004 4 Of all the Godzilla films , this one is by far the most suitable for young kids . Essentially it is a movie about the evils of latchkey children . Our little hero , Ichiro , is shy and always beaten up at school . He visits Monster Island in his dreams several times where he befriends Minilla , the son of Godzilla , who is also shy and friendless . Ironically , both are picked on by bullies named Gabara .
In the first dream , Ichiro dreams he is aboard Pan American Flight One , nonstop to Monster Island , then hangs out in the jungle while Godzilla dukes it out with Kamacuras , the Praying Mantis monster , Gorosaurus , a kind of giant badger-lizard hybrid monster , Manda the snake , Anguirus , the spiny armadillo monster , and a nameless flying giant turkey vulture monster ( as silly as the bird from The Giant Claw . ) That's all in the first five minutes or so . Ultimately Ichiro falls into a hole and is rescued by Minilla , who speaks good English , but try to ignore that he sounds exactly like Droopy Dog , or you may not be able to cease laughing until the movie is over . Minilla is worried about his neighborhood bully ( allegory anyone ? ) Gabara , who happens to be a giant furry , cat-lizard with glowing pink electric horns . He is much scarier than the Gabara in Ichiro's neighborhood . He is much sillier looking , too .
Between his dreams Ichiro is either going to school , hanging out with a creepy toy maker , or playing in an abandoned warehouse , where he collects used vacuum tubes . ( The movie never explains what the deal with the vacuum tubes is . ) He also gets mixed up with a couple of thieves who have stolen 50,000,000 Yen ( about enough for a McDonald's Happy Meal today ) and has to outwit them .
To get through the trauma of being kidnapped by thieves , he calls on the power of Minilla , and re-visits Monster Island , where this time Godzilla gets to play baseball with Ebirah , better known as the Crab Monster , and wrestle around in silk with Kumonga , the tarantula monster . Godzilla also teaches Minilla how to breathe fire in a touching male bonding experience .
Ultimately Ichiro defeats the robbers , and is a hero , having learned a valuable lesson that you have to stand up for yourself . Besides the lesson in pre-adolescent self-confidence , and some amusing monsters , this is one of the lesser works of Ishiro Honda . If you are a Godzilla completist , it's fine , but you can safely see it last .
001 4 From an adult or older child's perspective this movie might deserve one star , but my four year old boys love it . They have watched it dozens of times since their Uncle Randy gave it to them during the holidays . For us that is the real test as to whether or not it is a good KIDS movie - do MY kids watch it and enjoy it ? And yes , they do .
One of my boys is more sensitive than the other about scary stuff ( he still doesn't want to watch Monsters Inc ) . He didn't find this movie to be too scary or intense , but it still keeps his interest , and it keeps the interest of my other son who isn't as sensitive . I think this was a good introduction into Godzilla movies for them ( and remember , folks , this is a GODZILLA movie - it will have cheesy SE , dialogue , and plot . That's what makes them so great . . . ) .
There are several good messages in the movie . In the end Ichiro stands up to his bully just like Minya does . The bad guys get caught by the police . The fact that Ichiro doesn't get to spend much time with his parents is a good topic to discuss . It can help our boys develop empathy for other children who don't get to spend as much time with their mom and dad as they do . Hopefully it will teach them to have empathy for any child who doesn't fit in just like Ichiro didn't .
This movie might not be enjoyable for some older children and adults . I think Godzilla's Revenge is best suited for four to seven year olds ; although , my husband and I can sit through it with the boys just fine .
002 4 I love this movie . It's extremely corny , most of the footage is stock , but it is so entertaining . I think the Godzilla gang really had fun making this one.Minilla is ridiculous , but remember , this is in a kid's dream sequence . His dreams WOULD be made up of stock footage and ridiculous characters , wouldn't they ? I think this one is a great big thank you to all the kids who helped make Godzilla famous .
003 4 If everyone would stop talking negitive about all the stock footage used in the film and sit down and think about the Godzilla movies that they took the footage from , it really isn't that bad . They took lots of the monster scenes from Godzilla vs . The Sea Monster and Son of Godzilla which were not the best of the Godzilla series and I really don't like to watch all the way though all that often . In this film , all the best battling scenes of those films are mixed together into one on this film without all the talking and boring storyline that graces the films they originated from . This story line is much more enjoyable , it stars a little boy who dreams of seeing Godzilla on his home island . He falls asleep and has a dream which consists of Godzilla battling a number of monsters and meets Godzilla's son and they quickly become friends and watch Godzilla battle though out the film . First Godzilla battles giant spiders ( from Son of Godzilla ) , then he goes and fights a giant condor and then battles Ebirah : The Sea Monster ( from Godzilla vs . The Sea Monster ) , which is one of Godzilla's best fight scenes of all his career of being in the movies . Then battles giant praying mantasis ( from Son ) , and more . They did shoot some new monster footage for the film which features a new monster Gabera , who is a pretty dumb monster ( both in look and intelligence ) who bullies Godzilla's son Minya ( and doesn't even do that well . . . always falling down and bumping his head ) . The old and new footage is edited together well and features a great opining score . . . a kind of jazzy sounding song with all the monster's roars appearing every so often which Toho released on a single back in 1969 . If you buy the Simtar version of this film . . . you wont be dissapointed with the quality . It is in the SP mode , great crisp picture , excellent sound quality , and digitally remastered from the original theatrical negitives . Trust me , this film is a great Saturday afternoon film , with some of the greatest battle scenes of any monster film that comes before or after Godzilla's Revenge !
005 4 Since when were Godzilla movies supposed to be taken seriously ? Don't get me wrong ; I absolutely love them , but to read some of the reviews posted here one would think that this movie constitutes some atrocity against humanity , when , really , it's just a very lightweight , inoffensive piece of fluff .
Sure , it's aimed squarely at kids . Sure , it's cheap-looking ; isn't that the fun of a classic Godzilla movie ? Have your insulin ready for the sicky sweet kiddy matinee slant this movie has , then sit back and enjoy what amounts to a compilation of the best stock footage sequences from previous movies .
This was only the second Godzilla movie I ever saw as a kid ; I was maybe 10 years old at the time , and thought that being able to shift moods from deadly serious dealings in the first one was a really neat idea ( I was only 10 at the time , after all ) . I still enjoy the virtually nonstop parade of monster scrappin ' , even if some of it is re-cut from other movies . I never guessed such a thing way back when .
Groovy to me still is the very late-sixties Lounge sound of the main theme , March of the Monsters . Outer-spacey electronic and burning with lava-hot sax , it cools off with jangling surfer guitar to create a piece of psychedelic pop trash ear candy at it's trippiest .
The other major reason to see this is for the only screen appearance of Gabara , a colorful , fierce-looking ( for that time ) and highly original beasty who I always have included as part of the offical monster lineup . Even if he is regarded as purely the product of a boy's fevered imaginings , those of us who dig him know he's as real as any of the rest of the Toho gang .
Just remember that this movie could have done MUCH worse for pissing away it's given potential , as other entries have certainly done ( Godzilla Final Wars , anyone ? ) .
Godzilla's Revenge doesn't aim high to begin with , and therefore shouldn't be considered a failure when , in fact , it squarely hits the mark .
Cynics and fanboys alike to need to view it through the eyes it was intended for in the first place ( if they can remember how ) , and , like enjoying a snowcone on a summer day , they ( and you ) will find it pleasant , colorful , sweet , and insubstantial , a not-too-serious distraction that's gone before you know it , and you won't disappointed for having taken the time .
007 4 A Godzilla movie that examines the Big G's positive impact on a child ? Well that is what Godzilla's Revenge is all about . Just what the title refers to is beyond me , Ichiro's Revenge would be better . Sourpuss fans expecting a ' real ' Godzilla movie best look elsewhere , Godzilla stays firmly in the land of child's fantasy in this outing . About the only thing adult viewers will find of interest are how the crooks on the loose subplot resembles portions of Home Alone . Very interesting . Highly recommended for children and the child within .
008 4 This is a great movie if you have a young Godzilla fan , or just a collector ! ( like me ) This movie does contain stock footage from other Godzilla movies , but hey ! Which one doesn't ! Godzila vs . Monster Zero contained stock footage from the movie Rodan ! If you are one of those people who hate ( semi ) kiddie stuff , then I recommend you wouldn't buy it , but if you really want to see it , ( like I did ) , buy it ! And don't worry , it's not as bad as everyone else says it is . It's a great movie ! Don't get too embarrassed when you see Minya talk to the main character . Hope you enjoy it !

