Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah / Godzilla & Mothra: The Battle for Earth

  • 020 4  ghidorah gets a name change and loses a head and becomes mecha and good at the end . mothra battle batra to save the earth . and GODZILLA IS EVIL . this is after biollante and they should elease 1985 and biollante as a double feature . that would be cool or at least a dvd release . yeah . buy it they are both good movies and the 90 ' s serise was always my favorite . but i love em all . cause GODZILLA IS THE KING OF THE MONSTERS and if hes the king than MOTHRA IS THE QUEEN and they should give birth to GODTHRA a lizard moth and godzilla should fight his offspring cause GODTHRA is gonna destroy the earth and already killed mothra . sorry not exactly a reveiw but yea . good double feature needs special features and its all Kaiju fun .
    • 039 4  I just am not impressed with the 90 ' s Godzilla movies . They look good of course , but with none of the charm or spirit of the 60 ' s films . On this disc , GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH drastically changes the origin of the characters , and Godzilla just has no personality . The second film on the disc is a very inferior remake of GODZILLA VS THE THING ( 1964 ) . There are a few very impressive scenes in these movies , but overall , I would suggest picking up GODZILLA VS MONSTER ZERO , and GODZILLA VS THE THING ( GODZILLA VS MOTHRA ) instead .

  • 041 4  It was a great experience shopping at Amazon.com , the transaction was very fast and easy , and receiving the product was great , excellent quality , they delivered very fast and everything over all was great , I am definitly going to shop more often at Amazon.com , this is the second time I do it and its been great , I encourage people to shop here as it is very fast , easy and safe . Have a great day .
    • 016 4  This is a good DVD.I just love how it has two movies on it ! You should buy it !

  • I remember loving this film , and thinking it was one of the best Godzilla movies I'd ever seen . So , I saw the VHS for ten bucks at Suncoast , and decided to pick it up and see if I still liked it as much . I didn't . Not by a long shot . Oh , where to begin . . . . . the battles : lackluster all the way . All Godzilla and King Ghidora do is stand in the same spot and shoot their energy beam fire breaths at eachother . This is a flaw that existed in all the Heisei series films following this one ( i.e . the lack of actual physical fighting ) . Furthermore , the human story is pretty lame , too . I mainly mean the time travel part , which just doesn't make any sense . Okay , Godzilla was supposed to be erased from history , right ? Well , everybody . . . . not just the people who went back in time , but EVERYBODY . . . . . talks about the Big G like he still existed the whole forty years that passed . It seems like no thought was put into it at all . Yeah , I know , this is a Kaiju-eiga , and the only real point ( except for a select few ) is seeing the giant monsters duke it out . Well , there are hardly any to be seen in this movie , and like I said , what is there is isn't very good at all . Heck , even the music by master Akira Ifukube was disappointing ! And that says a lot , right there . In addition , I didn't like how they went back and saw Godzilla's origins . It was much , much better left unseen , as a mystery . Aside from the actual film , I just have to comment on the quality of the VHS . It was absolutely horrendous . I have VHS that're at least ten years old , and are of much better than this tape . Picture is blurry beyond belief , as is the sound . It resembles a taped-off-TV version . Maybe if I see it in a much better condition ( like a remastered DVD edition or something ) , and in the original Japanese audio ( ' cause the dubbing sucks , by the way ) , I'd like it more . But not for now . GODZILLA & MOTHRA : THE BATTLE FOR EARTH : This is the Heisei series film I grew up with . The plot is great , creating a new backstory for Mothra , and even adding in another great monster to boot : Battra , a.k.a . the Black Mothra . The special effects are also great , as is the Ifukube music . The presence of Mothra and the Cosmos allows Ifukube to explore certain territories yet uncharted in Godzilla films . His haunting rendition of the Mothra song , as well as the music playing when Mothra both forms and breaks out of her cocoon , are perfect examples . And of course , I have to mention the battle scenes : awesome . Godzilla's first clash with the Mothra and Battra larvae , is both exciting and humorous . In short , this is a great Godzilla flick , and one of my personal favorites . If I have one complaint to make , it's about the dubbing ( of course ) . Now , this is obviously a major viewing problem for all American releases of Godzilla movies , but this one is made all the worse by two things : 1 ) The dubbing for the Cosmos , which does not work at all , and 2 ) The dubbing of the little girl . I don't know why , but whenever they try to dub children in these movies it always comes out really weird , sounding as if it's just some adult straining his / her voice really hard . But that aside , GODZILLA & MOTHRA is definitely one to see . Obviously , I'm writing reviews for the VHS editions , and have not tried out this DVD . But I hear that it's not really a big improvement over the VHS . This is my great dream : that with the 50th Anniversary theatrical release of the original GODZILLA , uncut , undubbed & restored / remastered , they will continue to re-release all the Godzilla movies on DVD with the same clean-up jobs . Now , THAT would be heaven . . . . . . . . .
