Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

  • 041 4  Okay , to get this reveiw started I'd like to introduce Godzilla to any one who thinks that he's a cheesy and outdated movie king . The only Godzilla those people have seen is the one used in crapy comercials and TV shows . Godzilla vs the Comit . For example showed strings all over the place and tiny match flames for the fires . My GOD ! and people I know thought that was a real Godzilla movie ! Godzilla Mothra and King Ghidorah is a real Godzilla movie ! Also , if someone says that dinosaurs aren't suppose to stand upright here's me response Many movies break the laws of nature but you go and critisize Godzilla for no reason . So if you haven't seen a Godzilla movie don't you dare go around and say that you can see strings everywhere and that CGI is better then suits . Strings are hardly ever visible in the Japanese versions . When I was a kid , I could always tell what was CGI and what wasn't . But whith Godzilla , I never thought of a way to make him look fake because he didn't look fake . Anyways , GMK is my personally most favorite movie ( Not Godzilla movie , movie . ) The suits were very realistic once again . The CGI used was okay ( I could always tell when they were using CGI . ) The special effects were extremely good which is why I recomend this movie to get someone into Godzilla . In todays world , everyone goes by special effects which are getting outrageously too realistic . But what I like about GMK is that when an explosion comes on screen I can't tell if it's a real explosion or a CGI one . The highlight of this movie for me was the battle scenes . They weren't those kind of Godzilla battles where you watch it once and get tired of it . These battles I still am not tired of . And they look so realistic , and they use mostly suits ! About the suits , most of them were done pretty well . Baragon's suit was awesome ! His movements were really well done . Also , Mothra was preobably the best suit . even though I hate Mothra on personal reasons I still had to give her the cake . For the first time she actually flaps her wings fast , though it hasn't bothered me until I saw this movie and got use to her flapping quickly . Mothra's design was also a step forward . Her small changes actually made me more fond of her . The new wasp-like apearence such as her abdomen curled forward and something that looked like a stinger . Godzilla's suit , one of my favorites . His new head was the best thing I could hope for to make Godzilla look dark and evil . His eyes are white giving him an almost zombie-like apearence . I loved how he would curl up his lip when he was angry and show his gums . The problem I had with Godzilla was his giant beer belly . Everything else was great . King Ghidorah was a mayjor disapointment . Those his lightning rays looked more leathel then ever he still had a few mayjor problems . His three heads were way too short and for the first time in history he wasn't larger then Godzilla which made him look kind of cowardly next to the cold eyes god of monsters . His wings looked more like yellow paper bags hanging from his back . Until they were unfolded and flapping through the air did they look good , but they were still kind of small . This movie also has some of the best character development of a Godzilla movie I've ever seen ! One thing I had with the humans was their mouths and the English dialog ( again . ) But , that isn't Toho's fault , that is Tristar's for being such idiots and making it seem like Japanese people can't move their mouths to the words they're saying . I also liked a cool addition that would make Godzilla movies look a lot better . In GMK , when Godzilla's heat ray hits the ground or a battleship the camera will shake giving you even more feel on how powerful Godzilla is . Oh , Godzilla's trademark heat ray was very good in this movie . Unlike previouse films where he'll use it every second , GMK Goji only uses it for those special death scenes and god does it look like the other monster is going through a mayjor beating . In one scene Godzilla even causes a mushroom cloud with his heat ray . I take my hat off and bow to those poor people he fried . The music used in this movie , is very odd . It was a risky choise doing the kind of music used in the music since it had a lot of chorus and singing , something not normal to a Godzilla movie . It wasn't a bit like the normal Godzilla theme which isn't even in the movie until the ending credits but the music to me was great ! Last , I'd like to say that Godzilla finally got something in the Millennium Era that I bow to . G2k was okay but the battles and characters were dull . Tristar's GXM was horrible . I think they purposly lit the picture up so you could see the strings . GXMG was just boring after watching two times . GMMG or GSOS took way to long to finash the battle which wasn't very intense . Maybe Godzilla Final Wars will be like GMK . So far , It looks that way .
    • 002 4  This is an interesting episode in the Godzilla saga . Once again TOHO has re-written Godzilla's past . In this story , Big G has not been seen since 1954 , but everyone has a funky feeling he'll return one day . And he does . But this time , there are three Guardian Monsters - Baragon , Ghidorah , and Mothra - to stop him . This is a very mystical film that may be hard to fathom by American audiences . For example , Godzilla is powered by the souls of those who lost their lives in the Pacific War . So he is now a force of vengence , and not a force of nature as stressed in previous movies . Bad guy Ghidorah is now a good guy . Baragon is a lame monster . TOHO won't learn - 4 legged monsters just don't work ( it's obvious the man inside is walking around on all fours ) . One thing that really sets this apart is that Godzilla is seen killing people . Folks get trampled , burned , and buried under rubble and earth by Big G . This Zilla has a bad attitude . Japanese , with English subtitles . A nice addition to your Big G collection . Now if only they would re-make King Kong vs . Godzilla .
    • 003 4  Shusuke Kaneko is the man behind the recent trilogy of Gamera films that turned the giant turtle from film camp to excellent cinema . He changed the creature's origin to that of myth and gave the movies a great script , close human involvement , amazing special effects ( the last entry rivalling standard effects , ) and leaving a breath of wonderful imagination over the series . But Kaneko wasn't done . He wanted to make a Godzilla movie . With Godzilla-Mothra-King Ghidorah : Giant Monsters All-Out Attack , he has brought everything from that Gamera series to Godzilla . The human drama is interesting , the pain of the Japanese people is realistic , the monsters look great . . . This very well may be one of the best Godzilla movies yet made . This is one of the movies that ignores all others except the first . Godzilla appeared in 1954 , was defeated , and has not been seen since . However , there are those who believe that the monster will reappear , such as the current Japanese Admiral . A submarine has been destroyed off of Japan , and a submersival has discovered it , as well as catching a glimpse of something's spines beneath the water . The Admiral's daughter , Yuri , is a reporter for a local tabloid TV station . She believes she may have caught on to something real , but her boss won't let her pursue it . Soon , reports of monsters appearing spread over Japan . An old man tells Yuri that they are the Sacred Beasts , guardian monsters who will defend Japan when Godzilla returns . . . and boy , does he ever return . No longer the spawn of the atomic bomb , Godzilla is now composed of the souls of those who died in the wars of the Pacific , exacting their revenge for being forgotten . The story is involving and it's nice to care so much about the humans ( for a change in these movies . ) But that's not all . Because of the mythic background Kaneko has given the Godzilla monsters , they end up having human souls . . . and human actions . The monsters no longer act like intelligent animals . Baragon ( not in the title , but he's here ) plans before attacking Godzilla . Mothra does the same , as well as showing compassion for her fellow beasts . And Ghidorah goes from terror to noble warrior . Godzilla is the best of them . His personality is one of malice and vengeance . He doesn't just wander around tearing things apart . He looks to a crowd of people , his back lights up , and . . . well , you know what happens . This is the most villainous Godzilla has ever been , even topping the original film in that sense . As for the monsters ' looks , they're hit and miss . Godzilla initially looks somewhat fat and awkward , but as he continues , begins to look powerful and even scary . His eyes have lost their pupils and his mouth is adorned with fangs . Baragon looks great and I love how his ears flare out when he roars . It's a shame he's missing his heat ray , but when crawling on all fours he looks better than when he tackled Frankenstein . Mothra is incredible and is the only one of the monsters to remain looking good completely . Alternating between suit and CGI , Mothra flies realistically and is awesome to behold . Ghidorah is on and off , like the first two . At some points , he is very detailed and looks menacing . At others , he looks fake . I was impressed at his wingspan at first , but then it diminished in suit-form and looked fake . You'll have to judge for yourself . As for sound , everything is clear and the dialogue is funny and touching at times ( I use subtitles though . ) The sounds of artillary and destruction are great . The monster roars remain as signature , but with some alterations that help exert their new format . Most pleasantly , Ghidorah regains his original chirp ( for the most part ) after losing it in his last film with Godzilla . The only problem with the movie is . . . well , monster time . By getting so wrapped up in what the humans were doing , I didn't notice time going by . The non-Godzilla monsters are slightly unrepresented , and those uninitiated into the series by other films may be confused about them , even though they shouldn't considering that this is a stand-alone project . In spite of that qualm , this movie is highly entertaining and involving . It tops all the other recent efforts and certainly shows off the magic that Kaneko has brought to the series . It also managed to save the series , considering that the success of this movie in Japan was the deciding factor in whether or not more Godzilla movies would be made for a while . In light of this fact , I hope Toho gives Kaneko the reins of the Godzilla franchise at least once more . He's certainly proven he knows how to make a great movie out of it .
    • 004 4  This one just blew me away when I saw it . Just freakin ' awesome ! The only films that even compare , technically , are the 3 Gamera films by the same director . I love Gamera and all , but Godzilla stomps all over him ! In this film , Godzilla returns to Japan to avenge those who died in the Pacific War and he has never been meaner . His eyes are pure white , giving him a demonic look about him and his fire breath unleashes all of the power of an atomic blast , mushroom cloud and all . Every time the combined might of the military and the 3 opposing guardian beasts threaten to stop his relentless destruction , the big guy pulls another trick out of his sleeve and just devastates . You will truly cheer for the villain in this film . The lead Japanese actress is adorable and does a great job with her character , and the supporting cast is good as well . I think what impressed me most about this film was Mothra . No longer can you practically see the wire holding her up as her wings slowly flap and propel her at a leisurely pace across miniature sets . This Mothra dodges and swoops between buildings at breakneck speed and even fires stingers from her abdomen . Pretty awesome stuff ! The shots of Baragon travelling through the forest are beautifully done as well . Ghidora is the least impressive , but most powerful , of the trio of guardian beasts . Still , the part where he bites Godzilla and shocks him is pretty darn cool . I disliked the ending , but due to the content of the rest of the film , I'm willing to accept it and bestow the highest honor I can give a film of any genre : a five star , absolute must-see rating .
    • 005 4  Spanning five decades , it's not too surprising that many Godzilla films are rehashes of earlier ones . GMK - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack is a welcome addition to the series largely because of its original take on the series ( as well as some suprisingly impressive special effects ) . In this movie , Godzilla is the embodiment of the souls of Japanese soldiers who died during WWII and have become sickened by the Japan they fought so hard to save . The Japan of today is decadent and without decency or honor , according to these spirits . Godzilla rises from the ocean to exact revenge . The undertones of hatred of society are unusually strong in this film but serve to make the film stand out from the rest of the series . A gang of mischevious youth attempt to drown a dog out of sheer boredom only to be entombed by Mothra . Teenagers giggle at how cute Godzilla was ( whom they have only seen in history books ) only to be slaughtered by said lizard in the middle of their joking . The arrival of Godzilla in the 21st century poses a problem for the Japanese military who have re-written history to claim that they successfully destroyed Godzilla in the 50s in order to justify their existance . A housewife scoffs at the idea of interrupting her shopping trip simply because of Godzilla only to be blasted to bits by the monster . A 30 - something couple ignores warnings to evacuate in an attempt to take a photo of the approaching Baragon ( which they will presembably brag to their friends about ) - - a mistake which results in their death at the hands of Godzilla . One cannot help but feel that many of the people who die at the hands of the monsters almost deserve it . Perhaps the souls of the WWII soldiers are on to something . . . Japan's protection comes in the form of three mythical monsters - - Baragon , Mothra , and King Ghidora - - as well as the Japanese military . Each monster is unique . Baragon features no fancy weapons but is all heart . Clearly outmatched , he fights to the death against Godzilla and you cannot help but be impressed . His bravery stands in stark contrast to the fleeing Japanese populace . Mothra deftly plans her attacks to take advantage of her aerial capability . Ghidora is content to duke it out with Godzilla on his own terms . And the Japanese air force , navy , and army attempt to regain some honor by destroying an enemy they have already claimed victory against . The SPFX are unusually good for a Godzilla film and the soundtrack features some of the best music of the series since Akira Ifukube . The leading characters , however , are another matter entirely as none of them are particularly likeable . This is a chronic problem in Godzilla films ( including the American film ) and serves to detract from the potential impact . The final battle against Ghidora drags on way too long ( how many times can this creature come back from the dead ? ) . And Toho still doesn't seem to understand that an aerial creature like Mothra would be significantly more effective if it flew faster than Godzilla's ability to blast it with his heat ray . The film's really shinning moment is in Godzilla's rampage through the city , before he engages any monsters , including an inspired choice of a Godzilla-cam point-of-view that lets the viewer see the fleeing Japanese populace as Godzilla sees them - - as an infestation of scurrying cockroaches that should be exterminated . As in the earlier film Godzilla vs . Biollante , the monster battles seem poor compared to the drama of Godzilla vs . humanity . All that having been said , this film is a refreshing look at the legend of Godzilla . While other films feature Godzilla as a unfair , cruel menace to humanity or as a goofy superhero savior , this film features a vengeful monster who's motivation is not entirely without merit . The film does an interesting job of dancing between condemming humanity as worthy of extermination and praising our species as being compassionate towards others . The main character , Lili , embodies some of this as she takes her father - - a famous war hero - - for granted until she sees him risk his life for Japan . For those who have longed for a Godzilla movie that harkens back to the seriousness of the original , this is about as close to that ideal as Toho is likely to achieve .
