustments for this would be helpful , since there is too much bass at times . I would recommend this system to anyone .
    • 093 4  What an awesome deal ! I was thoroughly empressed with the setup and the sound . This is a great buy for the price ! I highly recommend this setup . I am not technically savvy and it was easy for even me to put together . LOVE the ipod connection . It charges as well .
    • 117 4  I bought these speakers for a great price and they were unbelievably easy to setup . I saw in someone elses review that the sub woofer was too bassy . . . . . . not at all . I love the sound form this thing . The wireless rear speakers pretty much set themselves up . I highly recommend this product if you can get it for under $450 .
    • 183 4  Arrived on time and the sound is wonderfull . The installation is made very easy and I will recommend this product even to my mother inlaw

  • 087 4  We love our new sytem . Would be better if it had more the one audio optical input . Also the sound is great . If you are looking system for a huge room ( ours is about 13 ' x13 ' ) you may want something with more power . It's terrific for our space , but if you really want to blow your socks off volume during the movie ( where you can't hear someone next to you ) then this isn't your system . Otherwise it's a great value .
    • 047 4  Simple to hook up , unbelievable sound for movies etc . It is not truly wireless , as advertised . Would much prefer to have seperate tone adjustment options ( rather than auto , music , or movie ) . All in all , a lot of bang for the buck , and well worth every penny .
    • 095 4  We ordered this as an early Christmas present to ourselves . It was easy to set up - - - my husband ( not at all handy ) did it himself . It looks great , and the sound is terrific ! This is one of the best purchases we've made . We highly recommend it .
    • 161 4  It is an excellent home theater system . The sound is great . Although it has a passive sub-woofer but still it gives very good sound quality . The wireless rear speakers are easy to set up . All in all a good system for a very reasonable price .

  • 099 4  Bought this from amazon.com , i like this product so far . It works per spec and was easy to setup and the quality of the sounds is really good for a decent size room .

    • 108 4  I bought this specifically because of the wireless rear speakers setup . Having tried other wireless rear speakers I knew there would be wires to hide but I would not need to run them around or through wall or hide under carpet . I was impress with the ease of set up of the HTIB . I believe from out the box to actual listening took no longer than an hour . From reading other reviews , I thought the wires for the front speakers would not be long enough but they were fine . It is louder than what I would expect from a HTIB . I like that I can hook up my Ipod ( and it gets charged ) to it . Only two optical audio choices in this day and age is not enough but I made it work . Overall very satisfied with purchase .
      • 032 4  I recently purchased this product after doing extensive searching for a surround sound system . I wanted something nice but not too expensive . Then I came across this Sony one and it had everything I wanted including wireless rear speakers and a MP3 hookup . At the store it was still kind of expensive but then I found it on Amazon and it was $125 cheaper and no tax and no shipping . How awesome is that . Everything was so easy to hookup . I hung the speakers on the walls with ease . The sound is just awesome . It looks sleek too . I would and have already recommend this product to others .
      • 079 4  I am so pleased with this unit . I needed to replace a high end JVC receiver which never seemed to meet my needs so I actually downgraded to the Sony . What a pleasant surprise . Very easy to set up and the sound quality was excellent . I incorporated a couple of my older speakers and had the whole thing set up in about an hour . Now I have a system that gives me the capability of understanding what actors are saying in movies plus terrific music sound from my Ipod Touch .
      • 101 4  I chose this system as an economical surround solution for a second living area . I have been impressed with the quality of the sound and the intelligent user interface design . This system sounds great and is very easy to use . It took barely an hour to setup . The wires have plug in connections that make the parts particularly easy to put together . The wireless rear speakers work wonderfully and remove the need for running wires around the entire room .
      • 156 4  I think it was a great deal for the money . I searched for a long time and even looked into getting just a receiver , but for the same price . . . why not surround ? !
      • 195 4  Didn't think it would be all that for the price . Also didn't think it would replace the system I had that cost way more but wow . Nothing else will give you your Dollar worth like this set
      • 200 4  We really enjoy watching movies with the sound surround , it really makes a theater setting out of our living room , I don't have anything to compare it with but I think it is great and would recommend it to others .
      • 206 4  It sounds like a movie theater only better ! ! ! Good product for the money . Amazon had it the cheapest and I received it so fast . We love Amazon . . . . Thank you for your great service . . . . . .
      • 212 4  I have a Samsung tv that I love . Tried there surround sound first did not like it at all . But right out the box I love the sony . speakers were heavier more solid . did not have to buy anything extra for the rear speaker to be wireless . Would recommend to a friend .

    • 114 4  If you have never had a surround system before then you will be more than pleased with this product . It looks sleek , It sounds incredible , its easy to assemble , its easy to operate , its worth your money . I recommend getting a cheap set of optical cables here on amazon as well to optimize your experience . I love the feature night mode on it , it basically turns off the majority of the bass but still gives you that surround sound without being earth pounding loud . The 5 disk changer is a nice complement to go along with it , I did not think that I would use it but I use it all the time for random seasons of various shows . You can just leave the different disks in the changer and turn them on whenever you want without having to take one out put one in all the time . If you have a Sony Bravia T.V . , then this thing works like a charm . You can put a dvd in the changer and have your tv and your sound system completely turned off then push the One touch play button , and your tv turns on and the sound system turns on and it starts playing the dvd automatically with the simple press of one button . The sound doesn't get loud enough to set off any car alarms or anything but it gets more than loud enough . This set really shines when using it to watch blu-ray's when hooked up through an optical cable . Well if you don't feel like going to the movies then bring the movies to you , you will be pleasantly surprised .
      • 004 4  Got this system a couple days ago , and it just blows me away . The sound is amazing , the sub really kicks out deep bass , its looks great and the picture is crystal clear also . The rear wireless has been flawless , microwave , cordles phone does not interfere with it at all . I have this system in a medium room and sounds wonderful . Has a 5 dvd / cd changer , am / fm tuner , ipod cradle included , input in front for headphones and mp3 player , hdmi , component , composite video out and coaxil and optical input also. The romote is not universal but works only for Sony Bravia lcd's only . For the price , i recommend this unit to everyone .
      • 068 4  I bought this system used and once it arrived boy was I pleased . I have the system in my living room area which approximately 20 x 15 , and the systems THUMPS ! I could even hear it upstairs in my bedroom with the door close and in my garage on the main floor . Overall the system is great , its perfect if you have a SONY Bravia TV so that you can Sync the two products . . . . . I'm still working on purchasing the 46 Bravia TV
      • 090 4  could not have been easier to set up . the sound is awesome . . . . . . I used an optical cord from a blueray player to the receiver input and an HDMI from the blueray to the 1080 HDTV . this thing shakes the room ! You will hear some of the smallest sounds recorded in the video . This was a VERY good choice . . . . and thanks to the other reviewers that recommended it . That helped with my decision to buy this one .
      • 091 4  I installed this Dec . 24th , 2009 . It has easy hook up out of the box and color coded plugs and wires with instructions that are colorful and easy to see and follow . I used the optical audio port and the HDMI port to ensure the highest quality sound and video . I also added a blue-ray player . I was impressed at the quality of the dvd picture the Sony delivers ( 5 cd's worth ) and the sound was far better than I had hoped . The FM radio is nice . The remote control is something that you may need to play with to get used to . The speakers were light to me but the sub-woofer was fairly heavy . Whatever Sony did , they did it well because I have hardwood floors in a room 20x20 , 10 foot ceilings , and a large archway in the back that doesn't hold the sound in the room . We heard everything and with a clarity that rivaled theatre sound systems and bass that was solid but not resonant . It really rounded off the quality of the full range of sound .
      • 105 4  I am someone who is very picky about how their home stereo sounds and this one is awesome ! For the price this setup cannot be beat . Only two things that bugged me , number one it does not seem to like some burned dvds and second it wont let put in a new cd / dvd while one is playing . You have to stop whatever song you are listening to while the tray prepares to load the new one . All in all a great value with clear sound , and great bass .
      • 141 4  I bought this to compliment my Samsung HTDV , which has a great picture but terrible sound quality . I have to say that I am very impressed . I went with Sony over Samsung , based on reading many great reviews of the Sony system . It was easy to set up ( about 1 hour ) and the only part I needed to buy was a digital optical cord ( about $20 ) . The sound is amazing , deep base and crystal clear . I was a little worried that the back speakers might not work but so far I haven't had any problems . For the $ this system can't be beat .

