Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny

  • 018 4  Fans of Onimusha Warlords and survival horror in general won't be disappointed . Onimusha 2 builds on the premises of the first game and adds enough new wrinkles to keep the gaming experience fresh . Samurai horror is alive and well in this installment.First , here the few negatives I found with the game ( and they are few and minor ) . The opening CG movie , while well rendered , doesn't compete with the original Onimusha's lyrical majesty . The game music is solid but once again can't touch the sweeping score of part one . The rock song behind the attract mode , Russian Roulette , is quite good but does not fit the mood of the game . And finally , no Japanese voice overs ! Not a problem for most Americans but this very Japanese game is best served by being heard with its native language . Everything else about the game is great ! Play control is much improved over Warlords , with easy to do special combos and easier Critical Hits . There are charge up attacks , special attacks , and nice magic attacks . Any style of player can get well into the game whether they are mad slashers or patient one strike swordsmen . Be warned , however , that the patient player who uses blocking , charged attacks and critical hits will be better rewarded than the slasher . You can play as many as 5 different characters during the game ( Hero Jubei , Swordmistress Oyu , Gunner Magoichi , Ninja Kotaro , or Warrior Monk Ekei ) . There is a unique ( sometimes annoying ) gift giving system that allows Jubei to cultivate friendships with different characters , and each play through of the game and the storyline will change depending on who allies with you . Some playable characters die , some turn traitor , others are just cute n ' cuddly-Oyu looks great taking a shower in a waterfall . Each character has different weapons , strengths , weaknesses , and magic attacks . The creatures encountered are a nice mixture of new and old , although I miss not seeing Ashigaru Zombies . Likewise the terrain covered is a mixture of new and old-the best parts of the game for me were reentering the hellish , partially destroyed Gifu castle ( scene of most of part 1 ' s action ) . Many historical Japanese figures are here again ( Oda Nobunaga , Tokichiro ( Toyotomi Hideyoshi ) , Fuma Kotaro ( leader of the clan of ninja serving the Hojo daimyos-in real life it was Tokichiro who brought down the Hojos ) , and even Jubei . Gifu castle was actually Nobunaga's power base ( until building his fortress ( Azechi ? ) in Kyoto ) . Once the game is over and Nobunaga is dust ( until part 3 ) , there's lots of replay value . Many more cut scenes and plot developments can be discovered . Lots of secrets and modes to be unlocked-Kickass Mode ( all the items you need to blow through the game ) , Critical Mode ( enemies only killed through a critical hit ) , Hard Mode , Phantom Puzzle Realm ( solve puzzle boxes and win artwork of Japanese maidens ) , costume changes for Oyu and Jubei , scenario paths ( shows you where you were and where you're missing cutscenes ) , Onimusha 3 trailer , The Man In Black minigame ( a race against time to pick up film strips , armed only with a sponge stick ) , and the Team Oni minigame ( play as whatever characters you've unlocked to destroy 20 levels of enemies ) are some of the extras waiting to be discovered . All fun and not too difficult ( unlike the Oni Spirits game in part one ) . All in all , tight gameplay , loads of options , great graphics , exceptional relpay value , and a nice storyine make Onimusha 2 a hit !
    • 001 4  Great game for people who would like to see Onimusha1 and Final Fantasy combined . Improvements were definately intended on character interaction . The games story line is greatly based on how you trade special items with the other four characters in the game . I've finished the game twice but I've yet to unlock all of the side stories with the other characters . Personally I think this detracts from the game but my wife , who loves the long Final Fantasy stories , loved trying to figure out how to open all the side stories . Some of the side stories do add a lot to the game , I just didn't like spending so much time trying to unlock them all . ( I usually hand the controller to my wife whenever the game switches from action to game plot ; - ) If you don't mind talking to all the characters in the game two or three times , then you'll probably love this game . The action and graphics are much better than the first Onimusha . There's also a couple new weapons that add significantly . ( The War Hammer kicks @ $ $ ) Although the game is still too short , if you liked Onimusha 1 like I did then you'll probably love this game . Disclaimer : I bought and played the Japanese version of Onimusha2 which may be different than the American release .
