001 4 The Final Fantasy series which originated from the Nintendo platforms finally marked a return to its roots this year with the Crytal Chronicles landing on the controversial GameCube platform .
To distinguish itself from the numbered series that now prosper on the Sony consoles , Crystal Chronicles mark a huge diversion in terms of game play and design . Musch emphasis was placed on the multiplayer module that allow up to 4 players to play at the same time with their GBA connected to the GameCube . The most stunning aspect of this multiplayer mode was there is no split screen but all characters are limited in movement by the crytal cage that protects everybody from the poisonous mist in the world .
The single player mode which was less mentioned in fact offers the same degree of satisfaction for players . Instead of having friends carrying the crystal cage , a moogle ( an FF icon ) carries it for you ( but from time to time will tell you it is tired and you have carry for it to maintain a good relationship with the moogle ) . Battles are in real time action similar to Kingdom Hearts but you have more strategy involved rather than hack and slash . You can power up your attack with a target ring , but you need to predict the moves of your enemies to score your hit . This is the same for magic used in Crystal Chronicles .
Magic are obtained through magical orbs dropped by enemies or found in chests , but they can't be kept in your possession after your left the area . This might cause a bit of nuisance to traditional FF players but since they are so readily available , you won't be missing out too much . However , the annoying part will be you have reassign the command slots that you need to scroll with your L / R button in every area you enter to your advantage for battles . Nonetheless , the game will remind you to do so before you enter the area . If you want to keep the magic , you have to find the magic rings and equip them to your characters . Certain magic like Gravity are resulted from orb combination , but the game will tell you when you assign them side by side in the command slots .
In terms of levelling up , it is done through acquiring different type of antiques in the Crystal Chronicles world . There are heaps to collect and they are dropped by enemies or found in chests . However , you can only keep one of the antiques after you clear the area , so if you want the whole collection for a lot of levelling up , then you will need to visit and clear a particular area again and again until you get them all . This could cause a bit of nuisance for some people . Nonetheless , you can always eat different kinds of food to boost your magic , strength and defence temporarily .
Each character has a family business which in return will be a necessity for different forms of levelling up . Different families provide different unique services to you such as food , weapons and armours that you can use to level up your character . Any family that are not assigned to a character yet , their house hold will be occupied by a moogle instead until you inhabit every single one of them .
In terms of control and game play , it offers more handy experience to players when compared to Kingdom Hearts but as mentioned , the reassignment of command slots can cause a bit of nuisance . Nonetheless , if you assign a Phoenix Down to one of the slots , it could revive your character immediately when it is killed , which could be handy for difficult boss fights .
The graphics is stunningly detailed and designed . It was afraid that the return to the style similar to FF 9 , which is not that successful , would hinder the game a bit , but it turns out it works really well with the environment and the world of Crystal Chronicles . A lot of details have been attended to landscape , water effects and light effects - you can see the defracted image of your character from the crystal cage when the miru water is filled to a certain level .
Storywise , it is unfolded during different encounters on the road and during the initial description of the areas your first visited . So the more encounter you made , the more you would know about the story .
In all , Crystal Chronicles is a very promising return of the franchise to the Nintendo platform and surely it will provide you a whole new experience in the Final Fantasy series .
002 4 Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles is , like many have pointed out , not part of the main Final Fantasy ( numbered ) series . In Final Fantasy terms , it's almost the exact opposite of Final Fantasy Tactics . Instead of a deep , twisting plot that almost required cliffs notes , and long battles that could last 30 minutes , FF : CC is a much faster game .
That is not to say that it's brainless , or just hack-and-slash . FF : CC definitely has a plot , but it unravels slowly - - in letters from home or friends , musings of moogles , and in the various encounters you will have during your travels . Talking to people multiple times reveals more information that they didn't reveal when you first talked to them . You'll soon see an interesting undercurrent about the loss of memories . FF : CC has a very slow development of plot , and yet , it doesn't seem out of place to the game .
And despite the slower plot speed , the game moves along at a fast clip . In terms of gameplay , this game almost has more in common with recent Legend of Zelda games ( or , for Final Fantasy fans , it's most like Final Fantasy Adventure ) . FF : CC focuses on exploration and combat more than other games in the series . Combat is usually fairly short , but boss battles in single-player mode can take a while .
What's almost most interesting is the atmosphere this game evokes . Instead of the mysterious world being understood by a main character with an enigmatic past , a lot of the story - and character-development cards are on the table early . The main world seems rural and quiet - - and the dungeons are unbelievable . The music ( save the Wonka-esque Daemon's Court tune ) is haunting but enthralling . Monsters have their own unique behavior . Orcs are easily confused and outflanked , stopping frequently to raise their swords and taunt you with a laugh . Ahrimans float overhead and threateningly attack unless grounded . . . and so on .
Water effects are unbelievable , and I have found myself many times stopping in the game just to soak in the atmosphere of an area . . . . the distant water of a mine , dimly lit by pinpoints of lantern light . . . the quiet meadow near the Jegon River . . . and so on .
Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles is unlike any other game in the series , but still distinctly a Final Fantasy . The themes evolve slowly - - and if you're expecting grand developments in the tradition of 6 or 7 , you're in for some serious disappointment . If you are just expecting a grand adventure , Crystal Chronicles is your game .
I personally haven't been this interested in a game since Ultima 9 , several years ago . Unfortunately , that game's fascinating atmosphere was soured by the fact that it crashed several times and required an unbelievable system at the time . I keep seeing and experiencing things in this game that make me think of my old adventures in the Ultima series . . . or moments when I was saving Hyrule from certain doom in the Zelda series .
FF : CC is primarily designed for multiplayer play , but it is possible ( though difficult ) to complete in single-player mode . And despite what some reviews may say , I think the single-player mode holds up very well . Just remember when you set out on your journey : in Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles , getting there is half the fun .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
I hated this game when I bought it ; expecting a awesome comeback for Final Fantasy to Nintendo . I was dissapointed to say the least . Yet I loved the music and graphics . . . the graphics were absolutely stunning .
Well - I just picked it up again after a long time and started playing it . I must say I am enjoying it - despite the fact it is VERY different . The graphics are still great even after a long time since it's been released . I also decided to purchase the soundtrack to this series . The only thing I wish was different that it would be alot easier to play the multiplayer mode . I am the only person I know who owns this game so I can't really play multiplayer .
Overall , a good series and much different then usual Final Fantasy games but with the complex multiplayer as well as lack of storyline , it doesn't measure up to the more popular and well-known FF games .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicals is the first FF game I have ever played , and I have to say that I enjoy it . It has stunning graphics and sounds , small , yet challenging levels , and has many interactions between your character and Non-Playable Characters ( NPCs ) .
One reason that I like FF : CC is because you can play cooperatively with other players . Granted , the GBA is a liability , especially if you are low on batteries , but it helps to remove clutter from the TV screen .
Along with the coop play , I also like the speed of the game . For every game year , you have to collect three drops of Myrrh . When you first start a new game , you could potentially advance two or three years in about an hour if you get the hang of it . The story goes a bit slow , but that is to be expected when you consider that you might want to get your character's stats up as high as you can before taking on the final boss .
I also like the interactions that happen along the road . As you go about your adventure , you will meet the caravans from the other cities , who are also trying to collect Myrrh . Some encounters , such as with the caravaners from Leuda and the Striped Brigands , a trio of thieves , are humorous . Some encounters reveal more of the plot , and some can even help you on your quest .
Now to focus on some bad things . As you progress through the game , the levels you started at get more difficult , with the presence of stronger monsters . Even the bosses at the end of each level gain Hit Points ( HP ) and stronger spells to use . This can mean trouble if someone creates a character on the 5th year , for example , because , while the character that has been used most often has been strengthened , any characters that aren't used as often will be a hinderance in multiplayer mode .
Another problem is the limit of difficulty in levels . Each level has three cycles of enemies . Once you beat the third cycle , the difficulty never increases , leading to a level that isn't a challenge anymore .
Overall , I think that anyone who likes RPG's with real-time fighting will love FF : CC . The storyline seems simple and boring at first , but as you progress through the game , more mysteries are revealed .
My scores :
Concept : 4 out of 5
Graphics : 5 out of 5
Sound : 5 out of 5
Playability : 4 out of 5
Entertainment : 3 out of 5
Replay : 3 out of 5

