Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie

  • 001 4  First , let's get the obvious out of the way . I'm sure the main reason the majority of guys are going to buy this is because of the shower scene . Let me just make one note about it and move on . The english version has an EXTENDED version of the shower scene . There is still one shot that's missing ( just to be exact ) . However , the Japanese side of the disc does indeed have the UNCUT version of the shower scene . So feel free to go nuts , take screen shots etc . It is in here . Now on to the rest of the review . This release is in everyway superior to the original US release . It has the UK version of the movie ( which is vastly extended over the US version ) and the Japanese ( completely un-cut ) . The menu system is also a vast improvement ( since the original DVD didn't even HAVE a menu system ) . The extra's , while sparse , also make it a cut above the original release . The only thing I could possibly fault this release with is that it's only the Japanese version that's completely un-cut , while the UK version is merely extended . Even that's not much of a fault . I don't typically watch my anime with the Japanese track , but with this one , I'll make an exception . Once you see the Japanese version , you'll realize just how bad the english dub is . The dubbing team had to add to the dialogue to fit the mouth-flaps . This made for a lot of ( for a lack of a better word ) stupid dialogue that made some scenes go on painfully too long . It killed a lot of the flow of the movie . The original Japanese dialogue fits the flow of the movie better , and the voice acting is simply better . While I may have actually grown to like KMFDM , Alice in Chains and Korn , thanks mostly to this movie , I can't deny that losing their music is a small loss considering how much better the dialogue is in Japanese . A few notes on the movie itself . Yes the plot is paper-thin . But the fight scenes are what the movie is all about , and in those , Street Fighter II shines . There are a few parts with bad animation ( crossed eyes being my major gripe ) . But taken as a whole , this movie is very well put together . It's well worth the cost . Stay away from the original US release at all costs .
    • 003 4  I first saw this movie over 10 years ago in its original language and I've loved it ever since . Not only because I'm a Street Fighter fan , but also because it was beautifully animated and had great fight scenes . I was disappointed to hear how they dubbed it in english . The voices ranged from decent to crappy and they didn't even take the characters ' accents into consideration ( Cammy's british and Dee Jay's jamaican ) . Not only that , but they completely changed the soundtrack to hard rock and even edited out some scenes . In 1997 , it was one of the first anime that was put on DVD in the U.S , so that might explain why they didn't add the original japanese audio track for those who didn't want to suffer the bad english dub . But Manga Entertainment re-released it in Europe in 2001 and still didn't include the original language track . Now finally Manga gets it right . Although it still seems to have the same english audio track , it also contains the original japanese audio too . . . and it's uncut ! I'd be happier if they re-dubbed the english track with better voice acting , but this is great for now . Thanks , Manga !
    • 017 4  I hate hyper people who put 5 stars like they havent seen a movie before . But this movie defines the word Brillance and is one of my all time favourites . I wish I could go back in time and experience seeing it for the first time , again . I can go on about the effects of the music from Alice In Chain's Them Bones & Korn's Blind to the woodwind & orcastrasted music . Or I could go on about how great the story and the action is . This really is a window into another reality that leaves you wanting more . The intro , the one-liners . . everything you can think of . . . . all the little and important things , such as a plot , that make a proper movie are sitting right here ! Don't miss out ! Lloyd Harris
    • 024 4  It took them long enough , but you can finally see the true version of this movie . I have the import laserdisc and import DVD , and now this one as well . A good translation for the subtitles , and it's widescreen and completely uncut , and the Japanese version is as good as ever . The English version is still a travesty , but I'll be making a lable to put on the side with the dubbed version soon enough . So finally , people can see the full , true version , with the good soundtrack ( infinitely better than the godawful English version's redone music ) . Pluses : Widescreen , better transfer than any previous US release , accurate translation for the subtitles ( they use the Japanese names for the characters in the subs , which is very much appreciated ) , fully uncut version , no tampering with the credit screens . Minuses : The image is very slightly cropped compared to the Japanese laserdisc and DVD image , but for 15 bucks this can't be beat , and even though I'll never watch it , it does contain the horrid English hack-job version on the other side . And only 8 chapter stops for the entire movie is a little weird , I'd have put more chapters in myself . Buy ? Certainly . I love this movie , it made me a Street Fighter fan . It's nice to finally have a properly translated DVD release of the real version , and for the price , you can't beat it .
    • 031 4  Compared to all the other Street Fighter series out there , this one has it all ! The style of animation is both awesome and sophisticated . Gisaburo Sugii packed in as many characters as he could into this one , and dissapointed you will not be . SF Alpha and SF the series tried to bring in characters and all , but they either lacked in wide shot of the fighting scenes or didn't bring in the rest of the gang . Everyone in this movie fights , and everyone shows off their awesome fighting abilities . Yup , even Dhalsim ( scronny indian guy in video game ) looks all ripped up and badass in this one . No complaints on this one , and i dare anyone find any SF movie or any anime at that that can top this certain classic . a must buy even if you watched it a 100 times .
    • 052 4  This review is from : Street Fighter - Soul Powers ( DVD ) the animation , voices and bgm is dull but since it is S.F . it's ok for the average fan . . .
    • 060 4  I think this is the one I have . I doubt I have a full uncut version . Time to get to the actual review now . Do not get this confused with the Street Fighter Alpha series of movies . This one is actually good and does the Street Fighter name justice . There are some good fight scenes ( especially the first one with . . . . ) . As an anime , it's pretty good to me without straying far from Street Fighter's legacy and what makes it great . . . . . . dies too easily . I wish . . . . was in the movie longer . Of course , everybody doesn't get a chance to really fight or show up because there are so many characters but there is a good list of characters that show up in this movie .
    • 087 4  Well . . I bet you saw this movie at hmv or some other place and your wondering what the story is like . I'll tell you what the story is in one sentance ; An exscuse too show some incredibly visceral and visually dazzeling fight scenes . It's your basic jet li movie gone anime , and with the street fighters put in In jet's place . The story itself isn't totally horrible , but it's so forgettable and basic . there are greeting cards out there with more depth . But while Anime Has given us some of the most Deep and complex story lines ever concieved , ( Gundam , Wings of Hinneomise , Patlabor , ) It also gives us a medium that manages too touch our emotions and stir our thought with it's every move . And it's on the latter half that Street fighter Get's an A + as It's a beautiful movie too watch . The only other complaint I have is that They were really stretching at some points just too show every charachter . Dee Jay , Blanka , T-Hawk and Zanghief make brief and absoloutly pointless appearances just too please the fan boys . It's boring to see five minute sequances that could have forwarded the plot or added more depth , yet were wasted just too show some charachter favorite from the game in a pointless fight scene that doesn't affect the main plot one Iota . In the end , Street fighter is strictly a popcorn movie , something too watch with your friends or by your lonesome when the mood strikes . But did you really expect anything more ? Didn't think so . Shoyuken 0 _ o
    • 088 4  First of all I just what to say that Street Fighter is the bomb ! Second of all I think if you don't buy this fantastic , wonderfully animated movie you are not even from this dimension . Which is why I believe if you don't buy it or at least watch it , your just crazy . This isn't just any old movie this is one of Manga's finest movies around . Come on , you know you want to !
    • 133 4  I saw this because I am a fan of the video game and anime . And I love it ! The animation is great , the voice acting is pretty good , ( the english version , i haven't seen the subtitled yet ) The soundtrack is the best I ever heard in an anime , the song blind from Korn , got me to buy the cd . Tekken the movie had a cool soundtrack , but the movie sucked . No offense to the people who life J-Pop but , I hate any kind of pop , American or japanese . The metal and industral tracks are a ( In my opinion ) welcome change .
    • 137 4  Why does this ( Soul Power ) , and SF II : The Animated Movie have the same reviews ? They are two different things . All the reviews here are for the animated movie . SOUL POWER IS NOT THE MOVIE ! ! ! ! It is simply season 2 of the American animated Street Fighter series shown on the USA network in the 90 ' s . C'mon , people . Anyway , this series isn't nearly as good as any of the Japanese anime , even Street Fighter II : V . But hey , if you're an SF fan , and you want some change or even just to see what it's like , go ahead and pick this , up . But don't forget to pick up Season 1 first ! It's called Code of Honor .
    • 145 4  I saw this movie an tv one early summer movie and it actually brought a tear to my eye . it was a great movie and i am a major ( not bison ) fan . i was afraid i would never see it again until i saw it here . as soon as i have some extra $ i am going to by it ( but firt i am going to by street fighter alpha 3 and then maybe marvel vs capcom ) if any one knows were i can find a jap . version please Email me at Pdnlegs @ aol.com becouse i want to see the infamous shower seen i would also like to know how i could get the other ten movies the only reason it did not get five stars is that it is cut ( the shower seen ) worlds biggest SFII fan PDN Legs
    • 150 4  Finally the movie is on DVD the way it's suppose to . This version is the fullscreen not that annoying widescreen . It's uncut and uncensored which means it may show Chung Li's full shower sceen which they alt too cause if they still edited it then that will disappoint adults cause it an't like by doing such a stupid editing job on this film it can be for kids cause the movie has profanity , blood , and violence . Character profiles is in the special features and soundtracks from the American and Japanese music .

  • 027 4  Now this is how you do Street Fighter not an overseas conflict not a martial arts version of NCIS . The story is Bison needs Ryu's power to for terrorist activities because he seen how powerful Ryu is when he defeated Sagat he also left a big scar on him . We are introduced to Cammy she is brain washed & she works for Bison Cammy tries to kill a defense minister we go to Chun Li who is working the case on Shadoloo she says they will need military help next we are introduced to Guile he eventually agrees to help . Next we are introduced to Bison & h * l f * * * ing yeah that's what Bison should look like as well as Vega Balrog & Sagat . He wants Ryu for a Bio Weapon but he travels all over the world he's hard to find . So they learn about Ken Ryu's equal Ken runs a martial arts school in Seattle so he's easy to capture . Bison sends Vega to kill Chun Li this is how Chun Li vs Vega is done 3 - 5 minutes unlike Legend of Chun Li It's not perfect but as far as Street Fighter it's near perfect .
    • 023 4  I always was and still am a fan of Street fighter 2 . I always expected that this movie would be good , but I didn't expect it this good . From that day on I got even interested in Japanese animation . I was amazed by the incredible animation , but especially by the moves of the characters . Maaaannn , they seemed like reeeaaall . Very quick and direct actions . The story was also surprisingly ordinary and constant , meaning it doesn't all have to do with fighting . I liked the Fighting scene with Ryu and Fei Long very much and Chun Li vs Vega . But Guile should have fought more and at least won one fight . But I don ' t wanna critzise it so badly . It is still one of my favorite movies and I sometimes watch it , uuuhhh no I ' gonna watch it when I'm finished having reviewed it . And that is now .
    • 076 4  Loved the movie , the fights and the music , I only have one complaint : Why was Chun-Li consigned to the hospital , when Ken and Ryu took worse damage and still walked away ? But despite that niggling problem , the film rocked , so much better than the live action movie .
    • 084 4  This is one of the best Street Fighter movies ever made , in my opinion . I especially love the fighting scene - Chun Li vs . Vega The fighting scenes are awesome , and the music is great ! I haven't checked out SF Alpha yet , but I've heard it's not as good as this . Ryu's shoryuken kicked . . . when he used it against Sagat , lol . Well I highly recommend this for action packed , fighting , Street Fighter Fans !
    • 102 4  I LOVE THIS MOVIE ! im glad i bought this movie cuz it is the BEST fighting movie ive ever seen ! I really like how my fav SF character , Ryu , fought in the movie ! I like how he beated that one guy with one hit in the ring ! When Ryu and Ken were fighitng , they were soooo awesome !
    • 106 4  Lot and lots of action . But you should see ninja scroll .

