Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
Mirror's Edge is an unique game , and I like unique games . It's always difficult for publishers to come up with a new idea and make it into a game that works , but with Mirror's Edge , EA / Dice seem to have managed it .
The basic premise is simple - you're Faith - a runner . In a city run like a police nation , runners take sensitive packages and deliver them via alternative means . In this case a highly athletic form of street running , or parkour . Each mission is an A to B affair but you have at your disposal the entire urban landscape from the bottoms of the sewers to the tops of the skyscrapers . Run , duck , slide , swing , wall-run , hop , skip and jump your way around obstacles that would , in any other game , be unpassable .
The majority of the game takes place well above street level , hopping from building top to building top , balancing on crane arms , and working your way around air conditioning units , pipes , construction materials and the other detritus you'd find on the top of any modern building today .
Gameplay .
Mirror's Edge is not only unique in it's idea , it's unique in it's presentation because it's a first-person game . You see through Faith's eyes , which means you see hands and feet , and unless you're in front of a mirror , nothing else . This is one of the game's strengths . Trying to use a third-person view just wouldn't work ( as it doesn't work in Metal Gear ) . From a first-person view , you get a proper sense of speed and depth . As you run to slide under a pipe , you'll find yourself ducking in your chair . And if you've got a touch of vertigo , it wouldn't pay you to stand on the edge of a building and look down in Mirror's Edge - the effect is very convincing . The controls are pretty simple - run with the left stick , look with the right stick , and jump and duck . In addition there are basic combat controls to kick and interact with other objects , as well as a slow-motion effect for those hairy moments . You build up the ability to use slow motion by the amount of ' flow ' you have . Flow isn't something with an on-screen meter , it's just a natural sense of making progress . If you stop before climbing every wall , and go everywhere at walking pace , you're not really making progress . But wall-run and then jump on to a roof , hop over to an A / C unit then drop off and slide under some pipes - that's a nice , flowing style of getting from A to B . Although when you first pick up the game , you'll be tripping over everything in sight and smacking your head on low-hanging objects all the time .
The game does mix it up a little with occasional encounters with ' Blues ' - the police . You have some basic slide , jump and kick skills that can be used to attack them or disarm them but it becomes obvious that more time was spent in the control of Faith as a runner than as a fighter , as the sparse fight scenes are awkward to contend with and you'll often find yourself doing them over and over again just to try and get past the police . In some cases , you don't need to engage them though , so hop up on a container , jump over their heads and get away .
As well as all the rooftop acrobatics , there are many levels set indoors from the cavernous underground water tank in the first couple of levels ( think the underground ice store in the film Total Recall ) to the frantic subway chase which has you both dodging oncoming subway trains and riding their roofs whilst dodging rail tunnel infrastructure and jumping from train to train .
The game is short - 9 sprawling levels in all plus a training level - but it's exciting and fun to play and you'll find yourself going back and trying to better yourself on the levels you've already done . Having said that , the levels do get incrementally harder as you go through the game , and whilst the run / jump / slide gameplay might seem repetitve , there is always more than one way to get through a level . Crawl through the ductwork , or run through the office itself ? Up to you .
You can choose to use ' Runner Vision ' in the easier game modes which will highlight objects in red as you approach them to hint at the direction you should go and what objects can be used to achieve your goals . For example pipes light up red to indicate you should probably climb them , but as I said above , there are other ways of completing every task .
There's also trophies to be earned in Mirror's Edge , which is an added incentive to go back and do better . The tropies are nicely balanced between bronze , silver and gold . For example the easiest trophy is the bronze for just finishing the training level , whilst some of the harder silver ones require strings of moves to be assembled , such as wall-run to jump-tuck to slide .
Graphics .
The graphics in Mirror's Edge are excellent . The developers have created a unique art style which is mostly white with very pure colours here and there . It sounds dull , but it looks absolutely amazing when you play it . Your point of focus changes depending on whether you're looking at things up close or far away , and when you get up a lick of speed , there are motion blur effects that are added to the scene in a subtle enough fashion to not destroy the look and feel of the game . The usual sun flare and whiteout effects are present if you look the right way , and if you look down the cavernous canyons between the buildings , you can see people going about their daily lives as well as the occasional police cars parked up looking for you . The lighting and texture work is top notch with bump maps and reflections everywhere you'd expect them to be . Shadows are relatively well drawn too . The modelling of the levels is very very good and so far I have not noticed any popup in the game . That is to say , objects change detail or appear so subtly that your eye is never drawn to them . It's also worth pointing out the ' falling to your death ' effect . Rather than simply understanding that if you walk off a tall building , you're dead , Mirror's Edge prefers to show you the ride all the way down to the pavement . As you speed up , the screen becomes more and more distorted until it suddenly goes black with a sickening accompanying sound effect . Whilst on your way to becoming a ketchup pancake , you still have full control , so if you really want to , you can pivot in the air and look at the rapidly approaching ground . But I wouldn't recommend it .
A final note on the graphics - read the signs on the fences before you jump over them , or at least get used to what they look like . Your first encounter with a high voltage fence will teach you that lesson quickly .
Sound .
There's a lot of breathing and panting in Mirror's Edge , as you'd expect from a game which is mostly concerned with running like hell . Other than that the environmental sounds are excellent . As you cross the rooftops , the background noise of a normal city is all around , from aircraft and helicopters overhead to the streets below and everything in between . Chain-link fences rattle when you jump over them . Steam vents hiss as you pass them . Bullets zing past and ricochet off walls if you're being shot at . Everything is properly in its place . The subway levels are made all the more nerve wracking by the sound of the train cars , and especially the train horn if you get too close . More than once , the horn took me so much by surprise that I fumbled a move and ended up as a hood ornament .
The music is very ambient for the most part . A lilting background accompaniment to your superhuman feats of dexterity . But it does change at the appropriate times . As you're getting close to an encounter with the police , for example , it starts to become a little more menacing , to ramp up the tension . And when you get in to a full-on foot chase over the rooftops and through office buildings , the music changes completely to an excellent run-for-your-life soundtrack , very similar to the style in the cult film Run Lola Run . The music in this mode alone is enough to stop you turning around to see how close behind you the police are .
Overall .
I wanted to take a star off my rating for this because of the somewhat clumsy fight mechanics . But the more I play the game , the more I can forgive that element of it because everything else works so well . From jumping over wire fences , to sliding down zip lines , to hopping over subway turnstiles and sliding under closing doors . If you're not sure , download the demo from the Playstation Store first - it's free and you'll get a feel for the game dynamics . I like it . 5 stars .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
This game is also made by the Battlefield team , so be assured the controls are spot on . Normally they love to shoot and blow up every thing . This time around ; instead of going head on , they want us to run away . You even get trophies for not killing and not for getting shot . This is coming from DICE : ) .
The game is fast first person platformer . A fresh new adaptation of true and tried platforming . Rather than moving slowly and timing the jump from the edge . Speed is what counts here . You need to be moving at a constant speed to kick open doors , catch a drop wire etc . etc . Every thing is setup for constant nonstop movement . The level designs are so perfect ; once you get hang of controls there is no need to stop . The game takes you through roof tops , A / C vents , malls , office walk ways and lots of other varied setups . At every stage there are multiple paths to move forward . There is a lot of freedom and it is tied well with risks . As with Battlefield risk reward balance is impeccable throughout the game .
The character is not a military marksmen . Neither are the enemies . They are just guards patrolling the building . So don't expect a epic gun battles . She is a fast and cute runner , so just run run . Don't waste time in gun battles . Your aim is to reach the check point not clearing the enemies . The game controls are very easy to pick up , yet very satisfying . I liked the time travel mode much more than the main game , mainly for the sense of accomplishment .
The game will take easily 10 hours to finish in the first run . I read reviews about 7 hrs , they must be super humans . Some of the latter levels do require you to try a few times . The real challenge comes in finishing the game without shooting any one . The main character can disarm , kick the guards un-conscious . If you really want to shoot them you can do it too . There is no penalties for shooting guards , you can't carry weapons while moving fast .
Audio is spot on . The art direction depicts the totalitarian regime . Every thing is cut out from a single template like old communism . It is a nice breath of fresh air . If you are tired of post apocalyptic burnt and brown backgrounds , join the party . The character models and physics are very impressive . Every thing moves as you expect them to .
It may take some time to get a handle on the game . Once you pickup the controls and nail jumps it is very addictive .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
Back when I first bought a Playstation 3 , I played a game called Assassin's Creed which everyone before its release was hailing as a true next-gen action title . Only when it came out , people found it very repetitive , glitchy and even chore-like where you felt compelled to finish it but not necessarily falling in love with it either . Mirror's Edge is not quite there but it's still one of those titles where the more I want to love , the more the gameplay annoys me , the story is just uninteresting or certain mechanics don't feel well as it should . It's like other games where the uniqueness of the whole experience overshadows any faults the game has and while I do feel like I want to play it when it's not on , the more the faults just keep coming .
Story : In a totalitarian future , the world isn't dark , grey and dingey Blade Runner-esque but rather it's lifeless , sterile and looks almost boring . With the government controlling information flow and with its own degree of corruption , found along the city's rooftops are runners , messengers / couriers with vital information and packages that they hand off to other runners . But when runner Faith finds her twin sister accused of a murder she didn't commit and a clue is found at the scene , Faith has to get to the bottom of it all , and running like hell .
Graphics : Whatever your thoughts on the game , there's no denying the game does have a sense of style . Largely in whites with the occasional bit of colour , it's definately a feat to have bland look great . The entire game is from Faith's point of view so unlike Gordon Freeman who seemed to float up ladders , Faith's entire body will be seen such as when you drop kick , climb ladders , do rolls and whatnot . It really helps the immersion factor and makes the game stand out on its own visually . What might turn people off is the cutscenes which look like a cross between the cutscenes from Killer 7 and a more rounded version of Samurai Jack . While they look fine , the tone of realism and cartoony might seem a bit too disconnected .
Sound / Music : The game's anchored by Still Alive ( no not Glados ' song from Portal ) and that sets the tone for the rest of the music , a kind of electronical ambience . That is when there's actual music since most of it is actually just the city itself from car horns to engine sounds , the sound and music work quite well . Ditto for the voice acting with roles that aren't really standouts but the line readings aren't cheesy or melodramatic and it's nice to actually see a main character in an FPS do more than say a one-liner now and then ( Master Chief , anyone ? )
Gameplay : The game is a unique FP . . . um , there is shooting elements but it's more of a first-person platformer with Faith jumping over fences and low obstacles or sliding under them baseball-style with the feet right in front of her , which is perfect for low kicks on enemies . Controls take some getting used to but essentially it's up controls such as jumping or climbing up ledges ( L1 ) , down controls such as rolling from long falls or sliding under obstacles ( L2 ) , a quick turn-around uses for quick getaways or doing wall-runs to higher places ( R1 ) and R2 which handles your kicking and punching . While it's different than X being jump , square being attack etc , it's remarkably intuitive .
But then comes the crux of the game's problems : interacting with the world itself . I will say this : when the game's on , it's ON with Faith doing so much acrobatic manuevers , you'd be hard-pressed not to look back and what you did and go holy crap , I actually pulled all that off ? However this also comes with more frequent moments of missed jumps , ledges that should've been grabbed but Faith's hands just stay at their sides or trying to do one move only she doesn't seem to want to actually do that move . Yes it's fun when it gets going and I don't mind challenges but most of this game seems like you're trying to work around the game's control flaws rather than you just being a bad player .
Enemy encounters will also be here and one way to deal with them is to , of course run , but on occasions you will have to fight some and pressing square triggers a Reaction time which is basically just bullet-time and helps with nailing the enemies with a drop kick or disarming them . However , sometimes the animation doesn't even register your move even when the gun is ready to be disarmed and making an enemy stagger doesn't allow a disarm either . So instead of getting rid of his gun when he's all winded , I have to wait for him to try to hit me before I can access the disarming part ? Boo . While there is some gunplay , it's a lot more challenging to not fire a single bullet ( and there's even a trophy / achievement for it ) .
One thing I should mention is that yes the game is short , depending on how quick you can get through the levels without constantly hearing your bones break underneath you but it's near 6 - 9 hours for the 9 chapters but with time trials and ghosts ( characters entirely in red doing one route which you try to meet or best ) , there is a great replay value to shaving seconds off your time but as for the main story , it's not super long but doesn't really wear out its welcome either .
If it sounds like I'm being too negative then sorry but I know most people will automatically find this unhelpful and that my gripes are me just being a bad player or that I don't appreciate the uniqueness of it all but sometimes , a game with flaws is a game with flaws and Mirror's Edge has em , as much as I want to say it didn't .
006 4 Back when I first bought a Playstation 3 , I played a game called Assassin's Creed which everyone before its release was hailing as a true next-gen action title .
Boo . Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
Since I fist saw the promo video , this game caught my attention . Dice was kind enough to supply a Demo version a couple of weeks ago , and I really enjoyed playing it . I left me wanted more , so I went out and picked up the game . ( Nice work advertising ! ) Plus , the soundtrack really helped .
If you tried the demo and are looking for reviews to decide whether or not to buy it , I hope this review helps you out . The game itself feels different form anything you've played before , its fast , its fun and it runs smooth . It is definitely worth a try and I'm sure that most of you will enjoy the first hours of campaign gameplay . Controls are extremely simple , so its basically run and find the fastest path available from point A to B . You'll encounter enemies down the road but most of the time you'll just run away from them . The game actually rewards you if you don't use a gun at all . Be prepared to be patient , for it takes a while to master the controls , with a lot of trial and error to it , probably too much for my taste . After a while though , you get the feel that you are playing recycled levels and it all becomes too repetitive . Indoor levels are not as fun as jumping from building to building , and you spend at least 50% on the game inside .
Granted , it has a weak plot and voice acting , but I think it doesn't really matter , since you are just trying to find an excuse to jump from building to building as fast as possible .
Multiplayer is challenging , yo have several maps and you can either compete against your own ghost , or different player's ghosts . Although , some of the record times accomplished by some top players are insane .
Why three stars ? Even though I enjoyed playing the game , i believe it has a high price tag for what your getting . Its enjoyable , but is it really worth 60 ? Not to me .
The game however , brings an interesting concept that I would love to see applied to different FPS's titles in the future . I went back to play Resistance after I played this one , and i tried to jump a staircase just as I did in Mirror's edge accidentally . Of course nothing happened and I had to go down the stairs as in every other FPS game . Wouldn't it be great if you could move through levels as freely as you do it in Mirror's Edge ? just a thought .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
Mirror's Edge is the first immersive game experience that can truly capture the high-speed acrobatics of Parkour and fuse it with an action game that , in defiance of years of shooters , actually demands that you think of your own survival first . The beauty of it is that there are times when you start thinking like a Runner and suddenly you're doing combination moves that you figured out an instant before you pulled them off : the acrobatics are fluid and seamless and the environment does a good job of guiding you by sparse colors that light the next object you need in neon red .
The downside is that when it doesn't work , it can be very , very frustrating . Sometimes the combination you need to work to get out of somewhere isn't obvious , or worse yet , it's extremely hard . You may land on a surface , only to have Faith keep moving and slide off the other side , unable to backpedal under the impetus of your jump . And of course there are also duh moments where the wall-run button being the same as the jump button means if you're not spot-on , she does the wrong thing , and away you go into space .
Which is the scary part : knuckle-biting adrenaline moments where you just sealed your doom play out all the way to the crunch of hitting the pavement . Being shot to pieces leaves you with a slow-mo falling sensation that will give you amusement-park vertigo and near-death-experience chills . I put this down to simple oops mistakes , but one larger complaint that looms is that you are a skinny twenty-something in a roomful of heavily armored SWAT and police soldiers , some of whom are carrying belt-fed miniguns . You are supposed to get a reward for making it all the way through the game without killing anyone , and I find it extremely unlikely , especially on the last level , that this is possible to do . Even more so , you get a trophy if you can avoid getting shot - - I simply do not believe that is possible .
This game has been agony and ecstasy for me , and when I beat it I felt exhilarated . If you are a high-energy gamer who has the patience to try and try again , you will find yourself rewarded . If not , you should know ahead of time that there's no cathartic blasting your way out of trouble in this game . Mirror's Edge marks the beginning of a new genre : the First-Person Runner .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
Many games have different difficulty levels . In this game , the difficulty levels only affect fighting . It would be a much better game if it weren't so incredibly hard in some places . Having to repeat the same wall-run over and over and over and over gets more than tedius . If they made an Easy difficulty where wall-runs , balancing , and other difficult moves were a little bit more forgiving it would move change my fun rating from 3 stars to 5 .
Also , there need to be more frequent autosave checkpoints . When I inevitably die after * just * missing that jump it is maddening how far back it always starts and how I have to do the same difficult sequence over and over again . Tedium .
Having said all that , it is still a visually delightful , interesting , and different game that I will continue to play , despite its flaws . For gamers looking for something different that the typical war game shoot-em-up this is definitely worth a try . Overall I gave it 4 stars .

