006 4 I am a middle-aged mother who bought this game for my 5 year old son for Christmas . However , upon plugging it in , I found that unless a child is a pretty good reader already , this game would be difficult for them to play . I was going to put it aside for him , but thought I'd give it a whirl myself first . It hooked me completely ! I love it . It's given me a great education into the Pokemon phenomenum , which is good since my son likes Pokemon . It's non-violent . And , although challenging , not too difficult or frustrating - a plus for both kids and adults alike . This is the first video game that I have played to the end . I highly recommend it for anyone with children who are already competent readers . For those with younger children , buy it but wait until they can read to let them play it . I'll be waiting impatiently for Nintendo to release the Gold and Silver gameboy cartridges here in the states .

Pokemon can be found in different places like Farfetched can now be found in the wild ! I recomend to get this if you have never played the game before or if you love pokemon !

A magazine suggested this one over the rest so I bought it . I must say I was instantly hooked . I spent hours and hours playing this game . The whole concept of training creatures , allowing them to evolve into more powerful creatures and working your way up the ranks of Pokemon greatness is awesome .
This game follows the story pretty well . Ash starts with Pikachu . Your first opportunity at a Pokemon are of the common variety ( ex . Pidgey , Spearow , Caterpie and Rattata ) . You pretty much want to fight as much as possible with as many creatures or enemies in order to level up you Pokemon and get them to evolve . I will say that it is a pain to get every single one this version offers , but if you have a friend I suggest you each make a list and catch certain ones for each other . Even if you trade away a Pokemon you still get credit for having caught it , therefore the possibilty of catching them all is still there . There are certain Pokemon that are better than others so I would advise you to find the ones you want to train and keep them with you then go ahead and catch all the others you want to get credit for and work your way up the ladder that way . It is almost impossible to raise every Pokemon and evolve them all in order to get the credit for every single one .
OK , so the content . You start with Pikachu and begin you quest to get all the Badges and fight the Elite Four . On your journey you have the opportunity to catch as many Pokemon as you could possibly want . You gain money by fighting enemies that way you can buy items to help your Pokemon from certain ailments . You can also buy items to increase certain abilities of your Pokemon such as their special , strength or speed . As you gain a badge you will gain certain abilities yourself as Pokemon over a certain level will obey you , you can use certain abilites such as cut or fly whenever you need and you also get a TM ( Technical Machine ) to teach your Pokemon a special ability . There are also HM's in the game that are kind of like technical machines , but much better . The only draw back to these is that you cannot unlearn HM's like you can TM's so that ability is stuck with them forever and cannot be deleted to learn newer moves . Your Pokemon can learn up to 4 moves so teach them wisely . I suggest picking up a strategey guide if you want to know which moves should or shouldn't be taught , plus the guides will tell you where ever single Pokemon you can catch is located . After collecting all the badges you have a chance to fight the elite 4 and get access to the Unknow Dungeon where there are tons of rare Pokemon for you to catch . That's the end of the game , but you can go back and catch other Pokemon that you may have missed . There are certain Pokemon that only appear once or twice in the game and are very hard to catch . I suggest saving the game before you fight these so if you are trying to catch them and accidentally kill them then you can try again without anything being lost .
I like this game . If you like RPG's this is a good game , but probably won't quench your appetite for real RPG , but if you are new to the genre or just like Pokemon I suggest you pick this one up . You won't regret it .

My kids and I all love the Pokemon Gameboys ( the three of us each have our own Gameboy ) . The blue Pokemon game is very similar to the red , with the Yellow having some slight differences .
The foremost of these is the fact that Pikachu just won't stay in his Pokeball ! He follows you around in the game , and you have to keep him happy or you lose points and various opportunities . I also like the addition of Jesse and James ( characters from the cartoon ) , and the additional battles they provide . If I had to pick just one of the three , this is the one I'd pick .
I like the way the Pokemon game challenges kids . I suggest also buying one of the books which shows the various routes and places . This allows kids to work at the tasks without getting frustrated .

I am a middle-aged mother who bought this game for my 5 year old son for Christmas . However , upon plugging it in , I found that unless a child is a pretty good reader already , this game would be difficult for them to play . I was going to put it aside for him , but thought I'd give it a whirl myself first . It hooked me completely ! I love it . It's given me a great education into the Pokemon phenomenum , which is good since my son likes Pokemon . It's non-violent . And , although challenging , not too difficult or frustrating - a plus for both kids and adults alike . This is the first video game that I have played to the end . I highly recommend it for anyone with children who are already competent readers . For those with younger children , buy it but wait until they can read to let them play it . I'll be waiting impatiently for Nintendo to release the Gold and Silver gameboy cartridges here in the states .

