Godzilla: Save the Earth

  • 013 4  I have been playing this game for a week now , and I am still smiling ! The graphics and sounds are incredible . The cast of characters is a kaiju dream team . My son and I have unlocked so many , but there are still more waiting to be discovered . You can fight head-to-head or alone . Toyko , Monster Island , and in other settings are well rendered and the powers that each character may use are true to their film counterparts . This is one of the greatest Playstation 2 games that I have ever played ! My son is 10 and , as I play , I feel as if I am 10 again . This is a must have for any kaiju fan , or anyone who wants to have a great time .
    • 004 4  Great graphics . My husband and kids play it for hours . It is good for school age and up . No gore . Just fun .
    • 059 4  This Godzilla game is great , I bought this game for my 10 year old son . My son has been playing this game since x-mas and has not stopped .

  • Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) I WAS VERY UPSET TO LEARN THAT ' ' GODZILLA - DESTROY ALL MONSTERS ' ' WAS NOT RELEASED FOR THE PS 2 ! BUT THEN THEY RELEASED ' ' SAVE THE EARTH ' ' AND I WAS TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY ! ALL YOUR GODZILLA FOES ARE FEATURED IN THIS KNOCK DOWN , DRAG OUT GAME . . WHILE THE GAME IS A BIT SLOW , IT IS STILL VERY ENTERTAINING TO PLAY . AS YOU CAN USE YOUR ARMS TO PUNCH , YOUR TAIL TO KNOCK YOUR ENEMY OFF THEIR FEET , AS WELL AS USE YOUR SPECIAL POWERS . BUT YOU HAVE TO WAIT TILL YOUR BAR IS FULL OR AT LEAST HALFWAY FULL , IN ORDER TO USE YOUR SPECIAL POWERS . . BUT THE ALL TIME BEST PART IS PICKING UP PLANES , ROCKS , BOATS , BUILDINGS , AND OTHER STUFF TO HURL AT YOUR OPPONENT.BUT YOU CAN ALSO GRAB YOUR ENEMY TO JUST TOSS THEIR ASS AWAY FROM YOU.THE MINI GAMES ARE OK , BUT NOT THE GREATEST PART OF THE GAME.BUT YOU NEED TO CREATE A PROFILE , IN ORDER TO BUY BONUS MONSTERS , PLACES TO FIGHT , ARTWORK , AND A FEW OTHER THINGS AS WELL.THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT THERE ARE 3 MECHAGODZILLAS , WHEN ONLY 1 WAS REALLY NEEDED . THEY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A FEW OTHER FOES OF GODZILLA'S INSTEAD - LIKE : SPIGA , OR THE ALLOSAURUS , FROM MONSTER ISLAND . . EVEN GAMERA WOULD HAVE BEEN A COOL CHOICE ! BUT ALL IN ALL IT IS A COOL AND FUN GAME TO PLAY ALONE , OR WITH A PAL . . GOOD LUCK GETTING YOUR WIFE TO PLAY IT WITH YOU ! ! ! WOMEN ! THEY JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND . . SO GET IT TODAY , AND HAVE A LOT OF FUN . . . .

  • Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) The older kids chipped in and bought me this for Christmas - - I haven't had much chance to play because the younger kids ( 5& 6 ) have monopolized it . Even the wife enjoys it , and she's a self-confessed non-gamer - - the ' easy ' levels of the game allow anyone to win their levels within one or two tries , with just enough frustration on the ' Challenges ' to keep their egos in check . Why do I have to be Rodan ? Isn't he a bad guy ? No , lad , these are monsters . They are just being monsters , doing what monsters do . Ok , the plot , which someone said had been hacked down to near nothing , nonetheless it does contain the essential bit of information you need to put your play in context . . . Who are the ' bad guys ' ? No , not the monsters , or even the myrmidon troops who get caught underfoot . It's not even the power-crazed paste-face alien who's duped the other residents of Monster Island into doing her bidding in her ploy to up her market worth . No , the real villians , they are , as usual in a Toho plot , the abject idiots who saw fit to hide the ultimate terrorist-targets em > in high-density urban locations / em > ! ! ! Jerks , stupid beyond imagination . Makes your skin crawl just contemplating the burocrat who signed off on tucking critical components for the ultimate weapon into innocuous urban office buildings . Dense , dense , dense . Who ever they are , and we never find out , I say they deserve to have their cities trampled , and Godzilla ( or who ever you choose ) , once again is the one to step forth to selflessly defend our planet in spite of ourselves , once again gives 110% of himself as he thwarts the alien megalomaniac-tress in her attempts to collect these deadly tidbits . Ok , back to the em > game / em > . . . replay value is what you make of it : There is no ' objective ' so you can monster-bash to your heart's content , and yes , it doesn't save your ' state ' when you exit before championing your current tournement but that doesn't matter because each tournement is a random assignment em > anyway / em > . You just go back and battle some more . There's the Survival and Melee modes for pure monster-paring fun ( it's what monsters u > do / u > , remember ) and , as noted in other reviews , you can play up to 4 players on one PS2 or go online for what I might imagine is a fab way to waste some time ( I hope it has a chat-channel component ! ) There are also some ' challenges ' which include the expected Trash the City , Win Prizes and Trash the Navy and even Intercept alien invaders without accidentally trashing the very building you're defending ( my apologies to the Mayor of S.F . , it was an em > accident / em > , honest it was ) , but also some pure-camp challenges like monster bowling and some pickup basketball . As I mentioned , the Easy mode is easy enough that my 6 year old just came bounding upstairs to inform me that he's purchased his second set of expansion monster-kits , but if you need more challenge , you can bump that up to Medium or Hard - - my guess is the Teen rating is either due to parental pressure-groups upset at the ' example ' Godzilla may have for young minds ( as the evil scientist says in G.vs.Mothra , Kids know : Monsters mean peace ) or it is because the controls for each monster are very complicated for the youngsters , requiring both thumb-sticks for the challenge levels and with many multi-key battle actions - - the joystick face / aim still confounds them , but my kids just press buttons randomly until they get a sense of the controls , and the manual does say there are actions not enumerated in the docs . It's not a big deal for them , they can still enjoy the game while doing poorly in the challenges . Precision control isn't really a requisite : This is , after all , monster-bashing , not brain surgery . The result is a game the whole family can enjoy one at a time or all together - - added bonus , the profile-save system makes it possible to save your own game-state by proper nouns ( someone should tell Nameco ! ) instead of Don't you dare touch Game 2 ! - - in the one-on-one games , you assign a profile to each controller and get access to your own hard-earned set of Monster Islanders . The only complaints I have are real nit-pickers : ul > li > Oh look , Martha , there's some monsters decking it out in the park ! I guess we better take 12th instead . - - - Cars , busses , delivery vans and anything else non-military should be trying to get out of the neighbourhood as quickly as possible , and when you step on them , they shouldn't re-appear and drive away . Then again , we do get some amusement out of this : Delivery for a Mr.Ghidorah ! Sign here please ! / li > li > When I rip a building out of it's foundation , I expect to see shreds and pipes dangling out the bottom . This is just a personal preference . / li > li > It's wonderfully spooky to mash monsters in a familiar landscape , and I can't fault the game for this , but considering the Internet component wouldn't it have been great if there was a DOOM-like WAD-File editor where we could design our own battle arenas and trade them online ? One footprint would pretty much take out our em > entire / em > downtown here in Sauble , but a Toronto or Ottawa mode might be cool . / li > / ul > I'm hesitating on giving it 5 - Stars Overall only because I'd reserve that for games where you and I are invited to extended , contribute and share what we create into the game's universe ; not to blame the game , this just wasn't in the plan for em > Save The Earth / em > and that's too bad , but there's no sense crying over stomped milk-trucks . All things considered , it's a great game , at least for those of us who em > understand / em > the Godzilla mythos . Live long and trample .
    • 001 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) As of now alot of critics are really hating on this game , but if you're a Godzilla fan do not believe them . Someone looking for spot on controls and a non-button mashing fighting game should probably look elsewhere . Being a Godzilla fan for over 25 yrs . I can honestly say the monsters all behave and have their signature growls as if I was watching one of the Godzilla movies . Graphics are real good on the ps - 2 and the monsters all look better then the DAMM from the gamecube and x-box . Environments are quite large and the selection of monsters is outstanding . Lots of modes to unlock and this makes the replay value very high , considering the fact that if you're a big G-fan then you will want to go through them all w / all the monsters to unleash all their different attacks . But the game is not perfect , by any means . Some of the negatives would be the fact that on some of the modes and in Action mode you have to also control the camera when firing your beam . I am all about playing games that are difficult , but Atari makes this part FRUSTRATING ! ! It is kind of annoying . When going through Action mode if you quit at any point the only part that is saved is any points you have accumulated ( which goes towards buying monsters , arenas etc . . ) . Therefore if you were on the 3rd . level forget about continuing from that point the next time you turn on the ps - 2 . You have to begin at the very beginning of Action mode . I forgive the modes where you have to control the camera-practice makes perfect , but this part , the developers really blew it . One of the worst things a programmer could do to a true gamer . Another downside is the music-it is pretty bland . When you finish action mode the Godzilla march is played , big deal . It would sound so much better if it was played during a match , as well as all the other anthems from the Godzilla movies . The story for action mode was rushed and alot of it was cut before the game was released . This creates a story that really makes no sense , but considering that alot of the big G-movies had plots that either made little sense or were pointless , then this kinda makes the action mode feel cheesy-but in a good way . I wish you could play as Biollante and Hedorah , w / like 18 monsters to choose from this is just a personal gripe . But we are talking about a game that is based on movies where men in rubber suits beat the hell out of eachother , so the monsters do not move like soul caliber characters . This makes you feel like you really are controlling a 300 ft . tall monster-excellent ! So all in all this game is a lot of fun and I felt like I was in an actual Godzilla movie . If you like button mashing and enjoy the Godzilla movies-trust me you will love this game . Aside from the above flaws Atari really did justice to Godzilla . An incredibly fun game ! ! ! !

