Final Fantasy Chronicles (Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV)

  • 143 4  Having sadly missed out on both these games in my earlier days of video gaming i am thrilled to be able to have a chance to play these 2 games which are regaded as classics by most games . I wasn't dissappointed with this purchase , these games live up to thier reputations . Granted the graphics aren't up to the level that we are used to today , but the story and gameplay are more then enough to make up for this . I mean come on these are classics . These days we are to spoiled with pretty games with little or no plot , these games are refreshing and fun . Buy this if you are a fan of RPG's , classic 16 - bit gaming , or just great games in general then buy this .
    • 051 4  If your like me and you are tired of the shallow games with little play time and a story line thinner than deli meat pick this up . Both games have a rich story line and excellent game play . Enjoy .
    • 066 4  What a deal , these two games are simply amazing ! You cant go wrong by buying this !
    • 094 4  Old classics . You can't go wrong . If you like rpg then you'll like these two games . What else can I say . I love them
    • 121 4  This is one of the best games I have ever played . Anyone who is sceptical just needs to pick a controller and go . You won't be dissappointed .
    • 145 4  This was a great RPG mix with two of the greatest games of all time plus new eye popping synamatic sequences and I highly recomend it to any gamer .

  • Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) I have to admit that I mostly bought this collection for Chrono Trigger , and as such I'll have to remain silent about Final Fantasy IV . As far as the latter is concerned , I've only played through about five minutes , and while I liked what I saw , I don't feel confident that I can review it well at this time . My score for this product is limited to CT . The game itself is almost legendary among gamers , and so I will have to assume that you are already familiar with its good points ( found in many , many other reviews on this site ) and delve straight into the reasons why I was disappointed with this release . Bear in mind that the game itself is NOT one of my main criticisms , and the two-star rating is not indicative of my dissatisfaction with the storyline , graphics , characterizations , and so forth . Rather , my griping deals with its delivery on the PSX . The loading times are terrible . I've heard a lot of explanations for WHY these loading times exist , such as cartridges ( e.g . the original SNES cartridge for CT ) don't take as long to load as CDs , and that this PSX version actually runs an emulator that converts the original SNES data into something the PSX can load , hence creating delays that weren't present in the original . I don't entirely understand these explanations since I'm not familiar with the technical or hardware end of things : what I do know is that this game runs ridiculously , embarrassingly slow . Every time you engage in a battle , everything freezes and you're stuck there waiting for the battle to begin . Since I bought a PS2 these load times have gone down substantially and so now they're maybe only ten seconds or so , but I remember on my original PSX the load time before a battle would oftentimes be as long as two or three minutes . And I'm not just talking about boss battles , I'm talking about run-of-the-mill ordinary battles that you run into ALL THE TIME . Even on a PS2 , those ten-second delays would add up very quickly . I also dreaded every time I had to open the menu because then I'd have to wait a long time for it to pop up . This is especially annoying when you're doing battle on a moving area , like an elevator or conveyor belt , because the otherwise beautiful flowing backgrounds become halting and jerky . The most embarrassing example of this is the final battle against Lavos . During the battle , he'll frequently shift the time period of the battle , and this involves changing the floating background image . On the original SNES this was a really cool , if not totally useless design feature . On the PSX , this makes an already long battle even longer because the game hangs up for a little while before each scene change . And at the end , when you finally kill him for good , his death sequence involves rapidly flashing through different time periods . On the SNES this was awesome ; on the PSX this is totally lame , because each scene change is preceded by a delay . Unlike the SNES game , it didn't leave you feeling satisfied that you had just beaten the hardest boss in the game , it leaves you feeling frustrated that the designers for the PSX port couldn't fix this . I'm a big fan of Akira Toriyama's work , and thus I was very pleased with the inclusion of anime cut scenes . However , I have a VERY large gripe : the US release does not translate the Japanese subtitles . Normally it's not a problem because most of the cut scenes don't have any dialogue at all , but I can think of two off the top of my head that do . ( SPOILER WARNING FOR THE REST OF THIS PARAGRAPH ) When Chrono is killed , there is a brief flashback to Janus ( as a kid ) telling the party that one of them will die soon . That one's not too bad , since you can kind of figure out for yourself what's going on in this scene ( especially since it's a flashback of something that happened in-game ) . However , the second scene , which you can see when you beat any of the game's endings , involves the downfall of Guardia and the rise of Porre . This is a pretty crucial bit of information that should've been translated since 1 ) you can't figure that stuff out just by playing the game itself , 2 ) it sets up the story for Chrono Cross , and 3 ) the scene itself is just impossible to understand unless you can read the Japanese subtitles . I can't imagine why they didn't bother to translate this stuff , especially since they translated the PSX team credits ( which appear to also be in FMV format ) . Speaking of translation , I'm a little disappointed that this game did not receive a retranslation , as FF4 did . Don't get me wrong , I think Ted Woolsey did a decent job with CT . However , it's undeniable that a lot of changes had to be made when they brought it over to the West , whether it was in shortening text to fit into the SNES's format , localizing dialogue to be more accessible to young American children , or in censoring references to religion , alcohol , sexuality , and so forth . Furthermore , Woolsey's translation sometimes hiccuped , leaving behind either plot holes that didn't previously exist or ambiguous lines that were actually intended to be much stronger in the original Japanese . I realize that it would've been a lot of trouble for Square to give a retranslation for something that they thought already had a solid translation , so this aspect was not factored too heavily into my scoring of the game ; it just would've been really nice , especially since , as I said , FF4 received a retranslation . I hesitate to recommend this version of the game to first-time players . I think CT is a game that all RPG fans should at least be familiar with , but I'm not sure this PSX version is the one they should cut their teeth on . If you're like me and you've already played this game dozens of times on the SNES , skip this one . ( Unless of course you're buying it for FF4 . ) Stick with the original SNES cartridge , and hope for a GBA / DS / Wii VC conversion at some point in the future . The load times are simply unbearable , especially if you're used to the quick pace of the original .
    • 001 4  This is actually two old-school console RPGs in one set of packaging . Why the collection is called Final Fantasy Chronicles instead of Chrono Fantasy or something like that , I don't know , but the important point is : One of the two games included is Chrono Trigger . Chrono Trigger remains the greatest console RPG ever made . The version on this new CD compilation is identical in play to the original , but includes several animated cutscenes ( done by Bird Studios , producers of Dragonball / DBZ and owned / operated by Akira Toriyama , who did the character designs for Chrono Trigger as well ) which are themselves worth the price . ( In point of fact , the price itself is interesting ; the compilation of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 4 costs less than either of them did separately when first released . ) Chrono Trigger centers around the adventures of Crono ( yes , that's the correct spelling ) , a young man whose only apparent unusual feature is skill with a sword ; otherwise , he lives a rather ordinary life , getting his allowance from his mom , taking care of his pet cat , and , as the story begins , looking forward to the Millennial Fair . At the Fair , he meets with a pretty blonde girl , Marle , who wears an interesting pendant , and who as a stranger to his town asks him if he'd be nice enough to show her around a bit . Things get strange when they visit the exhibit area of one of Crono's friends , Lucca , who's an eccentric inventor . Her invention mysteriously reacts to the presence of Marle's pendant , and Marle vanishes , leaving the glowing pendant behind . When Crono decides to follow her wherever she's gone and bring her back , he's catapulted into a time-spanning adventure which will take him from the present to 65 million years in the past , and thousands of years in the future , and eventually to confront a world-destroying monster which may , at the same time , have been responsible for the creation of Crono's own civilization . Along the way he will learn secrets of his world's history , gain new powers , and gather allies , ranging from the super-strong cavegirl Ayla to the technologically advanced machine-man Robo . Chrono Trigger's greatest claim to fame was , and is , that it boasts many possible endings , all quite different , based on what decisions you make during the game . They're not all easily predictable , either , and at least one or two are rather creepy . It's also interesting in that , after a certain point , you no longer have to keep Crono in your party ( most games have a set viewpoint character that you have to keep around ) . It's quite possible to finish the game with * ANY * combination of available characters . Gameplay is , in my opinion , superior to that of any of the Final Fantasy games . For one thing , it avoids the eternally wandering monster phenomenon which makes overland travel in the FF series so damnably frustrating , while still allowing you to wander freely across the land and visit places , looking for clues , new things to buy , and new friends and allies . For another , the combat sequences are much more active than those of other RPGs of its same era , and include special techniques - - both for individuals AND ones combining the techniques of two or three characters at once . Once you beat the game , you have the option of using new game + , which allows you to start with the same power , and most of the items , that you'd gained along the way the first time . This is useful for those trying to play through again , since it allows you to zip through combats which , the first time , took many minutes to complete . ( it does , however , introduce a bit of cognitive dissonance , especially in the early parts of the game : How the heck are they throwing ME in jail ? ! I have enough power to level this entire CASTLE by myself ! ) The soundtrack of Chrono Trigger is unbelieveably good . Somehow , through the miracle of MIDI , the original game had 3 full CDs worth of music crammed on it , and the skill with which the MIDI was composed and produced made it sound , at the time , very nearly orchestral . Even today the sound isn't bad , and the re-done , fully orchestral version is amazing . Each major character has its own theme , and they're all excellent . Chrono Trigger's soundtrack still rates as one of my absolute favorites . If you like console RPGs at all , this is one that you absolutely MUST buy , and keep enshrined somewhere .
    • 002 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Two RPG masterpieces , Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger , have been re-released in this great package with some nice additions . I'll be reviewing the two games . FINAL FANTASY IV INTRO : In 1991 , FFIV was originally released in America for the SNES under the name , Final Fantasy II . But the SNES version was pretty flawed . For one thing , they censored the script and and it was horribly translated . Another thing is that they took out a few things , such as the Developer's Room . Also , they toned down the difficulty . Now the game has been re-released for the PS1 with the complete , uncut script , Developer's Room , and a harder difficulty . GAMEPLAY : This was the first FF game to have more than the number of characters in your party . ( you can have up to five characters in your party . Sweet ! ) The game has lots of secrets , spells , weapons , and summons . It's a really addicting RPG with a great challenge . GRAPHICS : Meh . It was made in 1991 , so of course the graphics look outdated . But they were good for the time . SOUND : Not much to say about the sound . It's your standard SNES sound . MUSIC : I love the music in this game . Even 14 years later , the music still packs a punch . I especially love the boss music . It's very catchy . STORY : This game has a great story . I won't spoil it for you , but the story is very original , filled with plot twists . ADDED EXTRAS : Besides having the complete , uncut game , not much . Just an FMV scene . CHRONO TRIGGER INTRO : Ten years ago , CT was released for the SNES . Even now , it's still one of the most loved and popular RPG's ever . Now it's been re-released with a ton of extras . GAMEPLAY : CT is an RPG . However , there are things that are special about this game . For one thing the battle system is unique . You can use moves that combine different characters . It's a bit hard to explain . Another thing that makes this game unique is the fact that you can time travel . You can alter the past , and have fun . Plus , more eras mean more sidequests . GRAPHICS : Very ahead of its time . CT's graphics were beautiful , from the colorful 2D textures , to the forests , the graphics were topnotch . MUSIC : Like most RPG's , CT has an epic musical score . SOUND : Pretty good for 1995 . STORY : The story , I believe , is solid . It isn't the best RPG story ever , but it is easy to understand and very entertaining . REPLAY VALUE : Most RPG's don't really have a replay value , but this does . Once you beat the game , you can do a New Game + , which allows you to start the game over with everything you had on the first game . Plus , there are many , [ and I mean MANY ! ] endings to unlock . ADDED EXTRAS : Awesome anime cutscenes , and much more ! OVERALL : Two epic RPG's in one package . A must have .

    • 004 4  Even though I am a member of the played them already club , these games still never fail to disappoint . Chrono Trigger is a timeless ( no pun intended ) classic that will entertain you each and every time through . And FF IV is the pioneering FF for North America , and now is probably the most challenging FF out there ( the Japanese FF III is probably the toughest of all 9 Final Fantasy games ) . Those of you who have played the FF Anthology know how horrible the loading times were in each game - fear not . The loading time in FF IV is non-existant . The only parts that take a while is when you are saving and loading your game , which is expected with memory cards . Chrono Trigger is slow at times - most notably when you start / finish a battle and access the menu screen . Most of it is negligable in my opinion . Even if you own both original cartridges , it's worth it to play FF IV again , as it is like a completely new game , with a new translation and it's UNCENSORED ! ! ! That's right , what Japan got originally we now have . Get it right now .
    • 006 4  The original Final Fantasy Anthology released in Japan contained versions of FF IV ( known in a watered-down version to US fans as FF 2 ) , FF V ( never released in the US ) , and FF VI ( aka FF 3 to Americans ) . However , supposedly due to glitches in the gameplay , Final Fantasy IV was not included in the Anthology's US release . Square has remedied this omission brilliantly with the release of Final Fantasy Chronicles for the US . To many people , Final Fantasy II on the Super Nintendo set the standard for console RPGs to follow with its non-linear gameplay , involved story line , detailed characters , and beautiful musical score . Yet we all had to put up with a poor translation and a game made easier for the US audience until now - - and now US gamers can experience the game as it was meant to be , including updated FMV opening and ending sequences and all the secrets left out of the original US release . As a bonus , this release also includes another Square RPG , Chrono Trigger , in a similarly full-featured adaptation from its original console . No Final Fantasy fan can be without this title in their library !
    • 007 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) This is a really nice remake of a great classic ( FFIV ) . They improved the dialogue , and added in a lot of great items . The challenge level , however , was bumped up significantly . The game was originally paced so you didn't have to spend nearly as much time leveling up . A few of the bosses surprised me this time through ( I've played the SNES version multiple times in my day ) . The story is unchanged , however . A must have for any FF / Classic RPG fan ! As a bonus , I finally got to play Chrono Trigger !

