Final Fantasy Anthology

  • 048 4  Just to let anyone curious know , you will receive the Greatest Hits version with the green stripe down the left side , not the original that is shown in the picture for this item , although it should be obvious to anyone realizing how old this game is now . Still , it's a little deceptive .

    • 189 4  These 2 games are great if you like older rpg . I have the PS one games and my grandson has the Nindendo DS versions . The games have good stories and characters . The enemies are tough at times . It is your classic menu battle system and requires time to level up characters . Very enjoyable . Would highly recommend you try these is you like the older games . All the Final Fantasy series games are great , in my opinion , until you get to the PS 2 , when I feel they start to lose some of the enjoyment and quality .
      • 140 4  I was so excited when I got ff7 . It was called the greatest role playing game ever created.I found it fun , but small things were missing. After ff anthology , I think final fantasy 6 is the best. The story ? All I can say without spoiling it is it invules a young girl , magical beings from another world , and mog.And with ff5 tossed in , this is a great purchase .

    • Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy Anthology is , arguably , squares greatest role playing game release for the playstation yet . Final Fantasy Anthology features three discs . The first disc is Final Fantasy V , the second disc is Final Fantasy VI and the third is a collection of favorite tunes from both games . Both games contain epic plots , battles between good and evil , dragons , magic , insane evil , and other fantasy elements expressed at their best . Final Fantasy VI Many centuries have passed since the War of the Magi , in which god-like monsters with tremendous magical powers were used . Civilizations have been rebuilt with iron , machines , and technology . For years , the ancient Espers have existed only as lost lengends . Now an Esper has been discovered and the forces of magic are starting to return . The risk of another , more devastating war is about to surface . Enter Terra . Shrouded in mystery , Terra is a young 16 year old girl stricken with amnesia . Imprisoned by the malicous villian Kefka , Terra is forced to joined his evil cause . She is the only being on the planet able to use magic , a talent which she she was born with . While exploring a cave , she unearths a Esper , and it kills her comrades , who hold her captive , allowing her to escape . Assisted by Lock , A wandering Theif , Celes , A traitor to Kefka , and many more comrades , Terra must learn the secret that is her past , and prevent the destruction of the planet . The story and plot for this game is simply fantastic , and each character is engaging , with fascinating personalities . Each character has a interesting past , discovered and slowly revealed by clever plot twists . The story is , in my opinion , ingeniuis . Kefka wins my vote for best villian . Also impressive is the well written character dialouge . At times , it is extremely heart-rending and emotionanly charged ; I personally find it refreshing for an modern day role playing game that does not fail to deliver well developed characters and touching writing . It loved the depth of the characters . Many current Role-playing-games now adays tend to toss the character development in the dumpster . Even the newest final fantasy offering , Final Fantasy VIII suffers from shallow character personalities , but with final fantasy VI that is not the case . If this game has one flaw , it is its weak graphics . The look is extremly dated . Even the beautiful movies inserted into this game do not help much , as they lack the quality of some of the newer offerings , such as Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy VII , and are , for the most part , very brief . The gameplay is excellent though . Each character has special talents used for combat , ( Terra can turn into a Esper like being , Locke can pickpocket , Celes can absorb magic spells , etc ) . Characters can also equiqe Espers . The more battles you win , the stronger your esper becomes , and when it reaches a certain level , it will bestow a magic spell upon the bearer . It will also allow bearer to get bouneses to their attributes as they gain experence levels . When you combine rock-solid game play , involving characters , twistingly clever storyline , terrifying villians , and more , the result is Final Fantasy VI , a undeniable masterpiece that is , arguably , the greatest RPG of all time . Final Fantasy V The world thrived on the power of four particular crystals - Wind , Earth , Fire , and Water. With the power of Wind , people sailed ships . With the power of Fire , they began the industrial movement . With Water , people quenched their thirst , and from Earth , they received blessings . One day , the Tycoon King , upon feeling an irregularity in the air currents , rushed to the Wind Shrine , only to find the Wind Crystal shattering to pieces right before his eyes . In addition to this catastrophe , an enormous meteor had fallen to the ground , causing earthquakes in the surrounding land near Tycoon Castle . Unbeknownst to them , this event is about to bring four people fronm different walks of life together on a common journey . There is Faris , a pirate who felt the impending disaster of the Wind ; Galuf , a mysterious old soldier who has lost his memory due to the force of the fallen meteor ; Reina , a girl who has left Tycoon Castle in search of her father ; and Bartz , a wandering traveler . Why did the crystal shatter ? What hapend to the missing Tycoon King ? What meaning does the fallen meteor have ? The answers will start to unfold as this grand adventure filled filled with new encounters and many mysteries begins . . . . . . The first thing you will notice about Final Fantasy V is its rather dated look graphic-wise , a flaw that riddles Final Fantasy VI as well . for FF5 and FF6 time , however , the un-detailed sprite grahics by todays standards , but where considered decent when the game was released , and the monster design is somewhat decent , and tend to look pretty fierce . But unlike Final Fantasy VI , this game suffers from a rather weak plot . The plot lacks the clever twist and suttle magic of Final Fantasy VI , and one may begin to wonder why this final fantasy was never previously released on our shores . Maybe its sucess was uncertain ? Also unlike Final Fantasy VI is the mediocre character development . All the characters seemed genuinely shallow and lacked enough depth to keep me satisfied . The only main character with a fair amount of depth was Ferris , a pirate . However , what it loses in plot and character it makes up for with its solid gameplay . It's complexity is very high and it may puzzle and frusterate some and cause them to turn away , despite how good it could become . As soon as you pick up the first crystal shards , characters can select a certain such as a valent fighter , a spell-slinging magic user , a sly thief , etc . And as you battle the monsters and demons of this world , you collect more and more experence points . Eventually , you will be rewarded with new skills and powers related the class that you have chosen . While it may be a bore at first to level up your characters , as you learn more and more skills , the gameplay starts to enchant you as you attempt to level up your characters , and the gameplay then hits the borderlines of addictive . Final Fantasy V is not , by any means , a flawless experence . The graphics are lacking . The characters are shallow . But due to the gameplay , Final Fantasy V , is a RPG experence that is not to missed . Final fantasy VI : * * * * * ( five stars ) Final fantast V : * * * * ( four stars ) Music CD : * * * * * ( four stars ) Well , what are you waiting for ? I will give several reasons why you should buy it . 1 . Its cheap , price-wise . 2 . The music CD is incredible . Track 21 , Entitled prelude a.k.a the classic final fantasy theme , and the song Terra are some of the best video game songs I have every heard . The songs on the CD are melodic and beautifully composed . 3 . Final Fantasy VI is still the pinnacle of Role playing games . 4 . Final Fantasy V is much more entertaining than what many of the critics are saying . 5 . JUST BUY IT !
      • 001 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) This game is actually 2 games with a bonus music CD . Final Fantasy 5 was never released in the US , although some people reading this may have played an emulated version . It is a good game even without the graphical flare of Final Fantasy 6 . It has a job system and it basically follows classic Square RPG format . Final Fantasy 6 is a better game and it probably set the mark for all RPG's following it . It's graphics , although now outdated , are still colorful and good . The music is awesome , simply put . You'll be humming these tunes at work or school all day . Every character has his / her own special skill which is a nice addition . The Esper system is easy to use and magic can be learned by all characters . The one point this game falls short of its SNES relative is loading time . It's not a big change , but it is noticeable . . . . thats why only 4 stars . The new cut scenes pick up a little slack for the slow load time . The music CD is good but somewhat incomplete . There should have been more tracks on it . All things included , this was MUCH more satisfying than Final Fantasy 8 . Instead of releasing FF8 , Square should have released this and made 8 better . If you liked Final Fantasy for the SNES , get this !

      • 005 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) I wasn't going to buy this game at first , but nostalgia got the best of me . I'll start of with the bonuses . You get a CD of game music along with the games Final Fantasy V and VI . I was really disappointed with this though . The tracks chosen for the bonus CD are boring and repetitive . What , no tracks for the Kefka theme , final battle themes , etc ? A few were okay . Another thing I'd like to explain before I review the games is that Final Fantasy IV was included in the Japanese version of FF Anthology , but not ours . The FMV is amazing , especially for FFVI . It is less awe inspiring than FFVII but the style and design is less cold . The bonuses you get after beating FFVI ( lists of monsters , espers , stats ) are nice but anticlimactic . FFV This game was mediocre . The story is the weakest of all the final fantasies . Final Fantasy 8 has a much more interesting story than any installment , except possibly FF6 . Characters are pathetically paper thin . It's the same old whoever controls the crystals , controls the world story . The pirate character has the irritating habit of saying D'arrrrr before every sentence . The only saving grace is the challenge . FFVI This , I believe , is where the series really gets good . Squaresoft took the whole Star Wars Empire plot but it stays fresh and interesting . The main villain , Kefka , is actually funny ( and kind of fruity ) . It is a nice contrast to all the stereotypical Darth Vader type villains . If only Square had made this with current Playstation technology . The music is good but I disagree with all the FF freaks that think it is the best . The music is composed well but WAY too limited by the hardware . The loops are too small , thus making the music somewhat repetitive . I do agree that in newer installments the music is not medieval enough ( but I feel the same way about how the theme in general has moved ) . As for gameplay , I like it better than the job system of FF5 . I like how only one character can use certain special skills . I also like the emphasis at the end of the game on finding special items rather than so much boring level building .

      • 007 4  Final Fantasy VI , or 3 on the Super Nintendo , was the second console RPG I played . ( The first was Lagoon on the SNES , which was good . ) I still believe that FF6 is one of the best of the Final Fantasy series . It has excellent character development , a good story , and for the first time , a villain with a background and personality . Up until this point , most RPG villains were Mwa , ha ha , I'm Evil ! ! ! villains who were evil to have someone evil in the story . In FF6 , Emperor Ghestalt and Kefka are deeper than that . One realizes too late that his greed has doomed him , the other is insane because he was the subject of magical / medical experiments . I have played this game six times , more than any other RPG . Final Fantasy V was good . While I think FF6 was a little better , this is the first time FF5 was released in the US . It was interesting , and obviously the predecessor of the job system used in Final Fantasy Tactics . I think it was worth playing .
      • 008 4  As a veteran of the 16 - bit SNES days , I can recall countless hours spent playing Final Fantasy III and thinking that it was the best game ever to grace the SNES platform . Well , six years later , my opinion has not changed . Final Fantasy VI has been re-released , keeping intact the entire game as it was back then , with Final Fantasy V as a special bonus . People introduced to the FF series at part VII might not be able to get past the graphics , which were fine for them time but lousy by today's standards . But for the less cynical player , this is the holy grail of RPGs . This is proof that less is more , and the music in these games rivals anything that came later in the series . Having said that , the later installments in the series are great , but it is important not to forget where it all started . Final Fantasy V is a great game , it's big disadvantage being that it is packaged alongside part VI , so gamers will inevitably compare it to FFVI . It is a typical FF game , meaning that you are assured a great game at the least . The job skills add a nice twist , and the story , albeit linear , can hold it's own with the best of the RPGs . Final Fantasy VI , as you have read in countless reviews , is probably the most engaging and emotionally involved game in the series . The characters all have likeable personalities , and their individual stories are very enrossing . As the game progresses , the player becomes more involved in their lives . The story is the game's strongest point , while the music is a milestone for any video game . Anybody who dismisses it as just a game should take a closer look . Completing this game will become your life . The really good Squaresoft games have an anoying habit of falling out of print quickly , making this game in particular hard to find , let alone at a reasonable price . Anyone who still shops around for SNES games knows this , as well do the people who have tried to find the FF Anthology at their game shop , only to be met with Sorry , it's no longer available . This is really sad because there are many people who will not get to experience these games , and will go on thinking that the FF series never got better than part VII or IX . All I can say is that is you are lucky enough to find a copy , grab it , or else order it online . It is a gem that you will be proud to own .
      • 009 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy VI is the best Final Fantasy game of all time . And the Final Fantasy games are the best RPGs of all time . ( It makes you wonder how Square could slip so quickly into the poor FF7 ) . The graphics are old , but not bad . Both games suffer from terrible load times . Rumor has it that the reason the FF4 was not included in the US version is because the upsizing to Playstation was so bad that the game was practically unplayable . FFV and FFVI don't have the same action feel as newer games , and they don't have the addictive quality that newer games have . However , the story line and character development far surpass anything else every created . FF Anthology is a great game that I suggest anyone who likes RPGs pick up . One side note : I think the RPG fan base is split between those who like action , and those who like story and interactivity . The former group won't like this game as much as the latter . I only have a slight toleration for FF7 and FF Tactics . However , I love Crono Trigger , Saga Frontier , and the FF games before 7 . If you want characters and interactions that are so real you'd swear it's a novel with graphics , this is the game for you .