  • 028 4  Street Fighter 2 - The Animated Movie If you have ever seen the first Street Fighter movie , you are probably terrified of even checking this one out . I don't blame you . The original movie was not animated and was horribly made . This movie however is something I like to call Americanized Anime . The movie has an anime look to it , but the subject matter has all been made for typical Americans of the 90s . These movies contain tons of action , fast cars , rock music , cheesy lines , and little story . Does this make for a good movie ? Nope . Street Fighter 2 ' s story is that Shadowlaw , a terrorist group ran by M . Bison , is trying to track down the amazing street fighter named Ryu . Ryu is near untraceable though do to his sporadic movements throughout southern Asia . M . Bison uses mind control to run Shadowlaw ; he feels that he can control Ryu and have a very powerful ally . Unable to track Ryu down , Bison begins to trace Ryu's training partner , Ken Masters . All the while the government is trying to track down Shadowlaw and stop them . Chung-Li and Guile are your main characters on the government's side of the story . If you've played the video game , you know all of the characters I've named already . If you don't , they are all just jacked up fighters . Some of them can do crazy abilities . That is all there is to them . One problem I had with this movie is that the Street Fighter characters are gigantic . Not only are the overly muscular , but also they look as if they are nine feet tall . It just makes them feel too unrealistic . One huge problem I have with this movie is that most of the movie has no importance . Most of the time you are watching random fights that have nothing at all with the story . Characters like Fei Long , Blanka , and others just seem to be added for no reason . If you take out all the pointless things , you may have a thirty-minute episode . Voice acting and animation are both sub par . Most Voice acting ranges from horrible to average . Animation looks like typical dated 90s anime . You might dig this look , but I personally do not . The fight scenes are awesome and plentiful though . The fight between Fei Long and Ryu blows me away every time . Still , you will be wishing for more of a storyline and less pointless fights by the end of this one . I can't recommend this , but I will say that at least it's better than the previous movie .
    • 007 4  This the best anime I've ever seen ! ! Sure it's slightly edited but , who cares ( It was a tiny scene with Chun-Li in the shower and some stronger cursing . ) ? The best scenes are Cammy's 1st cameo ( Her 2nd one is quite boring . ) , Ryu and Sagat's fight , Ryu and Fei Long's fight , and ( My personal favorite . . . ) Vega and Chun-Li's fight . The voice acting is actually quite good ( Except for Dee Jay , he's supposed to sound Jamaican , not American ! ) and Honda is quite funny . However , there is another American dub , but with more cursing ( Dee Jay always ends his sentences with a curse word and Vega called Chun-Li a word that rhymes with witch when she hits him in the face during the fight . ) and surprisingly the uncensored cuts out Chun-Li's nudity ( But I really don't care because I'm a girl . ) . Although many people hate the music , I think it's cool ( Especially the song Chun-Li plays while fixing her hair and her fight with Vega . ) . All ' n ' all , this movie is very good and should go out and buy it or rent it .
    • 012 4  Street Fighter : The Animation Movie is one of the best fighting animation movies of all time . The story revolves around many of the SF ( Street Fighters ) characters , mostly on Ryu , Guile , Chun Li , and Ken . The plot is very simple . M . Bison is recruiting fighters by sending out cyborgs to get information on fighters so that he can turn that person into an ultimate fighting machine to destroy anything . M . Bison has set his eyes on Ryu after receiving information on his ranking skills during a battle with Sagat . But the problem is that Ryu can not be found so he then turns his sights on the 2nd best fighter on Earth , Ken . Now Ryu has to find his long time friend before M . Bison captures him . The Movie is good on many levels . The animation is smooth and very detailed . And of course , the fights are incredible and very violent ( Bloody ) . The best fight is Chun Li vs . Vega , a very intense fight with music from KMFDM's Ultra playing in the background . There's also a brief guest appearance from Akuma , so watch out for him . Also the origin of Ryu's red head band is revealed . Though this movie was in 93 - 94 , it's still a great watch . I'm a street fighter fan since it came out and I really recommend that you buy or at least rent this movie . : D
    • 013 4  Firstly , I must say , I guess I'm one of those guys who unfortunately needs to see Chun Li in her animated underwear . Secondly , I think one should not approach a movie about a bunch of gladiatorial cartoon characters looking for a complicated storyline . It's just cool . Just watch it - - - and appreciate it for what it is . Even if the roles were stretched kinda thin , the movie included most of the classic street fighters . Blanka , in particular , I liked . Sagat , Balrog and Vega were of course the hired thugs of M.Bison , each of them making notable appearances throughout . I have many personal high points in the movie . The brawl between Ryu and Sagat is rock n ' roll all the way . Sagat is like twelve feet tall , as wide as a bus . You get to see the dragon-punch that left Sagat with that big ugly scar , falling back on the background info behind the game . The fight between Chun Li and Vega . Yes , she's in her underwear , and yes , it's cool . In that scene she uses virtually every one of her classic moves from the game . Vega slices her bathrobe to ribbons , and she ends up kicking him through a wall . Some of the Ryu and Ken flashbacks were cool , which inevitably dovetailed into the rivalry between the two friends . I liked it when they harnessed their power to thrash Bison ; Bison was a motormouth that never shut up . Guile was my favorite guy , and he sounded kinda like Ben Gazzara when he talked . There was an immediate sexual tension between Guile and Chun Li , and I was cheering him on all the way . And later in the movie , maybe Guile was defeated by a five-hundred pound Bison , but it didn't matter , because he made off with Chun Li in the end . Now that's what it's all about , stars and stripes , baby . I think if you like the game you'll like the movie . It's just fun to watch . Yes , the story can be more-or-less mindless , so if you feel guilty afterwards , just read a book . I mean , come on , it is a cartoon we're talking about . If you have fun watching it , then it's served its purpose . So , for all of the Street Fighter fans out there , go for it . Two BIG thumbs up from me !
    • 021 4  Street Fighter II one of the truly classic arcade games is finally brought to film . Unlike that god awful Jean Claud Van Dam this film is not only entertaining but has some of the best martial arts fights ever . With incredible animation the fight are fast and furious . The music is also outstanding with the score writen by Korn and my favorite song Ultra by KMFDM which is played when Chun Li fights Vega . The voices are also excelent with M . Bisson being the most entertaining . The story deals with a criminal syndicate named Shadow Law that is headed by M . Bisson . Shadow Law has been abducting street fighter from around the world , brain washing them and turning them into pofessional terrorists . M . Bisson now hunts for a fighter known as Ryu , whom is said to be the best in the world . Meanwhile Interpole assigns two agents Chun Li and Guile to stop M . Bisson and shut down Shadow Law . If you like Hong Kong martial arts films such as Fists of Fury , Black Mask or even the american cult classic Enter the Dragon then this is a must . The pice is perfect and you willl not regret buying this title . Never befor have I seen such an action packed and entertaing martial arts film , even if it is an anime . Warning this film contains scenes of intense martal arts violence , language , and Nudity ( the imfamous Chun Li shower scene ) . Suggested viewing age is 15 and up .
    • 038 4  I was intreged much by the action and music . I loved how the movie explained the past on Ryu and the dogu ( temple ) . The music gave the action more to it . Rent this and you'll like as much as I did . Hey you might even buy it !
    • 041 4  One of the most entertaining action films I've ever seen , and definitely the best animated film I've seen . The fight scenes are intense and cool , the dialogue isn't too bad , and the music is great . Finally , they made Ryu the main hero / fighter ( which he is in the game ) and Guile a secondary character . The story flows perfectly without boring you during the non-fight-scenes . As for the unrelated fight scenes created just for the appearance of the fighters ( Zangief , Dhalsim , Blanka ) I thought this wasn't too bad cos fans of these characters would be disappointed to find their fav hero isn't in the ultimate anime movie , and there isn't enough room to fit every hero in the same plot . The only error in this film is , what the heck happened to Sagat and Balrog at the end ?
    • 047 4  SF II The Animated Movie is the best out of all the SF movies , and for good reasons . I first came across this movie about six years ago when I owned the Street Fighter Annaversery Collection Game for PS2 , ( It was an exclusive I guess ) , but anyways , with the epic opening fight between Ryu and Sagat , it blew my mind right outta the gate . The music was excellent , and really hyped up the intensity of every fight in the movie . The voice acting was very well done for an anime made back in the early 1990 ' s when voice acting just wasn't that good . The story is also what I think really made the movie . With Ryu , Ken , Bison , Guile , & Chun Li as main characters , and appearances from Vega , Balrog , E.Honda , Dhalsim , Fei Long , Cammy , & Blanka , this movie is sure to please any SF fan , young or old . The only gripe I have is the picture quality . I figured that the picture was inhanced along with the audio , well guess again . Hey Capcom ! How about a Blu-Ray release hmm ? Anyways , SF II The ANimated Movie gets a 5 / 5 .
    • 055 4  First off this is the only thing of any value with the street fighter 2 license . That being said the more you see it you start to see more and more problems . The art for one thing there are series and OVAs that came out around the same time that still look good today e.g . Outlaw Star ( 1998 , 2 years later , but still hand drawn ) , but this film and anime style doesn't hold up well . Second the film jumps around too much and this creates a lack of character development . It's called Street fighter , so why the focus on Ryu and Ken , while the other characters only pop in for a minute just to say hi . Third the music , okay you may like it if you like grunge rock as for other people its kind of grating . Even with all my issues with it , its still an alright movie just don't expect a lot of rewatchings .
    • 083 4  Being a big fan of the Street Fighter video game series , I naturally had to check out this anime that was released way back in 1995 . The story revolves around M.Bison , leader of Shadaloo ( along with his henchmen : Sagat , Vega , and Balrog ) , and his search for the ultimate warrior : Ryu . Unfortunately , Ryu is a hard man to find , so Bison kidnaps Ryu's childhood friend Ken Masters in an attempt to lure Ryu over to the dark side . Other Street Fighter favorites like Guile , Chun-Li , and E.Honda have some big roles to play , while we get to see cameos from Zangief , Blanka , Cammy , T-Hawk , Fei Long , Dhalsim , and Dee Jay . The animation itself is very nicely done ( action and fighting scenes are great ) , and the voice acting is surprisingly well done as well . All in all , while Street Fighter 2 : The Animated Movie isn't the best anime I've seen , it is pretty good , and fans of the video game should be pleased . And by the way , it is a lot , LOT , better than the live action Jean-Claude Van Damme debacle .
    • 085 4  This movie proves that SF2 the animated movie is the best SF movie.First of all it has the best characters , except Akuma , and they all do there best. The music and the brilliant sound effects are making this movie so real that you thing the fight is near you or you can feel the hits.Ryu and Ken are the main characters in the movie and thats another reason that this movie is great . In the movie we see M.Bison seeking for fighters around the world to make them soldiers for his evil organization Shadaloo. When Ryu beats Sagat , M.Bison right-handman , M.Bison wants to find him.Unfortunately , for M.Bison , Ryu is a hardman to find so he gets Ken instead and gives him some of his psycho power so when he meets Ryu he'll put Ken to fight him to see his power. If you want to know more you just have to bye this amazing movie and be sure you want be disapointed . For an end im just saying that everybody who likes the SF video games should see this movie .
    • 094 4  For a veteran of fighting video games like myself , to see a game come alive in the form of anime brings a certain level of giddiness that's almost indescribable . It brings such a rush to see the actual fighters from the game in animated form , beating the living snot out of each other in different locales of the world . But that's not all it takes . You need a good story , fluid , high-quality animation , and character designs that are at least close to the ones in the game . What a relief it was to find that Street Fighter II had all of this and more ! Anime based on fighting games is pretty hard to pull off well , but this is one of the few exceptions . Not only is this one of the two best fighting-game anime ever ( the other being the Fatal Fury movie ) , it's one of the best animated action flicks of all time . The plot / story is right out of the game itself , but with an added depth to it that keeps you interested through the whole film rather than just waiting for the next fight . The fighters interact with each other on a personal as well as physical level ; you see just how deep Ryu and Ken's relationship runs , as well as the inner workings of the evil M . Bison's Shadowlaw organization . The animation is so fluid it could almost pass off as live-action at first glance . The fight scenes themselves . . . wow . I've never seen fights so spectacularly done in anime . Word is the crew actually choreographed the scenes with actual martial artists before drawing them out . Seeing is believing ! The character designs are right on target , and most every fighter from the game is in here . Street Fighter fans have reason to celebrate about this one . About the only problem I saw with it was in the soundtrack . It was completely redone for the American release , with lots of alternative songs by popular artists of the time . The songs fit okay , but I at least would've preferred the original soundtrack . All told , though , this is the total package . For once , somebody got it all right . Even if you don't like fighting games but still want to see great action and a good story ( and incredible fights ! ) , get a hold of it . This is one of the new anime classics .
    • 130 4  An international terrorist organization that specialized in drug dealing and crimewaves called Shadowlaw is ran by the ruthless and powerful M . Bison has been searching for the best fighter of all time for years . Until now , he has found a wondering karate expert named Ryu who travels around the world and is the greatest fighter to ever unknownly grace the world and wants to capture him with the other champion fighters of the world so he can use them to conquer the world , it's up to U.S . Airforce fighter Guile , Chinese fighting beauty Chun-Li , Ryu and American martial arts expert Ken to join forces to battle against Shadowlaw and M . Bison . Superbly animated and action packed Japanese animated action flick is based on the popular game from Capcom is definitely one of the best anime movies of the 90 ' s next to Ghost in The Shell , Ninja Scroll , Perfect Blue , Princess Mononoke and Porco Russo . It's so much better than the abominable 1994 live-action movie which tainted the name of Street Fighter nearly , there's plenty of explosive action here and some nudity like the ever-so gorgeous Chinese chick Chun-Li in the shower showing off her knockers , this entertaining anime action romp is definitely one of the best animated action flicks ever . This new DVD has good remastering on the picture and sound quality with widescreen presentation for the first time ! there's two versions on both sides such as the extended English dubbed U.K . version with never-before scenes in America and has the KMFDM soundtrack and the original Japanese language extended version with never-before-seen footage in America , there's UK trailers , interactive player cards , trailers to other Manga releases and the DVD also contains an exclusive comic book . Get this movie if you love Japanese animation ! ranks up there with Akira , Ghost in The Shell , Ninja Scroll , Fist of the North Star , Hayao Miyzaki's flicks and Vampire Hunter D .