I'm a first time GameBoy owner and I found this game to be pretty impressive given the limitations of the GameBoys power . I have Pokemon Stadium for N64 which is outstanding and found that without Pokemon raised in the Red , Blue or Yellow games that you can only get so far . I resisted buying a GameBoy just to play the N64 game better but now I'm glad I did . I haven't played Pokemon Red or Blue but Yellow is simply a better version of both from what I've read . The graphics ( especially the battles ) are very good given the before mentioned limitations . I would say it is original Nintendo 8 - bit Game system quality . The sound is as good as possible given the tiny speaker and fits right in with the N64 game and the cartoon series . The gameplay itself is very absorbing and easy to pickup . I'm a novice but I can see where I'll be playing this game for quite awhile accumulating Pokemon I can export into my N64 game . The only criticism I have is the fact that you almost have to have both game systems to enjoy the Pokemon games , although they are very fun as stand alone products . You also have to have the Red , Blue and Yellow games to collect all the Pokemon as there is a handful missing from each game . For example , there are 12 of 150 missing from each version . I recommend this game highly however . Now go catch ' em all !

The game itself is basically the same as Red and Blue but with extras and the pokemon in different areas . The graphics are definately better than on R B Plus you begin your journey with Pikachu who follows you about and smiles and hops when you look at him ! If you haven't got Pokemon and are thinking about it I would reccommend you get Yellow instead of Red or Blue.It's great 4 Pikachu Lovers .

Mum bought Pokemon Stadium and now I can play this on the TV too . I like it because Pikachu travels with you , not in the PokeBall . It is more like the TV show than red and blue versions . Also on TV it looks great - the colour is fabulous . If you only get one Pokemon game , make it this one . Then if you are lucky enought to have N64 Pokemon Stadium it will be even better .

Pokémon Yellow is almost exactly the same as Red / Blue / Green . The only differences are that you start out w / Pikachu , your rival starts out with Eevee , all of the cheats from Red / Blue are gone , the Gym Leaders have different pokémon , and the pokémon's pictures are different . If you already have Red / Blue / Green , I wouldn't really suggest buying it , but if you don't have a Pokémon game yet and want to buy one , this is an ideal first game for Pokémon lovers .

I finally let myself get pulled into the Pokemon world . Being an Anime fan , I decided to give Pokemon a go . After speaking with a few friends that have all three versions , they recommended I get the Yellow version first . Having a GameBoy Color already , made the purchase of the Yellow version a good buy since it supports colors . Gameplay in general is fun and it kept me glued to the Gameboy for hours on end . There is a lot to do in the game which means it won't be like other games that you buy and beat the game in a few days . This is a good buy . . . my 2 cents .

Pokemon is a very popular TV series , video game , trading card game , and about everything else ! I didn't expect much more than total boredom , but this game is a lot more than it looks . More than 20 different locations to explore , 50 technical machines ( TMs ) , 5 hidden machines ( HMs ) , and more than 150 Pokemon . You can dig , swim , fly , and even cut through trees ! More than 100 people to battle , talk to , get gifts or trade with , and get hints . You can buy , recieve , and find more than 75 items , even invisible ones ! You can catch over 25 wild Pokemon , but you have to trade , recieve , buy , and metamorph ( evolve ) some . You start out with a Pikachu that you can talk to . It can get from REALLY mad to having hearts all around its head ! The fighting is really ungorey , and you can turn the animation to the battles off so you just hear ' BUMP ! ' There are tons of secrets in the game . You can even nickname or rename Pokemon and go to a hospital for Pokemon for free . You should buy this game , unless you want to wait until Gold and Silver come out . They have the new Pokemon up to 250 . I still think that's too many .