I only have a slight toleration for FF7 and FF Tactics . However , I love Crono Trigger , Saga Frontier , and the FF games before 7 . If you want characters and interactions that are so real you'd swear it's a novel with graphics , this is the game for you .
      • 011 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Let me first begin with saying this , if you started playing final fantasy at 7 or 8 ( mostly 8 ) you will probably not enjoy Final Fantasy Anthology . The game comes packed with Final Fantasy 5 and 6 ( and a music cd ) . Final Fantasy 5 was never released in the Us you could only get it on a rom form. But anyway the game is very simple , yet complicated at times. The game is mostly about saving the crystals of the worlds ( I won't go into detail you will have to find out for yourself : ) ) . Final Fantasy 6 is a story about a girl with the power of magic and the Empire is searching for her to help them control the world and have the best army . Well let me just break it down : FF5 : Pros : Good Gameplay Some good character dev Cons : Bad Graphics ( for some ) , Not a great story , Can get somewhat boring for some , Music isn't that great FF6 Pros : Great Story , Great Character del , THE BEST VILLIAN IN A VIDEO GAME ! Fun Gameplay , Great sounds ( like someones laugh : p ) , Cons : Graphics might be dated for some used to newer FF , Some people might get bored , So the bottom line is if you like the older ones GET THIS GAME NOW ! If you are new to ff still try this you might like it . Also both games have bad loading time .

      • 013 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy Anthology is , arguably , squares greatest role playing game release for the playstation yet . I will give several reason why you should buy it .

      • 015 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) FF6 is by far my favorite game ever made . no gaming experience has ever come close to matching the joy i felt while playing this game . I would surely trade in all the halos gears of war etc for this game . From the phenominal storyline , to the lovable cast of characters , this game is perfect . the only thing wrong is that since this game is now on cd it has load times now unlike its cartridge original . it is such a pity that FF 7 is getting so much more attention , which i feel is undeserved . FF6 is clearly much more superiour in pretty much every way , other than graphics ( only cause 7 came out on the ps instead of the snes ) . they made a movie off of 7 , made spin off games off of 7 , and are now talking about a FF7 - 2 kinda like they did with X - 2 . I don't think im the only one who would much rather have a continuation of 6 instead . 5 is also a great game , kind of a bland storyline and characters , but the job system is cool so it makes the gameplay worth the play . all in all this package is worth any cost just for number 6 .

      • 017 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) The Final Fantasy Anthology is the re-release of two classic Final Fantasy games , Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI ( III in America ) . Both games are graphically dated , meaning that they use the Super Famicon ( Super Nintendo ) graphics - pixelated sprites . . . all 16 bits . Although it may not contain the same amount of eye-candy as the newer RPG's out there , these two games are simply two of the best in the genre . While the plot to FFV is very cliched , it's not the plot that makes this game shine . This game ( not previously released in America ) is known for its ' Job System ' . This job system allows the player to customize their characters and let them learn new and different abilities , obviously allowing for different strategies for beating the game . FFVI is probably one of the best RPGs of all time , and certainly is much better than some of the newer game . This game revolutionized RPG's and set a new standard for how games in the genre should be made ( although rarely followed nowadays ) . The game's plot is great , and really gets deep at some points . The plot of the game focuses upon a new Empire , seeking the lost knowledge of magic . The game's characters are heavily focused upon , letting the player get to know each of them . Gameplay is outstanding . . . with the fact that each character has their own set ability . Magic is done with magic points , and can only be used by learing them from Espers . Both these games contain great music , and the anthology contains a soundtrack which ( is supposed to , but doesn't ) has both games greatest music sets . Although there is a slowdown on FFVI ( due to the fact that it's an emulation ) , it is nothing that can't be overlooked . Especially since this is one of the greatest RPG's . The only other problem with the anthology is that SquareSoft had not included Final Fantasy IV . Other than this , both games are great . . . even though they may not have as good graphics as other games .

      • 019 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) It's nice when companies re-release the old games with a new twist . I loved these games when they were out on the snes and I love them now . The added bonus is that they added beautiful CG in to the story . Also they put a really good feature that I've wanted to see for some time . . .2 - player combat . Instead of your buddy sitting and watching you play they can get involved and assist you in destroying your enemies . Hope you have fun with this one .

      • 021 4  The game might as well stayed unreleased . . . I don't agree with this at all ! I personally appreciate the effort of Square to give us this game - a game we otherwise would not have . FFA should be a game in your PSX library . 2 for 1 - can't beat that . I feel as though even new-school gamers who played FF7 first would find these games entertaining . Now as far as the comment in the editorial about FF5 , this game is the hardest in the series , next to the FF3 that Japan got ( for the original NES ) . The bosses are hard , and mastering the job system in this game takes a lot of effort . Try going through this game without dying on a few bosses and you can consider yourself an FF expert . My hat's off to Square for releasing these games to us hardcore gamers in North America . FF VI is arguably the best RPG in the 16 - bit genre , and FF V , technically being a new game to North America , make this an unbeatable package . Square must know this , because they're doing it again with Final Fantasy Chronicles ( FF IV and Chrono Trigger ) . Smart move if you ask me . Gamers like me will be first in line to get this compilation when it comes out . Meanwhile , if you see this somewhere and you don't own it , buy it ! You won't regret it .
      • 022 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Whoa ! This game rules . FFV and its addicting Job system are just awesome . FFVI and its story is just too cool . FFV can be complicated , but once you master it , it rocks . Who cares about the archaic graphics ? The games are too compelling for anybody to care . Definitly , definitly , pick this one up .

      • 024 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy Anthology is two great 16 - bit Final Fantasy games in one conveniently-priced package . First , there's Final Fantasy V , which , while not being one of the best in the series , is nice to finally have in the US . Also , there's Final Fantasy VI ( SNES players might know it better as Final Fantasy III ) , which sells individually at the used game store I bought this at for a much higher price ( . . . ) That , and the fact that it is among the very best in the series . The music in both games is excellent , and each one's battle theme has that familiar bassline at the beginning . The visuals are very dated , but the new CG cinemas are gorgeous . Number V has perhaps the most unique feature of any FF game : the job system . True , this was made popular in the US first with Final Fantasy Tactics , but it was still quite unique . My recommendation is leveling up one job to the max with one character , then trying another . The bottom line : I can't help but recommend this game for the classic gameplay and the familiar 16 - bit Final Fantasy feel captured perfectly on the Playstation . The CG cinemas , which are more like the Amano art than the normal CG art in other FF games , are gorgeous , but there are only two in each game : one that plays before the title screen ( and can be skipped anytime ) , and one at the end . Overall , I highly recommend this game , and that being said , go to your local used / rare game store and check it out !

      • 026 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) I wish there was more re-releasing old , classic games for new systems . I suppose some might see it as the companies just trying to squeeze more money from old games , but I love being able to play these games on new systems , and the addition of new features is always fun to experience . As far as collections go , this is a very good one . Final Fantasy 6 , originally 3 , is a classic game , and considered by some to be the best FF ever . I can't say I think it's the best , but it is definitely an exceptional game that was even more remarkable when it was first released . It does already seem dated in many ways . At the same time , this is the final game in the series where you can experience the classic , 2D FF that many fans of the series have grown up with . This game does have an excellent cast of characters , and one of the better storylines in the series . The espers , the first real summon monsters , are really cool , and theres somewhere around 30 of them , much more than any other game , which I like . Each character has unique abilities and weapons , which makes for great variety . A very fun old school RPG . The graphics were amazing at the time , but already seem pretty dated . The sound as well . The music that was written for the game is some of Uematso's best , but the sound capabilities of the SNES are just too dated . If they improved anything , I wish they would have improved sound quality a bit . Also , the CG scenes they added were disappointing to me . They weren't that badly done , but I thought that they would be peppered throughout the game at the appropriate spots , which they weren't . They were only at the beginning and end , which I find disappointing . I guess they wanted the actual experience of playing the game to be identical to how it was on the SNES . I wouldn't have minded some small improvements , personally . Overall , they did a good job . FF 5 was a real surprise , and it was great to play a brand new old style FF , never before released in the US . Lots of the reviews on Amazon say that it is really a sub-par game . I have to say I strongly disagree . . . I think its a great FF game . If you enjoyed FF 4 and 6 , I think you'll definitely like 5 . The graphics and sound are similar to FF 4 . The gameplay is what makes the game so good though . You can switch your characters between the variety of job classes like in FF Tactics or FF X - 2 , and learn a large variety of different skills , then mix and match them . It's a very primitive form of the job class system , sure , but it's still really cool , considering the age of the game . I also really enjoyed the story of the game . . . it was about as good as FF 4 . Theres a part where you're navigating through a graveyard of pirate ships infested with ghosts and zombies that is totally classic . I would definitely recommend giving FF 5 a chance . It is old and outdated , but definitely lives up to the quality of the FF series . Now , a quick word about the music disc . . . it's pathetic . An absolute waste of time . If anyone could actually listen to that disc and get into the music on it , I'd say you have serious issues . It's tinny SNES sound , taken directly from the games . I can't imagine it would have been too much work to throw some real orchestrated versions ( they are available in Japan ) of the songs on here . . . that would have been great . Furthermore , they chose a bunch of the worst songs to include on the disc and left out many of the best . Terrible . But , you won't be buying this collection for the music disc . The games are what matters , and they are quality , faithful ports of the originals . Highly recommended for people who want to walk down memory lane with some great old games .

      • 028 4  I wish there was more re-releasing old , classic games for new systems . • 029 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) All you ever here about today is graphics . And don't peg me as one of those old farts who want to go back to the old day of pixel animation , and 16 bit systems , because believe me i love 3d . But i DO believe that graphics have begun to overshadow gameplay , and in some cases fun . With my recent major disapointment in FF8 i was all-but ready to wash my hands of square . But then i got FFA and popped into my PS , and wow . I had forgotten how fun this actually was . I love the characters , who could have come from any well written novel , the story line , a classic take on the starwar's plot . Not only that but i think the music was some of the best i've ever heard , espeacily the opera ( teehee ) . And the battle sytem was defianatly square's peak . The magicite was brilliant , making each esper worth collecting for their spells ( like pokemon , but not annoying ) . This one also has a very nice variety of weapons , one character can use more than one type of weapon and armor , making most weapons interchangable . Also the there are neat things called relics that modify your status , and a whole slew of other great things , including CG cutscenes , a secrets menu , great boss design , and even nice graphics ( yes even by today's standards they aren't bad ) . Oh eyah and i think that FF5 is in there ( i've yet to play is so i can't comment ) . Any way , get this game . . . .

      • 031 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) What could be better than having one of the greatest games of all time for on the playstation ? Having two of the greatest games of all time on your playstation . I remember back in the SNES ' heyday when I played FFIII non-stop . I still believe that it is one of the best , if not the best game ever . Unfortunately the folks at Square never saw fit to release FFV here in the States . Now , with Anthology , its here and I am loving every minute of it . A great two games and a great gaming experience .