  • 040 4  I remember playing loads of Street Fighter II when it came out when me and my cousin would go head-to-head often or we would try to do the single player . After the incredibly lame live-action movie came out , the series actually gained a better respectability through its anime shows / movies . One such movie was the Street Fighter II animated movie which features some pretty cool fight scenes , a fan-favorite ( well if you're into that anyways ) shower scene and some spot-on characterization . If only it had a bit more story development and didn't have characters making glorified cameos . While in battle , Ryu displays some massive fighting capabilities which attracts the attention of General Bison , ruler of the Shadoloo syndicate . He's been researching the best fighters in the world and even putting some under control to do his bidding . So it's up to Ryu , his friend / rival Ken , detective and all-around cutie Chun-Li and soldier Guile to take down Bison . Like Mortal Kombat , Street Fighter II was a huge fan-favorite game when they first came out so it's of course obvious a film will be made . And this case , there is a story but it's not really the greatest . Characters drop out at times completely while others just merely get a cameo . Cammy is literally in 2 scenes , T-Hawk and Dee-Jay is in 1 and Fei Long is in one admittedly cool battle but that's it . The ones I mentioned before mainly get top billing alongside Vega , Balrog and E.Honda . It's really disappointing since it would've been nice to see more screen-time instead of the massive amount of time on Ryu and Ken ( more Cammy for instance ) but that's alright . How are the fight scenes ? Well , if you're a fan of Street Fighter you'll love them since not only are they quite fast ( and even brutal at times ) they're filled with moves directly from the game such as Chun-Li's hyper kick , E.Honda's slapping , Zangief's piledriver , as well as the infamous Haduken . Chun-Li's fight with Vega is a definate highlight since it's fast and it gets incredibly vicious at times . Not to mention it happens right after Chun-Li's shower scene which goes to show you the power of animation in getting you riled up over pencil drawings . Is it a good Street Fighter movie ? Of course but this isn't a top-tier anime title like Grave of the Fireflies or Akira but it's enjoyable nonetheless and for a movie based on a fighting game , that's pretty surprising .
    • 004 4  When Jean-Claude Van Damme came out with the live action movie , Street Fighter , a lot of people , especially video game fans , were disgusted . This movie was a spoof of a video game , not a translation . However , this tragedy would be avenged with the release of Street Fighter II : The Animated Movie . Unlike the live action film , this movie is extremely intense , decently parallel to the arcade story , and is overall a good movie . In the story , the evil organization known as Shadowloo is unleashing an icy grip over the world powers . Under the leadership of M.Bison , scientists Brainwash expert martial artists to assassinate world leaders . Bison's latest target is the legendary Ryu , who had recently defeated his top henchman , Sagat . Kidnapping his best friend and respected rival , Ken Masters , Bison plans to either add Ryu to his army , or destroy him . With the aid of Air Force Captain William Guile , Interpol agent Chun Li , and Sumo Wrestler Edmond Honda , Ryu wages a war against Shadowlaw , and prepares for a showdown with his best friend . The fights in this movie are spectacular , as the fighters from the smash hit video game execute signature moves . One of the most dazzling fights is the match up between Chun Li and Vega , which is very Matrix - like ( ironically , this movie was released five years before The Matrix ) . There's eye candy in the movie , too . ( Keep your eyes peeled for a cameo appearance by Akuma . ) With a dynamic storyline and a cutting edge soundtrack , Street Fighter II is a masterpiece .
    • 039 4  First the positive : I have to give this DVD some props , as it is the first time giving fans both the original Japanese audio version , as well as a widescreen presentation . The negative : Unfortunately , the transfer is quite horrible , probably the worst I have in my collection . VHS quality at best , plus it doesn't help that the transfer is only letterboxed in 4x3 , which means HDTV owners ( like myself ) have to zoom the image in , magnifying the bad quality elements . Another note on the letterboxing : it's not quite 1.85 : 1 . I've compared it to a couple other of my non-anamorphic dvds and noticed that too much picture is zoomed out on the top and bottom of the image , which leads me to my final complaint . This is a double-sided DVD , with the English on one side and Japanese on the other . The English transfer is worse than the Japanese transfer , and furthermore , the English transfer is not centered on the screen . The bottom black bar is much larger than the top bar . Now I don't know much about DVD authoring , but why couldn't they just put both audio tracks on the Japanese transfer ? Anyway , as much as I have slammed this DVD , I would still recommend it to fans . This isn't a very high profile movie , and I don't really expect a better release in the future , so this is probably the best we're going to get . I was disappointed , though .
    • 049 4  This review is from : Street Fighter II : The Animated Movie ( DVD ) Here in Mexico the movie were released on VHS and DVD on Spanish and no english or japanese soundtracks available at the time I have imported this DVD and the japanese soundtrack gives a better taste of the movie ( less childish ) The picture quality is terrible , specially watching on a 42 TV ; however , is OK for me taking into account that is a very old movie

