Ninja Gaiden Sigma

  • 033 4  A game that's frustrating , rewarding , visually stunning , and long running . This is a game that could have been shortened and it seems games are coming out already short enough . It felt like there were so many bosses and levels that after surviving some of these spectacular fight scenes you were left feeling that you've just finished a 10 round fight . But a second later , the ring announcer enters the ring and says lets go , two more rounds , and this goes on and on until you feel you've got so much into the game there's no turning back until you're the last fighter standing . If you liked DMC3 because it was a punk game , then NGS will be the punk that makes your day .
    • 132 4  This game is off the chain . This is the first game you should get when you purchase your PS3 . If you liked devil may cry you will love ninja gaiden . The fighting is fun and the story is good as well . Its very hard also .
    • 148 4  There are a lot of games with similar price that will not even come close t this one . If you want to make the most out of your money in PS3 this is a must . Anyone who has ever played Ninja Gaiden knows the rest of the story , it's simply an amazing game .
    • 173 4  This is a good game . It's the slasher style game , like onimusha or devil may cry . You just have to keep hitting the buttons and blocking at the right time . Not to challenging but enough to keep you playing . The graphics are great and game play and controls are very smooth . There is plenty of adventure in this game but the fighting and many different weapons are all kind of the same . If you like onimusha you'r love this game .
    • 205 4  You have to be a true gamer to appreciate this game . If you like kick-butt graphics , a smart storyline , killer moves and enjoy solving puzzles , you will simply love this game . You will have to invest some time , but it is worth every minute . $29.99 is giving this game away , it's worth so much more .

  • 050 4  Playing the game was an overall great fun . I particularly enjoyed the high speed fights with plenty of combos to master , and I was a bit surprised to the meticulous work done on the storyline , considering this is a Ninja game . The game becomes incredibly hard as you acquaint bosses , so if you don't want to throw your controller on your screen , I strongly suggest for some tactics hints found on the official game guide .

    • 054 4  when we played Ninja gaiden the first time on a NES we couldnt imagine it could get this good.the PS3 gives this Xbox exclusive a nes look , shiner colors , environments , Sharper AI enemies Etc . teh game is tremendously packed with action , and is a very long game , lots of different bosses . Stages , and fpr old school fans you can unlock the original Ninja Gaidens . . . GO RYU FIND IRENEEEEE
      • 248 4  THIS GAME IS GREAT , GOOD GRAPHICS , GOOD PLAYABILITY AND GREAT SOUNDTRACK , BUT SOMETIMES FRUSTATING BECAUSE OF THE DIFICULTY .

    • 065 4  highly recommended for any action game fans out there . . . . . and especially for those who have ever fantasized about ninjas or swords ! Incredible sword wielding moves , acrobatics , fast paced action , amazing graphics . . . . what else do you need ! Perhaps just as importantly , the game plays and feels right . The creators did a great job of engineering this game . The camera views are great as well , with the ability to adjust many settings and constantly adjust back to your forward view .
      • 177 4  Over all , this game is pretty awesome . Im deployed to Iraq right now and i've played some pretty good games , but this one is a for sure top 5 on my list . The graphics are sweet and just the gameplay over all is awesome . And the price really isnt bad . . . . recommend to all .

    • 078 4  Entertaining game , but very tough even on normal / default difficulty . Supports 1080P , but looks gorgeous even on 720P using Component Cable with a 2 year old Dell 24 WS LCD that is not HDCP compliant . Audio is also very good . Gameplay is majority hack n ' slash with very minor RPG'ish elements like most modern games , but still very enjoyable . Fetch a needed item and gain access to new areas , collect money to buy a handful of useful items , level up weapons , and gaining additional HP and ninja magic / MP is well incorporated into the game . Rachel looks gorgeous , a little too jiggly exxxaggerated . Rachel's level are short , but also well incorporated into the game . I didn't care much for it , but still didn't mind it either . While Ryu controls well and is very responsive , Rachel is much slower and her attacks are easily dodgeable by quick foes . She seems to take more damage also compared to Ryu , but her life bar is based on Ryu's . If Ryu has used HP items that add more life bar then Rachel benefits from this as well . Her roped grapple sub-weapon is useless compared to Ryu's selection . Ryu also looks awesome along with the game's environment . I never played the orginal XBox versions , but being a owner of several other consoles and handheld I was not deprived of similar games . To me this game is not the best hack n ' slash adventure game ever , but a darn good and entertaining one still though . The game did not look as smooth as I was hoping for , especially for a game that is a few years old and started life on a weaker console . Anti-Aliasing seems to be only 2x , and their is noticeable lag randomingly even when not a lot is happening on screen . I'm not sure about the 60 FPS standard promised by Team Ninja or Tecmo , but the game does not always run at that frame rate . Game camera is also not very good at auto lock as the play moves around so much . Camera can be the cause of death a lot of times . Several bugs , but on rare occasions only . Load times can be terrible between gameplay and cutscenes ( CS ) . On a few occasion the screen turns white and takes over 10 seconds to load a low resolution pixelated CG or in game graphic CS . The game locks up randomly and I never know when it locks up due to differing load times . I wait for a couple minutes and if nothing loads I reset the game , but again a rare occasion . On my PS3 this only happens with NG3S , which should have been more polished prior to release . Not a great XBox port to the PS3 . $60 + tax for a decent port that didn't include all the original content from the previous XBox versions on a Blu-Ray disc and all new content is weak on the dollar value scale . I was disappointed when I read about the unlockable contents from the original XBox versions like the original NES playable series and a movie mode ( CG & cutscenes viewable probably ) . I also thought I would be able to start with the equipments I had once I completed a difficulty like Devil May Cry series , but not the case here . Start a fresh game on a different difficulty setting with nothing , but experience from the previous play through . Fighting techniques and moves are unlockable so your favorite slash attack is locked again once you restart another adventure . Rachel's wigs are locked away again , which the hard work to unlock in the first place was not worth it . Her adventure is short and unlocking accessories and hairstyle / wig is not really necessary nor worth it a second time around . I'm currently playing through Hard mode and I actually struggle less compared to my first time through on Normal mode , but still a tough game . I would consider this a rental if you are a decent casual gamer and just want to complete this game . The length time for this game is moderate , but once through the replay is very low on the value scale . I mean unlocking new customes doesn't make the game any more different or enjoyable and not having the ability to swap between customes at will once a new game is started is even lamer . Even PSOne games like Resident Evil allows custome swapping during game . With very little to no interaction with NPCs and going from fight scene to the next becomes repetitive like most games in this genre . Overall , buy this game if you enjoy challenges and hack n ' slash'em adventures . Otherwise , rent it and be entertained a one time through .
      • 003 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I loved the first three Ninja Gaidens on Nintendo Entertainment System . They were challenging , frustrating , but the games were fantastic . It is not surprising then that Tecmo managed to transform their 2D franchise to 3D in an exceptional manner . This game is a remake of Ninja Gaiden Black from Xbox ( thus Sigma , meaning the sum ) . I never played the Xbox version , but after playing this game for the first few hours , I wondered why I waited so long . The game looks fantastic , running 1080p at 60 FPS ( all the graphics have been overhauled ) . The control feels really tight , and making nimble moves feels natural . The learning curve may be steep for some , but the result is quite worth it . I was not a proficient ninja for the first few chapters of the game , but now that I have somewhat mastered Ryu's moves , I am able to quickly dispatch a group of enemies with grace and ease , with their heads rolling , literally . The game contains additional playable character Rachel , as well as additional weapons over the Xbox version ; dual sword wielding is awesome . You can unlock additional costumes , hair styles , and difficulties . If you feel competitive , the game allows you to upload your scores to Playstation Network to compare with players around the world . You can see how many times they died , the time it took them to complete the game , and how many ninpos ( special moves ) were used . If you love action , adventure , and challenge , this game is for you .

      • 005 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden Sigma was a baptism of fire , to say the least . It throws you into a flurry of shurikens and blades the instant you begin to play , and the difficulty level does not waver throughout the game at all . For someone like me who crunches through games like a fiend , I was hoping that Ninja Gaiden Sigma would put up a fight . This game was fun , but tough . You will definitely get the snot kicked out of you many times but that makes the victory that much more rewarding . This game is not for causal gamers or people who get frustrated easily . You will repeat a lot of fights either because of respawns or deaths . My number one qualm about this game is the camera . It is one of the worst cameras I have ever had the displeasure of maneuvering in a game . Camera failures will disable your ability to focus on the proper targets , see around corners , and be sneaky . . . like a ninja is supposed to be . Camera adjustments are possible , but the controls are unresponsive as the game tries to focus on things for you and fails miserably . Your opponents are supposed to cause your death , not a camera . This is the type of game where every last drop of health counts , and when your camera doesn't enable you to target any of the four enemies that are pumping you full of lead , your death will come quickly . I expected more out of Tecmo for this port . The crappy camera is what made the fun factor 4 / 5 rather than a perfect 5 . The game's challenge actually adds to the fun . It takes effort to win . But again , this fundamental flaw puts a damper on what the game could and should have been .

      • 007 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Introduction : Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a revamped and overhauled version of Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black with additional content . Its one of the pinnacles of the action genre totally rehauled for next generation presentation . Gameplay : 9 / 10 The gameplay in Ninja Gaiden Sigma is dead on . Either you fight with skill and intelligence or die frantically swinging your weapon around . At the end of the day the gameplay comes down to pure action which includes slicing , dicing , and decapitating enemies . The controls are spot on and every bit as accurate as they should be in an AAA title . From combos , fighting to running , jumping and wall running the controls are quick , responsive and perfect . While some have their complaints with the use of the SIXAXIS controls , I found that shaking the controller while using Ninpo to be a very effective and a good use of the new controller . One of the only downfalls with Ninja Gaiden was it's camera . This is still somewhat of a problem but one that's easily overlooked because it rarely hinders the experience or gameplay . You can manually move the camera with R3 or center it with R1 . In addition to the great combat Sigma also offers a nice touch with the great boss battles and good puzzles . After beating Sigma you also unlock Mission Modes which are a blast to rip through ; assuming you have the skill to . The addition of Rachael as a playable character is a bonus in Sigma . While her style is much different than Ryu's , the insight into the story and the change of gameplay is a nice touch . Graphics : 9 / 10 The graphics in Ninja Gaiden are astonishing . While I could act like I know what I'm talking about while referring to the self shadowing , 60 FPS , 1080p , and other technical jibberish there's really no need to . This game speaks volumes for itself . Team Ninja did a great job in upgrading the graphics to 1080p and often even adding content and colors that weren't present in the original releases of Ninja Gaiden . The only complaint I have about the graphics are that the cut scenes aren't quite up to par with the rest of the game . Despite that the cutscenes are still decent . Story & Sound : 9 / 10 The story is what you'd expect from an action game . While it isn't anything spectacular it's certainly decent enough to make you want to continue playing . I always say sound is an overrated score in gaming reviews . Either it's great , good , or it sucks . With that said the sound effects , music , and surround sound are all very good-great . While there's a lack of tracks for the game , the simple music that is played is appropriate for the game . Closing : Ninja Gaiden Sigma is easily one of the best action games ever made . It's gameplay is addictive to any fan of the genre . The boss battles are grand , level design and layout are both very well executed , and the story is reasonably good . Based simply on the fact it's a true classic , Ninja Gaiden Sigma gets a 10 from me . I will admit that in all honesty if I didn't rate it a 10 [ 5 Stars ] simply because it's a classic in my book but Sigma is probably more like a 9 - 9.5 based on it's merits . Its a game worth owning for years to come , or at least testing the waters in to see if you enjoy it .

