Street Fighter IV

  • 036 4  The game of Street Fighter sure is a legendary one and something that has a fond place in the hearts of many gamers . The super Nintendo was what made this game famous and now Street Fighter makes its first leap onto the next generation of gaming . What made Street Fighter so famous were its easy playability and its general simplicity , but the coolness of the more memorable characters was the icing on the cake . Some of the sequels following its initial debut were disappointing to say the least as they sought to try and make the original formula better , but let's be honest ; you can rarely improve upon perfection . Street Fighter and Street Fighter II were easily the best of the series up to this point . Any in between are easily forgotten about . So it was with much trepidation that Street Fighter IV was heard by the ears of many old school fans asking please not another torturous piece of garbage . Little did they know that Capcom were planning to go back to through the traditional route and returning to the idea of simplicity and fun , but adding to the awesome imagery of the past . It also planned to bring back a lot of the characters who were discarded by Street Fighter 3 and told the makers of that you can't get rid of the coolness . The game itself tries very hard to return to the traditional feel of the past games , but also to bring it up to date so it would look fitting for the PS3 generation . The 6 button fight system and the 2D platform fighting format make a very welcome return , and thankfully they don't try and take it to the 3D fighting experience and just have it be annoying . The fighters are designed with an anime style cell shading which gives them both the cartoonish image , whilst maintaining a 3D next Generation appearance . The fighting backgrounds are entirely 3D and are immensely detailed and add a lot to the whole experience . The fighting is something very enjoyable indeed as the game is very responsive to a persons ' button mashing ways and I certainly found myself hitting any and every button and pulling off an amazing ultimate combo . There are of course the combinations that you can master in order to pull off these moves once you've filled your Super bar to an acceptable level , but if you're like me , you'll just hit any and every button until something really cool happens and it will eventually , I promise . The main roster of characters is drawn straight from Street Fighter II and has a few wonderful additions to its roster . Abel , the French amnesiac . Rufus , the fat American and Seth , Dr . Manhattan on LSD . In addition to a few others of course . The collector's edition to this game , contains a 65 minute anime film called The Ties That Bind which could possibly explain the beginning and end anime scenes from the arcade mode for each character . The arcade mode is simply a way of fighting through a number of wonderful foes to reach the dreaded Seth . He's a really tough one to beat I must say . The game also contains a challenge mode which consists of Time Trial and Survival for both Normal and Hard difficulty . They can be a chore , but are certainly a good way of helping you become familiar with the game so you can become ready to take on the legendary Gouken who can only be unlocked through a certainly difficult and complicated manner . The online mode is pretty simple but offers certain awards that will certainly convince you to give it a darn good go . You can unlock a number of badges and other particular awards , and also accrue a number of points for every impressive win you pull off , meaning you can progress through the ranks and become the best of the best . There is absolutely no lag in the gameplay from what I noticed and even if it recommends you only connect to those with a superb online connection , I had no problem connecting to and playing those who had a terribly low connection . I've only managed to win one online match so far . This is a highly enjoyable game with lots of replay value and a high addiction capability which I'm sure will have many complaining relationships have broken up because of it . I would highly recommend it to those loyal fans of the series and it's certainly hard to imagine that it almost didn't get made .
    • 030 4  Prepare to have sore thumbs , ' cause Street Fighter is back . The series is popular for a reason , it's just plain fun to play . The special attacks are relatively simple to pull off , and the characters are all extremely well balanced , so no fighter has any innate advantages over the others . Winning is based purely on the skill of the player rather than the character they chose . There's an nice roster of characters to choose from , so it's fairly easy to pick your poison and get down to playing , especially since most characters have more or less the same moves they always did . Graphically , the game is a wonder to behold . Capcom did an amazing job bringing the animated characters into 3D . Everyone looks just how you imagined they would , and the detail involved is great . Even the backgrouds are filled with motion . Likewise , the soundtrack is also good , updating some old favorites and throwing in some new songs to boot . The new characters add some flair to the game , and the animated opening and ending cinemas for each character , while not very long or detailed , give a little more insight into the storyline than usual . If you pay attention , the stories coincide , giving the game a united storyline . In all , Street Fighter IV is simply an incredible game . However , the game does have it's flaws . Street Fighter IV is not kind to the casual gamer . I've played every Street Fighter since Street Fighter 2 on Super Nintendo , so I'd like to think I'm a decent player . I popped in the game , picked Ken , and played the game on Medium difficulty . And the computer won . Over and over again . Even on the easiest difficulty setting available , the computer can be merciless . You'll be winning sometimes and other times you'll hit a stage and the difficulty will spike . Suddenly you can't beat this one opponent no matter how hard you try . After about dozen losses , you finally get lucky and win . Then you reach the final boss , and you probably know already that true to form , he's a cheap little sucker . The focus of the game has also changed from easy-to-create combos to the new focus attack system . Theoretically , one can string together long combos by cancelling moves with focus attacks and then dashing to do another move . Challenge mode offers Trials meant to teach the player to use this system , but the combos it calls for can be all but impossible to do for those of us who aren't pros . Be prepared to spend a very , very long time practicing . That means sore thumbs and cramped hands for the casual gamer . In all this is an excellent game , one any Street Fighter fan should own . The difficulty of the computer and the complexity of the combos are a bit tedious , but with a lot of practice you should be fine . Besides , I always had the most fun playing Street Fighter with my friends , and I'm sure this game will be no different . On another note , Super Street Fighter IV , an update to the game with new content , is going to be released soon . You might prefer to get that version when it releases .
    • 043 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This Game is the best 2D Fighting Game I've played and the best part is that you press the ps button and can play you own music . I like the game music but my selection of music is even better . Think of it like this you can play SF4 with Little Big Planet music . If you have a PS3 you need to have this game .

    • 191 4  It's like being a kid again , I remember that before this I've played SF Alpha in Sega Saturn so it's been a long time since my previous SF . I loved this game , you have many options to attack , graphics are good and online playing is fun . If you played any SF before you can't miss SF IV !

  • 056 4  This is a really good fighting game . It brings back everything that was good about the old street fighter games and add some new possibilities . The reviews before mine are very detailed on all the games features so I won't relist all that . The videos are not stupid , just made for all ages . You have to expect that on this kind of game . Otherwise sales would be limited to adults if the game was too harsh . I think it is well done overall . In fact it has more video and cutscenes than I ever expected in this type of game . I will say that it is about time the game companies realized that gamers want to play games like this . The use of 3d graphics is tasteful and the game feels more polished off . The 2d gameplay is great . We were left waiting for good games like this when the 3d revolution came about . About time one came along , Killer instinct on N64 was the last 2d fighting game close to this good . I would reccomend getting one of the arcade sticks that are available as soon as you can after getting the game , if you want to get good at it . The game is a button cruncher and the d - pad / buttons wear my thumb out quick . Also some moves require more than one punch / kick button be pressed at once . This is more easily pulled off with the stick controller as more fingers are available to push buttons with . At any rate , I am glad to own a NEW game this good . I think many SF fans will be happy . As the other reviews mentioned I'm sure there will be more editions of this classic after this one . But hey why wait , enjoy it while it's new and get good at it before everyone else does . This one's gonna be played for a long time to come .
    • 086 4  It was good to see that SF4 made it to the PS3 . It looks great , plays great and in my opinion will give Tekken 6 a run for its money . Being a Tekken die-hard follower , playing SF4 was still fun no matter how many times you down-forward + heavy punch . 20 + years classic . . .
    • 186 4  I was playing street fighter since the 80s . It was always my favorite game of all time . However this is the worst one they had come out . Graphic was too cartoonist to a point that it looks rough ( all characters pack up with too much muscle looks fake ) . This is 2009 with a platform of PS3 , I would have expected something alot better . This game lacks new moves ; you can find the exact way of playing ryu as usual except this game response more akward . They even canceled some of the nice combo connections you can perform from the previous SF . Over all I played this game under suprise which gave me none .
    • 196 4  Graphics are great , sound is great , but controlling your character is tricky unless you purchase the very , very expensive arcade stick . It is next to impossible to defeat any skilled opponent online using the PS3 controller ; it's just too difficult to execute any special moves using the PS3 controller .

  • 068 4  Yep . . The Old is New again . . this is what 2 players fighting game should be all about . . . 2D plain and simple , but all the extras make it very competitive . . The moves are challenging but not confusing like 3D fighting games . . . Although this can be a better game , it is the best Street Fighter ever ! ! ! The only complain I have is the online fighting gets kind of hard to find a fighter without having to refresh every time . . Sometimes you have to wait so long to get someone to fight you . . Really good game , but would not recommend this to people who don't like to repeatedly playing the same thing over and over again . . . .
    • 074 4  The Street Fighter series always seems to be the most challenging fighting game series to me , and this entry is no exception . Even on the easy setting , this game can be a litle tough . So the game isn't easy ( even on easy ) . The game looks beautiful and proves that a true Street Fighter game should stay 2D and it really works . Overall , fun and beautiful , but also hard . Casual gamers beware , you may become frustrated .
    • 131 4  This game is mostly like the rest of the street fighter but with 2D / 3D graphics ( I know that didn't make sense but you'll see what im talking about ) . The story mode finally has animated cut scenes instead of just comic strips like the previous SF games . The character's featured here are mostly familiar , but you'll see a couple of new faces . Overall Street Fighter 4 isn't all that bad . So pick up that credit card buy this game and like the trailer say's . . . . Lets Do This ! ! ! !
    • 157 4  I've traded my copy in because this is a frustratingly difficult game . I hadn't played Street Fighter before though I do enjoy other fighters ( Soul Caliber , Tekken . . . ) For me , this game was not worth the time and effort needed to be able to get to a point where you can be competitive and enjoy it . The moves are really hard to pull off and I have no desire to spend countless hours perfecting them and getting overly irritated in the process . I played the single player for a couple weeks and then decided I have enough other games that I actually enjoy playing so I traded this one in .
    • 184 4  Just got the game today , so far I haven't been dissapointed . The online matches run silky smooth . Theres an option in single player mode , where players can challenge you to a online match while you are playing a single player match . I'm very impressed with the graphics , and I liked the fact that they kept this a 2D game . Its probably more enjoyable on the PS3 than it is on the 360 just because of the controller .

  • 225 4  This game seems to forget about people who just want to have fun , not memorize ultra touchy and complex controls . I bought the game with the idea that it would be a cool casual game i could play every once in a while . After playing it for a few hours I still can't beat more than a few opponents on easiest . I'm not interested in figuring out all these complex move since the computer doesn't seem to actually be easy for casual players like me . This game only caters to hardcore players and ignores anyone just wanting to have some fun . If you haven't played street fighter much in the past you will hate this game .
    • 038 4  This is the best fighting game of all time . Ever since streetfighter 2 hit the scenes there hasn't been a fighting game to come close to it's characters personality and gameplay . I'm so glad they stuck with 2d . Mortal Kombat was ruined ever since they turned it to 3d . Still I think street fighter as a side scroller is much better than MK as a side controller . Must buy !
    • 066 4  What there more to say ? If you love SF3 you will love SF4 . I just got it yesterday and I love it . I highly recommend it .
    • 094 4  This is one of the best games of the year , the graphics and gameplay are awesome , the controls are super responsive and the charcters are well polished and detailed . Fans of the franchise old and new will surely appreciate the amount of time capcom put into this one . I highly recommend this to all those looking for a old skool coin op figthing game with a dash of next gen classic .
    • 117 4  The game is not bad . It's just not great . The controls are hard to master and in doing so the game becomes very monotonous . The most value is in playing with friends . I haven't played online but as a solo game it really is lacking .
    • 168 4  If you like fighting games , how can you go wrong with the series that started it all ? I love the stylized look . This is also the perfect party game cause just about anybody and just pick up the game and play .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) First of all , I consider myself and intermediate + SF player ; I've been playing the SF series since the first SF2 arcade hit my local bodega here in NYC . I have to say I'm very disappointed at SF4 , as much as I want to love it ; it's just a mess . Here is why : 1 : Although the main intro scene looks spectacular , the story line cut scenes are animated so poorly ; to me they look like Sponge Bob Square pants quality . Why couldn't they give us the same animators who worked on the Animated Movie , which by the way was made at least 9 years ago ? It's 2009 and you couldn't at least give us that quality ? Go to option and disable cut scenes for Christ Sake . 2 : New characters are NOT visually appealing except for maybe Viper , I'm not even talking about the moves , its 2009 and they couldn't render these characters better ? Why does the new FAT @ $ $ belly moves like jelly [ by the way , this is disturbing ] yet you don't see any movement on Viper's breast ? Why does balroag looks like the Hunchback of Notre Dame ? I'm not staying on this subject anymore . I'm annoyed . 3 : Network Connectivity : I enabled the ' interrupt me while playing the arcade mode ' so that other humans out there can challenge me , BIG MISTAKE , I'm constantly interrupted by guys who have the worst network connection ever , Why couldn't they filter or allow us to filter guys who have a horrible internet connection ? Nine out of 10 new challengers ' connections are bad ; therefore you spent 80% of your playing time LOADING these unsuccessful matches . Very bad . You are stuck fighting the CPU my friend . Hopefully local users buy the game too . Combos and special moves : I have been playing street fighter games for a long time , but not ever have I played a street fighter game that gets my risk tire so fast . The moves are hard to pull off , combos are too stressing . . It's not FUN . . . Playing three matches is the same as playing 10 Rockband / Guitar Hero songs [ in a row ] . . . . Also , I wish combos hits could link faster , don't expect to pull off combos very often What I like about it ? Graphics are not that bad , although the characters look cut out from the background , and the sounds effects are great although the announcer is really annoying . Prediction : This game will be a hit for the first 3 Months , then it will become some sort of RETARDED DROP OUT ; you will see a million returned copies at your local Game Spot store . And the SF HD version will be at the top of the list again . I would put money up on this too . . . .
    • 057 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I was a teenager when SF2 came out and I spent a lot of time and money playing it in the arcade . Back then having an arcade at home , or being able to play it via a modem was just a dream . Now that dream came true . First , Street Fighter 4 ( SF4 ) is similar to Street Fighter 2 ( SF2 ) in terms of gameplay . If you have played SF2 you'll have no problem adapting to this game . On the other hand , some people think that it is kind of a remake of SF2 . That's not true . It has much more depth ( ex moves , cancels etc . ) and more advanced gameplay . It is called SF4 for a reason . Second , if you are planning to buy this game only for single player ( against CPU ) , I suggest that you rent it first or borrow it from a friend . Also if you are new to Street Fighter , again I advise caution before buying it . Getting the intracacies of this game takes some time . If you want to play it casually , you might get frustrated or bored . But if you put the time to get the basics , and then start playing online you'll get hooked . You'll come across experienced players who'll destroy you , but that only means you can see and learn new tactics which you can't learn by playing against the computer . About the online play : Be sure to play against people who has at least 3 bars in their connection status , an it will be mostly lag free . Also I found that creating a room and waiting for other players to join is much easier than trying to join other rooms . When I try to join , I get the unable to join or the room is full messages a lot . However , if I create a room I barely wait more than 15 seconds for someone to show up . If you enjoyed street fighter before , then there is no reason not to pick this up . Get a Fighting Stick and you have the same addicting arcade experience at home . If you have never played a Street Fighter game before , then buy it if you are willing to put time and effort in it .

