Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla II

  • 1 ratio. So do not expect the long panoramic view . The widescreen is more than likely as true as possible . I have painstakingly compared VHS to DVD , back and forth every 30 seconds , observing left , right , top , and bottom of picture. The DVD offers more picture than the VHS.IT IS NOT CROPPED.Plus it is clear and sharp . NO SCRATCHES ! A really nice treat is seeing some of the Japanese actors operating Mechagodzilla actually speaking english ( NOT DUBBED ) when audio is set to Japanese . Another good thing about the Japanese audio is that it spares us the annoying BEBBAY BEBBAY from the English audio which is supposed to be BABY So my fellow GODZILLA fans I hope I cleared up your fears of cropped picture or anything else that may have been concern. If this a title you want , go and buy it.You won't be disapointed .
    • 005 4  This is not a review of the movie . This is information of the picture presentation . First off , be advised the Heisei series was NOT filmed in 2.35 : 1 ratio. • 034 4  It is much better than the 1960 ' s and 70 ' s godzilla movies . I think it's better than Godzilla vs . Biollante movie also . Still all the godzilla movies are good but some are a lot better than others .
    • 049 4  Better than the first Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla. My son really like Rodan and Fire Rodan .
    • 052 4  Great Movie . Baby Godzilla is SO CUTE I WANT TO HUG HIM ! Mechagodzilla was boring in this film , and Rodan's look is unappealing . On the Positive side , Godzilla looks great ! Reccomended
    • 053 4  This one ranks in the top 3 Godzilla movies . G is in most of it , he adopts a baby , Rodan joins in the fun . Nonstop action . Great job all around . A must have !
    • 057 4  This movie is a great Godzilla flick. If you are a Godzilla fan you must see this movie .
    • 064 4  Not as good as the original. Now Godzilla is an enemy and Mechagodzilla a savior ? Mechagodzilla dosen't look like what he did in Godzilla vs.Mechagodzilla or Terror Of Mechagodzilla ! But still a good film .
    • 073 4  i hate to say it but this is the only godzilla film i have seen that i do not like . why ? the G man get's his ass kick then kicking and Mechagodzilla being a good guy does not work out well . if you wath a good G film then get the Godzilla VS . Mechagodzilla from 1974 .
    • 082 4  As good as I'd thought it would be.It seems nothing can stop BIG G which is fine with me . Rodan kicked butt and there was some funny scenes also.I have every G movie and I would say this one is right behind the new Godzilla vs Gidorah .
    • 083 4  This is the best of the new series . Much better than G Vs . Destroyah and G . vs . Space Godzilla !
    • 094 4  The best godzilla movie since king kong vs . godzilla full of action and great fx . Godzilla wrecks havic here , fights rodan early in the film , later is challenged by on of his more powerful foes , mechagodzilla . also seen is godzilla jr . . as good as the previous 2 sequels were this one is even better . you can't go wrong with this one .
    • 099 4  This was probably one of the best godzilla movie in the secound serie
    • 100 4  awesome fight scenes and the dubbing is okay . besides that , miki saegusa and godzilla are cool !

  • 010 4  I particularly like this film . It was originally intended to be the last of the Heisei series , with an American version scheduled for pre-production . However , we all know what happened with that , so Toho decided to have Godzilla survive until the situation with the American producers could be resolved . Scientists uncover two prehistoric eggs on Adona Island in the Bering Sea , of which one hatches into Rodan , who is somewhat disapointingly portrayed . Rodan acts as a protectorate of the other unhatched egg , which is attracting Godzilla to Adona Island . When G arrives , he engages Rodan , who is trying to protect what he thinks is his brother . In the meanwhile , the scientists narrowly escape , with the egg in tow . Godzilla is victorious , and Rodan is left for dead . When the scienists arrive back in Japan , they begin studying what they believe is a pteradon egg , in conjuntion with G-Force and Miki Saegusa , the psychic from the previous three films . They are very suprised when the egg hatches a godzillasaurus , the creature from which Godzilla was mutated . It is named Baby , and looks kind of like a green rubber ducky with sharp teeth . They are also surprised when they realize that Godzilla has a psychic attraction to the egg and has followed them to Tokyo . Godzilla destroys half of the city before he is confronted by Mchagodzilla , a new weapon created by the UNGCC as a countermeasure against G . It was developed using analysis of 23rd century cybertronics from the remains of Mecha-King Ghidorah . The fight sequence is cool , and G wins as a reult of the all-to-familiar malfunction on the part of Mechagodzilla . As Godzilla coninues his search for the egg , the scientists uncover a second brain located at the base of Baby's spine , and deduce that Godzilla must have the same anatomy , therefore , that is how they will defeat him . They begin repairs on MechaG , making it battle-worthy by combining it with Garuda , the first , failed , attempt at a weapon against Godzilla . They plan on luring G away from Tokyo , using Baby as bait , to an uninhabited island called Baas Island , where they will destroy his second brain . Unfortunately for them , Baby is scared and sends , somehow , for Rodan , who has survived an been mutated as a result of it's contact with Godzilla . Rodan kidnaps Baby , and Mechagodzilla , Godzilla , and Rodan engage in a fight to the death for fate of Japan , and Baby . Anyhow , all this is wrapped around a gratuitous drama involving a pteradactyl-loving G-force researcher , Miki Saegusa , and Baby's adpoted mother , a student named Gojo . The SFX are sometimes excellent , sometimes horrible , but they come off averaging out at pretty good , for a Heisei offering . I think Mechagodzilla looks great , despite the questionable diamond coating . It didn't work on the SX2 , why would it work now ? Godzilla lokks very strong and fierce , even though they coninued to use the high-pitched Godzilla vs . Mothra roar instead of the deep , frightening , Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah roar . The Ifukube Akira score is superb , tying in elements of some of his best work of the series , including the Destroy All Monsters score . This film is far superior to both it's predeccessor , Godzilla vs . Mothra , and it's successor , Godzilla vs . Spacegodzilla , which is absolutely awful . Overall , a must-have for any true Godzilla fan . Very entertaining .
    • 001 4  I wasn't exactly thrilled when Toho decided to pretend that all of the original Godzilla sequels never actually happened , but the new series of Godzilla films begun in the wake of Godzilla 1985 have all been excellent . Godzilla vs . MechaGodzilla holds the distinction of being the most tender and sad movie of the series . There are a number of tender moments sprinkled around all the great scenes of monster mayhem and model stomping . Ever mindful of Godzilla's constant threat , G Force has been established to find a way to ultimately defeat him ; with the help of the future technology provided by the leftovers of King Ghidorah ( from the previous movie ) , G Force has rebuilt the inimitable MechaGodzilla and fitted him with all kinds of nifty gadgets . While this is going on , two giant eggs , one of them unhatched , are found on a remote island ; the scientific team at the site barely escape with the whole egg after being attacked by a Rodan-like prehistoric creature , he of the broken egg . Godzilla shows up at the same time and actually gets knocked around pretty good by the little Rodan , but the Big G always bounces right back . Meanwhile , back in Japan , the giant egg yields a cute little Godzillasaurus , a friendlier cousin to Godzilla's own breed . You just have to love little Baby . While he does look a little strange , he is not the ridiculous-looking son of Godzilla from the original series . There's really something of a human component to Baby , which certainly made my heart go out to him . He immediately becomes attached to the young lady scientist taking care of him , and the fear , confusion , and fright he feels on a number of occasions is made manifest by his total body language as well as the red glow that comes into his eyes when he is distressed . He even brings out the good side of Rodan and Godzilla , both of whom basically fight over and because of him . The ending is particularly poignant , but I won't spoil it for anyone . I imagine that a few moviegoers may have sat through the credits trying to hide the evidence of a few tears on their cheeks . There is still plenty of destruction to be found here , so don't go thinking Godzilla has turned into a great big softie . The Big G enjoys stomping and destroying as much as he ever has , little Rodan blows plenty of buildings and people away himself , and MechaGodzilla throws everything but the kitchen sink at both of the monsters . The story is actually pretty compelling , despite the fact that a number of characters jump to a fair number of ludicrous ( yet amazingly correct ) conclusions . I had to laugh when the scientists here suddenly announced their finding that Godzilla had a second brain , located in the area that most likely first pops into your mind - that addition to the mythology I could definitely have done without . I have both the Japanese version with subtitles and the dubbed version , and I found the dubbing to be pretty good in this case . There is one awful American actor who could not act his way out of a dark room with a flashlight , but he looks bad in both versions . I still believe that Godzilla vs Mothra : Battle For Earth is the best movie from this newer Godzilla timeline , but Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II is not far behind it in terms of the entertainment value . A stomping good time will be had by all fans of the big lizard in this 1993 release .
    • 002 4  Saturday , February 12 , 2005 / 3 of 5 / Sort of middle of the road . We're getting close to having the full Godzilla collection on DVD , with this release only Biollante and Godzilla Raids again are left to release . Studying Mecha-King Ghidorah technology scientists craft the original Mecha-Godzilla , and once put into action it really clobbers Godzilla . As usual though , it breaks down and all he has to do is knock it over . This film also introduces Baby Godzilla and secondarily Rodan who seems content to tag along for the action . I thought the effects weren't quite up to some of the later in the series and even those from the prior couple Hisei movies . The back story wasn't too compelling either , following a Pteranadon loving pilot who labored on the failed Garuda project and now makes eyes at Baby's babysitter . Still for completeists sake it was a nice Godzilla romp .