      • 009 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) To qualify whether you might like this game : Fans of Devil May Cry and the Onimusha series would be highly recommended to play this game . It is harder than both series , except DMC3 , on normal difficulty and in my opinion , overly cheap . That said , once the Ninja Dog difficulty has been unlocked , the game really opens up to a more nuanced button masher , much more like DMC1 , probably my favorite game of the genre . The intracacy of the combos are there but you aren't punished if that isn't your skill level . And don't take the easier difficulty to be a cake walk either , there still is a sense of accomplishment in defeating some of the bosses . Unlocking Ninja Dog mode is not as evident as it might seem . Simply agree to quit when it asks you if you want to give up the way of the ninja . ( This is different than just choosing not to continue ) . For a few hours I kept saying no but was really starting to get annoyed with this game , ( 20 minutes repeatedly playing the same level does that for me ) . Now I can harldly put the game down . Additionally , many reviewers have already noted that the cutscenes are not PS3 quality , not a huge flaw but noticable . Still , the in-engine graphics are awesome . Reminds me of seeing previews of PS2 games on the PS1 demo discs . Considering all the above , this is a great game , though not perfect . I would have rated it a 4.5 if possible and a must have for fans of the genre .

      • 011 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) When talking of Ninja Gaiden Sigma , there are those who wish to talk about how the game differs from the original XBOX versions ( especially Ninja Gaiden Black ( 2005 ) ) , on the one hand , and those who wish to talk about Sigma as simply a great PS3 game . I would like to focus on the latter point . Sure , NGS is more polished graphically than its predecessor , and has a new playable character - the heavily bosomed Rachel - but it is fundamentally the same game to any but the most fanatical Ninja Gaiden fans . Of course , Tomonubo Itagaki , who was Producer of the XBOX Ninja Gaidens , would disagree with this point : he has publicly denigrated the PlayStation 3 version of the game , perhaps because it was left to his understudies to make whilst he worked on the XBOX 360 ' s Ninja Gaiden 2 . But let's put that down to ego and move on . Sigma is a beautiful game , but its real beauty lies in the complexity of the combat system . The game is quite simply a masterpiece of fast-paced control and combat design . It edges ahead of games such as the excellent Devil May Cry series because of its wonderful balance of defence and attack , magnificently fluid controls and ultra-demanding difficulty level . Its lasting brilliance is shown by how it is able to instil a feeling of pride in a gamer who succeeds in defeating a boss , or mastering a combo move : it is the gaming equivalent of learning a martial art . It is Ninjitsu for thumbs . Sigma , whilst not significantly better than the previous versions of the game , is wonderful despite - or perhaps because of - that . Most significantly , it gives PlayStation 3 owners the chance to play the greatest action adventure masterpiece of the last twenty years .

      • 013 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) GAMEPLAY : Ninja Gaiden Sigma , first and foremost , is a challenge . To most players , Normal difficulty will seem like Very Hard ( forget the fact that you can also unlock a Hard , Very Hard , and Master Ninja difficulty setting upon subsequent completions of the game ) . The additional difficulty levels do offer extra enemies , items and weapons , making it worthwhile to brave the storm . There's a bit of a learning curve with respect to controlling Ryu's movements and battle maneuvers , and the diverse catalog of enemies forces you to make full use of his vast array of techniques to survive . If you take the time to perfect your combos , the battle system can make you feel like a pro . If not , it can make you feel like a novice , even if you are a hardcore gamer . The additional character , Rachel offers a new ( if somewhat one-dimensional ) experience to the series , with her own unique weapon and move set . There is little special strategy required to defeat any of the bosses , and some of the bosses you will encounter multiple times over . There are no difficult puzzles to solve ; virtually everything can be accessed by killing that one monster with the key to progress . Ryu's weapons can be upgraded and improved by spending Yellow Essence gained from fallen enemies , offering a huge catalogue of special moves and techniques to choose from . STORY : The story is pretty typical of a wild-action hack-and-slash : the world is in peril , and only one man can save us all from certain destruction . If you're looking for a deep , engaging story with rich character development , you're barking up the wrong tree here . In fact , little about any of the characters is explained or revealed , save for one unsurprising twist about Ryu himself . EXTRAS : After completing the story mode once , you can unlock the ever-challenging Mission Mode , which offers dozens of ways for the badguys to flay you alive . You can also unlock extra costumes for Ryu , which are available in each playing mode . OVERALL : Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a lightning-fast , bloody blade-fest , especially suited to the electronically masochistic . If you enjoy challenging seemingly impossible hordes of quick and powerful monsters , this one's for you . If you are easily frustrated , save yourself the aneurism and look elsewhere .

      • 018 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This is one of the best games I have ever played . The graphics are absolutely beautiful and the frame rate is very fast . Even with plenty of enemies on the screen the speed of the game doesn't skip , glitch , or slow down at all ( like a lot of other games out there ) . The best thing about this game is the fighting system . The controls are so tight and precise it gives you a great feel . Decapitating enemies ' heads is a piece of cake and is awesome . After beating this game I bought Heavenly Sword and Conan . When I started playing those games I was instantly disappointed by their loose controls and boring hack / slash mashing of the buttons . They just felt so slow compared to the speed and accuracy of Ninja Gaiden . In Ninja Gaiden each enemy is unique in how you have to beat them and the moves you have to use to kill them , so it isn't just the typical walk up to an enemy mash some buttons and their dead . No sir , in this game you will be running up walls , flipping , dodging and performing all kinds of insane acrobatic ninja techniques to eliminate your foes . Compared to Ninja Gaiden I have yet to find a game that matches the amazing fighting system developed . The fighting is all super fast and it does take some getting used to . When I first started playing this I was a little overwhelmed but after a few missions you will get the hang of it and become ADDICTED . This game has great visuals , amazing controls , good difficulty , and good length . GET THIS GAME ! The upsetting thing is that the sequel to this game is only coming out for XBOX 360 , I might have to get one just for that game ! ! !

      • 020 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) A throwback to the difficulty of oldschool videogames . NGS tests your skills , the first couple chapters will suck you in with the graphics / gameplay but make you feel a little less like the walking death warrant you should be . Be patient and it will come though . Ryu's ( main character ) arsenal of moves has to be mastered for success . Every battle in this game can be life or death . And finally a new game that you actually have to use strategy to defeat the bosses . Instead of just rushing in and a quick hack and slash defeats them . A great game , I'm not giving it 5 stars cause I just don't think it's the best . But it's definetly a purchase and not a rent game . Only downfall . . I finished the game without using any Ninpo ( ninja magic ) . . seems a little useless , but that's just because Ryu is such a hoss with his weapons . So maybe its not such a bad thing . Buy this game , you'll be satisfied . All in all the graphics , sound , controls , gameplay are 5 of 5 . The ninpo ( magic ) and the way enemies respawn when you re-enter a room are the only negatives .

      • 022 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Much has been said about how difficult this game is . I am approximately half way through and can tell you that it is definitely hard , but not that hard . It isn't so much that this game is hard . . . it is that other games are so easy . Let's face it , console games are pretty much dumbed down so that your average 12 year old can play them . To make it easier , many games allow you to save at pretty much any time . This game makes you save at certain locations and it doesn't hold your hand and always point you in the right direction . In that respect , it is basically the same as most games were 15 - 20 years ago . So rather than the constant focus on the difficulty of this game , perhaps eveyone's attention should be focused on why most other games are dumbed down so far that your average jungle monkey could play them .

      • 024 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Too often , when games are associated with being difficult , the satisfaction of finally beating the levels tends to be low because the difficulty was simply cheap and ridiculous . Not with Ninja Gaiden Sigma . While many enemies are difficult to dispatch , with enough practice and knowledge of the combat system , the enemies do eventually go down and there's no game out there for the PS3 with a greater degree of satisfaction when a boss is defeated . That's because the combat system is fantastic . It's deep but not overly complicated , yet requires fast reflexes and proper timing . This game has actually made me better at videogames . After beating the game's normal mode , I've noticed , particularly with fighting games , my reflexes and general feel for button commands has improved . For those with the patience to stick with the initial degree of difficulty , NGS has a lot of fun in store .

      • 027 4  I rarely write reviews . In fact , I only write reviews if I REALLY enjoy a product or REALLY hate a product . Safe tot say , this game falls on the REALLY enjoyed it category . Let me start off by saying this is the most difficult game I can remember . . . and i'm talking about playing it at NORMAL difficutly setting , the hardest level available first time through . This game isn't button mashing kill fest ( eg . dynasty warriors ) . This game requires an unbelievable amount of coordination and intelligence . The action is fast , the story is enjoyable , and the bosses are diverse . At its base , this game follows a classic model . Learn the patterns of the boss , and attack when he is vulnerable . and get the heck out of the way and he is about to lay down the smack . But you have at your disposal and arsenal of magic , multiple weapons , and an amazing number of attacks . You can go with heavy and slow , or fast and light weapons . Graphics are gorgeous , the sound is brilliant , and the sound is responsive . GET THIS GAME ! ! ! but ONLY if you are upto the challenge .
      • 028 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Allow me to admit that I'm a 42 year old teacher and dad , and I probably should leave the gaming to my 4 children . That said , this game is a must own folks ! The graphics and action flow smoothly , the scenery is beautifully rendered , and it's just a ton of fun ! There is a lot of animated blood ( hey , your using throwing stars and swords , right ? ) , which is the main reason it has an M rating , but don't automatically rule it out for your own level-headed teenager . We also bought the companion guidebook which clued us in on tons of secret moves not given in the game's manual , while also giving us hints for completing any level that we got stuck on . Bottom line , we own a dozen or so PS3 games and Ninja Gaiden Sigma is in our top 3 favorites with a Dad Fun Score of 9.5 out of 10 !