    • 213 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I really hate to rag on a game that has good graphics , but this game is just plain annoying . I've never really been a Street Fighter kind of gamer ( I followed Tekken more ) , but I figured I'd give it a shot since I don't yet have a PS3 fighting game . And boy am I glad that I rented this game . As I stated earlier the graphics are really cool , but the game play its self kind of pisses me off . Don't get me wrong the fighting is cool and all , but when your opponent uses the same move 100 times it gets real old real quick ( and I'm talking about arcade ) . I wanted to play an online match before I wrote this ( to see if that was a redeeming quality ) , but there's no one on ( now I'll be the first to say that it might just be a slow night ) , but those who are on have terrible connections , all 3 of them ( and my internet isn't too shabby ) . I know Sun Tzu said use your strength ( I think ) , but the CPU characters were just ridiculous . Basically , I'd like a little more variety in this sort of game . This game I'm sure would be fun with a bunch of friends over , but as a mess around fighter , no . If you like this kind of game that's cool , if not that's cool too . But as for me I will definitely not be buying this game . Sorry to be a little long winded .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) First off , to dramatically improve load time between fights and overall performance you need to install this game to the ps3 hardrive ( not default behavior ) Goto - > Options - > System Settings - > Install - improves load times to 2 - 3 seconds . PROS - very nostalgic and all moves you knew from the arcade still work in sf4 - the graphics are amazing in HD and really bring the game to life - new focus attacks , special / ultra combos add new life to series - many more new characters to learn , master , play with - very balanced gameplay - playing with friends online w / mic support is awesome and seamless - fun , addicting ranking system online - challenge modes offer unique play CONS - cut scenes are ridiculous and should be avoided - unlocking characters is hard and cumbersome ( there should be more than one way to unlock characters . . . based on matches played or something ) - i have a very hard time joining games online ( either lots of bad connections , game full , or game error messages ) - no mini-games = not alot of depth ( this would have been a nice touch like destroy barrels etc from sf2 ) would have added more depth to this pure fighter - top boss very difficult to beat even on Easy setting ! Overall a very fun game but it will take practice , practice , practice ( casual gamers beware as this game will take practice to learn and master moves , do not expect to pick up this game and own people based on your previous knowledge of sf2 ) . I was frustrated at first too but I waited to review this game until i had put in some practice time and it really pays off and becomes a lot more fun . Great addition to the series .
    • 005 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) The local game is amazing , great graphics , and the fun fast Street Fighter gameplay that we all love . The problems start when you go online . Unless you're ready to study the millisecond timing of moves , combos , counters , and weaknesses of every player , then don't bother , because there are too many people out there with waaaay too much time on their hands who will kill you every time and suck all of the fun out of the game .
    • 061 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This is coming from an old fan of the series . And in this game one thing stands true . Your mileage will vary . Pros : The 3D graphics and backgrounds are a nice touch since it is on new generation consoles , and the animated cut scenes are pretty good too . Two of the new characters I can stand , El Fuerte and Crimson Viper . And they keep the classic movements intact . Cons : Some characters , I'm looking at you Rufus , are not balanced very well in my opinion . Rufus is just too fast for his size , no man that large should be able to move like that . And the new Ultra moves could have been taken out and replaced with one or two more super moves . This might seem contradictory , but I liked how Third Strike pulled the single super off . But IV just dropped the ball and did too many changes for my taste .

I liked this new game as well as the graphics but it is too hard for an fan old player . . . Maybe an young 15 yo will find it okay but they have exaggerated on the difficulty . But it's fun . . . I play once a few weeks .
    • 187 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Great Fighting Game . Eaisly accessible and playable . Great for first time players and for experienced ones as well . Graphics are excellent and controlls very responsive . Would recommend this game for both children and young adults . Excellent for fans of the series . Presentation of game great and menus eaisy to use . Many fun characters in game to appeal to everyone . Game will also appeal to fans of Japanese anime as there are many in game movies in anime style . Many times I have bought fighting games and became frustrated with difficulty level . But this game has many difficulty levels to choose from so you can play at your skill level and enjoy the game . Excellent balance between challenging and fun to play .
    • 218 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) good game but i think Soul Calibar is better becuase in this game the screen only focused in the players while on soul calibar its focused on both players and the stage moving in all diection in street fighter just one direction . other thing the moves in street fighter are very hard to do the super mover while in soul calibar its quite easy .
    • 236 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I am one of the old school 3rd strike / Alpha gamers , they gimped the game completely changing the counters , and play style of the game . Overall its something new and completely different , but in another aspect they kinda destroyed the concept of street fighter 2D fighting concept . Def a great game to rent and play , but not worth spending 50 dollars on . Die hard street fighter fans I guarantee you will be disappointed , they took out like 1 / 2 the moves from the characters and buffed up EX moves . Had they kept consistancy of regular gameplay it would have been a better product . But thats just my opinion , judge for yourself .
    • 246 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Dont get me wrong this is a good not great game with flaws but I only give it 1 star because there's nothing but Street Fighter 2 characters on here with the exception of a few Alpha and new characters . Where's the assigned stages for each character ? What happen to all the special moves that each character used to have which is like at least 3 instead of just 2 and some characters used to have like 4 or 5 like Akuma ! Street Fighter franchise in all aspects is the best fighting game of all time and part 3 along with Alpha 3 was the best ever made in my opinion because it stood out and different from the rest . The same with Capcom vs Snk 2 was the best rival game capcom has made . Where's Elena , Ibuki , Makoto , Hugo , Dudley , Akex , Yun and Yang , Remy , Twelve , Q , and Urien , Deejay , Eagle ? At least Elena , Ibuki , Makoto , Hugo , Dudley and Eagle should of made the cut or even some ex characters should of made the cut like Karen even though the ex series were disappointing . How come Capcom want ever release another version of Fighting Evolution to redeem itself over the disappointing first one ? Where's Capcom vs Snk 3 ? I just hope this game is not the only version and hope to see future upgraded versions with more depth and characters just like in the past with previous Street Fighter games and also hope this is a fresh start from the dead with more rival games in the near future

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I am an expert on Street Fighter of course , that's why I bought the game the first day it came out . Pros : - Gameplay is easy . The game provides training options and challenges for each character . - There are achievements and unlockable characters to test your development with the game . - 4 new characters were created for the game with different gameplay . - Replay value is high above average . The game is great with friends or playing online more than playing alone . - Graphics for 2D fighting is above average and acceptable . - Same use of controls as of the old street fighter series . - Special moves are well integrated to the old moves . These moves are available when you fill up your revenge limit while taking damage . It gives the player a good incentive to get back to the game when losing . - Special moves are used by pressing all 3 kicking or hitting keys at the same time . Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 controllers provide that function more easily than previous console systems . - Online gameplay provides players a great and addictive ranking system . - Audio is high above average . Cons : - I miss DeeJay , Thunder Hawk , Rolento , Garuda , Darun and Eagle . am I the only one that thinks that they should have added at least 6 more characters ? - Movies ( endings and special introductions look cheesy to me , short and pointless ) They all don't add up to a common story . - Player starts with 16 characters available and should unlock 8 more characters . Time consuming to unlock all characters . - Do you miss mini games while playing arcade mode ? Trashing cars , blocks , barrells , etc . . . - I really dont like the announcer . - Have you seen the price for joysticks and pads for PS3 and Xbox 360 ? I am an expert with Akuma , Ken , Sagat , Dhalsim and Garuda , so basically I play this game a lot online . I would recomment this game for people who want to spend some time in the game and learn on it . Don't expect to be good at it after a week . There are several combos , attacks and tricks that I yet learn every single day on the other characters . My goal with this game is to be an expert player with at least 5 other characters . Good luck to all

    • 031 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Graphics : 10 / 10 Sound : 10 / 10 Game Play : 10 / 10 Fun : 9 / 10 ( After awhile it just seemed repetitive , it would have been a lot more fun if you could play with a friend ) I highly recommend this game to anyone . My girlfriend is not a gamer but she likes this . So if you liked previous SF games then you would love this .
    • 220 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I have both system and i bought both versions of streetfighter 4 , but first i have to say i bought both systems because i love video games and i try not to sound or be bias in anyway for the videogame community.Ok let's start . . the first thing i noticed between the PS3 and the 360 is the PS3 loading time in between fights is about 10 to 11 seconds ( I based the loading time on counting the blinking Player 2 sign on the upper right corner ) it maybe sounding nit picking but 10 to 11 seconds for a fighting game ( especially streetfighter ) is kind of long ( i didn't say way long ) . im not a fanboy and im trying to be unbias as possible . i am just trying to inform the game community about the differences between the PS3 and the 360 streetfighter 4 versions . 360 loading time ( in comparison to the PS3 ) is about half the time 5 to 6 seconds faster . good luck gamers i hope my review helps others ( and like me who has both systems ) .
    • 237 4  I am one of the old school 3rd strike / Alpha gamers , they gimped the game completely changing the counters , and play style of the game .
    • 240 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I think I have seen better graphics on Playstation 1 games . The moves are cheap as ever and this game has too few characters to choose from . The soundtrack is horrid with a R & B singer doing the intro . This game is a pathetic attempt at a game by Capcom , especially for their flagship franchise . Needless to say there have been some really excellent fighting games in the Street Fighter series such as EX 1 + 2 , Super Street Fighter 2 , Marvel VS Street Fighter , etc . This is one of the worst I have seen .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I have been playing Street Fighter since the first one came out in the 1980s . Of course Street Fighter II was a rare phenomenon when it arrived and practically created the fighting genre . In fact it was so popular that it had a hard time moving on to a third iteration . By the time SF3 came out in the late 1990s interest had mostly waned . Well , time passed and rereleases were the rule . But , someone at CAPCOM finally had the initiative to try again . The best thing about SF is the fact that it is tournament quality in every respect . If you lose , it's not the controller it's you . It's incredibly balanced and polished and when you do well it's a reflection of your skill level . This is what makes it satisfying overall . If you want an easy , mainstream fighter see Soul Calibur . Graphically I hope that you will not go by screenshots alone as they do not display the incredible dynamic lighting and artistic ink splashes that inhabit every moment of the fight . The animation is very fluid and you can tell that the artists really tried to bring the original designs into 3D . They succeeded on every count . In fact , I wish they would have used the in-game engine to tell the Arcade mode story rather than the terrible anime animation . However the animation is not the focus of this game , the fighting is . Sound wise it's superb with options to toggle original Japanese for all spoken dialog and in-game sounds you really have it all . The soundtrack is not quite as legendary as SF2 but that's simply because it was the original breakthrough hit . And we tend to look back fondly on nostalgic games . Breaking it down , this is a fighter for a serious gamer who desires to truly test his / her mettle . The game is fun to pick up and play and hard to master if you want to truly own your character . But , unlike many of the modern games out there it harkens back to a time when skill was measured by how much time you invested . The more you play the better you get and before long you begin to understand why SF has a rabid following of fans . And a game as great as this , that is obviously a love note to the fans who stuck with it over the years , should be adored as a rare treat .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I just purchased this game used at gamestop and I thought I was getting a great game since i missed every street fighter after ex plus alpha . Pure disappointment . The graphics are beautiful ! But the gameplay is awful . Same moveset , Even worse , the ps one street fighters had more special attacks , moves , and characters . I played the game for 3 hours and just got frustated . I am pretty good at street fighter but Zangief is a cheat on this game he endures attacks and then grabs you repeatedly and its hard to stop . And for the new moves they said the characters had all capcom did was add a cinematics . I repeat this game is a rip-off and you are better off getting TEKKEN , marvel vs capcom 2 or any other street fighter from the ps one series , any tekken will do excluding 1 and 4 . The graphics are phenominal . The controls are the same as sega genesis controls . Meaning if you know how to do a hadoken with Ryu on sega , then you will know how to do one on ps3 . Street Fighter IV lacks character selection . This game has horrible combination selection , because it's so basic for a next gen console . You cant even side step , everything is up , down , left or right . I will get my refund tommorow . In conclusion this game gets a two rating just because the game was created with so much hype and the graphics , everything else is just below average ! , Ps you will never go wrong with Tekken . Great characters , great movesets , lots of moves , counters , and graphics . Tekken for life !