011 4 This movie gives sober men pause . When one embarks upon the path of schlock cinema , one naturally expects egregious movies . Nevertheless , this one is a real stinker . Look around you , and behold the bottom of the Godzilla barrel . Godzilla has a son named Minilla ( according to the DVD case ) . Think Mini-Me . There is no explanation of Minilla's origin . Frankly , the thought of Godzilla and a she-monster procreating is too astonishing to even contemplate . A Japanese tyke named Ichiro fantasizes about Monster Island where Godzilla lives and fights . Ichiro wishes he could fight to rid himself of a bully and a pair of bungling bank robbers . In several dream sequences , Minilla ( pronounced Min-YA ) gives Ichiro advice on dealing with tough guys . Although some of the things that make Japanese sci-fi so much fun are present , this film lacks the usual thrills of a building crumbling attack on Nippon . People of the 21st century , observe the heat ray doughnuts that Minilla spits , and stand in awed silence . One wishes that the filmmaker had alerted the first-time viewer that this movie is intended ( for a change ) for kiddies . Of course , it can be argued that all Godzilla flicks are of interest only to the very young , but there is no time for that debate . It's fair to say that this little sci-fi flick is okay for patient kids of pre-school age . Others should duck and run . Drawing the line between so-dumb-it's-funny and just plain silly is an inexact science . The technical quality of the DVD edition , including the audio , is clean and clear . Wide-screen fans beware the full screen format . ; - )

