Parasite Eve II

  • 004 4  Okay , a disease that quickly infects people and animals rips flesh , opens sores and disease quickly erodes all resemblance to what they once were and transforms them into rabid beasts . Don't you just hate it when that happens . While completely unbelievable , I find myself quickly immersed with Parasite Eve II . An attractive woman called Aya Brea with a hardened background in New York crime fighting is back again fighting ' NMCs ' , neo-mitochondria , basically the disease mentioned above . I'm impressed with the realistic graphics and the all-too chilling cutscenes and rampant beasts ; some are laudable , some disgusting , some chilling . Parasite Eve II now has an even darker glow to it , but loses it's RPG edge in place of Action / Adventure . I really love how anyone can sit down and play this without ever hearing of the first game , its a solid game with a good storyline . I can always play this game again and with more than one possible ending and multiple difficulties there is little chance I'll be bored . I give this four stars , mainly because I think the lines could have been snappier , the people sometime off-character and there are quite a few angles later in the game that are very annoying to manuever around . Otherwise this a great game that is worth the nine bucks they sell it for .
    • 008 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) I used to rent this game a lot when I was younger . I can't remember why I didn't just buy myself a copy , and I also can't remember why I stopped renting it . There was probably a part that I couldn't get past and I lost my patience with it or something . Either way , it was a fun game to play back in the day .
    • 010 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) Parasite Eve II is a game that I'll NEVER sell . It's one of my many classics I have in my PSone game collection . It may not be as good as the first but I still find it fun and entertaining . The game starts 3 years after the Manhattan blockade incident . You play as Aya Brea , who has just transferred from the NYPD to the FBI-MIST unit in Los Angeles . MIST is a special police force dedicated to hunting down NMC's and preventing them from spreading . When she's just about to turn in for the night , her partner , Pierce , informs her of strange activity going on in Downtown Los Angeles . When she gets to the Akropolis Tower , she finds weird , deformed creatures and must find out what they're doing there . I did enjoy this game , even though there's not many connections to the first game . I really like the weapons ( especially the bonus weapons ) and the Parasite Energy attacks . 3 different endings and 4 additional game modes make you want to play this game forever and there are a few cool plot twists . For me , I was a bit disappointed in the storyline but I enjoyed the game overall . Play it for yourself and see how you like it .
    • 015 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) Now I'll be honest , I got the second game because I'd seen my relatives play the first game but hadn't experienced it myself yet . When I started playing this game I was impressed , being a total lover of Resident Evil - I thought it was great in comparison and it still had its own storyline . The game stands solid , the graphics are amazing for the system and I actually wouldn't mind seeing Aya in a remake at one point in time . It does however lack in brain power , most of it is full out combat . Which is good to me but it may disappoint others . I was disappointed in the ending too and according to my reading I got the good ending . It left me in mystery and as of yet there has been no rumor of a third game . When I played the first game , I got easily bored with it . It was just repetitive and dull but I'll admit I simply just gave up on it early into the game and let my relative take over so I could see the ending . So I think that likers of the first game will be disappointed . This game is a faster-paced and more lively action then the first but haters of the first , like myself , I think will love it .
    • 024 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) While the gameplay ( in terms of controls and difficulty ) is similar to the first , I am disappointed about how generic the story line and script is . The first one was intriguing , creepy and well thought out with story and characters while this one has shallowed out Aya and then there are the characters that show up once and you never really deal with them again . It's not a bad game and it has some good moments ; I recommend playing it if you're interested ; just don't expect it to go beyond the first one .
    • 026 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) Parasite Eve 2 removed everything that was wrong with the first one but left only one thing that i couldn't get over . Controlling Aya was a pain , I thought this was really the only down point of the game . I like how there was no leveling up or active time bar to wait to shoot. Also The graphics are awesome and the story will entertain . However I did enjoy Parasite Eve 1 better than 2 . Overall this is a very good game and does a good job on continuing the microchondria eve story . Not Resident Evil . Although it may seem a lot alike , its not . This game is a little easier and has what I think a little bit of a better story than Resident Evil , there is some fact behind the whole microchondria eve where as Zombies are always used to try and scare .
    • 037 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) This is one of those games that I look back and and wonder why the hell I never went out and bought this when I had the money . I never personally finished the first game , but starting the sequel from scratch didn't leave me confused at all . This was one of the first RPGs I played that allowed you to move around and dodge enemy attacks . I didn't feel like I was just sitting around waiting for my action gauge to fill up anymore , I was actually doing something . Dunno about paying $80 for a new copy , but I certainly don't mind paying $40 for it , even if it is used .

    • 043 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) I had so much fun with this game . I have not played the first but i hear many good things , the game play is fun , u know u are in a battle b / c ur controller and the screen shake and invert to black and white . The monsters are various and very different , then any Resident Evil game , it is almost like Resident Evil yet itn't i never really got into RE until i played this game now i have RE Zero and some for PSone . If u dont like a kind of game that has some of the sickest guns u will ever see , then u are in need of mental help , the bosses are different . Some of the bosses i could not beat until i decided to try a different way that i would have never done before b / c usually it would be suicide . So u have to think outside the box for the bosses in this game . They are not just hit hit hit and hit some more . like the final bosses u can die no matter how high ur health is u will still die from one hit of it's core beam . so to find out what is so great go out and buy it b / c it is inexpensive .

    • 059 4  The first Parasite Eve was my favorite Playstation game ever , and I bought the second one on the strength of the original . Unfortunately , I found that much of the creepiness of the story and intuitiveness of the controls had been sacrificed for a more commercial X-Files meets Resident Evil kind of game . On the positive side , the clunky weapons system is replaced , and the replayability factor is high . Although the story is still very linear , you can make choices that alter the story ( and the ending ) somewhat . You can read other reviews for details on the story and style ; I simply wanted to note that if you really liked the original , this is a bit of a letdown .
    • 061 4  I just recently bought Parasite Eve 2 , and when I first put it in my PS2 , I thought it would be Parasite Eve with a different story . Boy was I wrong . This game is not better than the original , but is very good . When I first started this game I thought it was awful , mostly gameplay wise . Moving Aya Brea is a pain , and is identical to the Resident Evil series . I think if Electronic Arts had made the sequel to one of the best games ever then this game would have been the best . I think Aya Brea is a cool character , and the fighting system was better in th first , but this sequel is okay . They could have made it better , but it is okay . I love this game , even if I haven't finished it yet . Here is what this game is : 1 ) Awesome story 2 ) Great graphics ( scary too ) 3 ) Bad gameplay and difficult puzzles 4 ) This game is overall okay , and deserves it's four stars . If you are a fan of Parasite Eve , then you will be upset about the controls but will enjoy the story . If you're just picking it up because it's like Resident Evil , then have fun with this game .
    • 082 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) This game is very good and the monsters and weapons are cooler than the first one . The first one is slightly better though . Although this game is worth buying , I would insist on getting either Threads of Fate or Legend of Dragoon first . It might even be worth waiting for Chrono Cross .

