024 4 Growing up , I never got the chance to own a Sega Genesis being an SNES owner myself in the 16 bit era . So naturally I did not get to experience all of the great Sega games that were out there . With this Collection of games , I was able to relive that part of my childhood all over again .
This game contains almost all of the best Sega games that there were on the Genesis as well as some other classics . Featuring such classic games as Sonic 1 - 3 , Sonic & Knuckles , Sonic Spinball , Streets of Rage 1 - 3 , Comix Zone , Vectorman 1 - 2 , Altered Beast as well as many other great games .
This game is fun for everyone and even for the whole family . This is one classic collection of game that delivers and I strongly recommend that you buy it .
006 4 Spot on emulation and save states certainly equals 5 stars in my book ! Aside from eagerly anticipating Volume 2 , I can't think of anything lacking from this collection !
Simply stated , superb . . . the first review captured most of what I want to relay about this , so I won't belabor the situation .
5 stars , my highest recommendation ! !
All 3 Streets of Rage games are here , too ! ! ! A first ! !
114 4 I have played this game alot since i bought it . I generally don't play many games on any play station but i have since i got this game it has alot of games to play . i think this is a great buy to .
137 4 Great game full of old Genesis games I never got tired of . DEFINATELY RECOMMEND . Fun stuff .
033 4 This is the biggest collection of games to come out of the 16 bit era on a collection ( I think anyway ) and it has some amazing titles that are simply too rare to buy the originals on other sites , almost every Sonic game released , all of the Phantasy Star games , Shining Force , Streets of Rage etc , you know the list it's huge and worth a lot more than they sell it for . All games are scaled up to HD and you can apply a smoothing filter that doesn't effect gameplay , if you have a wide screen you can have the image stretched to fit your screen .
I personally bought it for the Streets of Rage / Shining Force games because I already have all of the Sonic games , Phantasy Star IV , Beyond Oasis , Vector Man for my real genesis . But this collection is massive containing a lot of great classics you might not remember .
Though as great as it is , there's a few games missing for no reason . Most notable is Sonic 3 and Knuckles ( when they're locked on ) , it has Sonic 1,2,3 , Sonic and Knuckles , Sonic 3D Blast , Sonic Spinball , but . . not Sonic 3 combined with Sonic & Knuckles , a game that can't be more than 2 megs was left off the disc for what reason ? None . It is Sonic's ultimate Genesis Collection , they have the games separate , but not combined so why not include his best run ? Disc Space isn't a issue when dealing with games that came out nearly 16 years ago .
Anyway you can't find much of a better value , they have a LOT of games on here and most are simply amazing , for very cheap . Some sounds are a little off , but again , it's a great deal and it's a must have in my mind . I probably have half of these games for my genesis and I got it anyway . It just loses a star for not having Sonic 3 or Sonic 2 combined with Sonic and Knuckles , it's Sonics best game in my opinion and it's insane not to put it in . ( Thinking about it now , I'm sure they'll just release it for download on PSN / XBL )
To sum it up , there's a lot of great games on here and a few not so great , but are still worth the nostalgic value . You can't get these games for a better deal , some are worth 80 bucks alone on cartridge form , and they're at least 10 dollars each on virtual console each . So 49 games ( including unlockable games ) times ten is 490 bucks vs Genesis collection for 30 , can't beat this great deal .
002 4 I never had a Genesis , so I missed out on a lot of great games . I've played the first Sonic , and some of these games in the arcade , but overall , I never got to experience the glory days of Sega . Also , it's hard to find PS3 games that appeal to my fiance , and she was excited at the prospect of playing Ecco the Dolphin & the Sonic games again .
There are nearly 50 games on here , and when you consider how much the various games would cost on the Wii virtual console , or Xbox Live arcade , this is an amazing deal . Even at $60 , this would be a great deal , but at $30 , it's a no brainer .
The presentation is pretty slick , the main menu looks like a Genesis unit , and the games are a stack of cartridges you sort through . You can rate games on a 5 star scale , and then sort them in the order you rated them , so your least favorite games will fall to the bottom of the list .
The only complaint I have is that the line all titles have been converted to high def is wrong and misleading . A filter has been applied to make the games look better at a higher resolution , nothing has been reworked or remade to take advantage of HD . The good thing is you can switch between 4 : 3 and 16 : 9 on the fly , and turn the filter off if you want . I will say that the games on this collection have looked a lot better than their Virtual Console counterparts on my TV .
Overall , you can't go wrong with this collection . Whether you're an old Genesis lover wanting a trip down memory lane , or someone who missed out on Sega's golden age and want to see what all the hype was about , this is a must-buy .
008 4 Well allow me to start out by saying that has a child I was an SNES kid and later migrated onto Sony's consoles , I knew a little about Sega but never wanted there stuff enough to bug my parents to buy them for me .
Fast forward 12 years and I'm playing catchup with all things Sega !
This Genesis collection contains a whopping 49 Sega games ( I think 9 of them are unlockable mastersystem games ) What I like about this bundle the most is that a lot of the games are RPG's ( there is about 8 - 10 RPGs in here , that's worth the price alone )
Another good thing about this collection is that you don't have to have 49 carts across 2 systems to play them ! And also some of these games used battery backup to save the games , and we all know a battery will only last so long before it dies and all your precious data is gone , or when the carts wear out from old age !
A really cool feature is you can save anywhere in the games ( it saves in in a ' state ' just like the SNES emulates ) and there is also a smoothing option witch makes a HUGE difference in image quality .
The interface is also pretty cool , it shows an old model 1 genesis as your picking your game to play , another nice touch is that when you save your games it shows the Sega genesis cart with an original art of the game cart-nice touch !
there is also a whole whack of extras to watch and unlock , it will keep you very busy for a long time guaranteed ! ! !
Edit : After playing the game for more than a week I've decided to comment a little more on the games offered , the more influential ones .
The first one that comes to mind would be Phantasy Star 2 the game has won numerous awards on many gaming sites and was one of the first ( if not THE first ) game to have a deeper storyline and was also the first game to kill a main character , it also paved the way for many more RPGs to come after it including FF7 .
Another honorable mention would be Phantasy Star 4 , not only was it the final chapter in the long running series ( 1987 - 1994 ) but it offered a new art direction ( it's an example of very early anime cut-scenes , at a time when anime was still young in North America ) It should be noted that this game originally retailed for $79.99 that was very expensive back in ' 94 and it should be noted that I have seen no game more expensive than this that wasn't a collectors edition ( to put it into perspective the most expensive playstation games were never more than $59.99 )
The Sonic series : This is easily what helped the Genesis keep the lead it had over the SNES for so long ( 1991 till early 1994 ) but when Sega's support was waning due to the soon to be release of the doomed Saturn , the SNES got those last few punches to earn a victory in the 16Bit era with some last minute blockbuster releases , Had Sega not dropped support so early it would have won that console war , and the Sonic series would have been to thank .
That's about all the games I can think of at the moment , you may have bought a Genesis for different reasons but but if you really look at it , the majority of people bought a Genesis for Sonic . I do however have a lot of older friends who originally bought a Genesis for that arcade-y experience with out wasting there entire allowance on quarters ( remember : Arcades were all the rage in the late ' 80s to about 1997 )
027 4 I got a great deal on this game ( paid about $10 ) , and I really can't complain getting close to fifty classic games for that price . I had a Genesis growing up ( in fact , I still do up in the attic somewhere ) and I have a lot of great memories of playing some of the games on this disc .
Although they do feel dated now , and aren't nearly as fun as they used to be , this is to be expected . And I'm sure most of the people buying this game are doing so for largely nostalgic purposes , such as myself .
The one thing that REALLY frustrates me is the game selection on these . I have to imagine on a BluRay disc they could fit about as many 16 - bit games as they wanted to , and yet they don't include every Sega produced game for the system . Everyone has their favorites , and for many people perhaps this disc contains all of them . For me , I am VERY saddened by the loss of Sword of Vermillion ( a great old RPG that WAS on the PS2 Sega collection but was left off of this one ) and the Toe Jam & Earl games .
What makes it even WORSE , is that even though they left off these games which to me are essential Genesis games , they include absolute crap like Flicky , Fatal Labyrinth , and Bonanza Bros . What gives ?
Overall still a great collection for the money , but a big thumbs down for the games they chose to exclude .
063 4 As you can see from the list of games in this collection , there are a ton of them included . 40 games in the main collection proper . If you include the bonus games included as extras , the amount of games included in this collection jumps to 49 . That's 49 games for 1 / 2 the price of most new PS3 / 360 games . You can't beat it .
Well , that is , unless you don't like playing old school 16 bit games .
Every game is perfectly emulated , and one option many will appreciate is the ability to adjust the aspect ratio . You can set the games to be in their original 4 : 3 aspect ratios or take them all the way out to 16 : 9 so they fill your widescreen TV . Since you can dynamically size each game , you can also use any aspect ratio in between .
The emulation is perfect , however the game menu , where you choose the game you wish to play , is not . The interface seems clunky and the music and sounds are obnoxiously LOUD for some reason .
As much as I would have enjoyed seeing Jurassic Park included in the collection , some games just can't be ported due to licensing restrictions ; JP is likely one of these .
The nostalgia this collection bestows is priceless . These games take you back to a time when games could be brutally difficult and made no apologies for it . Want to finish the original Sonic The Hedgehog ? You better know how to collect extra lives ! ( unless of course you know the cheat codes ; which , by the way , if a game had a cheat code on the Genesis , it is included in this collection . So if a game is too difficult for you , don't despair completely , there may be some reprieve available . Search GameFaqs or similar cheat code sites and check it out )
For me , Space Harrier alone , perfectly emulated , is worth more than the price of admission here . Just don't tell Sega that !
If you have a craving for some 16 bit era goodness , check this collection out on your system of choice !
080 4 For the record I grew up with a NES , played computer games during their hayday ( the 90 ' s ) and my second console was an N64 . I missed out playing these games always assuming that there was little fun to be had from the Sega brand - most of my friends growing up played computer games and Nintendo systems .
In short I was wrong .
I'm playing the 2 Shining Force games for the first time ( I'm a huge tactical RPG fan ) and I'm having alot of fun playing them despite the simple gameplay and AI . These 2 titles by themselves are worth the current price of admission . Add in the ability to play the 4 Phantasy Star titles , which I've wanted to play for ages , this is one heck of a deal .
Even if you're not a fan of RPGs there are a host of other great titles here to play . The 2 Vectorman titles are alot of fun if you like side scrolling platformer / shooters ( they play pretty well when being experienced by me for the first time . Ditto for the Sonic titles .
I haven't had a chance to play ever game extensively yet ( that would take a huge time commitment ) but so far I've enjoyed everything I've played ( I've avoided what most people consider the few stinkers on this collection ) .
No collection this big is going to have nothing but gems , and everyone who grew up with the console will be disappointed that every game they loved growing up isn't included , however for the money you can't go wrong if you're capable of enjoying older games . ( Great gameplay isn't something that's new , or dead for that matter . )
Enjoy .
086 4 This is a great value for anyone looking to stroll down memory lane . The genesis was my first console while growing up and I have many a fond memory of the bleeps and bloops of the 16 bit era . This collection is the most comprehensive Sega has ever released , featuring all of the genesis Sonic games , Streets of Rage , Vectorman , Ecco , and plenty of other old favorites . I was even pleasantly surprised by some of the less familiar titles on here . Fatal Labyrinth is actually pretty cool , a good ancestor of the RPG's I play now .
While I wish this collection had Toejam and Earl , Sonic CD , and a few other games that are missing , I still think that for the price , this is an incredible value . It's amazing how well some of these side-scrollers have held up . I swear that Sonic the Hedgehog , despite being almost 20 years old , is more fun , just pure fun , than 99% of games today . With the overflow of repetitive , mediocre , and off-putting first person shooters these days , replaying some of the classics was a real treat .
Even the graphics are still cool . They're simplified sure , but still vibrant and colorful enough to catch your eye . The collection allows you to choose between a framed 4 : 3 ratio or a zoomed in 16 X 9 . I like to take advantage of my HDTV , so I run them in the widescreen and they all look excellent , just how I remembered them , only on a much bigger screen . Very cool . Highly recommended .
120 4 Remind me those days when i was a child , but i didn't play that much
because these days games is so different than before so . . .
couldn't stand it hahaha
155 4 This game is fun for those who liked the old sega games . I'd say it is filled with about 3 / 4 good games , and 1 / 4 junk games . For certain arcade / original master system / classic games you have to unlock them , but its not really that hard to .
If you've never played / heard of these games , I wouldn't suggests buying it , you will be like wtf did I buy these when I could have used an emulator for free . None of the graphics are updated , it is just a direct port with some background videos , and screenshots of the cover / game cartridge .
168 4 I bought this to play with my gf . These games are so bad and the graphics are such low resolution compared to what the PS3 can do that we both put it away never to play again . A complete waste of money .
I suppose if you were once into these games then you might enjoy it .
078 4 I would recommend this game for anyone with a nostalgia craze . It's a great collection , nicely put together . Although , the games are much harder than I remember ! If you're a fan of the old genesis games , this is a great buy . Otherwise , it will probably collect dust like your old Genesis .
123 4 i dont give the five stars because sonic cd is not include on the collection but the rest is pure gold