The picture is quite clear without much damage but the clips from other movies are lower quality than the new footage , the colour is okay to , pretty much it is an okay print not bad but not great . It is not in it's original widescreen format either . It shows some signs of compression . The frame rate is 24 fields 24 frames this improves on the King of the Monsters dvd as that was done in 30 frames with a frame doubled every 4 . The same ' extras ' as King of the Monsters which are the advert for the tie-in GameCube game and another 5.1 remix which makes everything sound like it's in a bathroom .
Good Points : It has a little fun animated menu , it also has quite a few chapters at good points .
Bad Points : It hasn't been remastered or restored , it's not in widescreen , . . . .
The rating above is for this DVD not the film , I rated it 2 stars because it is watchable as a bog standard version of the movie but more dedicated fans should save their money for a future release .
013 4 a.k.a Oru Kaiju Daishingeki : All Monsters Attack ! This movie has little to do with Godzilla , except for appearances in a boy's dream .
The boy dreams he sees Godzilla and his son , Minya . Godzilla is teaching Minya how to fight . It's supposed to be heart-warming and funny , but it's just painful to witness . The boy learns from Minya to be courageous and resourceful and , in doing so , defeats a pair of foolish criminals . It's sorta like Home Alone , without Joe Pesci or M Culkin - - and it's hard to sit through this one , even for Godzilla fans .

Godzilla's Revenge has gained distinction by being ranked as one of the worst films of all time for its shameless use of stock footage . The new footage consists of a fight with Giberah , but this new kaiju is lame and looks hastily produced . Not enough Godzilla , too much Minya . One star seems harsh , so . . . two stars for you , Minya .

The entire movie ( plot , characters , music ) is extremely annoying ! My 4 - year old loves it though . My main critique ( besides the obvious ) is that there are some disturbing scenes when the bank robber chases the little boy with a knife . Not that kids nowawdays don't see a lot worse on cereal commercials . If you can find a cheap copy somewhere , it's worth a laugh .

There are two reasons to get this movie . One , if you are a Godzilla fan and want to introduce your children to the series , this is a good way to do it . While the idea of seeing the world through the Godzilla Universe via the eyes of a child is an interesting one , the overabundant use of stock footage from previous films frankly kills the movie outright . This is an unfortunate waste of the talents of a director like Ishiro Honda , who no doubt was looking for a way out , especially when his close friend and SFX genius Eiji Tsubaraya died midway through production . Very young children who have not seen any previous Godzilla movies might enjoy this , especially since the protagonist is in their age group . Other than that , this flick has very little appeal at best .
020 4 When I was a child , this movie was the junk . Me and my friends used to love watching this movie . Now that I'm older , I look back on it and think , What was so good about this movie ? The fact is , this one was more child-oriented , which explains why it was so cheesy . 030 4 While I freely admit that this film is horrible , I must say that I really like it nonetheless . Maybe it is so bad that it is good , or maybe I'm just crazy . The premise sounds pretty good in theory : use Minya , the son of Godzilla , to help show a young boy how to stand up for himself against the local bully ; throw in some Godzilla battle scenes , and then drop in a couple of bank robber / kidnappers to boot . Wonderful . In execution , of course , the film is laughable and downright weird . Ishiro is basically a latch-key kid with a wild imagination . He wants nothing more than to journey to Monster Island to meet Godzilla's son Minya . In his dreams , he does make the journey and becomes friends with Minya ( who sounds too much like Barney for my liking ) . Minya , like Ishiro , is being harassed by a large bully . Poor Godzilla is trying to teach his son to stand up for himself and fight . Unfortunately , Minya can do little more than blow smoke rings at his foes . With Godzilla's help , he eventually does fight back , and Ishiro takes courage from Minya's success . Back in the real world where he has been kidnapped by bank robbers , Ishiro manages to escape . At this point , you basically have a Japanses Home Alone sequence with the two bad guys being constantly outwitted by the little kid in short pants . In the end , Ishiro is more than ready to stand up to the neighborhood bully .
We do see a few Godzilla action sequences , but unfortunately they are made up of stock footage of some of his most boring fights . My favorite scenes involve Godzilla and his son . It's just comical to watch Godzilla try to show his inept , clumsy son how to fight . The only way he can get Minya to unleash a serious breath ray is by stepping on his tail - - it's hilarious . I also must comment on Minya's ridiculous costume - - it has to be the worst costume in the history of movie-making . He looks about as much like Godzilla as I do ; I can only assume that he is adopted . And the music - - someone must have wanted to start a Godzilla dance craze with this weird , campy , funked-up music . When you put everything together , the movie is just so different , so weird , and so ludicrously funny that it becomes almost a treat to watch it . This is Godzilla as you've never seen him before ( and for good reason ) . If you go in expecting to see Godzilla wreak havoc all over Japan , you will be disappointed . Know what you're getting into before you start this movie , give it a chance , and I think you will find yourself oddly amused and entertained ( although you may not want to admit it ) .

