Son of Godzilla

  • 021 4  As of the early 90 ' s , giant monster films have been enjoying a level of sophistication ( and I use this term loosly ) that they have never seen before . While the concept of a man in a giant suit destroying tiny models is always appealing to fans of the genre , it can now be done with an ever more increasing level of technical prowess and realism . In short , monsters like Godzilla can do things that are , essentially , just plain cool . Conversly , the film in question is certianly NOT indicative of anything mentioned above . In fact , it is perhapes one of the most bizzar Kaiju movies that I have ever seen in my life . Godzilla is made to look more appealing , and he sheds his image of terror for one of fatherly benevolence . To complete this process Toho gives the king of monsters a costume that , disturbingly , makes him look like he has severe autism . The only thing worse than Godzilla is his ' son ' , Minya - - who can best be likened to the Michilan Man . All is well though , as the movie is laughably funny , however not really my first choice when I get an itching to watch some kaiju induced destruction - - as there really is none . Interesting as a curiosity , and representative of the more , shall we say , so bad it's good godzilla , Son of Godzilla is somthing that only old school G-fans should look at . This is really a two star movie , with the third star added for the origional japanese audio track , which is included on this dvd ( as well as on every other ' 50th anniversary ' re-release ) . For a more sophisticated look at Godzilla , check out the original Godzilla versus the Thing ( aka , Godzilla versus Mothera ) or the newer , Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S .
    • 002 4  This review is from : Son of Godzilla ( DVD ) The Columbia / Tristar ( SONY ) release of SON OF GODZILLA is the International version . It is in wide screen . It also has dubbing done in Japan . This is similar to the recent DVD releases of Destroy All Monsters . So it is different from the version most fans grew up with . ( The version that had Peter ( Speed Racer ) Fernandez as the voice of Goro . ) The good news is that it is UNCUT and features a 3 min . prologue cut from the american TV version , which features Godzilla frightening coast guard pilots in a tropical storm at sea . Incidently , Tere has always been some confusion over which island is Monster Island . Well , the original japanese title of Son of Godzilla is Monster Island's Decisive Battle . So that settles it . Monster Island is Sorgel Island from Son of Godzilla . Im sure this is just a western arguement and every Japanese fan knows Monster Island is Sorgel island .

    • 008 4  I used to watch this movie as a kid , and when that spider ( spiga ) came out of the ground , I was in total awe of him . He is one of the coolest monsters in the earlier Godzilla series and was only be defeated due to the combined force of ' G ' and Minya . This movie has a real centimental value as the viewers see Godzilla's more fatherly or loving side contrasted by his brute strength and Power and he fries some giant mantises . To sum up , for any true Godzilla fan , this is definitely a MUST SEE !
    • 012 4  I've never been a really big fan of Godzilla , but I do have a soft spot for this adventure in the big green guys exploits . In this enjoyable outing , we meet the big lugs little son ( GWAA , GWAA ) , some giant mantis and a rather silly looking spider . Pappa ' Zilla has to teach junior the in's and out's of life as a rampaging monster , including how to blow fire ( the kid keeps blowing tiny smoke rings , instead ) , and how to defend himself from his prehistorical enemies . The story follows a group of intrepid scientists experimenting with changing the climate on the monster filled island . Its fun to watch and occasionally moving . And take a good listen to the films title music . Doesn't parts of it remind you of Jerry Goldsmith's score for ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES ? Or is it just me ? The new anamorphic widescreen DVD is a pleasure to watch . Picture and sound are very nice and the best feature of all , for me at least , is the ability to watch the film with the original Japanese soundtrack instead of the poorly dubbed English version ( which is also included ) . Listen to both and compare the two . I think you'll see how better the film plays in Japanese . English sub-titles are , of course , included . There are a handful of trailers but no other extras of value . The good news , coming soon , is one of my other fav Godzilla flicks , GODZILLA VS . THE SEA MONSTER . I know , its not the best of the bunch , but it was the first film I saw starring the Big G when I was a kid , so its a sentimental favorite . Godzilla fans rejoice ! And enjoy ! - George Bauch .