  • 019 4  The original Parasite Eve was one of the greatest games ever made . It's unique combat system , a combination of real-time movement and turn-based fighting , was revolutionary and enjoyable , and the amazing FMV did wonders in moving along the incredibly original and entertaining story . So , when I heard about Parasite Eve 2 , I knew I had to have it . While the game is very good , some of my favorite elements from the first game were altered for the sequal . Gone is the original combat system , to be replaced with a new real-time battle system that can be best discribed as a combination of the original game's real-time movement and lock-on targeting , combined with a Resident Evil-style battlefield . Also gone is the weapon / armor customization system from the first game , which allowed you to move parameters and effects to create your own unique weapons . While you do still modify some of your weapons and armor , you're very limited in what you can do , in both how much and what you can adjust . The use of the armor as a holder for ammo and items is new and interesting , but can be difficult and unforgiving . I got absolutely slaughtered a couple of times when I forgot to put more ammo in my slots , and ran out in the middle of a fight . In addition to this , the experience and bonus point system has been totally redesigned . In this game , your HP stat is determined by your armor ( probably the only change I truly don't like ) , and your experience is used to learn and improve your parasite powers . While this does give you a customizing ability that harkens back to the original , I'm a little disappointed with there choice of abilities ( and why are they based on elements , this isn't Final Fantasy ) . Finally , the bounty points ( the new term for bonus points ) , rather than being used to customize Aya or her weapons and armor , are instead used like currency to purchase new weapons , armor , ammo , and items . If there's one thing that hasn't changed , it's the awsome entertainment and depth of the storyline . The FMV scens are back and better than ever , and the story itself still has that dark , brooding feel that made the first game a classic . The story is very remenicient of survival horror , such as Capcom's Resident Evil series , and the game has changed to reflect that genere . While I love survival horror , and this game is a perfect example of what that type of game can be , I feel that Squaresoft sacrificed too much of the original in the transition .
    • 002 4  I played this before Parasite Eve 1 , and was a little lost as regards the background story , but its one of my favourite games . Firstly the story is absorbing and exciting ( always important ) . I liked all the characters , especially Aya , and followed the plot with without getting lost nearly all the time ! Secondly , the graphics are superb . Pre-rendered backgrounds ( yes , they are in the style of Resident Evil ) look incredible , and the monsters are among the creepiest since Silent Hill . The characters all look and move realistically , even the pet dog Flint ! Plus of course , the battle system , which in my opinion is outstanding . In this game , you face the enemy in real time , and you have to run around avoiding attacks , whilst trying to attack and heal yourself at the same time , or try and stay safe for the few vital seconds it takes to cast a powerful magic spell . In my opinion , this form of combat is far preferable to the static , turn-based encounters of traditional RPGs , and much more exciting . These battles are not random , in fact you can choose whether or not to fight on a lot of occasions with the use of a handy scanner that warns of enemy infestated areas . Of course , you can't avoid the bosses , and these battles are suitably long and tough . I still remember the huge fat thing with a flame thrower in its mouth . . . Still , you might not want to avoid battles , as more fighting means more experience , and more power , which you will definitely need as things get incredibly tough in the final stages , leading up to a prolonged and a spectaular showdown . . . . it's true I may be biased , being more of a survival horror fan than RPG player , but this game really works . It beats so many other games out there easily , and in my mind is more satisfying than the first game , which had some serious control issues-at least Aya can actually run in this game ! I have no complaints whatsoever . . . Oh all right , just one - How about some dialogue ! I would love to have heard Aya speak , but not once , even in cut scenes ! No matter , definitely worth buying
    • 013 4  First of all I'd like to start by saying I really enjoyed playing this game . You start the game as Aya a member of M.I.S.T on the trail of some of the most ugliest monsters , I myself have ever seen , in the hope of totaly wiping them of the face off the face of the earth . The graphices are brilliant alround , and weaponry is bought on the b.p system ( bounty points ) . But what game could be complete with out a little magic thrown in . Aya brings with her the ability to use parasite eve magic , which in turn helps with killing the hords of monsters thoughout the game.I my opinion the game is a must have for any true playsation and / or survival horror fan . thumbs-up to SQUARESOFT

    • 034 4  Well I have just started and have completed the first day . So far I do enjoy it very much and consider it to be even more creepy and surprising than the first . Beautiful graphics and cinema interludes . I have been startled already a few times and if you have a home theatre system you had better utilize it as it greatly adds to the effect . Looks like another involved and complex story unravels as the game moves along. Now we discuss control . This part is very bad and leaves me a bit unsettled . You find yourself running in to things trying to get used to the direction Aya is going . You run in a zig zag direction and I know that as the game and battles get harder this is going to be a major problem . This is why I passed up buying Silent Hill . This is very poor control and I see no reason to have it this way . I am a die hard Parasite Eve fan so I will make do and so will other fans but if you did not play the first or did not care for it then pass and go on to something else . If you are a fan like me you will have to put up with this so I do recommend this but to die hard fans of the first only .
    • 049 4  This game was great . I haven't played the first one but i think this one is probably better . You wouldn't be disappointed if you are going to buy this game . In the game you play as a F.B.I . agent named Aya from MIST association . A group of hunters that hunt creatures . The first day you go to the Akropolis Tower in Los Angeles I think . Then the next couple of days you will be in Dryfield . I won't tell you any more so I don't spoil all the fun . This game has a very good story line , lots of different weapons to use , good graphics , and cool parasite energy moves . If you like this game you should check out the movie and parasite eve 1 .
    • 073 4  When I played the first Parasite Eve , I couldn't wait for the sequel . When it came out , I ran out and got it right away . I got home and put it in my Playstation . I loved the graphics , but why did Aya get all muscular for no reason ? I wanted Aya to stay in New York and stay with Daniel , Maeda , etc . But instead she was in Los Angeles with people who hardly help in the game at all , I played the game , hoping it would get better , but the storyline was really messed up , the graphics were excellent , but Aya's controls were all confusing . I think this would be a good game to rent , but don't waist your money buying it .

  • 031 4  I just recieved parasite eve 2 last month , and yes alot of game reviewers are right. Its just not the same as the first , in the first you had more scenary to explore , much more fun fighting Eve which was the second main character in the game in the first place , not having Eve around is a bit weird , It was also more interactive and loads more enemies. But Even though Parasite Eve 2 doesn't fit the standards of the first all in all ts a extremely good game , its a mind boggling experience , Survival horror and trying to unrivial a mystery when Eve's well dead , the real time battle system is awesome as well , i like the fact you can use other things now to defeat enemies besides just armed weapons which means you can save your bullets for bigger and harder things , the puzzles are a bit well hard which where the mind boggling part comes in but their pretty easy to understand once you get used to them , the storyline also a bit dull I might add , Its a good storyline but I just found it kinda dull others might not though and also the game play is short but enjoyable and fun . I'd Suggest this game all the way . ~ * ~ Maney ~ * ~
    • 006 4  A terrific sequal to the first Parasite Eve . This game has a lot more to discover , and has a lot of plot twists . It's a great buy for anyone who has played the previous game , if not , I'd play te original , then consider this one .

  • 035 4  In the first Parasite Eve the fighting system was wonderful and easy to get the hang of , though still challenging . While this second edition to the series had an equally superb plot , cut scenes , and game play , the fights in this game ruin just about every moment . Instead of enjoying the game for the beauty of what it was , most of my time was yelling strings of bad language at the television screen as I died for the fifth time because of the bad controls and hard to handle fighting . Sometimes there is such a thing as leaving well enough alone , and that's what they should have done with their first fighting system and controls .
    • 030 4  This is one of the funest games I have ever played. This is the first Playstation game I ever bought. This game was very hard for me to beat , making it a good game because all the games now seem to be short and easy to finish like the Enter the Matrix or The Mummy Returns. So no matter what other people say , don't buy games based on movies !
    • 083 4  This game is very good and the monsters and weapons are cooler than the first one . The first one is slightly better though . • 036 4  . . . . If you ` ve ever , EVER played resident evil , you know what you ` re getting into . The controls are very similiar . It takes five minutes to learn . The only hard part is the square and R1 switch . So you draw your gun with square and fire with R1 . Big deal . It ` s not that hard to learn . The games plot rules , directly tied into the ingenious mitochondria idea . Anyone can quickly figure out the cells functions , and it ties directly into the game . The animation is flawless , no complaints , many compliments . The game itself is quite difficult too , but in a good way . In most other games , you die hardly ever . You would be fighting the Neo-Super-Ultra-Mega-Reviving-Killing-Mutant-Bust-Through-A-Wall-To-Kill-You-Boss , and that trusty Rocket Launcher would take it right down wouldn ` t it . Not in this game pal . You get no such rocket launcher . All the guns in the game are certainly powerful , but no gun in this game takes a boss down in a shot . Maybe it could be strong , but no 1 shots in this game . Unless you play through multiple times to get the ultimate weapon , ( Which I will not disclose , no , it ` s not the Rocket Launcher , thank god ) . But by the time you get that you might as well be taking on the last boss with a bayonet anyway . Ammo is EXTREMELY plentiful , which is good because you can now use that shotgun rather than saying , I ` ll use the mag on the boss and the handgun on enemies , and the shotgun collects dust . The game didn ` t quite score a five because of the few traits which run along with any other survival horror games , namely resident evil . The big mutating monsters are cool , but you can only take so much people . The trademark sign of the Magnum , and the grenade launcher have seem to have become a symbol in these games . The rating system at the end with A , B , and S rating are just overdone . But these are minor flaws . The one major flaw in my opinion is the Attaching system where you attach items to your armor to use them in battle . It becomes bothersome in long boss battles to have to sacrifice a crucial restoration item , just so you can switch your gun or its ammo . To sum it up , the games worth a good hard look . I advise either buying it on sight , or it ` s even better if you can rent or try it out first . The game has definite long night hours in it . You won ` t put it down for a while . If you do buy it , good for you , but if you don ` t , at least play it once . P.S . Remember to save EVERYWHERE , you ` ll thank me .
    • 054 4  When I completed the first game I ever played on my Play Station , I found myself at a loss . Something was missing in my life . Another game to play . I was in a children's store and found myself looking at the games up on the wall that were available . I don't know why but I picked PARASITE EVE 11 . I had never heard of it or knew what it was about . What a wonderful surprise to find that I had chosen a gem ( In my oppinion ) . So far , I'd have to say that PARASITE EVE 11 is by far my favorite of what I have played so far . I found it to be challenging and exciting to play . This game will remain in my archives for future playing . I really enjoyed it and will not give it up . As always , when a good game comes to an end there is the need to seek out another . I rented PARASITE EVE . Needless to say , it went back to Blockbusters immediately . It was just awful especially compared to PARASITE EVE 11 . How can a company make one game great and the other terrible . Well , I'm not here to knocked another game but since it is in the same family a comparison was in order . PARASITE EVE 11 is just wonderful playing .