Simply put , Mirror's edge is on the best games I've played for one simple reason , character movement . No game , and I mean no game , does your character move better than in Mirror's Edge . Those trailers and videos you might have seen and you said no way that's in game gameplay , it is , all of it . I do agree that some people may not like it . Here are the pros and cons .
Pros :
- Amazing free flowing character movement
- Controls are fantastic , no stiffness
- Sharp art design , excellent use of color contrast
- Fantastic ambient music
- Excellent sense of immersion ( panting , head-bobbing , momentum , etc . . . you are the character )
- Variety of locales in the city
- Cool menu presentation
- Great sense of speed and momentum
- The light puzzles can be a bit confusing at first but are rewarding
Cons :
- While combat looks really cool and works most of the time , there are 2 problems ;
some disarms are a bit too difficult b / c the timing has to be exact , also you should be able disarm right after you do a strike attack , but instead you have to wait for the disarm animation to come up again .
- While graphics are generally sharp and art design is great , there are some aliasing and screen tearing issues .
- Story mode could be a bit longer ( but that being said , you will definitely play through these levels over and over b / c they are so much fun to play and you will keep refining you smoothness , and of course , the time trials with online leaderboards ; as a review on 1up.com said , this is THE speed run game )
- I'm not really digging the animation of the cutscenes , the psudo-cartoon style doesn't work as well as full motion capture would have , I think
Press reviews have been all over the place for this game , but I am definitely on the side of loving this game . There is no game that provides so much sheer enjoyment and satisfaction . I'm already excited for the next one .

Fun game . I wish it didn't call for fast reaction time ( chases ) simultaneously with problem solving brainwork . How is it possible to run through the game with timing objectives and work through rooftop mazes and puzzles at the same time ?