    • 013 4  It's been said many times that this is the worst Godzilla Movie in the series . Seeing as how Godzilla flicks are never striving for great artistic merit along the lines of The Godfather and The Godfather II , there's no need to call any Godzilla movie bad . Let's face it . All Godzilla movies are bad in some way . That's what makes them so fun . Men in rubber suits and monsters on wires destroying tiny models . Probably my least favorite in the series is the Original , which takes itself far too seriously . Although it scared the beejezus out of me when I was 5 years old . I was watching Godzilla movies in the 60 ' s , folks . But , I have to tell you , when I was a kid , this is the one they would always show on TV along with MONSTER ZERO and DESTROY ALL MONSTERS . It's so bad it's THE BEST ! ! This is one of my favorites . The costumes and the special effects are so rank they stink up the screen with an amateurish zipper skin monster movie beauty . This movie ROCKS ! ! Although , I love the whole Godzilla Legacy . The only thing that maybe kills some of the joy is Minya's annoying little whining cry . WAWA . WAWA . Wow , just as weird as GODZILLA VS HEDORAH ( or SMOG MONSTER ) . And far more friendly . If you have a little boy . Forget Disney or Pixar animation , this should be the first movie he ever sees . How young is too young for SON OF GODZILLA ? LONG LIVE THE KILL OF ALL MONSTERS ! ! ENJOY .
    • 024 4  This review is from : Son of Godzilla ( DVD ) Ok , so here's the deal . Scientists fooling with the weather create GIANT preying mantis that don't really do much except serve as fodder for Godzilla to train his newly hatched son on . A giant spider DOES give Godilla and his mini-me some problems however and the end is one of those suspended animation type of closures . This movie is FUNNY . Mini-Godzilla can't blow much fire and ends up with pitiful little smoke rings until his quick-witted ( ? ) father comes up with the idea of stomping on the little guy's tail . THAT produces a satisfactory Godzilla blast and with the two of them directing radioactive flames at their enemies they can't be stopped ! This movie is FUNNY and although it suffers from the common guy in a rubber suit special effects , it's a must have for those who think these movies have their own specific charm . I remembered this from seeing it as a kid and just had to see what it was REALLY like . Had me laughing and I thought it was a good flick . for what it was . ONLY for those who LIKE Godzilla movies ! If you're just looking for a sci-fi creature flick , you might be disappointed !

    • 053 4  First of all Baby Godzilla looks like a Marsh Mellow Puff Man . You know what that means ! CORNY ! How'd that guy live though the storm anyways ? But still I have to give it a three because it is wicked funny .

  • Son of Godzilla ( DVD ) A group of Japanese scientists set up a station on Solgel Island to conduct weather control experiments . However , an accident causes their experiment to go out of control , and several gigantic , mutated preying mantises are created . In turn , they unearth a gigantic egg , from which an odd reptilian creature emerges - - Minira , a.k.a . Minya , the son of Godzilla ( once dubbed Tadzilla by Forry Ackerman in the pages of Famous Monsters of Filmland , and the name stuck ) . Soon , Godzilla emerges from the sea to save his offspring from the predatory monsters . He has no sooner defeated them when another mutant , a hideous giant spider , appears , and the monsters engage in another ferocious battle . To save themselves , the scientists commence a new weather experiment , this time turning the island into a frigid , snow-covered wasteland , forcing the monsters into deep-frozen hibernation . Son of Godzilla is often maligned by fans , citing Godzilla's cute offspring and the decidedly inferior Godzilla suit as its primary weaknesses . However , the story is highly imaginative , and the ensemble cast includes some of Toho's finest talent . The giant , mutated island creatures - - a trio of monstrous preying mantises ( known as Kamakiras ) and a huge spider ( Kumonga , a.k.a . Spiga ) - - come off remarkably well , particularly in the battle scenes . While Son of Godzilla ventures farther into juvenile territory than past entries in the series , it features some clever humor , exciting action , and occasionally brilliant special effects . The film never received a theatrical release in the United States , and having been relegated for years to airings of second-rate prints , the movie is done reasonable justice by Sony's beautiful-quality DVD . No extra features of any note , alas .