  • 050 4  Opinions about this game seem to be divided into two groups . One group is made up of the RPG fans that loved the first game and typically dislike ( and subsequently write bad reviews about ) this sequel . The second group is made up of survival horror fans , many of whom found the gameplay and battle system of the first game tedious at best . Square apparently listened to the complaints of this second group and made radical changes to the battle system and gameplay , resulting in a top-notch survival horror game . Basically , this game picks up a few years after where the first one left off . Aya is now a member of an FBI taskforce known as MIST , which has been created to control and wipe out the population of mutant creatures left over from the New York City incident . From there , the amazing plot ( complete with twists , turns , and disturbing undertones ) unfolds as you battle hordes of mutant creatures with the usual assortment of guns while progressing through several diverse areas . As for the gameplay , the controls have been changed to resemble that of a typical survival horror game . Fans of the first game will likely hate the new controls . Anyone who's played the Resident Evil or Silent Hill series or any similar survival horror games will feel right at home . The gameplay is definitely far smoother than the first game , conforming more to the Resident Evil mold and dropping the slow and clunky movement found in the first game . The battle system is also in real-time now , too , much like other survival horror games . This is a huge improvement in my opinion , replacing the tedious RPG turn-based system found in the first game ( albeit to the dismay of some of the first game's RPG-loving fanbase ) . Unlike other survival horror titles , though , there is some strategy involved in fighting just about all of the enemies . . . not to mention a considerably larger variety of enemies than most survival horror games . Each enemy has a unique attack or effect , leaving you to dodge the attacks of more powerful enemies or take out certain enemies first to avoid being blinded . This really makes the battles considerably more captivating and less monotonous than the typical keep pulling the trigger until the monsters die survival horror games . This also makes the game quite challenging , as standard enemies ( most having a ton of hit points and dangerous attacks ) can sometimes be as deadly as the bosses . Not all RPG elements have been removed , though . . You'll still gain experience points which , rather than making you stronger , will allow you to revive an array of magic powers that become necessary for survival as the game progresses . These are called up in real time during battle with a few button taps . You also have hit points rather than the infamous survival horror green-red color scale . Then there are BP , bounty points collected by killing enemies that can be spent on weapons / armor / ammo / items . . . Note that your GPS will allow you to see what locations on the map contain enemies . After certain situations ( cut scenes , boss battles , etc ) , more enemies will appear in various rooms , setting up an RPG-esque clear out all of the red rooms on the map to collect all of the experience points type situation ( which also adds to the fun by setting up an addictive I'll just clear out a few more rooms before I go to bed scenario ) . Graphically , the game is one of the most impressive on the Playstation . The FMVs are amazing . . The in-game graphics , are leaps and bounds above those in the first game . The backgrounds are beautifully rendered and detailed . The character graphics on the human characters as well as the huge array of animal-like / insect-like / humanoid enemy creatures are quite nice ( and at times a bit creepy . . the horse / camel creatures with human faces being a notable example ) . The non-stationary camera angles are well done , especially during a standout sequence near the very beginning of the game . Sonically , the game is also top quality . The music , where it is present , is usually low key ambient material that does a great job of creating atmosphere . Most notable are the minimalist music and ambient sounds found in the desert . There is no voice acting at all ( other than a few laughs ) , which I found somewhat disappointing ( although , in all fairness , the amount of dialogue probably would have necessitated an extra 2 discs just for the audio files ) . Weapon sounds , doors , cars , and other environmental sounds all sound as they should . Some enemies also sound particularly creepy , like one variety that laughs maniacally as you kill it . As for replay value , there are a few endings ( or , more precisely , variations of the same ending . . . bad , normal , best ) and extra modes to explore ( including both an easier replay mode and a few more difficult modes ) . The game itself can also be a bit longer than most survival horror games if you take the time to collect experience points to revive your powers . Overall , this is an amazing game . RPG-oriented fans of the first Parasite Eve may be disappointed ( as you can see by some of the other reviews ) since , let's face it , this is a straightforward survival horror outing . If I just described you , a rental might be wise . However , it's a must-buy for survival horror fans or fans of the first game that don't mind a more action-oriented format .
    • 001 4  I loved the first game . Great premise and nifty graphics made for an enjoyable gameplay environment ( remember the Museum of Natural History level ? classic ! ) However , the one thing I couldn't stand was the battle system . Shoot at monsters , run around trying to dodge them while your attack bar recharges , shoot again , etc . It was a bit frustrating and really slowed down the pace of the game . Well , gamers rejoice , because the new battle system is REAL TIME . you use the target button to cycle through the enemies , fire , run , and dodge in real time . The only time the game pauses is when you choose a parasite spell to cast or access an item in your inventory . The first level is too easy , but it gets progressively tougher as it goes along . The weapons and armor don't seem to have as many customizable attributes as in the first game , and the Liberate and Pre-raise spells are gone * sniff * . However , the new combat system and graphics are well worth the trade off . It is rather a Resident Evil clone in several ways , most notably character navigation and camera angles . I'll be the first to admit that the whole RE-static background style of gaming is getting stale . However , the puzzles are much more sensible and the levels more intriguing . Bottom line , This game is a keeper .
    • 003 4  I read all of the reviews for Parasite Eve II and found a huge conflict in opinion . My question is , are we playing a differnt game or something ? Personally , I found PE II to be a great game . I do see one problem with the marketing of the game , which puts it into the RPG class when I think it is more like a Horror Survival game ( Resident Evil series , Dino Crisis , etc . ) so maybe that is where the conflict lies . Otherwise , I just don't see what all the fuss is about . PE II is an improvement over the orginal in that the controls are much easier and the real battle system is more engaging ( literally ) and and makes the game more interesting overall . There is the occasional problem with the camera angle getting in the way , but name one game of this type that doesn't have this issue . I also read a good number of complaints regarding the storyline of the game . Face it folks , few games even have a storyline , let alone one as extensive as the PE series . Yes , PE II's storyline is different from the original which is why it is a sequel . . . what did you expect the exact same storyline ? The exact same characters . . . the exact same GAME ? PE II stands alone , yet it is closely associated to the original at least as far as the basics go . The movie sequences are outstanding and the overall movement is more fluid as well . My advice for those having problems controlling the character movement . . . stop using the stick . . . go back to the directional pad , its much easier . Character movement is VERY similar to the Resident Evil games and after just a few minutes , you'll get the hang of it . For RPG fans , the character control is probably much easier than some of the other games your used to . . . half the buttons are not even used . As for the story line , Parasite Eve may have been more interesting and unique but Squaresoft did a good job of expanding on the basics and improving the game battle sequences and control issues that were glaringly evident in the original game . If you still aren't sure about buying this game now , I would advise that you rent it first . If you liked PE , chances are you'll like PE II . You're likely to appreciate it for its advancements ( movie sequences , real time battle , easier control , etc . ) and get sucked into this game as well .
    • 005 4  If you hated PE 1 , then you'll really like PE 2 . Unfortunately , if you hated PE 1 , you wont likely give PE 2 a chance . I wasn't going to either . PE 2 did a complete 180 in terms of gameplay . This was really needed since PE 1 had a promising many-sequel story but an execution not expected of Square . PE 1 is a very unique RPG , with repetitive and extremely dull gameplay . PE 2 is much more lively ! Plays more like RE 2 or RE 3 , without voice acting . Lack of voice acting is the only reason I gave it only 4 stars . This game may remind people of RE , but it is quite unique on its own . If there is to be a PE 1 Rebirth , then gameplay needs to be more up to date . Voice acting is a must for any serious game today . I initially hated PE 1 , but today I find its slower gameplay not as bad . If Parasite Eve is to have a different voice actress for each sequel , then that's fine with me . I don't want Aya to be removed from the series the way Regina was from Dino Crisis . Neither do I want Aya to start fading from the series the way Solid Snake faded out of MGS : Sons of Liberty . Game sequels can be ruined easily , if the favorite main character no longer appears in them . If you can't keep the main voice actor , then at least keep the main character !
    • 007 4  I have just finished playing this game and I loved it . The story was good , it kept me guessing as to what would happen next . The graphics were real good as was the sound . As far as the weapons , nice assortment with plenty of ammo for the cool guns like the M4A1 . Even the monsters were really cool , and some I really hated fighting because they are tough ( those damn chasers are the worst to fight ) . I have heard a lot of talk about how bad the control is . Let me tell you I had no problems with the control or the camera angles . Basic movement is the same as Resident Evil , if you have played those games . Camera angles werent bad either , only a couple times did I have a problem with the camera , and they were minor problems . The realtime fighting is a lot better than the first game , and the targeting feature was nice also . Maybe some people had trouble with control , but I had none . If you played the first Parasite Eve , I highly recommend PE2 . I hope squaresoft makes a PE3 for the PS2 , they have a good series going here .
    • 011 4  Parasite Eve II is a game that I'll NEVER sell .
    • 014 4  First off , I would like to express my feelings about PE2 . OK I'll admit I haven't beaten the game yet , but what I have played is simply astounding in my opinion because I am not looking at the game from an RPG perspective . I have seen enough of the game to figure out that Square put PE2 in the wrong genre . PE2 belongs in the survival-horror genre with such greats as Resident Evil and Dino Crisis . I also feel the same goes for the original Parasite Eve . I also feel that the game would've been better if Aya had stayed in New York and developed her relationships with the characters in PE . The graphics in the game are a major leap forward when compared to the original . I would place them on the same standards as Final Fantasy 9 . The backgrounds are very realistic and the character motion is pretty fluid until the character comes up close . The sound and cinematics are fantastic as well . Most of your surroundings are pretty quiet , very fitting for a survival-horror title . All in all , the only thing I feel that qualifies this game as an RPG is its STORY . Most survival-horror games don't have a story . I would say that PE2 is a combination of both . Just like the original Parasite Eve . Now my response to peoples ' complaints . . . After reading all 20 of the reviews for this product , one complaint stands out above all of them . . . . Play control . Many of the reviewers say it is terrible . Obviously , they haven't played the Resident Evil series , which has basically the same controls . My tip is , don't use the analog sticks if you are trying to get used to the controls . The D-Pad provides a better amount of control than the sticks . Second , use the shooting range . That's what it's there for ! The second complaint was about the battle system . I happen to love the real-time battle because it adds to the realism of the game . In fact , I feel the next Final Fantasy title should have a real-time battle system . The system in PE2 allows you to dodge an enemy's attack or even run and hide . Can you do that in any of the Final Fantasy games ? Didn't think so . Trust me . Give it some time and you'll grow to love it . The last complaint that stood out was that many of the enemies were too difficult . I feel sorry for you , really . If you want easy enemies , go out and buy Doom or Quake and enjoy the one-shot kills . Having harder enemies in a game is a MAJOR plus no matter what game it is . RPGs and Survival-Horror games are meant to have enemies that aren't killed in one shot and ammo is plentiful . What is the first word in Survival Horror ? If you put one-shot kills in this genre , games would be TOO easy . These types of games were MEANT to TAKE TIME to finish . Get over it .
    • 016 4  Now I'll be honest , I got the second game because I'd seen my relatives play the first game but hadn't experienced it myself yet .
    • 017 4  Parasite Eve is the most innovative game ever created , no doubt . Who would have ever thought up the idea of mitochondria that went wild and attacked America's most profound city , New York ? Not many people , except maybe a genius ! Parasite Eve II is not as special as PEI , but it certainly is a great game , and in many ways , it is better than the first Parasite Eve title . For one thing , in this new game , battle is in real time , unlike the first PE which had a Pokemon-style battle system , where each character took turns , esentially in fighting . Not anymore ! PEII is much more like Resident Evil , which makes fighting even more fun . The monsters are cooler in PEII , except it's missing the first Eve , no doubt the most awesome video game villian ever created . She was as cool as the script of the game ! But now , the monsters aren't just funny little animals loose . There are actually scary , Resident Evil-like monsters with awesome features and battle techniques ! ( Except for that damn Shaman Horse ! ) The guns are also better in PEII , and there is not as many features to get used to in PEII as in the first title . That's also way better ! The levels are generally cool , and for a Playstation title , the graphics are a big WOW ! even for a Gamecube and PS2 owner with games such as Metal Gear Solid 2 and Resident Evil on the GC . Now for the icky part-the innovative but awful control scheme ! I spent a half an hour trying to run straight ahead at first without running backwards , and vice-versa ! Actually , after a couple of hours , the controls may feel comfortable . That's until you go back to playing one of your other games with traditional controls . OUCH ! ! Parasite Eve II is definitely a fun game , if not a great game ! In most ways , it is better than PE , except for it's missing the classic Eve and the storyline and cinematics are a little weaker . ( However , the cinematics are the best that Squaresoft has ever produced ! ) Above all , if you liked the first PE , then you will be most pleased with this title ! If not , then maybe you are happier with Resident Evil or Super Mario games .
    • 020 4  Parasite Eve II took longer localisation than other Square titles like Vagrant Story and Chrono Cross , yet the title is a great dissapointment as if it takes only some few months for the process.I'll brief on pros and bummers on this title Pros : - Sharp pre-rendered backgrounds ( like RE ) - Some of the most memorable stunning FMVs ( sorry , Aya's not completely nude , guys ! ) - lots of weapons - replayability last longer Bummers : - Freakish controls - Storage system annoying unlike RE.Expect loads of repetitive trips to load / unload items and buy weapons - FMVs too little , not memorable as PE I - boring music score - [ poor ] translation ( please , Square , not on FFIX ! ) That is all of my brief review.Overall , not much to expect of this title , expect it like a B-graded game .
    • 021 4  I played the original Parasite Eve non-stop when I purchased it , with the first day of owning it proudly conquering it . Immediately I started a second game and to this day have played through the game at least 20 times . So when the sequel was announced , I gladly paid [ $ $ ] for the purchase . I went home and started playing , similarly to the excessive level of the original . However , Parasite Eve had taken a new spin and it was now basically Parasite Evil . Parasite Eve 2 abandons the RPG elements of the first game , and replaces that of Survival Horror ( possibly to compete with Capcom or Konami whom had made loads of money with Resident Evil and Silent Hill respectively ) . The core fan base of the original game were RPG gamers whom purchased the game based on the Sqauresoft logo and spread the word that the game was actually good . With the drastic changes to the gameplay , Square those fans and the game was a critical flop . Parastie Eve 2 is not really a bad game , there are easily a large amount of worse games , however as you play through it you can't really tell what kind of game you are playing and that gets a bit irritating / confusing . Overall the game fails to fix some of the blatant flaws of the first game , and some new additions add new flaws ( control ) to the gameplay that can not be overlooked this time around .
    • 022 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) It would be this game ! This game is great compared to PE1 , it has all the action the resident evil game ( s ) has including the suspense , spies , same controls and sorta undead enemies mixed with adventure and classic RPG rules . You get to be a spell caster and a have a gun ! Several different types of guns ( Not gonna say or it will ruin the fun ) it is a must own for any RPGer or someone looking for something new and just loved the RE series . Period .

