I'm going to start off by saying that I am almost twenty , but I still wanted to play this game . It has been very fun so far because I am in college , and I need some entertainment during my downtime . I played red version back when it came out . I was nine years old and i thought it was the coolest game ever . I really didn't play any others because at about that time it became uncool at my age to do anything pokemon . After seeing commercials for this and reading a review , i decided to just try it . From what I have heard this was one of the best pokemon games ever released , and that gave me the urge to try this remake more than anything . It has sixteen badges to win instead of just eight , and there are more pokemon to catch . This game , even though it is targeted at a younger audience , can be fun for older people with an open mind . People my age and a bit older / younger were just growing up when this franchise was starting out , so thats why it seems that many older people are still playing it .
I would say this is really fun because of the day / night thing that matches up to the clock set on the ds . The red version never had that , so it has been fun for me . It also has a nice look . Many complain about how pokemon could do better , but i think it is plenty detailed to be fun . It is a portable game , and really brand new shiny 3d looks aren't gonna matter as much when the fun factor is high enough . The pokemon are fun to catch and train , and the story is fun as well . I definitely think that people wanting to chill out and have some fun should pick this up . As i said earlier , it might be geared for a younger audience , but it is still challenging for me . Training and leveling is entertaining , and striving to catch all the neat looking pokemon i come across is fun . People , just don't judge this before you try it .
I can't say anything about the pokewalker because i really don't feel like walking around with a pokeball on my pocket , and it is a little gimmicky ( kinda like blowing in the mic on other ds games ) . Atleast people didn't have to pay extra for it . I won't knock anyone that wants to use it or play with it , but its just not something for me .
At the end of the day , try this game . Its really high on the nostalgia factor , and its a fun game to play with many ways to strategize . Honestly , all the different types of pokemon ( earth , fire , water , lightning , ect . ) really add to the difficulty factor . I think people with a ds that want to try a fun , long rpg should just give this a whirl . With the online things , mini-games , 16 badges , tons of pokemon , etc , this game is worth it .

The pokewalker is basically a pokemon mini-game but pretty high tech . It represents the core of the DS gameplay even in its limited way but enough so to be fun .
When you transfer a pokemon into the walker , the actual picture of the pokemon you transferred shows up on the little screen . Given that you can migrate pokemon across all the games one way or another , I suspect it supports every pokemon in any game .
By walking around ( or by holding it in your hand and pretending to walk ; - > ) you gain ' watts ' , 1 for every 20 steps . You then spend the watts on 2 mini-games . Pokeradar allows you to find and battle / capture a wild pokemon on the walker itself . Dowsing gives you a chance to find items . Yes , I do actually know that Heart Gold is a remake of the original Pokemon Gold , but sometimes when you're playing you forget . The updated graphics for the DS are great , and really give a new feel to the game . Also , additions of the Battle Frontier and Pal Park from the Diamond / Pearl / Platinum series adds so much more to the game , as well as the addition of the new Pokeathelon games . Nintendo also kept the best part of the game , which is being able to go back to the world from Pokemon FireRed / LeafGreen and replay through there as well , effectively making it 2 games in 1 ! There's enough game to go around , and even if you speed through all 16 gym leaders and elite 4 and champion , with all the extras you'll never find that the game was too short . And with these remakes , it is finally possible to get pokemon from all the generations onto one game . . . you can finally catch them all !

The release of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver did a lot around here for me and my family / friends . Namely , it got three of us to rush out and get copies to play a pokemon game . Pokemon HeartGold is my first real experience with Pokemon and is a return to the series for my boyfriend , Jay , and my brother , Shawn , who both stopped playing the series after the original Gold and Silver came out .
We are all very happy with Gold and Silver . The graphics are nice , the music is well done , even going so far as to include a way to hear the original music if you want to . The gameplay is interesting : a fun turn based system ( my favorite type of game style , personally ) with the addition of double battles , minigames , etc . to make things more interesting for those ( ahem , bf & brother ) who've been down this road before . On top of all this , there is also the PokeWalker , which is really cool too . ( Quick Tip : Lay your DS and the PokeWalker on a flat surface if you are having trouble connecting them . Shaking hards , even * slightly * can mess this up ! )
No game is for everyone , but if you are thinking about getting this one I would say go for it . I can foresee this keeping my group busy for quite some time . Excellent product and ( as a side note ) quick and efficient delivery from Amazon.ca as well . All around very pleased .