    • 001 4  Son of Godzilla , directed by Jun Fukuda , is one of the most fun of the Godzilla movies . In this film , a group of scientists encounter the legendary King of the Monsters while conducting weather experiments on a tropical island . When a mysterious egg hatches into a baby Godzilla , the big monster becomes a reptilian father figure to the playful youngster . A horde of monstrous bugs show up for the traditional monster battles . This Godzilla movie seems to be directed towards a younger audience ; it is more exciting and funny than scary . The enjoyable antics between Dad and baby are enthusiastically portrayed . The film as a whole is well complemented by Masaru Satoh's funky , energetic score . And the monster battles are well done . Although the silly quotient of the film may turn off fans of the serious original Godzilla , I think that this sequel should be enjoyed for what it is : an entertaining sci-fi fantasy . The final scenes of Son of Godzilla contain some of the most haunting and poetic images ever filmed for a giant monster movie . If you are a fan of the Japanese giant monster genre , you won't want to miss this delightful film .
    • 004 4  The picture quality is excellent on this DVD but the audio is not the original audio tracks from the original released movie . So if you are a Godzilla fan you may be disappointed by the re-dubbing of the monster movie classic .
    • 005 4  Finally some effort went into bringing the Golden Age of Godzilla ( Godzilla , King of the Monsters to Destroy All Monsters ) to new life . This DVD release of the 8th in the Godzilla series is full of vibrant color , quality sound , and presented in wide screen format for total viewing enjoyment . This is the original Japanese version with some opening footage that was cut from the American release . It as original Japanese ( english sub-titles ) and dubbed English ( although not the same dubbing as common american release ) . One truely sad note is that the DVD has no extras to speak of , even if the extra were in Japanese with no sub-titles I'd think they would be worth watching . The story is a simple one , scienists on a remote South Sea island are conducting weather experiments when they come accross a gigantic egg . The egg hatches into a baby godzilla who gets into several scraps with titanic mantis ( Gimantis in America / Kamacarus in Japan ) and a huge spider god ( Speiga in America / Kumonga in Japan ) that only the BIG G himself can rescue him from mortal peril . Where does SOG fall into my Golden Age of Godzilla scale ? #1 - Godzilla vs the Thing ( the best of the series ) #2 - Destroy All Monsters #3 - Monster Zero #4 - Godzilla , King of the Monsters #5 - Ghidrah , the Three Headed Monster #6 - Godzilla vs the Sea Monster #7 - Son of Godzilla #8 - King Kong vs Godzilla #9 - Gigantis , The Fire Monster ( the worst of the series ) A must for fans of Godzilla and fun family entertainment without computer generated creatures .
    • 006 4  This movie weighs in as yet another South Seas fantasy yarn . Very low bloodshed , light-hearted subject matter . The locations are great on this film . The acting is good , not spectacular , but both consistent and entertaining . Unlike some of the other Godzilla yarns , the monsters here are very plausible and natural . In the science fiction world , heat and radiation can enlarge just about anything . A few of the Godzilla / Minilla scene to feel more suited for Barney goes back to his roots but Minilla makes a good dramatic focus for the film . Son of Godzilla reveals another side of Godzilla , that of a parent . This concept seems to hold some favor with the Japanese , as it is repeated through several other films .
    • 007 4  Son of Godzilla is an okay entry in the series , although it's a bit thin in the plot department . Minya is so cute ! He reminds me of a baby monkey . Thankfully he doesn't speak in that Don Knotts-esque voice as he does in Godzilla's revenge . I am very pleased and impressed that Columbia / TriStar is releasing classic Godzilla movies in beautiful widescreen prints , especially those that were not in the Simitar collection ( all of which I thankfully own ) ! ! I was surprised to see scenes , including the introductory one that were cut from the US version that is on video . I am looking forward to future releases , hopefully including Godzilla vs . Megalon and Terror of MechaGozilla in remastered / widescreen versions .