For your information people there is more that goes into a Godzilla movie than Just explosions and battle scenes . While the plot is kind of cheesy a little boy dreams about visiting Monster Island . The boy gets the courage to face his bully Gabra also ironically also the name of a monster in this film that torments Minla in his make believe visits to Monster Island . The thieves panicking that they will be discover kidnapped the boy during one of his dream visits with Minlla . Can the boy name Ichrio use the lesson he learns from Minla to escape from the robbers and stand up to the Gabra that exists in the real world . Back on Monster Island can Minla face his own Gabra the Gigantic monster who is a massive 58 meters tall ( 190 feet ) made up of 23,000 metric tons ( 25,300 tons of pure muscle and blood and who generates powerful fast moving electrical energy from his arms and power horn . Can Minla and Ichiro face there bullies and be triumphant . Find out in the thrilling and hilarious funny conclusion .
034 4 This movie by far is the worst Godzilla film ever made . That's would often be viewed as a good thing sense what I like about Godzilla films is how cheesy they get ( Like the flying drop-kick in Godzilla Vs Megalon . Bad but

The DVD is presented in full frame ( 1.33 : 1 ) and widescreen ( 2.35 : 1 ) . I haven't actually watched the full frame version , but the widescreen has few scratches and strong colors , even if there are some heavy signs of compression . The sound is great . On the special features front , there's a collection of theatrical trailers from other Godzilla movies ( not the originals , however ) , a trivia game , and an art gallery . The box advertises film facts , but they were nowhere to be found on the disc .
038 4 I think that Godzilla's Revenge is a pretty good movie . But there is some things I don't like . First , Minya can't talk or grow . Second , they use scenes from all the Godzilla movies . But it is still a good movie , so I would buy it .

Minya looks as awful as ever and the new monster Gabera is one silly creation . The score plays pretty harshly on the ears ( calling Akira Ifukube ! ) as well . That said , the story works pretty well for children . There is much that they can find to enjoy in this film whereas , most adults and older G fans will be left cold by it .
040 4 I don't think some people realy understood what this film is about . It's not a monsters-V-humanity and never pretends to be . It is instead a quite sympathetic and touching tale of a young downtrodden child being inspired by his heroes to fight back against the bullies who see him as a target .
If this film does have a fault then it's the over-use of footage from older Godzilla films , though thankfully this doesn't detract too much .
041 4 This movie was entertaining to me . I saw this movie when I was a kid on TV and I enjoyed it . The fights were not very exciting and they used clips from other movies , but it wasn't that bad . This movie is definitely for kids . Don't compare this movie to the new series Godzilla movies .

062 4 Well i give this a one star because this is the worst godzilla film ever made.The reason I get is to have in my godzilla videos collection but thats it.This movie is about a goofy looking kid that gets pick on by bullies and ends up hostage in abandon place by robbers.Then he dreams and falls asleep about monster island and wonders what minya godzilla retarded son would do in his place .
Overal the monster action sucks bad I mean Gabhara or so looks like a mutated house cat.But Inoshiro Honda the director wants to point out a message to kids and families about standing up to your enemies or they would just push you around.Teach you about bravery , confindence and so on.Thats the only reason he made it was for kids .
This video is for little kids who likes barney , sesame streets ,
and so on because its teaches rather then violence .