    • 028 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) Straight to the point , the series started off as a chilling and entertaining RPG with an real time battle flare and ended up as a Resident Evil cloned sequel . The series could have ended with the first Parasite Eve , but Squaresoft decided to continue the series . What resulted was a sequel who's only tie to the original is really the main character and the use of her Parasite Energy . Take Aya Brea , Resident Evil style gameplay , and her parasite abilities and you basically have Parasite Eve II . Its Resident Evil with special powers . That can go one of two ways - - look at it as a stand alone game or survival horror game if you like , love , or are interested in the Resident Evil series ; or , you can hate , loathe , dislike , or bear it as the terrible sequel that surfaced . On the plus side , the interactive environments are a nice touch as they create a strategic approach in battles . You can find all kinds of weaponry to find the best possible way to deal with bosses . The Parasite Abilities mentioned above do add some strategy to the game as well . Its a tough call . As stated before , you either love it as a STAND ALONE title or hate is as a SEQUEL . Breakdown - Good : - Gameplay - Graphics - Cutscenes - Stand Alone title Bad : - Sequel - Nothing Like its predecessor - Storyline - Characters Question : - What made Squaresoft decide to go with a Resident Evil style approach ?

    • 041 4  Guess what ? They're back . The evil mitochondria from the first PE have shown up and this time they're crashing the party in Los Angeles . To top it off Aya is back . Is it just me or is she a little bigger ( as in chubbier ) and has bleached white hair . Making a return appearance is Eve , only this time she is a sweet innocent little girl . Lets get to it . The game is a very interesting hybrid . It is an RPG mixed with action , strategy , and plays like Resident Evil . This gives it some strengths and some glaring weaknesses . The strengths : the major strength lies in the battle system . It is real-time , so move your whatever or it will get knocked down , action . You move , shot and reload all while your enemy is sneaking up on you . It makes the game play like Resident Evil basically . The magic system has been revamped as well . Instead of gaining spells as you gain levels ( levels have been done away with entirely ) , you gain experience in battle and use it to invoke the spells ( 12 in ! all ) . The spells follow the fire , earth , wind , and water elements so you can figure out which element's abilities are . Trite isn't it . The controls have also been fine-tuned but can still be quite maddening . This occurs when ever you need to haul [ . . . ] fast , like in the Reactor battle . Sometimes it is just easier to use the digital controls instead of the analog . The negatives include the story , or rather the dialouge . The dialouge seems like it was written by a second grader that knew some big words . It's sad really , the first Parasite Eve was written very well . The only saving grace are Aya thoughts . These come up whenever she looks at items and the background . In one such example she looks at a toilet once and says Wow that's a nice toilet . Look at it again and she says dear God I need to get out more . Some rather humorous things can be found by analyzing everything till she repeats herself ( well I thought they were humorous ) . The other negative is this massive problem ! I have with so-called goverment conspiricies in video games ( and the world in general ) . They may happen in real life but they always seem tacked on in video games , and this game reeks with them . The games main part happens in Area 252 in Nevada while Aya looks for UFOs relating to NMC activity . Can anyone say Area 51 ? I almost got sick of watching the scenes in the White House , and is it just me or did Clinton call Aya very attractive ? ( Get the best ending if you need explaination . ) The story would of been much better if it was handled by the same group that did Vagrant Story . Now there was a good story and awe-inspiring dialouge . Also , this isn't the silent era anymore . If a game is described as a cinematic RPG ( like PE and PE2 ) it should have real voice everywhere , not just one worders here and there . The game Koudelka isn't a cinematic RPG and everything except item describtions is spoken ( rather well too ) . PE2 would have been much better with voice acting , even if it ! would mean adding a third disk because of memory limitations . Well with that said . My recommendation is to get the game if you can overlook the flaws . Just make sure that you get the player's guide too . It is almost impossible to get the best ending without it .
    • 045 4  People have have ranted and raved that the first Parasite Eve is much better than the second . They are extremely wrong . I can go on for hours listing what makes the second better than the first but I'll list key differences : There are no days in the second thank god , It gets to be a pain where your playing and you get near the end and then the next day comes out . It is very distracting . When your facing a monster you just shoot and reload like in the second , while you have to wait till your bar is filled up in the first . When your in the heat of a battle , you don't want to wait to have your bar filled up just to be able to shoot , use a PE , or use an item . The monsters are comic-like in the first , but in the second they are actually creepy and weird . Everybody says that the radar in the second is painfully annoying , but I would not only like to see the monsters , but see where they're at also so I dont run into them by surprise like the first . The story is also a huge difference between the two . Inthe first you keep returning to the station , musuem , etc . Parasite Eve 2 might do this for a little bit but it's refreshing to be in NEW ENVIRONMENTS . I swear in the first it gets boring really quick minus the other flaws . Weapons are another huge difference . In the second , weapons are original and can for certain weapons can have attachments . In the first there are very similiar guns you use all the time . Ok for creepiness , they are close , but the only thing keeping the first close to the second is EVE herself . After that , the second is ten times more creepy . All in all I give PE2 5 / 5 stars PE is a lousy 2 / 5 stars Oh and all Final Fantasy's are stupid and should be terminated . Peace !
    • 046 4  Although this time around , PE plays more like Resident Evil than Parasite Eve . That a bad thing you ask ? Nope . PEII is stilll as engaging and fun to play than the last . Do yourself a favor , and get this game .
    • 051 4  It may play like Resident Evil , but PE2 is actually quite original . I liked the first game and how they accomplished such a storyline , and I'm thankful the PE2 turned out much better than I had anticipated . The storyline is more involving than Parasite Eve 1 ; instead of the hectic slowpacing and that damn bar that recquired it to fill up before you can fire , Square rid PE2 of all of that [ stuff ] and developed an all out action adventure . It is still an RPG , mind you , even if you can fire whenever you like during battle . With a beautiful heroine and a handsome hero ( though he turns out to be not-so-hero-like in the end ) , the game resonates fun and good scares .
    • 053 4  The original Parasite Eve was the first game I ever purchased for my Playstation . It had an intelligent and well-developed storyline , laden with suspense and horror . The secondary characters endeared themselves to the player , and had individual goals and purposes . The cinematics were epic . The weapons and armor were customizable . Play control , while not perfect , was pretty darn good . Parasite Eve kept me intrigued from start to finish . I was never bored , and I was left wanting more . I should have left it at that . Its sequel , Parasite Eve 2 , was more than disappointing . The storyline had a been there , done that feel , and possessed none of the unpredictablility or suspense of the first . There's only so much mutation a player can witness before it gets tiresome . And forget about those cinematic scenes that were so horribly gruesome , one couldn't help but be drawn to them . The cinematics in PE 2 , while satisfying enough , are not in the same ballpark as PE . Another gripe I had was with the game setting . I would much rather have seen Aya stay in New York and develop her relationships with the secondary characters from the original game , than move to Los Angeles and hang out with a bunch of one-dimensional nitwits the player doesn't hear much from , anyway . I liked the setting of the original , and how the player got to see New York landmarks from a different perspective . I felt like I was playing Aya on her home turf , immersed in her culture , bringing her position on the NYPD to life , and it was exciting . The player will see nothing of Los Angeles in PE 2 , but will spend a lot of time wandering around the desert - - some place I did not know about , and did not care to know about . Heaven help us . Oh , and if that new MIST organization in L.A . is so top secret , why must Aya announce to everyone she meets : I'm with MIST , it's this top secret organization . . . Mm hm . I miss the NYPD . On to game control . Ouch . I was tinkering with the controls for at least an hour before I could even hit something with my gun . I spent the better part of the first disk smacking into walls while walking around . By the end of the game , I was not much better . The first person controls were tough to master , and coupled with the real-time battle system , the narrow camera angles , and ridiculously difficult monsters , my battle strategy was shot to heck . Forget running , dodging , even turning around . Who has time to think about game control when there's a monster whacking at you who is going to kill you in three hits ? I found my battle strategy reduced to stand where I am and shoot at whatever is closest . Unfortunately , the auto-target does not always choose the target posing the imminent threat . I got my bum kicked soundly and often . The difficulties imposed by the controls took a lot away from the enjoyment of the game . ( A note to anyone venturing to buy this game : spend time in the shooting range before you start . Spend LOTS of time in the shooting range before you start . ) The ability to customize weapons and armor was reduced to would you rather attach a bayonet OR extra ammo capability to this ONE particular weapon ? NO , you can't have both , and don't even THINK about attaching anything to other weapons ! What a let-down . And the PE abilities ? The system is interesting . There are four categories of abilities to choose from , ( like fire , electricity , and healing abilities ) and you can learn a new ability or make an old one more powerful by spending points on it . One problem : what happened to the abilities Aya learned leading up to her confrontation with Eve in the original PE ? She couldn't so much as light a candle with her PE powers at the beginning of PE 2 . What a wimp ! How would Aya possibly make her way to the FBI if she forgot all her powers ? If you're looking for a game with a lot of initial play time , this is not it , either . I finished the first disk in the first couple hours of playing , including time for all my play control-related deaths . I checked the box , checked the CDs , even replayed the scene before the end of the disk . I was genuinely SHOCKED the first disk was over . Two scenes , and that's half the game ? To counter the short play time , PE 2 has decent replayability . There are several unique modes to choose from after completing the game once , including bounty mode ( those tough golems near the end of the game appear from the beginning , can and WILL kill Aya in one hit ) and regular replay , with more options becoming available after those new modes are completed . Aya gets to start the replays with special items , different depending on how many points the player finished the previous completion with . Pretty nifty , that . In a nutshell : unless you're a player who likes to work exceptionally hard and be rewarded with nothing but a crummy ending , skip this game entirely . Spend more time playing the first PE and dreaming of a sequel worthy to follow it .
    • 057 4  I'm one of those veteran SquareSoft video game players , and I must say that this game was highly impressive . I'm more into RPG-type games , and usually I stay away from games with guns you actually have to shoot the gun yourself . I rented this game off of an impulse , not because I've played the original Parasite Eve . As I said before , I usually stay away from these types of games altogether . I found that this game was rather riveting from the start . You actually have to have control and you have to move to dodge enemy attacks . Much unlike the traditional RPG game , where your characters will magically dodge and take hits . I like the fact that it's combined a fighting style with traditional RPG gaming , and that really scored high marks with me . One thing that had me miffed for a while was the idea of movement . It takes some practice making sure up is move forward , down is move back . . all that hellish stuff you have to learn while playing a new game . After you learn it , though , it becomes second nature , and makes game play easy . As for the NMC's and ANMC's . . I was completely impressed . Yeah , I mean , some of them are hard [ especially those Desert Chasers . . I will kill the person who says they actually enjoy killing those things ! Kidding . . ] but you can't make a game like this easy , right ? The thing that impressed me most was the multiple endings and the other modes of play . Whoa ! You can't just play this game once and say you know it all . There's all sorts of things to still get done , more weapons to find . Replay Mode , Bounty Mode , Scavenger Mode , Nightmare Mode . . you can be kept busy for weeks . Not to mention the advertising that SquareSoft tacks all over the game is extremely cute . I also enjoyed the gun choices and the customizable features to both guns and armor . Each time you play the game , you can always make it different . . there's so much to explore , even if it's only two discs . I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys this type of game , and RPGers who , like me , have a phobia to any kind of game like this . I know I enjoyed it , and I know many others will , too .