    • 001 4  I'm not a hard-core Godzilla fan , but i find them entertaining , so i picked up this DVD . Upon watching it , the one thing that really annoyed me was the lack of the widescreen option . I always like to have the original scope of the film . That is a main reason why i didn't give it 5 stars . The japanese soundtrack isn't available as an option . I prefer the english dubbing anyway , for comic effect at least . For those people who prefer the english subtitles that option should have been presented as well as the widescreen option . But I do really like the fact that you get two movies on this DVD , while costing the same as one normally does . And anyway these are two of my favorite Godzilla movies and they look good on this DVD . These two movies are both really cool : Mothra : Battle for Earth is really my favorite , the tiny twin women are fantastic ! King Ghidora is very entertaining but not nearly as cool as Mothra . It's worth the money if you're a casual Godzilla fan like me , and don't mind the missing japanese soundtrack and widescreen options . . .
    • 002 4  Ever since I saw the original 50 ' s Godzilla , I had always wondered how it had evolved in the 90 ' s . Now I know . It's plain awesome ! A bigger Godzilla with even bigger special effects . I love it !
    • 003 4  Godzilla vs King Ghidorah : While best appreciated by true Godzilla fans , this movie is actually a pretty good science fiction story in its own right . A tricked out space craft with time travel ability presents some intriguing plot possibility that keeps the audience wondering . One interesting insights is how the story portrays what Japan will become in the future . Add to that a back story that presents the origins of both Godzilla and Ghidorah and you end up with one of the best Godzilla movies ever made . Godzilla and Mothra : This is basically an updated movie of the early flicks involving Mothra . Worth watching if you're a big Godzilla or Mothra fan .
    • 004 4  Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah - The King Is Back ! This is the sequel to Godzilla vs . Biollante . This introduces Ghidora into the new series . For people who are not really big Godzilla fans , the Godzilla movies are broken up into 3 parts so far . 1954 - 1978 is the Showa series , 1984 - 1995 is the Heisei series and 1999 - Present is the Shinsei or Millennium series . Each has different stories . Originally in the Showa series , Ghidora came to Earth by a meteorite , but this movie is in the newer Heisei ( 1984 - 1995 ) series . According to this series , Ghidora was mutated from Durats way back in the 1940 ' s . If you follow the Heisei movies in order , this movie is interesting because the added on to what was already said . They mention about his fight with Biollante in this movie , and Biollante was the movie before this . If you watch this without order , this may not be as interesting . Watch the movies in order because it is meant as a series all the way up to Godzilla vs . Destroyah and is more fun to watch . Godzilla & Mothra : The Battle for Earth - Moth with Rodan's Voice The Battle for Earth has to be one of the best Godzilla movies I have seen . From the story to the special fx , this movie is all around really great ! The only thing wrong is that a new monster named Battra the black mothra sounds like Rodan . Besides that , this movie is solid gold
    • 005 4  VIDEO QUALITY : The release contains 2 films on one disc - on Side A 1991 ' s Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah , and on Side B 1992 ' s Godzilla vs . Mothra ( stupidly re-titled Godzilla and Mothra : The Battle for Earth ) . Side A looks very good , with a very sharp image , nice vivid colours and not much print damage , and the same goes for Side B . In some of the darker scenes there can be a bit of grain , but it's generally very high quality , with no noticeable artifacting , rainbows or other transfer issues Of course you're probably thinking this is too good to be true - two films on one disc is superb condition , and of course you're right ; the films were modified from widescreen to pan and scan , with is a real blow to the otherwise lovely print . AUDIO QUALITY : Both sides only have one option , and in both cases they are Toho's international English dubs presented in Dolby Surround 2.0 . The actual quality is good , with no distortion or fuzzing ( granted they're reasonably new tracks in any case ) , however they both sound quite weak , especially for those with home sound systems . EXTRA FEATURES : Side A and Side B both contain the same - theatrical trailers for the two feature films . They are presented in widescreen and are subtitled in English ; it's pretty depressing when a trailer is in better condition than the film itself . OVERALL : Pretty much a barebones release overall . Sony claim to have modified the films ratios especially for the DVD release . Why they would purposely change existing widescreen prints into full screen is beyond me . It's truly a shame , because the actual image quality is better than Toho's very own domestic Region - 2 releases of these films . The standard 2.0 audio only featuring Toho's poorly acted international dub doesn't help much either , and the only features on the disc are two ( good condition ) trailers . It's a good release if you simply want them on DVD , but if you want more you should probably look elsewhere .