    • 009 4  Frankly I don't know why people loved FF : Anthology so much . . . it really wasn't that good . I mean , FF6 was better on the SNES , minus the FMV , and FF5 wasn't that good to begin with . This , on the other hand , features Chrono Trigger , a rather good game , and a highly enhanced version of Final Fantasy IV , the game that launched the series into the main character-based RPG series in history ! Personally , I say go with this package , definately ! ! Chrono Trigger is a good game , with nice SNES graphics that're almost as good as Super Mario RPG's , decent music ( although no FF6 , and certainly not Yasonuri Mitsuda's best . . . even close ) , a nice out-of-battle interface , and an interesting quest that takes you throughout time . True , since I never really played this game until FF Chronicles , I may have liked it more if I actually got it in 1995 ( just about the only Square game I missed between the years 1991 and 2001 ) . I don't agree that it's quite possibly the greatest RPG of all time ( mostly because I HATED Chrono , the character , SO MUCH ! ! ! ) , but it is a nice enjoyable romp , and features plot twists that were about time , yet somehow weren't stolen from either H.G.Welles or Dr . Who ! That got me at least ! Now , I'm not gonna deny it , but to me , the whole point of buying this package is for FF4 ! The graphics are suprememly outdated , and so is the sound quality , but that doesn't change much when it comes to this game . . . quite possibly the greatest FF of all time ! The music is better composed than in Chrono Trigger , the characters are almost infinitely better , the battle system and interface are very easy to use , and even if you've played though it on the SNES a thousand times , unlike Chrono Trigger , this game features something new on the PSX . Yes , it's sad , that while FFIV was greatly enhanced and a totally new experience on the PSX , Chrono Trigger remains almost completely unchanged from what I can figure out . Behind them both are nice long storylines , and behind FFIV is also strong character content . Chrono Trigger's is full of many choices , which even FFIV doesn't have ! The plot twists are also cool , even by today's standards , although there's no real food for thought like in FFX or either Xeno games . While FFIV doesn't feature much more food for thought , it does tell one of the greatest RPG tales of all time by far , and still contains some of the greatest musical tracks ever written . Nobuo Uematsu may be loosing it now , but when it comes to his middle works like this through FFVII , he was quite a head-turner . You follow Cecil on a much more elaborate and detailed quest than that of Chrono Trigger , which is dialogue centered , but still features a great gameplay system , albeit old , and full of random battles . The equipping interface is still larger than that of any other strictly console-RPG I've seen ( in terms of weapons and armor ) . I kid you not when I say that FFIV is the reason I became a film major ! It was 12 years ago I saw the light , and it still shines onto me as strong as ever ! Whether the more fun and basic , yet fast-moving quest of Chrono Trigger is your type , or the more elaborate and character driven Final Fantasy IV is your type ( like it is mine , as you could figure out ) , this game is a must have ! Two legendary games ! I think they could have called this : Final Fantasy : The Two RPG's that Wrote the Book that all RPG's Would Later Follow , except for the fact that it's way too long of a title . Original and entertaining until the end of time , get these games , for the power of epic awaits you !
    • 010 4  Final Fantasy Chronicles combines Final Fantasy IV ( II in the U.S , released in 1991 ) and Chrono Trigger , two of the most innovative and challenging RPGs of all time . The version of Final Fantasy IV found here is the complete version of the game , with a bit more challenge and velocity than the SNES release . Skin deep , though , they are basically the same game . The original graphics are preserved , but with the added benefit of FMV movies at the beginning and end of the game . The story , dialogue , items , weapons , spells , and all that jazz remain intact . This was released as Final Fantasy IV Hard Edition in Japan , and as the title suggests , this game is not easy . You are looking at 60 hours MINIMUM to complete this game , 100 is more realistic . Despite all my praise of FFVI , this is what I consider to be the best game in the Final Fantasy Series . It has a deeper story , and it is far more challenging . I cannot argue that the graphics are a bit , well , dated . But who cares ? A great game is still a great game . Ditto for Chrono Trigger . This is one game that I am glad they re-released . It is one of the most pleasant gaming experiences you will ever have . Unlike the Final Fantasy games , the battles happen in real time , and you can use combo attacks with certain characters . The basic elements , like leveling up and attain stronger weapons and magic , are still here . The graphics are way ahead of it's time , and fit well with other Playstation titles like Legend of Mana and Breath of Fire III . This game is a pure classic . One mistake made by RPG fans ( like myself ) is that they do not get these games while they are readily available , and wait until they become out of print and hard to find . I urge you not to do the same . There will come a time when this game , like the FF Anthology , will demand a high price because it is extremely rare . Best to get it now while you can .
    • 011 4  This will be a review of Chrono Trigger as it was on the SNES , since they don't have a page for it ( on the PSX its slowed down an incredible amount , which really detracts from gameplay ) . Anyway , Chrono Trigger is , hands down , one of the best games ever made , behind only Final Fantasy 6 . You cannot call yourself a true rpg fan untill you have played both of those games . The graphics were top of the line at the time it was released , and the old school ( i.e . hand drawn ) graphics are far better than anything a computer can create . The musical score for this game is absolutely incredible ; It's up there with FF6 and Chrono Cross in this department , if not better . Even something as simple as the tune that is played when you sleep is very good . The storyline is awesome , it's incredibly innovative and involves an accident that sends 3 young people through time . when they witness the barren future of the world , they decide to change the future , and their actions have huge repercussions throughout time . Its all very believeable , and a lot of attention is paid to detail , no matter how small . As you are playing , you get hit with this sense of enormity , the scale of the quest is incredibly large , and yet there is still a good deal of character development ( sadly not as much as in FF6 ) . Gameplay itself is quite good , the controll is very good , and combat is intuitive . You learn new attacks only by going up in level , which can be frustrating and lead to repetition in combat , but the advent of dual and triple techs ( attacks that use two or three people ) immediately makes up for this . Many of thse moves are incredibly powerful , and are fun to watch . Theres plenty of side quests , for those who love to find everything ; once you hit a certain point , you can choose to beat the game , or go and find the uber stuff . These side quests greatly add to the storyline , however , and affect the ending as well . . . which leads me to another fantastic point . The endings . All 12 of them . Ive achieved almost all of them , and many of them are quite good , many are humorous . The developer's ending which is by far the hardest to get is stellar . In short , for all the naysayers of the SNES rpgs , graphics do not make a great game , storyline makes a great game . its as simple as that . FF7 and FF9 are great games that earn solid 4 stars , but cannot compare to the greatness of this and FF6 . If you have ever played an rpg and liked it ( and even if you didnt ! ) give this game a try . You WILL NOT be disappointed , I will wager everything I know on that fact . This is the real deal . Very Highly Recommended .
    • 014 4  You can't really beat this package . I actually bought this for Chrono Trigger alone , and I traded 4 other games for it , including Final Fantasy VII . That was one of the best trade-ins I've ever done . I never really cared for FFIV back on the SNES or now . Don't get me wrong , it's a fine game , but I just never could get into it . Anyway though , I've played them both now , and despite a few minor flaws , this is still a great buy for those who like the old classics . Since I haven't played FFIV very much , I don't really have much to say about it . But , Chrono Trigger . I still believe that no RPG has ever been able to top this game . It set a high point in RPGs that simply could not be duplicated . And now , this new release of the game , with new cutscenes and some touched up music , yet still keeping the original gameplay intact , is excellent . Now I've already written a review of the original Chrono Trigger on Amazon , so there's no need to restate all that here . So instead , I'll just address the few flaws of the game . The only flaw that it really has is the loading times for the battles and the menu screens . And , that is a valid complaint . However , I don't think it warrants taking any stars off of the rating . Consider this : For one thing , at least the battles are not random like so many other games . And secondly , think about what happens when you encounter enemies in , say , FFVII , FFVIII , Legend of Dragoon , or almost any other RPG of their type today : First , for about 5 seconds , the battlefield just swirls around for no reason . Then , it centers on the battlefield , and the enemies appear . For about 2 more seconds , the enemies stand there performing their pre-fight motions . Then , your characters appear and take about 3 more seconds doing their pre-fight motions , getting into their stances , stretching , swinging their weapons around , etc . When the battle finally starts , about 10 seconds have already been wasted . Even at their worst , the load times for Chrono Trigger are no longer than 5 seconds . Besides , the only reason this happens at all is because the game is on a CD instead of its original cartridge . At any rate though , if you like the older Squaresoft titles ( which in my opinion were far better than the ones out today ) , get this game . If you were first introduced to RPGs by games like FF7 and FF8 , then be careful with this one , you might not like it .
    • 015 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) This is a good deal . You get FF4 which was final fantasy 2 back on the super nes , and the great game Chrono Trigger . A must have for rpg lovers . Plus the art for Chrono Trigger is by the same artist of Dragonball and Dragon warrior VIII fame . The games are long and Chrono Trigger can have many diffrent endings depending on the choices you make . Overall It is a must .

    • 018 4  don't pay more than 20 dollars for this . Square is releaseing this title along with 3 others for $20 .
    • 019 4  Ever since Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy Anthology , I've been searching for Chrono Trigger ( being that more than 90% of the people I talk to say its the greatest RPG ever made ) and Final Fantasy IV ( Because this was the true beginning of the FF series in the US ) . When I heard about this package , I simply had to go out and buy it . Why ? Because I was desperate ! At least I grew to be . Now that I just bought this on June 14 , I can proudly say that Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest RPGs ever . But Chrono Trigger seems to be somewhat short however . ( I just got it June 14 , and was at the end by the June 16 , pretty short or maybe it was because I couldn't put the controller down ) . FFIV-Has an interesting story , along with interesting Characters . Almost as good as VI . This game is very difficult though . Its one of the hardest RPG's I've ever played in my life ! Again , it is somewhat short , but it was fun ! But , it takes a REALLY LONG TIME TO SAVE ! ! ! So my advice is to use the memo feature and then save it to your memory card before you're done ! But it is faster than FFA at loading . That helps a bit . The story is also interesting , and they added in new CG cinemas . They are indeed better looking than FFA , but not FFVIII or CC . Sadly , there is no extras mode for FFIV ( that [ stinks ] . . . cuz ' it was really fun too ! ) Chrono Trigger-The best story I've heard in an RPG since Lunar Silver Star Story Complet , Grandia , Chrono Cross , and Final Fantasy 7 . The characters are very interesting , and the story moves at a fast pace . The best part about the game was TIME TRAVEL ! Which I enjoyed more than just going back and forth between two worlds ( Chrono Cross ) . The Music in this game is really good for super nintendo , and with the new animated scenes this is really nice . The animation is very nice if you ask me . And the Extra's feature ! This is seeming more like the FFVI package in Final Fantasy Anthology . However , Chrono Trigger takes a lot of loading time just to open up the menu , and engage in battle ( another in common with FFVI ! ) But the endings are very nice , and its full of side quests ! This is without a doubt one of the greatest RPGs ever made ! Overall we have 2 of the greatest RPGs in one package . I'd get this , even if you do own it on the SNES . NOTE : Final Fantasy II in the U.S . was Final Fantasy IV Easy Mode . In this package it is Final Fantasy IV HARD MODE . Enjoy
    • 021 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) This is a good collection . It's even better if you have a PS1 emulator and a fast PC . This would cut down on the lag . ( Of course , if you have such , other options arise . ) Some have mentioned the lag issue . As one who played through these on the SNES , I can assure you there is horrid lag . The PS2 has a faster CD drive and some form of caching for PS1 titles which helps dramatically , but by no means removes the delay . In Chrono Trigger on the console , fights started with no discernable lag . The creatures on the background jump out at you and you're fighting with no visible delay beyond the jumping animation . ( or whatever they do ) In FF2 / 4 the screen did fade black , and then faded in , but this took about an eighth to quarter of a second . ( estimated ) Chrono Trigger was a great game . The story is fun , and the characters are great . The story is non-linear and you get a great feeling of control . How many games give you the choice of killing off one of the bosses or accepting their help ? ( Your choice affects the ending in a reasonable fashion ) FF2 ( 4 ) was also a great story . When I played through it first , I commented how it felt like playing through a book . Much less choice in progression than even in earlier FF's , though . Fun , regardless . Finally , he sound quality was lower on the PS version than on the original console . The fade effects on the music and such are gone . I haven't played through sufficiently to notice any other changes , but that one was rather glaring . I really liked the use of fadeing to make it sound like you were getting away from the source . ( Such as the Millineal Fair music fading as one wanders away from town . ) The PS version rather ungraciously terminates at some distance , and then at some further distance fires up the new music . Jarring . The original Chrono Trigger would get 5 / 5 , but these issues particularly hinder it .

    • 023 4  I admit that the first rpf I ever played was Mario RPG for the SNES ( what a piece of crap mrpg was ! ) So I was a little leary of rpgs that were on the old Super Nintendo . But I loved some of the more clasic RPG's like BoF3 and 4 ( for those of you not in the know , that's Breath of Fire ) so I decided to give Chronicles a try . Wow ! Chrono Trigger is probably the best RPG I've ever played ( and yes , I've played FF7 , and I loved it . ) This game has characters and a story with true depth ( something like 10 endings ) and solid combat system , and suprisingly decent graphics . Added to that is Final Fantasy 4 , which I think ranks next to FF7 in shear genius . This game is great , and the best surprise is that it's challenging ; I was expecting roughly 10 hours of good gaming , but I just hit 11 hours , and I don't think I'm anywhere near the end . Save times are slow , but who cares about a few seconds missing from your life . Oh , my only complaint about CT is that it gets slow when you enter of leave battles , and when you switch betwixt the menus . As if these are really complaints ! Buy these games ( and if you like them , then buy Breath of Fire 4 , not for the cookie cutter gamer . )
    • 024 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) This gem is the re-issue of two old SNES games for the Playstation , Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger . I remember my old FF II SNES cartridge very fondly , though I never had the chance to play Chrono Trigger until this reissue . I enjoyed these classic RPG's very much - now for more detailed reviews of the games : Final Fantasy IV was originally released as Final Fantasy II here in the USA , since Square chose not to release the NES games of Final Fantasy II and III here at that time , and they changed the numbering of the game to avoid confusion here . The story follows the adventures of Cecil , commander of the famed Red Wings squadron of airships and a Dark Knight in the service of the King of Baron . The King , formerly a benevolent ruler , has recently begun to exhibit changed and disturbing behavior . When he sends Cecil and the Red Wings on a mission to assault the hapless mages of Mysidia and steal their Crystal , Cecil begins to seriously question his actions . When he brings his concerns to the King , he is rewarded by being stripped of his command and sent to deliver a package to the nearby Village of Mist along with his friend , Kain the Dragoon . And so the adventure begins . . . Those who have mostly played the later Final Fantasies , especially VII , VIII , and X , will find the character creation system in this game to be different . As the game progresses , you will be joined by several different characters who rotate in and out of your party , and each has his or her own unique abilities . For example , Rosa , Cecil's lady love , is strictly a White Magic user , with a small offensive capability , whereas Cecil and Kain are strictly designed around being offensive powerhouses . So , there is not a lot of room for character customization . Final Fantasy IV also introduced the Active Time Battle ( ATB ) system to the series . Basically , in this game , each character has a time bar that fills up according to the character's Speed stat . When the bar fills up , the character is able to take an action . The enemies have ATB bars also , but you can't see them . So you will need to plan your strategies carefully , but yet think fast , because while you are debating on what spell to have Rosa or Rydia cast , the enemies will continue to attack . In addition , those who had previously played this game on the SNES will be pleasantly surprised to see that the game has been completely re-translated , resulting in a storyline that makes a little more sense and is a little easier to understand ( and the infamous Spoony Bard line is still there ) . Also , there are many more items and abilities in the game that were left out of the original SNES version . As to Chrono Trigger , this game is not part of the Final Fantasy series , though it is from the same company that produced those games . Many other reviewers have commented on the long loading times for this game . I found that the load times were on the order of 5 seconds or so for most battles and menu screens . Saving the game takes a little longer . It didin't bother me too much , but I can see how others , particularly those who played the SNES version , could be annoyed . Chrono Trigger follows the story of Chrono , a young man who is good friends with Lucca , the local inventor . One day during the local town festival , they encounter a mysterious young girl named Marle . While looking at Lucca's latest invention , Marle suddenly disappears , leaving only her pendant behind . Chrono and Lucca follow her . . . CT is different from most RPGs in that instead of traversing a large world to discover new places , this world is much smaller and the new discoveries come in the form of time travel . There are several different eras that you will visit in the course of playing this game , ranging from the mists of prehistory to the far future . As in FFIV , each character in the game has his or her own unique abilities , with certain characters being more Tank types and others leaning more towards magic use . However , in this game , you have a little more control over who is in your party at one time . Also , each character has certain Tech abilities . Different characters can create powerful Double or Triple Tech attacks when working as a team , thus allowing for many different attacking strategies , depending on the party's composition . Another cool thing about CT is the fact that , depending on your actions in the game , you will get one of a dozen or so different endings . The different endings enhance the replayability of this game quite a bit . The Chronicles version also contains several new anime cutscenes that were created by the same person who drew the Dragonball anime series . Anyone who has ever watched any episodes of Dragonball Z will see the resemblance immediately . Overall , this is a truly excellent game , with a lot of nice surprises and features even for those who own the original SNES cartridges . Although the load times are noticeable , they really aren't that bad and shouldn't turn someone off this game . Highly , highly recommended .

