The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

  • 088 4  The game is great overall ! ! I loved it actually , but you could guess how the game was going to go at the very beginning . Take the train to the town , find directions to the santurary , Perform , get the some of the rail map , and go to the temple to get the rest . It was a little thing , but something I noticed . As for controls , unless you absoutely NEED the D-Pad , the controls are good and easy to control with no blind spots and for graphics they're better Phantom Hourglass , and very clear . The train rides ? Boring and very long especially if you go somewhere far . The only way you can get past them is by hitting the triangular stones in the middle of some arches and they're hard to notice sometimes , unless you're looking for them . The actual game play is rather fun and I really like it , especially the pan flute and side quests . But for the next game , maybe add shorter means of transportion ?
    • 010 4  This game is just as good as the phantom hour glass . It different enough but still the same . You have new weapons and great side quests ! I hope they keep making these games .
    • 026 4  I got this game for my son and he loves it , so do I . The game is fun and challenging with adventures throughout .
    • 095 4  I had a great time playing through this game . It adds a few new elements to how things worked in Phantom Hourglass . And if you enjoyed Phantom Hourglass , you'll love this one too !
    • 097 4  The train segments bored the pants off me . I have stopped playing it half way through , and couldn't care less about going back to it . A real shame .
    • 109 4  This game had some bad reviews because it takes place on tracks , but i thought it was good . I can't say I like the new ds games as much as the old game boy advance ones , but this one was enjoyable . I especially like having two characters to control instead of one . Amazon delivered it in a timely fashion , and it has worn some palm marks into the ol ' ds too . Thanks .
    • 168 4  Great game . Of coarse I don't play my chillren do and they seem focused . The first zelda was a weiner . This one was long awaited . I'd give it five stars .
    • 176 4  This game is amazing in every way and is a must buy ! The game has fun multiplayer , great graphics , and catchy tunes . I will say though , that players should play the previous game , Phantom Hourglass before this one because they will understand this game a lot better . Another small issue is that the temples in this game can be quite confusing so young players beware . On almost every site this game has been reviewed , all of them say this game is great , and I would HIGHLY reccommend this game .
    • 218 4  I love zelda and was so excited to play this game . That being said , I HATE that I have to use the mic for so many elements . I hate playing the flute , I hate having to make random noises just to move through conversation . To be honest , I got through the Ocean Realm and put the game down because it was so annoying .
    • 228 4  I purchased this game because of the many reviews from adults saying how much they enjoyed playing it . I was very dissappointed . The whole story and game is quite simple , boring and silly . In my opinion , it is not a game for adults . I did not have the patience necessary to finish it all the way to the end .

  • Link , the engineer - Geez , the Zelda idea well is sure running dry , huh ? was my first thought upon seeing the trailers a few months before the release date . Turns out that I enjoy the train elements more than I expected . The designers give you plenty of stuff to do while traveling , and you encounter a growing cast of enemies as the game progresses . And when there's nothing else to do , it's always fun to try your stylus-equipped hand at creating slow and dramatic cinematic camera sweeps of our favorite green-clad hero on his way to save Hyrule . Towards the end of the game , the use of the train figures in more significantly , even including a sort of Pac-Man-on-steroids bit of gameplay . While being able to travel only where the titular Spirit Tracks lay on the overworld map makes traveling a bit more efficient , it does kind of take away from the free roaming exploration aspect of the series . While I imagine some people will hate the train , I think it's a nice change of pace ( though I'm already itching to get Link's two feet back on the ground ) . Zelda , the Phantom puppeteer - Again , this idea turned out to be better executed than I expected . While controlling Zelda is a little cumbersome at first , it ends up adding a nice gameplay element . Though nothing revolutionary , the Link-Zelda partnership allows the designers to add some creative puzzles and action sequences . There are a variety of different Phantoms this time around so that helps keep things fresh . The use of Zelda is generally confined to the Tower of Spirits , so you won't be dealing with this during the normal temples . All in all , I highly approve of how they worked this into the game . The temples : The temples ( or dungeons , if you will ) have always been to me the bread and butter of Zelda games . The temples in Spirit Tracks are good , if not incredibly challenging for the most part . They are also extremely linear , which is probably not surprising to most . Even when you're backtracking , it's all linear backtracking , if that makes any sense . The first few temples are quite easy and short , but from the fourth temple and on the puzzles get increasingly complex , and you'll likely spend an hour or more on each one the first time you play them . The later boss fights are also pretty epic , and a whole lot of fun . Pros : + The graphics are great , and the various cutscenes are well done . + DS stylus controls are well-implemented with only occasional annoyances . I found myself using the left shoulder button to equip items , and doing that in conjunction with aiming or drawing paths with the stylus proved to be quick and efficient . One of the later items , new to the series , would be chore to use with the conventional D-pad and buttons , but the stylus makes its use fast , easy , and fun . + As we've come to expect from the Zelda franchise , the music here is excellent ( and using headphones is recommended if at all possible ) . The songs played with the Spirit Flute , especially the duets with the various Lokomos , are all enjoyable . However , the real winner for me is the overworld train theme . It is simply fantastic , which is fortunate because you're going to hear a whole lot of it , and the slight alterations of it that occur in different situations ( train speed , how much of the Spirit Tracks have been unlocked , etc . ) are a nice touch . At certain moments in the Ocean Realm , there's even a reference to the sailing theme in The Wind Waker . Every time Link departs from a location , the theme starts up , the train starts steaming , and then music and train blast off together . You'll experience this dozens of times , and it never loses any excitement . Cons : - It takes about an hour to get into any action ( and by action I mean not just fighting , but puzzles and exploration as well ) , and even that initial bit is far from gripping . You'll play for over two hours before reaching the first temple . Compare this to the beginning of A Link to the Past ( whose opening is my favorite in the Zelda canon ) , where within minutes you're in the heart of the action . To be fair , this somewhat long orientation period is now quite typical for Zelda games so it's nothing out of the ordinary . - DS gimmicks ( blowing into the mic to play the Spirit Flute , having to yell at certain times ) are sigh-inducing but tolerable . - Princess Zelda is often pretty annoying , both in cut scenes as well as during actual gameplay . Though they are unplayable characters , the Princesses in OOT and TWW are much better . And if you hate the look of Toon Link , you'll definitely groan at Toon Zelda . - Contains the tedious filler that has been customary for Zelda titles for quite some time . By that , I mean fetch quests and the like which are unchallenging but time consuming , simply acting as chores . And I don't mean side quests , either ( of which Spirit Tracks has plenty ) . I mean mind-numbing stuff that you simply HAVE to do . Though this adds gameplay hours , it hurts replay value . Take out the padding and I'd probably start the game over again tomorrow even though I just beat it today . As it stands , I don't expect to replay it again for quite some time . Limiting side quests to a minimum , experienced Zelda fans should complete the game in 20 - 25 hours the first time through . However , I'd argue that at least 30% could be trimmed off , resulting in a better game with more replay value . And this is coming from someone who likes long games . It may seem like I'm being overall critical on what is overall a fantastic game . I imagine it's simply because the Zelda franchise is the one that I hold nearest and dearest to my heart , and therefore I tend to being extremely critical of it , desiring and demanding nothing short of near-perfection . However , though I consider Spirit Tracks to be merely an excellent Zelda game , I always remind myself that when given a fairer comparison against all video games , it's nothing less than outstanding . I'm grateful for every new Zelda title that comes out , and this one is no exception . I'd easily recommend it to just about anyone .
    • 001 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Phantom Hourglass , for me , was a disappointment . I found it to be EXTREMELY repetitive because you had to go back to the same dungeon after every mission and solve the same puzzles over and over again . Luckily , Spirit Tracks removes this problem , because every time you go back to the Spirit Tower , you have to solve a different level ( or floor ) of the tower . There is no button control scheme , but the stylus controls work fine . Graphics are REALLY nice . Your jaw will drop when you see some of the bosses . Train rides are a bit monotonous , especially when you have to travel all over the place . Puzzles are entertaining as always , and Spirit Tacks is different because you have a Phantom helper at some points in the game . Overall , an enjoyable way to kill , say , 20 - 30 hours . Also , there are new weapons in this game ; certainly an improvement . I am absolutely sure this game will sell like hotcakes for the holiday season . Note : If your planning on this as a gift , your target audience should be 10 + . Some puzzles are fairly challenging , make sure to take note of that .

    • 003 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) I had my expectations set pretty low for this game , Link using a train didn't seem to appeal to me . Also , Phantom Hourglass was a disappointment to me so I was expecting a bit more disappointment . When I put Spirit Tracks in my DS I was actually surprised on how good the game was . So I'll split everything up . Movement : The stylus movements are a bit more refined so it seems to read it easier than Phantom Hourglass , you don't find yourself stopping when you get too close to the edge of the screen . It's also a bit easier to roll , this can be a problem or can be an advantage for you . Items : There are the usual items , the sword , the bow and arrow , boomerang , and bombs . Then new items are the Whip and Fan . The whip is very easy to use , the fan can be a pain at first since you have to blow into the microphone but it becomes second nature after awhile . Your new main item is the Spirit Flute , it's great for them to add in the DS Microphone but if your DS is old , it can be an issue picking up when your blowing into it or not , but other than that the new items are a great addition to the series . Graphics : Not much to say , they are the same as Phantom Hourglass , maybe a tad better . Gameplay : Now this is where this game shines over Phantom Hourglass , The train can be a bit tedious after awhile , but there are a very shortcuts to help along . A new feature is the control of a second character , this only comes into play in the Tower of Spirits , Zelda is able to take control a Phantom when you have 3 Tears of Light . This makes some puzzles very interesting and can be very entertaining when you see a large suit of armor cowering over a little mouse . Other than that Zelda takes the role of a helping character , such as Navi or Ceila . Your main source of transportation is the train of course . Overall the game is very good , If you were disappointed in Phantom Hourglass then you wont be disappointed in Spirit Tracks . Even if you haven't played a Zelda game , this would be a great game to start .