Well if you want to do it thehard way you catch a caterpie or a metapod and evolve it into a Buterfry . Or you can do it the easy way and capture a Nidoran in Pewter city . ( there is some grass as soon as you walk in to it ) Then when you get the Nidoran fight Pokemon in Pewter city or in Viridian Forest . Soon you will learn horn attack . If you want to try that against brock the go ahead it won't do much good . I suggest keep on fighting pokemon until you learn double kick . It still may be hard to defeat BROCK but stock up on Potions . Then you will be sure to defeat him . O by the way you cant leave Pewter city to go on to MT.Moon because a person is blocking the way . But when you defeat Brock the person is gone.when you go on to Mt . Moon a guy will try to sell a Magikarp for 500 $ . Don't buy it . You can fish for one in Vermilion city . You should buy Poke Balls in Pewter City before you leave . Be sure to get your Pokemon fighting fit in the Pokecenter . Then when you go into Mt.Moon you can find a Tm ( Technical Machine ) the TM contains Bubblebeam . Teach this to your Nidoran . Then he can take on all the Geododes in the place . Be sure to capture a Geodude . They are really good against Raichu in Vermillion City . And the Pikachu you got during the begining of the game will help you against Misty ( water Pokemon ) . 028 4 About a year ago , I too was drawn into the Pokemon fad . I played Pokemon Red a little bit when one of my friends came over . I enjoyed it , but it seemed a bit complicated . I finally got version yellow . The hardest part of the game is at the beginning . ( But I won't tell you why evil laugh > > : ) . ) Anyways , once you get past that part , the rest is of average difficulty for a game . Graphics are par for the GBC , and the battle scenes are cool . Sound is great , and the amount of different sounds puts me in awe . Now that I'm over the Pokemon craze , I see that it is not quite a five-star game , but still worth four stars .

The cool thing about pikachu is like in the TV show , he won't get in his poke ball , so you can talk to him and see how he's doing . If you keep him happy , good things could happen . . . If you want full enjoyment of the game , keep pika in your party at all times . Sometimes , Pikachu will do some interesting things . Take this for an example : when you enter the poke club for the first time , pika chu will get the love bug with a guys clefairy . The music and areas stay the same , but there are all new animations for the pokemon , plus we get to see jesse and james and a cool new surfing game , which you need a surfing pikachu for . If you didn't win nintendo powers contest , there's a way to get one in stadium . And the best part is ( drum roll ) you can get squirtle charmander and bulbasaur without having to go through that loooooong trading deal . This is an amesome game , buy it , your money won't be wasted .

I think Poke'mon Yellow is an amazing game even though it doesn't have very many new features compared to Blue Red . The graphic on Yellow are a 100% improvement on Blue Red.The pokemon pictures are new but the routes are all the same until you reach the unknown dungeon which has totally changed . Pokemon that you could only get by trading with other trainers on Red Blue you can now catch in the wild . However , there are 8 that you need to trade with your friends using a link cable .
The Gym leaders use totally different Pokemon , but beware in Yellow they use less Pokemon but they are more likely to be higer levels and better trained ( in their attacks ) .
I would recommend the game to anyone and if you haven't already got Blue or Red , then go straight for Yellow and enjoy !

Don't abandon your Gameboy Color just yet ! I got this game in 1998 when I was eight-years-old and almost eight years later , it is still one of my favorite games . Definitely a must have for all ages !
040 4 In this version of Pokemon , you start off with Pikachu and all the rest of it . I think it's better than the other versions in some ways because it has colour and that mini game , Pikachu's Beach . That's kind of dumb because you can only get a Surfing Pikachu with cheats if you live outside of a major country like Australia or America , where they have tournaments for Surfing Pikachu . If you live somewhere else , like where I'm typing this note , New Zealand , you have to resort to cheats . On the subject of Cheats you can't do any of them . I've tried . Most people think that it's a bad idea to buy it if you have already got Blue or Red , I don't think it is because : 1 : It has colour 2 : It has better graphics than R B 3 : It follows the cartoon better . And it can be a relief to those who own Silver or Gold because it's not like you're having to get back down to the ( * * ( $ # graphics in Red and Blue version . BUY IT !

Good game I thought some of the graphic's were a little tacky for my taste although the funny part is they say this game is for the original Game Boy but when you play the game the background like houses and the ocean and people the graphics really suck major but when you get into a pokemon battle with another trainer and you see both pokemon their both in crystal clear color which is really weird because this game is suppose to be for the GB not GBC so go figure I just thought that was pretty interesting that only the pokemon would come in color who knows maybe that's why they said on the front Special Pikachu Edition on the game boy cartridge but I will admit this game with out a dout in my mind is extremely to long but a very interesting game good for very long road trips defently Oh and remember if your going on a long road trip and you take your GBA SP remember to take the car charger with you for that sort of thing or the easy way take the Original GBA and just buy double AA batteries when you need them I wouldn't really recommend taking the GBA SP on long road trip just because when you plug in the car charger you can't listen to the radio while the car charger is in I found that out the hard way 1 time I plugged in the car charger but then it some how wouldn't let me listen to the radio . So buy this game if you have a roadtrip coming up and you get bored in the car very easily or if you just need something to do or just get bored any where . If you have an extremely short attention span do not get this game you will get bored with it really quickly and then want to trade it in and it is a little bit of a frustrating game at times so if you can't take frustration don't get this game either . I would recommend this game for anyone 10 years of age or older .