This game is awesome . It's kinda funny cause me and my sister were both disappointed when we figured out that the DS couldn't play the older Gameboy games . We were going to start the original Gold and Silver version because that was are favorite Pokemon game yet . But then , only a few months later , Nintendo made a new Pokemon game , and of all the remakes they could have made , the made a remake of Gold and Silver . We were VERY excited . Actually , I am very happy that they didn't change anything from the original . If you agree with me about Gold and Silver being the best Pokemon game , then your should buy Heart Gold and Soul Silver , cause they are just as good and even better .

As always , Nintendo's pokemon series gives a fantastic performance . The gameplay is as addictive as ever , and I'm having a lot of fun using the pokewalker ! My only complaint is that at first , the story is a little rushed , but once you reach Azalea town , it picks up . Great game !

when I bought this game , I was worried that it would just be a dumb remake and a huge snoozer . But I was wrong . I haven't played Gold in years . Having a DS totally blocked you off from the game . And now here it is with improvements . The graphics are amazing . And i think what they did with the bottom screen was the best thing they ever did . They placed the MENU on the bottom for easy access and an extremely simple to use tool . And now you can run continually without pressing B the whole time . Super happy about that.Having your pokemon walk behind you is great because IMO it makes it more personal . I love the animation styles .

My son is nine , and he has been playing the pokemon games since he was about three . I was so excited to get this game that I got it the opening week . When I finally got to play the game , I got sucked in right away . Pokemon's motto ( Gotta Catch ' Em All ) really states how I feel when I play the Pokemon games , watch the shows , collect the cards , and even collecting the Pokemon plush .
The game plot is for you to be the greatest Pokemon trainer , get all eight Gym Badges , complete the Pokedex , challenge the Elite Four , and after that you start on the Kanto Region . I have spent 50 hours on the game and I have reached all eight Gym Badges and have met and captured Ho-Oh ( I named him Oh-Ho ) . I am now trying to beat the Elite Four , which is very hard because you challenge them all in a row ( no brakes , you can't even go to the Poke Mart or Pokemon Center ) I am so glad I spent the $5o on this game , it is clearly worth the money , it is a long game , and looks like it has high re playability . The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is a great addition too .

They moved the menu , so that now it is on the bottom screen which is incredibly useful and means you don't even have to press buttons if you don't want to . Less hand cramps that way . There are several new things for you to do but none of it takes away from the main storyline and in fact adds to it . This is a must have for anyone who loved Gold / Silver . Having any pokemon able to walk behind you as an adorable little sprite is one of the best ideas ever , though simple . It really gives the game a more personal feel , a lot like Yellow did .