    • 002 4  This review is from : Onimusha 2 : Samurai's Destiny ( Video Game ) If you follow my game reviews you know by know that I prefer the long drawn out , story oriented RPG's to those that take less than twenty hours and have a huge kill to puzzle ration . But when the price drops low enough I find it can be worthwhile to play through the more notable games in this genre . Onimusha 2 is certainly one of these . Being a fan of all things Japanese I find the samurai based plot , which sends Jubei Yagyu , young chief of a clan destroyed by Oda Nobunaga , on a journey of revenge and redemption . Nobunaga is one of the largest figures in Japanese history - a warlord who wielded immense power in the 16th Century . The premise of Onimusha is that Nobunaga died in 1560 and was resurrected as a demon ( the historical Nobunage lived until 1580 ) . Jubei's quest exposes him to both human and demonic opponents , one after another , and each more colorful . Besides the puzzle solving and , often , wholesale slaughter , Samurai's Destiny has you use the Japanese custom of gift giving to cement relationships with five possible companions . The most important of these is Oyu , a mysterious woman who appears dressed as a samurai and quickly wins Jubei's heart . How you trade gifts and fulfill you're your obligations to these characters determines what your experience of the game is , and can provide considerable interest . The game is beautiful to look at , and generally well animated . My only real irritation it with its insistence on using the direction buttons for character movement . This reduces an otherwise gracefully game to one where poor Jubei often has to bounce of a wall to get to a treasure . Otherwise Samurai's Destiny is a very pleasant diversion .

    • 005 4  This review is from : Onimusha 2 : Samurai's Destiny ( Video Game ) Just two words that describe Onimusha 2 , absolutely good . It's so much fun to play and I think this is easily one of my favorite new games to play . My favorite character in the whole game is of course Kotaro Fuma , that ninja boy that Jubei meets in Imasho . This is such a great video game , the scenery ( in Imasho alone ) is gorgeous ! The fighting is fun in this game . The backstories many characters have are great . I didn't really like the character interaction but I can see how some people might like it . Overall , this is a great game .

    • 007 4  Onimusha Warlords was an awesome game , and now Capcom has done it again with Onimusha 2 . You'll see some familiar areas in Onimusha 2 that you have encountered in Onimusha Warlords , but that's ok ! You'll have fun slicing and bashing your enemies with four powerful weapons ( Thunder Sword , Ice Lance , Wind Lance , and Earth Hammer ) , plus the extremely powerful Rekka Ken ( Fire Sword ) . The graphics have been immensly improved in Onimusha 2 . The enemies have also been improved . It is not quite that easy to eliminate your opponents any more , which makes the game even more fun . It is great going up against an opponent twice your size and trying to have a one on one battle . You'll love using the Earth Hammer on larger opponents , because it does hurt them ! The thud sounds from the Earth Hammer striking your opponent is amazing ! It's fun watching the demons drop to their knees after being demolished by the Earth Hammer ! Another great aspect of this game is that there are four characters in addition to Jubei ( the Samurai you will be playing with ) . You have the opportunity to play with these characters throughout the game , with a great storyline . Definately buy this game . You'll never get tired of playing it ! I just keep playing it to fight demons over and over again !
    • 008 4  Onimusha 2 is not a bad game , actually , it's pretty damn good . The additional characters , variety of bonus mini-games , and special items obtained thereafter all make for great replay value , and the Earth Hammer is off the hook . Yagyu Jubei is a famous swordsman in Japan , so it's nice to see more historical references . However , the game did not carry on the survival-horror feel quite as well as did the first game , and the trading system is a bit time-consuming ( and sometimes , just plain frustrating , especially when trying to convince that dog at the gold mine to give you his buried items ) . Also , the controls get very frustrating when playing the mini-games , particularly when trying to uncover film strips and run up and down spiral staircases . Finally , what happened to the Japanese dialogue ? Jubei does not gain that pimp recognition that Samanosuke carried when speaking in that goofy dubbed voice . I am looking forward to the third addition to the series ; it would be nice to finally fight and kill Guildenstern ( where was he this time around ? ) and that little punk Tokichiro , as opposed to the same bosses over and over again . Here's an idea : take Kibagami Jubei from Ninja Scroll to star in the game , as well as the Eight Devils of Kimon ; they would make for excellent bosses and there wouldn't be a need to have repeat boss battles ( I guess make Nobunaga the Shogun of the Dark ? ) .
    • 009 4  Onimusha 2 is a great game , pure and simple . For those who have played and enjoyed the first game , Onimusha : Warlords , you will be in for a treat . Gameplay is essentially the same , but the graphics and the story are even better . The game pits you as Jubei Yagyu ( really Yagyu Jubei Mitsuyoshi - a real historical swordsman , son of the great Shinkage ryu swordsman Yagyu Tajima Munenori ) , on a mission to avenge the death of your clan . Along the way you receive the aid of one of four other characters , who you must first befriend by trading gifts . Each character has his / her own distinctive tastes , and you must choose wisely in order to keep them all happy . At first I thought this aspect of the game was gimicky , but I must admit that I rather enjoyed it . It is just another one of the puzzle-solving pieces that you must perform in this game . The graphics are top-notch , with lush backgrounds and beautifully-rendered characters . The dubbing / voice acting is pretty bad , but no worse than in any dubbed samurai movie ( which is why I always recommend watching foreign movies with subtitles - - I wish Capcom would have done that with this game ) . Some might complain that the game is too short . If you are like me - a part-time gamer who plays a few minutes here and there when I have the chance - then this won't be a problem . It seemed like a fine length to me . The one thing that bugs me about this game is the demon thing . I know , I know , it is a game in part about demons and monsters . But for a game set in feudal Japan , you'd think they would use traditional Japanese mythological creatures , such as tengu . Most of the enemies you meet are fine , but the bosses are just plain wierd . They have strange , very non-Japanese sounding names . And what is with the robots you meet in the gold mine ? For someone like me , who is into traditional Japanese culture and martial arts , it detracted a bit from the game . But that's what Capcom is al about , right ? Just look at Devil May Cry and the first Onimusha . If you can put up with the odd camera angles and with the absolutely terrible controls ( which , once you get to know , are passable at least ) , then go out and get this game . Hardcore gamers who like to finish in one or two sittings should rent . Those who take their time , or who like samurai games ( even ideosyncratic ones ) , would do well to buy .
