This will change from one gamer to the next When Pokemon Red and Blue came out , Pokemon Yellow followed just a year later to expand on the games . When Pokemon Gold and Silver debuted , Crystal followed shortly thereafter . When Ruby and Sapphire came out , it wasn't long until Emerald followed . It was only a matter of time before Pokemon Diamond and Pearl also got a third version into the mix . Pokemon Platinum . Just like the previous third versions of the games , Platinum adds in a few new things , though it's hard to say you'll ultimately want it if you've already got Diamond and / or Pearl and you've already worked your way through them . Then again , you might find some of the extras worthwhile . Pokemon has been doing the same thing since it came about ten years ago . The formula is so familiar to gamers that there's a been there , done that kind of feel all over . You choose a starter and go off from home to collect several Pokemon , collect gym badges and ultimately defeat an evil team of Pokemon Trainers that are up to no good . All the pieces of the formula are there . If you've played any of the previous Pokemon games before then you've been here before . Yet it doesn't stop Pokemon from being an overall addictive game . While some will find Platinum ( as well as Diamond and Pearl ) to be a little too much of the same thing , the gameplay can't be denied . Pokemon has been doing the same thing for over ten years now , and it's still fun . Pokemon is actually really strategic and in-depth . That is to say , it requires a lot of thought , and believe me , some of these battles require a lot of your skill . Battles are turn based , where you select a command and then watch a round of combat . There's a paper / rock / scissors effect here , however . Each and every Pokemon has a type , and some of the attacks they use reflect its type . This makes up what deals massive damage , what deals no damage and what deals just normal damage . Grass may be strong against water , for example but grass is also weak against fire , but in turn , fire is weak versus water . This effect plays through with seventeen and different types , and there is no best type because every type has a weakness . It's because of this element that Pokemon is so much fun to play . Just trying to construct the perfect team will take you more than a day , and with over 100 new creatures to collect , you can form endless amounts of teams . Just catching all the Pokemon alone will keep you busy for well over 50 hours . To add to the effect you'll face several other trainers as well , and you never know what they'll throw at you . Your strongest Pokemon may very well become your weakest in certain battles just because of its type . The battle system itself is made even simpler by the touch screen . Where as before you were scrolling through menus , battling can simply be done by touching the different options on screen . It makes battling a lot faster , especially because the icons are pretty big . Luckily , there's never really a point where you have to use the touch screen if you don't want to , and battling can still be done the old fashioned way if you so choose . As with Ruby and Sapphire there are also moments of two on two battles . Usually they come with either two trainers taking you on at a time , and you'll send out the two Pokemon in your top roster , or you'll be with another trainer who will send out his or her Pokemon with yours . It adds to the strategic feel of the game , but the moments of two on two battles are pretty few and far between . Pokemon Platinum adds a couple of new things , though not much . Most notable is , of course , is the distortion world . Aside from this there's not that big of a motive to get Pokemon Platinum if you mastered one of the other two versions . It's great if you don't have either one , but it's hard to want to pick up Platinum just for the Distortion World alone . There are a couple of other little goodies sprinkled about , including improvements in the online factor of the game , but it's still essentially the same game you got two years ago . And for the most part , that isn't bad . The Pokemon games in and of themselves are full of little hidden secrets . There's so much you can do after the main quest is over . You can also enter into different contests as well as go after legendary Pokemon . Pokemon can easily keep any gamer busy for well over fifty hours . Pokemon has never really been a game you go after for eye-candy . There are some moments where some 3D effects come out , but not very many . The sprites are more or less the same sprites they've been using since the Red and Blue versions . Ideally , the game doesn't look all that much of a step up from Ruby and Sapphire , and they were not fantastic looking games either . It's really colorful , but the DS is capable of so much more than this . Likewise , in battle is still the same . Fun to do it , but the Pokemon still only flinch to attack , and there aren't a lot of animations going on , and we're still looking over the Pokemon's shoulder . Essentially , the combat engine hasn't changed since the series first outing in 1998 . There are some move animations that look really good , but aside from that it's hard to look past the simple fact that the game's combat engine hasn't really evolved since the original games came out way back in 1998 . This isn't the original Gameboy , this is the Nintendo DS . The sound is also no exception . A lot of it sounds really tinny . Most of the sound effects such as the Pokemon's cries are ripped straight from - - you guessed it - - the original Gameboy versions released in 1998 . That's not to say all the tunes sound bad , it's just to say that a lot of what you're going to hear is recycled . While the sound effects are dated , the music certainly isn't . It's upbeat and keeps you on your toes . In the end , the production values aren't exactly something that'll disappoint you . Though it might still be nice if someday Pokemon could get an update . It's still an improvement . Despite the games graphics and sound , Pokemon Platinum is still an excellent title . If you don't have Diamond or Pearl , you might as well pick up this one . If there was anything to fret about over Pokemon it would be that it's just too much of the same thing . Not to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl , but to the series as a whole . There are plenty of additions , but the truth still stands : We've been doing the same thing for ten years . But it's still a fun game regardless .
