I admit , I am also a sushi addict . And like others have said , it's not a cheap habit . I crave sushi , and get very cranky when I realize I can't afford it . So I ordered this set about 2 years ago to try and curb my expensive habit . Though I clearly am not a pro , after some practice , your sushi can come out looking pretty darn good and tasting almost as delicious as your favorite sushi spot .
We have an awesome asian grocery store within about 20 minutes of our house , which helps a lot . and I definitely could have gotten the staple tools there , but I wanted the book too , so I figured make it easy and order this kit . None the less , we do go to the market for ingredients ( we try to buy the same brands that I've seen at our sushi place ) and it's about a quarter of the price it is in the regular grocery store . I tend to stick to veggie sushi or shrimp / crab , because I don't want to be the one to kill my boyfriend with food poisoning by accident . But even sticking to that , this kit comes in handy . I make inside out rolls ( rice on the outside , nori seaweed on the inside ) by covering the bamboo mat with seran wrap . The book was great in teaching me the basic steps , and I still refer back to it .
Do yourself a favor , get a rice maker . That to me , was the most difficult aspect of making sushi and trying to do it in a pot nearly killed me . The rice maker took the guesswork and frustration out of the mix , and you can get a small one between fifteen and twenty five bucks .

001 4 I bought this kit because my wife and I are addicted to Sushi , but the cost was killing us . To aleaviate the financial strain we decided to learn to make Sushi ourselves . This kit has it all ; An easy to read how to booklet , bamboo rolling mat , dipping dishes , rice molds for sashimi and four sets of reusable chop sticks . All of this together in a very nice storage box package . As for solving our sushi desire it has . Although making sushi is a time consuming ordeal at first , once you get the hang of it you will want to throw sushi parties for all your friends . The hardest part of making sushi would be perfecting the sticky rice and locating all the ingredients at your local supermarket , but as far as cost goes you will spend a fraction of what it costs to purchase ready made sushi in a resteraunt or market .

The really amazing value is the kit . The chopsticks and accompanying dishes are very good quality . It also comes with a bamboo mat for making sushi rolls . 003 4 The box this kit arrives in is beautiful . The only problem was I had to pry the drawers open with a screw driver as they were jammed shut , and this wasn't easy . The good - The sushi making book has good information . The rectangle mold for molding sushi works great . The okay - The chopsticks , holders , and dishes are all usable . The bad - The bamboo roller was totally covered in mold and had to be thrown out . I purchased a silicone sushi roller at our local kitchen store which is fantastic ! It works much better than bamboo , and washes and dries beautifully . Overall , this kit was low cost , so I didn't ask for my money back .

Making sushi with this set was a fairly simple , intuitive process . The bamboo rolling mat , which is the primary reason we bought the kit , is big enough , and it gets the job done . Everything included appears to be of good quality .
The Sushi Deluxe Book and Kit are an excellent , inexpensive introduction for anyone who wants to make sushi at home . This set also makes an excellent gift .

012 4 I bought this for my dad thinking he'd get into making sushi himself since he's always loved it . When I gave it to him , I wanted it myself . It is a very nice kit . . . especially for the money . I'm surprised it's not $40 + . I haven't gotten to read the sushi recipe book inside , but that's all junk you can find on the internet in 5 seconds anyway . The physical aspect of all the pieces is great . ( rolling mat , soy dishes , serving tray , chop sticks , maybe more , I forget ) In any case my brother called me a few days later , and I was right , my dad is obsessed with making it himself now .

After an extensive review on Amazon.com and throughout the Web , I kept coming back to this kit . The on-screen images and brief description leaves much to be desired . However , when we opened the package , we were impressed with the overall product . The chop sticks , sauce cups , and chop sticks rests are black and professional looking . Definitely the kind of materials you would expect to receive in a moderately-priced sushi restaurant . The rolling mat is . . . a rolling mat , exactly what it should be . The book is thin but the recipes look amazing . We are actually going to look for a more in-depth cookbook soon . This kit gives you all the tools you need to get started and to set up a nice dinner for four . Given the low price and high quality of materials , this kit is a bargain deal .

025 4 My husband and I ordered this kit so we could cut down the bill for our addiction to restaurant sushi . We also ordered the Sushi for Dummies book and an extra bamboo mat . We were making terrific sushi the very first time we tried , just 3 days later ! It was very easy to follow the directions and we have now also tried the soup recipes . All the soup and sushi we've made has gotten the stamp of approval from everyone in the family , even our 9 and 4 - year-old kids . Now we can go to our local Asian market for ingredients and really save on wonderful fresh sushi . I also loved the compact box design for easy storage . The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star review is that the middle drawer in our box was glued shut and we had to rip it to remove the book . But other than that we love it and I am purchasing another as a gift !
028 4 I was very excited when this came in the mail . For under $14 , you really get a lot , and everything in the kit is pretty good quality . I do have to say , I think the reason the price is so low is because of a manufacturing defect : The center drawer is glued closed , and you have to pry it open the get the book out . ( However , once you finally get the book out , you probably won't want to put it back in , so no big deal , right ? ) The chopsticks are big and sturdy , and feel good in your hands . The dipping trays are pretty ( not the ones shown on the top of the box . . . they look more like ceramic dishes with a painted design . . . very tasteful . ) The rolling mat is nothing fancy ; just the usual bamboo mat . You also get two chopstick rests made of stone . My favorite thing was the book . It is not very big , but full of great information . It gives you quite a few sushi combinations to try , as well as how to make authentic sushi rice and different kinds of soup . There is advice on serving , eating , and cutting . It is a very well-written book , even though it is small . The color photos are full-page and very professional . It is well worth $14 , so I would get this , even if you decide to purchase another kit . . . you will NOT be disappointed .

042 4 I bought this set as a gift for a family member . Going out to sushi every other weekend can sure become costly . However , the in home kit is quite explanatory and easy for the beginner ! It's great for someone who loves sushi , has the time to prep it , and doesn't care for the cost !
043 4 This beautiful set totally exceeded my expectations for the price . I was expecting a mat , a book , two sets of chopsticks , two dipping bowls , and a rice mold . I didn't realize that they would come in a lovely gift box that opens from the side and allows each component to slide out as a book comes out of its case . The book isn't terribly detailed , but it's a good starter . If you really want to go all-out for someone , get them an additional book to use with the set .