when i first heard they were going to remake the original Gold and Silver version i was extremely excited to hear about this . i stopped following pokemon after crystal version came out and to hear that Nintendo was going to go back to the old school games i was happy to know that they had not forgotten about us folks that loved the original pokemon from the 90 ' s .
Fun Factor : if you played any of the previous pokemon games and liked them then your going to love this game . it follows the same format of the other games .
Graphics : for someone who hasn't played a pokemon game since crystal version the graphics on this game are great . its always nice to be able to look at a pokemon and know exactly who it is . the towns look great and you can tell a lot of time was put into remaking the towns from Gold and Silver .
New Features : a nice new feature that they added was the ability to have whatever pokemon you choose to follow you around from outside the pokeball . Back in pokemon Yellow they first introduced this by letting Pikachu follow you around and that was the only pokemon that was able to follow you . now you can make any pokemon follow you around and they look great ! they took their time to draw out all the pokemon so you can actually tell who it is that follows you and not to mention that when they evolve they change the way they look so you never get a general look to any pokemon . Don't let any nay-sayers get you wrong , these games are amazing .
But they're just the same thing as Crystal , but with better graphics ! Gamefreak just did this for a quick buck ! Hardly . For one , this game was in production for about 2 years ( 07 ' - 09 ) , the same amount of time that the original Gold and Silver were in production for ( ' 97 - ' 99 ) . And two , so what if they only made the remake because they knew it would make them money ( hmmm . . . why would they ever think that . . . oh , right , because people were asking for / expecting it . . . ) ? They did a great enough job with it that I could care less why they made them .
They've struck a perfect balance of change ; enough to make the games interesting and give them another go , but also not too much as to upset the long-time fans ( like myself ) . I was really worried with this one , that they would change too much . But they didn't , and I will say that these REMAKES ( remember what a remake means ? It's not changing the whole game . remaking is making an older , out-of date thing more modern . ) Which is exactly what Gamefreak did with these games , old players of Gold and Silver will know just what to do , and there is plenty of added content to keep you busy for the next hundreds of hours
I've had just as much fun , if not , more , with HeartGold than I had with Gold 10 years ago .
The Pokewalker is great , which is another thing I didn't expect to really take to . And while it can sometimes get weird ( with Pokemon like Lugia following you ) the following mechanic present in Yellow ( with Pikachu ) is really great , and I love turning around to see what's up with my Pokemon . The Pokeathalon is also an awesome addition to the games .

I am admittedly new to the world of pokemon videogaming , however I must advise that you do not ignore the assertions that this is a remake of Pokemon crystal . Once upon a time there were 2 games called Pokemon Gold and Silver . They were fun games and every kid bought them , so Nintendo had a great idea to make a game called Pokemon Crystal which was the same games with some extras . Now Nintendo got greedy and made a 4th and 5th version of the SAME GAME ! ! ! ! So if you bought every version of this game when they were new you would have spent over 175 dollars on different versions of the same game .
Pokemon HeartGold Version ( Video Game )
The original Pokemon Gold and Silver are considered by fans to be some of the best Pokemon games ever created . They introduced an innovative time of day system , where the environment changed with the time in the real world . In particular , the types of Pokemon players could catch in certain areas at certain times of the time or certain events would only happen at specific times of day . It gave the a games a more realistic flavor , and game it an extra dimension - an extra challenge - players have to understand in order to catch ' em all .
But sadly , there was an unexpected consequence of the time of day system . In order to keep the time , there was a small internal battery that ran constantly - even when the game was off . Unfortunately , as time went on the internal battery drained away , making it impossible to save your game . Some of the more tech-savy players were able to open the cartridges up and replace the battery , but most players could not , leaving many older versions of Gold and Silver virtually unplayable . Thus , Nintendo decided to release new versions of both games on the DS called HeartGold and SoulSilver .
In HeartGold , just like in other Pokemon games , you start the game as a new trainer who is out to capture all the Pokemon out there . You train your Pokemon , beat other trainers , gain experience , win gym badges , battle your friends , be the best and , most of all , catch ' em all . Best of all , after finishing the game , you unlock a new area when you can play through the areas from the original Pokemon Red and Blue games .
The original Pokemon Gold has been given a massive face-lift to look like a modern DS game and the creators have packed the game with plenty of nifty little extras . Probably my favorite was the addition of the Safari Zone , which had to be cut from the original game due to space limitations on the old GBA cartridges . This version is also equipped with the WiFi abilities of the Pokemon DS games , and is fully compatible with them , so friends can challenge one another to head-on Pokemon battles or minigames . Perhaps the best thing this game brings to the table is the fact that , with HeartGold , the original 150 Pokemon are now available on the DS , meaning that every Pokemon in existence is now part of the DS universe . HeartGold even utilizes the touch screen completely , maybe even a little more-so than the other Pokemon DS games .
HeartGold also has the Pokewalker , which is essentially an updated Pocket Pikachu , which allows you to upload a Pokemon to the Pokewalker and take them with you . The walker serves a pedometer , where a Pokemon gains experience as the player takes more steps . It's a great item , though somewhat gimmicky , and gives the game an extra incentive to purchase it . I have to admit that I wasn't completely happy with it though , the infrared connection to the game seemed incredibly weak , and it didn't add a great deal to the game overall . I could do without it , but I wouldn't consider it a complete waste . Maybe this will help battle childhood obesity ? I can easily see some kid running around outside with the Pokewalker just to get experience for their Pokemon .
While there has been some criticism out there that HeartGold and SoulSilver are just lazy remakes of Gold and Silver , I think it was needed due to the battery issues in the older games , particularly since Gold and Silver were placed in such high regard by fans . HeartGold is the ultimate nostalgia game for Pokemon fans , and perfect for long-time fans and newer , younger fans .