    • 006 4  Wow ! What a refreshing new direction to take the Godzilla series in . Godzilla is back and meaner than ever . This can quite possibly be the best Godzilla movie since 1964 ' s Godzilla vs . The Thing . One of the most surprising elements of this film is that is has the look of one of the earlier Godzilla films . I'll explain . The shots of the Japanese countryside with the Fall colors is reminisant of Ghidrah - The Three Headed Monster . Also , alot of shots during the monster battle scenes are taken from quite a distance away which was another trait of early Toho productions . The special effects are the best the series has offered with dazzling explosions and colors . This Godzilla film really sets itself apart from the entire series by being quite different from all the rest . Instead of science fiction it plays its hand at fantasy and it works . To all serious Godzilla fans this film should always be considered a milestone and a stong contender for one of the best in the series . If I was to introduce someone to the Godzilla series , I would begin with this . This is the Sgt . Peppers of Godzilla Movies ! ! Enjoy !
    • 007 4  REJOICE ! TriStar is finally releasing Godzilla films in JAPANESE with ENGLISH SUBTITLES-the way they should be seen . ( There's a dubbed version on this disc as well if you still want that childhood feeling of watching a monster movie on Saturday morning ) . Not only do we get the original Japanese , we also get 5.1 stereo and enhanced widescreen ( which is VERY important with a subtitled film when you watch it on a widescreen TV ) . As for the film itself : I'll admit I was a bit disappointed , considering that it is the first Godzilla film directed by Shusuke Kaneko , who had done so well with the Gamera series . Kaneko radically alters the science-fiction approach of the last decade of Godzilla films and aims for spiritual / fantasy backdrop . He also drastically re-invents Godzilla , turning him for the first time into pure evil ( instead of a destructive force of nature or radiation gone wrong , as in the first movie ) . This will bother some Godzilla fans and seems a step in the wrong direction . It's just a bit too out there , and not in keeping with the other films . Kaneko tends to let the mystical angle of the plot get away from him , often making the story muddled and confusing , and the monster's appearances and reasons for existing just don't seem to mix together . The monster fights aren't as exciting as in the previous Godzilla vs . Megaguirus , although the effects are tremendous and creative . It's just that the film never shoves itself over the top into the super-thrilling realm that it should . The drawn-out underwater finale also hurts the pacing , leaving us with the human characters for too long when Godzilla needs to be the focus . The electronic music score is also a miscalculation : it's different , but it isn't very exciting . On the other hand , the film can certainly be furious , and whether you dislike this incarnation of Godzilla or not , he's still cool and incredibly dangerous . The new suit is meant to be a throwback to the 1954 suit , with a few demonic additions ( like clear white eyes with no pupils-scary ! ) . The effects are the best ever seen in a Godzilla film . Mothra flies in spectacular ways never before attempted . King Ghidorah looks a bit stunted ( his necks should be longer ) , but he's still the best enemy Godzilla ever faced . And , strangely enough , lesser-known beast Baragon really comes across well . His fight with Godzilla at the film's mid-point is actually the best action scene in the film . And I will admit : as a one-time re-take on the Godzilla myth , it can be pretty interesting . ( The next film , Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla , gets back to the science-fiction approach . ) It's an experiment . Sometimes it works , sometimes it doesn't . But hey , it's still a Godzilla films , so fans : grab it now . Casual fans : you might want to see Godzilla vs . Megaguirus and Godzilla 2000 first , but I definitely recommend getting this as well . We need to encourage TriStar to give us more ! ROAR ON , GODZILLA !
    • 008 4  Back in August 2003 , I found out that Godzilla vs . Megaguirus ( 2000 ) and GMK ( 2001 ) where going to be on the Sci-Fi channel . I taped them , and GvM was great , but GMK was AWESOME ! It's definately the best American version of a Godzilla film I've ever seen ( I haven't seen any Japanese versions of the Godzilla films , sadly . I really want to see the original , uncut Godzilla movie WITHOUT Burr ) ! The story ignores all the other movies in the series except for the first , like G2K and GvM ( but 2002 ' s Godzilla X Mechagodzillla has a direct sequel , 2003 ' s Godzilla X Mothra X Mechagodzilla : Tokyo S.O.S . ) . It is about Godzilla reappearing in 2001 and wrecking havoc in Japan . However , there are three Guardian Monsters : Baragon , Mothra , and King Ghidorah . The movie centers around Godzilla duking it out with them . Everything in this movie is great . The acting makes you actually care about some of the characters . The music , by the Hesei Gamera's composer Kou Otani , is the best score since Godzilla vs . Destroyer ( 1995 ) . And , the special effects are outstanding ! They're as good as GINO , Godzilla In Name Only ( 1998 ) ! All four monsters look great , and Mothra finally looks cool . But my favorite monster is Godzilla ! He is charcoal gray , unlike G2K and GvM , had a more dinosaurian look , with white spines , and devastating thermonuclear breath . But why favorite feature on Godzilla is his eyes . They are pupiless and are white , making him look a little more scarier than usual . Shusuke Kaneko ( Gamera : GOTU through G3 : Revenge of Iris ) directs , making his Godzilla debut . Anyway , the greatest Godzilla movie I've seen yet ! 5 / 5
    • 009 4  Godzilla , Mothra , King Ghidorah : Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( something simply must have gotten lost in the translation for that title ) is arguably the best Godzilla movie of the new ' millennium ' series . Godzilla , for the first time since the sixties , is presented as pure evil , and is more effective here than he has been in a long time ( even if the rubber suit is a bit more lacklustre than usual ) . The monster battle scenes , featuring King Ghidorah , Mothra , and the long-forgotten Borodan , are up to the series ' recent high standard , and there are some interesting new takes on the monsters ' origins . Even if the human plot is decidedly uninteresting , this should still be a must for any Godzilla fan . The DVD presents the film in its original 2.35 : 1 aspect ratio . The picture is clean and sharp , with only minimal grain and print damage . Like all of Columbia Tristar's recent Godzilla releases , there is a choice between English dubbed / Japanese subtitled audio , which will keep purists happily . Unfortunately ( but unsurprisingly ) , there are no extra features other than some trailers for other Tristar Asian movies .
    • 010 4  I love GMK . With proper subtitles , it's the best Godzilla movie since the original . A lot of fans complain about the plot because , frankly , it comes across as garbled and silly in the American version . But I think it's a great idea to make Godzilla a possessed creature ; it's an effective way to tweak and modernize his character . But sadly , this American DVD cheapens the film's attempts at drama and depth by adding comedy dubbing that does not reflect the original script . Yes , the DVD has subtitles , but they're based on the dub - so they're not accurate either . Just how bad is the translation ? Here's just one example : on the Japanese DVD , one of the soldiers says : We're not allowed to open fire on Mothra . On the American DVD , he says something on the order of : Damn , that's a big , flying bug . Sorry , but that's a disgrace ; can't we make a serious adaption of these films , or must we turn them into dumb , unfunny farces ? Virtually every line has been changed to make the characters seem stupider and more melodramatic . If you like Godzilla because it's stupid , by all means , buy this ; but if you like Godzilla because it's good science fiction , pass until a better translation comes out . No wonder people don't give this movie enough credit - they haven't seen an accurate version ! Nice print and all , but in all the areas that really count , this DVD stinks .
    • 011 4  As I wrote in my review of Godzilla vs . Gigan there's no real point in going through the plot of a Godzilla movie . There's an attempt at plot with a young , attractive journalist and her father in the Japanese Defense Forces . ( on a side note , isn't America supposed to help defend Japan when she comes under attack ? So technically shouldn't we be assisting in defending her from Godzilla ? ) but it basically boils down to minor characters pointing and saying , Look Godzilla ! and government forces trying to figure out a way to sneak in and stab Godzilla in the back . What do we really watch these things for ? You got it - the monster battles ! And this film has plenty to offer . Godzilla comes under attack by the three Guardian Monsters , adding in the usual mix of Japanese sci-fi and fantasy that one often saw in the Godzilla films of the 60 ' s and 70 ' s . These monsters make up Baragon , Mothra , and King Ghidora . Yes , that's right , King Ghidora is actually a good guy here - as a long time fan I was happy to see Ghidora got some slack and be a hero for once . If you're looking for battle this is the right film , and the fights are more than just guys in suits slugging each other . Some of my favorite scenes included Godzilla wacking Baragon with his tail and King Ghidora flying out of the ruins , recharged and ready for battle . It's a good thing to see that the Godzilla filmmakers are attempting new ground while keeping within their niche appeal . There is a mix of computer effects along with the more traditional models , and it's well done . The CG models of the monsters ( mostly used during Mothra's flying and Godzilla's swimming ) look like the suits and aren't distracting . I sincerely wish serious Hollywood FX artists would look to examples like this in how to combine the best of two techniques . And of course , we still have the monster's classic moves , screams , and even Akira Ifukube's Godzilla theme is kept intact . As I always remind viewers , the Godzilla films are far from the works of Akira Kurosawa or Ozu Yasujiro , and those searching for fine cinema are suggested to look elsewhere . If you're a Godzilla fan or you like cheesy Japanese cinema then rent this puppy and enjoy .
    • 012 4  This movie , along with the original uncut Japanese version of Godzilla and the 3rd Heisei Gamera film , can be treated as not only a masterpeice of kaiju films but also of all cinema . This movie captures the soul and darkness of the original , and has the best special effects seen in the series . The monsters are spectacular . This is the most terrifying and powerful Godzilla teh series has seen in a long time . He is cruel , fast , extremely powerful and intelligent . Mothera and Baragon have gotten makeovers as well and look spectacular . King Ghidora looks a tad weak in the movie , and doesn't instill the ssame amount of awe and power he had in earlier movies . The acting from the main characters is great , and the human story is not just made as filler until the next kaiju battle . The script is much better than the quality of the script in the other movies in the Millenium series , and keeps the human story entertaining . I will be blunt : every single kaiju fan owes it to him or her self to see this movie , and even if you aren ; t a fan of the genre you will find this movie to be exhilirating and powerful .
    • 013 4  If you think of Godzilla as a laughable campy relic of the 60s and 70s , then watch this movie . It is as scary as a giant monster movie can get . Like the 90s Gamera movies this movie really gives a sense of what it would be like to be a human being amidst the awesome destruction brought on by giant monsters . The special effects are great ( no obvious remote control tanks here ) , the characters are interesting , and the defending monsters sympathetic . Godzilla , on the otherhand , is a truly fearsome , malevolent and powerful engine of destruction . As opposed to the other people who whine about Godzilla being turned into the bad guy and King Ghidorah being made good , if you don't like it , then don't watch it . I applaud Toho for treating their post 2000 Godzilla movies as individual stand-alone sequels ( except for the most recent three which were wdesigned as a trilogy ) to the original 1954 Godzilla , and found the changes made to what we've come to expect in Godzilla movies refreshing rather than formulaic ( and much better than the boring 1980s - 90s G films ) G-films we're all used to.To be frank , the continuity of the previous two series of Godzilla films was one of their most lacking , and inconsistent , features . Watch it in the original Japanese language with subtitles , and be thankful that these terrific recent Godzilla movies are finally being released respectfully here in the U.S . .
    • 014 4  This is the darkest Gojira film since the original from 1954 . Thanks to the director of the awesome Gamera : Advent of Legion , Shusuke Kaneko . He has a knack for making dark , sinister , awesome Kaiju films . This is what Gojira is suppose to be : a wicked , unstoppable force . Gojira shows no mercy towards anyone or anything . Gojira purposely takes human life . Look for a scene with a girl in a hospital as Gojira approaches . Grant it , Ryuhei Kitamura's Godzilla : Final Wars is good , but it is nothing like this film . One of the great aspects of this film is that Gojira has all white eyes ; being that he is possessed by the souls of dead soldiers . King Ghidorah being a savior of man is something different . He was always a destroyer of mankind . Overall , the finest Kaiju film in decades . MUST BUY ! ! !
    • 015 4  In Godzilla , Mothra And King Ghidorah : Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( or GMK for short ) , we are treated to possibly the best Zilla film to date . Acting as if all the movies inbetween never existed , GMK is the 2001 sequel to the original 1954 classic , Godzilla : King Of The Monsters . In all of these years , the giant beast has been presumed dead , while the highest of military officials fear otherwise . Well , he is indeed alive , and he's come back for more ! To Japan's horrific surprise , Godzilla has returned from the depths of the Pacific Ocean once again to destroy their cities and end their lives via atomic breath and his massive size capable of annihilating even the largest of obstacles . There may be hope , however . As the prophecy holds , there are three guardian monsters that must rise to protect the Earth should Godzilla return . Those three consist of Baragon , Mothra , and King Ghidorah ( I guess mentioning Baragon in the title would have made the name simply too friggin long , so . . . ) . As always , the military wants to get involved and attempt to destroy The King Of Monsters themselves , yet once the other giant creatures wake from their slumber , they really don't have any other choice but to stand by and watch the mayhem unfold . In addition - - somewhere in the midst of all this building-smashing , road-crunching , people-burning , monster-flinging , mind-blowing madness - - there is a sub-plot between a father and his daughter . Ha ! Like we have the time . . . Once the opening credits hit , you know you're in for something highly entertaining . That feeling never rests ! GMK is the most action-packed Zilla movie I've seen . And just because we still get to see rubber suits doesn't mean it's cheesy action , either . I love the corny sci-fi flicks with horrible special effects as much as anyone , but this is actually quite realistic . Impressive CGI , an incredibly dark atmosphere , a nicely woven storyline , and superb acting all compliment this newer yet in no way lesser look at Godzilla . The suits are certainly more fierce and evil-looking , with nice touches such as more elaborate facial movements and slick cinematography . Also , plenty of back-story is given to the monsters , which is always nice to fans . I felt like I was finally witnessing what I've been looking for in all these years of monster flick after monster flick . All in all , this is a must-have for any lover of giant monsters - - especially Godzilla fans . The DVD may not have special features ( besides a few trailers ) , but it does have great audio and visual quality , widescreen presentation , and a choice between the English-dubbed version and the undubbed Japanese version with English subtitles ( now how cool is that ) . Even without extra features , the movie is all the reason you need to purchase this . Ultimately , I can't see why anyone would not enjoy GMK to it's fullest . This is pure daikaiju bliss ! I'm certainly glad I bought this , and I encourage any fans to make the same purchase immediately !