    • 014 4  Although this game has not yet been released , I did play it for a brief while in a gaming store , and I was hooked . I am basically an RPG fan , and although I usually play those games , this game intrigued me right away . The graphics are exceptional , and the storyline is very entertaining , but my one problem with the game was the controls . They were very awkward and made it hard to move the main character . Despite this however , I think that the game is definately worth buying .
    • 015 4  This would surely be the best game on the PS2 if it were just a little bit longer . I have to warn you , if you're looking for a fun game , then you've found it , but if you don't like short games maybe you should reconsider buying this . Personally , I have never played such a great a game and I would recommend it to any Capcom fan . It's like Street Fighter , Final Fantasy , and Resident Evil all in one game , so if you like any of those ( and don't mind how short the game is ) buy Onimusha 2 : Samurai's Destiny right now ! Graphics - 10 Sound - 9.8 Difficulty - 9 Gameplay - 10 Length / Lasting Appeal - 6.5 OVERALL - 9.3
    • 016 4  This game is the best game in the world . I couldnt stop playing it.It has more weapons than the first and longer. The bosses are the best to . This game is a must buy playstation 2 game.It is one of the best i have ever played. And the graphics are amazing.I hope they make an onimusha 3 becouse i will get it when it comes out .
    • 020 4  This review is from : Onimusha 2 : Samurai's Destiny ( Video Game ) This game really rocks . If you enjoyed the first one then you will like this one better . The game takes a lot longer to compete compared to the first one . You have to choose your allies and you get choose who will be your closest ally . Mosters are a lot harder than the first one as well as the bosses . The need to trade gifts was an excellent idea . Last but not least the mini games are a lot better than in the first one . The only thing Capcom must improve to make Onimusha3 even better is to put the Japanese language back like on the first one ; change the camera angle like like any FPS games and still being able to look around you , kind of like Zelda or Mario64 o that way you have a completely 3D enviroment . Capcom should get rid off the intro song when you are not playing the game because this is not Japan . Anyways please do not hesitate and buy the game , it will keep you busy .

    • 022 4  I own a PS2 and am an avid gamer . I own the prequel to this game Onimusha : Warlords , I loved it the graphics a superb , in the sequel Onimusha 2 Samurai's Destiny the game is 5 times better than the first one , the storyline took hold only minutes after starting playing it . You begin the game as Jubei Yagyu and are set of to avenge the death of the entire Yagyu Clan who was destroyed by Oda Nobunaga's Demon army . The Variety of the characters in this one is better and are more of them . All in all if you like Resident Evil or Devil May Cry , even Silent Hill style games , you'll like this one too .
    • 023 4  If you're fan of the original , then you must buy the sequel . The sequel offers more techniques , new weapons , secrets to unlock , and hidden characters with their own story lines . This game will keep you wanting to play it over several times to unlock many of the secrets , therefore making your money well spent . Highly recomended ! !