    • 005 4  There may be some vague spoilers below , but nothing too revealing . • 006 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) - Nostalgic Section - ( you may skip to main review if you want ) I've been playing Zelda games since the SNES Link to the Past , which was also my first game ever . Zelda sure has evolved over the years ! Even with the exciting changes , it still retains what made it a hit in the beginning , with its dungeon and over-world exploring , along with several weapons , secrets , etc . When I first saw Windwaker for GC , I actually wasn't interested ( well , I didn't have a GC for one , but I saw toon Link steering a boat and thought , what have they done ? ? ) Years later I got a GC and a friend let me borrow the game , and I was hooked from beginning to end ! I loved toon Link and the humor of the dialogue , he's just too cute NOT to like ! Plus , it still retained what made the other games great . - Main Review - ( Even though I haven't beaten the game , I don't think you have to beat something to be able to review it . I'm reviewing it's enjoyability . ) I posted all that above because when I saw pictures of toon Link conducting a train , I face-palmed and thought , what are they THINKING ? Well , I should have learned my lesson from earlier and believed in Nintendo . . . this game is amazing ! I even woke up this morning and played for a few minutes before heading downstairs . I would be playing it right now if I didn't have errands . I really thought the train idea would bomb , but bought it because when I saw the trailer , the game still looked fun and I did enjoy Phantom Hourglass . They've added several elements to the train idea to make it fun . Obstacles include animals on the tracks or coming at you , possessed trains to avoid , and there are signs on the sides every now-and-then that I think mean something but I haven't gotten far enough to figure out what to do yet . Another great element , Zelda is your companion throughout the game ! You don't see her once or twice like the other games , she actually helps you ! And she's cute and funny too . Oh , and your new instrument this time around is really cool too . All in all , it's a new Zelda , but still awesome as always . This series never disappoints !

    • 011 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) This zelda game is very fun compared to Phontom Hourglass . I played and beat both and I think Spirit tracks is overall better because I hated going back to the Ocean Temple in Phantom Hourglass . You also get some cool new items to get through some of the temples . I think the best ds game of 2009 .
    • 013 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) First of all , let me say that I am playing on a Triforce DS Lite I got in the holiday bundle 2007 , and let me tell you that it is epic to play Zelda on a Triforce DS . That being said , Spirit Tracks fixes one of the major problems I had with the first one , which is the tower you must visit after each temple . The first featured a timed game , stealth , and recurrence all in one . I simply cannot stand timed games , it makes me feel hurried . The only way I was able to tolerate Majora's Mask and the 3 day limit was that I could either slow down time , or reset it after I was done with a temple . The Spirit Tower in Spirit Tracks is very challenging , yet it isn't timed . Not only that , but you don't have to visit floors already visited . Another thing vastly improved from Phantom Hourglass is the transportation . Instead of a boring ship , there's now a train . It adds some skill since there are other trains on the track as well . Although , it is a bit weird that Link is an engineer , but I digress . The music is simply fantastic . I loved the Ocarina in OOT and MM , and was disappointed that PH didn't have an instrument . Well my friends , the Spirit Flute functions just like the Ocarina ! Even after you play , it goes to a cut-scene of Link playing with the harmony , just like MM ! At first , I thought using the DS microphone would be insanely stupid and gimmicky . But after using it , I am singing a different tune ( pun not intended . ) The on-board mic is incredibly accurate , and it doesn't look as weird in public as I thought it would . You will not be disappointed with this game . I mean come on , it's a Zelda game , which means instant purchase for us Zelda nerds . It's no OOT , but then again , what game is ? Maybe if Nintendo put more effort into awesome games instead of the shovelware of lately , then we would see another OOT ; Wii Zelda not withstanding , but I digress again .

    • 018 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) I bought this game for myself as I'm a big fan of the previous Zelda games , however , my son , who's six , also loves to play this . He's just learning to read so it's hard for him to understand what to do sometimes , but he surprises me with how much he can figure out on his own . I am a bit disappointed with the constant repetition of going back to the same dungeons over and over but it's still a highly entertaining game . I strongly recommend the strategy guide . Some of the puzzles are nearly impossible to figure out without the guide . My son will look at the pictures when he's stuck and it helps him tremendously . Ideally this game is best suited for 8 and up I think , but with some help , the younger ones can play too . Overall the game is great and if you're a fan of the older Zelda games , you shouldn't be disappointed .

Overall the game is great and if you're a fan of the older Zelda games , you shouldn't be disappointed .
    • 020 4  I bought this game for myself as I'm a big fan of the previous Zelda games , however , my son , who's six , also loves to play this . • 021 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) This game is a must buy for all you Zelda fans out there . The game carries the same quality and satisfying gameplay that the Phantom of the Hourglass did . I just can't say enough about this game and how Great it is . A new adventure for Link and company with a world to explore via Train . The gameplay mechanics are very familiar which is not a bad thing since it worked so well in the first . So journey to the land of Hyrule and prepare to immerse yourself in the challenges and story to unfold . I give it a 2 thumbs up .

I would still recommend it though .

    • 041 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Can Link do anything right these days ? For all of the critical praise that the ongoing Legend of Zelda saga has received in recent years , the online backlash towards the past few entries has been harsh . While Twilight Princess and Phantom Hourglass introduced new wrinkles to the series , the dungeon-trekking foundation that's been in place since the original - or at least Link to the Past - is starting to feel creaky . Spirit Tracks , the latest Zelda and Nintendo's big handheld title from last fall , suggested that cartoony locomotives might be the solution , but unfortunately riding the rails is the worst part of an otherwise wonderful adventure . Phantom Hourglass was unusual in that it followed the events of 2003 ' s The Wind Waker , instead of just hitting the traditional Hyrule reset button . If you've seen any cel-shaded Spirit Tracks screens , then you've probably realized that this game is another direct sequel . Unlike PH , this game takes place 100 years after Tetra , the King of Red Lions and all of that time-consuming sailing . It's clear that this is the same world though , with plenty of references to the old toon games sprinkled throughout . The leap in time means that the world has dried up , so wheels are required to get to each isolated outpost . I figure we should get the bad stuff out of the way first : traveling via train is a snooze . While the boat always offered some freedom of movement , the tracks in place only allow 90 degree turns , and there's just not much to explore in between . I know that some of you tired of changing wind direction or that heinous Triforce fetch quest at the end of WW , but if you look at it objectively , there were tons of little treasures and uncharted islands scattered around too . In Spirit Tracks , you've got some randomly spawning enemies , some rabbits and . . . well , that's about it . These long stretches of nothingness are made even longer thanks to the slow default engine speed and one-hit-killer locomotives patrolling near major junctions . You can upgrade parts of your train at a trading post later in the game , and warp points are uncovered if you complete side quests , but the reality is that you'll be spending about a third of the adventure shoveling coal and fighting boredom . The good news is that almost everything else about Spirit Tracks is wonderful . This is not the radical departure from the series ' traditions that you may have been hoping for , but it is a much more refined handheld Zelda than Phantom Hourglass ( and I thought PH was great already ) . From a storytelling standpoint , Spirit Tracks is surprisingly sophisticated . The villain is a toon-shaded dweeb and the imminent release of a big bad demon is familiar , but the direction of the cutscenes and the expressiveness on the characters ' faces still shine . This particular world always appealed to me more than the Tolkien-lite Ocarina offshoots , and this game looks really sharp whenever the camera zooms in . And while I expect nothing less from Nintendo's localization wizards , the witty script - with plenty of old-school callbacks - endears too . There's still some overworld exploration ( which unfortunately puts you back in that conductor's seat ) , but you'll spend most of your time solving puzzles in the handful of dungeons . Again , it's familiar - find a new tool / weapon , track down the boss and collect your hear piece - but the designs rely less on obvious riddles compared to PH . Touch screen controls still feel great , especially when you're swinging across a chasm with your grappling hook or blowing into your mic to create whirlwinds with a big leaf . The main elemental dungeons are fun , but the return trips to the central Tower of Spirits are where Spirit Tracks comes closest to matching Link's Awakening as the best portable Zelda . In each of these segments , there are no new items to collect , boss keys to find or anything else to distract you from your ascent to the top . ( OK , those droplets of light might qualify , but you gather them pretty quickly . ) It's just Link and Zelda against the series ' most devious puzzles , which play with perspective and almost every ability at your disposal . And yes , I did say Zelda . Nintendo has not hidden the fact that the titular princess is along for the ride as a disembodied spirit . After you strike tower guards from behind , she can possess their armor . In her clunky suit , Zelda can walk over lava and spikes . Better yet , her increased strength allows her to push hefty boulders and carry Link to safety . If you enjoyed the two partner dungeons in The Wind Waker , you'll have a ball here . While I wish these moments made up the entire game , the level design is strong enough to overshadow those bumpy train rides . I hope that Nintendo is using a new blueprint for the next Wii Zelda , but this DS entry shows that the old formula is still relevant . * In case you're wondering , I didn't get to try the multiplayer mode . Nintendo axed wi-fi support , so if you ran a Phantom Hourglass clan , you might want to reconsider your purchase . - - Reviewed by Justin Hemenway

Now , 2 years after , we are greeted by a new and better game just in time for the holiday season . Toon-shaded Link is back ( groan ! ) but the excitement and thrill of this game is enough to forget this little fact . I guess the idea of realistic art style Link like in the Twilight Princess will never materialize for the DS . And on some levels , this doesn't seem like a bad idea because it would be difficult to appreciate it anyway on such a small screen . Still love the fact that the game is played using stylus-based controls . It gives a lot more possibilities to the player than just the usual control scheme . This feature will most likely follow through ' til the last Zelda game on the DS . Zelda is finally getting some much needed involvement in this game ! People have always wondered why a character named Link is the star in a game called The Legend of Zelda . Now , we have a game that shows us who this Zelda character really is . We get to know her in this game more than in any other Zelda game in the past . I love that she is part of the storyline than just the usual damsel-in-distress kind of way . The various puzzles offered in this game has some difference with the usual stuff that we get in a Zelda offering . But the challenge and uniqueness of these brain teasers are refreshing , to say the least . They are the heart of a true Zelda game . I enjoyed the Phantom Hourglass but I must say that Spirit Tracks is better in so many ways . Over the weekend , I saw at least 4 kids around midtown playing this game . I guess , like me , they have gotten their gifts early this year .