      • 030 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This is one of the best games I have ever played . The graphics are fantastic and the sound is great . The game is extremely challenging , I was stock in the very first chapter and ready to give up after dying again and again , however I managed to continue and started to get more comfortable with the striking and defensive techniques . Is true that some levels are very frustrating and you start to loose your faith in your abilities , but don't give up start fresh again and you will overcome your enemies . I have my PS3 connected via a HDMI cable to my 46 Sony 1080P LCD and the sound connected to my 7.1 channels Home theatre with an Optic Fiber Cable . This game atmosphere is so intense that I get my heart pumping like in a real fight .

      • 032 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) A game that's frustrating , rewarding , visually stunning , and long running .
      • 034 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) When I bought my PS3 last month , after some careful researching , Ninja Gaiden Sigma was the game I purchased with the system . I've never played Ninja Gaiden for the X-box but had fond memories of old school Ninja Gaiden . I most definitely was not disappointed by sigma . Right from the start , this game is graphically incredible . The scenery , the game physics , the fluid controls are jaw dropping all at 60FPS . My TV supports 720p and 1080i . At 1080i this game is incredible , so I can only imagine what it must look like at 1080p Ryu's arsenal of weaponry in this game is pretty expansive . You start with the dragon sword which is a lot of fun until you come across the duel swords and then you can really slash your way through anything , until you find the lunar , which was by far my favorite weapon . Its a long bow / spear that when fully upgraded allows you to pull off some absolutely sick combos as you spin / slash your way through hordes of enemies . The projectiles are great too . I had a lot of fun with the incinidary shruikens , but the windmill shruiken was probably the most useful . Unique to this version of the game is the ability to play as Rachael , the fiend hunter . I won't lie , her missions just aren't as fun as Ryu's , she doesn't have the ability to run up walls or run across water . [ its almost unfair how many abilities Ryu has in this game ] but thankfully , her missions aren't very long and sometimes they serve as a nice breather . This game is NOT easy . It does demand that you be a solid gamer with a decent amount of patience . You will die , a lot . Especially later in the game , but its that much more rewarding when you defeat that room of 50 ninjas or demons , or that annoyingly difficult boss . If the game has one flaw , its that occasionally in small areas the camera angles can get annoying but its honestly not that big of a deal and I was able to work my way through it . Team Ninja has done a stunningly excellent job putting together what will surely be one of the PS3 ' s best games even years from now . I highly recommend getting this ASAP if you own a PS3 .

      • 043 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Don't play this game if you don't have any patience . Don't play this game if you want something that is easy . Do play this game if you want to experience some of the best graphics available on any console ever released . Do play this game if you like first person action and a fairly decent story to go with it . This is easily the best game on PS3 so far . Worth shelling out $60 for it .
      • 047 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden Sigma is the third version of the new Ninja Gaiden that first appeared on the original Xbox ( and was later re-released on that system as Ninja Gaiden : Black ) . For the most part , it's much the same game ; the storyline and settings have mostly been untouched , and while the camera has been improved , it still gets stuck or swings wildly at times . The gameplay is as fast and fierce as ever , and in fact the game is more difficult than I remember , as there are more boss fights and ninpo ( magic ) seems much less powerful than it used to be . Then again , there's more satisfaction in beating harder enemies . Aside from the graphical upgrades , there are other things that spice up the experience for those who have played the older versions of the game . The biggest addition is in a few levels where you play as Rachel . While it's interesting to kick butt as a sexy , warhammer-wielding vixen , the fun wears off quickly - her levels and enemies are the same as Ryu's , she only has one weapon and a limited moveset , and she attacks very slowly . Those levels feel like padding rather than a new experience . Other differences include new weapons ( dual katanas ) , a few new enemies and bosses , different / moved / new music at times , and a few changes to previous areas . Some of these are welcome changes . . . for instance , the water level after the aqueduct is much shorter and features less fetch-questing , and you no longer HAVE to climb the floating pyramids after fighting Doku the first time . There are still annoyances though , like the ghost fish and other enemies who attack in ravenous packs ( like the cat-people from the mission mode in Black ) . The puzzles in the pyramid have been removed and replaced with three tough enemies , and there are other places that have been made more difficult ( especially since you can't initially change the difficulty , unless you die several times and continue as a Ninja Dog ) . Although the in-game graphics look solid in HD , the original cutscenes have simply been ported over and look noticeably poor ( they were great before , but on the PS3 they look blurry and jaggy , like they were re-sized to be larger . ) . If you've played the Xbox versions and want to know if it's worth it to play through Sigma , it is . . . to a point . The improved graphics make it more enjoyable , but don't expect anything groundbreaking in terms of design .

      • 049 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Playing the game was an overall great fun .
      • 051 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) its not perfect , but it plays and handles supperbly . Good story , and quite a challenge , due to its difficulty level . The game it self was perfect , but cant say the same for everything else , i got shipped in a black broken box , no manual , no nothing , but the disc was in perfect condition , not what i expected for 30 $
      • 055 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This is the hardest game I've played in a LONG time . But b4 I get into all that , let me cover the basics . graphics : amazing graphics . characters have no apparent edges , and the lighting glistens . A true 3rd-generation experience , especially on a HD set-up . sound : once again great . music is thematically appropriate , and the clank of steel on steel reverberates . now getting to the meat of this review . The game is HARD . Where most action games inevitably become a redundant festival of button-mashing . . . tecmo has done an outstanding job maintaining a challenge that requires actual skill and reflexes . Most games that are hard , just up the ante by adding more stuff to kill , or making you die easier . This game is hard b / c it requires you to actually have hand-eye coordination . If you are upto the challenge , this game is more than well-worth the money . GET THIS GAME . . . you will want to replay this game after a few months after you complete it , if not right away .

      • 057 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) The series continues from Nintendo's best seller and greatest hits on the PS3 . You definitely have more at your disposal when it comes accomplishing missions using various weapons and ninpo techniques . It is a new story line which does not continue from its predecessors . I recommend this game to those who have played the Nintendo version or not !

      • 060 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Very hard game in my opinion but that just makes it so much more satisfying . I had no idea what I was getting into when i bought this game because I just looked at the high ratings it got from various sites instead of actually reading the reviews . . Frustrated the hell out of me at times but I am still very happy with my purchase . This is not a game for button-smashers at all . . You need to learn the various combos and master different weapons in order to get anywhere in this game but as I said before , it will all be worth it .
      • 062 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) A totally different experience than the original for Xbox . A must get for the ps3 ! ! ! !
      • 064 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) highly recommended for any action game fans out there . . . . . and especially for those who have ever fantasized about ninjas or swords !
      • 066 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) First off . . . Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox was amazing . This is , basically , the same game , however they've added a lot of new content and a fantastic graphic upgrade . Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox looked really good , and that's why it blew my mind that they could make Sigma look so much better . This really shows off the power of the PS3 . If you've never played the Xbox version ( s ) of Ninja Gaiden and you own a PS3 , GET THIS GAME RIGHT NOW . This is one of the best games ever made . It's a total action game , but you stand a great chance of loving it even if you aren't into the action genre . This game is simply amazing . If you played the Xbox version then you should take into consideration that this really is just a ( hugely ) updated version . There is a lot of extra content , but you may not want to pay full game price for what boils down to an expansion pack . If you loved the xbox version and really would like to play this game again , you will enjoy the upgrades . The graphics are not simply better ; they've changed scenery , effects , and characters in order to utilize the power of the PS3 . The very first stage , for example , featured a lot of stone walls in the Xbox version . In Sigma , it features stone walls covered in foliage and constantly falling cherry blossoms . It's simply beautiful .

      • 068 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This is one of the best games to come out for the PS3 so far IMO . They did a great job bringing it to the PS3 so that it doesn't feel like a port from xbox . The visuals are stunning the controls are quick and the fighting is a lot of fun . The game is rather hard though and can be frustrating when you are getting overwhelmed with bad guys so be prepared for that .

      • 071 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Being a huge fan of the Ninja Gaiden series since it firts came out on Nintendo , Graphics , Story , gameplay , . . everything was superb . You can figure out how please I was to get Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3 . I never onwed an Microsoft console so I was happy to finally get my hands on this so acclaimed game . Running at 1080p , the ingame graphics are great , but not the best I've seeing . The FMV are bad . The ingame cinematics are much better . One thing I've noticed is that in the middle of the action there will be a loading time witch kills the pace . There are some camera issues aswell but it doesn't affect the overall experience . There are plenty of melee weapons and projectile weapons , But I ended up using the default weapon . The game is not easy but not That difficult , specially when you get through few chapters , you increase your life gauge , upgrade your weapons and get to know the mechanics of the game , DEFENSE is the key , a good one at least . I'm giving the game 4 stars instead of 5 simply because of the storyline . There is basically nothing and it is not engaging at all unlike the old Ninja Gaiden ones , at least to me . I ended up skipping the fmvs Thanksfully , the gameplay is great . I really dig the storylines in videogames as well as the gameplay . Oh and one thing , don't know if it is considered a spoiler the his outfit in the first chapter is great and feel's ninja unlike the rest of the game where he wears a latex type of outfit witch I hate ! But again , it is just me .

      • 075 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This is a fantastic game ! Each level is challenging and the controls are extremely intuitive and easy to get used to ( i.e . no button mashing ) . The graphics are very pleasing and the sound is great . I would compare the overall gameplay and enjoyment of this game to the Devil May Cry series . BTW - you have an option to download some of the game to your console for quicker load times and smoother gameplay ; I would highly recommend doing this .
      • 079 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) The graphics and gameplay are fantastic ! This game offers no setting as far as difficulty and is so challenging It can be annoying . I think that this game offers a lot of hours of fun however , and if you are a fan of the series it is a must have !
      • 081 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Boy oh boy ! Heh , if you thought you've seen everything when you played Ninja Gaiden and NG : Black on xbox ( if you have played both of them ) , you are dead wrong ! No , there shouldn't even be a comparison between these two games , that's a pure insult ! This game is almost perfect in every aspect ! The game play , storyline and graphics ! The only thing I hate about it is the darn camera control . On other note , the timing of the release date for this game couldn't have been more perfect because only few days after its release Sony announced their price drop on PS3 60GB system . Great time own a PS3 and this game ! Do not delay and go get it now !

