Pokemon, Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition

  • 006 4  I am a middle-aged mother who bought this game for my 5 year old son for Christmas . However , upon plugging it in , I found that unless a child is a pretty good reader already , this game would be difficult for them to play . I was going to put it aside for him , but thought I'd give it a whirl myself first . It hooked me completely ! I love it . It's given me a great education into the Pokemon phenomenum , which is good since my son likes Pokemon . It's non-violent . And , although challenging , not too difficult or frustrating - a plus for both kids and adults alike . This is the first video game that I have played to the end . I highly recommend it for anyone with children who are already competent readers . For those with younger children , buy it but wait until they can read to let them play it . I'll be waiting impatiently for Nintendo to release the Gold and Silver gameboy cartridges here in the states .
    • 114 4  I gave this game only 4 stars because it was basically a copy of Pokemon red and blue . It was very good , but all the Pokemon games could be better . I liked it because when you beat the game , you beat it fair , unlike in Pokemon blue and red because in those games you can clone rare candies , masterballs , nuggets , etc .
    • 152 4  This was the best experience of purchasing something online for me . And I have purchased a lot . It came in a timely matter - way before it was promised . It was in great condition . I have heard no complaints from my son who is the one who plays the game so it works well . I had no trouble getting in touch with the seller which I loved because I have had problems with that in the past with other purchasers . And knowing my purchase helped someone adopt a child make it that much better ! If I was ever looking for something else this would be the first website I would go to ! Kudos to you ! Janice Peden
    • 157 4  I bought this for one of my kids , because they had it in the past and it got lost . We got it again , and they love it !
    • 184 4  This game was the first pokemon game I ever had . It is easier than blue or red , and perfect for me , who didnt know anything about pokemon things at the time . It got me more prepared for the other games , and it is all around fun . I am addicted to this game !
    • 195 4  I think pokemon yellow is a really good game it is better than the other versions , it is more like the television proggramme because you meet Jesse and James . I recommend pokemon yellow for pokemon fans it is a great game it will not take you too long to finish . I reccomend that you buy it .
    • 232 4  Yet so far this is the best pokemon game there is . It has some of the some pokemon as the red and blue but has some wild ones that could only be traded for in red and blue like farfetched and tangeler . in the yellow version it also has picachu to tell you when you are being a good trained and when you are not .

  • 007 4  When I got this game I was so exited ! I couldn't wait to play it ! I'll do a quick story of the game . You start off from your house just like the red and blue . When you get out of your house and try to leave town , Profesor Oak stops you and he runs into Pikachu and catches it . He takes you to his lab . This time there is one pokeball on the table . Gary snaches it . That pokemon was supposed to be for you ! Then Oak gives you the Pikachu he caught earlier . After you battle your rival , Pikachu comes out of it's pokeball and he follows you on the screen and he will do very cute things in the game if you talk to him . Then you do that whole thing to get to Pewter . After you defeat Brock you go to Mt.Moon . After you deafeat Super Nerd Jessie and James are there to try to stop you . You can find Jessie and James throughout the game . That was just a little taste of what else you can do in this game . Pokemon can be found in different places like Farfetched can now be found in the wild ! I recomend to get this if you have never played the game before or if you love pokemon !
    • 089 4  I have played this game . In it you select or enter a name . You are then given your first Pokemon from Prof . Oak : a Pikachu . Then you begin your Pokemon journey in which you capture and raise Pokemon , then use them to defeat the various Gym Leaders along the way . Then , finally , you battle the Elite Four . The whole thing takes place in a magical world that kids and grown-ups alike will enjoy !

  • 011 4  The game itself is basically the same as Red and Blue but with extras and the pokemon in different areas . The graphics are definately better than on R B Plus you begin your journey with Pikachu who follows you about and smiles and hops when you look at him ! If you haven't got Pokemon and are thinking about it I would reccommend you get Yellow instead of Red or Blue. It's great 4 Pikachu Lovers .
    • 087 4  Pokemon Yellow Version is kind of better than Red and Blue Version . It is , however , mainly the same , such as the story , what happens in the game , and what you are to do . The newest things are that Pikachu follows you and that the pictures of the pokemon have changed . I would have given it 5 stars , but the story and options are the same as Red and Blue Version .
    • 174 4  I tried this game and it rocks ! ! ! After playing as Ash and being able to get Pikachu as your first in stead of the regular 3 I love this.Plus you can get all of the begining pokemon in the game with out any tradeing at all , so that means you don't have to trade back and frouth frouth and back . Thats why I given an A + + +
    • 228 4  I think this game is good , but it wasn't very original . If you own Blue and Red , then this isn't worth buying , unless you must have it . The only big difference is that Team Rocket is in it and Pikachu follows you everywhere . But overall a good game .

  • 013 4  Mum bought Pokemon Stadium and now I can play this on the TV too . I like it because Pikachu travels with you , not in the PokeBall . It is more like the TV show than red and blue versions . Also on TV it looks great - the colour is fabulous . If you only get one Pokemon game , make it this one . Then if you are lucky enought to have N64 Pokemon Stadium it will be even better .
    • 185 4  Yellow was a cool game ! But I just think the idea had to stick with the TV Show.Red & Blue were Better . . .
    • 249 4  A very good game followed from the TV series Pokémon . . . : )

  • 019 4  I finally let myself get pulled into the Pokemon world . Being an Anime fan , I decided to give Pokemon a go . After speaking with a few friends that have all three versions , they recommended I get the Yellow version first . Having a GameBoy Color already , made the purchase of the Yellow version a good buy since it supports colors . Gameplay in general is fun and it kept me glued to the Gameboy for hours on end . There is a lot to do in the game which means it won't be like other games that you buy and beat the game in a few days . This is a good buy . . . my 2 cents .
    • 015 4  Pokémon Yellow is almost exactly the same as Red / Blue / Green . The only differences are that you start out w / Pikachu , your rival starts out with Eevee , all of the cheats from Red / Blue are gone , the Gym Leaders have different pokémon , and the pokémon's pictures are different . If you already have Red / Blue / Green , I wouldn't really suggest buying it , but if you don't have a Pokémon game yet and want to buy one , this is an ideal first game for Pokémon lovers .
    • 060 4  Despite the many years I've played Pokemon , through all the versions I've bought , I am now 19 and Yellow is still by far the best one I've played simply for its simplicity . It gave more of a challenge than the newer Pokemon games . And I definately reccomend it to all new and old fans who haven't played it yet .
    • 084 4  . . . Now i'm back into it and have got yellow again . . . and this is a true classic . Starting of with pikachu is kinda stupid cause you have to raise a caterpy or a metapod in order to get a butterfree to beat your first gym leader . I've had the game for about 4 days and i play it everyday . Buy it even tough it is old .
    • 209 4  this game is the greatest.its more than 5 stars , its at least a 11 / 10 . it's perfect for those days when u have nothing to do and you want something to do for hours.its like chocolate , addictive ! now that they have gold and silver versions out , which has 150 more pokemon than the original 3 versions.its #1 on my christmas list . hey i'm 14 and trust me , this is a good game .

  • 021 4  Pokemon is a very popular TV series , video game , trading card game , and about everything else ! I didn't expect much more than total boredom , but this game is a lot more than it looks . More than 20 different locations to explore , 50 technical machines ( TMs ) , 5 hidden machines ( HMs ) , and more than 150 Pokemon . You can dig , swim , fly , and even cut through trees ! More than 100 people to battle , talk to , get gifts or trade with , and get hints . You can buy , recieve , and find more than 75 items , even invisible ones ! You can catch over 25 wild Pokemon , but you have to trade , recieve , buy , and metamorph ( evolve ) some . You start out with a Pikachu that you can talk to . It can get from REALLY mad to having hearts all around its head ! The fighting is really ungorey , and you can turn the animation to the battles off so you just hear ' BUMP ! ' There are tons of secrets in the game . You can even nickname or rename Pokemon and go to a hospital for Pokemon for free . You should buy this game , unless you want to wait until Gold and Silver come out . They have the new Pokemon up to 250 . I still think that's too many .
    • 070 4  I think that this game was fun but a little repetative it was cool with the changes but since the plot and place were the same as the original ( red blue ) it got boring .
    • 203 4  I finally got pokemon yellow after a very long time . the pokemon have new and better looks.I love how Pikachu follows you around , you can also talk to him and see how he feels By the way this is my team ( 8 / 25 / 01 ) Pikachu Thunder , Thunderbolt , Flash , Thunder Wave Pidgeot l68 Fly , Mirror Move , Quick Attack , Whirlwind Mew Cut , Transform , Psychic , Metronome Primeape Dig , Rock Slide , Low Kick , Fury Swipes Magmar Flamethrower , Smog , Confuse Ray , Fire Punch Blastoise Surf , Strength , Hydro Pump , Blizzard Yould you belive I got Mew inthe beginnig of my game . - August 25 , ' 01
    • 208 4  I want to play this casset because i haven ` t play this game and I think it will be fantastic . ThANK ` S ALEX

  • 036 4  Don't abandon your Gameboy Color just yet ! I got this game in 1998 when I was eight-years-old and almost eight years later , it is still one of my favorite games . Definitely a must have for all ages !
    • 086 4  I really had fun with this game I really liked the fact that you starter pokemon is a pichachu
    • 197 4  A very intertaining worth while game . It keeps the kids quiet for hours . Very fun really challenging

  • 048 4  I purchased this game as a request from my son Storm . He had the game before and really enjoyed it . He is VERY happy to get another and that it arrived so quickly

    • 072 4  Yellow Verson is really cool . They call it the show verson because you start out with Pikachu . It won't stay in the pokeball . Pikachu won't really like you , so you have to gain it's trust.Your rival starts out with Eevee , which is totaly useless in the beginning of the game . The game offers you a differnt way of battling another Yellow Verson . All the codes in the Red / Blue verson are not in the Yellow Verson . The graphics in the Yellow Verson are differnt. In other words , it's a cool game !
      • 179 4  I love this game , and it is a must-have for any pikachu fan ! Pikachu follows you around , I think it is so cute !
      • 180 4  Awsome game.Gra.phics-okay , but who cares ? This game rules ! You learn stragaty. It also is cute when Pikachu walks with you.Perfect for both beginners and pros .
      • 205 4  I thought that it was fun to play . But I didn't like that it was in black in white because black and white makes me sick . Although I liked how Pikachu follows you around ! He is so cute !

