021 4 Sony's stuck with their controller design since the mid - 90s , and regardless of the criticism they've gotten for it , it's a design that works . The Dualshock is comfortable , light , and the buttons are all easily accessible . With this newest version , it's wireless , so no more cords in the way ! The Dualshock 3 looks nearly identical to the previous two models , but with the obvious PlayStation button in the center , and the L2 and R2 triggers being more triggers than buttons now . But there are a few irks that I still have with the design that I doubt will be corrected , at least directly by Sony .
Everyone knows how the controller is , so I don't really need to go into the pros . But I might as well just to seem like I'm not bashing the controller , even if it gets a good rating from me . Comfort , well-spaced buttons , pressure sensitivity even for the d-pad , and no lag ( some wireless controllers have this still ) . The cons however , which seem to be only pointed out by me and a handful of people , keep this from being a perfect controller . First , I hate the d-pad . It sucks for most fighting games like BlazBlue and Street Fighter , like doing special move configurations . I still can't do Shoryuken motions without screwing up on a regular basis because the directional buttons are separate . How hard is it to connect the buttons together so you can get one smooth flowing motion ? The Xbox S controller's d-pad was perfect , and playing Guilty Gear X2 # Reload was so effortless , you'd think Sony would've borrowed from that aspect of Microsoft's design . This is really the only genre , at least that I've played , that suffers from the d-pad , and it's good for every other kind of game . But my other complaint is that the analog sticks still feel too loose to me . Every other analog stick , from the Nintendo 64 , Dreamcast , Xbox and even GameCube , feel perfect and tight , but Sony's tend to run on the loose side . Playing LittleBigPlanet , which uses the analog stick instead of the d-pad [ like it should ] was something that took the fun out of that game for me .
There's one more con , but it has nothing to do with the controller itself . It's that no controller recharging cable is included . Yep , if you lost the one that came with your ps3 , you're not getting an extra one here . Also , and this one's really minor and only for the super picky people , but someone's gotta mention it , the controls when watching a dvd and a Blu-Ray are different . I don't get why they did that , but if you watch a dvd and then go for a blu-ray , prepare to adjust to different settings for the buttons ' quick actions without going to the menu .
Some people complain that the Dualshock 3 needs to be recharged too quickly , ' only ' lasting 4 - 5 hours before needing to recharge . I used to play games a lot , and now I'm down to - maybe - 2 hours per sitting , but 4 - 5 hours seems a bit long to me , so it needing to recharge after that much time seems reasonable . This is a good controller , and while third party companies have made versions with the d-pad design I like , the overall quality lacks compared to what Sony puts out .
006 4 The Playstation 2 ' s highly regarded DualShock 2 controller was considered by many to be the best videogame controller of all time . So when you've got a winning design there's no need to change anything . However , because of a legal battle with Immersion over rumble technology , Sony was forced to offer their Sixaxis controller without rumble . The Sixaxis had the same Dualshock design but it felt too lightweight and cheap . Thankfully the lawsuit has been settled and rumble has come back to the Playstation .
For the most part , the DualShock 3 is almost identical to its PS2 precessor . But it has all the features of the original Sixaxis controller in addition to rumble . The controller is still wireless , can be charged by plugging it into your PS3 ( or PC ) , rumble is compatible with all PS1 and PS2 games , and the PS3 supports up to 7 controllers at the same time via bluetooth . Rumble in the DualShock 3 seems more responsive in regards to the location of its vibration depending on which side you get hit on during the games . I don't know if this is something in the design or if it's the developers doing it for the games but I welcome it .
All in all this is currently the best designed controller on the market right now . The PS2 ' s DS2 was incredible so if it ain't broke , don't fix it applies here . I'll be enjoying rumble in my PS3 games from now on .
008 4 For the past year and a half something has been missing . You don't know what it is but theirs a void and somehow you want to fill it if only you could figure out what it is . You've played Resistance , Warhawk , Heavenly Sword , and Uncharted but something doesn't feel the same . Well worry no more your fears can now be relieved . Rumble is back to bring many of the PS3 best games to life . Granted we shouldn't have had to wait for this controller and its been a painful wait for Sony to settle the lawsuit and get the dualshock 3 into our gamer hands . But at least now its here and without it your truly missing out on that last bit of immersion games have been giving us for many years now .
Its not a new feature , of course , but its a necessary one . As a PS3 owner I've missed it and I've taken issue with Sony leaving it out of the sixaxis . No we can have our rumble and feel it too . The controller has a great weighty feel to it . Still includes the motion sensing of the original sixaxis controller . The rumble works on all of the best games , except for Call of Duty 4 but I'm sure a patch will be available in the future . You really can't ask for more . Its rechargable without the need to buy anything extra . Consider all the batteries you don't have to buy and it pays for itself .
023 4 I was so pleased to learn that Sony resolved their legal issue with Dual Shock rumble . Now this feels so much like the controller I have grown used to . It has a good weight to it now and the rumble and new six axis features work very well together . Actually I had a Wii and the six axis features of the Wiimote ( like in MarioKart ) seem to be not as precise or user friendly as Sony's are .
As for the red color , I was worried it was painted , but no the plastic is through and through red , solid red . And the red is the God of War red ( in my opinion ) so it is pleasant on the eye .
I am still not very pleased with the L3 and R3 buttons , they feel awkward , but I couldn't really tell you how to better implement these extra buttons either .