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
I'm going to come right out and say it , Mirror's Edge is innovative , yet flawed . The genre of first person platforming is one that has barley been touched at all , especially in an era of games that emphasis shooting like John Woo , and Micheal Bay-esq explosions .
Jumping seems like such a foriegn concept to most games today , but ME keeps it fun and simple . For controls , one button is assigned for any upward movement ( jumping , climbing , etc ) and one button is set for downward movements ( slidding , skidding , ducking ) . The premise is simple : in a world where the 1st Amendment is gone , and news is super censored , one woman ( named Faith ) must clear her sisters name by finding out who is the infamous cop killer . In Faith's world of corrupt politics and information , you have to find out the truth by city jumping . ME puts you even more in Faith's eyes when you see her arms pumping while sprinting , feet flailing in mid jump , and air rushing by Faith's ears . Small details go a long way into player inclusion .
The cities colour palate consistes of a small , but symbolic , set colours . Bright and vivid reds , oranges , whites , blues and greens fill the city up with life . Set pieces are grand and memorable also . Wether you're sprinting through the sewers , empty offices , roofs or elevator shafts , the sets are extremly detailed . You can admire the detail up close while constantly spatter yourself on the wall to . ME focus ' on fast paced momentum , but the paths often branch off , giving you one correct path , and 4 wrong ones . ME uses red objectes illustrate the correct path to travel , too bad the red objects only show up when the path is blatently obvious , leaving most of the game to be a frustrated frenzy of trial and error . This becomes an all to common occurance , escpecially once the dead ends result in Faith getting shot , splattering on the pavement , or the player becoming extremly annoyed .
Even better yet ( sarcasm ) is when the seemingly right path takes you to an awkward combat encounter . Combat is a simple but tricky disarment . Simple as in one button to flip the bad guys over . Tricky as in getting 1 / 4 a second to do so . Even in the slo-motion mode , one simple mistake equals death and restarting over . Gun combat is even more harsh . Once you take a gun , it becomes a cumbersome piece of metal that cant hit any target unless up close . Even then , it still takes half a clip to kill someone .
ME has good intentions , but I cant help but to think that DICE found a cool concept , and shelved it prematurly . When you know the right path , ME delievers a great experience that I havent see before . If you go slightly off track , or run into a dead end / police , there is no experience as frustrating as ME

I love this game ! The graphics , the sound , the feel and first person viewpoint make this the single most immersive video game I have ever played . Unfortunately , the game itself is rather short in comparison to some others - - even shorter if you're better at it . You will have to enjoy replaying certain levels to and time trials really get the most entertainment time out of it . Still , I do not regret purchasing this game .
I recommend playing the demo first to see if you enjoy the style and feel of it .

I loved this game right here . It's so fast paced and everything . Jumping from rooftop to rooftop , wall running , swinging from pipes , flag poles to other ones and just basically flying without wings , cause that's what it feel like to me when playing this game and jumping over huge gaps to other rooftops . It's just an awesome game that I would definately recommend .

I picked up this game thinking it wasn't going to be so good but just to give it a try . I ended up liking not loving this game . The environment is alittle dull except the bright orange / red things you unitize to get through the game . Some stuff gets repetitive and annoying but it does give you a challenge . Be prepared to die a lot . You'll be using the top 4 buttons and the joystick the most . The shooting isn't good and the combat can be better . The graphics are average nothing amazing and the sound is pretty decent . For the price it's listing for now , I'll say give it a shot . It's something different and it's worth adding to your collection .

A lot of folks criticize this game because it isn't an open world . I guess I agree . Some people criticize it because you are forced down a single path . I probably agree with this too . Many feel that the game is too short . Again , I agree .
However , compared to the other PS3 games available I would take this one over just about everything else I have played . FPS is old and too heavily used . The idea of a first person platform game is brand new . When I first played the game , I couldn't believe how well it had been put into place . The concept is so well done that it will give you vertigo and cold sweats . Now add rich , detailed , 720p graphics . I would bet that every first-time player just stares ( with jaw dropped ) at the city scape for a while . The gameplay is good too . The developers managed to really get the feel of the Parkour movement . Even though you are forced down a single path , there are many ways to skin that path . In the most difficult mode I find the combat AI to be fun . Especially when you avoid using firearms .
I found information on the the sequel . Evidently , a level editor is planned for ME2 . I think that's the next best thing to the SDK . Can you imagine having 100s of user designed chapters to play !
I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a game this much !

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
If I were to review Mirror's Edge ( ME ) based solely on originality I would give it 5 - Stars . Though after finishing the game the hard truths that often follow innovation are all to apparent . ME is a decent game with a new and fresh presentation and even ( gasp ! ) a message . Though a wafer thin combat element and sometimes sloppy controls keep the game from getting a higher rating from me .
Mirror's Edge is set in a near utopian future . Crime , poverty and other plagues have been all but eliminated - although with a cost . The freedoms that people enjoyed have been abandoned and a totalitarian big brother has an iron grip on all but a few fringe segments of society . Those that oppose the powers that be communicate through Runners - a group of disenfranchised youth that scale skyscrapers and stay off the beaten path . In Mirror's Edge you'll control Faith a runner on the mend who suddenly finds herself fighting to free her sister who was framed for murder . Those familiar with Parkour a.k.a . the art of moving will be right at home with ME . For everyone else think of ME as urban running . Instead of using the streets though , urban runners use the environment around them to find the most efficient path over , under and through the cityscape .
The graphics in Mirror's Edge are clean and efficient though sterile . Although you'll spend the majority your time in and urban setting you never really feel it's believable . The developer , DICE , certainly wanted to convey a sense of sterilization and uniformity in the environment . The use of bleach-white in almost every element of the cityscape is evidence of that . Contrast that with limited areas where bright reds , oranges , blues and greens are used . Unfortunately this sterile environment is what you'll be spending your time looking at . Dull rooftops and cinderblock interiors make up the majority of the game .
Gameplay is where things are interesting . Think First-Person-Shooter without the emphasis on shooting and instead on running . You'll use L1 for jumping and L2 for ducking / sliding . That coupled with your forward momentum will be 90% of the game - running , jumping and sliding . There are enemies and they are armed . Faith has basic melee combat abilities and can instantly disarm and cripple the Blues ( police ) as they're referred to in the game by carefully timing a button press . You'll also be able to pick up the guns the police drop and use them against your pursuers . Though it's here that ME really stumbles . Clearly the emphasis of the development went to running and not to the combat . Though you can melee enemies it's more of a single button mashing affair . Disarming enemies is based on timing and though you're given the ability to slow-down time - call it heightened awareness a.k.a bullet-time - disarming enemies is often hit-or-miss . Using guns against enemies is unsatisfying for a few reasons . First the weapons are dull and inaccurate . Secondly , enemies take a ridiculous amount of bullets to kill . If I had to use a phrase to describe the combat in ME it would have to be tacked-on .
The music is thankfully very pleasant and understated and I actually found it a highlight of the game . After you finish the game you'll unlock the ability to listen to the entire tracklist through the extras menu which is a nice bonus .
The main story in Mirror's Edge is short - probably 6 - 8 hours . The game does feature several options to keep playing including speed runs and time trials . Speed runs are all about beating an entire level within a time limit . Time Trails feature parts of levels with checkpoints spread along the way . You can upload your own times and compare against your friends and the rest of the world . Other than that the game features 3 difficulty levels and related trophies for beating the game on different settings .
It would take a really terrible game for me to suggest avoiding it altogether and ME is definitely not a terrible game . Still ME is best left a rental than a purchase in my opinion . Good for a run through and for the experience but not something to add to the game library .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
The game is awsome . Basically you defy gravity by jumping from building to building and running from the cops while trying to solve a murder your sister has been framed for . The interface is easy to learn and you get into the game play within a few minutes . The game is part action adventure and part puzzle solver although the puzzle solver part is maybe only 10% of the game . The puzzles are more of where and how to go to reach you objective rather than actual puzzles . I would recommend the game to anyone looking for a crazy twist on a first person shooter , minus the gun . Wild !

The game is really cool looking and really fun to play , but it gets somewhat tedious by about . . . the 4th chapter . Honestly , you do the same thing you did in the earlier chapters but the jumps and leaps get progressively more difficult . I like the pace of the game and the stylistic approach . Definitely worth buying if you want nice visuals .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
+ Pros :
+ Unique first-person gameplay
+ Earnable trophies
+ Online competition
+ Unlockable content
- Cons :
- Repetitive levels
- Flawed combat system
I knew the fastest route to the exit was already laid out in front of me . As I worked up to my full sprinting speed , I felt my heart pounding faster and faster . I leapt down the staircase and landed with a forward roll , never breaking momentum . I threw my shoulder into the door at the end of the hall , and the lock popped open from the force of my impact . As I escaped , I wondered how people could be afraid of heights . Some see fear , I see challenge . Others see apprehension , I see exhilaration . I'm still alive . . .
Anyone who saw the movie
Casino Royale
remembers the construction site chase sequence - Daniel Craig had to chase down a terrorist who was a master of Parkour : a method of moving from one place to another in the quickest and most efficient ways possible .
In Mirror's Edge , you take the role of Faith - a young roof runner proficient in Parkour . Her sister has been accused of a crime she didn't commit , and you have to clear her name while keeping one step ahead of the Blues ( police ) on your tail . The game is presented in a first-person perspective , designed to fully immerse the player in Faith's world . Whether it's stretching to reach a ledge , going into a landing roll or leaping across a 50 - foot gap between buildings , the player does it all . Unlike other games in a first person perspective , Mirror's Edge offers a view of the player's hands , feet , and even the torso to accurately judge distance , depth and height .
Though the tutorial lessons , we learn the available maneuvers in the game : running , wall climbing , sprinting , sliding under objects , vaulting , soft landings , and most importantly , how to disarm hostiles . Holding a weapon makes Faith move slower , and since time is of the essence , more often than not we find ourselves discarding weapons instead of using them .
The trophy system is well-built for Mirror's Edge . With each level of gameplay and each time trial , trophies are earned . The designers clearly wanted to focus on the running aspects and less on the combat ; evidenced by a trophy awarded when the player completes the game without shooting any enemies . Online leader boards record the fastest run-throughs of each level , and the competition is FIERCE .
Even with all this going for it , Mirror's Edge does have its flaws . If a player isn't right on target with physical attacks or misses the opportunity to disarm a hostile , they are left open to a crushing counterattack . Some pathways are crystal clear , others are not always visible to the naked eye and will require some trial & error to navigate through . After a time , the levels start feeling repetitious , and with only 9 levels to explore , Faith's frenetic pace makes the game feel quite short .
Williams Belle , one of the founders of Parkour , had this to say :
. . . It should not be lost . It has to stay alive ! I do not want to have this experience , and just write it in a book , it would become a dead experience ! I want it to be alive ! I want people to use it , to live it and to experience it .
Well , Mr . Belle , after playing this game , I can say that Parkour is still alive . . . and ready to thrive .
If you look at a construction zone and see an obstacle course , don't be surprised if you find yourself pulled to the Mirror's Edge .