    • 024 4  If you played Onimusha 1 this is a game that you must play , but one of the things that i dont like is the camera movement , sometimes you dont know whos attacking you . . . Although the cinematics are very cool , and the graphics improvement was notable in some parts of the game you feel lost . I recomend that bought this game used or rent it ! Lets Wait Onimusha 3 to see what happens
    • 025 4  This game was fun when I first got it , but now the question arises , is this game a good game or not ? Well , yes and no . I'd have given this a higher rating were it not for some things that were dumb . The gameplay is great at first ! But eventually its just the same thing over and over again . The gameplay starts to repeat itself over and over and over . Kill something exchange items with a character . This become very annoying . If this game were more of an RPG and not some action game it would've been better . A LOT better . The exchanging gifts was cool and a great concept but it gets boring really fast sometimes when you're just receiving the same gift over and over again . When you actually got to battle a bunch though the game really hits high when they're a lot of enemies around , but like I said battling gets repetive at times and easily gets frustrating later on in the game when you start to notice that enemies can block anything . Also , its annoying to keep fighting the same goddamn boss over and over again ! I felt like I was playing Devil May Cry fighting every boss like three times . The cutscenes in the game are brilliant ! But the characters have no real depth behind them . There isn't anything this game does to make you feel much of anything for the characters . To make matters worse they tried to throw in a love story and that wasn't too good either . I like the fact that the game does actually give off replay . If you actually liked battling and can deal with it all the time , this game has lots of replay . But you also have to like the gift exchange system . Depending on who you trade with most depends on who you're most allied with . Its possible to play all the four different scenarios in one game ! If you trade and battle a lot then cool . Leveling up your armor is ok , but once its all maxed out why the hell would you want anymore souls ? There isn't much to this game at all . It has tons of mini-games and secrets . But near the end the game gets boring and is the same basic thing over and over again . The music score is brilliant , but isn't quite as good as the first game . The game is a little harder but I still think it was easy until that final boss battle . The game has different game modes and thats kinda cool too . But the game would've been much better as and RPG rather than an acton game . OVERALL The good + Fantastic Music + Great cinematics and graphics + Battling can be fun + Trading gifts was creative + Pretty good storyline for something done over and over + Cool secrets + Good replay for the different scenarios The Bad - Too much battling gets repetitive - Trading can get boring and predicable - The ending isn't much of an ending - Would've been better as an RPG - Too much of the same battling as in the last game Overall its good but the fact that you don't play as Samanosuke kinda sucks ! I hate sequals where they almost never mention what the previous character ( s ) did in the last one .
    • 026 4  Onimusha 2 is very fun . . . . The gameplay is very good and has a few add-ons unlike its predocessor , like the mode called Onimusha where one has to get 5 white orbs to become an onimush for way too short of a time. The garaphics are insane and I only saw one flaw in the graphics . . The controls are very easy and don't take that long to get used to . . The story is cool and is mostly the same as Onimusha . . . The new weapons I think are better and funner and stronger than the ones from the first Onimusha. The game is a little longer than the first and can take up to 14 hours if your an ameteour ( no offense ) . I reccomend buying this game if you liked the first and if you like adventure or RPG games .
    • 027 4  A lot improved from the first one . If you've played the first one , no doubt the second one is better with the extended stages . Graphics and everything are still the best . Only the movement is still [ bad ] but that's not a big deal . Especially when there's a CAPCOM embroyed on the cover surely this game won't let you down . . . and for me . . . it's . . . ( ^ _ ^ )
    • 028 4  Actually I beat the game shortly after the game was released , so this is a late review . Anyway , overall this game is fun and quite challenging . It has awesome weapons , awesome fighting style , awesome graphics and sound . However , the gameplay is very very short . it only took me a week to beat this game w / o spending hours on it every day . I was really disappointed when I realized I was about to fight Nobunaga that soon . Also , some parts of the story are somewhat laughable / ridiculous , especially the part shows how Jubei's dad and mom met . Trading items with other characters are also very tedious and boring that you'll have to do so very often . Finally , the major problem is lacking of bosses . You'll eventually fight the same bosses 2 to 3 times . I hope the Omnimusha 3 ( the final chapter ) will have a lot of improvement over this . Actually the story behind Omnimusha series remind me final fantasy X . That is , every time after Nobunaga is defeated , he will reborn after certain time . That's why the peace after defeating Nobunaga wouldn't last long , and this cycle will continue . I guess the final chapter will wrap this up . Since the game is so short , I suggest to rent it instead .
    • 029 4  When I started playing this game I could not put it down . It's graphics and gameplay are unbeleivable . this is a definite must-play ! It has a multiple variattion storyline . meaning what you do during the game affects the plot . If you love an awsome experince then go buy this game .
    • 030 4  The graphic for this game really makes you wonder why GTA is still in the market even with PS1 generation graphic . This game is fun to play and has good story line that keeps you captivated . The only drawback is that the game is not long enough . You can finish it in 10 - 13 hours first time around . But fret not , you'll have four scenarios on where the story can go depending on what you do in the game . All in all , I can't wait for Onimusha 3 . I wonder which actress they are going to use .
    • 032 4  I got this game after I rented it . When I got it a few days later I went out and bought the stratigy guide . When I looked at it I was disapointed because when I rented it I only had it for 3 days , when I looked at the stratigy guide I figured out I was almost done with it . I still had alot of fun playing it though . If you like games like The Thing ull like this because it has a great deal of gore . All together it was fun and short .