Being an owner of Pokemon Red , I had hoped that there would be more to Pokemon Yellow . Okay , it's great what they've done to the Pokedex and I love how they changed the storyline to be closer to the TV show , but . . . it's the same ! Also , I had hoped that you could choose to be a guy or girl ( of course that was a rumour . . . ) and you have to have . . . Pikachu . Despite the many years I've played Pokemon , through all the versions I've bought , I am now 19 and Yellow is still by far the best one I've played simply for its simplicity . 063 4 I am a big fan with pokemon . I own the red , blue , and yellow versions . But this is one of the best games I ever played . It is sometimes a drag when you see Pikachu following you but other than that it is a good game . I have fun battling with my friends . Sometimes I win and sometimes I don't win . I think this game can be educational because it teaches kids how to use maps and what other kids would do to buy things at the PokeMart . I think that the pictures of the pokemon look better than the pictures in Red and Blue . It's sad that you can't do the MissingNo . trick in the Yellow Version , but that's the way it is . You can't cheat all of the time you know .
The game gets pretty long and boring sometimes when you've captured Mewtwo and beaten the Pokemon League , but that's the way it is . Since in my Red and Blue versions have the MissingNo . trick , I always use rare candies on my Pokemon than trying to train them . But as I said before you can't do the trick in the Yellow Version because MissingNo . has been deleted .

064 4 Pokemon Yellow is basically the same game as Red and Blue . Starting with Pikachu makes the game more difficult , especially at the start . Considering that Pikachu is not a very strong Pokemon , and that you can catch him early on in the older games ( look in Viridian Forest ) , I don't think this is a very useful feature . It could appeal to younger kids who like Pikachu from the cartoons , I suppose . You can catch all three of the starting Pokemon from Red and Blue in this game , but there are better pokemon out there . If you are going for all 150 , I guess this would be the game to get , though . Once you defeat the first gym leader , the game is actually slightly easier than Red and Blue .
In conclusion , I really don't think Yellow is worth it for experienced Pokemon fans . If you are just starting out , however , you might want to consider it .

This is a great game ! As a pokefan for years , I have fallen in love with this game . Even after almost 100 hours of play and defeating the Elite Four ( which actually wasn't as hard as I expected it to be ) there is still plenty to do . IYou can continue fighting with new pokemon and try to collect all 151 ( Yes , Mew's available if you are lucky ) I am VERY excited to see if anything happens when you do collect all of them ! This is the best Pokemon version yet ! It's almost just like the show Pokemon . You get to battle Jessie and James ( with their trademark pokemon ) . And battling other players with a link cable in the Colleseum2 mode is totally awesome ! And even better yet you get squirtle , charmander , and bulbasaur in the game too ! And just like in the show Pikachu follows you around . ( But the only set back is like in the show Pikachu doesn't evolve ) . I think that this follows the TV Series more than any other one because Pikachu follows you around . They make the game hard at the beginning because lightning is weak against rock and Brock's Pokemon are rock . After that you have to beat several more gym leaders then the Elite Four .

Despite this I have to admit that I love this classic game . When I was little I bought some other Pokemon games ( I don't buy them now ) but nothing tops this one .

I am old school when it comes to Pokemon and this is one of the best of the original three games . The controls and goal are the same as in Red and Blue with a few new features such as Pikachu following you and being able to check its mood and the introduction of Team Rocket's Jesse and James .

The Pokemon Yellow version is an incredible game . The big problem is that there are barely any people playing the old gameboy color versions like red , blue and green . To get all 150 pokemon in this game you need to trade with other players . I did think that the game has a great story line though ( that is for a pokemon game . The story lines are pretty limited ) with the path of the trainer Ash in the cartoons ( Don't get me wrong . The cartoons are pretty terrible . If you like the cartoon , the game would be even better ) .
The game has a great number of ways to play . It also takes a large amount of time to beat . The new Gameboy Advance pokemon games are beatable in several hours . The yellow version took me 45 hours to beat .