    • 046 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Just to start off , I've been playing Zelda games since the NES days and haven't missed one yet . So , of course I reserved my copy of Spirit Tracks as soon as possible . After having replayed Phantom Hourglass for the umpteenth time I was ready for some new adventures . When it finally came into my possession , I was first worried that is was a carbon-copy of Phantom Hourglass , with the train replacing the boat and Zelda replacing the fairy . Well , while the game DOES use a foundation of resources maintained from PH , there is such a plethora of ' new ' that I am now addicted in every extent to this game . Not only is the gameplay fun and functional ( save for a few jumpy areas where the stylus slips and you fall to your death , lol ) , but the characters , story and even sidequests make the game immense for a direct sequel , or for any game in fact . IGN says it has 25 hours of gameplay , but I'd place it more at 35 if you do every sidequest available . . . which you will . . . don't deny it ! Overall , this is an amazing game . Zelda fans , pick this up now ! For others just now getting into the Zeldaverse , you may want to start off with Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass for the fullest experience . Be sure to get the collector's edition guide with this ! You'll need it for those side quests ! Happy trails !

    • 048 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) It is always hard to review something like LZ : ST . People either love or hate Zelda and will react accordingly each time a game is released . For better or worse , LZ : ST plays like a new version of LZ : PH from two years ago . Personally , I like this game better and I would imagine the majority of Zelda players will agree . This Zelda is continuing in the cartoon series . I've found Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass to be attractive and LZ : ST is no different . In fact , maybe too similar . You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between LZ : PH and LZ : ST without knowing what you were looking at . The story is fairly typical Zelda fare , nothing even too groundbreaking in the series , its always just interesting enough to justify the series of dungeons . Link uses the Spirit Train instead of a boat this time around and it works plenty fine . You can toot your horn and fire a cannon later in the game . The side mission of hunting rabbits keeps the train sessions mostly interesting , but like the boat , it is probably not as fun as riding Epona in the console Zeldas . The game controls great for stylus only control . If it irritated you in PH , it will irritate you now as there has been no real changes to the control scheme and no option for D-pad control . One minor improvement is the use of double taps for rolling instead of drawing circles on the edge of the screen . LZ : ST is a short game though , in travel speak , it will probably last you one long car trip or two plane rides . Like many Zelda games , there is plenty to do , collecting rabbits and stamps prime among the activities , but the dungeons all seem extremely short and easy . The puzzle answers are rarely more difficult than finding a drawing or note somewhere in the dungeon and making a few drawings on the map . I'll be the first to admit that the game mechanic IS fun , but it is awfully easy as well . One new mechanic is fun , and that is controlling phantoms with Zelda . Sadly , this is only done in the tower , which is a very limited part of the game . Its too bad , this could have been even more entertaining to use . Bosses have also made no improvements . Each boss is just like bosses you've seen from ALTTP and on . You find a weapon in the doungeon and then you use it to defeat the boss . This mechanic could use some freshening . Maybe use multiple items on a boss ? Something . New items are entertaining , especially the snake whip and the pinwheel . In the end , Zelda is Zelda . A few minor tweaks here and there make this an overall stronger game than Phantom Hourglass , but not exactly by leaps and bounds . If you love Zelda , you'll love this game . If you aren't a fan , nothing here will change your mind . Yes , Nintendo basically keeps putting out the same Zelda games for us over and over , but its hard to argue when they are all so good . . .

    • 050 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Windwaker and Phantom hourglass were great games and so was this one , but unlike the other two the train is pretty boring . You can't really explore in the train very well unless you get force gems , which collecting is a pain , unlike the other two . Also Zelda's constant narration during the game gets irritating . The last two songs irritated me , but a little tip , it doesn't matter if you play choppy , just wait for the camera to stop on you . Other than that , the soundtrack , Link's moans and sighs , Dungeons , and the rest of the game is great . One last thing , I found the whole tons-o-treasure-for-train-parts , and draw-Zelda's-path-and-hope-she-doesn't-screw-up thing was very annoying .

    • 052 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) With Spirit Tracks , Nintendo appears to have forgotten that their original fans still play the games . I've been an addict since Zelda came out in the late 1980s . But not this one . Game play is similar to many Zelda's with one glaring difference - for much of the first part of the game you have to blow into the mic to make anything happen . This may be fine if you're 10 . Not so much if you're pushing 50 and like to play on the train during a commute . And don't even try to play if you have a cold . . . Having Zelda play as the phantom is the best part of the game for me . Even some of the bosses are tedious here . I'll take a two headed dragon any day - solving that one was a puzzle , not an exercise in how fast you can move the wand to make sand or how quickly you can blow into a mic . And previous reviewers have already done a good job describing the tedium of the train . I've successfully finished every Zelda and usually play the games multiple times since they're just fun . This one , I have given up on . It's not that it's too hard - game play is just not fun . And if it isn't fun , why play ?

I'll take a two headed dragon any day - solving that one was a puzzle , not an exercise in how fast you can move the wand to make sand or how quickly you can blow into a mic . And previous reviewers have already done a good job describing the tedium of the train . I've successfully finished every Zelda and usually play the games multiple times since they're just fun . This one , I have given up on . It's not that it's too hard - game play is just not fun . And if it isn't fun , why play ?
    • 054 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) What can really be said about the Zelda series that hasn't been set before ? Every single new addition to the series manages to be highly unique while still retaining all the classic elements that fans know and love ; it's a claim that few series this long-running can make . Spirit Tracks retains the overall format of its truly amazing predecessor , Phantom Hourglass , but this time utilizes a train as your primary mode of transportation . It feels extremely tedious and limiting at first , but as the world opens up around you with your various achievements , it becomes much more involving and fun . There's an awful lot to do in this game , with tons of side quests that keep you occupied in between major objectives . This has the effect of making you feel like you're constantly achieving things , which keeps you up playing a lot more late nights than you will expect ! As with Phantom Hourglass , the touch-screen controls are spot-on and highly intuitive , making game play just the breeze it should be . The story manages to be engaging , the goals to achieve and the enemies to defeat are all among the most unique to yet be seen in a Zelda title , and the puzzles are satisfying to solve . Also like its predecessor , this game utilizes every capability of the DS in fun and rewarding ways , making for a title that could only exist on the DS , another great reason to own it . This game DOES fix the tedious and frustrating repetiton that plagued Phantom Hourglass when it forced you to revisit the same temple multiple times . The only downside is that the primary temple in THIS game becomes so difficult for your final visit that it's nearly enough to turn you off from playing the game , which should never happen . But everything leading up to that is a real blast , and I highly recommend the game to anybody who's ever loved a Zelda game or needs to discover the series ; it's hard to imagine a soul not finding entertainment in this one !

    • 057 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) This game has a lot of good points . The puzzles are fun , the graphics are good , and I like the use of the stylus when it comes to Link's various weapons like the boomerang . It's fun and interesting to trace the path and makes some of the puzzles a real joy to solve . What I don't like about this Zelda is the way you have to use the stylus to fight . It's a pain in the butt . I much prefer navigating and fighting with Link by just using arrows and buttons . I also don't really like traveling everywhere by train . You get some interesting puzzles this way and without it , there wouldn't really be a point to the game ( which is to restore the tracks ) but it still gets annoying sometimes . Overall , though , I don't regret buying this game and most of the time , I really enjoy it !

    • 059 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks is easily one on my favorite games on the DS . After trudging my way through Phantom Hourglass , I had low hopes for Spirit Tracks after seeing how graphically identical it was . And it's true , the graphical style , control scheme , and even the structure of the game are very similar to its predecessor . Then what about this game made such a positive impression with me ? The only thing that was truly wrong with Phantom Hourglass was the pacing . It took me a long time to get through it , but Spirit Tracks had me hooked until the end . I enjoyed riding the train . . . especially blowing the horn , which was ALWAYS satisfying ( as lame as it sounds ) . The boss battles were great and even the dungeon designs were clever , with a couple genuinely tricky puzzle . I heard some reviews early on about how easy a game it is . . . For me , it was not only more difficult than Phantom Hourglass , but thankfully less frustrating . This is one of my top DS games , along with Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and Contra 4 . Amazon has been selling it for real cheap since Christmas , so pick it up ! it's definitely worth it .

    • 061 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Not much else to describe than pure enjoyment . I thought it'd be rough getting used to playing the game with NO BUTTONs , but the simple stylus interaction proves Nintendo can bring something new to the table and make it feel completely natural .

I am playing little by little now so that it will not end so soon ( I am about 2 / 3 done ) . This game is fun and I highly recommend this for those who cannot enjoy real action games but still want to play adventure games . I hate games that require complex pressing buttons and d-pad so this is perfect for me ; everything is done by a stylus .

There is no game they haven't been able to conquer . With that said , Spirit Tracks challenged them on one particular level - - so much so that they searched the web for hints to get past it . Needless to say , they found the answer . My kids have finished the game several times and love it . They also like the head-to-head play with one another . Another awesome realease by Nintendo !