    • 003 4  Holy monkey ! I just got this movie for Christmas and I loved every second of it ! I was on the edge of my seat from the opening credits with the wreackage of Mecha King Ghidora to the haunting melody of the children singing at the end . Reintroducing many characters including MechaGodzilla , now built by the UNGCC , Rodan ( now called Radon but that's OK ) , Baby Godzilla ( who could kill Minya any day ) and Godzilla is back , bigger and better than before . Here is the story : an egg has been spotted on an island . Suspected to be Rodan's egg , it turns out to be an infant Godzillasaur . Well , Godzilla comes to Tokyo looking for his kid . Problem is , so does Rodan , bringing the biggest custody battle on the planet ! MechaGodzilla , built by the UNGCC to kill Godzilla , paralyzes Godzilla and . . . . . you'll have to see the rest so you can see just how magnificent this movie is . MechaG with Garuda on it's back and Godzilla's new breath weapon was very impressive . This is a must for any and all Godzilla fans !
    • 004 4  Since , like certain reviewers have said , I had Godzilla vs . MechaGodzilla II way before the dubbed version . But , actually the Japanese version , with English subtitles , is always better than the dubbed version , since you understand the plot better . But , anyways , onto the movie . Godzilla vs . MechaGodzilla II has got to be one of the best of the series . Excellent music , fight scenes , and special effects are just some of the good areas of the movie . Godzilla is better looking than ever , and if you can tell , for both movies after this ( Godzilla vs . SpaceGodzilla Godzilla vs . Destroyah ) they used this Godzilla suit and not a newer one . MechaGodzilla is another good looking monster , much better than in the 1975 and 1977 movies , since its more rounder and has better attacks , like the Shock Cables and the Plasma Weapon , than the older MechGodzilla . MechaGodzilla also has a excellent roar , if you pay attention , and acctually sounds like a robot . Rodan is also good in this one with a better suit , but like most flying monsters , not the best that could have been done . Another excellent part of this movie is the music by Akira Ifukube . Ifukube has some of his best music in here from the older movies , and some excellent newer music like MechaGodzilla's theme and the G-Force theme . To round up this review , the models in this movie are also a highlight , especially the night battle towards the end of the movie . Overall , a excellent movie and a must for any Godzilla fan .
    • 006 4  This is probably the best in the Heisei Godzilla series . Plenty of special effects action , good characterizations and great music . The tape I have was recorded in sp mode , so the sound and picture quality is first-rate . And , if you have a Dolby surround sound system , it will knock your socks off ! A must have for G-Fans !
    • 007 4  Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla was an awesome movie I loved it when godzilla used his new red spiral atomic ray to blow Super-Mechagodzilla to pieces and I think that mechagodzilla should have appeared more often in the movie .
    • 008 4  This was the last of the Heisei movies that I had yet to see . It was worth the wait ! Director Takao Okawara does a superb job , wringing all the drama he can from each scene . In fact , some of his directing style is reminiscent of a certain guy named Speilberg . Godzilla is in virtually the entire movie , which was a big plus to me . Seeing the return of Rodan and MechaGodzilla as the powerful foe for this movie was wonderful , as well . The special effects , fight scenes , and action are all the best Heisei has to offer . Non-Godzilla fans can watch and enjoy this film . That's how good I think it is . G vs . Destroyer was the best until I saw this one . This one is truly the best !
    • 009 4  I'll examine this movie part by part . - The script . For once , a Godzilla movie with a plot ! This served as a very nice way to re-introduce us to some old friends . - The SFX . Even better then in Godzilla vs . Destoroyah . Godzilla's ray , Rodan's flight , MechaGodzilla's arsenal . . . You can't top these . - The monsters . Aside from the Big G himself , we have his cybernetic duplicate , his possible offspring , and a huge , mutated pteranadon named Rodan , my favorite monster of all time . - The actors . Not as much horrible over-acting as we usually get in Godzilla movies . This scores high in every category ! - Thanos6
    • 011 4  This is a great Godzilla film without a doubt . The monsters look awesome , Mechagodzilla has much better weapons , and Godzilla gets a new breath attack called the Spiral Fire ray . He gets it after Rodan brings him back to life . Godzilla uses it to destroy Mechagodzilla . THis movie doesn ` t have much of a plot but who really cares ? This movie is too exiting to take away a star . I did feel bad for Rodan . I also think that baby Godzilla is Adorable . This movie is a great movie but if you like movies that have chunks of plot then avoid it . But you would still enjoy it .
    • 012 4  This movie was absolutely excellent . It is undoubtedly the BEST of the newer Heisei series of Godzilla films . This video features awesome music by Akira Ifukube , Godzilla films ' musical master ( I especially liked Mechagodzilla's theme music ) , the return of both BabyGodzilla and Rodan ( actually Radon ) , and of course a great new look for the Big G . Mechagodzilla definitely steals the show . He is a much better installation than the 70 ' s version ( ick ) and literally whips . . . until destroyed by Godzilla's more powerful heat beam . Rodan is awesome in the beginning and the battle between him and Godzilla is great too . BabyGodzilla is a million times better than the old one ( Minya ) and looks much more like Godzilla than he ever did . Godzilla's new suit is somewhat larger and the head is smaller . The eyes were also given a golden hue and the puppet of his head expresses true emotion . The acting is great also . Overall , great music and stunning special effects collide to produce an excellent daikaiju fighting movie that is considered by MANY , MANY fans to be the absolute best of the entire Godzilla series .
    • 013 4  I must first point out that the version of this film that I have is the orginal Japanese with English subtitles , so I don't have the dubbed version . Thank God , because the dubbing always makes the film not as good . However it is interesting to note that in the original version , the characters speak English half the times anyways , especially when they are using MechaGodzilla to fight Godzilla , and there are a few American actors in the film as well . Anyway , for me , Godzilla vs . MechaGodzilla , or Gojira tai MechaGojira in Japanese , is one of the best Godzilla films ever made . First of all , Godzilla , while he is not as slim as he was in Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah or Godzilla vs . Mothra , is an excellent suit , that makes him seem even more reptilian than most times before . Rodan also makes a refreshing and good entrance in the film , as well as in the finale , and the suit of Rodan is much better than that of the older style . The Mecha-Godzilla suit is , in my opinion , the best looking of the film suits , since the robot is rounder and nicer looking than the evil version from the 1970 ' s . Music is another highlight of this film . Akira Ifukube composes , in my opinion , some of his best work for the film , including the MechaGodzilla theme , which is excellent in my opinion , and the best Godzilla oponent music , on par with the King Ghidorah theme from Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah . The special effects of the film are another highlight , and the finale battle scene , with Godzilla , Rodan , and MechaGodzilla all fighting each other , is an excellent piece in the middle of a couple of skyscrapers and buildings of a city . Overall , this film is an excellent addition to any Godzilla fan library , and I was glad to order this film when I did .
    • 014 4  Godzilla vs . MechaGodzilla ( 1993 ) is a great Godzilla movie with great acting , great special effects , a great storyline / plot , and great monsters to go with it . The Heisei series lays claim to having the best looking and most realistic Godzilla ever ! Godzilla's raw power , strength , and animalistic fury make him the true King of the Monsters in this great series of films . Yet , despite his savage nature , Godzilla shows a tender side in this film for his son Godzilla Junior ( known as Baby Godzilla in this film ) . MechaGodzilla is truelly a force to be feared in this movie . The metalic kaiju reminds me of the Showa MechaGodzilla from the past . Armed with missiles , NT - 20 armor , shock ancors , plasma grenade , and a mega-buster beam from the mouth ; this MechaGodzilla is ready to take on Godzilla ! Rodan is well designed , despite being smaller than Godzilla and MechaGodzilla , he plays a vital part in the film's climatic battle . Baby Godzilla is adorable and is potrayed in a very animalistic way . Yes , this little guy would become the new king in the future . The acting is great . A soild cast of characters and faces that we fans have come to recognize through the entire series of Heisei films . Oh , why can't they return to continue the storyline after Godzilla vs . Destroyer ? ! The special effects are great ! Some of the best that I have seen in a Godzilla film to date ! The special effects help with telling the great storyline of this classic monster movie . So buy this movie and enjoy it ! It is worth the price and it is an awesome entry in the Heisei Godzilla film series . So buy and enjoy this awesome film again and again ! : )
    • 016 4  I am not much of a MechaGodzilla fan , but this movie was ok . Not the best in the Heisei series , definitely not the best out of the entire Godzilla series . The story was good , and so was everything else but I always seem to find MechaGodzilla a little too boring for me . Introducing Godzilla Jr . into the series was good . Calling Rodan by its original Japanese name Radon wasn't that good of an idea . I realize that this is the new series , but come on , call it Rodan , the name people know . Overall , like I said , it's okay . But I'm not really a MechaGodzilla fan so I don't know what MechaGodzilla fans would think about the movie . They might love it to death . So I recommend this movie to MechaGodzilla fans only . It's not bad ; it's just not that great either
    • 017 4  What more can you ask.You got Mechagozilla looks bad ass I mean there was alot of major upgrade to him.Godzilla looking cool as ever espcially in this flick the suit was pretty cool. You got a new and improve Rodan ! ! Yup Rodan ! ! hes back and blast rays from his mouth.Storyline very original I mean godzilla vs Mechagodzilla theres really no storyline you know whats going to happen a big monster battle.Minya looks cool better then that retarded one in the showa ages.Akira Ifukube's music score is awesome the master of all godzilla music.I mean this is a must see flick and must have .