• 002 4  First off , I must address the numerous reviewers who are complaining that Platinum is essentially a remake of Diamond and Pearl versions of Pokemon . Yes , it is . And everybody should have known that before blowing $40 on it , simply by reading the product description . The third installations of all 4 Pokemon series of games have always been remakes of the previous 2 . Yellow was an enhanced version of Red and Blue ; Crystal was an enhanced version of Gold and Silver ; Emerald was an enhanced version of Ruby and Sapphire ; and now , Platinum is an enhanced version of Diamond and Pearl . This is how the Pokemon games have always worked , so it is beyond me why so many people are now complaining about it . Pokemon games typically get 4 1 / 2 star ratings on Amazon , and Platinum is now poised to have the worst rating out of any Pokemon RPG game , when in reality , it is the best . Now that that's out of the way . . . I partially gave Platinum a 5 star review to counteract some of these 2 and 3 - star reviews we're seeing , but I truly think it is a great game . If you have a DS , Platinum will give you as much fun as any other DS game you have . Very casual Pokemon fans who already own Diamond and / or Pearl might not feel the need to buy this game . More serious Pokemon fans , and newcomers to the series , on the other hand , will love this game . I have played through all 13 previous Pokemon RPG games , as well as the Gamecube games , several times each , and Platinum still captivated me enough to get me playing for 5 straight hours without a break ! ( Not exactly the healthiest thing to do on a regular basis , but parents , think about the possibilities of getting your kids to sit quietly for a few moments . . . ) As mentioned above , Platinum is essentially a remake of Diamond and Pearl , but with enhancements . The storyline is tweaked a bit to keep things interesting , and there is a new legendary Pokemon for you to capture . Some places have been redesigned , and there are new characters . A very welcome addition is a new Battle Frontier , back from Emerald version . The Battle Frontier will keep you playing hours after you complete the main quest . Besides all the new changes , the raw appeal of catching Pokemon , training them , and battling with them is ever present in Platinum version , and really , isn't that the reason these games are so loved , anyway ? Ultimately I give Platinum version a heartfelt recommendation because it is fun , will provide hours and hours of gameplay , and is accessible , yet challenging . Platinum is the best Pokemon game . Newcomers , start here . Oldtimers . . . you know what to do .

Lets see . . . . you get Dialga AND Palkia in this game , about HALF the Gyms got revamped with new graphics & style ( Pretty much most of the game has gotten additions & some texture changes ) , all the trainers have different pokemon now , Distortion World which is a unique & interesting place not to mention the huge storyline built around it and Giratina . Also , you have the Battle Frontier with five different areas to explore . . . you can buy your own Resort House , a Top Trainer Cafe , five new Rotom forms and so much more ! So what are you waiting for ? Quit listening to me now and go buy it !
• 016 4  I never played a lot of pokemon games , but I remember Pokemon XD that I had on my GameCube and how much fun I had with it . Platinum is just as much fun , but I do wish they would actually show the pokemon using their moves in battle . It doesn't even have to be a 3D look to it . They could just flash a cartoon short of the pokemon using it's moves . Still fun battling , leveling up , and evolving pokemon though . I don't like to rush through the game , I like to level up and evolve as many pokemon as possible . As you can probably guess , this game is really taking me for ever . I've never had Pokemon Diamond / Pearl , but you can still trade someone else for the same pokemon .