    • 125 4  I was looking for a home surround sound system that would compliment my Sharp Aquous LCD TV , since why have a nice TV and not have a good sound system . So , I was doing some research and trying to find a quality system within my budget . I found a couple of systems that had wired back speakers that could have worked , but I really didn't want to run the wires . So , I came to the conclusion I'd search for wireless back speakers and found this system . The back aren't completely wireless , though , since they have to plug into an adapter . However , I was able to hide the adapter very well next to my couch and had enough wire to reach my back speakers placement . I've also had no problems with the back speakers , no buzzing , no interference with other devices , etc . . . So , it was a success . Also , the sound quality is superb for my use , mostly watches movies . If you want to listen to the cable , you need to buy a digital optical cable , which you can find anywhere . Research though and you can find some really cheap that work just as well . The ONLY negative on this system is that it isn't compatible to play my iPhone . It'll play an iPod great , but that's about . In all , this was a great product , great price , shipped super fast , and super easy to set up !
      • 075 4  I bought and set this up for daughter / husband and it worked just fine . I and they really liked the wireless feature and the ipod dock - it works fine with an iphone also . I also bought a universal remote which makes coordinating the TV , DVR and this system much easier . The sound is terrific for what this system costs .
      • 085 4  I honestly don't think you can beat this system for the price . All the wires are color coded , which made it so easy to set up I didn't even need the instruction manual ( and I'm not exactly savvy when it comes to this stuff ) . So far the sound is terrific when watching TV , playing video games or using the iPod dock . I don't use the DVD player so I can't comment on that , but the fact that you connect it directly to your televisions output makes it easily compatible with all your devices . Its sweeet ! Also , I used the free shipping option and I still got it in about 3 business days
      • 134 4  Great surround sound system for the price . What is the need for sound systems costing so much more ? I have a Bose sound system for my other TV and I have to strain to hear the difference .
      • 210 4  We bought this at Amazon.com a / c the great price . The delivery went smooth . Setting up the system was a bit of a challenge . We had to buy extra cords , and the back speakers were not exactly wireless as they stated them to be . Had to run the wire through the basement ceiling ( and drill into the woodwork ) to connect both speakers on opposite sides of the room , It was a hassle . We still have not figured out how to use the SSound with just watching TV programs that are in HD / SSound . . . not clearly explained in the book . Sound is great while watching DVD Movies .

    • 138 4  It took me about an hour to have the entire system set up and then another 10 mins to complete the quick set up . Not bad at all if you ask me considering the first thing I did was watch a two hour movie . I've only had the system for two days , but I absolutley love it . The reciever has a fiber optic in for HD sound and although it does not support the Blu-Ray format the 1080P upconversion on regular DVDs is close enough to have a beautiful home theater experience . I have a Sony TV that the system goes great with . You can listen to the radio and the rear speakers are wireless ( wires run from the speakers to the S-Air reviever that you place in the back of your room . They still require wires , but you dont have to run them across your floor , you can keep them virtually out of sight ) . Overall a great system for the price .
      • 051 4  Hook up and install took about 30 minutes because of the packaging but the DVD setup made it easy to get synced and up and running . The first movie I watched was amazing and the sound was far superior than expected . The rear speakers make you feel like in a theater or better yet in the movie ! Well worth the money .
      • 171 4  Very easy setup and sound quality . The S-Air is also easy to setup . The mic calibration helps you to configure the sound ! Very nice sound equipment for home theater !

    • 163 4  I have a sony bravia and heard this was easy set-up . It really was , color coded and everything . Works well , enhances movies , like the unit overall .
      • 187 4  Easy to set up , clear instruction , good surround sound system , and good quality for the price . I give it 4 1 / 2 stars .

    • 173 4  I received the package as said by Amazon . The only drawback is that I didn't hear the knock on the door and they didn't call me when the package arrived so I would know to answer the door . If you live in a bad neighborhood before you'd know what I am talking about . Opening the package was a breeze and everything was nicely put together . There is a one page directions for easy set up and that is all you need folks . I hooked it up with my Ipod and color coded all the wires which is amazing because I remember doing that myself with older stereos . The speaker stands are nice too . Turning on the system is easy as the setup and the surround sound is amazing . Sounds great in a room or living room . Ipod and Ipod touch compatibility is a huge plus . This stereo was even less at Fry's Electronics and at Best Buy . I would recommend this to anyone who likes Sony like I do . I didn't want to spend more than $500 for a surround sound system and I got it for $325 which was even better . The wireless hub for the two back speakers is also great . So I don't have to worry about spending more on speaker wire .
      • 006 4  Pros . Inexpensive - sounds way more then it's worth Convenient - The easiest and quickest time I ever had hooking up a system . Everything is clearly labeled , including the wires ! The two rear speakers are wireless and all you do is plug them into the amp then plug in a wireless card and their good to go . If you have room mates and can't be blasting games or movies at night the amp has the ability for head phones . It's amazon prime so It only cost me 3 bucks to have it next day ! Cons . I got this system pretty much for my PS3 and 360 but their are very few inputs only one coaxial and one optical and only one hdmi out . So I have to settle using normal audio cords on my 360 * but other then that it's great . * UPDATE . I did buy this optical splitter and it works fine switching between my PS3 and 360
      • 008 4  First I will say that I really liked how the system looked , and the quality of sound that came out of the working speakers was great . I however had the same problem as others that I could not get the s-air to properly work . I tried the aluminum foil trick , tried to put the amp and main reciever next to each other , switched channels . None of it worked . I found out that there was a part Sony had that would improve the signal by moving the transmitter farther away from the unit away from the hdmi interference . After about two hours with customer service they wouldn't send me one even if I paid for the part . So I sent it back got a different system . Overall I wanted it to work because of the sound and look , just wish the s-air was more reliable .
      • 043 4  This system is amazing . After I hooked everything up , which took about an hour , I had to do a little dance and squeal a little bit with how awesome it is . I tested out the ipod function first and it was amazing . It felt like Apocalyptica ( look them up they're awesome ) was playing all around me . While watching movies I've actually been startled a few times because I thought someone was behind me talking . . . even though there's a wall behind me . . . . Anywho , the price for this thing was great . It's about a hundred bucks cheaper than other places that i've checked . I did purchase a Digital Optical cable and i'm glad I did . Amazon sells one for like 7 - 8 bucks . If you're buying this , it's not gonna break the bank . All the cables were color coded greatly . I ony had to look at the manual once and I could probably only tell you the actual names of maybe 2 cables .
      • 057 4  This system replaced a 15 year old bose system . The sound is wonderful . The set up was a snap , especially with everything being color coded . I had no trouble with the wireless back sound . I am even thinking about buying another one for the basement . You can't go wrong with the system and with amazon . I received it within a few days in perfect condition .
      • 102 4  Just got it on 09 / 15 / 09 Look at customer pictures so , you can see my set up . now I am working to get a bigger Tv tho . . . After an 30 mins of installation and speakers set up I finally got to see and hear what this monster got God ! I don't regret the money I paid for it It took me about a week to decide which brand to get . I even went to Bestbuy and another stores to check the systems but when I tried this one I know it was the one I dont want to specify what the system brings because some others already did I will just give you my experience words when using this system 1 ) Movies : Looks beautiful 2 ) Ps3 : it takes you to another level because you can appreciate every single sound and pixel 3 ) cable box : you dont need to attach anything else other than a optical cable to it that ; s all you will love the system no matter what other people say . note : if you want to test the system sound and image use the star war movie or bad boy 2 ( the shooting part in the beggining )
      • 139 4  i got this system . . . its great . i just need basic stuff like ipod and laptop sound connections . i had to buy a powered subwoofer since the passive one had no level controls . . . its was a lil too boomy . i love the wireless stuff . . . i plan to buy the wireless modules too . good stuff for a great price . : )
      • 226 4  I just got these speakers and the center speakers doesnt seem to work . when pulled into the other port it works . So I concluded either the port is busted or wondering is there any settings which I have to make to make the speakers work . Looking forward to hear from other customers before I return this product . you can email at vnavaroj @ gmail.com Thanks
      • 230 4  Although it took me nearly 6 hours to set up - had 4 people helping , could have set it up in less time with fewer people . Sound is good , although have problem with picture quality changing when I turn on the HOME THEATER ? ? ? ? ?