      • 083 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Its a decent game . It looks nice , but there's not much depth to it . Also , the learning curve is really steep . You don't have any idea what's going on at the beginning of the game , and its completely up to you to learn everything . Some enemies are practically invincible until you learn how to properly defeat them . Can be frustrating as there isn't enough structure .

      • 086 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This game was a great redo . Excellent graphics and sound . The reason for the missing star was due to the fact that some of the cut scenes were not redone for 1080p . there is a mix of old school graphics in with the new on the cut scenes only . You can definitely tell the difference . Aside from laziness of dev . team to redo all cutscenes , the game is great and worth owning . I got the game for $30 a target on a markdown so it was a steal for me .
      • 088 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Well let me start off by saying that this game is pretty difficult . This isnt your normal hack and slash and you need to spend a lot of time studying your enemies attacks and learning when to strike and with what attack . With that said , this is one of the most rewarding games you could ever play . Once your comfortable with the controls and how to go about attacking and such the action in the gameplay is unrivaled . The story falls short , but it is much more cohesive than the xbox version was , provided I only played the first one and not NG : Black . The graphics are stunning and smooth , and this surely stands as the most superior version of an oft overlooked classic .

      • 114 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden and NG : Black made their ' current-gen ' debut on the Microsoft XBox to great acclaim . Ninja Gaiden featured cutting edge console graphics , fantastic gameplay , an engaging story and is known for it's challenging difficulty . Ninja Gaiden Sigma takes all of these features and improves upon them on the Sony Playstation 3 . The graphics have been revamped and improved upon in almost every conceivable way . Details that were simply not possible before are now everywhere . Character models move fluidly at a constant 60 frames-per-second . The addition of several side-chapters as the character Rachel are also included in Sigma . Along with the side-chapters , Sigma features an extreme challenge mode that is available after finishing the game once . Essentially , it is a group of increasingly challenging battles that range from boss fights to endurance fights against groups of enemies . Also available via Playstation Network are several downloads for extra content and gameplay modes . For new players and old fans alike this is a must have game and continues to set the bar high for the action game genre . The only detraction from this game is that it does recycle cut-scenes from the XBox original . The interesting thing to note is that this is truly a game where the player controlled sequences look better than the FMV sequences .

      • 118 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) The best part of this game is the amazing graphics , which look spectacular in HD . The gameplay is pretty good , except for the occasional awkwardness of the camera angles . The bosses can tend to be tough at times , but that's why they're bosses . All in all , this is a fun game to play , I definitely recommend it .

      • 120 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This game is just plain fun ! There are so many things you can do in this game . I love the fact that you have total control of ninja and all the moves that a ninja can do . The moves are not very complicated either . The story line could be considered lame , but the fun factor of the game overshadows the lameness of the storyline . If you love an action game with a lot of sword fighting and blood , then this game is for you . Thanks ! ! !
      • 122 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I appreciate the lower difficulty setting on this version , but you're still in for a challenge ; Breathtaking graphics and fluid combat make this game a ton of fun to play , though near the end things get alot tougher . The level detail and character models / movements are at most times ' movie-like ' , and while some combo moves can be complicated , they never seem out of reach . Even non-fans of this genre would find something to drool over here ; Sigma delivers the whole package , and then some . The camera takes a little getting used to , but it's a minor flaw to me . . . .

      • 129 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This game is as good as it gets , great graphics , lengthy campaign and a difficulty that makes it even longer . Good replay value as you unlock even more hard missions on completion . The story is kinda weak but acceptable for this type of game ( beat ' m up ) as it gives you an excuse to take it to a large variety of enemies with truly different weapon types .
      • 131 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This game is off the chain . This is the first game you should get when you purchase your PS3 . If you liked devil may cry you will love ninja gaiden . The fighting is fun and the story is good as well . Its very hard also .
      • 133 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden Sigma offers loads of fun and excitement with blistering fast gameplay that never lets up . The entirely adventure runs anywhere from 9 to 12 hours and has plenty of replay value . My only problems with the title are its rather null visuals that are subpar to what other PS3 / Xbox360 games look like . However , gameplay is what succeeds and works to a charm . I consider this to be the ninja version of God of War .
      • 135 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden was one of the best games on the Xbox . It was hard , but had great variety in combat and puzzle solving and it was beautiful as well . If you never played Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox , then I highly recommend getting Ninja Gaiden Sigma . It is a nicely updated version of the game with better graphics and a few twists in gameplay . However , if you've played the Xbox version , then I don't think this version is justified . It is just too similar . I would wait for the true sequel , Ninja Gaiden 2 , which should come out in the next year .

      • 149 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden was good and Ninja Gaiden Sigma is no dissapointment including extra levels , more bosses , playable cut scenes , and a major graphics update . Sigma is no button masher like God of War or Devil May Cry ( nothing aginst them , they're a couple of my favorite games ) . If you do just mindlessly mash buttons , you will die . It's refreshing to see a game where normal enemies can kill you , not just the bosses . There are puzzles in the game , but they are not as hard as say , God of War 2 . Sigma focuses on action more than anything else . Difficulty - This is one game that hasn't been dumbed down amidst all the simple games out today . This game does have Ninja Dog Mode , which you can enable once you die a certain amount of times to make the game a little easier . If the normal mode wasn't hard enough for you , there is a hard mode for the elite enthusiasts . All in all , this game has an insane amount of polish to it . Running at 60 fps , the animations are fluid as can be and are simply gorgeous . If you have a PS3 , this is definitely a title worth owning .

This is the best game i have in my collection ( and i cant wait to get my hands on gta IV ) . If you do not like games that are 2 challenging then do not buy this one but if you do this is the game for you . ! . ! . Also if you like this game you will also like God of War .
      • 153 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Most people that like this game are gamers who are interested in a very challenging ( which is sort of an understatement ) game . In other words , this could quite possibly be one of the hardest games you've every played . So if you are inpatient , have anger issues , or stress out easily , then I'd suggest to skip this game . If on the other hand , you're interested in a challenge on an epic scale , then buy this game . Casual gamers beware ; rent it first .

      • 155 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This game is difficult but a perfect fix for PS3 owners who are software deprived . A sleek action game that runs in full 1080p , Sigma includes features new to the PS3 version such as the ability to play as Rachel , new weapons , and a couple of new bosses . The camera is still a bit annoying in some places but is an improvement from the Xbox version . Granted it may be a bit familiar to those who have played Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black on the Xbox , but during the long boring gaming days of summer it is a must buy .

A true experience , and a true testament to the fact that games can be more than the sum of their parts . . . . . You need Ninja Gaiden in your collection . . . . . and I can say that the sequel , Ninja Gaiden 2 , will probably be close to being as good as the original ( counting Black , and Sigma ) . . . . . . Continue the legacy and get into Ninja Gaiden today . . . . and don't let the tales of the difficulty fool you . . . . this game is NOT impossible . . . . . you just need to take a small amount of time and LEARN a few special techniques . . . . . . the game is balanced VERY well , and very reasonable for ANYONE to play . . . . . Buy this game TODAY ! It's never too late to enter the world of Ryu Hayabusa ! !

      • 166 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) The game has excellent graphics , fighting style , moves and everything that wants you want to have it . However beware of the difficulty level of the game . It won't suit everyone . I have finished several action / adventure games before , I'm not a pro but not bad either . However I am stuck in chapter 3 and can only read the game is just beginning , and it will get extremely more difficult . It's OK if some pro people want very hard game , but since you want to sell it to as many people as possible , provide varying difficulty levels , and let everyone enjoy it as his own pace . Not everyone has the time to keep practicing a game you know . So if you are not confident you can master it , and time is not a luxury on your side , then $60 maybe too much to spend before you quite out of frustration . There is also no proper in-game tutorial at all , you kind of have to figure it out your self . From start of the game , ninjas attack you and i was waiting for some tips as usual , but no , nothing . Even if the game is wanted to be difficult , after all you want to sell it Another annoying thing is that sometimes if you kill ninjas , leave and come back to the same room , they show up again . Very annoying . Specially that they made the Square button to examine objects and open doors , and it's also a primary fighting button . So in the middle of the fight , if you go near the wall and click the square button , you may unaware leave the area , have to go back and repeat your fight . Pretty silly . Story of the game , up till chapter 3 at least , is nothing special . Perhaps it will turn out great later on .

      • 168 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I agree that this game has excellent graphics moves and everything that you need . However I am stuck with the difficulty level and game play of the game . I believe the game play is quite repetitive and the moves are really difficult . How am I supposed to remember a five or four button sequence just to perform one move . It irritated me . I spent 40 bucks on this game and think it is not worth this much .

      • 170 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I'm not going to try to reinvent the wheel with this review . . so I'll just say the game has been a blast to play . I never had an original Xbox so I didn't play the earlier version . Having nothing to compare it to I have to say the game is tons of fun . I'm not going to get into whether it's deep or not . . it does what it does and doesn't try to do anything else . It's a hack and slash game and it's unapologetic . . which is a good thing .
      • 172 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This is a good game .
      • 174 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I bought this game because I had played the previous versions of Ninja Gaiden in other old platforms , and , surprisingly , this was much less expensive than I expected . This is a much better game than so many I have seen . It is not easy , the enemies attack in group , adapt the offensive and get tougher with time . Your character dies all the time and you have to try again countless times , but once you finish off a chapter boss you feel a real sensation of accomplishment . What I like the most about this Ninja Gaiden version is that you can't expect the enemies to behave the same , even when you are trying again and encountering the same group of foes in the same situation you had before . The AI is very good . Depending on how you face them , your first strike , your character's position , etc , they will change the strategy . Also , as other reviewers mentioned , most enemies have some attacks that can't be blocked ( you must try to evade them ) , if you block for too long or at the wrong time , they will break it and if you use the same attacks many times without varying , the enemies will adapt , blocking or evading them . The graphics and sounds are good , but not too impressive , but I prefer challenging AI with good / average graphics to weak AI with mesmerizing graphics any day . If you want real tough action , try this title ( there is a demo at the Playstation store ) , but if you get frustrated easily , don't bother . There are easier titles around . One criticism I have is that the saved game loading ( when your character dies and you want to continue ) and chapter loading ( once you complete the previous one ) are slow ( at least , for me ) , even after installing the game in the hard drive ( though it does improve it ) . But , it is a minor issue that don't affect the rest . Advice : master the combo techniques . There are several of them and some require a sequence of 6 buttons to work . Your path will be smoother and the chapter bosses fall faster . In the end , a great title .