100 4 I can remember playing some of these games back when I was like eight . I loved those games and still do , but after having to replace some games and multiple sega consoles i decided to kinda give up on sega all together . Honestley do you know how much those shining force games cost ? You're on amazon anyway , go look . . . now that you're back , you see what i mean ? Man I love that game but I ain't rich . I've owned every sonic game at one time or another but now I'll have them all at once . I used to own that sonic mega collection plus game for ps2 , but it was nearly all sonic and no other titles unless you unlock them . There were technically more sonic games on s.m.c.p . but they were all crappy game gear games and they sucked , this has more and absolutely better titles . This includes some of the most dope games i've ever played and their serving them up to me in HD . Some of the titles i had never played before , like the fantasy star games and i can't wait to play them . I should probably focus on only a few games at a time first so I'll probably beat shining force first and work my way to a differant game . This is so worth you droppin the little bit of dough it costs , I mean you get like nearly all of the best games of the late 80 ' s - mid 90 ' s . If you ever loved sega YOU NEED TO BUY THIS GAME ! ! ! You get a package of games for like 30 bucks that could easily cost hundreds ! ALL IN HD ! ! ! Awsone deal , highly recomended . MUCH CLOWN LOVE ! ! !
098 4 For Genesis fans that sold , lost , or for what ever reason miss those old classics this is totaly worth it ! Is it necessary to have 16 bit graphics in HD ? No of course not . Honestly I can't tell the difference but just to have Altered Beast , Space Harrier , and Streets of Rage at my fingertips , Awesome . Plus those long RPG's that only had those pain in the ass infrequent save points , no problem . Hit select on the controller and the PS3 will save any time any where ! After you unlock everything you realize the instruction manual could have been a bit more comprehensive but most of the games explain themselves . Besides those you don't remember you can always look up the directions on the web anyway . I love this collection , not as comprehensive as the Volumes 1& 2 that came out for PS2 ( e.g . only one shinobi game and one to unlock where the PS2 version gave you all three right off the bat ) but still well worth the money .
102 4 THIS IS A MUST BUY FOR EVERYONE WHO STARTED PLAYING VIDEOGAMES IN SEGA GENESIS , VERY NOSTALGIC .
095 4 DO YOU LOVE THE CLASSIC VIDEO GAMES , YOU NEED BUY THIS GAME , VERY GOOD ! !
108 4 I had the PS2 Sega Genesis collection which was a pretty good collection of 28 games . Though a few of my favorites were missing . This new collection for the PS3 clears all that up as well as presenting the games in hi-def to make them look better than ever . If you had the original collection , this game gives you the additional titles of Alien Storm , Beyond Oasis , Dr . Robotnik's MBM , Dynamite Headdy , E-Swat , Fatal Labyrinth , Shining in the Darkness , Shining Force , Shining Force 2 , Sonic 3D Blast , Sonic and Knuckles , Sonic 3 , Sonic Spinball , Streets of Rage 1,2,3 . It also has unlockable arcade games like Congo Bongo , Altered Beast , Zaxxon and more . What seems to be missing from this set that was on the PS2 version is Ecco Jr . and Sword of Vermillion . So unless you love those two games , it is time to trade that copy in and get this great new collection .
068 4 I like this collection , but there were some real gems missing in my opinion . I bought it knowing that the . Mortal Kombat series and Primal weren't included but that didn't change how much they shouldve been in here . The included games are great though . However there are only a total of three save slots for all forty games , which just doesn't make any sense .
111 4 This is a cool kids game . Has a few of the old skool games like Altered beast , sonic of course , kid cameloean , etc . . . me and my wife play all the time .
117 4 Bought this game for my brother for his birthday bc of the old games on it . We played them growing up . He loves the game .
127 4 Before all these needless Sonic games and Golden A * * I mean Axe beast rider there was the great Sonic , Shinobi and Golden Axe games if you were born in the late 90 ' s and you missed out you should get this if have a PS3 or a 360 this is great if you like the retro games like I do or just never got to experience the 16 bit era this is a nice collection . Now I wish they would have put original Golden Axe arcade on here and Golden Axe 2 revenge of Death Adder . I mean Sonic 3D Blast come on but it has a good collection but I wish they would have put Golden Axe arcade on here and Golden Axe revenge of Death Adder maybe in another collection . But there are some fun games in this collection though . Acully give a good challenge too not like today .
039 4 I'm a sucker for old school games and I enjoy playing them more than I do the newer ones . So when I found this game , I was juiced ! I played Sonic and Mean Bean Machine for hours when i was kid , and this game is great for the late nights or game nights when all the friends are over ! I'd recommend this game for anyone who thought Sega Genesis was the best console ever in the 90s !
041 4 I have been playing this with my sons on my PS3 quite a bit lately . I am 28 years old and grew up playing these games - it is fun to play them with my 8 year old - in some ways - he likes these games more than new ones b / c they are simpler . Sonic & Streets of Rage are my favorite . . . . . . Streets of Rage 2 in particular .
Enjoy . I hope that more old school games like this come out on the Ps3 .
046 4 I love this game set . I use to play these games all the time on Sega .
048 4 If you are looking for the most bang for your buck , and a little nostalgia , then definitely pick this one up . I had all the Genesis collections for the Gamecube , but this one takes the cake .
050 4 I originally purchased this game based on seeing several classics I used to love playing . Once I sat down to play , I started seeing all these other games that I had forgotten about . Overall its just a nice trip down memory lane , to a time when substance of a game made it good , not graphics .
055 4 This game reminds you how sega was neck to neck with nintendo in the 90 ' s console race . Most of these classic games I can play again and again . What happened Sega ? ?
125 4 This is one of those game you have to have if you like any thing on the sega . To play thoes games all over aging feel real good if you were the type of person who grown up in the 80 ' s you what I am talking about .
161 4 I like sonic but I think they could have implimented the game better to fit the ps3
133 4 There are hundreds of hours of games to play here . Phantasy Star 1 , 2 , and 4 are some of the best old school RPG's out there , and you can play them upscaled and looking decent on your HDTV now . Granted , they put everything in a frame on the screen , so as not to mess with the original aspect ratio , but these games look and sound like you remember them .
The trophies make the whole package more fun to work through . They didn't make the trophies overly hard to get , so you can taste the other games on here without having to play games that you don't like to the end . Plus when you get trophies , you unlock developer interviews or art or something extra a lot of the time .
If you have any interest in the best of what Genesis / SMS had to offer , you should pick this up and try it out . Go for the trophies , you'll end up finding some games you wouldn't normally try , but that are really great .
135 4 i dont know what to say about this game , i'm big fan for sonic serious , i love sonic games and i'm always searching for cool sonic titles , last sonic games is too bory , i wished to play classic sonic games , thin i found this very cool game , i bout it to remember my past when i was 9 years , after 17 years , i found this game and took me back to my 9 years , this game is too easy too funny , too cheap , 27 dollar is very cool price to get platinuim trophy in this funny game , if you did not interested any title in the game stores , if you want to remember your self when you was a chiled and go back in your memories , if you want 1000 / 1000 achievements or platinuim trophy , this game must be your choice .
sorry for my little bad english cuz i'm not good in this language
075 4 Exelente gaming quality !
Classic games from the old consoles and retro games :
one big thumbs up for Sonics ultimate colection .
083 4 This sure reminds me of my childhood .
So many awesome games , all in one . Well worth it , especially with your friends around !
092 4 The best games from when you were young , how can you pass up this game .
104 4 Gotta love the classics . They bring back memories of my worry free years as a kid .
142 4 It's an ultimate collection but for me the fun of the games is just so so . i sold it after several days .
Some cons :
Each game should have some screen snapshots for you to have a preview , or at least the video should be fastened so that users can know what type of game it is if not familiar .
i have played some of these games in my childhood . Although i do missing those fun times , when i actually played them again , they are not fun any more it seems .
Anyway , there are still two or three games worth playing again .
157 4 the idea is amazing but the execution is poor . They could easily droped all the bad game and put instead the amazing games wich Genesis is really famous of .
165 4 This is a nice product if you want to play some old school games that you miss . My biggest problem with it is that they don't have certain games that they had in the sonic mega collection for the PS 2 . Then again they have certain games that the ps2 one didn't have , but I love sonic and they didnt have all his games . The biggest baddest sonic 3 and knuckles attachment is missing in this game , that was enough for me to give it a negative review . on the plus side playing these games with smooth graphics at 720p gives it new life . Also its not all the great genesis games its just the ones that sega made .
029 4 This collection really took me back to my childhood when I played the few games that we actually owned . I mainly bought it for its collection of Sonic games . My 2 young daughters are head over heels with Sonic , so it's been a blast showing them just how old Sonic is and how he looked back when I was a kid .
044 4 My first game system was the Sega Genesis , so I was really excited to get this and try out all the Genesis games again after so long . It was crazy to realize how much more challenging the old games were , but its so much fun !
057 4 This is the best value for your money . My husband and I are not big gamers , so this is a little bit easier for us , especially me . It has so many games you don't get tired of playing . Well worth it .
145 4 My husband had a lot of fun playing this game . It has a lot of old games from the early 80 and 90 . It is a great price for what you get .
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
Sega has done something marvelous here . Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is one of the finest game compilations ever released . I thought
Sonic Mega Collection
was good , but this really blows it out of the console . With forty games , upgraded to 720p high-definition , you will not tire of this collection soon . And that's just for starters . Along the way , the player earns trophies , artwork , interviews with the game creators , and - - - - more games ! Also , this collection allows players to use a save game / load game on all of its titles , allowing one to save their progress - - - - even in older games where this was not formerly possible. This is how game companies should treat their precious classics .
Ah , what more can here be said ? Not much , other than to say that if you like video games at all , and if you are in fact reading this review now , you are almost guaranteed to enjoy Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection . Below are a few of my favorites from this compilation .
Sonic the Hedgehog : The birth of Sega's mascot . In this speedy , side-scrolling platformer , the supersonic hedgehog travels from Green Hill Zone to Scrap Brain Zone , defeating the evil Dr . Robotnik's robotic minions and freeing the animals of planet Mobius . Excellent scenery , great level designs , and catchy music converge into one of gaming history's great classics !
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 : Here , Sonic is joined by a new star , Miles ' Tails ' Prower , a flying , two-tailed fox ! Together , they fight Robotnik . This game allows for amusing two-player action , and continues the Sonic tradition of great levels , high speed , and excellent music .
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 : Sonic and Tails are back , out to beat Dr . Robotnik again . But they must also confront Knuckles the Echidna , an animal that has been tricked into joining Robotnik . As with Sonic 2 , two-player mode is supported , with Tails having the capability of lifting Sonic to hard-to-reach locations . Again , enjoyable levels and superb music ( especially in the Circus Zones )
Sonic and Knuckles : In one of the finest Sonic titles , the story continues where Sonic 3 left off . Here the player controls Sonic or Knuckles ( who has realized that Dr . Robotnik is no good , though it takes him some more time to figure out that Sonic is on his side ) . With the finest graphics of any Sega Genesis Sonic game ( in my opinion , anyway ) , continually enjoyable levels , myriad enemies , multiple power-ups , and magnificient music , this is certainly a game one should not miss .
Sonic Spinball : A pinball video game , using Sonic the Hedgehog as the ball ! Combining elements of platforming and pinball games , this is a great spin-off Sonic game . Though it is extremely challenging , it is also immensely entertaining , and the music is hard to beat .
Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine : Save a race of jolly , musical jellybeans from Dr . Robotnik's evil plans to encase them in his wicked robots . This somewhat Tetris-like puzzle game is actually quite unique . Players must match at least four jellybeans of the same color either horizontally or vertically . In this fashion , they send over unmatchable gray beans into their opponent's side ( who may either be a computer character from the Sonic universe in story mode , or a human player in two-player mode ) . Create multiple combos to fill your opponent's screen to the top - - - - before they do the same to you !
Ecco the Dolphin : A stunningly beautiful , achingly difficult , and utterly unique side-scrolling adventure . The player controls a dolphin named Ecco , who has set out to find his family after they mysteriously disappear . After encountering schools of sharks , venomous jellyfish , cruel crustaceans , and ancient beings , traveling the world and journeying through time , Ecco finds that the answer to his family's disappearance lies in a chilling fact - - - - an alien force from outer space has come to conquer the world . Ecco must do all in his power to defeat the aliens , and save the world from destruction ! Did I mention the enthralling , surreal music ?
Ecco : The Tides of Time : Just when Ecco thought the world was safe , he was proven wrong . The aliens have returned , and are wreaking havoc again . Ecco must venture out into the wide world again , this time finding powers that allow him to change shape . Now , he can take the form of a bird , shark , or even alien ! As in its predecessor , the beautiful scenery and mind-melting difficulty is here , along with a compelling soundtrack ( though , to be honest , the music here is somewhat inferior to that of the first )
Flicky : A great game that converges elements of Nintendo's Donkey Kong and Mario Bros . , and Namco's Mappy . Play a mother bird as she gathers her chicks from several floors of a building . Watch out for the cats and lizards !
Dynamite Headdy : Play as Headdy , a small puppet that throws his head at enemies to destroy them . Headdy has set out to save his puppet world from the oppressive reign of Dark Demon , a mysterious enemy that has recently come to power . Bright levels , unique style , good music , and fun gameplay make this side-scrolling platformer a must-play classic !
Vectorman : Play as a waste-cleaning robot that stands with humanity , though his mechanical counterparts rebel against mankind . Destroy the rebellious machines in this amusing side-scrolling platformer . Be warned , however ; the flashes produced by power-ups are rather bright , and can grow irritating over time .
Vectorman 2 : Rather like the above title , except for different levels and additional sound effects .
Ristar : Play as Ristar , a human-like shooting star that is out to save the galaxy . In this somewhat Sonic-like game , the player travels through bright , detailed levels , destroying robotic enemies and discovering secrets .
There is a multitude of other games in this collection . However , being that the majority of these are either very old RPGs or violent street fighting games ( which are just not my thing ) , I do not wish to take up time describing them . Below is a list all the games ( excluding unlockables ) included in this collection .