    • 072 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) When I first heard this game was coming out , I was so happy . The first game , Zelda : Phantom Hourglass , was amazing . It was probably one of the best games for DS , with over 20 hours of game time . It was fun , challenging , and was the first DS game that has made me genuinely laugh . However , when I got Spirit Tracks , I was pretty disappointed . The game follows basically the same story that all Zelda games have : Zelda's spirit is in trouble , your Link , you have to rescue her by collecting artifacts and trashing bosses , blah-blah-blah . Phantom Hourglass had the same story , but at least their were memorable characters , like the swashbuckling-Linebeck and Ceila the Fairy . Instead , you get spirit Zelda , who is extremely whiny for a sidekick . The villagers , however , are pretty funny . The gameplay is just like Hourglass , which is a good thing : You control Link with the stylus , and attack enemies by simply tapping . I liked some of the really clever enemies , and the bosses , as you would expect from a Zelda game , were incredibly awesome . Also , some of the puzzles were much trickier , having you utilize Zelda in a Phantom's bodies to accomplish some tasks . And I liked how the game allows you to bypass previously played levels in the main Dungeon , unlike Hourglasse's annoying Ocean Temple . However , I was not impressed with the weapon selection : I won't spoil anything , but I'll just say that they removed a lot of awesome tools , while hardly adding anything ( the shovel ? GONE ? NOOOO ! ! ! ) The sprites were also a bit of a letdown ; while the graphics are amazing , there are hardly any new villagers , trees , or treasures that weren't in the first one . Also , I was not impressed with the mode of transportation : The Train . You drive around all of Hyrule in a train on predetermined tracks . You can unlock more tracks as you defeat bosses , and head to new , exotic locales . However , compared to Hourglasse's cool ship , which allowed you to sail ANYWHERE , Spirit tracks feels too restricted . Also , while this game boasts a massive campaign ( easily over 20 hours ) most of that will be you driving around doing errands , just to unlock new tracks . Whoopee . And that brings me to another point : While you can still collect tons of treasures , the reply value is severely stunted do to the removal of cool mini games like fishing and treasure collecting . Once you defeat the campaign , you won't feel the need to replay it . As a side note , there is a multiplayer mode . It's pretty fun : You and your friends play as Links who have to collect Force gems , all the while trying to bomb each other and avoid Phantoms . You have a TON of options : You can play Wifi , play using multiple cards , or play using download play . This is incredibly helpful , because it doesn't matter if some one else doesn't have another game card for their DS . Overall , I found the multiplayer to be better than Hourglasse's , but it was a bit too hectic and not something I feel is a major selling point . In conclusion , Zelda : Spirit Tracks is by no means a bad game ; it has to be one of the best games for DS . However , it is no where near as fun as Zelda : Phantom Hourglass . My suggestion ? Go with Phantom Hourglass : It has more freedom , cooler weapons , better characters , and the replay value is awesome . The good people at Nintendo tried , but Spirit Tracks is nothing but a stalled out , copycat train .

    • 081 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) The only reason I didn't give this game five stars is because playing the stupid spirit flute is very , very anoying ! I got stuck at on one spirit flute puzzle for a week , took a break for a month , and tried again later . Its not like it involves much skill , I mean all you have to do is blow into the mic and move the flute around . Its not fun , and I would feel completely stupid playing it in public . In the car it won't work at all because of the a / c . Oh , and , compared to other Zelda games I've played , it was pretty short and it did feel more childish . And the train is so darn slow ! Other than that it was great . The puzzles were intertaining and difficult , but not overly so . I enjoyed the style of graphics more than in the Phantom Hourglass , and the spirit tower is 10 times better than the ocean temple . The plot was entertaining , but not too complex . I enjoyed Zelda being more involved in the plot ; it was a great choice to make her the companion character . Over all the game was pretty good , and I would recomend it if you like Zelda games , and maybe even if you don't .

    • 083 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks is the successor to the first Zelda DS , Phantom Hourglass . PH was fun , but it required you to revisit the same temple about , what , 4 or 5 times ? That's too much . Spirit Tracks takes everything bad about PH , and takes it to a whole new level . Since Zelda games are heavy on story , I'm just gonna give you the rundown . Link is now a train conductor , and is on his way to get his official certificate in Castle Town . He meets Zelda , and they set off for the Spirit Tower , a creepy huge tower looming in the center of Hyrule . It's certainly seen better days , and it's the cause of the Spirt Tracks ' ( railroad tracks ) disappearances all about Hyrule . When they get there , they are ambushed and some dude kills Zelda ! That's right . Kills her . Link brings her soul to life at the Spirit Tower , with help of an old lady , and she tells them a big long story . Spirit Tracks follows a linear format , but with added twists throughout . First , you must retrieve the Spirit Maps from different floors of the Spirit Tower . You get these with the help of your pal Zelda , who's soul is in disguise in a Phantom's costume . Then , you set out to the realm's sanctuary , learn a song , and clear the zone's temple and restore the power to the tracks , then repeat . The graphics looks great , one of DS's best , and are a step-up from the 2007 predecessor . Control is simple , use the stylus to move Link , just tap and he'll come running . Double-tap to roll , and swipe to slash your sword . The train is one of the biggest additions to Spirit Tracks , and it is incredible . Much better than any of his old boats , the Spirit Train is a great new addition to the Zelda Transportation Library . You trace your route on the map , and off you go , controlling your speed , firing enemies with your cannon , and avoiding enemy trains . It's a Zelda game , and what's a Zelda game without new items ? Spirit Tracks boasts some old favorites , such as the boomerang , bow and arrow , and bombs , all which use great stylus control ( especially the boomerang ) . New items include the Deku Fan , which you blow into the microphone to send a gust of one flying . Perfect for stunning enemies , activating fans , and getting items . The other new item is the Whip Snake , a Indiana Jones-esque whip . Link uses this to attack enemies , swing over pits , and hang on to flying objects . Both are great . I would've liked to see the Clawshot somehow incorporated into the DS , but that's just me . There's a lot of depth and replay value to ST . Spawnning 5 incredible dungeons , tons of villages and places to explore , and fun addictive minigames such as hunting rabbits , stamp collecting , and collecting treasure . Also , once you acquire a new item from the dungeons , you are encouraged to revisit past areas and find hidden secrets that you couldn't access before using your new items . The bosses in ST once span both screens , like in PH , but these are much interesting . Each have unique ways to beat them , usually using the item you acquired , but aren't too tough . The biggest new addition , in my opinion , is the Spirit Flute , which may even beat the Ocarina in best Zelda Instrument Category . Playing is simple , just drag along the bottom screen to move the flute to its respective holes , and then blow into the DS microphone . You use the flute to restore the Spirit Tracks's power with duets from the Lokomos , access new hidden items , and much more . That about wraps up the ST review . It beats Phantom Hourglass in every way imaginable , and is one of the best DS games out there . Buy it . Pros : Great Zelda Adventure New Items , Dungeons , and Quests Spirit Flute Cons : Linearity Overall : 9.5 / 10

    • 085 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Review dictated to mother by 11 year old gamer : This game offers some very fun puzzles ( around 30 ) . The system is completely controlled by your stylus . Sometimes you will get Zelda to play along with you and you can use her help in the adventure ( in different suits of armor ) . Offers around 30 to 40 hours of game play . Storyline is basically you are trying to get Zelda's body back from the Demon King . I think this game is very fun and has a truly unique way of using the stylus for game play .

    • 087 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) The game is great overall !

    • 102 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Zelda has had the same formula for the last thirty years . With Phantom Hourglass they began to break the mold just a little bit with a dungeon that you return to after every level . In that game they had some major flaws with the over world and the extra dungeon . All of those things have been fixed . The train makes the overworld a lot better as well as the extra dungeon has save points unlike the last game . This game is right for all ages as well as people new to the franchise or long time fans great game .

I can't say I like the new ds games as much as the old game boy advance ones , but this one was enjoyable . I especially like having two characters to control instead of one . Amazon delivered it in a timely fashion , and it has worn some palm marks into the ol ' ds too . Thanks .

    • 118 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Pros Another important aspect in Zelda games have been its brilliantly designed puzzles . At times , it was required to use different weaponry to succeed in solving the puzzles . The addition of these types of puzzles made the weapons feel useful rather than just a list of weapons that the player may never get to use . For the most part , controlling Link via stylus is the most refined , most precise experience in a Zelda game ever . After traversing through dangerous and tricky dungeons , you have to fight different kinds of bosses . The fight was overly easy , and throughout the fight I never felt threatened . Even the fight was overly easy , I love easy boss fights that don't cause stress . Cons It takes too long to move from one location to another by train . While driving a train , nothing interests me so much . Sometimes , I want to go sleep during on train .

Plays well and easy to pick up . Found some lagging on my DS Lite but doesn't seem to hurt game play too much . Some of the dungeons are slightly harder but hardly noticeable for a regular Zelda fan . Still easy for a younger audiences to play . Not sure how it will end yet but am very excited to play this one to the end .

    • 126 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) I bought this as a late Christmas / Basic Training graduation gift for my boyfriend . We've both played it and we both mutually agree it's better than ' Phantom Hour Glass ' . I love using the stylus to control Link and the puzzles were a lot of fun , they weren't overly challenging [ but this is Zelda they usually aren't ] . The graphics were good for a DS game , it was nice to have a ' helper ' with the puzzles . The new weapons were a bonus as well and the multiplayer was fun . Like with the boats from Phantom Hour Glass and Wind Waker , the train rides got very boring and repetitive pretty quick and I didn't like how you were confined and couldn't explore too much outside of dungeons . The game itself wasn't very challenging , its definitely more of a fun time killer than anything else . I definitely agree with Gamespots pros and cons and agree it deserves an 8.5 / 10 .

    • 129 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) I'm a huge Zelda fan . I didn't beat every Zelda game , but I have played every single one . That being said this isn't one of the best Zelda games I have ever played . In fact I wouldn't even put it in my top 5 . That doesn't mean that its a bad game however . STORY = 7 The stories in Zelda games isn't what makes it so great . But this story however isn't really that great . The story is unoriginal , predictable , and flat out uninteresting . The one thing that really made me unhappy about this game is the fact that Ganon is not the main villain . In fact he isn't even mentioned and that upset me because he's the Zelda villain . Having Zelda come along isn't what the commercials made it out to seem . She's more like Navi from Ocraina of time than a partner . CONTROLS = 8 The entire game is played on the touch screen , which actually was a turn off for me to play this game . As soon as I started playing this game it took me about 5 minutes to get use to it . However you'll hardly ever notice it once you get use to it . There comes a point in the game where you have to mimic certain sounds in the game which is actually pretty challenging to do . You have to blow into the mic while picking the colors that appear on the screen and it takes a few practices to get it right . CHALLENGE = 7 I think this game was intended for younger audiences because it really isn't that hard . I will admit that I have died a few times in this game but that was due to a lot of carelessness . Where I got stuck were at some of the puzzles in the temples . It took a lot of thinking to figure some of them out . The bosses in the temples are pretty simple to beat as long as you know what your doing . GRAPHICS = 9 the graphics in this game are really good no design flaws , no bugs , its just a beautiful game . OVERALL = 8 Overall the game is good and differently worth having but there are some cons in this game that might turn some people away . For instance you have to return to a place called the spirit temple at least 6 times . You have to collect things called tears of light so Zelda can control one of the temple guards in there in order to progress which does get tedious . But , because each floor you go to is completely different than the last one you do look past it . It took me roughly 20 hours to beat this game so it does have a good lengthy adventure . Plus there are a lot of side quest you can do such as catching bunnies , collecting treasures , and even competing in take em all on challenge . In conclusion it may not be for everybody but if you've enjoyed any Zelda game you won't be disappointed in this one .