    • 179 4  I have had this surround sound setup for 3 weeks now , and it works great ! The sound is very smooth and crisp , and it has enough power for the action packed movies when needed . The Wireless rear speakers made setup a lot simpler since you don't have to hide as many wires . The DVD feature also works very well and holds up to 5 dvd's . . . all in all I think this is the best value home theater system on the market . For the price , the sound quality is unmatched . I have owned a $300 Philips surround sound and was extremely disappointed . Sony is the way to go , and the sound will put a smile on your face !
      • 065 4  Very pleased with the sound from this system . I didn't realize how flat the sound from the LG tv was until I hooked this system up . Purchased it for the wireless rear speakers ( works great ) , price ( $363 ) , and brand . Although it took me 2 hours to unpack and set it up , it's been well worth it ! !
      • 184 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) That little main box , is there suppose to be sound coming out of that ? Mine does not have any ! ? ! Aw , I bought it for $388 just two weeks ago , now it's $330 . : - ( . Still a great system though , really enjoying it .

    • 193 4  The best bang for your buck anywhere . This sounds system exceeds performance of systems 4 - $500 more expensive . Buy it .

      • 198 4  Great system easy to hook up and the wireless part is great too as you do not have to run wires everywhere . Bought the system around Christmas hooked it up in about 2 hours great value .
        • 143 4  The quality of this home theater system is great . It took me longer to take everything out of the box than it did to plug and play . Great sound with a great price .
        • 165 4  Easy to setup right out of the box and sound is great , a great starter home audio system .
        • 214 4  Great system easy to set up great sound

      • 220 4  This system had good instructions and was easy to setup . Adjusting the surround sound is automatic . Sound quality is great .