    • 026 4  Well I've been playing RPG'S for awhile ( since the release of Final Fantasy II aka Final Fantasy IV in 1991 ) so I am in the category of those who have played these games . To make it short and simple these two games made what RPG'S are today . Final Fantasy IV is the first RPG with characters that revolve around the storyline . Final Fantasy IV is about the Red Wings captain Cecil who is a man who has lost his path and begins his journey as a soldier of evil . Later he becomes good and the hero of the story . Storyline : 5 This story has all he elements of a good plot . It drags in the story and keeps your attention you never know what happends next or what secret will be revealed . Graphics : 2 This was an early snes games so it has fairly primitive graphics although to those of us who are long time gamers it is neither a problem or a hassle to venture in the realm of nostalgia . Characters : 5 All characters have a personality unique to themselves and even the enemies have personalities that you will like while you will hate some ( such as Edward or Dr.Lugae ) and love others ( KAIN is the man ) there is room for all Control : 5 The controls are simple and fairly easy to grasp also the game although not straight forward doesn't leave you with no clue what to do as long as you read it . Fighting : 5 The battles are not as advanced as say Final Fantasy VII or any other RPG but then again this is where the genre starts is true battle scenes . The magic is not highly graphic except summoning spells and it does use an automatic time battle orATB and each character has their own abilities ( note : unlike other RPG's you are not allowed to choose your party it is given to you to those who have a stake in your next goal ) Overall : 5 I started playing this game 10 years ago which led me on the path of RPG if you like RPG's this is the game for you it started it all and it's story is absolutely cpativating Chrono Trigger is another blockbuster game and I have played it and conquered the game . This game literally takes you in adventure of time . It begins with Chrono Marle and Lucca who stumble on time travel to an adventure to save the future . Storyline : 5 This storyline is filled with surprises and baffling questions it not only tests your mind but grabs you by the seat of your pants . Not to mention the multiple endings are a nice touch ( there are 11 in total ) Graphics : 3 The graphics are years ahead Final Fantasy IV which makes them not only decent to look at but to see the peak of the SNES graphics is superb . Not to mention the movie clips in both games brings out all the hardcore gamers . Characters : 5 There are a total of 7 characters you can get and yes you can choose who want on your party 1 character is secret but the secrets in the game that compliment characters and items are massive there are so many things you could do when you have time to hide the wonders of Chrono Trigger Control : 4 the game is 2d with a 3d aspect with no rotating camera which makes it annoying to move around or see things at times . However the control is simple like most squaresoft games Fighting : 5 The battles are quite unique and it is the first game of it's kind to use double or triple techs with your characters i.e your two characters can attack at once or three all on one guy causing massive damage however triple techs are a bit limited but it is well worth seeing them all Overall : 5 This game has an excellent story and it gave birth to Chrono Cross another game that sold millions and I enjoyed beating if you played Chrono Cross and want to see the beginning YOU MUST PLAY THIS GAME I forsee a future for this series no pun intended
    • 027 4  Unlike Square's previous attempt at re-releasing classics - Final Fantasy Anthology - Chronicles has two games with very little differences in performance or sound from the originals . No tinny sound or hour long waits when going between the menu and gameplay screen . It seems Square has found the magic emulation code that does it extremely well , and Final Fantasy 4 seems completely different - new ( and IMHO , better ) dialogue , a whole bunch of new items ( though some are badly documented - I still have no idea what a HourGlas1 does . . . ? ) and new skills for many characters . As most FF buffs would know , Square actually translated the normal FF4 into english and localized it , unlike the FF2 version we had for Super Nintendo , which was actually the Japanese EasyType version made for kiddies and the RPG impaired . Those who've played the SNES version will notice the exponential increase in difficulty and strangely - - treasure chests . ( For some reason , there seems to be four times as many treasure chests than I remember ) Anyway , FF4 is definetly worth a replay if you've finished the SNES version we had . And then we have Chrono Trigger . What can I say ? Chrono Trigger is Chrono Trigger . One of the best RPGs ever made ( Though still with the slightly annoying battle systems - you can't move ! ) is even better on a PSOne or PS2 ( w / Fast Loading ) with the neat extra features included - most of which are only unlocked from beating it . The added anime scenes are great and worth playing through again if you've already played it to death on Super Nintendo . I have still yet to beat CT though . . . ( When I originally had it I was 8 , give me a break ! ) Hopefully I will soon though ! I'm hoping the extras are cool . Get it NOW ! ( If you like Excellent RPGs that is . . . )
    • 028 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) I love it when companies re-release classic games on newer systems for those of us who grew up with them and like to walk down memory lane , and FF Chronicles collects 2 great games in one . I have many blissful memories of playing FF 4 ( 2 at the time ) when I was much younger and it was newly released . My obsession with Final Fantasy started with number 1 , and was established without doubt after playing 2 . It is a phenomenal , albeit very dated game . The characters and storyline are among the best in FF history , and the gameplay ( though straightforward ) remains very fun . The graphics and sound of the game were top notch when released . The graphics remain very colorful and appealing even now , and the music is good if rather cheap sounding compared to modern games . I sometimes wish they would have spiffed these games up a bit ( improving the instrumentation of the music , adding some bonus features , etc . ) , but I can also respect getting the games in their original form without alteration ( except for the CG scenes , of course ) . That is one area of major disappointment for me , the CG movies they added to FF 4 . They exhibit the worst graphics I have ever seen on the PS1 . A big disappointment , especially coming from the masters at Square . It looks like someone with no experience just threw them together at the last minute . I would rather they just not added them . Furthermore , I wish they could have maybe spliced them into the game instead of just having them at the beginning and end . That really misled me . Still , a great , faithful remake of a wonderful game from the days of old . I never played Chrono Trigger on the SNES , so it was a new experience for me , and I did wish once playing it that I had played it in my youth , as it is a phenomenal game that , although I enjoyed it , I would have appreciated much more when I was younger . Great graphics for the time , and about the best music I've ever heard in a video game . The story and game play really pull you in , and the world is one , like any great fictional place , where you find yourself wishing you could just become part of it . Also , in contrast to FF 4 , I really enjoyed the CG movies they added . They are in the anime style by the guy who did Dragonball Z , are spliced into the game at the appropriate parts , and are really very good . I am disappointed however , as many others on here have stated , that this game has painfully long load times that really decreased my enjoyment of the game . Every time you get into a battle or bring up the status screen , there is about a 3 - 5 second wait , which may not seem like a big deal , but believe me , it gets annoying real fast . Still , if you're patient , it is a good game . I find myself wishing that they had released FF 3 on this compilation instead of Chrono Trigger , though . I mean , it is FF Chronicles . If they had put 3 on here , we could have had the entire FF series on the PS . As it is , 3 will likely never be available in a form I'm willing to acquire and play , and thus it will eternally remain a hole in my FF experience . If they had put FF 3 on here , maybe they could have done another 2 disc compilation with Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana . Now that would have been awesome . Sadly , I can only give this 4 stars overall , and thats me being realistic as opposed to overly nostalgic . They are both great , classic games , and I'm glad to have them , and I did enjoy them . But , this collection is flawed in several ways that just a little bit more work from Square could have prevented , and made this truly worthy of 5 stars .

    • 031 4  Final Fantasy IV The first 16 - bit Final Fantasy game , it's considered by many to be the best . ( Personally , I preferred FFVI , but different strokes . . . ) The graphics haven't aged particularly well in the nearly ten years since its original release , but the music still is quite well-done . Those who have played the original U.S . release , Final Fantasy II , will discover that the new version has a completely revamped translation and a ramped-up difficulty level - a definite mark in the plus column for the game . And as a bonus , it is marked by the near-absence of load times ! Chrono Trigger One of the best games of the 16 - bit gaming era , it's an enjoyable romp through time , with engaging characters and dialogue and an intriguing storyline . It's also the predecessor to the PlayStation game Chrono Cross , and a must-play to pick up all the nuances of that game . The game has aged as well as could be expected - the music and graphics sound crude in this era of polygons , FMV ( full-motion-video ) and synth game music that sounds like the real thing , but the quality is still evident . The story is as absorbing as ever , and the addition of the Extras mode - with added anime FMVs to link the game to Chrono Cross - makes it even better . The only real problem with Chrono Trigger is the terrible slowdown that plagues the game . If you can put up with the several-second load times for battles and menus , the game is as good as it ever was - and that's pretty darn good . If you've never played the original games , this is your chance . And if you have , take the opportunity to savor the nostalgia . And with two games for the price of one , this is definitely a collection worth buying !
    • 032 4  Yeah I know its not released yet , but I played both games when i was younger , and i absolutey love em . Final Fantasy IV ( II ) was the first game I ever played on the SNES , and it feuled my love for RPGs . FFIV is such a great game . its challenging , fun , and the spells are just so cool ! the bosses are actually fun to fight , but some enemies can really . . . u off . but whats great about this version is that they added a two player battle mode , and you can actually run in the dungeons ! in the snes version u have the same monotonous , slow pace thru-out the entire game , but now u can run ! but i highly reccomend getting this game b / c they are goin to change the translation and add new CGs ( FMVs ) and it will be a fun new exp . for all the ppl who have played it ! now , chrono trigger , ion my opinion , is the best rpg ever made . the story line is fantastic , the controls are easy and fun , and the attacks are just plain awesome . but what makes this game cool is this - - there are NINE ENDINGS . there are nine times u can fight the boss and u get a different ending EACH TIME ! so u can play this game to death ! another thing is that u can start a new game ( after beating it with all ur stuff from the last game . its is fun , but not really challenging . in this version , they added new anime movies from the artist of DragonBallZ ! this is going to be an ecen cooler game than the SNES version . I highly recommend getting this package because it has some of thie best games ever made and it will be another great addition to ur PSX game collection . it will be part II of the SquareSoft Blast From The Past Collection and we can hope there is more to come . . . GET THIS GAME ! : ) your loyal gamer friend , - FZP
    • 039 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Chrono Trigger's is a great game albiet the very dated graphics . For me , the story , characters and battles were interesting enough to balance out the uninteresting graphics . If you like old school RPGs , you need chrono trigger ! But there are weird 8 second lags before and after battles that I personally could be patient enough for but some may not be . . so beware . Pros + Fun . + No nonsense fluff , just good old school rpg fun + Good story + good characters + interesting time travel concept battles that take place directly on the field map , while still being turn based . Cons + those 5 second new animates scenes are nothing to be excited about , they are short and there are few of them and they dont contribute much , just reiterate stuff . . + the delays before and after each battle , can get anoying . FFIV was a worthwhile game as well , though it requires some serious grinding at times to progress , which I hate .

    • 043 4  This is a 2 game disc for the sony playstation , also plays in the sony playstation 2 . Both games are fun and remind me of when I was young and used to play them on the SNES ( super nintendo entertainment system ) I would suggest this game for anyone that is into RPG's . This game is good for all ages , so there is no need for parents to worry about the content their children are getting into .
    • 044 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) I must say how happy i was to receive this package in the mail . Final Fantasy VI ( then II ) was the first RPG i ever played in my heyday . it's always held a place in my gaming life that no other game can replace ( with maybe the exception of FF7 ) the story , the battle system , the music , i could go on . . . soon after i was introduced to chrono trigger by a friend from school . he had told me that the same game company that made the Final Fantasy series also create Chrono Trigger . naturally , i was intrigued . as with FF4 , everything the game encompassed completely hooked me from the get-go and i couldn't stop playing . both were an amazing experience for me when i was young , and it still is to this day . it's a bit unfortunate that today's crop of gaming youngsters can't appreciate this game simply because it doesn't look nearly as good as todays games do , which is understandable , yet still kinda sad . both are a great starting point for really young gamers that wish to get into this genre , and more power to them for wanting to do so .

    • 046 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) First some warnings : These games mostly play on the PS II , but there are some glitches , and Crono Trigger slows down at times even on the Playstation . Final Fantasy IV was the first Squaresoft game I ever played and all I could think of at the time ( 1993 ) was : This game totally blows away those Enix Actraiser and Soulblazer games ! FF IV still holds up even today with its involved story and multiple worlds . This version includes some nice CGI rendered opening and closing sequences . Some comments on this real version and the American ( SNES version ) : Why did Nintendo in 1992 need to change the word pray to wish ? Why did Nintendo need to change the word Gysahl to Carrot ? And why did more than half the items of the game need to be taken away ? Now I finally know what the Big Chocobo is for ! : ) Anyway , this FF IV is one hard game , forcing me to level much farther to finish the game then the SNES game ever did . Now for Chrono Trigger : This is a masterpiece of a game that I still haven't seen story or game play surpass since . Being able to fly around in your world is one thing , but being able to fly around in your world in 5 time periods is quite another . Just the ability of changing one thing in the past having an affect on the future is such a cool concept that has never been duplicated . The Square and Enix developers outdid themselves on this game and they truly were the Dream Team of RPG developers for their day . I have only gotten two of this games endings but I hear it has over 10 ! There is no CGI in this game , the opening is done in very nice Anime style of the games characters . It really looks like a real cartoon . That is one cartoon I'd watch if it existed . Overall rating : 10 / 10 ! ! !

I know it's technically final fantasy IV but it will always be FFII to me . I'm still a little ticked about the money I wasted on the REAL FFII but I won't hold it against this game . My favorite of the final fantasy series and I've played just about all of them . I haven't played Chrono Trigger , couldn't tell you how that one is .

When this game first came out , I was in the military far away from home . I did not read about , or see any commercial . I was a rpg gamer . This game not only give you hours of playtime , but the story and music will move you . I lost many nights of sleep playing this game . I was overjoyed when Final Fantasy Chronicles came with Chrono Trigger . I love the FF series , but I bought this game just for that . Is it the best game ever ? My theory is that if you do not trade the game in for another , then that is a classic game . When I get my PS3 . Chrono Trigger will be one of the first games I play on the system . If you want kids to get a basis for RPGs , then this is the perfect game to start .