    • 033 4  First of all I'd like to say cheers to Capcom for bringing another good game to my collection . Now onto the good stuff ! Story : A cliche for a story , a village is attacked by demonish soldiers , killing everyone they see . Who's leading them ? Nobunaga , the baddie of the first Onimusha . Jubei , the hero , finds his village destroyed and promises revenge . Like I said , a bit cliche but it works . Score : 4 / 5 Graphics : Wow , these are sweet ! The character models are very well done , each of them with well done movements . The background graphics are like that of Resident Evil , looking kind of like paintings than actual graphics , but actually I find it better . All together , it's not quite an MGS2 in character models but better than FFX models . As for the backgrounds , I just love them ! Score : 5 / 5 Sound / Music / Voices : For the sound , the games got your good old slashes , whacks , shots , and screams . Nothing really special here but nothing at all bad . Music wise , I found it to be very nice . Each NPC ( Non Playable Characters ) have their own tune . The music in the CG movies are great , and I thought were worth noting . Now for the voices . Please note I'm not really a big complainer on voice-overs . Here , I thought most of the voices were actually pretty good . Ekei ( the bald monk ) was suited well , and Kintaro ( the ninja ) and Oyu ( the Western Sword Fighter ) were also done well enough for my tastes . The only guys that got me thinking This could be better are Jubei and Magoichi ( the Gun Expert . ) Magoichis voice was kinda fitting but didn't quite sound like he should've . As for Jubei , the same as Magoichi . I'm a fan of David Hayter as Solid Snake , but as Jubei he didn't quite fit . Score : 4 / 5 Controls and Overall : The controls are simple , although some will have to get used to them . You can't use the analog sticks to move , just to let you know . Killing and sucking up souls is still easy , so no problems are evident . As for the game overall , I think it's worth a buy , or at least a rent . The branching story lines are what makes this game great . Later .
    • 034 4  Wow . This game is superb . Its a visual masterpiece , with all the samurai slashing you can think of . A great story line , compliments the awsome gameplay . Unfortunately , there are some flaws . But these flaws are not bad enough to hinder your experience with the game . Camera angles suffer when you take the fight from room to room . It often gets caugh inbetween rooms , which either lets you see your character and not the enemy , or lets you watch the enemy slash your character to pieces . Its not as bad as it seems . This game will be a lot more enjoyable for those who have not played Onimusha : Warlords , since most of the areas are the same . Other than that , this game is a must buy , and must be on a shelf of any action / adventure gamer .
    • 035 4  My only true complaint is the non-use of the joystick . Limiting us players to only using the D-button hurt the overall gameplay . Besides that I enjoyed playing this game . Looking forward to part 3 ! Hopefully they fix that one problem .
    • 036 4  If you liked the first Onimusha game , then you will most certainly like Onimusha 2 . The controls and gameplay are identical to the first so veterans should have no problems navigating around . The only negative about the controls is you still can't use the analog stick to move around . The graphics are noiceably better than the first game . The story is brand new and the heroes have no ties to the original at all . I was hoping for a cameo from heroes from the first game but it didn't come to pass. There are some ties to the original game in documents found on your quest , and the castle from the first game is also revisited frequently . The story does go on a few weird tangents but it makes for an interesting second chapter . There are all new enemies which are much more challenging to defeat , new weapons and armor to master , and a trading system that allows you to trade items with allies in order to convince them to help you on your quest . This leads to a few different paths in the game so you will have to play the game more than once to see all the endings and to unlock all the secrets . All in all it was a great game . I gave it four stars because the graphics were better than the first and because it was a challenging game to play for a change . I didn't give Onimusha 2 five stars because it's still the same as Onimusha 1 gameplaywise . If you never heard of the game gefore get Onimusha 1 first and play it before getting Onimusha 2 . If you don't like hack and slash or didn't like the first Onimusha then this game isn't for you .
    • 037 4  If you are a fan of the first Onimusha you will no doubt like the sequel . However , instead of improving on the game it just seems like an extension to the first Onimusha . You have a few new weapons but you will find them quite hard to use unless you are fighting an extremely slow foe . The puzzles are much more difficult this time around and some toward the end will have you stuck for hours . Overall , I would recommend playing this game if you loved the first Onimusha .
    • 038 4  Let me start of by saying that this game is too short . I beat it in a day and a half of having it , and I'm not one to sit on couch and play until my eyes glow . Luckily the store I bought it from allows full returns within 48 hours . Besides that , this game rocks ! The graphics are much improved from the first and the play is just as easy as number one . I would recommend this game to all who loved the first , just know that the game does not have a long life of play .