      • 176 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Over all , this game is pretty awesome . Im deployed to Iraq right now and i've played some pretty good games , but this one is a for sure top 5 on my list . The graphics are sweet and just the gameplay over all is awesome . And the price really isnt bad . . . . recommend to all .
      • 178 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden is still the bar I use to judge other action game controls . NG's fighting system controls on a dime . The tight controls are necessary for a game this challenging . The first boss in this game is legendary for his difficulty . This is one of the games I was most excited for after getting a PS3 . The difficulty definitely isn't for for everyone . The combat is so satisfying though , I don't mind trying to get to the next checkpoint . One tip . If the difficulty is too much , try dying immediately on the first level a few times to unlock a lower difficulty .

      • 180 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden Sigma is the third version of the new Ninja Gaiden that first appeared on the original Xbox ( and was later re-released on that system as Ninja Gaiden : Black ) .

      • 182 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Two words to describe this game , so hard , actually three words , so very hard . This game is the most unforgiving , and toughest game I have ever played on any platform . While the story line itself is fairly interesting ; the gameplay itself is at time extremely frustrating and unforgiving . You will find yourself pulling out your own hair trying to time the perfect jump or understand what part of a particular puzzle you are missing . This game remind me alot of the old school prince of persia PC games . Its a lot of jumping around , timing your jumps , going back and force to collect a key or some sort of missing piece of a puzzle . And the bosses at each level is very much like to old school games where the bosses do a preprogrammed set of moves that if you can time fairly well will be easy to beat . Overall not an impressive game but fairly fun once you complete it as you will have a sense that accomplished something , kind of like the feeling you finally mowed your lawn or cleaned out an epic mess .

      • 185 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I'm half way through the game . If it were one word I had to use to describe it , I'd say challenging . It's not your typical button mashing hack n slash . As stated by others , it takes technique . It also takes alot of patience . I could see some people breaking their controllers out of frustration . But that doesn't take away from the fun . Finding new weapons and upgrading them is a plus . The only negative I have is the camera angle . Sometimes it can be a little weird . Unlike alot of games these days the storyline is worth paying attention to . The graphics are also nice . 9.5 out of 10 in my book .

      • 189 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I give Ninja Gaiden Sigma a 4 because there were a few things that I didn't like about it , though there are good things about it too . First off in Sigma you can control the camera unlike in the one that came out on the first Xbox . This makes the game a hell of a lot easier . At times the audio just doesn't give you the umph that you would think there should be - that's one one the reasons why I give Sigma a 4 , another reason is the fact that the cg sequences are not rendered in HD . This means that the cg sequences don't look as good as the in-game graphics . I also did not like some of the extra stuff that Team Ninja threw into Sigma . The extra chapters don't really add anything to the story of Ninja Gaiden . Other than that the game was good .

      • 192 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Bought this recently because I liked the demo and heard the sequel was coming out . Pros : In game graphics is stunning . It's a dated game but graphics is still great . Great overall controls , they made easy and simple , it will make you feel like a fast moving killing machine . It can be difficult to do more controlled movements whenever you want to make it through certain obstacles because character movement like turning is not that precise . But no big deal . Liked how they used the SIXAXIS to make ninpo more powerful . Decent storyline , at least there was decent attempt to create a story supported by some lore . Very challenging . Offers different levels of challenges . Just finsihed normal mode and working on hard mode . Definitely need some patience to master . It's not your regular hack and slash . You will actually need to know what technique works best on each enemy , even the weakest ones . This makes the game more interesting since you don't just blindly hack your way to completion . Your character is very powerful as long as you know how to use him / her . Nice variety of weapons , power ups , upgrades , secondary weapons . The different weapons change the play style which is great . Also has a treasure hunt kind of feature and several in game challenges to get more power ups which I think is a good addition to the overall game . Cons : One thing that really annoyed me about this game was in some boss battles , there were areas where your character can normally access ( when not in a boss battle ) that all of a sudden you cannot access during a boss battle . There is no obstruction , no nothing , it's just the character just cannot move in that direction anymore . To me it was stupid . Developers could have at least made some kind of barrier or something which would make area movement restriction more sensible . To me this is due to lazy developers . Also in boss battles the camera angles are restricted which is annoying . Normally you can control the direction of the camera but in some boss battles there fixed camera angles . Not a big deal but a little annoying . Movie cutscenes not so great , they seem to have used the original xbox cutscenes which are not up to the current graphic standards , no big deal but annoying . Overall a great game even with it's minor flaws . I'm happy I got it , I'm sad that I did not get it much earlier . Going to definitely get the sequel . Will be replaying this for quite some time .

      • 202 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Like the other reviewers I think this is a fantastic game ! . The story , graphics , sound , action , weapons , bosses , enemies , everything is just amazing . But the game is soooooo hard , and frustrating ! Bosses that are too powerful , stages that are really , really complicated , enemies like the ghost fishes that are a real pain in the $ % & ! ! ! I got lost a couple of times , and I wasted like 2 hours , I had to look for the right way on the internet . Maybe , I just suck at video games , but to beat this game I had to give sweat , tears and blood ! ! Like one of the other reviewers suggested get a guide or download one thru internet , because you might need it . . . or not . Buy this game , one of the best games I have ever played . . . and good luck , you will need it .

It also has tons of extras to be unlocked , so this is a highly playable game over and over again . It just never gets tired . Sure if you have played Ninja Gaiden Black for the xbox it may seem a little recycled but that was for a different platform . The Sigma series is something you need to play for yourself . A great addition to the Ryu Hayabusa story line . The graphics and story line are amazing not to mention brutal gameplay with a wide array of weapons . You won't be disappointed and it's at a great price now that it's a greatest hit . Get this game .

      • 218 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I was never a big Ninja Gaiden fan , but after playing this game I have become one . This game has everything that an action game should should have . - Great graphics - great action - stellar boss battles - and much more Being the first installment , I suggest getting this game , if you are a fan of action games . Because you will most likely want to get sigma 2 after . The difficultly is somewhat annoying at time , but nothing to get hung up on , i.e . the ghost fish are a pain in the a * * . - the gameplay is great - the story is ok - and the characters are pretty cool . There is little that is actually wrong with this game . I would actually give it 4.5 stars . I do not love this game , because I don't love games . I just find them entertaining , and that is what this game is . This game will give you some entertainment for a good ten to 12 hours in one sit through . Maybe more , that is just the story . There is modes after that you can play , and if you have online you can see where you can rank . Like I said , I suggest this game The cons - little bugs in the gameplay - the ghost fish ( I do not think they are fun in anyway ) . They should come up with a way to make them attack where they only consume up to half of your health at most . Watching Ryu being eaten to death by fish is just plain stupid . This is no reason not to get the game . It does happen a lot but not too much . As you can see there are a lot more pros then cons to me . There is nothing perfect in this world , so if you are thinking about it . You should get it .

      • 232 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This game is harder than most of its type , God of War , Devil May Cry 4 etc . . . but I didn't find the combat especially frustrating . However , the game design is especially frustrating . Save points are never right in front of bosses , you always have to run for a few extra minutes each time you die , kind of a pointless exercise in frustration . The combat is fairly deep , timing and direction of dodging are the keys to winning most of the harder fights . However , the camera makes things extremely frustrating when you can't see enemies and especially when there's platforming involved . A lot of the non combat design really hampers the game , yes it does make the game harder , but it also makes it feel ancient .

      • 238 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This game is pretty fun . There is however , little greatness about it . It is VERY hard , which is nice since most games today seem designed to be beaten . It is very fast paced , making you run , jump , flip , and cut your way out of danger . However , it just doesn't offer anything beyond action . If you like a strictly action packed beat ' em up , this is totally your game , if you like depth and strategy , maybe not so much . It is fun , and has great visuals , it just doesn't exactly have much more to offer . I would have enjoyed it if the enemies didnt automatically know where you are , you cannot sneak at all , and in fact YOU are more often than not ambushed from opponents falling from the sky or teleporting out of the ground .
      • 240 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I have an Xbox 360 and a PS3 . I find the controllers of the PS3 to be child size so I only buy exclusive titles for the PS3 . If Ninja Gaiden Sigma was on Xbox I would have bought that version , but it is not . Ninja Gaiden Sigma has been a lot of fun . The character movements are smooth , the graphics are fine and if you enjoy a good puzzle you like this . There is a lot of back and forth . The developer uses the maps sometimes more than twice but don't think your getting repeat game play . Overall I really , really like this game . There's my 2 cents .

      • 244 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Out of all the pure action games Ninja Gaiden stands above them all . Games such as the God of War series and Devil May Cry series are good in their own right ( god of War moreso ) but neither get the gameplay as good as Ninja Gaiden . The variety and usefulness of the weapons make for a ton of options of how you want to go about conquering this game . The one thing that makes this game what it is though are the enemies . There are no cans so to speak and each enemy has the potential to kill you if your not on your A-Game . People take this as being difficult but when you put a bit of time into it the game is better because of it . When you beat this game you get a sense of accomplishment that you dont get from many other games because their too easy . God of War i died four times the entire game , Ninja Gaiden was about a hundred haha
      • 249 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Personally , I think this game is really good . The controls are easy to get down ; the game at times requires speed and quick thinking , it's difficult , and really long . All these factors combine into something I want to play , something I have to TRY to beat . Sure it may not have too much replay value , but the first playthrough is good enough . For me , anyway .
      • 251 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I thought the game fabulous ! There are two regards . The first and big one is when you are fighting and you get near a corner or a wall of a place and you have to move a lot , then sometimes a piece of the scenery gets in front and you can see what is going on ! It is very frustrating when you are hit and does not know where the hit come from . The second one is at less importance . It comes when the character find himself between closer walls , the camera simply changes automatically by one side to the other . So if you are moving to one side when the camera changes you go to the opposite one . But again , the game is very worth ! ! Enjoy it !

      • 256 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This is a touch game , but not so tough to make it infuriating . A casual gamer like me could beat it on normal mode , it just took a little more time then your average button masher usually does . Enemies come flying at you pretty fast , and you have to be like cha cha assa eeeyaaaaaaa ! Study your enemies and find their weaknesses . You can't just spam the triangle button and expect to win . And just remember , Daijubu desu !
      • 258 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Before this game was release , ps3 was lacking title ; only great game was the resistance that's about it , but Ninja Gaiden Sigma which is a improve verson of the xbox version know was the best action game that system at that time . Was instant hit in ps3 . This was also one of vew few game support in 1080p . Tecmo has spend great deal of time transfer this game from 480p ( xbox ) to 1080p ( ps3 ) Story is not the greatest or good but is that gameplay that sell and do very well here . Each weapon are unique and has tons of combine moves more than your typical fighting game . The graphic is very well done especially in the First stage , it does get repeated often in stags , monster and even boss . But not necessary a bad thing . However the game might be tough especially if you don't look for gameguide or help . Because can't be frusted due to lack of guide where to go and maps is map not showing your current location . Save game and shop can be a issue in some stage , someway very similar to devil may cry . For 29.99 you can't go wrong with it , by far the best game for that price tag along with resistance .