    • 010 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) Godzilla rocks , plain and simple ; and this game proves it . You will get the feeling that you're watching one of the old ' 60s Godzilla movies when playing this game . The only difference is , you're the star . For the most part , the play mechanics are very simple - - ( 1 ) pick something up and throw it at the monster ( including other monsters ! What other game has this in it ? ) , ( 2 ) attack with monster-specific weapons ( Godzilla's atomic breath , Ghidorah's lightning , etc ) , or let the army kick his butt ( you have to get the enemy to do damage to the city first ) . Some of the minigames are very good . I personally use the city destruction for anger management ( you have 5 minutes to destroy at least 70% of the city - - NOT as easy as you'd think ) . There's also a version of basketball , using radioactive boulders ; a game where you attack the Japanese Navy ; and the hardest minigame of all - - keeping a fleet of flying saucers away from the Tokyo Tower . Most of the monsters are easy to control ; I personally love using King Ghidorah . The hardest one is without a doubt Moguera 2 , a giandt robot dinosaur that shoots missiles and lasers . Moguera keeps running out of missiles and energy very fast , so you have to destroy more buildings to reload - - which , as I said , attracts the army . One of the best features is being able to buy new cities and backdrops for your matches , as you win and get more points . I love the boxing ring - - sure , there's nothing to destroy , but so what ? This is a wonderful , violent , bloodless game for new and old Godzilla fans . Highly recommended .