    • 009 4  I have been a fan of Godzilla since the 80s and I have to say as far as the movies when Godzilla is a good guy , this is extremely underated . The plot makes sense and the monster battles are as great as always . This is the debut of Minya ( or Minilla ) , which throws people off the movie since he isn't that popular with American fans . However , this film also introduces two fan favorite monsters as well , Kamacuras ( Gimantis in this movie ) and Kumunga ( Spiega in this movie ) . Another thing that some don't like is the way Godzilla looks , which was intended by the creators to look friendly , just really looks ugly . I highly recommend this movie to fans of the genre and Godzilla fans in general that have heard bad or good things about . I say , give it a try and watch it for yourself . I did , and really enjoyed the movie for it's very interesting plot and new monster that are introduced . For a children's film , this still has an adult feel to it which makes it fun for all ages . I love it !
    • 010 4  Better than Godzilla's Revenge and Godzilla Vs . Megalon and still fun to watch .
    • 011 4  Thursday , December 16 , 2004 / 4 of 5 / Amusing , Whimsical entry in the series . Son of Godzilla , recently released on DVD is presented in a very nice widescreen transfer from the original . Colors are bright and vibrant . Weather experiments are being conducted in secret on an island that just happens to play host for mutated spider Kumonga , scary giant mantises Kamacuras , and of course the loveable Godzilla Jr . , Minya . Godzilla is drawn there thankfully just as Minya comes out of his shell and is being ¡ ¥ picked on ¡ ¦ by Kamacuras . The back story is amusing with a large cast of kaiju eiga regulars running about and meeting up with an oddly for the time slender beauty left on the island by her father . Later this film would be picked apart for its stock footage in Revenge of Godzilla . Minya never fails to amuse with his smoke / fire ring breath which would reach it ¡ ¦ s comedic apex in Destroy All Monsters going over Ghidora ¡ ¦ s middle head . ƒ º I hadn ¡ ¦ t actually seen this one in my 30 plus years of Godzilla viewing , at least that I can remember , so it was a nice treat having watched Tokyo SOS the same day . My wife just shook her head at the effects , and I had to patiently explain the wonder of kaiju eiga and its nostalgia and feel good value . Recommended .

    • 016 4  This review is from : Son of Godzilla ( DVD ) I had not seen this film in over 35 years and it is one of the weirdest in the series . This time out The Big G becomes a dad and hilarity ensues . This film is a cross between Godzilla films with a little Gilligan's island and H.R . Puff N Stuff thrown in for good measure . A mixed bad for sure , but it does have some good battles with Gi-mantis and Kumonga ! The film is filled with silliness like Godzilla teaching Minilla ( Godzilla's son ) how to breath his radioactive breath ! This one is aimed even more at the kiddies than most of the films with Godzilla looking cute with big doll like eyes . The antics with Godzilla's son are hysterical and the monster battles are decent , but for the most part this one is a little too silly for hard core fans . It's an enjoyable entry if you can take the new kiddies approach , the DVD transfer is very clean and in widescreen . Unfortunately the film has been re-dubbed , but it doesn't hurt the overall experience unless you have seen the original recently . It also has an extended beginning that I didn't remember as a kid . If you're a fan of the series you'll probably want to pick this one up .

    • 018 4  This dvd has the best picture quality I have seen for something that was filmed so long ago . I wish my other Godzilla dvds had a picture like this one . The picture is a close to HD as you can get . I hope they plan to release Godzilla films on Blue Ray in the near future .