The shoulder buttons are very comfortable and easy to press within a split second , great for games that require fast reaction time . The four face buttons are spaced perfectly , and the overall design of the controller fits the hand perfectly . Sony hit the bulls-eye with the PSOne Dualshock controller , and they transferred this design over to the PS2 . The design was still so popular that Sony could not resist transferring it over again . The added benefit of the dualshock controller on the PS3 is the added freedom of wireless .
The controller is easy to adapt to for Sony console veterans , making the upgrade to the PlayStation 3 even less painless then it already is . The PlayStation 3 sticks to Sony's winning formula , utilizing familiar buttons , and the same layout as controllers before it . Players will easily recognize the mapping of the controllers , with trademark square , triangle , circle and x buttons that Sony fans have become accustomed to . The PlayStation 3 also follows the tried and true method of the Xbox 360 controller by placing a home icon on the controller . The home icon is located in the center of the controller , and upon pressing it the player will view the PlayStation 3 XMB . The XMB is the main navigational source for the PS3 , displaying the contents of the console's hard-drive and disc-drive . Holding the button down for a longer period of time will allow either the controller or the console to be turned off remotely .
The controller easily syncs with the console and has a great battery life as well . The controller also comes packaged with a USB cable that you can use to charge the controller with in case of long gaming sessions where the battery may begin to run low . The only drawback with this is the length of cable is not long enough to actually allow the gamer to sit at a decent distance from the console while charging the controller . Replacing and upgrading the chord with one of a better length is a wise choice , and one that I highly recommend .
The Dualshock 3 returns to the heavier weight that players are used to feeling from the controllers ; ditching the lightweight design of the Six Axis . This makes the controller feel better to hold , making it sturdier as well . The major reason that I prefer this controller overall the other controllers that have been released is because of the directional pad . The d-pad is perfect on the Sony controllers . It allows for precision and accuracy in every genre of gaming . I was disappointed when Sony launched the PS3 and its controller lacked rumble capability , however , with this new release the Dualshock design is back and better than ever .
038 4 I purchased both the Red color and the Blue Color ( at the time of this writing only the blue one has arrived ) .
I must say that the Metallic Blue Dual Shock 3 looks more impressive in person than the image seems to convey . The image doesnt convey the fact that it is metallic blue . Metallic blue in this case means that the actually controlloer looks almost nearly like a dark shade of blue but has the subtle sparks in it that makes it shimmer and shine when one rotates it around in the lighting .
Performance wise it is the same that we expect with all of our DualShock 3 ' s . Perfect feel for comfort , strong vibrant vibration , and great sixaxis motion control translation ( on games that support them ) .
The only other minor thing is that the DualShock 3 logo and the Sixaxis logo are in a brighter blue on that front end of the DualShock 3 . I dont think it adds or distracts from the aesthetics since it is in an odd position on the DualShock 3 for this Metallic Blue color .
EDIT : Deep Red Color arrived today and it looks exactly like the picture . Saying deep red is quite a stretch for it is a brilliant red but doesnt look quite luminous .
These are a worthwhile purchase if you want to add a DualShock 3 color other than Black to your collection .

My new dualshock controller works Great , I prefer this controller over the Xbox 360 controller , This feels more natural . I bought this as my second controller and it is now my go to controller for games and its the one I play with in multiplayer games . This and the trigger extensions for the R2 and L2 buttons gives me an edge over the competion .
084 4 at first , you see this control and you think it is cheap or cheaper , because all ps3 dualshock 3 controllers look made of a finer plastic . But then you start using it , and the real only difference between this and the black ones is the color . This color thing makes it propagate the light indicators from their very source . You see the red light on from the other side of the controller . I thought it was due to a cheaper plastic composition , but if you look carefully , the black ones also are transparent .
Anyway , lots of fun having multiple controllers , I think I'll keep on buying them . Also not so expensive as the not official or not Sony ones . It's not cheap , in any sense .
087 4 Let me start by saying that mechanically , this is like any other DS3 and works great .
However , one thing I did notice is that the finish on this is slightly textured while the regular black dualshocks are smooth . I also have the Japanese spec white DS3 and it is smooth too .
I don't mind the textured finish and it actually helps when my hands get sweaty . But I figured I'd mention it .

This controller is tops . So much better then the bulky 360 controller and so much more advanced than the PS1 and PS2 ones ! Love the thoughtless wireless and easy charging . Just plug it into your PS3 to charge it ! On the 360 you have to buy extra crap to have the controllers rechargeable or just use batteries . Not the PS3 . Its smart . And so is this controller .
127 4 These new painted DualShock 3 controllers are better than the black ones , because the paint finish makes them easier to grip . The black plastic ones become slick when your hands sweat while gaming , while the painted ones have a matte finish that adds a little texture . I have a silver one and this red one , both have a nice look .
The problem with the red version is that the indicator light next to the usb plug shines through the casing . With the light and the paint being red , the light gets an intensity boost and it shows through the top of the controller . It's not a big deal to me , but is surprising coming from Sony as they usually don't miss details like that . Otherwise this is a great color red , with just a bit of metal flake . Get one of these and spice up your gaming .
156 4 I didn't jump on the DualShock 3 bandwagon for a long time because . . . well . . . we had 2 SixAxis already and some third party ' rumble ' contraption that didn't really amount to much but they still added up to 3 controllers and we couldn't justify a fourth and a fifth . But , all good ( and bad ) things come to an end eventually and the initial SixAxis finally expired so we had no choice but to go for the DS3 .
To make the long story short : we are happy with it . It's the old SixAxis plus the vibrations . At this time , we get the DS3 to vibrate with most of the games we play . I'm playing Fallout 3 these days and it vibrates quite nicely when weapons are fired or when mines explode and the kids are busy with Little Big Planet and the DS3 is compatible with LBP too .
For anyone who's not familiar with the PS3 controllers , their main features are :
- rechargeable
- Bluetooth enabled
- motion sensitive
- support rumble and vibrations
That's just about it . To me , the DS3 is the perfect game controller . I can't say that I really missed the rumble a lot but , now that it's here , I'm glad we have it .