All in all , a fantastic compilation . Give this a try ; I am sure you will not be disappointed !
P.S . - - - - Nintendo , you are watching , right ? How about a 480p , Super Mario Advance-style sound enhanced , sprawling collection of classic Nintendo titles . You know , like a compendium of NES-SNES games , from Donkey Kong to Super Mario World 2 : Yoshi's Island . Call it , ' Mario's Game Library ' , or ' Nintendo Archives ' , or ' Mario Bros . Nintendo Classics ' . Yes , I know they have Virtual Console , but the enhancements brought to the Game Boy Advance versions of the classic Mario games would be much appreciated on the Wii . And it would be a lot more cost-effective !

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
+ Pros :
+ 40 Genesis games and 9 extra games for less than a dollar apiece
+ Setup options including widescreen , graphic smoothing , and button configurations
+ 3 Save slots per game
- Cons :
- No Lock-on option to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2 or 3
Ahh yes , the 1980 ' s and 1990 ' s . Two great periods of video games for the Sega franchise .
First , the arcade stand-ups - their machines called out to be filled with quarters offering level after level of difficult challenges to overcome . When the 1980 ' s were drawing to a close and people were ready to move beyond the limits of 8 - bit Nintendo games , Sega introduced their 4th generation home video game console , the Sega Genesis . This 16 - bit system offered better graphics , longer Role-Playing Games , and one speedy hedgehog that tested the patience of even the most seasoned gamer .
This compilation combines 40 games from Sega's Genesis library , 7 of their stand-up arcade ports and 2 games from the Sega Master System , all on one disc .