If you havin trouble in silph co . and cant find card key you go to the 5 floor go to the teleport daimond by the the rocket on the lower left . then telport back . go down go to the right and you find an item ball that will contain card key . you can also get lapras but why should i tell you how to get him . After I got Mewtwo , got everyone on my team ( Alakazam , Mewtwo , Venasaur , Dragonite and Pidgeot ) to the highest lever you can get them to ( level 100 ) ( yes , you can deposit Pikachu ) , caught 121 different Pokemon , beaten the Elite four and Gary a million times , got the TM for Hyper Beam and tought it to about everyone , this game became super boring and it is somewhere on my desk covered with dust . OK , this is like a role playing game for kids . Kinda like RPG Lite . I'm a video game freak and thought I'd see what all the hype was about . A magazine suggested this one over the rest so I bought it . I must say I was instantly hooked . I spent hours and hours playing this game . The whole concept of training creatures , allowing them to evolve into more powerful creatures and working your way up the ranks of Pokemon greatness is awesome .
This game follows the story pretty well . Ash starts with Pikachu . Your first opportunity at a Pokemon are of the common variety ( ex . Pidgey , Spearow , Caterpie and Rattata ) . You pretty much want to fight as much as possible with as many creatures or enemies in order to level up you Pokemon and get them to evolve . I will say that it is a pain to get every single one this version offers , but if you have a friend I suggest you each make a list and catch certain ones for each other . Even if you trade away a Pokemon you still get credit for having caught it , therefore the possibilty of catching them all is still there . There are certain Pokemon that are better than others so I would advise you to find the ones you want to train and keep them with you then go ahead and catch all the others you want to get credit for and work your way up the ladder that way . It is almost impossible to raise every Pokemon and evolve them all in order to get the credit for every single one .
OK , so the content . You start with Pikachu and begin you quest to get all the Badges and fight the Elite Four . On your journey you have the opportunity to catch as many Pokemon as you could possibly want . You gain money by fighting enemies that way you can buy items to help your Pokemon from certain ailments . You can also buy items to increase certain abilities of your Pokemon such as their special , strength or speed . As you gain a badge you will gain certain abilities yourself as Pokemon over a certain level will obey you , you can use certain abilites such as cut or fly whenever you need and you also get a TM ( Technical Machine ) to teach your Pokemon a special ability . There are also HM's in the game that are kind of like technical machines , but much better . The only draw back to these is that you cannot unlearn HM's like you can TM's so that ability is stuck with them forever and cannot be deleted to learn newer moves . Your Pokemon can learn up to 4 moves so teach them wisely . I suggest picking up a strategey guide if you want to know which moves should or shouldn't be taught , plus the guides will tell you where ever single Pokemon you can catch is located . After collecting all the badges you have a chance to fight the elite 4 and get access to the Unknow Dungeon where there are tons of rare Pokemon for you to catch . That's the end of the game , but you can go back and catch other Pokemon that you may have missed . There are certain Pokemon that only appear once or twice in the game and are very hard to catch . I suggest saving the game before you fight these so if you are trying to catch them and accidentally kill them then you can try again without anything being lost .

242 4 This game is really pretty fun . For the first 45 hours . Then it just starts to get a liiittle boring . I mean , how long can you go before you start to get sick of blacking out and listening to the other trainers idiotic comments which really don't apply to the game ? I got this game in July . I'm still playing . Ok , so maybe I'm not the most fabulous gamer in the world , but I'm not that bad . If you love pokemon and have a good attention span , buy this game . If not , don't bother .

Pokemon Yellow is an upgraded version of Pokemon Red and Blue , and it's really good , being a Pokemon game . Unfortunately , it is somewhat underappreciated , like most Game Boy Color games . And the graphics are somewhat crude , but it doesn't detract from the game at all .
In this game , you automatically start out with Pikachu , instead of choosing between Bulbasaur , Charmander and Squirtle , and your rival gets Eevee . The game plays out exactly like Red and Blue , except for a few things , such as Jessie and James showing up a few times . ( Unfortunately , they only show up a limited number of times , which is a bit of a letdown if you ask me . ) And the Pokemon have been redesigned to look more like they do on the TV show .
Here are the pros and cons of this game .

Pikachu says its name instead of making a sneezing noise . I really liked this , even though the voice clips aren't of particularly good quality . ( Some find this annoying , but I don't . ) Also , Pikachu follows you around instead of staying in its Pokeball , and you can see what kind of mood it's in if you turn around to face it and press A .
As you get to know Pikachu , it will get to like you more and more . ( I've been playing my current game for an estimated three or four years now , and Pikachu now has little hearts flying around his head . ) However , it gets ticked off with you if you put it in the PC or let it faint .