187 4 The saying ' if it ain't broke , don't fix it ' would have been a fair response when deciding what to do with the next gen Playstation controller , and Sony seems to have agreed for the most part . The PS2 Dual Shock controller was easily the best design of any of its competitors . Unfortunately , Microsoft's mild tweaks to the Xbox controller were brilliant , and Sony's few additions were useless except for the wireless capability , and it even took them a while to get around to bringing back the rumble feature .
Microsoft smartly resisted overhauling their controller and recognized how to perfect the basic design by downsizing , rounding off some hard edges , and moving the black and white buttons as well-sized , nimbly responsive shoulder buttons . The PS3 controller is still a fine controller , and the best one for the Playstation , but Microsoft stepped out of character and actually made a brilliantly improved product ( along with the Xbox itself ) that now has , to my mind , taken the throne as best designed controller .
This controller coupled with a nice rubbery silicon covering for it makes it the perfect controller for the PS3 , just avoid the Six-axis use whenver you can - - more gimmick than benefit .
200 4 Oh Boy , this controllers are absolutley worth the money ; its handy , feels righ in your hand , alitte heaveier than the sixaxis ( which is a great thing for me , because they dont feel cheap : P ) , Great rumbling . . . And and the great part is that its quiet while rumbling not as those from ps2 that gives you noises like its about to split in two peices ! !
Again , I highly recommend it for Gammers and espeacially Racing fans ( especifically Burnout : Paradise ) .

This is the controler that all PS3 users shoulda had from the start ( silly Sony . . . just pay up ! ) and I've really missed having rumble on my games both new and old . The rumble works great on games that are patched or designed with it in mind but don't expect every game you put in your PS3 to give you the fun force feedback . Users of this who impored from Japan ( where this has been out for months ! ) reported as much before the USA launch but for examples : games like Rachet and Clank Future and Warhawk are rumble ready !
Compared with the orignal PS3 controler this one weigs abit more but it just makes it fell abit more study and less like a lightweight boomerang you can easy toss across the room like a feather !
Overall a great adition to the PS3 . . . and one that the system shoulda had from the start ( but you know how stuborn sony can be . . . )

262 4 I love the Dualshock 3 controller . I own 3 regular 6 Axis controllers which look very similar to the Dualshock 3 controller and I know as soon as I pick one of the regular ones up that its not the right controller because it feels cheap .
The Dualshock controller is solid and has a little more weight to it . I think its worth the money and it adds to the experience of a game . When I play with a regular controller I don't feel as immersed in the game .
And the battery life in this thing last forever . I rarely feel I ever have to charge it , and when I do it last long .
I recommend getting a DualShock 3 controller , especially if you play a lot of action games with a lot of explosions . = )

046 4 Who didn't cringe a bit when Sony unveiled the unsightly , boomerang controller with the PS3 , oh so many years ago ? So when it was revealed that the controller was going to be the same shape & function as the DualShock 2 , I let out a huge sigh of relief . But my relief was tempered by the announcement that there was to be no ' shock ' in the new wireless controller . Oh well , I thought , At least it still ' looks ' like the dual shock . But then I heard that the reason for no ' shock ' was that it wasn't compatible with the sixaxis feature . I thought correctly when they released the DualShock 3 , Sony's next gen gamer's Excalibur . Same awesome design that fits oh so perfectly in my hand , same game enhancing vibration function as the DS2 , and now with the sixaxis control feature & it's wireless ! What more do I need to say about it ? Sure there are other after market controllers out there for less money , but why ?
002 4 I was already extremely happy with the Sixaxis controller , but I could not resist getting the DualShock 3 . Not only do you get the rumble , but also , it feels much better in your hands , even for those games that do not use this feature . The rumble function is fun , but on top of that , it helps with gameplay , because feeling what is happening provides a lot more feedback than just watching how your character or car reacts to the environment .
The biggest surprise of all was that the rumble works with PS 2 games in the PS 3 system . I am currently playing through God of War , a game which had the rumble capability in PS 2 . I thought that it was unlikely that I was going to get this feature with this new controller in the PS 3 , but it worked perfectly .
I know that having to buy a new controller and basically discard the one that came with the system is not the ideal situation , but I have to say this product is really worth shedding the extra bucks .

The new controller is very nice with this game . When your car or runs into something , you can really tell !