    • 006 4  After Godzilla 1984 ( aka The Return of Godzilla ) and Godzilla Vs Biollante , Toho resurrected two of its mightiest Godzilla series co-stars . Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah was the first out at bat and quite ' controversial ' for its supposed Anti-American stance ( i.e . the bad boys from the future are predominantly western in appearance ) . The story is a time travel paradox laden hoot ( Godzilla's existence is erased , yet everybody still knows about him ? ) and the final smackdown between the all new MECHA-King Ghidorah is a series classic . It's silly fun for fans . Godzilla Versus Queen Mothra : Battle for the Earth was the biggest smash for the new series , and it is easy to see why . The fourth updated Godzilla movie is a colorful affair filled with something for every fantasy movie buff . The opening nod to the classic beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark , not to mention the bridge gag clearly meant as a homage to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom's bridge scene , will either have you grinning or sneering . Godzilla's stomping out of the molten lava pouring from an erupting Mt . Fuji is a classic Godzilla moment . Fans of The Big G need no urging to put this in their collections . Too bad they aren't widescreen transfers , though . Recommended .
    • 007 4  These newer Godzilla movies from TOHO are just what the doctor ordered for parents in these jaded times . They are fun , imaginative , and believe it or not , even the effects are pretty good in these newer ones . They have a very Spielberg-like slickness , the Japanese film industry has been catching up fast . My kids love these videos , they have excitement , monsters , action , all without the potty humor and racy jokes of the US kids films . Highly recommended !
    • 008 4  What can I say ? Having not seen the new Godzilla and just remembering the silly rubber suited wrestlers of the 60 ' s , these Japanese imports from the 90 ' s are very welcome . I wished the DVD had 5.1 surround sound and more features but the included theatrical trailers are not dubbed and are a hoot . I love how at the end of the trailers , they try to hawk Godzilla toys . Now I understand how Pokemon is so damn well marketed . A welcome addition to any Godzilla-philes's collection . Maybe in the future other Godzilla DVDs will be available with subtitles and actual Japanese dubbing that can be toggled on or off . ( for us purists )
    • 009 4  These movies are packed with action and adventure and have never ending turns and twists ! Godzilla vs . Mothra , Battle For Earth is about three explorers travel to an island , near with a meator landed. They then discover a giant egg and two girls smaller then a flower ! But the egg hatches and forms the worm Mothra , while the metor hatches into the worm Batra ! But when then two worms turn into giant flying super insects , there is a fight for surival . . . P > Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah is about three time travelers from the 23rd century who come to warn that Godzilla will destroy Japan . The timetravelers take a writer and a team of scientists to the time of the dinosaur , Godzilla before it was exposed to nuecelar energy. But when the beast , King Ghidorah takes Godzilla ` s place , the scientist ` s only choice is to reive Godzilla !