I have the legend of the wind waker , and Link 3 for the gameboy . For both of the games , they always had great challenges and fun gameplay . With this , the game has a great storyboard like always , but it really isn't that hard . And if you get stuck , you can just go to youtube and find out your problem . Also , fighting is really just taping and swinging . This games puzzles are pretty easy to find out and some are boring . If you're wondering if the train travel is any good , it is a nice touch , but can really be a pain when you are trying to get somewhere quickly . The games graphics are the same as the wind waker , so it is just toon link . The graphics really haven't changed for the toons . Overall , a great game for anyone who is older than ten , because some of the puzzles are hard , but most are really easy . It is a great deal for the money you pay and has two new weapons . The whip and the fan which makes a cyclone . I haven't gotten the whip yet , but most people say that its there in reviews . It is a great game for some ages .

    • 134 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Overall , if you're a fan of the series you'll enjoy playing this game . Its comfortable in the series , as in this is not a sequel that steps out of the bounds of its predecessors . Its simply more of zelda with new content and new twist in that sometimes you control a phantom in the dungeons . I enjoyed this game as a whole , feeling that the latter half was infinitely more fun than the first half . If you've just started playing it , push through the first 3 dungeons , the game will get a lot better . What sucks in this game : The dialogue is horrible , especially compared to the ever changing trend in most games coming out that have real dialogue . I found it obnoxious that I have to chose dialogue options for link that consist of at most four or five words . Zelda games aren't known for their deep prose so I knew not to expect much and that's what I got , not much . The first half of the game is slow , boring , and all too easy . You could make the same claim about the game's difficulty as a whole being too easy , but I've come to expect that from Nintendo games in the past few years . Ah remember how hard Ocarina was ? You really can fly through this game with little difficulty . I never died in any dungeons , only the spirit tracks by evil choo-choo trains . The graphics for the overworld ( when you're riding in the train ) are unbelievable awful . I'm talking incredibly pixalated and very 2 - D looking . I was shocked at how bad the textures looked . The rest of the game looks great , especially in the dungeons . I just don't know what happened with the overworld . Its like they ran out of time or just didn't bother . Warping in this game blows . I felt like it took entirely too long to get from point A to point B . I don't know if they did this on purpose so you'd have more chances to catch bunnies or what but either way be prepared to spend a lot of time on the train . Previous titles let you warp to any warp point . This game has specific warp points , meaning a warp point in the forest realm takes you to exactly one corresponding warp point in another realm . You can't choose where to warp to . There's nothing new with drawing on the maps . This was an awesome feature in Phantom Hourglass ; it has not changed at all in this game . I was hoping for maybe a simple toolkit like colors or a keyboard or symbols - treasure chests , an X , warp symbols . Instead its just the exact same as it was in the last game . What rocks in this game : The boss fights are always good - even if the difficulty level isn't there . The latter dungeons have some great puzzles in them that use multiple rooms and levels to complete . Playing the spirit flute is actually a lot of fun . I really did feel like I was playing it . You have to learn songs , just like in Ocarina and Wind Waker . It looks surprisingly good too . Just don't try to play in an area with noise . I tried playing on the plane and it registered all the ambient noise as me trying to blow into the mic . So I had to cover up the mic with my thumb to control it . Finding all 50 bunnies is a great side quest , especially since you get rewarded multiple times for sub-accomplishments in this quest . Likewise finding the stamps was a fun side quest that kept me looking , and the reward for all 20 is worth it . Using Zelda for some of the puzzles was great . Once you get past the obvious have the phantom block the fire , there are some great puzzles involving different kinds of phantoms . This was a unique addition to this game that made the dungeons a lot of fun . If only she would just shut up during the rest of the game . The new whip weapon is awesome , as is the race mini-game . Length of the game is good if you do all or most of the side quests . If you just do the main quest the game would feel too short . Plus , lots of the fun of exploring the overworld is doing side quests , opening up new areas of tracks , and exploring those . Overall , this is another good Zelda game - but by no means does this push the envelope . I enjoyed playing it and will probably revisit it sometime down the road . If you're a Zelda fan , you know you're already going to get this game . If you're not , this is a good quest game but don't expect much depth in the way of story or characters .

    • 136 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) . . . Is what it should've been called . No ? Well , whatever you call it , The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks is a great game . It takes place about a hundred years after the events of The Legend of Zelda : Phantom Hourglass in a new Hyrule . Link is an apprentice train engineer , and he's just about to graduate from , er , engineer school . All that's left is the ceremony with Princess Zelda . But things go awry when someone close to Zelda betrays her and attempts to resurrect the demon king , Malladus . In the ensuing chaos , Zelda's body is stolen from her . Now , she and Link must team up to get it back and stop Malludus from awakening . With the help of the Lokomos , guardians of the land , they will face many dangers to save the day . The story here , for the most part , is generic Zelda . What makes it interesting is that Zelda has a much more active role than in previous games . She's got a lively , funny personality and helps make the story fun to follow . Even better , she comes into the gameplay in an interesting way . In her spirit form , Zelda can possess Phantoms , huge , seemingly empty suits of armor that patrol the Spirit Tower ( which you return to throughout the game ) . She can access places that Link cannot , and there are many interesting puzzles designed around this . Plus , it's laugh out loud funny to see a hulking Phantom act like a pre-teen girl . This game has a great sense of humor in general . It doesn't take itself too seriously , and affectionately mocks and the Zelda series . This made the cutscenes highly entertaining . Some are hilarious , and others downright touching . It helps that there are lots of good characters . I've already mentioned Zelda , but Link also has a lot of personality , despite his silence . The main villains ( besides Malladus , of course ) , were well done . Cole is an evil little man with a creepy laugh , while Byrne seems to be a more honorable villain . The former was probably my favorite character in the whole game . The characters do fall into definite character archetypes , but they're still memorable . Less memorable is the gameplay . It's still good ; after all , this is a Zelda game . But it's one of the weaker entries in the series . The worst part was riding the train . It keeps exploration to a minimum , and it takes a while to get to where you want to go . There are demon trains that give a one-hit-kill , and you often have to take circuitous routes to avoid them . There's a lot of backtracking , and there's hardly any interesting scenery . You can't just plan a route and leave your DS unattended , either , because enemies often pop up . You kill all of them in about the same way , and none of them are very challenging . There are several side-quests that require you to take cargo or passengers from point A to point B , and you have to follow inane train signals and avoid getting hit by enemies to complete them . Too many misses , and your cargo gets destroyed or your passenger goes home , and you have to start over . Also , you can't warp from just anywhere . There are certain gates you have to use , and they're paired together . This means you have to drive to the right warp point to get where you're going , which often requires a long ride . Also , it's hard to remember where each one links . You can write it down on the map , but it's hard to write small enough . The puzzles in Spirit Tracks also weren't particularly challenging . Younger children may have some trouble with them , but adults should have no problem figuring them out . I don't think I spent more than an hour on any of them . Still , I still liked them pretty well . Some of the final puzzles in the Spirit Tower were pretty hard . And it still felt somewhat rewarding to solve the easier ones . Also , there were several fun mini-games to play . This game utilizes the DS mic a lot , which wasn't my favorite feature . It's kind of annoying to have to bring the DS close to your face to blow when you're in the middle of a battle . And though I didn't personally have a problem , many players had trouble using the Spirit Flute , a pan pipe which you actually have to blow into to play . It's novel at first , but it can be annoying . As in Phantom Hourglass , the only thing you use to move Link is the stylus . If you didn't like the prequel , I can tell you right now that you won't like this one . But I thought the controls worked well , with the exception of making Link roll . Players had trouble with the circle motion in the previous game , and that's been changed . But now you do it by tapping the screen twice in the direction you want Link to roll . Easier , yes , but I often found myself executing a roll when I was trying to hit an enemy . The graphics in Spirit Tracks are good for the most part . The characters look great , and the villages are cute . The biggest downside to them is that so much of the country that you see by train looks the same . The music also doesn't have much variety . It's good at first , but it gets old fast . I did like the character themes a lot , however , and the cutscenes had excellent music . The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks is definitely not the best entry in the Zelda series . The train riding quickly wears thin , and the puzzles were too easy . But these things don't bring it down too much . Even weaker Zelda titles are still good ( well , maybe with the exception of Zelda II ) , and I did have fun playing it . And the excellent characterization and storytelling make up for a lot of the flaws . I had a fun time playing it . Pros : + Great storytelling and characters + Fun , though simple puzzle-solving + Good graphics and well produced cut-scenes + Fun mini-games Cons : - Train riding is tedious - Most of the puzzles are too easy - Mic is overused - Some don't like using the touchscreen so much Overall Score : B +

    • 138 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) The Spirit Tracks is an excellent addition to the Zelda franchise . Although its ' prequel the Phantom Hourglass was good , the constant backtracking almost ruined it for me . Luckily , that issue has been fixed in this game . The dungeons are wonderful as usual , great boss fights , and some tricky puzzles that are extremely rewarding to solve , ( but also frustrating if you can't figure out what to do ) The addition of having princess Zelda occupy a phantom knight make for some of the best puzzles in the series . Although an excellent handheld game and better than its prequel , it still falls behind the other Zelda games .

    • 143 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Legend of Zelda Spirit tracks So ive been playing legend of zelda spirit tracks for about 10 days now . this game has almost everything you would expect from your standard zelda game.New to this game is your main method of locomotion being a train as apossed to a ship or horse , as this progression goes i wouldnt be suprised if link was driving a model t ford in the next game.seriously though a train is a great vehicle both to move the story along and to get around in hyrule.the gameplay is challenging but acheivable and dungeons force you to use you noggin.customizable locomotives are a nice touch but really unnecessary to the game itself.I find that the cartoony graphics i hated on the gamecube work for the ds very well . Over all i found this game to be worth the effort to play and really fun if your having second thoughts about getting this game dont youll like it too .