It Added so much more of a connection to the game when I was playing Warhawk today , feeling the recoil of the weapons really gave me a rush and also let me know what I was missing without the Rumble Feature . 181 4 If you had the ps2 dualshock2 controller then nothing is going to change that much . The dualshock3 gives pretty strong vibration for being wireless , comparable to the dualshock2 . I know for a fact that a full charge will last at least 7 hours ( I haven't tested beyond 7 hours ) . It's a fair bit heavier than the normal ps3 sixaxis controllers as you might expect . The only real cons I can think of is that Sony should have rolled these babies out with the release of the ps3 , and the price .

These new painted DualShock 3 controllers are better than the black ones , because the paint finish makes them easier to grip . The black plastic ones become slick when your hands sweat while gaming , while the painted ones have a matte finish that adds a little texture . I have a silver one and this red one , both have a nice look .
The problem with the red version is that the indicator light next to the usb plug shines through the casing . With the light and the paint being red , the light gets an intensity boost and it shows through the top of the controller . It's not a big deal to me , but is surprising coming from Sony as they usually don't miss details like that . Otherwise this is a great color red , with just a bit of metal flake . Get one of these and spice up your gaming .

I owned a Xbox 360 and would argue with my best friend ( who owned both consoles and preferred PS3 ) over how the 360 controller felt better . When I got my PS3 I immediately tried to find something to criticize about the controller and its design . I couldn't . The L / R analog sticks are much much more comfortable than the 360 ' s and the smaller design actually makes it seem to have a better feel . I've been burned ( not physically ) by bad controllers enough times to know better now . Sure , I can buy a Nyko or Mad Catz for half the price , and take the gamble . Or , I can just buy the sure thing .
I think that assurance is money well spent .
That said , I will admit that the ergonomics are not ( and has never been ) quite right for the Sony controllers . Some complain that the grip angles are wrong or too slim . I personally don't take issue with either , but I can't figure out why they round the top of the analog sticks . They're textured and grippy enough for dry thumbs , but after a while , your thumbs will build up a little sweat . And a little is all you need for it to get slippery . This isn't as unusual a scenario as it may sound . When you're resting your thumbs against a rubbery plastic surface , they will get a little warm and become just slightly moist . The only way to maintain contact is to occasionally wipe your thumbs .
That seems a bit silly to me . This minor design flaw is most noticeable during intense first-person shooters . It's even a bit frustrating when playing easy-going games like LittleBigPlanet which uses the analogs almost exclusively .

I was so pleased to learn that Sony resolved their legal issue with Dual Shock rumble . Now this feels so much like the controller I have grown used to . It has a good weight to it now and the rumble and new six axis features work very well together . Actually I had a Wii and the six axis features of the Wiimote ( like in MarioKart ) seem to be not as precise or user friendly as Sony's are .
As for the red color , I was worried it was painted , but no the plastic is through and through red , solid red . And the red is the God of War red ( in my opinion ) so it is pleasant on the eye .
I am still not very pleased with the L3 and R3 buttons , they feel awkward , but I couldn't really tell you how to better implement these extra buttons either .

The size , shape and layout of the DS3 is almost identical to the original Dualshock controller that was released for the Playstation 1 . Chances are if you liked using any of the previous Sony brand controllers you'll also enjoy using the Dualshock 3 . Similarly , if any of the previous Dualshock controllers weren't quite right for you then you'll probably dislike the DS3 .
Slight changes have been made to the shoulder buttons and the addition of a。 PS ' button allows for quick start-up and shutdown of the PS3 as well as access to the PS3 X-Cross Media Bar .
The L2 & R2 shoulder buttons are now less ' button ' and more ' trigger ' . Personally I'm mixed on the new layout . The trigger design works great in certain games such as racing games ; but can be less than perfect for platforming or action games .
The DS3 features the exact same motion sensitivity featured in the Sony SIXAXIS controller for the PS3 . The major addition of the DS3 being the rumble feature . In using the DS3 for approximately 6 months it has become my controller of choice . Simply put the DS3 offers a level of immersion into games that the SIXAXIS cannot offer . The actual amount of rumble varies from game to game and many games even offer the ability to adjust the rumble feedback .
Also improved over the SIXAXIS is the feel of the DS3 controller . Because of the added weight afforded by the rumble mechanism the DS3 feels heavier and more appropriate than the lightweight SIXAXIS .
Because the DS3 is wireless it relies on a built-in battery to power the controller . Battery life is comparable to that afforded by the SIXAXIS which is approximately 8 - 10 hours . In my experience charging the DS3 to a full charge takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour .
The DS3 relies on Blutooth technology to power the wireless feature . Range is excellent and advertised to be about 30ft . Suffice to say that I've never experienced a problem with regards to wireless range .

173 4 I'd always been an XBox guy . One of the things I preferred about the XBox compared to the Playstation was the controller . It's got a big , meaty controller that fills out your hands nicely , while I always felt like previous Playstation controllers felt light , cheap and flimsy . The rumble feature that this controller has makes your games a lot more immersive than you might realize . I was using the old , non-rumbling controller that came with my early production PS3 for the longest time . Most games make use of the DualShock 3 ' s rumble features now . I was surprised at how much more the rumble adds to even downloadable PSN games like PixelJunk Shooter . Maybe it's because I play most of my games on an iPod Touch or Nintendo DS that I now notice the extra kick that rumble adds to the game playing experience .
My only complaints are the following :
NO USB CABLE