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I rented this game off of gamefly , and for the ( very short ) time I had it , it was fun to play . I love the characters , the backgrounds , the challenges . . . . Yes , I relish a challenge in a game . The challenges will keep you playing , and the online matches are lots of fun to play , even when you're getting your butt kicked . You earn titles and icons as a way of identifying yourself to others online , and it can be very addicting and easy to just sit and play against other people online for hours . When you complete arcade mode with a character ( Seth pisses me off ) , you unlock videos and new characters . I only got to unlock Cammy before sending it back , but the unlockable characters look fun to play . Overall , I'd say it's a really fun fighting game , and the anime sequences can be fun or funny to watch , but honestly ? My favorite parts were the opening video and the credits , haha . Get it if you like bashing people's heads , or as I prefer , electrocuting people with your zap suit . It really is good . Favorite characters : Chun-Li & Crimson Viper
    • 003 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This game is a ton of fun . However , should you want to play with the extra characters in the upcoming , revamped Super Street Fighter IV , you might want to think about holding off on your purchase for a while . Super will NOT be a DLC add-on but a new disc-based version , so you'll have to re-buy the game to get Super . Further , Super will probably launch at below the standard $59.99 . Food for thought . . . . Fight ! !
    • 023 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Thanks capcom for locking two of my favorite characters , So now I have to try to beat this extremely cheap boss who can teleport and cheat left and right . I think this whole locked feature thing has got to go away . the way soul calibur does there locked feature system is with money so you actually have fun playing the game racking up money and then trading it in for characters and features . but not in street fighter 4 , they made the boss so f - - king cheap and you have to beat him if want to unlock all the hidden characters , I think thats bulls - - t . so f - - k you capcom . With that huge flaw aside the game is actually very very good .
    • 033 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) this game is good ! the special moves are not that hard . Many are pretty easy . . . Ryu's special the slide from down to forward done twice , then any punch button . . . easy peasy . The graphics are nice , they are cartoonish , but SF has always been slightly more anime , for a more serious look , get MK . The online play is HARD , everyone there knows their stuff , so practice a TON before getting in there . But , honestly , the game is good where it counts : entertainment , it's a really fun game , I'd definately recommend to anyone .
    • 039 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Street Fighter IV returns to the old formula of kick-assery , and there's only one word that can best describe how great this game is . . . awesome . Controls are tight , animation is smooth , and it graphically is good , too - - even though graphics aren't that important . Must buy ! Oh , and check out Madworld for the Wii . . . it rocks !
    • 045 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I haven't played a Street Fighter game since SFII on SNES . Those were some good old days . I heard how much it has changed since then so I wasn't planning on getting this game until my friend started hyping it up . He told me that it had the old SF feel so I started looking at Youtube vidoes and never looked back . This game made me realize why I loved Street Fighter so much . The graphics are great and the moves seem much easier to execute . Playing online is a bit laggy but fun none the less . Gonna be playing this game for a while .
    • 051 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I remember the first time I played SFII . . . it was and still is one of the greatest fighters out there . My brother and I would play it for hours . I generally enjoyed the later releases but nothing touched SFII . With that said , I was skeptical when I first saw Street Fighter IV . Granted , it looked great but I wasn't too confident that it would feel like the old days . Despite my reservations I bought SFIV yesterday and was blown away . It feels so much like Street Fighter II , yet has been improved upon with not only the graphics but fighting system and moves as well . The new additions offer a more dynamic fighter experience . It's great to use the same old moves that are familiar but it's hard to beat landing a well-timed ultra combo . The online play is the other great feature . Arcade mode is fun and all , but the real joy is testing your skill with other players . Whether you are an old school SF fan or just getting into it , definitely buy Street Fighter IV . . . it's well worth it . P.S . . . . watch out for some sore thumbs .
    • 075 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) overall this game is great its really fun.the only thing that kind of sucks is that you need the joystick if you want to do well online other then that i recommend this game for everybody who likes this franchise.its like having an arcade in your own living room .

    • 093 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This is one of the best games of the year , the graphics and gameplay are awesome , the controls are super responsive and the charcters are well polished and detailed . Fans of the franchise old and new will surely appreciate the amount of time capcom put into this one . I highly recommend this to all those looking for a old skool coin op figthing game with a dash of next gen classic .

    • 105 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I was a huge SF II fan back in the day , and when I heard that this game was coming out I was very excited . Well I wasn't disappointed when I got my copy . This game is simply amazing ! My favorite ps3 game so far !
    • 113 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Like all the players and reviewers say , the sound and visuals vastly improve on prior iterations of the Street Fighter series . I like the variety of ways to practice your skills via challenge and training modes , and the sheer volume of unlockables ( characters , costume colors , titles , character actions , etc . ) reward a gameplayer's growth and experimentation . If you're a casual player as I am and just use the stock console controllers , your learning curve will level off quite low . Unless you have exceptionally nimble thumbs , a good arcade stick is absolutely essential to pulling off the combo attacks that will beat average-to-advanced opponents in arcade and online modes . Good thing my friend owns this game . I say again , you won't go far in this game without a stick .
    • 115 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) The game is not bad . It's just not great . The controls are hard to master and in doing so the game becomes very monotonous . The most value is in playing with friends . I haven't played online but as a solo game it really is lacking .

    • 124 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) SF IV is a very nice fight game , good dinamic , combos , etc , much better than SF III , but unfotunatelly the system lose many features since SF Zero , there is only one special for each character and the last boss it awful , completely lack of creativity , Seth is ridiculous , in his lore , conception and drawning . I'd prefer Gil much more . Dispite the history mode and Gouken that is Horrible to play with , SF IV is a very nice game in Versus mode .
    • 126 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This Game is awesome and it looks great on my LED TV . The game is even better than I remember it from when I was younge .
    • 132 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This game is a lot of fun but playing with the regular PS3 controller is very frustrating , especially if you are playing against a human online . Its next to impossible to pull off combos and super using the regular controller . Ultra combos ? ? ? forget it , its just not happing without a joystick . The other problem is that the joysticks are very expenisive , the good ones anyway . Oh and good luck finding one . I went to several stores and several places online and no one has them . They are available on Ebay at a premium price though . $ [ . . . ] for a joystick ? ? ? ? I don't think so . Overall the game is very fun and it is a must for all Street Fighter fans .
    • 136 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This is a fun way to relive the old Street Fighter experience with up-to-date graphics . I liked Borderlands better , but for a good time feel free to call on this title .

You will need to practice a lot to get used to the game buttt you will have a lot of fun . . pluss it has a lot of challenges , , , so you will not beat it in 5 hours . . .
    • 145 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I love street fighter , I love this game too , but . The last character is the cheesiest character I have ever seen . His name is Seth . I honestly don't think they put much though behind him . They basically said , OK well have a diesel manikin guy with a circle on his stomach . lame ! All his moves are cheesier than cheese . the insane Teleporting , the fact that he can keep grabbing you no matter what . using other peoples attacks . I despise Seth even his name is not exactly a bad guys name . They messed it up with this guy . However buy this game Is the best ( The gameplay is basically the same except for the new ultra combo finishes ) . I been playing it non-stop but I hate the blue mans group manikin at the end .
    • 155 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I've traded my copy in because this is a frustratingly difficult game .

When I actually played it and went through the training modules for it , I was impressed . I've played other Streetfighter products before and was amazed on how this one was totally different from the others . It has alot of replay value in my opinion and I am still unlocking various items within the game . I have been a Streetfighter fan for a long time and I am very happy they brought it back with style .

    • 195 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Graphics are great , sound is great , but controlling your character is tricky unless you purchase the very , very expensive arcade stick . It is next to impossible to defeat any skilled opponent online using the PS3 controller ; it's just too difficult to execute any special moves using the PS3 controller .
    • 199 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Overhyped and not as great as advertised . The character designs and animation could have been a lot better . The design and movement of the characters are sloppy and choppy for a nextgen fighting game . What really annoys me is that song during the menu screen . I tried turning off the BGM , in the options menu to no avail . You can still hear it in the background at the lowest setting . SFII Remix HD is the best version you can get at the moment in my opinion .
    • 203 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) this game is so cool , i can actually beat many people in this game , the game is so much fun .
    • 207 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I am not sure exactly what I was expecting here , but remembered loving Street Fighter II back when it was on the SNES . Well , not much has changed since then . Capcom has done a nice job of updating the look of the game but not much more . They have added a couple of new cast members that bring little to the game that wasn't already in place years ago . I know what made me love the game back then , but am wondering what Capcom has done to keep the love alive . I am afraid at this point this is a venture in nostalgia and little more . I am disappointed with this venture into Street Fighter . [ . . . ]
    • 209 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) So far the game is ok . Reminds me too much of the older versions and so far I don't see much new . Not impressed with how few characters you start out with and wish they had done more with the costumes . The moves so far are what I remember which is nice but hopefully I will unlock more new moves . Will update my review afer a week or two .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) If you LOVE Street Fighter , and all you ever want to do is play the Street Fighter Franchise , then you will LOVE this game , because it's by far the most complicated and best looking game of the series . And I mean complicated . . . there are hundreds of commands now ; many of which are virtually impossible to enter unless you practice them over again and again . However . . . if you are a gamer who likes to play a variety of games , or if you're not a serious gamer , then you'd better read this review and think twice before buying Street Fighter IV . Let's look at the both the positives and the negatives of Street Fighter IV . First of all , Street Fighter IV looks great , despite the fact that it uses a very strange combination of 2D and 3D graphics which it melds together into some awesome comic-book-ish fight scenes . The characters all look GREAT too , just like they walked off the pages of a manga . The game looks especially good on an HD television with HDMI connections . It's by far the best looking game in the series thus far . The second positive is that there are some really cool new characters in the game which could have added a real dimension of fun and playability if not for all the problems with the game . . . which we will discuss next . Now for the problems . 1 . Street Fighter IV is still 2 - dimensional game play . You fight going back and forth across the screen , and are unable to maneuver in any manner other than jumping over your opponent or their attacks . The big strategy here involves trapping an opponent in a corner and destroying him / her with a rage attack . There's no sequence of hitting and blocking , dodging and maneuvering like in a real fight . . . just jump . . . trap . . . unleash the super-combo and kill . It's all over in seconds at times . . . which isn't all that much fun . 2 . The blocking system is stupid and simply doesn't work that well . Even when you do block you still get really really hurt . . so why bother ? Just memorize the attacks and smash the other guy before he / she smashes you . Forget blocking , jump over the opponents attack , trap him / her in the corner , unleash combo and kill . ( Too bad real fights don't work like that . ) 3 . There are now simply too many moves to master unless you spend HOURS doing so , and many of them are overly complex because the animation is still only in 2 - dimensions . 4 . If you are trying to unlock characters , the computer CPU cheats to increase difficulty . This is a very archaic form of programming that results in an insanely tough Boss at the end , even if you play on easy mode . The Boss inevitably cheats throwing moves faster than any human could in an optimalized pre-programmed devistating sequence . To make matters worse , some of the more powerful hidden characters require almost flawless game play to unlock ( i.e . no repeats or continuations . . . you must win every fight , and having to win at least one perfect match to finish the unlock sequence . ) NOTE : this is because Street Fighter IV is an arcade game . . . you ultimately win by hours of game time played . . . not by skill . Just like slot machines in Las Vegas . . . arcade games have a random sequence of smart and dumb programs . . . which makes them pay off after so many hours . You win here by FINALLY getting the boss to play his dumb program . Perhaps the WORST thing about this unbalanced way of programming is that you can work your way all the way up to the end of the game playing flawlessly and still have the boss cheat and kill you . Once I got up with a bunch of perfects and thought this is it only to have the Boss cheat , magnetize me , then pull of his weird energy suck attack which killed me in seconds since it's impossible to block this . That was it . . . I didn't even have a chance . Because the Boss now ran his best program it was game over . More modern games have a skilled Boss who fights with a personality and powerful style rather than relying on a cheat sequence which enters commands rapidly . However , the WORST thing about this kind of archaic Super-NES-era programming is that occasionally the Boss ( or a particular character ) has a glitch which makes it possible for a particular kind of character to beat him EVERY time no matter what he does . As an example , I fought El Fuerte with Ryu . El Fuerte has a specific flaw in his programming which allows Ryu to hit him no matter what . I killed El Fuerte in three hits . ( More sophisticated games like Soul Calibur IV get around this by maneuvering in three dimensions and making their blocking systems work and actually making different styles have different advantages as in real life . ) This draw-back in 2 - dimension play is why everybody ( everybody except Street Fighter IV ) went to 3 - dimensional play styles . 5 . Special attacks are virtually impossible to pull off for many of the characters during combat , rendering many of them useless against the Boss . 6 . There is no real skill involved in this older style of game other than pushing buttons really fast , and hitting the D-pad or moving the stick in a bewildering series of numerous patterns you have to memorize . Since you are fighting in 2 - dimensions , you can't maneuver like in a real fight . Basically , what you are doing in Street Fighter IV is animating a 2 - dimensional movie by inputting scenes , as opposed to Soul Calibur IV where you are fighting a 3 - dimensional simulation of a fantasy battle in a spatially real world . Summary : If you LOVE Street Fighter and this is all you ever want to do , and you simply love memorizing frames of animation , then buy this game because there are now literally HUNDREDS of commands to memorize . Because the characters are now so insanely tough , there will be hours and hours of frustrating game play ahead trying to unlock all the hidden characters . However . . . if you have a life or if you also want to play OTHER games that might approximate a real life 3 - dimensional fight better then don't buy Street Fighter IV because it will be a frustrating waste of money and time . If you still want a good fight game which is challenging to master but more rewarding as far as game play goes , then I suggest you get SOUL CALIBUR IV and forget this frustrating , button-pushing Otaku nightmare . NOTE : Soul Calibur IV can be frustrating too in the Tower Mode but that frustration is NOTHING compared to the feeling you will get while playing Street Fighter IV . And you can play Soul Calibur IV and never do the Tower . Also Soul Calibur I。
's Apprentice character cheats too . . . but unlike Street Fighter IV you can beat Soul Calibur IV and never have to deal with fighting the cheating Apprentice character . And if you're thinking about buying Street Fighter IV to entertain your kids FORGET it . All those cute Manga characters loose their charm after a couple of hours of frustrating game play involving rote memorization of hundreds of commands . My Grand-daughter almost threw the controller after about a half-hour of play , watching Chun Li get killed again and again by Seth . No matter what my Grand-Daughter did , or how fast she did it , Seth either dematerialized , or magnetized or fried Chun Li virtually every time Chun Li was on the verge of winning . To her credit my Grand Daughter put the controller down , said , This is a stupid game ! and switched to Soul Calibur IV . I agree with her . Street Fighter IV is obviously the American manifestation of the Japanese Arcade Game which is why it is SO hard . . . in other words the game in Japan is designed to CLEAN all your money out in the arcade , so it's insanely hard . Street Fighter IV is obviously designed for Japanese Street Fighter Otakus in the hopes of cleaning out every last Yen they have . Many people in the USA think that Otaku simply means fan but in Japan it's actually quite offensive to call someone an Otaku . It translates like being something between a geek and a obsessive-compulsive . So if all you want to do is play Street Fighter for the rest of your life , then by all means buy this game . . . because it's a great time waster . But . . . if you want to have a life , or want to play some other game other than Street Fighter , then don't waste your money on this . . . buy Soul Calibur IV which is a way , way better game and is also much , much more fun . In closing , I actually feel that , despite it's more primative graphics and game play , the ORIGINAL Street Fighter was a better game than this newer more sexy version . . . at least the original game was playable and fun and required some skill other than button pushing and mindless rote memorization to master . It was possible with some work and study to use any character in the old game and still have fun . Sad to say . . . NO MORE . You'll be lucky to master one or two characters at best in this new Otaku version of Street Fighter .