        • > The single tray that holds 5 discs is perfect for me . I can receive 5 hours of audio or movies without having to reload . Best of all is the ability to play Super Audio Compact Disks ( SACD ) . I put on a Ray Charles SACD and it was almost like having him and the backup singers in the same room . > The 6 speakers ( 2 front , 2 back , center and woofer ) are perfectly matched for full sound without a tinny , empty sound . They are not the old big speakers many of us have and are now using for tables elsewhere but small enough to do the job and do it well . The wireless kit was thought to be just a gimmick at first but when I installed it , I was floored at the superb manner in which it performed . It picked up the signal from the receiver and transmitted the sounds perfectly . > The receiver played DVDs better than my older one . The on screen picture appeared so much better and I assume that was the up converting to 1080p ( an element not resident in the older one ) and just better internal electronics . > The auto-calibration is one of the better features Sony provides . If you have calibrated your system without this little device you went through a pluperfect pain . This device is the cure all for that complex and time consuming job . Just follow the on screen directions and bam , it's installed and working for the specific environment of the system's location . > Installation of any system such as this is going to take time . Don't schedule anything during about a 3 to 6 hour stint . Unpacking was no big deal . It takes more time to unwind the speaker wires than to unpack the system . The wires have color coded ends to be sure each speaker is matched with the receiver . The wire ends are bare and that is great ! My old system had proprietary ends which made installation a minor problem . But with the bare ends you can make modifications that you otherwise would not be able to do . It has been said elsewhere that Sony does not want the user to use a spliced connection but without giving us a reason . My specific setup demanded splicing and I did so . It was and is no big deal . Everything works well . Some elements did not match with my needs fully and this is the reason for the less than perfect score : Why Sony did not include Blu Ray is beyond me especially when it is to Sony's benefit to do so . Perhaps there is a pricing point that I do not get but it would have been nice to have had Blu Ray along with the other components of the receiver . Sony's speaker wires are too small even though they work O.K . but with a system such as this one it would not have cost that much more to have included a better gauge wire . Including iPod stuff was nice of Sony but personally I could not care less . I don't have one and right now it is not among my most important needs . I found the exclusion of BlueTooth technology a thoughtless exclusion . So many devices have that technology and this would have been the perfect place for it . Personally , I would have preferred it to the iPod inclusion . I have left out a lot of minor details that would not have added significantly to the excellent performance of this system . They are icing for this great piece of cake . Enjoy ! We do .
          • 001 4  I purchased this unit to complement a Samsung LN52a550 HDTV . Didn't feel there was enough sound from the unit to complement the samsungs outstanding video . Shopped for reasonably priced HTIB units and decided ( despite cautions that most didn't perform ) to give this unit a try . In my wildest expectations I never thought this unit would perform up to its marketing description . Placed in a den of that is approx . 15 x 25 and playing a Dolby DVD , it placed me in a cinema that provides sound effects that truly astounded . I'll qualify this by saying that I'm a audio neophyte but for this sound at this amount of money I am truly impressed . Be aware that this Sony unit is being used with a Samsung HDTV and consequently the transition between DVD usage & HDTV usage ( must change input source ) is a bit bothersome . I found that in order to obtain full surround sound from the unit when receiving audio only from you TV ( not from the DVD ) you must purchase a digital optical cable . Hope I haven't misled any one but if you select this unit I don't believe you'll be disappointed .
          • 003 4  ( UPDATE : I just found out that the S-AIR technology interferes with the wii remote . The cursor on the screen will jump all over the place and the sound on the wii remote will get cut out . It very noticeable playing Super Mario Galaxy when selecting your file on the file menu . So if you own a wii you will be very disappointed . Turning off the home theater or taking out the S-AIR cart on the back of the receiver solves the problem . Way to go Sony . I think you did this on purpose . NEW RATING : 4 STARS . Original rating was 5 stars . ) This Home theater system is great . The wireless system is nearly perfect , so far only a couple of weird click noises , but I have been using this 24 / 7 and it has worked beautifully . The design is really elegant for the price . Before getting this system I tried a Panasonic SC-PT660 5 DVD Home Theater System , the Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX587WC 5.1 Channel Theater System and the Sony HSS360 component system . And this system beats all of them by a mile . Highly Recommended .
          • 009 4  I bought this system and it sounds phenomenal - the S-AIR wireless rear speakers are amazing , and everything was easy to set up . The problem is that the receiver does not have enough inputs . It only has two : one digital optical and one digital coaxial . Since my TV ( Sony Bravia 40 LCD ) only has digital optical out , the digital optical input on the receiver is being used by the TV . My PS3 only has digital optical out , which means if I want to have my home theater system hooked up to my PS3 , I need to unplug the digital optical wire from the TV and plug it into the PS3 - a huge hassle . Now add my HD media player into the mix and I'm constantly moving wires around in order to have sound for my different HD components . I recommend finding a receiver that has more inputs if you have multiple devices you want to supply sound to .
          • 013 4  This is my second surround home theater system from Sony and I am delighted with the quality of video and audio that I receive from this system . • 015 4  This system has some good features . . . it sounds great , it looks good with the piano black finish . . . its easy to use and to install , plus the wireless speakers are great but here's what I think of the little details that makes this thing deserve a 3 star review : 1 . - Its not completely wireless : The front and center speakers hook up to the back of the receiver and then you have a small WIRELESS amplification module ( called SAIR by sony ) that syncs with the receiver and you hook up your TWO SURROUND SAT SPEAKERS to that module . 2 . - I HATE that sony gives you a specific length speaker wire to use . . . what if I need more wire ? Sony uses these colored plugs that hook to the amp . . . so you will end up splicing sony's original cable in order to hook everything up 3 . - THIS IS BY FAR THE MOST ANNOYING . It is a 5 dvd changer which is ok if we lived in 1998 . . . I bought a bluray player and sony decided to add ONE INPUT ( just audio , no video ) to the theater . . . what if you had a PS3 , xbox360 ? you would only be limited by that input which sucks a lot ! . 4 . - Finally , the remote used for this . . . I bought this for my dad , he is 60 years old and If I gave him this remote his head would explode . Thank God I also bought a Harmony one remote . . . Sony could have decided to do a better job designing this theater .
          • 016 4  we ordered this product online due to the predominently positive reviews and we are quite pleased . Install is pretty easy . ( If you have an older TV , run it through another DVD or VCR / DVD combo if you have one . . if you get stuck . ) Otherwise , Sound effects from movies are very good . Music sound is awesome , bass is unbelievable ( but you can turn it down or it has a night mode if you don't want to bother the neighbors . ) I would definatelty recommend the product and buying it from here . You save a good deal of money & sales tax !
          • 021 4  I made an extensive search before buying an HTiB and compared lots of products from different items . Eventually I decided on Sony HDX - 589W.Some one who plans to have it must accept that it is not a high end home theater system with several input and output and detailed settings. In addition to that this is a very useful home theater system which satisfies the owner . Pros : + High quality built material + High Quality Sound + Night option on the remote.Easy to switch an appropriate sound level to not to disturb anybody + Easy setup + Good 1080p up conversion + Calibration mic is a nice feature + Simple and enough configuration settings + Wireless rear speakers easily connnect and have a stable connection without any sound loss or cracking voice . + Ipod dock is nice. You can control your ipod with remote ( volume up , down , skip song etc . ) Cons : - Remote may have a backlight . - Lack of HDMI input
          • 025 4  Just purchased this home theater system ( HTS ) to compliment my recently purchased Sony Bravia 46KDLW5100 LCD TV and my Sony Bravia BDP - 360 Blu-Ray player . All I can say is , WOW ! This was the first time I have ever purchased / owned a HTS and I am blown away . Set-up was easy ( if you can follow simple instructions ) , the sound is incredible , and the system overall looks wonderful . Since I already had a Blu-Ray player hooked up to my TV via HDMI cable from the player to the TV , I decided to run a digital optical cable from the HTS receiver to the TV in order to get sound when watching Blu-Ray movies . It works perfectly and the cord was only 7 bucks or so . * Please Note * You will most likely need to go into your audio settings menu on your Blu-Ray player / TV to adjust a setting or two to make sure the sound is coming through at full volume i.e . I had to go to the audio settings on my Blu-Ray player and switch the BD audio to Direct in order to get the full sound coming through to the speakers . Overall , the system is an incredible value for the money and if you purchase this system , you surely will not be disappointed .
          • 028 4  Bought this to pair with a 52 Sony Bravia LCD TV and couldn't be happier . 1 . Bass is great and sound quality is crisp and clear . Night mode is FANTASTIC ( hit one button and bass and background noise are tuned down while dialogue is tuned up ) - I live in an apartment building and don't want the neighbors angry when we watch movies late at night - above or below . 2 . Have had absolutely no problem with the wireless rear speakers - no cracking , no popping , no sound going out - or anything like that . 3 . Sony Bravia sync is very nice so the Sony TV and Sony system work together seamlessly - including on our cable remote . 4 . Upconverting DVD player is fantastic - watched LOTR Return of the King on it the first night we got it all set up , and the upconversion was unbelievable . . . my boyfriend had to ask me if we were watching a blu ray on his PS3 . Keep in mind that that particular movie was shot with very sophisticated high quality tech so upconversion ( on any upconverting DVD player ) is significantly better than say , Ferris Buellers Day Off or Monty Python and the Holy Grail . When it comes to those , nothing compares to blu ray . 5 . Ipod dock is very convenient . . . love having it right there on the TV stand . 6 . set-up was extremely easy and everything was color coded on the male and female ends of connections . Instructions were clear and easy to follow and included alternatives if you couldn't figure out the first way to do sthg , i.e . if you get lost in the menus it explains another way to do it . 7 . Looks very sleek !
          • 030 4  After weeks of research for an entry-level HTIB , it came down to the Panasonic SC-PT770 and this Sony . I ultimately went with the Sony mostly due to reputation and other ppl's reviews . After setting it up I am disappointed . The sound quality is just not there . Even my Sony stereo system with two speakers rated at 40Watts each did a more adequate job at playing my CDs . While I understand that most ppl use HTIBs to watch movies , the sounds quality is def . not up to what I'm used to hearing from other Sony products . What particularly bothers me is the volume and clarity of the rear wireless speakers . After trying multiple setup configs , I still cannot get the rear speakers to sound more than a squeak . Overall , I'm very disappointed by what I thought would turn out to be a great purchase .
          • 033 4  This stereo is not going to blow you away like many higher-end system will . However , this system will definitely not kill your piggy-bank either . It's a perfect system for the price . Having said that , don't take that to mean this system isn't good b / c it certainly is . If I were to change anything about it I would make it a bit more powerful ( great w / movies like Braveheart , though not as strong w / TV ) and I would make the speaker wires a bit longer . All-in-all , I would definitely recommend this stereo looking for a solid product at a great price . As for Amazon , I would certainly shop again w / them . However , the delivery company used wasn't the greatest ; they actually left the stereo on my front porch for everyone to see , or possibly take . Luckily I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood ; however , even-so , that's just asking someone to take it .
          • 035 4  This is a great product as far as sound quality , and I particularly like in that it combines so seemlessly with my Sony television as well . I wish there were some more control over the bass settings than there seem to be , but otherwise the overall sound quality it very nice , and the wireless rear speakers are great and easy to set up . Here is the only problem I had - I expected it to work more as a receiver with more HD inputs to run then from it to the tv . I had some difficulty setting this up , but here is what wound up working for me . Run all of your items via HDMI cables direct to the TV - so if you have a blu ray player , satellite receiver , PS3 or whatever you run them direct to the tv . Then use an optical cable to connect the tv to this receiver . Your system should then be able to provide the HD picture on the tv , along with the surround sound performance on the speakers . It works perfectly for me !
          • 037 4  Pros : better than average sound quality , easy to set up , everything is color coordinated and well marked for connections , all essential cables are included , they included a microphone for automated setup of speakers and tuning , loud enough for a large family room , includes am and fm tuner and a 5 disk DVD with up-conversion to 1080p . wireless rear speaker receiver ( speakers require provided wires but only need to connect to a single rear receiver that provides good volume and nice sound . Unit has clean looks and displays well . Price . Unit has night time setting which increases speech and decreases background and bass noises ( love this feature ) . Syncs with my Samsung TV so TV speakers automatically mute when system is turned on and also allows the TV remote to control their volume and mute functions allowing me to watch TV and use one remote controller . Cons : could use a bit more mid-range sound , still need to wire back speakers to rear the wireless receiver so there are still wires on the back wall , instructions could be written better but were good enough because everything was color coordinated and well labeled . Unit has only 1 HDMI connector , but has digital sound input along with various other inputs to allow feeding the output sound from most TV directly to the Theater System ( which seems to work rather well as long as the TV has enough HDMI inputs ) . Overall this is a great unit for the price . I would like them to someday have wireless rear speakers that don't require anything but plugging in to the wall for power . Hope they someday build the wireless receiver in each speaker so the speaker wire can be forgotten . I would definitely pay more for that feature . I would buy this unit again .
          • 045 4  The cost , value , and performance of this product is very good when targeted toward an entry level system , for example a small living room in a town-home or apartment , or even for a bedroom setup . The separate rear system makes it easy to setup the system and in general the sound performance is good , keeping in mind the small size / cost of the speakers . My only complaint is that I have not been able to find a way to customize individual settings . For instance , there are built in sound modes , dynamic bass mode , and night mode , but no way to manually setup acoustic properties , balance and fade levels . These minor complaints are readily overlooked given the low cost of the system , ease of usage , quality , and overall good performance . I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this product to friends .
          • 055 4  Pleasantly surprised by how well the wireless speakers work . System was a breeze to set up . I wish it had more inputs , but for the price it's great value . DVD up-sampling is excellent .
          • 059 4  Purchased this to replace a Pioneer system that we thought had been serving us well for 8 + years . I say thought because I didn't realize how little of our Sony V series Bravia TV we were taking advantage of . I maybe the last person to figure this out , but the upscaling of DVD content to the full 1080 of the TV . . . WOW ! Sony Bravia : If you have a Sony TV , then it getting a Sony HT makes sense . The integration between the two units is fantastic with combined control from either remote as just one example . I also like that if I turn the HT on and the TV is already on , it switches to TV / Audio as the input , and immediately sends the sounds over the the HT and mutes the TV . This is without hitting anything on the remotes . I'm still playing with the one touch play that is possible with the Bravia Sync . Perhaps some of this works with other combinations assuming HDMI is used . SAir : This unit has the remote rears and I was afraid they wouldn't work with all of the wifi going in our house . Between two iphones that are on wifi when in the house , a HTPC sitting behind the TV on Wifi , Wii and two computers on Wifi , the SAir had no problem getting and keeping the signal . It's great to have the rear speakers without the wires going across the living room . Why Wait : I have been looking at this unit since it came out and was ready to pull the trigger locally but they were all sold out since the new Sonys are on the way . Once I saw Amazon still had them I tried to convince myself to wait for the new units , but decided it made no sense . To get essentially the same feature set with wireless rear speakers using the same technology you'll spend $650 for the new Sony . Yes , that comes with a Blu Ray player built in . For me , that is a huge premium to pay for a Blu Ray . I'll grab one of the new Sony Blu Rays with built in Wifi later this year when they come down to get the Iphone remote and online content and still be $150 to $200 ahead . Setup : Was what I expected . Lot's of wires between all the speakers and HDMI and audio lines etc . Manual is vague on what all of the settings mean in the setup screens . Con : My only complaint is that the display screen is very difficult to read from across the living room . This makes it difficult to read which function is selected . I'm sure I'll get used it or recognize the pattern .