Some of these games are initially locked , but they can be unlocked without much difficulty .
Graphics : First off , let's be honest - since these are 3rd and 4th generation video games , graphically they are not cutting edge . If your earliest gaming console was a Sony Playstation , these games will look pre-historic to you . Most of the games have a faux background and the gameplay is centered in the middle of the screen in a 4 : 3 default format . The aspect ratio can be changed to letterbox ( 16 : 9 ) and there is even an option to smooth the graphics - but with games like these , smoothing actually takes away from the nostalgia .
Options : I love the options this compilation offers ! Not only can you set your own button layouts and turn on / off the rapid fire option , but you can save your progress on every single game ! Games like Sonic the Hedgehog were very unforgiving and had no save points when they were first released . . . but with 3 save slots at your disposal , you can take your time to complete the games at your own pace .
Gameplay : With 49 games to choose from , there are several genres at your fingertips :
Want a platformer ? Try Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle .
Fancy a beat ` em up ? Altered Beast is calling you .
Itching for an epic RPG ? Try Phantasy Star III .
How about a puzzle game ? Stack up the Columns .
Maybe an action game ? Suit up with ESWAT .
Side Scroller fan ? Ecco the Dolphin needs your help .
Hack & Slash , eh ? Grab some grog and try out Golden Axe .
Perhaps you prefer a shooter ? Space Harrier is all about the bullets !
You'd like a good old fashioned Run ` n ' Gun ? Look no further than Vectorman 2 .
Whatever type of gameplay you like , it can be found in this collection .
Extras : There are interviews with several Sega employees made specifically for this collection . You can tell each person put their heart & soul into their game of choice . . . it was a different time . Nowadays , people like Hideo Kojima have 200 people at their disposal , whereas most of these games were made by very small teams . There is a brief history and graphic artwork for each game , a nice piece of nostalgia .
Trophies : The trophies for this game are a mixed bag . Some trophies are laughably easy ( such as Ecco the Dolphin - this trophy is earned by simply talking to another dolphin ! ) , while others like Dr . Robitnik's M.B.M . trophy ( beat the game ) are tooth-grindingly difficult . I thought the trophy for Final Oasis was a good example - the goal to free the water spirit took some time , but didn't require completing the entire game . I loved the trophy requiring every game to be played at least once .
As far as negatives , there is only one that comes to mind , the exclusion of the lock-on gameplay for Sonic 3 , Sonic 2 , and the Blue Sphere levels . This allowed gamers to play as Knuckles instead of Sonic , which could not be done at the time due to software / hardware limitations . Since the Playstation 3 is a 7th generation video game console , I was surprised these were excluded . I hope they will show up as a download from the Playstation Network before too long .
Conclusion ?
If you want to take a trip down video game memory lane for a great price , this is the best collection to do it with - it breaks down to less than a dollar per game . For your portable needs , I strongly recommend the

