1 . Same old thing . What I mean by this is , although the story has it's differences from other games , it's still basically the same idea . You get to pick your first pokemon from : Turtwig ( a grass type ) , Chimchar ( a fire type ) , and Piplup ( a water type ) . Once you pick your first pokemon in a setup somewhat similar to the Ruby , Sapphire , and Emerald versions , you are off on a journey to basically be both the ultimate trainer , and the contest master . You will meet a new , psychotic evil team , who has the wrong ideas about the pokemon world and such . There is also the same goal of beating the elite four , and the return of that tedious training you must do to get past the gym leaders . All I am saying , is this game will probably be a newer experience to those who are just getting to know pokemon .

First off , long time pokemon gamers may notice they haven't introduced as many new pokemon as they did in Gold , Silver , and Crystal . What's more , they even started intertwining old pokemon into the new games , just giving them different index numbers . Of course , it's hard not to include the old pokemon when many of the new ones are either pre-evolutionary forms , or even evolved forms of them . Cute and cool , but may not cut the mustard . Now don't get me wrong , there are some cool new pokemon ( Piplup , for example , has become very popular among pokemon fans ) . All I am saying is , the game designers seem to be digging in the bottom of the barrel .
3 . The secret base system just isn't as good . Now , I love the Underground ! The prospect of digging for fossils , heart scales , and other rare items appeals to me ; but who here has played the Ruby , Sapphire , and Emerald versions ? In those versions , you can have secret bases in trees , in rock walls , and even in bushes , in any desirable route . This game , not so much . You have to have to create your base somewhere in the Underground . Now , that may not be too bad for some , as you can create it wherever you want , provided you have the drilling tool . BUT WHY DO THE STUPID ROCKS HAVE TO BE THERE ? ! This is what really stinks ; you can't move the rocks unless you capture someone elses flag . I think in order to do that , you have to have Wi-Fi connection , and infiltrate somebody else's base to get their flag . I have dial-up ( because high speed can get expensive ) , and have heard Wi-Fi will not work with it , so I'm out of luck . I'm stuck with the dumb unmovable rocks ( that are always in the way ) , in a base that looks like everyone elses ( except maybe with different decorations ) , that lacks variety in landscaping .
4 . The Poketch ( Another awkward name , but it stands for pokemon watch ) could use a bit more work . It's good if you only have a few things you can access from it . However , when you get more things , you basically have to start tapping the screen like crazy to get what you want . All I'm saying is a quick selection feature would have been nice .
5 . Another annoying rival . Long time pokemon gamers will know the type . Pesky , bothering you at the wrong times , always beats you to the gymleaders even if it seems impossible that he did so , picks the starter that beats yours in type and boasts about it , and is supposedly a long time friend of yours . Yeah , very irritating .
6 . Getting the national pokedex is a bit of a pain . Until you get it , you cannot rely on help from stronger pokemon in a couple of the older versions either .
The Good :
1 . Waaay more life-like ! This game is the most three dimensional of the pokemon hand-held games I have ever seen ! This makes it more life-like in some areas , as it makes you feel you're actually on the ground rather than in a hot air ballon , or something in the air , looking down on everything .
2 . Time is more realistic . This could also weave in with more life-like . Rather than change instantly from day to night or vice versa at six , like in Gold Silver , and Crystal , or not at all ( like the other pokemon games ) , Pokemon Diamond actually has day phases . There is morning , afternoon , dusk , evening , and even late night ! Gameplay is good no matter what time you play ! The game also acknowledges days of the week ( example : Drifloon comes to the windworks factory on Friday ) , though maybe that isn't used as much as it was in Gold , Silver , and Crystal . All the same , it is a better and well-developed system .
3 . They brought back the night guards ! It brings back fond memories of Gold , Silver , and Crystal , to have police men who will only fight you at night . . .
4 . The gyms are better than ever ! Maybe a tad harder than I like , but the traps and stuff don't have a deja vu feel to them . It's a totally new experience !
5 . The Underground is awesome ! I enjoy digging up rare items and spheres ! The only thing I wish to warn is : don't dig to many spheres in the ground ! The older spheres will start disappearing if you bury too many spheres .
6 . The contests have come back with a vengance ! Do you know those old contests in Ruby , Sapphire , and Emerald ? You feed your pokemon pokeblocks in hopes the audience will like how it looks , then you try to outshine the others with moves in a period of four turns on a single judge . Well , that kind of contest is now the thing of the past ! First off , instead of pokeblocks , players must feed their pokemon a food called poffin . It's made of berrys still , but in a different way that uses the stylus . It's like you cook your pokemon's food now . Then there's the dancing , the accessory and poffin accented physical appeal , and rather than one , THREE judges you can appeal to ! Contests are now more difficult , fun , and entertaining !
7 . More trainer card features ! You can actually sign your name in your own handwriting using the stylus on the back of your trainer's card ! You can also shine your badges , which do get dull ! I thought these were interesting and entertaining tidbits of the game .
8 . The poketch is cool ! Yes , I complained about it not having a quick select feature in the bad ; but regardless , this thing is still very cool and useful in the game ! Hidden item ? Throw away the item finder and use your dowsing app ! Forgot where you plant a berry ? Find the locations of pickable berrys with the berry finding app ( that may not be what it's really called ) . Chances are , if there's a feature you want your poketch to do , you will find it eventually .
9 . The new pokemon are cool . There aren't really enough new ones , and the ideas seem to be a bit . . . lacking in a couple of areas ; but still , the new abilities , moves , and pokemon make for new and exciting gameplay .
10 . I believe there are a lot of legendaries . This means more rare pokemon for you ( and a good deal of them are cute ! )
11 . This game is more people friendly . Quite often , you will team up with a character in the game who will heal your pokemon after each battle , and offer his or her pokemon for assistance in double battling format . This is a great opportunity to learn to work with the pokemon that are not yours . The only drawback , is that you will meet two wild pokemon at once . If there is one you want , you can't catch it until you defeat the other pokemon . In addition , your partner will attack every turn not knowing to let up . On these facts , it is better to try and catch pokemon alone .
12 . Animations are included , and there are many good details . This time there are differences between male and female pokemon other than the symbol . These differences are slight and difficult to tell , but it is good attention to detail . On top of that , pokemon animations are included ( example : Starly flaps its wings when you see it ) . Another new good detail is being able to tell how much a pokemon weighs against yourself .
13 . Taking care of berries is easier and more realistic ! Don't recall when you last watered that berry in Ruby , Sapphire , or Emerald ? Well , now you can tell ! The soil actually changes to a light color when the berry plant hasn't been watered , so you know when to water it ! The only challenge that remains is being able to water it several times a day . . .
So , that about raps it up . Overall , this is an awesome game beyond belief ! If you want hours of entertainment , love pokemon , or even just enjoy playing videogames in general , then this is one of the best games you can buy out there .
002 4 After countless spin offs the real deal is here : Pokemon Diamond and Pearl . The Pokemon craze has been around for years . Ever since the Red and Blue versions hit way back , Pokemon has been huge . It's tried and true formula has worked for over ten years , and it's pretty apparent that the formula isn't going to die now . Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are a lot like the Pokemon games that preceded it , but they've really thrown in some good touches here . Still , most players who've been playing since the Gameboy days , or even as recent as the GBA days will still get a been there , done that , feeling . Still , the game is good , addictive and it will keep you busy for hours on end .
As I said , Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have a been there , done that kind of feel . You begin as a rookie trainer in a village , and under some circumstances , you are asked by a professor to go and collect Pokemon data using a Pokedex . On your journey your goal is to collect as many Pokemon as you can and train them to take on other trainers , and to get all the badges from the games various gym leaders , while you've got a rival who is out doing to same thing to prove he's better than you . In addition , there's an evil organization called Team Galactic that has plans for a new world order and to do that they need all the Pokemon they can get . If all this sounds familiar , that's because it is ! It's the exact same formula that worked for the original Pokemon games on the Gameboy , the games on the Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance . The story , of course , is simple and charming , but where Pokemon has always managed to shine most is it's fantastic and addictive gameplay .
Pokemon is actually really strategic and in-depth . That is to say , it requires a lot of thought , and believe me , some of these battles ( especially against the new Pokemon that are introduced in this version ) require a lot of your skill . Battles are turn based , where you select a command and then watch a round of combat . There's a paper / rock / scissors effect here , however . Each and every Pokemon has a type , and some of the attacks they use reflect its type . This makes up what deals massive damage , what deals no damage and what deals just normal damage . Grass may be strong against water , for example but grass is also weak against fire , but in turn , fire is weak versus water . This effect plays through with seventeen and different types , and there is no best type because every type has a weakness . It's because of this element that Pokemon is so much fun to play . Just trying to construct the perfect team will take you more than a day , and with over 100 new creatures to collect , you can form endless amounts of teams . Just catching all the Pokemon alone will keep you busy for well over 50 hours . To add to the effect you'll face several other trainers as well , and you never know what they'll throw at you . Your strongest Pokemon may very well become your weakest in certain battles just because of its type .
The battle system itself is made even simplar by the touch screen . Where as before you were scrolling through menus , battling can simply be done by touching the different options on screen . It makes battling a lot faster , especially because the icons are pretty big . Luckily , there's never really a point where you have to use the touch screen if you don't want to , and battling can still be done the old fashioned way if you so choose .
As with Ruby and Sapphire there are also moments of two on two battles . Usually they come with either two trainers taking you on at a time , and you'll send out the two Pokemon in your top roster , or you'll be with another trainer who will send out his or her Pokemon with yours . It adds to the strategic feel of the game , but the moments of two on two battles are pretty few and far between .
In your journey you'll also receive a nifty watch that works based off the time of your internal clock . This means that much like Gold and Silver , it'll switch between day and night . Some Pokemon come out only in the early morning , others come out late at night . Some Pokemon only come out on certain days . Either way , those itching to catch each and every Pokemon will enjoy this aspect of it .
As I said before , Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have added some new things . The most important new thing however , is how much easier it is to trade Pokemon and battle with your friends . Using Wi-fi on the DS is far better than the various link cables or having to go out and buy the wireless adapter for the GBA . You can battle with people all across the world , and do other things as well , such as trade with them . Of course , in order to enjoy the full benefits of this you'll need the friend code to do it , and sometimes . In order to get the full experience of the online gaming world in Pokemon , you'll need to register friend codes . If you don't you can't enjoy some of the better perks , like being able to talk to a friend using the microphone of your DS as you battle . Still , the combat is enhanced greatly when playing online . If you don't want to play online you can easily connect to another DS and battle it out that way with your friend simply sitting in the room .
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are also full of little secret goodies . There are the legendary Pokemon , Pokemon contests , and of course , even after you've finished the main story there's more to be done . You can transfer Pokemon from your GBA versions by sticking it into the GBA slot of the DS . No matter how you slice it , Pokemon can easily keep you busy longer than several RPGs combined
I wish I could say the graphics and sound are absolutely amazing , but they're really not . For as much fun as this game is , it's certainly not the best as far as graphics go . The same goes for the sound as well . Pokemon has never really been a game you go after for eye-candy , though . There are some moments where some 3D effects come out , but not very many . The sprites are more or less the same sprites they've been using since the Red and Blue versions . Ideally , the game doesn't look all that much of a step up from Ruby and Sapphire , and they were not fantastic looking games either . It's really colorful , but the DS is capable of so much more than this . Likewise , in battle is still as horrible as ever . Fun to do it , but the Pokemon still only flinch to attack , and there aren't a lot of animations going on , and we're still looking over the Pokemon's shoulder . Essentially , the combat engine hasn't changed since the series first outing in 1998 . There are some move animations that look really good , but aside from that it's hard to look passed the simple fact that the game's combat engine hasn't really evolved since the original games came out way back in 1998 . This isn't the original Gameboy , this is the Nintendo DS .
The sound is also no exception . A lot of it sounds really tinny . There are some tunes that definitely sound Pokemon like , but again , it's using old technology on a system capable of a lot more . Most of the sound effects such as the Pokemon's cries are ripped straight from - - you guessed it - - the original Gameboy versions released in 1998 . That's not to say all the tunes sound bad , it's just to say that a lot of what you're going to hear is recycled .
Despite the games graphics and sound , Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are still excellent games . There's a lot more depth here than people think , and a lot of stuff to keep you busy for a long time to come . Even those who are tired of the same simplistic plot and formula will find something great here .