      • 033 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Yes , you could buy this collection of FF 5 and 6 , or you could buy the gameboy advance versions . I owned this for ps1 and the load times going fromt the overworld to the status menu put me to sleep . I really do like these two games , but they play so much better on the GBA than the PS1 . Unless you can't find a gba , gba sp , gb micro , or even a gb player addon for a gamecube , then i'd say buy this . If there's one thing i can't stand , it's a good cartridge game being ported to a system that makes the experience dull and boring .

      • 035 4  You can't go wrong here . Final Fantasy 6 ( released as 3 on the SNES in the US ) is hands down the best in the series . Play through the story of Terra , now with FMV cutscenes . This is worth playing even if you played the original , just for the FMV sequences . Then you get Final Fantasy V , long hailed as the best game the US market missed out on . This is truly a great re-release .
      • 036 4  . . . To be honest the games don't have fancy graphics but they both have a great storyline . These are two classics that should not be missed by any RPG fan . FF VI has outstanding music and FF V is interesting because it's never been released in the U.S . before , also FF V is the theme of the Final Fantasy Anime which you can also purchase on Amazon.com . . . Oh yea , anyone of these games is better than Final Fantasy 8 ; )
      • 037 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy Anthology includes the games Final Fantasy VI , ( originally Final Fantasy III in the U.S . ) one of the best Final Fantasy games ever , Final Fantasy V , ( never before released outside of Japan ) is the best overall Final Fantasy game , and a bonus music CD , which allthough good doesn't have the best songs from either game . Other than the CD this collection deffinately deserves five stars . In Final Fantasy V the crystals of earth are being mysteriously destroyed . In Final Fantasy VI the evil emperor is trying to revive the dread force magic .

      • 039 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) I find Final Fantasy Anthology one of the best RPG's that could ever be released . Final Fantasy V lacks the character development but it really gets me into it with the job system . Final Fantasy VI has one of the greatest story lines in any game I've ever seen , and with 14 characters yours always going to try to spend time with all your characters to progress with the story and just to have 14 very strong characters . I like the esper system much more than just buying magic , this game puts your strategic skills to the test .

      • 041 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Ahhh , the good old days where eye-candy wasn't the driving force of RPG and * story * propelled games . Sadly , in retrospect , FF5 seems to get pounded away and lost in the competition it recieves not only from FF 7 8 , but it's companion FF6 as well . The characters and story in FF5 become as non-exsitant as in FF Tactics , and lacking the battle system FFT had , FF5 fades quickly . The anthology becomes well worth it's price with FF6 though . Characters , story , and dialouge mixed in with enjoyable mini-events keep the attention and intrigue of the player . The music CD is a touch lacking ( Celes ' theme is missing ! What a travesty ! ) but sufficent enough to keep most happy . FF6 alone would be enough to justify buying this , with the bounses of the music CD and the old-fashioned Tactics , this is indeed a good purchase .

      • 043 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) There's no doubt in most people's minds that FFVI is one of , if not THE best RPG ever made . Definitely the high point of the FF series . This package features FF6 and the previously unreleased FF5 . FF5 is interesting , seeing as it was never released in the US . Interesting , but doesn't live up to FF6 . I enjoyed it , though the story was fairly weak . The class system was an excellent system , and the challenge was fairly high , at least , unlike FF7 , which gets my vote for goat of the FF series . My major gripe , however , is the omission of FF4 in the US version of Anthology . In Japan , this game was included , but when released here in the US , Square decided to give the proverbial shaft to US gamers . Instead of including the RPG classic , FF4 , that was on the Japanese version , they included a worthless music CD . First of all , who the heck wants to listen to video game music when not playing a video game ? And , second of all , most of the selections on the CD are junk . No Kefka theme or world map music or anything worth anyone's time . Oh Joy ! The FFV theme music ! My foot ! The games on FFA deserve 5 stars , but I can't bring myself to give higher than 4 , due to not having FF4 , and the worthlessness of the music CD , which I broke in half and burned in a New Year's Eve bon-fire . It just seems that Square is slighting us . The response received after my letter of complaint to Squaresoft about no FF4 said that they thought there was not enough interest in the States for it , so they gave us the music CD to try to make up for it . What a load of BS . I'm interested in FFIV . All the RPG players I know are ripped that it wasn't released . And if the rest of the RPGer population feels the way we do , there definitely WAS and IS an interest in FFIV .

      • 045 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) My first rpg was FF7 . It was a great game , and I went along and tried out FF8 and FFA . Final Fantasy Anthology ( FF5 and FF6 ) are really good games that should be played by anyone that is hooked on rpgs ( like I was with FF7 ) . FF6 ' s characters were unique , and anyone would probably enjoy using Sabin because his Blitz attacks require directional motions and button taps like a fighting game ! FF5 and FF6 also have great music , too ! Overall , I'd recommend FFAnthology to any rpg fan that prefers gameplay and storyline over graphics , because the graphics are 16 - bit SNES type .

      • 047 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Just to let anyone curious know , you will receive the Greatest Hits version with the green stripe down the left side , not the original that is shown in the picture for this item , although it should be obvious to anyone realizing how old this game is now . Still , it's a little deceptive .
      • 049 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy III is a great game . I'm glad it has been re-released on the PSX , It never really had enough of an impact when it first came out to get Final Fantasy going in the US , only after FFVII did that happen . All of those who missed out should pick this title up , although it does have 16 - bit graphics , it is quite possibly the best game ever made . I am dissappointed that Square did not port Final Fantasy IV to the Playstation as well , because that is my second favorite game , and i would have liked to have seen Cecil , Kain , FuSoYa and the others on the Playstation console . FF5 is officially translated for the first time under this title . It's not as strong a release as IV , VI , VII or VIII were , which is why it wasn't translated at first . I'd like to see Final Fantasy I , II , and III for nintendo be re-released , but they are so small and many would consider them bad games that Square probably would not undertake such a project . However , Final Fantasy I is the title that saved Square . If you really want it , check out FuncoLand . They also have FFIV ( Final Fantasy II ) on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System .

      • 051 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy VI ( which was III in the U.S . ) is honestly one of the best games I have ever played . If you like role-playing games , even a little , then this is the game to get . Final Fantasy V is okay , but VI makes it worth the price of this game . The story line , the characters , just the whole atmosphere of the game , you truly feel as if your in another world , in another time . This game holds a special place in my heart , truly one of the best rpg's , if not the best rpg , of all time .

      • 053 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) My first true RPG was Final Fantasy III for the SNES , and now you can play it on playstation with great cg animation and a secrets file . I am disappointed they retitled it Final Fantasy VI . The title screen looks unusual with thoose roman numerals . Final Fantasy V is fun and the job classes are interesting , you will even fight some familiar bosses . If you are a Squaresoft enthusiast you will love this anthology . The world is square !

      • 055 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) After the disappointment of FF8 , these games englulf the RPG gamer in pure nostalgic bliss . FFV is an interesting propostion in that it combines the Job System ( which was later incorporated into Final Fantasy Tactics ) with the traditional RPG system of plot and character development . The plot of FFV is admittedly hackneyed , but the endless customization possible in battle and the unusually high level of difficulty makes it a true classic . Anyone who has ever played FFVI knows that not much really needs to be said about it-it is simply a masterpiece . The gameplay is enriched by the availability of a multitiude of unique characters , yet the character development is still expertly conducted amongst the large cast . the music is unbelievable-some of the most moving themes i have ever heard , period . The only flaw in the game is that it is a relatively simple task to build your characters up to the point where even the final bosses don't even present a challenge . Regardless , FFVI will be remembered as one of the greatest games of all time and the inclusion of FFV makes Final Fantasy Anthology a must purchase for Playstation owners !

      • 057 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Almost all of these reviews are dead on . FFIII ( FFVI ) is STILL the best Final Fantasy of all that has been released to date . I've kept my SNES only because of this game but now I can get rid of it cause it's finally here re-released for the Playstation ! Graphics shmaphics who cares ! What defines and places this game above the rest is it's deep epic storyline and character development . FFIII involves the game player to become totally absorbed into this world where each character has their own secrets and hidden agendas which during the quest , you slowly unravel . None of the other final fantasies come close with this respect and if you think for a second that you've played the best with FFVII and FFVIII due to the advanced FMV sequences and graphics , boy are you WRONG and missing out . The recent FFs have focused too much on graphics and gameplay technology where storyline / character development and integration of a memorable musical score has been left secondary . Clearly , FFIII ( VI ) is still more enjoyable to play than VII or VIII simply because you become more involved with the game emotionally . The musical score in FFIII ( VI ) is much more memorable and integrated into the storyline where a separate score is given for each character and town further defining each . I don't even remember the musical scores from VII and VIII because they weren't integrated well with the plot or characters and could've cared less . The bottom line is don't think that you've played the latest and the greatest with FFVII and FFVIII cause you haven't . Buy this Anthology to play Squaresoft's first masterpiece FFIII ( VI ) that defined and raised the bar for the whole video game RPG industry and you'll realize what you've missed . In fact , by looking at the reviews of this game , others would agree that the bar still has not been surpassed . After playing III ( VI ) you will wonder why Squaresoft hasn't been able to produce a final fantasy as enjoyable to play in recent years .

