XBox Live really is necessary to take full advantage of the full XBox 360 experience and is worth the investment . When you look at the price per month at a sale price of $35 it equals out to just under $3 a month ( $2.92 / month ) , which is less then a burger at most fast food joints . Even at the full $50 it is just over $4 a month ( $4.17 ) , which is still considerably less then the $7.99 a month default when you pay per month . Signing up to pay per month might cost you less out of pocket initially , but it equals out to nearly twice as much per year as buying this 12 month card ( $95.88 / year ) in comparison .
As for the XBox Live service itself , I love it . Having a Netflix subscription I can stream movies / TV sessions through the XBox 360 ( some even in HD ) straight to my TV with any of the unlimited plans . This in and of itself is worth the small fee and is how I convinced my wife that it was worth getting even though we are on a tight budget right now ; ) . The ability to play with my personal friends who live in other states without having to travel hours to see them is just to good to pass up . What more can you really ask for ? Xbox live for 12 months at a $10 discount . Sure it would be nice if it were free but that probably won't happen . One thing that would be great is if Amazon would just email the xbox live code to you rather than have to waste money / time shipping the actual card to you . But otherwise it's a prepaid card to get xbox live cheaper . You can use this to renew your current xbox live account , just punch in the codes into the membership section of your account and it auto renews it for another 12 months .

for those who have not yet obtained the Xbox Gold Live card , what are you waiting for ? This is the best thing since the invention of toilet paper and you use that everyday right !
I am 43 years old and purchased an addtional xbox to play along with my son on-line , and spend some time doing what he likes to do . Now that I too am on Live it is simply awesome . I wouldn't waste my time with anything other than a 12 month membership . Do the math its cheaper going 12 months .
If you have kids hooked on video games , spend some time playing along with them with Live . You might not be the best but you can bond with you kid by having them teach you and then watch their espression as you get better and better . Its the same expression you get watching them learn and do better .
Don't replace throwing the baseball , football ( for boys ) or the occasional tea party ( for girls ) they still need that too .
Anyhow , good luck and for me , this has been a great purchase well spent .

Actually , newegg has this for $40 and free shipping too . So it would be cheaper to choose where to buy depending on which states they tax .

First this is the cheapest xbox live card I have ever been able to find . I finally found out why they just don't e-mail the code is because it is easy to accidentally be deleted or be put in your junk folder . Another reason I heard was that it was easy for hackers or someone to get that code and use it before you can . In addition they want you to have a physical card that you know came from xbox and not from someone who sent you an e-mail with a non-working code . All in all this card is super worth it and I do agree the plastic on it is pretty wasteful .

Up until now I had used up one three months free trial and xbox had defaulted to monthly billing ( $7.99 from memory ) . Also , once the card expires it DOES NOT default back to monthly billing - encouraging me to go out and get another 12 month card , saving even more money .
I don't resent Microsoft charging for xbox live , its a great service . I even invested in a Netflix subscription recently to use that service through my xbox - also brilliant ( includes HD streaming ) . I do resent paying almost double for no reason though .

I don't resent Microsoft charging for xbox live , its a great service . I even invested in a Netflix subscription recently to use that service through my xbox - also brilliant ( includes HD streaming ) . I do resent paying almost double for no reason though .
My recommendation - look for the best offer on a 12 month subscription and you will save yourself cash every time .