    • 060 4  Following on the heels of Final Fantasy Anthology comes another collection of classic Squaresoft video games . Final Fantasy Chronicles features two games : Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger . When it was released on the SNES , Final Fantasy IV was known as Final Fantasy II ( it was the 4th game over all , but only the second released in the United States ) . In America , FFIV was the first of the series to have distinguishable characters with personality as well as having a real storyline to follow . Chrono Trigger is arguably the best RPG ever , and is without question one of the best on the SNES . In my mind , Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI are pretty much tied for my favorite RPG of all time . This is the first time either game has been available on the Playstation . Final Fantasy IV : This has long been a favorite of mine . It had a story that is still one of my favorites with characters that I feel are more memorable that most of the Playstation era Final Fantasies . This is the Final Fantasy that I grew up with . Spells are learned as you increase in levels , characters move in and out of your party as the story progresses . The game has one of the great villains in Golbez . Kain and Rydia are still two of my favorite characters . While the game is easy , it is has been made more difficult in this PSX port . You play as Cecil , a Dark Knight as he rebels against the King of Baron in a quest to save the Crystals of the world from Golbez . This has a large cast of characters who will fight with you ( and against you ) and is simply a fun game to play . Yes , the graphics are early SNES era , but this is an old game . It remains a fun game . Chrono Trigger : As I said above , I view this as one of the all time great games . The story , involving time travel and its effects , is one of the best and is fairly complex with each action changing the history of the world but then opening up new questions and conflict . Chrono Trigger featured 16 different endings ( more than 10 for sure ) depending on when you decide to beat the game . After completing the game once you can restart with New Game + ) and begin the game with all the experience levels and stats that you had when you completed the game . You also begin with most of the weapons and armor ( the only things you lose are those weapons that are important to the story , like the Masamune ) . Chrono Trigger has a distinct and memorable cast of characters and this is a game begging to be played . As with all of the PSX ports , the game is more enjoyable if played on the original system so that you don't have to deal with loading times , but the game is also much more expensive to buy for the SNES . This is definitely worth your money .
    • 063 4  With a fully redone and newly translated narrative from the original Japanese version along with slight graphic , audio , and gameplay tweaks , FFIV vividly brings to life the classic setting of the RPG series that the ninth installment revitalized last fall . Playing as Cecil , the leader of the Dark Knights , you doubt the mentions of your King and are branded a traitor . Along with a large cast of colorful characters , your next move is to stop the evil plans of Golbez as he gains control of the 4 elemental crystals . In it 1991 SNES realease , this game was noted for its ground-breaking story , which created 3 - D charaters with complex , human emotions and intense moral dilemmas that wore seamlessly into the plot . Also , the Active Time Battles ( ATB ) system appeared to add more urgency to the turn-based battles , and it remains at the heart of the best FF games to date. These features still stand out today , making FFIV one of the most gripping RPG's to date .
    • 065 4  These games are some of the best ever made . The added CG anime cutscenes are a wonderful touch , plus Chrono Trigger's Extras Mode gets you to get all the endings . I won't rant about how great the games are , but I'll name the sole problem : CT's port is slow and the cutscenes are often choppy ( especially the intro ) . It's nothing game-destroying , but if you're used to the SNES ( or an emulator ) prepare to be mildly annoyed .
    • 067 4  Many consider Final Fantasy IV ( originally released as II in the US ) is the best of the Final Fantasy series - - I have to agree . Both ports in this collection are excellent and the new FFIV translation is infinitely better than the original . Load times on Chrono Trigger are a little long - - but PlayStation RPGers are used to these . In short , if you like RPGs , you must own this .
    • 069 4  Any RPG fan who owned a Super Nintendo in the early ' 90s will no doubt recongnize the two games included in this package . Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 4 ( formerly known as FF2 in the US ) were two of the best role playing games released for any console system at the time . Chrono Trigger is an RPG which combines elements of the Final Fantasy series with the character designs of Akira Toriyama ( best known for his work on the Dragon Ball animated series ) . Final Fantasy 4 was the very first Final Fantasy game to be released for the Super Nintendo , and introduced many features for the first time that would later become a staple of the series . Both games are strictly 2D , and while they look very outdated by today's standards , their storyline and depth are still superior to many of the newer RPGs . The only downfall with Final Fantasy Chronicles is the loading time , especially in Chrono Trigger . These games were originally designed to be displayed on the Super Nintendo , and the Playstation has a hard time keeping up with all of the sprite based graphics . It also would have been nice if FF Chronicles included a soundtrack CD like the one in Final Fantasy Anthology . In any case , if you are a RPG fan , you can't afford to pass up this great deal .
    • 070 4  Before I begin , let me say I OWN this game ( on the PSX ) , as opposed to the other reviews I have read so far , and I have a lot to say about it that they don't know because they never played it . Don't get me wrong , I love both of these games , and I own the original SNES versions of them as well as my PSX version . But I have a few problems with the games that gamers might want to be aware of before buying the games ( although you definitely still should buy it ) . First , I will tackle FFIV , because this will be a lot shorter . I want to start by saying that I didn't really play the new version yet , I stopped after I fight so I could see how the fighting transitions work . But what I saw was perfect . There was no extra load time , battles start and stop seamlessly . This is identical to the SNES version , but there were a few differences that I saw . First , the ( new ) introduction was very short , and contained clips from what appeared to be 2 FMVs , which leads me to believe there is not much video added . The video added was the style of that added into the other FF games ( VI-IX ) , as opposed to that used in Chrono Trigger . But in terms of actual storyline , it seemed so different . First , Cecil knew exactly what his mission to Mysidia was , and his package item was even re-named to the name of it's contents . Second , the King says nothing of banishing him , and that he can come back after it's success . And the dash option added into all their re-makes is a very nice addition . If you loved FFIV ( or II , whatever you call it ) for SNES or even never played it , this is a MUST HAVE for the PSX . Chrono Trigger . That's a very different story . This was perhaps my favorite SNES game , rivaled only by FFVI . I bought this game primarily for this remake , although I would have gotten FFIV when it came . As I put in the game , I watched through the new anime-esque entrance , and I must say it was incredible . I do not know who was responsible for this video , but kudos to you - it's incredible . About 1 in 5 times of my turning on the power of my PSX , it will give me an error message saying , Insert valid Playstation CD-ROM . I don't know what the cause of the problem is , but hitting reset solves it . I didn't ever have that problem before , nor did I see it with any other game , including FFIV . I just sent out a letter to Square and Sony , so I could not get a response yet . 1 - The most notable flaw is the horrendous load times in the game . There are 4 seconds before and after every battle , another 4 when you access the menu or change screens or change your party . Surprisingly , it only takes 2 seconds to record your saved game onto the memory pack . The newer , more demanding games managed to hide this before battles by swirling the screen and doing weird effects . . . I had never realized the purpose before playing this game . In battles with a lot of people ( such as in Magus ' castle , with 6 bats all moving about ) , there was noticeable slowdown , something that I was unsure of the casue due to the power of the PSX hardware . 2 - The FMVs - they're great , but not perfect . I enjoyed the first one I saw when you first recruit Robo ( or R - 66Y as I like to name him ) , but when you meet Ayla , or when Glenn opens up the Magic Mountains , or before you fight Magus , the FMV is followed by the same exact thing except in-game . If they were to show Ayla take out all the reptiles in FMV mode , there is no reason to show it again in the game , and I feel they should have done something about that deja-vu . Although other ones had this same problem , it wasn't too bad with the first take-off of Epoch . A note on the FMVs - I noticed during the Glenn sequence , the music appeared to be orchestrated , and it sounded beautiful . Square had originally set this game for a July 11th release , the same day of the movie , but has actually PUSHED IT FORWARD , something that I cannot recall another example of in game history . Yet I do not see the reason , because I would much rather wait another month to have a quicker game . I love how they added the extras menu into the game . It adds new things each time you get a different ending . I'm don't have any information , because I haven't beaten it yet on PSX , but I have a feeling that it will be free access to view that ending . I am only up to the underwater palace ( although I did get it yesterday ) , and am far too weak to beat the game just yet . I was slightly disappointed after I started playing this game with the excessive loading . I would have been much happier purchasing an FFIV with the music CD ( why not the OST . . . it's only one CD ) like they did in FF Anthologies , and waiting another few months for Chrono Trigger to reduce the loads ( and maybe including the PSX remix soundtrack . . . by the way , both of those CDs do exist in Japan , and I'm sure they have master copies from which they could easily produce more . ) . Don't get me wrong , these are two very nice games , but I'd say they should wait until its closer to perfection . The Bottom Line - BUY THIS GAME . It's worth the wait before battles in Chrono Trigger , and FFIV is perfect . The lost star in my rating was for this loading . Otherwise , this is perfect .
    • 071 4  This game is horribly addictive . I love RPG's but this is one of the best RPGs out there . Storylines , music , multiple endings , they're all awesome and very cute . I love this game , and I'm playing it again after 2 years . This package adds another game to the already renown excellent RPG ! Squaresoft is the most amazing RPG makers . Final Fantasy series are good but Chrono Trigger is the best RPG . Recommended for RPGers .
    • 073 4  Chrono Trigger is the best game ever made . The story was so large that the first time I played it I racked 120 hours . And this is with playing with the story line . The game is breath-taking with one of the best sound-tracks ever composed . It's fun and has up to like 9 or more endings . Also has a neat game function that allows yyou to start the game from the beggining with all your gear from the previous game . Worth more than its price tag , . . . . FF2 is also a great game with fun gameplay and a great story . Quite reading , get it now and thank me later . . . . . . . . .
    • 074 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) I have to admit that I mostly bought this collection for Chrono Trigger , and as such I'll have to remain silent about Final Fantasy IV .

    • 077 4  Both Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger are excellent games ( CT could be my favorite game of all time ) . Final Fantasy IV has been excellently restored to its original hardtype version . Story elements and dialog have been restored , which is extremely exciting . However , I have a complaint about the port . Somewhere in the port , the code for saving a game was not optimized for the playstation but instead uses a version that works fine on solid-state memory ( like a cartridge , which these games were originally on ) but horribly when going from CD to solid-state . This is a serious flaw , as saves can take up to half a minute to complete . That is why this game gets 3 stars on overall .
    • 078 4  There is a demand for Chrono Trigger . That is evident ; just do a quick eBay search and you'll see [ money amount ] price tags popping up , multiple bids on every auction for just the game cartridge for an out-of-production game system . It was an interesting and fun game . I used to play Final Fantasy series games . My favorite , after I'd played them through seven , was Final Fantasy II ( IV ) for the SNES . I don't really know what strikes me about this game , I just know that if I have to pick a favorite Final Fantasy , this one is it . So when I rented FFChronicles I was thrilled to play FF4 , the original Hardtype version never released in America . I was also excited about Chrono Trigger . . . . but the truth is that these are two different games on two separate disks . Final Fantasy IV plays well from its disk . Apparently much of the game fits into Playstation's memory , so load times are refreshingly short and unnoticeable . It's not like playing on a blazing cartridge-based SNES , but it's not that bad . Chrono Trigger is that bad . It came out a few years later than FF4 did , closer to the end of the SNES's lifespan ( and during a time when developers were finding ways to pump better and better graphics , sound , effects , etc . from the machine ) . One way I imagine that Squaresoft was able to achieve the graphics and sound of Chrono Trigger was to take advantage of the load times of the SNES cartridge . Unfortunately , when translated to a system that has much more of a problem loading new information from the game medium ( like Playstation ) , you see _ evil things _ . How bad could it be ? While playing the game , hit Triangle . Then count _ several seconds _ while the menu loads . I promise . This wouldn't bother me that badly , but it's such a frequently-used feature , such an inherent piece of the game that it seems rediculous to force a multiple-second load time every time you want to use it . To me , the true measure of how ' good ' a game is is the fun factor . Is it fun ? While Chrono Trigger SNES was , I'm sorry to say that the load times . . and , I'm not easily swayed , mind you . . but the LOAD TIMES actually reduce the fun I have with this game , and worse , make me yearn badly for the SNES version . So , if you've never played this game before Playstation , find someone you know , a wierd kind of person , into perhaps really strange and unkown bands , with plenty of posters on his walls , who actually has a Super Nintendo and Chrono Trigger . . and play it at his house .
    • 079 4  A word of warning for all those who still own older , grey playstations , instead of the new white PS1s . Final Fantasy IV will simply not work on the older system , and Chrono Trigger will work only occasionally . Hopefully Square will remedy these defects , as many gamers have been frustrated already . On to the games . Final Fantasy IV is already one of my favorite RPGs ever . The graphics are quaint and cool , the music is wonderfully energetic and the gameplay is topnotch . Sure , the story's a bit cliched but this game is such a joy to play that it can be forgiven . ( 5 / 5 ) Chrono Trigger , the prequel to last year's Chrono Cross , is also a groundbreaking RPG . The nifty battle system gives the gameplay more variety and the story is fascinating . Unfortunately , the load times are absolutely inane , but the game is still an interesting experience . ( 4 / 5 ) FF Chronicles wraps these games up in a nice classy package , so don't even think about passing them up . Unless you own an older grey PS1 .
    • 080 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) One of my favorite games as a kid was Chrono Trigger . This version is just as fun as the original . Great story , great gameplay , and great sound design . I'd never played Final Fantasy IV until I bought this pack . FFIV has become one of my favorite Final Fantasy games . The story is excellent , with good character development along the way . It's really a fun game and wish I had been able to play this game as a kid .

To get my hands on this game brought back a lot of old memories . I should note , that I give this game 5 stars for what it was and what it is . It is a great story , and while the graphics and combat system are a bit dated , still quite enjoyable . This is an excellent game for those wanting to get aqainted with how things were back in the day of mid 90 ' s gaming . Being able to see anime clips that further detail the story is a great bonus . Also : I have not played FFIV , so can't comment on that part .

    • 097 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) I wasn't expecting too much coming from this FF title , mainly because I never really hear anything about it . People always rave about 6 , 7 , 10 , etc . . . but you don't hear much about 4 . I bought it because I wanted to own every FF game , and just figured I would think the game was okay , or good at best . Turns out this game was a lot of fun . It's my favorite pre-PS1 FF game . The characters are diverse , the story is interesting , and it's just a very fun game over all .