009 4 many people say this game doesn't live up to the final fantasy name , which i really wouldnt no because im not a huge final fantasy fan , but this actually was the one that turned me on to the series , and some of the final fantasy games disapoint me when i compare them to this game .
the plot development is slow and subtle but thats not really a bad thing , its not like you start out your going to be the one to save the world ! your just helpin your village .
some people say your character is without personality , thats because YOU make your character so you see your character the way you want to , which i think you can flow with the game better with anyway .
as for fighting , its fun , i use a yuke ( the spellcaster race ) so i dont attack very much , but there are combo moves and you can stack spells to make stonger spells . the boss battles are always interesting , and when you revisit a boss itll have some thing new like a spell or attack , so it always interesting .
i wouldnt recomend this game to people looking to play another final fantasy because it is drasticly different , however id recomend this to anyone just lookin for a fun long game .
013 4 Fred's Review :
8 / 10 stars
What turns out from just saving your village turns out to be saving the World ( I won't say that much ) . Miasma a poisonous gas that surrounds the world , so how do survive it ? Every village / town / other things have a crystal that protects them from the miasma , but the crystal needs offerings of myrrh to insure the safety for another year . You get to choose from 4 player classes and choose male or female and choose your design . You travel around the world map going through the levels and fighting the bosses and collecting the myrrh . 3 drops of myrrh will fill the chalice and you'll go back to your hometown and the year will be over . You should always read your diary because in later parts you'll have to memorize some parts of a poem you heard to get past a level . This game is great for multiplayer but i find it very hard compared to the one player because if you need to put another item in your command slot you're open to attack and you could die . Other than that the game is pretty straight forward . The bad part is you don't gain levels to increase your stats , instead you get artifacts from boss fights and other things that increase your stats . But there are only a limited number of artifacts and you can only get once of each . I still have to beat a part of the final boss . But I realized if I beat him that means all the . . . ( Right , can't ruin the plot . ) After you you've seen the all the levels you'll get bored and stop playing it . I would not consider this a must buy game but i added it to the walkthrough and buyables section .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
Finally ! A game that you can walk around killing enemies . Unlike the other final fantasy games for PS2 , you don't stand there waiting to get killed . In this game you can run around casting spells and attacking people with your weapon .
Also unlike the other PS2 FF games , you can choose a variety of charactors . There are four races that you can choose from ( clavat , lilties , yukes , selkie ) . a clavat is ok in everything . A Lilty is good in speed . A Yuke is good in charging up focus attacks ( a charged up attack that is 3x's the original attack ) . A lilty is good in speed but if you don't want a charater that lacks the speed of charging up spells and focus attacks , DO NOT PICK THIS CHARACTER ! ! A Selkie is long-ranged in his / her focus attack .
The ememies can look cool yet messed up . They usually attack you in twos or threes .
This Game is awesome . If you want a violent adventure game , get this !

018 4 After being away from Nintendo for a decade the Final Fantasy Series finally comes back to Nintendo game consoles . Crystal Chronicles is nice for some FF fans but not all . More over it has more of Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance kind of way to battle rather than the old style turn-based .
The story in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is one to honor for it's creativeness . A large , dark , poisonous miasma covers the world and can only be controlled by the magical large crystals . These Crystals repel the pwer of the miasma The thing is though , the Crystals lose power after a year . So it's up to your character to find the Myrth to recharge these crystals that are at the center of every town . It's a creative story , but it lacks the story-telling that Final Fantasy has become famous for over the years .
You start off by selecting your character and customizing him or her the way you want them to be . This seems good but it actually makes the game lack the other portion of what FF is famous for . It's characters aren't that loveable or developed . You don't feel anything for these characters .
That's not to say Crystal Chronicles isn't a pretty game . The character models and landscapes are INCREDIBLE to look at . The monsters and everything in this game are quite simply astonishing . The boss designs are even more amazing to look at . So the graphics are incredible in this game .
The gameplay is actually where Crystal Chronicles begins to faulter . It's great to hook up with your friends and go running around . Executing attacks and the control scheme are brilliantly done . It's the connectivity and the lack of actually playing the game . First , in order to play multiplayer you MUST hook up a Gameboy Advance . If you want to play multiplayer you CAN'T do it without a GBA ( which means if you don't have one you HAVE to get one to play multiplayer ) . Each time you're in the middle of action and someone has to stop and pause the game for whatever reason ( equipment , healing and that sort ) the gameplay for that character stops . In single player this is no problem , but in multiplayer it'll leave the character in the menu open to take damage .
This isn't all . Players also need to keep their eye on a bucket that covers about 4 / 5 of the screen . If characters step outside of this bucket they take damage . This forces you all to be huddled together on screen .
But the good news is that playing with your friends on multiplayer is a blast . The game is actually harder with four characters than it is with one , which helps the gameplay element . Of course , the other problem with connecting is that if someone's batteries in their GBA dies ummm . . . well that character is helpless .
As far as the sound and music go , it's not quite the same music is was before but the tunes are still memorable nonetheless . The sound effects aren't bad either so the game really hits high here .
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles , for what it's worth , isn't a bad game really . The multiplayer is fun but it suffers from quite a few little bugs . Great concept for the game . . . but it seems like the recipe was missing something .
The Good
+ Amazing Graphics
+ Great Gameplay on Multiplayer
+ Good Music
+ Creative story
+ Nice Combat System
+ Custom characters
The Bad
- You can only play Multiplayer with the GBA , so if you want multiplayer you have to BUY a GBA !
- When in the menu on the GBA your character is open to take damage
- The characters lack developement
- That bucket makes it so your characters have to be huddled together
- If someones batteries in their GBA dies then that character is ineffective
023 4 The game had originally seemed like it would be horrible when I first heard of it . I had made fun of the concept for months until it finally came out . My little brother rented it from a game store and I played , just for good laugh . I didn't have the Gameboy hook-up cables at the time , but the game still seemed fun enough . I thought to myself Yeah . . . it's not THAT bad , but it's no FF7 . And then it happened . My little brother bought a cable for himself , and his friend bought one . So when they finsihed playing I called my friend Matt H . over . We started a Multi-player adventure . I was enticed by this game . I bought two more cables and my friend Kevin M . bought one as well . We started a 4 player adventure , after picking up where me and Matt had left off . The game pulled us in so fast . We couldn't stop playing . So now we are on our 4th year in the game . We have almost finished but still , we cannot wait until we can play again today .
All in all this game would be fun if there was Friendly Fire capabilities , but overall , I give this game a 5 out of 5 .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
My bias is that from a Final Fantasy fan . Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles is NOT a Final Fantasy game . It doesn't even come close to the Legend of Zelda in terms of action / adventure . It is a waste of time , space , energy , and money . All together .
I made the regretful mistake of putting this product on my Amazon Wish List when it first came out . After testing it at stores and reading about it , I quickly realized the game was cheese . I forgot , however , to remove it from my Wish List . My brother and sister bought it for me for my birthday one year ! Aye yie yie !
So because of the $50 they scrounged together in my honor , I figured I'd give the game a thorough shot .
I couldn't take it anymore by the time I got to the second level . It was atrocious . I felt sorry for the Final Fantasy name and for my relatives for dropping the cash .
Enough of the emotional banter . Let me try to give an analytical review of this game .
First of all , it does not meet the definition of a classic role-playing game . ( Within the last couple of years , however , I have noticed RPG taking on a new meaning . Now it means simply playing as someone else . Grand Theft Auto , for example , is now classified as an RPG . ) But with today's loose definition of RPG , you can call it that , I guess . But I grew up with real RPGs , like Dragon Warrior , the Final Fantasy titles , Lufia , Breath of Fire , etc . ( These were all turn-based RPGs . )
Second , FF : CC does not develop your characters sanely . Sorry , but whoever programmed this atrocity embarrassed the genre of action / adventure .
Third , I recommend you boycott any GameCube title that requires the use of the Game Boy Advance to play multiplayer . It is asinine to expect people / kids to pay money for such an inconvenient , expensive , and improper method to simply play with your friends .
Lastly , this game is best suited for gamers who do not like real RPGs but prefer an action game with unique challenges in gameplay . Yes , FF : CC is an action / adventure , but unlike most others , the gamer will simply have to learn this somewhat different style ( it is more hack & slash than anything - the multiplayer functionality should have saved this game from a bad review , but it was disappointing at best ) . But other than that , the game will offer essentially ZERO to true RPG gamers , especially those who love the Final Fantasy series . Stay away from this game if you love Final Fantasy titles .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
Square Soft , now Square Enix , has been known for their great Final Fantasy titles . From the first ones on the Nintendo to the more recent ones on the PS and PS2 ( and now PS3 ) , we've seen great story lines combined with great graphics for the time period , as well as a great battle system .
Chrystal Chronicles lacks in most of these departments . The graphics are admitedly great compared to most games on the Nintendo system . They are more geared toward a child audience rather than a fantasy audience , however .
The battle system comes across very easy . If one is having difficulty , all s / he has to do is run away and come back after his / her life has filled up , giving the player no challenge during the gameplay . In addition , there isn't really anything new to the battle play , and is very similar to Kingdom Hearts on the PS2 .
The story line lacks intensly . Here's what happens . You go out , collect something that looks like a drop of water , and return home after filing your jar . You do that enough times , and you've beaten the game . It really is pathetic , and doesn't deserve the Square Enix name .
If you're a young kid looking to get into the RPG Fantasy games , this game would appeal to you . It's a decent introduction to RPG's , but by no means is it the best . If you've ever played an RPG before and liked it , don't play this game .