I , like many other players of this game , played the original Gold vesion for the Game Boy Color , and I loved it . I remember nights hiding under my covers with the game holding a booklight to see ( or , when it came out , the GBA SP with the lighted screen )
When I heard about this remake , I was very excited , especially after seeing some of the new features upcoming . I had already played Platinum , so the DS graphics were nothing new to me .
Very excitedly , I got myself this game yesterday ( Release day ) and hurried home to play it . I was quite surprised to find that , not only was it more up-to-date than Gold , but in some ways , it was even more up-to-date than Platinum , especially through the utilization of the touch screen .
WHAT I LIKE :
* Return to Johto - Very simply , you retuern to the setting of Gold and play the game again with new features ( Hence the term remake )
* Partner Pokemon - In HG , you have the first Pokemon in your party following you at all times , like Pikachu in Yellow or Amnity Square in D P Pt . Not a huge thing , but I like it
* Updated graphics - seeing the Johto region in full , brilliant color is somehow nostalgic and a lot of fun . It's just pretty , plain and simple
* Added Safari Zone - Many were upset at the loss of the Safari Zone in Gold . Well now , there's a Safari Game again . I have yet to reach it , but I have heard good things about it .
* Utilized touch screen - This is a big one . In HG , the touch screen now serves as a touchable , interactive menu . Now , instead of hitting START every time you want to check something , you can just tap it with the stylus and use all of its features totally through the touch screen . The touch screen also has a drag-and-drop functionality in the PC boxes , allowing you to sort your boxes and your team more efficiently . This is even an upgrade over Platinum's Poketch .
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE :
* Pokewalker issues - I like the Pokewalker idea a lot , don't get me wrong . Problem is , the one I got doesn't seem to work right . Not a big deal , since it's not a pivotal part of the game . Would have been nice though . . . oh well .
OVERALL :
I have had nothing but fun with this game . Definately worth $ [ . . . ] , without a doubt . The strange feelings of nostalgia and novelty together is odd , but I like it ! 5 stars !

Not only is it a remake of Pokemon Gold , a game I very fondly purchased over 10 years ago , but also Pokemon HeartGold resembles Pokemon Yellow in letting your starter follow you . Yellow was my first ever game for my GameBoy , I was the envy of my friends who all had either Red or Blue , which featured a distracting red or blue hue . Pokemon has evolved a lot since those days , adding many new features , most of which were welcomed . Although many features have been added , the battle system has not changed much . Some do not like this , saying it needs to evolve . I for one , being a huge fan of turn based RPGs , like how it hasn't changed . I wish more RPGs today stayed true to their roots . I'm looking at you , Final Fantasy . Now why pick Gold ? Well actually I got both , along with both figurines . I did play Gold as a kid , so that's the one I decided to play first .
I am already in 70 hours in Platinum , which doesn't even have all 16 badges like HG / SS . I expect a lot of time will be spent during the course of playing HG . The re playability of Pokemon is astounding , you can't go wrong . Now only if they would remake Crystal . SpiritCrystal ?