    • 019 4  This review is from : Son of Godzilla ( DVD ) I've heard some people say that this is a kids movie . They're wrong . the scientists who live here have to deal with ( before the expirement ) unusually large praying mantises and after the expirement , giant praying mantises , the son of Godzilla , one of their memebers going mad , Godzilla , and the Spiga ( A.K.A . Kumonga ) gives a great story and good music , so I suggest adding this to any monster movie collection

    • 023 4  this movie was one of G's worst movies , but since it is a G ' movie it is better than most other movies out there , good for a die-hard G ' fan who also likes to have some comedy in with there action , like Deep Rising . anyway i would recomend this movie as a starter for a Godzilla collection of any size , or , variety .
    • 026 4  Son of Godzilla is one of my least favourite Godzilla movies . Not reaching the heights of unintentional comedy that the likes of Godzilla vs . Megalon achieved , and far from being an exciting monster movie like the original Godzilla , this is an unmemorable , rather dull entry in the series . The human plot is even more boring than usual , the monster battles are practically non-existent , Godzilla's foes are appallingly sub-par , the Godzilla suit disappointing , and his son , Minya ( or Minilla ) is better left undiscussed . The one redeeming factor are the optical effects , which are surprisingly good and better than in previous entries like King Kong vs . Godzilla . The DVD from Columbia is nothing short of a revealtion . For the first time in North America in widescreen ( 2.35 : 1 ) , the sharp and colourful image quality makes the film look a lot less cheap than it used to . For purists , the disc offers English dubbed audio as well as , also for the first time in North America , the original Japanese track with English subtitles . Also included are some random trailers , including one for Columbia's line of Godzilla DVDs and the Japanese teaser for Godzilla : Tokyo SOS .
    • 027 4  The eighth film in the series . Re-dubbed in English . Everyone who was a child in the 1970 ' s has seen this one on television . It may very well have been one of the first Godzilla movies we've seen . We remember Little Minilla who could blow a ring of radioactive smoke . When the movie begins you might think it's Godzilla on Gilligan's Island , but it's actually Sollgel . A research team from the United Nations is there to conduct weather-control experiments , but on this spooky island , they are terrorized by a giant praying mantis . Now in real-life , praying mantises are very nice little insects . They like to sit on children's fingers . They are a friend to the lady bugs and to every gardner and farmer . They like to eat aphids . Many of them in one day or night . The thick big belly grasshoppers are the bad insects . The Praying mantises were trying to break a Dinosaur egg , but actually helped Baby Godzilla to hatch . Now there sharp feet can hurt Baby Godzilla . But don't worry , here comes Godzilla to help the baby . The island grows big oranges too . There's also a giant spider to deal with . The next film in the series : Destroy All Monsters ( 1968 ) . Update : Godzilla may return in 2012 . A deal has been made with TOHO , Inc . Warner Bros . will be co-producing and co-financing .
    • 028 4  When i first saw this on a old american version dubbed tape i thougt it was pretty bad the fights were ok but it just wasn't much fun . but having just seen this on the big screens in a subtiled japanes version my opinions have changed . i found the movie very entertaining especially because the whole audience was getting into the movie and cheering and laughing the whole way through . this movie should not be compared to the others because it has a totally different feel than the others , and should just be viewed as a fun popcorn movie .
    • 029 4  This movie is focuing towards a harm hearted godzilla. This the movie introdue minya the retarded son of godzilla who blows smokes instead of a fire blast or sort.Mainly it focus on the minya and his adventures running off but really the end its pretty cool when they team up and destroy Kumonga ( a Big Oh Spider ) .
    • 030 4  I have fond memories of watching this when I was a child . Godzilla's son is so cute to watch . All the giant size insects are cool . My son loves it as well . Godzilla is always the star and the good guy to me .
    • 031 4  This movie is a step up from . Godzilla's Revenge Which clearlyuses stock footage from Godzilla's Son My vote for the worse Zilla is the Terror of Mecagodzilla It's even worse than ' Smog Monster'Which is lame .