    • 085 4  This is one of the best pokemon versions ever ! It's better than red and blue except that in red and blue you can choose between bulbasaur charmander and squirtle . In yellow you have to choose pikachu wich would be a good starters pokemon . Here are 2 hints . 1 . If you want to catch a pokemon well first get out a poke ball . Then when the ball is halfway across the screen quickly press the A button rapidly . The ball will catch the pokemon . 2 . To evolve your metapod or kakuna keep it in battle and use only harden . Then take it out of battle and you will still get expert points making your kakuna or metapod go to a new level .
      • 234 4  It is just like pokemon blue and red . It has the same adventures . And is very exciting . This time you start out with Pikachu .

    • 096 4  Out of Red , Blue , and Yellow version , yellow has the best storyline . There really isn't anything any difference from the others except this time you have a little electric buddy along for the journey ! Watch how Pikachu interacts with with you and other characters as you make your way around the continent , collecting , raising , and battling Pokemon to become the ultimate Pokemon trainer in the world . I know what your thinking , What happens when you do everything there is to do ? . Well , your never actually done . If you get a game Link cable , you can even battle with friends . Grab your Pokeballs , and get ready to catch some poke pals !
      • 188 4  When I first started playing pokemon yellow , it was fun . you can explore around and visit other people's houses and sometimes find items . But i have to say , after awhile when you're playing , to me , it's very addictive , you really get into the game and just can't seem to stop . I think anyone who likes challenges and pokemon should definitely buy this game .
      • 193 4  I enjoyed this game enough to give it five stars . On vacations I can't get enough of it . I can wear out the batteries in under two hours playing this great game for everyone . If Pokemon Red , Yellow , and Blue are good , Silver and Gold have to be GREAT !
      • 220 4  I personally thought that when the game first came out that it was kind of dumb but now i'm getting bored of the other pokemon games so now i started playing again and it's pretty fun . Recommended for people bored of the other games .
      • 247 4  poke'mon is an awsome game it is chaleging with eight gym leaders to batttle the reason I like poke'mon is because I like the game I think its fun and there isn't really any game like it you should defenetly by this game it won't be a waste of money not at all no it won't

    • 108 4  ok this is one great pokemon game pokemon is the only thing that me and my friends have ever gotten into not this yugioh or digimon pokemon is the best because it has the easiest concept to level up beat the game and catch'em all nbow the pikachu feature i like becasue pikachu is soooooooooo cute but i wish you could play as a because you couldnt do that until crystal and about the mini game its great but very hard to get to play but when you can its totally worth it plus all the pokemon look like they shoud in the show so thats a plus no more missingno . but that was stupid because i never used it anyway and its a cheap way to beat the game but i did use missingno . and pokemon stadium to transfer rare candies from red and blue to yellow so i could win at prime cup and actually get the mini game so yeah its a good game

      • 134 4  this is truly the best pokemon game ever ! a must have 4 any pokemon fan . pikachu's cuteness and the way he follows u makes this the best pokemon game ever ! ! ! also u get all 3 of the starter pokemon in this game which also makes this a must-have game
        • 110 4  The game is original which makes it interesting but could use some more gadgets.Over all the game rocks and so do the pokemon like Pikachu .

      • 176 4  I am a big Pokemon fan and I love Pikachu.I have Red , Yellow , Gold , Silver , and Crystal and this is my favorite one.I like that Pikachu follows you around and has better graphics than Red an Blue.I don't really like that it is the same as blue and red but Crystal is also the same as Gold and silver.I didn't really play this game until I got bored of the others ' cause I passed the whole thing.I still play this game and I like it .
        • 163 4  I am old school when it comes to Pokemon and this is one of the best of the original three games . The controls and goal are the same as in Red and Blue with a few new features such as Pikachu following you and being able to check its mood and the introduction of Team Rocket's Jesse and James .
        • 181 4  I love Pokemon Red , Blue , and Yellow . I mostly like Yellow but I still like Red and Blue . I also love DragonballZ which is my second best thing I like . I like all the DragonBallZ games but my first favorite is Pokemon.Like I said Pokemon Yellow is my all time best and favorite game in the world .

      • 201 4  If you havin trouble in silph co . and cant find card key you go to the 5 floor go to the teleport daimond by the the rocket on the lower left . then telport back . go down go to the right and you find an item ball that will contain card key . you can also get lapras but why should i tell you how to get him . I cant wait to use my master ball to catch mewtwo .
        • 090 4  If you like Pokemon video games I totally recomend Pokemon Yellow for Color Game Boy . . This is my favorite Pokemon Game made , it's the best game of the pokemon video game series man . It's just fun as heck .
        • 101 4  I thought this game was really fun . The basic rules are the same , but the graphics are better , but Pikachu follows you around . You can even talk to him . If you dont have Red or Blue , you should buy this .
        • 191 4  pokemon yellow follows the story better . Because in red and blue you get your choise of Charmander Bulbasour and Squartil . But in yellow you are forced to get pikacho . Also in yellow there is no missing no . Jessie and james also appear in yellow . If i had to chose between red blu and yellow i would chouse yellow .
        • 215 4  This game is to much like Red and Blue version to me . It establishes that you just have to buy all the games . If you already have Red or Blue this is a waste of money although it is okay I guess . Plus you can't do codes on it . It's not true that all the pokemon are installed on this game like people say .

      • 243 4  Ok so the game wasn't that bad but it was almost exactly the same . The only execptions were that you had a little Tomagatchi thing in your game , Pikachu was one of the worst Pokemon in the game , different Pokemon were in different places and that's about it . If you want a good game get the original pokemon games . They shouldn't be that expensive . You get the original feeling of one of the best RPG's ever , you get some bad graphics , the game was not made to make money but to entertain people . The only reason Pokemon is making so many sequals is that they're losing money and the games aren't really that much different than the originals . Red and Blue are the best Pokemon games out there .
        • 091 4  Pokeomon Yellow is really good ; Pikachu is stronger than in other Pokemon versions . One problem is that it can be hard for kids who cannot read yet . It would also help if the screen was brighter .
        • 189 4  This game is like any other game , but you start out with Pikachu . Everything is the same , but less cheats and codes compared to the red and blue editions . You can teach Pikachu to surf if you have Pokemon Stadium . You beat R - 2 Master Ball 1 - 100 level and you can teach Pikachu to surf . You catch less pokemon than the other editions . The graphics of Pokemon is a little better than the other editions . It's really great if you're into Pokemon .

      • Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) ok let me just start and say that i really really hated pokemon ! after my friends show me some cards of the game i still was sure its not worth my time but i sayd ok lets try it i playd the red version on an old game boy of my friend it was reall cool all the idea behind the pokemon quest i camed to NY for a week so i orderd the game boy color the the red version the blue version and this version of pokemon now i'm back after 3 weeks of NON STOP GAME PLAY TIME i took the time to say that its worth evrey dollar its costs so buy it ! ( allso i recomand on game boy color pokemon red and blue versions ! ) I LIKE : A . here you got some color in blue and red version you got only red or blue color B . the idea of the game going more close to the TV show C . that pikachu all the time coming after you that is very sweet D . the sounds oh god i dont know how they got all the sounds in there but i know this they did a very very very good job with the sounds of EVREY THING YOU CAN THINK OF I DONT LIKE : well i didnt deislikes any thing hehe its all great ! P.S soory about soeplling guys i trying my best here
        • 049 4  Person who wrote DAMN ! THIS GAME IS SO OLD WHY WOULD U GET IT ? SURE PIKACHU IS NICE BUT AFTER A WHILE , the graphics are soooooooooooooooo bad , get crystal ! SAVE UR TIME ! MAN I DONT EVEN GIVE IT ONE STAR ! ITE NOW IT BE THER COLLECTING DUST ! You are totally wrong ! Even if it is old it is better than stupid Crystal . So get this game . This was the first game I got for my Gameboy SP and I did not regret it . This game is the best and much less confusing than that stupid Crystal , Silver and Gold . You get Pikachu and that is cool enough . For those that can't find Zapdos , ( it was hard for me to find him too ) , you need surf , ( in the Safari Zone ) and it is over the water after Ceralean , ( I think ) . THis game is Da Bomb ! ! !

        • 076 4  This is a great game ! As a pokefan for years , I have fallen in love with this game . Even after almost 100 hours of play and defeating the Elite Four ( which actually wasn't as hard as I expected it to be ) there is still plenty to do . IYou can continue fighting with new pokemon and try to collect all 151 ( Yes , Mew's available if you are lucky ) I am VERY excited to see if anything happens when you do collect all of them ! GREAT BUY !
        • 080 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I have this game it's fine but really hard i am a pokemon fan and it is fine but really unique and different and it is really hard i have to say i have not beat it in 3 YEARS but i guess i am a bad video game player.O MAN .
        • 166 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) For whoever it was that asked about the difference between the colors , Red , Blue , and Yellow are exactly the same except that some Pokemon are available only in whichever version you get . Gold and Silver are completely different adventures , and they also have no differences except for the Pokemon . Crystal is the same as Gold and Silver except BETTER ! : ) Ruby , Sapphire , and , I suppose , Emerald have the same rule . As for my review for this game , it's excellent ! Even at my age , I have fun playing all the Pokemon games , especially this game , and I must tell you , it never gets boring ! Every game is different , and each time you discover something new ! I highly recommend this game , and the others !

      • Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) OK , this is like a role playing game for kids . Kinda like RPG Lite . I'm a video game freak and thought I'd see what all the hype was about . A magazine suggested this one over the rest so I bought it . I must say I was instantly hooked . I spent hours and hours playing this game . The whole concept of training creatures , allowing them to evolve into more powerful creatures and working your way up the ranks of Pokemon greatness is awesome . This game follows the story pretty well . Ash starts with Pikachu . Your first opportunity at a Pokemon are of the common variety ( ex . Pidgey , Spearow , Caterpie and Rattata ) . You pretty much want to fight as much as possible with as many creatures or enemies in order to level up you Pokemon and get them to evolve . I will say that it is a pain to get every single one this version offers , but if you have a friend I suggest you each make a list and catch certain ones for each other . Even if you trade away a Pokemon you still get credit for having caught it , therefore the possibilty of catching them all is still there . There are certain Pokemon that are better than others so I would advise you to find the ones you want to train and keep them with you then go ahead and catch all the others you want to get credit for and work your way up the ladder that way . It is almost impossible to raise every Pokemon and evolve them all in order to get the credit for every single one . OK , so the content . You start with Pikachu and begin you quest to get all the Badges and fight the Elite Four . On your journey you have the opportunity to catch as many Pokemon as you could possibly want . You gain money by fighting enemies that way you can buy items to help your Pokemon from certain ailments . You can also buy items to increase certain abilities of your Pokemon such as their special , strength or speed . As you gain a badge you will gain certain abilities yourself as Pokemon over a certain level will obey you , you can use certain abilites such as cut or fly whenever you need and you also get a TM ( Technical Machine ) to teach your Pokemon a special ability . There are also HM's in the game that are kind of like technical machines , but much better . The only draw back to these is that you cannot unlearn HM's like you can TM's so that ability is stuck with them forever and cannot be deleted to learn newer moves . Your Pokemon can learn up to 4 moves so teach them wisely . I suggest picking up a strategey guide if you want to know which moves should or shouldn't be taught , plus the guides will tell you where ever single Pokemon you can catch is located . After collecting all the badges you have a chance to fight the elite 4 and get access to the Unknow Dungeon where there are tons of rare Pokemon for you to catch . That's the end of the game , but you can go back and catch other Pokemon that you may have missed . There are certain Pokemon that only appear once or twice in the game and are very hard to catch . I suggest saving the game before you fight these so if you are trying to catch them and accidentally kill them then you can try again without anything being lost . I like this game . If you like RPG's this is a good game , but probably won't quench your appetite for real RPG , but if you are new to the genre or just like Pokemon I suggest you pick this one up . You won't regret it .
        • 001 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) My kids and I all love the Pokemon Gameboys ( the three of us each have our own Gameboy ) . The blue Pokemon game is very similar to the red , with the Yellow having some slight differences . The foremost of these is the fact that Pikachu just won't stay in his Pokeball ! He follows you around in the game , and you have to keep him happy or you lose points and various opportunities . I also like the addition of Jesse and James ( characters from the cartoon ) , and the additional battles they provide . If I had to pick just one of the three , this is the one I'd pick . I like the way the Pokemon game challenges kids . I suggest also buying one of the books which shows the various routes and places . This allows kids to work at the tasks without getting frustrated . The idea is to start at Prof . Oak's house , get your first Pokemon from him , and then journey all around the land of Pokemon , collecting various wild pokemon ( which you catch by battling them until they faint ) , and doing battle with other trainers along the way . In the process , kids learn to manuever through mazes of increasing complexity ( which is why the manuals are a help ) , to gather and use items , and to develop strategies for fighting various types of Pokemon . My five year-old even started to read while using her Gameboy , from needing to know which items she had with her ( in her Item List ) ! All in all these are great games which can be played over and over ( although only one game at a time can be saved ) , and which will provide your kids with hundreds of hours of fun .

        • 005 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I am a middle-aged mother who bought this game for my 5 year old son for Christmas .
        • 008 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I'm a first time GameBoy owner and I found this game to be pretty impressive given the limitations of the GameBoys power . I have Pokemon Stadium for N64 which is outstanding and found that without Pokemon raised in the Red , Blue or Yellow games that you can only get so far . I resisted buying a GameBoy just to play the N64 game better but now I'm glad I did . I haven't played Pokemon Red or Blue but Yellow is simply a better version of both from what I've read . The graphics ( especially the battles ) are very good given the before mentioned limitations . I would say it is original Nintendo 8 - bit Game system quality . The sound is as good as possible given the tiny speaker and fits right in with the N64 game and the cartoon series . The gameplay itself is very absorbing and easy to pickup . I'm a novice but I can see where I'll be playing this game for quite awhile accumulating Pokemon I can export into my N64 game . The only criticism I have is the fact that you almost have to have both game systems to enjoy the Pokemon games , although they are very fun as stand alone products . You also have to have the Red , Blue and Yellow games to collect all the Pokemon as there is a handful missing from each game . For example , there are 12 of 150 missing from each version . I recommend this game highly however . Now go catch ' em all !

        • 010 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) The game itself is basically the same as Red and Blue but with extras and the pokemon in different areas .
        • 012 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Mum bought Pokemon Stadium and now I can play this on the TV too .
        • 014 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokémon Yellow is almost exactly the same as Red / Blue / Green .
        • 018 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I finally let myself get pulled into the Pokemon world .
        • 020 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokemon is a very popular TV series , video game , trading card game , and about everything else !
        • 022 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) pokemon yellow is a great game for every one . you start out in pallet town , recieve your first pokemon , pikachu , meet and battle your rival , gary , then set off . your first goal is to catch and raise pokemon so you can defeat the eight gym trainers and their pokemon . your second is to defeat the elite four , the most powerful pokemon trainers in the world !
        • 024 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) When I first started playing this game I thought it sucked . Imean how was I suppose to defeat Brock ? Well if you want to do it thehard way you catch a caterpie or a metapod and evolve it into a Buterfry . Or you can do it the easy way and capture a Nidoran in Pewter city . ( there is some grass as soon as you walk in to it ) Then when you get the Nidoran fight Pokemon in Pewter city or in Viridian Forest . Soon you will learn horn attack . If you want to try that against brock the go ahead it won't do much good . I suggest keep on fighting pokemon until you learn double kick . It still may be hard to defeat BROCK but stock up on Potions . Then you will be sure to defeat him . O by the way you cant leave Pewter city to go on to MT.Moon because a person is blocking the way . But when you defeat Brock the person is gone.when you go on to Mt . Moon a guy will try to sell a Magikarp for 500 $ . Don't buy it . You can fish for one in Vermilion city . You should buy Poke Balls in Pewter City before you leave . Be sure to get your Pokemon fighting fit in the Pokecenter . Then when you go into Mt.Moon you can find a Tm ( Technical Machine ) the TM contains Bubblebeam . Teach this to your Nidoran . Then he can take on all the Geododes in the place . Be sure to capture a Geodude . They are really good against Raichu in Vermillion City . And the Pikachu you got during the begining of the game will help you against Misty ( water Pokemon ) . Also when you reach the end of Mt.Moon there is a guy . Battle him and he will give you a choice between 2 Rare Fossils . And one more thing try to capture a Zubat . There Supersonic is a Very powerful move.Usually one blast from Pikachu can parlyize it.And also search the long grass outside of MT.MOON to find a Jigglypuff . You want to get awakening potions before you try to take him on . His sing can make you fall asleep . Have fun !

        • 026 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) These are some great things about Yellow : 1 : You can get all of the 3 starting Poke'mon . 2 : You can get a Machoke from an in-game trade , but it evoloves to a Machamp after you trade with a girl in Route 5 3 : Dragoniar , Pidgeiotto and Venomoth are some of the wild poke'mon you'll find . 4 : Cathing both Scyther and Pinsir or Arcainine and Ninetales will be a snap . Bad things about Yellow : 1 : 13 Poke'mon you'll have to trade from Red or Blue . 2 : Gym leader's poke'mon are at higher levels . 3 : Barely there is any poision types that are wild . 4 : Not much In-game trading . Overall : 4 and a half stars

        • 028 4  About a year ago , I too was drawn into the Pokemon fad . I played Pokemon Red a little bit when one of my friends came over . I enjoyed it , but it seemed a bit complicated . I finally got version yellow . The hardest part of the game is at the beginning . ( But I won't tell you why evil laugh > > : ) . ) Anyways , once you get past that part , the rest is of average difficulty for a game . Graphics are par for the GBC , and the battle scenes are cool . Sound is great , and the amount of different sounds puts me in awe . Now that I'm over the Pokemon craze , I see that it is not quite a five-star game , but still worth four stars .
        • 029 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) If you can't decide what version to buy , get the latest version , yellow . In this game , you don't get bulbasaur , squirtle , or charmander at first , but you get sweet lil ' pikachu . And , instead of the strong element against your element pokemon , your rival gets an Eevee , which eveloutions will vary depending on your actions . The cool thing about pikachu is like in the TV show , he won't get in his poke ball , so you can talk to him and see how he's doing . If you keep him happy , good things could happen . . . If you want full enjoyment of the game , keep pika in your party at all times . Sometimes , Pikachu will do some interesting things . Take this for an example : when you enter the poke club for the first time , pika chu will get the love bug with a guys clefairy . The music and areas stay the same , but there are all new animations for the pokemon , plus we get to see jesse and james and a cool new surfing game , which you need a surfing pikachu for . If you didn't win nintendo powers contest , there's a way to get one in stadium . And the best part is ( drum roll ) you can get squirtle charmander and bulbasaur without having to go through that loooooong trading deal . This is an amesome game , buy it , your money won't be wasted .