      • 059 4  I had always wondered about replaying this game even a few years after I had sold it . That I read that they were coming out with a FF anothology that would have FF6 ( originally FF3 ) on it and I was in awe . I knew how to spend my store credit after that . FF3 / FF6 is what got me into the FF series to begin with , though I had plyed some of the Phantasy Star games proir to that ( which are good as well but this is no PS review so I will not trail off from the subject ) . I first played FF3 in the summer and fall of 1995 when I was 12 , almost 13 . Nothing about the game let me down . The battles , graphics , colors , story , characters and music score made me almost possesed by this game . So , hearing about its revival on the PS with some new Cinematic features in the Fall of 1999 only got me interested in it again after years away from it . So what if the graphics are not up to the PS standards . The original sound and graphics give to the the nostalgia value and make you feel like you travelled back in time to the game's original release era . The colors are still lush and worth looking at as they are variied but never clash or look pasty next to each other . The enemies in the fight scenes look good and are quite detailed with their textures . The way the backdrop switches colors when you cast powerful spells is another thing that makes the colors all the more vivid . There are lots of bright color but there are good shares of dull colors as well to make a nice contrast . The music is some of the best for a video game . My favorite tunes are the boss fights ( you first hear it when fighting the whelk ) , the overworld in the first half as well as the second half ( after you aquire the falcon airship ) , and the ending battles at the end of the game . These last song are classically inspred bits that will make you want to grab a keyboard and start playing your own pieces . Even when I got into melodic death metal and syomphonic black metal about a month after buying this game ( see some of my other reviews if you do not know about these underground genres ) the score to this game still did much for me . If you like this game's music you should check out these metal subgenres . The story and characters are another thing to aknowledge . The plot is held in a world that is recovering from an apocalyptic war and is rediscovering some of the technology that was lost in the chaos , while a greedy empire is trying to conquer the world and is risking yet another same type of war to occour . While there really is no main character like there is in some later FF games , the story does focus much around Terra , the young woman who is powerful but unsure of her existance in the human world . I do wish that the beast-boy Gau had abit mmore prominace in the story and some character development . His unfamiliarity with civilzation and his fragmented speech made him a humorous favorite . RPG's have always had females as important characters , and while this game only has three , they are still vital to the story ( at least the older two are . Young Relm becomes little more than an accesory at times ) . Having strong women in gae stories who are imprortant to the plot is always a good thing . And the insane Kefka whose goofy looks don't water down his cruelty is one guy you will want to beat ASAP . The way he kills his own Emperor right before tearing the world's land masses apart shows that he will not stop at anything . I have not bothered to play FF5 yet a I have not really had a reaon to . My brother tried it out and said it was sort of a waste of time . Still , FF6 is what makes this package so great . The epic storyline , good score , killer graphics and colors , and characters makes this something that any one remotely into RPG's will enjoy . You might like it even if you do not lik RPG's per se . I myself also have a liking for shooters ( Doom , Quake ) and action games ( Syphon Filter , Resident Evil , GTA ) . I do wish FF6 had a bit more of the modern stuff in it ( firearms , vehicles , huge cities ) and combined it with the ancient stuff . FF7 is what perfectly mended technology with mythology , and the Phantasy Star games do this quite easily as well . But this does not bring down the game in any way for me . Having played FF7 and FF9 as well as this , I must say that I have gone back to play this more often that the others . It is always good to have old games released on updated formats . I have heard that some of the Phantasy Star games are going to be re-released as well . Than there will be the ultamate RPG collection .
      • 060 4  This is definately a must buy for people who enjoyed Final Fantasy II and III on the SNES . Final Fantasy Anthology includes both Final Fantasy V ( never before released in the USA ) and Final Fantasy VI ( III on the SNES ) as well as a music cd that includes music selections from both of the games . Fnial Fantasy V contains the complex job system that enables you to create characters of different classes such as Thief , Black Mage , White Mage , and others ( all of the classes on Final Fantasy Tactics are included , along with a few others unique to this game ) . The graphics are outdated , but the challenge of the game moer than makes up for the outdated graphics , and the replay value is high as well ( you can start over , and make completely different customized characters to beat the game with again ) . Final Fantasy VI has got to be the best in the series when it comes to characters , catchy music , and storyline . The characters are all different and have their own personalities that make the game very unique . The characters are developed very well , and you find yourself caring about their feelings , and what happens to them . Beat the game , and then listen to the soundtrack , and I can gurantee that you will remember exactley where you were in the game when you first heard the songs . The storyline is very traditional ( good vs . bad no gray area ) , but it is a very well developed storyline with a few twists and turns , and to top it all off the bad guy in the game ( Kefka ) is the most evil and twisted villan in all of the Final Fantasy Series . Pros : Excellent games with new fully rendered cinemas that weren't included in the SNES versions . A collection of the two best RPG's of the mid 90 ' s era Cons : Load time ( the SNES plays the games a lot faster and smoother ) . Outdated Graphics ( you will learn to appreciate the game though ) . Overall : A great buy for any RPG fan or Final Fantasy Fan that is willing to put up with the outdated sound and graphics .
      • 061 4  They didnt have a FF6 page so ill review ff6 here : Hands down , no other game can compare to final fantasy 6 . it is by far the best rpg out there , for ANY system , and you will be hard pressed to find a better game period . Old school graphics ( i.e . hand drawn ) are by far better than even the best of the new computer generated stuff ( keep in mind that im 15 and saying this ) . The music in this game is incredible , its the best music I have ever heard in a video game , save MAYBE Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross . Ok , now here is where the game truly shines . The story , and gameplay . The immense scope of the story is staggering , it spans a cast of 13 characters that are all unique and contribute to the storyline . The characters all act believeably , and there are serious consequences for all the actions taken ( as in the reshaping of the world . . . ) . Certain scenes are unbeliveably powerful , such as Cyan watching his wife and son board the Phantom Train , and the decision of who will take the throne of Figaro . By the end of the game , you will feel that you know the characters , and care for them . Believe me , this almost never happens and is extremely rare , that a game was able to do this blew me away . And we haven't even talked about gameplay yet . Everything about combat is intuitive , and works extremely well . Square learned from their previous rpgs , and adjusted to create one of the best turn-based systems ever created . An ATB ( active time battle ) gauge can be displayed that lets you know exactly how much time you have left before you can act again , no guessing here . The use of magic is similar to FF7 and ( sort of ) FF9 , they both looked to this game as inspiration . When you recieve magicite ( a sort of magical essence ) you equip it , and at first you cannot learn the spells contained within . By fighting you gain magic points ( AP ) and once you gain enough ( enough to equal 100% , each esper multiplies the number of points you recieve by a certain amount ) , you permanetly learn the spell and do not have to wear the magicite anymore ( of which you can only wear one at a time ) . You can summon an Esper with the magicite at any time after you have equipped it . Whew ! At any rate the system works extremely well . In the end , let me say this . I have played a lot of games , a LOT / for almost every system ever released . No other game can touch this game . You simply WILL NOT be disappointed by this game , it is absoutely phenomenal . Very Highly Recommended
      • 062 4  Final Fantasy Anthology is perhaps one of the best games I have ever played . Its a remake of two of the best ( in my opinion ) Final Fantasys I have ever played . I have nothing against other Final Fantasys but six is by far my favorite . If you can ignore the graphics , and just play through the storyline , FF6 is very rich in storyline , as it revolves around every character in the game . In other Final Fantasys after 6 , I noticed the amount of story focusing mainly on the main characters . You will actually get the background on every character in six . Final Fantasy 6 opens the doors and possibilities of what a great RPG is all about . And Final Fantasy 5 , the game itself is its value of the price you paid for it . FF5 was never released here in the U.S . until Anthology was introduced , and it introduced the job system to us . It was real fun to get through , probably my second favorite Final Fantasy . It was a bit different than what I expected but it kept me entertained for hours , and that itself is very tough . I get bored real easy on boring one sided RPGs . Its tough not to ignore the graphics that the new Final Fantasys and future ones have , but if you really want a game , that actually has a lot of potential . This is your title , storylines are great and gameplay is excellent . Definitely worth looking at .
      • 063 4  This collection brings back two of great classic Final Fantasy's . All though we all would have liked to see FF4 in this collection , that will have to wait for the next collection . The reason why most people would want to buy this is for FF5 , which has only been available with emulation until this . FF5 , in my opinion , has the best battle system to date ! It introduces the full buffet of jobs for you to choose from and customize . It's fairly challenging and very fun . A must have for anyone who enjoyed the old-school RPGs .
      • 064 4  When I purchased FF : A , I knew that I was in for that old satisfying feeling again . I just knew that this compilation , which brought together two of the best games of the Final Fantasy Series , plus a bonus music audio disc , was going to be one of the best ideas Squaresoft ever had . Well , it's 6 months later , and I was right . Although many of the new Final Fantasy gamers will not like the old SNES 2D graphics , I felt that it brought back the original magic of the SNES games , plus the FMV Cutscenes , which added to the magestic feeling of these two games even more . Even after playing - and beating - both FFV and FFVI more than once , this two game compilation still left me with that magic that will never be cast again in a game feeling . This is a must buy for all fans of any type of RPG . Even my best friend , who DETESTS RPGs , was willing to try these games , and he enjoyed them , too !
      • 065 4  Amazing package , this even comes with the soundtrack to both games ! Some people complain about the graphics but why would you want to change a great product like this ? I think its great , we can finally get FFV ( unless you importeded it ) and the music in FFVI is Fantastic . Let me start with FFV , I like the job system because its easy to use and though there is a short amount of characters ( only 4 that permanently join you ) its still great , the story in FFV is real thought up . The ending is worth it ( this is playstation so it has 2 endings the SNES ending and the PSX ending ) . FFV doesn't have as great of music as FFVI or as great a story but if you want to see how FF7 and FF8 came around . This is just such a great game . Now what should I say for FF6 ? How about , its moving and has a great number of characters ( 14 total ) The music is quite possibly the best i've heard in a long time . Whats great is there isn't really a main character so you don't have to have in the same character all the time . It has probably as good a story as FF7 , though getting magic is frustrating because you have to battle so much to get new ones , its a stunning RPG and I think ( this is my personal opinion ) that this is the greatest Final Fantasy ever . As with most final fantasies battling gets kind of boring after while but its fun . Also some of the greatest character build up and actually can be considered to have 2 story lines ! Both of the endings are worth it as well ( once again the PSX and the SNES ending ) and now has the bonus where you can look at the Bestiary , your characters stats and much more . Great game , Great Package ! Overall FF5 Music - 7.5 Story - 10 Graphics - 9 gameplay - 9.5 FF6 Music - 10 Story - 10 Graphics - 9.5 gameplay - 10 Clearly both Final Fantasies let you in on some things carried over to FFVII and FFVIII but clearly there both great RPGs . Also Listen to the album , the music is great for both games .
      • 066 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy V and VI were both great games . Final Fantasy VI is one of the best games I have ever played . FF6 draws you into the game with it's storyline and memorable characters . It also has much of what other games don't have , such as issues on suicide , teen pregnancy , and other issues . Also the music to the game is very fun . I humm the music alot during freetime , school , and when I do other stuff . The characters each also have a different special skill , and there are many sidequests , and the game is sometimes very challenging . Final Fantasy V is also fun but not that exciting as FFVI . It has a different battle / system , using the JOB system , which is where you can change into different character classes , such as ninjas , blackwizards , bards and other classes . I've only played the beginning of the games so I can't say much about it but it was pretty fun . I definitely recommend that you play FFVI first because it's very fun . So start clicking and typing and buy this game !

      • 068 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy VI does not have stunning graphics , but that's the only area in which it lacks - and you have to remember , this game was released as you see it for the SNES many years ago . At the time , the graphics were far superior to other similar RPG's . They really don't make em like they used to . FFVI has some of the most catchiest music I've ever heard - and not just for a video game . Just in general . The story line draws you in to each character and makes you care about them . The fight engine is innovative and interactive . How I wish that Square had remade the whole game with today's graphics ! Even so , it is still one of my favorite RPG's to date . I definitely recommend it .

      • 070 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Squaresoft has never made a better move ( except with maybe making FF7 so cool ) . The music CD is kinda dumb but a neat extra . Final Fantasy VI ( 3 in America ) is a classic that never gets boring , Final Fantasy V is just as good . The only bad thing about this game is even though they back to the basics with the graphics it still has to load a little bit here and there . It just gets kinda annoying and with SNES graphics it's pretty pathetic . The new SGI's are really cool . Over all this is a must have for every RPG play no matter what .

      • 074 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Anyone who has played FFVI ( FFIII ) on the SNES knows that it is an awesome game . It has a great storyline and interesting characters . FFV is also a very good game . Seeming to be the inspiration for FF Tactics , you can change your 4 characters into over a dozen different classes including knights , ninjas and summoners . It even has a good storyline . The music cd isn't that great , but it's fun to listen to at least once .

      • 078 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Lately , i was wondering why am i'm not enjoying playing games as much as i did a few years ago . Final Fantasy anthology vs Final Fantasy 8 gave me the answer . Actual games are just flashy , unelaborate title ( there is some exceptions ) . FF6 ( 3 in US ) is with no doubt , THE best FFantasy ever . And its was on the Super Nintendo ! FF5 is a little outdated , but still more elaborate and fun than FF8 . I was a fan of FF since the 7th got out ( i quit since then ) , but this makes me very happy , and the only thing i can say to all fans of FF is : . . . . BUY IT . ( And you get the FF5 and 6 soundtrack . . isn't that super ! : ) ) ) Thanks ; )

      • 080 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fanstasy Anthology is probably the best Playstation game I ever played , the best Squaresoft game I ever played and one of the best RPG I played and have . Having played Final Fantasy 7 and 8 , the graphics for Final Fantasy Anthology is cheesy , but the story and gameplay is the best . It's a masterpiece and a great game for Playstation .