    • 039 4  This game has got great grafix and amazing cut seans ( although there are only about four cut seans with the super computer grafix ) they are worth working to see . Tjis game has what looks like real photo backgrounds , although some cannot be for they have like zombie bones and stuff like in caves . If you view the people from a good distance , they actually look REAL ! This game has some of the bast grafix i have seen in a game . But , gigimfats , a boss you must kill an annoying three times through the game has some werd grafix . He acts like he has that moving desease . But . . . the down side is that the talking is werd . When it shows a close up of a characters face as they talk , there mouth moves werd . By the way , Jubei , the main character , says the other characxters name to much . For example : when Katoro , another character , is talking , Jubei says , Kotaro . then when kotoro is almost done jubei says Katoro ! and nodes his head . Then kotaro finished and runs off . Jubei finally says : Katoro , and he watches him run off . Thats how annoying it is . Well overall the game is great . I would give it a four and a half , but thats not an option , : ) Oh ya , and just to tell ya , the water grafix are REAL clips of rivers of beaches . Trust me , its real . They added a splash affect on the water to make it look like they made it , but it has no effect on the water , not even little drop waves . So that proves it . In conclusion , this game rocks . it is defenitly worth buying . C ya !
    • 041 4  This game is great but it isn't as good as the first Onimusha in my opinion . First of all ther is no block button like in the first one . You are expected to deflect your enemy's attack with your sword by hitting them as they attack . second there are way too many lame short useless cutscenes . third Onimusha mode is useless becuase it lasts about three seconds , and there is no way to lengthen it . The story is kind of lame too . the voice acting is pretty bad in some places and the fact that there are cutscenes every five minutes is irritating . If you liked the first one this one will be worth owning . but part one is still way better even though it is missing some things this game has .
    • 043 4  this game is really cool and its gonna be my best game go hurry and buy it before their gone is really gooooooooooooood & coooooooooooool
    • 044 4  This game is a good game , much better than the first game . While the game started out promising thinking to yourself this is only the first part I cant wait til later on in the game . Unfortunatley the later part feels like a rehash of the first game with the same old Capcom Survival Horror elements . SUre the new companions , weapons , Lenght , Replay Value , and graphics are a added plus but the overall feel makes Onimusha 2 so stale that you really consider this game all that great . I can recomend this game for people who are hardcore survival horror fans . ( especially people who likes the first Onimusha )
    • 045 4  Onimusha Warlords was one of the best games I had played last year , I own , and I love it , now that Onimusha 2 is out , I can't wait for the next one . The gameplay is so solid it could crush a rock , the fighting and the absorbing souls just keeps me so occupied I find myself just going back and killing the enemies again so I can do it all over again . It has a lot of RPG elements , the more enemies you kill , the more souls you'll obtain , you use these souls to increase your weapons powers and even your armor . Although I will say , the voice acting could have been much better , I find myself in the middle of a bad translation of a Bruce Lee movie , but other than that , I can ignore it . It has a very deep story line and picks up right from where the last left off , only ten years later , you plays as Jubei , a new warrior , out to kill Nabunaga a demon lord who destroyed his home , now Jubei seeks revenge . Controls are just like a Resident Evil title , so get used to it . The graphics are nothing short of breath-taking , but the backgrounds are pre-rendured , but it doesn't show , Capcom really tried on this one , and they deserve all the credit for this masterpiece . Good game , fun and you'll want to go through it again , but I'll admit it's a bit short 8 - 9 hours , but you'll want to go through it again to see other characters and to play as them . I suggest you rent before you buy , but still , I bought it and i'm very pleased , you might want to think and do the same .
    • 047 4  This game is a really good one . I have 11 games and this is the best one . It is short but it is worth the cost , I beat it 4 day after I got it . Like I said before , it is really worth the cost . I recommend it to any one that likes RPG games ( role playing games )
    • 049 4  Onimusha 2 is capcom's attempt to capitalize on Onimusha 1 . There is very little differences b / w one and two . In fact the game is easier than before and could be completed in one day . I would strongly discourage buying this game due to following . . . - Half the game locations in 2 is reused from one . - Very few level bosses ( fight same bosses 3 times ) - Game is too easy . . . if you've played the original Onimusha one . - Very few CG cut scenes . - Not many new monsters . Some monsters are reused from Onimusha one , and many others are slightly modified from the original . - No graphic improvements . - Nothing Innovative . Exchanging gifts with other characters is waste of time . The game is still fun to play but for those anxiously waiting for the sequal would be very dissapointed . Onimusha 2 is a half - . . . attempt to rush out a sequal inorder to make money . Rent it instead .
    • 052 4  The first Onimusha was a lot of fun but this one is sort of a bust . Half of the playtime is spent retracing the steps of the first game and killing the same monsters . The fighting is just as fun and satisfying , but for some reason , the collection of souls ( which if you don't know , levels-up your character ) is very tedious - - battling these same enemies and recycled bosses quickly becomes boring . There is an attempt to make the game more dynamic by including the exchange of gifts . These are items you buy or find and give to other characters for rewards . These rewards can be more gifts to give away , or health items and weaponry , but in the end , this process seems like a drawn-out way of getting the much needed health-boosts and extra items that are in very short supply throughout the game . You also get a lot of junk . At the very least , this is a nice distraction if you're sitting at home and wanting to veg out , but I suggest that you rent or buy it instead of paying full-price .