It doesn't really make sense that Sony didn't include one . Sure , you can use the one that Sony included with your PS3 system . But now that you have another controller , doesn't it make sense that you might want to recharge more than 1 controller at the same time ? My early PS3 system has 4 USB ports , so you can recharge 4 controllers at once directly . The current PS3 Slim system has 2 USB ports , so why did Sony skimp on including an extra USB cable ?
Fortunately , the USB A-to-Mini B cable that you want is common . You already may have a few laying around your house . But this is still inconvenient . Amazon sells the USB cable that you want here :

SLIPPERY TRIGGER BUTTONS

When Sony released the original , non-rumbling PS3 controller , there were complaints that the R2 and L2 trigger buttons weren't good because they curve inward ( towards you ) , making it easy for your fingers to slip off of these buttons . Sure , there are some really good gamers who can compensate for that but if you're use to the Xbox's controller , you'll notice the difference . With the DualShock 3 controller , Sony had the opportunity to fix the trigger buttons . . . but they didn't . That's disappointing .
If you love the trigger buttons on the Xbox , there's an easy fix . A third party makes a set of low price ( $4.99 ) caps which snap over the trigger buttons to make them curve outward ( away from you ) like trigger buttons should . Judging by the tremendous positive feedback for the caps , there are many people who don't like the existing trigger buttons on the DualShock 3 . You can buy the extra trigger caps from Amazon here :

In case you are unaware , the motion sensitive SixAxis system is still found in the DualShock 3 controller even though many games don't make use of it .
Also , if you use Amazon's pulldown menu , you can chose alternative colors like blue , red , and silver . It seems like the basic black is the most popular since the alternative colors are a few dollars cheaper .

I was already extremely happy with the Sixaxis controller , but I could not resist getting the DualShock 3 . Not only do you get the rumble , but also , it feels much better in your hands , even for those games that do not use this feature . The rumble function is fun , but on top of that , it helps with gameplay , because feeling what is happening provides a lot more feedback than just watching how your character or car reacts to the environment .
The biggest surprise of all was that the rumble works with PS 2 games in the PS 3 system . I am currently playing through God of War , a game which had the rumble capability in PS 2 . I thought that it was unlikely that I was going to get this feature with this new controller in the PS 3 , but it worked perfectly .
I know that having to buy a new controller and basically discard the one that came with the system is not the ideal situation , but I have to say this product is really worth shedding the extra bucks .

For the past year and a half something has been missing . You don't know what it is but theirs a void and somehow you want to fill it if only you could figure out what it is . You've played Resistance , Warhawk , Heavenly Sword , and Uncharted but something doesn't feel the same . Well worry no more your fears can now be relieved . Rumble is back to bring many of the PS3 best games to life . Granted we shouldn't have had to wait for this controller and its been a painful wait for Sony to settle the lawsuit and get the dualshock 3 into our gamer hands . But at least now its here and without it your truly missing out on that last bit of immersion games have been giving us for many years now .
Its not a new feature , of course , but its a necessary one . As a PS3 owner I've missed it and I've taken issue with Sony leaving it out of the sixaxis . No we can have our rumble and feel it too . The controller has a great weighty feel to it . Still includes the motion sensing of the original sixaxis controller . The rumble works on all of the best games , except for Call of Duty 4 but I'm sure a patch will be available in the future . You really can't ask for more . Its rechargable without the need to buy anything extra . Consider all the batteries you don't have to buy and it pays for itself .

Honestly , words cannot say how much more I love this controller compared to the Sixaxis wireless controller for the PS3 . I actually got my DualShock 3 imported from Japan back in February and have used it all the time on my PS3 . I have only played with the Dual Shock for PS2 and PS1 games though and not PS3 games yet since I only have 2 games that do not support rumble for the system . I can say that the Rumbling feature is 100% the same as the Dual Shock 2 for the PS2 !
First off , the weight difference is significant compared to the Sixaxis . You can tell no doubt which controller is which once you pick up both a Sixaxis and Dual Shock 3 .
Second , they now have 3 different colors for the controller which is pretty sweet cause now you can buy the controller in Silver , Black , and White .
Now , to review on the rumbling itself , well , IT'S AWESOME ! ! ! It's 100% accurate once something happens in a game where the controller is supposed to rumble and it gives you that feeling of awesomeness when playing games that have the rumble feature .
The ONLY con I have to say about this controller is that sometimes it can drain the battery a bit quickly , but hey , I would take this controller 100 times as much compared to the Sixaxis .
Overall , no doubt this product deserves 100 stars , but I can only give it 5 .

What a great addition to an already great system . Have had the PS3 since it came out . Got my new DualShock controller today and immedately played ToyHome 2nd Gear .
The new controller is very nice with this game . When your car or runs into something , you can really tell !
I also like the fact the controller is a little heavier . I think it makes turning the cards a little more realistic

The rumble feature that this controller has makes your games a lot more immersive than you might realize . I was using the old , non-rumbling controller that came with my early production PS3 for the longest time . Most games make use of the DualShock 3 ' s rumble features now . I was surprised at how much more the rumble adds to even downloadable PSN games like PixelJunk Shooter . Maybe it's because I play most of my games on an iPod Touch or Nintendo DS that I now notice the extra kick that rumble adds to the game playing experience .
My only complaints are the following :