    • 010 4  Actually , the best G flicks started at Godzilla 1985 . Every one after that was great and entertaining to watch , even in late , late teens ! I grew up with godzilla and was excited to see that the ' final ' batch of movies made it here . Godzilla vs . King Ghidora was the worst of these 90 ' s flicks though . The lame , confusing plot ( as if all G movies aren't like that , this one just takes the cake ) undoes every previous Godzilla movie before it . For some reason , they decided to give Godzilla a brand new origin , instead of the original origin as represented in Godzilla Raids Again , the first sequel waaaay back when . In this movie , which is VERY politically motivated , a band of american soldiers land on an island inhabited by JApanese soldiers during WWII . A ' Godzillasaurus ' lives on this island , and is promptly dispatched by those ' filthy americans ' , with a terribly ear-piercing punchline by one of the american naval officers : ' Take that you dinosaur ! ' . Then it gets up again , and kills all the of the soldiers . Very anti-American , this movie was made during a trade dispute in the early 90 ' s . Aside from the ' Kill Whitey ' sub-plot , Godzilla is ' re-created ' when we americans launch a nuclear bomb onto that island ( but i thought it was dropped on Hiroshima . . . . . but ok ) . And thus , Godzilla is born . So , every movie is undone , because the Godzilla monster is then ' transported ' into the future . Which would mean Godzilla never attacked Japan ever . And when he shows up , everyone immediately knows ' GODZILLA ! ' . Major plot hole . But hey , it's Godzilla , what the hell do you expect ? Still a great flick and the introduction of Mecha-Ghidora . Godzilla really kicks Ghidorah's arse in this film , something he was never able to do by himself before . The movies that followed became quite interesting and entertaining . The 90 ' s godzilla surely was the best . After the franchise was handed over to America and we butchered it , it was then brought back to Toho , and here we have Godzilla 2000 , which i have yet to see . Can't wait !
    • 011 4  The movies are both a solid B but when you put them together on one DVD is a great buy . The scenes with the android guy are hilariously bad .
    • 013 4  This movie had better acting and special effects than the old ones and was really cool both of the moveis are good to buy .
    • 014 4  Finally ! Somebody in America releases these two early ' 90 ' s films and on DVD at that ! The plots of both the films are absurd , but so what ? If you like G then you've got to see ' em both . I think neither of these films are as good as the as-yet-unleased-in-America G vs . Mechagodzilla ( 1993 ) but it's great to have them together with original Japanese trailers . One complaint : The dubbing is so bad that it often provides unintentional hilarity . It would be super if in the future , G DVD's provided access to subtitles . It would have made these films far more dramatically striking .
    • 017 4  I am happy these movies have made their way to the US and on DVD . They are definately worth having for any Godzilla fan ! The only thing I wish they had put these in widescreen . Now if only G vs Biollante and Mechagodzilla would be put out on DVD .
    • 018 4  One of my fav . Godzilla movies is Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah because I like those two monsters . It did have a confusing plot at one point like King Ghidorah destroys Japan , so the people need Godzilla to kill Ghidorah. So he saves Japan and kills Ghidorah , but then Godzilla attacks japan too , now they need King Ghidorah to save them , but he's dead . But wait he comes back as Robo Ghidorah and fights Godzilla but loses to Godzilla ( actully it's a draw ) . But I still like this film Now Godzilla vs . Mothra was the WORST G film ever . I can't belive everyone thinks this the best G film , it makes no sense . It's plot was written in a bad way . What I hate about is Godzilla gets teamed up on by to moths that hate each other . Another part the I hate is when Mothra and Battra are fighting , Mothra doesn't use her laser beams when Battra was KICKING her ASS , but when Godzilla comes , he doesn't give a damn about Mothra , so he JUST fights Battra until Mothra comes up and uses her laser beams out of nowhere on Godzilla . God I really hate this film . I gave it this a 3 star because Ilike I said , I best G movie with the WORST G movie on one DVD .
    • 019 4  Hold onto your hats ! In this double feature DVD , Godzilla is the bad guy in both movies . Being a huge Godzilla fan since birth , I've found Godzilla DVDs much more fun than videos . Since this is probably the only double DVD out there ( time could change this ) where Godzilla is the enemy both times , it only makes this one that much more entertaining . Let's be honest ; everyone who is a true Godzilla fan knows the big guy is at his best when he's crushing Tokyo for no reason other than he can . So , G fans , what are you waiting for ? Let the Stomp-a-thon begin !