In order to catch all 493 + Pokemon , you must have access to the old GameBoy games and be able to insert the cartridge while playing . That means if you only have a Nintendo DSi ( like me ) , then you're up a creek without a paddle . But wait , you could theoretically trade with a buddy assuming your WiFi security is crippled to allow only WEP pass codes . If you use WPA2 , you're up a creek without a paddle ( again ) if you want to use Nintendo Wi-Fi connection inside the game . It just won't accept a WPA2 passcode even if your DSi will connect ( using the advanced setup for WiFi ) . Long story short , if you want to catch and train every single Pokemon possible , make sure you at least have the capability to load a GBA cartridge , have a buddy with access to the hardware / games , and use a crippled WiFi connection that depends on WEP passcodes . The graphics are awesome in my opinion . I love how many of the Pokemon are depicted in a warm and friendly manner . Even the fiercest of Pokemon look relatively docile in the artwork . The sound and music are apropro for the game , while the controls are very intuitive . If you've played a turn-based RPG game like Final Fantasy , Pokemon Platinum will be almost second nature . I took my time and was able to defeat Cyrus within 40 hours of gameplay . However , there's also the Elite Four of the Pokemon League along with other side quests to capture legendary Pokemon . The level grinding took the most time . I also do not like how I have to buy health replenishing items or status healers . Games like Oblivion have done away with the need to buy 30,000 health potions . Using healing magic or abilities would have been nice in Pokemon , or even health regeneration . Running back / forth to the Pokemon centers became a pain in the butt . Granted , the Pokemon game engine was developed more than a decade ago , but Nintendo could have put the effort to refresh it a little . I do not have time to play Pokemon all the time , so I delegated level grinding as a chore whenever I have to fly on business . The countless hours spent waiting at the airport and sitting on the plane are now put to use leveling up my Pokemon . Pros : Awesome artwork ! The Pokemon look very friendly , cute , and huggable . I owned the original Redand Blue versions , Yellow , Silver & Gold versions and Ruby Version and Ruby was the last pokemon game i bought and that was about 5 years ago so i havent played Pokemon in a while . got Pokemon Platinum on release date so I have been playin it non-stop for 2 weeks clockin in about 60 hours in the game now . I have finished the main story but there is enough extras in here to keep gamers occupied . I didn't buy the Diamond and Pearl versions so I wouldn't know the differences between them and Platinum , but it doesn't matter to me at all , the game is a bunch of fun and could kill your social life seriously . The thing about Pokemon that appeals to people is the fact that it is so addicting to play , you basically catch Pokemon , train em and battle with them . Just leveling up your Pokemon is fun alone , about half my time playin Platinum is mainly just training and leveling up my pokemon . The story ( as all pokemon games ) is about YOU the trainer about becoming the best trainer in the region , its a tiresome formula in the Pokemon universe but it won't really matter as much . There are about 210 pokemon in the main game and 493 pokemon in the entire universe that you can get by hacking or trading w / other people . I personally like the game , nothing major has changed that differs from the previous pokemon games but it seems to work cuz its still gonna sell millions if not otherwise . Gameplay - if you've played previous pokemon games den you should feel rite at home . You still can only carry 6 pokemon , they still can only have 4 moves and you can level them up to 100 at max . The battles themselves are more interesting in this game , the new animations for the attacks are nice to see . Same pokemon formula so its a good and bad thing . 4 / 5 Graphics - now in pokemon games , graphics are the least important things to worry about , but since it is on the DS you should expect amazing graphics . This is simply not the case , its a 2D RPG but they have added sum 3D elements to make it less repetitive with the scenaries . Not bad tho . 