      • 260 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) THE GOOD : - Graphics : One of the best looking games on PS3 . The lighting effects are top notch . Overall scenery is great and the blood / gore looks good too . - Controls : basic controls are easy to learn , as are the many combination moves . I hate the camera though . 50% of the time something is blocking your view and you end up get slashed up . - Weapons : immense selection of weapons , from swords to throwing stars to huge battle axes to bow and arrow , this game has it all . - Quick load times THE BAD : - Difficulty level is too high . There is no selectable difficulty level in the Options menu . You have to begin the game in Normal , and then if you get stuck , you say you want to give up . . . and they bump the difficulty down to Easy and call you a Ninja Dog . Thanks . - Sound quality is very poor . I think they pulled a few too many sound effects from the Sega Genesis bin . I want to feel that sword strike , but it just sounds terrible . Everything is muffled . And I have Dolby Digital . . . no help . - No way to get back to the main menu once you start playing . You have to quit the game . I can't believe this . Talk about a stupid oversite . - Cheesy voice overs everywhere . Translated dialogue didn't translate so well . - Cheap looking menu structure . Again Genesis bin on this . - Camera views are very poor ( see above ) .

      • 262 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I grew up on the ninja gaiden series and thought that this would be fun to play . But now I know why we just rented all the titles . Here are a few pros and cons to the game and you should just rent it . Pros : Good combat system . Good graphics . The combat system is good and deep for just a hack and slash . And there is room for growth as you upgrade weapons and find weapons . Graphics are clean and clear and very detailed . Along with a lot of other things that really stand out to make you look in that direction . Cons : Camera Storyline controls Menu options The camera could have been just a tad bit tighter so that you didn't have to keep adjusting it or hitting the R1 button to center it . The storyline could have been a little bit more deeper then just straight up revenge . And the controls needed to be really tight cause trying to get to higher places required you to jump to certain places and not being in the right place to do this usually meant hit or miss and then doing it all over again and again . And the last one is the menu options . This was probably the most frustating one of all cause to change weapons you had to open the menu , to use special items you opened the menu , to switch certain items you opened the menu and if you wanted to pause the game guess what ? You opened the menu ! . This is suppose to be a fastpaced game and you relied on the menu for certain things that are critical to the game . Which is how its suppose to be but in the middle of something I find myself hitting this button a lot to do certain things in the game and there was no way to map it to other buttons or set it up for that . Long ? Yes . Worth buying ? No . Worth playing ? Yes . Any replay value ? NO . Regardless of the flaws in this title its still pretty good compared to what is out there now and still a good title to play . Once again if your funds are low and you don't want to waste cash on a game this will hold you over for a long weekend or a week . But I would not recommend buying this title cause its just not that filling . Its like eating chinese food . No matter how much you eat , your hungry again later . And this title does fall into this group . Once your done , your done .

      • 280 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I bought this game after reading nice reviews . I have several games , and NGS is the one I play the least . It doesn't feel like a next gen game , grapfics aren't that great , sounds isn't so good and the camera really sucks . It's actually the exact same xbox game with MINOR improvements . Why bring a game back if not you're not gonna make it a real competitor to current games ? . The game is hard , simply because you can't stay in one spot without getting killed in a second . You have to keep moving and jumping and fighting ( with the cameras , not just the enemies ) . Sounds fun ? naah , it's not . To have some chance , you have to actually learn the combos , and this combos are many , and different with each weapon , but even if you learn and master the combos , theyre not easy to execute because of a really bad camera . Let me say some good thing about this game , theres always good and bad things to say about almost everything . It has a wide range of weapons , the long combos look great when performed the right way , and you fell a great relieve when you finish a level after trying for many times . if you buy this game , you'll probably think it isn't so hard . Wait till you get to level 6 or 7 . Unless you have a lot of games and can't find anything to spend your money on , dont buy this game . Besides , the lack of online features , multiplayer , trophies , or add on content , make replayability factor equal to zero .

This game is too long ( for no reason ) and the story line goes on and on and after you beat one boss you think somthong really awesome is going to happen but no ! somthong dumb and pointless happens. The only challenge that you will face is enduring this games long pointless story line . The bosses were easy to beat once you figure out the pattern if anything it's annoying ! I would not recommend this game to anyone ! On the plus side the graphics are awesome and the fight combos are pretty sweet , still that does not make up for the wasted time and WTH is going on questions you will be asking yourself . So do yourself a favor and save some time and money . . . . . . . don't get this game !

    • 087 4  This game was a great redo .

      • 188 4  This game is Excellent ! The scenaries are very detailed . The graphics are amazing . The fightings are greate . The weapons are very good . I am very satisfied with it .

    • 136 4  Ninja Gaiden was one of the best games on the Xbox .
      • 156 4  This game is difficult but a perfect fix for PS3 owners who are software deprived .

    • 146 4  This was a gift for my boyfriend , and he loved it . The price was a bit steep , but most video games are . I was proud to buy it from Amazon because they always take such good care of my account and purchases .
      • 126 4  Is a great game , with a lot of combos , the design is perfect and you will enjoy it .
      • 165 4  amazon is the best ! the game condition is perfect , so i give it 5 out of 5

    • 152 4  I just got this game because i needed a knew game to play and when i played i was stuck on it for hours mind you i only finished the first level , this game is extremely hard and fun i am only on stage six up to date ( took me a few weeks ) my favorite level is the one when you first start playing as the girl i love her weapon it is like a giant scythe . This is the best game i have in my collection ( and i cant wait to get my hands on gta IV ) . If you do not like games that are 2 challenging then do not buy this one but if you do this is the game for you . ! . ! . Also if you like this game you will also like God of War .
      • 052 4  its not perfect , but it plays and handles supperbly . Good story , and quite a challenge , due to its difficulty level . The game it self was perfect , but cant say the same for everything else , i got shipped in a black broken box , no manual , no nothing , but the disc was in perfect condition , not what i expected for 30 $
      • 139 4  I bought this game 2 weeks ago with low expectations , but wow was i wrong , this game has everything and more , and the graphics are amazing ( even in 1080i ) . Must have game for your PS3
      • 208 4  This game was definitely worth the $10.00 I payed for it . . . hell its worth $50 . A great challenge for the hardcore action gamers that offers true feelings of accomplishment for every enemy you kill . Pick it up , its not one to miss .

    • 171 4  I'm not going to try to reinvent the wheel with this review . . so I'll just say the game has been a blast to play .
      • 080 4  The graphics and gameplay are fantastic ! This game offers no setting as far as difficulty and is so challenging It can be annoying . I think that this game offers a lot of hours of fun however , and if you are a fan of the series it is a must have !

    • 184 4  Two words to describe this game , so hard , actually three words , so very hard .
      • 124 4  I appreciate the lower difficulty setting on this version , but you're still in for a challenge ; Breathtaking graphics and fluid combat make this game a ton of fun to play , though near the end things get alot tougher . The level detail and character models / movements are at most times ' movie-like ' , and while some combo moves can be complicated , they never seem out of reach . Even non-fans of this genre would find something to drool over here ; Sigma delivers the whole package , and then some . The camera takes a little getting used to , but it's a minor flaw to me . . . .
      • 225 4  maybe because I am not goot at act game , this game is kind of hard for me . but I have to say if we can practice more , it will be a good experience after you finish it .

    • 234 4  This game is harder than most of its type , God of War , Devil May Cry 4 etc . . . but I didn't find the combat especially frustrating .
      • 121 4  This game is just plain fun ! Thanks ! ! !
      • 134 4  Ninja Gaiden Sigma offers loads of fun and excitement with blistering fast gameplay that never lets up .
      • 198 4  This is an awesome game . The fact that it is challenging only makes it more fun to play . The cons that I found with the game were the camera and the location of the save points . But overall the game is so good that the flaws aren't very noticeable .

    • 239 4  This game is pretty fun .
      • 217 4  This is a great game , nothing but a fun ride all the way through the MANY levels .

    • 257 4  This is a touch game , but not so tough to make it infuriating .
      • 085 4  Its a decent game .

    • 277 4  This is really one of the best games EVER ! I thank God i resumed gaming with this particular game after a layoff of over ten years . It made me thank God I got a PS3 !
      • 098 4  I think its a decent game great graphics . . . i would suggest it 2 any n.g . fan . . . . R . $ . G .

    • 285 4  When I played the demo for this game I was very excited and against the advice of my friend I brougt this game . After about an hour or so of game play I can say I was ready for this game to be over !
      • 076 4  This is a fantastic game !
      • 095 4  I really had fun time with this game , the actions and controls are good . However , the level are a little hard , I had to die like a dozen times to kill the boss at the end of each one level ( saving game before fighting the boss is the best way to go ^ ^ )
      • 130 4  This game is as good as it gets , great graphics , lengthy campaign and a difficulty that makes it even longer . Good replay value as you unlock even more hard missions on completion . The story is kinda weak but acceptable for this type of game ( beat ' m up ) as it gives you an excuse to take it to a large variety of enemies with truly different weapon types .
      • 245 4  Out of all the pure action games Ninja Gaiden stands above them all .

    • Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Entertaining game , but very tough even on normal / default difficulty .
      • 039 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) The graphics are amazing mostly under 1080p . It's a challenging game to play but that's what makes it sooooooooooo fun . They really did a great job with this game . It's so fun , I am going to return my friend's playstation O.o and buy myself one : ) On a side note , I cant wait until Tekken 6 comes out . Back to Ninja Gaiden , I'm speechless , it's AWESOME ! ! ! Playstation is making a comeback thanks to it . I know why they called it Sigma now , it's better than the summation of all the games on PS3 . ^ _ ^
      • 041 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This is an amazing game . Built from the mold of God of war , Ominishu , and even Shinobi ( PS2 ) this game is outstanding . The combos can be tricky and the enemies can be insanely cheap , but it is worth every penny . I grow tired of some younger gamers complaining about how difficult this and other games similar to it are . Go back to the old school NES days where many games offered no saves and sent you back to not a save point ; not the begining of the level ; but to the title screen so you could start the whole thing over again . I just don't get it . You spend $60 on a game , why not soak every penny out of it ? It took me about 25 hours to beat this masterpiece and I discovered whole new levels of gameplay available . This is truly the disc that keeps on giving .