          • 060 4  This HTIB system is a great entry-level system with great sound quality for the money . Pros : Easy and quick set up right out of the box ; Configuring speaker levels automatically with an included mic is a nice feature for people who cant be bothered to do it manually ; 5 - disc DVD player changes discs reasonably quietly , doesnt seem to distract too much between showings ; Wireless rear speakers are nice when you aren't sure where to put your couch ; The price is a bargain if you can find it under $300 . Cons : The front speakers are very large and may not appeal to some ; The 5 - disc upconverting DVD player is nice , but has no inputs for additional components like game systems , which means the only thing you will hear in surround sound is your DVDs ; Personally , I didn't notice much improvement over the picture quality of DVDs played on my Xbox 360 . I ultimately returned this item due simply because I already have the very capable Xbox 360 for playing my DVDs , but mainly I want to be able to hear my PS3 and Xbox 360 in surround as well , so I needed a unit with some inputs . In summary , this is a great HTIB for someone who wants to watch DVDs ( or listen to their Ipod ) in surround sound on their HDTV . Thats about all this unit can do .
          • 062 4  I agonized about 2 features : wireless rear speakers and Blu-Ray . I settled for wireless and skipped the Blu-Ray . I had my box unpacked and the whole thing working with my 50 Samsung plasma set , including the included wireless speakers in a little more than an hour and I was not in a hurry and I am no techno genius . I ran the calibration ( very easy ) and was good to go . The wireless speakers are great - - you'll have to understand what this means : in the case of this unit , you have no front-to-back wires , you have a small receiver / amplifier you plug in ( size of loaf of bread ) and to that are connected 2 rear speaker wires which go to the rear speakers - - so back in the back of your room , you have this wired system with one unit that has wires out to the 2 speakers . Perfect for my uses . I was unclear if I would need to buy anything else to make this work and to my delight , I did not . Surround sound bliss enveloped my family and I as I queued and ran Star Wars at full throttle - - everyone had a grin and most of all me as the room shook and space ships whizzed right by us ! ! Subwoofer provides plenty of bass - - probably too much for some if you have the booster on - I forget the name of the feature but something like dynamic bass boost or something but you can turn it off . If you're looking for an easy surround sound upgrade with wireless rear speakers and don't want Blu Ray , this is excellent for that purpose . If you need the super hi fidelity you find in Audiophile magazines , you know that the beginning price for frong speakers is way more than you'll pay for this entire thing .
          • 064 4  The system offers very clean crisp sound quality . I feel the value I got for the money is excellent . The only drawbacks were 1 . ) It took a couple of trys to get the rear wireless speakers communicating with the front . 2 . ) The box advertises a sync feature with Sony tv's that I apparently can't find a use for . The first movie I put in after I got it hooked up properly was Indepnedence Day . It was actually BETTER than in the movies . . my couch is waaay more comfortable and the floors aren't sticky !
          • 067 4  I bought this system cause I own a Sony HDTV and figured Sony compatability would make things easier to work with . It took me about 2 hours to get everything up and running . . . . was a little more complicated than I thought it would be . Everything works : DVD player to TV ; FM tuner ( AM tuner , although I seldom listen to AM is still not working properly . . . tons of static ) and TV surround sound . The only ( and major drawback as far as I can concerned ) is that you have to practically max out the volume on the receiver to get decent surround sound . I have to go all the way up to 32 ( max volume ) and when I go to the middle volume setting ( around 15 or so ) , I can hardly hear anything ! I invited a geek friend of mine over to take a look at the connections . We tried everything : HDMI , component cables , digital optical chord , rca cables ( red / white ) through every possible connectivity and still , the volume had to maxed out to get quality surround sound . I have not decided whether or not I am going to keep this system . I have been to other people's homes where mid range volume produces great sound .
          • 071 4  I had no problems hooking this up to my Samsung 32 ' LCD HDTV . The sound was great and the bass was perfect . The only problem I'm having at the moment is I cant get surround out of my xbox 360 ( i do have a digital optical audio cable hooked up ) Half the reason i bought it . All in all a great system .
          • 089 4  Great system with fantastic sound for the price , very versatile for music , movies , and HDTV . The features balance out a bit , because the rear wireless speakers and the iPod dock are amazing ( you can control your iPod with the Sony remote ! ! ) , but there are no HDMI inputs . To use a game system , Blu-Ray , or cable box you have to have multiple inputs on your TV with an optical audio out rather than using an HDMI . It all works great , but takes some time to figure out . Comes with a calibrating microphone so you can get optimal sound with your setup , which I think is a cool feature . If you're just looking for an audio receiver , this isn't really the product for you , but if you're looking for a multi-use entertainment system it's fantastic .
          • 097 4  I found that the setup was easy with the built in software . I use it with a Bravia Flat Screen TV and use the fiber cable from the TV to the amp . The remote control does not intergrate well with the TV and the TV remote does not integrate well with the sound system . Add to the mix a Comcast cable box remote and it takes some sleuthing work to figure out how to make the Comcast remote turn both the TV and Sound system on / off and to change channels and adjust the sound . The key is to figure out how to program the Aux channel on the Comcast remote on a key by key basis to control the sound system . No complaints about the sound quality . The wireless rear speakers do not interfere nor are they interfered with by other wireless devices in the house .
          • 106 4  I researched and viewed surround sound systems for weeks and weeks . I went to stores , priced them out , compared Samsung's to Sony's , and Wal-Mart's to Best Buy's . I did my much needed research before actually picking the #1 rated Sony surround sound system on Amazon . First off , let me say this ; out of all the reviews I read I never found the answer to this question before actually pulling it out of the box myself . You are NOT able to use these speakers on a different receiver . Sony uses plastic ends on their speakers for easy set-up making these speakers un-compatible with other systems . ( I am not saying you can't just strip those off , but you will be unable to use them with this system again when you do ) . This also means your own speakers you have at home will not be able to hook up to the system this comes with . That being said , you do get a very very nice all-in-one package , but you are not able to upgrade later with better or bigger speakers or a new receiver . Past that , everything in the box seems to be very high quality . Sony does put quality into their speakers , and puts a ton of punch in a little box . I am not a guru on surround sound or anything like that , but I was easily able to get everything set-up and working quickly . The S-Air function seems to work perfectly fine in my household . I didn't do anything fancy , I just did a auto setup , and it worked fine . Also , I found if you actually read through the handbook that came with it , you are able to adjust the volume of each speaker individually based on your preference and taste . After feeling assured that a lot of the negative reviews I read was not an issue here in my home , I went on to the main ( and final ) issue I was worried about ; The fact there are not many outputs or inputs on this device . I was worried about this , because I have a PS3 , 360 , Wii , heck even a SNES hooked up to my HDTV and wanted everything to play out of all my speakers . I read the manual a little bit and my problem was solved instantly . If you have an Optical Out or Aux Out on your TV , the surround sound system will work with all devices hooked up to the TV . This meant that my PS3 , Xbox 360 , the TV itself , and even my SNES all work out of my 5.1 . This was my only other concern when buying this system , as I was worried about not enough inputs . * * Also , I did test my bluray movies on the PS3 by directly hooking up the PS3 to the TV , and the TV to the System . It sounded just as good as if I just hooked it directly to the sound system itself * * Overall if you are just jumping into surround sound , and you want an all-in-one theater experience from the get-go this is the system for you . It will make your room sound like a movie theater if you want it to , and it works perfect in the night mode if you don't want to disturb neighbors . If you are going to be planning on upgrading to bigger speakers , or a bigger receiver than I suggest maybe looking elsewhere . I think anyone would be happy with this system at under $400.00 .
          • 111 4  I really like the wireless feature that allows the two back speaker be connected wirelessly . Just it does not seem to have enough power to give a satisfied volume level for my not-large size living room , even I have turned it to the max level . The DHMI cable interferes with my HDTV channels . I don't know if it is the TV problem , or the cable , or the DVD player , though .
          • 127 4  I bought this system to go with my Sony Bravia HD TV and it works great . Great sound for the price and it integrates well . The Sony remotes are automatically configured to interchange with each other . S-Air works great in our basement with no interference even though I have 4 PC systems , wireless internet , cordless phones , printers , lighting and a bunch of other electronics in the same room . AM radio gets a little interference is all . Great bass , I love the night mode ( it cuts down the vibrarions through walls ) without altering the bass frequency spectrum . There are a couple limitations , which I think are minor in comparison with the main features . Most noticeably , it doesn't have graphic equalizer control , a little slow to boot up and read DVDs and CDs at first , and it doesn't play continuously on to the next CD even though you can put in multiple disks . These are easy tradeoffs compared to the other features it brings to the table . I also believe that nearly all of the problems that some other reviewers complain about are only because of improper setup or not understanding how the system works . Once you get things set up right , the system behaves quite logically . Integrates beautifully with my Sony TV and Sony DVD-VCR system and I can control everything from a single remote . Most impressive is the sound , you can hear the full frequency spectrum clearly without having to crank up the volume . Look and feel of a more expensive system . The upscaling of regular DVDs to 1080p is great .
          • 145 4  I bought this Sony theater system for my daughter who bought a Sony Bravia LCD a few days earlier . I received the package the day before Thanksgiving . I brought it over to her home on Thanksgiving day connected it to her LCD , set it up and it worked great . She is very pleased with the sound quality and the styling of the components . I'm very pleased with the quick response I received when ordering the system from Amazon.com . I ordered it two days before I received it with free shipping . I really didn't expect to receive it before Thanksgiving day - but I did . I'd recommend this Sony system to anyone . Joe
          • 151 4  This was my first purchase from Amazon . I was very hesitant due the very low price compared to other electronic dealers . I received the Sony home theater very timely and in perfect shape . Took some time to set up and a couple of cables not furnished required a trip to the store . Once all set up I put in the CD supplied for setup and everything worked great . I then put in a movie CD that wasn't that great but had surround sound . Just the awesome sound made the movie great . My only complaints . I contacted another electronics dealer with questions about the system . They didn't know anything about the system . Sent an e-mail to Sony . Even Sony did not know that this system has an AM / FM tuner . I would highly recommend this home theater . I am also now an Amazon fan . Good service from my computer to my front door .
          • 152 4  Overall observations : The unit was well packaged and easy to assemble . The cables were more than adequate in length for my installation . The wireless surround hooked up easily and has worked flawlessly in the same environment with a computer wireless network and multiple cordless phones . The room calibration mike setup works Ok for a first pass . My room is not an ideal sound environment but the setup menu will allow you to tweak the setting to your taste . If the bass is not loud enough , go to the setup menu and kick it up a few db ! My setup is using a Sony Bravia TV , all sound through the home theater system , HTIB cables , opto cable . Pro : I like the fact that this unit has AM / FM / ipod / DVD / CD and surround sound all in one unit . You should invest in the HDMI cable and the opto-cable for sound from your TV . I have not detected any distortion in sound but I'm not one to use high sound levels either . Clearly enhances TV and is quite acceptable for CD music . DVD's are quite impressive ! Haven't tried the ipod yet . Con : Because the unit has so many functions ( good ) , it's very confusing to get it operating on your desired mode ( bad ) . The unit does not have a direct command , for instance , to go to FM mode . You must turn it on and repeatedly push the FNCTN button to cycle through AM / FM / DMPORT / DVD / TV-Video . And while the mode is displayed on the front panel I find the display very marginal . It's angled up and sitting across the room it's very difficult to read . My major complaint with the system is nearly universal for this type of product . Trying to make it very simple to switch all the inputs ( TV input , sound system input ) for watching a DVD , or TV , or FM , etc . I went through several universal remotes , finally settling on the RF - 20 ( see separate review ) . I was so concerned about the ' automation ' of the setup that this made the final choice of the Sony system due to the ' Bravia Link ' which is advertised to communicate from TV to the sound system . BE AWARE , if your Sony TV was manufactured before about 2006 , it probably doesn't support this feature . You can check Sony's web site to confirm . Because my TV did not support this feature I can't comment on how it works and whether it would address some of my concerns . All in all , I'm quite satisfied with the system . If it had dedicated commands to setup modes ( or a much improved panel display ) , I would give it 5 stars .
          • 157 4  For the price , I am blown away at the sound quality this system produces . I have it set up in a 15 ' x 20 ' living area & it fills that space & more with rich , full sound . Setup was a breeze also . The wireless speakers work perfectly , no distortion or dropped sound . This unit works flawlessly with my PS3 . I have it hooked up to my 46 LG LCD hdtv , but they work very well together despite being different brands . The only issue with this unit to me is the lack of inputs . For the price & sound quality though , this is not a hassle to me .
          • 159 4  This is my first Home Theater System purchase and I love it ! I was considering the Panasonic SCPT670 , but I heard there is a common issue with it so I turned to this one . The only problem I am having with this system is that it only has one Input , a coaxial and digital . I had to buy a digital cable along with this system to be able to have surround sound with my PS3 and XBOX360 . But I can always buy a better receiver that has multiple inputs for convenience . Other than the single input , everything is perfect ! . If you are considering on buying a Home Theater System , I highly recommend this one . Pros : + Good sound quality + Wireless rear speakers + Easy setup , very intuitive + Sleek and stylish + Comes with an iPod dock , most HTS don't come with one Cons : - Only one input
          • 178 4  Sony Bravia Home theater is one of the best sound Systems on the market , with such a good price who could go wrong . I am so glad I purchased this sound system it has fantastic sound like being at the movies .
          • 181 4  Let me list the problems I found with this system which are not highlighted by others : This home theater has very good sound quality when playing DVDs but when listening to Cable box audio thru digital optical audio input the sound levels deteriorate drastically even when the cable box feeds dolby 5.1 input . Its not very user friendly to change the sound modes from the remote as you have to press multiple buttons to select the desired sound setting The most annoying problem with this device is that it always processes optical audio input even you have something connected to the RCA audio inputs ( For eg : gaming console ) . There is no option on the remote to switch from optical audio to RCA input other than physically disconnecting power to your cable box if you have to feed audio from your gaming console . I have a 4th generation ipod and the system plays tracks from it without any issues but it does not display the ipod menu on the TV screen . You can navigate the ipod from the ipod screen alone ( even though you can change tracks from the home theater remote ) . This is annoying as every time you have to change a track you need to go near your ipod and switch the track . A similar system from panasonic ( SC PT760 ) beautifully displays ipod menu on the TV screen . I dont know if this problem exists with other generation ipods too . Sony has not mentioned this anywhere in the manual . Finally the sony tech support for home theaters sucks big time . Dont waste your time trying to call them . They are not of much help .
          • 208 4  I bought this hometheater system just about a month ago , good value for the price i've paid for . Installment was easy , however , to make it operate wasn't . I end up calling Sony service center to set the whole thing up , due to the fact that their manual is not clearly or easily written , it took me about almost an hour . I was surprised to find out that one is not able to open the DVD disk player by using the remote control , you have to physically go to the disk player to press the button . The feature with the surround sound does not go well with the TV cable . Although , the surround sound for the DVD works perfect . I have not tested other features as yet , will give further update later .
          • 216 4  This system actually does pretty well when watching movies in my medium sized living room . I was pleasently surprised when we watched our first video . Menu is easy to follow and room set up could be done by anyone , that easy . My one and only complaint is how dull the sound quality is when listening to music . The speakers pack brightness of any kind and there aren't any adjustments to brighten them up . So I would rate the system very good on movies but sounds like your listening to music through a pillow .

        • Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This is my second surround home theater system from Sony and I am delighted with the quality of video and audio that I receive from this system . There are several elements that I really like : > The single tray that holds 5 discs is perfect for me . Enjoy ! We do .
          • 002 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) ( UPDATE : I just found out that the S-AIR technology interferes with the wii remote .
          • 005 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Pros . * UPDATE . I did buy this optical splitter and it works fine switching between my PS3 and 360
          • 007 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) First I will say that I really liked how the system looked , and the quality of sound that came out of the working speakers was great .
          • 010 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) In another life , pre-divorce ; ) I owned higher end systems over the years .

          • 014 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This system has some good features . . . it sounds great , it looks good with the piano black finish . . . its easy to use and to install , plus the wireless speakers are great but here's what I think of the little details that makes this thing deserve a 3 star review : 1 .
          • 018 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I wanted to upgrade the sound for my 48 Samsung DLP TV .
          • 020 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I made an extensive search before buying an HTiB and compared lots of products from different items .
          • 022 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This system has a very cheap look and feel . Very plastic and lightweight . It has no inputs for external devices other than the included iPod dock and even that does not have an on-screen display so there is no way to navigate the iPod other than standing next to it . That pretty much makes remote control of the iPod useless . The wireless speakers have a fairly large control box associated with it that the speakers must plug in to . Additionally , the only way to hook external devices to this system is to hook them directly to the TV and then hook the TV to the system via optical or SPDIF . This means that you must have adequate inputs on the TV or you cannot hook up anything like a ROKU , PS3 , or cable box . The sound quality is marginal at best . This is very cheaply made system and I would not recommend it for purchase .
          • 024 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Just purchased this home theater system ( HTS ) to compliment my recently purchased Sony Bravia 46KDLW5100 LCD TV and my Sony Bravia BDP - 360 Blu-Ray player .
          • 026 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Edit : If you would like to connect all your components directly then this system is not for you , just get a receiver that meets your needs and then build from there . Very easy set-up , the manual had easy instructions . The speakers sound amazing , the bass was a bit too loud when I first plugged it in , but after I used the auto-configuration with the supplied microphone it was corrected . I had no issues with setting up S-Air rear speakers , when I first set them up , my WiFi router was interfering giving me some pops , but after I changed the channel on the WiFi it went away . The system was also very easy to program into my Harmony One . The DVD / CD player is amazing , five disk holder is very convenient . The best part is watching a movie in Blu Ray , the quality of the sound really shines here . I have a PS3 so that is why I opted out of the more expensive Sony BDVE500W 5.1 - Channel High-Definition Blu-ray and DVD Disc Home Theater System ( Black ) , but if you do not have a bluRay I suggest checking out the linked product , it is virtually the same system with a bluray play integrated , at the moment it is $200 more . Important NOTE : I noticed some confusion about connecting peripherals and a HDTV to this system , I would like to explain how I achieved this buying only one extra cable ( two if you intend to use the built-in DVD player ) . If you have an HDTV and all of your components are already hooked up , it is very simple , use one optical audio cable out from your TV to the receiver and then configure your TV to support 5.1 surround sound , usually in the audio menu . There is no need to run additional optical audio cables from your PS3 or cable box etc , if you are using HDMI to your TV , there is no difference in sound quality . If you are using the intergraded DVD player then you have run a HDMI cable from the receiver to your TV . Again , there is no noticeable difference between HDMI and optical audio , in fact technically HDMI provides better sound . So it only necessary to use one optical cable from the TV to the receiver .