    • 110 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Since my semi-retirement from video games , I feel like I've lost touch with some of the new games of today . A lot has happened in my life ( which is why you'll find a 2 + year gap between a couple of my reviews ) , and have focused on school and other things . But I've been meaning to get this review up for a long time , and it's high time I did that . I'll try not to go nerdy here , but this is my personal favorite video game , not only on the Super NES , but of all time . I'm probably not the only one that shares this , as in a recent Nintendo Power magazine fans voted Chrono Trigger #3 most wanted game to be put on the Wii console , right behind #2 ' s Super Mario RPG and #1 ' s Terra-Gnigma . And it's also coming to Nintendo DS . Chrono Trigger follows the tale of time traveling adventurers . Marle , the princess of Guardia , is whisked through time accidently by Lucca's transporter and Crono ( the lead character who rarely speaks ) decides to go and save her , which leads to a series of time altering events , new characters , and the ultimate final battle with Lavos . Lavos is the main villain , a parasitic life form that's been on the planet since the stone age and used the world's resources to allow mankind to evolve , thus empowering Lavos for millenia until 1999 A.D . , when Lavos nearly wipes out the human race . We are introduced to awesome playable characters : Frog , formerly a knight named Glenn from the middle ages ; Magus , a sorceror from the dark magical age that Frog seeks revenge upon ; Robo , a robot from the future and turns against the evil robots and develops his own personality ( a la Data from Star Trek ) . Lucca , Crono's friend , is a super smart inventor with a childhood regret . Ayla , a prehistoric babe that seeks retribution against the Reptites in the Prehistoric Age . And Marle , the future ruler of Guardia , and is swept up in a tale of high adventure and time . The characters are very memorable and even if you were playing today , you'd be rooting for them during the game . Magus is out to destroy Lavos and is very narcissistic , especially towards Frog ; Frog is a young heroic knight who carries the burden of failing to save Cyrus , his hero . Marle wants to be free despite her royal upbringing . Lucca yearns to correct her mistake of failing to save her mother from injury . Robo aspires to become more human and constructive , and by the end of the game , he'll be one of your favorite characters . Ayla's warrior-like personality may have you thinking impure thoughts about a Super NES character ( and she's bisexual , in the original Japanese translation , LOL ) . . . and Crono is the main hero and rarely speaks , but his heroic nature and adventorous spirit is the drive of the story . There are many aspects of this game to appreciate . The intricate storyline with multiple endings might seem common now , but back then , it was practically unheard of . There's also some dark parts in the storyline ( Frog having to avenge Cyrus because Magus killed him , Lucca feeling responsible for her mother's injury , etc . ) as well as downright goofy parts ( Knights of the Square Table ? And what's with pouring soda on Toma's grave ? ) . The music , mostly contributed by Yasunori Mitsuda , is considered a classic SNES gem and is actually the most covered game of all time on OCRemix.org ( I think it's got 87 remixes , as of this writing ) . This soundtrack NEVER gets old . I read in an interview that Mitsuda had ulcers making the score and Nobuo Uematsu and Norika Matsueda had to finish the soundtrack ( only a few tracks ) ; he loved doing the score so much that he had ulcers . Hardcore ! Gameplay wise , it's relatively simple by today's standards . You've three of your characters in battle and depending on your combination , the double tech and triple tech combinations are different . I always found this to be unique , and haven't seen it utilized much in later games . The graphics were outstanding for the time ; animated in a colorful and very Toriyama-esque style , its pretty smooth for a Super Nintendo game . The magic spells look fantastic , even in 1995 when this game first came out . I didn't find this too harsh in difficulty growing up , and I still find it to be relatively easy . I think this is a definite plus because if you are a young pup and want a good dosage of RPG Heaven , then this would be a GREAT place to start . This is one of the rare games where the creators didn't want to make money off of it , nor did they want to make a turd for a quick buck . They spent time , energy , and enthusiasm on Chrono Trigger , and honestly , I think it shows . The storyline combined with awesome music , smooth gameplay , and emotionally-driven characters makes this a rariety . This game leaves you with a happy feeling and a sense of accomplishment for beating it ( and if you're an old school gamer like me , nostalgia as well . ) . Part of the reason I also love this game was because the friendships I've attained through this game , which might seem a little silly . But hey , it was 1996 , and Chrono Trigger was caught in the growing up scheme of things . Overall , I highly recommend this game , especially to the first-time gamer . It's not too difficult and it has a lot to offer . Now that it's coming to DS with a revamped translation ( kinda like what they did with Castlevania Symphony of the Night . . . ) , it's easy to obtain . Or you can also find it on Final Fantasy Chronicles for PlayStation . Either way , this game is a must-buy . . . don't pass on the adventure of a lifetime !

    • 112 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) If I had enjoyed Final Fantasy IV a bit more than I did , the review would be 5 stars . There's nothing inherently wrong with the game , it just didn't give me the same feeling as the other classic Final Fantasies have . Along with 6 , 4 is an FF that was well made but just inexplicably unable to draw me in ( the opposite of FF7 , which I got into while I played but seems so shabby when I look back at it ) . 4 is certainly for someone , but it's not for me , you'll have to compare it against your own tastes . Chrono Trigger , on the other hand , is a prime example of a classic RPG . While the protagonist is silent , the other characters develop well along the storyline . The weapon and skill system is set up to nigh-perfection ; everyone has a set role , but Square manages to pull it off without making the system too limited . The music , while a bit dated , is still rather pleasant and the graphics are vibrant compared to its contemporaries .

    • 119 4  Since this is a compilation game that consists of two games I'll review them separately . First , before that , I just want to remark that these two games were perhaps the two of the greatest RPGs to hit the SNES in America . Final Fantasy IV was marketed to the American audience as Final Fantasy 2 and Chrono Trigger is often called the best RPG ever created and has a fan base larger than many of the big hits of today . Final Fantasy IV : - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Final Fantasy IV ( or 2 American ) is definitely one of the more interesting storylines and is as exciting to play now as it was back when it was first created . The general story revolves around one man's quest to understand himself and in the process atone for his sins committed in the past . It's different than the usual Final Fantasy's in that characters who are in your party leave and come back throughout the storyline but you never have the ability to select your own party . So one character may run off to do something and you'll quickly have him replaced by another . It definitely removes the need to switch around characters to level them all up but when you get stuck with characters you may find goofy ( cough Cid , cough ) you're stuck with them until the story progresses . The most groundbreaking thing about the story , which never really happens in RPGs these days so much was that characters in the story may die at times ( as part of the story ) . It's just something that most stories today shy away from but playing through Final Fantasy IV I never knew if I'd lose someone in my team and it always made me cling to the story hoping for the best even when put into impossible situations in the story . Pros : The game's major flaw was how slow your character moved . That one tiny enhancement makes a world of a difference playing . Same great story . Cons : It still uses the old four block save system . How does this translate to the playstation saves ? You have to save this gigantic file onto your memory card and then inside of that file save on one of the four saves . It just doesn't make sense why they didn't update that . It's a slow process to save as well . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Chrono Trigger - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Had this game been released without any changes , it likely would have been fine as it was . Still the CG movies added to it are somewhat interesting . The game revolves around an interesting story dealing with time travel and brings you to the edge of your morality as you understand the complex interactions between the characters . As you begin to unravel the story you instantly remember pieces of it unveiled earlier and begin to make connections , something most stories in RPGs today lack as well . Another fun piece of the game was the multiple endings it had . This isn't like Final Fantasy X - 2 ' s good or bad ending style but a unique ending system that involved how you went about beating it and at what point in the game you were at when you beat it . For example , one ending , if you beat it before completing one storyline , caused the world to become an imp only world where they lived like humans do . It's just a fun game all around . Pros : Great game , I don't even need to list these , an amazing piece to add to your collection . Cons : Nothing I can really speak to .
    • 122 4  This is an excellent compilation of two great games . Final Fantasy IV ( or FFII in the US ) is one of my favorite games . Both games in this package have excellent stories and enthralling gameplay , especially if you're into the old school RPGs .
    • 125 4  I dont know much about the final fantasy series in this game , however Chrono Trigger is probably the best RPG OldSchool game that I've ever played in my life . ( I'm pretty sure the final fantasy series in this game is groovy too . ) Chrono Trigger is pretty much , the best and funnest game ever made in the 90 ' s for the SNES ( including for Final Fantasy 3 or 6 ) The battle system in CHrono Trigger is really cool and the graphic and music in this game was probably the best out there during its time . Plus you also get to travle back and forth in time , saving the world and finding new characthers as you do of course . And another thing , after you beat the game , you can start another game with all the stuff and charater levels in your previous game . The thing I love the most about Chrono Trigger is that there is a lot of endings to unlock , although I've never unlocked them all . This game brings back memories . . . This game is a must ! If not for the final fantasy series , then atleast for Chrono Trigger . BUY IT NOW ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
    • 126 4  Any console RPG fan should do themselves a favor and pick this up , even if it's for Chrono Trigger alone . There are a few new things to entice gamers who already bought the SNES version , like animated sequences and a few other extras . Both games are classics and are a great addition to any console RPG collection .
    • 127 4  While Anthology was a good collection , offering two classic games with extras , the overall transfered data was horrendous , providing slowdown and lesser versions of the music . Chronicles is a direct transfer as well , but it's a HUGE improvement . You are able to play two amazing games , FFIV and Chrono Trigger . Both are equally great , but what surprised me most was the fresh approach to Chrono Trigger . Fans with the soundtrack will notice that Triggers music has been re-arranged , and though very similar to its original version , the overall effect creates a much more dramatic feeling when used . Certain songs have been improved , while others are almost identical to their original versions . IV is the same music , just without the echo effect used in SNES's II version . IV has literally slowdown while Triggers unfortunatley does . Saying that , it doesn't dampen the gameplay at all . If you don't have these two title on SNES already , get Chronicles . It's a great addition to your library !
    • 128 4  The much anticipated re-release of two of Square's greatest SNES RPGs - - FFIV ( known as FFII in America ) and Chrono Trigger - - FFC is a feast for old-school gamers and younger ones who never got the chance to try these masterpieces . While I like FFIV and it's Active Time battle system , I adore Chrono Trigger and it's rich gameplay . CT could beat FFIV up and take it's lunch money every day . Given that bias , I intend to completely forego the FFIV review in favor of CT . Chono Trigger was - - is - - a feast for RPG fans . A deep storyline that spans the eons , an unforgettable cast of well developed characters , good graphics ( especially considering the time of development ) , and an excellent soundtrack give ample reason to play CT for hours on end with only soda and potato chips as sustanance . The battle system is smooth , the music perfectly accents the story and game ( from the creepy music at Magus's Castle to the battle music at each of Lavos's three forms ) . Add to that the FIFTEEN DIFFERENT ENDINGS and you'll see why anyone would be happy to spent months playing and replaying the game . Also , New Game + allows replay with all the stats and items of the previous file , so each run-through need not be tedious . It's a pleasure to see the goofy antics of Reptites , or the drama of Glenn's quest against Magus to unfold . The new FMVs drawn by the Dragon Ball Z artist himslef and bonus features unlocked by getting endings add to a mix that can only be called perfect . All that and few of the long loading problems and skipping from Final Fantasy Anthologies . The only flaws that come to mind are the insane effort that has to put into levelling up after you reach a certain point ( but by then it's totally unnecessary ) , and that each run-through gets progessively easier as you carry over more levels and item , so much that it becomes a joke to beat Lavos . But in the end , CT was fun . Very fun . If you never played it on the SNES , try what you've been missing . If you indeed did play it through on the SNES , play through again not only for new features , but also for the sheer fun that is Chrono Trigger .
    • 129 4  I rented this game and then had to return it before I was done . Now I absolutely HAVE to buy it . I'm not especially great at these games , but I found Chrono Trigger so engaging I just had to keep playing , and I was actually doing pretty well by the time I had to return it . I also seemed to be going through it a lot faster than with my other games . The graphics were great , especially considering how long ago they were done , and the new stuff was , of course , even better ( how could it not be ? ) I also enjoyed the music , even a week later when it was still playing in my head . The battles weren't impossible even for an amateur like me , but it wasn't point , shoot , you win either . I must confess I got lost the first time in the prehistoric land , so for everyone as clueless as I was : the hunting grounds are north . I also liked the shopping system ( seems like it had more variety than others I've played ) and the enemies were great . And of course , I loved the characters , the story , the magic . . . the WHOLE GAME . As for its companion , the Final Fantasy game ( I won't even bother giving it a number , you know what I mean ) , well let's just say I'm buying this for Chrono Trigger . I may not be great at these things , but at least I usually care . Somehow I found myself getting bored five minutes into it . The graphics didn't bug me , and the story was all right I guess , but it just didn't seem to grab me . I let myself die in the first or second battle just to see what would happen , and then nothing ever really said play again . I picked the game up because I had recently played FF9 and loved it , but this just didn't measure up for me . I was about to put it away when I remembered a friend mentioning the game Chrono Cross ( the sequel , you know ) and so I started playing Chrono Trigger to see what it was all about . I believe I already mentioned that I loved it . Well , after writing this I'm positively itching to play Chrono Trigger again , and I'll even give that other one a try too . Maybe it's better than I remember .
    • 130 4  For years , I've heard about Final Fantasy II ( IV in Japan ) and Chrono Trigger , both Super Nintendo classics . However , I never got to play them . . Now that I have , I can see that both games are as great as they are considered to be . FFIV is not my favorite Final Fantasy ( I've played IV-IX ) , but it is a good game . As Squaresoft loudly proclaimed , this version is based on the Japanese edition , not the US release . The game is now harder than the Super Nintendo version and translation was redone ( Though some infamous quotes were kept ) . Sadly , the only bonus features for FF IV are two CG movies . Chrono Trigger was probably the best SNES game created . This rerelease originally came out as a stand-alone game in Japan . Therefore , it has many more extras than FF IV . These include awesome anime scenes , a music selection option , and other features I have yet to unlock . If you are an RPG fan , this game is worth $40 . Only those who can't tolerate Super Nintendo graphics should skip this game . Actually , buying this game and a PSone may very well be cheaper than buying both these games for SNES .
    • 135 4  Putting FF4 and Chrono Trigger together was a great idea.the Final Fantasy series in my opinion is the best series ever and Chrono Trigger is the best game ever so that combination was the best ever !
    • 136 4  Whoever decided to rerelease these games is an utter genius . Crono trigger with it's added scenes was great . Plus all the added features at the end of the game are great . While FFIV can't compare with the current titles it is still a classic game and for many people their first final fantasy . These two great games prove that fancy graphics aren't everything .
    • 137 4  great deal , 2 great games , great value ! to much slowdown though
    • 138 4  One word - - wow ! ! ! Playstation fans may be in a bit of a shock , for the graphics were originally made for SNES ( anotherwords , 16 - 32 bit ) . Nonetheless , these are not games to be ignored - - they are two of the most popular SNES titles around . Both come with new animation sequences ( CT's anime , FF4 ' s 3D ) , and are relatively simple to understand , control wise . Both have absorbing stories , good music , and characters you want to care about . A word of warning : FF4 has some mild language in it .
    • 140 4  I ` ve played Final Fantasy since the first one was released for Nes and I have also played Chrono Trigger several times . I must say that it's really awesome to be able to play these two games again , because the stories on both ( FF IV - II - and Chrono Trigger ) are amazing . You'll get hooked up from the beginning and believe me that you'll suffer when finishing both because those games are the kind of games everyone misses when they're finished . . . so if you like RPG games then this choice is the best you can make
    • 142 4  _ _ _ _ _ I loved the story of FFIV . I played it way back in the day on SNES , but that was with one of my friends and we basically flew through the game without doing much exploration . But the story was what I remembered most , and I'm glad I was given the opportunity to play it again . If you love the melodrama and memorable characters of the FF series ( or any Square RPG for that matter ) , and you don't care about outdated graphics and sound , then pick this game up . _ _ _ _ _ This review is premature since I haven't checked out Chrono Trigger yet , but it really doesn't make a difference . CT was the best RPG ever on the SNES . Again , I'm glad to have the chance to play it without having to buy a SNES and find a CCT cart .
    • 146 4  This game is one of the most astounding games I've played and I hope that everyone else thinks so too . I mean who would want more ? ! It has 2 of the greatest snes games on the psx ! I mean FFIV has a great storyline , and Chrono Trigger has both great graphincs and an excellent storyline . . . a heck of a deal !
    • 147 4  Sqaresoft really outdid themselves this time ! It is easily one of the best games of all times . Chrono Trigger is better this time around do to the awesome rendered sequences of the game . Dragonball Z fans will recognize the art because Toriyama did the art . FFIV is a very exciting and fun game , due to the challenge . I will always enjoy playing this one of a kind game and people who don't own it should !
    • 149 4  I basically bought this for FFIV so that's what I'm going to review . This is my favorite game of all time . I've been playing this game ever since it came out and have beaten it at least a dozen times . It's the only game I can honestly say that I know like the back of my hand . This is the real version of the game and is much more challenging ( I actually got killed by the Dark Elf ! ) and unedited . What really shines is the new translation . I hadn't realized how poorly translated the old version was . So much more character developement has been included in the game . Although , a few spots could have been better . I cringed when I heard the phrase S'up G ? The first time Kain turns bad , Cecil tells him he's beeing controled by Golbez . This takes away from the mystery of his betrayal . Oh well . Although this game takes a while to get going , if you give it a chance , you'll find yourslef greatly enjoying it . This is truly the most epic of the FF series . You end up going into the core of the moon , for pete's sake !
    • 151 4  Its about time final fantasy 4 came out for playstation . I love that game . . . . . But , its coming out with CG movies , and thats awsome ! I dont need to rent it , its a sure buy . Anyways , FF4 was the key final fantasy game that got them popular . It was the reason I started to like the Final Fantasy series . The only thing I could think of that could be wrong with these games is the grafics are super nintendo grafics . It doesnt bother me , i liek the old school graphics , but , it seems to scare off many gamers . Overall this game is fantastic , 2 classic RPGs that started it all .
    • 152 4  As you must already know , this is a re-release of two great games , Chrono Trigger and FFIV . Both are superb and were some of the SNES's best games. When I got my SNES , my first video game system , at the same time the PSone was released ( 1995 ) and , despite owning some very nice games - DK Country 1 - 3 , Kirby Games , Mario All-Stars , Mario RPG . I missed out on some great games like these . I soon realized great games that I had missed and wanted to get them back - Zelda , Metroid , FFII-II ( or FFIV and FFVI ) , Mario Kart and so on . I hunted down Zelda ( without much difficulty ) and am currently searching for Super Metroid . But where were the great Final Fantasies ? I found FF Anthology recently at my local Babbages . . . and bought it to play on my PS2 , and there was much rejoicing . Then I saw FF Chronicles . I knew that FFIV would be good and I quickly learned about Chrono Trigger . Both games started trends in RPGs like Multiple Endings , Path Choosing , and Chocobo Riding . I got the game recently and I love both of the classics , and there was more rejoicing . Chrono Trigger looks and plays great , I feel that the game is one of the best ever . I also enjoy the anime scenes as well , I think that the choice to make animated cut-scenes was a better desicion that CGI cut-scenes were , mainly because the scenes are by Dragonball's Akira Toryiama and look great despite some slight choppiness at parts . FFIV is also great and I am hard-pressed when I look at the box which game to play . There are some loading problems , mainly when entering battle and switching to the sub-screen , but since the cartriges cost so much I think that if you look over the old graphics ( they were pretty damn good in their day ! ) and try to ignore the load times , this game is worth it all the way .
    • 154 4  2 Of the most sought out games in square history has reached the psx . . . Chrono Trigger , An Amazing RPG , Once One Of The Hardest SNES Games To Get , Now Comes Back And Better Than Before ! Enhanced Media , New Anime Movies Added To Enhance The Feel Of The Game Play , And The Same Great Game We Have Grown To Love And Play Over And Over Again . And Must Not Forget The FF That Brung Forth RPG Players Everywhere , FFIV * Before was 2 * This Great Game Will Provide You With Challenges And Hours Of Gameplay For A Long Time . . . 2 Great Games In 1 Great Package , HIGHLY Recommended !
    • 155 4  I am a RPG-er mania . I think all FF ( Final Fantasy ) game are great . The worst is FF8 , but FFChronicles is the best FF , I ever played . Why ? Because it's not only have FFIV , it's also have Chrono Trigger . The prequel of Chrono Cross .
    • 156 4  Two of my favorite games final arrive on the more advance system . Alright , Let's talk about games . Boy ! what changes they've made for FF4 . The dialogs contain a lot of slangs and some curse words ; I guess they tried to make it fit todays way of life . Also , items were renamed to match the common names of the current FF Series . For example , Cecil's Armorment used to call Black , now they called them Demons . Nonetheless , This game still rock . As for Chrono Trigger , what can I say , it's nothin ' but the best and keeps on ticking .
    • 157 4  This is a great thing Square has done . It is impossible to find Chrono Trigger anywhere . And Final Fantasy IV ( FF2 ) was and still is one of my personal favorites outta the FF series ( Along side Final Fantasy , Final Fantasy VI , and Final Fantasy IX ) They have redone almost 85% of the script for FF IV which makes those that have played it before ( Like me ) Experience the real deepness of the story . The only draw back to this collection is the small loading times in Chrono Trigger . Besides that , this collection is well worth it ! ! LONG LIVE THE FINAL FANTASY SERIES ! !
    • 160 4  This game is extremely wonderful ! Let me start by saying that I have played these games before , and since you could emulate em ' , you might figure why bother buying ? In typical Square fahion the extras are cool , but not worth a purchase , and with a poor . . . job in terms of actual production ( the load times can be harsh ) , why bother ? Because along with these faults , these 2 games have AWSOME GAMEPLAY & STORYLINES ! ! ! ! Throw some wicked cutscenes into the mix and you truly have something special . So in closing I say buy this game . For newbies ( to the games ) it's awsome , for vets its solid and . . . everyone else ! !
    • 161 4  Final Fantasy Chronicles was releases on Friday , June 29 . I recieved the game on its release date and took it home immediately . After frantically ripping the wrapping and the sticker-label off , I removed the Chrono Trigger disc and inserted it into my Playstation . The opening anime cut-scene is pretty cool but a little choppy at times ( don't worry not all of the cut-scenes are choppy ) . To sum up the Chrono Trigger portion of FFC I have to rate this one a 4 . If you want to open up the menu , or try to battle you should expect at most a 7 second wait . I AM glad to see that Square even paid attention to the game in the first place . I personally thought that they would ignore all the please bring back CT letters . The Akira Toryama anime cut-scenes are a great addition to this game though . The music is re-done and the graphics are a little cleaner ( barely noticeable though , to retain the look of the original ) . All in All . . . IT'S CHRONO TRIGGER ! ! What else could you possibly want from Square ? ( They already have FFT covered too , expect that in July . ) If you want Chrono Trigger for a fair price with bonus extras mode and anime scenes , then get this . Now on to FF2 ( IV ) . FFIV is great on Chronicles . The load times aren't as grim as with CT and the script has been totally re-written . ( Let's hope that they don't leave out the spoony bard line though ) . It is great and Square did a great job putting this on CD . The movie scenes are FF7esque and the menu is easily accesible . Not much more to be said about this game , it wasn't messed up as much . In closing , I recommend this game to those unfortunate souls who missed either Chrono Trigger or FF2 on SNES ( including myself ) . If you have BOTH titles on SNES don't waste your money on this title unless you want them strictly for cut-scenes or to complete your collection . I gave this game 5 stars because I am thrilled that they brought these two classics back and with so many new things to explore about them . I hope this review helps you .
    • 162 4  Sorry Lauren , but FF 5 never made it to the States until Square put out thier Anthology for the PS1 . It was FF 6 that was released as FF 3 in the states . Here's the breakdown : FF 1 - Released as FF in the States , FF 2 - Recently released under Square's FF Origins , FF 3 - Never released in the States , FF 4 - released as FF 2 in the States , FF 5 - released a couple years back under FF Anthology , FF 6 - released as FF 3 in the states , and FF 7 - released in both Japan and the US as FF 7 . Ever since number 7 they have been the same in both countries .
    • 163 4  Here's what I think . I loved the ones for SNES ( although Chrnono Trigger was a little too easy ) . However , gamers who have already played FF2 American ( or better , 4 Japanese , the hard version ) and Chrono Trigger , don't get this game . It takes a lot longer to save , it's slower , and the add-in animation scenes and movie clips are very few and short . About the only good difference was in FF4 , but if you really want to play the original FF4 instead of the American FF2 , simplified version , then just go to Japan and get that game . Because , honestly , I don't think the new features are worth it . All the abilities and items aren't new , jsut restored , and it is all in the Japanese version .
    • 164 4  This is broken into two parts . Final Fantasy 4 is first then Chrono Trigger . Note that the combined score is 4 stars . Final Fantasy 4 : The prodigal son returns some would say . This time it is the athentic Japanese version too . To those who don't know the Super Nintendo release was , shall we say , dumbed down for the Americans ( since when are Americans dumb ? We are 10 and 1 after all : review history if you don't understand ) . Not anymore . The script is the original . No more you spoony bard , which was much more colorful in the Japanese version . New spells , abilites , and even monsters have arrisen and have kicked the game's difficulty up several notches . As if the game wasn't hard enough to begin with . The music is still the same old 16 - bit music but it still is moving . The story is very deep and contains death , betrayal , and love . This was back when Square focused more on story than on graphics and cinematics . Speaking of which the cinematics are beautiful . They do show ! signs of being not as well done as some other CG movies that Square has produced . This game received 4.5 stars . Chrono Trigger : The prequel of Chrono Cross with many sad problems . The main one is the hideously evil load times . These mainly occur during the battle and non-battle mode changes . The lag time is about three seconds in many places . This slows down the game in such a way that those who played the original cartidge will quickly become antsy because things are taking longer then they are used to . The slow down also makes it hard to build levels without going mad . The slowdown also affects the anime movies . The beginning sequence is jumpy and seems to progress very oddly . The movies would have been beautifully well done if only they didn't have these problems . The music is very well done as well . Who could forget Magus's dark theme or Frog's heroic overture . They have returned , in all their Super Nintendo glory , and have been well preserved . As an added feature you can ! access any of the movies , songs , and other specials after you have come across them or have completed one of the 12 + endings in the game . The story is very complex and it is hard to keep up with , especially with several time periods and many things happening at once . This usually occurs after you get to . . . The End of Time . Insert onimous music here . A very deep skill and tech system is the games crowning feature , and gives you the reason to fight the maddeningly slowed down battles . All in all the game received 3.5 stars . It is fairly obvious that the gem in this re-release is Final Fantasy 4 . My recommendation would be to play this first .
    • 165 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) I remember as a kid ( not that long ago ) and playing Chrono Trigger on my friends Super NES and how friggin awesome it was . When I found out that it was later released for the playstation I wasted no time in ordering it and popping it into my PS2 . ( Note you MUST have a PS1 memory card in order to save ) Other than this there is no problem in the translation of this game to the Playstaion . Also added to the Playstation version are amazing new cut sequences . I have yet to play the FFIV but I will eventually . These games are both classics and a must have for all seriouse RPGers .