      • 045 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Being a huge fan of action games , such as Devil May Cry and God of War , I am also a major fan of the Ninja Gaiden series . In fact I actually still enjoy playing the original 8 - bit games on my old NES . The series has always been known for its difficulty , even back in the old school days . So , nothing has changed there . I have Ninja Gaiden Black for my Xbox 360 and I also have Ninja Gaiden Sigma for my PlayStation 3 , which version is better ? The PS3 one definitely is by a long shot . Ninja Gaiden Sigma plays exactly like Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden . The main difference many people take note of is the new , more polished visual style that the game received after being enhanced for a next generation console . It's as if Tecmo put a new fresh coat of paint to make the game's graphics pop a little more than the Xbox versions . The graphics are truly amazing , especially cut-scene visuals . But graphics alone don't make a game . So , how does it stack up to the games released before it ? Pretty good . The story remains the same as Ninja Gaiden Black , but with a few additional missions , and a few new gameplay tweaks to persuade customers to purchase the game over its various counterparts or in some cases in addition to its counterparts . The additions range from minor tweaks such as the camera , which still can be finicky at times , to more drastic changes such as weapons , and missions . Some of these additions include new weapons , such as my personal favorite weapon in the game , Dragon's Claw and Tiger's Fang . This weapon is a special dual wielded set of katanas that have fluid and contain elaborate combos , making them a great addition to the game's arsenal of already diverse weapons . Another addition is the ability to shoot the bow while in the air and the ability to walk across the surface of water . However , the biggest , and most obvious addition to the game is the ability to play as Rachel . Rachel's missions play differently than Ryu's , mostly due to the different play-styles between the two characters . Ryu is fast and nimble , while Rachel plays slow and bulky , making maneuvering her around the areas quite challenging at times . Tecmo took full advantage of the Six Axis , in a well implemented , non-gimmicky way . The controller's internal gyroscopic technology can be used to power up Ninpo attacks . This is a nice little feature to have in the game . The quick menu that allows the player to use items without having to go the menu screen is also a great addition that can be very beneficial in the midst of an enemy assault on a massive scale . Ninja Gaiden Sigma is only lacking the additional NES games that its counterpart had , but otherwise this is my favorite version of the game . A solid action game with great mechanics , stunning visuals , and intense challenge and depth make Ninja Gaiden Sigma a must own game .

Story line OK . Game play frustrating to say the least . This is not an easy play through . I would reccomend it .

      • 242 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Awesome game . It's very difficult , but fun to play and master . Remember back in the days of the original Ninja Gaiden games ? Die enough times in a game and use enough continues and what happens ? You are welcomed with the title screen . . . . this game is tough and frustrating as hell but at least you can save your game and continue from the last save . The camera . . . . could be better . It's not enough to ruin the game and you get used to it . . . . but it is a little annoying . Not horrible though , just a bit annoying . Again , not a deal breaker . . . If you haven't played this yet , do yourself a favor and pick it up . Great price now too . . . This just barely gets 4 stars from me . . . the annoying camera and shoddy story drops it down to about a 3.8 . . . . but the fact that it is SO near perfect of a 3 - D sequel to the original NES games bumps it back up to a 4 - star .

      • 274 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) This game is a dissapointment . I bought it because I was getting it on a deal but it really wasn't worth it . The graphics are sub-par for a next gen game . The story is OK because I can understand the old NES effect they were shooting for . However where this game really bites is the camera angles , OMG ! The camera is sooooooooo lame ! During the regular game it's not so bad , but the boss fights make you want to break this disk . The bosses are constantly moving ( as bosses tend to do ) but the camera focuses only on you , if you try to swerve the camera to find the boss , it leaves you off screen and you STILL get your butt kicked . You dropped the ball Team Ninja .

    • Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I never can get enough of Ninja Gaiden . I had Ninja Gaiden Black from the Xbox and completed everything in that game , and I really mean EVERYTHING . All difficulty modes to Master Ninja and all missions completing Eternal Legend . Sigma is a great improvement over Black . Filling in the empty pieces with playing as Rachel and a more clear history of the Ancient Fiends . Defeated it on MASTER NINJA , wich I find not many in the world have accomplished . Hardest part of this difficulty was geting the last Diety before fighting the final bosses . It took me a great deal of effort fighting against the 2 Ancient fiends back to back . That flying Demon was next but was not as hard . Adding another weapon was a good idea , the twin swords were hard to controll at first , but it got better as you played on . Overal graphic improvement was outsanding , especially when you start the story mode . If you played previous Ninja Gaidens you will see the very obvious imrovements made . All Ninja Gaiden fans need to get this game and achieve the Highest honor of defeating Master Ninja . A GAME THAT WAS MADE 3 DIFFERENT TIMES IS WORTH GIVING A LOOK . I DON'T KNOW OF ANY OTHER FRANCHISE OTHER THAN STREET FIGHTER TO DO THIS .
      • 001 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I played this on the Xbox a while ago and thought this was an excellent game and there wasn't much room for improvement . So far I've played this for a few hours and must say this game is DEFINATELY worth playing again . New levels , new bosses , new weapons , new scenery . But you probably knew all this already . The biggest difference , at least to me , is the controls . They were excellent on Xbox , but this is WAY better . NG Black had a few frustrating jump sequences because camera would sometimes lose the perspective of the place you needed to see . This seems like it's been imporved a great deal . Because of tighter controls , action feels much faster , but at the same time easily manageable . 16 : 9 screen format is also a big improvement , since now it's not as easy for enemies to sneak up on you . Wether you played this before or you are new to NG , or for that matter PS3 - this is the one to have . It's a difficult and lenghty game , but it's one of the best games I ever played ( and I've played many since the original Atari )

      • 026 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) I rarely write reviews .

      • 073 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden Sigma is without question the best release to date { 9 / 07 } for the PS3 system in my opinion . What I really liked about NGS , was the fact that it wasn't a hack & slash video game . It takes skill to defeat your enemies during fighting scenes / boss battles . When searching out hidden clues , things can also get confusing at times , which makes the game more interesting in my opinion . NGS really kept me on edge , and left me wondering what was coming around the next corner . . . This game is extremely challenging as well . It took me awhile before I started feeling like I was making significant progress , and the game becomes even more difficult as the story progresses , which is great by the way . I'm only about half way through NGS , but I must say this is the most fun I've had playing any game for the new PS3 system thus far . So what are you waiting for ? ? Buy it ! ! ! . . . . 5 STARS / BUY WITH CONFIDENCE ! ! !

    • Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Poor controls , poor camera and cheap enemy AI combine to make a game that's mostly unfun to play . Normally , I'd just rate it low and move on without a review , but this game is un-fun in a very special kind of way : It is extremely fun at its core , but has extra features that take it all away . This is a game based entirely around intense combat ; you're a seriously bad-ass ninja , and you're going to kick the door in and kill a couple million other ninja before you have breakfast . The story is laughable to annoying , and that's to be expected ( and I don't hold it against the game ) . The graphics are pretty ( except the FMVs , which would be sub-par on a PS2 ; did they not upgrade these from the xbox version ? ) . Ok , lets get on to the gameplay . You are provided with a variety of weapons and a ridiculous number of combos for each of them . You're extremely quick and agile and acrobatic . What could possibly go wrong ? 1 ) The Camera . The final boss of this game should be the freaking camera . It's almost cliche to complain about the camera in a 3d game , but its particularly bad here . You can rotate it around with the right analog stick , and that would be great except : - You can't control the zoom distance , which means oftentimes rotating it will simply allow you to be 3 inches from Ryu's backside instead of 3 - inches from his stomach . This is especially troublesome because they like you to have long protracted fights in tiny cramped environments . - The game is not content to let you have complete control over it . Oftentimes it just won't let you rotate to a specific spot , other times you have to fight with the camera control as it tries to go off on its own do god knows what ( but certainly not anything like getting you and your enemies on the screen ) . - Everytime you enter a room ( aside from every door entry being an annoying 6 - second in-game cutscene ) the camera faces you and the door you came in from . This leaves you in poor position the fight the 3 enemies that are rushing you while you're standing still trying to fight the camera to get behind you so you can see the enemies . IT INTENTIONALLY SETS YOU UP WITH THE WORST POSSIBLE CAMERA ANGLE ( 180 degrees from what you'd want ) EVERYTIME YOU ENTER A ROOM . 2 ) Next , the controls . Combos work fine ( well sorta ; to be discussed below ) , it's mostly movement and Aim that suffer . Subtle changes in movement direction just aren't acknowledged . Instead of the analog stick , you'd be just as well off with the D-pad ( except the D-pad does something else , so you can't use it for movement ) . This is important when you want to attack the guy that's ever so slightly to the right and in front of you . . . you'd think being a ninja this would be possible . It's not . You're about as maneuverable as one of those arcade crane games . You will attack dead ahead , oblivious to the guy 3 inches from where your blade goes . Further more , I know ninjas are supposed to be dedicated and all , but this game takes it too far . Anytime you want to swing your weapon / attack , you dedicate yourself to this completely . This means you lose the ability to block , dodge or redirect your attacks for 2 - 6 seconds depending upon what the attack you're doing . At the end of any combo you'll also frequently stand there in some menacing ninja pose for a second or so before you can re-take control of your character again . You even do this when you dodge , which kinda of ruins the whole idea of being evasive . About the combos . Assuming you don't get hurt in the middle of it , most combos are fairly easy to pull off . That's a big assumption though , and one that will prove false in most occasions . There's about half-dozen moves that are worthwhile with each weapon , and the rest will see precious little use because 99% of combat is blocking for a couple seconds and then making a single quick attack . The situations where this is not the case are : - It's a solo boss-type enemy , in which case you will be doing more evading than blocking . Any attempt at a long complex combo will leave you hurt because they are not stunned by your attacks and will attack you right back if you're not evading . - It is the last enemy from a horde , in which case he is easily dispatched without the need for any sort of combo . 3 ) Enemy AI . This game is difficult , and the enemies are no slouches . A handful of hits from almost any enemy will kill you . This leaves very little room for error in battles , even with minor foes . Enemies are extremely quick , evasive and aggressive . They work well as a team : one will often perform a guard-blocking move right when others are attacking you so as to screw you . They also scatter off camera like cockroaches when the lights come on . Thats right : the AI doesn't make them get behind you , above you , etc ; it makes them get off-camera where they charge up and do power-moves / charges or powerful ranged attacks like rockets , magic , etc . If they're not performing guard breaking moves , they're hitting you with moves that just plain ignore your blocking . When you drop your own block to attack ( or if you use a counter attack move ) they're right there to hit you the millisecond your guard drops . It's really more of a Cheap AI than a particularly good one . They have computer-perfect reaction time and massive damage . 4 ) Loading and Bad Environments : The loading in this game is annoying . Outdoor areas will frequenyly have to load for a few seconds , and the places where they do this are almost always at an enemy respawn point you'll have to trek past multiple times . For extra-happy fun , when it is done loading ( anywhere from about 3 - 10 seconds ) usually about a second's worth of combat will pass by that you didn't get to see or interact with . It's free time for the enemy to beat-down on you . Another thing : combat frequently takes place around doors or intractable objects . Coincidentally , the same button used to interact with them is one of your two attack buttons . This will leave you examining objects , or worse , going through doors and resetting encounters . You could have picked a different button for this one guys ; R2 isn't used for anything I don't think . Save points frequently have respawning enemies on them . This means , anytime you load a game from that savepoint , you will be ambushed the second ( literally ) you get in game . That's just mean . All of this combines to be a mostly frustrating game play . Every now and again they'll get it right . The camera will manage to have both you and the enemies on screen , your attack will actually make contact with the enemy instead of missing because he's 3 degrees to your right , and there won't be a loading screen in the combat arena . When this happens , its very rare , but it's also really really fun . This is why the game is such a let-down . The potential is right there staring you in the face . The execution , however , was very , very poor .

