Super Mario Galaxy 2

  • 056 4  I've only played this game for a few hours and already I'm in love with it . I played Mario Galaxy and that was a great game despite the fact that Yoshi wasn't in it , I thought they made a mistake at first but after playing MG I felt who need him . Until I played Mario Galaxy 2 Yoshi is back and better than ever with new colors and new abilities , depending on what he eats . Yoshi get bloated and blows air so you can fly for a short period of time when eating a blimp berry , he turns orange and runs faster after eating a dash pepper , he turns a hot yellow and brighten hidden paths after eating a glimmer bulb berry it's just so awesome how they made him . Now for the star of this game Mario himself he returns with most of his previous MG abilities with of course some new ones as well such as Rock Mario , yes rock his hat and overall turns to stone giving him the power to turn into a boulder and roll and jump around to destroy enemies . Another new power is Cloud Mario , he clothes become puffy looking resembling fire Mario but now he can create clouds to ride on as well he can now walk other clouds he would fall through this power up is very limited as you will see . So as you just read Mario has once again came back and is better than ever , with a new challenging yet fun to play game . This is a must-have for any Wii owner . Now for my critical review GRAPHICS 5stars looks great , GAMEPLAY 5stars very fun to play , STORYLINE 5stars great tie-ins , NEW FEATURES 5stars yoshi's back and new abilities and SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2 5stars .

    • 163 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) It's a shame . . you have to use the Nunchuck , which make it Hard and controllers are annoying It is difficult to control the Character and many times you are not sure where you should be going . This has to be one of the most BORING games I've ever played.I really hate this game .

  • 087 4  IT is a great game . If you liked Super Mario Galaxy you will love this game even more . There are tons of new additions like yoshis . Yoshis are awesome . They can run fast , glow , float , and you can aim their tongue by using the wii remote . Their is also rock mario . As rock mario if you shake the wii remote you start rolling . Their is also cloud mario . When you shake the wii remote you create a cloud which you can land on . You only have three clouds per cloud mushroom so if you make three clouds you will have to return to where you first found the cloud mushroom .
    • 052 4  Just played with my kids for two hours and we had a lot of fun and a great sunday afternoon !
    • 062 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) Just got the game today and I havent stop playing since . Amazing , really creative boosses and worlds . A little harder to beat than the first which I like . If you loved the first one , you must get this one ! Best Wii game , no doubt about it .
    • 171 4  Created by Nintendo , Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a great game for the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber groupies that make up 99% of Nintendo's consumer base . It even has a feature that allows the CPU to take over and pass certain obstacles , for the children . Though , Nintendo should probably add voice acting next time , the children playing this will probably have a hard time reading all of the text . Solid 5 out of 5 . - - SIKE ! ; D

  • 100 4  For months my Wii sat getting dusty while I played on my 360 , but no more ! ! ! A few months ago I purchased New Super Mario Bros . and remembered what made Mario games so great . Being raised when the NES was the newest machine out there , I normally haven't liked 3d platformers . I enjoyed New SMB so much that I decided to give Super Mario Galaxy a try . Previously I've hated games that have required me to use the nunchuck controller to move my player around , but this is nice and easy . I bought Galaxy 2 after my rental ran out and I absolutely love it . The controls are easy and familiar . The game play is spot on to the true feel of SMB games and after a while of getting sick of shooters and sports games I'm reminded of why I fell in love with video games to begin with . Well worth the money ! ! !

    • 106 4  i really enjoyed super mario galaxy 1 but 2 is really a step above . many will fuss about the world menu on 2 instead of the world hub on 1 but i actually think that the world menu is a huge improvement . it's a quicker easier way to venture to different planets . . i am able to begin the awesome gameplay much faster than running around in a hub based world trying look for the right world to go to . i am a diehard super mario 64 fan and super mario galaxy 2 comes very close if not surpassing it in many ways . the game is cleaner and more tight . if you love mario you have already bought this game . if you are a more mature gamer you might be turned off by another mario game . but heck you can't keep a good plumber down . this game really is spectacular .
      • 020 4  I really love this game . I got frustrated already on one of the bosses , but my hubby was able to beat it , so I moved on to the next level : ) . I really like it that it is similar to MG1 , but I like this one better . The levels are awesome . I couldn't put it down the first day that I purchased it ( 2 days ago ! ) . I also like the multi-player ( friend ) mode . I think that the new items you use are cool , too ( like Cloud Mario and the driller ) . I also like it that you do not have to go into the room and click on a star to drag mario to that planet ( like SMG1 ) . I hated that part about SMG1 . This is much easier . I also think that the colors on this game are much better . . . Although , I think my TV is better this time as well , so I don't know if that has something to do with it . But I would recommend this game for sure . . . which is why I am !
      • 095 4  I love this game . It fills me with joy and happiness that I haven't felt during a video game in so long . The level design is genius and content is fresh . If you think this is only an expansion pack of Super mario Galaxy 1 you are wrong , this improves upon the original and adds so much to become a better more polished , and easily the best game on Wii . It's easy enough for casual gamers to enjoy , and difficult enough in later levels for hard core gamers to be challenged . The graphics , music , and control are all top notch and like I said earlier the game is just plain fun .

    • 109 4  The fun never stops . I own a Wii for games like this . The first SMG was amazing and this one is even better .
      • 140 4  it's a really cute game for everyone ! I love Mario and his starshroom kingdom ! ! HarHar ! !
      • 156 4  Save your money , this game is boring and pointless , wish I could get my money back !

    • 148 4  I gave this game one more star than my review for galaxy 1 . I had high hopes for this game , with the cosmic guide function and things like that , that I thought would make the game more fun . Fun is what video games are supposed to be all about , but apparently the makers of Mario Galaxy 2 , still have not figured this out . Very small time limits and fall to your death 3 million times , is not what I call fun . The cosmic guide seems to kick in way to late , or is missing all together maybe for some levels . The graphics are great , and the game could have been phenomenal , if it were more fun . If galaxy 3 had difficulty levels , like easy , normal , hard and insane , and made the cosmic guide available after losing 5 - 10 lives on any level , I would probably easily give it 5 stars . It could have been a great game , if it were more fun . I do recommend the game , to people who have liked the Mario games in the past , or think they would like to give them a try . But be prepared to be very frustrated sometimes , and to not have near the fun , you could have had , had the makers of it , designed this game a little differently .
      • 070 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) With each new release of a Mario game , I'm one of the first to jump on the band wagon and purchase the game . My husband and I have lots of fun playing these games together . In the first Super Mario Galaxy , it was a fight for who would play Mario since player 2 did nothing but collect star bits . This time , player 2 gets to do a little more and actually is very helpful in completing tasks . Now p2 can freeze and kill enemies and get coins , star bits , and mushrooms . My husband and I have been playing the game for the last couple of days and I find it even more fun than the first even though I am almost always player 2 . It is very similar in format where you collect stars to gain energy and get to Peach , but it has a few small improvements on the original . If you liked the first , you will more than likely enjoy this one , too . I love Mario !

      • 081 4  Extremely fun for kids and adults . This has to be the best game of the year . If you don't own a Wii it is about time you buy one , and play a game that has changed the way you see and play video games .
      • 125 4  I havent touch my Wii for abour 4 - 5 months and this game finally made me play it again for hours so that's saying alot ! If you have 32 or 40 inch HDTV this game will even more enjoyable . The gameplay , control and creativity on each level / stage are perfect . This is much better than mario galaxy 1 although the previous game already a solid one . If you like Mario then I dont see why you shouldnt get this one . I aint giving tons of detail about the game which you can simply find out on other places but I'm just going to say this is the first time in last 8 - 12 months that I really into a video game again and that game is mario galaxy 2 .