      • 082 4  I've adored FFVI since it was released as FF3 in North America . I also loved everything I heard about FFV , so I bought Anthology when I found it . I haven't regretted it for one minute . If you like true RPGs then you will love this set . FFV is amazing . You can probably find storyline summaries , so I'll just say that the graphics were state-of-the-art in their time , the storyline is great compared to some of the more modern Final Fantasies , the characters are cute ( although Faris ' pirate accent can get on your nerves ) , the music is fantastic , and the job system is the best ability system in any FF to date , IMHO . I ran into a problem on the Save screen on my PS2 , but I went into the menu and changed the Disc Speed ( I run a PS2 Slim , on PS2 original I believe it's under the PS1 driver menu ) which not only cuts the loading times by an amazing amount ( it's almost like you're playing it on a cartridge again ! ) but it also makes the save screen pop up normally more often for me . If you can't get it to appear normally , just remember that the three selections are Memo , Slot 1 and Slot 2 from top to bottom . Make sure your mem card is formatted so you don't get confused when you try to save and it doesn't . Then just go to the selection you want and press X , then X again ( or , if you want to use multiple save spots , you can press Down after you press X the first time , just make sure you're not overwriting any of your other save files that you might want to keep ! ) FFVI is one of the greatest RPGs ever , possibly even one of the best games ever . The characters are interchangeable and interact with each other in certain situations ( even giving you cut-scenes if you have certain people in your party together ) , the enemies ( well , Kefka , at least ) are almost believable , and you can't help but feel with the characters going through the storyline . The graphics were the best possible on the SNES / SuperFamicom console , and the music is perfect throughout . The CD included has a lot of nice music on it , although I would have loved to have heard the music from , for example , Celes ' opera . Even so , there are a few themes on here worth listening to , such as The Dungeon , Mambo de Chocobo , Phantom Train , Johnny C . Bad , and Epitaph . All in all , definitely a 5 Star set .
      • 083 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) This review is basically for FF VI . It was actually FF III when I first played it . Anyway , this game is awesome . Its what first got me into playing video games . The story is very good . There's a lot of different characters that you get to play with . It has 2 player option when your battling . The only real flaw is the graphics . But it came out a long time ago so you really can't expect it to be to mind blowing in the graphics department . Other then that , awesome game . I only played FF V for a little bit . It seemed to be pretty cool . Didn't set up the story for the game very well though . And there seemed to be some bugs in it as well . Or in my disc there was . I had to keep saving so when it did mess up I wouldn't have to start over . I never did play all the way through V though so not sure how good it actually is . . . . . The music disc sucks . . . . Unless your into jamming out to old school FF music . Good music for the game , not so much though for sitting around listening to it . . .

      • 085 4  Do not pay 80 dollars for this game . it will come out sometime in december for 20 dollars because square will rerelease it as a greatest hits game . final fantasy 5 ' s story kinda suks , but the job system beats FF7 ' s materia system or any other type in any final fantasy game i've played . haven't played all of ff 6 but it was pretty good . graphics not very good , except opening and closing CGI at opening and closing of each game . havent seen end of 6 but others were cool . FF chronicles , vagrant story and xenogears will also come out for 20
      • 086 4  If you like the classical Gameboy / SNES look , then Final Fantasy Anthology is for you . It is in 2 - D like the SNES game . Final Fantasy V and VI are both included in this pack , plus a small booklet and the Soundtrack . SquareSoft has added special 3 - D movies . This is a very good game , though it may bother those who are used to playing 3 - D games and not 2 - D .
      • 087 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy Anthology is a collection of two of the greatest RPGs to have ever graced not only the Super Nintendo , but any other console system as well . Both FFIV and V are stellar instalments of the epic franchise that video game fans have grown to not just love , but obsess about . If you're not familiar with the series , they are not your typical U.S . AD D dugeon crawls , they are epic stories that usual cross entire worlds and many times involve the destruction of whole continents . Your cast of heroes is usually a motley colletion of sword swingers , amnesiac wizards , martial artists , cross-dressing pirates , mystical moogles ( you have to see them to understand ) , etc , etc , etc . They definately are quirky and have a style all their own . Final Fantasy paved the way for the modern style of Japanese RPGs , and this set is an excellent way to relive the golden age of Square in the 16 bit era . I would like to note that the Japanese version of this anthology included FFIII ( FFII over here ) , but instead we get a disc of music from the two games included . If the two games were so amazingly stellar it would hurt the review , but I just can't bring myself to give this collection anything less than 5 stars . Don't let the archaic graphics drive you away from this wonderful , wonderful video game experience .

      • 089 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy Anthology What classic games . Both Final Fantasy 5 and Final Fantasy 6 are incredible games in the series . I enjoyed playing both of them from start to finish . I do , however , have a few caveats for people interested in buying this game . - These are direct ports from the Super Nintendo , released in the states in 1991 . The graphics are of the time ; they aren't the 3D graphics of the PlayStation . - There are some load-times , which are a little frustrating at times , due to the fact that these were not present in the Super Nintendo release of these games . - This is a Final Fantasy game . It requires time , patience , and will not necessarily be a walk in the park . You will have to spend time exploring and leveling up . It is inevitable . I was inspired to write this after reading several ignorant review stating that ' these graphics sux ! ! ' and ' FFVII pwns ! ! ' These games are well worth the time and effort , as long as you remember you are playing games that are over 10 years old . That is all .

I was inspired to write this after reading several ignorant review stating that ' these graphics sux ! ! ' and ' FFVII pwns ! ! ' These games are well worth the time and effort , as long as you remember you are playing games that are over 10 years old . That is all .

      • 094 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy VI on this collector's package was the first final fantasy i have ever played , which was on the super nintendo at the time i did . FFVI i believe has a great storyline and I think even though the graphics don't compare to what is out there today , the storyline and fun gameplay will make this a must-have for final fantasy collectors and rpg fanatics .

      • 096 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) This game is awesome . It was a two-game package for the price of one . In one week I was halfway done with it , and my brother was halfway done with the other one . Out of all of the Final Fantasy games , VI is probably my favorite .

      • 098 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Although I find Final Fantasy V to be a weak point in the series ( and it glitches on me frequently ) , nothing can compare to the magic of Final Fantasy VI . It is , in my honest opinion , the greatest RPG . FF : Anthology reinvents the magic of Terra , Locke , Celes , Edgar , Sabin , and everyone else tenfold ! Marvelous play , and definitely worth beating more than once !

      • 103 4  I was amazed when I saw this package . I had to have it . Final Fantasy VI is one of the best RPGs of all time . There is something in the story , the characters , and the locales that just grabbed me . It grabbed a lot of my friends , too . I think maybe it is because the story is complex enough to be interesting , but most of the characters are simple enough to be kept track of all their subplots , and almost every character has a subplot . It is an engrossing game , and I do think it is a shame it didn't get a Playstation makeover , but just the fact it is being given a new audience is good enough . Final Fantasy V is not as bad as everyone makes it sound , even though it is not anywhere near as interesting as later entries . It did introduce the job system ( Final Fantasy Tactics ring a bell ? ) and the story , while not as well done , will still keep an interested player interested . The music CD misses some of the highlights though . How could they miss the opera house music ? Wasn't that one of the few video game scenes that actually brought out some emotion ?
      • 104 4  Final Fantasy Anthology is a great game to add to your FF collection . Though the tiny simplistic characters are what they are , they still put a lot of personality into those little pixels . The story line takes a while to pick up , but once you have , it's fun . I haven't found them to be the easiest games in the world ( I tend to get lost a lot ) they're well worth the time . The game meets its price because of all it includes : FFIV FFV Music CD with all those little MIDI songs Maybe you don't appreciate that kind of stuff , so you might be more interested in FF7 or FF9 or whatever . They're all good as far as I'm concerned . If you liked the old Final Fantasy games , this games for you . I'd also recommend Final Fantasy Tactics . It does take a bit of skill , but it's a great game . This game along with Chronicles is hard to find ( I know first hand ) but it's well worth it . Good luck !
      • 105 4  Both of these games are classic RPGs . FF5 was never released in the U.S ( you could get it if you had an emulator ) . The storyline in 5 is a little weak I thought , but the battle system , job system , and ability system give the game endless possibilities . You can have fun going through the game again using different combinations of jobs . If you have never played FF5 or FF6 prior to buying this anthology , play 5 first because it will set you up for 6 . Now , onto FF6 . I feel this is the best RPG ever . Though the modern Final Fantasies offer better graphics , bigger story lines , ect , FF6 is the greatest of all time . When it was released on the SNES as FF3 , it was ground breaking . It blew everything out of the water with its interactive story line , personable characters , and awesome battle system . So for its time , FF6 is untouchable . The story line is linear , most of the time you know where you are supposed to be going and what you are supposed to be doing , but at the same time you are on your toes because you can't tell what will happen next . The music will blow you away to . It really adds to the effect of the game . FF6 is also a long game , first time I played it on the SNES , it took me 80hrs to beat . Once you know the game inside and out , you can do it in 20hrs . The difficulty is just right as well . Most people will be able to get through this game without having to get a guide . That's how an RPG should be . It should make you think , but not make you have to look up answers on the net or in a guide . If you are an RPG fan , and have PS1 or PS2 , buy this game . They are becoming collector's items . I bought mine used for 40 bucks ( in nice condition ) . That's a pretty steep price , so just imagine how much it will be in a year or so .
      • 106 4  Final Fantasy Anthology is a 2 in 1 game . FF5 is a game with outdated graphics , I admit , but the job system and story are amazing . FF6 ( originally FF3 for SNES ) is , has , and always will be the best of the FF series . With its 100 + hours of gameplay , side quests , charecters , love stories , and loads of interesting equipment , it was designed to be the best of the best . It is a challenge , and anyone who is a FF fanatic should buy this game .
      • 107 4  I was so surprised to find out that my most favorite game of all time came to the playstation ! . I love Final Fantasy VI , or also known as , Final Fantasy III ! I belive that this is the only game in the world with such a storyline . It has everything , for everyone : Romance ; Comedy ; Adventure ; Fantasy ( of course ) ; Friendship ; etc . . . What more could you want in a game ? ! ? I give this game a 5 - star because it made me happy , it kept me occupied , and it has a wonderful story . I highly recommend that you play this-you won't be dissopointed !
      • 108 4  FF6 is a great game for the supernintendo and even though the graphics are not enhanced the movies are great . and what can you ask for when you re-create a game anyway ? they keep the old style which is good because if they changed it would be way to complicated . Another bonus is you can have your older brother help you on it , he probably still has the original .
      • 109 4  Eventhough there are two games in this package by Squaresoft , I'd like to review Final Fantasy VI because it is by far the best RPG ever ! FF6 is the first and best RPG I've ever played . Somewhere during the summer of 96 , my friend and I rented this game from Blockbuster . Before this I never liked games with words or stories that you have to follow ; I've always wondered how a game could be fun when you have to use your head . BOY WAS I WRONG ! That sleepover was one of the most important nights of my life ; I didn't sleep for days after trying to finish this game ; I WAS ADDICTED . From then on I became a RPG fanatic , I have played everything from the Breath of Fire series to Lunar on Sega CD to Xenogears on Playstation . Until this day , I haven't played a game as absorbing as FF6 ( FF3 in the US ) . The storyline is absolutely brilliant , Kefka's plan to reign over the world , Shadow's secret background , the magitek factories , Terra's ambivalent and ambiguous feelings about herself , and definitely Kefka's last words as a GOD are all examples of the great fantasy qualities of this game . Today s RPG s such as final fantasy 8 have lame dialogues and realistic pursuits such as the well proportioned characters that are just lacking the imagination and creative individualities of its predecessors . Two words : Absolutely Magical ! All in all , I still like today s RPG s and I cannot imagine my life without them . Here s a top 10 list of the best RPG s I ve ever played ( If you don t care about graphics ) : 1 . Final Fantasy VI ( No comments necessary ) 2 . Chrono Trigger ( After playing it , you ll feeling like you ve lived through it ) 3 . Xenogears ( I love anime and robots and this is a dream come true ) 4 . Final Fantasy IX ( Slow at first but a definite classic ) 5 . Final Fantasy VII ( Love the bike rides and snowboarding experiences ) 6 . Dragon Quest VI ( Great RPG if you read Japanese ) 7 . Lunar 2 : Eternal Blue ( Memorable characters ) 8 . Final Fantasy V ( Neat job system ) 9 . Earthbound ( Very wacky and very entertaining ) 10 . Breath of Fire II ( Plain fun )
      • 110 4  I would give this 4 and 3 / 5 stars but they won't let me so I'll just leave it at 5 . I think that this is a great reissuing of a great game , FFVI , and the release of a so-so game , FFV . First I'll focus on the flaws , there are some unexpected load times . It takes much , much longer than neccesary to get to the menu or the battle field and I just began thinking Man , this could be on a cartridge . Other than that , there are no real problems . Second , FFV is one of the series ' weakest games , and although good , it is not for those who want a game that is so great that they will be searching for years to find a better one . Also , if you want to be amazed by graphics than don't bother looking at this game , it is only for those with a more open mind and don't care about some dated graphics , but who really cares about all-around great games . I would get this game and have fun with some fun games and who cares if they load weird and have some old graphics .
      • 111 4  Finally , Final Fantasy 6 on PSX ! FF6 is arguably the best RPG ever made , and its still a great play on the Playstation . Final Fantasy 5 is also an enjoyable game , which was originally unreleased in the US . It returns to the class system employed by the earlier editions of Final Fantasy . The add-ons to these games , such as some FMV , are also very good and make this package a great value . Check this one out !
      • 112 4  Squaresoft has always been known to make some very challenging games , so when I heard I could get a copy of the Fifth and Sixth installments of the game , I got right to it . I could tell from the first day that this game would be both a challenge and a joy . It was all that and more . Some people would shun any games from Square that wasn't a complete dazzler , but seen to not care about gameplay . Final Fantasy Anthology is , in it's own way , a visual marvel . Considering these were released for the the SNES , it is amazing . The main reason to play this game is just that . . . to play it . The gameplay is unbelievable . Great controls , super music , and a great story all contribute to my review . The Greatest FF ever ? No . That belongs to Final Fantasy 9 now . But if there was a second place , this incredible game would be in that position . Five Stars . Awesome Game !
      • 113 4  If you do not own this package , why not ? This has Final Fantasy VI which is not only the best Final Fantasy , but the best video game in my opinion ! If you are a new-gen RPGer , put the graphics aside and play this ! You'll be hooked . This game has it all ! Characters , gameplay , music , story ! This is an epic compared to any other Final Fantasy . This stands as the only video game that can make me cry ( when a certain someone jumps off of a cliff ) . While just FFVI alone is worth the price , this also comes with FFV . While not one of the best Final Fantasies , it's still very entertaining and has the cool job system that FF Tactics later borrowed . I highly recommend this over FFVII , FFVIII , and FFIX .
      • 114 4  It usually takes a year or two for Square to release another Final Fantasy game , but anthology is not just one great FF game , it's two great FF games . Sure they're old and many will be scared off by the 16 - bit graphics , but those who stick around will enjoy some quality gaming . This package will last you a while too , as each game will take 40 + hours to complete . This is well worth your time .
      • 115 4  I am not camplaining about the games , just how it was packaged . They completely left out Final Fantasy IV , which would have made the package even better , and then there should have at least been more computer generated scenes , because that would have brought the characters even more to life . To me these two things were a major disappointment when I got this game . One thing I thought was a great idea was the new Battle Transitions . I think they are even better that the new Final Fantasys , so I'll give them credit for that . The games are fine and really do bring back old memories of the SNES days and are just as fun as any other RPG . Oh well , if they had alot more CG scenes the package might have 15 cd or something , but hey , I wouldn't mind if it was the same price !
      • 116 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final FAntasy V is a great game , and the only departments it is lacking is graphics and sound ( since it was released in 1992 ) . The battle system , with the job abilities is fantastic . Final fantasy VI is also good , but many gamers have played this already . The music CD is worthless . the music is good , but not good enough to listen to by itself .

