This game is cool . You can't get married , but you can have a girl friend . ( Katie 3 , Gwen , Dia , Gina . )
You can't have sheep , but you have to catch your dog . You have a choice between a sheperd mix and some mix . And you can ride your horse around town . You have to feed them EVERYDAY . There are only 3 crops , you CAN sell flowers , and there are no festivals . There are 9 different endings and the people move in real time . There are tons of cinamas and you get a flute to train your dog to herd cows , sit stay and all that stuff . Your horse grows to love you and gets faster . You can sell most of the stuff you make in your kitchen and you dont have to provide wood for it ! Overall , GREAT GAME !
036 4 This is a Harvest Moon unlike any other in the series . While Harvest Moon back to nature was hardly antying but a port souped up for the playstation , this one is totally different . These graphics are amazing , from a first person viewpoint . It seems as if this harvest moon is for a mature audience , as it isnt near as sunny , in fact , it is misty and foggy in the whole game . The enviroment takes alot to get used to , and you get alot of different things in the game you dont get from the other games . But the huge complaint i have with this game is YOU CANT DATE GIRLS ! Thats the most fun of the other games so why did they leave this out ? they have plenty of space in the game , do they just not care ? If i knew this before buying it , i would have definatley thought twice about buying it . But it is a great game and you should check it out , especially if you are a fan of the others in the series . 003 4 Who would've thought playing a game where you raise chickens , plant crops and milk cows could be so much fun ? I certainly had my doubts .
My fiance bought this game for me , but wound up playing it when I ( a major RPG fan ) decided that the game couldn't possibly be interesting . The strange thing is - - it is !
After watching Harvest Moon : StH for several hours ( she hasn't let me play yet ) , I've got to say that this is one addictive game !
Graphics : 7 / 10 Not the greatest graphics , but it has the typical Japanese anime-style graphics with cute dogs and characters with large heads and feet . My only complaint is that you can't really tell mature cows ( who give M milk ) from young cows ( who give S milk ) , but it's not a big thing .
Sound : 8 / 10 Your chickens cluck ( and make an awful racket ! ) and your cows moo , but aside from that , the music is upbeat and changes with the seasons . I particularly liked how the cicadas chirped during the summer month - - a nice touch and it reminded me of when I was living in Japan during the summer .
Gameplay : 6 / 10 Okay , the only serious downfall to this game is the camera angles and the difficulty to properly position your character to do certain actions . When you're watering your crops , 10 out of 10 times , you will miss watering at least one of your crops a day . The problem with this ? Your character tires while doing chores , so for each missed watering , you'll have to do it again , which means your character will tire faster . Plus , 10 seconds = 10 game minutes , so you'll lose precious time , too . And then , there's the difficulty herding your cows into and out of your barn . Going out isn't a problem , as time stands still when you're indoors , but when it's 5 : 00 in the afternoon , your cows are outside grazing and it's going to rain the next day , it gets really frustrating when it takes five game hours to herd in 3 cows .
Replay value / fun : 10 / 10 The fun in this is making things work and the monotony of things is actually a good thing . The tedium of doing your chores and trying to get some time in to go fishing , sell your food stuffs or talk to people is all part of the game and it's even better when you can actually afford to buy a kitchen and make your own food ! In terms of replay , this game is just like real life , in that the game never has to end . You can pick off from where you left off when the game ( year ) ends and you can try working for a different ending ( there are nine in all ) .
I love this game for so many reasons and I recommend it for RPG lovers ( who don't mind doing some repetitive chores ) and kids , as it teaches them the value of hard work , friendship and responsibility . And the best part of it all is , this is a fun game that doesn't need violence to keep the player satisfied !
004 4 Being a big fan of the Harvest Moon series , I was looking forward to an updated version for my Playstation 2 . I figured it would have a more elaborate story line with even more interaction with the characters in the game ( which to me was always the best part of the game ) . I was happy at first that you have a smaller barn and a smaller field ( because sometimes milking and feeding 20 animals in Back to Nature could become very tedious ) . The problem is that there really isn't all that much to do in the game . You have to establish good relationships with other characters to win the game but it really isn't much of a challenge . There are 9 different endings to the game but as long as you read the instruction book , it really isn't very tricky to get any of them . All you really have to do is butter up the right people and the ending is yours but you'll end up with a lot of time on your hands waiting for those people to show up at your farm . You get to start over each time you get an ending and keep all of your improvements ( except for your sickle for some odd reason ) and animals but then there is really no challenge at all . I stopped farming all together by the second time through because I had so much money , there wasn't much of a point . All you have to do each time is to make friends with everyone again and be careful that you don't talk to the wrong people because you might accidentally trigger a different ending than you want ( and you'll have to watch the cinemas each time you trigger them which can be pretty dull ) . I did like that your dog can help you herd your cattle in and that you can ride your horse all over the village but there were a lot of things that could have made this a great game . I really was disappointed that you couldn't date and get married which was one of the best parts of other Harvest Moon games . I also missed the festivals and other special events like they had in Back to Nature . There were also only four crops to choose from and cooking is very limited . It just seems this game is really short and very repetitive . I really would have liked to see more interesting endings and more interaction with the townspeople . If you are looking for a Harvest Moon game , I would suggest trying Back to Nature ( for Playstation 1 ) instead of this game .