There's a mini-game in this game called Pikachu's Beach . If you have a Pikachu that knows Surf , you can play it . Unfortunately , you can only teach Pikachu Surf through a complicated method involving Pokemon Stadium and the Transfer Pak . Or , if you prefer , you can use a cheating device . ( I do NOT recommend the latter , however , because cheating devices can mess up things on your game . )
Cons :
You can't play as a girl .
It's really hard defeating Brock ( the first gym leader ) , because Pikachu has a glaring weakness against Rock and Ground-type Pokemon .
This is just a personal thing , but I really don't like the plot involving Lavender Tower ( having to go and calm the ghost of a dead Marowak ) . Of course , no Pokemon actually die in the game ( if defeated in battle , they just faint ) , but this part of the game is still rather unsettling . It also might bother some younger or more sensitive players .
The item pack is really hard to navigate through ( it's hard to find things in there ) . Fortunately , this is improved in Gold / Silver / Crystal .
Some parts of the game are really ridiculously hard - - but , really , that holds true for almost all video games .
You can't battle trainers over again , except for the Elite Four , so it becomes hard to level up your Pokemon after awhile . And after you capture Mewtwo , there really isn't very much more to do in the game , except try to get all 151 Pokemon . Fortunately , all of this is improved in Pokemon Gold / Silver / Crystal .
In conclusion , Pokemon Yellow is awfully good , even if it's out of print , like so many other Game Boy Color games that shouldn't be . But if you'd prefer better graphics , then I'd recommend Pokemon Crystal .

First of all , I would like to point out that I'm way over the 5 - 12 age average for pokémon , but I just can't refuse a good game when I see one . The pokémon rage has dominated the games market by using the same urge to collect technique that powered other rages like Magic cards and Pogs . Unlike the previous two , pokémon has managed to sustain its popularity through toys , cards , a feature-length movie and a top-rated cartoon . It's this specific cartoon that pokémon yellow is based on .
If you're already familiar with the red blue versions , the first thing you will have noticed in yellow is that you begin with Pikachu as your starting pokémon , just like in the cartoon , and he follows you around everywhere . The best thing about this is that you can check his attitude from time to time and he ACTUALLY SAYS HIS NAME ! Even though there's a bit of static , the fact that you can create sound like this on a gameboy is a remarkable achievement ! Even more surprising is that there are at least twenty different ways Pikachu can say his name whether he's happy , sad , scared , confused , poisoned , etc . etc .
Another difference to this version is that all the pokémon have been re-drawn to look exactly like they did in the cartoon and the pokédex data has been changed . If you do , the minor changes to this version probably aren't enough to justify the purchase as it's basically the same game . 037 4 If you're going to buy one of the three , I would recommend this one . Even if you have played Red or Blue , I would still buy it , if you want to play another Pokemon game ( also consider Gold , Silver , Crystal , of course ) . Yellow doesn't enjoy some of the upgrades that G / S have , but it does have its advantages . You start out with Pikachu , and Pikachu follows you everywhere unless it is fainted or you don't have it with you ( but that's not a good idea because it hates being in the computer ) . You can talk to Pikachu to check on its mood , and it will vocalize . So if you like Pikachu , this is the version for you . In other games , you can't catch Pikachu very early in the game . When I first played another version , it was very odd not to have Pikachu following me around . Anyway , another advantage of Yellow is that you can obtain all THREE of the Red / Blue starter pokemon in a single game , without trading or resetting in any way . Just make sure Pikachu is happy and people will give them to you along the way . Also , the graphics in this game are much better in my opinion than the graphics in R / B . The graphics were probably influenced by the anime , as the storyline was in regards to Pikachu , Bulbasaur , Charmander , and Squirtle . It is a great improvement in my opinion .
Summary : Get Pikachu fast , it talks , it looks cute . Get all the starter Pokemon without resetting or trading . Better graphics than Red or Blue .