Overall I had a good time with this game . Though short , approx 5 - 7 hours , it was still satisfying .
It was a new style of game , like something I hadn't played in years which was nice ecspecially coming from a company like EA .
I recommend playing the game on easy . At the higher difficulties the guards can be pretty tough ( understatement ) and considering the guards are more of an necessary annoyance then an integral part of the gameplay it doesn't take away from the experience playing it on an easier setting .

I loved Mirror's Edge from the first time I seen the commercial . . . . . And when I got the game I was blown away by the graphics , the story and the fun factor actually had me want to earn all the trophies . . . . . If you get this game Ihope you don't have any heart conditions because the jumping from building to building will have you on the edge of your seat . . . . . . . 5 out of 5

First off , if you have a Xbox360 or PS3 hooked up to the internet then do yourself a favor and download the demo .
This game is done like most shooters in the 1st person . But this game is primarily not a shooter . DICE decided to change it up a little and actually make a game in 1st person mode that required more than just killing things .
You play as a ' runner ' and I'll just leave it at that as I hate divulging too much plot . The aim is basically to get from point A to B as fast as you can . The game eases you in slowly and as you play more you realize that there are multiple ways to get places and to handle enemies .
Overall the game is solid . Looks good , plays good , sounds good . The main complaints would be the graphics , not that they are bad but the setting sometimes look sparse and lifeless . Also the game is short , mabybe 6 - 8 hours . There is ' time trial ' option for a little longevity but no online means that at 60 bones it is hard to recommend . If you can pick this game up for $30 it would be well worth it .

Anyone else having this problem ? You're playing the video game . You're exploring the world around you searching for hidden items and secret routes . Suddenly , the cops spot you ! You frantically run away looking up and down and sideways for a way to escape . Then gradually , you start feeling a little queezy - - not in the video game , but in real life . You know the kind of feeling you get when you're on a rickety boat out in the hot sun or on a crowded bus stuck in afternoon traffic ? lol . I know . I'm being very specific but with the PS3 emitting so much heat , that's what it really feels like sometimes . I've had this game for months now but can never be able to play it more than about an hour without feeling sick .
The first-person concept of running , jumping , kicking , and screaming ( just kidding ) seems like it would be a great new and refreshing idea for a video game ( and it is ) but the act of just looking up and down or sideways makes me want to vomit ! Unlike traditional first-person shooters , your main objective is to explore . You're not just looking for enemies , you're also looking for passageways and things to grab on to . That means constant camera movement which can cause severe motion sickness . I may be in the minority here as I don't see many reviews mentioning this . Credit DICE to think of it beforehand although the only thing they could think of to combat this motion sickness is a wee-tiny little dot in the middle of the screen - - doesn't work for me .
As far as gameplay , there's just a little something screwy with the physics . Faith is a human being . . . and a little bit more . But not much more . It's kind of hard to realize where to draw the line between realism and fantasy . Just when you thought she couldn't catch that ledge from a standing position , she grabs a hold of it ! Then a routine jump to grab a pipe becomes nearly impossible ! As with games like Ninja Gaiden , they exaggerated Ryu's movements but you knew exactly what he was capable of . You can't quite discern that with Mirror's Edge .
On the other hand , the game is BEAUTIFUL ! The sound effects really immerse you in the game . Bullets whiz by left and right . You can hear Faith's footsteps from a brisk walk to an all out sprint . You can almost feel her heart beating out of her chest as it thumps frantically . And her breathing is so lifelike , it's almost as if she is sitting right next to you . But the reason I bought the game was because of the soundtrack . It's suspenseful , relaxing , and it really helps to set the tone of the moment . I bought the DualShock 3 in hopes that it would further immerse me in the game . That was kind of disappointing as well . It rumbles when you get hit or fall like it's supposed to . But it doesn't rumble during the most important part - - death ! And the motor is a little weak , but that's Sony's issue and not DICE's .
It's funny how DICE and EA have been touted as visionaries leading the way into next-generation gaming . But there is a reason why games like these are better left in the third-person . Of course , without the first-person perspective , Faith becomes just a female Prince of Persia living in a futuristic utopia .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
I am a game lover . My wife and I play games together constantly . We are solid gamers , each of us able to polish off most games on the normal setting pretty easily . We are not spectacular players , we are not honed machines of video game grace . But we play for hours every week and have done so for years , so we are not newbies by any stretch of the imagination ; please take my complaints about this game with that in mind - - if you are a polished videogame diety , then you will have less trouble than we did . If you are a newbie , well then , pay extra attention - - this game's fun quotient ( which is very high at times ) is seriously hampered by its bizarre controls and frustrating requirements .
This is a visually arresting game - - the style is clean and modern , beautiful to look at . It is as if the entire city agreed to a limited but brilliant palette , and keeps everything really clean . The buildings are interesting to look at , and the places that you play through are full of fun things to jump on and over . My wife and I are fascinated by parkour in real life , so finding a beautiful looking game that focuses on parkour made us really happy at first . We also like the style of animation - - very Adult Swim cool . We were a little confused as to why the game animation style varies so greatly from the story animation , but overall that is not a big deal . Both are fun to watch , and the animation is great both directions . The story line is interesting and keeps you moving , even when you are contemplating pulling the disc out of your PS3 and lighitng it on fire . Or kicking the game designers in their collective shins .
So yea , first person parkour was way cool . At first . Then the frustration began . This game is essentially a platformer ( our favorite type of game , we usually rock at these games ) with first person moves . And in all fairness , when things flow , it is really fun . Not quite as fun as moving through the streets for the first time was in Assassin's creed , but close to that fun . You jump from obstacle to obstacle , under pipes , over huge gaps in buildings . . . breathtaking . The downside is you can't see all the cool moves you are getting to do , and that is kind of a shame . You have this superbad character you are playing , but you never really get to see her in action . I'd like to see a replay option in 3rd person as a bonus .
Unfortunately , there are many times when you are under pressure - - either someone is shooting you , or for some other reason you have a time issue . This would not be bad if the game were better at directing you . . . but it sucks at this . Ah ! you exclaim , but that is the beauty of the game ! You must find your own way ! you say . Well , that is a legitimate point , within reason . There have been more than one occasion in which the way forward can only be reached in a single fashion , and the secret is pretty well hidden . That is fine if you aren't getting shot at . . . but if you keep dying because a sniper is shooting you and you don't know where to go . . . and if it happens 10 - 15 times . . . and if you keep getting set back in front of a difficult obstacle you have to conquer first , and that also kills you 10 - 15 times . . . then somewhere the game designers didn't really think about what they were doing . Yes , we got past all of them eventually , but the repetition it took us ( and we are good gamers , mind you ) got really boring and frustrating . After a while it wasn't fun any more , and when a game becomes not fun , then it makes you wonder why you are playing it .
And while I am on the subject of snipers ( and other gun toting baddies in general ) , whoever designed the combat portion of this game deserves to be taken out back and forced to fight like our heroine . Guns are few , far between , non-flashy or exciting to use , have no aiming aid ( a real bummer ) , and are essentially temporary - - you can't store them on your person . And guns are the good part - - your personal ability to fight is there . . . she does have some moves ( nice spin kick ! ) , but executing them in any reasonable fashion against their bad guys is not easy to do , and you die a lot . A lot . A lot . Once more , frustrating , why am I playing this game ?
Also , I have a huge issue with the controls . Some people have complemented DICE on the controls . I say that whoever designed the controls for the PS3 needs to have their head examined . L1 is jump ? The single most frequently used button in the game is L1 ? Really ? Oh , and the second most used control is L2 ? OK , if you are willing to buy into L1 is jump , then L2 as duck makes sense . But I respectfully suggest that allowing some control re-assignment would be better for those of us who are used to X being jump - - because 5000 other games have taught us that x = jump ! And whoever made the virtually useless R1 insta-reverse should be shot with a water gun full of curdled goat milk . Insta reverse is very useful in some jumping situations , but R1 has often been Fire ! or other things in other games , and let me tell you that hitting R1 in a fight can spell your rapid death . Sounds simple . But whatever . In this day and age , there is no excuse for controls that a player doesn't like not being completely reassignable - - or at least having alternative control schemes . Something . My wife and I both think that this was our number one complaint .
Wow , so after reading that , you must think that there is no reason to play this game at all . And you would be wrong , because when the frustrating portions of the game are not bothering you , this game is one of fluid grace , of breathtaking running , jumping climbing excitement . She moves like a dream , when she is allowed to do so , and for those moments when things are going well , it is just magic . Pure magic . I loved those portions .
In the end , I would not buy this game again , knowing what I know . It was tons of fun for a few moments , and then some fun for a lot more moments , but not much fun at all for about half of it . I would consider buying a sequel if the game designer takes some of these complaints into consideration - - and I know that I am not the only one who feels this way - - other reviewers on professional sites have had the same complaints about replaying levels over and over again until they get them right .
So how do you know if it is your cup of tea ? Rent it ! Check out a demo ! If you dig it , don't hesitate to throw down the 60 bones for a really unique experience . But if you have a hard time , then renting is really a better choice . Best of luck !
050 4 I am a game lover .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
This game is hard to love and hard to hate . I loved the unique style of the art in the game . This game employs very cool use of color techniques in the art direction . This adds to what the player sees while moving through the game , but also is true to how the game insinuated that the character has an almost 6th sense for where to go . For example , certain paths are highlighted in a way in which the character ( you ) sees a glowing red door or certain wall paint . This not only looks cool , but also helps point you in the right direction . It can also get confusing sometimes , because many things are left ambiguous and the correct path would make a normal human being think twice about jumping over a chasm so large . Instead , you find yourself falling to your death so many times because you either misjudged a gap or went the wrong way because the correct way seemed obviously ridiculous to attempt . Towards the end of the game , the art direction really pays off and the feeling of the city finally comes alive when they offer a night scene . Too bad there wasn't more of this .
The music is a mix of ambient techno . This works and fits the futuristic , police state setting of the game very well and can be often catchy . If you want it to be , you can relax , enjoy the scenery , and explore around until you get bored . The music picks up and slows down depending on what's happening in the game so it all fits . The other sounds don't really impress so much . You are always linked to some guy telling you information and he chimes in while you are trying to pull off delicate maneuvers or he calls you and starts talking while you are actively engaged with enemies or frantically scurrying around to escape . I hate when games do that ; have conversations when the characters are getting the stuffing kicked out of them . Much of the story comes through this way and you end up missing out on what the heck is going on because someone just told you their life story while you were tight-rope walking over rooftops with machinegun wielding killing machines chasing you .
I also love the genre of the game : a first-person platformer . This is a breath of fresh air from the been-there-done-that shooters that saturate the market . It's similar to what would happen if you blended a Prince of Persia-style game with a 1st person shooter , although there is very little shooting to be done on your part . You are just there to run , jump , and climb around . This is also how the game tends to fail .
You will repeatedly die in this game . Much of this game requires trial and error to get through this . You will fall to your death countless times or the G-Men that never stop coming after you will either corner you and shoot you down when you get stuck finding your way around , or beat you up when you try to take them out up close . So many sections require perfect jumps and cat-like dexterity . The sad part is that the developers of the game seem like they think that falling to your death hundreds of times and staring at a load screen is great fun . It is not . Pulling off the cat-like maneuvers isn't as satisfying as it should be . I was anticipating the game's end which is a first in a long time playing games . It's pretty frustrating .
The combat in the game is nothing like what it tries to be . The game's loading screens display a silhouette of your character disarming and taking these guys out with smooth ninja-like motions . Unfortunately , each time I ran up to a lone enemy , I would have to simply stand there and wait for his gun to turn red before I could press the correct button to snatch it away . After that , the game takes over and dispatches the enemy for you . It sounds simple , but the timing has to be perfect and you have to be standing in the correct position in order to pull it off . It's much easier to run up to a lone guy and mash the L2 button until he falls down .
This game has a tendency to seem very lonely . Sure , you have some guy giving you mission objectives and pieces of story throughout the game and faceless armed killers showing up to gun you down , but you always feel very alone through the whole campaign . The entire game is an obstacle course , but you never bump into or even see anyone else . When you crash through a door an some building , you never see office workers jump up in their cubicles to see what's going on or anybody observing you run through any of the games areas . It would have been nice to include people as another obstacle for you to overcome because it seems to drab otherwise .
Overall , this game was fun , but I had trouble getting addicted to it . Once I beat the story once , I had no real inclination to play through again if it weren't for the time trials and trophies . Even then , I am tempted to shelf the game in favor of something a little more engaging . Because of the low price and the unique style offered here , it is definitely worth a look . I would actually love to see what they might do with a sequel and hopefully see more activity from other people walking around in the city .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
This was a pretty challenging game . I like platformers , but was new to 3D platformers when I picked up this title . I'll admit , I bought it largely out of curiosity . Aside from an enigmatic title and an exotic cover girl , I didn't have a clue what I was getting into .
Fortunately , the controls were simple . The story was great . The levels were very challenging , but seldom frustrating .
I played this game for a few days , making less and less progress every day , mostly because I don't read game-guides . And then when I finally finished , instead of a feeling of accomplishment , I'm disappointed by a lack-luster and abrupt ending . It was such a let-down that I put it on the shelf and forgot about it until today .
The movements are similar to the Uncharted's , Assassin's Creeds , and the new Prince of Persia , but a little trickier and a lot quicker . Playing Mirror's Edge made playing those a lot easier . Think of it as training .
It's actually cheaper to buy this on Amazon than it is to buy it used at GameStop or EB . It's definitely worth the money .

