Perhaps it is the poor ergonomics . maybe the familiar comfort of the mote and nunchuk combo , I am not sure . Maybe it is just the game and with another racing game it would be great . Regardless , be warry of it . Do not buy this extra wii wheel just because you got the game and both people want to play . Try out the wheel that comes with the game and see if you like it . If you do try the mote and nunchuk combo and see which you like best . Your mileage may vary .

079 4 This is the best wheel out there . I bought another one and the quality is just not the same . This wheel has a cut out so that you can still use the remote in the wheel to select menu function outside the wheel game . It has a good , heavy duty feel to it .

The game , Mario Kart Wii , comes with one wheel . You have the option of using motion control ( with or without wheel ) , numchuck + wii remote , or wii gamecube controller . The best piece of advice I can give someone is to try the motion controls on mario kart with the wheel provided with the game before you consider buying a second one . You will either love or hate the motion controls on this game so you should figure out what control configuration works best for you and those that live with you before making the decision to buy a second wheel . For instance , this game is played primarily by my girlfriend and myself . She prefers joystick control over motion control , so personally it would not make sense to spend the money for a second wheel .
If your game didn't come with a wheel for whatever reason ( used game purchase , etc . ) read the rest of my review below . . . .
My review of the wheel itself .
Build - seems to be pretty high quality , very sturdy and wii remote fits in the wheel pretty well . Higher quality build then the wii zapper . It is also a lot more comfortable to hold the wheel then using motion control without a wheel . ( you can't use the wheel without motion control so again make sure you like the motion control first )
Controls - The wheel is designed so that you have have very easy access to any of the buttons on the controller . It will work well for other wii motion racing games such as excite trucks . The only thing that sometimes bothers me is that the B button in the back is pretty big , so sometimes you may accidentally hit the B button when setting the wheel down on a table . However , having the large B button on the wheel works well as far as game play goes .
In the end , this product is a must buy if there is more then 1 person in your house that enjoys mario kart motion controls , or you would like to have a wheel for one of your other wii racing games .

I bought 2 steering wheels for my son's game Mario Cart Wii . He said it was too hard to use . He started using the controller in his left hand ( to control speed ) and the nunchuk in his right for the motion etc . . . I'm like that's crazy . . how hard can a steering wheel be ?

I use the wheel for ALL wii tilt ability driving games .
It's still takes up at least 50% less room then the wheel to desk simulator accessory for other systems .
It's designed well , makes taking the remote in / out easily , the B button is done simply & well & even has the IR window to point to menu choices in between each race so you don't have to remove it .
I've used it for Cruis'n , Hot Wheels , Need for Speed games & it always helps me drive . With just the wii mote , I tend to over-steer easily , especially on corners . I've used it for Cruis'n , Hot Wheels , Need for Speed games & it always helps me drive . With just the wii mote , I tend to over-steer easily , especially on corners . The best piece of advice I can give someone is to try the motion controls on mario kart with the wheel provided with the game before you consider buying a second one . You will either love or hate the motion controls on this game so you should figure out what control configuration works best for you and those that live with you before making the decision to buy a second wheel . For instance , this game is played primarily by my girlfriend and myself . She prefers joystick control over motion control , so personally it would not make sense to spend the money for a second wheel .

Build - seems to be pretty high quality , very sturdy and wii remote fits in the wheel pretty well . Higher quality build then the wii zapper . It is also a lot more comfortable to hold the wheel then using motion control without a wheel . ( you can't use the wheel without motion control so again make sure you like the motion control first )
Controls - The wheel is designed so that you have have very easy access to any of the buttons on the controller . It will work well for other wii motion racing games such as excite trucks . The only thing that sometimes bothers me is that the B button in the back is pretty big , so sometimes you may accidentally hit the B button when setting the wheel down on a table . However , having the large B button on the wheel works well as far as game play goes .
In the end , this product is a must buy if there is more then 1 person in your house that enjoys mario kart motion controls , or you would like to have a wheel for one of your other wii racing games .

The other wheel we purchased was just a hollow plastic shell . It gave you something to hold onto , but there was no balance or feel to it . Another problem was that it covered up the IR window on the end of the Wii-mote so that you had to take it out of the wheel to use the menu . This wouldn't have been so bad except that it held the Wii-mote so tight I sometimes worried about the Wii-mote getting stuck or damaged when we popped it in and out .
The Wii wheels have some weight and balance to them . They feel comfortable . The Wii-mote slides in and out easily and there is a window on the end so you can use the pointer on the Wii-mote . I also like the buttons . And of course they look good .
But the best thing is that there is no fighting over the Wii Wheel !
( The only bad thing about them is that they cost less than what I paid for the stupid Wii Racing Wheel . Oh , well . )

I was a bit skeptical about the Wii Wheel at first and thought that it was just a pretty piece of plastic to hold the Remote . But when I used the Wheel that came with the game I was surprised by how much it added to the experience . Turning the Remote on its side and using it as a steering wheel without the Wheel is awkward and can be difficult to handle for less experienced gamers . When I play Mariokart with my bf , who just began playing video games , I let him use the Wheel , but I'm always a bit sad to go without and will be buying a second one soon .