It doesn't really make sense that Sony didn't include one . Sure , you can use the one that Sony included with your PS3 system . But now that you have another controller , doesn't it make sense that you might want to recharge more than 1 controller at the same time ? My early PS3 system has 4 USB ports , so you can recharge 4 controllers at once directly . The current PS3 Slim system has 2 USB ports , so why did Sony skimp on including an extra USB cable ?
Fortunately , the USB A-to-Mini B cable that you want is common . You already may have a few laying around your house . But this is still inconvenient . Amazon sells the USB cable that you want here :

If you love the trigger buttons on the Xbox , there's an easy fix . A third party makes a set of low price ( $4.99 ) caps which snap over the trigger buttons to make them curve outward ( away from you ) like trigger buttons should . Judging by the tremendous positive feedback for the caps , there are many people who don't like the existing trigger buttons on the DualShock 3 . You can buy the extra trigger caps from Amazon here :

When Sony came into the video game scene many years ago with the PSX aka PSOne , they created one of the best controllers ever made . The shoulder buttons are very comfortable and easy to press within a split second , great for games that require fast reaction time . The four face buttons are spaced perfectly , and the overall design of the controller fits the hand perfectly . Sony hit the bulls-eye with the PSOne Dualshock controller , and they transferred this design over to the PS2 . The design was still so popular that Sony could not resist transferring it over again . Who didn't cringe a bit when Sony unveiled the unsightly , boomerang controller with the PS3 , oh so many years ago ? So when it was revealed that the controller was going to be the same shape & function as the DualShock 2 , I let out a huge sigh of relief . But my relief was tempered by the announcement that there was to be no ' shock ' in the new wireless controller . Oh well , I thought , At least it still ' looks ' like the dual shock . But then I heard that the reason for no ' shock ' was that it wasn't compatible with the sixaxis feature . Now I'm no electronics engineer , but I know enough to know that there are ways to counter such incompatibilities .
I thought correctly when they released the DualShock 3 , Sony's next gen gamer's Excalibur . Same awesome design that fits oh so perfectly in my hand , same game enhancing vibration function as the DS2 , and now with the sixaxis control feature & it's wireless ! What more do I need to say about it ? Sure there are other after market controllers out there for less money , but why ?

Finally the dualshock is back , and this time better than ever ( wireless , with sixaxis ) . There is no doubt the rumble adds alot of fun to gameplay . The controller itself is heavier and feels just right . I didn't notice any problems in battery life , got about 8 hours so far and still has full bars . This also works with all PS1 / PS2 games ( requires firmware 2.00 ) . I tried this with uncharted and warhawk so far , both games uses the rumble feature perfectly . Even though i beat uncharted already , this time i really found it a lot better with rumble . I reccomend this for all PS3 owners , and especially if you're getting the one and only MGS4 .

I just got my Dualshock 3 Controller today and let me tell you it was everything I had hoped for ! The weight is so much better than the Sixaxis Controller , I feel like im holding a real controller not a lite weight piece of junk . As for the Rumble Feature . . . . it's Perfect ! It Added so much more of a connection to the game when I was playing Warhawk today , feeling the recoil of the weapons really gave me a rush and also let me know what I was missing without the Rumble Feature . This is essentially what should've shipped with the PS3 as of launch . However , due to lawsuits and Sony PR , it had to be delayed up until now . I love the heavier feel to the controller and it seems the battery lasts just as long as the original sixaxis ' battery . THe rumble works great with games like Warhawk , Heavenly Sword , and Uncharted . It doesn't miss a step with the PS2 games ( assuming you have a B / C compatible PS3 ) . There's not much to say other than that . If you own a PS3 you probably got used to the L2 & R2 buttons / triggers , and have mixed reactions to the motion sensing tech . I say if you miss rumble , get this . If you don't have a PS3 and plan on buying one soon , wait until June when the controller starts shipping with the system .

This is a great solid little controller however the fact that it does not come with a USB cable to charge it is a rip off . If two of you are playing away all night only one controller can charge at a time which is incredibly annoying as the markup on cables in the store are almost as expensive as the controller .
Including a $0.50 cable is something that should have been done . Very disappointed that they didn't .
Other than that though the controller feels good in my giant hands and the rumble feature works well . Still getting the hang of the layout as I've not touched a PS style controller for several years but does very well .

The PS3 controller is almost , in every way similar to the PS2 and PS . I owned a Xbox 360 and would argue with my best friend ( who owned both consoles and preferred PS3 ) over how the 360 controller felt better . When I got my PS3 I immediately tried to find something to criticize about the controller and its design . I couldn't . The L / R analog sticks are much much more comfortable than the 360 ' s and the smaller design actually makes it seem to have a better feel . It comes pre-installed with a rechargeable battery ( which can't be taken out ) and lasts far longer and will even inform you that the battery power is running low and the controller needs to be charged . This controller lets me enjoy the PS3 to its full potential on every game I play .

This is the controller that the PS3 should have had from the start . The Sixaxis controller can't compare to it . Besides having the rumble capabilities , the Dualshock 3 weighs about 40% more and feels much more solid than the Sixaxis . Battery life is excellent . I charge it every couple of weeks . If you own a PS3 , then this is the controller to have .

I purchased this as a present for my husband , and am mostly happy with what I have . As many reviews have stated , Dualshock is a much better experience for playing games than the original sixaxis .
My only complaint is that it doesn't come with a USB cord to charge it . That being said , the great thing about PS3 is that it isn't proprietary and will take any usb cord .
Overall , a good purchase .