    • 051 4  I bought this thinking the visuals were remastered same as the audio to 5.1 . Not so , this looks like a VHS transfer to DVD , even image jumps or has effects like the ones in planet terror . unfortunately the effects are not made on purpose . Don't buy this , wait for a blu ray version if one comes out anytime soon . Really dissapointed with [ . . . ]
    • 057 4  This review is from : Street Fighter II : The Animated Movie ( DVD ) I must have movie for anyone dedicated to the Street Fighter series . This movie is my personal favorite . I recommend anyone with a thirst for action purchase this movie .
    • 068 4  I really don't watch much anime at all , but when I stumbled across this movie I was seriously impressed . It's pure genius this film to sum it up . A very humble plot to this movie but somehow it completely works well . Ryu and ken will have you glued to the screen with their stories and fight sequences . Like the other reviews said there are loads of fights in this movies but all are great , all of them . Bottom line , whether you're a street fighter fan , a person looking to see anime or someone who just wants to watch an entertaining film , get Street Fighter II : Animated Movie and maybe like me this one will go in your personal hall of fame as a great movie .
    • 069 4  What can I say ? I've been a Street Fighter fan since it first appeared . I found the live-action version nauseatingly dissappointing and expected to find the same for both this version and the Alpha movie . I was wrong This movie follows the overall plot of the Street Fighter II game , with Ken Masters and Ryu having to confront Bison and his Shadowlaw syndicate . The fight scenes range from short and fast through to prolonged duels of will . The opening scene showing the famous fight between Sagat and Ryu that gave Sagat his scar . Masterfully done . What lets it down is the bad script . . . alot of it doesn't seem to really fit . . . but just ignore it and revel in the Hadoken effects hehe .
    • 079 4  I actually think the dubbed version with the heavy metal soundtrack is okay , but the original Japanese soundtrack was much , MUCH better . My friend had a fan-subbed copy of the original and I enjoyed it a lot more . The opening fight with Ryu vs . Sagat actually might be better in the American version but pretty much every other fight ( including the climactic battle at the end ) was better in the original Japanese . And music definitely has a huge impact on how much you enjoy a fight scene ! NOTE : If this is IS a version with both audio tracks ( the one I rented did not ) , I'd give it another star . As for the movie itself , just about everyone shows up , but some characters ( particularly Thunderhawk ) don't really match their personas from the game . The ending is also kinda silly . . .
    • 081 4  The show is great , the best Street Fighter movies ever produced . When you pop this DVD onto your DVD player and espect it to have nice fancy animation intro and menu . Sorry to dissapoint you . It will only play like a normal VHS . This is an English dubbed of a Japanese anime . the english voice actors are done pretty badly , the voice doesn't sounds like the voice the character should be . I would suggest to get a japanese with English subtitle ( if there are any ) . I watched the Japanese version , and they did a great job on voice , though I don't understand what are they talking about , I only read the subtitle . In this show , a good japanese dub with english sub is much better than a bad english dub .
    • 116 4  It really deserves three * ' s but I'm giving it 4 . . . although they screwed the original sound track into a rock / metal music that didn't even fit / matched the fighting or dramatic scenes , movie itself is EXCELLENT and you probably are not going to see better fighting choreography if ever . If your avid fan of SF and its history , you probably don't need the whole damn history lesson . But if this DVD / VHS movie is your first intro . to SF world ( very rare ) than this movie's storyline does wonderful job of introducing the movies main characters ( Ryu and Ken ) along with other main supporting casts . Story : Just like the video games , SF II storyline evolves around main characters Ryu and Ken . . . and it stays VERY faithful and TRUE to the original storyline . example : Ryu is a wondering martial arts master always looking for challenges to hone his skills to the next level . Ken is a California surf boy with a hot temper and blonde bombshell for a GF . IT also introduces all the characters up to SF II alpha series ( such as Cami , Hawk , Li Long etc . . ) . As SF II fans knows , M . Bison - the big boss of the most dangerous evil terrorist group in the SF world is in search of a GREAT warrior to brain wash him / her and use him for his conquest to dominate the world . To prevent this , Chun Li ( special agent ) recruits tough guy Guile from arm post to investigate M . Bison and try to stop his evil plan . . . that targets Ryu and Ken . This Anime Movie starts with a BANG with a feature fight between Ryu vs Saget ( which shows you why saget has that scar in his chest . . if you didn't know already ) . The fight scenes are choreographed so beautifully well , you'll always compare other action animations to SF II - the movie . Don't get the wrong idea simply because SF II has beautiful fight scenes . The movie also has good warm storyline about loyalty and friendship with simple twist of plot that keeps you watching ' till the very end and leave you with VERY complete satisfied feeling . If you were once or still are a huge fan of SF series , this movie DVD or VHS is a must own . But be warned , US version really did numbers of this movie and original score . . which does no justice since Japanese score blended with each and every scenes so well . . it's sad and angers me to no END ! ! four *
    • 119 4  when I recieved this in the mail today I was pretty damn happy to see one of my first animès on DVD . first off , the presentation itself is excellent ! in my opinion it rivals such greats as Ninja Scroll and Iria . if you own this DVD or have seen the packageing - - you'll notice that the back of the case says that it has been restored in its natural theatrical state . meaning . . . it is in letterbox , includes the cigarette burns in the corner and some specks on the film cells . don't listen to anyone that says it's standard . that's what I thought and I was pretty dissappointed . . . then I slowly realised . . . HEY ! they don't know what they're talking about ! it isn't standard after all . . . but that doesn't make this disc better than any other animè disc such as Ninja Scroll . simply because Ninja Scroll has more features such as 5.1 surround and ( atleast ) a scene selection ! this DVD just plays as soon as you put it in , but . . . ! HAH HAH ! you can fast-forward through the warning screen . that's what I like to see in my DVDs . other than all of this . . . it's just your same old Street Fighter II animè in digital stereo and letterboxed on DVD . again , this is the MATURE ( cool ) version . but , there are still NO boobies in this one , kids ! ! it's the Sony version , not the Japanese version . . . so if you're looking for a traditional version . . . try Amazon.co.jp . personally , I think the dubbing is pretty good , still cheesy . . . but very good nonetheless . also , if you are like me and dig bands like KMFDM , Alice In Chains , Intermix and KoRn . . . you'll want to get this one . I'm a bit of a metalhead , so I don't care what the other version sounds like . anyways , if you like this movie and you'd rather not spend a similar amount of cash on the VHS copy - - get this one . just ' cause it's in letterbox and it's digital . if you just don't want it , it's a free world . . . last time I checked . I'm probably wrong there . that's about it . hope that helped !
    • 139 4  It never fails . The formula for any game-to-movie is simply this : - Put in as many of the characters as you can . - Put in as many fights as you can . - Have a big showdown with the nominal villain . - Plot and storyline be damned . Street Fighter II does this . Now , you're probably thinking , But thats good if you like the Street Fighter games ! Well yeah , I've always been a big fan of the SF2 saga , but this movie was a disappointment . Essentially , there are four or five different storylines or plots in this movie . They all concern Bison to some degree , but no real single story to follow . This makes the whole thing boring . It especially gets boring after the famous Chun-Li / Vega fight . Its a great fight , and probably the only reason to watch the movie , but after that every thing is just predictable and dragged out . In fact , this entire movie pretty much feels dragged out . REGARDS TO THE DVD RELEASE - - - Its in no way a reason to buy , save if you're switching your video collection over to DVD . The film is still edited ( as seen by the edited Chun-Li shower scene ) . There's also the god-awful American soundtrack left in . If you liked the bad hard rock music from the video , you won't mind it , but if you don't like releases from Japanese countries being adulterated , then there's a problem . So its pretty much a waste of a DVD .

  • 062 4  Before I review the movie itself , I want to start by letting everyone know that I paid close to $40 for a new , sealed copy of this , when the seller actually ordered it from Walmart.com for $17 and had it shipped directly to me . So all he did was flip it for double profit , which I guess is fair in this capitalistic market , but I think the seller could have used a little more discretion about using this practice . So save some $ $ $ and try walmart.com first . It is an out of print DVD , so I believe they might be one of the last retailers with remaining new old stock . Now that's out the way , on to the DVD review . I had this movie on VHS years ago before DVD was the standard medium , and I still think it is still the best representation of Street Fighter in animation to date . The animation is excellent , and the characters ' personalities are very faithful to the how they should be . My only nitpick about the movie , after watching it again after all these years , is that the constant background music seems overdone , and tends to get annoying and overbearing at times , which I find a little distracting . Otherwise , I still enjoy this SF movie the most and recommend it to all fans of the SF saga .
    • 026 4  Where is the menu , and the japanise translation WHERE ? The only thing inside the dvd is the movie and that's it . No nothing , I would've bought the VHS if I knew the dvd was going to be the same . It was a waste of time making this into a dvd with nothing on it .
    • 042 4  This film in my opinion is way better then the Alpha movies . Because the fight scenes are fairly long enough to keep me watching unlike the Alphas , the story line isnt so deep and complicated which gets a load off my mind , and its just better then the Alphas . They also stick to the storylines of the original games . But one thing that annoyed me was the soundtrack , yes I know this was made during the mid nineties and Ken lives in Seattle so I guess they have to play grunge , but it still annoys me but I say this because of my musical preferances and what I think this movie should be like so dont let this influence you on not watching this film . Other good things about this film is the hilarious cameo made by Akuma and of course the Chun Li shower scene . No one can resist my PSYCHO POWER . Haha M . Bison and his crazy quotes .
    • 048 4  The uncut version of the movie gets about 3.5 stars . The 2 star rating is for this DVD . My biggest gripe with this DVD is that it is not truly widescreen . It looks widescreen but signal output is in 4 : 3 ratio , meaning the black bars are part of the image and you can never get rid of it , even on a 16x9 TV . This DVD is designed for those still watching on SD TV sets . The picture also does not look remastered , IMO . About the same as the old DVD that came out back in the 90s . Other than that , it has the uncut Chun Li shower scene on the Japanese side , and this is the first time an official US release included a Japanese language track ( to my knowledge ) . These are probably the biggest reasons to get this version over the others . If you don't own this movie in any other format , by all means pick up this one . I'm hoping there will be a bluray later , that is truly widescreen , remastered , and completely un-cut .
    • 096 4  Street Fighter II - The Animated Movie is amazing . It's without-a-doubt the best anime I've seen . I'm a devoted Street Fighter fan and truely enjoyed seeing a story-line and characterizations fit to serve Street Fighter . The only drawback was the lack of DVD features . Wait , maybe I should rephrase that . . . There are no DVD features . The DVD has no menu and begins like a VHS would . The only feature it has is that it allows you to skip scenes . I have not seen the Japanese version but from what I hear , this edition is an edited version of that one . I still believe this is a good buy .