        • 031 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) ( By Oliver Ford Age 11 ) I think Poke'mon Yellow is an amazing game even though it doesn't have very many new features compared to Blue Red . The graphic on Yellow are a 100% improvement on Blue Red.The pokemon pictures are new but the routes are all the same until you reach the unknown dungeon which has totally changed . Pokemon that you could only get by trading with other trainers on Red Blue you can now catch in the wild . However , there are 8 that you need to trade with your friends using a link cable . The Gym leaders use totally different Pokemon , but beware in Yellow they use less Pokemon but they are more likely to be higer levels and better trained ( in their attacks ) . I would recommend the game to anyone and if you haven't already got Blue or Red , then go straight for Yellow and enjoy !

        • 033 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Okay , let me admit something : I am 17 , a senior in high school ( edit : 18 and a freshman in college ) , and I still play Pokemon . Why ? The games are horribly addicting . . . and this one is no exception . You start out with Pikachu and go throughout the same world as the previous games , catching all the Pokemon - still fun . The Pikachu's Beach mini-game is cool . One other thing : Pikachu's voice acting gets repetitive after the first time you hear it , so turn the volume down . Pokemon is an awesome series , and I will continue to be a loyal fan - no matter how old I am . This game is my personal favorite for the Game Boy system . A high recommendation . PS It's anime . . . in case you haven't figured it out yet .

        • 035 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Don't abandon your Gameboy Color just yet ! I got this game in 1998 when I was eight-years-old and almost eight years later , it is still one of my favorite games . Definitely a must have for all ages !
        • 040 4  In this version of Pokemon , you start off with Pikachu and all the rest of it . I think it's better than the other versions in some ways because it has colour and that mini game , Pikachu's Beach . That's kind of dumb because you can only get a Surfing Pikachu with cheats if you live outside of a major country like Australia or America , where they have tournaments for Surfing Pikachu . If you live somewhere else , like where I'm typing this note , New Zealand , you have to resort to cheats . On the subject of Cheats you can't do any of them . I've tried . Most people think that it's a bad idea to buy it if you have already got Blue or Red , I don't think it is because : 1 : It has colour 2 : It has better graphics than R B 3 : It follows the cartoon better . And it can be a relief to those who own Silver or Gold because it's not like you're having to get back down to the ( * * ( $ # graphics in Red and Blue version . BUY IT !
        • 041 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Well , basically , this game is halfway like blue and red but , it is more fun and has better graphics .
        • 045 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Good game I thought some of the graphic's were a little tacky for my taste although the funny part is they say this game is for the original Game Boy but when you play the game the background like houses and the ocean and people the graphics really suck major but when you get into a pokemon battle with another trainer and you see both pokemon their both in crystal clear color which is really weird because this game is suppose to be for the GB not GBC so go figure I just thought that was pretty interesting that only the pokemon would come in color who knows maybe that's why they said on the front Special Pikachu Edition on the game boy cartridge but I will admit this game with out a dout in my mind is extremely to long but a very interesting game good for very long road trips defently Oh and remember if your going on a long road trip and you take your GBA SP remember to take the car charger with you for that sort of thing or the easy way take the Original GBA and just buy double AA batteries when you need them I wouldn't really recommend taking the GBA SP on long road trip just because when you plug in the car charger you can't listen to the radio while the car charger is in I found that out the hard way 1 time I plugged in the car charger but then it some how wouldn't let me listen to the radio . So buy this game if you have a roadtrip coming up and you get bored in the car very easily or if you just need something to do or just get bored any where . If you have an extremely short attention span do not get this game you will get bored with it really quickly and then want to trade it in and it is a little bit of a frustrating game at times so if you can't take frustration don't get this game either . I would recommend this game for anyone 10 years of age or older .
        • 047 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I purchased this game as a request from my son Storm . He had the game before and really enjoyed it . He is VERY happy to get another and that it arrived so quickly
        • 053 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Being an owner of Pokemon Red , I had hoped that there would be more to Pokemon Yellow . Okay , it's great what they've done to the Pokedex and I love how they changed the storyline to be closer to the TV show , but . . . it's the same ! Also , I had hoped that you could choose to be a guy or girl ( of course that was a rumour . . . ) and you have to have . . . Pikachu . It's cute for a while , but unlike many others , I am not a Pikachu fan . If you could choose between it and some other well-liked Pokemon , that would be okay , but I'm afraid Pikachu isn't that useful ( At least if I had Bulbasaur I could defeat Brock instead of having to get more Pokemon faster ) . Also , in order to do the special battles , you have to have a friend with Pokemon Yellow . My friend has Blue ( it didn't work ) . No offense to anyone who loved the game ( and there seems to be a lot ) , but I only recommend this game to new-comers and die-hard Pikachu fans .

        • 061 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) This is the first Pokemon game I have ever played , and I still think it's fun . It's also very unique . It's unique in that you start out with Pikachu and get all three starters . In the beginning Gary steals Eevee , but that doesn't really matter since you get Eevee later on in Celadon anyway . Pikachu fans will love this game , since Pikachu talks to you . This is the first game ever to have the concept of Pokemon tameness . For Pikachu haters , they will still like this game because you get the other three starters and the graphics are a smidge better than Red and Blue ( the Pokemon and trainer sprites were changed a little , and there's more color ) , and it's not like you HAVE to train Pikachu . There's also a surfing mini-game , but I personally have never played it . The game isn't hard , either . It's actually pretty easy ; even Brock is easy to beat . Just train up a Butterfree so you can use Confusion . There's also the Nidorans with Double Kick ( level 12 ) and Mankey with Low Kick ( level 9 ) . Anyway , it's lots of fun .
        • 062 4  This is the first Pokemon game I have ever played , and I still think it's fun . It's also very unique . It's unique in that you start out with Pikachu and get all three starters . • 063 4  I am a big fan with pokemon . I own the red , blue , and yellow versions . But this is one of the best games I ever played . It is sometimes a drag when you see Pikachu following you but other than that it is a good game . I have fun battling with my friends . Sometimes I win and sometimes I don't win . I think this game can be educational because it teaches kids how to use maps and what other kids would do to buy things at the PokeMart . I think that the pictures of the pokemon look better than the pictures in Red and Blue . It's sad that you can't do the MissingNo . trick in the Yellow Version , but that's the way it is . You can't cheat all of the time you know . The game gets pretty long and boring sometimes when you've captured Mewtwo and beaten the Pokemon League , but that's the way it is . Since in my Red and Blue versions have the MissingNo . trick , I always use rare candies on my Pokemon than trying to train them . But as I said before you can't do the trick in the Yellow Version because MissingNo . has been deleted . This is all of the information I have , but if you want some more information go to www.pojo.com . They got a lot more information there . Have fun with your game ! !
        • 064 4  Pokemon Yellow is basically the same game as Red and Blue . Starting with Pikachu makes the game more difficult , especially at the start . Considering that Pikachu is not a very strong Pokemon , and that you can catch him early on in the older games ( look in Viridian Forest ) , I don't think this is a very useful feature . It could appeal to younger kids who like Pikachu from the cartoons , I suppose . You can catch all three of the starting Pokemon from Red and Blue in this game , but there are better pokemon out there . If you are going for all 150 , I guess this would be the game to get , though . Once you defeat the first gym leader , the game is actually slightly easier than Red and Blue . In conclusion , I really don't think Yellow is worth it for experienced Pokemon fans . If you are just starting out , however , you might want to consider it .
        • 067 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) This is a game of high stratergy and tacticts more than adventure or action . You start off in pallet town with your Pikachu ( just like the show ) where you pass back and fourth a few times and eventually start training your pokemon. The whole game This game is based on fighting and training your pokemon by either battling wild or trainers pokemon. You also have to fill in your pokedex after you have battled and won against all the gym leaders.Eventually you battle the pokemon leage to win the right to enter Cereulean Cave where Mewtwo is.When you have finished this it gets a bit boring and you have the endless task of catching all of the pokemon which involves trading with other versions ( which is a bit hard to do if you don't have a link cable ) . Eventually you finish the game and get the title of Pokemon Master .

        • 069 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I think that this game was fun but a little repetative it was cool with the changes but since the plot and place were the same as the original ( red blue ) it got boring .
        • 071 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Yellow Verson is really cool .
        • 073 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I finally let my curiosity take over and ordered a copy of Pokemon Yellow , my first ever console game . With all the marketing hype , I didn't expect too much , but I have to say I am pleasantly surprised ! The goal of the game is to capture all Pokemon . To do this , you travel through a ( huge ) gameworld , exploring , collecting goodies , and catching wild Pokemon . As your Pokemon gain strength , you can fight other trainers . Your creatures gain experience with every fight . This way , they grow in level , becoming stronger and learning new moves . Some of them evolve into new creatures . There are several types of Pokemon , turning this into a very complicated version of the rock-scissors-paper game . Fire Pokemon are good against Grass Pokemon but not against Water Pokemon , etc . This is a very addictive game ! It's fun to see your Pokemon grow and explore the game-world . Conclusion : great fun ! Ignore the marketing machine and just enjoy it !