    • 167 4  Hello Amazon people , this is my review of some Mario game . About 4 years ago , my father sat me down . . and do you know what he said to me ? He said Control yourself . Take everything you neeeeeeed from it . A family of treeeeeess wanted , to he haunted . , and those words proved to be inspirational for me because when I was 7 , I became the first student in my elementary School to be personally invited to the Whitehouse by the greatest President in history , George W . Bush . When I was 13 , in a national spelling bee , as Team captain , I led my school to four consecutive championships . FOUR CONSECUTIVE CHAMPIONSHIPS ! When I was 14 , I played my first ever Super Mario game . It was called Super Mario Sunshine and judging from how much that game sucked . I'm just going to assume this one does as well , hence the low rating . Now back to me , when I was 17 I became the first person in PSN history to get a Tatical Nuke in the original Modern Warfare . I have screenshots to prove it . Do you understand what I am saying to you , right now ?
      • 050 4  When I first played the original Mario Galaxy , I didn't know what the praise was about . As I got into the game , it became one of my favorite games of all time . When Galaxy 2 was announced , I was skeptical that they could surpass the original and it might become a rehash . Boy , were my fears completely wrong ! Super Mario Galaxy 2 makes the original look completely outdated in terms of level design and pure creativity . In just one level , there is more creativity than in many full retail games . This game is worth every penny and more . Good job Nintendo again .
      • 059 4  Mario Galaxy is back and better than ever ! The bar has been officially raised again for the platforming genre and modern gaming in general . Miyamoto has outdone himself with this one guys . Everything is superb and plays like a dream . I won't spoil a thing . I can see myself playing this for over 100 hours and for years to come . Nintendo's new masterpiece is Super Mario Galaxy 2 !

      • 149 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) So far I'm not that impressed with the game . It seams exactly the same only not quite as cool . Game designers make a quick buck off of making identical games , because the system is already in place , just change around a few things . . . release . . . cash in the check ! I still enjoy the game , i just fell like i'm in a time machine and i went back 3 years when i played the old game .

      • 162 4  Well I'm sure the game is awesome . . . but its not here yet . . . I ordered one day shipping on a pre order so that I could be playing it the next day . Not even an e-mail as to why it didn't come . . . I'm sure the game is awesome , but don't pay for the 1 day shipping , it might just end up taking even longer ! ! !

    • Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) After playing Mario Galaxy I knew that this sequel would be just as entertaining and fun to play as the previous game and I wasn't mistaken . The intro story is a expected mostly similar to the first games intro with some differences of course but the story is about the same for both , rescue the princess help your new friends , defeat Bowser and his mini-bosses , and return the galaxy to the right way . The one thing other than the incredible animation and effects that fit the game perfectly was the reintroduction of my favorite lizard Yoshi who I have a great fondness for , I felt that after being part of the Mario game universe for so long that a Mario game wouldn't be the same without him as the said can be said with Mario's mushroom friends his brother Luigi and of course his true love Princess Peach . The game controls are the same as with the first Mario Galaxy game for the most part and I appreciate that since it's sometimes of a headache when you play one game and the sequel to it comes out with almost totally different control actions , also the addiction to the game is the mini-bosses you have to fight along the way and the different ways you have to defeat them . So rejoice fans of the Mario gaming world another great game has come out for us to enjoy once again . . .

      • 053 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) Over the past several years , my interest in the Wii has waned . Not since the days of Super Mario Galaxy ( the first once ) had I sat down and actually enjoyed a game for it . Nintendo's approach to the style of the Wii was far to casual for my taste and I lost hope in the system . I was convinced Nintendo had abandoned it's once hardcore fan-base . Not to say that Galaxy 2 has completely redeemed Nintendo of all prior missteps taken with the Wii but I must admit , this game is one of the finest pieces of gaming genius . Good job with this one Nintendo .
      • 102 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) As a fan of the first Super Mario Galaxy , I was very eager to see what Nintendo would do for the sequel . Of course , there was also some anxiety , because the first game was so enjoyable , part of me was afraid either the new game couldn't live up to the first , or else it would just be a re-hash of the first game with some new planets to explore . Put your mind at ease if you're in the second camp like I was : Super Mario Galaxy 2 is everything I loved about the first one , plus better controls , more imagination , and more fun ! Some people complain about the cruder graphics on the Wii when compared to the other latest generation consoles , but the bottom line for me is that a game is either fun , or it isn't . And SMG2 proves that Nintendo can still make games that are insanely fun , don't require blowing people's heads off , and maximize the graphics abilities the Wii does have . The game looks fantastic , is easy to pick up , encourages continued play , and is so mind-blowingly creative that it's a shame other companies can't reach the same level . Whether you've played the first game or not , this is definitely worth your time and money . Mario fans rejoice !

    • Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) First off , I'm giving this 2 stars because I dislike Nintendo's whiny fans . So don't question my rating in the comments . Thanks . This is a pretty awesome game compared the original . It's the most fun I've had on the Wii console . However , there are some huge plot holes / unanswered questions that ruin the game , and I've listed most of them below . How exactly is Mario in space ? Why does Mario no longer need mushrooms to become Super ? Why are Mario's older enemies like the Koopa and Goomba in space as well , did they follow him there ? How does Mario breath in space ? Is he not human ? Why did everyone decide to leave the Mushroom Kingdom ? Who created Starship Mario . . and how ? Why is Luigi always busy ? How did Bowser know Mario went into outer space ? Why does Rosalina have more backstory than any other Mario character ? Why is Bowser a giant ? Shouldn't Peach know that Bowser is going to capture her ? Why does Bowser capture Prince Peach ? Why doesn't Bowser become friends with Mario ? What motivates him to be the antagonist ? Why does Bowser never capture Princess Daisy ? Where are Wario , Waluigi , Daisy , Donkey Kong , and just about every other Mario character ? Why is Fluzzard so annoying ? Why are there Bees in space ? Are the Boos deceased humans ? Why do they haunt Mario ? Where do Bob-ombs go when they explode ? Why is Mario willing to risk his life for cake ? Where is King Peach ? Where is Prince Peach ? And why don't they seem to care about Princess Peach being captured ? Why are there no Knights in this so-called Kingdom ? WHY THE HELL ARE THEY EVEN IN SPACE ? !

The graphics are wonderful . The levels are awesome too ! As the game progresses the challenges definitely get noticeably harder , but nothing too difficult . It is obvious that a ton of thought and detail have been put into this game . I have no complaints , other than the fact that it is highly addicting ! I got the game only a few days ago and I find that it is VERY hard to put down ! I give it an A + because it is everything ( and more ) that I want in a game . I would highly recommend super mario galaxy 2 to anyone that loves mario !

      • 154 4  First off , I'm giving this 2 stars because I dislike Nintendo's whiny fans . • Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) I was fortunate enough to play this game Friday . Living in the NYC area and being a Club Nintendo Member with platinum status , I was invited to the Nintendo World Store at Rockefeller Center for a private 3 hour pre-launch party for Super Mario Galaxy 2 . This game is not only a home run , it's a grand slam . I've been playing with Mario since I was a teenager . This game is pure eye candy . Make no mistake , it is difficult when you clear the first few stages . They have improved on the original for sure !
      • 017 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) This game is truly spectacular . It uses very simple core gameplay mechanics ( jump , spin , point , and groundpound ) but it uses them in so many ways ( including powerups , yoshi , and excellent level design ) to create new gameplay mechanics to every level making them fresh and interesting . This game is one of the best on the wii if not the best . I love this game and it is my favorite 3 - D platformer game of all time

    • Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) My daughter was 5 - years old when we first played the original Super Mario Galaxy . She would constantly corner me every day so that we could play it over and over , and after we beat it , over and over again . In fact , I have beaten the original game a total of 10 times with my daughter as my trusty side-kick at the player 2 spot , grabbing stars , freezing bad guys , or shooting the occasional bad guy or gold dot to get me a much needed coin . So imagine our delight when we heard on Amazon.com last June that Super Mario Galaxy 2 was available for pre-order . . . without a confirmed date , of course , but ready for pre-order nonetheless . Does Super Mario Galaxy 2 hold up ? Does it still manage to capture the heart of a 7 - year old girl and her father ? The answer is a resounding YES . Super Mario Galaxy 2 completely operates in its own right by being a stand-alone story . The only nod to the previous Galaxy comes in the form of Rosalina who will appear if you have significant difficulty with a level so that she can actually show you how to pass a level ( at the cost of getting a bronze , NOT gold star ) . Back to the story ( or the little of it that there is , a la most Mario games ) , Princess Peach has been kidnapped by a GIGANTIC Bowser ( surprise ! ) . Naturally , Mario is going to rescue her with the help of star power from master luma ( star-like creatures with the capability to transform ) . Who is there to help Mario this time ? Well , this time Luigi is a playable character later on , as opposed to the original Galaxy which forced you to take the torturous path of collecting all 120 stars before unlocking him . Yoshi is on board as well , your trusty steed who can eat red-hot peppers to move quickly and cross water no less , or become a blimp full of hot air , or glow to reveal hidden paths . The biggest change for us as a father-daughter team is that Player 2 has more to do now . Player 2 is actually an orange luma who follows Mario around . Now , Player 2 ( in addition to freezing enemies and grabbing stars ) can actually spin as well to knock enemies to the ground or grab coins from remote places by flying over to them quickly and then bringing them back to Mario . Also , making Player 2 an actual , tangible entity in the game ( as opposed to a mysterious P2 star that has no discernible presence ) makes it even more fun for my daughter who gets caught up in the action because the game itself is usually too hard for her as Player 1 . She will actually say things like , Daddy , you get the one on the right , I'll get the one on the left . It's extremely hard to pry her away from it when it's time for a story and bed . Has the gameplay changed much ? Well , no , the same mechanics are there . It's interesting that the game starts off as a 2D sidescrolling event that leads into somewhat a 3D perspective until it's a full-blown 3D adventure . It's a subtle , baby-step transition and , as an IGN reviewer put it , it pays off in getting those unfamiliar with the original to get into the action . Despite having the same mechanics of jumping and spinning , Mario has some new powerups . Cloud Mario can create little tufts of clouds to hop up . Rock Mario has our hero turning into a solidified boulder to roll around ( and even bowl to hilarious effect ) . Drill Mario allows our hero to drill through to inaccessible areas . And , of course , there's Yoshi who is able to eat his enemies and use a couple of funny power-ups of his own as previously mentioned . Bee Mario , Fire Mario , Spring Mario , etc . , make their return . Super Mario Galaxy 2 is smooth , polished and shows the time-dedicated love and attention that was bestowed upon it during its 3 - year absence . It takes the best parts of the original and makes them better while taking away what didn't work the first time . They have wisely included more for player 2 to do while acknowledging that Mario is still , front and center , the star of the show . The music is even more fully orchestrated than before . The attention to detail is phenomenal and showcases Nintendo's desire to never compromise by releasing a product too quickly without undergoing the rigorous quality control that this game clearly had . Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a delight for children and even a delight for me as a 37 - year old father . This is my daughter and me time , when we share a fun family night ( Mommy likes to watch ; D ) , night-after-night and it is my modern-day Monopoly . Cheers to Nintendo for taking a winning formula , keeping it more than alive , and breathing fresh ideas into this franchise . So what are you waiting for ? Purchase the game . . . this is one of the flagship titles , and deservedly so .

      • 004 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) Mario Galaxy 2 builds on the success of Galaxy 1 ; the premise , controls and basic concept are the same . Mario has to navigate through different worlds , each incorporating some gravity defying , mind bending challenges . Every planet is completely new , there are no repeats in the tasks to complete , and with over 240 stars to collect that is no small feat . This game has several additions , most notably rock Mario , cloud Mario and Yoshi , and returns some of the original game's best ( bee Mario and boo Mario ) . One difference from the original is that while in the original there was a narrative that ran through the game , that aspect is completely gone in this installment . Of course , there is a basic story which by now you know by heart , Princess Peach is kidnapped and needs to be rescued . After this is presented the game immerses you in its 3 dimensional nature . Gameplay : This game is more challenging than the first . It gets you into serious platforming from early on , and while that is a welcome change in the early stages , some of the latter stages can be quite frustrating forcing you to spend quite a bit of time trying to get the one star needed to advance . There is a play for me option that you can use in some of these more frustrating challenges . The only difference is that you get a less lustrous bronze star as opposed to a gold one ( letting everyone know that you couldn't complete that challenge on your own . Another change is that there is more 2 - dimensional gameplay , which is very well done and serves as a good change of pace from the almost schizophrenic , mind-bending 3 dimensional stages . Finally , with respect to gameplay , there is a more linear or straightforward map as opposed to the very open story-line that you could follow in the first game . The two-player mode is more complete than in the first game , allowing the partner to attack enemies with a spin move . Graphics and sound : The graphics are fantastic , some of the best graphics available on the Wii . The orchestration is also very well done , adding to the action but not overbearing . Summary : All in all , an excellent game that takes all the good things about Mario Galaxy 1 and improves on them . With over 240 stars to collect and no repeat in the action , one of the biggest bargains in games .

      • 006 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) There is no doubt about it that Super Mario Galaxy remains as one of the most defiant games for the Nintendo Wii . Since it came out in 2007 , it has re-shaped the way Nintendo has delivered its favorite pint-sized plumber . The game really delivered in a whole new dimensiion by showcasing Mario in Zero-G with more excitement and challenges than you could definitely imagine . Now with all that hype Super Mario Galaxy 2 has finally came out and fans all over want even more of their Mario mayhem in spades , but the question is that does the sequel lose any of the formula that made Super Mario Galaxy so superb . The answer is absolutely no , it just simply adds more challenge and more mayhem to it . Super Mario Galaxy 2 is definitely one of the must-own games of 2010 that really is worth the money that is spent on . The game takes on new challenges as Mario is again sent into space trying to rescue Peach from the clutches of Bowser , accept this time the challenges are more extreme as Mario faces new worlds from a intergalatic Giant World , to tougher foes than before like Peewee Pirhana and king-sized Bullet Bills , all the way to a even more challenging Giant-sized Bowser that is even larger and fiercer than before . But Mario isn't alone in this game to face them . He has Yoshi as well in this game , and the use of Yoshi here is well worth the effort as you control him and Mario in levels that are beautiful and bolder than before . There are also new power-ups here too from the cloud suit , where as you jump you can make clouds become simple platforms to help you on your quest which can help you earn those extra stars , and the Rock suit that can make you Invincible as you can easily smash your way through foes and rocks to uncover hidden star bits . that'll help you earn lives as well as defeat harsher enemies . Yoshi as well has some tasty power-ups like the blimp fruit which makes hime float on air and help you get to certain platforms you couldn't do alone , the bulb fruit which helps you see certain levels that might dissapear when you're in the spooky levels of the ghouls and Boos and levels that might be spooky in the night , and the dash pepper which makes Yoshi move like a speed demon through to help you try to race your way around the extra Zero-G madness . The graphics are absolutely amazing through the game , and picks up nicely where the original Super Mario Galaxy has left off . The control also is strong here , with the aid of Yoshi as well , as it is easy to manuver with him as he can easily swallow Bullet Bills and Pirhana plants that'll help you on your quest , and spit them out at other goombas and lakitus that won't take no for an answer . The music though does bring back at times classic melodies from past Super Mario Brothers titles like the first Super Mario Galaxy did , but remains as epic to appease the hard core Mario fan . Nevertheless , the fun here is absolutely well-worth the effort from each and every level with new challenges and mayhem that is sure to keep your Wii plugged in for days on end . All in all , if you're a owner of the Nintendo Wii and you've loved the original Super Mario Galaxy , than I absolutely recommend Super Mario Galaxy 2 as a great addition to your Wii library . It really does the job where any Mario game really should , and is a real treat for the gamer in all of us . I really love this game from the moment I've seen it and laid eyes on the madness , and trust me you'll not even be dissapointed with it either . It is well-worth the wait and Super Mario Galaxy 2 delivers from start to finish on the fun . Graphics : A Sound : A 1 / 2 - Control : A Fun & Enjoyment : A Overall : A