  • 080 4  This one came after the horrid STREET FIGHTER II movie with Jean Claude Van Damme and I have to say , that I'm glad that this one came out because it made me forget that the live action Street Fighter ever existed . This Anime is really good . The action is very good , the animation is very fluid , the fight scenes are excellent and this stays a little closer to the actual Street Fighter story lines . The story follows the elusive , vagabond fighter Ryu . After defeating Sagat , he travels the world looking for a good fight and a great challenge . And he also reminisces about his friend and classmate , Ken . Ken is also looking for Ryu . But not far behind Ken is Bison who is also looking for Ryu and for different reaosns . Bison's Shadowlaw crime syndicate is kidnapping the best fighters in the world , erasing their memories and sending them to assassinate world leaders . But Bison should be worried as well because tracking him are Guile and Chun Li . It's a race for Guile and Chun Li to stop Bison and for Bison to find Ryu and Ken to find Ryu before Bison does ( boy that's confusing ! ) . It's a non-stop action Anime from beginning to end . Like I said before , I would take this any day over the Street Fighter live action . This one makes a much better attempt at staying true to the Street Fighter name and the action in this movie is amazing . Honestly , I could not pick out a best fight because there are a lot of them . I did have a dumbest fight and that was T-Hawk vs . Ken . I wasn't too fond of that fight and Blanka vs . Zangief could have been better . I will admit that those 2 fights weren't nearly enough to throw off the movie because it is totally awesome and it has more or less , the entire casr from Street Fighter II the New Challengers like T-Hawk , Cammy , DJ , Fei Long and even the favorites like Vega , Balrog , Honda and Dhalsim . Seriously , if you wanted to see a Street Fighter II related movie , this is your best option . Check out this anime and while you're looking for other great Animes , check out GHOST IN THE SHELL , NINJA SCROLL , FIST OF THE NORTHSTAR and even the FATAL FURY series . Now I do warn you that if you're looking for action , the FATAL FURY series ( except for FATAL FURY the MOVIE ) is a bit of a step down from STREET FIGHTER II but I will give it that the FF series has good story lines . Anyway , enjoy !
    • 002 4  There's been many Anime's based on fighting games , including Street Fighter , Fatal Fury , Tekken , etc . . . But , Street Fighter II : The Animated Movie is probably the most well made one out of the group . Exceptionally well drawn characters , incredible fight scenes , coherent story , there is a lot to like about this Anime . If there is anything that stands out , it has to be the awesome fight scenes . This Anime fully takes advantage of the fact that it is an animation , and not a real movie with real actors , and choreographs some spectacular moves together . Obviously , the reason I mention this is other Anime's have failed that simple task and churned out some real dull fight sequences . Street Fighter II : The Animated Movie , however , is a real eye-candy .
    • 005 4  Are you tired off all those cheap attempts by untalented people to bring Street Fighter to life ? Then get this , this is the COOLEST anime I have EVER seen ! If you put all the characters into a tournament it would be really dumb and you would never really learn about them . . . that is why this anime is so cool . . it doesnt do that . . . you have a story behind the movie . . . Each character has his / her own life and ambitions . . . the movie is very emotional ! ! You get to explore the history of Ryu's and Ken's friendship . . . the movie has EVERYTHING , - EXCELLENTLY CHOREOGRAPHED FIGHTING - real kung-fu and karate movies and styles were studied by the creators to bring this to life . . . the fight are very smart and emotional . . and totally exciting , which make you wanna scream yyyyyyeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh at some points ! ! ! EMOTION - the movie deals with such things as friendship and love . . . it emphasizes on something which is very rare in cinema at all , - affections and emotions of 2 friends ! you CANNOT stay untouched after very strong emotional scenes in the movie . . . some would make few people weep . . MUSIC - From fast-paced rock songs to beautiful and calm Japanese music . . . the movie integrates it all very smoothly . . I am not really that GREAT of a Street Fighter game fan , but this is the best ANIME i have EVER seen in my LIFE ! ANd I have seen alot of anime . . . I recommend this with all my heart ! ! = )
    • 008 4  SFII : TAM is a great anime if what you're looking for is hard-core action . The main stars are the [ butt ] - kickin ' Ryu , rich brat Ken , bad boy Guile and babe , Chun Li . They are all out to bring down the evil Bison and his lackeys , who want to take over the world ( surprise surprise ) Everyone from the game makes at least a cameo appearance in the film , and the brilliantly animated fights make up for any inconsistancies in the plot , such as the way that Guile , Honda and Balrog all survive a 100 foot fall , and why Bison doesn't use his psychic powers to kill off Ryu and Ken , even when he starts to lose the fight . Also , Guile and Chun Li come across as having a relationship in the film . One example is Guile's concern for Chun Li when she's getting shredded by Vega , and another is the way he actually shows an emotion other than anger when he's with her . There is a lot of swearing and blood that wasn't cut out of the special edition , as well as a shower scene especially for male Chun Li fans . It's not a film for little kids . Bottom line : The fights are so well animated that you get the feeling you could do a Dragon Punch if you practised hard enough .
    • 066 4  This review is from : Street Fighter II : The Animated Movie ( DVD ) Street Fighter II The Movie is hands down the best movie made that was based on a video game . Without compromising anything that was great about the fighting game they managed to create a feature length film that connects all of the games many characters . Its great to finally own this film without any of the censorship that occured in the previous releases . My only complaint is that its not anamorphic widescreen , really in this day and age is it really that hard to add this simple feature for widescreen T。's ? Must I watch this film on my beautiful LCD HDTV as a small square in the middle of a big 40 screen ? Lazy work on the part of Manga . Great film , decent DVD release that is ruined because it lacks one simple feature .
    • 108 4  This movie is da bomb ! ! ! One thing I love about SFII : TAM is the intro when Sagat and Ryu were fighting and the lightning was flashing . The fight scenes were absolutely terrific through the whole movie . Who ever directed the fight choreography sure new what they were doing . My complaint is that they should have kept the concept of having the world warriors compete in a tournement like it was in he video game . That way it would have been easier to emphasize a little more on each individual fighter instead of having fight scenes which seemed incomplete and / or insignificant . Despite any complaint I may have , this movie has a good story , it never gets boring , and it leaves Fatal Fury : TMP , which lacks the true matial arts action SF : TAM possesses , in the dust . ( I only wish I could find the Japanese version . If anyone knows where I can find the Japanese version in the Los Angeles area please e-mail me . )
    • 141 4  i want you to reveiw the animated movie for street fighter II . also i went to oder the DVD for that .
    • 146 4  hello friends . . . you will contact with me ? i wait your message for Street fighter II .

  • 091 4  I agree 110% w / the guy that said the Cry song from the original soundtrack is a great song . It makes the whole movie . Enough said . I prefer the Japanese version language and all to the corny U.S.version . Please God hear our cries and redo this movie with the original soundtrack . Amen .
    • 053 4  the animation , voices and bgm is dull but since it is S.F . it's ok for the average fan . . .

  • 093 4  This has been called the best fighting game anime . . But , this was one of the first anime to suffer from Americanization , and that doesn't sit well with purists such as myself . While the dubbing may be cheesy here and there , I actually liked the voices for the characters . The animation is superb . My only two complaints are that Chun-Li's shower scene was cut from both the PG - 13 AND the Mature version . Why both ? My second complaint is that the music has been changed to suit the mainstream audience . I haven't heard the Japanese music , but it's probably better . What we got is actually not too bad , though . The story itself is incredibly basic , and it needs to drag sometimes just to make it seem less so . Overall , if you like Street Fighter , check it out , or if possible , grab the fansub .
    • 009 4  This is the best fight amine out there . I have seen the others . Fatal Fury was okay , but not enough fighting . Tekken and Ayane's High Kick were fair . But the plot , music , and fight scenes in this movie make it heads above the rest . The story is interesting and the animation is well done . The DVD is only in English , no special features . Nevertheless , the movie on it's own is reason enough to see it .
    • 056 4  This movie is a must have for Street Fighter fans around the world as their collection . The best ever movie Capcom has made for Street Fighter franchise .
    • 058 4  I must have movie for anyone dedicated to the Street Fighter series . This movie is my personal favorite . I recommend anyone with a thirst for action purchase this movie .
    • 072 4  I really dislike anime but this is an awesome movie . Great story plot they put together and the characters look awesome !
    • 073 4  I think that this movie is one of the best animated movies to have ! ! Thank god I ordered this movie and i will be getting it soon and I can't wait ( . . . ) ! ! I recommend this movie to anyone who is a street fighter fan ! ! !
    • 074 4  All I have to say is that the scene where Chung Lee fights with that psycho Vega , is absolutely incredible ! I first saw this movie after I came back from a very fun night on the town . I sure enjoyed this movie ! Afterwards I passed out on my friend's couch and woke up just with my pants off . Woohoo ! ! ! Overall I give the night a 3 star rating and the movie a 4 star rating .
    • 105 4  This isn't the best anime ever , and there are some plot problems . But still , I loved this movie . The soundtrack was the best I've heard yet in Japanese animation . The fight scenes were awesome and much more realistic than in Fists of Fury . I don't expect everyone to love it , but it's definitely worth seeing .
    • 110 4  This is one awesome anime ! . The art and action are also excellent . The story is highly developed but easy to follow . I am not a big fan of the games , but I know the story enough to enjoy this film . Don't let the mature audiences only warning on this page throw you off because there isn't really anything that bad in it except minor language and fighting in panties . This is a must have for Anime and Street Fighter fans alike !
    • 112 4  I personally liked this movie . You dont have to be a street fighter fan to love it . The only thing I hate about this dvd is that there is nothing extra on it . It could of had some more languages or art work in it.This movie still is one of the best out there .
    • 125 4  I would normally give this film 4 / 5 but this is a very poor DVD presentation . First of all , there are no special features . There's not even a menu screen or scene selection . I'm not kidding , the film just automatically plays . Second of all , Chun Li's shower scene is shortened . So this DVD is NOT uncut . But that aside , it is a top quality anime and almost as good as Fatal Fury . Buy this if you can find it at a low price . The DVD is in Dolby Stereo and is letterboxed at 1.85 : 1 .
    • 126 4  This movie is so awesome its one of hte greatest anime ive ever seen its like an adult movie and the story line is awesome also . I like this 1 better than alpha , this one is definitely worth youre cash .
    • 136 4  Just got the dvd in the mail today . This is the ALMOST proper version of the movie as opposed to that horrible english dub that was put out years ago . The only major problem I had with this version was the new translation of the subtitles , which pissed me off . I watched the original version when it first came out and there was definitely a difference this time around . It seems to me that Manga tried to change around the translation a bit to make it more americanized . Also adding the lyrics into the songs onto the screen , which annoyed the hell out of me cause it was distracting when watching the best two fights of the movie . Nonetheless this is the closest its gonna get to the original japanese version . So if you really want the real deal its worth a buy . ( ps : I really would give the movie 5 stars cause I love it , however the translation bothered me on this dvd so I gave it a 3 for the dvd . )
    • 138 4  The product that I recieve came to me a short time . The product was well package and there were no issues with the dvds . Thank you for the dvds and deliver of the dvds as well . Merry Christmas .
    • 140 4  This is the best street fighter anime i have ever seen
    • 149 4  Sunday , August 01 , 2004 / 3 of 5 / Ultimately disappointing . An ultimately disappointing anime based on the famous Capcom franchise . Due to the volume of characters that would populate the SF2 world , the inability to give each their due is a failing . Zangief and Blanka and numerous others are given short shrift in favor of the Shotoklones . There are story arcs that die in dead ends , almost as if this was only part of a larger story . I'm told the Alpha movie is better and will investigate that . While it was neat to see the combatants rendered to screen as anime , it just didn't measure up , joining other conversion disappointments like Toshinden , Tekken , and Night Warriors . Oh well , at least we have Mame32 to play them all .