013 4 When it came down to video games back in the early to mid 90 ' s , video games have started to become much more aminstream with its core audiences . Nintendo really had dominated at the beginning with the continued success of the NES and the start of what became the Super Nintendo . As for Sega , they had much more out there that seemed to dominate at the beginning with the success of the Sega Genesis , and the portable Game Gear system . But at the midway point of the decade , their systems were losing appeal from overexposure , which cause them to lose sales for the Genesis , Saturn and Dreamcast systems , and gamers were going to Sony and staying at Nintendo for their gaming needs . Now , Sega's glory days are returning to the Playstation 3 .
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is really something that delivers well for nostaligic fans of the classic Sega Genesis era of the 90 ' s . The game compilation contains over 40 classic Sega games that have been the constants of the Sega Genesis library , and what made Sega so dominant to hard cpore fans today . The game have all been remastered beautifully from top to bottom , and redesigned to give it a new introduction in High Defiinition . The compilation includes a lot of classic games including the original Sonic The Hedgehog , and its sequels 2 , 3 and Sonic & Knuckles , as well as other great Sega titles like Columns , the addictive puzzler that was Sega's answer to the addictive Tetris , the epic Golden Axe , the innovative Vectorman , and many other greats . The control is just as simple to pick up as it was made years earlier , and the gameplay is just as exciting as has been years ealier . Sadly though , I do feel a bit upset though that there could've upset that there could've been some overlooked greats here like the innovative 3 - D Virtua Racing here , as well as Earthworm Jim to just name a few .
All in all for what it is worth Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the Playstation 3 works very well for Sega as a strong and innovative reintroduction to what Sega had made special for video game fanatics young and old back in the 90 ' s . While it is sad that Sega will never be able to duplicate those days with making new systems , they still are showing they still have the stuff with what their classics are absolutely made of . If you have never owned a Genesis system , or are just looking for something completely different , than I absolutely recommend this as a must buy for PS3 owners .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
As SEGA told me while growing up , Genesis Does what Nintendon't . That much was true for some of their older games , and this collection has most of the games that helped mold that campaign .
The graphic smoothing option is really nice , and anyone familiar with emulators ( not that I am ) will remember the Super-Eagle modes in emulation . It basically takes the pixels and smooths them out , making it look like a flash game rather than a 16 - bit pixel game . A good example is that of Double Dragon for Live Arcade . This feature is eye candy for some , but others may want to just leave this option off . I prefer it in some games , and some I'd rather have the graphics a little pixelated because the feature smooths things to a point were it just looks to different . No sound enhancements , thank goodness !
The games all have individual options . For instance , if you like the graphic smoothing for Golden Axe but would prefer to have Sonic in his true graphic format , you don't have to swap manually between the two . Another nice thing is each game has a save file , not a built-in save slot . So if I'm late for work and I'm on the end boss of Streets of Rage , I can save , quit , and load later .
While there's several really terrific games , including most of the Sonic games , the one thing that should have been added is the Toe Jam & Earl series , as well as a few others . SEGA has some of 16 - bits finest games , and there were certainly a lot more than 49 exclusives . Also , given the fact that the PS3 supports Blu-Ray and even the Xbox 360 has a disc capacity of 8GB or more , I'd have loved to see some 32x games or even some of SEGA CD's really good games ( Night Trap , anyone ? ) . Anyway you shake it though , this is a terrific collection , and thank goodness for Trophies ! The Trophies in the game are pretty easy to get and there's only one per game , but those are just added bonuses to a killer collection . I just hope they have some DLC soon .
My only big complaint is the lack of online play . Sure , lacking this feature keeps the games true to tradition , but c'mon ! It's the 21st century !
This is the SEGA collection to get , although I'd have loved to see a Collection , Vol . 1 so I could expect to see another one in this same category . There's a few things missing from this library to call it perfect , but overall , 49 games for $30 is a killer deal . Add that to your trophy collection . Now , where's the Beat-em-Up Arcade Collection featuring The Simpsons Arcade , X-Men , and the many , many other great co-op beat-em-ups of the 90s ?