    • 055 4  This review is from : Onimusha 2 : Samurai's Destiny ( Video Game ) i loved onimusha . i hated onimusha 2 . an utter waste of time and money , and i bought it for only 9.99 . when i got to the final boss battle , i couldn't help but think ' this is it ? ' then i tried beating nobunaga a half dozen times or so , but couldnt since i used all my healing items and magic replenishers going into the purple phantom realm . if i had known that the final boss was right after i would have skipped it and whipped him good . so i finished the purple phantom realm and was hurt irreparably and only got some dinky sword . what a tur % . since i completed the whole game on normal i wasn't about to drop to easy mode just to beat the last boss . so i tossed the cd-rom in the garbage , something i had thought about doing quite a few times before as the game never started , and never really got going . a game without a soul . but there were a couple of pretty places with some nice graphics , that is the only positive . avoid

    • 057 4  This game weapons are sword , bow , arrow , fire arrow , improved gun , improved bullets , blazing fire sword , Dancing thunder knife , ice blade spear , rotating wind maru , and soil barren hammer .

  • 046 4  I wrote a review for this game when i first starting playing it , only after I played it halfway through . I retracted my earlier statements because I realized how wrong I really was . The BIGGEST flaw in this game is simply some of the Plot . Its a simple undriven seek revenge and save the world type story . I also have to say it starts off quite strong , but from then on it dives at a MADDENING pace . By the time you finish it , you'll be thinking you were a fool to buy it . The Multi-character system is one of the few real ups of this game . Every so often your in jam , or fighting a boss , or simply trading with one of these guys ( or gals ) , and you find yourself saying , . . . you people are awesome . They aren't weak , and they are smart . . . They work with you , not against you like some games do , and every so often you get to be one of them . They aren't lame in any sense of the word either , theya are well rounded bad . . . guys that all have their own backgrounds and subplots . The Controls ARE NOT THAT BAD . I find them actually quite smooth . Every so often you'll do something you didnt want to do , but every once in a while you'll finding yourself do something you did want to do but not in the way you wanted to do it . They are excellent at times , and provide everything you'll ever need . The Graphics in game are just beautifully . Character designs and facial features are some of the best in games I've ever seen . They depict real people at times , and often times you find yourself thinking wow that guy looks awesome . The game does tend to regurgitate some previous environments from the first game , but they aren't that bad . You get a sense of nostalgia about it . The games enemies seem to lack sometimes though . Sometimes they are ultra cool looking , and some times they just are simple lizards that are just plain annoying after a while . Some of the larger enemies are devastating and ruthless , and its fun to devise a method of approaching them . The Bosses are also lacking . This game heavily rips off Devil May Cry at times , with virtual equivalents of many characters . The reappearance of annoying bosses that are either lame , weak , cheap or just plain annoying is so repetetive at times . The game's gots some cool points , but none of them are where they should be . Its an ok game for the fans of the genre , and if your looking for a Devil May Cry fix you might just get it . But if your looking for deep insight into an ancient world of demons and swordsmen , you won't find it here , instead you'll find a sad game that with some more patience , could have been so promising .
    • 010 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Onimusha 2 : Samurai's Destiny ( Video Game ) If u are a gamer this is definetly a good series for your collection ( ONIMUSHA SERIES ) i can't help but wonder why Capcom refuses to listen to logic the directioinal buttons suck as a main control please ! ! ! Capcom make the anolog joystick an option , ok ! ! ! now back to the game , well the graphics was very pleasant to watch oh i really loved some of the cutscence , this version however fail to capture me as part1 did but all the same it was great . The characters really did not satistfy intelectual vanities / curiousity , at times the evironment looked familiar , well maybe it's just me , at times the characters lacked purpose , and at other times served a purpose well maybe . all in all this a good way to past some time hacking and gashing demons , blood , guts and simple puzzles ( what puzzles ? ? ? ? ) a little to short for me but i give a 4 star ( obviously duuuuuuuuuuh ) laters folks and gamers . . . . . . . . . .

    • 013 4  To start off , let it be known that I've never played the first Onimusha . That said , I'm actually shocked at how much fun I'm having . I never tire of fighting and I can deal with the puzzles . Sometimes the puzzles are too easy { but hey , at least they don't do it dirty and make it so its impossible without a strategy guide } You can level up your weapons and armor , which aside from greater power will also alter their appearance . YES ! { Perhaps that was possible on the first , I wouldn't know } Also , when you buy a friend weapons or armor you actually get to see them using or wearing it later in the game . I must however point out the flaws now . The camera angles { I'm sure you already knew that } As well as the control . Personally I'm not a fan of the { Resident Evil } type controls . I'd much rather it control like { Devil May Cry } . All in all I can't seem to put it down . I am progressing through it quite quickly though . Considering I don't usually play survival horrors , those who do will beat it very fast . Though the replay value is pretty high , do to the character interaction .