008 4 I'm sorry to say that this is my first Harvest Moon game , beause I love it ! I'm not one of those people who likes the most popular games , so I wanted to get somehing a little different . This game was on sale , so I picked it up and loaded it into the Ps2 and began playing . It's an easy game to figure out , but not too easy . After an hour or two , I was addicted . The graphics and songs are very cute and the gameplay has a cute concept . Working your way through the four seasons ( summer , wintr , spring , and fall that is ) you must purchase , sell , and raise animals , grow and sell crops , develop relationships , and eventually cook up some things in the kitchen . Personally , the cooking is my favorite part . After buying , harvesting , or gathering crops in the forest , you can experiment with different recipes in the kitchen . Eventually , you'll be making yourself eggs for breakfast , soup for lunch , and maybe even some jam or cake for dessert . If you're the type of person who enjoys different and unique games , Harvest Moon : Save the Homeland is for you .

But it's still great , wonderfully involving , and less tedious ( no cutting wood ! yippie ! ) . In the game there is a whole new cast of characters , which means more people to get to know . Some of the new characters are very likable , and have comlex personalitys , from Dia's slightly unstable snobbishness to Louis's klutzy inventions . And Lyla's love for romance , and Gwen's tomboyishness and love for animals . There are 9 solutions to the game - each with wonderful cinemas . And of course the most exciting thing - the wonderful new high-color graphics and everyone moves in real time . There's tons of items to forage , recipes , you can choose from six horses , choose from two dogs . The sound effects and music are wonderful , and a big improvement . Also they've taken the raising of cattle and crops to a new level - and they've made it much more realistic . you must earn the trust of your pets by brushing them daily . and the crops will wither if not watered , or they can be blown away easily by natural disasters . so you must use careful planning . the entire farm looks much better , and much more like a real farm . I wasn't sure if i was going to love this game - or even like it . And though it's a dissapointment some of the best features were left out ( i.e . marriage - i really think it was a mistake to leave this one out - it's one of the features that made the past games so unique . ) i can still say it was worth my money , and provided hours of gameplay ! : )

011 4 By my count there are about 6 or 7 Harvest Moon games out there for various systems , so Natsume must be doing something right . In fact , they recently released number 3 for the Gameboy Color .
On Save the Homeland , the graphics are much improved ( obviously ) from any other version on the market . I have been playing it now for just a couple days , and I am already hooked . From what I read , the game focuses more on interaction with the townspeople than it does making money . I don't really agree with this ; making money seems to be the primary goal . Plus , the people that I keep running into on an ( hourly ) basis don't have a whole lot to say or do . They are just sort of roaming around , and tell you some little cheesy statement about life .
I do have one question ; where in the . . . is the dog food ?

You can forage berries , herbs , walnuts , flowers , and much more , and sell them inside the buildings . You can also milk your cows and collect eggs from the animals . But the most fun part of the game is the endings . There are 9 endings to choose from , and you have a year ( 120 days ) to complete one . The endings are the ways you complete the game . They encourage you to build relationships with the characters , who still have birthdays and favorite items . The only fault in Harvest Moon : Save The Homeland is the fact that you can not get married . Overall , this is one of the best games I have ever played .

To tell you the truth , I love MOST Harvest Moon games . This game was fun at first , but when I found out you can't get married ( you get kissed on the cheek by your girlfriend after the credits ) , and you only play a year , and then just keep all of your animals , money , etc , but not your friendship with people in town . I was really nice with those stars . If this is your first Harvest Moon game , I'd say you'd better be ready for only a few things , like the following :
you should be able to read , patience , and having to do the same thing about 60 times .

This game was fun at first , but when I found out you can't get married ( you get kissed on the cheek by your girlfriend after the credits ) , and you only play a year , and then just keep all of your animals , money , etc , but not your friendship with people in town . I was really nice with those stars . If this is your first Harvest Moon game , I'd say you'd better be ready for only a few things , like the following :
you should be able to read , patience , and having to do the same thing about 60 times .

put weeds in your dog's dish instead of food
you don't have to fertillize your field
no need to spend millions on making a bigger house , because it is always tiny
you can get a small job
choose what your horse looks like ( only talk to the one horse you want )

I have played other Harvest Moon games and I like them all , and I like this one too . The only problem is that you only get one year . In the other games , you can form lasting relationships , get married , even have kids , get divorced , remarry , etc . year after year . This one starts you from scratch after a year ( you lose ) or you manage to save the homeland ( you win ) . You get to keep your stuff , but all the relationships start over . It's cool that there are different endings , but I lost interest after the second one - and that's only because I was putting up a brave face since the kids got it for me for Christmas and I didn't want them to feel bad ! I was pretty disgusted the minute I realized I'd lost all the ground I'd gained just cause I beat the game .