    • 032 4  Some scientists ' experiment goes all wrong and mantises and a spider are made gigantic . The mantises then unearth an egg and out hatches a hideous thing that looks like a talking piece of shit . Then we find out it's really Godzilla's son when a character mentions how it looks like a baby Godzilla . Then daddy comes to the rescue and he isn't happy . He kicks the mantises asses . The baby Godzilla grows into a toddler Godzilla who looks like the pillsbury dow boy . Father and son have many more adventures together .
    • 033 4  Sweet movie . Baby Godzilla is very cute in it . The music is nice and there is a giant spider in it too . The film is very thrilling and adorable . I really loved it .
    • 034 4  The comedic antics of Minya ( the eponymous Godzilla tadpole ) and the ugly face of the Godzilla costume in this one have caused Son of Godzilla to be unfairly written off as a lesser film in the series . It's actually a gem of a movie with a great cast , a suitably suspenseful plot for a family sci-fi film , a fun version of Godzilla who manages to be a fearsome monster and hero at the same time , and truly great baddie monsters in Kamakurus ( giant mantis ) and Kumonga ( giant spider ) . One of my favorites . This DVD sadly doesn't include the original English version of this film , instead using an inferior dub from Hong Kong , but since we can watch the movie in the original langauge with subtitles that isn't so bad .
    • 035 4  A team of scientist and a nosy reporter settle on an almost uninhabited island to test a weather experiment which accidentally causes a radioactive storm that mutates the islands insects into Giant Hungry Monsters . Godzilla arrives to defend his infant son from the Giant Mantis's and a massive deadly spider called Spiga . Throughout the film we also see Godzilla as a father figure trying to toughen up his son who is pretty comical but the film is also filled with awesome Monster brawl scenes . To start , the setting is pretty sweet . Unlike the past where everything takes place in Tokyo , we finally have a change of scenery where things are less civilized and we are forced to see giant monster fight without retreating . The plot is easy to follow and the acting isn't too cheesy . The main Villain Spiga AKA Kumonga , is what really reeled me in . A humongous spider with an intention of killing everything in its path its just awesome . Its webbing ability is used for evil as opposed to the Larva Mothra and the final battle where Godzilla and his son take on the wicked foe during a raging blizzard is just intense ! Overall this is a great Godzilla movie . One of my personal favorites .
    • 036 4  I remember watching this years ago and loving it . Its funny , and aimed for kids but as an adult i still love this film . is it me or is Godzilla a dick in this movie ? he is not the best parent in this film . but its the big G so you gotta love him . Giant mantis and SPIDER and lovley hot island girl and goodfy scientists and i wanted ultraman to show up kind of . it reminded me of the science patrole . but yeah Godzilla is awsome . his some is a goofy cute ugly thing . Son of Godzilla will have your kids loving the Big G as much as you do . get it , it is one of the best .
    • 037 4  Yes , this a kid-friendly Godzilla film . No , it's not as bad as All Monsters Attack ! Son of Godzilla actually has a decent little story . Due to the ever increasing population of the Earth , a group of scientists are working on ways to make the unihabitable parts of our world livable . Unfortunately , one of their first experiments goes haywire , creating a colony of giant praying mantises . The massive insects uncover a giant egg and do their best to crack it open and destroy it . Bad idea as that egg contains Godzilla's son . . . . and he's not real happy about the buggy bullies smacking his kid around . Toss in one of the creepiest of Godzilla's foes with the giant spider Kumonga , and this is a decent entry into the long running Toho series . If you watch Godzilla films to see two ( or more ) monsters fighting . . . this is a flick for you . The giant mantises look awesome , and Kumonga is downright creepy ! ! Watching Minilla stumble around his father will generate a few laughs , and if you are planning on introducing the King of All Monsters to your kids , this is a great starting point as Minilla's antics are aimed right for that 10 and under crowd . While this is a kid friendly film , Kumonga's presence keeps Son of Godzilla from being strictly for the kids . The giant spide is a great foe for the giant lizard , and becomes a pretty formidable adversary for Godzilla . Their epic battle at the end of the film ranks right up there with Godzilla's best throwdowns . If you've been hesitant in watching this film , thinking it was only for the kids , give it a shot , you may be a bit surprised .