Of course that is nothing compared to Side 2 , which is far less colourful , looses half the image ( obviously ) , and is generally in far worse shape print-wise with hairs , cuts and other blemishes .
AUDIO QUALITY :
The disc comes packed with two tracks , both English dubbed . One is the original mono and the other an all-new 5.1 track . Both tracks contain a lot of fuzzing and distortion , though for the 5.1 track that's rather obvious since it's modelled after the mono track . The mono track is basically everything you'd expect it to be . The 5.1 track sound pretty much the same , but with some added sound effects . Sadly , these new sound effects really don't match the original audio at all - they sound way to modern and carry way to much bass to mix properly with the soundtrack and original sound effects .
EXTRA FEATURES :
Godzilla's Revenge carries the same basic features as all Simitar discs . There are several Godzilla screen savers included for DVD-ROM users , which are only compatible with Windows ® 95 machines . There are also some custom trailers Simitar designed for their Godzilla releases , which are made in a cheesy 1950 ' s American monster movie style . There is a video art gallery , and for DVD-ROM users a printable art gallery , which is fairly interesting , as well as a short trivia game to rest your knowledge on the film .
OVERALL :
A fair release which offers something you wouldn't find in America before ; Godzilla's Revenge in it's original widescreen ratio , with a reasonably clean print and nice colours . Of course for the folks that want a trip down memory lane , there's the full screen TV version as well . The audio isn't anything to shout about , and the extra features are rather lacklustre ( but at least existent ) , but overall it's giving you a pretty good version of the film . Of course , the film itself is another issue .

009 4 Godzilla's Revenge is without question , the absolute WORST Godzilla movie ever produced , beating out Godzilla Vs . Megalon . ( But not by much ! )
This movie makes me wonder how much exprimenting with drugs director Inoshiro Honda was involved with when he envisioned Godzilla's Revenge ; I have noticed that not even Mystery Science Theatre 3000 has had a chance to put their own spin on this movie ` , it's so bad . I think that it may even be worse than Robot Monster , or even Hercules In New York !
The basic plot is that a child attending school is having problems with a bully , so this young kid daydreams he visits Monster Island , ( first intoduced in Destroy All Monsters ) and gets advice from none other than Minya , Godzilla's son ! AAAAUGGH !
This movie cannot be considered an original because many of the scenes involving Godzilla are clips from his earlier movies ; and this version of Godzilla is one of the movies wherein he looks more like the Cookie Monster !
So , unless you REALLY , REALLY , REALLY enjoy watching TERRIBLE movies , I suggest you STAY AWAY !

This is more exciting then Titanic . It has everything . Destruction , good acting , drama , crime , and Godzilla dies . It will excite even adults . The music is scary . I would say this movie was nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Director of 1969 . It won Best Picture of 1969 . No bad dubbing , Buy it . Treasure it . Feel it . Feel the compasion . It inspired George Lucas to do Star Wars . It gave ideas to James Cameron's ALIENS and Titanic . IF YOU ARE A GODZILLA SERIES FAN - this movie is a terrable godzilla movie ( with a misleading title . ) This movie shows you one to two minutes of new godzilla . There is only one new scene with Gidzilla ! ( the rest is old stock footage from Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs . the Sea Monster . ) The only reason to buy this movie is ether to complete the collection , OR to see one of the funniest godzilla movies ever made . ( beating Godzilla vs . Megalon ! ) My brother and I laffed so hard when we saw this movie because Minya talking is the worst idea i've ever heard . ( literally heard . ) IN CONCLUSION if you get this movie in a box set ( because they always stick this one in there ) , and are to lazy to put in both Godzilla vs . The Sea Monster and Son of Godzilla , skip ALL of the scenes without Godzilla , turn the volume lower than mute , and crank up some Heavy Metal music ( may I suggest Metallica ? ) because this is not a good moment for godzilla ! IF YOU ARE GETTING A GIFT FOR A CHILD AROUND THE AGE OF 5 To 8 - This a good movie for a small child who ( like I used to be ) is obsessed with dinosaurs or monsters . Godzilla's Revenge gives us some of the most authentic scenes of everyday life seen in the Godzilla series to date . That's about all I can say good about this film . This story has no right to be a Godzilla film . Godzilla's Revenge can be described as a film where Godzilla meets Sesame Street . I cannot believe that Ishiro Honda directed this film . Or that Eiji Tsuburaya did the effects . I cannot believe I spent $20.00 dollars to purchase this . . . . Little tip for you kids : If a film is really , really , REALLY bad ; doesn't matter if you see it in VHS , SP taken from a laserdisc , the film stinks just as much .
Godzilla's Revenge has attained that special place of infamy . This is the WORST Godzilla film ever . It gets no worse than this .