          • 029 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) After weeks of research for an entry-level HTIB , it came down to the Panasonic SC-PT770 and this Sony .
          • 031 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I recently purchased this product after doing extensive searching for a surround sound system .
          • 034 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This is a great product as far as sound quality , and I particularly like in that it combines so seemlessly with my Sony television as well .
          • 038 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This system comes with clear instructions but still takes some time to get up & running .
          • 040 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Bought this to compliment my new samsung 55 LED LCD .
          • 042 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This system is amazing .
          • 044 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) The cost , value , and performance of this product is very good when targeted toward an entry level system , for example a small living room in a town-home or apartment , or even for a bedroom setup .
          • 046 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Simple to hook up , unbelievable sound for movies etc . It is not truly wireless , as advertised . Would much prefer to have seperate tone adjustment options ( rather than auto , music , or movie ) . All in all , a lot of bang for the buck , and well worth every penny .
          • 048 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) For the price the quality of sound and features are excellent . Great quality DVD player , iPod cradle , FM , and AM . The wireless rear speakers are easy to setup and has no static noise .
          • 050 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Hook up and install took about 30 minutes because of the packaging but the DVD setup made it easy to get synced and up and running . The first movie I watched was amazing and the sound was far superior than expected . The rear speakers make you feel like in a theater or better yet in the movie ! Well worth the money .
          • 052 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This was my first home theatre purchase and i wasnt sure if it was the best choice , i admired the samsung for its looks though remembered a previous bad encounter with a Hifi i bought some years back , the panasonic home theatre also caught my attention in the cost range but following reviews , i gave the sony the shot . !
          • 054 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Pleasantly surprised by how well the wireless speakers work . System was a breeze to set up . I wish it had more inputs , but for the price it's great value . DVD up-sampling is excellent .
          • 056 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This system replaced a 15 year old bose system . The sound is wonderful . The set up was a snap , especially with everything being color coded . I had no trouble with the wireless back sound . I am even thinking about buying another one for the basement . You can't go wrong with the system and with amazon . I received it within a few days in perfect condition .
          • 058 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Purchased this to replace a Pioneer system that we thought had been serving us well for 8 + years .
          • 061 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I agonized about 2 features : wireless rear speakers and Blu-Ray .
          • 063 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) The system offers very clean crisp sound quality .
          • 066 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I bought this system cause I own a Sony HDTV and figured Sony compatability would make things easier to work with .

The sound was great and the bass was perfect . The only problem I'm having at the moment is I cant get surround out of my xbox 360 ( i do have a digital optical audio cable hooked up ) Half the reason i bought it . All in all a great system .