    • 060 4  Good : Graphics Bad : Gameplay / Sound Unknown : Plot The graphics were pretty good , crisp , high detail , a bit dark though . Gameplay , unfortunately , is terrible . I've never before played with 1st person controls ( up-forward , left-turn left , right-turn right , down-back ) and a fixed camera . Now I know why . When dodging matters , this control scheme fails horrendously . Running into the wall while trying to dodge because I can't see what direction I'm facing isn't a challenge , it's frustrating . Now for cameras . Cameras were usually WAAAAAY too close to the action , resulting in shooting at and dodging things you never even see . Good thing for the radar . And on to targetting . The selection targetting by holding down the target button and selecting with controller is pointless . If you aren't firing , you had probably better be moving . Had this stopped time , it would have been a good feature , but as it is , useless . The default closest targetting was often buggy , especially in long corridors . One instance in particular in a long corridor I was constantly switching between two monsters WAY offscreen , ( not even in radar , finally ran down and realized what I was targetting ) , while a creature right next to me was hitting me . Now for music . Was there music ? I never noticed . The music in the original struck me as very creepy , and added to the mood tremendously . I can't even say for sure that there IS music in PEII . As for Plot , I really can't say , as I haven't and don't plan on finishing the game , even after having completed the first disk . To a certain extent the plot can't be that good , If I don't want to continue playing . . . but the interface is soooo bad that it could just be I have no desire to plod through a poor game , regardless of how good the plot is , or may turn out to be . Now , a note to developers : Making a game difficult by having monsters move fast , take a lot of hits , hit hard and think smart makes a game challenging . Making a game difficult by having terrible camera angles and difficult controls simply makes a game frustrating . There IS a difference . Finally , I'd like to say that PE 1 was a MUCH better game , and I'm gonna have to ask my sister for it back .
    • 062 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) I am not what one might call an overly hyped video game player . I dont go out and buy the next installment of FF ( after VIII , it really got bad imo ) , I enjoyed . hack and its storyline though ( but I felt that the series could have been brought together into one large game like with FFVII ) . Then there is the PE video game , I loved the first one , had some trouble , but over all it was a great game . I knew there was a part 2 , so I found a copy and started playing it . Boy . . . was I disappointed . First , the game play is terrible , the movement is haphazard , the angles are horrific , and its down right troublesome ( unlike the first one ) . I loathed the movement , there was none of the smoothness of the first one . Second , I hated the leveling , what leveling there is . You dont go up in your hit points , you barely go up in MPs and parasite powers , and even worse , when you go to a next scene ( from one point to the next in the story ) you go back down to your 100 hit points . Third , which is related to the angles , the combat is atrocious . There is nothing quick and exciting , in fact its down right stressful because ( since you rarely have a chance to get items for health unless you spend money between the scenes at home base ) you end up dying again and again until low and behold you get through with maybe 1 hit point left and then WHAM you are hit by another attack and you have to do the whole stupid thing over again . Even worse , the camera angles are so bad you rarely if ever see the enemies and just shoot blindly . Fourth , connected to three , the weapons are horrible to use . You end up getting killed repeatedly because you have to jerkingly reload so many times that when you are facing multiple opponents ( unlike the smoothness of the original first story ) and youre going to get killed unless you spend hours dealing with one combat situation . Fifth , items , with the original first game , you got lots and lots of items . With this game , you are in luck if after three or four attacks ( bringing you down to 1 hit point ) you finally strike it and get a recovery2 pill that brings you back up to original hit points but then again those hit points are taken down again by the end of the next combat round . While the story line might be interesting , it fails in comparison to the first one and by all means , the poorness of this game in the controlling just makes you so fed up that you dont care how this story ends . Its a bad , bad game that could have been a great sequel if only the company had followed the original game's beauty . Dont buy this game unless you have lots of headache medicine . I can't believe it , but I actually hate this game .
    • 063 4  I am not what one might call an overly hyped video game player . • 064 4  OK , I dont even know where to start with this game . I guess i'll start with the pro's since it'll be such a small list . Pro's : This game has an incredible storyline , one of the best I've ever seen or played . Although not very realistic , it keeps you stuck to your seat , which is normally good , but in this game , your trying to get out of your seat . the CG's in here are nice , although very few of them . The background graphics are probably the only thing that was the better than any game i've ever seen . Well , those are the pro's , now for the con's . . . this is gonna be long . . . Con's : First off , the character graphics are horrible . They display no emotion , not even close to human physics movement . There are no voices , not one , during your entire playing experience . The battle system is horrible , as the enemies become extremely strong , and they can come in groups , which make the chances of winning even harder . Plus , when you start a battle , you fight exactly where you stand , so if your in a tiny corridor when you begin your fight , you'll be in that tiny corridor . At first , this may seem cool , but when you get trapped in a corner with a . . . pistol , and two huge monsters are whackin you upside the head , it becomes clear real fast that fighting in the same area , and not goin to a separate fighting field like most RPG's is not in your favor . The normal screen , when your just walking around , and even fighting is horrible , as there are pre-set camera angles that can't be cahnged , most of the time the camera angle is pointed at you , so it gives the game a more movie like experiance , even in battle , it'll be like this . So many times you have no clue where you're going , and when your fighting , you have no clue what your shooting , as the enemy is always ahead of you , and you canrarely see ahead of you . See my point ? The invntory screen was made amazoingly bad , as you will spend an enormous amount of time trying to navigate around the menu , just putting things in the right order . Also , there is no character leveling up . So I don't even know why they call it an RPG . There are very few cinematics , and the cinematics are very short . How did this game become known as the , Cinematic RPG in the forst place ? The bosses are either extremely easy , or terrifyingly hard . as many times , if you get hit once or twice , you'll die . The game is also one of those , Run to the end of the map , grab an item , then run all the way back to the beginning , just to grab aother item , then do it all over again . . and again . . . The game is also very short , as I beat it in eleven hours . Overall , this is how i put it to my firend . The game is so horribly made , so stupidly put together , that you want to burn it or something . Yet the storyline is so good , so grabbing , that I ended having to play such a horrible game just so I could see what happened . When I finally beat it , I was thankful that I knew the storylinecould say that I beat it , and never had to look ator think about that horrible game ever again . . . Ahhh bliss . . . .
    • 066 4  Parasite Eve was arguably the best RPG since Final Fantasy took off , and for good reason . But where PE had the most original storyline I have ever seen ( yes , I mean that ) , it plays a little stale in PEII as it just seems too familiar . And those unbelievable CG sequences in PE were too few and far between . Don't get me wrong , there is plenty to keep you interested , but I simply wasn't as thunderstruck as I was with PE , as far as the movie clips were concerned . And the ending . . . I felt like I had done a lot of work and got very little reward . What has improved is the fighting . Except for the bosses , you can actually get through the game with nothing but conventional ( OK , some not-so-conventional ) weaponry . There is something satisfying about firing a grenade at your enemy and following up with a round from your rifle . And the parasite energy abilities are as always a joy to use and develop . I'm not the first one to say it , but the real-time action really does make for an exciting game . If I hadn't been spoiled by the remarkable PE first , this might have been a terrific game . But I was , and since most people will play PE before PEII , I think that's a flaw . Electronic Arts should have waited and developed this game more instead of hurrying to follow up on the PE success .
    • 070 4  Let me start with this . I bought a playstation , a memory card , and the game JUST to play Parasite Eve I . ( 1 , not 2 . ) I had played it at my friends house and become totally wrapped up in the beautiful , amazing storyline when she moved to another state , taking my progress and everything else with her . I only had a N64 . It took me no time to consider ; I immediately ran out and bought the game . I love Parasite Eve I . It's the most unique , beautiful , fantastic , depressing , amazing game I have EVER seen . Close to the 4th day , the characters are rubbing off on you , and you really feel close to them , as though you were actually Aya . There are a few times where you get in a laugh or two due to what's being said , I.E . : ( small spoiler ) Is he really a policeman ? If you mean , have we scientificly proven it , no . It's just an amazing game ! I could go on for hours about it ! But . I bought PE 2 soon after I got PE I , because of course , I wanted the sequel . I expected more of what I had loved in the first - I'd already seen pictures and information , but figured that it could only get better . I was wrong . The game's CG movie graphics have become better . But , there is a huge difference . In PE I , you start off the game by having several movies lead in past the statue of liberty ( beautifully done ) and down to the theater , where we meet Aya and her boyfriend , about to go into the opera . In PE 2 , we hear her talk about what she's been doing over the years , and see a flashback while she shoots things in the shooting gallery . Okay . This is my opinion , so don't kill me for it . I have the gameplay system . The shooting is obnoxious , you can waste a million bullets on something because they're just barely out of range . If you have 2,000 bullets in your pack , but not in your pockets , you CAN'T RELOAD . This absolutely kills me in boss battles . And the first real boss battle wtih that ugly-faced dude with all the mystery behind him is so obnoxious ! He's laughing and snarling through-out the whole battle , in this really stupid way . In PE I , you battle with a preeeeeeetttyyy evil chick , who's singing OPERA through the whole thing ! Get the difference ? ! the PE powers bite . What the heck happened to liberate ? ! What's aya's excuse for forgetting LIBERATE ? ! shrieks Anyway , if you like games where you wander around , shooting REALLY ugly monsters and people , go on ahead and play this game . I own it , but haven't played it since I hit the desert , because I became so bored with the storyline . Oooh , wow , a crying girl in the bathroom . Oh , gee , she turned into a monster . BIG SURPRISE .
    • 071 4  The first PE had problems - Aya's painfully slow movement , some bad camera angles , etc . - but was overall a good game . This . . . this is a travesty . First , the movement system is * miserable * . Character-relative movement is an abomination , painful , and results in many many deaths . Second , Aya's Parasite powers are pathetic - how did she go from taking on Eve and the Ultimate Being to this ! ? Eve would have turned this Aya into mincemeat . Third , why is Aya suddenly young and dressing in bizarre fashion ? I dunno about you , but * I'd * wear body armor , or at least long pants , when confronted with creatures like that . In terms of plot and characterization . . . there isn't any that I had the patience to see . Aya's sole reaction on seeing a human ( or apparent human ) mutate boils down to so what . This , from a woman who freaked at seeing the rat mutate , who has not seen anything else mutate since finishing off the Ultimate Being . . . who seemed to think nothing else was going to mutate . Stupid puzzles , uninteresting secondary characters ( where's Ben ? Maeda ? Daniel ? Wayne ? ) . . . Pass on this one . Play the original again .
    • 076 4  PE1 was VERY good , In my opinion , it had great movement , battle system , weapons , and it didn't leave you all twisted up into a little ball trying to figure out what to do next . PE2 ahem . . . . What the heck happened to Aya ? She got all pudgy and the graphics got worse and the movement is painfully slow . You don't get the suspense where in PE1 you'd turn a corner and then there was a heartbeat and you'd be like Holy Crap ! But in PE2 you're all like How come my hp is going down ? Oh another monster ? And it's like you didn't know when you entered the cafeteria that the woman was all the sudden turning into some bloody monster ? In other words , IT IS NOT WORTH PLAYING , GET FF8 OR PLAY PE1 ! ! ! ! !
    • 079 4  This review is from : Parasite Eve II ( Video Game ) DID YOU REALLY EXPECT PARASITE EVE 2 TO TOP OR EVEN COME CLOSE TO BEING AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL I DONT THINK SO BUT FOR A SEQUAL ITS A GREAT GAME AND A DIFFERENT STORY THE ONLY THING I WAS PISSED ABOUT WAS THAT DANIAL WASENT IN THE SECOND LOL
    • 086 4  this game is gangster , this game makes me angry sometimes , with the stupid dog zombies that takes 20 hits to kill , like you dig when you trying to figure out a puzzle and you keep running into these Stone Cold Steve Austin looking Dogs , the graphics are tight you dig , you got these powers , see what im saying ? the worst thing on this game , is when your fighting 3 zombies dogs at the same time , see what im saying ? just run like mug . but sometimes you'll have to fight them , see thats that phoney , these monsters are stupid , see you dig on RE ( Resident Evil ) the monsters on RE are fun to kill , on PE ( Parasite Eve ) these monsters its best just to run.but heh heh i forgot you'll have to kill them to get your points up to get stronger are you'll have no chance . see what im saying ?