    • 040 4  This movie has a lot of old school fraknstein monster violence in it . From the old trying to take down a monster with the old shoot gun to the flameing torches . In this movie a gropup of reasearcher are in the middle of wheather project . All goes othe than a couple of attack my 15 feet tall prey mantisis . After a malfucation goes wrong during the experment on of the radioactive capsules goes of wrong . They island is incased in a nuclear storm with nuclear lighting a boil hot water near boil point . Shortly after word a baby godzilla is found and attacked by the now enlarged praying mantisis . Now the scientist with aid of a local reporter and young women must make it off the island will avoid godzilla who comes ashore and adopts the young baby godzilla . Can they scientist get of the island before Godzilla the the pray mantisis or a gigantic spider known as Spiga or Kumoga in godzilla conpedium vaporise crushed or devour them to death . Find out in the thrilling conclusion . A word of advice don't spend more than 25 dollars for a copy of this dvd unless your a real godzilla fantic like me or if the positive rate is very high of the copy your intersted in like say about 90% or higher .
    • 041 4  This is a great feel-good movie that constitutes escapist entertainment . In my opinion , it is actually one of the better-made Godzila movies . The language dubbing on this film is fairly good as well . This movie takes place on an island in the South Pacific , which gives it a pleasant tropical feel . The plot basically goes like this : a group of Japanese scientists , a reporter , and a native girl try to survive on an island with the dangers of Gimantises , Spiega , and of course Godzilla and his little son , Minilla . Godzilla and Minilla are mostly harmless , though I can't say the same for their massive insectoid rivals , which look fairly good , special-effects wise . Young kids would really love this movie but I think its good for people of all ages as long as they accept the way Godzilla and Minilla look in this film as fun and lovable instead of goofy and embarassing . Okay , they do look goofy , but they're still cute and lovable .
    • 042 4  This review is from : Son of Godzilla ( DVD ) this is one of the beter godzilla movies . don't confuse this with godzillas revenge it was a dud made from bits and pieces of other zilla movies.they are putting out godzilla vs the seamonster another good one wish they would hury and release the early godzillas that were blackand white like godzilla vs the fire monster , and godzilla raids again . they also need to release godzilla 85 on dvd along with releasing godzilla vs biolanta to make all the godzillas available on dvd.they need to release both u.s . and japaneese versions on the same disc since they run diff times and dub both in english.hopefully they will do that when they release godzilla the final battle .

    • 045 4  this is the first godzilla movie ive ever seen along with one of my friends . this has ultimantly puulled me into the godzilla series . so heres the story . my friends favorite movie store was closing and they were selling everything 95% of to free ( last year before school , when we were going to 6th grade in the fall ) . he had a choice of son of godzilla , barney , tellietubies , the international , scream , whiney the pooh , and so on . he chose son of godzilla . after watching this he promoted it to our friends and then we come to my part of the story . After 3 weeks i finally watched son of godzilla on youtube . i wasnt impressed but that changed my life . sonn i bought final wars and godzilla unleashed . that sucked me in . then i bought vs king ghidorah and battle for the earth 2 in 1 disk thing . ive been watching every movie online untill i get enough money to buy them .
    • 046 4  I was impress with the service.the movie , by the way , is cute. The delivery was very fast , including with a tracking # . Amazon has done avery good job in communication.I know there always room for improvements.but done a good job .
    • 047 4  In this movie , Japan now has a new threat . Baby Godzilla ! Minilla ( baby G ) really doesn't hurt anyone . In this movie Godzilla has a son and tries to teach him how to fight a giant praying mantis called Kamacurus . Minilla also fights Kumonga . I love this movie ! ! ! ! !
    • 048 4  Another disappointment from Jun Fukuda . Though tis film has a decent plot and some good effects , Spiega and the Gimantises , it still falls far short of previous entries in the series . The Godzilla design is particularly bad , looking nothing like the awe inspiring creature of old . Minya is a creature that should not have made it off the drawing boards . His childish antics degrade the film and have been known to cause viewers to experience an uncontrollable retching sensation . Though it has its defenders , SOG is not one of The Big G's best adventures .