Graphics : A Sound : A 1 / 2 - Control : A Fun & Enjoyment : A Overall : A
      • 011 4  The first Super Mario Galaxy is perhaps the greatest game for the Wii . All the while I was playing it , I wondered how Nintendo could possibly exceed the game's standards in ANY type of Mario sequel that would eventually follow , on this console or the next . Their answer ? Super Mario Galaxy 2 ! Nintendo simply had SO many ideas for the original game that they couldn't pack them all in , and so followed it up with an even MORE amazing direct sequel , something we have not seen the Mario series do since the days of the NES ! At first glance , one might make the horrific mistake of assuming that this game is more of the same . Which , honestly , given the astounding quality of SMG1 , would not necessarily be a bad thing . But SMG2 has taken every single thing that made SMG1 so great , and tweaked , expanded , streamlined and perfected it into a thing of near-flawless video gaming beauty . Right out of the gate , the controls are so smooth and the rate of achievement so satisfying , that it already puts most other games to shame . Then you take into account the absolutely mad level of soaring creativity and imagination that has been packed into every single design aspect of this game , and even accounting for SMG1 , you have a game like no other than you have ever played . I have not been able to peel myself away from it for nearly a week since I bought it . There are lots of new additions that build upon the concept of SMG1 . Foremost among them is Yoshi , whose inclusion really expands the game in a number of very satisfying ways . He controls very well and is genuinely fun to play ( although he does become VERY frustratingly difficult to manuever whenever he chomps on a dash pepper ! ) . And as you progress through the game , Luigi will appear and offer to stand in for Mario from time to time , so you can take control of him and his greater jumping abilities for especially difficult challenges . SMG2 also mixes in some side-scrolling stage elements here and there , which feels much more natural and fun than you might expect , and really combines the modern , 3D world of Mario with his classic format in perfect harmony . There is also a new world map , which greatly streamlines and improves navigation between all the different stages over the clunkier hub world concept of SMG1 . There are lots of new abilities for Mario which are all easy to control and very fun to play with , such as the powerful Rock Mario and the ever-useful Cloud Mario . There are also stages that allow you to drill through entire planetoids in search of important items or secrets , which is a blast . And then there's Fluzzard , an alien bird whose talons you can grab onto for exhilirating flights through enviornments filled with lush , captivating tropical beauty ; you will experience some genuine vertigo during these stages , and feel compelled to play them again and again just for fun ! Even the coin-collecting element that is forever entwined with Mario games achieves important levels of usefulness here , which was not the case in SMG1 . The comet challenges in this game might very well be even more frustrating and hair-tearingly difficult than they were in SMG1 , but here they are set up more as bonuses for advanced players and completists to test themselves with than , say , necessarily a very important chunk of the gameplay itself . Just finding the comet medal in every stage to unlock those comet challenges is a very fun task in and of itself ! All told , I don't know if I can come up with a negative thing to say about this game . Nintendo has truly outdone themselves on every level here , and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will almost certainly be the gold standard by which every game they develop will be measured from here on out . Where can they POSSIBLY go with future Mario titles that will be as wildly imaginative , compelling , and outright fun as this one is ? One can hardly imagine ; I can't even grasp at the brilliance that birthed this incredible game . But SMG2 is , without question , another top-tier example of why Nintendo is the greatest game developer on the planet , and wherever Mario finds himself in the future , this game proves to us that he is , as always , in superbly excellent hands !
      • 012 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) I have held off on writing this review until I knew that any review I wrote would be fair . After beating all 6 worlds , collecting 92 stars and over 40 comet coins , I'd say I have a pretty firm grip on the game . First of all , Super Mario Galaxy 2 is very , very fun to play . FUN takes precedent over any other comments , compliments or complaints I have in this review . Second , Super Mario Galaxy 2 , contrary to popular opinion , is not harder than the first Super Mario Galaxy . If anything , it's easier . In the first SMG , which was also a pretty casual game by Mario standards ( especially after the relatively brutal Super Mario Sunshine ) , I ended up getting frustrated with a couple levels and I gave up on trying to collect every star . After 3 years , I'm still sitting at 73 stars in total in the first game ( I've gotten 20 more in the 2nd SMG . . . in a single week ) . There wasn't a level , or boss , in SMG2 that was difficult to the point of frustration . The levels are very short and even the toughest won't last most gamers longer than 15 minutes ( usually not more than 7 or 8 ) . The most disappointing thing about the difficulty level is the ease of beating the bosses . Only 2 bosses in the game even killed Mario as I played . Not a single boss brought me to a game over . I beat the final boss without even getting hit . If only one thing changes for the next Mario , I hope it's the difficulty level of the bosses . Rosalina ( IE - The Cosmic Guide ) offering more casual gamers a play-through affords Nintendo the chance to make bosses the like of which we haven't seen in at least half a decade . The kind of bosses that make you want to throw your controller through the TV set out of sheer aggravation . Outside of the bosses being too easy , does Super Mario Galaxy equal the first ? It's even better ! It loses the originality that the original had ( obviously ) , but the level design is even more stunning . As mentioned above , levels are much shorter than those found in the other 3 - D Mario games . Because of this , Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the first 3 - D Mario to 100% successfully translate the pulse-pounding gameplay of the 2 - D games of yesteryear into the 3 - D visual style gamers crave today . The other 3 - D Mario games were great - - but Galaxy 2 keeps the frantic energy level up from beginning to end in a way that I haven't seen since Super Mario World . Other advantages to Super Mario Galaxy 2 over the original Super Mario Galaxy ( or any other 3 - D platformer out today ) are the return of Yoshi , a map that's the easiest to navigate since Super Mario World , slightly improved graphics , the ability to trade off and play as Luigi every few levels on the first play-through and some great new power-ups . For a game that I incorrectly thought was going to be nothing more than an expansion pack , these improvements were a welcome surprise . Despite the improvements , one downside from the first hangs around for the second . If you didn't like the controls in the original , they'll still annoy you in the sequel . I wish they'd allow you to play with your choice of motion-control , a GameCube or a classic controller like Smash Bros or Mario Kart . The precision of a gamepad is missed . I died from the spin control not registering at all or fast enough more often than I did from anything else in the game . These are cheap deaths that would be easily avoided with a gamepad . Even with the motion-control ( or in spite of it ) , Mario Galaxy 2 is an excellent game . In the 18 hours it took me to collect 92 stars , never once did I get bored . There's always something new and exciting to see . The power-ups are scattered throughout and just when you tire of one , another is offered . The level design really does boggle the mind . You have to play it to understand how epic it truly is . Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the very essence of gaming . It , like all the best Mario games , is timeless . The game will be as fun 15 years from now as it is today . Super Mario Galaxy 2 , just like Super Mario Bros . , Super Mario Bros . 3 and Super Mario World will be considered a classic when 2010 ' s Call of Halo or Gears of Madden feels like an antique . And maybe in 15 years it will be available to play on a Virtual Console with a gamepad . Woo-hoo !

      • 015 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) I didn't think Nintendo would be able to top the first Super Mario Galaxy with this sequel , but I do believe they did ( though , only slightly ) . There's so much creativity and inventiveness in Super Mario Galaxy 2 , that it's hard not to fall in love with it . If you've played the first Galaxy , you'll be right at home with this one . Nintendo took everything great about the first one and made it better ( except the story , but in a game like this , who cares ? ) The graphics , even though they're not HD , look wonderful , representing the best looking Wii game to date . The art design is top notch . It's all very colorful and fun to look at . The orchestrated music is also a joy to hear making it some of the best music Nintendo has produced for any of its games . But what makes Galaxy 2 really shine is the level design and the sheer amount of variety . Galaxy 2 always throws new and clever challenges your way . The game has a whopping 242 stars to collect . The first 120 are standard yellow stars that you'll collect throughout the course of the regular game ( though you'll only need about 70 to take on the last Bowser and finish the game ) . The remaining stars are green stars that are deceptively hidden in all the galaxies you've already completed to get all the yellow stars . The green stars add more of a sense of exploration to the game , and you'll probably be busy for days or even weeks trying to find them all ( I still have more to collect also ) . Also , scattered throughout the game , you'll find numerous homages to other Mario games , particularly Mario 3 , Mario World and Mario 64 . If you're an adult , and you're worried that Galaxy 2 seems too kiddie for you to enjoy , don't worry , this game is great for all ages . Super Mario Galaxy 2 has received much critical praise from gaming web sites and magazines , and it's currently the highest rated game on the Wii . I'm happy to say that the game deserves all its accolades and deserves to be added to your gaming library .