    • 198 4  Several things wrong with this game . The 3D character models are good , but not great . For a 25th anniversary and highly anticipated sequel , the character models just don't seem perfect . The fighting moves are good , but it feels like something is missing . Also Street Fighter 4 lacks a tight fighting system . I enjoy Street Fighter 3 Third Strike and Street Fighter 3 Alpha a lot more because of the fluid animations and tight fighting system . The graphics are good and clear though . But the backgrounds are boring , and don't make much sense . There is a background that I fought Sagat in , and there were kids running around in the background . Other backgrounds are uninspired , and looks like they were put in as a last second effort . The energy bar has a weird curve to it . It seems like it is a programming flaw , but it was intentional . It just doesn't look right . However , there are a good number of fighters , all the originals from the Super Street Fighter 2 games , plus four new ones . There's an arcade mode , versus mode , and time trial / survival challenge mode . A game like this should have integrated a World Warrior mode similar to Soul Calibur 2 where you travel through different areas and develop different super moves , etc . The four new characters are terrible and their animations are not fluid or practical . This game is just very disappointing from what I expected . I got tired of playing it after a half hour . I can't play it more than a half hour when friends come over . The fun factor just isn't there . I will stick with Marvel vs . Capcom 2 and the other better fighting games . STREET FIGHTER IV gets a rating of 5 out of 10 .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Ok so I'm reading a lot of reviews that point out the complexity and sensitivity of the controls . When I first purchased this game when it came out , I had to backorder the MadCatz Fight Stick . I agree , that this game without the fight stick is impossible to master . The directional pads are just to strenuous on your thumbs , and the sequences are beyond difficult to hit on just the regular controller . I got frustrated , and put the game away in my library for 3 months . Then one day , the fight sticks arrived at my door , finally off of the initial stock back order . Since then , this game has produced some of the most entertaining times for my friends and I . Moves that were mild-difficult on the regular PS3 controller became easy and the harder moves actually became possible with some practice . It's like anything else : If you put in the time , you will get results . The game becomes deeper as you become a more experienced player . Sure it's still fun if you want to throw it in once in a while and have a couple of fights with friends , but the real imagination and art of this game unravels the more you play . Take my advice and get the fight sticks along with the game .

I have been out of the SF scene for many years , I was so pumped up for this game I felt like a kid again . My only gripe is Amazon's failure for the Collectors pre orders and controllers . If I had known that Amazon could not fulfill their pre-orders I wouldnt have had to run all over town to find the game and controller , that pisses me off . But this is a game review , and as far as the game goes . BUY IT NOW .

    • 232 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I have to say I'm very disappointed with Street Fighter 4 . Sure , the graphics and overall presentation are awesome , and the controls are tight . But , the computer opponents are so cheap it's unbelievable . Even on the easiest setting . Doesn't Capcom know that easy is supposed to be EASY ! The final boss is impossible . He teleports all over the place and has moves that are unblockable . If your able to play online against human players , I guess it could be a fun game . But the single player mode just isn't fun .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Prepare to have sore thumbs , ' cause Street Fighter is back .
    • 099 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Street Fighter IV finally accomplishes what I think Capcom had been trying to do for a very long time . . . integrating 3D fighting into an artistic 2D experience ( all while keeping the game control / feel like the original ) . I think that's why they were finally proud enough to call it Street Fighter IV instead of calling it Street Fighter 3 Alpha . . . Beta . . . Delta . . . Turbo . . . Super Turbo , or whatever : ) With that idea in mind , I think they succeeded very well . The game is very smooth , has great control , is visually stunning , and plays very much like the original Street Fighter 2 . The only thing that seemed to need some ' polishing ' was the ending credits . Perhaps it was their intention to keep it simple . . . but I think they could've done much better . It didn't seem to be up to par with the intro video or the visual quality of the rest of the game . If you're a fan of the Street Fighter genre or just fighting games in general , you'll have fun with this game . Here are some quick pros and cons : Pros : - Stunning Graphics - Great Control - Fun to play Cons : - Not much new - It's not challenging enough ( medium level is pretty easy ) - End credits are not very . . . satisfying ( Not up to par with the rest of game ) - long load time before matche begins and rematches . Conclusion : This game is pretty much what it seems . . . it's Street Fighter 2 in 3D but with a 2D feel with a few new characters thrown in for good measure . Capcom accomplishes this very well and the game is fun and looks really great . If that's what you're expecting , than you're sure to enjoy this game . If you were looking for more ( like more creativity or originality ) , you won't find too much of it here . This game would appeal most to old school gamers who played the original and are nostalgic about playing their favorite game with a slightly new look .
    • 107 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I'll say it now : I am NOT a fan of fighting games . I never got into Soul Caliber , Tekken , Mortal Kombat etc etc etc . In fact , before this game the original Street Fighter 2 was the ONLY fighting game I ever enjoyed playing . Street Fighter 4 takes everything the original Street Fighter 2 was , polishes it up with next-gen graphics and smooth controls , and throws in a few new fighters for you to play with . The thing that I love most about Street Fighter 4 is the controls . To me the current 3D fighting game controls seem sluggish and trying to do super-powered moves is a pain . In SF4 the controls are not only tight , you'll find yourself amazed at how easy it is to pull off some fancy moves and set up combos . Also , it's nice that EVERY character has their own unique controls so you never feel like you're playing the same fighter twice . One more thing I should mention is this is very much a 2D fighter and controls as such . The graphics as I said are very flashy and up-to-date . The characters move smoother than your average anime and every facial expression is captured perfectly . Everything just moves fluid and looks natural . If there was a bad thing to mention about Street Fighter 4 , it would be the story . . . . or more how it's presented in Anime cutscenes . Not only do the characters looks NOT match up to the in-game designs , the voice acting is terrible and badly written , and the story adds nothing to the game what-so-ever ( assuming you can even make sense of the cut-scenes ) . Each character has their own intro and ending cutscene , but not a single one is memorable or worthy of mention ( actually Dan has a mildly amusing one , but nothing to write home about ) . Street Fighter 4 looks great , is easy to get into and is an absolute blast even if you're not a fighting game fan .
    • 242 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) i've played street fighter games in the past infact i'm one of the lucky owners of a dreamcast copy of marvel vs capcom 2 . the thing i find interesting about this is that ken fights darn near exactly the same as he did in mvc2 , infact most of the characters have the EXACT same moveset as they do in the other iterations of this series minus a few moves and oh yeah with a graphics upgrade comes less characters than we've seen in sf since the first game of the series . also the AI in this game takes all the fun out of a mediocre fighting system . on the normal difficulty , i got beaten on the third level by an AI who used just the ability moves , didn't throw a single punch or kick the whole match , and say what you want about skill level and ability thats not fun to deal with . but being a good sport i cranked the difficulty down and figured i'd work my way up . on the very first fight chun li spent the whole match crouched down throwing attacks whenever i got close enough . again , i don't care what your opinion about my ability is the AI being designed to fight like that is unacceptable . of course after playing it online i learned why the ai fights the way it does . after 3 matches online i officially gave up . there isn't a thing fun about this game it's all a competition to see who can fight the cheapest . the graphics also are pretty crap , yeah i know the whole cel shading thing is a style , but i've never liked it for certain aplications and doing a whole game cel shaded is never a good idea . you wind up with what looks like lazy animation no matter how much work you put into it , and in this game it just looks cartoony and silly . overall i'd say if your a street fighter fan get one of the other versions , it's the same fighting for a lesser price and you'll get more characters for your trouble .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Pros : Updated graphics New characters It's a new Street Fighter ! ! Cons : Poor controls Annoying soundtrack Lacks Street Fighter charm Watered down gameplay feel Not many new innovations I was really excited about the emergence of a new Street Fighter game after being part of the entire early 90 ' s SF2 Arcade hoopla as well as all it's official and unofficial remakes , Alphas , Supers , EX's , Marvel tie-in's etc etc ( long time SF fans know what I mean ) . After the release of Street Fighter 3 in the late 90 ' s I was even more excited . I wondered how can they possibly outdo the genius of SF3 ? ? Truth is - they didn't . Upon first looking at the screen shots and synopsis ' of SF4 , I first wondered if this was a true sequal or simply a Street Fighter 2 remake ? I mean , it's basically the same deal as the release of Super Street Fighter 2 - bring back all the original characters and introduce 4 new ones . Granted , in SF4 , plenty more are unlockable . But it doesn't end there . The big problems lie in the fact that there really isn't anything new Capcom has brought to the table . . . not only that , but they actually managed to make the gameplay slower , clunkier , less responsive , and nowhere near as skill-based as in SF3 . And WHAT IS THIS about no bonus stages ? ? ? ! ! No more beating up a car for bonus points ? No more breaking piles of barrels or parrying basketballs or ANYTHING of that sort that were staples of earlier SF games ? ? ? What were they thinking ! ? First thing's first most gamers will notice - the controls . As all PS3 owners know , the L2 and R2 triggers aren't simply buttons anymore like the Dualshock 2 ( ps2 ) , but triggers that depress even longer and pressure-sensed optimal for actions games like FPS shooters . Playing SF3 : Anniversary Edition on my PS2 is super crisp and responsive , yet playing SF4 makes my controller feel clunky and broken . The L2 and R2 buttons literally LACK RESPONSE about 50% of the time ! I mean , I'll be crouched , I'll hit the L2 button to sweep and nothing will happen . Plus , pulling off Ultra-combo attacks which need you to push these triggers also only work half the time - you'll literally sit there trying them over and over mid-match because the D-pad just isn't responding quickly enough . Why is this ? ? ? ? ? Weren't SF games always known for their super-crisp controls ? ? ? I think I know the answer - the SF Tournement joystick controller . This new controller can be purchased separately ( well , for a hefty price considering they're no longer in stock anywhere ) and promises to give way better response ( as I've been told by friends who have the joystick ) . I'm sure it does - and it wouldn't surprise me if Capcom went out of their way to make the controls this clunky simply so that we'll all go out and pay another $150 for a joystick controller . Sorry guys , it's not gonna work on me , I'm not that stupid . Point being - the controls , while mostly functional , are a huge letdown especially since pulling off those super combos were always so much fun and I never had to worry about doing it JUST RIGHT to get it to work . Next flaw - the improved graphics . Ok , where in the world did the idea come to make these characters so cartoony and SUPER beefy that they don't even look healthy enough to be fighting ? ? I mean , you wanna make bigger characters , that's fine , but what's with the cartoony look with them all ? Close-ups make them look super exaggerated and somewhat retarded looking ( Ken appears to have some sort of birth defect , as well as others ) . Their muscles and bodies are way too exaggerated to be taken seriously , and the way they contrast with the backgrounds doesn't even feel real enough . There is no shadowing of any sort to make the characters look ANY different whether they're fighting night or day , indoor or outdoor - they all light the same , and feel more like cardboard cutouts than 3 - dimensional beings . I feel this game could've had the same look on the PS2 or Xbox1 . They may as well use the same background also because characters don't have their own personally set stages as in previous SF games . In the Championship mode , you simply don't get the FEEL that you're part of some grand tournement . That , plus the fact that you don't go through that many battles before you reach the end boss - Seth , who in SF3 had WAAAAAAAYYY more charm and character ( in older games , there were more battles giving you a more yea i did it ! feeling after you finally beat the game ) . In correlation with this - the sound has been greatly disproved . No longer do punches and kicks carry that OOMPH they once did - the hits sounds muffled and don't feel rewarding enough . Sure , it may sound more REALISTIC but SF games were never about realism like Tekken games . I want LOUD hitting sound effects , I'd rather not feel like I'm just punching a pillow . Along with more sound flaws , the music is downright terrible , nothing but a bunch of techno / electronic / house beats . The music does nothing to complement the atmosphere of where you're fighting . No more of the Sakura and Chun Li type cutsy music that brought so much atmosphere and charm to those old SF games . Which brings me to the next fault and probably the biggest flaw - the lack of SF charm . Back in the days of SF2 sequals and rehashes , there was always a certain charm to these characters , the way their stories were told and the way they fought and bad-a $ $ looks on their faces during fights and such , but SF4 seems to be missing all that . The fact that ALL the original characters were brought back IN ALL THEIR ORIGINAL OUTFITS feels more like some high school reunion rather than a true world warrior tournement . Was it really necessary ? ? Why is this a SF2 remake and not a REAL sequal like SF3 ? ? Sure , I know the complains from SF3 - that while there were all new characters none of them were very good to use . But besides that , SF3 really improved the gameplay , charm , and crisp feel of SF2 . The graphics were somewhat more cartoony but not super-exaggerated steroid-induced parodies of original characters like this game tends to do . Characters in SF3 had good and cool little details , like swaying clothes and determined faces . All the SF4 characters have are these goofy smiles that makes it look like their just there to have fun and be remembered - hey look at me ! I'm Chun Li ! ! remember me ? ! On top of this , SF3 also brought a great skill-based concept to the genre - the art of Parrying attacks . This was perfect because by tapping foward on the joystick the moment an attack hit , you could parry an incoming attack and have a split-second to respond . I felt this was a wonderful idea because it was easy for newbies to learn and also challenging to master for SF veterans . It's been stripped away in SF4 and instead replaced with a flimsy and tacked-on focus attack which is just tapping the two medium punch and kick buttons together to do an attack that can stun your enemy for a second , whereas you can hit him again if you'd like . It's more tacky than anything and really unnecessary . heck , if the controls were more responsive I'd be more excited , but considering I'm there trying 10 times to do an ultra combo and failing because I'm not rich enough to buy a $150 joystick I get stuck not being able to do half the moves because the game decides it doesn't want to respond well enough . In other words - they dumbed the gameplay down because they felt that parrying was too difficult ( which is ridiculous ) and now we're left with slowed down gameplay that is probably comparable to the original arcade version of SF2 ( before they sped it up with the remakes ) . Overall - while SF4 definitely is a good fighter with some fun moments ( 2 player and online play is good ) , it's really a big disppointment than anything else . Unless you're an avid Street Fighter fan and need all its releases and sequals , I'd say pick this one up ( or wait till the price drops ) , but if you're just a casual gamer looking for a fun fighter - I recommend SF : Anniversary Edition for the Ps2 and Xbox1 . SF3 not only plays very very similarly , it responds better and is just more fun overall . I should've bought Killzone 2 instead : (
    • 090 4  This is gonna be short . . . Remember when SFII first came out on the SNES ? Remember how all you wanted to do was play that game , EVERY WAKING HOUR ? It's Deja Vu man ! I Love this game I don't really see me getting tired of it anytime soon , plus everyone loves street fighter so you'll always have a match on xbox live ( or playstation network ) or at home .
    • 120 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) The first fighting game I ever played was Guilty Gear and I loved it , still my all time favorite . I played 3rd Strike sometime after and it quickly became a close second . I was deadly excited for SFIV and picked it up first day . I waited a while to post this review to see if this game would stand the test of time . While I do like this game a lot it doesn't really strike me as enticing as other fighting games . Graphically I wish they would of stuck with 2D , everyone looks so ugly in IV . Comparing it with other HD fighters recently released ( Blazblue , etc ) it just doesn't compare visually . The backgrounds look bland and polygonal ( I've played on all three consoles before judging the ps3 mind you . ) Secondly , the roster is rather bland , almost half the cast is shoto variant and just makes the overall variation bland . Again , comparing with GG and BB where every character is completely different it feels bland . C . Viper is a breath of fresh air and by far my favorite new character , Rufus is also interesting . As far as tiers go , it's fairly balanced by taking Sakura down to garbage tier because of her Alpha glitches was just mean ! = [ No replays is also a shame missing and the ability to not carry over saves is crap . I've gotten my data corrupted several times and it's only been this game that's affected . Plot is utter trash as always but there are a load of great quotes not meant to be funny but nonetheless enjoyable . ( IS HIBIKI SAN HERE ? ! ) The biggest problem I have with IV is the removal of the parry system from 3rd Strike . Focus Attacks , it's replacement , is just not the same and doesn't have the same awesome feel . The removal of air blocks is also something that makes this game extremely frustrating at times . Overall , a solid fighting game but they could of done better and added just a few little quirks to make it amazing . Another small point to make is the announcer is terrible and having an announcer is a fighting game is just stupid , I hate them at tournaments and putting them in a game is even more retarded . Plus he can't even pronounce half the roster . ( CHUN Li , like RUN , seriously is it that hard ? ) P.S I think Super Street Fighter IV will fix a lot of the problems I've cited above and I definitely look forward to playing it , JURI !
    • 122 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Having grown up playing the original SF , SFII in the arcades . . I've seen every iteration since then . This one definitely brought more to the table than the previous versions . The good : all of the fun is online . The Bad : All of the fun is online . I liked single player , unlocking stuff , etc . . But where you end up getting your money's worth is online . What I don't like about that is that I don't really like playing online very often . Matchups are nice and easy , not that laggy . . But if you like to play solo or with friends in your living room mostly this game might end up collecting dust on your shelf . The really bad : good god the intro and standard music is terrible and repetitive .