And now to the disapointing aspects of the game : 1 ) You can't be a girl . Although you are told you are ' Ash Ketchum ' you can re-name your character , but you can't change his gender . 2 ) Pikachu won't evolve , and as far as I know , you can't catch wild Pikachu on this version . All in all it is a very fun game . Another fun option is that you can nickname your captured Pokemon . I nicknamed my Machop Atlas , and my Seaking Neptune . I would not recommend it for children who can't read .
078 4 This is the best Pokemon version yet ! It's almost just like the show Pokemon . You get to battle Jessie and James ( with their trademark pokemon ) . And battling other players with a link cable in the Colleseum2 mode is totally awesome ! And even better yet you get squirtle , charmander , and bulbasaur in the game too ! And just like in the show Pikachu follows you around . ( But the only set back is like in the show Pikachu doesn't evolve ) . With different enemy encounters and improvements in the game ( for instance in red and blue Charizard is part flying and couldn't learn fly . In yellow he can ! ) So if you liked the red and blue versions , you'll love the new and improved yellow version !
079 4 I liked the game . I really did . Only problem is that I already played Red and Blue , and this one doesn't have all that many advantages ! If you haven't played any Pokemon , I'd recommend this one because the graphics are much better and you can get all of the Big Three Pokemon - - Bulbasaur , Charmander , and Squirtle - - without trading . Otherwise there are no new Pokemon , so if you've already played Red and Blue , don't bother with it - - just wait for Gold and Silver . Now those are cool !

First of all , I would like to point out that I'm way over the 5 - 12 age average for pokémon , but I just can't refuse a good game when I see one . The pokémon rage has dominated the games market by using the same urge to collect technique that powered other rages like Magic cards and Pogs . Unlike the previous two , pokémon has managed to sustain its popularity through toys , cards , a feature-length movie and a top-rated cartoon . It's this specific cartoon that pokémon yellow is based on . If you're already familiar with the red blue versions , the first thing you will have noticed in yellow is that you begin with Pikachu as your starting pokémon , just like in the cartoon , and he follows you around everywhere . The best thing about this is that you can check his attitude from time to time and he ACTUALLY SAYS HIS NAME ! Even though there's a bit of static , the fact that you can create sound like this on a gameboy is a remarkable achievement ! Even more surprising is that there are at least twenty different ways Pikachu can say his name whether he's happy , sad , scared , confused , poisoned , etc . etc .
Another difference to this version is that all the pokémon have been re-drawn to look exactly like they did in the cartoon and the pokédex data has been changed . Jessie and James also make a guest appearence a few times ( too few in fact ) and recite their horribly corny motto as they attack you with Ekans / Arbok , Koffing / Weezing , and Meowth . Other nice touches are that Brock and Misty have also been re-drawn too look like the cartoon and the other gym leaders have different pokémon . Also , the yellow version sports an excellent Surfing Pikachu mini-game which can only be reached if you own Pokémon Stadium ( or a Gameshark ) . The unknown dungeon has been redesigned and the pokémon present in this version are different from red blue . You can even get Bulbasaur , Charmander and Squirtle all at once !
Now the downside to this version is that the replay value has been diminished a little because you ALWAYS start off with Pikachu instead of having the choice between three pokémon . Gary is also stuck with Eevee ( which evolves into Jolteon ) for the entire game , so there's a little less variety in gameplay . Plus , the infamous Missingno . pokémon has sadly been removed preventing you from duplicating rare candies a hundred fold . But if you don't mind playing pokémon the honest way , then this isn't much of a problem .
Now the question is , do you really want this game if you already own the red and / or blue versions ? If you do , the minor changes to this version probably aren't enough to justify the purchase as it's basically the same game . Instead , you should really save your money for the gold / silver versions this Fall . If you don't already own red or blue , then this game is a must-have as it's the best of the three ! Besides , where else can you get Oddish and Bellsprout in the same game ? I was very impressed with this game . Buy it . Now .