019 4 My girlfriend and I had been looking for a game that we can play together . I love video games , and she likes them , but she doesn't like to play a lot of the games that I do . After some thinking , I proposed the idea of Harvest Moon : a fun little game about farming . Surprisingly enough , she agreed to give it a try . This was a great purchase ; we both absolutely love the game and really enjoy playing it together .
The premise of the game is that your grandfather recently passed away and left you his farm . You take over the farm , but the village is in trouble . If you can't find a way to save the village in one year , the village will be destroyed . There are nine possible endings , each one saving the village . While farming is important , it is the interactions and relationships with the other characters that are stressed .
It is up to you to do the day to day tasks of watering your crops , feeding the animals , brushing them , milking them , gathering eggs , and interacting with your neighbors . If at the end of the year you have failed to accomplish an ending ( I was so close ! ) , you have to start the game over , but you get to keep all of your possessions , animals , and money . You do have to start all over as far as the relationships go , but this is the same as if you got an ending . With 9 endings in all , you can keep playing and focusing on different people and different things .
This is a true family game and is a lot of fun to play . I'm really glad that I found a game I can play with my girlfriend and we both can enjoy it . I'm surprised that a farming game is this much fun !

The others made you feel guilty , becuase if you weren't doing one thing as much as another , then you felt guilty . Say you were working hard on your crops in HM64 , but were doing a poor job on your social life . That could hurt you , but then if you shifted even a bit , it could hurt your farm . This one spends less time on farming , and more time on saving the homeland ! If you like the farming part , then dont worry , because you still farm . The farming is much easier , because every hour is about a minute in our time ! Less land to farm on , and the grass is already growing for you , and you never have to replant it ! I recomend this game to everyone !

023 4 I'm being a bit hard on this game because I was so disappointed . The other Harvest Moon games were much better as far as game play goes . The graphics were great - the characters looked very cute and childlike , adding to the charm of Harvest Moon . But it was a complete letdown to find that as soon as you save the homeland the year starts over back in spring ( no matter what day of year it is ) and no one in town seems to remember who you are . If you had a love interest , forget it . You have to introduce yourself to her all over again . So the idea of family life is squashed . Each time you save the town you get a new icon displayed on your saved game page . I have 3 and yet I still haven't made it to see a winter yet . You can only make a handful of recipes and they are too simple and boring . Nothing like the complex recipes that came with Back to Nature . You don't get to decide where your crops and grass grow either . It's already decided for you where your pasture will be , and your plots of soil are very uniformed and evenly set . I think this game will appeal more to younger children , but for the older fans of Harvest Moon , it just doesn't stack up .

Harvest Moon : Save The Homeland is amazingly short . The days fly by - even when you do part time work at the neighbouring farm . There are a total of 9 endings , and each are fun for awhile , but then put you to sleep . Once you complete an ending by 1 year , your game resets , and all the townspeople forget you . Yes , only one year , as apposed to Harvest Moon : Back To Nature which is an infamous amount of years ( provided that the townspeople let you stay )
Of course , despite me bashing this game left and right , there are some pros . . . as well as more cons . . .
PROS :
* Stunning graphics . It's very appealing and very nice to look at . The animals are very well done , and the overall colors are nice as well .
* Less farm work . In the Back To Nature game , you have about a whole acre of land that you had to clear a bunch of stuff ( weeds , tree stumps , large boulders , etc . ) However , in Save The Homeland , there is no work to be done , at all , except getting a doghouse built and expanding your home . ( Which could also be a con , as it makes the game less interesting )
* You have an ability to choose between two dogs - the original labrador-like pup that is the main dog from every Harvest Moon game , or the more german shepard-like dog you may see running around the village .
* Animals and livestock are much cheaper . In Back To Nature , Cows are 6000G , however in Save The Homeland they are only 2500G . Chickens are 1000G cheaper in this game , making them easier to obtain as well .
* After your first ending is over , and your game resets , you still have all your expansions , all of your G ( money ) , all of your livestock , and all of your tools .
CONS :
* To get a dog , you must chase it for days . It takes forever until you actually are able to catch the dog , name it , and call it your own .
* Getting a horse is a hassel . You must do days and days of part time work at the Brownie Farm . This takes about a month .
* No marriage - you can't marry any of the women in the town , let alone start a family , unlike the other Harvest Moon games .

this was my first harvest moon game i got when i was 8 . now i have all of them but the one for snes and i still go back to play this one . it is my favorite because you can work for another farm to get money and you have to in order to get a horse ! this is the only one where you have to do something in order to get the horse but i think its better to have to earn it then to do nothing and get it . a must for anyone who has or has not played harvest moon .

Overall I think this game is okay but is mainly about the endings ( 9 ) which i think Natsume is trying to do . Not getting married or not having a baby and the areas being farther away are the big reason why I disliked this game and I blame Natsume for being lazy and slacking off on this game . . But i forgive him since he has created the orginal harvest moon ( ! BUY IT ! ) that is 5 times better than Save the Homeland .
I only Recommend you buy this game if you've never played Harvest Moon or don't care about any of the bad changed in the game .