I also bought a universal remote which makes coordinating the TV , DVR and this system much easier . The sound is terrific for what this system costs .
          • 076 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I purchased this home theater syastem for $279.99 the day after Thanksgiving in 2009 .
          • 078 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I am so pleased with this unit .
          • 080 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I previously owned a RCA surround system . While the Sony unit is a little more expensive it far exceeds the quality and craftmanship of the RCA system . The S-Air for the rear speakers works perfectly and cut down the wiring that I had to do . The sound quality is superior . I definately would recommend this product for anyone interested in purchasing a surround system .
          • 082 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I bought this home theater system after saving up some money and doing extensive research on lots of different systems . Finally after debating for about 2 weeks . I decided on this one and oh my so glad I did . Everything I play through it sounds amazing whether your just watching tv or a DVD movie or playing a PS3 game or watching a blu-ray on my PS3 ( * Note you will need a digital optical splitter to connect your other devices besides your tv such as a PS3 , PS2 , or Stereo * ) or listening to my Ipod Touch 3rd Generation . I was a little worried about the ipod dock having the correct pin sequence for correct plug and play since they have discontinued this system but it works flawlessly I haven't tried my orignal video ipod with it but I could really care less if it works or not I have everything and more on my new iTouch than I had on my orignal ipod . Now to my next point alot of the reviews rave about the wireless rear speakers this is half true you don't have to run wires from front to back there is a seperate reciever that plugs into the back of the room and you connect WIRES to the speakers and then to the reciever so the speakers are NOT WIRELESS . Thats mostly the reason I bought this system but luckily my couch is backed up to the wall so I am able to run the wires behind the couch but for those of you who have your couch in the middle of your room you may be dissapointed to find out that you have to run visible wires to your rear surrounds . When I build a bigger house I will make sure I buy a system that is totally wireless . Overall this system is great for the price I saw it advertised as high as $799.00 . I would highly recommend this system to anyone it delivers great sound and great bass . I just love listening to my iTouch and feeling the bass from my rap music . BUY THIS PRODUCT ! ! ! You will not be disappointed with the sound it produces . A + + + Get one before they are sold out for good .
          • 084 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I honestly don't think you can beat this system for the price .
          • 086 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) We love our new sytem .
          • 088 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Great system with fantastic sound for the price , very versatile for music , movies , and HDTV .

          • 096 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I found that the setup was easy with the built in software .
          • 098 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Bought this from amazon.com , i like this product so far . It works per spec and was easy to setup and the quality of the sounds is really good for a decent size room .
          • 100 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I chose this system as an economical surround solution for a second living area .
          • 104 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I am someone who is very picky about how their home stereo sounds and this one is awesome !
          • 107 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I bought this specifically because of the wireless rear speakers setup .
          • 110 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I really like the wireless feature that allows the two back speaker be connected wirelessly . Just it does not seem to have enough power to give a satisfied volume level for my not-large size living room , even I have turned it to the max level . The DHMI cable interferes with my HDTV channels . I don't know if it is the TV problem , or the cable , or the DVD player , though .
          • 113 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) If you have never had a surround system before then you will be more than pleased with this product .
          • 116 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I bought these speakers for a great price and they were unbelievably easy to setup . I saw in someone elses review that the sub woofer was too bassy . . . . . . not at all . I love the sound form this thing . The wireless rear speakers pretty much set themselves up . I highly recommend this product if you can get it for under $450 .
          • 118 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I am very satisfied with this system . Very reasonably priced and the sound quality is excellent . It makes watching TV a pleasure and using the HDMI cable makes a big difference too . I am still a believer in SONY . I would recommend this system .
          • 120 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Set up was tedious and the back speakers need their own stands . But it is great value for the money .
          • 122 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I always try to avoid all in one speaker setups , as they tend to be junk . However , with little room , it was this for 5.1 or a large 2.1 set . It's always better sound quality to get bookshelf or standing speakers and an amp , but this . . . The sound isn't actually all that bad for itself . The voices sound a bit muffled , but most of the sounds sound okay .
          • 124 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I was looking for a home surround sound system that would compliment my Sharp Aquous LCD TV , since why have a nice TV and not have a good sound system .
          • 126 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I bought this system to go with my Sony Bravia HD TV and it works great .
          • 128 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I have the wireless as they call . 2 speakers are at the other side of the room in the corners of the ceiling , and i have the towers by my 52 Samsung TV and it is an amazing sound . I am very happy with my purchase
          • 131 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) My husband had been wanting a home theatre system .
          • 133 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Great surround sound system for the price . What is the need for sound systems costing so much more ? I have a Bose sound system for my other TV and I have to strain to hear the difference .
          • 135 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) this was given as a gift . But they love it and it works great if you have a sony T.V .
          • 137 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) It took me about an hour to have the entire system set up and then another 10 mins to complete the quick set up .
          • 140 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I bought this to compliment my Samsung HTDV , which has a great picture but terrible sound quality .
          • 142 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) The quality of this home theater system is great . It took me longer to take everything out of the box than it did to plug and play . Great sound with a great price .
          • 144 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I bought this Sony theater system for my daughter who bought a Sony Bravia LCD a few days earlier . Joe
          • 146 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) The Bravia works excellent in my room 20x23 with a slight offset 10x15 . The assembly was straight forward my wife had it together and connected when I came in.The wireless speakers work great and do not have any trouble with radios or phones or wyfi The only thing we did have to do was set up the speakers in the custom part of the menu to get rear sound up and sides low enough to make the spit work as well , with the speaking not being too low .
          • 148 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) We bought this to help improve the sound quality from our TV and DVDs .
          • 150 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This was my first purchase from Amazon .
          • 153 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I read the review before I made my purchase . Although the system is not 100% perfect like the external input and / or HDMI port could have been more , overall , for a secondary system in my wife's study hooking up with her 37 HD TV / monitor . Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W is just perfect for the setup . The wireless satellite speakers worked the first time when I turned them out and the quality is better than acceptable . The DVD up-scaling through HDMI is terrific . Now , my wife can watch ( or listen to ) TV / DVD / music ( music is either from iPod ( a docking station is part of the package ) or audio input from other devices like her phone - need the 3.5 mm audio cable-not part of the package ) while she works from home with comfort .
          • 155 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I think it was a great deal for the money . I searched for a long time and even looked into getting just a receiver , but for the same price . . . why not surround ? !
          • 158 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This is my first Home Theater System purchase and I love it !
          • 160 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) It is an excellent home theater system . The sound is great . Although it has a passive sub-woofer but still it gives very good sound quality . The wireless rear speakers are easy to set up . All in all a good system for a very reasonable price .

          • 166 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This system provides an excellent surround effect . The only downside to it is it doesn't go as loud as previous systems I've had , but you will realize that it goes loud enough to make your room sound like a theatre .
          • 168 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Easy to set up , awesome picture and sound . • 172 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I received the package as said by Amazon .

I am so glad I purchased this sound system it has fantastic sound like being at the movies .
          • 180 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) Let me list the problems I found with this system which are not highlighted by others : This home theater has very good sound quality when playing DVDs but when listening to Cable box audio thru digital optical audio input the sound levels deteriorate drastically even when the cable box feeds dolby 5.1 input .

We are very pleased with our new Sony Bravia Theater system . I love to listen to my ipod . Sounds terrific ! And the movies . . . . . . just like in a theater . • 207 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) I bought this hometheater system just about a month ago , good value for the price i've paid for .
          • 209 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) We bought this at Amazon.com a / c the great price .

          • 215 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This system actually does pretty well when watching movies in my medium sized living room .
          • 217 4  This review is from : Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W 5.1 - Channel Theater System ( Black ) ( Electronics ) This sound system I bought was good but not good enough for it's price . I regreted buying after I saw my friend's sound system in his house . The surround sound isn't that good . For example you barely hear the back speakers . My friend bought a philips from costco and it's amazing . So far if this one has a better back sound quality then it should be as good .

What a piece of junk . I can't hold a wireless signal to the rear speakers for more than a few minutes . I'm getting vertigo from the sound dropping . Sony was no help . I guess if you live in a rural area with no neighbors close by the 2.4GHz signal is okay as long as you have no other cordless phones or wireless routers using that band . I live in an apartment building and I think cordless phones may be adding to if not creating the problem . I have always been a Sony fan but I wasted my money on this one . I've burned more than the cost of it just trying to get it to work reliably . It just doesn't seem to be able to swap channels very well on the 2.4GHz band . My advice is go wired for this application . . . .

Sound is good , although have problem with picture quality changing when I turn on the HOME THEATER ? ? ? ? ?