  • 095 4  Simply the best animated movie ever to be made , not the original version but it is excelent anyways. The action scenes are wondeful and the animation is great.Lets be honest , this anime is better than many new animated movies . This movie with its original music and the original dialogal would a blast ! Buy it but remember there are two different version of this movie.Buy the mature version , after all it is the more similar to the original version ( Japanese version ) but if you find the japanese version just don't stand there , it would be your lucky day !
    • 016 4  This is one one my favorite movies of all time , simply excellent . The fight scenes are astronomical and the plot keeps your attention throughout the whole thing . This is the real deal . Alpha came out in 2000 , but other than some cool new re-draws of the characters , it doesn't hold up against the greatness this one started with . An awsome movie for Street fighter and anime fans alike .
    • 029 4  The streetgighter movies are great , good stories and fight scenes . Stay away from the Series though . . . . . it is very boring and repetitious .
    • 032 4  The voice acting stinks and the script is laughable . Some of the characters look like they're out of fifties cartoons . But who cares ? ? ? The fight scenes are . . . awesome dude ! ! ! And that's what this entire movie is , non-stop seamingly pointless fight scenes . . .
    • 090 4  Strong points : Great animation , the music ( not the songs ) is very good , the opening scene is superb . Shortcomings : some characters didn't have their share of the action . Eg , Guile was completely escluded of all fighting scenes .
    • 097 4  Love the game love the movie . Just get it and don't ask any question . Yeah they could of gone in to more detail with some of the charaters but it still great . Final Crticism : Story line-good / Animation - good / Overall - Great , get it
    • 100 4  Of all the movies ( not just Animes ) this is one of the best . The storyline is incredibly brilliant . And all the characters perfectly depict the ones from the game . The writers found a way to bring all the characters in the story .
    • 114 4  This is great ! The fights , story , and animation are above excellent , and includes an awesome climax .

  • 098 4  well after viewing this film 5 times since i bought it last week I have come to a conclusion that this film is WICKED ! ! ! ! if you have any doubts about buying this film , you have problems .

    • 107 4  Great anime ! Sure , some of the translations are corny , and there were scenes cut from the Japanese version , but this movie STILL rocks . Some of the greatest fighting animation I've seen , and the soundtrack is awesome !

      • 115 4  When I saw this movie 10 years ago I thought it was amazing how they captured the essence of streetfighter characters from our favorite video game so well in an anime . Especially how the 2D animated moves from the video game made it into the movie without looking too weird or fake compared to the game I and many others loved so dearly in our youth . There have been no other streetfighter animes that have captured the essence of the characters so well as in this classic SF movie . I've seen other SF anime's and none have capture the classic street fighter feel as well as this one has . The characters are how you'd imagine them to be from the video game adn this is the best thing about this movie is that it captures the essence of street figher 2 , the characters and the awesome and excitement of the fights .
        • 014 4  Having seen a fansubtitled version with the original music and dialogue , I have to say this new version is really crappy in comparison to the one I saw so long ago . . . The music , though Japanese , just fit the action much better than that Alice in Chains stuff . And they didn't bog down the dialogue with stuff like one , two , THREE strikes YOU'RE OUT ! ! I have but one request : release a DVD version that has the original dialogue and music tracks . If I could even snag a copy from overseas that had subtitles I'd be happy .
        • 015 4  First of all , I'd have to say that this is the best video game to movie conversion ever done . The plot is well developed , even a person who has never played the game can follow up on this quickly . It isn't simply a fighting movie , there is well layed story that never slows down or gets boring . I think that the voices were excellent and fit the fighters well except for a few characters , this doesn't hinder the viewing pleasure of this movie in any way . From the start to finish you are put into an edge of your seat action that only increases as the movie comes to an end . My only complaint is wheres the sequel ?
        • 044 4  I do agree the original version is better than the americanized one but the movie is still good. The story was kinda predictable but at least it stayed true to the storyline in the video game. The action scenes are just the best there is.I was so exited to see my faves character doing at least one of their moves. All of them appeared and that's something we should be graceful for.The music ( The original score ) is the perfect one for the mood of the story , it has some great songs.I don't think they made a good job by replacing it by Heavy Metal , it's just not what this anime is about. The animation is great , one of the best there is.I'd seen many anime movies from 1995 or older and I got to say few of them has such a great animation. Here's my rating for it : Story : * * * Animation : * * * * * Music : Japanese = * * * * * English = * * 1 / 2 Character Development : * * * 1 / 2 Sound Effect : * * * * * Overall : * * * * or maybe * * * * 1 / 2 depending of the version u watch
        • 064 4  I have been looking for the original Japanese version for years . Now I have both on the same disk . Its great ! ! !
        • 078 4  Did the loss of some key scenes make a difference ? Not really . Did the plot need more work ? Yes definitely . However , if you watch it for what it is ( an attempt to bring a video game to life on the screen ) it ain't that bad . Some great fight scenes , and some pretty good animation work which still stands up today . Let's face it , if you're a street fighter fan ( and I am one ) , you'll love the first moment one of the characters uses a signature move from the game . You could do a lot worse .
        • 103 4  This is a great Anime . I haven't seen the ten volumes yet though . I will , because I loved this and I want to see how the other tapes are . The only problem with this Anime is that it really leaves you hanging . I just couldn't get enough . When it ended I thought It can't end like this , but it hasn't . It's only begun , there's 10 volumes of tapes each 1 hour and 30 minutes . I can't wait to see those . If you liked Street Fighter : The Animated Movie , than you should watch those too . But one thing I can't understand is why THIS is the Street Fighter Animated Movie . I mean it doesn't look like it's any different than those other 10 volumes , the 10 volumes are also about 1 hour and 30 minutes each , Oh well I guess it's because this is the begining , the introduction , and what an introduction it is .

      • 120 4  the best fighting anime Ive seen so far , the whole story was pretty well done considering they had to develop it around a video game with no base story to connect all the characters . the music here is perfect for each scene and the fighting sequences are simply awesome , a true state of the art martial arts violence anime . the most outstanding fight in my opinion was Chun-li VS Vega , a real adrenaline rush . this one is worth buying , just don't bump into someone you don't like after seeing this , . you'll surelly be feeling quite stimulated . . . heh
        • 104 4  This is really a great little movie.I don't officially own a copy of it , but I hope to ( someday ) . The animation is really good , has a few problems though. If you want a good movie to watch one weekend , I recommened this. For your money , it's worth it !
        • 135 4  Really really cool , a must see for video game fans or anime fans alike - - you don't even have to be a fan to enjoy this , if you watch it , it'll probally make you a fan .