If you had the ps2 dualshock2 controller then nothing is going to change that much . The dualshock3 gives pretty strong vibration for being wireless , comparable to the dualshock2 . I know for a fact that a full charge will last at least 7 hours ( I haven't tested beyond 7 hours ) . It's a fair bit heavier than the normal ps3 sixaxis controllers as you might expect . The only real cons I can think of is that Sony should have rolled these babies out with the release of the ps3 , and the price .

I had the Sixaxis and after I got the dualshock 3 , the way I felt about my games changed . Being able to feel explosions , falls , vibrations from driving , etc . is nothing short of a thrill . The saying ' if it ain't broke , don't fix it ' would have been a fair response when deciding what to do with the next gen Playstation controller , and Sony seems to have agreed for the most part . The PS2 Dual Shock controller was easily the best design of any of its competitors . Unfortunately , Microsoft's mild tweaks to the Xbox controller were brilliant , and Sony's few additions were useless except for the wireless capability , and it even took them a while to get around to bringing back the rumble feature .
Microsoft smartly resisted overhauling their controller and recognized how to perfect the basic design by downsizing , rounding off some hard edges , and moving the black and white buttons as well-sized , nimbly responsive shoulder buttons . The PS3 controller is still a fine controller , and the best one for the Playstation , but Microsoft stepped out of character and actually made a brilliantly improved product ( along with the Xbox itself ) that now has , to my mind , taken the throne as best designed controller .
This controller coupled with a nice rubbery silicon covering for it makes it the perfect controller for the PS3 , just avoid the Six-axis use whenver you can - - more gimmick than benefit .

This is the Sony brand PS3 Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller . The design on this controller is pretty much the same style as the PS2 controller . The only difference is the AXIS function . Which will allow you to tilt the controller in 2D .
Overall , the product is great , a bit weak on the Dualshock . But the best is having it wireless .

There's so many reviews of this controler I'm not sure what else I can add here . This is the controler that all PS3 users shoulda had from the start ( silly Sony . . . just pay up ! ) and I've really missed having rumble on my games both new and old . The rumble works great on games that are patched or designed with it in mind but don't expect every game you put in your PS3 to give you the fun force feedback . Users of this who impored from Japan ( where this has been out for months ! ) reported as much before the USA launch but for examples : games like Rachet and Clank Future and Warhawk are rumble ready !
Compared with the orignal PS3 controler this one weigs abit more but it just makes it fell abit more study and less like a lightweight boomerang you can easy toss across the room like a feather !
Overall a great adition to the PS3 . . . and one that the system shoulda had from the start ( but you know how stuborn sony can be . . . )

I play a lot of FPS games for hours on end . I own the PS3 , Xbox 360 & the Wii . Out of all of these systems ' controllers I like the PS3 ' s Dualshock 3 wireless controller the best . It's smaller and smoother to the touch which is a lot more forgiving on my hands . My hands tend to hurt after playing FPS games with the Xbox controller because of its larger size and because of the rough texture on the outside of the controller although this is less of an issue if I'm playing games other than shooters because I tend to not grasp the controller so tightly . A great feature of the wireless PS3 controller is that the batteries last a long time in between charges and there's no need to switch out batteries as they are built into the controller . Also , I tend to beat the hell out of controllers and this controller can take a beating . I have went through several Xbox controllers over the last 2 years because my thumb sits awkwardly on the left analog stick which eventually wears a hole through it after just a few months . Lastly , I own Katamari Forever and having the left and right analogue sticks symmetrical , side-by-side makes the Katamari experience more enjoyable . Playing Katamari on the Xbox isn't as easy .

I love the Dualshock 3 controller . I own 3 regular 6 Axis controllers which look very similar to the Dualshock 3 controller and I know as soon as I pick one of the regular ones up that its not the right controller because it feels cheap .
The Dualshock controller is solid and has a little more weight to it . I think its worth the money and it adds to the experience of a game . When I play with a regular controller I don't feel as immersed in the game .
And the battery life in this thing last forever . I rarely feel I ever have to charge it , and when I do it last long .
I recommend getting a DualShock 3 controller , especially if you play a lot of action games with a lot of explosions . = )

I have a Wii , 360 and PS3 , and this product in my opinion is far superior to the other systems ' controllers . I like the non-battery approach , which saves a lot of money . I purchased this controller today and I knew the only way to properly road-test it was on the game that made the Dualshock famous ,
Metal Gear Solid
. After booting up the game , I walked down the hallway and got spotted by a guard . As he shouted , WHO'S THAT ? the controller jumped in my hand - and I knew this was a smart purchase . As the guards shot at me , I felt the feedback of the bullets , just as I had 10 years ago on my Sony Playstation .

and I decided to jump right into a heated firefight . The controller gave me feedback while shooting weapons and getting hit by enemy fire , but I knew my purchase was justified when Drake was near death : I FELT THE DUALSHOCK 3 PULSING IN SYNCH WITH DRAKE'S HEARTBEAT . It's one thing to hear that noise and know he's near death , it's quite another to feel the pulse in my own hands .
Okay , so the feedback on the older games was there , but a little lighter than I remember . The reason ? . From Ayame's blades to Rikimaru's sword , each sword swipe and jump had excellent feedback .
Okay , so my Playstation games worked out . But what about my Playstation 2 library ?

, knowing I had to feel the swing of the Blades of Chaos . The controller vibrations felt a little lighter here , but the vibrations still occurred at the appropriate times .