    • 021 4  First let me state that I've been spoiled by Media Blasters . Their Godzilla releases have been top notch , with the original Japanese versions and dialogue available on each disk produced . The original movie poster cover art is also a nice touch , and each disks audio and wide format presentation give the older films a a breath of new life . These double feature disks just don't compare . The films are only offered with the English dubbing , and are presented in Pan & Scan format , and there are no extras included on the disks . That said , I was really happy to get these two films added to my collection . Both are great examples of the Heisei series and the re-boot of the Godzilla franchise . 1 . Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah - In this film we get a new origin story for both Godzilla and King Ghidorah . During World War II a group of Japanese soldiers on Lagos Island are protected from the American Navy by a Godzillasaurus , a large T-Rex like dinosaur . Though badly wounded the Godzillasaurus survives only to be exposed to vast amounts of radiation when the United States begins testing nuclear weapons on nearby Bikini Island , turning the dinosaur into Godzilla . We also get the origins of King Ghidorah , which started out as three seperate little creatures only to be exposed to the same radiation which transformed Godzilla . Throw in some time traveling Americans and a Cyborg or two , some double crosses and you have a pretty entertaining Godzilla flick . I will say it was odd seeing the American forces portrayed as the bad guys in some scenes . . . and the balding cyborg was a bit too goofy for my tastes , but then again this is a Godzilla flick and a certain amount of cheese is to be expected . Gotta give an extra star for awesome appearance of Mecha-King Ghidorah ! ! 3 Stars overall . 2 . Godzilla & Mothra : Battle for the Earth - This one of my favorite of the Heisei Godzilla films . When an massive meteor lands in the Pacific ocean it causes tyhoons , landslides , earthquakes and even wakes up Godzilla . When part of a mountain on Infant Island falls away , a giant egg is exposed . An Indiana Jones type artifact hunter is contracted by a wealthy businessman to get the egg and return it to Japan . When the small party arrives on the island they are met by two small women who are the Earth's cosmos and help keep the natural order of things . 12000 years ago the Earth created Mothra for protection , and when man began throwing things out of whack , the Earth created Battra to destory man , the uncovered egg is Mothra , and the Cosmos fear that Battra has also been released by the runaway metero , meaning that mankinds only hope lies with Mothra . This is a fun movie , with tons of monster fights , great special effects , and a fantastic score . Battra is a great addition to Toho's stable of monsters and is very impressive looking . Mothra has never looked better , and Godzilla retains his feral reptillian look made popular during the Heisei series . 5 Stars for this entry .
    • 022 4  Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah and its follow-up Godzilla vs . Mothra are easily two of the finest films in the series . Koichi Kawakita won a Japanese Academy Award in 1991 for his visual effects for Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah , and the following year , Godzilla vs . Mothra became one of the biggest financial hits in Toho's history , selling over four million tickets in Japan , a number that hadn't been reached since the early 60s . Unfortunately , neither film got a stateside release until Sony defecated out this horrendous DVD in 1998 to coincide with Roland Emmerich's even bigger defecation that same year . Not only are both films sandwiched on one disc , but they're not even in widescreen , and neither of them come with the original Japanese audio with English subtitles . Instead , the viewer has to endure dubbing that is so jaw-droppingly awful that it's amazing Toho would ever allow their films to get this sort of treatment . It's inconceivable how bottom-of-the-barrel Godzilla films like Godzilla's Revenge and even Godzilla vs . Gigan have decent DVDs while these more elaborate films are stuck with cheap double feature DVDs . Luckily , there are rumors of new DVDs of these films being made , so maybe it's best that fans of the series wait for the new issues , as they will most likely be in anamorphic widescreen with the original Japanese audio . Until then I'd recommend hunting down subtitled DVDs and even VHS's from online distributors instead of settling for this Sony DVD .
    • 023 4  Another double feature released by Tri-Star . Once more , the Japanese track isn't included , credits as well . A shame for two very good G-films . The menu is the DVD cover , surprise , surprise . Wait a second , all is not lost ! ! The DVD comes with the original Japanese trailer for both films ! This saves the DVD from being a one-star , but still , Tri-star come on , you could of done better ! !
    • 024 4  Double Godzilla feature ! Godzilla's Biggest foes ! Wish the picture were widescreen . But the dvd sharpness is plenty good . For a two pack , a commendable effort .