      • 127 4  This is just about the best Street Fighter movie made . But it sure isn't as good as it should be . First of all the American voice acting is terrible . Listen to Ken Master's dribble as Bison is taunting him . The best part is when Guile gets to fight Bison . But he loses . He doesn't get his revenge . And Chun Li never even sees Bison . She never gets her revenge . She's stuck in the hospital after a fight with Vega . The fight is REALLY cool though . At the end of the movie you see Ryu and Ken standing by the side of the road . This is the WORST part of the movie . They're supposed to be best friends but they have absolutely nothing to say to each other . Ken's ride comes and he hops in the car . He asks Ryu if he would like a ride but Ryu would rather walk . Ken says See ya and the car speeds away leaving Ryu in the dust . Best friends ? I have better conversations with my enemies . Then Ryu goes walking down the road . All the sudden Bison pops up driving a truck . Ryu jumps to fight the truck that is speeding at him . That's when the movie ends . If it went on a few seconds longer you'd see Ryu's remains after the truck slammed into him . The only word that can describe that ending is STUPID !
        • 010 4  If you are a fan of Japanese animation and Hong Kong kung fu movies , this movie will be a pleasure to watch . It stays true to the original video game , it shows the awesome skills of Ryu as he teams up with his long lost fellow student Ken Masters , who almost is the equal to Ryu , to fight the evil Bison with his collection of fighters . The animation is very well done and the movie has a cool soundtrack , if you like rock and alternative . I'm a big Bruce Lee fan , so I wanted Fei Long , the mirror image of Lee , to have had a bigger part in the movie . The fight between Ryu and Fei Long had to be one of the best , it's one of my favorite scenes in the movie . I hope , if it's not out already , they will have a sequel to this anime . So if you haven't seen it yet and you like the video games that it is based on , I would highly recommend it .
        • 018 4  Ive seen both the original Japanese version and American version . The downside to the American version are the various cuts they made . Not only the Chun Li shower scene , but also her fight with Vega ( Balrog in the Japanese version ) in the hotel room , which was the best fight in the movie . Also Ryu's fight in the very beginning and various other tidbits here and there . The upside is that they redid the sound track , and the new rock tunes actually add alot to the movie . It also sounds like they redid the sound effects and everything . . bones seem to have more * crunch * when broken in this version . The voice overs arent nearly as horrible as many dubbed movies are . It still doesnt compare to the superior Japanese voice acting . . . but it could be worse . The action is fast and furious , as it should be . The plot is generic . . as it should be : ) I think this movie is over priced considering it is edited regardless of the Uncut title and the fact that theres no Japanese language / English subtitle option . I'll be buying it used . . but i'll be buying it .
        • 019 4  I like this . This is the first animated fighting movie I saw . And it is still the best . Fluid animation and beatiful backgrounds makes this one defintly a looker . The story is so-so but that not why you watch this . It's the fight and boy are they cool . Very realistic . But there are some bad things . And that is the DVD . It's old and censored ( Chun-Li's breasts isn't showed in the shower scene ) . It does not contain anything except the movie and a bad menu . I found nothing wrong with the video though .
        • 020 4  This is probably the best anime ever created , based on a video game title . But the sad thing about this DVD version is the lack of the original japanese dialogs , soundtrack and cut scenes ( Like the entire Chun Li shower scene ) . I would not recommend you to get this DVD version unless you can't find the original japanese version with english subtitles . But I hope that they will rerelease this title with an addition of the original jap . soundtrack and cut scenes .
        • 030 4  Unlike the live-action movie of street fighter with jean claude van damme this one had a better storyline and it sticked with the real main charcter Ryu rather then guile . If you are a street fighter fan I highly recommend this one and Street Fighter Alpha. This movie starts out with Ryu fighting against Sagat or someone that looks like him anyway , it's a great scene by the way. Also a great fighting scene to is ryu and ken fighting against the boss of all street fighter games.DVD or videocasste it doesn't matter it will turn out great in the end besides the DVD version really does not have many extras just some stuff . Anyway I hope you buy because I did .
        • 033 4  I really loved this movie . It's was great in my opinion . All of the fight scenes were awesome , especially the one between Chun Li ( my fav character ) and Vega , when he ambushes her in her apartment . Let's just say girlfriend gives him a real reason to wear the mask . . . The movie stays true to the original storyline of the game . YES ! I hated the Van Damm live action version . Don't even get me started on that . . . I personally thought the music was okay . It seemed to fit in particular areas ( in the part when Dee Jay beats the [ tar out ] of these guys in a bar hip hop music is playing the background and when Chun Li fights Vega there's this rock music that seems to fit with the instensity of the fight ) , although I have yet to see the subtitled version with all of the original music in tact . While the plot line predictable and some the dialogue dorky ( Bison : You're no match against my psychopower ! YUCK ! ) , all in all very much enjoyable .
        • 035 4  I LOVE THIS MOVIE ! it has the best fighting scenes ever showed in a cartoon ! It featured all of the 8 original characters and everytime Ryu fought , he'd always show excellent skills ! and the movie wasn't a different version from the game , like other stupid movies do !
        • 046 4  This review is from : Street Fighter II : The Animated Movie ( DVD ) SF II The Animated Movie is the best out of all the SF movies , and for good reasons .
        • 063 4  I love street fighter this movie continues the series and offers fans the fight they waited for Ryu vs Ken and I loved watching it . The fast pace kept the action smooth and the plot was just what a street fighter movies needed . Its a noteworthy buy and great add to Street Fighter IV fans since this a movie bases sequal to the series .
        • 086 4  I first saw this movie on the Sci-Fi Channel ( somehow Street Fighter counts as sci-fi ) and the first thing I noticed about it was the artwork quality . It's fantastic . But what about the rest of it ? A painfully simple storyline ? A rather ' impolite ' Ryu ? And if you happen to resort to buying the . . . DVD in the UK . . . Cheap and trashy subtitles ? No original Japanese voice-overs ? ( An anime DVD is not an anime DVD without the original Japanese voice-overs ! ) Well , the main menu was pretty impressive , but they could have supplied the soundtrack separately . ( I can't even buy THAT in the UK ! ) But , enough whining , the DVD is okay . I'm being generous with the rating and only because the artwork is impressive .
        • 109 4  Much MUCH better the live-action movie street Fighter Of course it pales to the Japanese version . But the Englishize version is well done . I esp . love the voices of Chun Li , Ryu , and Master Bison and the soundtrack fits the situations very well with a mix of heavy metal industral . A must have for Street Fighter nuts like myself . ! ! !
        • 117 4  I really loved this movie . It's was great in my opinions . • 129 4  worked fine no worries . but its not totally uncut its missing a swear word from guile but everything els was sweet

      • 131 4  An awesome movie ( as attereated by the title of this review ) , the fight scenes where 10x of what the Tekken motion picture was . The only thing that was ( just a little ) disappointing was the mass of the charectors . Completely inhuman , but this is Japanime , so I can live with it . It still was an awesome movie , I would recommend it for audiences of 13 - 14 or up . It has a little language but nothing too severe . Blood is at a minimum , and violence is nothing extremely too brutal . * cough * Underworld * cough * . Over all I completely enjoyed it , I would recommend it to anyone that is 13 or older .
        • 022 4  Streetfighter remains as one of the most entertaining animes because of its direct translation from the manga and computer game series . The story is a typical battle between the worlds best fighters with a conspiracy plot thrown in . It has good quality voice acting , exellent fight scenes and smooth animation . It comes highly recommended as it will appeal to any fan of the action genre . It certainly does'nt have the depth of other animes but it makes up for it with constant action that always entertains .
        • 065 4  If you liked the Street Fighter games and you like Animation . This is the movie for you . This movie has great animation and a Awesome soundtrack ! ! ! It's the classic final battle of good and evil !
        • 082 4  This is really kool man , if you are a SF game fan then its a must see . . . Its great for those also with Martial Arts related interests .
        • 111 4  This has to be the single best representation of the classic Capcom video game .
        • 113 4  This movie is Great ! It has a plot , follows the video game closely , and has great action scenes .
        • 128 4  This is such a disgrace to the SF name . I cant believe they didnt put in the original japanese dialog with english subtitles in it . By far the most disappointing translation yet . And god . . . . the soundtrack . ugh . . . . KMFDM , Alice in Chains ? It just doesn't work for it in this movie . If only a true translation would come out . If you were a fan of the original , stay clear by all means . If its new to you , you won't be missing much .

      • English Version : This version has the full shower scene which is about the only improvement it has over the previous DVD release . The altered soundtrack is still there . Furthermore , the picture looks very washed out and the focus is very soft , almost to the point of blurring . The widescreen is non-anamorphic and , to make matters worse , not ever centered on the screen ! The viewable area is a little more to the top that the bottom , making it look very unprofessional . This side has extras , but the extras only include the UK trailer for the movie and some other Manga trailers . Japanese Version : This is the original version . The color looks great and the picture is sharp , at least if you play it on a television . Play it on your computer and it looks all grainy and glitchy , especially during action scenes . The original soundtrack is there in all it's glory . There are English subtitles which are on by default , but you can turn them off . The viewable area of the widescreen is centered this time which is good . The only extra on this side is character profiles that link to each character's fight scenes . Overall , this is the superior version just because of the picture and soundtrack . As for the movie itself , it's a classic which I consider about 4 stars . The fight scenes are great and the story is respectable . Nothing much more I can say about it that hasn't been said dozens of times before . The DVD also comes with a mini comic book . Not bad for the price , but far from the perfect release I was hoping for . Oh , and the cover shown is a slip cover . The cover to the actual DVD is the same as the UK version's cover if that makes any difference to anyone . For the price , I say pick it up and hope for a superior re-release in another few years .
        • 006 4  YES , THE FULL SHOWER SCENE IS IN . That said , I just bought this DVD this morning and it appears I get to be the first to review the finished product ! Sadly , this release is somewhat disappointing . To put it bluntly , it's very bare bones . To the moron that was absolutely giddy thinking this DVD was going to be a hacked up full screen version , IT'S WIDESCREEN ! Not anamorphic widescreen , but at least widescreen . The only people who would want fullscreen are people that don't understand what fullscreen really is . The disc is two sided . One side contains the English version and one contains the Japanese version . I have found that BOTH VERSIONS ARE CROPPED on all 4 sides a little bit from the original Japanese import version I have on DVD and neither compare in picture quality . Here is a summary of each : English Version : This version has the full shower scene which is about the only improvement it has over the previous DVD release . • 034 4  This movie is good but whyyyyyyyyyyy did they had to change that beautiful musiccccccc ( I was really crying when I said these last two lines ) . The ORIGINAL MOVIE it totally a blast , a recomendation to everyone who is or isn't a fan of street fighter.I am a fan of it from long time ago as I can recall but I just can't let pass a thing like this , it is humilating , even Fatal Fury got a better music than this anime did.The only reason for not giving it 3 stars is because I still hope hat a good company such as PIONEER or MANGA VIDEOS will try to save this movie by giving it a whole new dubbing and returning it its original music.Only if this happen I will finally die in peace : ) But had you only heard that beautiful song called CRY played during the battle between Chun-li and Balrog ? Oh , that song really broke my heart , it is the best song EVER ! ! ! ! ! but they just replaced it for some crappy music that I can't even remember what the name is ( If it has any ) . So as I said before I still hope and I know that someday a GOOD company will remaster this anime beacuse it is just so good to just let it go
        • 036 4  Let me make this plain and simple . . . . THIS IS THE BEST ANIME MOVIE ! i've seen it more then 50 times ! and i still cant get enough of it ! so what are you still here for ? go and watch it !
        • 043 4  Pure action , awesome animation , truly captures the essence of what is Street Fighter . I've heard complaints of it having ' no story ' . . well NEWSFLASH ! STREET FIGHTER IS NOT ABOUT THE STORY ! If you are true to the original video games you know just as well that Street Fighter is a simple action title about pure fighting and THATS where this movie shines . We can all see what happens when you try to integrate a story into Street Fighter , you get the horrible PoS that is Street Fighter Alpha : The Movie . The only downside to this DVD is its lack of Extra's or even a movie menu , otherwise this DVD is a must buy for Street Fighter Fans and Action-Anime fans alike .
        • 124 4  * I am not Street Fighter otaku , but there's just something inside of me that wants to sit down with this movie and watch all the mind-numbing action while Shinohara Ryoko's theme song - - ' ' Itoshisato , Setsunasato , Kokoro Tsuyusato ' ' - - is blaring in the background . The ONLY reason I never went to see this film in the movie theatres is because the American distributors ( who ALWAYS seem to think they know what we the public want or what's best for us ) scrubbed out the original Japanese music soundtrack and replaced it with . . . AMERICAN ROCK and HEAVY METAL ? ? ? Don't get me wrong , I enjoy rock & metal music , especially with action oriented films , but this kind of music works best with AMERICAN animated features - - like ' ' Heavy Metal : The Movie . ' ' Cheating the viewers by removing the original language pop music soundtracks from JAPANESE anime action films like ' ' Street Fighter II ' ' is just as inappropriate as if Artisan ( Disney ) had replaced Hisaishi's beautiful and stirring soundtrack for ' ' Mononoke Hime ' ' with Bach and Mozart . The fact that the American DVD release did not include MENU OPTIONS for either : ( 1 ) - The original JAPANESE music soundtrack and ( 2 ) - The original JAPANESE voice performances with [ supposedly ] ' literal ' English translation subtitles , this feature receives an AUTOMATIC ' ZERO STARS ' from me . Had the US DVD release presented us with those two options , then , sure , I would have LOVED to have given the ' Americanized ' version a sitting through just to see how everything compared and to get two separate and distinct feelings and cultural interpretations of the film . As it stands now , however , I have only two options : Either purchase an original copy direct from Japan - - which is rather costly and does not include English subtitles ( being how my Japanese is not yet sufficient enough to understand the film's dialogue ) or to just wait half an eternity for the American distributors to ' get their act together ' and GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT ! *
        • 142 4  Obiouslly Steet Figher animated movie is PURE FAST HIGH QUALITY ACTION-PACKED ! ! ! ! But with this dvd is not perfect : The dvd has two sides : Side #1 English version and Side #2 Japanese version . Here are the pros and cons : JAPANESE VERSION : Pros : * The audio and video were remastered . * The voice acting is SO MUCH better than the English version . * The action scenes were TOTALLY UNCUT . Cons : * Is not EXTENDED as the English version . * The soundtrack is TERRIBLE ! ! ! ! The music doesn't fit with the movie scenes , ESPECIALLY with the action scenes ! ! ! ! I can't believe that this is the original soundtrack . ( I was VERY DISSAPOINTED with the fight with Chun Lee and Vega ) . ENGLISH VERSION : Pros : * VERY GOOD soundtrack , not perfect but WAY MORE BETTER than the Japanese version . The action scenes have more energy with the rock music and the intro music is SO ORIGINAL and COOL ! ! ! * The movie is extended . Cons : * HORRIBLE voice acting and the dialoge is even worse . ( The ONLY good voice was Guile's ) . * The audio and video were NOT remastered . * Not ALL the action scenes were uncut as the Japanese version . Conclution : I think that the Engish version is the best because of the soundtrack that gives more fun and energy to the movie , the Japanese version was NOT so cool but it was remastered . Adios .
        • 147 4  When I bought this dvd I thought it was an anime ( japanese cartoon ) but it turned out to be a cartoon , and it is not related to any of the street fighter anime ( street fighter vII , street fighter : alpha movie + generation and street fighter II : the movie ) . The difference between anime and cartoon is that cartoon's have no sense physics , for example , there is a scene where one of the heroes jumps from a plane to a surfacing sub as if it is a normal jump and he feels nothing and when he trips on in the sub he feels some pain . And in the cartoons the graphics stinks , the dubbing stinks and the story also stinks . This cartoon shows the good guys always winning and learning morals while the bad guys like the vil leader bison loose easily and look like whimps , like every common thug . If you are a street fighter fan do not buy this dvd PERFECT FOR KIDS BETWEEN THE AGES 6 - 11 OR POSSIBLY 12
        • 148 4  I'M LIKE THE CHARACTER RYU , VERY PATIENT AND READY ALWAY'S ! SEE WHAT'S AROUND YOU AND STAY BALANCED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SITUATION NO MATTER WHAT ! ! AS IN LIFE DEPICTED ON FILM IT IS ALWAY'S THOUGHT AND PATIENCE THAT PREVEILS . PEACE ALWAY'S ! ! !