The combination of past and future give you the best of bith worlds . Though the graphics are far from stunning it is a great one to one for any RPG fan .
      • 120 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) I think Final fantasy 6 is the best game ever created . Through out the game you are challanged over and over again . The replay value is awsome ! You just want to play it over and over again . One of my favorite features is that you arent tied down to just one character . There are a total of 14 or so , and there isnt just one main character . Some are more developed then others , but not one true character . If 6 had the same graphics FF8 , ohhh man you couldnt stop playing this game . FF5 is a very good RPG as well . The class system will keep you intertained for months . And , it makes you feel like your playing FF4 . The only thing i dont like about the game , is you only get to use 5 characters , but , i still give it 5 stars !

      • 122 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) This package is amazing . FFV hsa a job system that makes it fun to do mindless leveling up in the game , and offers diversity when playing , though sometimes to beat a boss charector you need specific jobs to defeat him . FFVI is a completly diferent story . In FFIV you drawn into the greatest story ever told in an RPG . Infact the sory is so great you dont even realize that you are playing a game that came out on the SNES years ago . i suggest you buy it , the music CD is nice to have but has no true purpose , unless you are a hard-core gamer . SO BUY IT ! where i live you cant even find a copy .

      • 124 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Well , the descriptions I read here before I bought this on Amazon were pretty accurate . Six is a classic . I do think that FF V is underrated in Amazon's review , I liked it and it doesn't seem to get me stuck as often as FF VI does . The dialog on both of these games is pretty bad . It appears to have been translated from Japanese , however the story line is interesting and the music cd has some ok songs on it so I think it's a pretty good deal .

      • 127 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) This game is a remake of the snes hits . The story line for the FFVI is really good . The biggest problems are that like most of the FF games , you need to spend to much time near the end of the game to level up so that you can stand a chance . The other problem is that the game can be very slow when moving from screen to screen .

      • 129 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy VI ( III in states ) is my favorite game of all time ! I don't just mean RPGs either . It was the the first game I owned and the best ! I know for a fact that the following FFs ( 7 8 ) were based somewhat on the storyline . I haven't finished 5 yet but it is kind of nerveracking and I hate the job system ( too bad for the upcoming Final Fantasy IX ) . Plus ( even though this will affect my social life ) I always listen to the soundtrack.I think anyone who loves RPGs and a great story will love 6 ( although a love for evil laughs makes the story all the better ) . P.S . Why haven't they made 6 into a movie yet !

      • 131 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) This is an amazing 2 games . Personally , I like FFV more than VI . But they are the best Final Fantasies of the last four . If you are new to the RPG world , however , buy FFVIII . It is quite an easy game . In FFV , the Ability system shines . It is better than materia , and the summon spells are nice and short as opposed to the ones in VII and VIII . The graphics are a throwback to a quieter time . The game proves that graphics and movies are most certainly not everything . To a trues RPGer , they are the last two things you consider when buying a game . FFVI is also a great game . This FF jump-started many systems found in later Final Fantasies . The open party system is one of my favorite . You are not forced to have the main character in your party . Probably the biggest drawback I could see was that the default character names were all in caps .

      • 135 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) First off , if you can't stand a game with bad graphics , don't buy this ! But beneath the rough exterior lies two of my all time favorite RPGs . Square has ported FFV and FFVI over to the Playstation for a wonderful gaming experience . FFV has a cool job system similar to that in FF Tactics that allows you to have complete control over your character's growth . You can have a ninja , knight , samurai , thief , etc . The storyline , although corny at times , keep you interested enough to keep on playing , but the game's strength lies in battle and character growth . FFVI on the other hand is a more traditional RPG . It has a great storyline and unique charcters , all with different , special abilities . And , of course , the opera scene . Mix these two games together , add all new FMV and bonuses , and you have another winner from Square .

If you own Final Fantasy III for super Nintendo and liked this then you'll really like what Playstation has done to it . They've added in amazing cutscenes to this game . I not to keen on Final Fantasy VI but it still is an OK game . I would buy this game just for FFVI . The music CD it comes with is also OK .

      • 141 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) People are getting mad that square did not redo the graphics in these games . WHO CARES ! If you are really a good gamer and have any taste in good games at all then you will see that this game has it all . So many things to do , it keeps you going for hours . It manages to tell a really cool story without the best graphics in the world . Everything about it rocks . I recommend playing Final Fantasy 6 first . It is better then 5 . This game ranks at the top with Xenogears . Both this and Xenogears are worth every penny . And the bonus soundtrack rocks !

      • 143 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Well FFV is okay . I hate the job system though but all in all its good . The story's good and the game play is okay but . . . FFVI is awsome . Everything is the game is cool . The story is good the bad guys is bad , and all of the systems are good . Its good that everyone can learn every spell . As well are the Espers can attack the enemy . Each person also has a destinct ability that is helpful and creative . If your looking for an awsome RPG come and get FF Anthology .

The story is good the bad guys is bad , and all of the systems are good . Its good that everyone can learn every spell . As well are the Espers can attack the enemy . Each person also has a destinct ability that is helpful and creative . If your looking for an awsome RPG come and get FF Anthology .
      • 145 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) FF3 is an excellent game with changing characters and aa great storyline . If the inferior graphics dont bother you this game is well worth the price . Surely this is the best FF of all time , because it is the first where you can change characters at will and has many more than ff7 which only has 9 .

Although it is lacking ingraphics the story line more than makes up for this . The added FMV sequences really help . Whatever you do this year , Play Anthology and FF VIII . END

      • 149 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) This is a great game . Yes , it is old , and the graphics are 16 - bit and not that great . I really enjoyed this game because it gave me a chance to play Final Fantasy 6 again without going out and buying a Super Nintendo . In case you didn't know , FF Anthology consists of Final Fantasy 5 and 6 . This is the first time that FF5 has ever been released in the U.S . As for FF6 , it was released here in 1994 as FF3 for Super nintendo . If you understood all that , congratulations . Both games have a killer story line and they provide the bases for other Fantasies , like 7 and 8 . Many famous components of these two games originated in these two games . Definitely worth the money .