008 4 Pokemon Diamond is the most exciting Pokemon game yet ! There is SO MUCH TO DO . Seriously , there are almost two towns for every gym . That makes Sinnoh the biggest region in Pokemon history . Also , there are lots of great Pokekmon to choose from and a lot of cool legendaries .
While the graphics may not be as good as games like Nintendogs , I think the graphics are as good as they should be . Pokemon is a cartoon and I think the graphics are fine . But I do admit that Game Freak could have done a little more on the battle scenes . The battles look pretty much like Ruby and Sapphire . ( Actually so does the game , but Ruby and Sapphire had pretty good grapis IMO ) I think they could have made the Pokemon move more and that would have created a more I'm there feel .
But that is ot enough to make me lower my rating ! This game is awesome ! One great thing is that you can use the touvch screen to navigate through battles and party Pokemon and item bag ( and trust me , the item bag has expanded , therefore making it even more time-consuming to navigate through ) . This is great for the Safari ame . I don't know about you , but in Pokemon Sapphire I kept accidemtally catching Oddish and that got annoying . It is harder to make that mistake in this game . And now they have day and night again ! Yay !
The game is very easy for me , at least battle-wise , but that's because I've been playing Pokemon for like almost a decade . However , I have gotten stuck a couple of times . If that happens to you don't worry you can just buy a guide for Diamond or go on Google and type in pokemon diamond pearl walkthrough . So , like in every Pokemon game , you are never completely trapped .
Although some of the new Pokemon are a disappointment ( especially Bibarel it looks like a character out of a cheap kiddie show ) in their character design , some look absolutely amazing . Lucario and Torterra are wicked and Pachirisu and Shellos are just too cute . You also have fairly early and easy access to a Pikachu . You can get one after you get four badges , I think . You can find them in the backyard of the Pokemon mansion . Uh wait I mean you can find PICHU there and they are SUPREMELY easy to catch . My personal favorite Pokemon ( so far ) in this game are Torterra , Lucario , Dialga ( dragon / steel ? It's about time ! ) , Crusselia ( looks wise ) , Midrevius ( I know that's not the right name but it's the evolved form of Misdreavs and it's scary-looking but definitely an improvement . Stats are similar to Gengar's ) , and Floatzel ( looks awesome ) . The only real qualm I have about the Pokemon is that there are like three fire-types to choose from : Chimchar ( fire-starter ) , Ponyta ( you can ctach one really early . They aren't half-bad when you teach one Fire Blast ) , and a fire / steel legendary ( or fire / ground . I'm not sure . I do't think I'd use it , though ) . Some might just give up on Fire-types altogether , but fire is my favorite type so no way .
Team gallactic is all right . They are weird . They are more evil than Team Rocket . They mostly use bug-types and he new normal cat Pokemon .
There's also a cool-sounding wireless feature but I don't have any personaly experience with it yet .
To sum up my review , I'll list the pros and cons :

011 4 So far , the Pokemon franchise has been all about perfecting the same formula that was introduced in Red and Blue . This game is no exception . To keep it fresh , they add various gimmicks that in a sense give you a break in the main gameplay . Gimmicks would probably be a bad word to use , because in this generation of Pokemon , it's more like gimmicks done right . The addition of the Global Trade Station , the expansion of multiplayer options ( Battle Tower , Underground ) , transferring Pokemon from older Game Boy Advance versions blend in with the game very well and add enough spice to make this game feel fresh , despite the fact the game formula is 10 years old .
Note that this game targets returning fans of the series . Also , if you are not able to take advantage of most of these features , the game will most likely seem somewhat lacking . So you're going to need a wireless access point and some friends playing the game for the best experience . If you need friends , there is always online Pokemon communities . It's not my style , but it works with a lot of people .
013 4 I own almost all generations of pokemon games ; Red , Blue , Yellow , Silver , Crystal , Sapphire , and Fire Red .
I wasn't too interested in buying Diamond , becuase I figured it would be the same old gameplay . I also assumed it would be just like the lame Ruby , Sapphire , and Emerald games . ( Lame to me , at least , since I am a sucker for the old style ones . ) When Ruby and Sapphire came out , I really hated the new pokemon and plot and thought they were literally slautering the game . I recently discovered Fire Red , which I liked at first because of its similarity to the originals . But after a while , I began to get bored of the same old plot in kanto over and over again , and got tired of Pokemon .
But then , after reading up many reviews on April 22nd , 2007 , I decided to give Diamond a shot . I thought it would be cool to use the touch screen for more advanced play , and connect with players worldwide using Wi-Fi . So I went to the local Fry's store and bought it , because I was just to anxious to see if it would be worth it .
I got home and eagerly ripped the plastic off the game .
After I touched that power button , I couldn't put the game down .
I loved the refreshing graphics and new story lines . And , suprisingly , the new pokemon didn't bother me .
I am now enthralled with Diamond and absolutely LOVE it . It reminds me of the old days , when I got Red Version and anxiously awaited each and every town in Kanto .
I was also very happy to find that the game had not lessened or risen in level of difficulty ; it was still the same great gameplay .
Good job , Nintendo , on yet another great Pokemon game !
And for all you people debating getting the game ; just get it ! You won't be let down .
015 4 The Pokemon series has always appealed to the obsessive in me . Indeed , who can resist a good chase , or the opportunity to collect literally hundreds of Pokemon . Of course , the old games pretty much required that you have a friend to play alongside you , and as I got older , it became more difficult to find people willing to devote a similar amount of effort into the game .
Now , however , with the Nintendo Wi-Fi option , all of that is a thing of the past.Now , one can trade for Pokemon around the country , or even the world . Thus , after a 6 - year layoff , I decided to pick up Pokemon Diamond ( which gave me an excuse to finally get the DS , which incidentally is 1000x better than the PSP that merely takes up desk space in my room ) . And yeah , the obsessive reared its ugly head immediately , as I then bought Pokemon Fire Red , Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Ranger .
But ahem , back to the game at hand . Pokemon is excellent . Although formulaic , it's always been a fantastically deep RPG experience , even without the postgame collection madness . I won't detail the plot , as it has been beaten to death in these reviews . Instead , let's move immediately to the good and bad here .
GOOD :
- Great gameplay . Yeah , the engine is a bit tired , but it still chugs along . I particularly enjoy the fact that it is easier to catch weak Pokemon in the wild with a special Pokeball .
- Good graphics . Although not the best the DS has to offer , with all the other data stored in there , they aren't bad .
- Wi-fi is nice . I have yet to experience any problems with connections or whatnot . It is annoying that some people will cheat you online ( with hacked Pokemon , e.g . ) , but what can you do ?
- National Pokedex . Come one . When they say you can now collect 493 ( ! ) different Pokemon , how can you not resist ?
BAD :
- legendary pokemon . There's not much legendary about them anymore . I mean , there are around 13 new legendaries introduced in this very game . Moreover , many cannot be obtained except via Nintendo events , most of which have yet to grace our fair shores ( yeah , I know there was a Manaphy event - of course , you can get that Pokemon in other ways ) . This has always been an annoyance of mine , but it's particularly bad now . There are three Pokemon that simply aren't ( legitimately ) available at the moment , and another three which require the purchase of other games . The REAL annoyance is that there is no reason for this whatsoever - with a Wi-fi option , Nintendo could make their events available to the public at large . But whatever - Nintendo has always been annoying this way , and it won't change any time soon .
- Underground . Do I really have to mine the walls for hours to find certain fossils ? Does my base really have a bunch of rocks in it that can only be moved if I find another person's base ? Does anyone really have time for this ? A complete dud .
- Pal-Park . Later in the game , one gets the opportunity to migrate Pokemon from older games to their pal-park . This was a great idea . Why , then , do I have to be bothered by its mechanics ? Only six Pokemon can be migrated each day , and then I have to go through a minigame to catch them . Just let me upload them to the PC , for crying out loud !
The last two BAD remarks are somewhat nitpicky , but the first is getting outrageous . When it was only one Pokemon , it was reasonable . But Nintendo has turned their clever little satire about obsessives into a mass-marketing campaign . . . geared ONLY for fanboys . I'm pretty sure that we NEVER got the chance to get Mew in the GBA games , and that's annoying . Hopefully , Nintendo will use their Wi-fi to make events more public , I ain't holding my breath .
And thus , I knock the game one star .
017 4 In the world of Sinnoh , you are a boy or girl starting out in the Land of Sinnoh . As soon as you start the game , you and your friend decide to check out lake Verity for the shiny Gyrados sighting . As you go there , you see no Gyrados , but an old Man and his assistant Dawn or Lucas ( depends on what gender you chose ) . As they leave , you realized they dropped a briefcase . As you guys are approaching it , you get attacked by a couple of Starly ( Mukuru in japanese ) and you open up the breifcase nd find . . . pokeballs . Within the pokeballs are the Fire Type Chimchar ( Hikozaru ) , the Water Type Piplup ( Pochama , Picked him in Diamond ) , and the Grass type Turtwig ( Naeteru , Picked him in pearl ) . At this point is where your adventure starts . You have to take your newfound partner , catch other amigos and make a team to battle against other trainers .
Graphics - 5 / 5 The graphics are definately an update from the old GBA games . Some places , and even a cutscene or two have 3D effects that were impossible to do on the GBA . THey could've probably been better , but I'm happy with it .
Sound - 5 / 5 It has some of the old revamped sounds , along with a bunch of new songs . All of the songs are intereting to listen to , you might even end up liking a few .
Gameplay - There is many things to do in this game . You can battle , as usual , and you can also do contest again , a feature once introduced in Ruby and Sapphire , and again in Emerald . However , they added two other parts to the contests , a Visual contest and a Dance contest . You can dress up your Pokemon with clothes you obtain for your Fashion case , while the Dancing game is a rhythm game . You can also go into the underground to play games with friends or get fossils spheres and stones . Online you can battle with friends , or trade with them directly , judging on if you have their friend codes or vise versa . However , there is a way to trade online without those darn codes . The GTS is a server based system in which you can trade with peopleall over the world , and it is also one of my favorite features .
Overall , there is a lot to do in this game and Pearl . IF you are a pokemon fan , you're probably going to get this game anyways . But if you are looking for a great RPG , a PokeNOOb , or a casual gamer , you should still try this game out . Overall , I give this game a 5 out of 5 ( lol , it sounds like Xplay )
023 4 You've played one Pokemon game , you've played them all , right ? Wrong .
When I first got Diamond , I thought it'd pretty much be Sapphire with different pokemon and better graphics . Well , in a way it is and it isn't . I've found this game more challenging than Sapphire ( thought it's not really hard or anything ) and what is turning out to be longer . I put 60 hours into Sapphire , and it seems on Diamond if I had to guess , I'd say I'll probably put somewhere between 150 - 250 hours on it .
One nice little thing they've done , is you do have some of the old HM moves , but some were taken out and others added . The gyms are a little more thought out too , you still have to get through a puzzle , which they aren't hard , but are harder than they were before .
Now one thing I was happy about , is this game doesn't over use the touch screen , you can use it during battles , but I find it easier to just use regular controls .
Now , onto one of the best features of this game , transfering pokemon via Pal Park from FireRed / LeafGreen / Sapphire / Ruby / Emerald . Now , you have to complete your Sinnoh PokeDex before this , however I have some goods news , you don't have to CATCH them all , just see them all . And if you're worried about seeing the other legendary , there's a woman who shows you a picture of it which adds to your pokedex . And of course you have to beat the elite four , but you have to do that anyways .
All in all , I'd say this is without a doubt the best pokemon game ever .
I highly recommend it , even if you don't like the show ( since I hate the show , but I LOVE this game . )