    • 148 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) As the title of my review suggests , I think of this as more of a sequel to Phantom Hourglass . The game play is exactly the same . So , on that note , if you liked Phantom Hourglass , you'll enjoy this . HOWEVER , if you're really into your story , you may not be as enthused . There are bits and pieces of the game's story that you have to overlook because they're just so . . . out there . SPOILERS AHEAD For one , the evil demon king thing is trapped in a tower , which is kept in place by the Spirit Tracks that work kind of like an electrical line of goodness across the world . . . oh , and trains can conveniently ride on these tracks . My second issue is the princess . She's with you all the time . She's your Navi , so to speak . When I think of Zelda , I think of the princess of Hyrule . I think of someone who's deserving of the triforce of wisdom . It's a good thing this is an alternate universe , cause . . . well , she's an annoying little punk kid . Arrrghh . Rage . END OF SPOILERS If you can ignore small issues with the game , then it's not bad . Even as much stupid stuff there is , I can look past it and see a very solid and worthwhile game . As far as game mechanics go , certain aspects are annoying . The fact you have to drive everywhere on train is annoying . You can make a route and have it auto-drive there , but it still feels like it takes forever . Also , the flute . The flute is so damn annoying . It's a neat idea , and I'm glad we don't have to use it more than we do . But . . . I can't help but feel dumb blowing against my DS speaker for game play reasons . I certainly wouldn't play this in public for fear that people would think I'd gone crazy . If you skip all of the sidequests and just go through what's necessary , this game is amazingly short . If you really tried , you could have to done in a day . So , in closing - - I really did enjoy this game , but I think Phantom Hourglass did it better . Most of all , I think Phantom Hourglass had a better story and better characters . This is certainly worth a rental or borrowing from a friend , though .

    • 157 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) The only Zelda games I've beaten before this game were Link's awakening ( for Gameboy ) and A Link to the Past ( great SNES game ) I would have gotten Phantom hourglass except for the reviews noting its constant backtracking . I will note upfront that I'm not a fan of super cutesie Link . The graphics themselves are fine but everything about this game screams kiddie at the top of its lungs . All the cutscenes in the game are this way . But thats not why I give it a mediocre score . First the positive . The gameplay , for the most part , is fantastic . The touch screen controls are intuitive and fun to use . The puzzles , while not typically difficult , make good use of the gadgets you acquire along the way . This game is at it's best when you are making your way through the games various dungeons . Also , the main story is a good length , and there are many sidequests to do to keep you playing for a good long while . You certainly won't finish the game feeling like you you got ripped off . Now the negative in no particular order . For starters there is no spoken dialogue in this game , which is just as well I suppose because it probably would have been terrible and cutesy . Instead all you'll hear from the characters is Mario style gasps , grunts laughs , giggles , cackles and the like . The thing that really kills this game is the trains . Oh the trains . You will spend a signifigant portion of the game riding from place to place in your very own train . Problem is is that the it's just plain not fun . The train is slow . At times you will be constantly beset by monsters which you must tap on to to blow up with your canon . Not to mention the demon trains that you must avoid in getting from point A to point B . Often you will have to change your course mid fight with monsters which can be frustrating as the camera for the train pans painfully slow . I skipped all the sidequests in this game because it would have meant even more riding around in the freaking train . Also be prepared for solving puzzles in your train , and even bossfights in your train . Oh the joy . Also , this game makes extensive use of the microphone on the DS . The first weapon you get you must blow into the microphone to make it work , standing still and aiming your whirlwind thing and blowing into the mic isn't really intuitive in combat if you know what I mean . Also there are a fair number of parts involving the not so wonderful spirit flute . It starts off as a novelty thing in the beginning with 2 and 3 not songs but by the end you are up to 5 notes and it can be frustrating trying to get these songs right just so you can move on with the game . Lastly , the end cutscene is terrible and really does not reward you for playing all the way through the game . Nothing special to see at all . But at least the dungeons are fun right ? if you can ignore everything else you'll be fine , lol .

    • 160 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) This game will test your reflexes and coordination as much as any other touch based game , but it's the puzzles that put it over the top . Over and over again , I found myself stumped ; exploring the colorful environments , scribbling notes on the maps , experimenting with new items , always feeling like the solution is just out of my reach . Then when I finally got it , it was always so satisfying that I couldn't wait to jump back on the train and journey to the next chapter . The action is there as well , and with the multi-tasking required to guide two characters in the central dungeon , it will put your scribbling skills to the test , but it's the well-paced environmental puzzles that kept me glued to the screen . The presentation , including creative touch screen controls , the story , and the interface , are also polished to a sheen , so much so that I can't think of another handheld adventure game that even comes close . It's funny to hear the complaints in the reviews - - Zelda games have such a high standard that what can easily pass as the best portable game of the decade is rated down for the most trivial reasons and personal gripes ! Get it if you love a good challenge .

    • 162 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) First off let me start off by saying that I am huge Zelda fan and admit that my standards for the series is probably higher then most , but I just don't get the point of this game . Nintendo has been using the same formula with this series for years and each and every time it has worked . In fact if you look throughout the history of the Legend of Zelda series there top 3 least successful titles were Zelda games when that strayed away from the original formula although technically 2 of these are not made by Nintendo ( Zelda II the Adventure of Link , Zelda Wand of Gamelon and Zelda Link the Faces of Evil ) . So basically what you have with this game is a Bad Cloned version of Legend of Zelda Wind Waker , but instead of sailing and actually enjoying the game which had great music / story you get this a Zelda game with you riding a train and not enjoying yourself . Another thing that was really disappointing was the fact that the game is extremely short and little to no exploration / side quests and some of the worst music / story I have ever played from this series . Another idea Nintendo has yet to think of is there not catering to all gamers with the Nintendo DS they should release 2 versions of the game one where you don't need to use the touch screen or stylus and the other for the people that actually thoroughly enjoy it that way . I personally believe that using a Wii Remote or Stylus on the Touchpad does a great injustice to this series , but am willing to suffer , because the games are usually pretty good ( the stylus / touchscreen did not change my vote in any way ) . So I guess all that is left to be said is see for yourself . This is personally my 2nd least favorite Zelda game ever created and should not be rated higher then a 3 .

    • 164 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) This is almost the worst Zelda game i have ever played ( i am a big Zelda fan ) . I have all release of Zelda and this one is like the 3rd party cd-i games. It is not that fun . If your looking for a good Zelda game for the DS get the phantom hour glass way more fun . I was hoping for a rely good game but it was disappointing when i played it . The train takes away from the open world and makes it vary slow and painful to play . If your a casual gamer you might like it but this is a sit down for an hour or so just to get any where and its not that grate for a quick game every so often .

    • 169 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) I felt that this game was extremely entertaining , and was worthy of being an heir to the Zelda throne . However , it just didn't feel like the game was as enjoyable as it's predecessor , Zelda : Phantom Hourglass . The main reason for this , I think , is the world map , and Link's new method of travel . Traveling by train felt , to me , more time-consuming and redundant . In addition to the time consumed by traveling alone , there is also the risk you face of dying to the indestructible evil trains if you aren't paying attention , which becomes an issue the more time you have to spend on the tracks . And believe me , you WILL be spending a lot of time going over the same old spirit tracks , again , and again , and again , and again . . . Also , the side-games felt a little stale and uninspiring . I remember spending a lot of time in the archery game in Phantom Hourglass AFTER I completed the game , but by the time I finished Spirit Tracks , I didn't feel like doing anything again . Somehow the replay value just wasn't very high for me . Despite these issues , Spirit Tracks is still very enjoyable . The challenges felt a little tougher this time around ( which is a positive for me ) , and the storyline is as immersive as ever .

    • 175 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) This game is amazing in every way and is a must buy !
    • 177 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) I am a ( new ) fan of Zelda games and have beaten two . ( Ocarina of Time and A Link two the Past ) I loved them . Obviously i asked for this for Christmas . This may be the best Zelda yet ! I love the train and the game play is both fun and indicting . I give it five stares for being a work of art . There are many pros but two things disappointed me . . . One : I was looking foreword to having the Phantom as a regular companion . But since you can only have him for a small portion I am disappointed . The time when you are with the Phantom is the funnest in the game . Two : ( minor ) I loved Link's engineer suit . I was hoping he would put it on in the train . . . But other than that it is a great game . Jan 15 , 2010 : I am now farther in the game . It is still keeping me on board ! It would be getting better and better except that the train is starting to get a little tedious . But it mainly is the rabbit hunting that annoys me . But every game has a con . And I am doing to much complaining to do justice to the amount of fun this game is .

Well , I was wrong , because Spirit Tracks is everything that I wanted in Phantom Hourglass . It was fun , challenging , and it improved on what Phantom Hourglass had . Now , this is my first review , so I'm not sure as to what I should say . • 182 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Let me put this simply : I have NEVER played The Phantom Hourglass , or any other games in the Legend of Zelda franchise . But , when I found out that there was a new game in the works , one involving trains , the train fan in me took controll , and I bought it when it came out . I was blown away at the qualty of the game . The main character is Link , or in this game , any thing you want to name him , but for this review , we will call him Link . Link is aprentacing under the comand of Alfonzo , one of Hyrule's best train enginers ( Link ain't half bad either . ) Upon his raduation to full engineer , Link has his first encounter with the princess Zelda , who becomes his companion on one of the biggest adventures of his life . Zelda's guardian , the somewhat menacing Chancelor Cole , who as it turns out attemps to use Zelda's body ( Zelda's spirit not included ) to awaken an ancient evil , defeated by the first natives to settle Hyrule . Link , along side Zelda's spirit aretasked with restoring the ancient Spirit Tracks that once linked Hyrule , but , thanks to Chancelor Cole , have mysteriously dissapeared . The game is great , loads of fun , and had a rich storyline .