4 / 5 Sound - no voice actors , but the music in the game is amazing . The music ranges from lighthearted sounds when you stroll down town to epic sounds when you are about to enter the battle . The music in Pokemon is THE most important thing in this game . I personally love the music and sounds in the game . 5 / 5 Fun Factor - even though the formula hasn't changed , its still the fun addicting game thats reputation still remains ever since its launch back in 1998 . Pokemon Platinum is a fun game that beats the rest of the other pokemon games , and since it is a remake of Diamond and Pearl it remains the best Pokemon game ever made . Still Fun , Still Addicting . 4.5 / 5

• 099 4  I was around 11 or so when the original Pokemon games and cards came into existance ( when the craze began ) . I collected the cards and played the Red and Blue versions on my gameboy . It was probably the most addicting game / franchise ever . But over the years I sold the pokemon cards and sort of lost touch with the series , only picking up my Red / Blue version every now and then . However , after buying my Nintendo ds , I was looking for a fun , addicting game that would keep me interested for longer than an hour . I heard great things about the Diamond / Pearl / Platinum versions for the ds and decided to give Pokemon another go . I'm so glad I did . I haven't beaten the game yet ; I'm only about 13 hours into it , but I do feel I've played it enough to talk about it . I'm not going to go into graphics / tech stuff . I'm not really qualified to do all that . What I will do is say how I pretty much can't put it down . There are a LOT of new pokemon to catch ( remember , I've just played Red and Blue ) , while still keeping some of the favorites . I like the fact that you can play as a boy or girl , and the double battling is pretty neat as well . Playing the Red / Blue version , I was just trying to beat the game , not going slowly enough to catch a lot of different pokemon or level up more than 2 or 3 different Pokemon . With this game , I find myself really trying to get a good and diverse team of Pokemon , instead of just using my starter . That's probably due to an increase in age and maturity , though ( patience is a virtue ) . But I would suggest that all players do the same . Ok , getting off my rant . If you're looking for a fun and addicting game , even if you've never tried Pokemon before , get this game . If you already have Diamond and / or Pearl , only get this if you are a hardcore pokemon fan . I'm assuming Platinum is pretty much the same as those , with minor additions ( like Red / Blue / Yellow ) . One more thing , is it just me or is the act of actually catching a Pokemon a lot more difficult than it used to be ? I found that even with low level , easy pokemon , I would get it down in the red and it would still escape my poke-ball ! Weird . . .

I own Ruby and FireRed , and Platinum is just as good , if not better in some aspects . Since it's a remake of Diamond / Pearl , don't expect a brand new story . I'm not exactly sure what features are different than those two but you can read about it [ . . . ] One of my biggest complaints is the fact that it's very hard to get specific pokemon from the online trading service , as most players request legendary pokemon in return for more common ones . Also , some pokemon only evolve after being traded with certain items or without , and it is nearly impossible to recieve an identical pokemon ( holding specific item , etc ) over this service unless you are coordinating with a friend . Haven't finished it yet , but quickly addicted . Final impressions - good buy , if you like Pokemon ( and didn't already play Diamond / Pearl ) you'll love Platinum .

Pokemon Platinum , even though i was a veteran pokemon player still got me addicted for 3 hours straight ( ima straight A student all people and i dont spend even 2 hours straight playing games , so this is truly a first ) the story line is tweecked to continue to be interesting and i like the addition of the disortion world . very fun and nice . and the gameplay is great too . for veterans the only complaint i can think of is the storyline may be too similar to D and P , but thats only a minor defect . overall i still love this game and recommend it to any gamer .