    • 197 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Several things wrong with this game .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Remember Street Fighter II ? The mere mention of it conjures up memories of days long past in arcades . It was both a phenomenon and a fad . A 2D fighting game with one eight-way joystick and 6 buttons , whose purposes were burned into the minds of everyone who played it . Jab , strong fierce , short forward , roundhouse . 8 colorful and varied characters representing the world's martial arts styles , and 4 boss characters doing the same . A game that became the ultimate test of two players against each other . Loser pays , winner stays . People spent hundreds if not thousands of quarters and tokens , and when the home versions were released , living rooms across the world were blessed with the cries of Hadouken ! and Sonic Boom ! It single handedly jump started the fighting game genre into high gear and was the catalyst for the revival of the arcade . Soon everyone had to have a fighting game too . Fighter's History , Martial Champions , Mortal Kombat , Primal Rage , Virtua Fighter , all of SNK's Neo Geo fighters were among the few that cashed in on Street Fighter's popularity . Then , the arcade scene slowed down , and fighting games pretty much went the way of a niche genre , just like shoot ` em ups ( shmups ) . Fast forward to February 17 , 2009 . Capcom will release Street Fighter IV onto the PS3 and Xbox 360 . Oh sure , there were other Street Fighter games along the way since the original II . But not even the Alpha series , nor Street Fighter III's pinnacle , Third Strike has had everyone talking about Street Fighter like it's 1991 again . Bringing back all the original World Warriors and bosses , 2 of the New Challengers , and four all new contenders plus some fan favorites including the infamous Gouken , Ryu and Ken's master , otherwise known as the infamous Sheng Long of the famous EGM April Fools trick , Capcom is giving the fans a very nice trip down memory lane wrapped up in more than just a shiny new 3D package . The character roster is as follows : Ryu Ken Chun Li Guile Blanka Zangief E . Honda Dhalsim Balrog Vega Sagat M . Bison Akuma El Fuerte Crimson Viper Abel Rufus Seth Gouken Cammy Fei Long Rose Sakura Dan To start : SF IV is the same 2D gameplay you remember . What's new is the 3D graphics , which sweep and zoom during certain specials and super / ultra moves . It's SF as you remember only better . With features such as new gameplay systems such as the Ultra moves where a gauge is built up as you take damage and when full , allows your fighter a spectacular come back Super move which allows even the underdog in a match a chance at victory . The Focus attack in a sense replaces the Parry system of SFIII but this time around , it isn't as difficult to master for the casual player . All in all , the gameplay is classic Street Fighter II but with added polish and a few new additions . Graphics : gorgeous looking , and must be seen in HD in person to fully appreciate . When the early artwork hit , and the first screen shots were released , many were not pleased with SF I。
's bulked up muscular look . A new art style and a new direction , for a new era of fighters , rest assured it looks terrific . Backgrounds are 3D , and varied . I especially like the temples . Sound : Sublime . In addition to the music tracks for each stage , there are remixed arranged versions for some of the original fighter's themes in the game as well . Once you hear Cammy's remix of her classic England stage music , you'll know what I mean . In addition to being able to change the voices from English to Japanese , you can do it . . . for every character . If you want Cammy in English and Ryu in Japanese , you can . Why , because Capcom loves you . My advice : The Japanese voices are better by a long shot . The opening intro features a song by Exile ( A pop band in Japan ) , which may or may not be your taste , but it does grow on you . If not , the second song of the intro will get you so pumped to play , you'll forget the 1st half of the intro's song . In closing because this review is too long , get it , play it , enjoy it . Street Fighter is back and it's been worth the wait .
    • 008 4  In my opinion , this is not only the best Street Fighter game but it is perhaps the best Capcom fighting game ever made and that is saying a lot because Capcom has probably made more fighting games than any other video game company ( SNK is an exception ) . I think that this game is better than Street Fighter 2 because it improves on it in every way . It has 3D backgrounds and characters and 2D gameplay . You even have lots of spoken character diologue which is missing from any other street fighter game that I've ever played . I like the addition of EX Special moves which are actually pretty easy to pull off . Super combos are nothing new but the Ultra combos look very cool and powerful ; this is one of the greatest new features that the game offers . The many different game modes are interesting , especially the versus mode . Versus Mode is a one player friendly mode because you don't need two people to play the mode . You can actually pick who you want to fight against at any time just like in Soul Calibur 4 versus mode . This is great for when you get tired of playing the arcade mode , don't have anybody to play with , or simply don't want to play it because of the final boss Seth . He can become a major headache and he is very cheap but still an interesting boss . He actually gets a lot harder if you manage to beat him in a round . In the next round after you beat him he has a whole new more powerful moves list so anybody playing against him better be careful . The Trial mode can also be hard because many of the moves that you have to do are hard to pull off with the standard controller . Custom configuration is a great thing that was added to this game and it makes some moves easier to do . Street Fighter 3 , Street Fighter Alpha games , Marvel vs . Capcom games and Capcom vs . SNK games have nothing on SF4 either . This is defenantly one of the best fighting games of the current consoles .
    • 026 4  Break MK vs DC , cancel your Tekken 6 preorder , and throw away Soul Calibur 4 , this is the only fighter you really need . Everything about this game is perfect , no matter your game skill . This is the Nintendo Wii of Fighting games . Never touched a game in your life and you are 83 ? No prob . You'll toss fireballs in no time . Are you a Pro Gamer like Fatality ? Grab an arcade stick and tear into the Ultra Combos for style . In a nutshell , this game should be part of Obama's stimulus package and given to every American citizen ! Presentation Clear , easy to navigate menus and options . The HUD is simple to read . If you played any fighter in the past 15 years , you've seen this before . Graphics Jawdropping detail and unusual art . Not really anime , but not western art either . The ink-splashes are kind of distracting at first , but then you get sucked into the art of it all and it fits . Sound Basically the same sound effects as before , just a little crisper . Music is ok , nothing to wow over . Gameplay Gameplay is perfect . . . WITH AN ARCADE STICK . With a gamepad , it's slightly better than playing Street Fighter Alpha on a gameboy or PSP . Get a stick . Lasting Appeal If you are a youngin who missed the first Street Fighter wave , or a die hard street fighter , this game will entertain you for years to come . Casual gamers , it's still a must own for online gaming .
    • 041 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) As someone who played a significant amount of Capcom fighting games throughout the 90s , Street Fighter IV does NOT disappoint . Let's break it down . . . Graphics : A huge polish over all the previous games . It's a 3D game in look , but it plays like all the rest of the 2D fighters . If you ever played Street Fighter EX , you'll feel mostly at home . What's been upgraded is the overall style ( looks like cell shaded , not sure ) and a huge boost to dramatic elements associated with pulling off the Ultra moves . Audio : Finally some love for my sub woofer ! The soundtrack addition isn't bad , but I've changed most of the default language options from English to Japanese ( much of the dialog is very cheesy ) . Gameplay : Huge additions to the mechanics , but it still feels mostly like SF2 from the 90s . It really feels closer to Street Fighter EX with it's mechanics - - and that's not a bad thing . Online play : PSN stinks ( there , I said it ) . My brother and I play very often to find that it is very lacking . We live in the same city ( less than two miles from each other ) , have the same ISP and we're still fighting the game's netcode because it produces serious lag . We tried last night for one round only for him to hop in the car and bring his joystick . There are some issues that could get ironed out : - No double blind selection for net play . - The challenge modes should show how to complete some of the combos . Youtube is a great resource for this , but the game should have a form of playback . - Some characters super / ultra are still too difficult for practical use ( Guile / Vega ) . SF2THDR fixes this , I don't understand why Capcom didn't address it in SFIV ( while they adjusted other moves , added shortcuts , etc ) . What can I say ? It's a modern day street fighter that works online and has 720p graphics !
    • 110 4  Remember Street Fighter II ? When the early artwork hit , and the first screen shots were released , many were not pleased with SF I。's bulked up muscular look .
    • 148 4  So after playing SF4 for the better part of 2 days I can say I haven't had this much fun with a game in years . I have played everything from World of Warcraft , Left 4 Dead , God of War to Tekken . If you are playing the Arcade mode and have a connection to Xbox Live or Playstaion Network then people online can come in and challenge you . Its like playing at an Arcade and having someone came and put quarters in the machine . Also with the addition of the Focus , EX special and Ultra attacks this game can be as deep as Tekken or Virtual Fighter . If you're a fan of Street Fighter or fighting games in general then this is a must have . But if you'er new to the series or the genre this is a great place to start .
    • 177 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I usually don't like , play , much less purchase fighting games . The last two fighting games I bought were Tekken 4 and Soul Calibur II , and of course , I bought them because they were pre-owned . Before that , I had bought at one point Mortal Kombat 1 - 3 for Genesis , and for some mysterious reason ( I can't remember right now how I got them ) I had Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Samurai Showdown . I have never liked playing fighting games at the arcades . If the picture isn't clear enough yet , fighting games are NOT my thing . At all . I usually suck at them , I usually can't figure how to perform any tricks or finishing moves , and quite honestly , they bore me . Notwithstanding , a while ago I had SF II HD Remix in front of me , and a need for brainless , reaction-induced fun rekindled a long lost nostalgia in me . I was hooked . I usually go for story heavy games , but sometimes you need to zone out , or zen in , and SFII did that for me . So , with the upcoming release of this little jewel right here , I was quite enthused . And I was delightfully surprised . Just the sheer fun factor of this game is well worth the sticker price . The new aesthetic is odd at first , but it manages to keep within the realm of the beloved home brand . And it's just downright beautiful . I didn't dig much the anime intros , but that didn't detract from the overall experience for me . The music is a nice rockin ' soundtrack you'd expect from Capcom . The sounds are pretty much a great evolution from the classic hadokens and shoryukens and whatnot . I haven't followed the series much , so I don't know how much the gameplay has evolved , but I am having loads of fun so far . What struck me most about this title is the ability it has to make me feel as if I was playing it at the arcades , which I think has been the Holy Grail of fighting video games : to replicate the arcade experience . And although games look , feel and sound phenomenal nowadays , you don't always get that over-the-top , larger-than-life feeling from a fighting game .
    • 206 4  Capcom is all about milking the franchise , so it's no surprise that SUPER Street Fighter IV is launching 13 months after SF IV . A few new characters , lots of tweaking , and rock bottom low price to get you to buying this weak update . If they needed to tweak : - The impressive new roster includes classic combatants from previous Street Fighter games like T . Hawk as well as all-new characters such as the mysterious and deadly female fighter , Juri . - Super Street Fighter IV adds new Ultra Combos and advancements to the state of the art online matchmaking and online game play introduced in Street Fighter IV with numerous additional features - Super Street Fighter IV takes many of the groundbreaking features introduced in Street Fighter IV and refines everything to deliver the ultimate vision of Street Fighter to fans the world over . It's shouldn't be a new stand alone game , it should be a free expansion update for what is clearly a lack of game testing before it went to market .
    • 241 4  I think I have seen better graphics on Playstation 1 games .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Street Fighter IV ! ! ! i have it for the PS3 . overall this game is great . the only flaws are minor nit picks from me . first the good . the graphics may not be the best you've ever seen , but it works , looks like paintings come to life . and the game play is classic street fighter with great new additions for hardcore gamers , like focus attacks that are unblockable . you can cancel a special move to do a supermove or ultra move . and the super combos are not too difficult to do , you can customize the buttons to help you pull off combos . if you dont know or forget a special move you can pause the game and check the character combos moves from the pause menu . the online play is awesome , it tells you the online connection of the person you're playing , kind of like a cell phone reception bar . as long as you play someone with half the bars you will have no lag at all . the bad , you start with only 16 characters , to unlock the others can be tedious . the arcade mode is pretty short & relatively easy even on medium until you get to the final boss SETH , he is near IMPOSIBLE to beat even on medium . the menu takes some getting used to . i wish there were more stages to fight in and mini games like break barrels or destroy the car . the music is just ok , the anouncer is kind of anoying . but maybe future downloads will make some of that happen . but these are very minor things that can be overlooked for a great game that is super fun .
    • 021 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I've haven't picked up SF in about 14 - 15 years . I played the game heavily at arcades up to the SF2 Turbo edition , and also played the Genesis and SNES plain-Jane SF2 ports quite a bit as well . I completely missed out on the SF3 generation . That should give one an idea of where I'm coming from . I felt right at home with this one . Small things like the command to throw have changed , with some new innovations for balance , but overall this is quite an effort on the part of Capcom . A lot of love went into this one . From what I can tell , the game does not favor any one particular fighting style , so if you're a combo man like myself , you should have no problem . A scan of the literature about this game will tell you it's all about balance , balance , balance . Accessible to newcomers , but oldies should adore this as well . I don't like the boy band music or the cheesy anime cut scenes .