      • 152 4  FF5 REVIEW FF5 never made it to the US when it was released in Japan . But now we can finally experience it on the PS1 . It's a great entry that is pretty underrated . GAMEPLAY : The highlight of FF5 is its job system . You can be a Knight , Monk , Thief , Dragoon , Ninja , Samurai , Berserker , Hunter , Sorceror , White Mage , Black Mage , Time Mage , Summoner , Blue Mage , Red Mage , Trainer , Chemist , Geomancer , Bard , Dancer , Mime , or you can just be Bare , each with a unique ability and weapon / armor choices . You can switch jobs anytime , and you can share abilities when you learn them . For instance , you can be a Black Mage with White Mage powers , and vice versa . It's kind of hard to explain , but you'll understand it . Whew , that was a mouthful . This is also the first FF to feature ATB , the bar that tells you when it's a character's turn to attack . The game has tons of unique sidequests and methods of transportation . This is the first FF to feature a submarine , and soon you will get an airship that can be used as a boat and a sub . Cool . GRAPHICS : Very good for the time . Not as good as FF6 ' s , but still decent . MUSIC : Not as strong as others , but this game still has some memorable tunes , like Gilgemesh's theme . STORY : Not the best FF story , but it has a great plot filled with twists . ADDED EXTRAS'S : Just FM。's at the beggining and end of the game . Not very good , because they get the character's hair color wrong . ( Bartz's and Galuf's is white instead of brown , and Reina and Faris's is blonde instead of purple . ) OVERALL : Don't listen to the haters . This is a very unique game . FFVI REVIEW FF6 was released in America as FF3 for the SNES . This and FF7 are arguably the best entries . GAMEPLAY : This game is the first FF to have a long range of characters and hidden characters , and it is the first FF to allow you to switch them . Each character has a unique ability and you learn magic through summoned Espers . About halfway through the game , the gameplay becomes sidequest-filled and non-linear . Once you get the airship back , you can go to the main villians lair , but if you do and don't bother with the secrets and sidequests , he will defeat you quite easily . Also , who can forget the infamous opera scene ? GRAPHICS : Very excellent . MUSIC : Another high point . From the boss music to Kefka's theme , it all rocks . STORY : A very great story with lots of twists . Kind of reminds me of Star Wars in some places . ADDED EXTRAS : Just another FMV scene and they didn't get Terra's hair color right . ( It's green , not blonde ! ) OVERALL : An RPG masterpiece , no questions asked . OVERALL FOR PACKAGE : You can probably find it for $15 . And it's a steal for 2 epic RPG's .
      • 153 4  When Final Fantasy VI first came out in the US , I was excited as excited can be . It was an incredible game , by anyone's standards . But it cost 70 dollars . Here , we have the opportunity to buy this as well as the never-released before in the US Final Fantasy V , along with bonus features , for 40 dollars ! The games certainly lack the graphical polish of the games of today . But that is irrelevant - they offer great gameplay , great music , and most importantly , great stories . It is rather obvious that FF 6 is the more sophisticated of the two games , but FF 5 has its own charms . In particular , anyone who has played Final Fantasy Tactics will recognize the job system . FF 6 represented a new path for Square in the RPG department . There was a focus on more mature themes and , unlike most other RPGs , there was no main character . Their stories interwove wonderfully and seeing how the characters related to each other was one of the highlights of the game . The gameplay is solid - each character offers their own distinct traits for use during combat , unlike the later FFs ( i.e . , 7 and 8 ) and there is an incredible amount of stuff to do in this game . The music is also considered by many to be the best of the FF series . FF 5 was also a great game . While it lacked the in-depth characters and the complexity of the next FF , it does excel in all those areas nevertheless . Plus this game has Gilgamesh . It's worth playing just to see Gilgamesh . The bonus materials included on the discs are also excellent . There wasn't much for FF5 , except for the introductory CG sequence ( and maybe the ending , I'm not sure ) . As for FF6 , they added a section where you can see dozens of pieces of artwork for the remake of the game , as well as convenient tables of skills and monsters in the game . The additional music CD isn't great , but it doesn't detract from the quality of the set at all . If you're one of those that got started on the Final Fantasy series through 7 or 8 , be sure to check this set out . It's top notch .
      • 154 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Well , FFVI ( III ) was the game that made me realize that RPG's were for me ! I won't go into what a superior story and musical score FFVI has over almost every other RPG out there including FFVII and yes , even FFVIII , because anyone who has played this game on SNES already knows that . Archaic graphics aside , it's just simply the best RPG of all time . However , what prompted me to review the Playstation version was the very obvious slowing down of gameplay , almost as if the SNES format didn't translate well to Playstation . I found myself getting frustrated as I waited for menus to come up and engage . The music has taken on a tinny sound . Even the graphics don't seem as sharp . Rent this one first and see if you don't prefer your old SNES version . Being able to finally play FFV and viewing added computer animation sequences for my old favorite is nice , but it hardly makes up for the technical deficiencies I've encountered . ( However , if Playstation is the only game console you own , buy this game ! It continues to be the standard to which all other RPG's must rise and you deserve the best ! )

      • 156 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) I was very excited when this game came out . One of my two favorite FF games is 6 ( the other is 8 ) . The storyline is awesome , and unlike FF7 , it has a villain whom you grow to hate enough to want to destroy ( I thought Sephiroth was too cool for some odd reason ) . FF5 is also a good game , the problem however , is it takes a little too long to get into . I found myself bored until I got into the second world . That is the reason I gave it four stars instead of five . So id like to finish my review by recommending that you play all the final fantasy games ( and Chrono Trigger for the SNES , if you can find it ) .

      • 158 4  To summarize things quickly , FF Anthology contains the original versions of the Super Nintendo games FFV and FFVI , ( now obviously in Playstation format ) as well as a music cd featuring music from both games ( unfortunately , the cd doesn't have many standout tracks . . . personally , the selection was horrible ) . Both FFV and FFVI are great games . . . outdated graphically , but still excellent in their own right . FFV has an amazingly well-done battle system , and FFVI has a kickass storyline and is an all-around winner . The only problem is that , somewhere along the conversion from cartridge to disc , both games were inflicted with some of the worst load times I've seen in an RPG . You might not think this would count for much , but it seriously disrupts the flow of the game , especially after playing both games on Super Nintendo first . If I were rating this based on the quality of the games alone , I'd give this a five star rating , but those damn load times . . . you're much better off downloading both games from an emulation site to play on your computer , where they'll run without load times . . . and for free ( the music cd isn't worth the price either ) . I strongly recommend doing this . . . both games are true masterpieces not to be missed for RPG fans .
      • 159 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Ok , maybe the graphics and sound aren't of the same caliber as FF7 / 8 - - but there's a part of me that's nostalgic enough that I find myself wanting it this way . ( And besides , the FMVs * more * than make up for that . I still drool over the opening / closing of FF6 . ) But it was almost like going to a reunion , seeing my old friends Celes , Locke , Terra , Edgar , Setzer , Sabin , and the others again . I missed these characters while dragging myself through the plotless drudgery that was Final Fantasy VII . I agree with the other reviewers - - FF5 wasn't so hot , but FF6 is worth the purchase price alone . ( And the music disc included is excellent , as well . ) Whether or not you've played the game for the Super Nintendo , I recommend you pick these up and give them a try .

      • 161 4  At first , I was completely dismayed to hear that Final Fantasy IV wasn't going to be on here but I guess Final Fantasy V was a fair trade-off . New gamers that rely on cinemas and the ever-popular . . . might not completely understand the beauty of these two games , but people who appreciate art will be in awe . If you've played the disappointing . . . known as Final Fantasy VIII and want that old nostalgaic feel , this is the package to pick up . . . . . There's not much I can say about Final Fantasy VI . After beating the super nintendo version twice , this was just number 3 and I still had fun , as they fixed some bugs ( no more Lete River multi-hour leveling or unlimited items bug ( where the game crashed and when you opened it back up , you had 99 of all the rare items like Economizers and Gem Boxes = ) . . . Was completely random as far as I know since it just happened to me while I was playing ) ) . Final Fantasy VI just has a hands down amazing story , totally evil bad guy , and TONS of characters that are ALL developed and have one part of the story focused on them instead of 2 lines ( it's rare to see character development like this nowadays ) . Final Fantasy V was definitely something new to me . I had just recently beaten Final Fantasy Tactics so I was used to the Job System kind of . I liked it because it would take a LONG time to get everyone mastered in every class . What I liked about FF5 was that old feeling , renewed . Although the characters weren't very developed , the story started off simple and became excellent . This was one of the FEW games where I actually spent hours trying to beat some bosses . The last boss for example . . . I had to level probably 4 more hours to even match his power once I got to him . THIS is what I like to see in an RPG . The optional bosses . . . I'm not even touching them with a 10 - foot pole . The only thing I didn't like about this package was that the music CD didn't have a list of good tracks , but it was free , so hey ! Also , there weren't a lot of cinemas . In fact there are only 2 in FF5 ( intro and ending ) and 3 in FF6 ( intro and ending and alternate trailer ) . Considering the games are VERY small ( not more than 3 megs at the most ) , I expected to see a LOT more cinemas but that's ok . Also , there were some translation errors in FF5 . . . Like lines that didn't make sense and stuff like that . I don't remember anything offhand , but I know they were there . Also , sometimes on FF5 , your objective at the time isn't too clear . Anyways , this is worth buying , GET IT NOW .
      • 162 4  As you have guessed from the title , I really really like this game . This game ( FFVI ) is , by far , the best game ever made . Lets go over its diferent parts on a scale of 1 - 10 Final Fantasy VI Music : 9 No game I have ever played has gotten a 10 with music . However , every sound clip in this game perfectly fits the mood . The sad , somewhat chaotic distortion of Cyan's theme when his family dies , how Celes ' and Locke's Theme intertwine symblizing their love , and of coure the best battle theme in any of the games . The reason I took off a point is because it isn't full-fledged Playstation music . Re-done it would be a masterpiece . Plot : 10 For those who say that Final Fantasy VIII's plot is the plot to beat all others is wrong . Although FF8 ' s plot is steller , it lacks the character depth that is formed in this game . In VI , it begins with a small story describing the War of the Magi , and how magic is reborn . It then moves on to show three imperial soldiers , along with a strange ( green haired ) girl , who is , as far as the soldiers know , a mage . I won't ruin the story for you , but I can tell you that it is gripping , and you won't want to give up anywhere ! Playability / Playtime : 10 Easy to play . Anybody could do it . Simple spell learning , using , and easy equipping of the weapons . There are hundreds of weapons , each with their unique capabilities . For example , the valiant knife gains power as you are hurt , while the Atama weapon grows as your hitpoints grow . The play time also is enormous ; but those weak of heart will give up when a supposed ending is , infact , only the halfway point . Characters : 11 This is a masterpiece on the character scale . Over 10 characters , each with their own background , style of fighting and talking , and , most , with a secret background that unfolds during the story . Perhaps the only game that allows you to relate and attach yourself too all of the characters . It lacks a single main character , but this makes it even better . As the person approaches the final fight , he / she has to decide who to use and who to leave . The character that you like the most becomes the main character , the leader . I personally thought of myself as Locke , but each person is different . Graphics : 7 Dang it ! Good game , good everything , not so great graphics ! Though they ROCKED on the SNES , for a Playstation they didn't do so good . If they had re-released it with the same text boxes , plot , etc . , but entirely 3D graphics , this game would be fantastic . But they didn't , so we have SNES graphics . Still , this style seems to fit the gameplay . The movies conflict with the game , but they are still nice for a FF3 veteren like me to see all my favorite characters re-vamped up in to 3Dness . Overall : 10 Fantastic . Get it now . IF you actually read through this all , you MUST buy the game because you have WAY too much time on your hands . Get it now ! FFV in a blurb : Nope , not worth it . Thought it IS a Final Fantasy , play final fantasy 4 instead , it has better graphics and a better story . The music is ok , but still . . . are you sure this is a SquareSoft game ? Age Recommendation for FF Anthology : 9 + Don't be fooled by the Teen Rating , this game is made for all , though sometimes the story is to intense for younger children to understand . Final Fantasy Anthology also has the soundtrack for FF6 , making it even better ! Even if you don't like RPGs you will LOVE this game I SWEAR ! Come on , at least RENT IT ! This is the best game ever !
      • 163 4  Those who think VI sucked obviously have no taste and should be banned from RPGs . VI is by far the best RPG ever . While it doesn't have the graphics of the latest installments to the series ( remember it was originally released for SNES and the graphics were top of the line back then ) it still overcomes all others though the incredible storyline and something most playstation games lack , replay value . Another thing I love is the style of magic use . Although it does not remaing true to the originals , where only mages can use magic , it allows your characters to permenantly learn spells unlike VII with that highly annoying materia . . . . The spells and espers / summons are incredible . Enter Ultima . Numerous secrets keep you coming back for more . I could write a book on how awesome this game is , but I will let you find out for yourself . As for V , a good game , not quite up to the caliber of the others . I love it simply because it holds the Final Fantasy name , but I do feel that it is definately worth playing . It is a different storyline in the FF world with fairly interesting characters . All in all FF Anthology is a must buy !
      • 164 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) ok now , im a huge fan of the entire final fantasy series , and unlike many others , this includes mroe than just vii and viii . ive played all games that are even remotely related to final fantasy , and let emt ell you , the graphics arent what makes this series so endearing . ive got final fantasy 6 and final fantasy 5 as well as the anthology ( although my copy is quite scarred ) . part 5 is the unreleased chapter , and the reason is quite clear . . . this game is nt meant for children , nor the young . its got strange themes , almsot comedic plots in its weirdness , and despite this , it is definitely the msot under rated of the series . the Ps version is different however from the true japanese version which ive translated . how would you like a character named Butz ? despite low key graphics compared to 7 and 8 , the storyline and overall gameplay keep things interesting . and part 6 ' s triumph over the SNES is reason alone to purchase the anthology , however try broadening youre horizons a bit with 5 .