    • 016 4  This review is from : Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( DVD ) What a treat this film turned out to be . I've seen the majority of Godzilla films , and this is my favorite so far . Godzilla is a mean-spirited murderer in this film , stomping on , and frying crowds of people with real malevolence . He is scarier , and crueler than usual in this movie . Some of the effects are the best I've seen in any Godzilla film . The shots of him coming ashore and attacking the relatively small , coastal city ( Shizuoka / Kaizu harbor ) , are fresh , thrilling and spectacular . Ghidorah , Baragon and Mothra get to be good guys in this one , a cool twist . This is probably the best-directed Godzilla film , overall . Shusuke Aneko humanizes the film surprisingly well , and camp is kept to a minimum . ( Just be aware that some camp factor is especially unnavoidable in the dubbed English version ) . Watching in Japanese with English subtitles minimizes the camp to a surprising degree , in many cases ( to my sensibility ) . But with DVD , the choice is yours . Director Aneko's handling of the action scenes is utterly masterful . The entire sequence in Hakone valley is pure genius , IMO , and Godzilla's prior entrance is truly breathtaking . Many human-perspective shots are done from where the escaping people would see the beasts ( thru car windshields , hospital windows , and from the ground a few hundred yards away from the titanic battles ) . In this way , the movie outdoes Cloverfield , and yet , it is 7 - 8 years older ! There are even some ghostly supernatural touches to round out the plot - - Something about a mysterious old man-A powerful hermit-medium , who warns of Godzilla , is able to astral-project himself , and eventually even has the psychic capabilities to channel millions of dead souls from WWII into 3 sleeping Guardian monsters to awaken them for the great death-duel with you-know-who . It's a wild explanation , but it's just cool-sounding enough to work , until the monsters take over the show and the gifted Director Aneko really gets to flash his chops . The film delivers on its promise of imaginative sci-fi / myth-action more in the way of a big movie like Independence Day , than like a traditional Godzilla movie with all of the expected conventions ( although it still keeps a few ) . If you like Godzilla & have not seen this one yet , you are in for a real treat . It is a true gem ( if you like Godzilla ) .

    • 018 4  This is definitely near the top of the list of best Godzilla movies of all time . The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that I don't think Godzilla movies are the greatest movies in the world in general , so even the best of Godzilla movies only deserve 4 stars . Except maybe THE best one or two Godzilla movies of all time might deserve 5 stars . . . but this movie is probably just below . Though released in the 2000 era . . . this is not really a part of the Godzilla Millenium series . The costume is not the same as Godzilla 2000 or later movies . . . and his flame breath effect has reverted to blue . However , the flame effect is also unique and technologically impressive in this movie , so this movie is definitely well done . It appears that respectable effort has been put into this movie to make it the most authentic-to-the-original 1954 black and white Godzilla movie yet . The costume , though new ( I would hope ) does bear a resemblance to the 1954 design , as opposed to the various designs which Godzilla has gone through over the years ( several redesigns / costume changes in the 60 ' s and 70 ' s . . . . followed by mainly one new design for the 90 ' s Godzilla series . . . and now the 2000 design ) . The flame breath also has some authenticity to the cheesy smokey effect of the 1954 ' s Godzilla , but is way more visually impressive and destructive . About the only gripes one could have with this movie are 1 ) the cheesy plotline regarding 3 mythical saint monsters who are destined to combat Godzilla , and 2 ) Giant Monsters All-Out Attack does NOT describe what this movie is about . There are 4 monsters in this movie , but quite a few Godzilla movies in the past featured just as many monsters without being called Giant Monster Battle or anything similar . This movie is really just Godzilla vs King Ghidorah IV and that's it . Past clashes between G and Ghidorah have all involved at least 3 to 4 monsters as well , and this one is no different . It's not the monsterfest that the title suggests ( I was hoping for another Destroy All Monsters but this isn't it ) . In fact , the monster battle matchups in this movie ironically mirror that of the original 70 ' s Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla . Once you've seen both you'll see what I mean . All in all , this is a great movie . The directing was great and exciting , and the movie and fight sequences action-packed . Music is also above average for a Godzilla movie . Very well done , and an excellent tribute to the 1954 ' s original Godzilla .
    • 019 4  50 years since the oxigen destroyer killed Godzilla . Or did it ? Thanks to lost souls , he's in his most powerful and most evil form ever ! Casting with good actors and some of my favorite monters .
    • 020 4  Shusuke Kaneko , the director of the superb 1990 ' s trilogy of Gamera movies , finally gets his shot at Godzilla and turns out what might be the best of the whole series . GMK brings Godzilla back to his dark wartime roots , here speculated to be powered by the spirits of the WWII dead . Kaneko does the only thing he can to tell an adult giant monster story and that is to take the material and characters into a more mythic and allegorically charged direction and to make a movie that is thematically strong . He knows that the only way to make these monsters work is for them to actually mean something , unlike the shallow and unfortunate American Godzilla which is the target of a much deserved dig at the beginning of this movie . Although it is undeniably one of the strongest entries in the series ( easily the best of the Shinsei movies ) , it is not without controversy . The Godzilla suit is radically redesigned with a look that , while not exactly based on the 1954 suit , probably matches your impressions of his original appearance , right down to its monochromatic charcoal color and bony dorsal fins . Matching his characterization in this movie , Godzilla looks far more evil than ever before with milky white eyes and huge fangs . That being said , his large square head and potbelly give him a strangely Barney-like appearance . After the relatively svelt G2K suit , this Godzilla is back to looking decidedly pudgy and not quite as life-like . Mothra comes off a lot better here , and this maybe the first time where she flies in a somewhat lifelike way ( such a relief after the horrible flying effects in Godzilla vs . Megaguirus ) . Although Mothra plays a familiar role here , the previously evil King Ghidorah is re-imagined as a noble guardian monster and is far smaller and less powerful than we are used to seeing him . This was a little strange and jarring to long time Godzilla fans . The reason for this is that both monsters are last minute switches for Varan and Anguirus , two lesser-known monsters that Kaneko had originally planned to use but the studio didn't feel that they had enough starpower to help carry the movie . This was the most successful and acclaimed of the Shinsei movies , yet strangely Kaneko was not invited to come back for any of the remaining movies . Hopefully when the series relaunches in the next decade , Kaneko will give us another movie . Kaiju movies are not exactly common these days and he's the only working director who has proven himself a master of this weird and difficult little genre .
    • 021 4  This review is from : Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( DVD ) If you've seen some of the other recent GoJi ( my short for Godzilla aka Gojira ) movies , you may be surprised , bewildered and befuddled by the physical appearance of this Godzilla . - - This movie is a retelling of the beginnings of GoJi , right after his first appearance . If you keep this in mind , the whole thing makes sense . The creatures all have a classic design to them . - - All GoJi's foes seem smaller in this version , and that may be by design or me just thinking so . Mothra is smaller , but more beautiful than ever with those fantastic eyes . Ghidora is smaller , and physically less menacing , and in the context of the story , smaller because he's a youngster . Baragon . . . is well , baragon . . . always amusing and strange . - - In this way , GoJi appears classically designed , like Mothra , but enhanced in some way or another . Big G looks like the b / w Gojira . Complete with chubby , bumpy face cheeks , belly , and tail . - - GoJi looks less intimidating than the super spike spined versions , but is so much more brutal and cold hearted , as reflected in his eyes . - - Friend or foe , familiar or strangely classic . . . it's another entertaining Goji movie .

    • 023 4  My 5 year old son has been watching Godilla movies with me for some time now , and this movie recently appeared on cable . I had never seen it before , and WOW - Gozilla ROCKS ! He is certainly more agressive , and with his milky eyes seems far more sinister . Having King Ghidorah as a good guy was a little wierd , but seemed to work OK . The special effects were excellent . The miniature work was above par in comparison to earlier Godzilla movies . And this lizard is MEAN . There are no annoying faries sining songs on miniature Mothras , just an excellent movie overall .
    • 024 4  Despite the creative controls forced by Toho , Shusuke Kaneko delivers a fantastic entry to the Godzilla series , perhaps the best since Biollante in ' 89 . Although there are a few plot elements that could have been better explained , GMK has a strong story and features memorable characters performing some of the most heroic acts since the golden age of the ' 60s . The effects are top notch , with very few cringe moments that often plague tokusatsu eiga . I can only dream of what could have been if Shinji Higuchi was at the spfx director's helm . But that's only a fanboy wish . In the end , while certainly nowhere near the masterpiece that is Gamera 3 , GMK is a slice above the rest of the Godzilla series and we have Kaneko to thank for it . The DVD by Tristar unfortunately suffers from the same minimalist approach as most of their other Godzilla releases . The film presentation is superb ( and it should be . . . the movie was only 3 years old at the time of it's release ) . The 5.1 surround is fantastic and sounds great . The English dub is horrendous as usual , so don't bother listening to it . However , be forewarned : the subtitles on this disc are taken from the English dub and NOT from the original Japanese dialog . Therefore , expect a great deal of loose translations that may confuse you or even give the wrong information . In other words , those often idiotic phrases you will see do not come from the original script . Believe me , the Japanese acting is great and does not suffer from bad dialog ( I've seen this movie with proper subtitles ) . Extras are non-existent , which is a real shame seeing as the R2 release by Toho is filled to the brim with behind the scenes footage and documentaries . Why Tristar doesn't just use those is completely beyond me . In the end , this is a worthwhile release and if you don't care about how they made it ( which is too bad seeing as how suitmation BTS are fantastic to watch . . . more interesting than a bunch of people sitting at a computer rendering effects ) then this is for you . If you are a geek like me and willing to spend a little more money , get a region-free player and buy Toho's disc ( I plan on doing that soon ) .
    • 025 4  I have never been dissapointed in a Godzilla movie ( Godzilla's Revenge was kind of babyish but it was good ) and I'm definetly not gonna start here . This Godzilla movie was about everyone thinking they killed Godzilla ( 1954 Godzilla King Of The Monsters ) with the oxygen destroyer but now Godzilla is back and so is even more monsters . Mothra , King Ghidorah and Baragon . Godzilla is EXTREMELY powerful in this one . Meaner then I've ever seen him . He has white eyes and his nuclear energy blast is so strong . Godzilla's the bad guy in this one and the guardian monsters ( Mothra , King Ghidorah and Baragon ) have come to kill him before he destroys Tokyo . A great Godzilla movie .
    • 026 4  I won't go into an extensive review , nor give away any spoilers . Just a few random thoughts . If you have not seen the film , you still might not want to read further . Over all I would give the film a 7.5 or 8 out of 10 . Some wonderful visual moments . The script is imaginative and performances are good . Mothra is very well done . The downside . . Godzilla's face looks good , but the body is too WAY bulky , and fins seem too small , and he seems to have a beer belly . Ghidorah sometimes looks quite bad and stiff , Some so-so cgi does not help . One plot point especially seemed contrived . The cicumstances that result in the revival of the 3 monsters , Ghidorah , Mothra and Baragon , in such a coincidental manner seemed far fetched and hurt the narative . I thought it would have been better if it became a race against time for humans to find the key to revive the monsters to fight Godzilla , rather than a series of unlikely coincidences that awaken them . Also the idea of Godzilla harboring the spirits of the dead WW2 solders was a weak idea , poorly expressed . The Direction was well done and efficient , and balanced the kaiju and human plots nicely . However , some of the directors decisions came across as weak , such as the sequence of a girl in the hospital bed unable to move as godzilla approaches . What would have been very frightening comes across as alomost comic as godzilla walks by , but then his tail takes out the building . The sequence would have been superior if godzilla just walked straight thru the building , as an unstopable force , rather than the awkward and almost funny wack of a tail that happened . The music was well done , but not up to the soundtrack of the previous film GODZILLA vs MEGAGUIRUS . The ending of the film left me rather cold however , and seemed contrived , and a little like the end of REPTILLICUS . Also some ideas , such as a tail slap that sends Baragon flying are misteps that remind me too much of the AWFUL 70s godzilla films . However . . . all in all . . its the best of the MILLENIUM Godzilla films and a nice step into being a serious Godzilla film
    • 027 4  This movie rocks . The DVD treatment gives this awesome Dai Kaiju film everything it deserves . With the Japanese soundtrack and widescreen presentation , this modern day masterpiece directed by the talented Shusuke Kaneko ( Gamera Trilogy ) stands above every Godzilla film in recent years . Monster action - - better special effects than a Godzilla film deserves - - a coherent plot : What is not to love ? If your only going to buy one Godzilla film from the Shinsei series ( Godzilla films made between 1999 - 2004 ) make it this film . - - - A spolid buy in nearly every conceivable way .