  • 058 4  When I first got home from the store , I happily tore the rapping off of my game . I liked it for awhile , but then I got stuck , I know some of you out there are saying to yourselfs Just cause you can't figure it out doesnt mean that I can't ! . Well I wish I could be as smart as all of you because I found the game to be VERY HARD ! Don't get me wrong , it is a very fun game . . . until . . . you reach a puzzle . At just about evey puzzle I got to I had to call the help line . WHen i got the answers to the puzzle they werent even what i thought they would be . So all I have to say is , if you like sitting and stareing at your tv for hours trying to figure out the answers , then buy it , but if you are just a regular gamer then leave the next copy you see at the store there for somebody else cause it's criptic puzzles arent for everybody . So all in all i thought the game was um . . . let me think . . . well . . . NOT GOOD . So i gave it a 3 / 5 stars .
    • 012 4  This game had excellent graphics for its time and is a pretty solid buy . . . maybe . If you can find a way to ignore the abysmal control , you will most likely enjoy it . Other than that , don't even think about it .
    • 052 4  First off the first game was awsome . Although anyone without a game shark probably couldnt make it past the burner this one was far better . The graphics and cinematics are the best ever . And the plot is so awsome . But i don't wanna spoil it for you , my recomendation is BUY THIS GAME ! And buy it here .