041 4 First , this is not a Final Fantasy game . That is not a criticism it is a fact . I like this game . I like Final Fantasy . I like pizza and comic books but they are not the same thing . Put the title Pizza on a comic book and you still couldn't eat it . Ignore the name and move on .
Second , the game is designed for multi-player and most of the reviews that I have read assume multi-player participation . I do not . Even if you can find 3 friends with GBA's and link cables , getting them together for more than a few hours at a time , will be problematic at best . I think that all RPG's need a multi-player ( especially 2 player ) option but this game's multi-player is designed for a party of players . That will be difficult for most Cube owners to manage .
I begin with the assumption that , like me , you'll be playing Crystal Chronicles solo .
This is an action game . You move from area to area trying to clear levels . More like a 3D fighting game in structure than an RPG . The closest thing I can compare it to on the Cube is : Gauntlet , Dark Legacy . That being said , the game does have a little more depth than Dark Legacy and will keep you coming back , that is if the action fighting aspect doesn't put you off immediately .
After you complete 3 levels ( areas ) the game year ends . This provides the structure for the story in the game . As you move from area to area on the world map your journey will be interrupted by random encounters , but not combat encounters . These are story snippets , little pieces of information that move the game's plot along . They are random , and sometimes they repeat . But , key segments change from year to year so that the longer you play , the more of the story is revealed .
You do not discover the story by running around and interacting with the in game characters , very little of this sort of thing is required at all . The story plays out for you as you go along and you get to watch it happen , but you don't make it happen .
The story bits are beautiful to behold , as are the levels . This is the prettiest game I have ever seen . And , at first this was the only thing that kept me coming back . Eventually , however , I did find myself committed to the growth of my character and interested in seeing what the story would show me next .
Even playing solo , I found that I could build my character enough to manage all the levels ( and I am NOT a dexterous gamer ) . You build up your character by getting money and buying better equipment , there are no class levels at all . But your equipment can be improved even early in the game . I do enjoy this game very much . It is playable for a solo gamer and the story bits are entertaining .
I have clocked just over 20 hours on the game and feel that it is money well spent , however the game had to , grow on me . At first I didn't like the game . I'm an RPG game fan - this game isn't that . I'm a Final Fantasy fan . This game isn't that .
The game is a 3D version of a fighting side scroller of old . You work your way from area to area and are rewarded with items and bits of story . The game play is good , the graphics great ! I am going to play the game through again using a different character type . Fun Fantasy but not Final Fantasy .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
Crystal Chronicles should ONLY be played with one or two friends . I realize this requires some hefty hardware requirements , but the game simply is not fun alone . Ideally , as a multiplayer co-op , FFCC is a fantastic game . Unfortunately , it suffers from a slew of design issues . Quirky upgrade system . Frustrating enemies / levels / puzzles . Repetitive setup . It's just a hack-and-slash , after all , and not the Final Fantasy we remember . BUT - - the game has a great fantasy feel to it that is very involving and really makes you work as a team . You'll put in a good 20 + hours with it , too , and that's not bad . FFCC isn't perfect , but it's very rare you get to play a game of this nature , anyway .

058 4 This is a bad game and when i say bad I mean It Sucks ! This game has really bad graphics compared to all the other Final Fantasies and terrible gameplay . I was expecting something really big when I heard it was coming back to Nintendo but I was wrong ! The best part about this game is creating your character at the begining . That is about all this game has to offer . You mine as well play the Super Nintendo FF ! And if you have already bought it . . . I feel very sorry . . and for those of You who were thinking about buying it , I hope I have saved you .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
I love Final Fantasy and have played all of them . The gameplay in CC is complicated , especially if you're used to the other FF games . I love the graphics and how cute the characters look , but the fighting system is difficult ! You have to hold down the button in order to power up your spell or attack and then move a targeting circle over to the enemy . By the time you do this , if the enemy hits you , you have to power up all over again .
Also , when you die you are given the option to continue playing or going to the title screen . If you are fighting a boss , you are placed back at the boss location again and keep on fighting and fighting , even when you've gone through all your healing items . If you choose to go back to the title screen , it doesn't save your previous progress . So , in my case , the new character I created was gone .
I didn't like the fact that there was no on-screen map to show where I was going . I think that is what the GBA hook-up is supposed to be for , but I didn't feel like spending extra to buy a cable to hook my GBA up to the console .
I want to play this game so badly , but getting past the first boss on the first stop along the way , is very hard to do . It's frustrating . This game seems to be made more for those who like either this sort of open battle system or for multi-players . FF is supposed to be a one on one gaming RPG . I am trying so hard to give it more chances , but my initial impression was dissapointment . I'll probably give it another chance later .

066 4 At first , I tried renting this game because I was cautious about it , not knowing if it would interest me . I was dead wrong . This game is perfect for any collection , and also recommended for Final Fantasy lovers . While it may have a different battle simulator , it is still VERY strategic , you'll have to dodge those powerful attacks from countless bosses and land cool combos to finish them off . There's also an awesome option to fuse your magics to create more powerful ones ( example : fuse one fire with another fire , it'll give you a stronger fire magic attack ! )
Also , another cool thing about it is the multiplayer mode . While you DO have to have 2 or more gameboy advances to play multiplayer , it is well worth it . Having the chance to defeat big bad guys with your strong buddies gives you a great feeling , if you know what I mean . There's also cool mini games you can play in the meanwhile , if you and your friends are tired of fighting for a while . . .
Yet another wicked thing about this game , you can choose up to 4 different characters to play as , of course they each have specific strenghts and weaknesses . Also , you can choose to be in either 8 famillies , some being blacksmith , farmer , fisherman , etc . Oh , and of course you can do up to 8 characters in one file , so you can do all 8 famillies if you so desire . You can costumise your characters with weaponry , armor , accesories to help you beat up those baddies as well !
A very excellent game , some may dislike it , some may not . For me , it's well worth playing !

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
Well as many already know FF : CC strays away from the style of the current and older final fantasy games.Which i think is horrible because they changed what we all know and love about are Final fantasy games. But ill be fair and list the pros and cons of this game .
Pros : Beautiful graphics
you get to make your own character
the sound quality was very good
Multiplayer
cons : Almost no real plot depth
lack of character development
The style of the map is kind of cheap
not much character interaction
you have to go to a diary and read what happens to your character instead of seeing it in action
Overall FF : CC is not an rpg but an adventure game that gets boring and repetitive after awhile . But if you still feel you want to play it DONT buy it rent it at least then you wont feel so cheated .

I bought this because I thought it might be like FF7 . It wasn't . I think it was intended for an audience younger than I am . It's not a bad game , there's just too much competition in the market now to recommend an average game like this .

This game probably won't sell very well since they put Final Fantasy in the title . This game is nothing like FF , so if your a huge fan of FF don't get your hopes up .
But that does not mean that this game is not incredible . I bought this game the year it came out and I play it today . So if you own a Gamecube , and you like playing older games , please get this game today .
NOTE : I didn't say anything about the game play because there's no point of repeating . Just look at what the other people who put 5 stars said .

089 4 Nintendo for some reason tends to be stubborn . While they offer great games , they also have this attitude that they should stand out above all others with innovations and this doesn't always succeed . Remember Virtual Boy ? Did you actually buy one , and still have it ? Thought so . While Sony and Sega ( and literally everyone except handhelds ) were doing CD based games , Nintendo still came up with Nintendo 64 , which took cartridges . They'll drop the brand new Nintendo DS which has the touch screen ability where you move a pen-like thing around the screen . Different yes but can you imagine how many games will actually use this ? And most importantly , instead of online play , they opt for connectivity with the GBA / SP and let's face it , only 2 games really utilize this : this game and Zelda Four Swords . But anyway , onto the game .
Who knew a Final Fantasy game would have very little plot ? Basically , the world is covered in a mist called miasma which is lethal to people so they discovered a way to repel this with massive crystals inside towns . Trouble is , they have to be replenished so they send 2 - 3 caravans to recharge it with myrrh , a mysterious substance you get from trees . That's it . There's no character development , no real big plot twists . Even Zelda Four Swords had a bigger plot than this .
While the story leaves much to be desired , the graphics are astonishing . The character designs are cute , the world's are rich and detailed , spells are fantastic , and let's not forget those cute redesigned moogles ( they look fluffier here ) .
I didn't get far but as far as I could tell , there was only one bit of voice acting : a narrator which tells you a story of the dungeon / level you visit . The music has a folk / Celtic feel to it which , while doesn't have anything has stunning as Liberi Fatali or Aeris's Theme , it does fit the world .
As you've most likely have heard , you can hook up 4 GBA's to play it to it's potential . This may seem cumbersome ( either you end up buying all 4 which is stupid to be honest with you or finding 3 friends who happen to have GBA's ) , it honestly is some of the most fun you'll have playing a game .
As for the gameplay , it's so-so . In order to traverse the world , either a moogle or a friend in multiplayer carries a chalice which protects you from the miasma . Like the review , it's a ridiculous idea that hinders gameplay , especially in multiplayer . Actions are done by cycling through either Attack , Items or the spells you've collected . You'll have find yourself attacking when you should cure yourself cause you didn't cycle properly . You can create bigger , powerful spells if you and your friends time your spells in the same spot but since everyone pretty much goes on their own time , it'll probably miss . The other thing is the spells ( or magicites as they're called ) can't be taken with you when you leave a dungeon which means you have to find them again in the new dungeons . Ugh .
Despite the many problems it has , it's probably one of the most fun you'll have in multiplayer but I very much suggest it . I end up playing single player as I only have one friend who has a GBA and he's busy most of the time but if you have friends with a GBA each , then definately check this out but you'll notice some problems along the way .