      • 019 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) I really love this game .
      • 022 4  My nine year old son loved the first Galaxy game , and in truth the entire family enjoyed watching him play it . I even took my turn playing when he'd gone to bed at night or when he was at school , and I'm definitely picky about the games that I'll play . So when Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out , we immediately went out and got it , and it's important for me to point out that this is the very first game we purchased on the day that it came out . The game is great ! You get all of the things that you loved from the first one , including the music and the puzzles , and you get all sorts of fun new stuff , including the new power ups ( I actually love the digging one ) as well as Yoshi ! ! It's controlled the same way that the first one was controlled , and while the majority of the levels aren't too difficult ( which is in keeping with the Mario world style ) , there are definitely some tricky puzzles that your brain has to work on a bit to figure out . Another thing that we found is that , when you're on spaceship Mario , you can share star bits with other players who have a profile . This is actually a really great tool , especially if you have an adult playing and a child playing a separate profile , as it allows the adult to stock up the star bits so that the child can open some of the levels of the game . I'm sure that we'll wear this game out just like we wore out the first one !
      • 023 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) I'm going to try not to shower this review with undeserved superlatives , but after playing the game for a few weeks , here's my take on Super Mario Galaxy 2 . 1 . It is fun . Almost ridiculously fun - like classic Mario of old . 2 . The action seems faster and more exciting ( i.e . Mario navigates the planetoids quicker , especially on Yoshi . And enemies move more quickly and are tougher to avoid . ) This could be from overal improvements in the graphics . 3 . The controls seem much smoother than SMG1 . The response time and sensitivity of the controls seem improved . 4 . The game is bigger . There are simply more stars to find and goals to achieve which makes for more gameplay and better value . 5 . In my opinion the level designs are more linear instead of open-ended which makes the gameplay more straight forward . The fun factor comes sheerly from excellent level design . 6 . The level select screen is more like SMB3 or even NSMB Wii . 7 . There are a few new perspectives and camera angles that make gameplay more interesting . Some levels switch between 2D and 3D action and the camera shifts seem more natural . Big improvements here . 8 . The second player actually has a luma on screen and can interact with enemies and collect hard to reach 1UPs and coins . My wife and I have been playing in tandem and both of us are having a blast . 9 . I thought the new power-ups would be corny . They're not . Cloud Mario , Drill Mario , Rock Mario and the new Yoshi power-ups are so much fun to use . Galaxy 2 takes what worked about Galaxy 1 , streamlines it , distills it and makes it even better . Pure gaming enjoyment . The only complaint I have is that some of the levels are so fun and well designed that they seem over too quickly . A fantastic game that's tons of fun that I'll be playing for a long time . It is worth every penny . Hope this helps . ( P.S . - my rating for fun is supposed to be 5 stars . )

      • 025 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) Where to begin with this amazing game ! I just got this game today and I must say you will be intrigued . It's the best mario game since Smash Bros . III . Sure Mario has the same basic controls he had in the first one but he's still cool and works rights . Yoshi is soooo much fun to ride on . He's powerful , flawless , and fun . I didn't get to many of the suits yet except for Cloud Mario , Fire Mario , and Rainbow Mario . Fire and Rainbow are great again and Cloud is really fun and helpful . I love the new navigation system where Mario gets his own ship and you can fly to different galaxies like New Super Mario Bros . Wii if you know what I mean . It's also less frustrating and cute . So final verdict . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .10 out of 10 This is a must buy !
      • 032 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) Super Mario Galaxy 2 is quite an acheivement . It's the first time that two 3d mario titles have appeared on the same console . While Nintendo openly admitted that this title initially started out as nothing more than Super Mario Galaxy 1.5 . You can tell that this game is more than just an expansion on the original formula . Gameplay 10 / 10 : There is no other company that could pull off the quality of gameplay that Nintendo does time after time . If there was any question that Nintendo was at the top of their game then it has completely disappeared with Super Mario Galaxy 2 . This game controls flawlessly . Graphics 10 / 10 : While Capcom held the graphic standard with Monster Hunter Tri . Nintendo decides to come in and reclaim the standard with SMG2 . This game is absolutely gorgeous ! The original's game engine was stellar , but Nintendo has somehow made the second that much better . You won't want to look away . Even if you're an HD console fan you won't be able to deny how fantastic SMG2 looks . Story N / A : Look , if you havn't figured out that Mario games aren't about story yet then it's time to open your eyes . I've seen this particular category being placed in the negative in a lot of reviews . Come on now . Mario is about challenge , gameplay , and sheer fun . We all know that . However , Nintendo has done an outstanding job finding new ways of saving Peach in order to keep it fresh . Sound 10 / 10 : The orchestrated music in SMG2 is a pleasure to listen to , and you will find yourself getting caught in stages listening to the soundtrack . With new and old music there is something for everyone to love . Overall 10 / 10 : SMG2 is an achievement that could have only been accomplished by Nintendo . Analysts wonder why third parties have such issues with selling games on Nintendo platforms , and this is the reason . Nintendo has such a high standard for their game developement that third parties just can't compete with the same quality . All I can say is Nintendo take a bow . You may have created the greatest game ever .

      • 035 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) When I first saw the trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2 ill admit I was dissapointed . The fact that Mario was still going to be running around in space made me believe that Nintendo got lazy and that this was really just going to be Mario Galaxy 1.5 But boy was I wrong . I just recently completed worlds 1 and 2 yesterday and here are my two cents : The creativity that went into the level design is flawless . They are just plain fun to play . And the levels arent too easy either which is a plus ! I was also able to use Yoshi which is extremely fun . In one of the levels you have to eat a chili pepper and navigate Yoshi through a vertical wall with various obstacles that get in your way , its pretty challenging because Yoshi runs at a crazy speed so its easy to fall off or get hit . But that only makes getting the star at the end of the level more satisfying . I was also able to try out the new cloud and rock mario power-ups . The rock power-up is pretty powerful and very useful to mow down enemies . You'll feel unstopable . And cloud mario is neat because you can reach high places . The controls are pretty much the same so anybody who played the first game can jump right in no problem . The music is also a nice touch . It will alternate between orchestrated or remixed old school songs from some of the past Mario games . I can keep going on and on about how good this game is but doing so will not do this game justice . You HAVE TO play it ! Forget what you knew about Mario Galaxy 1 and buy part 2 today . You have to play it to believe it .

      • 038 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) In 2007 , Nintendo released Super Mario Galaxy , their spiritual sequel to Super Mario 64 . It was praised highly for it's unique level design , fantastic soundtrack , and it's genuine fun factor . 3 years later , we come to Super Mario Galaxy 2 . It features great new changes to an already amazing formula , and is a blast to play . Super Mario Galaxy 2 completely forgets about what happened in SMG 1 , ditching the old observatory story and starting fresh , with Mario on his way to the Star Festival . And guess who's back ? Yes . Bowser . And guess what ? He wants Peach . So he attacks the festival in enormous form and kidnaps Peach . Mario then meets a baby Luma , who fans will remember from the first game . He ( she ? ) takes Mario to the sky , and he lands on a mini-hub world in the form of Starship Mario , a sort of Mario playground letting you take breaks from galaxies and have fun running around . From here , Mario meets a huge purple Luma thingie , and the game picks up . Like I said , the game ditches the hub world from the first game , and sticks to a traditional world map , like in side-scrolling Mario titles . This works great , and is much easier to navigate than the Comet Observatory . From here , Mario can enter galaxies . In each galaxy , there's about 3 levels , usually one from the start , one hidden one , and one level featuring a comet challenge . To get these comet challenges , one must collect the comet coins . There's one in each level , and once Mario has enough , the comet's randomly show up on the galaxies . Now onto the gameplay . Superb . If you thought the original SMG was good , think again . The sequel features not only 3 - D levels , but a host of classic 2 - D levels , reminiscing of the old Mario games . These are fantastic , and every level features intuitive level design , and each offers a new different twist . Mario's got a feast of new power-ups as well . Including Rock Mario , and with a shake of the Wiimote , curls Mario into a ball , letting him flatten and break anything he touches . Also new is Cloud Mario , my personal favorite , which lets Mario create 3 clouds which act as platforms , letting him reach new heights . Nintendo's also brought back Bee Mario , Boo Mario , and Spring Mario . Did I mention Yoshi ? He's back as well , and he's got a few tricks of his own . He can swing off of flowers , and eat enemies and spit them out . He's got 3 power-ups , including a Blimp Yoshi , a Dash Pepper , and a Light Yoshi , each offering unique things to the prized gameplay . There are also new gameplay mechanics such as flying with a bird , using a drill to drill through planets , and back from the original is the big rolling ball , and these are all welcome additions . This game is very tough , and I found myself dying multiple times . Thankfully , the game scatters Hint TVs around levels , and you can watch them and learn hints from them . I didn't use them much at all , but for new players it's great . Also , if you die a lot in a level ( and trust me , you will ) , Rosalina will show up and she'll show you how to get through the level , similar to the Super Guide in NSMB Wii . This is a massive game , spanning 6 worlds with about 8 galaxies in each . Once you have 120 stars , you might think you're done . But no , you must collect 120 green stars , offering a challenging way to keep you back for more . The controls are pretty much the same as the first game , and they work even better . In the original Galaxy , there was sometimes an awkward camera system , and this sometimes led to frustration . Thankfully , it's all been fixed in the sequel , and it never gets in the way of awesome gameplay . The graphics see a bit of an update from the original , but they're still not earth-shattering . The soundtrack is incredible , but not as good as the first game . These tunes will be stuck in your head for days , and that's not a bad thing . Galaxy 2 is incredible . The best Wii game to date . A must-have for any Wii owner , casual or hardcore .