040 4 The Harvest Moon Series is frankly one of if not my favorite Video Game Series . However I find this one to be lacking in quite a few ways . The switch to 3 - D was well done but sometimes was troublesome overall good job there . I think that also helped me get my dog to help put the Cows in the Barn . . . some of the other games that was a neigh impossible feat .
However the Biggest Problems in my opinion were that in previous Harvest Moons there was usually the chance to woo and marry one of the girls in town . . . not this one . Needless to say you don't have a chance to have a baby in this game either . Also this game lacks the Festivals that many of the games have at different times of the year .
In most Harvest Moon games there is no end you do at some point win the game but you can play right through that and continue to grow your farm , but not this one . As soon as you get one of the nine endings your game is over and you start again on day 1 of Spring . I have beaten nearly every ending and have yet to find out what winter looks on my farm . Also when you restart on day 1 of Spring you keep your house and farm and animals and stuff which is good but it seems odd because your plants are all still growing . Get to harvest Breadfruit on your first day in the Farm . . . seems kind odd to me .
Overall still a very good game and certainly would be acceptable to play with a child who has the patience . . . no violence , however they do have a nice little scene showing what happens when you fail to take care of you animals . They don't show it die but one of your neighbors comes shows you a grave and tells you he is ashamed of your disregard for life and irresponsiblity , maybe too heavy handed for a very young child but certainly , I think appropriate for children who understand actions have results .

You have to kind of develop a routine to survive , for example , every day , I would wake up , wake up the chickens and get the eggs , brush and milk the cows , water the crops , do part-time work at brownie farm , go foraging , sell my stuff , go home , and go to sleep . After days of doing this it gets a bit boring , and the only really exciting times were when my corn could be harvested or a baby calf was born . mostly pretty boring , but it was fun the first time .

The game isn't as much about real farm management as the other Harvest Moons were . You can't plot out your crops , your main aim is to work on relationships with the townsfolk .
The graphics are very interesting , with 3D characters much like in the Dark Cloud series . The music is OK , bordering on slightly annoying . I found the intro sequence to be especially tedious , with the little sprites leading you by the nose through every single task you could possibly want to do . It would be much better if they told you about a given task when you got to it , instead of overloading you with every single minute detail right at the beginning .
This is a great ' training ' game to get people used to the Harvest Moon style of gameplay . Experienced Harvest Mooners might find this game too short , because just as you are getting into your farm tending and relationship building , POOF it is over . So for long term satisfaction , I'd move on to the other harvest moons which are about long term success .

I can't take the stress of having to kill enemies or battle bosses , so I wanted something simple , fun and interesting . I used to love Myst for PC , so I was looking for something along those lines if not simpler . I have never played any of the other Harvest Moon games , so my opinion is based solely on Save the Homeland for PS2 . I absolutely love this game ! ! I can't stop playing it . If you are older like me and are just looking for something entertaining to get your mind off of everyday life , then you will enjoy this game . The graphics are very simple but the storyline is fun and interesting . It is not too easy and not too hard , and nothing has stressed me out as of yet . I love running my own little imaginary farm and tending to my crops and animals . It really is fun and relaxing . I can't wait to try the original Harvest Moon for PS1 .
055 4 I played the 64 version and I liked it a lot . But I found this H.M . more repetitive and not as good . It has less things than the 64 version ; only 4 types of crops , no festivals , less house upgrades ( you can only build a kitchen and a dog house ) , less activities , no marriage or sons , less tool upgrades , no postman , no dog races , etc . Instead of making it better than the 64 version they made it worse . I also liked more the camera of the 64 version .
It may get fun at times , but then it starts to get monotonous and boring .
Everyday I would simply wake up , get eggs from the chickens , brush and milk the cows , water the same crops all the year ( which is actually 4 months , each month a season ) , harvest the same crops all the year , sell the same crops all the year , maybe do some part-time work , and maybe give presents to people I want to get close to . It only varied sometimes ( almost never ) when I had to meet someone or I was asked to do something .
New things that didn't have the Nintendo 64 version were : part-time jobs , goddess , a few different characters ( not more ) , gnomes , there's a café , the whole town isn't in the same place , and I think you can cook more things ( like cakes , cheese or jams ) and pick more things from the forest ( which isn't really a forest ) , like berries , flowers , nuts , mushrooms , herbs , etc .
It isn't really bad , but some people might get disappointed with this game .

i first got into harvest moon when looking any vampire snes games for my emulator and saw the title harvest moon , now in vampire mind met i thought something compleatly differnt . it turned out to be one of the dumest games i ever played but chould not stop . it became a lot of fun for me . the back to natuer added 1000% more fun , more real , able to make sprites do slave work , and the girls to woo are interasting . and then the 2 after save the home land , wonderfull life as i much prefer the ps 2 version added realism to it very compleax , and magical melody is just pure fun . out of all 5 this is the only one i refuse to own and i will tell you why

This game is quite fun if you have the time to put into it , the only thing I dislike is that you only have a limited amount of time to do anything , namely , 1 year . As I popped Harvest Moon - Save the Homeland into my PlayStation2 , I wonder how the game is going to be . I had never played a Harvest Moon game before , and couldn't wait to try it out . Let me tell you , not playing Harvest Moon was definitely WASTED years !