The main campaign story can be easily beaten within 6 hours . That being said , it has A LOT of replay value to it , from time trials , speed runs , and DLC ( downloadable content ) . What keeps me coming back to this game is the the very unique game mechanics and new ways to beat the levels / chapters . Easily in my top 10 favorite games . Try the free demo if your not sure .

If your looking for something different than Mirror's Edge is your game . A great game for a very good price . The action dosent stop . You are what is called a runner . the idea is to run and not kill . each chapter presents different challenges on running , jumping , climbing and disarming the cops .
If you are looking for a good bargin for a game than try Mirrors edge . It took me about a week to finish . Some of the parts I had some trouble with but after trying a bunch of times I did get past .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
This game was awesome . For a first person type of game , this has to be the best in my opinion . The action was fun ; constantly running from cops and learning to think quickly in the process . A setting called Runner's Vision helps you to know where to go by highlighting it red or blue on the walls , very helpful , this comes in handy in the beginning . Once you get used to it you can turn it off and see how you do . I rated it a four for the overall view off the game because the online play is just you trying to beat other people's scores ; i didn't find that to be very fun . I thought you would be able to race against someone else . Besides that , this is an exellent game to play . IF you are a gamer you will finish this in a few days because it is quite short . Also , there's a demo on the Playstaion Network Store , so if your still unsure try that and then choose .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
EA for the past couple years have been stale and boring and not releasing anything really great or innovative . But EA has seems to have turned a new leaf with the past couple releases including Mirror's Edge .
The game is about Faith , a runner in a futuristic totalitarian world were everyone is under surveillance and any opposition to the powers at are quelled .
Faith finds herself part of a murder plot and she goes out to finds out the who's and why's .
Mirror's Edge main attraction is the gameplay as all of it is from a first person view and most of the time the player is running around climbing , jumping , sliding , and flying around than shooting . It's a weird experience to play and would advise people that are susceptible to motion sickness to either take precautions or not play the game .
Controls for the game are pretty easy to get used to so most players should be pulling the basic maneuvers pretty fast .
Graphics are kinda mix bag for me as the textures are nice but not great because everything is white washed , even though it fits the primary color's only future .
Music is pretty good and fits to the game well blending into the background making the player feel like Faith is wearing a MP3 player while running . Plus the theme to the game , Still Alive sung by Lisa Miskovsky , really nice sounding .
The only thing I really found annoying is the story is very simple and short and that the combat is very limited and needs work but overall the game is really good and would like to see a sequel sometime is the future .

Mirror Edge , is an OK game . If you have nothing to do , and no other games to play , then I suggest getting this game . There is not much to it . You just run around trying to get to certain places to move the story along . There is some action , nothing that great . The controls seem a little delayed and messy . I also got a headache after playing for a little while , because of all the moving around . Good thing this is a short game . About 7 to 9 hrs . There are some timed tracks that you unlock and can play afterwards , but I found these boring and too much of a mess to find it entertaining .
There is little to no real great pros to this game for me to list . The cons are almost the entire game for me . I like new ideas and new ways of using a system to bring about a new type of game , but this was not well done to me . Just putting a platform game in first person view doesn't make a game an original , or a great game . There is not much to say , with all these new and great games out and coming out . There is a lot better things to do with your time .

A good game , always running and running , it's very entertainer . Regarding the video , I think this could be better , the colors are a little bit bouring . Regarding to the music I think is one of the best parts , sound effects I will put here normal , at least the sound of the guns are just amazing , always with an echo in every shoot . There are not so much levels , only 10 . The story line , well I don't know , this is a very important issue of the game , need's to be more creative . Overall , it's a good game . Ah and the online gaming , it's a must , always running to bet a record !

Its one of the most original game concepts I have ever seen . It was very fun to play and I am still having fun with it , even after beating the story mode . The speedrun and timetrail aspects add more fun . Trying to find new ways of saving time is so fun . This is a game that will have you hooked and I love the graphics as well . The City inwhich the game is set is really cool . The movements and 1st person view enhance the gaming experience . The story is also very well thought out , I could totally see this becoming a feature film . It was a qualtiy game and I truly recommend it .

This game was very fun in my opinion , you play as Faith who is a Runner they do misc jobs for people like stealing or transporting important items , and avoiding the blue ( cops ) at all costs . This game is very exciting to play you run around jumping from object to object , jumping from rooftops , climbing through buildings / puzzlerooms . Another fun part is you can choose to be a pacifist or straight up killer , the game lets you run up to enemies and take their weapons from them if you have fast enough reaction time and you can take their weapon and shoot their friends , or you can simply dodge their attacks and run away .
Great game overall and has amazing graphics with hottie main character !

This game could have been really fun . But it wasn't quite as fast paced as I was hoping . Still , it was pretty fun a lot of the time .
Some stuff to keep in mind if you're considering buying it :
It's extremely linear . There is almost no exploring to be done . The whole game can be summed up as Get from point A to point B , try not to get shot too much
You can't quit in the middle of a chapter , or you'll have to start from the beginning . They're not that long though , in fact the whole game is really , really short .
You can't heal , you just wait a few seconds to be better again . Fine except that it takes very few hits to kill you .
Almost everything is done with L1 , L2 , R1 , and R2 . Personally found it kind of annoying .
Also , when the end came , I was like Wait , what ? That was it ? Well I don't wanna give it away but yyyeah . The ending song is great though , I loved it !
Okay , I think that's everything .

Mirrors Edge is a fun , innovative , challenging game , that I think all will enjoy . You play as a girl named Faith , who's a runner trying to clear the name of her framed sister . In the game , you see through the eyes of Faith , as you run on rooftops , climbing ladders , scaling edges , shuffling up and down pipes , and beating the crap out of the police . The controls are pretty easy to learn , so you should be able to remember everything you learned to do in the beginning , this game however is a bit too short , but I think the challenge kinda makes up for it . 5 / 5 !

It's a pretty game , very nice to play something from the 1st person POV that has more colors than just brown and grey . Unfortunately , the POV makes the platforming very annoying , since you can't see your feet , and can't see when to jump .