      • 045 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) This is by far the best game ever created for the Wii . It is challenging , engaging , beautiful , and a lot of fun . I have not seen better graphics on the Wii . It is even better than the first game . The design of the graphics is the same but more polished and detailed . The levels are challenging but not SO difficult that it takes 10 hours to do one level . It is just right . There are also many hidden adventures that lend themselves to a more challenging experience . Also , love all the new power ups that Mario gets to use . ( Rock , Drill , Cloud , etc . ) Yoshi is back ! ! Yoshi brings a lot of fun to the game . Yoshi also gets some interesting power ups ( Balloon , hot pepper , etc ) The music is fantastic . I enjoy it much better than the first game . Overall I think this is a pretty much a perfect game .

      • 047 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) I loved the first SMG but this game is head and shoulders above it . Its not really a sequel to the first , on one had it begins in almost the same fashion , but without the adorableness of the original lost luma story or the ( much hotter than peach ) galaxy princess , who i think they removed because Peach couldn't handle the competition . But in general the begining is much more the point because SMG2 knows what its all about and doesn't waste any time getting out there , everything has been slimmed down to increase the awesmness ratio . As much as I loved all the little rooms and silly luma in the original , the first time through , after you'd been there once it got old , the new game cut the fat down to the core of Mario game-play joy and multiplied it by 1o fold . I can't say enough about this game which truly excels at what it is . to make the point , just consider how much it fails at what would be requisit for any game : sotry ? laughable , although I suppose that laughable in its most literal sense isn't a true fault . Role-playing ? Well a several points the character can choice between responses of : that's right and yes . But in this game thats all part of the fun because its like a theme park ride from beginning to end , and no one asks you then where your gonna go , but you know you'll love the ride . Chances are if your interested you know you like Mario games but maybe money's tight enough that of the bajillion out there , half-a-bajillion are great and which to buy ? Buy this one ! If you don't own the first and can't make time in your life for both , get this one , even though the first is great , this is greater . Don't own New Super Mario Bros Wii yet ? Get this instead . I guess what I'm trying to say is its special when a game can do what its always done so well , and do it better then you imagined it could , not since SM64 have I had this much fun with The Italian Plumber . Side note the game looks fantastic , even in SD , and Yoshi is so much fun you'll literally feel guilty about it , the tounge thing works perfectly on the Wii how did this no occur to them before ? All in all SMG is to 3D Super Mario's what Super Mario Bros 3 was to the 2D iterations

      • 060 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) ( As you read this review , keep in mind I am only about 20% of the way through the game ) + + + + Best features + Great graphics ! + Great controls ! + Yoshi is available ! + Unique levels & Power-ups ! + Some added features not in SMG 1 - - - - - The negatives - While there are some new and unique elements , it feels extremely similar to the first game . Personally , I was hoping for something that was a little more of a ' new experience ' but I find myself only being able to play in 30 minute increments before I get bored and have to turn it off . - The difficulty level seems to have decreased . ( Again , I am only 20% in , so perhaps it gets more difficult ) Final words : If you absolutely loved the first installment and you are looking for something very similar , than this is the game for you ! If you are looking for something a little different , chances are you will still enjoy the game but you may be disappointed by the lack of ingenuity compared to the first game . Enjoy !

      • 064 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) This is no glorified expansion . Many thought ( myself included ) that Galaxy 2 would be a simple cookie cutter sequel to Galaxy 1 . This could not be farther from the truth . Everything and I mean everthing has been improved . The gameplay , graphics , music , world navigation , level-design , variety , co-op , you name it . Remember playing Donkey Kong Country 2 for the SNES back in 1995 ? It didn't have the wow factor like the original Donkey Kong Country , but it was a sequel that surpassed the original in every way . If you can remember comparing those two games , you'll have a pretty accurate parallel of what to expect between Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 . Galaxy 2 is a top shelf title .

How do you create a sequel for the best reviewed game of the generation ? How do you create another Game of the Year based on the same engine , graphics and gameplay ? Well you do ! Pros : Yoshi More impressive integrated 2D levels ( as well as the great 3D levels of course ) More power-ups and tricks and platformer ideas Similar awesome gameplay of SMG 1 . . . and just as long Even better graphics , flawless framerates Better boss battles Even more epic music / soundtrack than the first Cons : Less story than SMG 1 - story was one of the epic features of the first . Still all right , and it just means you want to own and play both . SMG 2 doesn't make SMG 1 obsolete . Playing them both is a must for any serious gamer .

      • 090 4  This is certainly the best game on the Wii . It may be the best Mario game ever . Nintendo will have a hard time topping the incredible depth of this game . Every time you think it's over , there's more to do . The level design is practically flawless . The power ups are really cool , though I would have liked ice Mario to return . The game feels very snappy - the world map makes it easy to move from one level to another quickly , game overs don't force you to cycle through a bunch of menus . You just get to play the game . I can't really say much else - it's nearly perfect .

      • 099 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) For months my Wii sat getting dusty while I played on my 360 , but no more ! ! ! !

The levels are different , and the challenges are harder . It is great for a hard-core gamer , and a beginner . I was astonished by the great graphics and amazing fun . This game is the best Wii game by ALOT , and I mean it . Games do not get better than this . This games is a MUST HAVE for ALL Wii owners . The top game review sites ( IGN , Gamespot , 1UP ) give it a 10 . Super Mario Galaxy was great , this , is better . I would not hesitate , buy this now . • 116 4  This isn't just the best Mario game ever made - - It's one of the most perfect games ever created , and non-stop fun . The visuals are amazing , the music is terrific , the gameplay is sharp , and the creativity and imagination on display blow away everything that's come before . All the slow moments and minor problems from the first Galaxy game have been eliminated in favor of a hilarious , fast-paced epic that never fails to entertain . The difficulty level is just right . Yoshi's presence adds even more variety to the styles of gameplay . The boss battles are far more satisfying and spectacular this time around . Games don't have to be bloody to be awesome . This one's for adults , teens , kids . . . Anyone with an imagination , a sense of humor , and a love of pure gaming fun and challenge .
      • 120 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) In many ways , Mario really hasn't changed much from the time of scurrying through level 1 - 1 in 1985 . You still run as fast as you can to the end of the stage , stomp on enemies , hit powerup blocks and the like . But of course why change what isn't broken . Like the original SMG , SMG2 is a spiritual successor to Super Mario 64 . Once again , Nintendo uses their flagship mascot to put out a genre defining game . It could be argued to give SMG2 a lower score than the original merely because it isn't the giant leap forward the original was . I find this misguided . Mario has always been about pinpoint control and perfect level design , two things shown here in spades . There is not a single boring level and there is always something new to do . Be it reaching new comet coins , solving puzzles or any of the other platforming activities . The game is difficult . Not to breeze through and finish , but to find every star and comet coin . This allows a gamer to feel accomplished after breezing through a selection of levels while finding enough to do for the hardcore gamer . Its the perfect mix . No , it isn't HD graphics , but the art design is beautiful . Simply put , some gamers have abandoned Nintendo because they feel they have outgrown Mario and the cartoonish ways . However , they are missing out because Mario is still consistantly the best games available . Amazing game .
      • 122 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) It was great ! I like that it has Cosmic Guide ( like super guide in Super Mario Bros WII New Super Mario Bros ) . I am new to the Mario Galaxy and I love it . It makes it a lot easier to have a second player because he / she can freeze almost anything for as long as they want and collect star bits and even coins . Yoshi is really fun because you can shoot stuff by : step 1 grab a spiky turtle step 2 point the arrow that appears step 3 press B

      • 124 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) I havent touch my Wii for abour 4 - 5 months and this game finally made me play it again for hours so that's saying alot !