      • 166 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Final Fantasy 6 is arguably the greatest FF game and RPG ever made , and FF5 is another one of the greatest RPGs I have ever played , so how come this game didn't get 5 stars ? Well , the load times would be a great place to start . Just like in FF Chronicles , one of the games has great load times , and the other is plagued horribly . FF6 has the worst load times I have ever experienced , even worse than all other ps1 games which have BETTER graphics and contain just as much if not MORE information ( remember Wild Arms ? That game was huge , AND it had better graphics than FF6 , but it's load times were very , very short , almost unnoticcable , so what the heck ! ? ) . Every time you enter a battle you are greeted with 5 + seconds of looking at a black screen , sound fun to you ? I didnt think so . Every time you enter the menu you are greeted with another 5 + seconds of load time . Sure , it's only 5 seconds , but once you experience it , you will feel how long five seconds CAN feel , especially when you are used to fast-paced games ( the load times are much slower than the PS1 ff's ) But on to the games themselves . . . Final Fantasy 6 - Music - 5 / 5 , Fun 0 / 5 , Story 5 / 5 Gameplay 0 / 5 , overall - 1 / 5 This game is a masterpiece , the greatest RPG ever released on any system . However , given the poor load times , the fun value of this game is whiped out . Seriously , it's a chore to play it . If you have a SNES system i'd dish out 30 bucks for it if you can find it on Amazon or somewhere else . The SNES version has blazing fast load times , the graphics are better , and the whole experience is so much better . I think it is a terrible idea to release a masterpiece with flaws that whipe out any fun while playing the game . Basically , when you buy this you might as well save your time and throw the FF6 disk away , or sell it towards a SNES FF3 cartridge . Final Fantasy 5 - Music 5 / 5 Story 5 / 5 Gameplay 5 / 5 Fun 4 / 5 Overall 5 / 5 Now this is why this game is worth the price . FF5 is without a doubt a masterpiece , and the version on FF Anthology is great . The load times are pretty fast , the sound is great , and it has the Job system very much like ff Tactics . The job system is a phenomenal idea , and FF5 executes it perfectly . Some hate this game , but I think 5 is easily just as good as 9 . It isn't as good as 4 , 6 , 7 , or 8 , or heck even Tactics , but you have to realize that FF games are so good that even excellent isnt good enough , and this one is a masterpiece , like most the others . FF5 is much more difficult than any other FF game , even much harder than 4 , and you will have to battle quite often for long periods of time , and sometime this can be discouraging if you aren't into battling for a while , but other than that it is a good game . It starts off pretty slow , but as you progress it gets much better , so dont lose interest right away , just wait it out and see if it gets better for you . ( When i first got ff Anthology i didnt care a whole lot about 5 , but when i got around to progressing through it I found it was a great game ) Overall , This version of FF6 might as well not even have been issued , but it is definitely worth it for FF5 , and 15 - 20 bucks is extremely cheap for these two games , just don't expect FF6 to be as fast as the FF3 you remember playing as a kid for Super Nintendo . ( Still , I dont get it . Why does FF4 in Chronicles have blazing fast load times , but FF6 is plagued . . . ) . So anyway , I highly recommend buying this game , mainly for ff5 .

      • 168 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) Two great RPG's in one package . Playstation owners who began Final Fantasy with the 7th installment can finally see what all the hype is about with VI . Final Fantasy V is also a great game , the first in the series where you spend alot of time in the menu combining abilities with accessories / equipment to customize your characters . The only downside is the short load times when entering battles / opening the menu / entering new levels . However , these never last more than a few seconds . Whether you're discovering the SNES generation of Final Fantasy for the first time or re-visiting the classics , Final Fantasy Anthology offers a great gaming experience that you can only get on a console .

      • 170 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) This is a nice package of my two favorite Final Fantasy games : Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy V . Final Fantasy V has never seen release here and I feel that the translation was both well done and sensitive to the original Japanese version . Final Fantasy VI has been restored to its original glory in this version and it's a nice change to see uncensored graphics and the original Final Fantasy VI title with Tina ( Terra ) in Magitek armor . I highly recommend this collection !

      • 172 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) FFVI is the end-all best game ever created . The story line is simply out of this world . The game grips you from the beginning and never lets go . The interaction between the main characters is incredible . The game creates the most haunting mood of any game ever released , despite the now primitive graphics and sound . I have gone years without playing the game before but the story , environments , villains and even some of the music would still stand out in my mind . This game simply leaves an impression on you unlike any other video game ever could . After playing through it , every other game out there just seems void of content . No other Final Fantasy installment can touch this one ( FFVII is a distant second ) . This will likely remain the best game ever created unless it is completely remade with today's technology , but even that is questionable as the SNES graphics give an incredible atmosphere to the game anyway . My only complaint with this particular title is the result of its adaption to the Playstation . The new cinema cut scenes do not come even remotely close to doing this game justice . Some of the sound didn't carry over well either , and the addition of load times isn't exactly a welcome one . Despite these shortcomings , it's still the complete game , which is all that matters . FFVI was absolutely breathtaking in every aspect when it was released , and remains so to this day . The story , the music , the characters and the gameplay are still better than anything today's games have to offer . Anyone who has yet to experience this incredible adventure is only keeping themselves from one of the most engaging stories ever .

      • 174 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) I've noticed a couple people complain about the load times ( especially during battles ) . There's a quick and easy fix for PS2 owners : In the main menu under the PS1 Driver , there's a setup option for Fast Loading . When you turn that on , the game will load as fast as the original cartridge did . Problem solved . . And now for the game : FF6 * is * the best version of Final Fantasy made to date ( imho ) . FF7 , FF9 , and FF10 are also very good , but FF6 got the RPG formula perfect : Great characters , great story , great battle system . If I had to sell all my RPGs , FF6 is the one I would keep & play over-and-over . As for FF5 , the story is rather weak , but the gameplay is really really good , thanks to the job system ( like FF10 - 2 ) . What I like to do with FF5 is to experiment : - What if I had 4 white mages ? - What if I had 4 black mages ? - What if I had 4 fighters ? - Would I survive the battles w / such weak teams ? Thanks to its job system , FF5 has a great deal of replayability . Even after you beat the game , you can go back and replay with a completely different team , and new complications ( trust me , beating this game with 4 black mages is NOT easy ) . Bottom Line : Buy Final Fantasy 5 / 6 right now . If you're like me , you'll cherish it forever .

      • 180 4  Now this is gonna sound complicated : all Final Fantasy games were released in Japan first ( and still are ) then they come here . Well back when we had NES / SNES , they released Final Fantasy 1 , Final Fantasy IV , and Final Fantasy VI and renamed them to 1 , 2 , and 3 respectively . So once Final Fantasy VII ( probably the best RPG ever created and I don't throw that around lightly ) came out in 1997 , people went whoa , 7 ? what about 4 to 6 ? Enter Anthology , Chronicles and Origins and the recently announced Final Fantasy III remake for the DS . This review deals with Final Fantasy Anthology , containing V and VI Final Fantasy V Story : Bartz , Reina , Garaf and Faris have to take down X-Death ( dumbest FF villain name ever ) from controlling 4 crystals . Maybe it's my status as a post VI-player but it must've been irritating saving those damn crystals over and over . Graphics : They're pretty standard really , I mean this is the Super Nintendo so they're not great , even for SNES standards . The FM。's of course are cool . Music : Pretty good but not spectacular like IV or VI . Gameplay : It excels for one reason : The Job System . For the first time , you can customize your characters rather than just being one particular class . Master one job , move to another . The story is eh , music's ok , but play it cause it's a FF . Final Fantasy VI Story : They're existed once powerful beings called Espers many centuries ago . Now they're gone and the world is in an Industrial Revolution-like setting with airships and weaponry . A soldier of the Empire , Terra , was used for battle and after being free of mind control , joins a group of resistance members planning to take down the Empire . Graphics : For the most part the graphics are great for the SNES era . They're still not as sharp / detailed as Chrono Trigger or even colorful like Yoshi's Island but they work in the end . Sound / Music : The music here is usually cited as the best Uematsu soundtrack he's done . While personally I go with VII , VI is by no means a flawed soundtrack . There's tons of great themes : catchy ones , emotional ones and epic ones like Terra's Theme , Forever Rachel , Aria de Mezzo Caraterre and Dancing Mad . A HUGE cast list with 14 playable characters , still the largest cast in a Final Fantasy game . While it's nice to have variety , some don't get as much story as they should've . Ones like Celes , Terra , Locke and Setzer have substanstial backstory while others might just join your party and that's it . The game brings in the Esper System . It's not a wild departure like Junctioning but essentially you can equip an Esper to use in battle and after each battle you get points to learn a spell . Learn it and on to the next one . Finish them all and you can pick someone else . While V is merely playable for the Job system and the fact it's a FF game , VI is required playing for an RPG fan .
      • 181 4  This is a must buy for any RPG fans ! Two of the greatest games ever released together relatively cheap ! It's a dream come true ! Firstly , Final Fantasy V . It is doubtlessly better than the first four. The graphics , sound and storyline are far superior . The characters have better personalities than the first four . Basically you take command of this guy called Butz who is travelling around the world on his chocobo . The wind begins to weaken and you and some friends are given the task of protecting the crystals which basically control the world . This is an enjoyable game and I recommend you play this one first because FF6 is so much better . If you play that first then FF5 will be a let down . FF6 is probably the greatest ever RPG . Forget the dodgy graphics and sound . This game has the best storyline and characters out of any FF game . It also includes the best villain in any game ever ! Kefka , the psychopathic , twisted general ! I won't give away too much about the storyline because it will spoil it . JUST GET IT ! ! ! ! ! YOU WON'T REGRET IT !
      • 182 4  Final Fantasy Anthology is a collection of two of the greatest RPGs to have ever graced not only the Super Nintendo , but any other console system as well .
      • 183 4  I don't care what any of you other people say , Final Fantasy VI IS THE BEST RPG EVER . Period . Nothing else , not even Lunar ( or FFVII , for you jaded folks ) comes remotely close . First off , the storyline is the best I've ever seen in a game , and I have played Metal Gear Solid and all the Zelda's . With it's plot twists , numerous characters ( 14 in all ) and the ability to be serious , funny and playable at the same time makes this game a classic . You want a plot twist ? I don't want to give any of this great geme away , but about halfway through , there is an , uh earth-shattering kaboom , as Marvin the Martian would say . You'll see , I'm not crazy . Secondly , the music - - FFVI has almost the best music in any game , only second to Chrono Trigger . Kefka's theme , the main theme , the ending music , even the weird Chocobo music : all of it is solid gold . Finally , the replay value . I have played through this game ( on the SNES ) SIX TIMES and I still love it . There are a staggering amount of side quests ranging from delivering letters , to finding the Atma Weapon , to finding invisible enemies that are stronger than the final boss ! There's just so much to do , I'm gonna go play it right now ! Yip-ee ! !
      • 184 4  FF6 alone is the best game ever the only games that even come close are FF4 , FF7 , FF9 , SoM , and CT . FF6 has about 12 or 14 charecters 12 with great storys and the overall plot is great too , and FF5 is pretty good infact it is the reason I bought the game is to play FF5 Because I had already played FF3 for the SNES if your even thinking about buying other games before this don't it is undesputed greatest game ever ! !
      • 185 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) First off , this is reveiw of ff6 in ffa . FF6 is my personal favorite of the cartrige-era FF titles . I bought FFA on a whim and am glad I did so . The first time I went through it , my memory card said 40 hours . While the disc-accasse times are at times unbearable , I worked around by using a ps2 and seleted the fast load option . Once you finish the game you will unlock FF6 artwork and the sound test . The feture I appecated the most was how you could memo-file ( softsave ) your game in progress .

      • 188 4  This review is from : Final Fantasy Anthology ( Video Game ) These 2 games are great if you like older rpg .