084 4 This is the first Harvest Moon game I've played ( I plan to try the PS version next . ) , so I can't compare it to the other HM's . It was really a challenge to get the nine endings , it just took time . I love training my dog and looking after the animals , but watering the crops everyday , especially if you have a lot of them , can be really annoying . I heard about marrying someone in the other ones , and was disappointed that you couldn't do it here too .
P.S . You don't need dog food , you can put any kind of food in the dog bowl ( egg , very berry , etc . )

when i was younger , i was at my dear cousin's house . i saw a little bit of a game called harvest moon . now that i've researched it , i think that game was harvest moon 64 .
anyway , a few years later , i was at a yard sale and i saw hmsth ( harvest moon save the homeland ) . remembering my first experience , i got it for 10 bucks .
when i first popped it into my ps2 , i was soooo excited ! as i played it , i realized how beautiful it was . it was a fun game , with awesome 3d graphics and quirky anime characters . ( i LOVE anime ! ! ! ) when you look deeper , there is a sense of art , of beauty , in all things . this game was no different .
the spring season is a sweet time with butterflies fluttering through the air . moondrop flowers bloom and delicious very berries grow in the peaceful forests and lush meadows of the gorgeous landscape . there is so much to explore at first . you meet the interesting people , and see the wonderful sights . the sea is visible in some places , but you don't really go near it . seeing it is enough for me . the nightime can be scary because everything is dark and quiet . it feels great to return to the safety of your home . the spring season music is very peaceful and captures the true nature of spring . i like the fact that the 3d graphics allow you to see the beautiful sky . you can see the sunset best from your house , though i never see the moon , stars , or sunrise . at night , your animals stop moving and fall asleep . it is a wonderful season . it's very pretty , and it makes you want to go there .

( those are SCARY ! on t-storm days , the tv displays static and people say what are you doing out in this weather , kid ? ! you should be at home . this kind of weather is the closest thing to a hurricane in this game . it's freaky because there's all this thunder , i don't think there's lightning , but it's still scary . maybe the fact that our ps2 is hooked up to a tv in our basement , which is dark and sometimes creepy , makes it so unpleasant for me . ) but summer is still nice , with the cicadas humming their rhythmic , calming songs in the warm sunny air . in the dry season , the weather lady often warns you of grass fires , but i've never seen one . ( it could have to do with the fact that i keep my plants watered . ) lately , i've been missing the summertime . the music for summer is peaceful , serene , and puts you at ease , wih a slow-but-not-too-slow rhythym and a long , melodic tune that will send you longing for the summertime .
in fall , everything turns colors , and the upbeat song will be stuck in your head as you joyfully harvest your crops . ( harvest moon ds reveals that the fall song is called the joy of fall ) it's nice to see the bright colors , and the leaves really fall off the trees .
winter is a solemn time ( at the years end the theme park is built if you don't do anything ) and there is no snow or ice . it rains like usual , your animals can be outside as usual , and you can grow crops as usual . on the last day , everyone in town is sad . the winter song is sort of like the summer song , but slower , more haunting , grave in a way , igniting memories as you realize the town will be gone . ( the game restarts at spring 1 when the year ends and you keep most of your stuff ) it's rather sorrowful , even the scenery turns to grays and browns .
in addition to the 4 seasonal songs , when you go around town there are different songs that sound like the tunes you hear on your farm , but are arranged differently . i forget which spots have which song . there are also special event songs and on bob's farm ( the big ugly guy with the tatoo who's mean to you ) the song is ALWAYS the same . my brother and i made some words to it and have titled the tune sweaty and stinky . quite a humorous name once you hear the song for yourself .
in conclusion , this is a beautiful game . it will bring you unforgettable memories of this magical , enchanting land . no , this is not like the traditional hm game . but why not give it a try ? once you warm up to it , it really is a worthwhile game . don't hesitate . don't miss out on this serene environment . don't miss a chance to find a haven in Harvest Moon : Save The Homeland ! ! ! !

096 4 This game is vey fun and has awesome graphics , but I can't say iit is better than the PS1 version . The flaw with this game is it is very short . I beat it in less than 10 hours of game play . There are 9 endings but it would be boring to go throught it over and over . But , it was very fun , but just too short .

this game was fun and all , but it was really short . Even though it is the only PS2 Harvest Moon game , I don't think it would be worth byeing it . Right now I'm saving up for a Game Cube , and Another Wonderful Life .

The storyline is very simple : You have to save the town ( farm ) from being turned into a theme park .
This game has not one . . . not two . . . not even three . . . but 9 ENDINGS , Each one being different . Why so many , you may be asking ? I have no clue . The problem is that if you don't use a stradegy guide and / or an Action Replay / Gameshark , it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to unlock all 9 endings because you have to do specific things ( ie 1st , give a tomato to ? ? ? , then go see the Harvest goddess , etc . )
Like I said before , If you have played with the previous Harvest Moon games , you can expect a similar experience in this version . You get to raise cows , chicken , horses , dog , etc . You can even upgrade your house . There are lots of shops in the game ( maybe too many ) and lots of people to talk to .
It takes FOREVER to save up money in this game . The day you get 1 Million ( whatever currency the game uses ) , pigs can most probably fly .
Unfortunately , YOU CANNOT GET MARRIED ! In every other Harvest Moon game , you can get married , even in the Super Nintendo version . This is a big disappointment .
The graphics are cell-shaded . This game would have looked great in regular 3 - D . Why couldn't they make this game regular 3 - D ? Once again , I have no clue .
Also , when it is nighttime in the game , it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to see .
Overall : This game is only for hardcore Harvest Moon gamers and PS2 game collectors ( this game can be hard to find ) . Even if you like Harvest Moon but are not a hardcore Harvest Moon gamer , don't even rent this game . I like Harvest Moon , but this is a huge disappointment . Unfortunately , this is the only Harvest Moon game available for PS2 . I give this game a 2 out of 5 .