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
There are 40 SEGA Genesis titles as well as nine SEGA Master System and arcade games in this collection , That would cost you $365.00 to download on the Wii . This is a sweet deal you can't pass on , if you grew up in a SEGA-lovin ' house like I did , many of these games are going to bring back warm and fuzzy memories . $30 That's a steal , and I can't recommend picking this one up enough .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
I won't let nostalgia blind me , and end up being one of those ' I played these when I was little , so they're good games ' people . But the funny thing is , playing the first few Sonic games , I felt like a kid again . It's been years since I really played through each one , the last time being on the Sonic collection for the Xbox , though I didn't spend much time with it . Getting to explore all the areas , trying to get the emeralds , it felt great to play good Sonic games again , and it makes you wonder why the developers screwed him up so bad after the first Dreamcast game . But here , you're getting much more than Sonic . And you know what the best thing might be ? It's something overlooked by many - the ability to save at any time . This is basically a giant emulator package , and now you can save anytime you want when playing any game here . If only we were so lucky to have that feature with Ecco the Dolphin back in the early 90s . . .
You can see the list of games here on the product page , so I won't go into detail about them - you either know the games or you don't . And truth be told , a lot of them don't deserve to be in this collection . A few are so generic that I had a hard time believing that Sega couldn't have picked any other game to fill in the blanks . Those ones are Fatal Labyrinth , Beyond Oasis , E-SWAT , Gain Ground , Super Thunder Blade , Alien Storm , Kid Chameleon , Flicky , Ristar and Alex Kidd . Some of you might be wondering why I included Ristar , because it has a cult folllowing , but the game doesn't hold up very well in this day and age , and I had a hard time playing for even 3 levels before the sound effects gave me a headache . Most of the other games here though , still hold up well , even if a lot of them are simple . The Streets of Rage and Golden Axe series were classic brawlers in their time , and while there's barely any skill involved now , it's good for a run down memory lane to see just how far action games have come since then . I was really surprised to see Decap Attack on this collection - it was one of my favorite games for the Genesis , and held up reasonably well when I played it on here . Who knew that a game about a decapitated mummy could've been made back in the days when Mortal Kombat drew more attention than the Grand Theft Auto sequels have in recent history ? I had fun playing through most of the better titles on here , but I probably won't be going through them again unless someone comes over and we want to just mess around in one of them . The Sonic games are always good for a quick go , and beating either Ecco the Dolphin title is a challenge only those with high levels of patience should attempt .
The game's load times are quick , and the longest loading times are those when you quit a game and when the title screen starts up . Otherwise , once you select a game , you get right into it . Saving is quick as well , and you can even set the controller to whatever works for you , though most of these games used three buttons when they came out , and I can't see any point in changing preferences for the ps3 . The games are all presented in HD , but come on , there's not much point in doing that given how old they are . Still , things look as good as they possibly can , and they sound great too .
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection also has some neat bonuses to unlock as you progress through each game . There are a few extra games to unlock ( the first Phantasy Star being the main one people tend to go for ) , video interviews with some of the game creators , and artwork . To me , the greatest bonus was hearing one of the developers talk about how much gamers are going to love the new Sonic game ( at the time , Sonic the Hedgehog for ps3 and 360 ) because of the story and new characters . This made me laugh because those are the two things that everyone hates about the new Sonic games , and here he is , with a straight face , talking about how great they are . That's always good for a quick laugh . The other interviews are worth a watch , and you learn a lot from them about what they wanted to create , and what they hoped people playing their games would get out of them . Finally , there are lots of super easy trophies to get in the game . Actually , you could probably get most of them in one sitting since the majority only require you to complete 2 or 3 levels in a game . Others require other things , like getting a Chaos Emerald in Sonic 1 , getting 100 rings as Tails in Sonic 3 , or just eating 200 fish in Ecco 2 . The only two that will give people problems are those in Dr . Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Columns .
I'm glad I got this collection , but I can't stress enough how I doubt I'll play most of the games here ever again . Some of them , like Fatal Labyrinth and Beyond Oasis make me wonder why they were even included , and how anyone could think these games were good when they first came out . But this is a good history lesson for people who missed the Genesis , though there are a lot of great non-Sega games you should check out too that couldn't be featured here . For the current price , you could do a lot worse than this . . . like the DS Sonic collection that has all of 4 games and costs a few bucks more .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
Genesis Does ! ! 16 Bit Arcade Graphics . . . You can't do this on Nintendo ! !
Well , as a matter of fact , you can reproduce some of what this collection offers on both 360 and Wii , but you're going to pay north of 100 dollars ( Probably over 200 or 300 dollars actually ) . On Sonic's Ultimate Genesis collection you receive spot on emulations of 40 plus games from the Genesis era . Being a person who grew playing a number of these games , I can say this purchase is easily worth the 30 bucks they charge .
Altered Beast , Shinobi , Streets of Rage 1 , 2 , and 3 , Phantasy Star 1 , 2 , 3 , and 4 , Sonic 1 , 2 , 3 , Golden Axe 1 , 2 , and 3 , ESWAT , Ristar , Vectorman 1 and 2 , DeCap Attack , plus more . As other reviews mention , you unlock a few of these games by meeting certain scores or by completing certain criteria in other available games . This helps introduce you to some games you may not have given a second thought to initially ( aka . . Flicky ) . The games automatically save , so this is great for keeping high scores and for keeping your progress in other games up to date . * * ALSO * * A big bonus imo is that you can adjust the video output for each game in the options to either 16 : 9 widescreen or 4 : 3 regular screen , and additionally adjust the smoothing so you don't have to see all the jagged edges , unless you choose to . I hate borders around my games , so this feature was quite appreciated .
Overall , Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is easily worth the purchase price . 40 plus games , of which nearly all of them provide some , if not quite a lot of enjoyment . It's a great collection to just kick back and enjoy playing while you remember the good ole ' days of the 16 bit wars or if you aren't familiar with these games , it gives you an opportunity to play some games that were far more about gameplay , memorization , and fun , than today's wow-factor graphics based powerhouses . As I said before I grew up playing the NES , then the Genesis , and this collection introduced me to a few games I had never played before that are quite fun ( aka . . Alienstorm , DeCap Attack ) so I think there's something in this collection for everyone ( Casual to hardcore , new-school to old-school gamers ) . Ultimately , there's really no reason you shouldn't get this game . 30 bucks for 40 plus games is just too good of a deal to pass up . You'll easily get your money's worth and hours of fun .
031 4 Genesis Does !
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
Since buying Midways Museum Arcade game collection for my PS2 there hasn't really been another great collection series to come out for us who lived the years of the mid 80 ' s through the 90 ' s and remember playing these games fondly , now Sega has released this incredible collection and as expected it's fantastic both and the quantity and the enjoyment of playing these games again . For the kids of this generation they probably won't find to much enjoyment with these kind of games as the last ten years has seen an incredible development and the video and effects in games for them to play , but for us who played these games either in the arcade rooms of long ago or on the Sega genesis or Saturn the return of these games has been a true joy for me . As you play you'll probably like myself feel the nostalgia while playing these games and remember when you first played them years ago and that feeling is something that shouldn't be ignored . Playing Sonic again or even playing the lost and confused Dolphin were a true joy again as well as the other games like Golden Axe to Streets of Rage . The vastness of the games on this disk is simply amazing more than forty games and for this price a great deal worth getting .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
Premise
* A collection of over 40 16 - bit games from the Sega Genesis console .
The Good Things
* Each game plays good with no notable flaws .
* Includes several bonus games and several interviews that can be unlocked .
* The interface is good . The menu looks slick and allows you to rate the games and filter the list .
* You have the ability to save and load game states at any time . If you fail a game , you could always reload it at a good spot .
* Each game varies , but in general , they are all fun and easy to play . The biggest highlights in this collection would be the five or six Sonic the Hedgehog games ( including 1 , 2 , and 3 ) , the three Golden Axe games , three Streets of Rage games , a bunch of other beat-em-up arcade games , a bunch of RPGs , and a bunch of platformer games .
* Some games offer options , such as the number of lives you get .
* Cheat codes on the genesis console still work .
* Has trophies , and it is possible to acquire them all fairly easily .
The Bad Things
* This collection is extensive , but certainly not all-inclusive . Die-hard genesis gamers may be dissapointed with the exclusion of certain games .
The Questionable Things
* Modern gamers may not care much for the 16 - bit graphics or the low-quality sound effects . However , other folks won't mind and may find this very nostalgic . I was personally impressed by the graphic / sound quality of some games ( like Comix Zone ) .
I never was a huge Sega Genesis fan , but I always enjoyed the Sonic games . This collection satisfied me very much , not only because of its inclusion of so many Sonic games , but also because it has a bunch of other great titles . Even ones I didn't care for were worthwhile checking out . Whether you want a quick casual game or a longer in-depth story , there's a game for most of your needs . Trophy support and the saving of high scores makes the games replayable too . Overall , it is a worthwhile collection for anybody looking for classic games .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
This game reminds you how sega was neck to neck with nintendo in the 90 ' s console race . Most of these classic games I can play again and again . What happened Sega ? ?
061 4 I purchased this collection for the Sonic series of games and Altered Beast , and I must say , this package is well worth the price just for those games alone . Running down the list of games once I got into playing it , I forgot how much fun other games like Shinobi and Golden Axe were . The games work flawlessly thus far , graphics are sharp , an updated versions of the originals . The game speed is like I remember . This definitely gave me the fix of nostalgia games that I hope my kids will enjoy as much as I did ( a reasonably family friendly collection ) . Sega hit it right releasing these games again . More fun for me than the other PS3 Sonic games released .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
With the release of next-generation consoles PlayStation 3 , XBox 360 and Nintendo Wii , it's great to know that with the passing of the gaming baton , the gaming greats are never forgotten .
With the help of Sega and its mascot , Sonic the Hedgehog , they rereleased some of their biggest moneymakers in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection , the Sega Genesis's 40 most popular and best-selling titles ( to include games starring Sonic himself ) .
Though the games probably didn't perform well , it's also great that they brought back Streets of Rage 3 and Golden Axe 3 .
The only gripe that I have ( like I had with the Sega Genesis Collection on PS2 ) is that they didn't put some of their other games on this release because of some copyright issues or some other unknown reason :
- Ghostbusters ( Sega Genesis version )
- After Burner ( arcade version )
- After Burner II ( arcade / Sega Genesis version )
- Space Harrier II ( arcade / Sega Genesis version )
- Out Run ( arcade version )
- Michael Jackson's Moonwalker ( arcade version )
- * Power Drift ( arcade version-released only in Japan )
- * Wrestle War ( arcade version-released only in Japan )
- The Revenge of Shinobi ( arcade / Sega Genesis version )
- Shadow Dancer : The Secret of Shinobi
- Spider-Man ( arcade / Sega Genesis version )
- Gunstar Heroes ( Sega Genesis version )
- Dynamite Duke
- Rambo III ( arcade / Sega Genesis version )
- Hang-On ( arcade version )
- Super Hang-On ( arcade / Sega Genesis version )
- Sword of Vermilion
- Thunder Force II
- Thunder Force III
- Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse
- QuackShot starring Donald Duck
- World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
Other than that , for nostalgic purposes , I personally recommend this game for any gamer's library . Like the Beatles said , yesterday was such an easy game to play .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
Back when the Genesis was the new big thing , Sonic revolutionized himself to be just as good as Mario . Sega's well thought-out plan succeeded , appealing to the crowd of hardcore gamers and casual gamers alike . Today , Sonic is more of a rip-off and most ( including me ) would stick to Nintendo's great creations like Zelda , Metroid , and Mario . I own Sonic and Knuckles Collection , Sonic Gems Collection , Sonic Mega Collection and Sonic Mega Collection Plus , along with all of the Sonic games from Sega CD , Master System , Game Gear , Saturn , and Genesis . I used to be a REALLY hardcore Sonic fan . After buying all of those collections , this game looked like a bit of a joke to me . It looked like it was trying to pass itself off as yet ANOTHER Sonic collection , just so Sega could pull in some more good money , like they hadn't ripped us off with the so-called next-generation Sonic games already . ' I won't fall for it ' , I told myself sternly . But , after checking out just how many games and unlockables there were in this game , I couldn't pass it off as a joke any longer . This game even has the whole Golden Axe AND Streets of Rage collections , the games that made everybody go head-over-heels for beat ' em ups . There's even a dolphin game I never heard of ! After seeing this , you shouldn't skip this one-just when you see how many games there are on here that were recreated in High-Definition , you'll think how can all of those games possibly fit on there ? ? ? If you have a PS3 , you'd be weird not to see how awesome this game really is !