  • 067 4  In all my time as a video gamer , I have never been so disappointed . The original Parasite Eve , although not perfect , was a fun , quirky title that took the survival horror genre in a different direction . Most every game element could be customized , the weapons and armor being a personal favorite . The storyline kept me hooked , the graphics were great ( unlike another Square overhyped title , FFVII ) , the pre-rendered backgrounds were nice and moody and the music was outstanding . I still listen to the soundtrack on occasion . Also the Parasite powers should be mentioned . Akin to magic spells in traditional RPG's , they were powerful and showed what Square could do . Now , enter this travesty . They took an already stellar game and turned it into another bad Resident Evil clone . Character controls became typical of the RE series . If they were going to go that far , why not use the same weapon controls as well ? Why change it to the insipid system they decided on ? Personally , I liked the dome from the first game . Camera angles are more abusive in this title than the last one . The freedom of customizing weapons is also a thing of the past . All that can be done now is an attachment here or there , like flashlights or a flame thrower . And the parasite powers , one of the more powerful abilities in the first game , are now the weakest in this one . Oh , how I miss the Liberate ability . Also , what's up with that armor attachments ? Hope your planning strategy for necessary items in battle is better than mine . Or at least hope you don't mind continuous reloads after dying . Graphically , there are few complaints . Square has managed to push the Playstation to even better heights . Backgrounds move and are more interactive . ( The first part as Aya walks up to the Akropolis tower is stunning . ) Music is also alright , although nothing like the first one . Story is my last complaint . It was a high point in the first game . Story in this title is generic at best . Like comparisons of Metal Gear Solid and Syphon Filter . Story in MGS was integral to the game . Syphon Filters was more of an afterthought . Squaresoft impressed me with Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy VIII . It has disappointed me with this game and Final Fantasy VII . It's batting 2 for 2 so far . Rates like that would get one kicked off any decent baseball team . I hope something better is around the corner .
    • 018 4  I rented the game got stuck with the game ( it's so cool ) and the overdue wiped out my wallet.well anyway the game is is fun if you like shooting and RPG like games theres a lot of puzzles in it.and the battle mode gets hard since it's real time.the first level is like a training level it's realy easy second of all FF8 players will love this when you beat the game with enough points and do replay mode you can get the gunblade ( squalls weapon in FF8 ) and with demolithon ammo in it time it right and it can do up to 3,000 HP thats a heck of a lot in this game get the game you won't be disapointed .
    • 078 4  PE2 is sort of like FF8 in compareson to the game that preceded it . In my opinion the games before these 2 ( PE FFVII ) are of much better quality mostly in the plot area . Parasite Eve , though short had an extreamly good plot that ended in a sort of cliffhanger . Which left you to belive that there was going to be a sequal . Unfortunatly PE2 does not continue PE like part 2 of a 2part episode . It basically takes the main character and a few tid-bits of the early plot and makes up another story in a way it's like a remake of the first one . This game is worth buying ( unlike ff8 ) .