Pretty sure everyone interested in the game knows the storyline and basic game mechanics . This game is a must have for DSi users who traded in , gave away , or sold their DS Lite .
HG / SS takes place in the Johto region , so those familiar with the Gameboy Color series will see a lot of resemblance to Crystal + Gold / Silver versions .
This does have PalPark , so migrating Pokemon is still possible from LeafGreen / FireRed . HG / SS will have the Legendary ( Kyogre , HG - Groudon , SS ) Pokemon as well as some of the regular pokemon from the cart games , including Hoenn & Kanto regions . Since the DSi doesn't have a slot for the old carts , this game creates a way to get some of those 1st - 3rd gen pokemon ( like MewTwo ) without a cart .
Why does HeartGold Trump Silver ?
HG has 1 extra fighting-type pokemon Mankey / Primeape . It also has our favorite ghost / dark-type / annoying Sabeleye , and psychic / ground-types Baltoy & Claydol .
SS has a poison types ( Gulpin / Swalot ) , and 1 ice / flying Delibird , 1 steel / flying ( the awesome Skarmory ) . But that's about it .
The pedometer is pretty kool , reeeeally not a selling point ( very very weak signal , and just makes me more conscious about some small thing I have to hook on to my belt and remember to take off before laundry day .
Cut scenes are a little different , and small touches in scenery and ambiance keep me in game , I was sooo burnt out on the cookie cutter series after Platinum .
Anyways , gotta get back to catching them all !

I'm a bit older than the target demo for this game ( as in mortgage-older ) . That said , I really have enjoyed the Pokemon games on the GBA and the DS . Sapphire ? Played it . Leaf Green ? Been there . Diamond , Pearl , and Platinum ? Check , check , and check . That said , I never played the original gold , silver , or crystal . So I was eager to get my hands on the latest outing and see how it stacked up .
Lets just say it didn't disappoint .
Heart Gold is , in many ways , much like the previous DS generation . There is that classic top down view and many of the Pokemon look the same . But there's also some nice tweaks . I like the revolving signs outside the Pokemarts . Sure , its nothing earth shattering . But its a nice touch . And that's the thing about Heart Gold / Soul Silver . It takes the established good stuff , and builds on it .
And while the nice folks at Game Freak haven't re-invented the wheel , they have put a new spin on some aspects of the game . There's the whole opened up touch screen . A lot of the options that were previously in a bit of a menu structure are now surfaced on one screen . I haven't decided if I like this yet . It does save a bit of digging , but it sure puts a lot more stuff on the screen .
The chances are good that this isn't the first Pokemon game for many players . You know what you're getting . Wander the world , and collect the elusive critters . Earn your badges , and defeat the bad guys along the way . Lots of nooks and crannies to crawl into , many little prizes to find along the way . Speaking of which . . .
There's a prize that's hidden in your Pokemon box . The Pokewalker is a device that lets players take their favorite Pokemon into the real world . Transfer a boxed Pokemon into the included pedometer / gaming device and you'll have a chance to build energy that can be transferred back to the DS after walking around for a bit . A great way for the kids to level their critters while they play in the ' big blue room ' .
This outing also includes . . . two areas , 16 badges , a Safari Zone , and tons of Pokemon to be caught and enjoyed . So keep your eyes open , watch out for Team Rocket , and take good care of that Pikachu , alright ?

I now find myself doing the same , but there is so much more to do . All the additions are incredible . The original Gold / Silver was a great game with way more to do after you beat the Elite Four than Red / Blue had , but this is a whole new level . It also has something that no other Pokémon game has : Pokéathlon . I haven't played much of that , but I've heard great things from my friends . The Battle Frontier is far more refined from D / P / Pl and now there is a Safari Zone and a Pal Park which the originals did not have . The story is still generally the same , but the extras make me keep playing . If you are reading this as someone who is unfamiliar with the series , then get started with this one . It has just about everything from every Pokémon game thrown into my favourite version ever . I'm really , really pleased with this newest release and I have very high hopes for the 5th generation .