    • 018 4  In the beginning people plan to make a wepon to kill Godzilla . So they made a robot Godzilla to defeat him . They named it Mechagodzilla . Explorers go to Adnoa Island and get an egg . They think it is a Pteranodon , but it is really Baby Godzilla . Then Godzilla destroys a city . Godzilla fights Mechagodzilla and Godzilla wins . Godzilla destroys Kyoto . Later Radon ( Fire rodan ) fights Mechagodzilla . Then Godzilla comes and fights him.Godzzzzilla is killed but regenerated by Radon . Godzilla destroys Mechagodzilla and takes Baby Godzilla home .
    • 019 4  This flick was second on our list of ' must have ' ' Zillas . All we had read about it was nigh true . The monster action is very well staged and the opening credits with the views of Mecha G being given the once over by a tech team are just ace . It sets the scene for essentially 90 + minutes of top Kaiju action . Once again Megumi Odaka ( psychic Miki Segusa ) does her daffy best to stand by Big G but gets all confused when the going gets tough and boy does it ! Plot ( such as it is , gets unceremoneously dumped and so do most of the character developments-who needs ' em ) . The new Mecha G is a superb design , coming on like a souped up overweight Macross vehicle . Rodan is v.nice too , now only a huge puppet and not some poor soul in 250 pounds of rubber . As for Godzilla , the new Rado-Goji suit is ace . Kenpachiro Satsuma ( what a name ! ) slams it around good style as the Big G and gives it all in the name of Toho . The plot is trim and moves at a nippy pace to a barnstormin ' conclusion . We personally like the ' light show ' style of the laser beam riddled battles of the Heisei series G films and G vs Mecha G delivers the goods in spades ! The sfx are well up to standard ( not like the dire ' shoe string ' Space Godzilla ) and a realistic miniature Tokyo once again gets it in the teeth . Alas ( you knew there was one didn't you ) , the dubbing is quite spectacular in its ineptness . Its poorly ( even by G film standards ) synced and totally misleads the viewer in some scenes . This may be just a niggle but we like our plots to make some sense . Regardless , this film just barrels along and so will you . So set ' em up and knock ' em down ! Go buy and enjoy !
    • 020 4  OK , down to basics . SFX and music-wise , this is positively the best G-film of all , preceding Godzilla 2000 , which I haven't seen yet . The musical score is Akira Ifukube's best soundtrack since 1968 ' s Destroy All Monsters , without question . His new MechaGodzilla theme is positively awe-inspiring at times , perfectly capturing the awesome visual majesty of Godzilla's cyborg double . The SFX are some of Kawakita's very best , even surpassing the high hurdle he himself set during G . vs . King Ghidorah . Story-wise , the film holds up fairly well , and the new Baby Godzilla actually emotes very well . . . better than some of his live-action counterparts , as a matter of fact ! Godzilla himself is positively magnificent . The body language is incredible - - Kenpatchiro Satsuma really NAILED the part inside the rubber suit this time ! The dubbing aside ( as always , I prefer a subtitled version ! ) , this is one of the very best of the Godzilla films , from ANY of the series . G + MG = Mega-fun !
    • 021 4  Oh , this one is good . Really , really good . get past the dubbing , and this movie rocks . Mechagodzilla never looked better , Rodan is outstanding , Baby is an interesting twist , and Godzilla has never looked better . This movie is so good , I can't describe it . Godzilla's new orange flame at the end is so cool , and it has humor . Not stupid humor , but it is funny . This movie is a definite * * * * * , without a doubt . If you own only three G movies ever , make them Godzilla , King of the Monsters , Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla II , and Godzilla vs . Destoroyah . This is a must own .
    • 022 4  I highly enjoyed this film . I have been a godzilla fan since I was eight and I have seen all his movies and this is great ! It's nice to see Godzilla witha good plot and good . . . well . . . EVERYTHING ! ! ! I can't wait to see the Godzilla 2000 movie this December ! ! ! Godzilla is a cultral icon everywhere you go there is something that IS godzilla or is trying to be Godzilla . Despite the failure of the American Godzilla , Toho's originator still beats out everything . I also liked the reference to Mecha-Ghidora in the beginning ! The Heisei films have a great continuety and have strong story lines now a day ! I highly recomend this AND the Godzilla vol.II soundtrack it's missing some greats but still has the best songs from the Godzilla films ! GO GODZILLA ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
    • 023 4  This was a great movie , but there was some errors with thedubbing that made the movie a little messed up . But I won't hold itagainst the movie . They just messed up the words . Like Radon instead of Rodan . And Then That guys maching Pteradon . In the Japanese movie , Pteradon is called Mecha-Rodan . But besides that , the FX and everything else was outstanding
    • 024 4  I may be too old to do a review for this movie ( I'm 42 ) , since all of the others appear to be written by 9 - year-old boys . But I've been a G-Fan for many years and had to endorse the 90 ' s version of Godzilla Vs . MechaGodzilla . The new hardware is fun , especially Mecha-G's jet-pack laser-cannon . The FX are flashy , with plenty of computer-enhanced heat blasts from ALL versions of The Big G . ( Although no one bothered to remove the visible strings that allow the monsters to fly . ) I was curious why the English dubbing calls the new incarnation of Rodan Raydon . ( Probably a simple typo in the script , but a major detail boo-boo nonetheless . ) I'd say this is definitely one to buy for the true G-Fan .
    • 025 4  This is by far the most action-packed Godzilla movie yet ! I especially like the fact that Rodan returns to the series . Ifukuble's score is masterful . Includes some excellent human drama . GvsMG 2 contains some of the best acting and special effects in the whole series ! The climatic battle is breathtaking ! I ' ve seen all 23 Godzilla films ( including the American ) and this is the best ! Its a must have !
    • 026 4  I've been a G-fan for quite a while , and when I heard that MG was back , I went beserk , and bought this movie . Anyway , this is a great movie for any Godzilla fan . It connects with Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah ( 1991 version ) with Mechagodzilla being built out of parts of MechaGhidorah that are found in the ocean . This being said , this movie should have been released in 1992 instead of Godzilla vs . Mothra : The battle for Earth . The previous film , which was more of a movie for girls , has been rewritten with MechaGodzilla , which is more of a film for young boys . ( Who doesn't like a giant robot at the age of 6 or 7 ? ) There is more graphic violence in this film ( Rodan , or Radon , frothing and trying to breath as Godzilla slowly chokes him to death ) so some kids might want to watch out . One of the main reasons I bought this film is because Rodan , or Radon , is back ! To bad Anguiris doesn't show up until much later . A definite choice for those who like action , or just General Godzilla fans !
    • 027 4  Just got this one and I LIKE it . It introduces the monsters immediately and the fight scenes are GREAT ! It even adds emotion to Godzilla when he tries to blast the robot , only to see his flame bounce off . Godzillasaurus is unneeded but , again , it adds something to Godzilla , which will be needed in the series ' future . The story involves the discovery of a egg which hatches a baby Godzilla . Godzilla comes to claim it and the humans unleash MechaGodzilla to stop the monster . What is important is that this baby Godzilla has playful , caring even loving interactions with humans . These interactions will be useful in Godzilla vs . Destroyah , when the elder Godzilla dies and the younger Godzilla takes over , as protector of Earth . The failure of MechaGodzilla to destroy Godzilla is due to a false premise . While it is often said that Humans created Godzila , really , Godzilla is a force of nature , like the wind . You can no more stop Godzilla than you can stop the wind . Every attempt to use technology will fail .