    • 014 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) I wrote a review a year ago when my only systems where Gamecube and Playstation 1 . I was deeply disappointed in the fact that there was no Gamecube version of GSTE . However , to my surprise , my parents bought a PS2 for me and my brother on Christmas . And , my parents being so smart and knowing me so well , bought me Godzilla . It's the best fighting game in the world ( Tying of course with Tekken 5 ) . There are many more characters , places , and now there are events like monster bowling and destroy the city . Adding to the excitement is a brand new story featuring the vortak and their extremely hot queen , Vortica . They're goal is to obtain G-Cells in order to create a super monster for thier universal conquest . In order to get the G-cells , they've taken control of the monsters on monster island to retrieve them . But ( gasp ) one of the monsters has avoided mind control , and has taken off to fight the monsters . YAY ! Lucky humans . The fate of the universe is in your hands ! Anyway , it's a great game and if you know what's good for you , get it . thanks for reading .

    • 016 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) When I got Godzilla : Destroy all monsters , I didn't know what to expect . I was disapointed . However , this second game is much better . You get many more monsters , instead of earning them , you can buy them ! This feature is very nice because you can buy the most powerful monster ( Space-Godzilla ) first if you want ! Another nice feature is the challange mode . In action mode , you do 1 every 3 or 4 battles . It can be to save a sky-scraper from alien attack , or swimming under water to fight a submarian ! You can also play bowling or basketball ! This game has a lot more sweet features , so many I can't say them all ! This game took me on one heck of a ride , probobly you to , so , to take the trip , play Godzilla : Save the Earth !

    • 018 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) Godzilla : Destroy All Monsters Mele is one of my favorite games of all time with it's graphics , characters , and more . So when I heard about a sequel ( thanks to Tohokingdom.com ) , I started smiling like a clown ! There are more playable characters ( and Kiryu is coming to the american version , yes ! ) , more modes , better graphics , and kaiju charts ( to see how good your character is ) ! I can't wait for the game . The only reason I put four in overall is because one , it's not out yet so I haven't played it and two , it's not on Gamecube ( which is , in my opinion , the best fighting game system ) .

    • 020 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) This is what you wish for as you sit there watching the Godzilla movies . . . more monster action . Sometimes the monsters aren't even on screen in the movies for more than 50% of film . Well , you don't have to worry about that with the video game . Godzilla : Save The Earth is all out monster battle ! Most of your favorite monsters are here for you to choose from . Hardly any are missing . In fact , I must have lost touch with some of the later Godzilla movie releases , because the game introduced me to some new monsters . You get to pick whichever monster you want to be , then you go to battle against your most popular foes . You can pick and battle against any of the following : Godzilla 1990s ( but not burning Godzilla ) , Godzilla 2000 , SpaceGodzilla , MechaGodzilla 2 , MechaGodzilla 3 , King Ghidora , Mecha-King Ghidora , Gigan , Mothra ( larva or moth ) , Rodan , Anguirus , Megalon , Megaguirus & Destroyah ; and the ones that I'd never seen in the movies : Orga , Moguera , Baragon & some Power Ranger looking thing called Jet Jaguar . You control as a third person all of your monster's actions . Each monster has unique moves and abilities that take some practice to master with different controller commands . Most of the monsters need to be unlocked through successful gameplay before they are available . If memory serves me correctly , The Godzillas , Anguirus & Megalon are the only ones unlocked from the beginning . Only gameplay in single player Action Mode will earn points that can be used to unlock monsters and / or arenas in the store . The arenas are : Tokyo , Osaka , Monster Island , Seattle ( the previous four being the only ones unlocked from the beginning ) , New York , San Francisco , London , Boston , Los Angeles , the Asteroid Belt , the Mothership and a Boxing Ring . There's also a 2 - player mode ( Versus ) , an up to 4 - player mode ( Melee ) , and a couple of practice modes ( Challenge & Survival ) . You can also set up Godzilla : Save The Earth for online play , which I have not done . Why this game has a T rating is beyond me ! My 5 year old loves this game , and he has made sushi out me in Versus and Melee modes . So if you're a parent who is contemplating getting this game for a Godzilla-loving pre-teen , I'd say there's nothing here that will warp you kid's little mind . The graphics are the only downfall to this game ; they are extremely cartoonish . But that doesn't take away from the game's fun . Overall , it's a really fun purchase . . . especially for a Godzilla fan . Sadly , it's hard to find a new Playstation2 version of this title other than from third party sellers ( that's how I got my copy and it went without a hitch ) . The X Box version is , as of this writing , still available new on Amazon .