091 4 This game is fantastic ! ! ! Original , fast-paced , action packed and FUN ! ! ! I'm not going into story details but I will say that it certainly feels like a really solid action movie .
I first saw the game when I was hunting for affordable PS3 titles . The cover and pictures looked interesting ( I'm into weird puzzle-like games . . . ala Noby Noby Boy ) . Upon further researching , this was PERFECT for me ! I played the demo and I was hooked . My brother gave it to me as a gift ( also including Red Faction : Guerrilla . . . which F * * * in ' rocks ! ) and that was the beginning of great hours of gameplay . The graphics look better on the game than the demo , the sounds / music are ambient and feels just right , controls are excellent , as for replay value . . . this is where I have to explain . This game is definetly not for everyone . There's no shooting ( if you choose to . . . which is the best choice ) , you have to THINK like a free-runner in order to get from Point A to Point B , and you have to think FAST !
There are several reviews stating the game is short . In escence , it is but I've been playing it in intervals of 1 1 / 2 hours per day , so the game actually feels alot longer . The game feels like Portal . . . you know you are closer to the end but getting there is so much fun ! ! I will definetly replay it on Hard difficulty as soon as I finish it . The game also offers Challenge Mode . This is where the game gets really tough but that just adds to what Faith ( the main character ) can do . Another point are the cutscenes . They look like E-surance commercials . . . LOL . . . but cool enough to get you into the story .
Oh yes . . . if you do not have patience , you will end up throwing the game out the window . You have about 30 seconds to think where , how , and when do you have to act in order to not get killed by a barrage of bullets . This makes the game heartpoundingly fast and exhilarating . . . and don't worry , you get enough checkpoints to not make you repeat everything again .
Overall , I TOTALLY recommend this game . . . especially if you are into puzzles , first person shooters , and action . . . and for only $20 . . . what are you waiting for ? ! ?

This is the future of FP gaming right here . I think we'll see a lot of copycats . First Person is not just for shooting anymore . It's a lot of fun running and jumping in the first person . And this game has some extreme laugh-out-loud-with-exhiliration moments as well ( the subway level is a doozy ) . I bought this for PS3 because PSN offers a free dlc - time trial level . BTW , XBOX Live has a free video of the theme song which is nice . This game is so underrated but I'm frothing at the mouth for a sequel ! ! !

Visually , graphically , and auditorially , the game is awesome BUT . . . the game play itself disproves the definition of insanity . So many times you do the same thing over and over and over and finally it works ? ! ? I love a challenging game but this one is unnecessarily just plain hard . I bought it for my gf because it was different than the same old first person shoot everything in your way type game but she gave up on it before she even finished the tutorial . Her deal not the game's . Any way , if the controls were eased up just a tad bit I think this would be a run-away hit . I have read very similar reviews since buying it so I know I am not the only one who feels this way . Still for a game in the $30 range it is well worth it .

Most of the other reviewers have highlighted what needs to be said about this game .
It is fun to play . Controls are precise and responsive . Graphics are good , but could be a little better . For me , the 5 stars comes from the fact that it is a different concept from everything else out there . It is the first game in a long time that has made me say ' wow ' . I definitely recommend it . Also , there is a downloadable demo of the first level on PS Network . Download it , and make your own decision .

Even with all of the problems with combat in this game , I still love it and admire everything they set out to do with it . The obvious problems are the lackluster combat and the difficulty involved with dealing with enemies when you really want to get back to the fun part of flying around a level . But when you do get to run around freely the game is great . The physical feeling of being Faith is great and it's exhilarating when you're leaping from rooftop to rooftop . The aesthetic of the game is also amazing and cohesive . There's so much subtlety in the use of color and each bold color adds something specific to the game . The controls are great even though I really dislike the unwieldy ps3 thumbsticks . I thought I would get tired of the game after beating the campaign , but I've found the time trials to be pretty addictive , turning the game into what I wanted in the first place . The free ps3 map that came out last week also has me interested because I found playing through that map was even more fun than most of the standard time trial maps . Hopefully the full map pack will push that even more . I really can't wait to see more of what is in store for the Mirror's Edge universe .

Mirror's Edge is a welcome break from the classic First-Person Shooter video game . There are flaws in the game , but you show me one without any .
I truly hope EA does not give up on the potential of this idea . The parkour / free-running element of this game , which basically IS the game , was implemented quite well . The movements feel natural and there is definitely an essence of flow that I've never experienced in any other game . It feels real .
Where the game does come up short is the weapon handling . Granted , your suppose to try NOT to use guns in this game . But when you are sort of forced to use them it can be a pain . Also , the hand-to-hand combat needs some serious work . The flow of the parkour element definitely doesn't enter into the hand-to-hand element , which is a bummer . ( There are animations that play during load screens showing Faith doing some cool take-downs on an officer , but you in-turn cannot do these take-downs in the game . )
Lastly , the game is short . Coming in at about 5 hours for me on the hardest difficulty available out-of-the-box . ( A harder difficulty level is unlocked after one play-through ; this difficulty took even less time since I knew the paths and whatnot . )
The graphics are nice in-game ; a very sharp and different graphic styling . The cut-scene animations resemble eSurance commercials , which was a bit irritating to me . I would have loved to see the cut-scenes just using the in-game models . And , I didn't notice all that much in terms of technical problems like screen-tearing .
Such an innovative game could have been fumbled horribly . EA and Dice got the primary element of this game right , though . The parkour movement is wonderful . Hopefully they create a sequel and let us wall-run , slide , and do leaps of faith in an open world .
I'd recommended renting or borrowing the game , rather than purchasing brand-new . Basically , I'd say it isn't necessarily worth $60 just because of its shortness . Then again difficulty is completely relative to the player .

I was like a lot of people when I started playing this game ; I had played the demo and loved the feeling and flow of it . I ordered it immediately . Many reviewers have already written about the gameplay and the story and I agree ; get from point A to point B as fast as possible . Mirror's Edge isn't an easy game but once you play a few chapters you start to get a feel for the rhythm of the game and find out how you need to think to progress . Once you get the feel for the game , it is still challenging , but in a good way , and it's lots of fun . If you like puzzles you will like figuring out how to progress through certain situations . The physics of the game are dead on . You jump and move when you think you should and I haven't had a problem with falling overly much , ( but it is inevitable that you will fall sometimes ) . It plays just as if you were doing all those moves in real life . The graphics are beautiful . There were many times I wished the blues ( police ) weren't so hot on my trail so I could just walk around and look but that is definitely not what this game is about . Mirror's Edge is unique and really a gem among PS3 games right now . I gave it only 4 stars because it is fairly short . If you want to play something different and have a fun but challenging experience this game is for you . I hope this is the start of a long and successful franchise .

I loved all of the trailers for Mirror's Edge - a truly original game , a nice change from all the FPSs that have been flying around .
I instantly took the game , and got sucked into the gameplay - which is frenetic . Gorgeous graphics , the sound is so atmospheric , and the gameplay is superlative .
The only drawback is its length . I finished the game in only two sittings - perhaps about 6 hours .
Some decent replay value with the time trials .

Overall , this is a good game . To me it is similar to Assassins Creed , jumping rooftops , running up walls , avoiding enemies , etc . The game keeps you entertained throughout , interesting storyline , and good characters .
A few downsides . The game gets a little repetitive . There is so much running and jumping that you rarely have time to look around , because if you do , two shots from the enemy will kill you . The AI is very good , sometimes too good . There are spots that you will replay at least 10 or 20 times to get by since the AI is so agressive , and your lack of armour leaves you very vulnerable . Right now I am on level 6 and my system has already locked up 2 times , probably because there are times that there is so much action going on that PS3 can't process it . But overall , this is a very good game . I'm pretty sure I will play this game multiple times . Plus the trophy unlocks are addicting , you feel like you have to get them all . Enjoy !