        • 075 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) This is a great game ! GREAT BUY !
        • 077 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) This is the best Pokemon version yet ! It's almost just like the show Pokemon . You get to battle Jessie and James ( with their trademark pokemon ) . And battling other players with a link cable in the Colleseum2 mode is totally awesome ! And even better yet you get squirtle , charmander , and bulbasaur in the game too ! And just like in the show Pikachu follows you around . ( But the only set back is like in the show Pikachu doesn't evolve ) . With different enemy encounters and improvements in the game ( for instance in red and blue Charizard is part flying and couldn't learn fly . In yellow he can ! ) So if you liked the red and blue versions , you'll love the new and improved yellow version !
        • 082 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokemon Yellow is my best game yet ! It's a challenging game , with 8 awesome gym leaders , your rival , ( You can name him in the begining of the game ) and Prof.Oak ! ( who will give you a bulbasaur , charmander , or squirtle at the start ) All of this put together makes one mind-blowing game !

        • 088 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I have played this game .
        • 092 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) When I first got this game I thought it was the best game ever , but after you beat it 2 or 3 times it gets very boring . If you want a game that will keep your attention I suggest Dragon Warrior Monsters , but if you're completely set on Pokemon then go with yellow version , It has better color than red or blue versions .
        • 094 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) If you like strategic games that are long and fun get this one. Each time you play it you encounter new Pokemon making even more fun. Also my friends and I also battle each other with our gameboys .
        • 100 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I thought this game was really fun . The basic rules are the same , but the graphics are better , but Pikachu follows you around . You can even talk to him . If you dont have Red or Blue , you should buy this .
        • 102 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokemon Yellow is about the same as Blue and Red but yellow can be played in color , Jesse and James are featured , gym leaders have stronger pokemons , the pokemons look differet , and they're more two player options . If you already have blue or red , then I don't recommend you wasting your money on it ( like me ) and because pokemon gold and silver is coming out . The game has the same story line as blue or red but it follows the T.V . show closer than both of those . You start off with Pikachu and Gary has Eevee . Everything else other than that are the same as blue and red . So if you have blue or red , than I recommend you saving your money for Pokemon Stadium , Silver , and Gold . But if you don't have blue or red than Pokemon Yellow is a must have .

        • 104 4  Pokemon yellow is an okay game. Its not a good as Pokemon Red or Blue cause 1 . It really dosn't matter if pikachu follows you around ( I'm not a fan of pikachu ) 2 . Pikachu is the only one who says its name ( it says Pika ! ) Isn't that kinda unfair. All the other Pokemon just make sounds .3 . You really can't beat the game unless you have Red or Blue.WHY ? You can't get Meowth , , Magmar , Ekans , , Electabuzz , Weedle , Koffing , and Jynx.Dosn't that create problems .4 . Pikachu dosn't evolve. As hard as you try Pikachu will NOT evolve.Raichu ( his evolved form ) is a very strong pokemon.Skip it and get Red or Blue .
        • 105 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) This game is pretty much the same as the Red and Blue versions ( and the Green version if you live in Japan ) . However , if you're a Pikachu fan , you will enjoy it anyway . If you want something different , you'll have to wait till Gold and Silver come out in the US .

        • 107 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) ok this is one great pokemon game pokemon is the only thing that me and my friends have ever gotten into not this yugioh or digimon pokemon is the best because it has the easiest concept to level up beat the game and catch'em all nbow the pikachu feature i like becasue pikachu is soooooooooo cute but i wish you could play as a because you couldnt do that until crystal and about the mini game its great but very hard to get to play but when you can its totally worth it plus all the pokemon look like they shoud in the show so thats a plus no more missingno . but that was stupid because i never used it anyway and its a cheap way to beat the game but i did use missingno . and pokemon stadium to transfer rare candies from red and blue to yellow so i could win at prime cup and actually get the mini game so yeah its a good game
        • 109 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) The game is original which makes it interesting but could use some more gadgets.Over all the game rocks and so do the pokemon like Pikachu .
        • 113 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I gave this game only 4 stars because it was basically a copy of Pokemon red and blue . It was very good , but all the Pokemon games could be better . I liked it because when you beat the game , you beat it fair , unlike in Pokemon blue and red because in those games you can clone rare candies , masterballs , nuggets , etc .
        • 115 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I think that this follows the TV Series more than any other one because Pikachu follows you around . They make the game hard at the beginning because lightning is weak against rock and Brock's Pokemon are rock . After that you have to beat several more gym leaders then the Elite Four .
        • 117 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I like it ! If you don't have Blue or Red versions , it's a great Pokemon game ! New looks in Pokemon , the Unknown Dungeon , and a few other trainers are excellent ! My favorite part of it all is seeing Pikachu's different moods . Other than not having Missingno ( the item duplicating blob of blurred graphics ) it's the best of them all !
        • 119 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Every Pokemon fanatic has to love Pikachu . On Red Blue you choose three other Pokemon than Pikachu and got hard . On this you get the three by doing something special . Pikachu talks on Game Boy . If you have a Game Boy Color it adds some color ! Pokemon on Yellow look different than Red Blue . You still have to trade with Red Blue to collect ' em all !
        • 121 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I got into watching Pokemon with my son . From the show , I had picked up the cards . It wasn't until one of my cousin's kids had the video game ( Pokemon Blue ) did I see where all this originated . After one weekend of helping him play , I had to go out and pick up a Gameboy for myself . I opted for Pokemon Yellow ( since Red , Blue and Yellow ) all basically play the same . After one week , I've clocked in over 19 hours ( by the game clock ) and have collected over 28 pokemon and seen over 56 of the 150 . The St . Anne just set sail and I have a looooong way to go until Victory Road ! If you are looking for a game that you'll get a lot of mileage out of and bang for the buck , this certainly qualifies !

        • 125 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Where do I begin ? Pokemon Yellow was my introduction to the world of pokemon and I LOVED it . It is similar to the first two games but the idea of being followed around by a pikachu lets face it is adorable ! When I was younger I watched the cartoon and by making this game similar to the cartoon made me want to play more , in short , I wanted to be Ash . The game offers different screen colours while pokemon red and blue only offered the one . You also have a chance to get the 3 starting pokemon of red and blue which I found fantastic ! I enjoyed yellow for its little quirks and the addictive gameplay they just don't make pokemon games like it anymore it got me hooked to pokemon and I enjoyed how it was a little bit more difficult than the first games . Buy it and you will love it !

        • 130 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokemon has a horrible reputation . The TV show is filled with anoying voices and drives anyone out of the 5th grade mad . When it reached its peak you couldn't go anywhere without seeing Pokemon and little kids wanting to get all of the collecting cards even though no one really played with them . Despite this I have to admit that I love this classic game . When I was little I bought some other Pokemon games ( I don't buy them now ) but nothing tops this one . The good side to Pokemon : Special Pikachu Edition is that it is a really adicting game . Even after you finish you'll want to replay it a different way . There are endless possibilities . The game's plot is smart and you travel to endless places . Also , the game has heart . You can't help but love Pikachu and some of the charactors . This game follows very close to the old cartoon so fans will like that . The bad side is that some things haven't aged well . While I personally find it charming and cute some people might get annoyed by the background music . Sometimes you may get sick of battling trainers over and over again . Another thing is that the animation isn't that great but guess what ? I actually like it that way . It brings back good memories . In conclusion , this is one of my all time favorite video games and by far the best Gameboy game I've ever gotten . While I'm not a Pokemon fan like I use to be I'll still admit that I like to play this . I'd highly reccomed this along with Pokemon : Silver and Gold which almost reaches Yellow ' s brilliance .

They're extensions of the other two in their generation , the same game with stuff added . However , this is still a great game . You start with a Pikachu , and you cannot evolve it . However , you can obtain the other three starters . Your rival Green owns a Eeeve . This game is based off the anime . However , your character Red is not Ash / Satoshi , and your rival Blue ( Green in Japan and NA games after the second generation ) is not Gary . Still , expect many similar things , such as Nurse Joys .

        • 151 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) This was the best experience of purchasing something online for me .
        • 153 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Special Pikachu addition of pokemon that came out way before gameboy color hit the shelves . Plays just as the original gameboy games , however unlike other reviews there is is something missing . Remember that special pikachu surfing event ? Well you can't get that ingame . That's right , meaning you would have to call nintendo and take it up to them for them to install the hardware into the game ! What a money-milker . Very disappointing as a child , as I have wanted to play that game specifically for that purpose and the ability to catch mew . This is as close to the series for the original 3 , so if your into collecting these , get the yellow version . Interacting with pikachu is cute , but be warned how his mood changes can affect battles if you use him . . . And it seems that they have taken out the Indingo pokemon , or virus it seems . It was said catching this pokemon ( which was literally nothing more than a scrambled block with two eyes on it that make a polygon noise ) would erase the save data on the game ! I don't recall running into this pokemon , that can be found in the sea near the island . This game is old , so don't pay more than a reasonable used price .

        • 160 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) As has been done in other Pokemon versions ( Gold / Silver then Crystal ) , Yellow tops off the two other Gameboy versions nicely ( Red / Blue ) . In addition to having Pikachu as your constant companion , the additional changes , though subtle , will have you taking up the quest yet again to catch ' em all . Although the graphics outside of battle are lackluster , inside a battle between two Pokemon show off the graphical enhancements nicely . Pikachu's mood meter will have you attempting to please the little guy so you can obtain the best results in certain areas . Since this follows the TV show ( early in it's career ) , fans of that show might enjoy this version more than the average Pokemaniac . A slight improvement over the original two , any Pokemon fan would be welcome to add this to their collection . Pros : Pikachu's here , and he won't stay in his ball ! Slight graphics improvement during battles It follows the TV show closer than the original two games Cons : Same old , same old Pokemon game . Only slight differences Graphics are sub-par when travelling the world of Pokemon Overall : This game rates high with me personally , since I am a fan of Pikachu and Pokemon in general . This game is great for the Pokemon collector to obtain and add to his or her library . Not to be missed , especially at these prices . Warning , though : You might not be able to obtain a complete copy of this game anymore without shelling out some serious bucks .