    • 184 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Phantom Hourglass was the first Zelda game that I played , and despite its incredible creativity , I still could not say that I like it much , due to its bland and childish dialogues , simplistic , though creative , boss fights , predictable storyline , and the fact that it forced me to go through the same dungeon for so many times . Seeing Spirit Tracks using the same engine and similar game mechanics to its predecessor , I did not hold it with high regards until I actually started playing it . While indeed there are so many aspects of this game that is similar to Phantom Hourglass , they are significantly improved . For example , the landscape is much more varied and spectacular . Riding a train is much more challenging than sailing a boat due to new obstacles that could kill you instantly . There are new gadgets that creatively employ the DS mic , such as the pinwheel and the spirit flute . Music is very beautiful and no longer sounds like midi . Boss fights are also made more difficult and divided into phases , so you will need to come up with more than 1 strategy in order to defeat each boss . There are few things that I also would like to complain , though . First , the game is almost as linear as Phantom Hourglass . You will proceed through the game in the same fashion over and over again . For example , you have to clear a floor in the spirit tower to unlock a new region , then go find a Lokomo to gain access to the temple , then clear the temple and defeat the boss to gain access to a new floor in the spirit tower , and then go to spirit tower to unlock a new region and so on . Storyline is even more shallow than the predecessor , and if not for the addictive gameplay , the game would have been boring . Control with touchpen is at times clunky and frustrating ( especially when you have to control Zelda / Phantom ) . Overall , this game is highly recommended for everyone , regardless of whether you like Phantom Hourglass or not . However , if you plan to play Phantom Hourglass also for whatever reason , do not play this game first , as it will make Phantom Hourglass very boring . Also do not let yourself turned off from Zelda series solely because of this game , as the other games in Zelda series are somewhat better than this one .

    • 188 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) This was a pretty good zelda game . Definetly better than that crapy game Phantom Hourglass . I have benn a zelda game ever since my older brother introduced me to Zelda . Personaly I think that the old games are better than the new ones . My favorite was probably Ocarina of Time although A Link to the Past was really good too . This game however brought some of the old games features back like an instrument . The spirit flute was kind of like the ocarina the way yo blow into it but is nowhere near the wind waker . I also liked some of the new items . Overall The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks is a good game . Also if you are looking to buy this for someone you should probably stick to the rating ( 10 + ) because some parts are pretty challenging . Trust me I beat the game .

    • 193 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) This is another game in the legend of Zelda series that may end what the Wind Waker started . This game took place at least at least 100 years after Phantom Hourglass and Wind Waker . In this game , you ride on a train trying to restore the spirit tracks . This time , you can have the help of Zelda's spirit to overcome phantoms and get some extra help . I don't want to ruin the story for you so I will stop here . This is a great game for Zelda lovers .

    • 198 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) Quite good , overall . For those of you who may not know , Spirit Tracks is a direct sequel to the previous Zelda title for the DS , Phantom Hourglass , which was itself a direct sequel to Wind Waker . It has very much the same visual style and playing feel . Without wanting to spoil more than about the first half hour , the premise is as follows : Link is a young train-engineer trainee about to receive his diploma and the certificate that will permit him to drive solo . He lives in New Hyrule , which is covered in the Spirit Tracks - a network of shackles binding the Demon King , which serve double duty as train tracks . However , there is a man in the court of Princess Zelda ( who , as usual , is a princess without any reigning relatives ) who wants to destroy these tracks and release the Demon King . To complete his plans , he only needs one more thing - Zelda's body . The controls are very much the same as in Hourglass , but somewhat streamlined ; for instance , instead of drawing a small circle at the edge of the screen to roll , you now simply double-tap your target . Overworld movement is accomplished by following a route drawn on the map - along the tracks , naturally - but there's considerable option for rerouting at the track switches . This is good , because the tracks are also inhabited by bomb trains , which are slightly faster than your train's maximum speed and can instantly destroy it in a single collision . Naturally , they're armored , so your cannon can't hurt them . Like Hourglass , Tracks has only a few major dungeons , interspersed with return trips to a central dungeon - in this case , the Tower of Spirits . Unlike in Hourglass , though , you don't have to retrace all the previous floors each time you return to the Tower . As usual , each dungeon grants you a tool that is used to defeat the dungeon's boss . My favorite boss battle was with the bow - using a minecart to get to where I could shoot the shiny patches on a lava colossus . Some Zelda veterans will be pleased with the tool selection , and others displeased - the traditional boomerang , bombs , and bow return , joined by the new Whirlwind ( similar to the Gust Jar from Minish Cap ) , Whip ( largely similar to the Hookshot or Grappling Hook ) , and the Sand Staff . I was rather disappointed in the Whip - it lacks the ability to tow Link to treasure chests or other heavy items , and has less range and combat power than Hourglass's Grappling Hook . Music plays a significant role in this game - one of the first things Link gets is the Spirit Flute , a set of panpipes that can be played with the touchscreen and microphone . In addition to several tunes that can be used at any time and may unlock various bonuses or areas , there are several duets involving Link and an NPC that unlock new tracks . This game contains several bonuses for people who have played Hourglass ; for instance , after a certain point you can obtain the Shield of Antiquity , used by Hourglass ! Link , which is the only place the Triforce appears in the whole game . Several characters , including Link and Zelda , are officially the descendants of their Hourglass equivalents , and one of the pirates from Wind Waker and Hourglass shows up as an old man . All in all , this game lives up to my expectations of new Zelda games . Well done , Nintendo .

    • 203 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) I don't have much to say how good and bad for this game as it's quite repeatable . For me , I really enjoy this game . I also feel the flute's part is fun . The puzzles are good , some of them are easy and some of them you gotta really think and figure out a way to get it done . However , I don't like much about the train's part that you need to ride the train from place to place . It just slowed the flow of the story somehow . Anyway , for $25 dollars to own this famous series of game and just released a month , it's a steal I think . Besides , as a parent like me , you should aware , there are many games having too much violence , and the idea behind is insane even they are rated as teen , I don't need to worry much for my kids playing this game .

    • 206 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) If we would have rated this game in the first 5 hours of gameplay , this would have probably been a 5 out of 5 stars game . Most of the problems of the original were fixed , there was less or no repetition , very good puzzles and a great story . A win-win for the gamers . Unfortunately though , it turns out that the developers don't know their fans . The game becomes insanely difficult towards the end . Puzzles become completely illogical and require a lot of trial and error for solving them . What adds to the frustration is that this is a portable game and many times , you won't be playing this in a place where you have a pen / paper close . And no , can't use the screen , when this spans multiple levels . Controls - never an issue before - become extremely frustrating . You basically have to control 2 characters and select multiple items , while timed events happen . Considering how much you have to do , maybe the stylus control shouldn't have been the best choice for this particular game . Many times you know what you have to do , yet can't do it because of the stylus control . The game is so difficult that no kid could play and finish this by himself . This is pretty much designed for adults . Playing the flute and using the tornado - were all great ideas , but are overused . Who wants to be somewhere in public and keep blowing in the microphone ? ? Overall - this is a big disappointment . Hate to say it , but the Ocean Temple suddenly sounds like fun . . . Hope the next Zelda will be better .

    • 209 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) The game is kind of in the same vein as Phantom Hourglass . But where Phantom Hourglass was more action oriented , Spirit Tracks is more puzzle-oriented . This might be appealing to some , but I felt like the hints the game left were extremely vague . I also thought the train ride sequences were extremely tedious ( same could be said for Phantom Hourglass , but that game at least left you room / reason to explore ) and very frequently made simple tasks overly difficult . The actual gameplay is generally pretty fun , albeit fairly easy .

    • 211 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) What annoyed me about Phantom Hourglass was the return to the same dungeon over and over again . I did not find it fun and after a while I found it a chore to play . I was initially impressed with the use of stylus but I really wished there was a button scheme as well . Spirit Tracks uses the stylus input system just like Phantom Hourglass with no option to use the buttons . I thought the boat in Phantom Hourglass was not that great but little did I know that the train would be even more irritating to travel with . The train system and the use of the flute ( blowing into the mic ) ruined the game for me . The story is not powerful or intriguing , either . This is a rental at best , skip the purchase and wait for the next one with better controls and gameplay mechanics .

    • 213 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) dont even know why this game is called Spirit Tracks because a more apt title would have been Phantom Hourglass with trains . Instead of a boat , we are now given a train to operate . You arent able to actually explore the game and your forced to specific train trackss set across this tiny world . You can go normal speed , fast , stop , or reverse which is all you can do with your train . You get a cannon later on which makes the train portion even worse than it already is and you have a gimmicky horn to use for the sake of being a gimmick . You cant actually enjoy a peaceful stroll down the countryside and are instead forced to shoot and kill the various pigs , birds , pirates , snowmen , etc . that attack you and your given 4 measly hits . Sure you can always get more health for your train , but you cant actually do that until the mid-point and even then , the chances of you having the rare treasure it requires to get new parts is slim to none . There are even bomb-trains as I call them out on the tracks that will chase you and kill you instantly . There is no way to slow these down or destroy them and more often than not you will get corned by 2 of them and die , again , because there is nothing you can do . It becomes a boring chore just to attempt to go from Point A to Point B while in your train , and 90% of the time , mostly because of bomb-trains , it ends up being Point A to Point C , than D , than E , and so on before you reach your destination . Anytime you have a passenger riding with you is annoying as well and if they get mad enough , they simply get off and your forced to pick them back up again and start the whole process over again . Didnt honk your horn ? They get angry . Went to fast ? They get angry . Went to slow ? They get angry . These people will get angry about anything which makes the train portions even more boring , gimmicky , and pointless . The dungeons and bosses themselves are simply pathetic . There is a reason why this is rated for 10 - year-olds , because these dungeons were catered to 10 - year-olds . Whatever happened to the reasonably difficult dungeons from the previous games that actually made you think ? In this game your brain really isnt required , especially when you can write down anything you need to know because God-forbid you cant remeber something for a few seconds . This game is also more repetitive than Phantom Hourglass was . Go do a few floors in the spirit tower , go to the main dungeon , get side tracked because you have to solve everyones problems , learn a pointless song you will never use , get inside dungeon , kill boss , rinse and repeated another 6 times and the game is over . Whoever decided that this was ever a good idea to begin with and thought it would be ingenious to bring it back again should be shot . The only redeeming quality about it being repetitive is that the primary dungeon doesnt have a timer and you dont have to repeat floors that you already cleared . The controls are also horrible . Say for instance you wanted to use the whirlwind item . You would have to open up the menu , select it , tap the icon in the corner , point in the direction you want to use it , and blow into the mic . In other words , plenty of free hits for the enemies . The same directions are the same things you have to do for the other items as well . Not the mention , the pan flute is annoying and pointless . I got tired of having the blow into the mic to use it after the first time , and than I got annoyed with it after the 30th time . The constant mic use is just annoying , gimmicky , and pointless . It would have not hindered this game to add in D-Pad controls , but no , Nintendo had to make this game for the crowd of casual gamers that think its revolutionary to have touch-screen controls that make a bad game worse than it already is . Simply put , this game was trash . It was the same un-enjoyable experience I had with Phantom Hourglass years ago and little to nothing was improved . In fact , they managed to take the same game and make it worse . Skip this garbage and go find something decent to play .