    • 028 4  Here's the plot : In 1992 the UNGCC is formed.Their first act salvage Mecha-King-Ghidorah.Learning the secrets of this advanced cyber-weapon , the UNGCC builds 2 robots. The first one is called Garuda. But it's considered a failure for it can't possibly match Godzilla in battle. But the second , Mechagodzilla , is the UNGCC's pride.Aoki , a worker at UNGCC who helped build Garuda , is transferred to the crew of Mechagodzilla.Meanwhile on Adonoa Island a research team finds a Pteranodon skeleton , a hatched Pteranodon egg , a preserved egg that seems alive , and a prehistoric fern. That night , a giant Pteranodon who is named Rodan ( Radon in this movie ) by one of the teams scientists attacks the team.Godzilla shows up and battles Rodan.During the fight the team escapes. But as they put the egg aboard the helicopter , it glows red.Godzilla seems to kill Rodan with his atomic breath.Aoki sneaks in the room the egg is being kept and steals the prehistoric fern.He takes the fern to the ESP center. The children there come up with psychic music and they play it.The egg hatches immediately. But instead of a baby Rodan , a Baby Godzilla emerges. The music revives Rodan who becomes Fire Rodan and heads for Japan.Godzilla arives and heads for Kyoto.Mechagodzilla is launched , but Aoki is taking a vacation when he shouldn't.Godzilla defeats Mechagodzilla and heads for Kyoto. The team and Baby Godzilla hide in an underground building. It's learned that Baby Godzilla's eyes glow red when he's afraid and has imprinted on Azuza , one of the scientists. It's later learned that Baby Godzilla has a second brain in his hip and the same must be true with Godzilla.Baby Godzilla is put in a crate to attract Godzilla and Azuza keeps him company.Fire Rodan takes the crate and heads for Tokyo.Aoki suggests to the UNGCC that they double Mechagodzilla's power by attaching Garuda to it's back. They agree and create Super Mechagodzilla.Fire Rodan tries to open the crate but Super Mechagodzilla attacks and Fire Rodan is killed.Godzilla arrives and the plan to kill him unfolds. The Shock Anchor and cables from Mechagodzilla's wrist shocks Godzilla's second brain and kills Godzilla.Baby Godzilla senses his father is in trouble and calls the dying Fire Rodan.Fire Rodan flies over to Godzilla , dissolves into radioactive mist , revives Godzilla , gives him unbelievable power.Godzilla breathes reddish-orange fire and destroys Super Mechagodzilla.Godzilla takes Baby Godzilla and the two swim to Birth Island , where they will live in peace. The end . This is my favorite Godzilla movie of all.The people of Toho outdid themselves when they made this movie. The SPFX are amazing.Any fan of Godzilla must get this movie .
    • 029 4  Out of the new Godzilla genre , this has to have the most action and soundtrack . The story is one that lets the whole family be involved in that it is not just action and horror !
    • 030 4  I watched this movie at 3am on the Sci-Fi yesterday , and I am so glad I skipped out on sleeping ! Having recently watched Godzilla , Mothra , King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters Attack , I almost lost faith in Godzilla . But this movie was fun and entertaining ! In this movie , the human scenes aren't boring , and they don't drag its feet around like the previously mentioned movie . The human scenes are actually fun - maybe not as campy as I like it , but it definitely works for me . As for the monster scenes , they're great ! In this movie , you feel like the monsters are the focus . . . and rightly so ! There is tons of city-stomping in addition to the required monster-on-monster action . Just to let you know , there are 3 fight scenes : 1 ) Godzilla vs . Radon 2 ) Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla 3 ) The Final Showdown consisting of : - Mechagodzilla ( with help of the aircraft , Garuda ) vs . Radon - Godzilla vs . Supermechagodzilla [ note : I'm not sure why they refer to Rodan as Radon in this movie ] [ also note : Supermechagodzilla = Mechagodzilla combined with Garuda ] Overall , the scenes flowed well together . The pacing was great . And I was never once bored ; whereas in Giant Monsters Attack , I had to slap myself several times to keep myself awake . That's right . Godzilla movies are meant to entertain you . . . not send you to sleep . I only have 2 gripes with this movie : 1 ) the monster-on-monster action consists primarily of ranged attacks ( e.g . heat beams , atomic breath , missiles , etc ) and not very much of that WWE Smackdown variety that's so fun to watch . Nevertheless , the fight scenes are still enjoyable . 2 ) I didn't like the Godzilla costume for some reason . For one thing , he seemed too lengthy . Secondly , his snout reminded me of a dog's . In fact , his snout remdined me of that giant , white dog from Neverending Story .
    • 031 4  Dear readers , I've been fasinated with godzilla ever since I was 4 so I have seen almost every godzilla movie.I think that for a godzilla movie it has great special fx . In this movie not only do mechagodzilla and godzilla fight , but to father a baby godzillasaure rodan and godzilla battle . Mechagodzilla was found and rebuilt by a society called the G force . They use it as a weapon to kill godzilla . I think it is a very good movie . i hope you enjoyed my review . Michael Howell
    • 032 4  This is easily one of the best Godzilla films out there ( I have seen most of them ) and certainly the best of the ones released after 85 . The effects are the best of any Godzilla film period . Mechagodzilla rocks , Godzilla does not look cheap like every other film , Rodan is great ( especially fire Rodan ) although the first fight between G and R made me think otherwise . Baby Godzilla is fairly well done it does not look like some cheap creature that bares no resemblance to G ( See SpaceGodzilla ) . Baby G is cooler in G vs . Destryoah but hey this is a better film . The plot is admirable . It looks like they tried to make it decent , ulnilke other attempts ( Godzilla vs . Biolante ) . The dubbed version is alright and is not nearly as annoying as some of the others . Godzilla having two brains or whatever is far fetched but it didn't end up bothering me at the end of the film . The actors do decent jobs and some of the moments were quite touching ( which is saying something consdering this is a G film ) . I found there to be few fights in this film , however the ones that are shown are great . The last fight is memorable an d only ads to the great fight scenes that were seen in the previous two G movies ( I really liked G vs . Mothra 1992 ) . Overall , one of the best looking and best acted Godzilla films . It's not like the film will win any awards but it should win over any G fan .
    • 035 4  I'd say this is the best one next to Godzilla vs . Destoroyah ! Baby Godzilla was extremely cool , and now I wish I had one as a pet ! ( Sort of , LoL ) . The model work is excellet and the chroma-key with Godzilla and the humans is the best ! But like every movie in the world there's a mistakes . Some visible strings on Rodan and instead of calling Rodan Rodan , ( lot of Rodans in this sentence , LoL ) they call him Radon which is actually Rodan's Japanese name . But don't let that bother you , it's a Godzilla movie ! ! ! ! MechaGodzilla's weapons are so powerful , it would be able to crush the new Tri-Star Godzilla in no time ! Rodan's heat beam is cool looking and so is Godzilla's suit . The dubbing is the best ( except for the news woman part ) and my favorite part is when Godzilla's atomic ray turns red which will also be used at the end in Godzilla vs . SpaceGodzilla and Godzilla's permenent ray in Godzilla vs . Destoroyah . Buy this one ! And also make sure you buy Godzilla vs . Destoroyah too !
    • 036 4  This review is from : Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla II ( DVD ) This is definitely my faveourite movie of the Godzilla hesei series it is just chock full of action and very fun battles to watch . It contains some of the best special effects Godzilla has to offer and the reintroduction of Rodan was a good choice but I wish he didn't look so rubbery . Mechagodzilla's ability to reflect heat beams was a good idea so it gives Godzilla a better challenge and due to Godzilla's limited ability to move and punch it just made his foe even harder to defeat.Well done Toho for an entertaining release .

    • 038 4  This review is from : Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla II ( DVD ) MechaGodzilla II is no relation of Godzilla's mechanical doppelganger from 1974 ' s Godzilla vs . MechaGodzilla and its 1975 sequel , Terror of MechaGodzilla . The original was a destructive tool designed by space aliens intent on conquering Earth , while this one is the brainchild of G-Force , the agency charged with protecting human civilization from Godzilla . The Sony DVD offers a good widescreen print , with a choice of English dubbing or original Japanese language with subtitles . After 1992 ' s rather lame Godzilla vs . Mothra , Toho rebounded with a new incarnation of MechaGodzilla , this time conceived as humanity's best weapon against Godzilla , manufactured with the aid of future technology ( left over from 1991 ' s Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah ) . Though the design of the artificial daikaiju isn't as impressive as either the original or the Millennium series ' version ( known as Kiryu ) , its confrontations with Godzilla are often masterfully staged . A new version of Rodan , the flying monster , makes an appearance here , though its design and execution are both somewhat lackluster . Godzilla has a new offspring , realized with considerably more success than in 1967 ' s Son of Godzilla . Despite some inevitable parallels to Gorgo , the scenes with the baby Godzilla add a somewhat surprising measure of pathos to the story , as does the well-timed inclusion of some insight to Godzilla's nature . With a decent cast , excellent special effects , a better-than-average plot , and a top-notch musical score , Godzilla vs . MechaGodzilla II stands out as one of the most impressive entries in the Heisei ( 1989 - 1995 ) Godzilla series .

    • 040 4  This review is from : Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla II ( DVD ) This is a great entry in the long running ( and apparently endless ) Godzilla series . Godzilla vs . MechaGodzilla II brings back a couple of fan favorites for another showdown in Tokyo . Yes , this is a sequel , but not to the Showa entry Terror of Mechagodzilla that came out in 1975 . MechaGodzilla II actually follows up on events that occurred in Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah and Godzilla vs . Mothra : Battle for the Earth . Using the robotic head of Mecha King Ghidorah , scientists craft the ultimate weapon to battle Godzilla . . . MechaGodzilla . MechaGodzilla looks awesome here ! I think I prefer his look in this film over his later appearances in the Millenium series films . Also ruining Japan's day is a nifty appearance by Rodan , the giant flying pteranodon we haven't seen in action since Destory all Monsters . Rodan is found hatched from an egg on a remote island , where another egg remains intact and covered by a strange plant . There are some great fight scenes here , and I have to say , some of the punishment dished out Godzilla's way actually made me wince a few times ! The special effects are top notch , as is the original score by Toho / Godzilla legendary composer Akira Ifukube . If you are only familiar with the 1960 ' s / 1970 ' s Godzilla films , I highly recommend these 1990 ' s productions .