  • 074 4  . . . The first time I saw this game's cool CG movies I jumped up , ran to the store , and bought this and Dino Crisis 2 . At least DC2 was worth the [ money ] . First off , with this game a memory card is REQUIRED . Thatd be no big deal to me if my mem cards werent already filled with other saves . Instead I found myself dying halfway thru the game ( which is 2 cds ) and being forced to start from the VERY BEGINNING . Apparently these people have never heard the term continue ? The game took me 9 hours to complete the SECOND TIME . So unless you have 9 straight hours of free time , I suggest you invest in a new mem card before picking up this game . Then again , maybe you shouldnt ever bother . The controls are horrible . The item user interface is clunky and often annoying . The only cool thing about this game is the amazing CG movies , which actually arent that plentiful . Theres TONS of text conversations between characters with NO voice acting . Would it have killed them to add VOICE ACTING ? The regular game play and characters also dont look as detailed as DC2 . Though the story line was half decent and it has some great CG movies , it just wasnt worth the money . If youre looking for a good survival game , try Dino Crisis 2 instead .
    • 081 4  i just recently purchase parasite eve 2 for 20 dallars and i didn't really like the game the first 20 minute of playing , i say that the cutcsence ( movie ) was preety awsome , i didn't play thou the whole game to know the storyline . . and i was surrprised bout the fcs , but i didn't like it because , to me i think it is trying to be like resident evil , and they realy did something with the control's ( character movement ) it was hard to control her . ( the turning ) . how the characterlook it's alright , the text i didn't like , i mean compare this to the first parasite eve game . it's a whole lot better than parsite eve 2 . wut a waste of my 20 dallar's

  • 075 4  man this is a poor game i bought it , played it for an hour and thought this cant be it but it is . . . theres no voice acting so the atmosphere is cack and the battle system is really bad . a game like this relies on gut feeling and instincts , not to be told how much hp was taken off the player should not be told . The cut scenes are good and the camera at the beginning ( i sold it after that ) was reasonably good . This game just feels like a sub-par resident evil . Even the graphics are not upto resie standards the developers didnt use pre renders like capcom so the areas look ok at best . The enemies are reasonably well animated and look solid enough but dont provide the visual oomph that resie's deadites do . You shouild be able to see the flesh hanging off them but nope . Whats with the rpg elements too ? Again it detracts from the atmosphere when you recieve bp or whatever from kills and use it to upgrade , it just doesnt work and feels tacked on . If they were goimg to do something like this then they could have , made it at least a bit more in-depth like other rpgs . There are many faults to this game and all add up to a below standard rpg / action type thing . not good at all . If you're wanting survival horro best check out resident evil 2 .
    • 068 4  Simply put , more of the greatness from the first game . If you have'nt played the first one , then do yourself a favor and buy both ! Ideliron

  • 077 4  When I first bought Parasite Eve for Playstation , I was amazed at how great the game was , how well it played , how great the stroyline was and how much fun it was to play . Then I heard they made a sequel . It is not at all like the original . The controls and battle system are messed up , the story [ stinks ] , and it is annoying to play . Square really blew it with this one . If they make a Parasite Eve 3 they better go back to basics .