    • 025 4  This review is from : Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah / Godzilla & Mothra : The Battle for Earth ( DVD ) Godzilla vs King Ghidorah is to me the best of the 1990s Godzilla movies . A bit confusing with the time traveling and trying to rewrite Godzilla . The Effects are great . Godzilla is bigger than ever . Ghidorah is nothing like the 1960s in terms of voice or flying style ( you cant bring back the 1960s ) The score is excellent an update from the 1960s . Excellent Godzilla movie . Mecha Ghidorah is cool . There are a lot of twists and turns and which monster is the bad guy in this . Aside from the time traveling stuff which was a little hard to follow , this was a great film . The sequel is Godzilla vs Queen Mothra battle for the Earth which has the return of Mothra and the debut of Battra . Great SPFX , Mothra has new powers . Both start as larva and become moth monsters . Battra is like a dark Mothra . I found this to be enjoyable . The DVDs are full frame , and English dubbed , but who cares its Godzilla : ) at least there is an official release of these 2 movies .

    • 027 4  I was young when I first saw Godzilla and Mothra : The Battle for Earth , and to this day I still love it . This movie is basically a remake of the 1964 Godzilla vs Mothra , with a dramatically different plot . In this version , a divorced couple and a representitive from the sinister Marotomo company go to Infant Island to investigate a gigantic egg , which hatches into Mothra . In this film , you've got Mothra , who wants to save the earth and everyone in it . Then there's the new monster Battra , Mothra's evil twin , who wants to kill Mothra and rein destruction on the world . And then there's Godzilla who doesn't like anyone and is out to get both moths for no apparent reason . The result ? Well , you'll have to watch to find out the details , but I will say that the sparks fly like their's no tomorrow . The movie albiet is somewhat slow in the middle , and the effects are a bit cheesy , and some may think the parts where Mothra's fairies sing is just silly , but the plot is fun , the voice dubbing is good for the most part ( they kinda mess up one or two people ) and it has a good , pro-enviromental message ( though the characters are a little fanatical about it . . . ) . The point is if you like Godzilla or Mothra you will like if not love this movie . If you don't like it , the kids certainly will .
    • 028 4  I've never seen Godzilla vs . Mothra , so thats why i'm i'm buying this DVD.But I have seen Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah.Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah is the very first film i've seen and its a pretty good movie.i haven't quite seen the whole thing , but i think the best part of the movie is when Mecha King Ghidorah appeared ; and he lands in front of Godzilla and theres a lot of smoke in the background behind King Ghidorah which is a remarkable scene in the movie.I'm pretty sure people may think so to .
    • 029 4  I buy these Godzilla DVD's for my eldest kiddo and we love it when we find a double feature dvd . As you know , you get two movies for the price of one ! But also , the dvd has an easy to navigate menu , option to hear the original dialog or a english dubbed version . This dvd was worth the price !
    • 030 4  First off , Godzilla vs King Ghidorah was okay . It had a fantastic plot , two really cool Godzilla foes , and the origin of the heisei Godzilla . But , overall , it turned out to be a little boring . The very end was cool though . Mecha-King Ghidorah was awesome . Second , Gozilla and Mothra : The Battle For Earth was extremely boring . Again , it had a great plot , two cool Godzilla foes , and Battra . But this movie was a little more than okay . Mothra is one of my favorite Godzilla foes , but it ended kind of abrubtly to me . Overall : 3 / 5 .
    • 031 4  This review is from : Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah / Godzilla & Mothra : The Battle for Earth ( DVD ) This are two of the best Godzilla movies ive seen . Much better than the Godzilla of old . Having grown up on 1950 ' s and 60 ' s sci-fi i have to say i wasnt impressed with Godzilla until this fairly recent make over . Excellant special effects and a great story lines . Battle for Earth was very well done but its King Ghidora that really got me going . The story line was excellent with time travel , a flying saucer and of course the King . If you havnt seen Godzilla for awhile , take a look at this great double feature .

    • 033 4  This double sided DVD collects two 1990s Godzilla films , Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah and Godzilla and Mothra : The Battle for Earth . Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah has been praised as one of the best of the unofficial ' Heisi ' era of Godzilla movies . Watching it again , it's actually pretty bad . The space alien plot is goofy at best , the dialogue is ridiculous , and the characters are uninteresting . Still , there's plenty of rubber suited monster action in the last third to keep fans interested . ( Some fans , by the way , are bothered by the scene where a Godzilla prototype attacks American troupes in the second world war ) . Godzilla and Mothra : The Battle for Earth is also a pretty stupid movie ( with unineteresting characters , unrealistic sets , and goofy dialogue ) , but I found it to be the more fun of the two . There are some pretty good monster fights between Mothra , Godzilla , and ' Battra ' near the end , and the Mothra lullaby song sung by the two ' cosmos ' ( from the original 1960s Godzilla vs . Mothra ) has still not come out of my head . The DVD is unfortunately , not in widescreen ( unlike the companian double feature , Godzilla vs . Spacegodzilla / Godzilla vs . Destroyah ) . The 1.33 : 1 image looks similar to a video tape ( especially in the opening shots of King Ghidorah ) , but it's acceptable enough . The only audio is the english dub ( apparently at the request of Toho studios ) , but it really doesn't matter in movies like these . Happily ( and unlike most Japanese monster DVDs ) , the original Japanese theatrical trailers are included . I liked watching them , if only for the shameless toy ads that are tacked on the end . Some servicable liner notes round out the package .