Cost is steep for myself , but well worth the hours just there to burn .

038 4 This was my first Pokemon game ever ! I saw all the great reviews and rave about the other Pokemon games ( i.e . - Ruby , Sapphire , Fire red , and Leaf green ) , and thought that it might be fun because I like puzzles and storylines . I saw some kids at the park trading their pokemon over Wireless and having a blast , and that's when I said to myself I NEED to get a Pokemon game . I've never been a fan really at all of Pokemon , I used to watch it when I was littler , and maybe collect a few cards , but never really made a hobbie of it . So I decided the first day I got a DS Lite I would get Pokemon Diamond along with it . It was the best choice I ever made ! The graphics are ok , but not nearly as supirior as Nintendogs . The charactors are cool , and so are the Pokemon monsters . It's not frustrating , yet not easy . It's perfect for kids ages 6 - 18 .
I highly recommend this game to Pokemon fans or non-Pokemon fans !
059 4 I'm really amazed at how much game there is in this product . I've only played a couple of DS games , and they didn't seem all that much bigger or better than Gameboy games . Diamond , however , just keeps going and going .
Besides the main story line , there's an underground area where one can go and dig for jewels , play games with others , etc . Then there is the global trading system , where one can submit pokemon for trade to others around the world . Besides that , once you beat the elite four , a whole new set of trainers and pokemon become available to capture .
This game is well worth the price .
063 4 It is a great game ! there are finally 3d graphics and many new pokemon . you still get all the old stuff like contests , the old pokemon , and sex choice .
The one thing my friends and I dont like about it is pretty much the only way you can totaly beat the game is with the guide ( It took me half an hour to find some stupid key ) . If you DO get the guide , the game will be pretty easy . Heck , the only challange will be beating the gymleaders / elite four . But if you have the money for the guide , then the game , and the challenges will be great !
073 4 The moment that I heard there was a new Pokemon game coming out , I decided to get it - - after all , I've been a fan for quite a few years now . When I first played it , I knew immediately that it was worth my while .
Unfortunately , the graphics at first gave me a headache , since I was used to the 2D of my Game Boy Advance . Eventually , though , I got used to it - - as a matter of fact , when I played Pokemon FireRed again after some time with Diamond , I found the older game's graphics to be somewhat disconcerting !
As for the storyline - - it's the same old , same old . You get one of three starter Pokemon and go off to defeat the Gym Leaders and become the Champion while defeating an evil organization . Even so , the storyline doesn't seem so bad when you learn of the hundred-or-so new Pokemon and moves .
The music is just as good as before ; the surfing theme is one of my favorites , taking away much of the boredom of surfing ( because it is now much slower than before ! ) .
One thing that I didn't particularly like was the Pokemon cries - - they are very complicated and sophisticated , but comparing them even to the cries from Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald makes you realize that they're much different , and that leads you to wonder : why would newer Pokemon sound so much different ? I don't think that the cries should be equal to the regrettably cheap-sounding cries of Red / Blue / Yellow , but they simply sound almost unfamiliar !
All in all , taking into consideration every bit of this game , I still give it top marks - - I might be prejudiced , given that I love Pokemon , but I believe that it's still a very good game .
090 4 I've been playing these games since Red and Blue first came out and it's amazing how far along they've come . It has gone from a flat one-color world with minimal details to a 3D full color world with GREAT details . The graphics really pull you into the game . The only thing I'm not to fond of is the battle graphics . I was never happy with just seeing the pokemon bounch back and fourth and then see the other pokemon blink indicating a hit . In previous games ( ex . Game Boy , Game Boy Color , and even the Game Boy Advanced ) it was understandable because you can only fit so much data on those cartridges . However seeing how much more data and better graphics is able to be put on these even smaller Nintendo DS cartridges I kinda wish they started working on better battle animations . Like I said , they still just bounce around and blink or glow . . . . nothing all that entertaining . Now if their attacks actually interacted with each other THAT would be much more entertaining . To me it gets kind of boring ( especially those long drawn-out battles that you don't think will ever end ) just watching them stand there doing nothing when their attacks look much cooler in your head than in the actual game .
Gameplay follows the traditional pokemon gameplay . You start off choosing one of three starters ( water , fire , grass ) however the way you end up choosing your starter is similar but still a little different than how you end up choosing your starter in Sapphire , Ruby and Emerald . There are a lot of similarities between Diamond / Pearl and Sapphire / Ruby / Emerald . Enough for you to be familiar with some things and not feel completely lost . However there are PLENTY of new things to keep you suprised and keep the game new .
If you've played any of the older Pokemon games and liked them I strongly recomend getting this one .
098 4 Storyline isn't really new . You start out in a town . Meet your rival . Deliver a package go back get your pokedex and given a quest to fill the pokedex .
But what is nice is the additions . Like how they have brought back the time factor back into play . Also love the wi-fi feature . Finally you can battle against others online , and the capture the flag game is fun as well .
Nothing is really drastically new from the other games , but as they say . If it isn't broken don't try to fix it .
100 4 I wish there was more ' to do ' after you beat the elite four - compared to fire red / leaf green , there's really almost nothing to do other than fight other people online ( which I'm not a huge fan of ) and grind through the process of catching ' em all . I also actually prefer the 2D version over the 3D - I don't really think it adds much , and it actually plays a little slower / sluggish . That's why only 4 stars in fun .
Still , the single feature of the global trading network puts this over the top - having pokemon from all over the world is very cool .
102 4 I've been addicted to pokemon since the beginning , around 11 or 12 years of age . Pokemon Diamond and Pearl rejuvinated my fading faith to pokemon like no game had since silver and gold .
Positives :
The new game is innovative and definitely exercises the use of the touch screen better than most games have for the DS . While technically you could play the game without it , the touch screen makes battling go without a hitch , especially when you have the reserve stylus ' . For whatever reason , they were much more comfortable for use .
The new collection of pokemon is great , although often times on the corny side . Dialga and Palkia definitely do the game justice , while Drifloom and the like seem like nothing more than desperate grabs at new ideas to fill up the pokedex . Either way , the majority breathe new life into the game .
The wireless battle is a definite plus , since you no longer have to buy ( and lose : P ) a game cable . The option of trading world wide in the GTS is also an excellent feature if you're looking for a pokemon and have the patience to wait for it . Both features make the entire game much more accessible for kids and adults alike while not exposing kids to internet threats .
The new pokedex features simply amuse me to no end . I've spent countless hours just browsing through it , comparing male and female pokemon , playing with the pokemon noises , everything . The sprite work as always surpasses every expectation , now with excellent little animations .
The backpack was excellently upgraded an no longer requires extensive browsing whatsoever and even makes use of the stylus ! Items are arranged easily and without hassle .
Negatives :
Please note that some of this spoils surprises , kiddies .
The majority of the legendary pokemon are nearly impossible to obtain due to nintendo limiting their ability to be captured by means of nintendo events where specific items are given to players that attend . To date ; no one has legitimately caught the ultimate pokemon in the english version of the game and very few have been able to obtain such pokemon as Shaymin and Crescelia . The only way to do so is to cheat , which runs the nasty chance of ruining your game . In a nutshell , as of right now , it is impossible to complete the pokedex .
The surfing ability and many of other game speed features are terribly slow , much slower than in previous versions . Battling , while sped up with the touch screen feature , is quite lagged from previous versions as well and just seems to take much more time to complete , especially with the new addition of ( sometimes long ) character animations .
The new pokemon sounds are great , but as for the original 350 or so . . . not so great . Gamefreak and nintendo played the lazy man's card and used all of the old pokemon noises instead of giving them a new age voice .
I , personally , expected a much broader map of terrain to explore , maybe incorporating the old maps such as kanto and johto and being able to get 16 , 24 , or more badges . . . very disappointing .
Overall :
The game is excellent , though a little disappointing for us old poke'fanatics . Despite the few let downs , this game make an excellent addition to the pokemon line up .
109 4 Compared to the other Pokemon games in the series , I feel that Diamond and Pearl are relatively lack-luster .
This group in the series does introduce several new features to the Pokemon Universe ( namely online battling and trading ) , and the storyline at least attempts to be epic . But the selection of Pokemon available to the trainer is relatively limited unless they're willing to put in a lot of extra effort in not only this game and the ones preceding , but other non-traditional Pokemon Games .
The bulk of the Pokemon encountered in tall grass consist of perhaps a handful of common Pokemon that become extremely annoying ( Starly and Geodude are probably the most notable . )
And encountering other pokemon in-game practically requires a schedule to remember what pokemon are available when , and in what zone .
My biggest disappointment is that a lot of Pokemon can only be obtained AFTER beating the Elite Four , by swarm , GBA cartridge transfer , or GBA cartridge insertion . You essentially have to act as a Pokemon Breeder to get Pokemon to learn certain moves , as well .
It's simply too much of a headache to bother with trying to get any of your favorite pokemon in Diamond and Pearl without Heart Gold / Soul Silver . It often takes too much time , too many other games , and too much breeding to be worth it .