This is the first time , though , that I haven't finished the game within a few weeks of buying it . I've got a few other games I'm playing through . . . Ex . EV and IV training , wi-fi battles , and really intimate and competitive gameplay of this game makes Platinum better for several reasons . Graphics : - There's actually a slight color improvement compared to diamond and pearl . - The distortion world is very nice and artistic although I wouldn't recommend buying the game because of 10 minutes . - Unlike Diamond & Pearl , when the pokemon are battling , their backs are more animated . ( The pokemon swerves to make the game look lively ) - Unlike Diamond & Pearl , trainers are now animated when they send out their pokemon . - Unlike Diamond & Pearl , some maps are entirely refurbished to look nicer . ( new sprites ) Gameplay : - I'm not sure if it's available in Platinum , but in this game the exact same legendary pokemon you encounter the first time will respond if you accidently knock it out in the battle . - Unlike Diamond and Pearl , you can catch both Palkia and Dialga together after you beat the elite four . - Unlike Diamond & Pearl , Accuracy of Hypnosis was changed back to 60% - Unlike Diamond & Pearl , at the Fuego Ironworks , you an trade a single star piece for each type of shards . This makes a huge deal because shards of different color lets move tutors teach your pokemon really nice attacks for competitive gameplay . Wi-Fi : - Really flexible and easy to connect online . - GTS has nice new layout but unlike Diamond & Pearl , there is a bug that unable you to see levels of other pokemon that people want when you trade . It just makes it slightly annoying at times . Mystery Gift : - Platinum was able to download in seconds on wi-fi several really nice downloads that were exclusive to the game , such as the key items to encounter Darkrai and Shaymin . - Darkrai was able to get caught in the actual game so you could select the IV and nature of the pokemon : ) Same goes for shaymin . The New Pokemon Form : - The new pokemon form are really nice as they give you entirely new builds for your pokemon . Shaymin's new form example makes it into a true legendary pokemon ; the old form was really inferior . - The problem with the new form is that you can't trade it away to diamond and pearl and Pokemon Battle Revolution doesn't acknowledge the new form . Survival Area - A new map that now enables you to battle several gym leaders that you beat once a day and they improve . - You also get to decorate your own villa home with all the luxurious achievements . The only problem is the items are put in fixed spots when you decorate but they still look really really nice . Move Tutor : - New pokemon tutors are added to the game with REALLY nice new attacks that will entirely determine a winning match . For example , you can now teach Mew how to use synthesis which is a HUGE deal . My Only Complaint ? - It's more of a complaint towards Pokemon Battle Revolution as I can't battle with my new pokemon forms on the wii . Conclusion : If you're a competitive pokemon player that does EV and IV training , this game is what you're looking for . Platinum was practically designed for competitive gameplay . Just remember that wi-fi connection is what makes this game beautiful . But if you already have Diamond and Pearl and you're a casual player with little knowledge of EV and IV training , this game isn't recommended .

However , I have now progressed past my second gym badge , and am finding the story really boring . Mostly it's just a repeat of the things in Diamond , except team Galactic seems to have a much lesser role here . I do expect to complete the game ( taking my time while doing so , and hoping to enjoy it ) but I don't even have the exciting feeling that I had on Sunday morning before picking up my copy . I'm disappointed . But if this were your first Pokemon game , it would probably be a good one . It's only in comparison with Diamond / Pearl that it seems to suffer .

It had a few parts in the game that were different then Gold or Silver , it had a different Legendary Pokemon that the game was centered around , but over all , the game was similar . A few more Legendary Pokemon are now available in Platinum that were not in Pearl and Diamond too . The award for most anti climatic story mode and no buildup what so ever goes to : Pokemon platinum ! The only good thing about the game is the graphics . Please ignore the rating , this is a three star game . I edited the review . And the pokemon are boring also , like giratina . A legendary that has no powers at all except good in battle . My infernape is pretty weak , and its better than giratina by a long shot . Like i said , not good story mode , making a terrible post game . And there are way too many legendaries that try to act as the ones from R / S / E . Regigigas i level 1 , and they make a big deal out of nothing for a level 50 heatran . They added an old man called charon as a commander who does nothing at all in the story mode . This game seemed to be rushed just to get a game out to keep the company going . I really hope the next games are better than this one , cause it is truly a disappointer for me . If you bought diamond or pearl , dont buy this . If you didnt buy either and want this , save your money and buy a much better pokemon game like ruby , sapphire , emerald , or any of the mystery dungeon games . • 121 4  I do believe this is a good game . Obviously , if you were considering this game you know it is just a remake of Diamond and Pearl versions . Although it is a remake , it is still fun . It extends the Sinnoh Pokedex to 210 and introduces new pokemon , plus you can catch Dialga AND Palkia . Not to mention the three legendary birds from the original Kanto region , Articuno , Moltres , and Zapdos . The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is only because I felt the change of pokemon the Elite Four have was not for the best . But still , great game .