    • 019 4  I just got Onimusha 2 yesterday , and I must say , it is my favorite game ever ( tied with Devil May Cry ) . It is much like the original Onimusha , but there are several changes . 1 . The graphics are AMAZING . They are extremely well done . The scenery and the character are very detailed making the game seem almost photorealistic . I think it's safe to say that these are the best graphics to be found on the PS2 . 2 . This game takes after Devil May Cry sort of . This time around , Onimusha 2 has purple souls in addition to blue , yellow and red . The purple souls act much like Devil Trigger counters . Once you collect 5 purple souls , you automatically turn into Onimusha for a short period of time . As Onimusha , you change appearance , glow purple , are invincible , and benefit from faster and stronger attacks . Unfortunately , Onimusha mode lasts for a very limited time , so you dont want to pick up that 5th purple soul unless you are around a lot of guys , because otherwise it is a waste . Purple souls aren't too common either . 3 . Cutscenes . I have to say that there are more cutscenes than in the original . Although there aren't as many as , say , Metal Gear Solid 2 , there are a fair amount . 4 . You can play as some of the other characters for short periods of time , and you benefit from their specialty attacks while you play as them . Of course , they will also follow you around at times when you play as Jubei ( main character ) . 5 . Fights are much more awesome looking than in the original Onimusha , with better attacks and special attacks . So there's a little bit about the game . I'll end with a list of Pros and Cons . Pros : Amazing graphics Awesome Onimusha mode More weapons that you can level-up than in the original Cons : Onimusha mode very short I have not beat the game , but there are a lot of tedious cut scenes Tedious trading
    • 031 4  This is great game of action and puzzles . It has multiple characters . This takes up the story 10 years after the 1st . Has gore and some unsettling scenes , but is definately a buy for experienced gamers . Begining cut scene dazzling as well as the variety of gameplay . GREAT CINEMATICS ! 5 characters to control . Many puzzles to solve , as well as plenty of evil minions to take care of . A great buy
    • 040 4  THE GOOD : great visual effects of lighting and water . character design is just unbelivable . . . . i have never seen such well designed characters they seem so life like and real i just want to go up to oyu and kiss her * wait bad thoughts bad thoughts * . Allot of challenge hard mode will give you a run for your money and if thats not enough critical mode will surely push you to your limits , good luck my fellow samurai not that you just might need it . the new issen flash move not only looks really cool but makes those annoying repeditive random monster battles go allot faster . The trading game is just pure fun not only can it help make the game easier but its just fun to mess with people by giving them odd items like love poitions parrots maybe even a drug ( i'm talkin about the pipe but everyone but magoichi gets offended if you give it to them ) . lastly the CG is once again stunning . After beating hard mode you'll get ultimate mode and thats really fun ( infinate bullets / fire arrows , start off with rekka-ken with infinate special oh yeah dats fun ) THE BAD : the control could definetly use some improvement . i think they should have added in some more button combo moves . THERE SHOULD BE MORE OF OYU . . . . . or atleat make the game longer . . . . SUMMARY : well i think this far surpasses onimusha 1 but samanosuke will always be sam da man in my eyes

  • after playing the first Onimusha , I didn't think that the graphics could get any better for any game . Then II came out . The story line is quite impressive , even more so than the first game , which is ironic since II was written before I . The ' extra features ' for this game are an added plus as well . This is the first time I've ever seen a ' making of ' for a video game , and it's also pretty cool . There's alternate games for Onimusha II , much like it's predecessor , but on a far bigger scale . Overall , if you like an action / adventure game with a lot of role-playing and some very cool weapons with an addictive story , check this game out . I am very much looking forward to Onimusha III . Between 1 10 , I give it an ELEVEN !
    • 017 4  To date , the best game I've discovered so far . I'm not going to analyze this game to the point of no return . • 048 4  This is a very mixed review . This game is the most beautifully appealing game on the PS2 so far . The characters , effects and backgrounds are great ! The story is good . These characters have personalities and histories . HOWEVER , the biggest detractor from the game is its poor control and camera . This is THE WORST game control I've seen for this level of a game . The D-Pad is clumsy and distracting . . . I grew tired of watching an awesome samurai bump into walls etc . The camera angles make it even worse . If the controls were better or customizable , this game would get 5 stars ! In order to get through this game , you'll need the patience of a Zen master .
    • 054 4  if you like bloody games then you will like this game and cool characters it will take your mind and you have cool names