174 4 The kids have several versions of the GBA cartridges that they play on the DS and are delighted to have a DS version so that they can play each other natively .
Only two things I can offer as cons : D & P are hard to discern among non-experts . The user uploaded images show a special Dialga / Palkia stylus for each version . Perhaps these were included in a limited edition release or sold separately , but the two I purchased recently did NOT come with it , so don't expect , or better yet , DON'T SHOW THE KIDS THIS PICTURE . . . you've been warned ; )

You also get the advanced ability to trade via Wi-Fi , you can import your old Pokemon from Ruby , Sapphire , and Emerald . Also this game is HUGE ! They have finally done it , added the National Dex ! ( Though they had it in Emerald it wasn't very good ) Every single Pokemon has a space in this new Dex . The boring look of the old Pokemon games is gone , now a new true 3D look has been brought on the game . The angled birds eye view is much more detailed and comfortable to look at .
TONS of legendary Pokemon populate the land of Sinnoh , get the game and get them all !
184 4 Pokemon Diamond is the newest pokemon game in the long running series that has been on every nintendo handheld since the game boy.In Pokemon you start off as a boy or girl and your job is to fill your pokedex ( a devise that records data on the pokemon you see and catch ) for professor rowen and become the pokemon league champion.Of course while stopping the evil team galactic form taking over the world .
Adding all the great features form the past games like Day / Night Time , Double battles , National Pokedex , Pokemon Contests , and the Battle Tower .
Plus adding some new ones like the underground where you can dig up fossils , stones , orbs and other useful idems to help you on your adventure , 100 some new pokemon , the Gobel Trade Center where over wi-fi connection you can trade pokemon with pokemon fans all over the world , plus online battles over wi-fi and use of the DS touch screen and michphone .
There is so much to do in Pokemon Diamond that you will be playing for hours and hours after you beat the main part of the game.This is a must for pokemon fans .

The Pros :
Very long game , even after defeating the Elite4 and the Champion the game does not end , 4 different features or side quests open to keep exploring and catching new species of Pokemon .
The WiFi feature enable to trade pokemon worldwide , there is also an undergound game where you dig for pokemon fossils , and special stones and crystals also via WiFi where you ccan set fun traps to other online players .
Intresting and long story , many areas to cover and do and see more things more than before .
Double battles with in-game trainers as your partners .
Pokemon Contests : where you perform for audiences and judges , these have advanced and become more challenging than in Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Ruby . Should you win as grand master in all categories you'll have exclusive access to a new area .
You don't have to catch them all to complete the Sinnoh region Pokedex . ( Finally ! ! ! ) ( I mean NOT all players are nice and want to trade ! ) .
More strategic on contests and some battles .
New evolutions for the normal Pokemon Eevee into ice and grass types !
The Cons :
Certain pokemon can only be caught at certain times of the day or on a weekday , a feature that was used in GameBoy Color Pokemon Silver and Pokemon Gold .
The Game Freak developers didn't take full advantage of the DS 3 dimensional capabilities for graphics , all Pokemon still look 2 dimensional and flat as well as the player .
When exploring wild pokemon appear excesively , often after just taking no more than 4 steps , all the time on all wild areas including water .
You cannot trade caught from Pokemon games Fire Red , Green Grass , Sapphire , Emerald and Ruby until you beat the Elite4 and the Champion .
At some point one might HAVE to refer to a players'guide when you get stuck .
Overall : Colorful graphics , highly entertaining , funny scenes with your rival ( who is more of a comtetive friend this time ) . Bouncy adecuate music , tons of new pokemon to catch.A must have for newbie and veteran Pokemon players young , and old like me !

196 4 I got the game on sunday last week ( release day all rigth ! ) at ciruit city and i have diamond , bros got pearl . The only difference is the legendary pokemon palkia ( the pearl cover ) and dialga ( diamond cover ) is only availible on one version . so diamond u get diagla and pearl the palkia . i got 4 of the legendarys today ! ( dialga , and the 3 lake pokemon ) and the only thing left for me to do is beat the pokemon league and elite 4 .
if u do buy remember u need to see the 150 pokemon to be able to transfer the pokemon of previous versions . thats the dissapointing thing . to see those 150 it will take u to beat the whole game , or find someone to mix records with whose seen all 150 .
those who cant read will strugle to beat this game , actually even get to the first of eight gyms , so BEWARE .

Without a doubt , though , the best new feature is Nintendo Wi-Fi . You can battle friends in the same room or across the country . . . and you can trade pokemon in the GLOBAL market . No more having to force your friends at knife point to give up their starter pokemon , nope , now you can put up an offer and someone will respond to it . . . no matter where they happen to be in the world .
What is the difference between Diamond and Pearl ? Not much . . . just the pokemon that you can find in the wild .

There is no difference to the storyline , choice of characters , or anything else . So it really doesn't matter which version you pick it's going to be the same experience and you can always find the opposite versions exclusive pokemon on the global market .

If you're a pokemon fan whether new or old you will love this version . . . even if you gave up on the series after Gold and Silver pick up a copy of Diamond / Pearl , it will drag you kicking and screaming back into pokemon fanmania .

That is the worst thing about this game , is that it's virtually the SAME as it was during Pokemon Blue's debut . However , this would be my only complaint . The game is graphically superior to all other hand held Pokemon's to date . D is still a good game , but could have been a lot better . It deserves 4 stars , but I had high expectations for D and it didn't quite live up to them .
252 4 I bought this for my 9 year old son . Also bought the Pearl edition for my 7 year old daughter . They share a Nintendo DS and are constantly fighting to use it . Each session has to be time-limited , and they act like they're going through withdrawls when they are not playing . But they have to earn playing time through chores and good behavior , which balances out all that fun .
They enjoy talking strategy and comparing the Pokemon they've caught or battled . They've also made it clear that they can trade their Pokemon with each other if they BOTH have a DS . Hmmm . . .
Anyway , if you don't mind your kids being addicted to a good , clean , non-violent video game ( like we were ) , this appears to be the ultimate for now .

I credit the Pokemon franchise with absolutely nailing the RPG with the much younger audience . They've done a fantastic job of creating this never ending RPG that can capture a child's attention for hours at a time . How it can hold the attention of an audience even slightly older ? That boggles my mind .
I really didn't want to write this , and I was actually considering leaving Pokemon out of my reviews , because I want my reviews to be helpful to the prospective buyers . But I guess anyone buying Pokemon knows what they're getting themselves into , and a review of the game would simply be for amusement . People , people , people . . . WHY ! ? I don't understand , I never thought I'd see the day when a DS game broke the $39.99 maximum ( only two games have hit that price ceiling so far , Final Fantasy III , and the Star Trek Game , with a third one coming soon , Zelda : Phantom Hourglass ) . Not only have you wasted money on the game , you defeated the whole purpose of purchasing the game in the first place . . . TO COLLECT THE MONSTERS MAYBE ?
The only thing that kept me droning on and on for that one hour I played the game was the faint desire to level up my Pokemon . I can't imagine how dull it must be to play a brand new game , completely demolishing every Pokemon and Gym Leader that comes your way with your Level 100 monsters . It makes no sense .
And what , wireless play ? How ridiculous is this , a bunch of maxed out Pokemon fighting each other with a maxed out number of items to replenish health so that the battle goes on into infinity .
My hate for Pokemon had grown immensely after seeing that nonsense .
It's not a very good game , the story is lame , and it costs too much . Everything about the game is drab , graphics are dull , the SoundFX suck , and still ! GameFaqs top 2 , DS bestseller , and it ACTUALLY beefs up my collection . That's so depressing to me . . .

I was pleasantly surprised to see how much better this game was than those I had played in the past ! The graphics are much better , there are MANY places to explore , and best of all , with only a DS wireless connector , you can play with people all over the world .
In addition to the challenge of collecting over 400 Pokemon , which alone will take you days on end , there are many other fun activities . There are contests to enter with your Pokemon in which you are rated in various areas , such as visual and dance ( the dance competition is like a mini-DDR ) . You can cook Poffins , which are like candy you can feed to your Pokemon so that they will do better in competitions . You can also go underground , build and decorate a secret base , dig for treasure and play a capture the flag game with your friends .
My only warning is that you will definitely lose track of time while playing , so make sure to keep the digital watch app of your Poketch turned on as often as possible .