Alright , first off definetely rent this game or at least wait till the price drops down significantly .
Pros :
- Character designs are adorable .
- Get to choose how your character looks ( i.e . gender , race , class )
- Moogles are adorable and fluffy
- Encompases strategy and action into some RPG elements
- Music was pleasant
- Name your own village
- Multiplayer
Cons :
- Gets repetitive very easily
- Read a diary of your adventures rather than actually see any development in character relationships
- You come across some other caravans but they all say similar things
- Little character development
- You visit the same places too often
- When you finish a year , the same dance and ritual to refresh the crystal is carried out .
- The diary entries don't change for any specific race or character
- VERY little indepth plot
Alright well , as you can see the pros and cons are somewhat evened out so I gave this game three stars overall . Really it probably deserves two stars but there is something about this game that is quite addictive when you truly get into it . I suggest it as a rental rather than a buy . Wait till it gets around $10 - 20 if you wish to buy it .

095 4 I have never played a FF game in my life , and never intended to . What caught my eye about this game is that it's made for Gamecube ( best system ) , and that the characters are all kids . ( so I knew it wouldn't be too difficult , and I'm usually fearful of trying to play games with all these characters on screen at the same time . ) The graphics are awsome , and I love how I can play single player with just one player , and not have 3 others that I have to watch out for ' cause that's just STUPID ! I love how fun it is , and it reminds me of the Zelda series . If you like Wind Waker , then you will also like this game . Don't let this one slide !
099 4 Final Fantasy Rocks ! ! ! ! !
If you're an r.p.g . ( role playing game ) fanatic this game is for you , and if you like final fantasy this game is also for you . So go out and buy , buy , buy .
Firstly this game has so-so character creating for those of you who like that kind of stuff . The drawback is you can't choose head , torso , or legs . But you can choose race , gender , and your parent's occupation .
Secondly you can interact with most of environment , and there are some glitches like walking through a bridge or something . What you do at the beging of the game affects the rest of it .
Further more the price of $50.00 ( which I have mentioned before ) for a game this good is unbelievable . You could also wait a bit and get it cheaper .
Out of all the games I've played this one falls a little short of a 10.0 . I recommend this to kids over the age of 8 because it's kind of complicated to play . Don't buy it if you do not like r.p.g . ' s . So go out a buy , NOW ! ! ! !
100 4 Though this is a game with the Final Fantasy tital on it it is a great game even if the story is a complete bogus joke . Well the story is not what suffers its the characters . Like all the Final Fantasy games the story really makes you care about the characters and what happens to them . Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on the other hand , does this in no way . The story was a great one but if it made the characters more engaging then it would have been gold . The gameplay itself is really great . Though many people hated it , it was really a great game in the end . Remember this game is more of Final Fantasy Multiplayer than Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles , like Final Fantasy XI Online is more of Final Fantasy Online than FFXI . And it is better playing with friends than by yourself . But I played the single player experience a lot more and it was a great game ether way you go , and is worth buying even if you you are going to play it alone . Remember to buy a Game Boy Advanced connecter and it will be an even greater experience playing this one-of-a-kind game trust me .
101 4 I love this game . I dont look at comparison to other games , because , well , I've never played another FF game . Nontheless , it is great . But the editor reviews here stink ! The games plot is the deepest Ive ever seen . And you should look at the game , not others .
If you do youll just see flaws . Overal , buy it !

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
As an avid FF player since I was 9 and got the original Final Fantasy for NES , up to X - 2 now I must say this seemed like the most 1 off version . Putting the crappy MMORPG of FF XI , and the legend series on Gameboy , this one rates just above them , down on the bottom of the list of final fantasy titles . I played this a few times at a friends house and was disappointed with the story and gameplay mostly , the charachters seemed like they were for little kids . The Final Fantasy series was always meant to be 1 player , a real pain in the butt difficulty wise , consume a lot of your time , and have such a great story that you get drawn into the game and feel as though you are the main charachter . This game was just way to easy , but I will give Square credit for trying something new , but as they learned with Tactics and the horrible FFXI they should just stick to what they know best , and with FFXII on the way for PS2 they are going back to that tradition .
110 4 Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles , where to start ? I found out about this game when I bought Mario Kart : Double Dash , on the Bonus Demo disc . It looked pretty cool , but I knew there was still a few months until it was released . A good friend of mine got this game , but he hesitated . He's a big fan of anime , and one of his favorite mangas is Berserk . The Berserk box set cost 50 bucks and FFCC was also 50 bucks . My friend hesitantly bought this game . He started playing it and it was AWESOME . We all pitched in for gameboy advance connection cables , and hooked them all in . You can play 4 - PLAYER ! As for the gameplay , you can choose from 4 different races , Selkies , Clavats , Yukes , and Lilties . These names may sound fruity , but deal with it . You can pick male or female , and each class has 8 different styles that you can customize your character . For example I have a male Selkie , and the style is Racoon Tail . His hair are all ragged and blonde . He looks pretty cool . For this game to be fun , you have to play with AT LEAST one other person . Make sure you have some GBA's and have your friends pitch in for some link cables to the game cube . This game kicks ( . . . ) !
114 4 I just got this game about a week or so ago . i have to say I didn't get what I expected . Sure creating a character was cool but the game as the game kind of repeats the same process I can tell at this early point in time . It can be intertaining but I kind of feel I have to force my self to play it at times . It isn't really one of the better FFs but it has a sort of interesting story and the graphics are wonderful but it just didn't meet my expectations .
122 4 My first thoughts when I heard Square-enix was making a FF game for Cube ? I thought awesome ! ! More Final Fantasy ! Then I started seeing some pictures . Wow Nintendo was succesful in Nintendofying another great game ( kids saving the world , are you kidding me ! ) But I still said that I would give the game a chance . Next I find out that the battle system will be in real time ! ! ! That is not Final Fantasy . So now I say this . What is going on in Square's head ? Why don't they just chop off the Final Fantasy name and make the game Crystal Chronicles .
This still may be a decent game but in respect to Final Fantasy it will be an abysmal game

This game is LAME ! ! ! It should be called Final Fantasy : the Crystal Losers Chronicles . all the final fantasy fans , expected a big game , and because Square Enix begins again making games for Nintendo , got all of the Final Fantasy Fans excited . The game is totally lame , has a serious lack of story ! ! ! Seriously ! ! ! ! ! You get to pick the name of your town , your character , gender , etc , and then , your on your own , you meet other caravans ( but nothing big ) and you fight monsters ,
( SPOILERS )
and when you fight the Final Boss , you discover that it's all based on memories ,
( END OF SPOILERS )
and the end is a big piece of crap !
The multiplayer version , it's the same , but you can play with your friends , and it's almost impossible to play , cause every player needs a nintendo advance , to play , and to do the spells is very hard ! !
I just hope that the sequel isn't as lame as this one ! !