Unfortunately , the solution is to call Nintendo support , have some patience , and then mail the game cartridge in for repair , which will result in your current saved game being erased ! Ugh . • Pokemon Platinum ( Video Game ) I was around 11 or so when the original Pokemon games and cards came into existance ( when the craze began ) . I collected the cards and played the Red and Blue versions on my gameboy . It was probably the most addicting game / franchise ever . But over the years I sold the pokemon cards and sort of lost touch with the series , only picking up my Red / Blue version every now and then . However , after buying my Nintendo ds , I was looking for a fun , addicting game that would keep me interested for longer than an hour . I heard great things about the Diamond / Pearl / Platinum versions for the ds and decided to give Pokemon another go . I'm so glad I did . I haven't beaten the game yet ; I'm only about 13 hours into it , but I do feel I've played it enough to talk about it . I'm not going to go into graphics / tech stuff . I'm not really qualified to do all that . What I will do is say how I pretty much can't put it down . There are a LOT of new pokemon to catch ( remember , I've just played Red and Blue ) , while still keeping some of the favorites . I like the fact that you can play as a boy or girl , and the double battling is pretty neat as well . Playing the Red / Blue version , I was just trying to beat the game , not going slowly enough to catch a lot of different pokemon or level up more than 2 or 3 different Pokemon . With this game , I find myself really trying to get a good and diverse team of Pokemon , instead of just using my starter . That's probably due to an increase in age and maturity , though ( patience is a virtue ) . But I would suggest that all players do the same . Ok , getting off my rant . I was eagerly looking forward to receiving Platinum , and even more so when I read about the new features and different story line . However , I have now progressed past my second gym badge , and am finding the story really boring . Mostly it's just a repeat of the things in Diamond , except team Galactic seems to have a much lesser role here . I do expect to complete the game ( taking my time while doing so , and hoping to enjoy it ) but I don't even have the exciting feeling that I had on Sunday morning before picking up my copy . I'm disappointed . But if this were your first Pokemon game , it would probably be a good one . It's only in comparison with Diamond / Pearl that it seems to suffer .

• 047 4  The game is very good . it has better animations and many of the gyms and the elite four are much more of a challenge . the only downside is that , though enhanced , it is still basically diamond and pearl . if they changed the storyline more or heck even allowed access to other generation starters the game would get 5 / 5 . that aside it is still the best pokemon game to date and i look forward to spending a lot of time on wi-fi .

Grass may be strong against water , for example but grass is also weak against fire , but in turn , fire is weak versus water . This effect plays through with seventeen and different types , and there is no best type because every type has a weakness . It's because of this element that Pokemon is so much fun to play . Just trying to construct the perfect team will take you more than a day , and with over 100 new creatures to collect , you can form endless amounts of teams . Just catching all the Pokemon alone will keep you busy for well over 50 hours . To add to the effect you'll face several other trainers as well , and you never know what they'll throw at you . Your strongest Pokemon may very well become your weakest in certain battles just because of its type . The battle system itself is made even simpler by the touch screen . Where as before you were scrolling through menus , battling can simply be done by touching the different options on screen . It makes battling a lot faster , especially because the icons are pretty big . Luckily , there's never really a point where you have to use the touch screen if you don't want to , and battling can still be done the old fashioned way if you so choose . As with Ruby and Sapphire there are also moments of two on two battles . Usually they come with either two trainers taking you on at a time , and you'll send out the two Pokemon in your top roster , or you'll be with another trainer who will send out his or her Pokemon with yours . It adds to the strategic feel of the game , but the moments of two on two battles are pretty few and far between . Pokemon Platinum adds a couple of new things , though not much . Most notable is , of course , is the distortion world . Aside from this there's not that big of a motive to get Pokemon Platinum if you mastered one of the other two versions . It's great if you don't have either one , but it's hard to want to pick up Platinum just for