    • 028 4  With this film , Gojira finally stomps his way into the 21st century . This is the Godzilla that hearkens back to the very first incarnation : an unstoppable , malevolent force of nature leaving swaths of radioactive destruction in his wake . The special effects are extremely impressive ( consider what the Toho technicians accomplished here with one tenth of the budget available to the producers of the 1998 american abortion they dared to call ' Godzilla ' ) . In fact , this is a quite capable tool for Gojira apologists attempting to sway non-believers to enter the fold . Gone are the goofy doe-eyed little kids , lame Ultra Man knockoffs and pointless ( usually ' romantic ' ) sublots . This Godzilla STOMPS ASS . If I had any reservations about the film , it would probably be the appearance of Ghidorah the three-headed dragon . How the mighty have fallen - a creature so badass it took the combined might of virtually every monster in the Toho roster to defeat him back in ' Destroy All Monsters ' , is now reduced to looking like a particularly fancy pinata . But this is a minor quibble . This film far surpasses the 90 ' s ' Hesei ' Godzilla series in terms of quality , action and sheer ' awesomeness ' , and as a Godzilla fan since I was knee-high to a zygote , I strongly recommend this movie to fans of Godzilla in particular , and Science-Fiction / Fantasy film fans in general .
    • 029 4  Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah : Giant Monsters All-Out Attack , for all of its updating of the genre of kaiju eiga ( Japanese Giant Monster movies ) with its thrilling special effects , moving story and titantic monster battles , is really an homage to the golden era of these films , the 1960 ' s . GMK is easily the best Godzilla in decades , as it connects modern social commentary with ancient myth in the form of the Yamato Seishu , the Ancient Guardian Beasts of Japan , summoned forth to fight Godzilla , now driven by the souls of the victims of the Pacific War . Horror and humor , irony and great spectacle , so characteristic of this type of film , make GMK one of the best entires in the Godzilla series . Director Shusuke Kaneko , who helmed the Gamera trilogy of the mid-to-late 90 ' s , taking the genre to new heights , brings his unique vision and style of story telling to GMK . Do not expect to find a cheesy monster movie here with unconvincing effects and no plot . GMK will arrest your imagination and take you somewhere you have not been . This is a stunning giant monster film , the best in the series after the original 1954 Gojira . If you are new to the world of kaiju films , this is an excellent place to start . Get this DVD , and watch how the great battles unfold and the fate of Japan hangs in the balance .
    • 031 4  I do have to admit that I have been a big fan of the Godzilla Franchise every since the 70 ' s when the Saturday Marathons for the Showa movies were going strong . Now flash forward nearly 30 years later and we come to the Millenium series . I had heard alot of things about GMK beforehand from people who owned it on Region 2 DVD . At first I was quite put off by pictures of the Kaneko Goji costume . It wasn't so much the pupiless eyes that bothered me , but more the enormous paunch on the creature . I had to admit that he looked to me like Barney having a very bad day . But you know what ? I decided to give this movie a chance and boy was I surprised . I have to say that out of all the Millenium movies , I like GMK alot . It can be to some people slow at the beginning as we are introduced to our main cast of characters . But in order for we the viewer to sympathize with the characters and their plight , the character development is necessary . While the Special FX aren't quite Hollywood quality , for a Rubber Suit Goji movie they are very well done . Also the matting of the miniature sets and the crowd scenes were pretty well integrated . You almost felt like the people fleeing in terror were just dangerously a few hundred feet away from the kaiju when they were battling . One major drawback for me was how embarassingly easy GMK King Ghidorah was defeated not once , not twice but three times in the climactic battle scene as opposed to the nigh invincible Showa Ghidrah . So in short , if you love Goji flicks , you'll love GMK . Oh and according to some subtitles , Kaneko takes a vicious dig at the poorly received American Godzilla aka GINO . I've heard the dubs kind of lessen the bite of the original dialogue though . Can anyone back me up here ?
    • 032 4  Okay this movie is considered by many fans the definitive Godzilla movie the best of the best , I personally don't think it's the greatest nor the worst . It's a great Godzilla movie the SPFX are the best out of any Godzilla movies . What I don't like about it is the pacing is slooooow . It reminds me of Gamera 3 another great kaiju film but one I didn't care for because of the lack of monster action ( but when there was some it was incrediable ) . The plot has something to do with mythical monsters awakening and trying to stop Godzilla from destroying all of japan . Kaneko seems to like to do movies about this as a mythological plot was invovled in Gamera 3 as well . Any way both movies are highly reccomended If you looking for a good monster film then pick this up I think you'll enjoy it but if you like your movies fast paced then this one may bore you . A - film .
    • 033 4  After redefining Gamera for a new generation , writer / director Shusuke Kaneko got his chance to helm a Godzilla film and attempted the same thing . He was , from my view , successful . Yet again , the only movie GMK Giant Monsters All-Out Attack has any connection to is the first . After nearly fifty years Japan is slowly forgetting about the monster that destroyed Tokyo . Too bad , because the spirts that died in the Pacific Conflict ( aka WW2 ) have infested the Big G with a healthy dose of rage . Three ' Holy Beasts ' ( Mothra , former bad guy King Ghidorah , and Baragon ) are brought to life to battle the attacking beast and save Japan . As with his Gamera movies , Kaneko infuses his take on Godzilla with a serious and realistic mood ( although glimpses of humor can be seen ) . He also reinvents the creatures as supernatural beings , which may not sit well with old school purists , but it works within the context of the story , so I cannot hold it against the movie . Kaneko continues to show that he is the rightful heir to the serious minded kaiju movie crown previously worn only by Ishiro Honda . An essential for any Godzilla fan .
    • 034 4  This review is from : Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( DVD ) There's plenty of reviews here and elsewhere that talk about what a fine and unique film this is . If you enjoyed the original Godzilla : KOTM and the G movies of the 60s , odds are you'll really enjoy this one . But the big news is that the GMK and G vs . Megaguirus DVDs represent the first time that those of us in the States have a chance to get legit Region 1 G movies on DVD with features such as original Japanese language ( w / dubtitles , alas ) , widescreen anamorphic format , Japanese and English Dolby Digital 5.1 , and an image quality that rivals ( actually exceeds IMHO ) the original Toho Region 2 release . Big kudos to Sony and CTHE for going further than usual with these releases . The fans appreciate your respect ! Now , for the release of GxMG , if they can go a bit further by adding original trailers , some special features and subtitles that follow the original script a little closer , that'll be heaven for a U.S . G fan ! Happy 50th birthday , Godzilla ! !

    • 036 4  This review is from : Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( DVD ) This is not your typical Godzilla movie . I like what they did with Godzilla , despite the lack of pupils . They made him down right vicious . Fans of Mothera and especially Ghidorah , may be disapointed . The plot takes on a mythical storyline , and is somewhat incoherent . Despite all these complaints , I found this to be a fun movies to watch . I enjoyed this much more than Godzilla Vs Megaguarius and Godilla Vs Mechagodzilla which came out a year after GMK all out attack .

    • 038 4  My third G-film on DVD , this one could've been better . Still containing the credits and Japanese dialouge , there are no special features at all ! ! And the menu is still just a photo of the DVD cover . Pathetic ! ! This is one of the greatest Godzilla movies ever made , by far the best in this new series of films , in my opion matching up to the classics . Sony just isn't putting much effort in these DVDs sad to say . Definately could of used some improvement .
    • 040 4  This film takes place 50 years after when Gojira ( Thats what they call Godzilla In Japan ) set his big radioactive foot on tokeo . I was surprised by the surprise ending . But King Ghidorah a hero ? ! ! Weird . But his heads look like the chinese dragon . Good thing the roar and gold scales were there . The film has a boring part that is about 30 minutes . Just so you don't get bored they stick in little cool parts so you don't fall asleep . The military think they killed Gojira at the end . Even Thou Mothra apeares in this the fairys don't . This was good but if you have to choose between this in Godzilla Final Wars chooses GFW .
    • 042 4  Well , to start off , this is the second restart of the Godzilla series since the previous film , Godzilla vs Megagirus which itself rewrote the Godzilla tale . Both accept only the original Godzilla film while omitting the last numerous entries . Here Godzilla is powered by a collection of ticked off souls bent on destroying Tokyo . Only the Guardian Monsters of Japan's land can stop Godzilla . Baragon promptly gets his butt kicked , which was rather enjoyable for me , since I think Baragon is a stupid monster to begin with ( I found myself cheering Godzilla ) . Mothra is beefed up a bit and deals out some fair damage to Godzilla toward the end of the film , after which Ghidorah ( a good guy ? unforgivable ! ) attacks . The highlight of this film is definately the special effects . They may be the most immpressive of the Toho series . Godzilla's nuclear breath has never looked so cool . . . or powerful ! Their is a magnificent pan shot of Tokyo as Mothra flies through the night that I thought was amazing . This film has a LOT of destruction , something a lot of the Godzilla films lack , but then this is a direct sequel to the original , so not much of a surprise . Godzilla is a bit too pudgy looking , but maybe that's supposed to be muscle . His eyeballs are now a solid white . Since he is filled with dead people , maybe he's supposed to look like a zombie . The score is servicable , but not hugely memorable . A lot of the writing is good ( the dig about Devlin & Emmerich's Godzilla film is humerous ) , but equal portions are bad . One doesn't seem to want to care for the majority of the characters . One thing that bothered me was humor that seemed a bit poorly placed and some that was mean spirited . A lot of soldiers just stand around and get killed for no good reason ( dark humor : as the soldiers march into place when tokyo is evacuated , some teens call out to them Hey ! Good luck ! You know you're all gonna die ! ) . I would suggest parents treat this more as a PG 13 rated film for their kids . Taken as a one-off story , it's not terrible . . . just a bit odd . THE GOOD : monster fights - special effects - the script THE OK : the score THE BAD : why Baragon ? - Why make Ghidorah a good guy ? - the script - mean humor
    • 043 4  While the 1st Gojira movie holds a place as a historically important film and considered the best one , GMK is the most entertaining . And Godzilla here is presented as evil rather than his usual force of nature self . You can see GMK over and over and not get tired of it , a sign of a great movie . And its always fun to watch G roast that overgrown moth ! ! If you dont own a Godzilla movie , buy this one to start a collection . My personal favorite .
    • 044 4  When i first saw this flick , i was blown away ! What an amazing film . Seeing Godzilla as a bad guy rather than a pest was a great way to go with the movie . The plot was very unique for kaiju films . Instead of the typical gov't needs to take care of so and so monster we get something more in the fantasy genre . I'm sure other reviewers have posted the plot , so i'm not going to repeat it . The film was a breath of fresh air into a series that desperately needed it . Who says sequels aren't better than the original films ? !
    • 046 4  This is by far one of the best Godzilla movies I've seen . And I've seen em all and own most all . Yes He's a big rubber suit walking around , but they did a great job of blending it in with real footage , better than any I've seen to date . This one's a kind of a blend of 60 ' s 70 ' s Zilla , goofy rubber guy fighting goofy rubber pigdog , with damn good effects , Very fun . The effects aren't as quality as the big Hollywood letdown , but they're pretty damn good . Besides CG smokesceened in rain and darkness can always look decent . So if you like Zilla . . . . . get it . ( I've seen the later released Zilla VS MechaZilla . . . . . . . Back to low budget and a letdown. They should've let Shusuke Kaneko direct again )
    • 047 4  It is 50 years after the raid of the greatest force on earth . Some think it's all over but some believe the most terrifying thing , Godzilla will return . A reporter for fictional shows meets a strange man that believes that Godzilla will return but three once evil now holy monsters will come with him . This film is one of the best and most serious kaiju films ever seen by human eyes . There may be only two fight scenes but they where worth every penny each second . My favorite thing about this spectacular film is that they have Godzilla the same way as they did in ' 54 ' . Also this Godzilla is hands down one of the best Godzilla looks , personalities , and THE most powerful of the Godzilla . He has intelligence , strength , and most of all , power . It may be a setback that Ghidorah's a good guy , but he looks awsome ( especially Baragon ) .
    • 048 4  This is the best Godzilla film to have come down the pipe in a long time ! I watched it in awe and with the enthusiasm I had watching past Godzilla films as a child ! The special efects are outstanding , including the big guy's facial expressions ! The battle scenes are excellent as well as numerous ! This movie , although set in present day , is more or less a sequel to the original Godzilla movie and one must set aside all the other movies to follow the flow . Godzilla makes his return as the bad guy wreaking destruction upon Japan until Bargon , Mothra , King Ghidorah and the millitary rise to beat him down ! Watch for the intense power from Godzilla's breath weapon , it is to die for ! ! ! This is Godzilla at his best , a must have for any Godzilla collector ! Athough there is still some cheeze , I give this film 5 stars ! ! ! ENJOY ! ! !
    • 049 4  This Godzilla is exactly what Montser movies should be in the 2000 ' s . Great animation and great fight scenes ! Sadly the DVD is not so good so I take out 1 star .