    • 022 4  This is what you wish for as you sit there watching the Godzilla movies . . . more monster action . • 026 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) I'm glad I waited for a Godzilla game to come out on PS2 , it was worth it . You can be several different monsters and just fight , fight , fight ! It's the next best thing to being a Toho monster yourself . Highly recommended .

    • 030 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) Innitially I heard from reviews that this game wasn't highly rated . I bought it and as a multiplayer game it's the best game I have . Each monster has its own personality and strengths . All the monsters are equally rated for battle . The secret to winning with a monster is how well you know all of that monsters moves , timming , strengths and weakneses . I highly recommend this game especially in the multiplayer mode !

    • 032 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) This is one of the best Godzilla games I have ever played . I have played the one on gamecube but this packs a hard punch . With better graphics , added players , and new cities this is definetly a favorite on the way . I have been a fan of godzilla for 7 years and this definetly says GODZILLA !

    • 034 4  I could not be happier with this game ! It's far ahead of it's previous incarnations ( Destroy all Monster's etc . ) . The animation is smooth , detailed and accurate . There are 18 monsters to play - inluding both classic and new versions of Godzilla - and close to that many cities to battle in ( including New York , Boston , Seattle and San Fransisco - I smashed the office building from the Boston Legal tv show lastnight ) . It's an over-all blast to play . A must have for any gamer that grew up with Saturday afternoon monster movies .
    • 036 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) If you're a fan of the Toho Godzilla movies you will enjoy this game . All your old favorites , as well as monsters from the newer movies are here . It would have been nice to have a cheesy , light role-playing game for single player but what can you do ? Maybe someday they will make a game in the vein like RAD Robot Alchemic Drive . As it stands this is a fight game pure and simple . I normally never buy those kind of games but this one was great . Who wouldn't love being their favorite monster ? The useability in the mini-games leaves something to be desired and it would have been nice to choose what monster you wanted . This game will definatly see a lot of use , especially when friends visit .

    • 038 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) Yes , I know the game is somewhat limited but I play this with my eight year old son and we have a great time . This game isn't really meant for the hardcore gamers . It is meant for the next generation of hardcore gamers . It's training wheels for future serious games . But for what it is and meant to be , a game for fahters and sons to play together , I have to give it five stars . Besides , Godzilla , in any area of play , is just darn cool .

    • 040 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) This game is preatty good i got this game for x-mas , and i got to say after hours of playing this game i have to say its a 4.5 all right . This game is twice as better than the first and as so many cool new monsters like space godzilla . There is lots of replay value to this game. But want i really want to say is that the online is preatty fun , but is missing some must have for any online games.Like theres no chat room or buddy list.Even when your playing online it doesnt even show your user name , let me say that agian it doesnt show your user name at any time : - ( So theres no way to know if your playing the same person for sure , but the important thing is at least there is online and you get to prove your godzilla skills agianst a real person . I say want intell is drops in price or rent it but if your a true godzilla fan its a must have.O ya one more cool thing about online is that if your friend is over you both get to play on the same console online together . thanks for reading my review : - )

    • 042 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) We rented this game for my five year old to see if he could handle it as it is rated T . He loves it . It's a joy to see him bouncing around the living room with the controller in his hands imitating godzilla ! Only once has he gotten a bit frustrated ; but soon the need to be godzilla took over , and he was right back at it . I'm not sure why it is rated T ; but I do know that if you love godzilla , at any age , this is a fun game .