Mirror's Edge is THE cutting edge of game design . The gameplay was daring , the setting signature , and the cutscenes not at all boring . I encourage everyone to play this game for the sheer value of trying something new , and here's why . . .
THE PROS
- Stunning gameplay . You play as Faith , a returning Runner . Her sister has been framed for a political murder , and you have to investigate . Faith moves like a phantom over and under obstacles , sliding along ziplines and landing like a cat .
- When you get her adrenaline pumping she can slip into Reaction Time aka Bullet Time . This makes disarming your enemies and dodging bullets much easier . Unlike Bullet Time , such as in Max Payne , Reaction Time only comes available after a series of momentum-oriented activities are completed .
- A flipping good challenge ! This is exactly what I was looking for , something new and interesting . The learning curve isn't too steep either , but the game increases in challenge steadily . You won't be bored .
- Pacifist combat is the way to go . This game doesn't tempt you like Metal Gear Solid 4 by dumping oodles of weapons in your inventory and then offer you a reward for not killing anyone . In fact , you don't have an inventory . The best method in most situations is to dash for your life and seek an out for ever hot pursuit . . . and trust me there are many . If shooting people is your thing , you can definitely do that . Hanging onto weapons is impossible , and you never know how many rounds you are packing . .25 rounds max in a machine gun .
- I am happy that they implemented Runner Vision into this game . On the Normal and Easy settings , the proper routes are highlighted in red . Thankfully EA was intuitive enough to realize how disorienting their game can be and implemented a nice way to track your position .
- The first person view makes this game . On every leap of faith ( and they don't call it that for nothing ) you will hold your breath and hope you don't plummet to your death . Success is infinitely rewarding . As Faith grasps ledges , you see her hands . When she tumbles you roll with her . You see her legs and body as though you yourself were rolling . As your sprints and her biped maneuvers cause you to blink as you question her reality , she feels the pressure and you can hear her tiring . But Faith never stops .
- The intellectual challenge of solving puzzles is also fun . It is not all sprinting across rooftops and sliding down pipes . every so often they will toss in a puzzle in which you need to figure out where the heck you need to go . These also become more challenging as the game progresses , so keep your eyes open .
- This is fundamentally an urban ninja first-person simulator . Everyone was thinking about this the first time they saw it . Parkour artists , such as Faith , are today's super-athlete modern ninjas who live up to the wall-crawling lore better then true historical ninjas .
- The control scheme is quite good . It places a lot of responsibility on the left hand , all of the personal reaction time functions needed , such as jumping and sliding . Once you get used to it though , it will make perfect sense .
- She's quite the cute acrobat . Let's be serious . There are many female gamers that will be pleased to see a woman playing the main role . Plus , Parkour is predominantly a male sport but is slowly diversifying . Faith herself represents the growing popularity of Parkour to a wider audience of able bodies , regardless of sex .
- Transitioning from games like Fallout 3 and Mercenaries 2 in which technology was the overriding source of information , Mirror's Edge forces gamers to use the most low-tech solution to figuring out one's location , the human eye . There are no word maps , not GPS . Just you , Faith , and the rooftops .
- It looks good and sounds great . For those among us who have been spoiled by the gorgeousness of Metal Gear Solid 4 , Mirror's Edge ( and every other game for that matter ) is a downgrade in terms of graphics . Don't get me wrong though , the visuals are a Pro because they are still beautiful . Lighting effects and textures look realistic . It looks as though the designers really took advantage of the Blu-Ray capacity for expansive good looks . When on the rooftops , the view is stunning . . . ongoing . . . surreal .
THE CONS
- Electronic Arts is one of the most disappointing game production companies as of recent . EA has so much money and potential , but they have nosedived in terms of editing sloppy gameplay . They put all of their attention into sports games . . . and even those can be sloppy . . . it is hard to screw up The Sims . Going into this game , I had high expectations , many of which were met . However , I anticipated that EA would be very sloppy with this production , and they were . If you played Mercenaries 2 , you will understand what I mean by sloppy . . . unresponsive controls . . . inaccurate animations . . . they could have done much better .
- The game oftentimes feels imprecise . You will experience a series of flawless vaults and slides when the game suddenly does not connect with what you thought you have done perfectly . . . . and then you fall off of a high place and die . Again , EA was sloppy . They tried to make this game too linear , but the purpose of Parkour is to roam everywhere , to go places where most average people would get owned , but the Parkour artist succeeds .
- To my knowledge this game does not keep a death count , and that is probably a good thing . You will die a lot , especially on your first try , mainly in gun fights . I didn't dislike this because it is part of the challenge . . . one foul-up is game over . This , however , is not good for causal gamers . Casual gamers may struggle with this game for that reason . For those who desire a new and better challenge at every game , a few dozen deaths will not be a problem .
Seriously . . . we all know that sloppy gameplay can negatively affect a game . EA needs to shape up . This was their second opportunity to match the likes of MGS4 and Grand Theft Auto 4 in terms of exquisite gameplay and they FAILED . Please improve . . . you have the potential and the cash to pull off perfection and we want to see you continue beyond mind boggling concepts and produce mind bogglign gameplay .
OVERALL . . .
Mirror's Edge is a fascinating game . It isn't a masterpiece as it should have been , thanks to EA's lazy editing . It is definitely worth checking out . I am pleased with my purchase and will play it in the future . Simply put , there is nothing like it on the market . Assassin's Creed doesn't come close . If you want a truly unique experience , buy or rent this game and play it through at least three times . . . yeah buy it . The first time will give you the story and get you acquainted with the controls . The second run-through will be smooth and enjoyable . On the third run you'll be kicking some serious booty and disarming SWAT soldiers in pristine style .
I'd give this game a 9 / 10 ( unfortunately I can't give 4.5 stars ) . Awesome concept , but the execution could have been better .

I wanted this game for a long time but I kept delaying getting it for a couple reasons .
First , I have very little faith in EA . They release games with the intention of charging you double the purchase price with online content they could have added at release , but planned to release months later with hefty price tags .
Second , Although the gameplay is unique , I wasn't convinced from the demo that the game had replay value .
Well , EA HAS started the online content roll-out , but at least ps3 users did get a free map . Fortunately , the game's unique style is very addictive and I am happy to have grabbed a copy after a couple of price drops so long after release .
Hopefully , I don't have to spend another $30 on downloaded content that clogs up my hard drive in the next few months . . .

Mirror's Edge had the potential to be a great game , but it is flawed and I highly doubt there will be enough support behind the idea of a possible sequel . The presentation , the artwork , the ambient soundrack . . . almost everything about the game is beautiful until you actually start to play through it . It really is sad when productions are rushed and level designers and animators cut corners on projects like Mirror's Edge . The concept was incredible , but the reality is kind of a joke , and this game is truly testament to the fact that some software houses need to spend as much time developing the playability and the engine as they do on the presentation and the cut scenes . This is the kind of game that makes even HDTV owners want to impulsively throw their PS3 controllers at the screen , due to several situations that demand 30 + attempts at making the same jump over and over again . Save your money for other games , or just buy a William Gibson or Neal Stephenson book instead - - it would be a much better value !

Mirror's Edge is a stunning achievement in visuals and movement . It's difficult to classify , but suffice it to say it's a great adventure game tinged with shooting and fighting . The PS3 version supports 720p , and their are times when the graphics look a little bitmapped , but generally the visuals are breathtaking ( I'm playing it on a 40 1080p LCD ) . The color scheme is eye popping ( lots of primary colors and contrasts ) . The camera shake really puts you in Faith's shoes as she's leaping over fences and sliding under pipes . Surprisingly , the constant shaking of the camera doesn't result in any nausea . The only gripe I have is that the controls take some getting used to . It's basically jump and grab with the L1 button , but simetimes the controls feel a little imprecise . I probably just need more practice as it's something new . The story is intriguing and keeps you interested . It's a fairly short game ( about 8 hours or so ) . It supports trophies , which is nice ( I suppose most new PS3 games are doing that now ) . At any rate , Mirror's Edge is a nice diversion from the recent onslaught of FPS shooters .

I really wanted to like this games . I tried and tried .
I've played action games and platformers . I know other folks say that Mirror's Edge is wonderful .
It is beautiful but I just hate this game . Not quite as much as the developers apparently hate me . The game SHOULD have been called fall and die . I do that a lot . Time after time after time . Then there's being in a room with no obvious exit while 10 cops are shooting you dead . You get 7 seconds to find you way out , then your dead again .
If you like frustration , if you play video games to ramp up your stress levels , if you yearn for more arbitrary deadlines with no forgiveness then this is the game for you .
It's just not the game for me . I will be trading it in .
1 star for being no fun , 3 for looks . Average : 2 .

This game is fun , but if a lot of repetition and dying bother you . . . stay away . After spending 40 minutes trying to complete one task , I decided this game must not have been player tested . There are a lot of spots where the physics / programming is awful . You think you nailed a jump , but the game decides you did not . Several times it looked like I was going to land exactly where I needed to be , but the game decided to kill me anyway .
Fun , at times , but mostly frustrating and stress inducing . This one will be traded very soon .
I don't know why they made this game 1st person . Game developers should learn that 1st person is good for some games , but not all .

i think i had more fun with the demo and time trials than the actual game . i honestly wish i didn't spend $65.01 on it . the story was weak and the fighting was way too hard ! i know i died and had to retry sooooooo many times , very trial and error ( LOTS OF ERROR ) there's no room to be free or explore . i don't feel like the game flowed very well . i beat it in less than 7 hours and half the time i didn't even know what i was doing or why i was in the sewer or why the cops were chasing me . after awhile , my mind set was see red and run to it . only 9 chapters to the game and it ends like a bad odd couple cop comedy movie . the ai is way too smart for this game , as soon as you walk in a room or jump over a fence the cops and the helicopter are shooting at you and chasing you the rest of that level . the game makes you be perfect at everything so then you just get really good at the game so when you go back to play it , it's no fun because you know exactly what to do thus taking away any chance of there being any replay value .
i would recommend this as a rental . i don't see me wanting to play it much later on down the road , but i'm glad i had the experience of playing it .

There are those games that are really cool , and fun to play . Then there are those games that are so amazing , that you feel they have an entire universe somewhere , and you belong there . . . this is one of those games . The environment is incredible . For a FPS it has a good deal of characterization . It is also extremely fun to play . It can be really hard in some spots when you are unsure of what to do , but that's part of the fun of it , it is so open , you feel like you're in a big city . I can't recommend this game enough . Play the demo , fall in love , then buy the game .