    • 035 4  This is the 18th film in the Godzilla film series . Is Ghidorah about to revisit Tokyo ? A strange UFO has been seen flying across the sky . Through satellite pictures they can confirm it is a UFO . They also can find Godzilla who has been kept alive by anti-nuclear bacteria . The UFO lands and five selected people are allowed to board the UFO . There are robots aboard that look like humans . They must defeat Godzilla . They time-warp to February 6 , 1944 . They see Godzilla ( before first film in 1954 ) and he is wounded . While teleporting Godzilla to 1992 , little ghidorahs were released on Mt . Fugi . When they came back to 1992 , Godzilla is gone ( for now ) , but the three-headed monster , Ghidorah returns to Japan . The little ghidorahs had merged together by the radiation of the UFO leaving . Now they need Godzilla to save japan . The next film in the series : Godzilla and Mothra : Battle For Earth ( 1992 ) . Godzilla and Mothra : Battle For Earth ( 1992 ) Good start for a film . Now that Godzilla has survived the attack of King Ghidorah and is back underwater to rest , a meteorite hits the ocean and re-energizes Godzilla . Meanwhile , a Japanese man has found a gold idol in the temple , then the curse is upon him . The temple starts to collapse with him in it . He does escape without the idol . To aviod a jail sentence he is offered to lead an excursion to a cave . There they find drawings on the wall of young Mothra . The weather is changing because of the meteorite . As they exit the other side of the cave , they meet the Cosmos fairies and see the egg of Mothra . Mothra returns who we have not seen since 1964 . Mothra is bad as a larve , but once it becomes a moth , it is an insect of peace . The next film in the series : Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla ( II ) [ 1993 ] . Update : Godzilla may return in 2012 . A deal has been made with TOHO Inc . Warner Bros . will be co-producing and co-financing .
    • 036 4  Sony / TriStar needs to revist the two Godzilla films in this package and re-do them correctly . They are both worthwhile films in the long-running giant monster series , and they deserve better treatment than the shabby presentation they receive here . The company has just made available three of the recent Godzilla films in widescreen editions with 5.1 sound and a choice of English dub or Japanese with subtitles : Godzilla vs . Megaguirus , Godzilla , Mothra , and King Ghidorah : Giant Monsters All-Out Attack , and Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla . Unfortunately , everything right about those discs is wrong about this one . The films are pan-and-scan ( ugh ! ) , dubbed only ( ick ! ) , and in mono ( ack ! ) . And each one of these is done badly ! The transfers are ugly , the dubbing is the usual poor job that Toho commissions on their own from Hong Kong ( basically , whatever English-speakers they could nab , regardless of acting ability ) , and the mono wrecks the awesome Akria Ifukube score . On top of all this , the DVD producers also hack off the end credits , cutting off the brilliant end-title music before it gets going ! Both films are pretty much wrecked by their DVD presentations , and considering Sony's sudden new approach to Godzilla DVDs , I would bet they are planning to eventually release Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah and Godzilla and Mothra : Battle for Earth in single disc packages with Japanese language options , widescreen transfers , and stereo soundtracks . I recommend skipping this lesser package and waiting for Sony to get out better editions . Both films , when seen properly , are awesome examples of the 1990s Heisei Godzilla series ( the name for the second series of G-films ) . Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah is one of the best , involving the Big-G in a scheme by evil time-travelers to destroy Japan . It's an interesting approach to a Godzilla film , mixing in elements of The Terminator and Jurassic Park ( the scenes in WWII are a unique departure from the typical giant monster formula , with an average sized dinosaur monster instead ) . The titanic battle between Godzilla and the three-headed golden dragon ( with robotic implements ) King Ghidorah in downtown Japan for the finale is among the four or five best monster battles in history . The whole film is a heck of a ride . Godzilla and Mothra : Battle for Earth is a gentler film meant to appeal to a wider audience ( which it did ; it was a huge hit in Japan ) . Godzilla ravages the country once again , while the appointed Guardians of Life and Earth , Mothra and his dark twin Battra , battle it out between each other . The story is simple and metaphysical , and Godzilla is really the supporting character here , but the film is still a lot of fun . The final fight is a tussle between Godzilla and the two flying foes in an amusement park in Yokohama , and it's another show-stopper . Good as the films are , I can't recommend this DVD set . Chances are , you'll soon have the opportunity to nab both in better packages .