    • 050 4  Although this DVD has dubtitles , meaning the subtitles are based on the English language dubbing and not the original Japanese language translation , this dvd is a major improvement over previous releases . First of all , the quality of the dubbing is improved over previous releases , the original Japanese soundtrack is included ( for us true G-fans ) , and the special effects far surpass those of campy Godzilla releases past . The same applies to the new release Godzilla vs . Megaguirus . The difference is GMK brings back the darkness and spirit of the original Gojira from 1954 . This is a must see for anyone who likes Godzilla ( or doesn't ) and shows what true scifi really is . Let's hope that their next time out , with Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla , Sony-TriStar introduces true subtitles instead of dubtitles . This is the only improvement they could make over over this new release . Three cheers for a near perfect try . Let's perfect it next time out . A highly recommended release . - Michael Ditkowsky
    • 051 4  This review is from : Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( DVD ) A reasonably good movie as posted previously . I would like to say , that the remastered US release has an excellent picture and good sound . This is a * much * sharper picture than the imported version .

    • 053 4  The Big Guy is back in all his glory.I have always been a tremendous Godzilla fan and when I saw this movie it blew me away.I saw Godzilla 2000 at the theaters and loved it .2000 was a great comeback for the Big G and it led him into a whole new series of movies. This movie was great even though I don't think the big King Ghidorah should be a good guy. He's the King of Terror for crying out loud.I also was a little upset Godzilla was a bad guy.Even though he looked great and played his role very well.He also finally gets Mothra YES ! Sorry to all the Mothra fans It's just Mothra was never one of my favorite monsters.Over all it's a great Godzilla movie.A MUST buy for any true Godzilla fan. Also Godzilla vs.Megaguiras.LONG LIVE THE KING .
    • 054 4  The movie isnt even out and im so amped up . I first saw this movie about a year ago and its proly one of the best godzilla movies i have ever seen . Throwing all other story lines out the window the three opposing monsters ( mothra baragon and King ghidorah ) are protecters of the world . Big G sports a new look which is so awsome proly the best looking suit since destroyer . I odnt want to ruin the story for anyone who hasnt seen it yet but the battle scenes are gret especially the last one with motra and king ghidorah . get this DVD when it is finally released
    • 055 4  I recorded this movie off the sci-fi Channel and all I have to say is that this is one of the best Godzilla movies ever ( Godzilla vs . The Csmic Monster is the best . I liked all of the monsters in this movie . The battle scenes were great .
    • 057 4  Some of the reviews state that there is no cheese factor in here and they would be wrong . Any movie where there is someone in a rubber monster suit duking it out w / someone else in a rubber suit will ALWAYS be cheesy . But hey if you're a Godzilla fan you expect this cheese . Once you get past that this is one of the more serious of all the Godzilla films and by far one of the more superior films . I have been a a huge G fan for over 25 yrs . and really appreciated the Godzilla suit in this film . Don't listen to the critics saying he has a beer belly-remember folks it's a rubber suit ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! This is the most sinister the big G has ever looked-hands down ! ! His eyes are without pupils and are a pale white . He looks absolutely malevolent and his spines are the old school way , not to say that the suit since Godzilla 2000 was bad because in fact those revamped jagged / pointed spines are the best ! His atomic breath is so damn powerful they show a mushroom cloud at one point-it rules . I don't want to spoil it for you , but will give a few glimpses into the movie . The guardian monsters who are called upon to help Tokyo out are Baragon , Mothra and King Ghidorah . Baragon is revamped from the ' 60 ' s look . He is awesome . Has a great growl and fights w / a passion . Mothra is CG in some scenes but looks great . My only problem in the movie is the past Godzilla movies are basically ignored . I loved the continuity of Godzilla vs . Biollante all the way up to Destroyer . Of any of the movies / series for his 50 yr . existence that was done the best . So when they make Ghidorah a good guy in this I can't help but wonder , hey is this not the same monster who Mothra talked Rodan and Godzilla into helping her fight in Ghidra the three headed monster ? Also Ghidorah's trademark roar / growl that was such a strange high alien like noise is missing from the movie . The new growl is basically nothing special . Ghidorah still has some good scenes in this movie , but overall a disappointing change for one of the best monsters in the G series . Onto a little more of the film . Godzilla is the most powerful in this movie that he has ever been . He dominates the battles and his brute force in this movie is how TOHO are making him for his upcoming demise in Godzilla : Final Wars , coming out in winter 2004 . Overall I had to give this a 5 for the killer battle scenes and the fact that Godzilla is pure power in this and is relentless . The special effects and miniature set pieces are great looking in this film . This is a must have for any serious Godzilla fan ! ! !
    • 058 4  Well ok , you have to be a Godzilla fan to give this five stars but now we've got that out of the way let me tell you why this is such a great addition to the Godzilla ' canon ' . Lots of little reasons . Firstly , the sub-plot is one of the better ones , not overtly absurd and its decently acted . Godzilla looks brilliant , mean and nasty and he's very powerful , the eyes especially are menacing and the rubber suit is the best you can do with a rubber suit to be blunt . The balance of action vs sub-plot is well struck . The atomic breath looks more radioactive than usual . There are some terrific personalised moments ; memorably the scene with the girl in the hospital as Godzilla passes by . I won't ruin the moment if you've not seen it . The image of the pulsing heart . The graphic scenes of people dying add to the sense of reality that helps a movie about a colossal lizard . Godzilla's swimming scene clearly borrows from the US version - not a criticism . And something I find very touching in these movies , the ' life-force ' when a monster dies gets re-distributed and aids another . . . very sweet and you'd rather like to think life and death for us humans was like that , wouldn't you ? There are some things that made me chuckle . The cheerful line that I used to title this review is spoken as a sort of encouragement to the Japanese soliders by a civilian . . . you have to hand it to the Japs they do some corkingly duff one-liners . The admiral's daughter is even more indestructible than Godzilla . And Baragon is far too cute to be menacing and they must have a furry version of him it would be a best seller ! And I didn't even tell you what it was about ! It's a cracker . If you like the Godzilla franchise you'll love this . One of the best .
    • 059 4  Bad @ ss flick . Special effects awesome , story good , Godzilla looks awesome . Whos idea was it to make Ghidora a good guy ! ? Ghidora rules evil . They should have let Baragon keep his flame blast . He might have lasted longer against Godzilla . Anyway , movie awesome for anyone , unless u are obsessed with the cheesy old ones ( which some are so stupid they are funny as Hell ) . This movie rises above the opposition ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
    • 060 4  Mr . Shusuke Kaneko has always wanted to direct a Godzilla film . Well , folks he finally got his chance . Widely acclaimed by fans as the best film of the series since the original ( of course ) , this movie takes a darker look at Godzilla and adds several mystical elements . Such as : Godzilla has been possesed by the forgotten dead of WWII , and three holy monsters are summoned to stop him . Sounds good so far ? Right ? Well , it gets better . The cheesy special effects that often plague a kaiju film are done away with and we are given beautiful CGI effects and magnifecent explosions . Thye acting is great and is easily as good as anything Hollywood can cook up ( that's right you heard me ) . The monsters in this film are amazingly well done . Baragon is revamped and is given a great tooth and claw battle with the big G himself . Mothra is given an agile body and beautiful wing movements . Godzilla is given a horribly evil look and very white eyes . And , well Ghidorah is given plastic looking heads and stumpy wings , well nothings perfect . All in all this is a very good film that should not be passed up . So go and buy a legitamate copy , a liter of coke , three bags of popcorn and let the good times roll .
    • 061 4  Cool ! This movie is too cool . Godzilla looks very mean with those white ugly eyes . And he's got the strongest fire ever and the music really fits the movie . Mothra looks nice , and even Baragon is in it . King Ghidorah looks like a real dragon . I'm really pleased with this movie .

    • 064 4  This review is from : Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( DVD ) Nearly fifty years after the first Godzilla laid waste to Tokyo , a new one rises from the sea - - not merely a rampaging , radioactive prehistoric horror , but a demon animated by the souls of those killed in the Pacific during World War II . Three guardian monsters from ancient legend - - Baragon , Mothra , and King Ghidorah - - appear and engage Godzilla in battle , intent on saving Japan from total devastation . This 2001 entry in the Godzilla series is easily the most controversial of his films ; it is either panned or praised , with few taking the middle ground . Godzilla's revised origin - - as the manifestation of angry human spirits - - departs from his traditional science fiction roots and follows the fantasy-oriented path director Shuseke Kaneko introduced in his three Heisei-era Gamera films . While some approve of Kaneko's reworking of the Godzilla mythos , the fantasy story unfolds clumsily , and lacks the development that such a drastic new approach requires to succeed . Godzilla himself appears strikingly different than ever before , with pure white eyes to accent his villainous character . However , the flabby and rather ungainly suit often comes off as more comical than menacing . And the inclusion of an anemic-looking King Ghidorah - - traditionally the most evil kaiju in the Toho universe - - as one of mankind's benefactors falls on its face . GMK features some excellent visuals as well as a unique electronic score by Kow Otani , which perfectly augments each scene . The human drama is a tad more engaging than in most of the Millennium series , so even with its shortcomings , the film manages to be entertaining .

    • 067 4  Giant Monsters All Out Attack is a great movie visually , the Japanese scenery looks great , the special effects are some of the best in the series , and the film features 4 classic monsters ; Godzilla , Mothra , Ghidorah & Baragon . It really does look like Toho pulled out all the stops for this 2001 release . Unfortunately , while All Out Attack looks good , the story is basically an incoherant mess . There is something here about Godzilla containing the souls of dead World War II soldiers , and then Mothra , Ghidorah ( as a good guy ? ? ! ! ! ! ) and Baragon are Japan's protectors . . . but not protectors of the people or cities . . simply protectors of the land and rivers of Japan . . . meaning they are more than happy to flatten their fair share of city real estate and stomp folks into the mud too . Somehow this is all tied in with ancient prophecy and little stone snowmen scattered around the country . . . . don't ask . . . just hang on until the fight scenes start . There are several interesting ideas introduced in the film , but none of which are carried out . In the opening scenes it seems that the protector monsters begin targeting anyone who has forgotten the old ways and traditions . . . a motorcycle gang harrassing motorists , or a group of kids who break into a store and want to drown the proprieters dog . I thought that was a cool idea for why the monsters return . . . but they seem to abandon that premise and go with the whole Godzilla is the harbinger of dead soldier wrath instead . I'm happy to add this film to my collection , I have a feeling this may be a movie that upon re-watching I find much more enjoyable . Maybe I had too high expectations . . . and maybe on a second viewing I can relate to Ghidorah being a good guy . Until then let my just say this DVD is worth picking for the scene where the girl is in the hospital room watching Godzilla approach . There is a genuine dark humor running through this film , and that scene steals the film for me .
    • 068 4  I would rate this as one of Godzilla's finest showings . His sullen white eyes seem to mesmerize one . . . Literally the use of modern technology has produced a serious wrecking machine . In essense , this would be the Oscar performance of the big guy . I've watched this time and time again . . . always appreciating the plot & production .
    • 069 4  Let's get one thing straight . GMK is the best Godzilla flick since Destroy All Monsters . No , It's not perfect , but It's highly original , well developed , emotional , and entertaining ! The reason I am writing this review , however , is to tell everyone that this DVD is very underwhelming . While the picture and audio are outstanding , the subtitles are just based off of the dub and there are no extras . So what's the problem with dubtitles you ask ? Well nothing , except for the fact that every serious moment is ruined in this film due to a sloppy rewrite of the script by the dubbers . Godzilla fans had to wait years for this film and Tristar didn't even bother hiring someone that spoke Japanese ? I call that lazy . Maybe fans should petition for a new DVD with accurate sub's . As a side note I will tell you that every other Tristar Godzilla DVD except for GxMG has dubtitles as well . SAD ! ! ! Common , how about a petition ?
    • 070 4  I saw this in the theaters in Japan ! I was blown away at how magnificent the portryal of Godzilla is in this film . And the special affects were superb for a Godzilla film . Now I own this on DVD and it is well worth it . The director of this film took Godzilla into his own hands and did very well . Plain and simple , this is an enjoyable film . If you like monster movies , you'll enjoy it . If you enjoy sci-fi flicks you'll enjoy it . And certainly if you enjoy Godzilla , then you will enjoy it . This incarnation of Godzilla clearly proves that Godzilla is mean , fierce and would destroy King Kong in a fight . Highly Recommended viewing ( for OPEN-MINDED audiences only )
    • 071 4  This movie is the greatest and the biggest box office success . I really love the new and improved roars made for Baragon and King Ghidorah ( espcially King Ghidorah's roar ) . I don't like the way they had designed Mothra . I think they gotten the idea from the armored mothra in the third movie of the Rebirth Of Mothra series . I wish they could have put in Rainbow Mothra instead of the same old fashion Mothra from 1964 . If it were Rainbow Mothra playing in this movie it would have seemed more interesting . But every Godzilla fan would probably perfer the plain old same Mothra . I really love how they improved Ghidorah's look . He seems more like a god in this movie . But in the 1960s through the 1970s , King Ghidorah was just plain ugly . In Destory All Monsters they give you a really good close up on one of the heads . The Ghidorah costumes from the 90s were outstanding ! ! ! espcially the one from the Mothra series ( Rebirth Of Mothra 3 ) . King Ghidorah looked more like an evil king . But in this one he is more god looking to me * ^ _ ^ * .