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
There's been Sega collections before across various platforms , but none as vast as Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection . Featured here are 40 great Genesis games , as well as nine bonus unlockable games from arcades and Sega's Master system . Sure we get those tried and true classic games seen before on other Sega compilations , such as the Sonic series , the Golden Axe trilogy , the Shinobi , Ecco , and Vectorman games , Altered Beast , Columns , Kid Chameleon , and other old favorites besides ; but there are a few new additions here that will definitely hold your interest . Playing the Streets of Rage trilogy , E-Swat , Fatal Labyrinth , the Shining Force games , Alien Storm , Dynamite Headdy , and the always underrated action / RPG Beyond Oasis are all here , and are all still incredibly fun to play . And yes , even though Comix Zone and Phantasy Star II , III , and IV are here again , they're still some of the absolute best examples of what the Genesis had to offer . Even though there are still some omissions that I would love to see on a Genesis compilation like Eternal Champions , Outrun , the Toe Jam & Earl games , or the amazing Gunstar Heroes ( though I'm not sure if Sega or Treasure own the rights there ) , this collection is still spectacular regardless . Bonus unlockable games include the arcade versions of Altered Beast and Shinobi , the arcade smashes Zaxxon and Space Harrier ( still no After Burner ) as well as the original Phantasy Star from the Master system among others ; and there's a wonderful amount of extra material and a lovely presentation as well . All of the games are brilliantly emulated , and play and look as good as they did way back when . All in all , you can't go wrong with Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection if you grew up owning a Genesis or owned one back in the day , and at this bargain price , this collection is even more of a steal .

089 4 I used to play most these games in the 90s , thanks to SEGA Channel , one of the greatest inventions ever . Now , with this bundle , I can have just as much fun , and relive the old days . Sonic is by far my favorite game ever , and having all of them , alone , make this bundle worth it to me . Then you add the Streets of Rage series , Phantasy Star , Comix Zone , and many many more , this bundle is well worth the price .
This game will definitely appeals to kids young and old , and a great piece to your collection of Playstation3 games .
I cannot recommend this game any more .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
I can remember playing some of these games back when I was like eight . ! !

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Alien Storm
Altered Beast
Beyond Oasis
Bonanza Bros .
Columns
Comix Zone
Decap Attack starring Chuck D . Head
Dr . Robotnik's MBM
Dynamite Headdy
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco II : The Tides of Time
E-SWAT
Fatal Labyrinth
Flicky
Gain Ground
Golden Axe I
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Kid Chameleon
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III : Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV : The End of the Millennium
Ristar
Shining in the Darkness
Shining Force
Shining Force 2
Shinobi III : Return of the Ninja Master
Sonic 3D Blast
Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic Spinball
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage 2
Streets of Rage 3
Super Thunder Blade
Vectorman
Vectorman 2

106 4 Sega has done something marvelous here .
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Alien Storm
Altered Beast
Beyond Oasis
Bonanza Bros .
Columns
Comix Zone
Decap Attack starring Chuck D . Head
Dr . Robotnik's MBM
Dynamite Headdy
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco II : The Tides of Time
E-SWAT
Fatal Labyrinth
Flicky
Gain Ground
Golden Axe I
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Kid Chameleon
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III : Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV : The End of the Millennium
Ristar
Shining in the Darkness
Shining Force
Shining Force 2
Shinobi III : Return of the Ninja Master
Sonic 3D Blast
Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic Spinball
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage 2
Streets of Rage 3
Super Thunder Blade
Vectorman
Vectorman 2

This is one of those game you have to have if you like any thing on the sega . To play thoes games all over aging feel real good if you were the type of person who grown up in the 80 ' s you what I am talking about .
129 4 This collection is great ! Sure there are some silly filler games on here . . . but some great ones like Shinobi ( make sure to unlock the arcade version . . . that's the one I really wanted ) , Altered Beast ( again . . unlock the arcade version ) , Sonic and the Golden Axes . Unlock Zaxxon . . too . . . I think I played that on my Commodore 64 !
All the familiar sights and sounds really brought me back to sitting and playing my genesis . . . how much were those game systems ? Like 150 ?
Funny , my 8 year old daughter was watching and I had been playing shinobi , Eswat , streets of rage , and others and she said . . . are these all the same game ? I had to laugh . . . she was right . . . the side scrollers just with slight variations / themes were VERY similar . Oh well . . . what they lacked in imagination . . . they more than make up in nostalgia and fun .
Get it . . . it's worth it .
Konami , Namco , Atari , midway . . . time to take a hint and produce similar museums for the PS3 . Get on it .

I ONLY gave this superb collection 4 stars because After Burner and the Golden Axe arcade games were not here . But the rest is GREAT ! ! There are also a couple of great titles missing but they are not THAT good .
The best games are : Altered Beast , Alex Kid , Beyond Oasis , Alien Syndrome , Space Harrier , Sonic 1 and 2 , Shinobi 1 and 3 , Streets of Rage 2 and 3 , Golden Axe 2 and 3 , and Fantasy Star 4 .
The rest of the games are also great but there are some that are kind of lame . But of course , some of the games that I don't like are actually great in the gendre of videogames .
ONE MORE THING : They shouldn't put : Altered Beast ( arcade ) , Congo Bongo , Alien Storm , Golden Axe Warrior and Bonanza Bros . THOSE GAMES SUCKED ! ! . . . Ok , maybe Golden Axe Warrior and Altered Beast could stay but the others should leave so there would be more space for After Burner and the Golden Axe arcade games .
P.S : The old Genesis cheat codes are still functional in here .
Adios .

Here's how it should have went .
Sega should have given us a literal Sonic Ultimate Collection by putting Sonic 1 , 2 , 3 , 3D , Knuckles , Advance 1 , 2 , 3 , Spinball , Mean Bean Machine , Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic CD on one PS3 disc with unlockable extras like the Game Gear titles .
Streets of Rage should be remade in HD . There are already fan-made Streets of Rage games out there with awesome remixed soundtracks . An epic HD remake with the original Streets of Rage 1 , 2 and ( the Japanese version of ) 3 as extras would make a fine stand alone PS3 game .
Golden Axe 1 , 2 , 3 and the terrible RPG should have been unlockable extras on the recent
Golden Axe : Beast Rider
.
With the exception of coveted titles like Shining Force the rest in this collection are embarrassing and forgettable . Super Thunder Blade is as godawful as it has always been and time hasn't been kind to many of the others .
If Sega / Backbone Entertainment were going to quickly rush 40 - ish Genesis / Mega Drive games onto a PS3 disc then why didn't they just make a bit more effort and chuck in EVERY other game that was released on this console as they'd easily fit onto a Blu Ray disc .
But that didn't happen I'm afraid , so for the moment we'll have to stick to emulators .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
This package is easily worth the $30 asking price for anyone with even a slight knowledge of Sega Genesis games .
Looking to replay some Sonic from back in the day , they're all here . Jonesin ' for a quick game of Altered Beast ? How ' bout some Golden Axe ? All classics , all here . As someone who grew up with these games , this package is a treasured blast from the past . And since another reviewer so nicely went into the details of every game , I will withold . Needless to say there is something for everyone here .
As previously mentioned , the ability to save real time is a valuable added bonus . That said , I particularly would have appreciated adding specific cheats into the actual games , e.g . unlimited lives / continues , but most of these can be found at GameFA。 's anyway . A couple printed pages and you're good to go .
Now some caveats , these games are from the late 80 ' s early 90 ' s , and the graphics / music are representative of the era . Some look decent , some are looking a little worse for wear . If you are accustomed to post PS2 / Xbox graphics , picking up this might seem like a terrible idea .
But , if warm fuzzies are generated just by hearing the old Say-ga on console startup , then this package is for you . Highly recommeded . ( Four stars for fun only because the older controls can require some reacquainting ) .
Last note , when entering codes , it appears that the button mapping is :
A = Triangle
B = Square / Circle
C = X