    • 091 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) You've seen dozen of reviews . But I gather if your still deciding to get this game now , you are not hardcore SF gamer but a casual one . Maybe some nostalgia your looking for . Let me tell you I play this game 20 hours - a week ! ! ! ! I'm slowing becoming an sf nerd . Half that time is in training mode trying to conquer complex combos . But its a futile lifestyle . At the end of the day , if you don't have a arcade stick you are at a serious disadvantage especially with the shark infested waters online . I opted to go with a mad catz fight pad . Twice as good as the PS pad , but 10 times worse than a stick . Look , this game will gather dust if you don't have patience for people beating you up and learning from your hundreds of mistakes . This is my gripe with the game . Link combos require split second precision are inaccessible to most people and this is the only way to improve and be good at it . Ask your self if your up to it .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This is the best Street Fighter that I have played since Street Fighter II Turbo . The game is designed around an anime theme , which makes sense given the cartoons that were a spinoff of the series . The art is beautiful , but the stories are campy and weird in the classic style of the game . The controls are awesome . I was usually very frustrated with pulling off special moves from previous installments , but now they are much easier to execute . I am not sure if that is a testament to the genius of the Six Axis controller or if it has something to do with the programming . Whatever it is , it works . I am pleased . The matchmaking online is perfect . You can set up the arcade game to accept invitations from players outside and your game will be interrupted like the old arcade style : There is a new challenger . . . I like this a lot . It's like someone has come up to the arcade cabinet and dropped their quarters in . It is nice for me because I have nobody else to play with . It's a perfect addition . This function can be turned off though , for those who do not want the Arcade challenge interrupted . There is also a way to simply go on the network and challenge anybody you like , but I think it connects a little faster when you accept the arcade challenge . No complaints , just an observation . Anyway , trying to find a copy today ( the day after release ) will be very difficult . It was sold out at most locations I went to yesterday , but I was able to pick up the last copy just before I gave up . By this game ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Sweet .

    • 060 4  Being a gen-X'er ( now 30 - something and still hooked on Video Games ! ) , Street Fighter introduced me to this genre of computer fighting . Fast forward twenty years and several fighting games have come into my lap including MK , SC and Tekken series . None of them just came close to the sheer exhilaration I felt playing Street Fighter - - be it with my buddies or with strangers online . While critics may be quick to point out SF4 ' s shortcomings ( that it's 2D fighting trying to fit into the 3D mold of today's games ) - - no one can refute that it's just pure unadulterated fun ! Any player of any skill level can play this game and have fun - - that universal appeal cuts across all walks of life ; a game that trascends two decades of strides in the gaming world . It's a game you can play with your ten year old son and your grandfather as well . And it's also a game that your girlfriend can play with you without her getting bored . While it may not be perfect , as no game ever will , it brings out the child in every one of us - - carefree and invincible . At the end of the day , it's no longer about who wins or loses , but the bond it forges between friends and loved ones alike .
    • 204 4  this game is so cool , i can actually beat many people in this game , the game is so much fun .
    • 222 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I read all the reviews , they said this game was not for a casual gamer . I have a PS3 and my rank is a 6 Star , i thought i wasnt a casual gamer and id be able to handle this game . Nope ! This game is too difficult to have any fun playing it . Atleast on easy you should be able to breeze through it . On like my third fight i was getting finishing moves performed on me . The command list is retarded . It doesnt tell you the acurate buttons to press . left stick + a fist ? theres 3 different buttons for punching ! After wasting an hour on training and still couldnt pull off special or finishing moves , i gave up . I bought the game on Wednesday and put it back on amazon by Wednesday night ! I'm going to be patient and wait for Tekken 6 ! You can't go wrong with Tekken !
    • 224 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This game seems to forget about people who just want to have fun , not memorize ultra touchy and complex controls .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) What a piece of trash this game is . There are many more issues , but here's what I find most glaring of disappointments : Multiplayer . You spend most your time working through loading screens , stat screens , ready screens , character input screens and character introductions that very little time is actually spent playing the game . Opting out of the game is also very difficult , as there is only one screen that you are able to do so . It is extremely difficult to find someone to play that doesn't lag . I live in San Francisco with a great cable connection , and this is just inexcusable how the game only matches me with players with low pings , and how difficult it is to find people to play . The experience is like you wait and wait for someone to join , and they're either : away or too lagged to play . Player Base . Most players hover around one fighter . Other fighting games are designed so that you can have fun with multiple players . Not SF4 . The reason : it is so prohibitively difficult to get any sort of advantage that you're spent using a select few fighters ( Ryu , Ken , Zangief , Abel , etc . ) I am absolutely shocked if a opponent picks anyone other than Ken . Square Gate . For some reason Capcom decided that the original dragon punch motion was too difficult to pull off . Their solution : redesign the joystick's ' gate ' ( or the restrictor plate that lies underneath the joystick ) from a fluid circular motion to a square . This makes it so that your joystick is drawn to the corners , but the top , bottom , left and right don't sit well so your joystick just slides to the corner . Very frustrating when you're trying to block high - you'll either jump back or block low . Doing 360 Zangief or fireball motions are very difficult as well , as your joystick rotates it knicks and knacks across the corners . This square gate's purpose was to facilitate the dragon punch input change , which is also counter-intuitive . You crouch forward then back then forward ? Sorry , this was just a bad change . None of the other Street Fighter games have this feature . Timing . Capcom really messed this up . Most fireballs knock you down , killing the momentum of the game . Most moves have a delay between input and action , so you must plan ahead to absurd degrees . They slowed down the game to make it more like Street Fighter 2 , but this was a bad move . Remember Super Street Fighter 2 and how slow that was after the awesome Street Fighter Turbo ? They changed Super when they updated the game , and none of the other Street Fighter games were that slow . But - there's a reason why Capcom slowed the game down ! Read on . . . Combos . Combos are prohibitively awkward . There are still the ' simple ' move cancel combos that made Street Fighter famous . And there's Supers and Ultras , which are nice . But trying to combo into an Ultra is often times an exercise . Jump in with a punch , then tap jab twice and move cancel into a special - as that special connects , focus cancel ( medium punch + medium kick ) , tap forward twice - then do the ultra move . This is typical and is such an awkward bunch of commands it requires a painstaking amount of practice to get right ( or even remember ) . I didn't even mention the ' EX ' moves , where you must press more than 1 punch or kick button at a time . Good thing Capcom knew how difficult they were and included Trials that show you a lot of these combos . Good luck , you'll need it . These commands must be input very fast , with precise timing for the combos to pull off . The real reason why Capcom slowed the game down . Great , thanks a lot . Counters . In previous Street Fighter games certain specials and other moves would counter different attacks . It was a pretty simple concept . Even in Street Fighter 3 with EX specials it made sense ( but was a huge step up in difficulty , especially with the parrying technique ) . In SF4 it is taken to a ridiculous degree . For one , EX moves pretty much counter anything . That loses a lot of the breathtaking gameplay that made the original so great . They totally defeat the purpose of the regular specials counters , when if you want to counter a move all you need to do is press another punch or kick button . Yay ! Second , removing parrying made sense as it was very difficult to learn and unfair for players that did know it , but introducing Focus Attacks just slows the game down . Making it so you can time a ridiculously animated Focus Attack while an opponent is getting up - and landing it into some super-over-powered ultra move to end the match just makes it a silly magic trick . In previous Street Fighter games you really felt proud of a win , because you had to use cunning and tactics to win . In SF4 , the more combos , Focus Attack or EX counters you learn will determine whether you win or not . The feeling is not pride in outsmarting your opponent , but out-learning him . After the excellent Street Fighter 3 and Alpha series , Street Fighter 4 is just such a disappointment that I feel sad that it will probably be years before we see a Street Fighter that is fun again . If ever .
    • 025 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Break MK vs DC , cancel your Tekken 6 preorder , and throw away Soul Calibur 4 , this is the only fighter you really need .
    • 053 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I have to be honest : when I first heard about how SF4 was going to incorporate 3 - D graphics , I immediately thought of the EX series ( not a fan at all of the series ) and was highly disappointed ; but as SF4 ' s main website began showing the graphics and the gameplay , I thought that this was going to be way better than EX . My hypothesis was correct ! Finally , SF4 incorporates Prologues & Endings , ( in anime ! ! ) Super Combos ( like in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo ) , EX combos ( like in Street Fighter 3 ) , and the new Ultra combos ( reminds me of Samurai Showdown : your player has to be attacked by the opponent which fills up the Revenge gauge ) ! All of the SF2 : The World Warrior cast returns + 6 new characters ( Abel , Crimson Viper , El Fuerte , Rufus , Seth [ final boss ] , & Gouken [ Ryu & Ken's master ] ) , SF alpha players ( Rose , Gen , Sakura , Akuma [ Gouki in Japan ] , & Dan ) , & Fei Long & Cammy from Super Street Fighter 2 ! Another nice feature of the game is the fact that you can choose either English or Japanese language for the Prologue / Endings & character voices ( note : you have to beat the game once in order to switch the language to Japanese ) . Different modes for the game includes Arcade , Vs , Challenge , Training , & Online Battle ! So far I've only played the game twice & I'm hooked ! ! The only downfalls : 1 . I wish they would've included more characters from the Alpha & Turbo series such as T . Hawk , DeeJay , Juli & Juni , Karin , Cody , & Rolento . 2 . It takes a while for you to fill up your Super Combo gauge . If you're a fan of the SF series , then you won't be disappointed ! This is definitely one of those games that you'll never be bored with ! Until Tekken 6 comes out , this is the best fighting game for PS3 !

If ever .
    • 147 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) So after playing SF4 for the better part of 2 days I can say I haven't had this much fun with a game in years .
    • 205 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Capcom is all about milking the franchise , so it's no surprise that SUPER Street Fighter IV is launching 13 months after SF IV .
    • 215 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Usually , I don't review any items I haven't fully examined . But after ( finally ! ) getting a taste of this , I couldn't resist . From what I've experienced firsthand , the long-awaited ' sequel ' to the game that started the fighting genre is pretty much everything we expected , and more-or-less of what we wanted . Inspired by a Japanese painting style , the ' 2.5D ' graphics make SFIV a living canvas . From Ryu's scorching fireball to the fighters ' new Focus Attacks to their cinematic Ultra Moves , it's obvious that the franchise has come a long way since the long-forgotten EX series . Speaking of special moves and combos , a joystick is still recommended if you ever want to execute them . At least you can configure the controls to , for example , pull off 3 - button attacks with one attack button . It's great to see the 12 original World Warriors strut their stuff again . And throwing 4 new characters , 6 fighters from Street Fighter Alpha , 2 secret characters , and a new boss sets the stage for new challenges and old rivalries . So the only real gripe with SFIV is the $60 price tag . This review will be revised with further testing of the product . This game is rated T for Teen : Alcohol Reference , Suggestive Themes , Violence .

  • Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Yep . . The Old is New again . . this is what 2 players fighting game should be all about . . . 2D plain and simple , but all the extras make it very competitive . . The moves are challenging but not confusing like 3D fighting games . . . Although this can be a better game , it is the best Street Fighter ever ! ! ! The only complain I have is the online fighting gets kind of hard to find a fighter without having to refresh every time . . Sometimes you have to wait so long to get someone to fight you . . Really good game , but would not recommend this to people who don't like to repeatedly playing the same thing over and over again . . . .
    • 037 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This is the best fighting game of all time . Must buy !

    • 073 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) The Street Fighter series always seems to be the most challenging fighting game series to me , and this entry is no exception .
    • 185 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I was playing street fighter since the 80s .