Pokemon - Diamond Version ( Video Game )
After countless spin offs the real deal is here : Pokemon Diamond and Pearl . The Pokemon craze has been around for years . Ever since the Red and Blue versions hit way back , Pokemon has been huge . It's tried and true formula has worked for over ten years , and it's pretty apparent that the formula isn't going to die now . Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are a lot like the Pokemon games that preceded it , but they've really thrown in some good touches here . Still , most players who've been playing since the Gameboy days , or even as recent as the GBA days will still get a been there , done that , feeling . Still , the game is good , addictive and it will keep you busy for hours on end .
As I said , Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have a been there , done that kind of feel . You begin as a rookie trainer in a village , and under some circumstances , you are asked by a professor to go and collect Pokemon data using a Pokedex . On your journey your goal is to collect as many Pokemon as you can and train them to take on other trainers , and to get all the badges from the games various gym leaders , while you've got a rival who is out doing to same thing to prove he's better than you . In addition , there's an evil organization called Team Galactic that has plans for a new world order and to do that they need all the Pokemon they can get . If all this sounds familiar , that's because it is ! It's the exact same formula that worked for the original Pokemon games on the Gameboy , the games on the Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance . The story , of course , is simple and charming , but where Pokemon has always managed to shine most is it's fantastic and addictive gameplay .
Pokemon is actually really strategic and in-depth . That is to say , it requires a lot of thought , and believe me , some of these battles ( especially against the new Pokemon that are introduced in this version ) require a lot of your skill . Battles are turn based , where you select a command and then watch a round of combat . There's a paper / rock / scissors effect here , however . Each and every Pokemon has a type , and some of the attacks they use reflect its type . This makes up what deals massive damage , what deals no damage and what deals just normal damage . Grass may be strong against water , for example but grass is also weak against fire , but in turn , fire is weak versus water . This effect plays through with seventeen and different types , and there is no best type because every type has a weakness . It's because of this element that Pokemon is so much fun to play . Just trying to construct the perfect team will take you more than a day , and with over 100 new creatures to collect , you can form endless amounts of teams . Just catching all the Pokemon alone will keep you busy for well over 50 hours . To add to the effect you'll face several other trainers as well , and you never know what they'll throw at you . Your strongest Pokemon may very well become your weakest in certain battles just because of its type .
The battle system itself is made even simplar by the touch screen . Where as before you were scrolling through menus , battling can simply be done by touching the different options on screen . It makes battling a lot faster , especially because the icons are pretty big . Luckily , there's never really a point where you have to use the touch screen if you don't want to , and battling can still be done the old fashioned way if you so choose .
As with Ruby and Sapphire there are also moments of two on two battles . Usually they come with either two trainers taking you on at a time , and you'll send out the two Pokemon in your top roster , or you'll be with another trainer who will send out his or her Pokemon with yours . It adds to the strategic feel of the game , but the moments of two on two battles are pretty few and far between .
In your journey you'll also receive a nifty watch that works based off the time of your internal clock . This means that much like Gold and Silver , it'll switch between day and night . Some Pokemon come out only in the early morning , others come out late at night . Some Pokemon only come out on certain days . Either way , those itching to catch each and every Pokemon will enjoy this aspect of it .
As I said before , Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have added some new things . The most important new thing however , is how much easier it is to trade Pokemon and battle with your friends . Using Wi-fi on the DS is far better than the various link cables or having to go out and buy the wireless adapter for the GBA . You can battle with people all across the world , and do other things as well , such as trade with them . Of course , in order to enjoy the full benefits of this you'll need the friend code to do it , and sometimes . In order to get the full experience of the online gaming world in Pokemon , you'll need to register friend codes . If you don't you can't enjoy some of the better perks , like being able to talk to a friend using the microphone of your DS as you battle . Still , the combat is enhanced greatly when playing online . If you don't want to play online you can easily connect to another DS and battle it out that way with your friend simply sitting in the room .
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are also full of little secret goodies . There are the legendary Pokemon , Pokemon contests , and of course , even after you've finished the main story there's more to be done . You can transfer Pokemon from your GBA versions by sticking it into the GBA slot of the DS . No matter how you slice it , Pokemon can easily keep you busy longer than several RPGs combined
I wish I could say the graphics and sound are absolutely amazing , but they're really not . For as much fun as this game is , it's certainly not the best as far as graphics go . The same goes for the sound as well . Pokemon has never really been a game you go after for eye-candy , though . There are some moments where some 3D effects come out , but not very many . The sprites are more or less the same sprites they've been using since the Red and Blue versions . Ideally , the game doesn't look all that much of a step up from Ruby and Sapphire , and they were not fantastic looking games either . It's really colorful , but the DS is capable of so much more than this . Likewise , in battle is still as horrible as ever . Fun to do it , but the Pokemon still only flinch to attack , and there aren't a lot of animations going on , and we're still looking over the Pokemon's shoulder . Essentially , the combat engine hasn't changed since the series first outing in 1998 . There are some move animations that look really good , but aside from that it's hard to look passed the simple fact that the game's combat engine hasn't really evolved since the original games came out way back in 1998 . This isn't the original Gameboy , this is the Nintendo DS .
The sound is also no exception . A lot of it sounds really tinny . There are some tunes that definitely sound Pokemon like , but again , it's using old technology on a system capable of a lot more . Most of the sound effects such as the Pokemon's cries are ripped straight from - - you guessed it - - the original Gameboy versions released in 1998 . That's not to say all the tunes sound bad , it's just to say that a lot of what you're going to hear is recycled .
Despite the games graphics and sound , Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are still excellent games . There's a lot more depth here than people think , and a lot of stuff to keep you busy for a long time to come . Even those who are tired of the same simplistic plot and formula will find something great here .

Still , most players who've been playing since the Gameboy days , or even as recent as the GBA days will still get a been there , done that , feeling . Still , the game is good , addictive and it will keep you busy for hours on end .
As I said , Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have a been there , done that kind of feel . You begin as a rookie trainer in a village , and under some circumstances , you are asked by a professor to go and collect Pokemon data using a Pokedex . On your journey your goal is to collect as many Pokemon as you can and train them to take on other trainers , and to get all the badges from the games various gym leaders , while you've got a rival who is out doing to same thing to prove he's better than you . In addition , there's an evil organization called Team Galactic that has plans for a new world order and to do that they need all the Pokemon they can get . If all this sounds familiar , that's because it is ! It's the exact same formula that worked for the original Pokemon games on the Gameboy , the games on the Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance . The story , of course , is simple and charming , but where Pokemon has always managed to shine most is it's fantastic and addictive gameplay .
Pokemon is actually really strategic and in-depth . That is to say , it requires a lot of thought , and believe me , some of these battles ( especially against the new Pokemon that are introduced in this version ) require a lot of your skill . Battles are turn based , where you select a command and then watch a round of combat . There's a paper / rock / scissors effect here , however . Each and every Pokemon has a type , and some of the attacks they use reflect its type . This makes up what deals massive damage , what deals no damage and what deals just normal damage . Grass may be strong against water , for example but grass is also weak against fire , but in turn , fire is weak versus water . This effect plays through with seventeen and different types , and there is no best type because every type has a weakness . It's because of this element that Pokemon is so much fun to play . Just trying to construct the perfect team will take you more than a day , and with over 100 new creatures to collect , you can form endless amounts of teams . Just catching all the Pokemon alone will keep you busy for well over 50 hours . To add to the effect you'll face several other trainers as well , and you never know what they'll throw at you . Your strongest Pokemon may very well become your weakest in certain battles just because of its type .
The battle system itself is made even simplar by the touch screen . Where as before you were scrolling through menus , battling can simply be done by touching the different options on screen . It makes battling a lot faster , especially because the icons are pretty big . Luckily , there's never really a point where you have to use the touch screen if you don't want to , and battling can still be done the old fashioned way if you so choose .
As with Ruby and Sapphire there are also moments of two on two battles . Usually they come with either two trainers taking you on at a time , and you'll send out the two Pokemon in your top roster , or you'll be with another trainer who will send out his or her Pokemon with yours . It adds to the strategic feel of the game , but the moments of two on two battles are pretty few and far between .
In your journey you'll also receive a nifty watch that works based off the time of your internal clock . This means that much like Gold and Silver , it'll switch between day and night . Some Pokemon come out only in the early morning , others come out late at night . Some Pokemon only come out on certain days . Either way , those itching to catch each and every Pokemon will enjoy this aspect of it .
As I said before , Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have added some new things . The most important new thing however , is how much easier it is to trade Pokemon and battle with your friends . Using Wi-fi on the DS is far better than the various link cables or having to go out and buy the wireless adapter for the GBA . You can battle with people all across the world , and do other things as well , such as trade with them . Of course , in order to enjoy the full benefits of this you'll need the friend code to do it , and sometimes . In order to get the full experience of the online gaming world in Pokemon , you'll need to register friend codes . If you don't you can't enjoy some of the better perks , like being able to talk to a friend using the microphone of your DS as you battle . Still , the combat is enhanced greatly when playing online . If you don't want to play online you can easily connect to another DS and battle it out that way with your friend simply sitting in the room .
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are also full of little secret goodies . There are the legendary Pokemon , Pokemon contests , and of course , even after you've finished the main story there's more to be done . You can transfer Pokemon from your GBA versions by sticking it into the GBA slot of the DS . No matter how you slice it , Pokemon can easily keep you busy longer than several RPGs combined
I wish I could say the graphics and sound are absolutely amazing , but they're really not . For as much fun as this game is , it's certainly not the best as far as graphics go . The same goes for the sound as well . Pokemon has never really been a game you go after for eye-candy , though . There are some moments where some 3D effects come out , but not very many . The sprites are more or less the same sprites they've been using since the Red and Blue versions . Ideally , the game doesn't look all that much of a step up from Ruby and Sapphire , and they were not fantastic looking games either . It's really colorful , but the DS is capable of so much more than this . Likewise , in battle is still as horrible as ever . Fun to do it , but the Pokemon still only flinch to attack , and there aren't a lot of animations going on , and we're still looking over the Pokemon's shoulder . Essentially , the combat engine hasn't changed since the series first outing in 1998 . There are some move animations that look really good , but aside from that it's hard to look passed the simple fact that the game's combat engine hasn't really evolved since the original games came out way back in 1998 . This isn't the original Gameboy , this is the Nintendo DS .
The sound is also no exception . A lot of it sounds really tinny . There are some tunes that definitely sound Pokemon like , but again , it's using old technology on a system capable of a lot more . Most of the sound effects such as the Pokemon's cries are ripped straight from - - you guessed it - - the original Gameboy versions released in 1998 . That's not to say all the tunes sound bad , it's just to say that a lot of what you're going to hear is recycled .
Despite the games graphics and sound , Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are still excellent games . There's a lot more depth here than people think , and a lot of stuff to keep you busy for a long time to come . Even those who are tired of the same simplistic plot and formula will find something great here .

This is a great game . If you have played a pokemon game before then you will love it as much as someone who has never played one before . It has enough new features make you want to play it even if you have the other pokemon games . It is well worth your money as it will provide hours of fun .
There are very few bad points with it : the touch screen controls can get a bit anoying having to swap between the controls for battles . But that is just a small price for an extremely good game that i would recommend to anyone with new pokemon and a new story .

Storyline isn't really new . You start out in a town . Meet your rival . Deliver a package go back get your pokedex and given a quest to fill the pokedex .
But what is nice is the additions . Like how they have brought back the time factor back into play . Also love the wi-fi feature . Finally you can battle against others online , and the capture the flag game is fun as well .
Nothing is really drastically new from the other games , but as they say . If it isn't broken don't try to fix it .

I personally like this version of pokemon because not only do I use it to remove boredom , I also use it to talk to my friends around the world . I also use it to communicate with my girlfriend in a building where there is no signal for her cell phone . I use the voice chat feature in the game and we talk when we need to . The game itself is like any other pokemon game except this one adapts the old gba versions to complete the national pokedex . My son has this game . These are his complaints . You can't catch Palkia in Diamond Version . He doesn't like how Mespirit and Cresselia can flee even if they are sleeping , paralized , etc . and if your Pokemon has arena trap for a pokepower . This game is tons of fun for everyone ! I strongly recommend people to buy this DS game . Everywhere you go you see different pokemon ! When you start out , you meet Professor Rowan . He assigns you to get all the Sinnoh Region pokemon's names in the pokedex he gives you . After you finish Prof . Rowan's request , you meet Prof . Oak . He asks you to catch all the pokemon in the world and get their full data . That's what I'm stuck on right now . I usually go to the Fight Area , Resort Area , and Stark Mountain to get pokemon from other regions , but sometimes I use my Emerald game to help me out . Here's a hint . If you have Diamond , don't expect to get all the pokemon from the GBA games and Diamond because some pokemon you can only get in the Pearl game , so you should trade with someone who has Pearl if you have Diamond and do the same if you have Pearl . Overall , I think you should definitely get this game ! But be careful when you meet Prof . Oak !

this was a great installment to the ever popular pokemon game with lots of added features to keep people coming back every day . The new pokemon and well done and everything seems to be decently balanced . i didnt put my ds down in the first 4 days it was in my possession . I can promise if you life the previous pokemon games , this one wont let you down !