This version is fine if you want short games you don't really get attached to . If you want a better Harvest Moon Experience , get the N64 version of Gameboy Advance version . If all you have is a PS2 , prepare to enjoy the game , but not for very long .

The crops suck because they purposly made it so that you hardly have to water the crops . You cant even get a girlfriend ! And as opposed to the previous Harvest moon games . . . you MUST end your game after a year ( and it only takes a month to win it ) . After that you keep your shack and animals and stuff . . . but all the people you've worked so hard to gain their respect just forget you . And then you have to go through all of the cienamatics again .
I gave it a two because the 64 version of this game is much better . There is a ton more to do and it is better scripted . Natsume just rushed to start this game up , but I do look foward to their next Harvest Moon Game .
112 4 It could have been better if i wasn't getting screen sick from all the motion of the 3 - d style . Especially when I am trying to find where I am going . I get lost a lot so I keep on moving back and forth . Almost wanted to puke . So I started it but I don't think I can end it because of that . It kind of reminded me of Kingdom Hearts because you have to move around a lot with that too . I didn't enjoy that too much either . I probably like harvest moon ps1 better .

In Save the Homeland , you can't get married , there are no sheep , no festivals , no babies , the game ends after 1 year of play , you must work for a horse , and there aren't many fields to grow crops ! I would barely get outside and get my bearings , and it would be mid-afternoon already ! How am I ever supposed to build a farm and save the homeland if all the stores are closed by the time I get to them ! ? Being a Harvest Moon fan from the beginning I have played every version of the console and most of the Game Boy games and previously even had a very successful web site on the series . This game is different from the other versions , besides the fact that it is cel shaded . In general this game is just not very fun . In many ways it seems as if the series has actually gone backwards . Less animals , worse interactivity , and not being able to get married are just some of these examples . If you really want to experience Harvest Moon I suggest the N64 version or preferably the Playstation 1 version . In general stay clear of this swing and miss by Natsume . I can only hope that the new Harvest Moon for Gamecube can put the series back in the right direction .

I really like taking care of meh animals and crops . . . and after you start getting events it's all good . . . but then an event interrupts your event chain ( ( y'see , there are nine different ways to ' save the homeland ' and nine different chains of events ) ) and then you have to start from scratch . 124 4 After playing it for awhile , I realize all you get to do is play with cows and chickens , and a dog if your lucky . What a boar . The Harvest Land in this game is so small I wonder where all the memory went to . Your main goals are to bake goods , farm the land , then attempt to earn money that way , so you can buy something to give as a gift to some townsfolk fool . This way the townspeople will give you clues to go on stupid little adventures to get to one of nine stupid little endings to the game . Oh , and if you miss their birthday dont expect any help . You don't get to plant as many crops as Harvest Moon #1 , there are no festivals , you can't upgrade your barn or chicken coup and you don't have as many tools . The only upgrade to your house you can get is to buy a dog house and a kitchen . The days go by too fast and you can't get a lot done . Also unlike the first game , in this one you can't get married . There are no legendary fish to catch , and in fact there is only one spot in the game you can fish and it isn't very much fun . I don't know why the designers of this one changed it so much , but it could have been so much better then what they made it . There are a lot more things I didn't like about this game , but I'll leave it there for now . If you liked Harvest Moon #1 , you won't like #2 This is a game I wish I didn't waste my money on . For shame on you Natsume for killing a good game !
126 4 I agree with the other reviewer on here ; there really isn't too much to do in this game . For a system like the PS2 , there should be a lot to write about . Sadly this isn't the case with this version of Harvest Moon , so I would advise you to save your money on this one . The graphics aren't even all that great , and the sound is dated . I'm not sure why this game is priced anywhere near 50 dollars , especially with games like Grand Theft 3 and Tony Hawk 3 on the market .

129 4 This game itself is amusing , and can be a bit addictive , but if you are a true Harvest Moon fan , you will get bored of this game fast . Unlike virtually all of the other HM games , you cannot get married , nor do you start out with a dog or horse . The gametime only lasts one year , in which you must pick a track . You can still have crops , and there are cows , no sheep . You must work to get a dog to like you , and become friends with the other farmers so they will give you a horse .
This game is a bit harder than the other HM games , and I would reccomend you try Back to Nature in place of this game , which I find is more engrosing .

134 4 My friend let me borrow this game because he said it was really addicting and really fun . So I came home and started playing it . I got so bored , so fast . There was no point , I didn't even know what exactly I was supposed to do . Grow crops ? How exciting ! Oh , build a relationship with the townspeople ? That's all right , they dont even talk , and it takes forever for them to finish a sentence . . .

ok , i don't think i'm an action junkie . i like the sims 2 , i don't play halo 2 . but this game is sloooooooooooow . after a few minutes , i was sick of it . also , no real tutorial to tell you what to do . you just wake up in a room , with a cow milker in your inventory . oh yay , i can go milk a cow ! ! ! that right there is the pinnacle of gaming entertainment , my friends ( sarcasm ) . i liked the old sega genesis harvest moon better , where you have a nice full screen , no annoying 3d cameras . you know you can water , harvest your crops , deal with your cows , go into town , etc . simpler , faster , and more fun . also this game has japanese-type graphics ( i'm sorry , but there are a million anime titles out there , did they have to turn harvest moon into one ? ? ) and annoying townspeople that i hate . i wish i had bought harvest moon : back to nature for PS back in the day . now it costs $40 online , but it looks like it has that sega genesis harvest moon style that i like . definitely skip this one ! ! !