This is what game rentals were made for : Playing a game that takes 4 hours to finish without having to lay down $60 for the privilege .
And this is a game you should definitely play , whether you come away loving it or not , because unlike most of the games being released right now it is unique and original and brave .
From its whitewashed look that makes colors all the more vibrant to the way it makes you feel like you inhabit the body of an athletic 90 lb . Asian woman to its cheesy 80s sci-fi synth soundtrack , this game provides an experience I guarantee you have not had before .
Hopefully we will experience something like it again . Hopefully other developers will take away some of the wonderful ideas this game provides and will tie them into a play experience that is actually fun . Because ultimately , that's the problem with this game : It's just not that fun . Quite honestly , the demo was more enjoyable .
For a game that is all about the seamless flow of parkour it's much too difficult . The first two-thrids of the game are spent learning how to play it while it rapidly throws increasingly difficult challenges at you . And the developers knew the game was tough , because dying does little more than take you back to one of the many checkpoints . You may re-tread the same 15 to 30 seconds of gameplay 5 or 10 times just to learn how to do it properly , then move on to the next 15 to 30 seconds of gameplay to face another challenge , over and over . It breaks the flow and the feeling of freedom that made the demo so amazing .
This game should have been longer , it should have had a more shallow difficulty curve , it should have been more fun , but it is a game that is more than worth playing . It's just not a game that's worth paying $60 to own .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
I always thought a parkour based game would be a lot of fun , and I had been reading up on this game for quite some time . The final result is a sort of mixed bag .
I think my biggest gripe with Mirror's Edge is that there simply isn't [ . . . ] worth of game here . It's a lot of fun at first , but gets incredibly repetitive after playing for a few hours . The campaign is very short as well , you can beat this game in roughly 6 - 8 hours . Multiplayer might extend the game's life , but it consists of competing with others and posting the best times in speed trials . If this is your cup of tea you might get a lot out of this game , but as for me , I find it very repetitive and mundane ( though I will admit that some of the times posted by others are very impressive , wow ! )
Another problem is that the game suggests you should always run away from cops - that's perfectly understandable , the main character isn't Rambo here . But multiple times you find yourself in situations where you have no alternative but to fight through swarms of police ( the game even tells you to do this ) . Faith's limited kicks and punches make it incredibly frustrating and annoying . You can always disarm them too ( which is really cool ) , but half the time you are getting shot from all sides that you die within seconds of attempting a disarm . The game developers certainly could have worked on the combat mechanics a little more .
Surprisingly this is one of the most linear games I've ever played . Despite being in a beautiful and seemingly dynamic city , you really only have one way to go . I really wish they made some side missions or something ( rescue a person , deliver a package , etc . ) which would have added far more depth to the game .
Despite my criticism I don't think this is an awful game . In my opinion this game is a rental . It actually reminds me a lot of Assassin's Creed . Both are fun , unique , and creative games that just lack a little more depth which would make them true gems . Unless you plan on playing through the campaign 5 or 6 times , and playing the speed trials online many times , I just don't believe this game warrants a $60 purchase .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
My original review of this game was a bit over-excited , and I amazon.com wouldn't let me revise the # of stars I gave the game - so deleted it to write this new review to better reflect my thoughts .
Mirror's Edge is a 1st-person parkour game where you control Faith , a runner . The game has excellent audio and visual , but hit and miss gameplay and somewhat limited replay value . A good comparison to the game is Portal . Both games introduce a novel gameplay mechanic and center the gameplay around it . The gameplay mechanic is well done in both games . Mirror's Edge has much better visuals ( and arguably better sound for most of the game ) . . . however Portal's plot and dialogue is far superior , and that raises Portal to a level Mirror's Edge can't match .
Graphics : 5 / 5
Mirror's Edge is a beautiful game . The graphics are smooth with no glitches , and the game really gives a sense of speed and movement . The art design is some of the best I've ever seen . The game is a joy to watch . There really isn't much more that could've been done in this department .
Sound : 4 / 5
The sounds in the game ( footsteps , Faith's breathing , gunfire , city noise , etc ) are excellently done - they lend a sense of realism to the game . The music is also excellent - subtle and perfect for parkour . Faith's voice is well done , as are some of the other voice actors . However the dialogue can be pretty bad at times , and not all the voice acting is top notch .
Plot : 1 / 5
The plot , in a word , sucks . The first few levels it seems like it might be going somewhere , but then you realize its somewhat nonsensical , with no character motivation at all for anyone involved . For the most part you don't know why people are evil or good beyond being told so , and everyone's motivation is a large mystery for the most part . I'm surprised the voice acting was so good when the actors had such a horrid plot to work with .
Gameplay : 3 / 5
When Mirror's Edge works , its amazing . When it doesn't , well . . . not so good . Mirror's Edge is a parkour game , and the parkour controls are excellent . The game is amazingly fun when you are doing Parkour - leaping from rooftop to rooftop , or running from men with guns . There are also indoor levels - that wouldn't be so bad ( in fact it would add a touch of something new ) if more than 1 / 2 the game wasn't indoor . So much for free running / exploration . Also - parkour is a sport designed to teach you how to run away from harm . So , for some reason , the developers decided to include multiple scenarios in the game where you had to stay and fight men with guns - no place to run . Maybe doing this once would be acceptable . . . but it happens more than once . This is hampered by the rather horrible gun controls ( Faith isn't supposed to be trained to shoot a gun , but at least a decent way to aim would be nice ) and somewhat difficult combat . If the game had less forced fight scenarios and more outdoor levels it would be great .
Replay Value : 3 / 5
Replay value is hit and miss . There is no real multiplayer ( which is too bad , a race component would have been great ) - however you can play against the ' ghosts ' of the world leaders . This can be rather fun , as you get to see how the best in the world play the game . There are also bags you can collect in each level , and you can replay the levels to find those bags . However , unless you are gunning to set a world record or some such there isn't much additional fun to be had .
Closing Thoughts :
Mirror's Edge isn't a bad game , and its not a great game either . Its an OK game with a lot of potential . I'd love to see a sequel made where they fixed the following :
a ) A GOOD plot . Anything would be better than the current plot - even something as simple as missions for Faith to bring packages to various customers , with witty dialogue throughout the game ( perhaps a prequel to the current game ) .
b ) More parkour , less indoor levels
c ) Less forced fights
d ) A multiplayer option - races would be a lot of fun . Preferably both offline and online options .
Overall I had a lot of fun playing the game , despite the hit-and-miss gameplay and horrible plot . In my mind the good far outweighed the bad , and it'll likely be a title I'll revisit from time to time . Luckily once you a level it opens up at the main menu for you to select , so once you've beaten them all you can play through your favorite ones . A nice little feature that means you can replay what you enjoy , and skip what you don't /

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
Much like the 5 star reviewer before me stated , Mirror's Edge is an incredible fast paced trip through a freedom stifled world in which Big Brother is watching much akin to the film Equilibrium or the novel 1984 . Everything about Mirror's Edge is streamlined to give you maximum thrill with minimum effort , which in this case is an incredibly good thing . The entire premise of this game without giving away the plot is to just keep running . . . it's just that simple .
Controls
As stated above the controls in ME are incredibly simple to the extent that all you really have to do is press the coresponding upward movement or downmard movement button to keep you on the move . The entire control scheme has been narrowed to a few essential actions with no buttons on the control being wasted or leaving you feeling cluttered , because you can't move your fingers fast enough to do everything you could possibly need them to do .
Sound
The sound track is incredible , for me to say anything else would be an injustice to the quality being showcased . Just know that the right music is there when it's needed . Now having said that , the voice acting is pretty good but could still use a little work with characters coming across a little bland at times .
Visual quality / Design / Graphics
As an artist myself , the design in this game is unbelievable and the graphics themselves truly highlight this . Everything from the Flash animated cut scenes , to the obvious hints given to help you progress through the levels , down to the subtle uses of shadow to point you away from areas you should be trying to avoid enhances your overall experience . Visually I've never seen a game this polished , the characters themselves however fall to that saying by Michael J . Fox in Back to the Future 2 , it still looks fake . I only say this because of the obvious attempt at photo realism which is still lacking with the character models . Don't hold that against me though because they do look good .
Combat
Combat in this game is simple and sweet , everything you need in essence is accomplished really with 4 buttons , 2 of which are exclusive to combat . I can't comment on the gunplay in the game because I went through the game without shotting a single enemy for the silver trophy it awards you for doing so . The melee aspect however comes across solid if not a little limiting on the possiblities . I do disagree with the previous reviwer however concerning the enemy AI . The computer is no slouch when it comes to putting you down , keep in mind though it may have been more difficult for me because I wasn't trying to kill them .
Overall for a game I beat in about 6 hours - even making mistakes , it truly was a fun play , and since I only earned about 27% of the trophies and a fraction of the unlockables , I'll be going back for more .
This is going to truly be a game that either you love it or you hate it , so play the demo or rent it and see where you stand .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
Completely overrated - don't waste your time . This exercise in frustration is extremely tedious and punishes per repetition ad nauseum . I'm all for challenging games , but this one is about as enjoyable as the looping sound of a car alarm blaring in your ear . As for the game mechanics , they're somewhat cool . . . if this game came out seven years ago . On top of all this , the cut scenes look like those cheesy Esurance commercials , but at least the commercials are mildly funny and drawn a hell of a lot better . Do yourself a favor if you're thinking about buying this game - download the demo first . After that , if you're still thinking about buying or renting it , go climb up on top of your roof , look for a hard surface to land on , and jump off . Now imagine what that would feel like doing 100 times in a row - you've just captured the essence of what it feels like to play Mirror's Edge !

I saw the trailers and decided to pick this up one day . It is a very fun game , but like most other reviews , I do find things a little repetitive . You run and jump about a city run by big brother , and uncover a conspiracy , and must run for your life . The plot keeps you moving from locale to locale , though it takes about 6 chapters to find out the key point.Anyways , story aside , its a fast paced game that lets you pull off some awesome Matrix / Le Parkour style moves . The controls take a few minutes to get used to , but are pretty simple and dont hinder gameplay .
The drawbacks are the lack of online / multiplayer options . Time trials arent really my idea of keeping me coming back to the game . If there was some arena to have multiple players reach a random objective , or chase down another player or character , that would be much better than chasing a ghost to get through a level faster .
All in all , this is a fun game , but I really wish I had just rented it instead of buying it . Its worth playing through and beating , but you can beat the game fairly quickly , and theres not much in the way of replay value . With that , I give this game a 3.5 out of 5 .

I purchased this game because I previously played the demo last year . At first I though this game was great , it had good graphics and it was a change from most first person shooting games .
After the first three chapters , I realized it was much of the same over and over and over again . Not only that but I beat all 9 chapters + prologue in under 3 1 / 2 hours . I painfully had to force myself to beat this game because I wanted the trophies .
The graphics also became too much for me as well . On my Sony 52 XBR4 ( which has been properly calibrated ) the colors just scream and everything is overly bright ( which is done on purpose ) . Even when you go into the menu and lower the brightness and contrast in game it's either too bright or too dark .
I simply cannot recommend this game .

This game was confused and the graphic design is really nice . But the game play was too difficult . Also the fight scene wasn't good as I thought . This game is not so great game . The weapons are not many . The Area you play so hard only run and fast . It's confusing game .

Mirror's Edge ( Video Game )
This game is fantastic ! !