In my opinion , I found this game VERY boring . . . I really don't like most of the new pokemon ( i mean , have you seen Comby ? ! Come on ! ! ! ) and my favorite pokemon , munchlax , took WAY too much boring waiting to get . I was never a fan of the pokemon games anyway ( with the exeption of the Mystery Dungeon games , i love those ) . All you do is go around battling pokemon and catching new ones . Training is boring , battling is boring , and putting so much waiting to find rare pokemon is just . . . . . . boring . And it was much too easy to catch pokemon . . . I cought the all-powerful legendary pokemon , Dialga ( the pokemon on the cover of the game ) , with an ordinary pokeball . I'm not even kidding ! I weakened it , then threw a pokeball . . . and it caught it . If you liked the old games of just wandering around catching pokemon , you will probably like this too , though .

I think the best of the pokémon games so far was Crystal . You could travel between Johto and Canto and the game lasted a lot longer .
D is still a good game , but could have been a lot better . It deserves 4 stars , but I had high expectations for D and it didn't quite live up to them .
027 4 OK . I'm 44 years old and female . This is the first Pokemon game I ever played . ( Previously my young son had played Pokemon Stadium on the N64 and Colosseum and XD on the GameCube , but I didn't really pay attention to it . And of course we watch the shows . ) This game is SO addicting . I bought it when it first came out ; completed it in May of 2007 , and have logged an additional 600 hours breeding , training , and battling Pokemon . Most of that extra 600 hours was battling . Anyway , the more you play , the more you learn ; with the help of sites like the famous serebii.net you can look up which attacks your Pokemon will get when it reaches a certain level and plan an ultimate moveset . I don't battle over WiFi ( except with my husband and son ) so I'm not into training and equipping ' killer ' level Pokemon . This game has a great pace , fun to learn , and still lots of things to keep me entertained after all this time . I've got all 490 Pokemon ( or whatever the final count is ) and am working on getting my faves to lv . 100 .

The sound is a bit bad . . and it can get real annoying when wild Pokemon just keep coming up to you . ( Buy repel ) The game is really addictive and naming yourself and rival is cool too . As soon as you start the game , you and your friend decide to check out lake Verity for the shiny Gyrados sighting . As you go there , you see no Gyrados , but an old Man and his assistant Dawn or Lucas ( depends on what gender you chose ) . As they leave , you realized they dropped a briefcase . As you guys are approaching it , you get attacked by a couple of Starly ( Mukuru in japanese ) and you open up the breifcase nd find . . . pokeballs . Within the pokeballs are the Fire Type Chimchar ( Hikozaru ) , the Water Type Piplup ( Pochama , Picked him in Diamond ) , and the Grass type Turtwig ( Naeteru , Picked him in pearl ) . At this point is where your adventure starts . You have to take your newfound partner , catch other amigos and make a team to battle against other trainers .
Graphics - 5 / 5 The graphics are definately an update from the old GBA games . Some places , and even a cutscene or two have 3D effects that were impossible to do on the GBA . THey could've probably been better , but I'm happy with it .
Sound - 5 / 5 It has some of the old revamped sounds , along with a bunch of new songs . All of the songs are intereting to listen to , you might even end up liking a few .
Gameplay - There is many things to do in this game . You can battle , as usual , and you can also do contest again , a feature once introduced in Ruby and Sapphire , and again in Emerald . However , they added two other parts to the contests , a Visual contest and a Dance contest . You can dress up your Pokemon with clothes you obtain for your Fashion case , while the Dancing game is a rhythm game . You can also go into the underground to play games with friends or get fossils spheres and stones . Online you can battle with friends , or trade with them directly , judging on if you have their friend codes or vise versa . However , there is a way to trade online without those darn codes . The GTS is a server based system in which you can trade with peopleall over the world , and it is also one of my favorite features .
Overall , there is a lot to do in this game and Pearl . IF you are a pokemon fan , you're probably going to get this game anyways . But if you are looking for a great RPG , a PokeNOOb , or a casual gamer , you should still try this game out . Overall , I give this game a 5 out of 5 ( lol , it sounds like Xplay )

The standard formula has not been updated since the original release : catch Pokemon with Pokeballs , Battle with them , and become a Pokemon Master . Messing with that would screw over the series , and their additions to game are truly moving in the right direction , but unfortunately , this game falls flat on its face in several areas , such as the Global Trading System . But when it does succeed , the game is tremendously fun .
The core gameplay is still fun , if not repetitive ; catch Pokemon , battle trainers . The re-addition of the time system , missing since its Gold / Silver debut , is also appreciated . They haven't seem to run out of new ideas for Pokemon , either : From Turtwig to Manaphy , the series has fine new additions . Annoyingly enough , Nintendo events are still clung to and it is difficult to obtain some of the rarer species . And even if it does get boring , the underground mini-game has plethora of areas to explore ; you can still build your own base like in Generation 3 , and it seems all the factors that made the previous games fun are in here . However , the game does not innovate enough .
For one , I would have preferred more interaction with the lower screen . Being able to choose your attacks and basic navigation with the menus using the stylus is a boon to the series . But why did they stop there ? Why can't I completely use the stylus to navigate these things ? And the Pokemon watch , while neat in theory , is very clunky .
But the worst aspect is the GTS and Wi-fi battles . Nintendo completely dropped the ball on this ; the GTS is littered with hackers and players asking for crazy demands , like a lvl 100 Mew for a Pidgey . For trainers who want to use this function , it is largely a waste of time . And the inability to trade for Pokemon you have not seen yet is a pain . In terms of Battles , Nintendo continues to cling to their Friend Code system , which makes finding a decent battle a giant chore . While they should be praised for aiming to make it family friendly , this has made the online system inoperable .
Still , Pokemon Diamond is an enjoyable entry into the franchise . It is a solid title for the DS , but I hope they make a few more adjustments for the next round .

It is a very good game . It has 3 - D graphics Wi-Fi to anybody in the world or trade with anybody even if it is a stranger you can trade . It has a Mic on Wi-Fi so you do not need your phone . You can trade from Ruby , Saphire , Emerald , Firered and Leafgreen even if the Pokemon is not from the game . The battle screen is easier to handle .

It was bound to happen , and it's happening now .
Maybe it's a little unfair to give Pokemon the same score as Full Metal Alchemist : Dual Sympathy , but I'm grading Diamond on a comparative scale to the general populus , whereas FMA had a sparse 3 or 4 reviews .
It's hard to disagre with the general public as to which games are good and which ones aren't . But there are few games , which by personal preference , just doesn't rub the right way for the user . Pokemon has been one of those games for me . Believe me , had this been a review for the very first Pokemon game that ever came out , it'd be the same score and the same thing .
Sure there are several things different with this Pokemon game . There better be , after the long awaited anticipation of its release . But the premise is the same , touch screen capabilty is limited , and not much is different . As a Pokemon hater ( I'll explain in a bit ) , I had initially decided against buying this . I bought this game for two reasons :
1 . Selling my DS collection in bulk in the future would have a gaping hole if one of the two Pokemons were missing .
2 . I actually thought that maybe I could get into it and it could put my DS to good long use .
An hour after I bought it , I realized why I hated the game so much .
It's too simple , monsters ( of which you could only carry 6 at a time ) with a whopping 4 moves . . . I dunno , but it gets really annoying seeing poor graphic moves over and over and over and over and over and over again . Maybe it's just me , because everyone in this universe seems to absolutely love Pokemon .
I credit the Pokemon franchise with absolutely nailing the RPG with the much younger audience . They've done a fantastic job of creating this never ending RPG that can capture a child's attention for hours at a time . How it can hold the attention of an audience even slightly older ? That boggles my mind .
I really didn't want to write this , and I was actually considering leaving Pokemon out of my reviews , because I want my reviews to be helpful to the prospective buyers . But I guess anyone buying Pokemon knows what they're getting themselves into , and a review of the game would simply be for amusement . I guess I'll just have to take the 0 / 50 helpful votes on this review . . .
What drove me to wrote this was that the Pokemon duo released for the near maximum DS price of $34.99 , and it seemed to me that it wasn't worth it . But that's not all . . . Some genius found a way to max out every single monster and stat and item in the game , and started selling copies of these on Ebay for a whopping 135 bucks a pop .
People , people , people . . . WHY ! ? I don't understand , I never thought I'd see the day when a DS game broke the $39.99 maximum ( only two games have hit that price ceiling so far , Final Fantasy III , and the Star Trek Game , with a third one coming soon , Zelda : Phantom Hourglass ) . Not only have you wasted money on the game , you defeated the whole purpose of purchasing the game in the first place . . . TO COLLECT THE MONSTERS MAYBE ?
The only thing that kept me droning on and on for that one hour I played the game was the faint desire to level up my Pokemon . I can't imagine how dull it must be to play a brand new game , completely demolishing every Pokemon and Gym Leader that comes your way with your Level 100 monsters . It makes no sense .
And what , wireless play ? How ridiculous is this , a bunch of maxed out Pokemon fighting each other with a maxed out number of items to replenish health so that the battle goes on into infinity .
My hate for Pokemon had grown immensely after seeing that nonsense .
It's not a very good game , the story is lame , and it costs too much . Everything about the game is drab , graphics are dull , the SoundFX suck , and still ! GameFaqs top 2 , DS bestseller , and it ACTUALLY beefs up my collection . That's so depressing to me . . .

I love this game . It's so much better than the other pokemon games . The graphics have a cool effect in that they pop out at you . The poketch is cool to . It's a clock , calculator and other stuff . The legendaries are much cooler than the other games . They are VERY detailed . The touch screen has a lot of uses but only at your choice . This group in the series does introduce several new features to the Pokemon Universe ( namely online battling and trading ) , and the storyline at least attempts to be epic . But the selection of Pokemon available to the trainer is relatively limited unless they're willing to put in a lot of extra effort in not only this game and the ones preceding , but other non-traditional Pokemon Games .
The bulk of the Pokemon encountered in tall grass consist of perhaps a handful of common Pokemon that become extremely annoying ( Starly and Geodude are probably the most notable . )
And encountering other pokemon in-game practically requires a schedule to remember what pokemon are available when , and in what zone .
My biggest disappointment is that a lot of Pokemon can only be obtained AFTER beating the Elite Four , by swarm , GBA cartridge transfer , or GBA cartridge insertion . You essentially have to act as a Pokemon Breeder to get Pokemon to learn certain moves , as well .
It's simply too much of a headache to bother with trying to get any of your favorite pokemon in Diamond and Pearl without Heart Gold / Soul Silver . It often takes too much time , too many other games , and too much breeding to be worth it .