    • 072 4  I thought this was a very good offering from the 2000 series of Godzilla movies . Godzilla has no eyeballs in this and is totally evil in this fighting Baragon , Ghidorah and Mothra . It has nothing to do with Godzilla continuity , sort of an alternate fantasy universe Godzilla . It was more of a fantasy movie than a giant monster kaiju film . Ghidorah never looked worse in this . Baragon looked good as did Mothra . This was better than Godzilla Final Wars by far . The DVD is widescreen , commendable English dubbing . Worth seeing and owning .
    • 073 4  I enojoyed this movie a lot . I thought that it was really good and did a good job of portraying Godzilla as engine of destruction . If you are a Godzilla fan and want to catch one you have never seen before this is the one for you .
    • 074 4  Everything about this movie was totally incredible ! By far one of the best godzilla's movie ever . You are not a G-fan if you don't own this movie ! BUY IT ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
    • 075 4  This is by far the best of the Millennial series . The director has an eye for the dramatic , like when Godzilla stops as the woman screams and then starts charging up for an atomic blast-then the camera cuts away to a school and all of a sudden it's like a training film for nuclear war from the 50 ' s . Some don't like how this Godzilla movie has a mystical plot with Godzilla being a manifestation of the people that Japan killed in WWII . This may at first seem a discrepancy , but for me it's closer to the original than any previous Godzilla film because like the original , this Godzilla means something . Japan has a bad habit of forgetting the bad things they did and this Godzilla is about revenge . That is why this Godzilla is all bad , it's pure rage . Now for me , that makes it second only to Gojira . ( not the lame chopped up American cut )
    • 076 4  How does one rate this film ? It was good , but it was bad . Good first : Baragon ! The most underplayed , greatest monster that Toho never bothers to put in their movies . . . Baragon ! It's always sad to get him stomped , but I was very happy that they included him in this . His color's changed a bit since the ' 60s , but I can't express how good it was to see him biting Godzilla's arm . King Ghidorah was very visually impressive , even though he's a good guy ( how strange ) and he's got pretty limited screen time ( more on that later ) . Likewise , Mothra is also very good looking . That just leaves us with the big G-man . Not my favorite costume by any means , but he looks fearsome . His breath effects are particularly great in this movie . The audio is good . You may choose between subtitles or dubbing , which is great , because I'm very tired of folks completely berating a movie for being dubbed or subtitled . So , the option is there . The music , despite its weird , electronic feel , is very good . This movie also brings into it some interesting scenes . The man trying to use the bathroom with Godzilla stomping outside , and the woman in the hospital-bed meeting Godzilla are particularly memorable . The bad : The graphics are bearable , but , like many of the other millennium Godzilla movies , the CG takes away from the heart of the movie and makes it feel like a Sci-Fi Channel original series . ( Folks who have seen one will instantly know what I'm talking about ) . It seems to lack the heart and imagination that some of the Shõwa and Heisei offerings had . Also like others from the Millennium ( X ) series , the title sequence is greyed over so you can barely see the - really - cool looking title effect and are greeted with a grey-and-white very drab English title card . The story is a complete miss . It gets interesting at some points , but , at others , it falls short . Some mystic man says that Godzilla is controlled by souls of the pacific conflict . It's a good idea . But then they ignore it for the rest of the movie . Nothing backs it up except just some crazy old disappearing man and a wonky obscure book that every character seems to have read from their local library . Also , if Godzilla is angry about some conflict that happened sixty years ago , the movie should have a darker tone , and perhaps take a more human approach . Even Godzilla vs . Hedorah managed to show some gore and injuries . The monster's viewing time is , sadly , minimal . Baragon dies way to early and none of the monsters are given their proper treatment . Mothra looks strange . It's the only movie where the markings on her wing have changed . Her legs are more insect like , which is enjoyable , but the rest of her alterations are jarring . Also , she is missing her fairies . The true crime is how many times this Godzilla film breaks away from canon and makes stuff up . As with all but three of the Millennium Godzilla movies , the movie is meant to stand alone . No prior knowledge of Godzilla is required . With this in mind , as a standalone movie , it's pretty solid . However , for a Godzilla fan , this is annoying more than all the pathetic CGI , ho-hum story , and written-over title sequence combined . With the Godzilla canon in mind , the original film called for Baragon , Anguirus , and Varan . This would have been MUCH better than Mothra and King Ghidorah . The latter didn't make any sense here , and Anguirus ( beside Final Wars ) and Varan haven't gotten ANY screen time since the 60 ' s . They're also all quadrupeds and make more sense as guardians of the Earth . I might even swap out Anguirus ( Godzilla's old friend ) for Gorosaurus , who we haven't seen for quite a while . * * * SPOILER * * * Close your eyes . The three guardian monsters all die ( rather quickly , as a matter of fact ) , in a fiery CG flame . All of them , even Mothra and King Ghidorah together , can't beat Godzilla . But one lone man in his crappy sub can blast a whole through his hide from the inside causing him to kill himself . It's rather upsetting . * * * End spoiler * * * So , it's an alright Godzilla movie that left me with very mixed feelings . I enjoyed seeing Baragon again , and [ King ] Ghidorah looked great with all his CG beauty . However , Mothra and King Ghidorah shouldn't have really been there in the first place .
    • 077 4  I love Godzilla . That being said , I know these monster movies are silly at best , boring at worst . Monsters All Out Attack isn't one of the boring ones . The special effects are quite good in this film , ( as far as giant Toho monster movies are concerned ) , unless you don't want to know there is a guy in the rubber suit . To a casual viewer it would no doubt seem odd that the cgi and other effects in these films hold up rather well only to have the monster show up and be jarringly low-tech . Ie : a guy in a rubber suit . But that's the way I want my Godzilla films to be . I don't need to convey to the true fans how lame the Hollywoodized version of the big green guy was ! Of special note , Godzilla's radioactive breath has never been done as convincingly cool as what is done in this version of the giant lizard ! Baragon shows up first and is something of a cross between Khan's Ceti Alpha eel and a humoungus red pig . Hence the title of my review lifted from an actual line of dialog in the film . Then of course Mothera and Ghidora show up to save humanity from Godzilla . Convenient since the Japanese military never learns that weapons won't stop him . Yuri , the main actor of this movie is a Lois Lane type who puts herself in grave danger to film the monsters battle and to keep the audience involved as the story progresses to the eventual distruction of Godzilla . I use the term loosely as Godzilla can not be destroyed . I won't give away how I know Godzilla is not dead at the end of this movie for those who have not yet seen it , but I'll just say it is a heart-wrenching ending ! All Out Monsters Attack is a well scripted Godzilla film with many scenes of good humor . I especially love the scene with the girl who survives the stomping of her family and home by big G only to buy it when Godzilla swipes her hospital room with his tail ! Great stuff , there ! I recommend viewing this DVD in Japanese with English subtitles to apprieciate it to it's fullest . It makes much more sense and the drama of events as they unfold are more believable and intense that way . Ultimately if you aren't a fan of giant monster movies stay away . But if you're like me who has loved and watched Godzilla movies all my life , this ones for you .
    • 078 4  This review is from : Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( DVD ) Well closer to a 4.7 / 5 but still i have never seen Godzilla this mean . He is driven by a the force of the souls ofall who died during the war . Anyway great action , great fun and a delight to watch . Quite a improvement on other movies before 2000 . Wait till you see his eyes . . . . . . . . . .

    • 081 4  Terrific Godzilla movie . An original storyline , thanks to the flexibility of the Shinsei series . Decent special effects , especially for a Kaiju movie . And the most evil-looking , powerful and unstoppable Godzilla ever . The soundtrack is adequate , though I miss the days of Akira Ifukube . Some don't like this movie because of its originality , but personnally I love Godzilla one way or another : good , bad , all the same or different . Anyway , along with the original and Godzilla vs Destoroyah , this is truly a high point in the series . Belz . . .
    • 082 4  Hey , I'm not complaining . This is the best piece of rubber-suit mayhem to cross over the pond in at least ten years . Hey , it's not as socially relevant as Gojira or as downright fun as Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla , but it's better than Godzilla 2000 and certainly better than that piece of expensive computer-generated garbage that ( sane ) men call Fraudzilla . And maybe they didn't keep Varan and Angilas , but at least they dropped Ourga and Matthew Broderick . Lets hope this is the Sean Connery of Godzilla films , here to rip the franchise out of the Lazenbine hands of the past .
    • 083 4  I own the Region 2 and Region 3 versions of this movie and have watched each dvd at least 10 times . It has everything you want from a Godzilla movie , lots of destruction , excellent monster battles , the best special effects , the coolest and darkest music , and most of all , Godzilla returns to his roots as a force of destruction . This is also the first movie where I actually cared for what was going to happen with the human characters . Back to Godzilla , his suit is definitely the best I have ever seen , and matches his power . I give the movie a 5 / 5 . As for the DVD , well , you get the English Dubbed version , along with the original Japanese language . Unfortunately the subtitles are actually dubtitles , so they follow the dialog from the dub rather than the Japanese translations , so there are a lot of lines that are messed up . Still , if you cannot get the R2 or R3 dvd , this is definitely a must buy .
    • 084 4  I've been waiting for far too long for the new Godzilla movies to be imported from Japan , but now they're almost here , and having seen All-Out Attack on tv recently , all I can say is that this is undoubtedly one of the best G-flicks in the past decade . Going like an alternate universe storyline ( new director , new universe ) , the story picks up 50 years after Godzilla : King of the Monsters . The original Godzilla was destroyed by the Oxygen Destroyer , but a new Godzilla has emerged from the depths to once more wreak havoc on Tokyo . Now , the spirits of 3 guardian monsters must be awoken to defeat Godzilla : Mothra , Baragon , and the venerable King Ghidorah . This movie was every entertaining . It was considerably less cheesy than any of the more recent godzilla flicks , and the retro 1950 ' s look for Godzilla is not only menacing , but is probably the best design ever conceived for Godzilla . The special effects were outstanding , and the story was decent and easy to follow . The only problem I had with this movie is what another reviewer has pointed out : King Ghidorah a good monster ? Sorry , but that would be like making Skeletor the hero and making him fight other bad guys . King Ghidorah has always been the embodiment of pure evil , and of all the Toho ' kaiju ' , Ghidorah has never changed until now . To have a good King Ghidorah is very strange , and I think it was a bad , bad move to make him a good kaiju . Nevertheless , Ghidorah's look in this film is better than ever . I thoroughly enjoyd this Godzilla flick and look forward to the new Godzilla vs . Mecha-Godzilla movies , which are shaping up to be the best of the bunch . The bottom-line is that in all my 21 years , and of the many , many Godzilla flicks i've seen , ' All-Out Attack ' stands out as one of the best , if not THE best G-flick since the 1954 original .
    • 085 4  The big G is back and fatter than ever . The story is different in this movie , and I'm annoyed how they just push all the other godzilla movies out of the way . The three monsters who fight Godzilla , who are called Guardian monsters , are called Beragon , the newcomer , Mothra , the peacemaker and Ghidorah , the villian that has now turned hero . Godzilla's cool , his attitude being one of the crappiest I've ever seen , but they make him way too fat in this movie ; and he's walks too upright to me . I think it's good , and Godzilla has done it again .
    • 086 4  Watch as Godzilla kills EVERYONE ! The Big Bad-ass Dinosaur is back to kill Mothra ! Baragon ! and King Ghidorah ! Prepare for the Armageddon of the Monsters !
    • 087 4  When I first heard that GMK was going to have a fantasy / mythological story to it , I was skeptical as to if it would work . But it shows it can work here ! The movie is full of monster action that is sure to please monster fans ! The human drama is pretty well done also . This would get 5 stars if the monster action were longer than it is .
    • 088 4  This was easily the best Godzilla movie I have ever seen . The scene where Mothra takes a point blank shot from Godzilla was awesome .
    • 089 4  For true G-fans , this is a MUST OWN DVD ! 4 Monsters for the price of 1 . Godzilla , Mothra , Baragon & Ghidorah kick butt ! The action is well paced , the monster battle scenes are great , the special effects have improved ( check out the new mothra ) however , THIS Godzilla is nasty . THIS Godzilla kills people . Yeah ! Flatenning & squishing is BACK in the house . If you have a home theater system , CRANK IT UP & enjoy dolby digital 5.1 sound . Kudos to Columbia Tri-Star video for releasing this soon to be Kaiju classic as well as giving fans the option to enjoy it in English or Japanese w / subtitles ! Looking forward to the upcoming Godzilla vs . Mechagodzilla .
    • 090 4  GMK is one of my favorite Godzilla movies ; you gotta love the battle scene between the Big G and Baragon . The DVD presentation of this film is very nicely done ; the picture is sharp with great color . The 5.0 surround sound ( in Japanese ! ) is a welcome feature , too . However , this disc seriously lacks any cool extras . Not even a theatrical trailer for GMK is included . Plus I think the art on the packaging is somewhat cheap looking . For just the film itslef , this DVD is well done , however , for those of you who enjoy all the extras the DVD format has to offer , prepare to be dissapointed .