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
This is possibly the worst game I've ever witnessed . I have no idea why Nintendo is getting hooked on this dumb idea where you must have four players to beat the game . The idea has already ruined that Legend of Zelda game . Also , the controls are so confusing to where I want to break the disc in half , which I almost did . Getting back to that four player thing , WHAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE FOUR PEOPLE TO PLAY ? ! Nintendo never thought of that and probably won't . I just wish that Nintendo wouldn't make games like that .
133 4 wow is the only word i gota say . this has what i have been waiting after being diaponted about FF x-s this is what to distract me from it . this has multiplayer ! ! ! yes u do need gba's but if u reserve it u get a free cable . also u can buy another cable . . . this is just a great game ! ! !
135 4 Final Fantasy is a deeply diverse series that has evolved for generations . Now , it makes it's return to Nintendo with Crystal Chronicles . Final Fantasy is an amazing series , and the new game is no dissapointment . It may not have extreme graphics , but neither did the classic FF and Mario games , and people still play them . If you can look past the graphics , then you'll really love the plot and new twists . But if you don't like the series or have never tried the others , you may not like this game . Its a must for RPG fans !
138 4 I haven't played FFCC so I'm just rating it on how I expect it to be . From what I have read and seen about the game is very promising , the graphics of FF9 are simular to the graphics of CC , but it works out this time aroung by sort of blending with the backgroung and the setting aroung you , the storyline seems interesting , in fact the only two things that I would really complain about is reassembling the magic that you aquire in each stage over and over and over again and the multiplayer in which you need at least two GBA's And at least two GBA cables ( which just seems like a way for Nintendo to make extra money to me ) in order to play it . But despite all that I for one am going to by FFCC , plus on the positive side you get to creat your own character which almost makes up for the multiplayer problem , almost . . . ( c'mon Nintendo there's four slots for four controllers lets use them ) .
139 4 final fantasy has gone a long way with there extremely detailed games , but unfortunatley there running out of ideas . these new games are NOT true to the final fantasy series that we once knew . final fantasy 3 ( my favorite game ) was by far the best one but these new FF games are just repititive but still fun , dont get me wrong . if you never played FF you will love this game . there great .
140 4 Yay , finally a ff game for the GCN . I've been waiting a long time . But wait a minute , whats that you say . A bucket ! You carry around a bucket the whole game and you have to stay in the buckets magical ring or you lose health . Oh , did i mention its not even turn-based . In other words this is gauntlet with the name final fantasy tattooed on it . Don't get me wrong , I love Gauntlet , but when i want a FF game , i want a final fantasy game .
This is all speculation , who knows the game might still be cool ( praying with all my heart ) . Also , to play multiplayer you need four gba's and four link cables . That is fantastically gay .
Give us a real GCN FF game please Square , or maybe kingdom hearts ( yeah right ) .
141 4 Alright , are you Japanese or something , here is a thing I can say about the Final Fantasy series , it's everchanging , lets take 7 and 10 for example , they are different , seven has it's materia system , 10 has it's newly revised battle system , and face it , you can say it's a fade just because it's different !
Okay , so having a real-time battle system may not be everyones cup of tea , buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut ! That does not mean that it is a fade , I MEAN YOU CAN LINK UP AND FIGHT WITH YOUR FRIENDS AGAINST MONSTERS !
I hope your not saying it's a fade because the graphics are not as realistic as FF 10 .
The new battle system gives a little more freedom , but so what , that doesn't mean it's bad !
The storyline might be a lot deeper than you think as you go through the game so don't just think the story is as bad as someguys stinky feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet !
The game is different , and it may not be as much of a RPG as the other FF games , but let's face it , we can just think that a new idea is bad just because it sounds bad , I mean you can cooperate with friends !
The new idea of have a portable crystal , is an awesome way to make sure yours friends don't run off on you !
Chow !
011 4 I think this was a mildly fun game . The idea of playing with 4 people sounded great at first , espeshilly w / 2 brothers , until I found that one of them must carry the bucket , put it down , pick it up , put it down . The casting spells togeather looked fun too , but it was easier and more effective doing them separate . The music was great , different , but great . However , there was almost no story , which ultimatly led me to think that square was going crazy because all the final fantasy games are known for their story telling . Like a re-birth of square and its writors . Thus , it was a mildy fun game , playing by yourself that is , just have an open mind when you play , and dont compare it to some of squares other work .
111 4 i really liked this game because it is fun and adictive and it draws you in with its great story line and beautiful graphics . i would recomend this game to be played with 2 or more people because although the one player is fun it is much much much more fun with two or more people playing . there is one thing that i don't like about it and it is that you have to use the gameboy-game cube link cable to play multiplayer , but other than that it is a great game and a must buy for final fantasy fans !
025 4 this game starts when you pick a character . . . . you can pick 8 but trust me after 1 year on the game , you'll only ever use one of them . . . . . . . . you say goodbye to your family and you go off w / a moogle to fight bad guys . the point of the game is to fill up this little glass jar w / this liquid . . .3 drops fills it so you go to three stages beat the boss and get one drop for each boss . then you go back to your home town everyone lives for another year then you do it again , again , and agian . . . .5,6 or 7 times . sounds fun huh . . . not ! ! ! ! there is almost no story advance in the first 4 years . . . . or about 7 - 10 hours . your characters only gain exp . by killing bosses so basicaly you can kill a million monsters and you wont get jack sh * t . the games has no pros other than the graphics . so if you you get this , dont expect much from this colum . the game isnt turn based , you run around the screen swinging your sword at monsters . . . and wishing you had a real one so you could smash this game to pieces . . . . you have magic but who cares cause you dont need it . . . only to heal . theres no random battles on the world map at all . now for the great challes . . i think the spelling is wrong . . . the challes is the thing that collects the drops of liquid and must go where you go or you will die . . . mog will carry it but he gets tired and makes you do it . . this becomes very iritating when your lost . this is what ruined the game in my opinion . the multiplayer is what the game is based on but you need gb sp and link cables to play . . . very expensive ! ! so if want to spend a fortune , not level up , do the same thing overe and over , carry a stupid little jar around , and basicaly not have any fun , then this games for you . . . enjoy !
054 4 & #60 ; br / & #62 ; This game is really interesting , the graphics are beutyful , but the gameplay isnt that good . You start deciding what kind of character you want to be and then you can make him better by exploring the wonderful lands of the game , wich will perplex you at an instant . This game is not recommended for kids , not because of the rating , is because of the really hard way to play and frustration it may give them . & #60 ; br / & #62 ; & #60 ; br / & #62 ; The game is a really good title for your library and is a well done game with great landscapes and fantastic music , and an excelent RPG for those who seek adventure . & #60 ; br / & #62 ; & #60 ; br / & #62 ; The only way you can play with more than 1 player is by having at least two or more gameboyadvance's or gameboyadvance SP's with each a gameboy advance cable connector , wich is really dissapointing .
059 4 I was looking forward to finally having a Final Fantasy game on my Gamecube , but I was very disappointed in this game . About the only good thing is the graphics . The game itself gets repetitive , all you do is carry a bucket around year after year through the same level . Soon it'll feel like your not getting anywhere in the game . I didn't even bother finishing the game , I gave up in the middle and moved on . Another thing is that the way the charecters move in the cutscenes are like the way the charecter in Zelda for the N64 move . I don't even understand why Nintendo even decided to have a Final Fantasy game like this . they should have compared this to all the other Final Fantasy . So I think you should save your money and buy something worth buying .
107 4 at first i didnt think i was going to get what i wanted but i decided to give them a chance anyway . now that i know that im going to get what im paying for im sure ill be making more purchases with amazon.com . so if your not sure about the delivery but youre sure the item is what you want go for it and give amazon.com a chance .
137 4 this game looks like thhe best i read a preveiew in a magizne and it looks like the best final fantisy game ever . it is suposed to be more like the Zelda serise because you have to block and atack at the right time to defeate your foes . oh and you have a Moogle this is a creature that carries the crystal cage that protecs you from posin that has coverd the earth this game is also multiplayer with a game boy advance . you can paint your moogle with your gbadv this is a advantage becaust painting your moogle cangive you different maps . this is all i have herd but it sounds great to me .
097 4 I think this is a wonderful game and I'm not going to listen if someone tries to tell me otherwise . I enjoy making up characters and towns . Of course , like any game , it gets frustrating when you lose a battle . I personally got stuck in Leuda desert and still haven't figured it out but I don't care . It didn't really matter much . I still think it is very fun and I play it a ton whenever I rent it . I don't have it yet , unfortanantly . But it is fun and awesome . I suggest you try it before you condem it .
038 4 Though you might think this game it a fun , turn-based strategy , it's not . It would be fun if it was longer and you didn't replay levels on the main quest . Though you easily get bored in the first few levels and vow never to play again . And all the people who wanted to preorder it . . .
043 4 the game is good . i have to say i didn't think i would like it but i found myself seeking the best items , collecting all of the artifacts and bringing friends to journey with me . the final boss reveals all . in game controls are well programed , and the story manages to thrill you while keeping you in the dark like a good mystery .
115 4 This game is the first final fantasy game to go on any other system besides playstation and gameboy advanced . I own this game already and I love it ! A few draw backs to the game is thta to play multiplayer you need a gameboy advnace and a gameboy to gamecube link . The game play is really good but some what dull at the start but when you get used to it its a blast . Take it from me Im 13 I love this game . This is a must have for any gemcube owner . * if you want to play multiplayer each player has to have a gameboy advance and a gameboy to gamecube link *
087 4 lovely graphics , great music . beat it in 30 hours , taking my time . . . not good ! if you have 4 friends who want to play this and have gameboys then you are lucky cause I could never get more than me and 1 friend together .
127 4 This is possibly the worst game I've ever witnessed .
113 4 as another revier said ninteno felt the need to be different all i can say to that is WHY i have played every f.f . game aside from the online edtions with zero problems and this one i cant because you need both hands very disapointing i could do the reglar battles ok but i got to a boss instant death bah
130 4 This game came with a Game Cube system my mom got from ebay , she said it didn't matter if it's TEEN rated ( i'm only 9 1 / 2 ) so 2 days later I tried it out , it has an outstanding intro , you get to pick the name of your town and get to pick what sort of person you want , I started it and it was to hard , I didn't know what to do . THAT IS WHY IT'S TEEN RATED ! So if you have a child that's under 12 , don't get it , it's just to hard .
Crystal Chronicles .
The uniqueness behind this game is the multiplayer aspect . This is the first time up to four people will be able to sit down at the same consol and participate in a real time Final Fantasy adventure . You can play alone with a GCN controller , or your GBA ( a GCN ~ GBA cord is required ) . Though , to play with more than one person , each player is REQUIRED to have their own GBA ( and cord ) . Yes , it is REQUIRED for multiplay , but it's not a bad thing .
You see , the game is played out in real time , not turn based as most RPGs are , so using their GBA , a player can access their map and menu without stopping play . The television shows the characters and enemies while the GBA will show maps and items . The characters being your choice , and choosing to use the same character oftenly will make him / her stronger . When making a character , players get the choice of gender , one of four races , and one of four classes .
I would recommend this product for anyone who enjoys team battles , RPGs , or fantasy games of any sort . I doubt anyone could be disappointed with this game .
116 4 this game is terrible . well , for one player , anyway . to be honest , if you don't have at least 3 people , it's not going to be good .
if you have one person , that moogle can carry your lamp for you . if you have 2 people , one the 2 people has to carry that stupid lamp around . in other words , you have one person fighting , and one person running away from enemies because they have that STUPID LAMP IN THEIR HANDS .
so with 3 , at least only 1 out of the three has to carry the stupid lamp around .
but it doesn't help that the game isn't that fun . it has very bad play control ( it takes your guy like a whole 2 seconds to attack after pressing the button ) .
the graphics are pretty , but not astounding .
replay ? hahahaha ! i didn't play it all the way though the first time ! who would ?
so yeah , get another game instead . suikoden IV and growlanser generations are out on ps2 , and they are way better .
Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
As alot of other reviewers have posted , this is NOT like other Final Fantasy games , it is quite different . This is not your in depth storyline game , it is mainly about a village ( any name you make ) that has what they call the Cyrstal Chronicle filled wit myrrth . The crystal that protects the town and it's inhabitants from pollution called miasma , which if a person wanders out of the crystals range , will die very slowely but however , the myrrth only lasts 2 years . The town will select you as their new Caravan , which are travelers for myrrth that are hailed throught the land . You have your own personallized chalice filled with the liquidized myrrth that your trusty Moogle carries it around for you , making travels easy on the limbs . Your character ( again , any name you make ) needs to journey through the land to collect myrrth . Myrrth is what powers the crystals to keep the towns folks safe and sound , but myrrth is not easy to get , just like any Final Fantasy game there are monsters that need to be defeated . There is a world map that needs to be traveled , just like any traditional Final Fantasy game , but it is a little different , there are at least 2 - 4 different dungeons that need to be completed , and each dungeon contains a different kind of myrrth that you can change your chalice to and at the end of the map there is a Miasma stream , and you need to swith your chalice's myrrth to match the Miasma stream , good examples of that are fire , wind , air , and earth . Now lets go on to the battle system . Do any of you remember the old Nintendo 64 game Quest 64 ? Well you can compair this game to that , the battle system is fairly similar . You can tap the A button for the normal attack , or hold it down and bring the cursor over an enemy to do a powerstrike , you can also go to your command list to fill your empty slots with fruit , meat , or magic spells to heal yourself or to inflict damage on an enemy , troggle through with the L and R button to select what you want , then just simply hold the A button then bringing your cursor over you to heal yourself with Cure , or over the enemy and then release it over the enemy , to use a magic spell . You can even combine eliments to create whole new magic spells . This is a great adventure RPG that should not be taken too seriousily , but however , some hardcore Final Fantasy fans may be dissapointed , don't come here if you're looking to play another Final Fantasy 7 , 8 , 9 , or 10 .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
many people say this game doesn't live up to the final fantasy name , which i really wouldnt no because im not a huge final fantasy fan , but this actually was the one that turned me on to the series , and some of the final fantasy games disapoint me when i compare them to this game .
the plot development is slow and subtle but thats not really a bad thing , its not like you start out your going to be the one to save the world ! your just helpin your village .
some people say your character is without personality , thats because YOU make your character so you see your character the way you want to , which i think you can flow with the game better with anyway .
as for fighting , its fun , i use a yuke ( the spellcaster race ) so i dont attack very much , but there are combo moves and you can stack spells to make stonger spells . the boss battles are always interesting , and when you revisit a boss itll have some thing new like a spell or attack , so it always interesting .
i wouldnt recomend this game to people looking to play another final fantasy because it is drasticly different , however id recomend this to anyone just lookin for a fun long game .