    • 167 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) FFIV ( Final Fantasy II in USA ) and Chrono Trigger are some of the best that SquareSoft has to offer . I do believe that both are equally good games and do have moving storylines . FFIV have been much more harder than the original that was been released on Super Nintendo . In my opinion , the only loading times is when you LOAD the game and saving as well . Now there is an extra MEMO save feature included for players ' convienience . It saves just as fast as the SNES by using the Playstation hardware as a temporary save if players wish to continue playing . Then on the final save is on the memory card which does take time and assumed that the player will shut the game off . So loading was not such a big deal in FFIV since there are absolutely no loading DURING gameplay . Just saving onto the memory card to save and turn off the game . My main gripe about the game is that there are no CG during certain points of gameplay . Just at the beginning and the end , that's all ! Chrono Trigger has been remastered very well in the playstation . The CGs are great and the only downfall about this title is the loading times when going to menus . It seems that Chrono Trigger has been the focus on remastering the title rather than FFIV . FFIV only has a couple of movies , but overall , great revisted title . Got harder , fixed tranlation on the text , more extra skills for the characters to use than the one on the SNES . Chrono Trigger has more movies than FFIV , and seem to be more well looked at by the company than FFIV in my opinion . If anyone is complaining about the save waiting and loading times , USE THE MEMO SAVE ! Then when you are ready to turn off the game , then that's the time to save onto the memory card and go through that ONE moment of waiting time .

    • 169 4  I don't know what Karl is on , but had he known he did not appreciate the genre of RPGs , perhaps he would refrain from using such sheer stupidity in his review . The fact is these are classics for any rpg fan , and not some redneck gun enthusiast . If there is any drawback , it is the loading times . These games were classic on the SNES , but the transfer to PS always brings the baggage of loading , and allows the games to lose some of their nostalgic flavour . Final Fantasy 4 was the first RPG I ever played , and Chrono Trigger I consider to be the greatest SNES game of all time . The animations are a nice addition ( Except for the FF4 one . Bleh ! ) , but play these for what they're based around : Two of the greatest classics available for wide release .
    • 170 4  First of all , in this review I am only reviewing Chrono Trigger . If you enjoyed this review and want to see my review on FF4 in the future , just look for an X in the title . Now for the review . One of the greatest games ever created has been re-realesed on the playstation and this is it . Former Super Nintendo owners will be in heaven while newcomers might think that this game is outdated they are entirely incorrect . This game has one of the best story lines ever created and some characters that you can actually care about . I am goung to divide this review into two parts : The good and the bad . Then at the end i will give my final review on the game . The Good : Graphics - although some people may think that these graphics are dated but they are possibly the best 2D graphics in any game . Control - the control in this game is excellent . Unlike other games which leave you throwing your controler across the room , Chrono Trigger's controls are the best I have ever seen in a game . The only time I found myself in that situation is when you are on the ice on the mountain , but even that is not that bad . Sound - the soundtracks on this game are some of the best , and the added music box is a nice treat . Replay - With the New Game + feature and the 12 different endings , the replay value is high . The Bad : The only thing that could have had a little more work is the incredibly slow loading times . Extras : New Cinema Movies - the new movies are great . Hand drawn by the person who had drawn Dragon Ball Z . The Music Box - already mentioned . Overall Review : Graphics : 10 out of 10 Sound : 10 out of 10 Control : 10 out of 10 Ingenuity : 10 out of 10 Replay : 10 out of 10 Gameplay : 10 out of 10 Fun Factor : 10 out of 10 Perfect Score ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Tip : If you find this gme in the store ( used or new ) get it because it is really hard to find . Thats it for my review thanks for your time .
    • 171 4  Final Fantasy II ( or IV as it is called in Japan ) was one of the best RPGs of it's time and I've just started to play it again thanks to Chronicles . Crono Trigger is also heralded as one of the best RPGs of the 90s , I've never played it but I pretty sure that I'll like it . Although FF II ( IV ) could show it's age when I play it now , and Crono Trigger could turn out to [ stink ] as well , I'll just have to wait and see .
    • 173 4  Ok , I'd like to start with the fact that Chrono Trigger flat out did not even start on my PS2 . This bothers me . For the benefit of the doubt , however , I will account this to product defects ( the disc's broken ) . Therefore , this review is entirely on the FF4 port . ( Although the only reason I got this game was for CT , i don't have it yet ) Ok , I like the new text , it adds a little more depth to us veterans . . . well , some of it does . In fact , some of it feels too . . . modernized . It feels like I'm reading this off a chat room , and not listening to the actual characters . And what the spoony ? They cut out my favorite line ! ; ) And the sounds ? Dear , sweet lord , why must my ears bleed each time I shop ? They horribly butchered the sound effects . And it's not my speakers , cause i just got done playing the REAL FF4 on my SNES . And especially after playing the real game , this new version just looks . . . off . Kinda pale and sickly if you ask me . Plus the overworld backgrounds don't look right . And don't you DARE tell me that Square couldn't have spent some actual time making this game better than , or at least up to par with , the SNES version . Both the PS1 and PS2 are much more advanced machines than the pansy SNES was . All in all , I only gave this game two stars because I feel cheated out of my hard earned money into buying a game I already own that's not even as good as the original . And , spoony , it only earned that second star ' cause the original is the best RPG I've played . So , for all of you who still have that old SNES sitting in the attic , with that shoebox full of games sitting next to it , you'll be much more satisfied and save you hard earned cash by busting it out again for another go . If you don't have the old cart , I suggest you borrow it from a friend who does . And for thoes of you without friends who have the SNES , just remember that Tellah is actually saying You spoony bard ! when he's beating Edward . That and the weapon knife is actually spoon . While this doesn't change anything , I'll be spooned if it's not funnier . But , like I said , I only bought it for CT , so we'll see how that goes when I get my game returned . - later - Ok , now that I've gotten a new copy of FFC , and CT works for my system ( thankfully ) . For this I'll give it another star . I'd like to say that although I've not yet played far enough to get into combat yet , the beginning of CT feels pretty much the same ( although the 5 second load times are annoying )
    • 174 4  I'm not going to say much , just that Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV are widely regarded as Square masterpieces . The chance to own Chrono Trigger so long after its original release on SNES is a dream come true . Something similar goes for FFIV : I have FFII for the SNES and I look forward to seeing the differences now that the entire story was retranslated and the original items and difficulty level have been restored . I hope they left the Spoony Bard in . . . it'd be a shame for such a catchphrase to be lost ; ) FFIV got me into these games in the first place , and I'm wonderfully pleased to own them again . Only complaint is the slowness of CT , but I can deal with that !
    • 176 4  If these games on the PlayStation can live up to the original super Nintendo versions , this is going to be a magnificent set . Final Fantasy IV ( previously known in America as FF2 ) is one of the best FFs ever , and Chrono Trigger is DEFINITELY on the list of best 5 RPGs ever , on my personal list it is number 3 behind only Final Fantasy 3 / 6 ( American number / Japanese or Anthology number ) and then Final Fantasy 8 . FF4 comes in at about 4 on my list of all-time rpgs , and I've played everything I've been able to get my hands on .
    • 177 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) This collection isn't as bonus feature happy as Anthology was . this version of FF4 ( 2 in the USA at the time of the SNES / Genesis era ) hasn't changed that much . the random battle loading screen is like the SNES version , the switch between field / world map to the character menu while loading is fast as hell ( while sadly Chrono Trigger is slower than the 2 FF games for the Anthology collection and even slower than the other Final Fantasy games for the PSone Era ( 7,8,9 ) ) Chrono Trigger has a lot of bonus features for this version . Squaresoft ( at the time ) put a S * * * load of cinemas ( mainly ending cinemas ) , has a list of music from the game , and other stuff . The gameplay is still the same , with the exception of what I said earlier , which is good otherwise . unlike Anthology , this collection has no bonus music CD ( for those who care anyway ) . this is still worth owning anyway .