    • 042 4  While it lacks the somber poetry of Godzilla vs . Biollante and the dark intensity of Godzilla vs . Destroyer , which would come two years later , Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla is the centerpiece of the Heisei era . It features four different monsters ( Godzilla , Mechagodzilla , Little Godzilla , and Rodan ) , a large cast of human characters , and frequent action sequences . Though Kazuki Omori , who wrote good scripts for the previous three films , is absent here , the writers of this film do an adequate job of keeping the series alive . The special effects vary from great to poor , as usual for every Godzilla film , but for the most part , the effects are well-done ( especially when compared to Godzilla vs . SpaceGodzilla and most of the Millennium films ) . Mechagodzilla has never looked more intimidating , nor Godzilla more life-like and animated . Rodan could use some work , but at least he looks like a creature that could actually fly as opposed to a guy in a suit , like in the 60s films . Little Godzilla is cute , but not the dumb kind of cute like Minya from the old films ; this new Little Godzilla is plausible as a creature , and never engages in slapstick humor . More importantly , the film boasts an expansive script and storyline that allows not only Godzilla to be developed as a character ( at the start , he is his usual remorseless self , but by the end , he's a somewhat caring father ) , but also Megumi Odaka's character Dr . Saegusa , who had been relatively neglected in the previous film , Godzilla vs . Mothra . Dr . Saegusa , who is the emotional core of the Heisei films , undergoes a dramatic shift here , from an enemy of Godzila to an ally , and the change really benefits the series as a whole . Too often are human characters given routine plotlines in kaiju films . Overall , Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla is easily one of the finest films in the series . Unfortunately , this DVD doesn't do it justice . I have a VHS version of the film with subtitles that are accurate to what the actors are saying ; this DVD , however , has inept dubtitles that instead follow the horrendous English dubbing . If you absolutely need this film , get this DVD . On the other hand , if you want to watch a quality version of the movie , wait for a better DVD with accurate subtitles .
    • 043 4  This film is the best entry in the Heisei series & one of the greatest G films of all time ! Here Mechagodzilla is presented not as an alien creation , but as the latest weapon created by man to destroy Godzilla once and for all . Complicating matters is the discovery of an egg that eventually hatches a baby Godzillasaurus ( Gojirasaurus in Japanese ) and the appearance of the Rodan ( Radon in Japanese ) , a monster bird with a psychic link to Baby ( as he is named by his keepers ) . There is a nice nature vs technology theme running through the script - literally represented in the scenes where Garuda's revival of Mechagodzilla is mirrored by Rodan's revival of Godzilla . Baby is light years ahead of Minya , but still cute and cuddly ( for the youngsters out there ) . I like how the filmmakers highlighted the emotions of the monsters : Baby crying as he is left by his mother so he can be adopted by Godzilla , Godzilla roaring in frustration and anger as he is unable to find the little dinosaur , Rodan's determination to assist Baby even as he lies dying . Such moments elevate this film above other monster films that too often treat the monsters as nothing more that king-sized nuisances . Performances by the cast range from good to excellent and the story moves along at a brisk clip . As usual , there are many spfx highlights : Rodan & Godzilla squaring off on Adona Island , Mechagodzilla rising from dry dock to battle his reptilian nemesis & , of course , the final showdown between the monsters that will decide the fate of Baby . Akira Ifukube contributes one of his best scores . The CD is long out of print but well worth seeking out ( just be prepared to spend a pretty penny to get it ) . I cannot recommend this film highly enough . If you love Godzilla , chances are you will love this film too !
    • 044 4  a fantastic dvd . the production values are excellent . anamorphic widescreen picture , choices of languages . clear subtitles . Fantastic sound quality . Oh , its Godzilla too ! How can you go wrong ?
    • 045 4  Not bad for 90 ' s Godzilla movie . Updated effects ! Unlike like the other 90 ' s release , this one got both language english , and japanese . Hopefully Sony will do the same for the other 90 ' s release .
    • 046 4  My eldest kid loves Godzilla . After getting this DVD , all of my kids enjoy it . A classic movie that also has an option to enjoy the movie in Japanese or English ! A quality movie with excellent picture . A must have for the Godzilla fanatic !
    • 047 4  This movie has a great picture and is very enjoyable . Have seen alot of these movies and the picture and clarity could not even compare to this one . The shipping was great , received exactly when they said I would .
    • 048 4  GvsMG2 is one of my favorite Heisei Godzilla films . I used to watch it vigorously as a kid when it was released on VHS in ' 99 . When Tristar announced they had acquired the rights to several G-films and were releasing them to DVD , I was a little disappointed that this was not on the list . When they finally did release this particular movie , I couldn't wait to get it . Unfortunately , when compared to the Tristar DVDs of Godzilla vs . the Smog Monster or the original Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla , this one falls short of my expectations . First of all , the fact that both Japanese and English audio is available is a plus . However , they're NOT in 5.1 surround but 2.0 stereo and handled pretty poorly with lots of unequalized sound and echos . I won't talk about the English dub except say that it's god-awful . Even worse , the subtitles are taken from the English dub and NOT translated from the Japanese version , which means that what you're reading in English isn't what they're saying in Japanese . Alot of things are mistranslated or overly simplified and sound just plain stupid . Second , the anamorphic widescreen is again a plus , but the quality of the print is not pristine , surprising for a film that's only a little older than 10 years . The print itself is the same video print Tristar released on VHS , with bland fonted credits at the beginning and worst of all the removal of the closing credits , replaced by a quick copyright statement . For a movie like this where the credits are rolling over an actual scene from the film , this is unforgivable . It was terrible on VHS , and why they did the same for the DVD is inexplicable . As a side note , all the other Tristar DVDs ( excluding the 2 double-sided discs for GvsKG / GvsMothra and GvsSG / GvsDestroyah ) come with the complete credits , especially the newer films . Special features , like all the Tristar releases , are non-existent , which is a real shame . I don't understand why Tristar doesn't include making of features on ALL their discs because the Toho R2 releases have a wealth of making of featurettes and trailers , so they do exist and are available . In conclusion , while better than the first crop of DVDs released by Tristar in the late ' 90s / early ' 00s , this one falls well below their better quality releases of some of the older films as well as the newer ones . If you could care less about print and audio quality , special features , and correct subtitles go ahead and buy this DVD . If you want the definitive version , get a region-free player and buy the R2 DVD .
    • 050 4  This is a really good movie . Cool MechaGodzilla and great special effects . This is the only Godzilla 90 ' s movie where you don't see wires every time you see a flying monster But the only reason that I give this movie four stars is the look of Rodan ( Scratch that . Radon ) He looks really weird in this movie . But a big leap on Baby Godzilla . He doesn't look like Cookie Monster anymore . Awesome Finale ! !
    • 051 4  A middle of the road Godzilla flick , this film sees one of Godzilla's classic foes return , marking the third time Godzilla has clashed with his mechanical counterpart . This second incarnation of Mechagodzilla is a construction of the humans as opposed to aliens , and is designed to put an end to Godzilla's reign of destruction , as opposed to conquering the planet . Based upon the technology left behind by Mecha-King Ghidora in 1991 ' s Godzilla vs . King Ghidora , this version of Mechagodzilla is impervious to Godzilla's atomic breath weapon and is loaded with missiles , laser cannons , and a weapon called the plasma grenade that can absorb Godzilla's breath and then use it against him . It also has electrical cables called shock anchors that can pierce Godzilla's skin and hit him with a powerful electrical charge , and an ultimate weapon known as the G-Crusher that can paralyze Godzilla . Why have I gone to all this trouble to tell you about Mechagodzilla's weapons ? I did that because in the end , they don't matter , and Godzilla trashes Mechagodzilla badly . There , I've spoiled the ending ; I'm a bad man . I guess you probably guessed that , though , because it always seems that Godzilla finds a way to win , no matter how badly the deck is stacked against him . I know Godzilla is supposed to be the villain and all , but be honest , how many of us are really rooting for the humans to destroy him ? I always cheer for Godzilla to teach those puny humans a lesson they should have learned a long time ago : You cannot kill Godzilla ; you can only piss him off . Let him stomp Tokyo flat and find a nice place to live where he won't come and crush you . Problem solved . A large chunk of the film's plot centers on a baby Godzilla found on a distant island , and the return of Rodan . Rodan and Godzilla have a violent custody battle over the baby , but by the time they're finished , those dastardly humans have stolen the kid ( who has yet to hatch at that point ) . Godzilla and Rodan are both telepathically drawn to the baby , and the humans decide to use this to smash the nuclear leviathan once and for all . What's interesting is that the baby Godzilla actually seems afraid of Godzilla - maybe he thinks he'll be an abusive dad - and calls out to Rodan when he needs help . Rodan spoils the human's plans by snatching the baby , but Mechagodzilla proves to be far too much for the pterodactyl to handle - Rodan's death at Mechagodzilla's hands is pretty gruesome . In the end , Godzilla prevails with Rodan's help . The baby Godzilla seems apprehensive at following his adoptive father - it seems like he would much rather stay behind with the humans , but the scientist who's been working with him knows he must leave . The fear you can see in the baby's eyes as it approaches the shore to follow Godzilla out to sea is pretty touching . I found this film to be entertaining enough , and the return of Rodan was cool . Mechagodzilla seemed a bit overpowered , and doesn't look nearly as slick as his third incarnation in the Millennium Series . As usual , I could have done with a bit less human drama and a bit more giant-monster action , but you can't have everything , right ? Still , as far as Godzilla adventures go , this one is well-done and fairly satisfying , it just lacks that little extra something to catapult it to the level of such masterworks as Godzilla vs . Destoroyah and Godzilla , Mothra , and King Ghidora : Giant Monsters all-out Attack .