    • 049 4  This is all in all a pretty sad movie that lacks in both acting and effects . Minya ( Godzilla's son ) is only entertaining to 5 year olds and the Godzilla suit is way too big for the actor to fit into . . . and it shows ! Half the time he's losing his balance and looks more like a giant toad . Toho wanted to make Godzilla resemble his son ( wouln't have been more refreshing to make Minya resemble Godzilla ? ) . Unlike the Godzilla film , this one is just for the real little tikes ( this was around the time where Godzilla was falling into Gamera's habits . . . saving people , being all nice nice to his son , ect ) . The only good thing is Godzilla's battle with a giant spider and prying mantis which are both trying to eat Minya's egg . All the best fight scenes in this movie ( in stock footage form ) can be seen in Godzilla's Revenge , wich in my opinion is alot better .
    • 050 4  This movie was so-so to me . Minya looked stupid as his son , but I did like the fight between Godzilla and the spider . Other than that , it was another childish movie .
    • 052 4  Summary : Godzilla and Son versus giant insects on a remote island . So-so Godzilla film featuring the first appearance of Godzilla's son , Minya . Although childish ( even for a Godzilla film ) , the movie is not entirely without merit . Next is Destroy All Monsters .
    • 054 4  This was the only Godzilla movie that scared me as a child . Those giant mantisses creeped me out . As an adult I still find them kinda creepy .
    • 055 4  What the hell ? Is that the pilsberry dough boy ? Holy Crap ! ! It's godzilla's son ! ! ! Hey , wait a minute I thought godzilla was male . And that he was the only godzilla . Well , so much for that way of thinking . Anyways this movie is part of the island trilogy witch Toho made in order to save money . The idea was to have godzilla fight on an island so they would not have to spend money on model buildings . Godzilla doesn't look that great in this movie . Neither did his son minya or manilla , who resembled the pilsberry dough boy . At least kamacuras and kumonga look awesome . The story and charecters in this film wern't the best but defintely not the worst . One thing I enjoyed about this film are the battles . These fights were kinda brutal . Kamacuras got one of its legs torn off and then the poor thing was fried . Kumonga puntured godzilla's eye too . Minya even saves godzilla ! Some other fun scences were of Minya playing games and the end scene where godzilla and his son stand huddled together in the snow . Minya hsn't appeared since Godzilla vs . Gigan and only appeared in 4 godzilla movies . Althogh Junior is also the son of godzilla he still isn't really Minya . Minya will be appearing in godzilla's 28th film Godzilla Final Wars .
    • 056 4  Though this film starts off very promising ( a second godzilla rumoured , a reporter on an island where sinister experiments are going on , a glimpsed giant mantis ) , things go swiftly into the mire as soon as the ludicrous , horrifyingly twee Godzilla Jnr shows up to indulge in stupid , unfunny rock-throwing contests and battle the most unconvincing giant spider ever come across . Presumably this is aimed at younger viewers ( that old excuse for making a duff film rearing its ugly head again ) , but when I saw this film as a youngster I was completely bored by the lifeless slow-moving ' plot ' and thought the special effects nothing short of laughable . This film only gets two stars because it's better than that dire 1998 Godzilla re-make . See ' Destroy All Monsters ' or ' Godzilla Vs Ghidorah ' instead .
    • 057 4  Out of all the Godzilla movies this has to be the worst . Godzilla looks nothing like he did in the previous movies , he looks deformed and looks as though someone was really making and effort to make him look phony . However the only thing that does redeem this movie is that it has an assortment of monsters . The sea monster , the giant spider , the giant mantids , Gabbara , angillas etc . . If you are a die hard G-fan you will appreciate any Godzilla movie [ pre-Matthew Broderick ] . I have to add it to my collection simply because it is a G-movie .