  • Updated graphics New characters It's a new Street Fighter ! I should've bought Killzone 2 instead : (
    • 002 4  If you are intermediate or elite players and love SF II and good at it , then go for it . You can skip my review . BUT if you are casual players , like me , and you didn't plan on training hard , please read my review and think carefully before buying this game . Pros : - Graphics and animations are top-notch . - If you like SF II , this one goes back to the old formula and add some new tweaks into the battle system . Cons : - If you were forced to stick with only a few characters like Ryu or Ken back in your SF II days , that situation is coming back . Ryu , Ken , Sakura are easy enough to master all the moves . Others are useable ( means casual players would be able to do some moves , but not all ) . But for many of them , most of the special moves are impossible for casual players to pull off effectively in the heat of the battle ( ie . Vega ) . And the Ultimate move of some characters ( ie . Akuma , Chun Li ) are nightmares . - If you couldn't use the special moves well enough , then casual players might end up with just a few useable character from 25 of them ( or half of them , with some practices and a sore left thumb ) . And you wouldn't stand a chance even against Medium opponents on Arcade mode with the characters you can't use well . Let alone going online to be a sand-bag for those elite players . And $ [ . . . ] for a game that you could only having fun with less than half of the character rosters , it's the money not very well spent . - Controls can be too sensitive for casual players to do even some basic moves . For example , a split-second longer can turn command ' UP ' into ' UP UP ' . When you hold left and then quickly press right , if your left thumb is not precisely hit the RIGHT directional pad , you'd end up with ' DOWN + RIGHT ' or ' UP + RIGHT ' instead of ' RIGHT ' . All these ridiculous sensitivity issues can really be annoying and ruin your moves . - Practice mode doesn't help much . You can practice with the dummy , but there's no advice or video to show you the timing or even what the moves should look like . You're on your own . All the moves and combos must be done respectively , no skipping . If you get stuck with any move , you can't advance to the next . This I'm not sure if I'm right or wrong , and it's not pro or con . But the difficulty level seems to be set higher . Medium level can be tough . Even on Easiest , computer can still put up a fight . In conclusion : I give this game 3.5 stars . Casual player might want to think hard before paying a full price . I'm trying not to be nitpicking here . I like the characters and moves . But as a casual player who likes to enjoy ALL , or at least , most of special and ultimate moves of EVERY characters after some amount of trials , without losing my head and my left thumb , I find this game quite frustrating . For me , Marvel VS Capcom , Capcom VS SNK , or Guilty Gear are a lot more fun . However , elite players may find this game fun and challenging and give it 5 stars , and they're not wrong either . Someday it might go down to $ [ . . . ] , when that happens , everybody should pick this game up just for the sake of its phenominal graphics alone . But for now , rent it first , see if you're up to the challenge .
    • 014 4  Street Fighter fanatics and fighting game aficionados should already own this game . The only real question is whether you , the casual gamer , should also give this game a try . What kind of casual fan are you ? Are you the kind who spent hours playing Street Fighter 2 in arcades , on SNES , or Sega Genesis 15 + years ago ? If so , feel free to pick up right where you left off , throwing hadoukens , sonic booms , and spinning bird kicks just like you used to . All your favorite World Warriors are present and accounted for , and their classic moves have been reborn in an intriguing new 3D art style . At 60 fps , the game is truly a sight to be seen . Online Youtube videos simply don't do this thing justice . But , what about casual gamers who've never played a Street Fighter game in their lives ? Will this game be worth your time and money ? That depends entirely on you . . . Because with Street Fighter ( and any fighting game , really ) you get what you give . Initially , the game may seem difficult or foreign . . . but with time you improve and start to understand the nuances of the game . Eventually , what you once considered difficult will become second nature . And , by playing against friends both locally and online , you will have plenty of opportunities to hone your craft ( and have fun in the process ) . In this regard , replay value is nearly infinite . Because , even after you beat arcade / story mode , watch all the fully animated cut scenes , unlock all 9 hidden characters , complete challenge mode , and earn every achievement , you STILL have the main attraction to look forward to . . . versus mode . And , as long as there are willing warriors on the horizon , there will always be stuff to do . . . . . . that is , if you're willing to put a little time into it .
    • 016 4  This is the best Street Fighter that I have played since Street Fighter II Turbo . ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Sweet .
    • 018 4  I am an expert on Street Fighter of course , that's why I bought the game the first day it came out . Good luck to all
    • 020 4  First off , to dramatically improve load time between fights and overall performance you need to install this game to the ps3 hardrive ( not default behavior ) Goto - > Options - > System Settings - > Install - improves load times to 2 - 3 seconds .
    • 024 4  Thanks capcom for locking two of my favorite characters , So now I have to try to beat this extremely cheap boss who can teleport and cheat left and right .
    • 032 4  Graphics : 10 / 10 Sound : 10 / 10 Game Play : 10 / 10 Fun : 9 / 10 ( After awhile it just seemed repetitive , it would have been a lot more fun if you could play with a friend ) I highly recommend this game to anyone . My girlfriend is not a gamer but she likes this . So if you liked previous SF games then you would love this .
    • 040 4  Street Fighter IV returns to the old formula of kick-assery , and there's only one word that can best describe how great this game is . . . awesome . Controls are tight , animation is smooth , and it graphically is good , too - - even though graphics aren't that important . Must buy ! Oh , and check out Madworld for the Wii . . . it rocks !
    • 042 4  As someone who played a significant amount of Capcom fighting games throughout the 90s , Street Fighter IV does NOT disappoint .
    • 052 4  I remember the first time I played SFII . . . it was and still is one of the greatest fighters out there .
    • 054 4  I have to be honest : when I first heard about how SF4 was going to incorporate 3 - D graphics , I immediately thought of the EX series ( not a fan at all of the series ) and was highly disappointed ; but as SF4 ' s main website began showing the graphics and the gameplay , I thought that this was going to be way better than EX .
    • 058 4  I was a teenager when SF2 came out and I spent a lot of time and money playing it in the arcade .
    • 059 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Being a gen-X'er ( now 30 - something and still hooked on Video Games ! ) , Street Fighter introduced me to this genre of computer fighting .
    • 063 4  This is coming from an old fan of the series .
    • 071 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) A few weeks ago I reviewed the XBOX 360 version of this game . In that review I stated that while the game itself wasn't that bad , the poor controls with the XBOX 360 controller in addition to this playing the final boss , Seth , results in nothing but frustration . The PS3 version is basically the same with one major difference ; better controls . For as long as I can remember , I have never really liked the style of the PlayStation controllers ; they were kind of small for my taste and the shape was something I never could really get used to . However for this game , the PS3 controller is near perfect . The main reason for this is the positioning of the buttons . For starters , the analogue stick is in the perfect place to be used by your thumb ; no need to move your thumb from its natural position to use the stick as on the 360 controller . In addition , the D-pad is made like it should be ; four distinct directional buttons instead of the rounded conglomerated mess on the 360 controller's D-Pad . If you want to move forward , you press forward and your character moves forward . On the 360 , pressing forward would all too often result in your character jumping forward resulting in a nice dragon punch or flash kick to the face . This also meant trying to execute even the most simple of moves on the first try very difficult . On the PS3 , moves are able to be done almost at will making game play less frustrating . Moves I found nearly impossible to execute on the 360 I'm able to perform easily on the PS3 . Precision is key ; and the PS3 controller offers much more of that than the 360 controller . Because of the better control , it's much easier to counter the cheapness of CPU controlled AI . However Seth is STILL cheap and even with the better controls , you still may find your self wanting to slam your controller into the floor . Other than the big improvement in game control , the PS3 ' s presentation of graphics / sound is virtually identical to that of the 360 . I had no complaints on the 360 version in this department and none on the PS3 version either . Some say the 360 version's graphics look better but without having them side by side , I can't tell any difference . The only small difference I've noticed is that the loading times before the match starts are slightly longer on the PS3 . Online play is also identical to the 360 version which is just fine as well . Of course one big advantage with the PSN network is that you can play other against people online without having to pay extra for a subscription as you have to do with XBOX Live Gold . After comparing the two versions of this game , I without hesitation recommend the PS3 version over the 360 version . That said however , even with Seth's extreme cheapness , I am still up in the air if I'm going to purchase this game , the overall game play on the PS3 a better than its 360 counterpart . I spent four hours last night playing this game ; something I wasn't able to do with the 360 version . While I still suggest a rental first , if you have both a PS3 and a XBOX 360 console , my recommendation is to go with the PS3 version . They are basically the exact same game , but the PS3 ' s better controls make for a much more enjoyable gaming experience . My overall / fun rating of this game for the 360 was : Online : 4 / 5 , Offline 3.5 / 3 and my rating of the PS3 version is Online 4.5 / 5 , Offline : 4 / 4 . While the cheap CPU AI of other characters is annoying , Seth is the MAJOR reason why I can't recommend a definite purchase .

    • 078 4  Great Game and classic if you play Street Fighter I , II , V , then . . . . this is something u have to get ~
    • 079 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) First off back in the Sega Genesis Days I was a casual SF2 player and liked to play with my friends . The only fighting game I have liked since has been soul caliber for it's basic controls and slick graphics . When I heard SF4 was coming to next gen consoles I was excited . I got it the first day it came out and was brought back to my younger years . I consider myself a casual gamer but between this and Killzone 2 which I just purchased I find myself playing games a lot more than I used too . This game is meant to be played online since you have an infinite amount of matches right at your fingertips . Also there are no mini-games or different modes so this game is all about the competition . Playing online is fun but can be annoying since 80% of the time it seems like I'm fighting Ken who I refuse to use for online fighting . The characters are pretty even in the right hands anyone has a chance to win . Sound is great since it had been a while since I played a SF game it was great to hear all the sayings and they seem much more vivid this time around . Graphics take some getting used to but the character models and the fight intro animations are top notch as has been noted the anime cut scenes are bad . Also the impact animations are great eyes bug out and when a fireball hits it looks awesome . It takes skill to play this game I tore through the arcade mode and unlocked all characters except for Seth ( didn't care about him ) than when I went to play online was getting my butt kicked . There is a difference in being able to do the moves and knowing when to do the moves , which gives the game a lot of depth . I like to used Akuma and he has a very strong ultra combo but it can be easily dodged which is pretty much the same for most other characters so it has to be set up correctly or it will leave you open . Focus attacks also give the fighting a whole new element . Overall gave the game four stars since for 60 bucks I usually want more than just the straight forward - ness of SF4 however the depth of fighting and each match posing a different challenge is great . I remember back in the day you usually played against the same group of friends and everybody had their own tendencies . Playing online removes this as you pretty much play someone new every time . If you want a great fighting game with depth that will take time to master purchase this game .

    • 082 4  I've never actually owned a fighting game before , though I've dabbled here and there on my friends consoles . After reading some reviews saying that SF4 was newbie-friendly , I decided to take the plunge . I'm sure it's been said a million times , and I'll say it again here : this game is hard . It's almost punishingly difficult . If you're looking for a casual experience you probably won't find it here . The most difficult part of the game for me ( right now ) is learning all the complex canceling techniques where you link moves together in rapid succession . Now , the game may be a lot easier to play if I had a proper fight stick rather than a dualshock , but fight sticks seem to be more expensive than the game itself , so that's not really something I'm interested in buying . The funny thing is , while this game is very hard , I find myself enjoying it . Sure , I can hardly beat arcade mode on the easiest setting , but the game presents a good challenge . Already , after a few days of playing , I feel my timing has gotten better , and I'm beginning to learn the ins and outs of playing the game . Ultimately , if you're new to fighting games and are not scared of taking your time to learn this game , buy it . The graphics are good , the individual moves are not hard to learn , and its one of the only local-multiplayer games that have been released so far . I took off one star simply because at times it does feel like a chore to play . Normally , I get that feeling because I've spent too much time in training mode and not enough actually fighting the computer . As an aside , I also purchased this game because I felt that fighting games were a big part of video game culture , and it was something that I was needlessly avoiding . I wish I had gotten my start in grade school , but I suppose I'll have to make do with playing catch up now .
    • 085 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) It was good to see that SF4 made it to the PS3 . It looks great , plays great and in my opinion will give Tekken 6 a run for its money . Being a Tekken die-hard follower , playing SF4 was still fun no matter how many times you down-forward + heavy punch . 20 + years classic . . .
    • 087 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I would consider myself a Street Fighter vetran . My first console version was the Sega Genesis Street Fighter II Turbo and I've logged more hours than I would like to admit on Alpha 3 and Marvel vs . Capcom . I'm good enough to beat my friends and lousy enough to get killed in arcades ( as a kid ) and online . I NEVER use an arcade stick , I'm too cheap . So that's where my perspective starts . The game itself is largely unchanged as far as the nuts and bolts go . Two dimensional plane of fighting , moves are pulled off in front to backs , half circles and full circles . SF IV has 3 gauges this time around - ex / super moves , focus and ultra . Each one has a different strategic application , but more importantly , they are very , VERY easy to pull off . In fact , my six year old was able to pull off an Ultra finisher . SF IV is far more stripped down that SF III or the other various iterations . You basically have a move set this is pretty easy to learn , pretty difficult to master . The graphics definately play a part in the timing , as the smoother , more involved animations make the timing easier and let you see more clearly why you are getting destroyed . The PS3 version has A LOT of jagged edges and some of the backrounds are terrible . The fighters look great , especially some of the originals like Dhalsim and Honda . The arcade mode and two player modes play as great as you would expect , but online is a different story . I'm not sure why a shooter with 60 people playing runs flawlessly , but two people fighting is so tough . After a couple days of steady playing , there are still a lot of bad connections and lag when you're playing . It could be just me , but any lag and the game is ruined . So far , I would rate online as mediocre at best . I DID NOT download the game to my hardrive ( it is an option ) . Maybe someone can comment on wether or not it speeds up the otherwise long load times . Overall , a must own for any fighting fans . The graphics are strong and the play is as tight as ever . Hopefully Capcom / Sony figure out the server issue and that would bump this up to a five star fighter .

    • 089 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This is gonna be short . .
    • 095 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) the game looks great the charaters are all georgous the facial expression they make when the other fighter does a super combo is classic . online and battle points really make you want to step your skills up and be the best . the story lines could have been a bit better but its got such solid gameplay i dont think about it much . some people may think the theme song gets annoying but i like it . they say 2d fighting games as a genre was dying people love beat em up fighting games we grew up with these but if your gonna pay 60 bucks for a fighting game it needs to be of this caliber . i actually got that same warm fuzzy feeling i got while playing street fighter 2 if you dont have this game yet you need to get it its an addictive awsome game .
    • 100 4  Street Fighter IV finally accomplishes what I think Capcom had been trying to do for a very long time . . . integrating 3D fighting into an artistic 2D experience ( all while keeping the game control / feel like the original ) .
    • 101 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Ok , so after hunting down a new copy of the Collector's Edition of the highly anticipated Street Fighter IV , and waiting another week after that to finally get it in my hands , I was able to sit down last night and have the biggest blast from the past I've ever experienced . All the cussing at my tv when I get beaten to death from cheap moves by the computer , to nearly breaking skin on my thumb throwing out combos , this game is a huge throwback to the glory days of Capcom , when SSFII Turbo and SFA3 were the reigning champions at my house . Anyways , onto the actual review . Graphics - ( 5 / 5 ) - From the beginning intro , to the character select screen , everything in this new version of SF is polished to a fine shine . From Ryu's breath-taking Ultra Combo , to Ken's Shoryuken , Capcom has made entirely sure that nothing went without the upmost attention to detail in this game . All of your fears of the game not making a good transition to 3d , or losing that hand-drawn flair should definately be put to rest after you fight your first round on arcade mode . Do I still miss the SFA3 look , where everything was anime-influenced and over the top ? ? Definately . Do I think that this still is quite possible the most amazing fighting game transition to 3d ? ? Without a doubt . Controls - ( 5 / 5 ) - The control scheme has pretty much , like it or hate it , been lifted from both SFA3 and SF3 . Which is nice , considering that if you have known all of say . . . Ken's moves since the beginning of time , then getting right into the meat of your favorite characters isn't a problem at all . I never had a problem pulling off any of the moves , and the only thing detrimental to the playability is probably the D-pad on the PS3 controller . If you have the money , I highly recommend purchasing the arcade stick controller , it'll save you some sore thumbs . Other than that though , perfect . Sound - ( 4 / 5 ) - I'll admit , when I loaded the disc in for the first time and started the game , I got pumped when I heard the beginning of the menu music , and when I fought Ken playing as Ryu , it was a throwback to the days of SNES for me . Now , I know purists will say that these are mostly remixes or entirely new tracks , but that's not necessarily a bad thing though either . I'd rather get a new remix or new track then have to listen to MIDI music while playing a next-gen game . And in actuality , I give Capcom kudos for going ahead and remixing the music , but still staying true to a lot of the sounds that are a staple to the SF series . Everything else sound-wise in this game is generally superb . From any of the special moves to a simple roundhouse kick , everything seems appropriate and correctly adjusted to sound just right . My only gripe is that the English V / O work is pure garbage . I haven't seen timing this off since I used to get up in the morning to watch 80 ' s anime on the Sci-Fi channel . . . . come on Capcom , it's 2009 . Replayability - ( 5 / 5 ) - Introducing an arcade-like online mode into the game was a fantastic idea , and one that I spent most of the night last night utilizing and cursing at in the same breath . On one hand it completely made me get the feel of the whole arcade experience , where someone you've never met comes up to the machine and slides in their tokens to try and take you down . On the other hand however , I'll say that the quality of players in the online mode left a lot to be desired . I spent most of the night fighting the usual Hadoken abusers , and the crazy crack addicted jumping machines that land just before you to land a tripping move or some form of upper cut . Annoying . As far as offline replayability , there are characters to unlock , including the mysterious Gouken , and the much-loved ( or hated ) Akuma . Though unlocking them can be quite a chore considering that you have to fight Seth so many times you'll want to literally put your fist through your television ( yes , he can be this hard , depending on the mood of the CPU ) . All in all , typical fighting game replay value , and everything you'd expect from a next-gen fighting game , while not really introducing anything too different than the norm . Overall - ( 5 / 5 ) - Slight issues aside , I definately give Street Fighter IV a five out of five . Never in my life have I sat down with a game , and re-experienced that same thrill and excitement I got with the original game growing up , and SF4 delivers on all counts . Capcom has created a gem , and no fighting game fan , or SF fan should pass it up .