I think this was a mildly fun game .

Fred's Review :
I would not consider this a must buy game but i added it to the walkthrough and buyables section .

yeah , this game sucks various parts of a donkey's anatomy . I advise anyone with half a functioning brain cell to avoid it like the plague ! You may ask why this game is bad well the main reason is this : THE BUCKET ! Yes thats right a bucket , you must take this bucket with you since it protects you from a deadly fog . Oh my God its fog , run away ( sarcasm ) ! I would advise the reader of my informative unbaised review to play a real game such as shenmue or skies of arcadia , you can even play superman 64 , yes even that is better than this crystal suckacles ( note my clever misspelling ) . ha ha ha I winnnnnnn ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I convinced three friends of mine to get GBAs and link cables when Nintendo was pushing the whole connectivity thing . We all thought that a whole flurry of these GBA / GC games would come out and it would be awesome . What we got was Four Swords , a good game , and Crystal Chronicles , one of the most mediocre games I've ever played .
I'm an old school RPG player . I was playing them before they got popularized . I remember Final Fantasy 1 and the original Dragon Warrior with very fond memories . I must have beaten each at least a dozen times . RPGs have come a long way since then , especially with the incorporation of great interactive story lines . So I expect both a challenge and some involved storyline in an RPG . Maybe that's my problem .
Crystal Chronicles is ridiculously easy . You run around and smash the A button . Sure you can do combos with people if you want , but they are completely unnecessary . There is no incentive to work together , which I feel defeats the point of having a 4 player cooperative game .
Crystal Chronicles has a very basic theme . I wouldn't call it a storyline because there is no progression . Basically , you must collect Myrhh every season or so to prevent your town from being destroyed . That's it . Do that for a while and you can beat the game . There's no sense of accomplishment because you do the same thing over and over , and you never get anywhere .
When this game was coming out I was expecting an epic storylined Final Fantasy game which incorporated a four player game system something like Secret of Mana with four people . What we got was a game with some pretty cut scenes and terrible gameplay , without any story at all . It reminds me a bit of the old CD-i Zelda games that Phillips released . Those were slightly worse than this game .
Do not buy . If you have four GBAs , I recommend picking up Nintendo's Four Swords instead .

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was an extremely anticipated game for all of us Final Fantasy fans . The game however is nothing like anything we've ever seen before . Unfotunately thats not a good thing . The new gameplay , unlike the amazing battle system of final fantasy XII , is boring , difficult to use , and unproductive . The story is boring and extremely repetitive . You chase all over the world chasing after crystals and meeting some extremely cheesy characters along the way . If I were you I would rent the game ( You could probably beat it in a day ) and never play it again .

Yep . The Game Informer review said everything about this game . I bought this piece of crap played it for the first 2 years and just stopped playing it . It was a good idea , but if it had had a plot , then it would have been awesome . There was absolutely NO plot in this game . Gameplay was pretty good , except that you had to regain spells after each level ( = annoying ) .
When I say
don't buy this game
I'm ALSO saying
Don't throw your money in the garbage
Ahh , the joys of Multitasking .

From what I played , I did enjoy it . The one thing that got me so frustrated was the controls , which is why I never finished the game . I'm glad that they have improved that for the DS sequel ( Ring of Fates ) . My hope for this game is that they make a Wii version and reformat the control system ( like Nintendo has done for Pikmin ) . Or if they made a DS version of this game too , I would be happy with that !

It's not the best of all Final Fantasy series , however , for a decent collector like myself it's satisfying and sufficient . I absolutely would recommend it for collectors and fans only , not beginners .

The gameplay is entertaining . I enjoy the free-based battles over turn-based and active time-based any day . The artifact system is good , but can offer a few set backs , as well . The magic system is good , too . I don't mind the fact that you lose magic after each level . And if you have something to complain about that , then just get the magic rings . I also enjoy the recipe system that's used in this game . But I never could get some smiths to forge certain items .
There are a few things that bother me . One is that you have to have GBAs and specified cables in order to do multiplayer , which I hate because I , as well as my sister and brother-in-law , have an NDS system , but there is no way to link them to the Gamecube . Another thing that is bothersome about multiplayer is the fact that one other person has to carry the chalice around , which kinda makes it pointless to do 2 - player sometimes , since most of the time , the other person has to carry the chalice .
Otherwise , all in all , this is a fun game . The music is nice , graphics are good for its time , and it has some challenge to it .