    • 179 4  Normally I do not review on Amazon , but I am deeply surprised that no one else seemed to notice any of the flaws in the game that I did , considering how obvious they were : hmm . . . how many reviewers actually played this re-make . . . ? : ) So , before I begin this review , I would like to qualify that I'm a huge Squaresoft fan : I have played thirteen different final fantasy games , Chrono Trigger , Chrono Cross , Vagrant Story , and Xenogears . When I played FF4 and CT , I greatly enjoyed both . After purchasing the re-makes ( since I do not have an SNES anymore ) and playing them , I must say I was disappointed . First of all , the ' improvements ' that you'll actually care about : 1 . ) You can hold down the ' O ' button to run . 2 . ) The cut scenes from Chrono Trigger are well done and enjoyable to watch . Next , all the ' downgrades ' . 1 . ) The cut scenes for FF4 are a slap in the face . It's about 2 minutes of random , poor quality CG . 2 . ) The game now has loading times between different places ( towns , for example ) ; even with the loading times . . . . 3 . ) THE GAME RUNS SLOWER THAN IT DID ON THE SNES ! ! ! It's due to the fact that the PS has to read the data off the CD , while the SNES already had the whole game loaded into memory . It ran , on average , 1.2x slower than the original , but sometimes as high as 2.0x ! ! ! 4 . ) The battle timing mechanism for FF4 feels different from the SNES version , and IMHO , is worse . This may be a result of the slowdown discussed above . So in conclusion , these two games are both great classics ( 5 stars ) . However , if you've previously played them on the SNES or an emulator , you're going to be disappointed by how slowly they run ( - 3 stars ) .
    • 182 4  I haven't actually played this product yet , as it is a Christmas gift . However , I've been playing Chrono Trigger ( through the use of emulators and ROMs ) for over a decade . It is without a doubt one of the best games ever created . Even though its graphics are no where near as amazing as the games of today , its story and complexity are of a quality that is rarely , if ever , equaled . It has an endless amount of replay value given the multiple endings ( 11 or 12 I believe ) and various side quests . This version of the game also has well-done animated cutscenes that are lacking in the original Super Nintendo version . I have very little experience with the Final Fantasy series although from what I've played , they also seem enjoyable . Even if you're not a fan of Final Fantasy , the combination of the two games is well worth the price since I'd pay even more than this just for the Chrono Trigger game . Note : Since this is a Playstation One game , there is a strong chance that it will not play on Playstation 3 consoles . However , there should be no compatibility issues with the older ( and cheaper ) Playstation 2 or Playstation One consoles .
    • 183 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite games of all time . I purchased this set just for the PSX remake of Chrono Trigger with the added animated cut scenes . If you have the SNES version of Chrono Trigger this isn't really necessary unless you really like the game . Fun : 5 stars , Overall : 4 stars ( just because FF IV is included and I didn't really want it ) .

    • 186 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Games that were released in the Super NES ' heyday have been often named some of the best games ever released . Despite dated graphics , not-as-deep storylines or interaction-heavy gameplay , people still hold these games in huge regard and not just for nostalgia value . While personally I would've put Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger in one package , we still get Final Fantasy IV instead so it doesn't really matter . I'll do each game separately . Chrono Trigger Story : Crono is attending the Millennium Fair in Leene Square . He encounters a young girl named Marle who has a strange pendant and she tags along . While trying out Crono's scientist friend Lucca's new invention , Marle gets sent to the year 600 A.D . Crono goes after her and soon uncovers a future that is destructive to say the least . Graphics : Probably the best looking of the games on this package . Sprites are well-detailed , graphics are colorful and there's a certain charm among many of the different time periods . But the overworld graphics look genuinely ugly . Sound / Music : No VA but the music by Yasonuri Mitsuda is outstanding as always . The music tends to range from eerie atmospheric music to upbeat ones and even rock . My one complaint is that at times there's sections where a piece of music would be perfect for an event but then you get in a battle and that upbeat theme kills the mood . Gameplay : CT introduced many types of ideas including the New Game + where you can replay the game and get a different ending depending on when in the game you beat it . Also characters get special skills in battle which you can combine with other members to create more powerful spells . Frog and Crono can combine to create a swordsman skill but combine Crono and Lucca and he can use Fire-based sword attacks and so on . Final Fantasy IV Story : You are Cecil of the Red Knights and are ordered to do some rather morally questionable things which gets him kicked out . He finds out that Golbez is plotting to steal the world's crystals and throw the world into chaos so it's up to you and a diverse group to save the world . Graphics : Let's face it , these graphics now look iffy . While a lot of people can manage playing a game with visuals like these , you still look at it and notice how far along things have gotten . Sound / Music : No VA but Final Fantasy IV is often regarded as Nobuo Uematsu's first genuine sonic masterpiece . Me ? I think he started hitting his stride with VI . Don't get me wrong , IV has a lovely soundtrack but I find myself listening to VI and up's soundtracks more . Gameplay : Like games such as IX or VI , IV has distinct job classes , offering party members with specific skills . You have Cecil with his dark attacks , Kain with dragoon jumps , summoners , monks and bards . Other than that it's fairly straightforward and familiar from levelling up to item hunting and whatnot so there's nothing new but then again IV made a lot of things new so go figure . My one complaint out of the entire package is that CT has some annoying slowdown where there's a fair amount of delay going into battle and your menus but then again it has some nifty anime cutscenes as well as I。's FM。's so all in all , it's a good package for RPG fans .

    • 191 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Chrono Trigger and final fantasy II , some of the best RPGs that Squaresoft created for the Super Nes , of course the titles that gave Square the enough courage to get in the games industry again . . . remember Final Fantasy is the title , cause it was going to be the last title they will do as a Game Industry . Chrono Trigger , a group of young heros start a new adventure traveling in time and recreating the history by stopping the worst evil creature time had faced , and only they could stop it . . . With over 10 different endings , this became a hit , one of the best video games ever in the story of SNES . Final Fantasy II , not the best title I played , prefer Final 1 and Final 3 and Final 7 of course , but still for a RPG is one of the best games as the grandfather of RPGs . . .

    • 193 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV . . . I shouldn't have to say more than that . My son is named of one of the characters on FFIV , and it's one wonderful game . Chrono Trigger is always considered on the greatest RPGs of all time as well . Now , here's the problem , these games were created on the SNES console , not the Playstation console . While still fun , and very much playable , there is slow down , the screen doesn't adjust well ( leaving large empty spaces on the sides / bottoms of the screen ) , and just feels out of place . If you want to play this games , which I advise you to , try the GBA version of FFIV , and the SNES Version of Chrono Trigger . If those are hard to find or too pricey then . . . this should fulfill your need for these games . FFIV has added features , and a re-translation . I own it . . . of course , but that's mainly because I have all of the previous installments save FFIII for the Playstation .

    • 195 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy Chronicles is such a great game , I don't Know where to start . ( ! Attention ! , If you have a Super Nintendo and have Final Fantasy 4 and Chrono Trigger you don't really have to bother buying this game , unless you want to check out the added features ) . FF4 is just like the SNES version only its been enhanced with new magic , monsters , items , and CG ( computer generated ) cinemas and more stuff . I might be wrong , but I heard somewhere that the Playstation version is much harder than the SNES version . This game is quite entertaining , and the storyline is was one of the best I've seen . In my opinion , I thought Final Fantasy 7 was better in every way . Even though FF7 is better than 4 . 4 is still a pretty good game . that's about it for FF4 . If you liked Dragonball Z , then your gonna LOVE Chrono Trigger cause it's made by the Great Akira Toriyama ( you know the guy who made the characters from DBZ ) . I thought Chrono Trigger was better than FF4 in terms of gamplay , and graphcs . In my opinion , it ties between FF7 . ( only FF7 has better graphics ) . Chrono Trigger is the prequel to Chrono Cross . I thought Chrono Trigger was better than Chrono Cross . ( Chrono Cross's graphics were much better ) . Chrono Trigger has VERY little to do with Chrono Cross . Chrono Trigger is about a red haired boy named Crono ( NOT CHRONO ) , that travels through time along with his friends to save the world . The only thing bad about these two games is that the graphics are quite dated and that it takes a long time to load in Chrono Trigger when you pull out the menu sceen . I don't think Graphics that are a decade old shouldn't bother most gamers . If it does , then I'll beat you up . This game cost less right now than any of those two games did when they where brand new , especailly now in 2005 . Chrono Trigger was a rare , hard to find game at that time that usually sold somewhere around $60 . right now , it doesn't cost more than $20 . To me , FF4 is like an added bonus to Chrono Trigger in the final fantasy chronicles package . It would take a lot more to fully describe this game . I hope this review was helpful to you P.S . Get Final Fantast 7 while you're at it .

    • 198 4  2 unbeatable SNES RPG classics from the RPG specialists , revamped and better than ever before ! How an yo go wrong !
    • 199 4  First off with the Chrono Trigger re-release here some of the songs and sounds on this version are not as full as the original SNES version but the anime sequences placed in the game not to mention the added extras make up for this . And square also released a FF that was never in the states before . I would recommend for you to buy this however the price of this game is now exorbitant ( I got my copy used for 35 bucks at a used store Im guess Im lucky ) I have no idea as to why either , maybe it was released only for a short period as it seems to be the same with Anthology . If you cant find it ANYWHERE for a price under 40 bucks then I would buy it but I would NEVER pay one of the idiots in the used section 200 for one game !
    • 200 4  Honestly , FF 4 wasnt that great . The poor graphics were such a turn-off it was hard to play . But the cut scenes were excellent . Chrono Trigger on the other hand , was so overwhelmingly good it alone gets the five stars . Great story , good assortment of characters , side quests so you can stray from the sometimes frustrating main plot , weapons and armor and their upgrades , using time travel to do all sorts of special things like powering up items , not to mention multiple endings and multiple ways to beat the game . All in all , it was a great game .
    • 201 4  Those two words happen to be : NOT BAD ! the extra cinema scenes in Chrono Trigger ( exclusively done by the legend himself , Akira Toriyama ! ) rock . It's a lot cheaper than finding CT for SNES ( usually sold used for close to $50 ) and you also get the rare FFII ( or IV ) . It's worth buying . Is it just me , or does it seem to be a bit easier than the SNES version ?
    • 203 4  I don't get why these remakes aren't perfect.Final fantasy IV suffers some major slowdown when you use menus in combat , and the load times before battles and switching to the sub screen in chrono trigger are absurd. That said , these are still very playable versions of two of the most important games in RPG history , and taken as such are worth buying. All the old timers will get to relive their super nes glory days while all the kids who cut their teeth on final fantasy VII might actually learn something about the genre's roots.Aside from some nice new FMV and a decidedly better translation on FFIV , though , don't expect a lot of improvements .
    • 204 4  As a video game veteran , FFIV and Chrono Trigger were breakthroughs in their time . The first time I played FFIV , then known as FFII , I was blown away by the dancers , explosions , spells , battle systems , story / plot line , characters , and overall game play . The haunt of the Calcobrena tune still chills my spine to this day . . . I knew from that point on that the Final Fantasy series was going to be awesome and to this day I HAVE NOT been disappointed . FFVII was the sole reason I bought Playstation . As for Chrono Trigger , I was one of the few people on the side of the game play , since Non-linear RPGs were not highly accepted . I grew fond of Marle , Lucca , Schala , Magus , Frog , Robo , and Ayala . . . I'm not big on Crono himself something about the Silent Protagonist types . I thought the Double and Triple tech skills were very innovative , and the New Game + was a great added feature . ( nothing like whooping level one bosses with Luminaire and rainbow shell items : P ) So far Square Soft has only disappointed me once , with Saga Frontier , but I am sure this game will be great ! !
    • 205 4  Unless you live under a rock , you probably know that getting your hands on a CT or FF4 cart are slim to none , unless your looking foreward to shelling out mucho dinero . Your probably thinking , these games are outdated , and im too cheap to buy old games . . . when i can download them on my computer , well , think again . . . . This dynamo duo comes complete with some great new cutscenes , which by the way the CT ones kick seriously . They dont ruin the game one bit , the show you a re-created anime cut scene , followed by the original cut scene the SNES cart offered . On top of that , these are the 2 best RPG's ever made . Don't wait to buy this one , look what happend to all the other square RPG's , You can't lay your hands on one unless you bought it the week they released . Buy the package , and maybe even the guide . . . : ) Happy Gaming .
    • 206 4  The loading time in this game is ridiculous ! unless you are obsessed with the chrono / final fantasy series Like I am , dont buy it . I busted out my friends SNES and played CT on that and the battles are so much faster loading then the psx version ( and im playin it on my ps2 ) . Just because its a CD based game doesnt mean there should be loading for a 16bit game !
    • 207 4  I Bought this for Chrono Trigger alone . FF4 is not all that great , but worth playing . Chrono Trigger is a freakin ' awesome game . There is only a little loading problems when it loads the menu , or loads a battle , but not as bad as FF Anthology . Chrono Trigger also has a hell of alot of extras - you can only unlock Certain extras by getting certain endings = REPLAY VALUE + ! The Cinemas are cool , but at only 30 FPS , its a little choppy . All in All - A RPG Gamers Dream Game !
    • 208 4  First , Final Fantasy 4 is the cornerstone for all of the Final Fantasy's after it . This was my first RPG on Super Nintendo , and I still have it . The story was involving the first time around , but the new translation makes this game all the more desirable . Chrono Trigger was also on the SNES , no new translation but the added cut scenes keeps CT as my all time favorite RPG . This Collection is a must have , even if you still have them on Super Nintendo !

  • Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Since this is a compilation game that consists of two games I'll review them separately .
    • 012 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV are reviewed and re-reviewed several times over . Both games are exceptionally story rich , with enjoyable character interactions and interesting plot lines . The graphics are what you would expect from the time , and don't detract from the game play or enjoyment at all . However , I think it's important to note some of the issues in porting this cartridge game over to a Playstation disk . Cartridges , like the original one designed for the SNES have very fast data reads . This keeps the pacing of the game brisk and enjoyable . Unfortunately , when porting this game to a playstation disc , they did not take into account the amount of time it takes to seek data off a CD . As a result , the game has a series of small 10 to 15 second delays between various screens , interactions , and other events . This becomes a bit tedious , especially in the early game , when much of the game is developing the story stage . The game is still quite playable and enjoyable , but it does detract from the overall gaming experience .

    • 017 4  If you ever played Final Fantasy IV ( II in US ) you would know tht it is a great game . I think it is better than all the others with VII and IX close behind . The replay value is excellent because I have gone through it at least five times . It does not have the side games like the newer games but has a good story line , great music , and interesting characters . The one draw back is that is does not have the regular final fantasy graphics on playstation , it has early 90 ' s graphics . A bonus is Chrono Trigger which is a great game also . It is similar but very different than Final Fantasy and Chrono Cross is not like Chrono Trigger . If you are a RPG fan , then you played both of these games . If you like Zelda , Fina Fantasy VII or IX , Mario RPG , or even Pokemon then you will like these games .
    • 033 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Chrono Trigger is a great game I remember playing a long time ago . I was afraid to buy it for my PS3 slim ( purchased December 2009 ) because I heard that some square enix games wouldn't work properly on PS3 . I'm about 3 / 4 through the game , and it has been working fine . As others have stated , the PS1 style load times are somewhat annoying . Otherwise it would be 5 stars .

    • 036 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Even though that most people will overlook this game because it's a PlayStation game that's a re-release of a 16 - bit game during a time when we've already moved on to the 128 - bit generation , if you're an RPG fan that has yet to play either of these classics , it's a must-have title . With the multiple endings and fantastical game design and lovable characters , Chrono Trigger alone is worth the full price of admission . Add in Final Fantasy IV and you have an astonishing deal that you simply shouldn't pass up . Jody Bissoon

    • 042 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) This is a 2 game disc for the sony playstation , also plays in the sony playstation 2 . Both games are fun and remind me of when I was young and used to play them on the SNES ( super nintendo entertainment system ) I would suggest this game for anyone that is into RPG's . This game is good for all ages , so there is no need for parents to worry about the content their children are getting into .
    • 050 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) If your like me and you are tired of the shallow games with little play time and a story line thinner than deli meat pick this up . Both games have a rich story line and excellent game play . Enjoy .

    • 057 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) These 2 games are 2 of the best Role Playing Games that have ever been made . Chrono Trigger is easily one of the best games that the Super Nintendo ever had . Final Fantasy IV is also a title that should be highly regarded . Quit reading this review and go play !

    • 059 4  Yeah ! ! ! ! ! ! ! I had these games when i was young and loved them . Chrono Trigger has an incredibly deep plot and fun gameplay . Final Fantasy IV is much the same . get this game
    • 061 4  I loved this collection , because I loved both of these games . These were two of my favorite RPGs that I had for the super Nintedo . The port to the playstation was done really well , I only have to complains : - The menu load time for Chrono Trigger is slightly slower than I would like . This is barely noticable , but when you have to access then menu a lot , you pick up on it . - Saving a game for Final Fantasy IV is VERY slow , and it gets annoying . However the PS version lets you quick save the game , which saves it to the Playstation's memory very fast , and then you just write it once to the memory card before you shut the power off . But , neither of these two issues detracts from the games , and I would highly recomend this to people who used to have these on super Nintendo . However , I would not recomend this to people who never played the games on SNES , unless they are a big Final Fantasy fan . The games use the original graphics , so it is not designed for people who are not fans of the series .
    • 062 4  When I saw that Final Fantasy IV was two-player , I immediately bought it because I have two brothers who want to play together with me . The game is fun but two-player mode is not fun , gets confusing sometimes , and player two does practically nothing . Besides tow-player mode , Final Fantasy IV is a good game . Chrono Trigger , as many know , is a good game as well but is not two-player .
    • 064 4  Graphics No 3d graphics ? No problem ! I can remember when I was 7 and the nintendo was a big thing ! Back then , graphics were not a big deal ! Gameplay Amazing . It keeps you coming back for more ALWAYS ! Value 2 games in 1 package ( drools ) ! A great value for die-hard rpg gamers like myself . Overall Buy it . It's so great that you dont need to think twice . 5 stars all the way baby !
    • 068 4  Final Fastasy Chronicles comes with Final Fantasy 4 and Chrono Trigger . But The Chrono Trigger game alone is worth the purchase . I loved the snes version But this is even better with the new FMV sequences and lots of other new features Only downside to this is the slower loading times between scenes . But this is to be expected when a cartridge game is ported to cd . If you liked the snes version this a must buy ! If you like RPGs try it !
    • 072 4  This game is a strange mixture in that it combines what I found to be a bad game and a great game on one disc . I would like to mention now that I originally played both of these games on the Super Nintendo - - when they were new , and am not some thirteen-year-old weaned on the Dreamcast . First , the good . Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest games ever made , and you will not regret playing it . The battle system is intuitive , the plot works , and the characters are complex ( although not Final Fantasy complex ) . With about 15 different endings and the contributions of Nobuo Uematsu ( one of the greatest composers ever to come out of Japan ) , Akira ( world-renowned animator ) , and many others , the game is a masterpiece . Unfortunately , I have to take this opportunity to dump on Final Fantasy IV . Having played every single Final Fantasy game ( yes , including Mystic Quest ) , I can say that this is the pits . The plot is horrible . Every two dungeons or so , you discover that the villain that you've been chasing is only a subordinate , or a flunky , or has been hypnotized , and guess what ? There's a new arch-villain . Plus about fifteen characters form your party kill themselves and magically come back from the dead fifteen minutes later . This includes a guy who was inside a nuclear reactor when it exploded , a guy who flung himself down a mine shaft with C4 strapped to his stomach , characters who turned themselves into stone with magic so strong that NOBODY could revive them for at least half an hour , and of course the character who was eaten by monsters , drowned , flung into the nether reaches of Hell , discovered by the King of Monsters , and zombified ( or at least , gaining dark powers , possibly in exchange for a soul ) . However , I won't complain about the graphics , because they were the best that developers could do at the time . Speaking as a programmer , anybody who cries about graphics should be raked over a hot fire . But , Chrono Trigger still adds enough balance to warrant five stars - - and if you check , the Super Nintendo version sells USED . Enjoy !
    • 076 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Both Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger are excellent games ( CT could be my favorite game of all time ) .

    • 095 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy IV Hardtype ( which this version of Final Fantasy IV is based off of ) was known as one of the most difficult Final Fantasies . . . and this remake doesn't disappoint either ! For better or worse , it's also pretty difficult ! Chrono Trigger is much easier by comparison , and definitely a LOT more fun ! Both versions are faithful to the originals too , which both the nostalgic gaming crowd AND younger , curious gamers like myself will appreciate . Definitely worth getting . . . even if you only plan to play Chrono Trigger .

    • 118 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) Since this is a compilation game that consists of two games I'll review them separately .
    • 120 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) This is one of the best games I have ever played . Anyone who is sceptical just needs to pick a controller and go . You won't be dissappointed .
    • 123 4  The answer is Yesss ! These are two of the best RPGs ever made . Final Fantasy IV has a great story ( even though it still is dealing with the crystals ) and has some of the most memorable scenes in gaming ever ( like the trip to the moon ) . The gameplay is solid , and the added cinemas are decent . This game may be to difficult , even for master rpg gamers , but the feeling you get after beating it is enhanced because of the difficulty . Chrono Trigger is one of the hardest to find , and best Super Nintendo games made and aren't we lucky that it is easier to find now ? The answer to that is of course yes ! Chrono Trigger is one of those games that I could be playing 20 years from now . The story is great , the fighting system is great , there aren't that many battles you can't avoid ( thank God ) , and the anime cinemas by the creator of Dragon Ball , and Dragon Ball Z added to this version are awesome . Plus , being able to travel through time just kicks . . . !
    • 124 4  Chrono Trigger is one of my alltime favorite games , and having it on Playstation is heaven to me . The extras added in , like the FMVs and the unlockables you get after getting each ending are a pleasant bonus to an already solid game . Final Fantasy 4 is also a great game . I haven't finished it quite yet , so I can't really review it very well . All I can say is that quite a few new skills have been added , especially to that useless bard , and the graphic are smoother . Yep , a great game to add to your Final Fantasy collection , especially if you are old enough to have played these when they first came out .
    • 131 4  Great game ! I hate Final Fantasy 4 , but Chrono Trigger is my all time favorite game ! ! My favorite thing is the new movies and the new game + ( you get to play the game at the same strenght from the last ) . To be fare i played Final Fantasy 4 and beat it . If you are a big final fantasy fan ( Like me ) don't buy it for 4 . You would just wast your time . If you are buying it for Chrono Trigger ( Like I did ) you can not get a better game . _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ If you like this game I also suggest Final Fantasy 7 , RPG maker , Chrono Cross ( That is the not as good sequel to Chrono Trigger ) and Legend Of Dragoon .
    • 132 4  For me to see something like this package on Playstation that was originally on a super nintendo , is more than a great deal . If you loved any of the Final Fantasies , then you will love Chrono Trigger . This package is a must have . i should know cuz i own it , to me Final Fantasy 4 is very addicting and fun to play and give you more of a challenge . when i played Final Fantasy 9 it was rather easy , but when i played this , i was like wow , this is challenging . its a great game and i would never give it up . and another great game to own is Final Fantasy Tactics . one of my other fav RPGs is Final Fantasy 7 , the first one i have ever played .
    • 133 4  It was great going back to my gaming roots with Chronicles . These past few years , I whizzed through Final Fantasy VII , VIII , IX , Chrono Cross , Legend of Dragoon , Vagrant Story , and etc . Chronicles has challenged me once again . Forget about the graphics . Technology has spoiled you . Games aren't about graphics and sounds . Look past that . The real gem has always been the game play itself .
    • 134 4  Final Fantasy 2 and Chrono Trigger are two of my favorite games ever . To make it better , Chronociles adds cut scenes to bring more real life to the games .
    • 139 4  Chrono Trigger is awe-inspiring . Final Fantasy IV is great , but no attention was paid to it when they updated , It makes me angry . Still two great games in one . Buy it ! !
    • 141 4  What can I say that hasn't already been said by countless fans . I am 16 and have only been an RPG fan since I was 12 . I guess Final fantasy VII was the game that cought my eye and Parasite Eve was the first RPG I ever played . Then I got VII , and the rest is history . I've been hooked ever since . I live for the next fix of gaming goodness . Normally I buy the latest RPGs and don't really get into the older stuff . But after playing so many great games I had to go back to the roots . I needed to see why this whole craze started . I am not dissapointed . IV and Trigger are some of the best games I've ever played , and I havn't even finished them yet ! I've seen the price for the origional Chrono Trigger . $79.99 for a game ! That's around the price of a Dreamcast ! Chronicles is a great deal that you shouldn't pass up . My next fix ? Final Fantasy Anthology .
    • 144 4  Final FantasyIV - Final FantasyIV is definetly a great game . The story is not as complicated as those of Final FantasyVII , VIII , or IX . The graphics are also basic ( simple backgrounds and character design ) . The battle system is the same turnbased action enjoyed in all the final fantasies . With five members to a party battles are unique and fun . All and All Final Fantasy IV is a classic RPG title . Very enjoyable .
    • 148 4  Without a doubt , this combination of classic rpg games is a must have for any rpg lover out there . All though Final Fantasy 4 isn't exactly the best game there is , Chrono Trigger makes it the best . With all the playable characters , the in-games cinemas , and the great story-line , this game is one of the best there is .
    • 150 4  Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger are the two games I want to keep forever . I played them on the original Super Nintendo , and continued to play them time and time again . Final Fantasy IV has a compelling story filled with plot twists that will take you by surprise . Chrono Trigger ventured to tell a story never told in a console game before , and was quite successful . I can't recommend them enough , and Chrono Trigger has the best replay value with multiple endings and a New Game + feature .
    • 153 4  I really like Final Fantasy games. They are very fun to play and they are a challenge . Final Fantasy IV is my favoritte game . It is also a good buy because you get Chrono Trigger along with it . I hope my review encouraged you to try it out and have as much fun as I do playing this game .
    • 158 4  These games are really good . Final Fantasy Chronicles has Final Fantasy IV ( Final Fantasy II in America ) and Chrono Trigger . Final Fantasy IV has been re-done with 3D cinemas . Chrono Trigger is the psx ( Playstation ) version that was never released in America till now with Anime sceens drawn by Akira Toriyama ( The person who wrote Animes like Dragonball Z and DR . Slump ) . Both games are extremely good and if you want some old school rpg's then i highly suggest you buy this game .
    • 159 4  Okay . Well , neither of the games are actually about . . . , but there's some . . . in Chrono Trigger . Anyway , it's Chrono Trigger nuff said . But for you . . . out there who didn't p-lay it when it first cam out like me , It's a great game . Crono , the hero , goes back in time to save a girl . They are running from a bad guy and they get sent to the future . They find out that an evil ( though it's never actually stated that it's sentient ) space alien is going to destroy the planet . They then bounce back and forth through time to try and save the world . This is the game that got me started on RPGs . It is the greatest . Even better is the fact that there are all new anime sequences for parts of it , and the new arrangements for some of the music are better than before . A MUST have . Trust Yo . Belie dat .
    • 172 4  These were two great games , but final fantasy iv was too difficult , and my ps2 couldn't load chrono trigger . They're fun games , but save the receipt just in case .
    • 175 4  The first RPG game I ever played . I rented it from a video store every week and when they finally sold it , I was mad , then , Playstation comes out with it , and they have it with special animation sequences . Its awesome . I would really suggest buying this game , even if you have it on Super Nintendo . I bought it for Chrono Trigger , but Final Fantasy four is a pretty cool game , too .
    • 181 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Chronicles ( Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV ) ( Video Game ) I haven't actually played this product yet , as it is a Christmas gift .

    • 202 4  Ok heers the deal , this game is really great , it has truly stood the test of time . finla fanatsy 4 was a great game with a very invovling story , and chrono trigger my favorite of the two was just awsome . the music was truly awsome and the fight scenes never really got annoying , the cinematics were very well done in both games . though graphics were slightly better in chrono trigger they werent much to brag about but that did not hurt the game much . but ff4 ' s graphics could've killed the game without gameplay , sure they were great back in the day but now they show their age . nonetheless i advise either getting this game or at least trying it , even if you dont like rpg's at least try it . the two great games on this collection are truly wonderful and are a must rent / buy collection . but if you are only interested in flashy graphics and couldnt care less about gameplay , music or story , well you really outta re think your rating system .