      • Some of the scenes deserve the Japanese soundtrack ( like the Ken and Ryu vs . Bison / Vega fight ) , on the other hand , silverchair's Israel's Son is fitting for that scene where Ken drives his car on the Golden Gate ( ? ) to see his girl ( . . . you're late for your execution , if you're not here soon , I'll kill your friend instead . . . , probably about what's going to happen later in the movie ) , or when he's driving around with his girl around Washington Lake with Alice In Chains ' song Them Bones in the background ( . . . I feel so alone , gonna end up a big ol ' pile of them bones . . . , I guess that is how he was feeling ) . Another fitting one was when they put that KMFDM song Ultra during the fight between Chun-Li and Vega / Balrog ( . . . give it to me , I want your fire . . . ) . Korn's Blind is a good end credits music . I don't know if it fits , but it still sounds cool ( even though I don't like Korn ) . It all makes sense , the way they put the English ( not necessarily American because silverchair is Australian ) music in some scenes of the movie . The dubbing is NOT that bad , but could have done better ( Ninja Scroll , anyone ? ) , The DVD is MUCH , MUCH BETTER than the VHS . Hey , at least it ain't like Tekken the Movie when they totally butchered the Offspring song in the end credits ( song does not fit the ending of the movie at all ) . I just wished they had an option of subtitled , Japanese trailer , keeping the deleted scenes in ( like Chun-Li's shower scene , and I think a few more scenes ) , or different angles for an option in viewing between the true Japanese version and the American . Unlike Ninja Scroll , however , ( and I hate to say that ) , this one has one of the most realistic fighting scenes in an anime , most of the moves in the movie can be done in real-life ( trust me , I tried it ) . Anime purists need not to watch this , as close-minded as some of you are , but if you really want to watch this flick , get the unrated version ( I don't know if they still make the PG - 13 version of this movie , if they do , DON'T GET IT ! ) , you just might like it . Newbees to Anime , get this as a beginner's movie , or Akira . All in all , great movie , highly recommended .
        • 037 4  The animation is good . The fight scenes are some of the best ever put on tape . Dubbing is fine and the fight scenes are some of the best ever put on tape ( I know , I know , I've already mentioned that but I'd like to mention it again ) . Okay , the storyline may not be the best but it's entertaining none the less . Highlight of this film is the Vega vs . Chun-Li fight . Now that's entertainment !
        • 054 4  I can honestly say that I'm disappointed in this release . My only comfort is that it cost $13.99 . Like many others I believe this is a great movie , my disappointment is in the quality related to the transfer to DVD . My biggest peeve is that it's not a true widescreen edition . The picture will not fill up your 16 : 9 television set . Instead it's 4 : 3 picture with bars at the top and bottom to make it widescreen . It's basically the same as if you were watching a VHS tape on a SD television set . Unlike others though , I feel the soundtrack for the English version is much better than the Japanese version . The music really makes a difference during the fight scenes . It's too bad the picture seems washed out as others have pointed out . The Japanese version on the other hand is much more colorful but the fight scenes seem less intense due to the soundtrack . If you just want a copy of this movie on DVD then I would recommend it , however if you want a good version on DVD , just wait and hope for something better in the future .
        • 070 4  This movie was the first anime movie I saw and it is one of my all time favourites being that Im a Street Fighter fan.I bought the VHS version some time ago and loved it.I recently bought the Street Fighter Anniversery game on Xbox that contains the movie.HMMMM well kind of.The version on the xbox / ps2 has been edited down to PG rated rather then a M15 rating.Examples are : Guile to Bison ( Unedited ) ILL rip your f % # ^ ing heart out ! Now the edited version goes Ill rip your stinking heart out ! Now there are many of these lame attempts to cover up the swearing and also the Chun Li shower scene is pretty much edited. So Im buying this proper DVD release even though I have the Xbox game , it doesnt do the movie justice and dosnt make it as serious and funny. But the original movie form is fantastic , rocking soundtrack ( this movie introduced me to Alice In Chains who I am now a die hard fan : ) also Silverchair's Israels Son is a rocking song.Only thing missing in this movie would be Akuma and more of how Ryu and Kens master is killed by him but this was poorly covered in the Alpha movie and would have liked to see it here. But as a Street Fighter fan I highly recomend the normal unedited version but buy the Anniversery edition for the games of course because being Street Fighter , they rock .
        • 071 4  This animated version more than made up for that terrible live action version that was put out about a few years before this ! The artwork and animation is incredible ! All the fights are great but Chung Li Vs . Vega is easily the show stealer on this DVD ! Get this DVD but be warned ! It does contain some language and lots of violence ! By the way , for those that have kids that like anime but don't want them to see all that , there is an edited version of this same film available but I think its only on VHS .
        • 077 4  Don't get me wrong : This is , without a shadow of a doubt , one of the best animated motion pictures I have ever seen - - and this is coming from someone who hates SONY ( the publisher of the US release ) . My only problem with the DVD is that , as far as special features , this is less than bare bones : no deleted scenes , no commentaries , no language selection , no chapter selection menu ( you can still skip , though ) , no subtitles , no Street Fighter video game to play on your PC . At least the VHS has captions for those who have the right televisions . Wait , don't stop reading ! That being said , this is still a great purchase if you love action with bits of story . The voice acting ( with the possible exception of Ken Masters ) is excellent . Ted Richards ( Ken ) isn't absolutely nauseating , but he sounds like he's reading a storybook to children in a classroom . Okay , back to the positives . I'm not much of an alternative rock fan , but I can still appreciate the music submitted by Alice in Chains and , uh . . . like I said , I'm not into alternative rock . The instrumentals are okay , but nothing like the video games . As the story goes , M . Bison is hi-tech using monitor cyborgs to search for street fighters he can turn into minions to do his evil biddings . All seventeen fighters from Super Street Fighter 2 TURBO are in this film . However , only Chun-Li , Guile , Ken , Ryu , and Bison have very big parts . Fei Long , Cammy , Vega , Balrog , Sagat , Edmond Honda have much smaller parts , you just briefly see Dhalsim , Thunder Hawk , Blanka , Dee Jay , and Zangief , and you have to look carefully if you want to see Akuma . Note : The M in M Bison stands for Mike , because that is the Japanese name for Balrog the boxer . In Japan , the name Balrog belongs to Vega , the Spanish fighter with the deadly claw . In Japan , M . Bison is called Vega . The name changes were possibly made to avoid lawsuits by former heavyweight championship boxer Mike Tyson . Why they didn't just change Mike Bison's name is beyond me . Perhapse CAPCOM wanted to keep all the original names , and Vega does sort of sound Spanish .
        • 092 4  I saw the dubbed version on VHS many years ago and loved it . When I found out it was being released on DVD I immediately bought it . What a mistake ! Ok , here's what is BAD . 1 ) There is no menu , AT ALL . The movie plays , then ends . No commentary , no extras , NOTHING ! 2 ) It's dubbed ONLY . The voices aren't that bad , but still I prefered the dubbed version WAY more . 3 ) The music was changed . In some scenes I can see , but most of the darn movie was remixed ! ! ! WHY ? ! I thought the Japanase soundtrack was much better . During the first Sagat / Ryu fight scence , Chun-Li / Vega ( ahem , Balrog ) , etc . I guess it's better than nothing , but I definitely am disappointed and honestly can't recommend it unless you really gotta have it .
        • 121 4  Okay , the lowdown : Some of the scenes deserve the Japanese soundtrack ( like the Ken and Ryu vs . Bison / Vega fight ) , on the other hand , silverchair's Israel's Son is fitting for that scene where Ken drives his car on the Golden Gate ( ? ) to see his girl ( . . . you're late for your execution , if you're not here soon , I'll kill your friend instead . . . , probably about what's going to happen later in the movie ) , or when he's driving around with his girl around Washington Lake with Alice In Chains ' song Them Bones in the background ( . . .