    • 044 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) I recently purchased this game , because I grew up watching the ' zilla films on Saturday late morning monster theater . The rubbery suited creatures had become a part of my imagination for some time , so to acutally be able to play one was indeed a thrill . I also own the game War of the Monsters , which was purchased for the same nostalgic reasons . I will have to say that when you compare the two games War of the Monsters wins hands down . The interaction with the environment with WotM is definitely better than in GStE . Although the monster in WotM don't have names that are familiar to people the stereotypes will be ( from giant bugs that echo movies like Them to giant apes and lizards similar to Kong and ' zilla to Japanese robots and Army made automons ) . The definite fun aspect to GStE is the fact that you get to play as the old familiar monsters . Even Jet Jaguar becomes an unlockable playable character . The graphics are great , yet the interaction with the environment leaves a lot to be desired , in comparison to WotM . You can pick up chunks of buildings and throw them at your opponent , which is similar to WotM , but you cannot chuck gas trucks or impale your opponent with a radio tower like in WotM . The buildings in GStE just sort of fall to the ground and even the animation of the monsters walking in the water leaves a lot to be desired . After saying all that if you are a Godzilla fan then you will most likely enjoy this game ( like I do , but on a different level than with WotM ) . Similar to my review concerning the X-Files game I believe you will like this game more so if you are a fan of the genre than if you are looking to get a good monster smashing game .

    • 048 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) The older kids chipped in and bought me this for Christmas - - I haven't had much chance to play because the younger kids ( 5& 6 ) have monopolized it . • 050 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) Being a G-Fan , Destroy All Monsters Melee wasn't what I expected it to be . First of all , a lack of some of Godzilla's most important and finest monsters really was annoying . Save The Earth comes back much bigger and better , with some of the monsters that didn't appear in Destroy All Monsters Melee such as Mothra , Baragon , Jet Jaguar , Space Godzilla and more . Though a couple of the stages may seem squeezed in and small such as the Golden Gate or Monster Island Bay , a lot of the stages are huge . The game also has fun challenges that are unlocked as you play them in the main one player mode [ Action Mode ] such as Monster Bowling , where players toss boulders and try to knock down three monsters at the same time [ With each monster staying down for 30 seconds each ] , Vorillium Basketball [ Monsters throw super-sized balls into a hoop carved into the side of a mountain ] and Battleship [ Players toss boulders , small buildings or shoot beams at battleships trying to shoot them ] . Monsters also have a little more uniqueness than before with special abbilites . For example , Mothra doesn't have a Rage attack [ Like a special attack ] , Space Godzilla's grappling attacks take up energy and . Jet Jaguar can change sizes and utilize different abilites such as deflecting beam attacks when he is extra small and knocking monsters high into the air whenever he falls on the ground when he is in his extra large size . The game is simply fantastic , the game is a little harder to finish than it was in Destroy All Monsters and neat , mini-game like challenges are extremely fun . Plus , multiplayer is extremely fun as you and your friends pick different monsters and brawl against eachother in areas such as Boston or San Fransisco or recreate epic battle scenes straight from the movies . Beleive me , if you're a G-Fan , this game is perfect .

    • 052 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) This is a pretty fun game . I play it alot . But ! ! ! ! ! ! Wait ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Where the heck is King Kong ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? King Kong is the coolest Godzilla foe and I think he definitely deserves to be in this cool game . Other than that , it's a fun video game .