171 4 My son has this game . These are his complaints . You can't catch Palkia in Diamond Version . He doesn't like how Mespirit and Cresselia can flee even if they are sleeping , paralized , etc . and if your Pokemon has arena trap for a pokepower . I guess the bad things don't out weigh the good things because he wants to play the game pretty often . And he really likes Dialga .

My son is 12 and has LOVED Pokemon since he was 3 . He wanted this game so badly he started saving his own money 2 months . He bought it the day it came out and has played it everyday since . A must have for Pokemon People !

This is a great game . The kids and I love playin and trading . Get pearl for your other DS and then you can play with the kids . Graphics are really good , gameplay is smooth and straight forward .

And of course we watch the shows . ) This game is SO addicting . I bought it when it first came out ; completed it in May of 2007 , and have logged an additional 600 hours breeding , training , and battling Pokemon . Most of that extra 600 hours was battling . Anyway , the more you play , the more you learn ; with the help of sites like the famous serebii.net you can look up which attacks your Pokemon will get when it reaches a certain level and plan an ultimate moveset . I don't battle over WiFi ( except with my husband and son ) so I'm not into training and equipping ' killer ' level Pokemon . This game has a great pace , fun to learn , and still lots of things to keep me entertained after all this time . I've got all 490 Pokemon ( or whatever the final count is ) and am working on getting my faves to lv . 100 .

This game is exciting challenging andd long.I got the game on april 22 , i still haven't completed it . i am glad it takes long cause then i won't get bored quikly . all the new pokemon in the game are really cool . this is the best game ! if you like pokemon and you don't know wich one of the games to get first get this one . there are over 150 new pokemon , the ledgendary pokemon are really cool and once you beat the pokemon leage its not the end of your journey . the game can be challenging but its not so hard to figure out after you work on it . P.S . if you get stuck at trying to move pokemon in the way talk to the people in the most recent towns , then collect the item go back to pokmon hit A when you are right up face to face with it and you will use the item and the pokemon will move.I think this is the best game i ever played in the world ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

the last time i played pokemon was when it came out for the original gameboy 10 years ago . im 21 now and now they have diamond and pearl for the nintendo ds . they kept the basics down for this game-to catch pokemon and be the number trainer in the Sinnoh region . this plays the same as the original ones . im just surprised how well the pokemon game formula holds up . there were 151 pokemon the last time i remember . now they have over 400 . thats crazy ! ! ! thats why im addicted all over again . i jus gotta catch em all . lol . theres so much things to do in this pokemon game . it's mind boggling .
if you have a ds , go get this game . this game is real fun and addictive .

Pokemon Diamond is a good step up from the other pokemon games . I have been a fan of pokemon since the old red , blue , and yellow versions for gameboy . This game makes them look like glitched up things of the past . Here's my opinionated scoop on the bad and the good of this game , in that order .
The Bad :
1 . Same old thing . What I mean by this is , although the story has it's differences from other games , it's still basically the same idea . You get to pick your first pokemon from : Turtwig ( a grass type ) , Chimchar ( a fire type ) , and Piplup ( a water type ) . Once you pick your first pokemon in a setup somewhat similar to the Ruby , Sapphire , and Emerald versions , you are off on a journey to basically be both the ultimate trainer , and the contest master . You will meet a new , psychotic evil team , who has the wrong ideas about the pokemon world and such . There is also the same goal of beating the elite four , and the return of that tedious training you must do to get past the gym leaders . All I am saying , is this game will probably be a newer experience to those who are just getting to know pokemon .
2 . It seems like the Pokemon company are starting to get low on ideas . First off , long time pokemon gamers may notice they haven't introduced as many new pokemon as they did in Gold , Silver , and Crystal . What's more , they even started intertwining old pokemon into the new games , just giving them different index numbers . Of course , it's hard not to include the old pokemon when many of the new ones are either pre-evolutionary forms , or even evolved forms of them . Cute and cool , but may not cut the mustard . Now don't get me wrong , there are some cool new pokemon ( Piplup , for example , has become very popular among pokemon fans ) . All I am saying is , the game designers seem to be digging in the bottom of the barrel .
3 . The secret base system just isn't as good . Now , I love the Underground ! The prospect of digging for fossils , heart scales , and other rare items appeals to me ; but who here has played the Ruby , Sapphire , and Emerald versions ? In those versions , you can have secret bases in trees , in rock walls , and even in bushes , in any desirable route . This game , not so much . You have to have to create your base somewhere in the Underground . Now , that may not be too bad for some , as you can create it wherever you want , provided you have the drilling tool . BUT WHY DO THE STUPID ROCKS HAVE TO BE THERE ? ! This is what really stinks ; you can't move the rocks unless you capture someone elses flag . I think in order to do that , you have to have Wi-Fi connection , and infiltrate somebody else's base to get their flag . I have dial-up ( because high speed can get expensive ) , and have heard Wi-Fi will not work with it , so I'm out of luck . I'm stuck with the dumb unmovable rocks ( that are always in the way ) , in a base that looks like everyone elses ( except maybe with different decorations ) , that lacks variety in landscaping .
4 . The Poketch ( Another awkward name , but it stands for pokemon watch ) could use a bit more work . It's good if you only have a few things you can access from it . However , when you get more things , you basically have to start tapping the screen like crazy to get what you want . All I'm saying is a quick selection feature would have been nice .
5 . Another annoying rival . Long time pokemon gamers will know the type . Pesky , bothering you at the wrong times , always beats you to the gymleaders even if it seems impossible that he did so , picks the starter that beats yours in type and boasts about it , and is supposedly a long time friend of yours . Yeah , very irritating .
6 . Getting the national pokedex is a bit of a pain . Until you get it , you cannot rely on help from stronger pokemon in a couple of the older versions either .
The Good :
1 . Waaay more life-like ! This game is the most three dimensional of the pokemon hand-held games I have ever seen ! This makes it more life-like in some areas , as it makes you feel you're actually on the ground rather than in a hot air ballon , or something in the air , looking down on everything .
2 . Time is more realistic . This could also weave in with more life-like . Rather than change instantly from day to night or vice versa at six , like in Gold Silver , and Crystal , or not at all ( like the other pokemon games ) , Pokemon Diamond actually has day phases . There is morning , afternoon , dusk , evening , and even late night ! Gameplay is good no matter what time you play ! The game also acknowledges days of the week ( example : Drifloon comes to the windworks factory on Friday ) , though maybe that isn't used as much as it was in Gold , Silver , and Crystal . All the same , it is a better and well-developed system .
3 . They brought back the night guards ! It brings back fond memories of Gold , Silver , and Crystal , to have police men who will only fight you at night . . .
4 . The gyms are better than ever ! Maybe a tad harder than I like , but the traps and stuff don't have a deja vu feel to them . It's a totally new experience !
5 . The Underground is awesome ! I enjoy digging up rare items and spheres ! The only thing I wish to warn is : don't dig to many spheres in the ground ! The older spheres will start disappearing if you bury too many spheres .
6 . The contests have come back with a vengance ! Do you know those old contests in Ruby , Sapphire , and Emerald ? You feed your pokemon pokeblocks in hopes the audience will like how it looks , then you try to outshine the others with moves in a period of four turns on a single judge . Well , that kind of contest is now the thing of the past ! First off , instead of pokeblocks , players must feed their pokemon a food called poffin . It's made of berrys still , but in a different way that uses the stylus . It's like you cook your pokemon's food now . Then there's the dancing , the accessory and poffin accented physical appeal , and rather than one , THREE judges you can appeal to ! Contests are now more difficult , fun , and entertaining !
7 . More trainer card features ! You can actually sign your name in your own handwriting using the stylus on the back of your trainer's card ! You can also shine your badges , which do get dull ! I thought these were interesting and entertaining tidbits of the game .
8 . The poketch is cool ! Yes , I complained about it not having a quick select feature in the bad ; but regardless , this thing is still very cool and useful in the game ! Hidden item ? Throw away the item finder and use your dowsing app ! Forgot where you plant a berry ? Find the locations of pickable berrys with the berry finding app ( that may not be what it's really called ) . Chances are , if there's a feature you want your poketch to do , you will find it eventually .
9 . The new pokemon are cool . There aren't really enough new ones , and the ideas seem to be a bit . . . lacking in a couple of areas ; but still , the new abilities , moves , and pokemon make for new and exciting gameplay .
10 . I believe there are a lot of legendaries . This means more rare pokemon for you ( and a good deal of them are cute ! )
11 . This game is more people friendly . Quite often , you will team up with a character in the game who will heal your pokemon after each battle , and offer his or her pokemon for assistance in double battling format . This is a great opportunity to learn to work with the pokemon that are not yours . The only drawback , is that you will meet two wild pokemon at once . If there is one you want , you can't catch it until you defeat the other pokemon . In addition , your partner will attack every turn not knowing to let up . On these facts , it is better to try and catch pokemon alone .
12 . Animations are included , and there are many good details . This time there are differences between male and female pokemon other than the symbol . These differences are slight and difficult to tell , but it is good attention to detail . On top of that , pokemon animations are included ( example : Starly flaps its wings when you see it ) . Another new good detail is being able to tell how much a pokemon weighs against yourself .
13 . Taking care of berries is easier and more realistic ! Don't recall when you last watered that berry in Ruby , Sapphire , or Emerald ? Well , now you can tell ! The soil actually changes to a light color when the berry plant hasn't been watered , so you know when to water it ! The only challenge that remains is being able to water it several times a day . . .
So , that about raps it up . Overall , this is an awesome game beyond belief ! If you want hours of entertainment , love pokemon , or even just enjoy playing videogames in general , then this is one of the best games you can buy out there .

Pokemon Diamond is the most exciting Pokemon game yet ! There is SO MUCH TO DO . Seriously , there are almost two towns for every gym . That makes Sinnoh the biggest region in Pokemon history . Also , there are lots of great Pokekmon to choose from and a lot of cool legendaries .
While the graphics may not be as good as games like Nintendogs , I think the graphics are as good as they should be . Pokemon is a cartoon and I think the graphics are fine . But I do admit that Game Freak could have done a little more on the battle scenes . The battles look pretty much like Ruby and Sapphire . ( Actually so does the game , but Ruby and Sapphire had pretty good grapis IMO ) I think they could have made the Pokemon move more and that would have created a more I'm there feel .
But that is ot enough to make me lower my rating ! This game is awesome ! One great thing is that you can use the touvch screen to navigate through battles and party Pokemon and item bag ( and trust me , the item bag has expanded , therefore making it even more time-consuming to navigate through ) . This is great for the Safari ame . I don't know about you , but in Pokemon Sapphire I kept accidemtally catching Oddish and that got annoying . It is harder to make that mistake in this game . And now they have day and night again ! Yay !