the Distortion World alone . There are a couple of other little goodies sprinkled about , including improvements in the online factor of the game , but it's still essentially the same game you got two years ago . And for the most part , that isn't bad . The Pokemon games in and of themselves are full of little hidden secrets . There's so much you can do after the main quest is over . You can also enter into different contests as well as go after legendary Pokemon . Pokemon can easily keep any gamer busy for well over fifty hours . Pokemon has never really been a game you go after for eye-candy . There are some moments where some 3D effects come out , but not very many . The sprites are more or less the same sprites they've been using since the Red and Blue versions . Ideally , the game doesn't look all that much of a step up from Ruby and Sapphire , and they were not fantastic looking games either . It's really colorful , but the DS is capable of so much more than this . Likewise , in battle is still the same . Fun to do it , but the Pokemon still only flinch to attack , and there aren't a lot of animations going on , and we're still looking over the Pokemon's shoulder . Essentially , the combat engine hasn't changed since the series first outing in 1998 . There are some move animations that look really good , but aside from that it's hard to look past the simple fact that the game's combat engine hasn't really evolved since the original games came out way back in 1998 . This isn't the original Gameboy , this is the Nintendo DS . The sound is also no exception . A lot of it sounds really tinny . Most of the sound effects such as the Pokemon's cries are ripped straight from - - you guessed it - - the original Gameboy versions released in 1998 . That's not to say all the tunes sound bad , it's just to say that a lot of what you're going to hear is recycled . While the sound effects are dated , the music certainly isn't . It's upbeat and keeps you on your toes . In the end , the production values aren't exactly something that'll disappoint you . Though it might still be nice if someday Pokemon could get an update . It's still an improvement . Despite the games graphics and sound , Pokemon Platinum is still an excellent title . If you don't have Diamond or Pearl , you might as well pick up this one . Yellow was an enhanced version of Red and Blue ; Crystal was an enhanced version of Gold and Silver ; Emerald was an enhanced version of Ruby and Sapphire ; and now , Platinum is an enhanced version of Diamond and Pearl . This is how the Pokemon games have always worked , so it is beyond me why so many people are now complaining about it . Pokemon games typically get 4 1 / 2 star ratings on Amazon , and Platinum is now poised to have the worst rating out of any Pokemon RPG game , when in reality , it is the best . Now that that's out of the way . . . I partially gave Platinum a 5 star review to counteract some of these 2 and 3 - star reviews we're seeing , but I truly think it is a great game . If you have a DS , Platinum will give you as much fun as any other DS game you have . Very casual Pokemon fans who already own Diamond and / or Pearl might not feel the need to buy this game . More serious Pokemon fans , and newcomers to the series , on the other hand , will love this game . I have played through all 13 previous Pokemon RPG games , as well as the Gamecube games , several times each , and Platinum still captivated me enough to get me playing for 5 straight hours without a break ! ( Not exactly the healthiest thing to do on a regular basis , but parents , think about the possibilities of getting your kids to sit quietly for a few moments . . . ) As mentioned above , Platinum is essentially a remake of Diamond and Pearl , but with enhancements . The storyline is tweaked a bit to keep things interesting , and there is a new legendary Pokemon for you to capture . Some places have been redesigned , and there are new characters . A very welcome addition is a new Battle Frontier , back from Emerald version . The Battle Frontier will keep you playing hours after you complete the main quest . Besides all the new changes , the raw appeal of catching Pokemon , training them , and battling with them is ever present in Platinum version , and really , isn't that the reason these games are so loved , anyway ? Ultimately I give Platinum version a heartfelt recommendation because it is fun , will provide hours and hours of gameplay , and is accessible , yet challenging . Platinum is the best Pokemon game . I didn't buy the Diamond and Pearl versions so I wouldn't know the differences between them and Platinum , but it doesn't matter to me at all , the game is a bunch of fun and could kill your social life seriously . The thing about Pokemon that appeals to people is the fact that it is so addicting to play , you basically catch Pokemon , train em and battle with them . Just leveling up your Pokemon is