    • 091 4  This review is from : Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( DVD ) Why is it disturbing ? Well , there's just some things that seem WRONG when you see them , and to me , one of those things is . . . King Ghidora , Hero . Ghidora , in EVERY prior incarnation , has always been the living symbol of evil destruction . He is , in fact , the ONLY one of the great Kaiju ( monsters ) in Toho's films that I can recall being actively and directly portrayed as evil normally in multiple incarnations . Seeing him as one of the Great Defenders of Japan gives me major cognitive dissonance . It doesn't help that this is ALSO the first time we see Gojira himself as directly malevolent . Until this point , Gojira / Godzilla has been one of two things : either a pure force of nature , neither hostile nor benevolent , or else a basically peaceable creature who just gets dragged into fights because of its nature and location , possibly even somewhat benevolent on the grand scale of things . In this film , abbreviated by fans as GMK , he's a walking atomic revenant , a vengeful vehicle of spiritual anger . Creepy . I won't go into details of the plot - - other reviewers have clearly done that for me . Overall , the visuals are good with some minor glitches . I find the plot a bit stretched in places - - there's a bit more pull this out of my nether regions invention than is quite palatable for me , in terms of how we resolve everything . However , it's still a fun watch overall and definitely worth the time for any Kaiju fan .

    • 093 4  As you probably know Shusuke Kaneko ( the man who directed the Gamera trilogy ) also directed Gmk , short for Godzilla Mothra King Ghidorah Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ! But how does it stack-up against previous Godzilla movies and the 90 ' s Gameras ? Well the special effects are supirior to the previous Godzillas and to the first 2 heisei gameras but not as good as Gamera 3 . The story and acting are excellent . The designs for Godzilla , Mothra , and Baragon are fantasic , although King Ghidorah was a total dissapointment . Not only does his design suck but he's a good guy ! King Ghidorah should never be the good guy ! One of the things I absolutly love about this movie are the monster battles . Gamera 3 had wonderful battles but , they were just to short . GMK's were not . These are some of the best battles ever ! I can watch them over and over again and not get tired of them . This movie is a somewhat suspenseful one . This is because for the first 30 min . you only get glimpses of the monsters . The music is also extremly good . I have to say this is most certainly one of the best movies I've ever seen !
    • 094 4  my youngest son has always had a thing for Godzilla ! ! ! Product was in excellent shape and my son is happy ! ! ! Thanks so much ! also arrived on time ! THANKS !
    • 095 4  godzilla , has more then , just power , godzilla has , a fast reflex in this movie , godzilla , is almost , on stopable .
    • 096 4  My four year old is so in love with Godzilla . He fell in love with this creature about a year ago . We currently live in Japan so finding toys over here are easy and great , but all the movies are in Japanese , and this was a good one .
    • 097 4  I am a diehard fan of the new movies and enjoyed this one , but was a little disappointed in the Godzilla suit used . I like the one from the previous two films better . This one just seemed a little fake looking and his head waggled around a little too much . King Ghidora was a little disappointing too . He looked a little goofy and his wings were so much smaller and they barely flapped . Although the Baragon monster was great . The action in the movie was also very good .
    • 098 4  When I first read the reviews for GMK I was expecting it to be more like the recent Gamera movies that came before this , because it was directed by the same person , but it's totally different . This is probably the serious Godzilla of the millenium series and is the only Godzilla movie to feature King Ghidorah as a good guy . There really is nothing to say but watching this movie was great . The kaiju battles are good , the main characters are interesting , and the effects were good . 5 out of 5
    • 099 4  without a doubt the best godzilla movie in the new series. Its been nearly 50 years since godzilla attacked and its up to the gurdian have to destroy him .
    • 100 4  Put Together 4 Monsters And What Have You Got ? All Hell Breaking Loose Godzilla Mothra King Ghidora And Baragon This Movie Was Indeed Pretty Awesome Hope They Make Another One Like This Soon
    • 102 4  This review is from : Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( DVD ) This film re-imagined our favorite monsters in a way that I found most irritating . New-agey hoo-haa was substituted for substance . Not only did the monsters have to carry on the guilt of Japanese actions in the Pacific during WW2 , they also had to carry the anger of the victims of the war . The portrayal of Godzilla as evil made this more of a Mothra-as-hero movie than a Godzilla movie . My 10 year old daughter kept asking me why Godzilla didn't have eyes ( they are white throughout this film ) and I told her that maybe they were going for a ZombieGodzilla look . Honestly , why does Toho have to mess with a perfectly good formula ? ? ? What happened to Coke when they tried reinventing the taste that has stood them in good stead for almost 100 years ? I found Final Wars to be vastly superior to this one .

    • 104 4  Fair effects , uneven script , bland characters , corny acting ; of course , that could apply to any of the Millennium films in this series . Unfortunately , GMK wants to be a more serious affair by imbuing the plot with mystical elements and sociological commentary on Japan's human rights abuses during WW2 . In this film , Godzilla is driven by the souls of WW2 vets who are angry with Japan . To counter Godzilla , three guardian monsters are prophesized to protect the nation : Mothra , Bragaon , and Ghidorah . Unfortunately , this intriguing premise does not live up to its potential . One problem is the script . The concept of the souls of angry vets controlling Godzilla is never explored , nor is the film's accusation of Japan wanting to forget the crimes of WW2 . There are also severe lapses in logic : the film portrays people as believing Godzilla is just a legend , despite the fact that it's well-known that he destroyed Tokyo in 1954 ; huh ? Did everyone in Japan suddenly get amnesia ? In addition , how can three guardian monsters be so powerless against Godzilla while a guy in a tiny submarine can pretty much destroy him ? The characters are nothing to write home about ; there's a general and his daughter , who is a reporter , and they have a strained relationship . That's pretty much it . We don't get any of the human complexity that we saw in the Heisei films . Another problem is the effects ; they range from fantastic , such as the miniatures and explosions , to awful , like everything else . The suits used in GMK look incredibly rubbery and lifeless , with seams and attach points that are visible in almost every scene . The CGI Ghidorah is laughable , and the overlong underwater sequence at the end looks terrible . The final nail in the film's coffin is the overly comedic performances by much of the supporting cast . I'm not sure why this film is so well-liked . Compared to Gojira and most of the Heisei films , GMK is simply not that good . Perhaps it could have been , if Toho had given Kaneko a higher budget and allowed him to film it with Varan and Angilas instead of Mothra and Ghidorah ( how many times do we have to see the same two enemies over and over ? ) , but unfortunately this never happened . What we have here is clearly the best of the Millennium Series , but still a mediocre Godzilla film .
    • 105 4  Arrived in less than a week and its in neer perfect condition . I give it 5 stars
    • 106 4  Though people may rate this movie hard but ThaboyK have to give this a 4 because of Baragon.Baragon we see in some kajiu films but not enough makes his entry as guardian to defeat godzilla but fall shortly as he got his tail whop bad and blast alive. The monster suits was very good except godzilla and King Gidorah.I dont know but was it me or im just seeing things. It seems my man G been on a island drinking beer explaing that Bear Belly.Whats up with those eyes G ? King Gidorah was pretty cool but look kinda goffy and small.Mothra and Baragon suits were cool i really dont have to make a comment on those two.The storyline was alright but the whole spirits of the pacific was kinda lame.As for the monster action was very well done and very entertaining.Sadlly to say all three monster got there butts whip bad with ease. The actors was pretty good not really that annyoying but well spoken in a lot of seens. But overall this is a must see just because the whole monster brawl.King Gidorah a guardian sounds instresting !
    • 107 4  Honestly , I am starting to feel bad for the big green G . In the past 3 movies that have just come out , Godzilla has been killed off in some sorta form or gruesome way . I mean , how many times you gonna kill him off and make him magically re-appear . Poor guy , gotta lay the smack down on 1 to 3 monsters per film and either gets incinerated , vaporized , or imploded in the end . I loved the film , traditional monster brawlfest , though I have been noticing how shorter the battles are now in the new movies . I mean , mothra in the last film GMK got vaporized without a thought and same with King Ghidora . In the old flicks , they tore up half of Japan whipping the crap outta each other and taking artillery barrages from the army through the whole movie . My final word , they did good , could have done better . Don't sacrifice old school whoop ass Godzilla for the new school CGI / remixed . . enemies blasted in 2 seconds . . euthanizing big G every movie . Let him live , give the big guy a break . Hope they don't kill him off again in Godzilla against Mechagodizlla coming out later this month .
    • 109 4  I fell asleep watching this movie ; not that this movie is the worst , ( that distinction goes to Godzilla vs . Megalon ! ) but the actual fight scences that we Godzilla fans have come to love take SOOOOOOOO LOOOOOONG to get there ! However , once the monsters Mothra , Baragon , and Kong Ghidorah finally fight Godzilla , it's a pleasure to watch . This DVD comes with both English and Japanese soundtracks , so if you ever were curious as to how the actors REALLY sound like without the dubbing , now's the chance . I also found the humor at the start of the movie very good when two soldiers wonder if the Godzilla that attacked NYC recently was the real deal ; a slap in the face to the U.S . Godzilla movie that came out in 1998 with Matthew Broaderick . So , all in all , this movie will be entertaining , once you get past the boring parts .
    • 111 4  This is the best . ok , non g fans it still is a guy in a rubber suit , but it still is good , I also like the suprise ending .
    • 112 4  I would love to have given this film a five , but I had a few problems with it . I just ignore the fact that there is absolutely no continuity anymore in these films , cause I don't care about that . The really odd storylines ? Who cares . Thinking about it I suppose I had one problem with this film . . . and that would be Baragon . Why ? Of all the monsters they had to pick him ? Bad choice . Don't get me wrong it was great to see a new Godzilla film , but the problem was that I watched it the same day I saw the new ( 2003 ) Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla . Now that is the best Godzilla film so far .
    • 113 4  WOW ! ! its almost here the DVD of the year . This has to be one of the best Godzilla movies to come out of Japan in years . This is a most for a true Godzilla fan hands down . I seen some of it when it was on the Sci-fi channle and from what I saw I loved it . In ths movie Godzilla s the bad guy and Mothra , and King Ghidorah are the good guys . And yes Godzilla Kills Mothra Yes ! ! ! I've been waiting for that one.Thats all I can tell you don't want to give the movie away . If you buy one DVD this year make it this one .
    • 114 4  When i first heard about this movie , and heard Baragon was in it , i said NO way , cause , i say Destroy All Monsters , and i hated Baragon . But seeing this movie made me think , man Baragon is Hot ! ! ! ! Godzilla , Mothra , and Ghidorah are awesome in this Movie . Also , I heard about the Director of Gamera Doing this movie , and i loved Gamera , so it was awesome , I dont know what some of you are talking about with no music , or very few fight sequences , this is movie is Godzilla #2 , ( #1 being King of the Monsters ) I have always loved Godzilla , and this can show you why , also , if you can , get the soundtract , because its awesome , If ur a G fan , youll be shockjed by how good this movie is . ( to all of you , i am 13 years old , and i have seen every G movie , i am the #1 fan , its says 12 , but i swear im 13 , born in April 91 on the 9th )
    • 115 4  I think Baragon is cute , cool and big ! I wish Baragon beat the guts out of Godzilla ! BARAGON RULZ ! And so is Godzilla from the 70 ' s and the 90 ' s ! Godzilla 70 , Godzilla 90 and Baragon are the cutest monsters ever , and the coolest !
    • 116 4  Unlike with the first 22 films none of previous films are connected to it expect the very first Godzilla movie made way back in 1954 . Godzilla has returned to Japan to destroy Japan . In this movie Godzilla is possed by the soul of Japanese and Americans who were killed in the Pacific war . It also bring back three other monster . Mothra and King Ghidera . The puny not so popular Bargon . Lots of destuction and god fighting scenses . Problems made Godzilla to powerful . Made Mothra , King Ghidora and Bargon to week . These three the guarding monster fight to defeat Japan . All three of them are defeated by godzilla . Godzilla is still defeated . By the three monster transfering there life force into godzilla's body at the end of the move weakens godzilla . To the point that it can be destoyed . All of godzilla body is destroyed . One annoying thing about this DVD was the dialogue was not budded or tampered so all the dialogue is in Japanese . So unlesh you have the American subtitles activated you can't under stand a darn word any of the charaters say .
    • 117 4  For the diehard fans , this new treatment of Godzilla may be a disappointment . Shusuke Kaneko drastically changed the basic premis of Godzilla , but in doing so , challenged the more recent renditions of the famous monster . On the plus side , the special effects were almost on par with the recent Gamera trilogy . The story line is well written and the characters are fleshed out better than the recent GXM . Also , Godzilla is again a true terror , much like 1954 . The negatives include the monster battles themselves . Godzilla's power in this movie is overwhelming and the other monsters don't stand a chance against him . In addition , you can't sympathize with Godzilla as you could with Gamera in the recent trilogy . Put simply , this is a very good Godzilla movie , just not on par with the original .
    • 118 4  Wow was this movie bad . For one the effects ranged from not bad with a few of the long shots to terrible with others . Secondly the same lame audio track kept playing through the film . Godzilla himself didn't look right which is why they didn't use this suit again , he looks more like a snake ( his face I mean ) and I really hated those eyes with no pupils . Really the movie just felt cheap , like a bad made for TV movie on the Sci Fi Channel . The millennium series is great with one huge exception , this movie .