. Who better to test a vibration controller than the Sultan of Smash ? All the power jumps and smashes had the vibrations intact , but they still felt a little on the light side .

026 4 The rumble feature that this controller has makes your games a lot more immersive than you might realize . I was using the old , non-rumbling controller that came with my early production PS3 for the longest time . Most games make use of the DualShock 3 ' s rumble features now . I was surprised at how much more the rumble adds to even downloadable PSN games like PixelJunk Shooter . Maybe it's because I play most of my games on an iPod Touch or Nintendo DS that I now notice the extra kick that rumble adds to the game playing experience .
My only complaints are the following :
NO USB CABLE

It doesn't really make sense that Sony didn't include one . Sure , you can use the one that Sony included with your PS3 system . But now that you have another controller , doesn't it make sense that you might want to recharge more than 1 controller at the same time ? My early PS3 system has 4 USB ports , so you can recharge 4 controllers at once directly . The current PS3 Slim system has 2 USB ports , so why did Sony skimp on including an extra USB cable ?
Fortunately , the USB A-to-Mini B cable that you want is common . You already may have a few laying around your house . But this is still inconvenient . Amazon sells the USB cable that you want here :

SLIPPERY TRIGGER BUTTONS

When Sony released the original , non-rumbling PS3 controller , there were complaints that the R2 and L2 trigger buttons weren't good because they curve inward ( towards you ) , making it easy for your fingers to slip off of these buttons . Sure , there are some really good gamers who can compensate for that but if you're use to the Xbox's controller , you'll notice the difference . With the DualShock 3 controller , Sony had the opportunity to fix the trigger buttons . . . but they didn't . That's disappointing .
If you love the trigger buttons on the Xbox , there's an easy fix . A third party makes a set of low price ( $4.99 ) caps which snap over the trigger buttons to make them curve outward ( away from you ) like trigger buttons should . Judging by the tremendous positive feedback for the caps , there are many people who don't like the existing trigger buttons on the DualShock 3 . You can buy the extra trigger caps from Amazon here :

In case you are unaware , the motion sensitive SixAxis system is still found in the DualShock 3 controller even though many games don't make use of it .
Also , if you use Amazon's pulldown menu , you can chose alternative colors like blue , red , and silver . It seems like the basic black is the most popular since the alternative colors are a few dollars cheaper .
066 4 This is a great solid little controller however the fact that it does not come with a USB cable to charge it is a rip off . If two of you are playing away all night only one controller can charge at a time which is incredibly annoying as the markup on cables in the store are almost as expensive as the controller .
Including a $0.50 cable is something that should have been done . Very disappointed that they didn't .
Other than that though the controller feels good in my giant hands and the rumble feature works well . Still getting the hang of the layout as I've not touched a PS style controller for several years but does very well .

Was kind of disappointed that my controller didn't come with a USB cable to charge it , but I guess the battery life is good enough that I can just charge both controllers from the one cable that came with my PS3 .

194 4 PROS : The original controller feels too light . Now this one has some weight , but not too heavy . I'd still like a bigger size for my large hands . But this is all about the rumble baby ! Games aren't the same without it . I don't know how battery life is yet , but so far so good . I've used it with BAD COMPANY - GREAT ! Fifa 08 - no rumble . Now if Fifa 09 can have Rumble - oh that would be awesome !
CONS : the joysticks are springy . if there is no sound on , you can hear it - subtle , but it's there . Everything else feels sturdy . Hopefully the next one will have less springy sticks . also , $55 is a bit too steep for a controller ; but we have no other option , do we ? I think $39 is a much better price point . still great !

I searched eBay and found some that were similar , but most of the cheap ones on there are not an official Sony controller and a lot of them are even WIRED . Be careful of that when getting a controller .
I have never used the generic controllers , but the price was so good on the official one here , I couldn't pass it up .
And the color was cool too ! That helps differentiate between controllers , especially if you take your's to someone else's house .
Lastly , it does not come with a USB cord to connect to the PS3 and charge it , but I just used the one that came with the original black controller I got with my PS3 . No problems there .

Had to sync the controller using the USB cable the first time ( not sure if that is just my PS3 or a normal process ) but haven't had any issues since . Controller works great and battery life is great as well . I am now looking at purchasing the silver one as well . No regrets and I saved $10.00 . Can't beat that !

101 4 The controller came with no scratches or cracks even though I bought it used , I first tried it with the God of War III demo , which I usually play with my original Six Axis . I gotta tell you , that the rumble made everything better , from Kratos ' attacks to the movements and footsteps of Perses , the Titan fighting Helios in the background . I can't believe I went this long without rumble .

I didn't jump on the DualShock 3 bandwagon for a long time because . . . well . . . we had 2 SixAxis already and some third party ' rumble ' contraption that didn't really amount to much but they still added up to 3 controllers and we couldn't justify a fourth and a fifth . But , all good ( and bad ) things come to an end eventually and the initial SixAxis finally expired so we had no choice but to go for the DS3 .
To make the long story short : we are happy with it . It's the old SixAxis plus the vibrations . At this time , we get the DS3 to vibrate with most of the games we play . I'm playing Fallout 3 these days and it vibrates quite nicely when weapons are fired or when mines explode and the kids are busy with Little Big Planet and the DS3 is compatible with LBP too .
For anyone who's not familiar with the PS3 controllers , their main features are :