    • 215 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) When i heard spirit tracks was coming out i thought ohno not another phantom hourglass , and with the added wtf factor of making link an engineer , it seemed kinda gimmicky . Well , i'm here to tell you that is not the case ! It feels like they took everything that was crap from phantom hourglass and dumped it . Very nice controls , very nice graphics ( for the DS ) , and ofcourse very nice gameplay that pushes the limits of what the zelda series is capable of ! Even the train riding is awesome . My only complaint so far is the story seems kinda lame so far , even though i know zeldas aren't supposed to have incredible storylines . Also it seems really short , i played for a day , and beat the first two temples . Supposedly im already halfway done if there really are only 4 areas and 4 temples . Anyways , besides that it's great , get it if you're interested .

    • 217 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) I love zelda and was so excited to play this game . That being said , I HATE that I have to use the mic for so many elements . I hate playing the flute , I hate having to make random noises just to move through conversation . To be honest , I got through the Ocean Realm and put the game down because it was so annoying .

    • 221 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks is a game one should only purchase if they answer yes to the following questions : 1 . Do you like playing games were developers find ways to artificial extend gameplay at the expense of the player ? 2 . Did you like Majora's Mask ? 3 . Does the idea of controlling character movement by touch screen seems like a good idea ? If you can answer yes to these question , in particular 1 and 3 , then you should give this game a try . If not then you should pass on this game , or at least wait for it to come down in price . The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks is actually rather short in length compared to Phantom Hourglass , the only reason it seems longer is because of train travel . The train can only travel on tracks , tracks that a little later in the game are patrolled by demon trains , which forces the player to take longer routes to avoid them . Factor this with the fact that your train , even on the highest speed setting is slow as hell , makes for a very dull and boring experience . Most of your time playing this game will in fact be spent on the train . For this reason alone Spirit Tracks gets 1 star and I would recommend you avoid this game at all cost or if you must , purchase Phantom hourglass . As for the controls it seems to have gotten worse compared to Phantom Hourglass . Precision in controls , even while controlling the train , and the fact that they changed rolling to two taps of the screen instead of the loop to loop motion can lead to accidental damage or death while playing . This issue however is minor , and one could play this game without being bothered by it too much . If you're the type of person that prefers , or would have preferred the option to use the D-Pad , try the game out before you buy it or just avoid it . Finally the game itself is not much better than Phantom Hourglass . If you played Phantom Hourglass before , you pretty much already played this game sans trains . Although the conversations between Link and Zelda are cool , and she makes a good side kick , the story is truly no better than Phantom Hourglass . In some respects , it's worse . Spirit Tracks is the Majora's Mask of the DS , so to those of you that didn't care for Majora's Mask shouldn't bother with Spirit Tracks . Otherwise don't be surprised if you experience a lot of been there , done that . If you're a big Zelda fan and Nintendo can do no wrong ever , have fun with Spirit Tracks . If you're a gamer and want the best money can buy , I'd tell you to wait for a lower price or avoid this game entirely . If you are going to buy this game , make sure you research it / try it out before you buy it . You've been warned .

    • 223 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) After the monotony of playing Phantom Hourglass , I was really looking forward to a more interesting game based on all the positive reviews I'd read . Unfortunately , I have just given up on the game and would rate Spirit Tracks as one of the WORST games in the series . Here's some reasons why : The train-related gameplay is incredibly boring and feels like a whole lot of unnecessary padding between dungeons and towns . Imprecise controls make a mess of trying to effectively use the camera while aiming the train cannon at enemies . Route planning feels inaccurate and often leads to collision with enemy trains which result in instant death . In the first part of the game , two major gameplay mechanics are introduced which both depend on the player blowing into the microphone . One of these is a wind weapon which is needed with specific enemies that will otherwise cause damage to the player if regular attacks are used . Unfortunately , there is a detachment between using the stylus to aim the weapon and then moving your face to the microphone to blow . This creates a situation where you can't look at the screen properly while the enemies you're trying to kill move out of the weapons path and score cheap hits on you . Less talk , more action . The environment provides a rich visual narrative which is then hampered by endless chatter from NPC's . Going back and playing the original Legend of Zelda , you'll notice just a few lines of dialogue drive the entire game forward . These days Nintendo seems eager to write an entire novel's worth of dialogue which really slows the game down to a crawl . I would love a version of this game that streamlined the train part of the game and offered an optional control scheme to replace the microphone .

I was very dissappointed . The whole story and game is quite simple , boring and silly . In my opinion , it is not a game for adults . I did not have the patience necessary to finish it all the way to the end .

    • 232 4  There are over 2500 video games for the Nintendo DS . 95% are junk . The Legend Of Zelda : Spirit Tracks is one of the absolute best . Ask yourself this : Do I Like Quality ? - Or Am I A Monkey ? NO SPOILERS I am not a professional critic . I'm a consumer . Which means I don't play games for free and trash them for money . 10 BEST DS GAMES OF ALL TIME ACCORDING TO MY TALKING THUMBS ALL OF WHICH I'M PROUD TO OWN PURCHASED NEW WITH COLD HARD CASH 1 - Advance Wars : Dual Strike 2 - The Legend Of Zelda : Spirit Tracks 3 - New Super Mario Bros . 4 - Mario Kart DS 5 - Mario & Luigi : Bowser's Inside Story 6 - Meteos 7 - Rune Factory 8 - Scribblenauts 9 - Fire Emblem : Shadow Dragon 10 - The World Ends With You Spirit Tracks is better than Phantom Hourglass . I only put the best of each franchise on my list . I'm afraid you and I are just going to have to live with that . It's my list . You want a different list , post your own , Babaganoush . Sometimes , like with this game , Spirit Tracks , I wish Nintendo would ignore the rest of the world and just make the game I want them to make . Maybe they could fly me to Japan and I'll give them specific design or art advice . I don't speak Japanese , but I can point and nod with precision . I could poke Miyamoto in the shoulder until he agrees to my changes . Then maybe , because I'm awesome , every Nintendo game would get a 100% on Metacritic . Because every true gamer agrees on the definition of OMG ! . ( But when a game really gives me a strong Frownface : ( I punish Electronic Arts by renting first or buying used , because you got to punch them in ol ' the digitalnutsack . ) I bought Zelda : ST new with cash at my local [ coughcough ] because I just couldn't # & @ % wait ! LIKES / DISLIKES For example , If I was Japanese I would nod a lot . Zelda : ST is a touchscreen game . My wife likes Touch games because she can play them with her nipple . And I like to watch . I have an extra large stylus , which she feels is too big and sometimes hurts . Sometimes she likes to watch me play , but she'll help by blowing . Zelda's main plot is 25 hours long and this requires a lot of blowing from my wife . I'm tall and can't reach . The princess art is mildly erotic , but I doubt any kids would drool . I'm just particularly sensitive to large-headed empowered women . Basically , even though I'm American , and I think American , and I talk and write American , That's okay . This games would totally get mostly nods , and I would only poke Miyamoto a few times , but he would already understand , and Just Smile , because he's ticklish and knows that even 5 - star games have 4 - star moments , but they ain't gonna spank the fun ( He said that in Japanese and I translated but I think his words were different because I couldn't hear because he was tickling me because that's what it's like to experience the Nintendo Seal Of Quality . BUY IT . PLAY iT . LOVE IT .

    • 092 4  This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) I LOVED Phantom Hourglass , so I was really looking forward to the arrival Spirit Tracks . I like the graphics , the music , the addition of the pan-flute . What I DON'T like are games ( like this ) where I find it almost impossible to get through the game without looking up the on-line cheats . For example : one site said I had to go to some random spot on the game and toot the pan flute because there was something buried there . . . . . . which I NEVER would have known because I don't stop every few steps on each level to blow that flute . I am tired of traveling around in the train . . . . it IS monotonous . Just as someone else said . . . . . I ALSO have only half finished this game and I haven't touched it in a couple of months . The biggest reason that I haven't sold this game already is because you CAN do some multiplayer mini-games with other DS owners who don't have a game card . My kids REALLY like playing those mini-games with me . . . . . so seeing as I have to keep the game , I'm sure I'll finish it at some point . For me , Phantom Hourglass was a much better purchase .

    • 140 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks ( Video Game ) This game is extremely similar to Phantom Hourglass , but I did not find it as much fun . This is mostly due to the train rides being so tedious . The ocean trips in PH could feel pretty long , but once you were able to warp where you wanted to , it made it a lot better . With Spirit Tracks , you eventually can warp elsewhere , but it takes a while to figure out which warp sends you where . I hate the demon trains . They are pointless as they are easily avoidable but in avoiding them your train ride becomes EVEN LONGER . . . ! I like that you can take control of Zelda and have your own phantom ( so-to-speak ) that you can control . There is less exploring involved in ST than PH . There is no deviating from the tracks between stations . The towns seem smaller and have less to find than the islands of PH . As with PH , the dialogue can become annoying as well and you just keep hitting the button to get through it asap so you can move on . A lot of the bosses are virtually identical to PH . You cannot find nearly as many rupees in this game compared to PH and there is no shovel for digging any up either . Still , the new whip tool is pretty cool , and I always enjoy the Zelda games . I've beaten this game already but am now going back to finish collecting everything etc . Sometimes I wish collecting everything was included BEFORE you could win . That would make the game a little longer at least . All-in-all , it was worth buying and entertained me in my spare time during the Christmas break .