I believe the quality of the games have dropped and making a remake was a good idea , especially when the game you are remaking has been your best effort . In particular , the types of Pokemon players could catch in certain areas at certain times of the time or certain events would only happen at specific times of day . It gave the a games a more realistic flavor , and game it an extra dimension - an extra challenge - players have to understand in order to catch ' em all .
But sadly , there was an unexpected consequence of the time of day system . In order to keep the time , there was a small internal battery that ran constantly - even when the game was off . Unfortunately , as time went on the internal battery drained away , making it impossible to save your game . Some of the more tech-savy players were able to open the cartridges up and replace the battery , but most players could not , leaving many older versions of Gold and Silver virtually unplayable . Thus , Nintendo decided to release new versions of both games on the DS called HeartGold and SoulSilver .
In HeartGold , just like in other Pokemon games , you start the game as a new trainer who is out to capture all the Pokemon out there . You train your Pokemon , beat other trainers , gain experience , win gym badges , battle your friends , be the best and , most of all , catch ' em all . Best of all , after finishing the game , you unlock a new area when you can play through the areas from the original Pokemon Red and Blue games .
The original Pokemon Gold has been given a massive face-lift to look like a modern DS game and the creators have packed the game with plenty of nifty little extras . Probably my favorite was the addition of the Safari Zone , which had to be cut from the original game due to space limitations on the old GBA cartridges . This version is also equipped with the WiFi abilities of the Pokemon DS games , and is fully compatible with them , so friends can challenge one another to head-on Pokemon battles or minigames . Perhaps the best thing this game brings to the table is the fact that , with HeartGold , the original 150 Pokemon are now available on the DS , meaning that every Pokemon in existence is now part of the DS universe . HeartGold even utilizes the touch screen completely , maybe even a little more-so than the other Pokemon DS games .
HeartGold also has the Pokewalker , which is essentially an updated Pocket Pikachu , which allows you to upload a Pokemon to the Pokewalker and take them with you . The walker serves a pedometer , where a Pokemon gains experience as the player takes more steps . It's a great item , though somewhat gimmicky , and gives the game an extra incentive to purchase it . I have to admit that I wasn't completely happy with it though , the infrared connection to the game seemed incredibly weak , and it didn't add a great deal to the game overall . I could do without it , but I wouldn't consider it a complete waste . Maybe this will help battle childhood obesity ? I can easily see some kid running around outside with the Pokewalker just to get experience for their Pokemon .

Welcome to Pokemon Crystal , version 1.01 . That's essentially what Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are : lazy , unimaginative rehashes hastily cranked out by GAME FREAK for an easy cash-in .
There is virtually ZERO new content in this game that is not present in one form or another in Pokemon Crystal or Pokemon Platinum . There are no new Pokemon species , battle moves or abilities . In other words , every Pokemon in HG / SS can be readily obtained from already-released GBA and DS Pokemon games . Even the Battle Frontier is a direct copy and paste from Pokemon Platinum with zero changes .
Unlike FireRed and LeafGreen , there isn't even a new , sizable post-game region like the Sevii Islands . Instead , new additions are inserted here and there : Battle Frontier to Olivine City , Safari Zone to Cianwood , Pal Park ( same one as D / P / Pt's - - surprised ? ) to Fuchsia City . There's a new route linking Cianwood City to Safari Zone , but that's about it . I guess GAME FREAK decided that stripped-down Kanto was enough and chose not to spend any more effort designing new areas , knowing that their rehashes would sell like hotcakes regardless .
After 11 years , almost none of the problems from the original Gold / Silver have been corrected in this incremental upgrade . The Rocket Execs , Elite Four members and gym leaders remain far too underleveled , including their rematches by the time you finally have access to them . The PokeGear is still annoying , and about once every five minutes , you'll get telephone calls from some bug catcher telling you about how awesome it is to watch his Pokemon become stronger . Kanto is still heavily watered-down , with landmarks such as Silph Co . , Pokemon Tower and Cinnabar Island being partially closed off or gutted - - and this time , the lack of cartridge space is no longer an excuse .
Only two groups will possibly find these ports of any value : ( 1 ) folks who have never played Gold / Silver / Crystal before and ( 2 ) those who have insatiable amounts of rose-tinted nostalgia for the originals .