        • 162 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I am old school when it comes to Pokemon and this is one of the best of the original three games . The controls and goal are the same as in Red and Blue with a few new features such as Pikachu following you and being able to check its mood and the introduction of Team Rocket's Jesse and James .
        • 168 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) this game is very nice . i prefer saphire and ruby now , but since fire red and leaf green are comming out then get those . those are remake versions of red , green , blue , and yellow with all the pokemon .
        • 170 4  1 . If all you have is a gameboy pocket ( available from amazon ) this is one of the best games you can own . Even on gameboy color , this game is a great adition . I own a GBA SP and yet im still gonna buy blue , yellow , and silver . I was gonna get red , but when yellow finnally became availiable , red went out of stock . Now im getting blue because i dont have a game from that set , and silver to complete that set . But back to the point . The reason i like yellow is not because of the graphics or the sound effects , but i like that he follows you around and enables you to get all 3 starter pokemon too ! wow 4 / 6ths of your team already . Sure , you cant trade to any of the newest versions , but if you trade with g / s and r / b you can get some great teams . So buy it if you want a pretty good game for a low price .
        • 171 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) After Blue and Red came out Yellow came out in 1999 . Heres the cool things in this game . Jesse and James appear with thier same pokemon . New Pokemon looks . Color ! ! ! Pickachu follows you and you get to talk to him . Print pictures out . Bad things about 10 pokemon are missing . Practically after 10 steps you run into a pokemon . Overall this is a cool game but Sapphire is much better . Can't wait until Fire Red and Leaf Green comes out . I've already reseved my copy at Toys R Us .

        • 175 4  My 8 - year-old loves this . Says it's even better then Red and Blue . And if you're worried about video game time taking away from reading time , make sure you get your kid ( s ) into roleplaying games . That way , they get both . . . and though Pokemon won't solve it all . . . you'll never have to nag them to go play Pokemon !
        • 192 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I enjoyed this game enough to give it five stars . On vacations I can't get enough of it . I can wear out the batteries in under two hours playing this great game for everyone . If Pokemon Red , Yellow , and Blue are good , Silver and Gold have to be GREAT !
        • 194 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) I think pokemon yellow is a really good game it is better than the other versions , it is more like the television proggramme because you meet Jesse and James . I recommend pokemon yellow for pokemon fans it is a great game it will not take you too long to finish . I reccomend that you buy it .

        • 198 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) The Pokemon Yellow version is an incredible game . The big problem is that there are barely any people playing the old gameboy color versions like red , blue and green . To get all 150 pokemon in this game you need to trade with other players . I did think that the game has a great story line though ( that is for a pokemon game . The story lines are pretty limited ) with the path of the trainer Ash in the cartoons ( Don't get me wrong . The cartoons are pretty terrible . If you like the cartoon , the game would be even better ) . The game has a great number of ways to play . It also takes a large amount of time to beat . The new Gameboy Advance pokemon games are beatable in several hours . The yellow version took me 45 hours to beat . I hope this revew was helpful to you . I would recommend the game over almost all other gameboy color games .

        • 206 4  I believe Pokemon Red and Blue were in the top 5 for best games ever for the beloved GBC . I remember getting the Red version when it came out and I remember being floored by the depth and involvement in the game . The beautiful world to explore truly made the experience interesting while keeping simplicity as the key factor . ( As to not confuse younger kids ) . The only new features to Yellow Version are a few graphical changes to Pokemon during battles and the addition of the cartoon characters from the TV series , Jesse James from Team Rocket . If you already own Red or Blue then avoid Yellow and buy Gold or Silver .
        • 207 4  This game has advances far more than the two previous releases of red and blue version . This Game's plot and character animation is different from red and blue and it's also fun to play .

        • 214 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) This game is to much like Red and Blue version to me . It establishes that you just have to buy all the games . If you already have Red or Blue this is a waste of money although it is okay I guess . Plus you can't do codes on it . It's not true that all the pokemon are installed on this game like people say .
        • 216 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokemon Crystal is the best . Altough you can get Lugia easy you have to get all the legendary dogs if you want Ho-OH . There are a lot of things that Crystal has that Silver and Gold don't . Some are : you can get Suicine a whole lot easier , Battle tower . Get Dana Lass's , Alan Schoolboy's , Tully Fisher's , and Gina Pickiner's phone numbers and you can get all the evolution stones you'll need .

        • 222 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokemon Yellow is a sad disappointment . Very little is added , other than Pikachu follows you around . The Japanese version is far better . Much worse , Gold and Silver were released several months ago ( and are far better , I know , I have them ) . This is a game to wait on . Gold and Silver feature a twice as large map and dozens more Pokemon . Alas , I don't speak Japanese so the game is a little hard for me .

        • 224 4  I gave me this game since he is has and is playing Pokemon Red Version . I started playing this game . I was addicted . After I got Mewtwo , got everyone on my team ( Alakazam , Mewtwo , Venasaur , Dragonite and Pidgeot ) to the highest lever you can get them to ( level 100 ) ( yes , you can deposit Pikachu ) , caught 121 different Pokemon , beaten the Elite four and Gary a million times , got the TM for Hyper Beam and tought it to about everyone , this game became super boring and it is somewhere on my desk covered with dust . You can not evolve Pikachu to Raichu .
        • 227 4  Hello , I wanted to say that this game is cool , but if you don't have red or blue don't get yellow ' till you do . Red and blue have the same pokemon and almost the same features , but are a little more fun to play and more simplistic .
        • 229 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) OK , this is like a role playing game for kids .

        • 231 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Yet so far this is the best pokemon game there is . It has some of the some pokemon as the red and blue but has some wild ones that could only be traded for in red and blue like farfetched and tangeler . in the yellow version it also has picachu to tell you when you are being a good trained and when you are not .
        • 233 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) It is just like pokemon blue and red . It has the same adventures . And is very exciting . This time you start out with Pikachu .
        • 237 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Throughout its time in Japan and America ( not to mention other places ) , Pokemon has taken the gaming industry by storm . No one thought that these little creatures could be such a market , especially to kids around the world who lead completely different lives . Evidently , though , Pokemon has gained popularity beyond belief , and it continues its legacy with the long anticipated Pokemon Yellow . Now , for all of those people who are going What the heck are Pokemon ? - Don't worry , you're not alone . Many people are still catching up , trying to figure out just what is going on with these Japanese monsters . Well , let me give you a brief description : In Pokemon , you travel around a fantasy land , catching small creatures called Pokemon . These captured creatures are stored in Poke Balls , which are mini-storage facilities . You use your already caught Pokemon to catch more Pokemon , and also to battle rival trainers . Your ultimate goal is to catch all 150 ( soon over 250 ) Pokemon creatures , and train your Pokemon well enough that you can beat every other trainer in the Pokemon battling league . Still confused ? I can't really make it too much easier . . . if you are still wondering what's going on , ask a kid , whether it be your own or just someone's kid you know , and I'd bet they'd be happy to explain it in more detail to you . Now , to explain this Yellow game , you need to know a little history . You need to know that originally there were only 2 Pokemon games , Titled the Red and Blue Versions . You could catch most Pokemon in each game , but since the Pokemon you couldn't catch differed in each game , you had to trade with someone who had the other game to get all of the Pokemon . Yellow is the newest of these games . Yellow doesn't provide any new Pokemon to catch ( it only has a mix of the Pokemon from Red and Blue ) , but it does have many differences . The main difference is that this game is easier ( slightly ) - it is meant to be a way to introduce Pokemon fans who haven't played the game to it . Many kids have only seen the TV show , so in Pokemon Yellow , the Pokemon and the human characters look much more like they do in the animated series . Also , since Pikachu is so popular among fans , in this version he refuses to be stored in a Poke Ball , and follows you around . ( Not to mention the opening scenes , starring Pikachu ) All in all , if you're a parent with kids who don't already have a Pokemon game , but they've been begging you for one , this is a good introduction . However , it they already have the Red and Blue versions , this won't necessarily be of any use . ( That is , unless they are die-hard fans , who must have it ) . If you are a young person looking into buying this game , make sure that you really want it - it might be a waste if you already have the other versions .

        • 242 4  This game is really pretty fun . For the first 45 hours . Then it just starts to get a liiittle boring . I mean , how long can you go before you start to get sick of blacking out and listening to the other trainers idiotic comments which really don't apply to the game ? I got this game in July . I'm still playing . Ok , so maybe I'm not the most fabulous gamer in the world , but I'm not that bad . If you love pokemon and have a good attention span , buy this game . If not , don't bother . P.S - If you're a girl , prepare yourself for lots of annoying little digs from the girl trainers ( Oh , I broke a nail , Oh no , I messed up my hair , Oh no , I have absolutly no personality or life , ect . ect . ) .

        • 043 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) What an interesting variation ! In Pok。Mon yellow you have the option of starting the game with the lovable Pikachu . Also , there are many small variations in the game which make it easier for the younger player . As well as that , you will face Jessie and James at regular intervals in the game . Besides these variations Pok。Mon yellow is the exact same game as Pok。Mon red or blue . Don't buy this game if you already have either and don't buy it if you enjoy a challenge .

        • 244 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokemon blue , red , and yellow are almost the same . Except mybe blue version has 1 or 2 more po。èmon than red , or vice-versa , but yellow , u can tell the difference . Number one - - there's actually a little bit of color when u play it on Game Boy Color system . Number two - - Pikachu follows u around the stages instead of carrying him in a po。èball.Number three - - Pikachu says his name instead of doing all those annoying noises , but all the other po。èmon still do though . Also , drawings of the po。èmon get better also .

      • Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokemon Yellow is an upgraded version of Pokemon Red and Blue , and it's really good , being a Pokemon game . Unfortunately , it is somewhat underappreciated , like most Game Boy Color games . And the graphics are somewhat crude , but it doesn't detract from the game at all . In this game , you automatically start out with Pikachu , instead of choosing between Bulbasaur , Charmander and Squirtle , and your rival gets Eevee . The game plays out exactly like Red and Blue , except for a few things , such as Jessie and James showing up a few times . ( Unfortunately , they only show up a limited number of times , which is a bit of a letdown if you ask me . ) And the Pokemon have been redesigned to look more like they do on the TV show . Here are the pros and cons of this game . Pros : Pikachu says its name instead of making a sneezing noise . I really liked this , even though the voice clips aren't of particularly good quality . ( Some find this annoying , but I don't . ) Also , Pikachu follows you around instead of staying in its Pokeball , and you can see what kind of mood it's in if you turn around to face it and press A . As you get to know Pikachu , it will get to like you more and more . ( I've been playing my current game for an estimated three or four years now , and Pikachu now has little hearts flying around his head . ) However , it gets ticked off with you if you put it in the PC or let it faint . You can get Bulbasaur , Charmander AND Squirtle - - at different points in the game . There's a mini-game in this game called Pikachu's Beach . If you have a Pikachu that knows Surf , you can play it . Unfortunately , you can only teach Pikachu Surf through a complicated method involving Pokemon Stadium and the Transfer Pak . Or , if you prefer , you can use a cheating device . ( I do NOT recommend the latter , however , because cheating devices can mess up things on your game . ) Cons : You can't play as a girl . It's really hard defeating Brock ( the first gym leader ) , because Pikachu has a glaring weakness against Rock and Ground-type Pokemon . This is just a personal thing , but I really don't like the plot involving Lavender Tower ( having to go and calm the ghost of a dead Marowak ) . Of course , no Pokemon actually die in the game ( if defeated in battle , they just faint ) , but this part of the game is still rather unsettling . It also might bother some younger or more sensitive players . The item pack is really hard to navigate through ( it's hard to find things in there ) . Fortunately , this is improved in Gold / Silver / Crystal . Some parts of the game are really ridiculously hard - - but , really , that holds true for almost all video games . You can't battle trainers over again , except for the Elite Four , so it becomes hard to level up your Pokemon after awhile . And after you capture Mewtwo , there really isn't very much more to do in the game , except try to get all 151 Pokemon . Fortunately , all of this is improved in Pokemon Gold / Silver / Crystal . In conclusion , Pokemon Yellow is awfully good , even if it's out of print , like so many other Game Boy Color games that shouldn't be . But if you'd prefer better graphics , then I'd recommend Pokemon Crystal .
        • 003 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokémon Yellow is a great game ! It has BETTER pics , BETTER Pokédex data , and DIFFERENT attacks for Pokémon ( including a new psychic attack called KINESIS ) ! You can get Squirtle , Bulbasaur , and Charmander ( a.k.a . the starters ) . You start off with a Pikachu and Gary begins with an Eevee . I don't care if you already have any other version , THIS IS A BEST BUY !

        • 016 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) First of all , I would like to point out that I'm way over the 5 - 12 age average for pokémon , but I just can't refuse a good game when I see one . The pokémon rage has dominated the games market by using the same urge to collect technique that powered other rages like Magic cards and Pogs . Unlike the previous two , pokémon has managed to sustain its popularity through toys , cards , a feature-length movie and a top-rated cartoon . It's this specific cartoon that pokémon yellow is based on . If you're already familiar with the red blue versions , the first thing you will have noticed in yellow is that you begin with Pikachu as your starting pokémon , just like in the cartoon , and he follows you around everywhere . The best thing about this is that you can check his attitude from time to time and he ACTUALLY SAYS HIS NAME ! Even though there's a bit of static , the fact that you can create sound like this on a gameboy is a remarkable achievement ! Even more surprising is that there are at least twenty different ways Pikachu can say his name whether he's happy , sad , scared , confused , poisoned , etc . etc . Another difference to this version is that all the pokémon have been re-drawn to look exactly like they did in the cartoon and the pokédex data has been changed . Jessie and James also make a guest appearence a few times ( too few in fact ) and recite their horribly corny motto as they attack you with Ekans / Arbok , Koffing / Weezing , and Meowth . Other nice touches are that Brock and Misty have also been re-drawn too look like the cartoon and the other gym leaders have different pokémon . Also , the yellow version sports an excellent Surfing Pikachu mini-game which can only be reached if you own Pokémon Stadium ( or a Gameshark ) . The unknown dungeon has been redesigned and the pokémon present in this version are different from red blue . You can even get Bulbasaur , Charmander and Squirtle all at once ! Now the downside to this version is that the replay value has been diminished a little because you ALWAYS start off with Pikachu instead of having the choice between three pokémon . Gary is also stuck with Eevee ( which evolves into Jolteon ) for the entire game , so there's a little less variety in gameplay . Plus , the infamous Missingno . pokémon has sadly been removed preventing you from duplicating rare candies a hundred fold . But if you don't mind playing pokémon the honest way , then this isn't much of a problem . Now the question is , do you really want this game if you already own the red and / or blue versions ? If you do , the minor changes to this version probably aren't enough to justify the purchase as it's basically the same game . Instead , you should really save your money for the gold / silver versions this Fall . If you don't already own red or blue , then this game is a must-have as it's the best of the three ! Besides , where else can you get Oddish and Bellsprout in the same game ?

        • 037 4  If you're going to buy one of the three , I would recommend this one . Even if you have played Red or Blue , I would still buy it , if you want to play another Pokemon game ( also consider Gold , Silver , Crystal , of course ) . Yellow doesn't enjoy some of the upgrades that G / S have , but it does have its advantages . You start out with Pikachu , and Pikachu follows you everywhere unless it is fainted or you don't have it with you ( but that's not a good idea because it hates being in the computer ) . You can talk to Pikachu to check on its mood , and it will vocalize . So if you like Pikachu , this is the version for you . In other games , you can't catch Pikachu very early in the game . When I first played another version , it was very odd not to have Pikachu following me around . Anyway , another advantage of Yellow is that you can obtain all THREE of the Red / Blue starter pokemon in a single game , without trading or resetting in any way . Just make sure Pikachu is happy and people will give them to you along the way . Also , the graphics in this game are much better in my opinion than the graphics in R / B . The graphics were probably influenced by the anime , as the storyline was in regards to Pikachu , Bulbasaur , Charmander , and Squirtle . It is a great improvement in my opinion . Summary : Get Pikachu fast , it talks , it looks cute . Get all the starter Pokemon without resetting or trading . Better graphics than Red or Blue .

        • 050 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) What makes this game slightly more fun than Pok'emon Blue , and Red versions , is that not only does your Pikachu follow you around OUTSIDE of its Poke ball , but you can get Bulbasaur , Charmander , and Squirtle without having to trade with your friends ! Most people are into the newer Pok'emon games now , but I personally think the older Pok'emon games are much easier , especially because there are WAY less Pok'emon to catch . Overall , I'd say this is a very good game .

        • 065 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) This is the first Game Boy game I bought and it is one of my favorites . You might think that when you beat the Elite Four , there's nothing left to do . Not true ! Chances are you will have a huge selection of un-evolved Pokemon that you can work with to expand your Poke-dex ( an electronic encylopedia of Pokemon data ) to improve your game rating . Although the pace of the game is a little slower once you have beaten all the Gym Leaders , it is still fun to train new Pokemon and watch them evolve . And now to the disapointing aspects of the game : 1 ) You can't be a girl . Although you are told you are ' Ash Ketchum ' you can re-name your character , but you can't change his gender . 2 ) Pikachu won't evolve , and as far as I know , you can't catch wild Pikachu on this version . You will have to trade with another version for an evolve-able Pikachu . 3 ) Although you can get Bulbasaur , Squirtle AND Charmander ( unlike the other versions ) you only get one Eevee ( a Pokemon that can evolve in three different options ) . All in all it is a very fun game . Another fun option is that you can nickname your captured Pokemon . I nicknamed my Machop Atlas , and my Seaking Neptune . I would not recommend it for children who can't read .

        • 078 4  This is the best Pokemon version yet !
        • 079 4  I liked the game . I really did . Only problem is that I already played Red and Blue , and this one doesn't have all that many advantages ! If you haven't played any Pokemon , I'd recommend this one because the graphics are much better and you can get all of the Big Three Pokemon - - Bulbasaur , Charmander , and Squirtle - - without trading . Otherwise there are no new Pokemon , so if you've already played Red and Blue , don't bother with it - - just wait for Gold and Silver . Now those are cool !