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
Well allow me to start out by saying that has a child I was an SNES kid and later migrated onto Sony's consoles , I knew a little about Sega but never wanted there stuff enough to bug my parents to buy them for me .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
I never had a Genesis , so I missed out on a lot of great games .

Spot on emulation and save states certainly equals 5 stars in my book !
! ! A first ! !

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
When it came down to video games back in the early to mid 90 ' s , video games have started to become much more aminstream with its core audiences .

Fun & Enjoyment : B +
Overall : B +

Growing up , I never got the chance to own a Sega Genesis being an SNES owner myself in the 16 bit era .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
I got a great deal on this game ( paid about $10 ) , and I really can't complain getting close to fifty classic games for that price .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
I got a great deal on this game ( paid about $10 ) , and I really can't complain getting close to fifty classic games for that price .

This collection really took me back to my childhood when I played the few games that we actually owned . I mainly bought it for its collection of Sonic games . My 2 young daughters are head over heels with Sonic , so it's been a blast showing them just how old Sonic is and how he looked back when I was a kid .

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection ( Video Game )
This is the biggest collection of games to come out of the 16 bit era on a collection ( I think anyway ) and it has some amazing titles that are simply too rare to buy the originals on other sites , almost every Sonic game released , all of the Phantasy Star games , Shining Force , Streets of Rage etc , you know the list it's huge and worth a lot more than they sell it for .

I'm a sucker for old school games and I enjoy playing them more than I do the newer ones . So when I found this game , I was juiced ! I played Sonic and Mean Bean Machine for hours when i was kid , and this game is great for the late nights or game nights when all the friends are over ! I'd recommend this game for anyone who thought Sega Genesis was the best console ever in the 90s !

I have been playing this with my sons on my PS3 quite a bit lately .

I originally purchased this game based on seeing several classics I used to love playing . Once I sat down to play , I started seeing all these other games that I had forgotten about . Overall its just a nice trip down memory lane , to a time when substance of a game made it good , not graphics .

I purchased this collection for the Sonic series of games and Altered Beast , and I must say , this package is well worth the price just for those games alone .

As you can see from the list of games in this collection , there are a ton of them included .

I like this collection , but there were some real gems missing in my opinion . I bought it knowing that the . Mortal Kombat series and Primal weren't included but that didn't change how much they shouldve been in here . The included games are great though . However there are only a total of three save slots for all forty games , which just doesn't make any sense .

For the record I grew up with a NES , played computer games during their hayday ( the 90 ' s ) and my second console was an N64 .
( Great gameplay isn't something that's new , or dead for that matter . )
Enjoy .

This is a great value for anyone looking to stroll down memory lane .

I used to play most these games in the 90s , thanks to SEGA Channel , one of the greatest inventions ever .

For Genesis fans that sold , lost , or for what ever reason miss those old classics this is totaly worth it !

I had the PS2 Sega Genesis collection which was a pretty good collection of 28 games .

Before all these needless Sonic games and Golden A * * I mean Axe beast rider there was the great Sonic , Shinobi and Golden Axe games if you were born in the late 90 ' s and you missed out you should get this if have a PS3 or a 360 this is great if you like the retro games like I do or just never got to experience the 16 bit era this is a nice collection .

This collection is great !
Get on it .

There are hundreds of hours of games to play here .
Go for the trophies , you'll end up finding some games you wouldn't normally try , but that are really great .

i dont know what to say about this game , i'm big fan for sonic serious , i love sonic games and i'm always searching for cool sonic titles , last sonic games is too bory , i wished to play classic sonic games , thin i found this very cool game , i bout it to remember my past when i was 9 years , after 17 years , i found this game and took me back to my 9 years , this game is too easy too funny , too cheap , 27 dollar is very cool price to get platinuim trophy in this funny game , if you did not interested any title in the game stores , if you want to remember your self when you was a chiled and go back in your memories , if you want 1000 / 1000 achievements or platinuim trophy , this game must be your choice .
sorry for my little bad english cuz i'm not good in this language

It's an ultimate collection but for me the fun of the games is just so so . i sold it after several days .

It's a shame but I rated this title high just so that people could see this real review . Purchasing the Sonic Ultimate Collection , is like purchasing tickets to a lakers game just to go and find out Kobe , and Gasol is not playing ! ( or whoever your favorite players are ) Why , why , and why do we have to settle for the water downed re-releases ? where's Mickey Mouse castle of illusions , captain america and the avengers , moonwalker , x-men , x-men clone war , earthworm jim , lakers vs the celtics , mortal kombat , and many top sega genisis titles ? I still have a genisis , thank goodness and a rare store in torrance california that has many genisis original titles . I feel it's a waste to purchase the disc when my favorite games arent even on there , sad too because I would love to play them on my PS3 , so I don't have to switch for gaming . Shinobis , streets of rage are cool , so they did try but I can't help but feel that the company knew they left out the best titles ! for what ? what are we waiting for ? another marketing plan that does not appeal and possibly ruin a great chance to bring some real life back into world wide gamers , come on now , we are spending our money so at least give us what we really like ! ! !

I know Sonic Mega Collection and Sega Genesis Collection on Playstation 2 upgrade to Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection on PS3 . I play classic Sega Genesis games on PS3 . I never play Golden Axe warrior on Master system . I will first time play Golden Axe Warrior . I enjoyed old classic video games . I know Sega Genesis , NES , SNK Neo Geo , SNES , Nintendo64 called Wii virtual console . I like to classic video games since 1985 - 86 . I know Sonic Unleashed had 2D and 3D games . I know Sega video arcade games in Luxor at Las Vegas . I have use playstation 3 . I know trophy for playstation 3 . I know no trophy before playstation 3 in 2008 . Some playstation 3 games have a trophy . Playstation network games have trophy . Playstation games had add the trophy near future .

I had a Genesis growing up and loved it . I still love many of the games and had really looked forward to the PS3 version , hoping that there would be some other games not previously release from the classics . However , it did not offer much new from the other classic collection titles . Echo , Shinobi , Golden Axe , Vectorman . . they were all on the previous discs . What about other games ? Spiderman , X-men , Chakkan the forever man ? There were a lot of great games on the Genesis , so why do they just keep releasing the same games over and over on these collections ?

This game is fun for those who liked the old sega games .
None of the graphics are updated , it is just a direct port with some background videos , and screenshots of the cover / game cartridge .

the idea is amazing but the execution is poor . They could easily droped all the bad game and put instead the amazing games wich Genesis is really famous of .

I'll keep it short and simple ; no Sonic CD and no Sonic 3 + Knuckles pretty much gives this game a 1 star . Hopefully we'll be able to download it later

This is a nice product if you want to play some old school games that you miss .

I bought this to play with my gf . These games are so bad and the graphics are such low resolution compared to what the PS3 can do that we both put it away never to play again . A complete waste of money .
I suppose if you were once into these games then you might enjoy it .