Raising chickens , cows , a horse , a dog ? - - all pointless . MONEY ? Pointless ! You just don't need it . You need not lay one finger on your farm , you can simply talk to people and give them gifts easily found within the environment - - this opens up a few lackluster events , and presto , you win the game . No farming necessary . I woke up on the 7th of Summer and all of the sudden , the game was over . The 7th of Summer ! On the first and only year ! I hadn't even seen Fall or Winter yet . I wonder why on earth this is called ' Harvest Moon ' , because it is certainly NOT a farm sim . Farming is optional , but why would you want to do it if it doesn't lead anywhere , and matters not in the end ?
Additionally , if that weren't enough , the characters are just too flat for the relationship emphasis to work . They just simply aren't interesting . They do not have the flare , the charm , the personality of those seen in BTN , or even the original . They are absolutely dull .
To top it all off , Natsume omitted some of the most charming elements of the series . There is no marriage , no children , and perhaps worst of all , NO festivals . There really isn't anything to look forward to , and the boring characters certainly don't provide any incentive . There really isn't anything worth working for . Need I say more ?
Gameplay wise , what irked me the most was that 1 second = 1 minute . Not only does this make days absurdly short , but a contradiction arises . The game strongly suggests that you work on your fields during the day , and this is implemented by your energy depleting at a must faster rate in the night hours . Also , in certain weather conditions , if you don't attend to your crops , they will whither and die . You can have your itsy bitsy field at nearly full , and by the time you are done watering , the sun has already set . Well , what does that mean ? That a lot of people you may want to speak to are unavailable ! If not at the second you finish , certainly when you get anywhere . Though this may make it a bit interesting in terms of time management , it gets a bit irritating if you get colds constantly ( which you contract if you work too much at night ) . Although , then again , as stated above . . . why bother farming ?
The only remotely positive points this game has to offer is decent ( though at times tiresome ) interface , superb graphics and , best of all , the transportation of your cows and horse in and out of the barn is a breeze - - no where near the frustrating hassle that it was in BTN . . . . That's it .
I have noticed that a majority of the good reviews are written by those who are new to Harvest Moon , while a majority of the negative are written by veterans of the series . This is no surprise . If you are new , and would like to start out on the series , I do not recommend this title : this was a failed experiment , go to Harvest Moon : Back to Nature , Harvest Moon 64 , or the original Harvest Moon instead . If you are a veteran , stay away - - or , if you're really that curious , just rent it . Though , don't be surprised if you feel you've wasted your time , money , and gasoline in getting there .
Overall ? It should be obvious . This is not a purchase worthy game . I wasted twenty dollars and five hours ( yes , only five hours and it was over ! ) of my life on this garbage . However , there is hope for the series ; Harvest Moon : A Beautiful Life looks incredibly promising . So , Harvest Moon veterans , don't despair just yet .