    • 037 4  I really can't decide whether to give this four or five stars . But since I gave G vs . Gigan 4 stars , I guess this should be given five , just barely . vs . King Ghidorah Could be dissappointing to some King Ghidorah fans . The verion of King Ghidorah seen here is really weak compared to the Showa series . The second movie was the first time I've seen one that had a focus on Mothra . It's interesting considering its partly based around a prop , but I guess its better than the movies centered around Mothra , where the movie is centered around a prop . But since I haven't seen any Mothra movies or other movies where Mothra plays a large part I can't really compare it to anything .
    • 038 4  GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORA : I remember loving this film , and thinking it was one of the best Godzilla movies I'd ever seen . Now , THAT would be heaven . . . . . . . . .
    • 040 4  This is more a comment than a review .1 . Many , many fans would like to see Godzilla in its original form - in Japanese w / subtitles without Raymond Burr . Original title : Gojira .2 . Many fans would like to see other Godzilla monster movies in the original Japanese w / subtitles .3 . For the price of a DVD , the customer should be given the option of Dubbing or Subtitling .
    • 042 4  I liked Godzilla for a few years , and these are two my favorite Godzilla movies.P.S . I seen all of the Godzilla movies .

    • 046 4  When I first got this movie , I was hoping there would be more action in it . I was wrong . Godzilla v.s . King Ghidorah is good , but only when Godzilla shows up and kills King Ghidorah . There's too much talk about how to deal with the lizard , which is totally pointless . Just kill the lizard ! Godzilla v.s . Mothra is better , but it's slow to get to the action , and when you see this movie you think that Battra is the bad guy not Godzilla . And there's propiganda in this movie about the environment . The idea about a meteor coming to destroy earth is just plain dumb . All in all this is a decent DVD .
    • 047 4  The Dvd offer crisp images that reflect a top notch transfer . Enough of the good , let's talk about the content . Ever since I heard that Toho was continuing to make Godzilla movies , I wondered what they did to move Godzilla into the 90 ' s . Sadly with these offerings they didn't . . . they yanked him to the 50 ' s . And with this comes two pointless remakes in the Heisei series Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah , and Godzilla vs . Mothra . Whereas the 64 version of G vs . M was fast paced and had decent effects for its time , this new version moves in a plodding style , with FX that have dated badly . Put simply , nothing good was brought up that they hadn't already done in 64 . Godzilla vs . King Ghidorah serves as a pinnacle of what's wrong with the Heisei series . A screenplay inspired from a writing contest giving the movie logistic holes that could blot out the sun . The angle of time travel is pointless since the movie make every effort to ensure that changes in the past have virtually no consequence on present or future events , which only serves to convolute the plot further . Another angle is that they increase the size of Godzilla yet he looks no bigger on camera than before , but results in smaller less detailed miniatures which makes the FX look worse that thier 60 ' s counterparts , especially the appearance of Bandai-Ghidora at the end . But the biggest problem was that this is the start of Godzilla getting less physical with his duels and relying on his atomic beam , which will reduce the series to light show antics .
    • 048 4  I dont know why people like widescreen so good . OH BOY ! ! ! ! ! I can see a glove on the table that I could not see before on a full screen version . Big deal , I myself find the black bars very annoying . Widescreen is only good for snoody people with giant TVs that has better support of it . I hate it when they only make widescreen DVDs for some movies . So I am glad this version of godzilla does not have widescreen . But for the people with bigger TVs let them have the widescreen version !