        • 099 4  This game is just like Pokemon Red and Blue , except that you won't be able to capture Meowth , Koffing , or even Ekans . The good part about it is that you will find stronger pokemon that you can't in Red or Blue . Sometimes you can ; sometimes you can't . That's what life is all about . Here are the pros and cons for this game : Pros : 1 . Improved graphics . 2 . No more errors or glitches . 3 . You can get Bulbasaur , Charmander , and Squirtle . 4 . More events are available . 5 . You can find pokemon with higher attributes . Cons : 1 . Training Pikachu is annoying . 2 . You have to keep Pikachu in your party at all times . 3 . Boss battling is much harder than before . Remember : If you want to avoid this garbage , don't buy it . Otherwise , it's still a blast to play .
        • 111 4  Before , Pokemon Red / Blue were the only Pokemon games for the GameBoy , but now , there is a whole new Pokemon game ! This game is the same game as Pokemon Red / Blue , but with more exciting features than before ! Instead of starting with Charmander , the Fire Type lizard starter Pokemon , Bulbasaur , the Grass Type toad Pokemon and Squirtle , the Water Type turtle Pokemon , you now start out with Pikachu ! ! ! You even get to battle Jessie & James from Team Rocket ! Like in the show , they have Koffing , Ekans and Meowth ( Weezing , Arbok and Meowth later on ! ) . Also , some Gym Leaders now look better too ! Brock now has a shirt on , Misty ( Misty , the world-famous beauty , is your host ! Are you ready , sweetie ? ) now looks more better with that same dress she had in the TV show , and also , even Gym Leaders now use Pokemon they had in the Pokemon anime ! Lt . Surge before used Voltorb , Pikachu and Raichu , but now only an unbeatable Raichu ! ! ! Ash and Gary now look more better now , and your Pikachu even has its anime cry ! It also stays outside its ball , and you can even talk to it to see how it feels ! If it is feeling bad , you can make it happy by healing it with items like Potions , even though it is at full HP ! Pikachu won't even evolve into Raichu , because it hates Thunderstones , like Ash's Pikachu does ! Gary now starts with Eevee , which soon evolves into either Jolteon , Flareon or Vaporeon depending on which last battle you win with him and which battle you lose with him.His first Pokemon besides Eevee in the game is Spearow this time , instead of Pidgey ( You know why ? Pidgeotto belongs to Ash , and Fearow belongs to Gary , like you can see in the anime ! ) . You can still get Charmander , Squirtle and Bulbasaur , and you might be surprised that you can get the three of them together ! To get Bulbasaur , beat Misty and make your Pikachu happy ! If you have , go to the house where a man trades you a Jynx for a Poliwhirl . Instead there is a girl with many Pokemon . Talk to the girl ( Melaine from ' ' Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village ' ' ! ) and she will give you Bulbasaur , the toad Pokemon with the bulb on its back standing next to her ! Getting Charmander is the easiest , just make Pikachu happy and go north out of Nugget Bridge and talk to the boy ( Damion from the episode , ' ' Charmander The Stray Pokemon ' ' ! ) . Getting Squirtle is easy too , you just have to go to Vermillion City and beat Lt . Surge and talk to Officer Jenny ( Have you noticed something ? No more stupid nurses or officers , but now , there are Nurse Joys , their Chanseys and Officer Jennies in every town and city ! ) to get Squirtle . This game is far better than Red / Blue , and more interesting too ! Also , if you're a Pikachu fan like me , go buy this game right now before time runs out !
        • 112 4  I am a huge pokemon collector , I have the cards , the videos , the DVD's , the N64 , the N64 Games , the two Gameboys and all of the english released Gameboy games . Pokemon Yellow come in at the bottom of my pokemon Gameboy games list . This game would be ideal to the Pikachu lover , and that would be about it . It is the same as the Blue and Red games except the beginning of Yellow you are given Pikachu , you aren't given the choice - like you are in the Red and Blue Versions . Other than that - the game is fine . . . ( . . . )
        • 118 4  I like it !
        • 123 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) There's nothing like the original games ( in America anyways ) and none of them are as memorable as the third and lovable Pokemon Yellow : ] I love having little Pikachu walk around with me and the ability to get all the starters ( Bulbasaur , Charmander and Squirtle ) . Improved sprites are a big plus for me although I wish they re-did the back sprites too ! Oh well . Definitely worth buying .

        • 147 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) This is a miraculous game , it features a style seen before in the Red and Blue Versions of Pokemon . However in Yellow you start with a Pikachu instead of Bulbasaur , Charmander , or Squirtle which adds difficulty to the game . A good portion of the beginning to this games features ground and rock type Pokemon , which Pickachu is weak against , and has no attacks that do much damage . So , you are forced to either level your Pokemon insanely or follow the motto and start catching them all to even your odds out with the characters ad gym leaders . This also gives you the three starter Pokemon after completing certain tasks , which you must do anyway , thus again evening your odds to Catch ' Em All . Plus it gives a better understanding of personalities inside of the game and seeing how hard programmers had to work to make this happen . In Red Version all game play is in reddish tints , respectively Blue Version is done all in red ; Yellow Version however gives you various colors which gives each town more personality . Every city is named after a color in the original three versions , and having it all in color lets you see just that , every city has it's own colors and history . This game is something I'll be passing down to my children when I have them , I believe that everyone , anywhere , wants to truly be a Pokemon Master ! J.W.I . ' s PhantoM

        • 164 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) The graphics are piss-poor but the game play and music rarely get better . Bulbasaur is better than any other starter ever and always will be . Charmander was cute but not as cool . And Squirtle as adorable as he was was way too slow . The madness never stopped in my house once me and my bro ( 22 and 16 now ) got these into our grubby paws . We did next to no trading , but tons of gaming . 33 Pokemon that are in this title are : Bulbasaur , Meowth , Persian , Starmie , Dragonair , Koffing , Weezing , Ekans , Arbok , Seel , Dewgong , Zapdos , Geodude , Graveler , Golem , Vulpix , Vileplume , Articuno , Electabuzz , Ponyta , Gloom , Tangela , Lickitung , Mewtwo , Chansey , Taurus , Jynx , Oddish , Golbat , Horsea , Dragonite , Diglett and Magmar . It's only better because Pikachu follows you everywhere , has a feelings meter and can surf if you know how to access it . Also , an extra point because Team Rocket unsuccessfully crashes your party . Priceless , really . And * JUST * like the anime . = ^ ) Game play : A - Sound : B - Originality : D - ( bit off of Blue and Red's style like Woah . The only thing remotely original was the fact that your yellow , adorable Pikachu followed you and he surfed . And remember the 3 starters from Blue / Red ( Bulba , Charm and Squirt ? If you play your cards right you can have them all , helping create a wonderous team to be reckoned with ! Also Team Rocket tried and failed each time to ambush your journey throughout Kanto ! / X ^ D ) Story : C - Trading : A - Fun : A Replay : A + + Overall : B - 4.1 stars .

        • 177 4  this is a challenging game.Plus for people who like the tv show this is a game for them . the really hard part is to make the pikachu who follows you the happiest level wich is 3 hearts ( i think ) . well if you want a challenging pokemon game this is one of the best .
        • 178 4  This game is a classic you should buy it imediatly . THis game lets Pikachu follow you around . HEs ( umm or shes ) sooooooo cute ! ! you can also surf with pikachu ! ! ! ! The sounds not so good but itds not that hard to turn the volume down . The graphics are not great , but they are much better thanblue / red pokemon games.Thats not saying much though . . . . . . But over all its a great game . Buy it .
        • 182 4  This thing is now a hard-to-find item ! But it is great ! It's not as wonderful as the classics , red and blue , but it's a fun rpg . Warning ! You will need to trade with both red and blue to get all 150 catchable pokemon available ! But there is a surfing pikachu mimigame if you have a surfing pikachu , of course , i suggest using gameshark for that ! Anyways , if you can get it , have fun !
        • 183 4  this game is so cool it is my first pokemon game.i know alot about pokemon i guess you could call me a poke freak.any way all i hav to say is this game is a must hav .
        • 190 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) pokemon yellow follows the story better . Because in red and blue you get your choise of Charmander Bulbasour and Squartil . But in yellow you are forced to get pikacho . Also in yellow there is no missing no . Jessie and james also appear in yellow . If i had to chose between red blu and yellow i would chouse yellow .
        • 221 4  The best part about this game is that you can name your Pokemon ( I named my Pikachu Kitty-man , what did you name yours ? ) ! I'm not sure if you can do that with the other games because so far I've only played this one . I don't even own this , a friend let me barrow it . I hope I do own this some day . The only times I remember having fun the first time I play a game is when I first played Super Smash Bros . and South Park : Chef's Luv Shack ! Since I mentioned a South Park game I know what your thinking and your right , I'm not the age that this game is popular with , but that just prooves how much fun this game is ! It's basicly a hunting game with a light touch of a fighting game . A couple weeks after playing this game I saw the cartoon for the first time and it was really annoying , especially Squirtle's scratchy voice and his repeative use of the word Squrtle ( my sister who is 4 years older than me and loves the show and thinks I'm crazy ) . For those of you who haven't played this game but hate it just because you hate the cartoon , barrow the game from someone and try it out , it's really not as bad as the cartoon is . After playing this I hope to own all five of the Pokemon games , but untill then . . . memories .
        • 235 4  This review is from : Pokemon , Yellow Version : Special Pikachu Edition ( Game Cartridge ) Pokemon Yellow : Special Pikachu Edition is a great game , especially since it was made on an 8 - bit platform . It's relatively easy to play , has some problem solving skills tested , and requires basic reading skills to enjoy the full game . But , Missing No . , the error Pokemon is deleted , so the 99 items cheat doesn't work , and , as with all versions of Pokemon for Gameboy , does not have all 150 regular Pokemon ( Mew is available through cheating or using a gameshark or having a Nintendo technichian install it . And Missing No . was taken out of the game ) However , there is a special type of Pikachu in the game : Surfing Pikachu . The only Pikachu that can learn water attacks ( Charmander versus Pikachu versus Squirtle anyone ? ) . And Pikachu talks . He really talks . And , not to insult anybody that has only the Red and / or Blue version , the Pokedex pictures are better . Recommended for anybody that likes Pokemon . But the rating is E for everyone ( actually 6 + ) for some reason with the fighting . It shows 0 physical contact in battles . And you can even print Pokemon boxes and Pokedex info . An interesting touch . I printed Pikachu .