    • 054 4  This is overall a great addition to the Heisei Era films . However , after seeing it recently it wasn't quite as good as I remembered it , and here's why : 1 ) It's probably the cheesiest of these newer flicks , but this may be due to the dubbing . I groaned at scenes that were supposed to be funny , and laughed when scenes were supposed to be sad . But this is just the part of me that is growing up , unfortunately . You can never go back , as they say . 2 ) I was actually kind of bored this time ' round . But like with the first reason , I didn't used to . Anyway , on to the pros : Akira Ifukube's music rocks , as always , and the MechaGodzilla theme is more powerful than the actual robot . The main reason I don't like this MechaGodzilla is that he doesn't really fight . He just stands there shooting things at Godzilla . And I found the design sort of bland . I also didn't like Rodan / Radon in this film , although his battles were pretty well done . On a good note , this movie lets the character of Miki Saegusa really shine , after being practically ignored in the last two films . Megumi Odaka give another outstanding performance , of course ; she's my favorite character in the entire Godzilla series . Moving on , I liked Baby Godzilla , in that they retained the cute factor ( from Minilla ) , yet didn't overdo it ( like Minilla ) . I was surprisingly moved by the ending , with Godzilla swimming away with Baby . Speaking of which , the climax is spectacular , more than making up for what flaws the film had . In conclusion , don't you dare call yourself a Godzilla fan without seeing GODZILLA VS . MECHAGODZILLA II . Even if you're not too partial to the Heisei series , this one is worth a watch .
    • 055 4  As with any Godzilla movie , you had to grow up watching these films to appreciate them . I don't think much more can be said . Godzilla 2000 is the only one of the bunch that I would ever show to a non-believer . As for this particular film , see my first sentence .
    • 056 4  Japan is in the state of terror , as long as Godzilla is still alive . They watch as the King Of Monsters attacks them . Fourtunetly , the goverment collected the remains of the machine from the future from the 1991 film , Godzilla Vs . King Ghidorah , Mecha-King Ghidorah . They then create , Mechagodzilla . Meanwhile scientists find an egg on an island , beleived to be in a terrandon's nest . Rodan arrives to collect the egg , but Godzilla also is on a quest to gather the egg . Narrowly escaping the destruction that the struggle of the two monsters cause , the egg hatches in Baby Godzilla . Godzilla and Rodan return to collect it , but Mechagodzilla gets into the way to attack . Now who will claim to be Baby Godzilla's mother [ or father ] ? Will Mechagodzilla innhilate the two monsters and leave Baby Godzilla alone with mankind ?
    • 058 4  Like Godzilla ? Like the new Godzillas ? Hate the American ? Here's the answer to all your problems : GODZILLA VS MECHAGODZILLA II . While many people said it was the best , I disagree . It's the third best ( after the orginal and DESTROY ALL MONSTERS ) . And please take note I've seen all the Godzilla movies , foreign and domestic .
    • 059 4  This movie is one of Godzilla's best . I really like how TOHO re-designed Rodan , Baby Godzilla and MechaGodzilla , Rodan is given a more dragon look and can now blast a heat beam from his mouth like Godzilla . Mechagodzilla is given a smoother , sleeker look and has more powerful weapons than before . Baby Godzilla is given a more dinosaur look and isn't as cute as before . Godzilla as always looks great , his head now displays more life like expressions than in any of the movies before this . The theme music is great it really gets you into the movie. The battles keep you at the edge of your seat , and the special effects are great . This movie is fun for the whole family , I would recommend this movie to any Godzilla fan , Sci-Fi fan , or anyone who wants to see a fun monster movie .
    • 060 4  There's always problems when dubbing movies from Japanese to English , and it's guaranteed that you'll get one or two laughs . But the dubbing for this movie is terrible , if only for the fact that Fire Rodan is called Radon in the movie . It's a shame because the FX are great and the story is , too . Godzilla vs . Destoroyah is a much better film and a fitting end to the Heisei series .
    • 061 4  A quick note : I have not seen the dubbed version of this movie , having had the Japanese original for some time now . Thus , I have no idea just how good the dubbing is ( or how BAD , as is usually the case , sadly ) . That being said , this movie is very , very good . It easily has the best special effects in the entire Heisei series , with the lone exception of Rodan , who never looked completely convincing in the original series anyway . The Godzilla suit is top notch , and quite frankly , the 90 ' s version of MechaGodzilla ROCKS . The movie is also graced with maestro Akira Ifukube's best original score since 1968 ' s Destroy All Monsters . The plot revolves around Japanese scientists discovering the egg of a Baby Godzilla and absconding with it , much to Godzilla's displeasure . Their new defense against the perturbed lizard is of course MechaGodzilla , a fine update from the 1974 original . The battles between the two ( particularly the final battle where they turn Tokyo into a parking lot ) are well-staged and exciting . . . unlike the dismal , budget-constrained FX of the following sequel , G vs . Space Godzilla . Longtime Godzilla veteran Kenji Sahara returns in a supporting role , while Megumi Odaka reprises her role as psychic Miki Saegusa adequately . This is a flick to watch on a big screen TV with the volume cranked up LOUD . * * * 2004 Update : Having recently acquired the 2002 version of Godzilla X MechaGodzilla , I can say with confidence that this is a superior film . Though the CGI effects in the new film are great , overall the 1993 version is the better one .
    • 062 4  This film has long languished in the grey market of bootlegs for years and is now finally availabe in the American video retail market . Die hard Godzilla fans ( such as myself ) may groan about the pan'n'scan and the English dubbing , however Tri-Star / Columbia Home Video corrected one major mistake they made with their previous releases of G vs King Ghidora and G vs Mothra by releasing this film in SP mode as opposed to EP . The film features surround sound and a beautiful print . And , to be honest , I don't mind seeing a full screen version of this film . It's interesting to note that this film was intended to be the LAST film for The Big G as he was literally killed in the final battle , but a last minute decision to bring him back from the dead ( thanks to Rodan ) kept the series going for two more years . From the opening scene with the wreckage of the Mecha-King Ghidora to the final battle with Mecha Godzilla , this film is wonderful and will impress ANY and ALL non-believers .
    • 063 4  I just checked out the long awaited release of GODZILLA vs MECHA GODZILLA dvd . It is , after the last few DVD releases of Godzilla films , a dissapointment . No extras of note other than the trailers that we have on the other DVDs . The sound is a muffled surround 2.0 . . . not a 5.1 mix . The print is grainy and marked with dirt and specks , the picture is not mastered for true progressive scan . And the end credits are cut off . . At least it does have the original soundtrack , with optional subtitles . I have the DVD release from Japan . Vastly better pic and 5.1 sound . oh well . . . I got it for free , and my nephews will love it , so I will keep my impoprt and give this one to them . So the scorcard on Heisie films on dvd in the U.S . reads 2 missing . . G 84 and Biollante 2 Disasters . . G vs Ghidorah and G vs Mothra . . both mono and cropped 3 just fair releases . Mecha Godzilla , Space Godzilla and Destroyer . . . BTW . . . another reviewer has made some comments in error about the widescreen prints . All the Heisie films were done in 35mm with a MATTED widescreen . While this is NOT an anamorphic 2 : 35 widescreen ( more like 1 : 85 ) it IS cropped on the full screen prints of both Godzilla vs Mothra and Godzilla vs Ghidorah . You would lose aprox 15% of the image . And the DVD image of this film DOES have more grain and mors scratches than the region 2 DVD , and without the remastered 5.1 surround Ahh well . . . : (
    • 065 4  I was excited when i bought this video because it featured one of my favorites of the Godzilla foes , Mechagodzilla , who had not been featured in a Godzilla film since The Terror Of Mecha-Godzilla . This is a great Godzilla flick . The only reason i do not like it as much as the original Godzilla vs Mecha-Godzilla film is because Mecha-Godzilla is the good guy in this one . I prefer Godzilla all ways around , but a tad bit more when he was the ' good guy ' . G-Force has gotton rid of the now ' Stink ' Geruda - which was once the best at Anti-Godzilla weaponry . G-Force takes Mecha-Godzilla over , and gives him some major upgrades . Turbo Buster , Plasma Grenades , Rocket Fingers , Radioactive cord - what else does this guy need ? I dont want to give away the ending so i wont say if he needs anything . Well acted , The dubbing is OK ( helarious when the G-Force genral swears , though . . . ) , well Scripted and GREAT action sequences ! It is a guess who will win until the end of the film all the way through , unlike some G movies . All in All - A GREAT GODZILLA MOVIE ! ! ! Heisi ( sp ? ) series or not , this is a GREAT Godzilla flick .