The Official Nintendo Wii Wheel works exactly as you would expect it to , has a solid overall build quality and is a comfortable size for kids and adults alike . It's not flashy or especially inspiring - - it's the workaday device that does what it sets out to do , and does it well . For driving games like Mario Kart , the overall playability of the game is superior with the Wheel , no doubt about it .
One critique - - and the reason this isn't a five star rating . . . . The engineers at Nintendo did us all a huge favor by recognizing they needed to accommodate the Wii controller's safety strap - - there is a pass through hole made especially for this purpose through the back of the Wheel . BUT , the loose end of the strap is too short to wear at that length , and really too long to tuck in neatly or clip on securely anywhere . So it just flops around while you play , which can be a little distracting . I suppose you could remove the strap from the controller every time , but that would be a huge pain .

At first I thought it was a waste of money , but after trying to play the game without it ( just holding the controller sideways ) , I quickly realized that it's worth the money for the ease of use it brings . My family has enjoyed the Wii racing games . The Nintendo wheel makes them seem very realistic . I consider them an essential part of the game system . If you have a Wii and don't have a racing game , get one as soon as you can and be sure to get the wheel .

The new way to drive Mario cart is great even though the game could use a little tweaking . The small size of the wheel makes it easy to hold up and steer smoothly without over correction . Takes a little getting used to but better than connected units .

If you're used to driving a real gas burning vehicle , this will increase you enjoyment of WII driving games ten fold . If you've already mastered driving sims using the classic Nintendo controllers , you'll probably do fine without it .
I've only given 4 out of 5 starts for the overall rating because it's just a piece of plastic , molded like steering wheel . You could probably make something similar for less $ with an old frisbee or pie plate .

While it is not an absolutely essential accessory for playing the game it will improve the gaming environment for all present . : ) The Wii Wheel is not that expensive and it will eliminate the fuss over which child gets to play with a real steering wheel . I find I cannot get used to steering with a rectangular block held in my hands , it's just not natural !

I previously mastered Mario Kart : Double Dash for Gamecube and felt though Mario Kart : Wii would be just easy and fun . It's not easy . Drifting is more essential and the Wii wheel takes getting used to . It was really frustrating , but now I really enjoy the game . I especially enjoy the incorporation of ' classic ' mario kart race tracks .

Just got a used Nintendo brand Wii Wheel for 7.99 at Game stop . It is just a piece of plastic so there really is no need to worry about it not working . It's selling for 14.99 at Target and 9.99 + shipping on Amazon . So if you want to save a few bucks and aren't planning on buying something else on Amazon to get the free shipping , call a local game stop or EB games and see if they have it used ! As for the wheel itself , all I will say is that you should definitely use it since it's what makes the game more unique from other versions of Kart . As a gamer , I am more comfortable with the nunchuck , but I like the wheel because it is a more authentic Wii experience .

The wheels are great , but you do need to get used to using them . They don't require a lot of turning to make the car turn , but once you get used to them they are a lot of fun .

I had purchased generic wheels for the Wii games however they are not as good as the Wii wheel . Some of the generic wheels do not have an opening on the side of the wheel to allow the signal from the will controller to Wii base unit . The Wii wheel from Nintendo is well made , feels good , and works well with the new Mario Kart game .

What a great addition for Mario Kart . The wheel is made of a very durable plastic ( ours have already been thrown around ) and adds another element to the game that you can't get from just holding the Wiimote . I could not go back to a Gcube controller now .

Yes , it is just a piece of plastic that your Wiimote fits in to , but it well worth having . My kids use it every time they play a driving game , and that can't be said for the golf club , bat , or tennis racket accessory . Even though in your head you know it isn't doing anything , it just makes the game more fun , and at the heart of it , that's what Nintendo games are all about .

Being an avid gamer and part time store manager at a local game retailer , I'm usually in the know about all things game related and this wheel is no exception . I actually bought four of them so the whole family and friends could enjoy the experience . It's by no means a necessity but it does enhance the experience . The wii remote easily fits inside and does what it's supposed to do . It just works . Do yourself a favor and pick one up !

Lol . You don't really need the wheel . It doesn't give you any kind of edge to have it . But , it really adds to the experience . About the right size for an adult or a kid to use . It's lightweight and durable . I don't think it would break without serious effort . I was surprised it didn't make my hands sweaty after a few hours of play . Maybe because Mario Kart is a little more relaxing of a game ? Either way , it's cheap and it adds to the experience . It's a great way to get non-gamers to play along with you . A must for the party !