Although some of the new Pokemon are a disappointment ( especially Bibarel it looks like a character out of a cheap kiddie show ) in their character design , some look absolutely amazing . Lucario and Torterra are wicked and Pachirisu and Shellos are just too cute . You also have fairly early and easy access to a Pikachu . You can get one after you get four badges , I think . You can find them in the backyard of the Pokemon mansion . Uh wait I mean you can find PICHU there and they are SUPREMELY easy to catch . My personal favorite Pokemon ( so far ) in this game are Torterra , Lucario , Dialga ( dragon / steel ? It's about time ! ) , Crusselia ( looks wise ) , Midrevius ( I know that's not the right name but it's the evolved form of Misdreavs and it's scary-looking but definitely an improvement . Stats are similar to Gengar's ) , and Floatzel ( looks awesome ) . The only real qualm I have about the Pokemon is that there are like three fire-types to choose from : Chimchar ( fire-starter ) , Ponyta ( you can ctach one really early . They aren't half-bad when you teach one Fire Blast ) , and a fire / steel legendary ( or fire / ground . I'm not sure . I do't think I'd use it , though ) . Some might just give up on Fire-types altogether , but fire is my favorite type so no way .
Team gallactic is all right . They are weird . They are more evil than Team Rocket . They mostly use bug-types and he new normal cat Pokemon .
There's also a cool-sounding wireless feature but I don't have any personaly experience with it yet .
To sum up my review , I'll list the pros and cons :
* nice graphics
* HUGE area to explore
* lots of cool new Pokemon
* early access to a Pikachu
* touch screen makes game easy to scroll through
* cool wireless features
* easy to moderate gameplay

Team gallactic is all right . They are weird . They are more evil than Team Rocket . They mostly use bug-types and he new normal cat Pokemon .
There's also a cool-sounding wireless feature but I don't have any personaly experience with it yet .
To sum up my review , I'll list the pros and cons :
* nice graphics
* HUGE area to explore
* lots of cool new Pokemon
* early access to a Pikachu
* touch screen makes game easy to scroll through
* cool wireless features
* easy to moderate gameplay
* just plain awesome game
Cons :
* battles aren't as good in graphics as they could be
* some new Pokemon look dumb
* not many fire-types

It is a great game ! there are finally 3d graphics and many new pokemon . you still get all the old stuff like contests , the old pokemon , and sex choice .
The one thing my friends and I dont like about it is pretty much the only way you can totaly beat the game is with the guide ( It took me half an hour to find some stupid key ) . If you DO get the guide , the game will be pretty easy . Heck , the only challange will be beating the gymleaders / elite four . But if you have the money for the guide , then the game , and the challenges will be great !

I bought this for my 9 year old son . Also bought the Pearl edition for my 7 year old daughter . They share a Nintendo DS and are constantly fighting to use it . Each session has to be time-limited , and they act like they're going through withdrawls when they are not playing . But they have to earn playing time through chores and good behavior , which balances out all that fun .
They enjoy talking strategy and comparing the Pokemon they've caught or battled . They've also made it clear that they can trade their Pokemon with each other if they BOTH have a DS . Hmmm . . .
Anyway , if you don't mind your kids being addicted to a good , clean , non-violent video game ( like we were ) , this appears to be the ultimate for now .

This game is only for people that have NEVER PLAYED pokemon before . Only then will it be a decent game . Slap a new name on an old game . Pokemon diamond is almost the same old game as when it first came out . Being on the new DS , you would expect it to at least upgrade its graphics and utilize the DS's full potential more . The only differences are : The towns look different , pokemon attack you more , different types of pokemon , different types of people , different bad guys , more tm's and hm's .
1 . POKEMON : Okay , in this game there are even more pokemons for you to find and . . . . sometimes catch . But here's the low down if you're an analytical thinker . You see different types of pokemons right ? But if you get to the basics of it , are they REALLY different or are they just the same old pokemons with a different look ? Nintendo ran out of ideas for pokemons decades ago so they go into the pictorial dictionary of our earthly creatures and make a caricature of it and slap a goofy name that sometimes relate to the animals real life nature or . . . not . . and call it a pokemon . They are so desperate to make up more pokemons that they brought in everything from dinosaurs to petshop animals to mystical creatures like dragons . Its to the point where its almost ridiculous to look at .
Pokemon in this game seem to attack you a lot more , probably also based on ur abilities . Playing this game would drive you completely NUTS if you didn't carry a lot of REPELS , which seems to be the only real thing that works to repel those obnoxious wild pokemons . Sometimes you can take 2 steps and get attacked . Think about it , you're trying to solve a clue to get your way out of a cave and you get randomly attacked every 2 - 10 steps that you take . Just take a minute out of ur day and think of that for a second and see how you'll feel . Buy some insurance for your DS because I almost broke mines .
I know cheating is bad but this game literally begs you to buy an ACTION REPLAY or other cheat device . Why ? Because through half of the game they keep having you encounter the same small variety of pokemons . Catch'em all they say ? How can you if 90% of the DIFFERENT types of pokemons almost throughout the game belong to a trainer ? ! ? ! You can set up your team however you want , but that's really limiting when you can only catch a handful of pokemon , especially old pokemon from the first game , even through half way in the game ? ! What is really fun is to be able to raise a pokemon throughout the game . Why would I want to find a legendary pokemon at lvl 50 when I'm practically done with the game ?
What I really really hate is how nintendo gives you a lot of pokemon like machop , gasley , abra in the beginning . They're nice but they can only evolve to their final form by trading . That is sort of hard , I'm 22 and I don't feel comfortable walking up to a little kid and be like hey do you want to trade pokemons with me ? this is when a cop arrests me and I become a sex offender . I'm not crazy enough to play this online either .
2 . DS Utilization : Okay , the DS has a much better graphics engine on it , so why not use it ? Pokemon Diamond could have easily been done on the regular gameboy . Use of the stylus ? It's okay but nothing extraordinary . Sometimes its almost more convinient just using the buttons . Don't expect a lot of interaction using the stylus , its very badly incorporated into the game , to the bare minimum almost .
Graphics remain pretty much 2D . For those of you that say DON'T FIX WHAT'S NOT BROKEN , that's the kind of attitude that makes you sink lower back to the caveman era . Don't fix it , IMPROVE IT .
3 . MISSIONS and PLOTS : SAME O SAME O . Old game with a new name indeed . Missions are basically the same , start in a town , objective to be the best , go beat gym leaders , beat the elite four , then battle tower etc afterwards .
The bad guys are back , only difference is their name . Everything is EXACTLY THE SAME . Same with your rival . If you were starting to get sick of pokemon emerald . . . . this is almost the exact version so pick one and keep it .
4 . Battling System : EXACTLY THE FREAKEN SAME . NINTENDO , if you were going ot make the exact game and change it a little bit to trick a bunch of kids to buying your game and making you a lot of money , at least make the pokemon's moves look a lot cooler . The moves have a little more graphics in them but HARDLY anything worth mentioning .
THIS IS WHY I THINK IF YOU BOUGHT THIS GAME AND YOU。 VE PLAYED POKEMON BEFORE , YOU。 VE BEEN RIPPED OFF REAL BAD . This is the only thing I can think of now but I'm pretty sure there's more complaints to be said . Oh yeah , you can't trade in your pokemon from your other pokemon games until much later when its almost useless .
Be prepared to be pissed off when your pokemon that has a 165 based attack power and is 10 levels above a wild pokemon and still can't KO it with earthquake and its a normal effective move . THat's how ridiculous it is , and that pokemon has a 70 base def too . . . RIPP OFF ! ! !

The Pokemon series has always appealed to the obsessive in me . Indeed , who can resist a good chase , or the opportunity to collect literally hundreds of Pokemon . Of course , the old games pretty much required that you have a friend to play alongside you , and as I got older , it became more difficult to find people willing to devote a similar amount of effort into the game .
Now , however , with the Nintendo Wi-Fi option , all of that is a thing of the past.Now , one can trade for Pokemon around the country , or even the world . Thus , after a 6 - year layoff , I decided to pick up Pokemon Diamond ( which gave me an excuse to finally get the DS , which incidentally is 1000x better than the PSP that merely takes up desk space in my room ) . And yeah , the obsessive reared its ugly head immediately , as I then bought Pokemon Fire Red , Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Ranger .
But ahem , back to the game at hand . Pokemon is excellent . Although formulaic , it's always been a fantastically deep RPG experience , even without the postgame collection madness . I won't detail the plot , as it has been beaten to death in these reviews . Instead , let's move immediately to the good and bad here .
GOOD :
- Great gameplay . Yeah , the engine is a bit tired , but it still chugs along . I particularly enjoy the fact that it is easier to catch weak Pokemon in the wild with a special Pokeball .
- Good graphics . Although not the best the DS has to offer , with all the other data stored in there , they aren't bad .
- Wi-fi is nice . I have yet to experience any problems with connections or whatnot . It is annoying that some people will cheat you online ( with hacked Pokemon , e.g . ) , but what can you do ?
- National Pokedex . Come one . When they say you can now collect 493 ( ! ) different Pokemon , how can you not resist ?
BAD :
- legendary pokemon . There's not much legendary about them anymore . I mean , there are around 13 new legendaries introduced in this very game . Moreover , many cannot be obtained except via Nintendo events , most of which have yet to grace our fair shores ( yeah , I know there was a Manaphy event - of course , you can get that Pokemon in other ways ) . This has always been an annoyance of mine , but it's particularly bad now . There are three Pokemon that simply aren't ( legitimately ) available at the moment , and another three which require the purchase of other games . The REAL annoyance is that there is no reason for this whatsoever - with a Wi-fi option , Nintendo could make their events available to the public at large . But whatever - Nintendo has always been annoying this way , and it won't change any time soon .
- Underground . Do I really have to mine the walls for hours to find certain fossils ? Does my base really have a bunch of rocks in it that can only be moved if I find another person's base ? Does anyone really have time for this ? A complete dud .
- Pal-Park . Later in the game , one gets the opportunity to migrate Pokemon from older games to their pal-park . This was a great idea . Why , then , do I have to be bothered by its mechanics ? Only six Pokemon can be migrated each day , and then I have to go through a minigame to catch them . Just let me upload them to the PC , for crying out loud !
The last two BAD remarks are somewhat nitpicky , but the first is getting outrageous . When it was only one Pokemon , it was reasonable . But Nintendo has turned their clever little satire about obsessives into a mass-marketing campaign . . . geared ONLY for fanboys . I'm pretty sure that we NEVER got the chance to get Mew in the GBA games , and that's annoying . Hopefully , Nintendo will use their Wi-fi to make events more public , I ain't holding my breath .
And thus , I knock the game one star .