      • 106 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Whatever happened to Nintendo thumb ? Sure relatively new games like Gears of War come with some visual teeth , if no real challenge . Resident Evil 4 had some scenes of panic at first . Even Men of Valor on the old Xbox had its frustrating moments of cheap kills out of nowhere . But these games are all pussy cats . Now days , 8 - 12 hour and sometimes less , play for the main campaign is considered normal . We really aren't getting our money's worth . Instead , the developers try to focus us on multiplayer elements that really don't take the same imagination to design around , leaving the single player story thin and short . Well I like multiplayer , but my friends aren't always around . Single player is the breadwinner for me on most games . As a kid back in the 80s , it took years , YEARS i say , to beat some games , if I even braved the time to beat them . These were games you had to take real time off from to avoid throwing the NES out the door . Megaman 1 was one of those break the controller or break your thumb games . I never did see the end of Battletoads . Of course , there was the original Ninja Gaiden . It too was a study of time and patience to memorize jump timing in every moment on almost every level to succeed . The designers really WANTED to beat you down . Even the movie King of Kong proved this point in a way with Donkey Kong . That is a really hard game , even after all these years . So why have games become so easy ? Who knows . But those days came back thanks to Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden . I did my first tour of the new Ninja Gaiden back on Xbox and here we get the same old goodness . Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a great throwback in many ways not only to the old NES classics in theme , but also in its brutal challenge . Team Ninja are absolute masochists . Ninja Gaiden Sigma is only slightly softer than its Xbox cousin , slightly as in almost invisibly . This game is hard . The multi hit combos take time to pull off right , save points aren't helpful and bosses can be punishing . This is not a bad thing . Multiplayer or not , I for one am sick and tired of running through most of these $70 games in a few hours or a day and then what ? And for the most part , multiplayer dynamics have changed very little since Goldeneye . Its minutiae we're looking at here folks . Ninja Gaiden , here in its second update , basically a re-release of NG Black , still plays great and offers real challenge in the face of easy shallow gaming of today . Part 2 on 360 was bloody fun and difficult also , but to me , clearly felt unfinished . Sigma on the PS3 is a good update . You get a new character in the name of Rachel to play as , which is fun for a few minutes at least . The updated visuals are clean and shiny , if a bit too shiny and plasticky . Environments are nice but textures are a bit simple . Lighting effects though , have improved greatly . In short , they get the job done for PS3 . The camera is still evil , even if you can move it , there is rarely an optimum spot to see and because of it , bad guys come from nowhere frequently . So its not perfect for sure . Sigma is budget priced , but you'd think after so many years , Sony and Tecmo could knock at least another $10 off the price by now . Nevertheless , the satisfying visuals , fast paced action and infuriating challenge assure if you can deal with the awful camera and you're game to advance your skills over some time , this one won't feel like a waste of money like most games out there . Sigma , like its two Xbox predecessors and at least two NES ancestors is a guaranteed good buy . Ninja Gaiden is classic , entertaining and absolutely unforgiving . It even comes with complimentary Nintendo thumb .
      • 108 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Ninja Gaiden Sigma , a re-worked version of a re-worked version of Ninja Gaiden for the original Xbox , initially frustrated me to no end and made me glad I only rented it since the maddening difficulty and god-awful platforming and camera made it more frustrating than fun . But then I played Ninja Gaiden II which in a strange way is even worse and yet I somehow improved on my skills . Sure I'm a long way off from Master Ninja but that's kind of the addicting factor and where the fun comes with Ninja Gaiden : the long trek to finally be good is worth it when you're slicing enemies left and right . Story : You play ( mainly ) as Ryu , a ninja in the Hayabusa clan . But when the village's sword is stolen , the maiden slain and you knocked out by the evil Doku , it's up to Ryu to get revenge and get the Dark Dragon Sword back . Occasionally you'll meet up with / play as Rachel , a well-endowed female with a big axe who's searching for her twin sister , Alma . The story at times is convoluted and a bit too familiar and I can just imagine the MIDI music playing during a text-cutscene whenever I read this story like in the old days but it works well enough though I wish there was more diverse environments . Graphics : The game is a remake of a remake since the original Ninja Gaiden was released on the Xbox and then an enhanced version was released a year later ( ! ) called Ninja Gaiden Black . This is basically the same but it's been HD'd . The character and enemy animations are smoother and crisper and the fluidity is constant . During cutscenes , everything's quite stylish though the more advanced looking cutscenes suffer from that frequent Team Ninja problem of having shiny , plastic-y looking characters . Only main problem is the backgrounds which , except for the first few chapters which look awesome ( the first chapter , with falling leaves and colorful scenery is quite nice ) , are bland and there's the occasional screen tearing and Now Loading screens during exploration , combat and even opening up a chest despite the optional install . It feels like more time could've been used to make it seamless but having the game load just so you can open a chest just seems strange . Sound / Music : The music's rather inconsistent at times since some works like the more ambient stuff such as a Phendrana Drifts-esque piece from Metroid Prime during an ice level but then occasionally it hits us with turgid rock or bass-and-drums music with some electronica flourishes and it's like ugh . Also , the voice acting at times is rather flat and 1996 - ish in its delivery since it's either melodramatic to the point of distracting or it's so wooden , it's like they just said their lines and be done with it . That's why I love when developers add the option to switch to Japanese w / English subtitles , makes it that much cooler . Odd how Ayane went from a young-sounding girl to a woman though . Gameplay : One issue I had with Ninja Gaiden II was that there was frequently parts that were almost put into the game because they sounded like fun but they didn't bother testing if it'll work . The original however is nearly flawless and aside from occasional platforming woes where Ryu misses his jump , doesn't climb up a ledge or camera goes out of control , the game never feels like okay , seriously , what the hell's with this part ? Sure they'll add rocket launching baddies at you but they're more easier to evade than the 10 - rocket firing punks from NG2 . Sigma ultimately strikes that perfect balance between a difficult game by bad design and difficult that requires skill . Oh and you need to be skilled and fast because enemies right in the first level show no hesitation to cut you down . In fact I was surprised how much they kept running after me in this one whereas the sequel sometimes they'd stand still for a moment . While combos are built on combinations of button presses with the occasional direction input , the fluidity and just sheer fun of the combat is why these games are so highly regarded and why I consider it a funner combat system than the overrated God of War games and the so-so Devil May Cry ones . Blocking , evade and counterattacks are must and knowing the best moves are essential if you're going to get the most out of this . Speaking of which , best to learn the technique known as an on-landing charge , it's incredibly effective . The big addition to the game is Rachel , a HEAVY-ily buxomed babe with a giant hammer who you play as in a couple of chapters . While I got used to her and could actually hold my own , she's more of a tank character , dishing big damage in small bursts but she's more slower and her combos don't really have the satisfying punch that Ryu's does . Other weird design choice is that you can find different hairstyles for her to wear . Not a bad game design idea mind you just . . . odd . If there is any woes with the game is that the camera is as usual , a little annoyance but not to the point NG2 ' s camera was , the bane of all cameras right up there with Dino Crisis 3 . Many times I had to re-adjust it in battle and in the heat of things , last thing you want to do is figure out where everybody is by just rotating the thing . Another issue is the platforming sections since they're a bit uneven and more than once did Ryu plummet to the bottom and have to repeat an entire section because he wallrunned up a wall rather than across it . While the difficulty can be initially off-putting and the platforming sections are nightmares , the fighting and flying across the screen to lop heads off is oh-so-satisfying and makes for one of the funnest and beautiful action titles on the Playstation 3 . . . just watch your yelling and controller-throwing tendencies on this one .

      • 221 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) One of the greatest games of all time . Has strategy , difficulty , graphics and is fun . I love a game that is challenging but not cheap or tough for the wrong reasons . In other words , I like a game that Is hard because I messed up , not because the game didn't respond right or was cheap . This game is definitely that . I like that it is a challenge so when I played it today after years of having it , I can enjoy it instead of just running through it . It is definitely an all time classic . Much better than #2 from the feel of it . I didn't even bother to buy that one even though I have almost every game known to man . Bit of a turnoff too that the sigma version for #2 wasn't much different . Not here though . The graphics are the best of any version and so is the gameplay . You get some cool additions and the level design and battles are true classics . This is the version to get and at 17 dollars , it is a must buy that you will be playing 10 years from now along with the Metal Gear Series , saying Wow , they don't make em like this anymore ! A true classic in the spirit of old school games with a high difficulty ( It will ask you if you want to abandon the way of the ninja and let you play in very easy mode if you keep dying ) that is rewarding to plod through . The only game of this generation and this style that can compete with NGS is Devil May Cry 4 , which is very cool but a much different spirit of rebellion and not as serious . Plus NINJAS ARE AWESOME ! The main Character RYU's suit you change into after the first round actually reminds me of a Metal Gear Solid outfit . The enemies would look at home in MGS as well , SOCOM Type pistols included . VERY COOL ! Anyway , I hope you like this game and I'd recommend it ( only for mature adults - NO KIDS please ! ! ! ! ) to anyone who likes a challenge and is a true fan of gaming , a hardcore gamer , a fan of japanese style games , or anyone who wants a game that will still be worth playing 10 years down the road . Good luck and God bless ! - Anjiel

      • 265 4  This review is from : Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( Video Game ) Poor controls , poor camera and cheap enemy AI combine to make a game that's mostly unfun to play .