    • 066 4  Godzilla comes back to Japan for some eggs . . . but not before encountering Rodan and later Mechagodzilla , and SuperMechagodzilla . This movie has one of the best rubber monster suit fights since Godzilla vs . Megalon . The special effects do not come close to American big screen release but nonetheless they are cool . Godzilla's and Rodan's fire breath ( yes , I said Rodan's ) was done very nicely . The new Godzillasaurus as it is called , is a much better looking baby Godzilla than the one from the 60 ' s . Although the story is far fetched ( well and then again , it is a Godzilla movie , aren't they all far fetched ? ) the action keeps this one moving pretty quickly . This one is on a par with the newer Godzilla vs . King Ghidora . If you like these movies , then this one is a must own !
    • 067 4  One of the best Godzilla films , Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla II certainly is one of the mothers of the Godzilla film series . Mechagodzilla is built from the wrecked remains of Mecha King-Ghidorah , while Rodan is discovered on an island and the killed off by Godzilla . Baby Godzilla is stolen from that island where Rodan lurked , and is taken back to Japan , where it eventually hatches . Godzilla goes through Japan searching for Baby Godzilla his son , and then Mechagodzilla is sent out to attack Godzilla after being fully built.Godzilla is hurt badly by his mechanical doppelganger , but puts Mechagodzilla temporarily out of order and continues his search , and eventually finds him inside a tower , but moves on . Rodan is somehow revived as the G-Force discover how to attach a Super X-like plane , Garuda , to Mechagodzilla's back . Mechagodzilla is sent out again as Rodan steals a case attached to a helicopter containing one of the protagonists and Baby Godzilla . Rodan lands in a city of Japan , as does Mechagodzilla . Mechagodzilla then attacks Rodan and kills him again , except this time Rodan changes into Fire Rodan and can spew flames at Mechagodzilla - - but to no avail . Godzilla comes ashore searching for Baby Godzilla still , and he and Mechagodzilla go at it , but with Garuda and Mechagodzilla doubleteaming Godzilla , Godzilla dies , but Fire Rodan revives him at the cost of his own life . Godzilla then destroys Mechagodzilla , but the crew escapes . Godzilla finds Baby Godzilla and together they swim out of Japan in a happy ending . The special effects and storyline in this episode rule , and Mechagodzilla looks awesome ! Much better than he looked in 1974 and 1975 ' s movies featuring him . Also , I like the return of Rodan ( especially Fire Rodan ! ) . It's also cool how Minya comes back as Baby Godzilla .
    • 068 4  I don't know what has happened . When this first came out on video in the late 90 ' s I loved it . It was my all time favorite Godzilla movie . But now , several years later , it makes me cringe . The movie starts out great , with the Mechagodzilla score blaring as we see the new-and-improved Hesei Mechagodzilla . In fact , my favorite aspect of the movie . After that point , we are introduced to dull characters speaking cheesy dialogue . I am fine with the dubbed track , as I expect the sub-par dubbing that Tri-Star made for these films . But the original Japanese track with subtitles is just as bad , which was suprising . As far as the characters go in the movie , most have gone through little development before the movie ends . At least the human characters do . Godzilla , Baby Godzilla and Rodan show a lot of emotion in this film , and the Godzilla suit was tweaked to give it a more feral look . The suits all look great , and they are handled well , though Rodan looks very fake while flying , since his wings barely flap at all , a frequent problem I've noticed in movies with flying kaiju . The updated Mchagodzilla looks feirce and powerful , but he does not instill the same amount of awe as the original . But who cares about all that . Some people buy this movie just for the monster fights . Sadly , they aren't very notworty . The firt fight , between Godzilla and Rodan , is the only one worth pointing out , as it is fast paced and brutal , but the fights between Godzilla and MEchagodzilla are simply lame . They consist of the two monsters firing their energy beams at each other until one is incapacitated . The whole final battle is just spent firing beams , and is very unoriginal and unexciting . So , in conclusion , both the human plots and monster fights are fairly boring , and the only upside is the one intense battle in the beggining of the film and the great score .
    • 069 4  Mechagodzilla would have been better if he was the villian and Godzilla was the hero . Rodan makes an appearance and so that is good . Rodan is too small in this one and it felt like it was the same as the previous movies . It is kind of boring and dull .
    • 070 4  I have been a Godzilla fan for almost all my life.Since I was 3 or 4 I loved Godzilla.I first saw this movie it was on sifi.My mom told my brother and I that Godzilla Vs . Mechagodzilla was on.We rushed up stairs grabed a tape and recorded it.But so far this is my favorite.SuperMechagodzilla was awsome. The one thing I don't get is why Mechagodzilla can't fight at close range. The first battle was my favorite battle. In the final battle was awsome. It looked like Godzilla was down for the count. But Baby ( the baby godzillasaur ) woke up Radon.Radon some how reconstatuted Godzilla's second brain. It was kind of hard to under stand. But over all a great movie .
    • 071 4  This movie is non-stop action from beginning to end . It was cool how Rodan created the pre-meltdown . I like Mecha Godzilla's theme ! And I also liked the beginning where it tells you how they created Mecha Godzilla . I especially like that computeristic form of Mecha King Ghidora . Baby Godzilla was so cute ! I can't believe that it was in Rodan's nest and not Godzilla's . When it says on the bottom Mother of all Godzilla Adventures , they're right ! So , buy this movie ! !
    • 072 4  the above is the REAL title for this fil ( Godzilla vs . Super-Mechagodzilla ) , if Tristar would only realise it ! Jeers Nothing . Rating out of 5 Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla is , I feel , the best film out of the new series . You can draw a lot of comparisons between this film and a film like Godzilla vs . Mothra 1964 , in that their is a synergy of plot , direction , and effects which makes the sum much greater than the parts . Everything about this film just fits well . As it is this film is the only new Godzilla film which come close to matching the experience found in Gamera : GOTU or Gamera vs . Legion . A stellar effort and a film most deserving of a cherished place in your video collection .
    • 074 4  For the first time since Tristar started releasing the Heisei series of Godzilla films , the dubbing is GOOD ! ! They even revert to calling Rodan by his official Japanese title ( Radon , a name that was switched during the 1956 release of Radon in the U.S . because Radon was at that time was the name of a popular brand of soap flakes ) . The music is great , Ifukube's best until Godzilla vs Destoroyah . The movie has great effects , in fact about the best you'll ever see in a Godzilla movie . We must thank Tristar for the way they have treated ( most ) of the Heisei films . They have given a few horrendous dub jobs , but all of the original Japanese scenes are left intact . This film is a must own for any Godzilla fan ( I have all of the films dubbed AND many of them in their original Japanese ) .
    • 075 4  This movie is great ! ! It is far better than the original 1974 classic . And this movie has some of the best special effects of any of these movies . With the appearance of Radan , this makes the movie that much more enjoyable . And in this version of Mechagodzilla , the mighty lizard is nearly destroyed my the mechanical menace , unlike in the first one where the battle wasn't all that impressive . Plus in this movie , we actually get to see Godzilla's offspring , but it still isn't made clear if Godzilla is a male or female , but it won't really matter to all you fans , don't worry this isn't another Minya from Son of Godzilla or Godzilla's Revenge The Mechagodzilla looks awesome and puts it's 1974 and 1975 counterparts to shame . This is my second favorite Heisei Series ( 1984 - 1995 ) film , only preceeded by Godzilla Vs . Destoroyah .
    • 076 4  It is refered to be the best Godzilla movie of them all ! In my opinion its not but its good enough for me ! The special fx are the best in the saga , actually in the whole series ! Mechagodzilla looks better than ever ! Same with rodan and the new baby godzilla.Mechagodzilla has way many more powers than the first , and godzilla gets a power added in this film.He gets his red atomic breath called the death ray ! And rodan transformes into a more powerful version of herself called , Firerodan. The movie builds up with more action and suspense that makes it the most exciting of the godzilla series !
    • 077 4  When Tristar first released the Heisei series , I eagerly got a copy of King Ghidorah , and it was so good I thought nothing could top it . Then I got Godzilla vs . Destroyer , and it again seemed like the best of the lot . This can't be topped , I told myself with total certainty . Then I saw Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla II . It puts them both to shame ! Rodan looks ten times cooler than the 60 ' s version , and Mechagodzilla is more badass than ever before . Godzilla is better done than ever before in the Heisei series , and Baby Godzilla actually looks like a baby Godzillasaurus and not some freakish escapee from a wax museum ! If you are even a remote G - Fan , you owe it to yourself to see this movie !
    • 078 4  This Godzilla movie I have to rate number one on Godzilla movies so far . This movie had pure non-stop destruction . What I liked about this movie is that their are kooler newly made monsters from the other old godzilla movies , also a new monster. But What I liked most about this movie is that the Japanese built a robot Godzilla to try and stop Godzilla from attacking Japan . You will see this movie is non-stop packed monster carnage .
    • 079 4  Take it from me ! This is the best godzilla movie . I've seen evey single one from Godzilla : King of the Monsters to the American Godzilla . The special effects in this movie were so good ! Mechagodzilla is my favoritte villian of godzilla and loved to see him in a sequel ! This is a must have for your godzilla collection !