    • 054 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) This is truley one of the most awesome games ever put on system , it could've been better and all but at least it's a cool game ! When I got sick on Easter my dad rented this for me because I wanted the Incredibles and Tony Hawks Underground 2 but they didn't have it .
    • 056 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) I couldn't disagree more with the person who thought not having an ongoing storyline in the game was a drawback . It's the best thing they could have done ! You can just get out there and fight your monsters instead of watching cut scenes and having fights interrupted when you really just want to bash something . Two player is even more fun , because if you want to , you can ignore each other and just stomp around destroying Tokyo ( or whatever city you're in ) . You can pick up buildings , ships , your opponent , etc and throw them , or you can kick and punch things till they fall down . Great way to get your frustrations out . If anyone is familiar with a game called Robot Alchemic Device from a couple of years ago , Godzilla : Save the Earth has accomplished what that game tried and failed to do . RAD had a boring ongoing story line that you couldn't skip no matter how many times you had seen it , which interrupted the game play frequently and annoyingly without any reason - - in fact it often resulted in your losing a round because your action was frozen during the cut scene but your opponent could and did continue to fight . You also had a cumbersome and useless human counterpart to deal with , people to save who were so annoying that you really just wanted to kill them yourself , and split screens and perspectives that made it impossible to see what you were doing . It was pretty much worth the hassle when you could actually just get out there and fight with your robots , because that part was awesome - - but it sure was a lot to put up with to get to the fun . Godzilla has corrected all those irritating mistakes and delivers a fun game with no distractions or constraints to doing what you want to do when you play a game like this one - - destroy ! The inclusion of several Godzilla variations and many classic monsters from the old movies is a real plus . As with any video game I would recommend renting or borrowing it before you spend a lot of money on it , but if you like fast action fighting games , I think you'll give this one a 5 out of 5 !

    • 058 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) This Godzilla game is great , I bought this game for my 10 year old son . My son has been playing this game since x-mas and has not stopped .
    • 060 4  0ne reason to buy this game is because another godzilla game godzilla unleashed has more monsters an awsome storyline. One reason to buy save the earth is that one extra monster but its much of differents but you should buy both .
    • 061 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) Wow was I surprised when I played this ! ! ! the selection of monsters is HUGE also great destructable environments ! power up's and tons of extras to keep you coming back for more . godzilla hasn't looked this great ever in motion picture history with all the Great Sound Effects of the creatures ! definately a sweet fighter , a great godzilla game and wonderfully done my only gripe was the lock on system , its a tad off because when you lock on and launch a special attack like breat weapon etc it does NOT auto aim at the target you MUST be facing the target to hit it with a lock on otherwise a Stellar title ! Graphics : 5 of 5 easily . godzilla and friends are beautifully rendered in this game ! Sound : Supreme creature sounds otherwise above avg . 4 1 / 2 stars Fun and Replayability : 5 star ! Tons of unlockable monsters , arenas , cities , and concept art and tons more including minigames ! this title will keep you coming back for more with ease ! Godzilla : Save the Earth

    • 066 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) I don't have anything actually NEW to say about this game . If you have sought this out because you want to ( a ) be Godzilla and battle all the other monsters in the G-verse ( and smash a pleasant variety of cities in the process ) or ( b ) want to battle Godzilla and the other monsters AS one of the other monsters , you really won't be disappointed . Really good graphics , easy-to-learn controls . . . What more could you ask for ? This is a fight game , nothing more , but it doesn't try to pretend it's anything more . Mash the buttons fast and laugh with your friends who are either watching you play or playing with you . Good , clean fun for anyone in the room !

My son has played it quite a bit and earned a few monsters , but it really picked more interest when we unlocked alot more of the monsters . . . Who would think that one could pick up so much geography knowledge by playing Godzilla : )