fun alone , about half my time playin Platinum is mainly just training and leveling up my pokemon . The story ( as all pokemon games ) is about YOU the trainer about becoming the best trainer in the region , its a tiresome formula in the Pokemon universe but it won't really matter as much . There are about 210 pokemon in the main game and 493 pokemon in the entire universe that you can get by hacking or trading w / other people . I personally like the game , nothing major has changed that differs from the previous pokemon games but it seems to work cuz its still gonna sell millions if not otherwise . Gameplay - if you've played previous pokemon games den you should feel rite at home . You still can only carry 6 pokemon , they still can only have 4 moves and you can level them up to 100 at max . The battles themselves are more interesting in this game , the new animations for the attacks are nice to see . Same pokemon formula so its a good and bad thing . 4 / 5 Graphics - now in pokemon games , graphics are the least important things to worry about , but since it is on the DS you should expect amazing graphics . This is simply not the case , its a 2D RPG but they have added sum 3D elements to make it less repetitive with the scenaries . Not bad tho . 4 / 5 Sound - no voice actors , but the music in the game is amazing . The music ranges from lighthearted sounds when you stroll down town to epic sounds when you are about to enter the battle . The music in Pokemon is THE most important thing in this game . I personally love the music and sounds in the game . 5 / 5 Fun Factor - even though the formula hasn't changed , its still the fun addicting game thats reputation still remains ever since its launch back in 1998 . • Pokemon Platinum ( Video Game ) Stop giving nintendo more reasons to keep recycling these pokemon games . They go in and do a few changes and slap a new version and they have the blind consumers eating out of their hands . They simply went into the pictoral dictionary and made a cartoon version of all the creatures we know of and call it a pokemon . I own Ruby and FireRed , and Platinum is just as good , if not better in some aspects . Since it's a remake of Diamond / Pearl , don't expect a brand new story . I'm not exactly sure what features are different than those two but you can read about it [ . . . ] One of my biggest complaints is the fact that it's very hard to get specific pokemon from the online trading service , as most players request legendary pokemon in return for more common ones . Also , some pokemon only evolve after being traded with certain items or without , and it is nearly impossible to recieve an identical pokemon ( holding specific item , etc ) over this service unless you are coordinating with a friend . Haven't finished it yet , but quickly addicted . Final impressions - good buy , if you like Pokemon ( and didn't already play Diamond / Pearl ) you'll love Platinum .

It is still fun , and just different enough for me to enjoy playing through it , at least until I was affected by what turns out to be a widespread bug in the game . It may only affect you if you use the GTS for trading Pokemon , and details are at and various other places if you do a search . Unfortunately , the solution is to call Nintendo support , have some patience , and then mail the game cartridge in for repair , which will result in your current saved game being erased ! Ugh . I just mailed mine in , so I hope it will actually be fixed .

If you are a Pokemon fan and you collect the games , I would not miss out on buying it though . A good example to use is the classic game , Pokemon Gold and Silver Version . Nintendo later made Pokemon Crystal Version . It had a few parts in the game that were different then Gold or Silver , it had a different Legendary Pokemon that the game was centered around , but over all , the game was similar . In my opinion , Pokemon Platinum was a step up than Pokemon Crystal . It actually has much more after the game that Pearl and Diamond didn't have . A few more Legendary Pokemon are now available in Platinum that were not in Pearl and Diamond too . So , if your a Pokemon game collector , or just a fan of Pokemon , I wouldn't miss out on Pokemon Platinum . It's like playing Pearl and Diamond all over again only twice more better and funner . Pokemon Platinum Version is a must have . . .

Pokemon Platinum , even though i was a veteran pokemon player still got me addicted for 3 hours straight ( ima straight A student all people and i dont spend even 2 hours straight playing games , so this is truly a first ) the story line is tweecked to continue to be interesting and i like the addition of the disortion world . very fun and nice . and the gameplay is great too . for veterans the only complaint i can think of is the storyline may be too similar to D and P , but thats only a minor defect . overall i still love this game and recommend it to any gamer .