I previously wrote a review about this game about 4 1 / 2 years ago . Back then , i was eagerly hyped about it because this was my first experience with Final Fantasy . Sadly to say 4 1 / 2 years later , i've grown disillusioned with the game . For one thing as a single player , i haven't beat the final boss of the game . He's just too strong and it took me 20 years to get my character at his current level ( game time that is ) . The story is great , with slow plot development which allows for continous play in order to figure out what will happen next . Character development is poor , taking a long time in order to level up the character via items and power-ups . Replay value is among the poorest i've seen in a game . Once you beat it , it just goes on the shelf . Maybe because i'm currently a College studnt and i don't have the time but i've been playing video games since 1989 and can tell that this game is HEAVILY geared towards multi-player . I'm at a disadvantage since i'm the only palying it . so as much as the music , plot development and quality , it gets 5 stars but because of its very low replay value and long time to power / level-up your character , it gets 3 stars .

I'm at a disadvantage since i'm the only palying it . so as much as the music , plot development and quality , it gets 5 stars but because of its very low replay value and long time to power / level-up your character , it gets 3 stars .

Now I know a bunch of nerds are gonna say that i'm wrong , but if you like final fantasy 1 - 10 , then skip this one.It is nothing like the other final fantasy games. But if you like final fantasy mystic quest ( for the super nintendo ) then go ahead and buy this. When I first rented this I had high hopes for it , I heard it was like Final fantasy IX ( IX = nine ) but you made your own warrior . . . it was nothing like any final fantasy game I ever played , the music in the game sucks and its lack of story is amazing , I have no freakin ' clue whats going on !
So over all , don't buy this piece of crap .

Ok when i got this game i was pretty excited . i had heard a lot of good things about final fantasy games . it wasnt all i thought it would be though . i personally dont like the fighting system and the magic is very limited and its annoying to try to cast a spell bcause you have to hold down a button , wait for the blue ring to appear then move the ring to where you want the spell to hit . the graphics are good though and you ride a caravan across four different sections of the world map trying to recover myrrh which holds off a deadly disease , miasma threatening the life of towns everywhere . a variety of things can happen along your journey . you can meet people from other tribes and you also keep track of a diary . i would advise your money for a better game .

I preordered this game and took it back a week after I got it . The story is contrived and the gameplay is unfriendly . My friends swore it was better when you played with others , but I found myself just as bored . I especially didn't like using the Gameboy Advance with it ; the GameCube controller is much more comfortable . On the plus-side , the sound and graphics are decent , but that doesn't make a game , however .

I'd always wanted this game , but never got the gumption to buy it . I eventually purchased a used copy and was severely disappointed . as the Game Informer review says , gameplay is ' frustrating ' and the plot was completely lacking . When I played i saw no point . There was no saving the world , no powering up awesome weapons , just running around in a bubble . I expected more from a game from square .

Okay , so yeah this game was alright . Graphics were astounding in their clarity and realism , but I have to say , the stupid miasma stream started to seriously grind on my nerves . When I first started the game and beat the first three boss monsters i completely forgot to change the crystal chalice's element to fire . How the hell was I to know that I would need it in the future ? I mean , really , the element of the nest stream was earth so I naturally thought I needn't worry about the fire element . Stupid , stupid , stupid ! When I got to the nest level I was completely lost and unable to continue , thus forcing me to start the game over , again . Someone please shoot me . . .

094 4 This game rocks i'm telling you if you have a game cube there are 3 games you must have super smash bros . melle , pokemon colleseum ( . . . ) , and ff crystal chronichles . even though the camera sucks and if you or pet isn't carrying a bucket you lose life and you have to carry it wich really sucks when your fighting a boss but overall this game is awesome .

I think this is a wonderful game and I'm not going to listen if someone tries to tell me otherwise .

Final Fantasy Rocks ! ! ! !

This is what an RPG game should be . . . Beautiful , fun , and challenging . A game that actually makes you think . I was a fan of Final Fantasy I & II , but was disappointed to see the direction the game went in three , and was very turned off by all the games that followed . I trully dislike linear games , so I was happy to see how open-ended and rich this game was . I especially enjoyed the way Nintendo incorporated using the Gameboys with the game . If you are a fan of most of the Final Fantasy games , then you probably won't like this game . . . But if you enjoy a GOOD rpg game and have a hard time finding games that satisfy your longing to explore an amazing world with new challenges , then I recommend this game for you !

This game came with a Game Cube system my mom got from ebay , she said it didn't matter if it's TEEN rated ( i'm only 9 1 / 2 ) so 2 days later I tried it out , it has an outstanding intro , you get to pick the name of your town and get to pick what sort of person you want , I started it and it was to hard , I didn't know what to do . THAT IS WHY IT'S TEEN RATED ! So if you have a child that's under 12 , don't get it , it's just to hard .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
Many fans of the Final Fantasy series complain that this is not a true FF , as it lacks any amount of substantive plot , character interaction and development , and the series ' overall trademark epicness . This is all true ; however , Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles , though it may be something totally new and completely unorthodox for the series , carries the same immense quality in art , music , and gameplay that have set the Final Fantasy series ahead of its competitors .
FF : CC is indeed an action RPG , in that it has no set battle sequences and no experience system per se , but rather seems like a much , much updated spiritual sequel to The Secret of Mana . Like Secret of Mana , it encourages ( practically requires ) multiplayer teamwork to defeat monsters and solve puzzles .
Therein is the game's largest downfall as well : without a friend or three , FF : CC can be a downright boring experience . However , utilizing the GameBoy Advance link system to hook up GameBoys to a GameCube , FF : CC offers a unique and rewarding multiplayer experience . Because every player has his or her own private screen , FF : CC can offer a large amount of character customization and tweaking throughout the game ( weapons , armor , items , etc . ) without making every player wait while one sets up his character . This allows for a depth of gameplay that is unmatched by any other cooperative console multiplayer game .
FF : CC may have little plot and character depth , but this is because it is largely an open-ended RPG . That is to say , the characters are little more than avatars representing the players , and character interaction occurs between friends playing the game . The plot is original but not very fleshed-out ; it serves mostly as a vehicle for the game to proceed , and for some of the more interesting gameplay elements . One such element is the much-maligned crystal chalice system , by which every character , when moving inside a dungeon , must remain within a set ( and clearly marked ) radius of whichever character is currently holding the crystal chalice , an item which repels the poisonous atmosphere of the Crystal Chronicles world ( reminiscent of Miyazaki's Nausic。 ä , which is coincidentally the source of certain staple of the Final Fantasy series . . . ) . The crystal chalice system , far from being an impediment to the game , rather adds a new and quite fun element to the teamwork required to succeed .
The game's artwork is exceptional , offering a rich and unique world that the player can immerse himself into . The world of Crystal Chronicles is immensely sad , almost post-apocalyptic , in that everywhere except small , isolated villages , a very deadly gas covers the entire planet . It is a testament to the game's artwork and music that FF : CC remains basically a light-hearted gameplay experience . The music itself is extraordinary , having no similarity to any other game or movie soundtrack . The composer chose an array of medieval instruments on which the soundtrack is based . The effect is superb and extremely unique .
All in all , while FF : CC may not resemble any other Final Fantasy game , an indeed be ambiguous as to whether it can be called an RPG or not , a player will not be disappointed , as long as there are others willing to play along .
005 4 If you're looking for a Final Fantasy game like those in the more well-known series ( IX , X , X - 2 etc ) then you're in for a disappointment . The only things it has in common is the name and some of the monsters , bosses and spells . Oh yeah , and the moogles .
I've come to expect excellence from Final Fantasy games and find that the GameCube installment falls far short . While the graphics , art and sound are still incredibly well-done , the story is nowhere near as deep and engaging and character development is next to non-existent . Quite frankly , the biggest thing this game lacks is , well . . . heart .
I confess I haven't finished the game . I've gotten to the point where I've collected myrrh from all levels except the very final one ( where you have to use the ' mystery ' element to cross the miasma stream ) . I'm now at the stage where I'm revisting dungeons I've already completed to level up , collect more items to build weapons etc before continuing to the final dungeon . I'm seriously considering not even bothering to complete the game . There is nothing about the plot development in the story that has made me care enough about the characters or what happens to their world to mindlessly repeat identical levels just to get to the ending .
Yes , the real time action-based battles are an interesting twist . The problem is that it doesn't vary much and while others may say that there's strategy involved , I've seen better . Even in single player mode , boss battles , though long haven't been difficult .
I've heard that the multiplayer mode is much more fun . However , given that each player would then require a Gameboy Advance of his / her own as well as a connection cable to play , it's just not likely to happen in my house .
While I appreciate the amount of effort that goes into game design , artificially lengthening a game by making the player revisit levels sometimes 2 or more times after it's first cleared is cheap and definitely not up to the standard set up by SquareSoft in their previous games . Heck , even the narrated introduction of each level is identical each time you revisit it . Nothing changes .
I bought this game and I'm sorry I did . I really believe this game to be substandard , period . It doesn't matter if it had a different title and didn't have the Final Fantasy legacy to live up to . The gameplay is mediocre , the storyline is weak and the character ( s ) are one-dimensional . Not what I'd expect from any game that has a lasting place in my video game library .
My advice ? Rent it first . If you like it that much , you can then buy it . If you don't then you haven't wasted the money like I did .
045 4 From what I played , I did enjoy it .

Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles ( Video Game )
My brother owns this game , and he got me to play it through the GBA connectivity . This is the first ( and only ) Final Fantasy game I've ever played , and while he likes it , I think it's got several good ideas which are never fully used . As I have for my Amazon.com reviews of Metroid Prime 2 : Echoes and Rayman DS , I shall now give this game a Multi-Category Review . For those of you unfamiliar with my review system , I rate a game on 7 separate categories , which I call Graphics , Sound , Plotline , Control , Glitches , Entertainment , and Replay value , and I rate on a scale of 1 ( worst ) to 10 ( best ) , which I find works better than a five-star rating system ( sorry , Amazon ) . Then I take an average of each rating to create a final Overall Rating .
Well , let's see how well this game does its magic tricks .
GRAPHICS : One word here : WOW . No , seriously , this almost looks like a game from the next console generation . Spell effects are astounding , water effects are even better than Pikmin's ( and that game up until this point had the best water effects around ) , and character models are excellent . Even the Moogles ( which I call flying hamsters ) have fur effects rivaling those in StarFox Adventures : Dinosaur Planet . I can't see why I would give this category any less than a perfect rating . RATING : 10
SOUND : The music fits perfectly and sounds excellent , but boss battle and main menu music has no variety . RATING : 8
PLOTLINE : You live in some magical happy place that's not so happy now that the land is covered with a miasma which burns any who touch it to death . The people protect themselves with big crystals that generate force fields that keep out this airborne poison , which must be recharged with myrrh once a year . That's where you come in . Playing as either a Clavat ( which I call a slowpoke ) , a Yuke ( some bird thingie ) , a Selkie ( who are thieves ) , or a Lilitie ( an angry midget ) , you must go on a crystal caravan and fight the same bosses and enemies over and over to get your precious myrrh . If the concept doesn't already seem to be a coincidental rip-off of Metroid Prime 2 : Echoes's Dark Aether , the action can get repetitive , and some stages are just way too long . The miasma stream areas are just annoying , and the game obviously tries but fails to create a deep and engaging storyline .
Sorry , Crystal Chronicles . Maybe in the upcoming sequel for the DS . RATING : 6
CONTROL : Single-player is near perfect , but multiplayer GBA smells like Moogle droppings . The D-pad is never a good substitute for a control stick , and accessing items is tedious , bogs down the rest of the group , and leaves you wide open to attack . Here , it's a mixed bag . RATING : 6.5
GLITCHES : Thankfully , this game has no glitches or bugs , except for the occasional collision issue . The miasma must have wiped them all out . RATING : 9
ENTERTAINMENT : There are other games that are more enjoyable , but there are also some which Crystal Chronicles beats . RATING : 7
REPLAY VALUE : Good for the first few years in the game , then you'll quit . RATING : 5
OVERALL RATING : 7.4
A FINAL WORD : This is just an average game . Now , if you'll excuse me , I have to go exterminate some more Ing for U-Mos in Metroid Prime 2 .

032 4 Simply put , WOW . What I mean is WOW , this is a TERRIBLE game . The battle system in this game is like nothing I've ever seen before , it's comlete trash . And the story , that just does it . Well actually , there isn't really a story . The whole game ( or at least what I've played of it , which isn't too much , because the game never got better ) is just about a group of little kids collecting special material called myrrh from myrrh trees and bringing them back to their town so they don't die . I thought there might be some twists in the plot as the game progressed but noooo . There has been nothing more . If you consider that fun and amusing , I question your sanity . The badness ( if that is a word ) of this game is too much to take . If I could , I would give this game 0 stars , but unfortunatley that is not an option . I wonder what the creators of this game were thinking when they were making it . I really never thought there could be a bad final fantasy game until I played this . It is unlike any final fantasy game out there , it's bad . It should be disowned from the final fantasy series . If you want classic and good final fantasy action , get a PS2 ( I regret not getting one myself , and now I am stuck with this childish Gamecube ) . Oh , and just to sum things up a bit , DON'T BUY THIS GAME . If you are looking for a good Gamecube RPG , Tales of Symphonia is where it's at ! : )

Why does everyone HATE this game ? ? ? ? ? I loved it ! In this game you can create your own characters , build your own adventures and a lot more .
GAMEPLAY : 10 / 10 it's FINAL FANTASY , people , OK ? why wouldn't the gameplay be great ?
GRAPHICS : 9.10 / 10 I like the graphics . They are definitely GC graphics and the type of graphics that would be in an GC FF game .
MUSIC : 10 / 10 especially because of the battle music . It's pretty SA-WEET .
NARRATING : 3 / 10 because there isn't much , here - You Know the catch , we've heard better narration . : - ) .
SOUND : 10 / 10 I like the noises . They're really awesome .
OVERALL THOUGHTS
Pretty cool . It focuses more on Combat and exploration than story . But AVOID THESE HATE REVIEWS , and just play this damn cool game today !

Seriously please do not buy this game . It's literally terrible . My ex bf loved it and he was stupid and mindless , however EVERYONE ELSE hated this game . Its boring , easy and pointless . Also to have multiple players you have to have multiple game boy advances and wires . So I had to go half and half to buy game boy advances to get my 3 friends to play with me .
I hated Final Fantasy assuming they were all like this until I played 9 then 7 and LOVED those , they had a story . . . there is no story at all to this game it's just stupid little battles here and there and you have to carry a chalice . I don't think there is an end you play years and fill said chalice then restart all levels again for next year .
This is only good if your a kid and ever played a video game before .

im a big final fantasy fan i have this game ff7 , ff9 , and ff10 but i can say one thing NO TURNED BASED BATTLE SYSTEM ! ! ! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ! i love final fantsy games but i hate the turned based battle system ! and this game is a final fantasy game without a turned base battle system ! but there are a few bad things about this game , there is a poison fog in the game called miasma and is fatal to all the people in the world and since its fatal to anyone and you need to carry a little pale with a crystal in it but if you carry it how are you going to hack and slash ? so you can't just go in any level all by your self either you have someone carry it ( multiplayer mode ) or you have your moogle carry it ( singleplayer mode ) . and when this came out they said you can create your own character and that just drove me crazy ! i love to create my own character ! but it turns out you don't really create he / she you just choose from a small variety of hes / shes and thats where i got dissapointed , you can't actually CREATE your character like tony hawk underground . and you can't just invite a few friends over to play it you need to have friends that have a gameboy advance / link cable .

DO NOT BE FOOLED into such logic . This is quite possibly the worst game I have played in quite some time , and definitely the ONLY one I have EVER played where the best boss strategy was - - wait for it - - standing directly in front of the boss and mashing the A button . I mashed my way through 5 hours of this game , people , and I even beat one of the bosses while eating a sandwich and not fully turning back toward the screen until I heard the myrrh tree music . Make no mistake , this is no incredible feat on my part : this game is really that stupid .
In addition to the incredibly low level of challenge ( god , was this game marketed for 10 - year-olds ? Then you shouldn't have put the FF title on it , Nintendo / SE ! ) , I haven't seen a game this repetitive since Pacman . You heard me . It's as repetitive as an arcade game - only it was RELEASED IN 2004 . This is truly a development that should put Square Enix to shame . All you do , per level , is wheel around in your crystal caravan , watching 10 - second cutscenes at random , and fight your way through three levels ( of your choice ) til you fill your chalice with myrrh . W.O.W . Each level honestly takes fewer than 10 minutes , so you will probably complete a chapter in all of 30 . What do you do for the next chapter , you ask ? Does the plot advance ? The answer is NO . You do the SAME DARN THING . AGAIN . After a few chapters pass , you even have the option of going back to the levels you have already visited . Gosh . What an EXCITING idea .
The ONLY cool things about this game - - and believe me , I really mean this part - - are graphics , which are beautiful , and character customization , though that is of course minimal . But compared to the rest of the game , I don't know , I guess I'll take anything .
Yet another complaint of mine is the rotating camera angle . For GOOD games , this isn't a problem , and your typical gamer would be hard put to find a situation in which it was actually a bad thing . But in FFCC , unlike most [ good ] RPGs , the game is MAPLESS - so don't you dare wander around in a town you aren't familiar with , or else you'll be running in circles forever due to the rotating camera that makes it impossible to tell which way you just came from - - because you are - always - facing a different direction . I'm sure I've actually spent longer wandering stupidly in pointless towns where the townsfolk tell you parts of a story you aren't privy to than I've spent fighting bosses . Navigating was certainly more DIFFICULT , that's for sure .
In closing , the only reason I still own this game is because the store I purchased it from went out of business and I can no longer return it . Today , however , following this review , I will put this p.o.s . to rest underneath my massive pile of well-developed PS2 RPG's and forget it ever existed .

Nintendo for some reason tends to be stubborn .