      • 131 4  Mmk . First of all , I'm sorry if anyone disagrees with my rating , blah blah blah , it's my opinion , not yours . Now that I stated that , here's what I think : To me , SMG2 isn't as good as SMG1 . I don't know why , but SMG1 had an intriguing storyline . And the worlds seemed so creative . In the sequel , the worlds weren't even NAMED as cleverly , and each galaxy was so small . . . and short . I remember the first time I saw Galaxy complete ! in SMG2 . Three stars . I thought Seriously , that's it ? Too short . Longer is better ( that's what she said ) . The world map . I hate hate hate hate hate hate this . HATE IT . WHY , NINTENDO , WHY ! ? The hub in SMG1 was so much better and broke away from the classic Nintendo feel . The hub really added flair to choosing the galaxy you'd travel to next . The world map just makes the game seem smaller and doesn't give you a sense to explore . It's just like woooo . . . I opened another galaxy . - flicks over to it in one click - You know what , I bet little kids couldn't get to the higher levels in SMG1 , so they just made it easier for them to get to the new ones . So I'm gonna blame them for that , ready ? THANK YOU , SMALL CHILDREN . The big fat purple star is funnyyyyy . But Rosalina was a much better hostess . Lubba ( I think that's the star's name ? ) just seems too clueless about everything , whereas Rosalina was all-knowing and mysteriousssss . So yes . Rosalina > Lubba . Always and forever . : D The new power-ups are rad . The cloud flower , rock mushroom , and drill were great additions . But while adding new stuff , they took away the COOLEST ( no pun intended , har har ) power-up ever ! THE ICE FLOWER ! I looooooved being able to wall jump between two waterfalls , or skate across the water . But no . They had to rip the ice flower OUT of the game . Luckily the new power-ups compensate for a great loss . The comets . Srsly wtf . The comets stick to the galaxy in this game . It's too easy to access the their challenges . In SMG1 , it wasn't all like A comet has appeared ! - cute little jingle - It was like - zoom out - HOLY CRAP LOOK AT THAT MASSIVE YELLOW / PURPLE / RED COMET THAT'S CLOSE TO THAT GALAXY . And , if you didn't complete the challenge and got a different star , that comet would disappear until another time . Hehe . It really added some fun to it . But no . They decided to play nice in SMG2 . Nice is not fun . Everyone likes when Nintendo is mean . : ] Purple Coins . I had a love-hate relationship with these babies . I hated them at the time . But now that I look back onto it , I miss them . They kinda made a comeback . But only a little bit . Weak . They should've put them in every world again . Yoshi . I hate him . I've always hated Yoshi . I don't know why . He just doesn't seem like he belongs in galaxy . It's awkward . It's all like Yay , I got a star . Hey Yoshi , go die now . I used you for what I needed . They should make Mario ride a bike instead . Bahahaha . That'd be better , in my opinion . OVERALL , I feel that SMG1 was far better than 2 when it comes to game quality . SMG2 feels like another money-maker and just like SMG1 . . . They should've just crammed it all into one . Then this wouldn't have been such a disappointment to me . Oh well . I'll accept their game . It's still good , just not as good as the first . Sorry .

      • 136 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) This game , for the most part , is quite neat ! Overall , I mostly agree with the majority in that it has good graphics , great music , and great challenges . However , these 3D Mario games may defeat their purpose very shortly if they don't eliminate some of their retarded aspects . Although , I myself , am not too far into this game yet , I've already developed some complaints about it . Mostly minor ones that still don't damage the game much now , but may eventually damage the whole Mario Genre if the 3D Games don't improve upon them soon ! When I finally got this game , I mostly liked what I saw ( even if not too vastly different from the first Mario Galaxy ) . I appreciated some of its new features , such as putting Yoshi in the game , the spaceship as opposed to just standing in a room and selecting galaxies , the fact that the ship wasn't just handed to you so quickly , and the expansion on two dimensional gameplay . However , some of the things I didn't about the first Mario Galaxy Game are STILL here : - Firstly , the star bit collecting is a bit tedious and mostly distracting . It definitely seems as though ( just like the previous game ) I'll eventually end up with more of them than I can handle before long , and they will just end up as distracting bubbles on the screen . Though the star bits aren't really a big issue , it leads me to a bigger complaint . . . - 1UP's are NOT enough of an incentive for completing challenges ! For a game to continuously toss 1UP's at people constantly is a feeble-minded cop-out operating in the vein of the Crash Bandicoot Game Series . What even makes this more absurd is that anytime you die in the level , you lose whatever coins you've collected , and your coin-count goes down to zero ! ( This occurs even if you restart at a checkpoint . ) In essence , this means that this game is operating under an extreme contradiction ! In one sense , it tries to encourage you too die a lot by tossing one-ups at you everywhere you go , yet at the same time , tries to discourage you by taking away all of you coins ( yet , for some reason , the star bit count always remains the same ) . For a game to operate in such a conflicting method shows carelessness on the part of the designers and leads me to another point . . . - The coins themselves ! which do not appear to even serve any function in the game at all other than to refill your health ! Does anyone know what other function the coins even serve ? I'd sure like to know ! After successfully playing and beating Mario Galaxy 1 , I was never able to determine what other purpose the coins even served ! In any other Mario game , the coins actually have some function besides refilling health , but these Mario Galaxy games just put the coins there mostly for the sake of just having coins in a Mario game . ( After all , what's a Mario game without coins , right ? ) When Mario completes a level , I have no idea why the game counts off the coins along with whatever other items it counts off , but usually my coin-count is never very high , because I'm too busy making use of all of those highly desired one-ups ! It would seem to me that this Miyamoto fellow would have done better to make the coins serve some function in the game , such as purchasing items in a store . That would definitely be a good addition to the 3D Mario experience . Why not even give Mario an inventory ( like in the Zelda games ) without overriding the game with too much detail ( like in the Paper Mario games ) ? ( SOME function would be nice ! ) At the same time , DO NOT take the coins away from Mario when he dies ! At the very least , let him keep whatever coins he earned up to the checkpoint ! The funny logic of this game is simply that , it throws one-ups in your face right and left , yet discourages dying at the same time by making you lose your useless coins ! Unless these loose ends and lapses of logic get straightened out , the Mario Genre will eventually begin to lose popularity . Overall , I still think this game is pretty good , and still believe that I will enjoy it . But , I likely will be more reticent about purchasing another 3D Mario game if these logic errors are not corrected . I also sort of wish that Mario could act a bit more like how he did in the Original 3D Platform , Super Mario 64 ! In this game , he seems a bit more like a cheap parody of himself or something like that .

      • 141 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) Let me start by saying I have not played through the entire game but I have beaten the first galaxy . I basically got up to the hot pepper yoshi stage , died 5 times , and become incredibly frustrated and turned the game off . I never had this problem in galaxy until I beat the game and did the optional levels . The first warning to the frustration came with the first world , where I noticed it was rather difficult as a warmup . The level structure of galaxy 2 is quite a turn off for me . Galaxy 1 felt epic like you were in another world , galaxy 2 feels more like NSMB with it's world map structure . There are more bosses and the game is more episodic in nature . There are frequent checkpoints that keep reminding me ' hey this is a level ' . Galaxy 1 had seemless checkpoints ( with no indicator ) that made me forget I was playing a ' level ' . Great new ideas in this game and they are executed well , like the new mechanics with yoshi . Yes galaxy one was easy , but it was just so much fun . The frustration I'm experiencing with this game make me not want to play it . Nintendo obviously listened to criticism from the first game and upped the difficult , but in turn decreased the fun .