    • 072 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) I was tres excited when I heard that a Godzilla game would be out on the PS2 . I had played War of the Monsters many times , and while fun , it just wasn't quite the same because there was no brand recognition . . . no monsters that anyone had ever heard of . Well , Godzilla Save the Earth has plenty of that , but now that I've played it , I'd trade the brand name monsters for better game play any day . The game is set up like your typical fighting game , albeit with a somewhat more interactive environment . Such games have key points players look at , so I'm rating them appropriately : 1 : Graphics . The monster graphics are great . They look , move and feel just like those big , cumbersome beasts we all love from the Godzilla movies . The weapon effects are also very good , particularly Godzilla's fiery atomic breath . The downside to the graphics are the environments . The buildings , boats , smokestacks and other man made gooides you can demolish in the game are very blandly drawn , and when destroyed sort of just sink to the ground . Not very impressive , and it isn't the fault of the PS2 ; other games have much better environments and run on the PS2 just fine . All in all , it makes the game look sort of half finished . 2 : Sound . Very good . The monsters sound just like they should , and the weapons sound great , too . There is no soundtrack while playing , but that's not a big deal . 3 : Options . Not bad , but not great , either . Basically , you have a token system where you have to buy cities to fight in , or new monsters to fight with . Rather than automatically unlocking a monster when you win the action mode , you just burn your points as you see fit . Why anyone thought this was a good idea escapes me , but they did . 4 : Gameplay . Well , this is the crux of it , isn't it ? Play itself is pretty much like any fighting game . You've got punches and kicks , special combinations , and a few long-ranged attacks each monster can employ . They are all differenet weapons , so in theory they should play differently , but it just doesn't work like that . Each monster feels suspiciously like any other . That's okay , in and of itself ; after all , it's a fighting game , and the quicker you can learn it the better off you are . What better way to learn quickly than to make all the moves essentially the same ? Sure , there are some exceptions , but for the most part , a quick up on the left pad and a press of the X , and you get an uppercut move , no matter who you are . Why , then , did I rate the game poorly ? Because what I just described is the entire game . There is no story mode ; yes , the packaging claims there is one , but it includes only a short beginnning cut scene that is generic to all monsters . You don't know why you're fighting , where , or what the outcome is . Truly , they named it right with action mode . . . because they story is non-existant . The other modes are typical of the breed ; survival , challenge , and melee ( which allows up to four players . ) You'd think melee would be a high point to the game , but it isn't . This is where the games design hurts it . What is desperately needed to make an effective four player melee is a split screen , and this game doesn't have it . Instead , all four players are crammed on the screen at once , and are pitifully small to look at . They are also hard to control , because the camera angle is fixed , making it extremely hard to judge who you are aiming for . It's clunky , and feels half finished . Rather than being what should be a high point to the game , it's a bleary mess . Replayability : Ick . It's fun for awhile , but if you aren't playing online multiplay , you'll tire of it quickly . Multiplay is where the game shines , but in my opinion , builidng a fighting game to please the multiplayer crowd at the expense of a good single player mode is a mistake . All in all , Godzilla Save the Earth is an okay game , worth a rent for you and some buddies . Go trash a city , beat up on each other , and have some popcorn munching fun . But don't expect any longevity from the game ; it just doesn't have it .

    • 088 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) Godzilla saved the day in Destroy All Monsters but Atari has destroyed my chance to continue the battle by not putting it on Game Cube . I'm a nintendo owner and I've been a Godzilla fan all my life . . . even before I could play video games ! When I saw Destroy All Monsters released on Game Cube , I was incredibly happy and I said this is one of the best games I've played . Two years later I go to Godzilla's official website and see Godzilla Saves the Earth and I'm so happy until I realize it will only be available on PS2 and XBOX . So I can't give this game a good review because it ignores Nintendo Game Cube owners like me !

    • 090 4  This review is from : Godzilla : Save the Earth ( Video Game ) I saw Godzilla : Destroy all monsters on gamecube one day and immediately was interested . It was a small interest at first , but then I looked into it , and I loved it . I've seen every movie and I have a plan for Godzilla's 50th . So , when I saw the Godzilla : save the earth , I was incredibly excited . But then I noticed the tiny label for the PS2 and Xbox . That brings this one down to a lone star . Sorry . I'd think more of it if it was on gamecube too .