    • 119 4  I hadn't seen a Godzilla movie in a long time , and boy did I pick the wrong title to rekindle the flame . . . Godzilla , Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack ( GMK for short ) concentrates way too much on the human characters , who for the most part , are about as exciting as counting sheep just before bed . For a majority of the movie , there is way too much lifeless dialogue that the viewer must wade through . The dialogue is flat , monotone , and it saps the life out of me just thinking about it . To make matters worse , there is hardly any humour or camp in this movie . At least Godzilla 2000 had campy dialogue ( e.g Great Caesar's Ghost ! ! ! ) . What made the dialogue fun in the older days were the hokey lines . But in this movie , we're treated to repetitive , monotonous dialogue that is neither humorous nor engaging . All you need to know is that there are so-called Guardian Monsters protecting the ' homeland ' from Godzilla . So what's there to look forward to in this movie if the dialogue is below par ? The answer to that is obviously Godzilla . . . . . . And the sad truth is that the audience doesn't see much of Godzilla . Godzilla doesn't make a REAL appearance until 40 or so minutes into the movie , but even then , we only see him sporadically . And in the few fights that we're treated to , the combat is constantly interrupted with useless dialogue . And some of that dialogue is added in just to tell us that the monsters are fighting - what a waste . To me , it just gets very annoying when even the fight scenes are interrupted by dialogue that's neither important nor entertaining . In the climactic battle featuring Godzilla vs . Mothra and King Ghidorah , a majoriy of it is supplanted with more useless dialogue . At one point , the audience could've been treated to a wonderful fight underwater between Godzilla and King Ghidorah . But what happens ? As soon as they hit the water , the camera takes us away for the duration of that fight just to let the girl's boring father talk about his boring life . And during that time we're listening to all the human drama , Godzilla and King Ghidorah are fighting underwater ( which we don't really see ) . Not many of us watch Godzilla for the human scenes , but for those who do , this film has an abundance of them . Be warned , though - the human scenes here are very serious , and lack humour . And so , the final battle between Godzilla and Mothra / Ghidorah pretty much misses the mark . That's pretty sad because there's only one more other fight in the movie . . . and that's between Godzilla and Baragon . Fortunately , this first battle ( between Godzilla and Baragon ) is extremely fun to watch . Especially when Godzilla is stomping Baragon like a little rodent . On the other hand , that fight is only 5 minutes in length . 5 minutes out of 105 minutes isn't enough to save this movie . And it's not enough for me to recommend this movie for one short battle scene . In conclusion , there just aren't enough monster scenes . In fact , only one monster scene is worth seeing ( Godzilla vs . Baragon ) . There is an incredible amount of time spent on BORING human scenes . Even DURING the few monster scenes we get to see , the focus constantly reverts back to excessive amounts of screentime for even MORE human scenes . It goes without saying that this is NOT a good monster movie . And it's definitely not a good Godzilla movie .
    • 120 4  Godzilla , Mothra , King Ghidorah : Giant Monsters All-Out Attack is a good film , but not better than Godzilla vs . Megaguirus . This film , in my opinion , had problems : 1 . The monster designs , with the exception of Baragon who had a cool design . As for Godzilla , Mothra , and King Ghidorah . . . UGH ! ! ! Godzilla had white eyes and a large belly , Mothra has too long of her legs , and King Ghidorah . . boy his design was ugly ! 2 . World War II spirits ? Give me a break ! 3 . and most horrific of them all . . . KING GHIDORAH IS A GOOD GUY ! ! ! I liked him better when he was a bad guy ! However , I know some things that are positive : 1 . Music . The music in this film was powerful and sweet ! 2 . Godzilla vs . Baragon . This fight was awesome ! and 3 . A human or should I say the Admiral figured out a weak spot to destroy Godzilla . That's the first time since fifty years ago when Dr . Serizawa destroyed Godzilla with the oxygen destroyer . The DVD has Japanese tracks and English Dubbed tracks and great audio and picture quality , but that still not stopping me . I still think this movie was not that great . However , most G-fans like this film , so they would watch this . And a little FYI : There is no such thing as dubtitles . If you set the film in Japanese and take off the English captions , you get a Japanese only film . It's crazy , but it's like seeing a movie in Japan . There is no dubtitles for the Japanese tracks , just the captions . Thanks !
    • 121 4  Forget radioactive monsters . Forget every movie up to this point . Now we have all the angry war dead spirits from WW2 going into Godzilla and he looking like a fat blind aligator ( with a beer belly ) attacking Tokyo ! Oh no ! Now Baragon , Mothera and Ghidra are spirits awoken by a weird old man and different groups of uncarring idiots ( who get theirs ) and the battle begins to stop the possessed Godzilla . Special effects are the best I've seen in these recent movies - REALLY GOOD - but the story . . . . . . What ever happened to monster island and radioactive beasties wasn't that hard enough to swallow ? ?
    • 122 4  This Godzilla movie epitomizes everything that can go wrong in this genre . Godzilla is not supposed to be magical and involved with enemies who look like Barney rejects . The effects in this movie suck , and the monsters look horrible . There is way too much focus on stupid human sub-plots ( as usual ) and bad pacing . The score is also horrible and only features the famous themes at the very last shot credits . The original Gojira was scary , serious , and held a lot of symbolisms . This movie is garbage .
    • 123 4  they should not make godzilla a bad guy he has to be a good guy espeacily when he is fighting agenst king gidorah and for once let mothra team up with godzilla i mean come on godzilla is the protector of japan not the destroyer this is an out rage . please make godzilla a good guy for ever .

  • a MAJOR improvement ! I mean , this movie has EVERYTHING ! I repeat , EVERYTHING that makes the Kaiju genre so great . I was actually impressed with the human story this time around , and the acting was way above average ( the dubbing wasn't too bad , either ) . The film begins very mysteriously , and builds with an intriguing and original plot until the monsters are finally unleashed ! I was a bit confused with that whole plot about Godzilla containing all the souls of those Asian souls lost in the Pacific War ( ? ) , but the rest of the plot was really cool . I was also a bit disappointed with the Godzilla suit ; it looked too much like a crocodile , and they should've given him real eyes with pupils , not just blank white orbs . It was , however , a big improvement from the previous suit . I was not disappointed with the actual Godzilla . This isn't just the lumbering lizard that he was reduced to in the last two films . No , this Godzilla is smart and quick-witted , which made tha monster battles all the more exciting . And they returned his atomic fire breath to its original blue color ! That said , I wish the filmmakers had extended the battles a little . I thought the other monsters were beaten a bit too easily , especially Baragon . But the battles that were there were excellent ! ! These were some of the best , if not THE best , I've ever seen . The newly designed monsters look terrific , though it took a little while getting used to Ghidora's new look ( and new role as Earth's defender , not destroyer ) . Plus , I'm so happy that they actually included Baragon and gave us a good look at him . He's always been one of my favorite monsters , but I could never really get a clear view of him . Like I said , I just wish they had used him a little more and elongated his battle with Godzilla . The special effects are spectacular , too ! The monster suits are incredible , the blue screen well-hidden , and what CGI there was I had a hard time finding . This was a big step up from GODZILLA VS . MEGAGUIRUS , which had some of the most pitiful FX work in any Godzilla film I've ever seen . The music in GMK was alright , and I wasn't nearly as distracted by it as with GVM , but dang I miss Akira Ifukube ! Minor complaints aside ( and believe me , they are minor ) , GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK is some of the best kaiju you're ever likely to behold . What expectations I had were completely blown away , and I can't wait to see GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA . Hopefully , that and its upcoming follow-up will continue the great success of GODZILLA , MOTHRA KING GHIDORA , a modern Kaiju masterpiece to be placed in every Godzilla-phile's library .
    • 001 4  I've seen the region 3 disc of this film and I must tell you all . THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST GODZILLA MOVIES EVER MADE ! The opening credit sequence sets the tone nicely giving close up shots of the monster's skin as if displaying their battle armor . The first battle between Godzilla and Baragon is a great kaiju battle ! Godzilla literally knocks through a hillside to battle Baragon killing the people below ! Run and hide because he means business ! Its just very well filmed and choreographed and the musical score does the film justice . Amazing stuff ! Godzilla has more of a dinosaur-like look to him but I have never seen Godzilla be more evil since the dark and gloomy original . If you like Godzilla then this film is an absolute must have .
    • 030 4  Let me start off by saying WOW ! I was most impressed with this movie . The last Godzilla Movie I saw Was Godzilla 2000 I loved the redesign that they gave Godzilla in this movie . So when I heard About this movie and how Godzilla had a Retro Look I was a bit Leary about it . Well , All my concerns were quickly put to an end . This has to be one of the BEST Godzilla Movies I have seen in a while . The acting was great , The monsters looked Fabulous , The Special effects were Dazzaling to say the least ! They blew my socks off ! They would give Hollywood a run for the money . I have never seen Godzilla so . . . Evil in any of his movies , like I saw him in this one . He was Mad . He was mean . He was smart . He was fierce . And those Eyes of his ! Well , he just plain kicked ass . Then Mothra and King Gidorha Goes with out saying ! They also have never looked so good ! Now the movie is not whitout it's falts . The one major complain I had with this movie was the whole Godzilla being filed with spirits of the dead thing . Could have done with out it . Besides that it was AWESOME ! No Chessyness here , nothing but full on Action , Suspense and Fun . If you do buy a Godzilla movie make sure it is this one ! Yuo will not regret it !
    • 039 4  This Movie Rocks First Of the Story For Once In the Millenium series Is Actually Fun To watch through the whole movie . Godzilla is Both Creepy , Powerful , And Cool . Why Didn't This Godzilla Suit ever appear Again ? I Loved It . This is For All Godzilla Movies If they ever EVEN MENTION THE FIRST GODZILLA IN ANY NEW MOVIE EVER AGAIN I SWEAR I'LL BUST INTO TOHO STUDIO'S AND BURN THAT MOVIE ! Not REally But They Mention it in all the Millenium Movies . Well the battles are cool Great special effects . King Ghidorah Mothra and baragon all look great . The last Battle in it was long , but it wasn't like other godzilla movies . it was filled with eye popping special effects . Something new happens every move . Godzilla's breath was awsome only to have the next godzilla movie have a different and less powerful godzilla . In godzilla x MechaG When he blew his fire at a tank the tank started melt in stead of blowing up it melted ? I know bigG's fire is more powerful than that , But this one's Breath just blew tanks up and could kill monsters with one , two , three blows . This movie is just awesome . So Get It . I promise you won't regret it . Why don't they bring back that guy who directed this back ?
    • 056 4  After the disappointments that were GODZILLA 2000 and GODZILLA VS . MEGAGUIRUS , I prayed that GMK would be an improvement . It was : a MAJOR improvement !
    • 080 4  Every aspect of this movie is good , except for one thing : GODZILLA ! ! ! When he breathed fire , his teeth disappeared , and he had a pot belly ! WHAT IS WITH THAT ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! If you're a G fan , buy it now ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! If not , better rent it first . Another thing I liked about this movie is that when Godzilla stomped on Tokyo , little bit of debris cars flew in the air , and it looked real COOL ! ! ! !
    • 101 4  Let's get one thing straight . I LOVE GODZILLA . I even like the bad 70 ' s G films . I can even get behind the notion of returning Godzilla to being truly frightening . . . but evil ? ? ? Even the ' 54 Godzilla wasn't evil . . . he was a force of nature . . . like a hurricane , earthquake , or a typhoon . Unstoppable - just get out of his way and pick up the pieces after he's gone ! I applaud Toho for wanting to try a new approach . . . but in doing so they've turned the G-Universe upside down . . . I mean c'mon - Ghidorah's a HERO ? ? ? ? That said . . . the monster battles were AMAZING . The hillside battle with Baragon was INCREDIBLE . ( It's nice to see Godzilla fighting someone other than Mothra , MechaGodzilla or Ghidorah for a change ! ) The Mothra fight was nice , but over way too quickly . The final battle with Ghidorah relied a little too much on CGI for my tastes , and might've been better if not set underwater , and at night ! The human characters were actually interesting for a change , which helps a lot ! Bottom line . . . GREAT effects , THUNDERING monster battles , INTERESTING Godzilla design , but PLEASE don't ever try to make Ghidorah a good guy again ! ! !

    • 110 4  This is the third movie in the millenium series and , like GODZILLA 2000 and GODZILLA VS . MEGAGUIRUS , It's great ! One of the best things about the movie is Baragon . He's one of the cutest monsters ever ! But , as with the previous Millenium Godzilla films , it has some flaws . For one thing , Godzilla's new look is terrible ! He's way too fat and has a really blocky head ! HOLY COW ! Also , Godzilla's the bad guy . It's really unfair . I like him beter as a hero . Also , Baragon DIES ! IT ISN'T FAIR ! HE'S TOO ADORABLE TO BE KILLED ! And last but not least , we come to Ghidorah . Ghidorah is SMALLER THAN GODZILLA in this film AND he's a good guy ! Now , what's up with that ? Ghidorah was better off evil ! However , those flaws are made up for by the film's score . I LOVE that score ! Possibly the best music in the entire history of forever ! Kow Otani , you are a GREAT composer ! Anyway , This film is a great film in a wonderful series , and , like G2K and GXM before it , It RULES ! AND SO DOES BARAGON !