To top it all off , Natsume omitted some of the most charming elements of the series . There is no marriage , no children , and perhaps worst of all , NO festivals . There really isn't anything to look forward to , and the boring characters certainly don't provide any incentive . There really isn't anything worth working for . Need I say more ?
Gameplay wise , what irked me the most was that 1 second = 1 minute . Not only does this make days absurdly short , but a contradiction arises . The game strongly suggests that you work on your fields during the day , and this is implemented by your energy depleting at a must faster rate in the night hours . Also , in certain weather conditions , if you don't attend to your crops , they will whither and die . You can have your itsy bitsy field at nearly full , and by the time you are done watering , the sun has already set . Well , what does that mean ? That a lot of people you may want to speak to are unavailable ! If not at the second you finish , certainly when you get anywhere . Though this may make it a bit interesting in terms of time management , it gets a bit irritating if you get colds constantly ( which you contract if you work too much at night ) . Although , then again , as stated above . . . why bother farming ?
The only remotely positive points this game has to offer is decent ( though at times tiresome ) interface , superb graphics and , best of all , the transportation of your cows and horse in and out of the barn is a breeze - - no where near the frustrating hassle that it was in BTN . . . . That's it .
I have noticed that a majority of the good reviews are written by those who are new to Harvest Moon , while a majority of the negative are written by veterans of the series . This is no surprise . If you are new , and would like to start out on the series , I do not recommend this title : this was a failed experiment , go to Harvest Moon : Back to Nature , Harvest Moon 64 , or the original Harvest Moon instead . If you are a veteran , stay away - - or , if you're really that curious , just rent it . Though , don't be surprised if you feel you've wasted your time , money , and gasoline in getting there .
Overall ? It should be obvious . This is not a purchase worthy game . I wasted twenty dollars and five hours ( yes , only five hours and it was over ! ) of my life on this garbage . However , there is hope for the series ; Harvest Moon : A Beautiful Life looks incredibly promising . So , Harvest Moon veterans , don't despair just yet .
027 4 this was my first harvest moon game i got when i was 8 . now i have all of them but the one for snes and i still go back to play this one . it is my favorite because you can work for another farm to get money and you have to in order to get a horse ! this is the only one where you have to do something in order to get the horse but i think its better to have to earn it then to do nothing and get it . a must for anyone who has or has not played harvest moon .
030 4 When my firend first got me hoocked on this game , I went serching for a PS2 version of the Harvest moon seris . THIS GAME BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN FARMING ! But my only 2 conserns are , the life span ( Only 1 year ) and the Relationship thing . No kids or anything like that . But if thats all your intressted in . Get another Game ! But if your hoocked on farming GET IT NOW ! But overall I give it 5 stars .
048 4 Man i got this game a day ago , and let me tell you , WOW , ITS AMAZING , the characters added nice features , each with their own little personalities , and the people are very interesting to talk to , the game lacks just a little in Gameplay as your walking to a little town of the Harvest world , you become to find your self in your house , which is confusing , but the game really is amazing , you can ride your horse around which is a quicker and more faster way when your animals are sick or if you just want to visit a town for a need , the graphics are cool and the animater really captured the characters , as in all Harvest moon games , the sound is just terrific to me , kinda of childlike but fun to listen to , this game may misled you to think its a kids game due to the E rating but it is a very good game for people of all ages i turned 14 ! yesterday , and youll never get bored with all the stuff to do , now people are saying things about you cant get married or you cant go to festivals , but all games are created differently , and this game has plenty of things to do , Harvest cash crops , Groom your pets , feed your pets , greet people , make money by doing chores , raising animals including chickens , your horse , cows and your little friend ( the dog ) in which you can train , plus there are nine ways to complete your task , all in all i think this a great game with minor flaws , i recommend it !
056 4 The Harvest moon series has been my favourite for years , since SNES version , but the new Save the Homeland game left out so many things that made the series so great ! You can only grow 4 crops , and the focus is no longer building a great farm , it's about making friends with the right people so you can save the town . There is no more wooing a lady in town in hopes of getting married and staring a family , not nearly as many recipies or ingredients for cooking , no special town events like the harvest festival or cooking contest . So if you Loved playstation HM or Harvest moon 64 , this new version is going in a different direction . I still recommend it , but maybe to rent with Gamefly.com or borrow it from someone , because the fun factor runs out quickly .
057 4 This game is fun . If you played any of the other games in this series then you should definately try this one ! Having just finished Back to Nature , I was a little hesitant to jump right into another harvest moon title so quickly . Fortunately a great bundle offer from a local store gave me the excuse to pick this one up right away . The worst part of the previous games was the end . In BTN I had a successful farm , a happy wife and child and 2 months left until the end . Those last 2 months were a chore to finish . That has been taken away in this game . You have one year to accomplish any 1 of 9 goals . Once you accomplish a goal , you can play again from day 2 and get to keep all of your items . This was a very welcome benefit .
Bottom line . If you like any of the previuos Harvest Moon Games get it ! If you havent played any of them you dont know what you are missing . These games are surprisingly addictive .
080 4 I am a mom and played this game for hours . I have not played the other harvest moon's but am looking forward to it . I think all children should play this game , it shows them responsibilty , on owning a pet , working and making money either for buying or selling . This game is a great roleplaying game . I am really looking forward to playing back to nature , which offers much more . This game is reality ( how life really is when you have to work for things ) , but in a childrens form . BUY IT !
086 4 This games graphics are amazying BUT thats about it if were you i'd stick to btn or the 64 version there are only 20 caracters 0 festivals thats right not 1 festival zipo intis version you have a chocie between 2dogs which is a nice feature but you cant get married no baby and theres not even snow on the ground during winter you can only get 2 extentions there are new girls too wich is a litte better but you cant get married and how do you go on dates some one email becuse iv given her stuff every day and this games was sposed to be great cuse could date but how ( . . . ) BTN And 64 may not have as good of graphics but truts me its much funner still a good game and it still is probly worth the ( money ) but if you dont have the other versions then get them first
094 4 The game had potential.Coming from the N64 verson , it really isn't any better , only worse . The game has the best graphics yet for harvest moon , which really is not saying much anyway . Other than the better graphics , this game lags far behind any other HM game , espicially in price . A definate dont buy , unless you are a die - hard fan of HM . . .
095 4 Harvestmoon save the homeland is a really cool game , its unlike all the others where money is really important because its not in this game . In other game you have to grow a certain amount of crops and things like that . in this game you have to make friends with everyone in town in order to save the town in 1 year before they build a theme park . all and all I think this game is really cool if you liked the other one I am sure that you will like this one so go out and buy it .
109 4 Harvest Moon : STH is a great game . Although it is based more on the interaction between characters , the feeling still retains that of a Harvest Moon game . I would HIGHLY recommend this game .

Who cares if it isn't life like ? The fact that nothing is really complicated as far as looks go is ( one ) of my favorite aspects ! Everything isn't as suny and nice anymore , it always looks gray ! Even though I don't own it , as far as I know I wouldn't want to as much as HM : BTN ( which I hope to get - soon ! )