    • 106 4  I was a huge SF II fan back in the day , and when I heard that this game was coming out I was very excited . Well I wasn't disappointed when I got my copy . This game is simply amazing ! My favorite ps3 game so far !
    • 108 4  I'll say it now : I am NOT a fan of fighting games .
    • 112 4  What a piece of trash this game is . If ever .
    • 114 4  Like all the players and reviewers say , the sound and visuals vastly improve on prior iterations of the Street Fighter series .
    • 121 4  The first fighting game I ever played was Guilty Gear and I loved it , still my all time favorite .
    • 123 4  Having grown up playing the original SF , SFII in the arcades .
    • 125 4  SF IV is a very nice fight game , good dinamic , combos , etc , much better than SF III , but unfotunatelly the system lose many features since SF Zero , there is only one special for each character and the last boss it awful , completely lack of creativity , Seth is ridiculous , in his lore , conception and drawning . I'd prefer Gil much more . Dispite the history mode and Gouken that is Horrible to play with , SF IV is a very nice game in Versus mode .
    • 129 4  I was always a street fighter fan since the titles release on the super nintendo . I have acquired some subsequent releases on the playstation 2 but not all of them . They seemed to have been redundant and less fun than the original so my interest dropped off . I have just purchased this one because I wanted to see if there were any additions to the series as well , I wanted to see characters on the next generation platform ( ps3 ) . I wasn't expecting much for this title , but I have to admit it was a good buy . I have two kids ( 6 and 3 ) and we have a blast . It's great for beginners ( clearly ) but the button combinations make it even challenging for those that aren't so new . The difficulty setting for single player ranges from easiest to very hard , which in fact is very hard . If you get sick of getting beat by 1 / 0 ( ones and zeros ) , then you can hop online and challenge another player . This is a totally different experience and no matter how good I thought I was , it's certainly humbling getting beat by ' FlowerPower987 ' . Great game , good value , worth the money and free shipping .
    • 133 4  This game is a lot of fun but playing with the regular PS3 controller is very frustrating , especially if you are playing against a human online .
    • 134 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) This is an excellent and well designed and balanced game . I'm a huge fan of Street Fighter II and of the Alpha games . And Street Fighter IV seems to be a perfect melding of what I like about the two . The original , fleshed out and iconic characters of SF2 have melded with simple , but deep gameplay that is filled with variety . There are plenty of features in the game as well . Versus mode gives you the choice to play versus a local player , the computer or to watch . Training mode is a handy way to brush up on your skill outside of the intense combat of arcade and versus mode . And challenge mode gives you something to shoot for as far as goals & trophies are concerned . To be honest , the only problems I had with this game are some slightly annoying load times before a match , and the desire for a few more bells & whistles . Things like a more fleshed out story mode and a memorable final boss ( not counting Gouken , Ryu & Ken's master ) would have been much better . And I love anime , but the animated cut scenes are horrible and it would have looked much better if they did that stuff in engine , like they did with the cutscenes during the rival battle and before you fight the final boss .

    • 143 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) I got this on the day of the release . I was a huge Street Fighter II fan back on the Super NES . This game is simply superb . The graphics and gameplay are top notch , and offers endless hours of gameplay . I love the online matches ; there is no lag ! I would DEFINITELY get an arcade stick . The PS3 ' s dualshock controller is cumbersome to use ( the heavy punch and kick are set to R2 and R3 ) . I just ordered a Hori Real Arcade Pro stick ; it has a Sanwa stick . I also ordered Sanwa buttons separately and will replace the Hori buttons . Get a good stick ASAP ; they are selling out quickly .

    • 146 4  I love street fighter , I love this game too , but .
    • 150 4  Pros : Updated graphics New characters It's a new Street Fighter ! I should've bought Killzone 2 instead : (
    • 151 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Street Fighter IV is a completely new installment to the SF series , however it feels more like an expansion pack to Street Fighter II . The game features nearly all characters from Street Fighter II , a few from the Alpha series , and six completely new ones . It also offers a beautiful new 3D , brush work art style while thankfully keeping the gameplay 2D . The game remains similar to previous SF games . Special moves are still performed by maneuvering the stick ( or D-Pad ) in a particular way , and then pressing an attack button . There's a greater amount of leniency , however , demonstrated most by Zangief's 360 degree rotations required for most of his moves . Some moves , however , were reverted to a more difficult state after the most recent SF game ( Street Fighter II HD Remix ) made them easier to perform . Cammy and Fei Long both have moves that end the stick motion in an up-forward position , putting you at risk of jumping instead of performing the move . Focus Attacks and Ultra Combos are the game's new addition to gameplay . Focus Attacks are performed by holding down the two medium strength attack buttons . While charging a Focus Attack you can absorb one hit , allowing you to quickly counter when the opponent strikes . You also have the option to cancel the charge early by dashing forward or back , allowing you to absorb projectiles while closing in on an enemy . Caution is necessary however , as absorbed attacks take time to heal , and any unblocked hit will negate any health that hasn't yet been recovered . Focus Attacks come in three levels . Level one is a simple attack that can be used to counter the opponent . If it lands as a counter , the enemy will crumple to the floor and be vulnerable to another attack from you . Unfortunately , the game's definition of a counter will often be different from yours and level one focus attacks tend to be useless . Level two attacks always crumple the opponent while level three attacks are unblockable and break through an opponent's own Focus stance . Finally , Focus Attacks can be used to cancel special moves early . These are called Focus Cancels . Immediately after landing a special move , you can cancel the remaining frames of the moves recovery by beginning a Focus Attack and then dash canceling it . This allows you to string together longer combos , but requires half of your Super Meter ( more on that later ) and a great deal of speed and dexterity . Ultra meters are the game's second addition . This meter fills as a character takes damage . When it's half full , a powerful Ultra Combo can be performed . If you wait until your Ultra Meter fills more , the Ultra will deal a greater amount of damage . Super Meters are back once more . These fill up as you attack your opponent or perform special moves . The meter is divided up into four bars and acts as your resource for EX Specials , Focus Cancels , and Super Combos . EX Specials require one bar . They are powered up versions of your specials performed by pressing two attack buttons after the move's input motion instead of just one . Focus Cancels require two bars while Super Combos require the entire meter . The game is fun , but it's not without its flaws . It features a combo trial for all characters , allowing players to see what type of combos each character can perform . Unfortunately , there are no in-game demonstrations of these combos , so those that require specific positioning or timing will require a run to YouTube to see what you're doing wrong . Furthermore , a good deal of the combos require incredibly strict timing and speed to perform , putting a sudden spike in the game's learning curve . Half the characters are also locked , requiring a few hours of work in order to play with . This is made worse by the fact that the save data is copy protected . If you want to take the game to a friend's house , be prepared to spend a few hours unlocking the remaining characters since you can't just copy your data to a USB drive . Online play also has its own issues . Players can see their opponent before a fight , allowing the option to cherry pick opponents . Players can also see who their opponent is choosing , allowing for counter-picking to have an advantage against the opponent . Finally , and most damning of all is that there's no penalty for disconnecting , so dubious players can protect their rank by simply quitting the game or logging out prior to a loss . These are all issues that will most likely be resolved with a future patch ; however , I felt the need to bring them up as they are still a part of the product as of the writing of this review . Overall , the game is fun , however I'm disappointed . I greatly prefer Street Fighter 2 HD Remix over this and would recommend it more as the price is a third of this game and it's much easier to get into for new players .

    • 158 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Street Fighter IV is a fighting game that lets you select a character and square off against another warrior in the ring . There are many different modes start with such as story mode , online mode , tournament mode and challenge mode . Street fighter 4 is a good fighting game worth playing . There are a number of mechanics that long time fans would have to learn and remaster in order to understand the gameplay . Each character has a variety of normal attacks and Special Moves to take advantage and one of my favorite part about Street Fighter IV is the Focus system , which allows a character to charge up an attack that will knock the opponent down if it connects properly . Players who want to get more into the technical key of it all will learn that the Focus Attack can also absorb incoming attacks which can gives the player a better edge during an online match . In this way , the Focus Attack becomes a defensive technique as well as an offensive one . There are two meters that can be used in a match : the Super meter and the Ultra meter . The Super meter fills as you land attacks and the Ultra meter goes up as you're getting hit . You can use the Super meter to execute Super Combos that can be chained together to bring your enemies health faster . On the other hand , you can use the Ultra meter for an Ultra Combos which are more devastating attacks that can change the fight to win easily . Overall good game and i give it a 9.0 for being a unique fighting game and enjoy playing it with friends . 8.7 Presentation It well-polished and clean , with PS3 and 360 versions which are both the same . Funny animated cutscenes should be change to story-telling . 9.1 Graphics it is clear , artistic and was animated nicely . I find rose soul spark ( fireball ) pretty cool . 8.9 Sound there are plenty of tunes to satisfy the fighting . 9.4 Gameplay Street Fighter IV is a smart step to go back to the old series . It brings back some old characters ( Akuma , Balrog , Blanka , Cammy White , Chun-Li , Dan Hibiki , Dhalsim , Honda , Fei Long , Gen , Gouken , Guile , Ken , Bison , Rose , Ryu , Sagat , Sakura , Kasugano , Vega , Zangief and some new ones like ( Abel , Crimson , Viper , Fuerte , Rufus , Seth ) 9.5 Secrets A huge list of unlockables keeps single-player sessions pretty rewarding . Online mode is pretty addicting as you can unlock many titles , icons , money , and medals making you want to keep on playing with against other people .

    • 172 4  I rented this game off of gamefly , and for the ( very short ) time I had it , it was fun to play .
    • 175 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) i just got this today on the PS3 . i am really grateful that Capcom kept all the original STREET FIGHTER II characters in STREET FIGHTER IV . so far i've only tried Ryu but all the moves are exactly like i remember . the control setup takes some getting used to as the last time i played STREET FIGHTER was on the PS2 and before that was on the old Genesis . all i need now is the joystick so i con't have to look for the buttons when playing online .
    • 178 4  I usually don't like , play , much less purchase fighting games .
    • 182 4  It's just too frustrating . I have played Street Fighter games for about 15 years now , I used to be able to blow through Street Fighter II on any difficulty level in a matter of minutes so I disregarded all the other reviews that warned how frustrating this game is . The first few rounds aren't all that difficult , but the last boss is seriously cheap , you have to be very lucky or VERY skilled even on easy . I usually spend about 15 minutes getting to the last boss , then about 45 minutes just getting frustrated and quitting . The moves can be difficult to pull off for beginners , but since they are pretty much the same as they have always been , I don't have too much of a problem there . I really do like the game for the first few minutes , I am hoping ( but not holding my breath ) that someday Capcom will release a patch allowing you to lower the ridiculous difficulty level . Final thought : PLEASE consider renting this one before buying !
    • 183 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) Just got the game today , so far I haven't been dissapointed .
    • 188 4  Great Fighting Game .
    • 194 4  Great brings back Memories from my childhood I loved this game and the kids do too ! Recieved very fast and as new ! Lime they said ! ! Love it ! !
    • 216 4  Usually , I don't review any items I haven't fully examined .
    • 219 4  good game but i think Soul Calibar is better becuase in this game the screen only focused in the players while on soul calibar its focused on both players and the stage moving in all diection in street fighter just one direction . other thing the moves in street fighter are very hard to do the super mover while in soul calibar its quite easy .
    • 223 4  I read all the reviews , they said this game was not for a casual gamer .
    • 235 4  I remember as a kid buying Eletronic Gaming Monthly to get new combos to try them at the Street Figher II arcades and get people angry . Through the years I've owned and tried every Capcom fighter and have LOVED with a passion every Street Fighter game . My Street Fighter passion came to a boiling point with SF III . That was probably the best 2d fighter I ever played PERIOD ! ! ! ! ! Which brings me to SF IV . . . . Oh God SF IV . . . . I really wanted to , and say like this game . . . . . . . damn I really do but here goes ; The graphics look great . Then we get to the actual game . . . . . Characters have 1 special move ? ? ? why , and they don't look as good as they do in the other 2D games . We have the cast of SF II returning and no one from SF III . . . . again why ? ? ? Alex was cool , so were alot of other characters in SF III like , Necro , Elena , Ibuki and such . . . . . but they get replaced by these very forgettable and not fun at all characters in SF IV . . . . I can honestly say I avoided them as much as possible , only used to unlock other characters . And alpha characters shouldn't belong in this game . The final boss . . . . . . are you kidding me ? ? ? I have Necro meets Gil type of character . Actually this was worse then the final boss from Marvel vs . Capcom 2 . . . . The only thing that made me keep this game for 2 months was the online play . . . but then that got old seeing as how 1 ) everyone picks Akuma and do the same fighting patterns , 2 ) its hard to connect . Capcom give us a follow up to SF III . . . . not this junk !
    • 238 4  This review is from : Street Fighter IV ( Video Game ) too bad capcom has left the basic game player out . Unless you been playing Street Fighter for the last 20 years , you wont be able to cleanly pull off the moves needed to advance in the game . not for part time players . only pros . def the last street fighter I'll buy .

    • 245 4  I cannot believe someone recommended Street Fighter 4 to me . I feel profoundly tricked and cheated . The first thing you will notice is that the game's configuration options are unbelievably overcomplicated , and if you don't understand them ( which no one does ) , the default settings make it easy for anybody on the Internet to hijack your PS3 and erase any progress you may have been in the middle of . But beyond that , the bottom line is that most of the characters and special moves are STILL completely unchanged from back when I played the same stupid game on my SNES 15 years ago . Sure , they threw in some time-wasting cut scenes with some remarkably bad voice acting ( even by video game standards ) , but there is absolutely nothing new that anyone would actually want . It should be illegal to call a game a sequel without adding anything new . It's like they are trying to see how many times they can make you pay for the same thing . Please don't buy Street Fighter 4 .