      • 151 4  So far I'm not that impressed with the game . It seams exactly the same only not quite as cool . Game designers make a quick buck off of making identical games , because the system is already in place , just change around a few things . . . release . . . cash in the check ! I still enjoy the game , i just fell like i'm in a time machine and i went back 3 years when i played the old game .

Sunshine made a huge leap in a new direction of game play mechanics ( water used to clear some levels or get you to specific areas and progress ) . Galaxy turned everything upside down and made 3D platforming interesting . It bucked the traditional method and flow of how the Mario series progressed . Where as on the 2D systems , NES & SNES ( and GBA / DS ) you had movement , but it was still on a sole & single dimension . They just added more of something ; more suits , more friends , more enemies . More of more . But , it was still the same . THAT was attributed to technology limitations and I totally understand . With the 3D systems ( N64 and on ) , technology was no longer an issue . It was all about refining the controls and mechanics on how we move through the 3D game play space . 64 , Sunshine and Galaxy leapt as time progressed . SMG2 has not leapt . Super Mario Galaxy 2 is to SMG1 , what Super Mario Brothers 3 is to Super Mario Brothers 2 ( or rather Super Mario Brother 1 ) . You are getting more of the same - which again , is GREAT if you want that . But , when you are used to getting something like SM64 , after Super Mario World . And Sunshine after SM64 . And Galaxy after Sunshine - you HAVE hit a wall with SMG2 and gone back to the ' moar is gooder ' model of game play mechanics and progress . I DO NOT WANT THAT . You may want that . And , that is great . I want the leaps we have all experienced from 64 to Sunshine to Galaxy - you are NOT going to get that with SMG2 . Because you are getting more of the same thing . If you are content and happy with more of the same , than this game is for you . For me , it is not . SMG2 is a step back into the old way Mario games were progressing - just give them more . For some ' brainless ' series , that is great . It works really . Like the Resident Evils and Metal Gears . Where each sequel is more and more of what gathered success for it's previous release . Because they are more about story and style , than gameplay mechanics . Mario is about gameplay mechanics ; NOT about story ( how many times can a princess get kidnapped ? ? ) ! So , they rely on gameplay mechanic progression on many dimensions and layers . Whereas Metal Gear / Resident Evil makes slow progressive movement / improvement on gameplay mechanics and BIG movements on story ( upping the horror , story twists , style , etc . ) Mario 64 bucked that tired system of progress . And , with two titles after that , it seemed we would never have to deal with it again . Instead , we do ; it's called Super Mario Galaxy 2 . And , it's more of the same . Enjoy it - because I am not .

      • 159 4  It's a shame really , I grew up on Nintendo systems . The Wii came along and I tried really really hard to like the system . Super Mario Galaxy was the only game that made the Wii worthwhile . So , Super Mario Galaxy 2 seemed like an obvious purchase . I was wrong . It's more of the same . The leaps and bounds the 1st SMG took are not here . I don't feel the excitement I did with SMG2 , as I did with SMG1 . If you have never played Super Mario Galaxy , please be sure to pick up 1 . I unfortunately can not recommend Super Mario Galaxy 2 . There are plenty of people who feel SMG2 is just fine ( and they will make themselves vocal ) , but personally , I should have passed . Make your decision after you have played the 1st one . And , be warned if you are on the fence to buy the 2nd one - it's more of the same . Which , may very well be something you are looking for . Good luck and happy gaming . = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = EDIT : below is a much more deeper explanation as to why I am so ' harsh ' on this game . = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Super Mario 64 made a huge leap . • 165 4  It's a shame . . you have to use the Nunchuck , which make it Hard and controllers are annoying It is difficult to control the Character and many times you are not sure where you should be going . This has to be one of the most BORING games I've ever played.I really hate this game .
      • 166 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) Hello Amazon people , this is my review of some Mario game .

    • Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) The first Super Mario Galaxy is perhaps the greatest game for the Wii .

      • 030 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) I have only recently returned to consoles , tempted by my wife's Wii this Christmas . In the past NINTENDO has made a number of bad decisions yet the company always manages to land on its feet for nothing else but for a single reason : it never forgets that gamers want first to have fun . And SUPER MARIO GALAXY II is an excellent example . The Wii console may have been made such a huge success story by applications such as Wii-FIT , but it will be remembered for the fun it offers with games such as this one . SUPER MARIO GALAXY II makes the Wii shine at its best . Princess Peach cannot seem to stay . . . un-kidnapped more than a week , so her faithful plumber has to move heaven and earth to save her - yet again . . . But do we really need an excuse to dive in this galaxy of magic mushrooms , star-bits and coins , secret levels and surprising solutions to , apparently , insurmountable obstacles ? The levels blend beautifully 2D and 3D environments and the controls work superbly . I hadn't touched a console since my University years and had to get used to the controls of ZELDA : TWILIGHT PRINCESS - yet found the controls of SUPER MARIO GALAXY II to fit like a glove from the very first moment . This installment is not one you can breeze through , there are challenging moments . If you get stuck in a level you can ask for a mini-tutorial - but keep in mind that there is no free lunch in this galaxy : your need for assistance will be marked . Then again , retrying a level was never more fun . There is invincible Rainbow-Mario , Rock-Mario , Spring-Mario and Cloud-Mario . And then there are Lumas and Yoshi . Every world has been imaginatively designed and gorgeously drawn . It is like a supernova of creativity exploding again and again . I believe this to be the best looking game on the Wii . And it is THE BEST PLATFORM GAME EVER ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

      • 055 4  This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) I've only played this game for a few hours and already I'm in love with it .

Sorry .

Sorry .

    • Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) This isn't just the best Mario game ever made - - It's one of the most perfect games ever created , and non-stop fun .

It even has a feature that allows the CPU to take over and pass certain obstacles , for the children . Though , Nintendo should probably add voice acting next time , the children playing this will probably have a hard time reading all of the text . Solid 5 out of 5 . - - SIKE ! ; D

    • There is no other company that could pull off the quality of gameplay that Nintendo does time after time .
      • 008 4  There is no doubt about it that Super Mario Galaxy remains as one of the most defiant games for the Nintendo Wii . Graphics : A Sound : A 1 / 2 - Control : A Fun & Enjoyment : A Overall : A
      • 018 4  This game is truly spectacular . I love this game and it is my favorite 3 - D platformer game of all time
      • 026 4  Where to begin with this amazing game !
      • 034 4  Super Mario Galaxy 2 is quite an acheivement . • 041 4  So far so good . I completely beat the first SMG with both mario and luigi and am super stoked to beat this one . I am very happy with the game play it is even better with the addition of Yoshi and new power ups . I can't wait to get deeper in the game . I would definately recommend either of the super mario galaxy games .
      • 044 4  After playing Mario Galaxy I knew that this sequel would be just as entertaining and fun to play as the previous game and I wasn't mistaken . So rejoice fans of the Mario gaming world another great game has come out for us to enjoy once again . . .
      • 096 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Super Mario Galaxy 2 ( Video Game ) In all honesty I haven't finished the game yet , but from having played it for a bit , I can tell you that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a great sequel to the original Super Mario Galaxy . It plays very similarly , so if you played the original extensively , you'll have no problems here . Some of the important ( and positive ) changes include the use of a world map , Yoshi , and more diversity in the levels ( there's a nice sprinkling of 2D-esque levels in the mostly 3D gameplay ) . The World Map is a particularly great addition , since all the levels are in one compact place compared to the original when they were all over the place on the ship so you don't have to spend valuable time going from level to level . It is a little weird that the term World is used describe a collection of galaxies , but my guess is that it's for continuity sake with the Mario franchise and you don't notice it during gameplay . Yoshi's presence is welcome of course and gives the game a brighter feel than the first one , but for those of us who aren't as accustomed to using the pointing feature of the Wii controller , there is a little bit of a learning curve ( I wish you could just use B to stick the tongue out instead of having to point and press B ) . And finally , the gameplay is as strong , if not stronger than the original . . . which is what you want in a sequel . If you liked the original , you'll love Super Mario Galaxy 2 and if you haven't , but enjoy bright and fun adventure games , you'll love it as well . Highly recommended .

      • 121 4  In many ways , Mario really hasn't changed much from the time of scurrying through level 1 - 1 in 1985 .