    • 080 4  The fifth film of the Heisei-era series is , in a word , FANTASTIC ! A remarkable film that just keeps on getting better with each subsequent viewing , G vs . MG features top-notch spfx , good character developement , a simple yet multi-layered story , and a brilliant score from the Maestro himself , Akira Ifukabe . This movie is fun and engaging , yet also carries some serious themes ( mankind's arrogant quest to dominate all of nature , the exploitation of the innocent , and man's status as the one true monster ) . Both adults and youngsters can enjoy this film and come away with something to think about . The only draw-backs are that the tape is recorded in the EP mode , is in mono , and is dubbed in English . Though this sort of ill-treatment is a serious detriment to the film , it should not stop you from buying this tape . Of the 22 Japanese adventures of Godzilla , this is truly one of the best !
    • 081 4  Godzilla Vs Super-Mechagodzilla is probably the most action-packed movie ever made ! A non-stop special-effects show including one of the best music scores in movie history - definitely one of my all-time favourite movies ! ( I own the Japanese laserdisc ) .
    • 085 4  Being the first person to own an American dubbed version which I already have , I give it a definite five . The dubbing is great and action sequences are full of suspense . Even Non-Godzilla fans will enjoy this masterpiecce . Even with the horde of monsters and huge cast , the movie is amazing . The music by Akira Ifukube is wonderful and even though two songs are played a lot in the film , it's great . The sprawling special effects by Koichi Kawakita are superb , especially in the scene when Godzilla unleahses his very powerful red heat beam . The re-introduction of Rodan and BabyGodzilla has a nice touch . A must see ! I would rate this #1 next to Godzilla , King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs . Destoroyah . This is a Godzilla movie that you would be crazy to miss . And what's more , no Japanese scenes are cut out . Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla 2 is definitely a great Godzilla film . I own every Godzilla movie dubbed in english now .
    • 086 4  This movie has every thing from bringing back Rodan and MechaGodzilla tonew weapons and features . What I don't understand in this movie is why Rodan has to die . Rodan was my friend Sean Diamonts favorite monster at one time or another and I'm sure it upsets him when Rodan dies . But what I liked was the wrecking of the Refinary that was a cool seen . I also liked all of MG's new gizmos and Gadgets GO , GO Gadget Godzilla . were my first words when Mecha godzilla got that flying hoodicky conected to his back . I all around thought this movie was great .
    • 087 4  This Godzilla Movie Has It All Great Plot , Great Effects , And A Good Cast . Godzilla Has Some Great Scenes In The Movie Especially When He Rises From Kyoto Harbor And Destroys An Oil Refinery And The City . The Mecha-Godzilla Is Great With Great Weapons Such As A Plasma Laser Which Godzilla's Right Back At Him . Rodan Makes His First Screen Apperence Since Destroy All Monsters And Protects An Egg Which Has Hatched Into Baby-Godzilla Which I Thought Was Going To Be A Baby Rodan . Rodan Has Some Great Fighting Sequnces With Godzilla And Mecha-Godzilla Which Nearly Defeats Godzilla But Is Granted New Powers Especially New A Flame Which Would Progress In Space-Godzilla And Would Intact In Destroyah . If You Are A Huge Godzilla Fan Like Me I Would Reccomend It To You Also I Own A Subttitled Edition Of This Movie .
    • 088 4  Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla II is a somewhat dull , uninspired entry in the Big G's canon . The story is flimsy , the human characters silly and unmemorable , and Mechagodzilla is basically just a car driven by humans . It would have been so much more fun to have Mech-G as a Gigan-like cyborg that could think , move and battle on its own . As it is , Mecha-G looks great , but . . . * yawn * . Oh , and the monster battles go on for far too long , but I did enjoy G's island stomp with Rodan .
    • 089 4  Great movie . A key movie in the 90 ' s Godzilla seris . But why isn't it on DVD ?
    • 091 4  This is a great film ! It isn't too cheesey at all . For once , the characters and the story are as good if not better than the fight scenes ! The fight scenes , by the way , are very well done . Rodan is surprisingly evil looking and I like the way he finally gets his own radioactive beam in this movie . In the old movies he looked soo fake and weak . But now he can kick some booty ! I like the new baby Godzillasaurus LEAPS more than I did the old one ! It actually is a believable creature and doesn't sound like a sick donkey ! LOL It is a bit small , though . And the eyes are rather large but I suppose all babies have large eyes . Godzilla itself if a fearsome sight ! Almost as scary as the original . . . . almost . Anyway , to wrap it up , this movie has it all ! Romance ( sorta ) , action ( galore ! ) and Kaiju ( giant Japanese monsters ) . One more thing . . . . . I think Toho should stop making Godzilla movies and focus on Rodan and Mothra . Godzilla has hogged the spotlight long enough !
    • 092 4  Gojira tai Desutroia rules ! I love it
    • 093 4  Godzilla , world's greatest monster , faces his mechanicalcounterpart and is killed . Rodan also transforms into Fire Rodan and is killed , unleashing enough radiation to revive Godzilla , who then kills Mechagodzilla . Little Godzilla also appears .
    • 095 4  I ` ve seen this a few times and as a lifelong Goji fan , gotta say , this ain ` t his best . Scientists discover a perfectly preserved dino egg , which is protected by Rodan . Goji shows up and wastes the beast , but the brains make off with the egg . It hatches and reveals a baby ` zilla . Maternal instincts lure Goji to the babe and scientists use this fact to force Goji into combat with the new military Mechagodzilla . However , the resurrected Fire Rodan appears first and snatches baby G . Released as an anniversary film , its riddled with nods to earlier films for long time fans , some so subtle it ` s a couple of watches before you pick up on them . Also , this film follows the unoriginal and boring trend of giving the hero ( Goji ) a death scene , in this case anticlimatic and completely unpermanent . Veiwers aren ` t even certain he HAS died . But as far as the heisei series { ` 84 - ` 95 } go , it ` s far from the worst . I ` d sooner watch this than Vs Mothra or Vs Spacegodzilla . However , that said , it contains the heisei ` s biggest blasphemy : - Rodan is portrayed by a marionette rather than by suitmation . This serves to steal any sense of drama or threat from the beast who , for the most part , was one of the best in the 50 year history . In summary , the music is the best of the series , the story is not the worst , Baby ` zilla dumb , Rodan bad , Mecha-G the worst of the three , and the heisei look for the star is my Godzilla of choice , and she rarely looks better than this . Mindless fun .
    • 096 4  This movie isn't the most action packed ' zilla . That's Godzilla vs the destoyer The coolest is ' space ' zilla ' . The ' zilla with the best fight is Bollant or whatever . The one with the ' zilla plant . The most fun is ' monster zero'the dumbest by far is the first ' mecagodzilla ' even-though ' zilla's revengeis close . The ' zilla with the best firebreath action is ' zilla 2000 .
    • 097 4  acutally your statment about rodans name being radon was false . Any true godzilla fan would know this radon was what it was when they released the movie in the USA back a long time , but even though the american version said radon the japanese name was rodan toho then changed the american version to rodan and cleared the mistake .
    • 101 4  I like godzilla . This movie unfortunately is terrible . The acting is silly and childish , the dialogue is [ bad ] and the plot is as simple as ever . The special effects are still very old fashioned ( will they ever learn ? ) with wires , monster suits and little models . Godzilla 2000 is better in the effects department and acting , however the storyline is still fairly poor . Overall : MEDIOCRE .
    • 102 4  With all of the hype and good reviews I've seen for the supposed best of the Heisei series , G vs . MG really disapointed me . Yeah the SP mode is good , I guess . But the dubbing is still really bad . Not as bad as G vs . Ghidorah but pretty close , not that the actors did such a wonderful job to begin with . The special effects were some of the worse I've seen . I could see the wires holding every flying thing up ! And all the monsters looked more mechanical that usuall . And the plot ! I have no idea who was the antagonist and who was the protangonist . Who was Baby's parent ? Why was everyone all smiles at the end when they obviously lost the battle with godzilla , the city is destroyed in the battle , both robots are destroyed , godzilla is stronger than ever , and now he has a son to raise ? How could Baby be a plant eater yet have those teeth and claws and related to ( if not the dang son of ) a carnavor ? I hated the intro on Rodan ( or Radon ) , nothing special he just flies in and lands on a cliff . And the music , usually the best part of the films , was so muted and delayed I couldnt enjoy it . This new batch of characters are more annoying than the SpaceGodzilla people . I loved all the Heisei films from ' 85 to Mothra but after that they started looking like the old ' 60 ' s films . Cheap , cheesy and translated even worse . I thought Godzilla was a big deal to the Japanese . So why dont they do a better job . That movie came out after Jurassic Park yet they dont have any better special effects or story than Godzilla's Revenge . Dont they pay someone to edit these films . In the first 10 minutes of the film I found many ways of improving the movie . If the Godzilla films are the pride and joy of Japanese film making , I would hate to watch any of there lesser movies we dont see . Dont waste your money on this dubbed version . Get your self the subtitled version and maybe you'll understand the story and not be let down by the dialog .