The good part about it is that you will find stronger pokemon that you can't in Red or Blue . Sometimes you can ; sometimes you can't . That's what life is all about . This game is the same game as Pokemon Red / Blue , but with more exciting features than before ! Instead of starting with Charmander , the Fire Type lizard starter Pokemon , Bulbasaur , the Grass Type toad Pokemon and Squirtle , the Water Type turtle Pokemon , you now start out with Pikachu ! ! ! You even get to battle Jessie & James from Team Rocket ! Like in the show , they have Koffing , Ekans and Meowth ( Weezing , Arbok and Meowth later on ! ) . Also , some Gym Leaders now look better too ! Brock now has a shirt on , Misty ( Misty , the world-famous beauty , is your host ! Are you ready , sweetie ? ) now looks more better with that same dress she had in the TV show , and also , even Gym Leaders now use Pokemon they had in the Pokemon anime ! Lt . Surge before used Voltorb , Pikachu and Raichu , but now only an unbeatable Raichu ! ! ! Ash and Gary now look more better now , and your Pikachu even has its anime cry ! It also stays outside its ball , and you can even talk to it to see how it feels ! If it is feeling bad , you can make it happy by healing it with items like Potions , even though it is at full HP ! Pikachu won't even evolve into Raichu , because it hates Thunderstones , like Ash's Pikachu does ! Gary now starts with Eevee , which soon evolves into either Jolteon , Flareon or Vaporeon depending on which last battle you win with him and which battle you lose with him.His first Pokemon besides Eevee in the game is Spearow this time , instead of Pidgey ( You know why ? Pidgeotto belongs to Ash , and Fearow belongs to Gary , like you can see in the anime ! ) . You can still get Charmander , Squirtle and Bulbasaur , and you might be surprised that you can get the three of them together ! To get Bulbasaur , beat Misty and make your Pikachu happy ! If you have , go to the house where a man trades you a Jynx for a Poliwhirl . Instead there is a girl with many Pokemon . Talk to the girl ( Melaine from ' ' Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village ' ' ! ) and she will give you Bulbasaur , the toad Pokemon with the bulb on its back standing next to her ! Getting Charmander is the easiest , just make Pikachu happy and go north out of Nugget Bridge and talk to the boy ( Damion from the episode , ' ' Charmander The Stray Pokemon ' ' ! ) . Getting Squirtle is easy too , you just have to go to Vermillion City and beat Lt . Surge and talk to Officer Jenny ( Have you noticed something ? No more stupid nurses or officers , but now , there are Nurse Joys , their Chanseys and Officer Jennies in every town and city ! ) to get Squirtle . This game is far better than Red / Blue , and more interesting too ! Also , if you're a Pikachu fan like me , go buy this game right now before time runs out !
112 4 I am a huge pokemon collector , I have the cards , the videos , the DVD's , the N64 , the N64 Games , the two Gameboys and all of the english released Gameboy games . Pokemon Yellow come in at the bottom of my pokemon Gameboy games list . This game would be ideal to the Pikachu lover , and that would be about it . It is the same as the Blue and Red games except the beginning of Yellow you are given Pikachu , you aren't given the choice - like you are in the Red and Blue Versions . Other than that - the game is fine . . . ( . . . )

My favorite part of it all is seeing Pikachu's different moods . Other than not having Missingno ( the item duplicating blob of blurred graphics ) it's the best of them all !

Improved sprites are a big plus for me although I wish they re-did the back sprites too ! Oh well .
Definitely worth buying .

Every city is named after a color in the original three versions , and having it all in color lets you see just that , every city has it's own colors and history .

pokemon yellow follows the story better . Because in red and blue you get your choise of Charmander Bulbasour and Squartil . But in yellow you are forced to get pikacho . Also in yellow there is no missing no . Jessie and james also appear in yellow . If i had to chose between red blu and yellow i would chouse yellow .
221 4 The best part about this game is that you can name your Pokemon ( I named my Pikachu Kitty-man , what did you name yours ? ) ! I'm not sure if you can do that with the other games because so far I've only played this one . I don't even own this , a friend let me barrow it . I hope I do own this some day . The only times I remember having fun the first time I play a game is when I first played Super Smash Bros . and South Park : Chef's Luv Shack ! Since I mentioned a South Park game I know what your thinking and your right , I'm not the age that this game is popular with , but that just prooves how much fun this game is ! It's basicly a hunting game with a light touch of a fighting game . A couple weeks after playing this game I saw the cartoon for the first time and it was really annoying , especially Squirtle's scratchy voice and his repeative use of the word Squrtle ( my sister who is 4 years older than me and loves the show and thinks I'm crazy ) . For those of you who haven't played this game but hate it just because you hate the cartoon , barrow the game from someone and try it out , it's really not as bad as the cartoon is . After playing this I hope to own all five of the Pokemon games , but untill then . . . memories .

But , Missing No . , the error Pokemon is deleted , so the 99 items cheat doesn't work , and , as with all versions of Pokemon for Gameboy , does not have all 150 regular Pokemon ( Mew is available through cheating or using a gameshark or having a Nintendo technichian install it . And Missing No . was taken out of the game ) However , there is a special type of Pikachu in the game : Surfing Pikachu . The only Pikachu that can learn water attacks ( Charmander versus Pikachu versus Squirtle anyone ? ) . And Pikachu talks . He really talks . And , not to insult anybody that has only the Red and / or Blue version , the Pokedex pictures are better . Recommended for anybody that likes Pokemon .
