The Bouncer

  • 1 - 2 hours , I figured they're experts and there's no way I could beat it as fast as them , but I did . Another minus is in some battles , the camera angles aren't very good , but that shouldn't keep you away from this game . Now for the good part . The storyline was incredible as expected and the graphics I couldn't say enough about ! Controls are simple and a really fun game to play too ! Also , the versus and survival modes can keep you busy for a while . It's cool how you can battle your friend's characters and stuff . All in all , this game is GREAT and I'd give it a 5 out of 5 if it wasn't so short . They'd made it a bit longer , this game wouold've got 9.5 ' s from everyone , not 8 ' s or even lower . I think this game is underrated by critics and is better than the bad reviews about it . You should rent this game before you buy it or if you liked other squaresoft fighting games like EHRGEIZ , or Tobal you'll LOVE this game just like I did ! Great job Squaresoft ! !
    • 017 4  The Bouncer is definetely one of the best games I've ever played , period . One minus of this game in a word is SHORT , very short . Game's great and all but I beat this game in like 1 hour ! I mean , I'm not that great at video games and still , I beat it in an hour . When I saw the reviewers say Time To Beat : 1 - 2 hours , I figured they're experts and there's no way I could beat it as fast as them , but I did . !
    • 073 4  i love squaresoft and this is a good game but the fact of the matter is that you'll spend 1 - 5 minutes playing the game followed by 2 - 6 minutes of video and story developement . the actual gameplay is a little sluggish and a let down . on the upside the graphics are a squaresoft standard of quality . so if you don't mind getting into a game and taking breaks every few minutes to watch cutsceens you'll probably like this one .
    • 119 4  I will start off by saying SHORT . 2 Hrs max . The concept of building up your characters is nice but not worth playing through 3 times to max them out . Also the Story lines for each character aren't worth playing them through either . When you've seen one you've pretty much seen them all except for a few scenes and different phrases . The graphics are nice which they should be . Expected more from Square but wait I usually do . . . . . . and they usually don't .

  • 020 4  This game could have been a lot better . The graphics are tite and stuff but u cant really interact with the backgrounds . ITs just there fo sho , and the story is pretty lame also . Most of the game is the cut scenes . Ive been playin this game for about 3 - 4 hours and im done beatin the game with all 3 players . The controls and move are basic and simple and the game is pretty simple too . it reminded me of final fight with better graphics and little more of a diverse story mode . The best part of the game was just fighting people like final fight . other then that it pretty much sucks . due to the games short length , i suggest that u rent this game and beat it over the weekend or somethin .
    • 105 4  this is an awsome game lots of cinematics and good game play it lacks motivation but is still super cool.people who dont haveb it buy it and then enjoy it .

  • 034 4  You might have heard that this game is short and kinda boring , but that's for those hardcore gamers and those who are GOOD at video games . Me , I love to play video games , but I find that a lot of them are really hard ! Don't get me wrong , I love a challenge , but some games take weeks and sometimes months to finish ! At least at my skill level , which isn't saying much . I think this game's storyline is a little corny , but it's still entertaining . It has different outcomes for certain things , depending on the character you use to fight . This game is a fighting game with somewhat of a good story put to it . It's not just beat these guys , beat the boss , and you're done . It also has a really cool multi-player mode . You could play with up to four people . But I recommmend that you beat the game before you play the multi-player so you can have more people to choose from . The survival mode is adequate as well . All in all , this is a good game for a person who doesn't want to spend FOREVER trying to figure out a puzzle or secrets or whatever . This game is good when you just wanted to be entertained .
    • 080 4  This game is so sick ! I love it ! I recommend this game to anyone who loves fighting games or anyone who likes those games just to play when you're pissed off about something ! . . .

  • 037 4  I think THE BOUNCER is plain cool but simple because it took me about 2 hours to beat . I think the fastest fighter is sion , volt is slow but strong most of kou's combos are kicking moves . this was the third game I got and the coolest . when you fight sometimes there's other people on their team . the hardest boss to beat is duragon because at the end when you fight him twice but if you beat him the first time you keep all the health you had when you beat him the first time and duragon gets all his health back .
    • 077 4  Totally loved the game . Beat it several times already and I'm still enjoying it . Great graphics and the characters are totally awesome . I sure hope they make an ANIME movie about this . Hey , they made one for Tekken and Street Fighter . ; ) Anyway , another cool aspect of the game is that after everytime you beat a boss character , you unlock this particular character in the fighting / survival version of the game , which makes it totally rocks . This game has everything ! A cool story and it's both an adventure and double as a fighting game as well . I sure hope they make a BOUNCER 2 soon . I would totally buy it ! : )
    • 082 4  I hurd about this game from one of my friends . So when i went in to turn in my ps1 i got THE BOUNCER ! ! And let me tell you this game is so much funn the replay value is very high . The only problem is as you go it goes from incredably hard to childish easy . The video modes can and do get very boring . But you can skip though them ! ? And the vs mode is fun as well

  • 039 4  I thought that this game had great graphics and and controls were nice and easy , but the rest of the game stunk . The story is kinda stupid although it is cool that the story changes a little with each person . The camera angle in parts of the game are horrible , but worst of all is the fact that you can finish the game in an hour and a half or so . So if your thinking about buying it RENT IT FIRST .
    • 076 4  i said sorry to all the people who liked this game because i only gave it one star . the reason why i hate this game is that it is to short it took me twenty - minutes to beat serieously . but actually it has okay replay value .

  • 041 4  This is definitly the most stunning video game I have ever played . The graphics are like no other . It is exactly what makes Nintendo and Microsoft shiver . Each company has it's high point . Capcom is high on one factor while Squaresoft is high on another . Of course , Squaresoft's always been high on graphics and nothing else . Length and Lasting Appeal are still Square's worst and that isn't a factor that a company should have against them . However , they did have some bad problems with the game in development so it's good that we even got what we have now . However , it's still not enough . The game is mostly movies and save options . The loading in some areas gets very redundent and annoying . If you made the game into three CDs , it still would be too small . In fact , I didn't realize I was at the final boss until the second time he got up . There are hardly any reasons to replay the game besides it's hidden extras like characters in the 2 - 4 player mode and the hidden FMV scene for Sion . Is it worth . . . ? The answer is no . Wait for Final Fantasy X because that's what most people are doing . I still have thoughts about The Bouncer since it was quite an experience . It doesn't deserve a purchase but it is worth a few $5 rentals . If you are still one of the Squaresoft fans that simply must have it , go ahead . It's still very entertaining and fun . The powerups take plenty of time to get and there are three characters to play as . Also , at one point they split up going to different places in Mirkado . So it's your chance to see a few new screens if you've been stuck on Sion .
    • 008 4  Squaresoft has been living up to its name for years . The game looks really amazing but it's too darn short . The whole story ends too quick . I can beat the game in 1 hour , but the CG movies hulls it longer . . . which is kinda good . If you're not the person who likes game that you go around fighting people , then I wouldn't recommend this game to you . But if you love smashing people and stuff like that , then you should definitely try this game !
    • 031 4  If You want to watch a movie , go to blockbuster , or buy this game . If you want to play a game , then get something else . This is not a game it is a movie . You get to play the parts of the movie that involve fighting . This game . . er Movie is short , very short . The graphics are mind blowing , we expect nothing less from Square . This is the reason to get Final Fantasy X instead .
    • 052 4  For years on end , Squaresoft has presented the video gaming world with the very most elite video games in the world , of which include the ever popular Final Fantasy Series . The Bouncer fits right in with it's other amazing titles . As the game says , the Bouncer is like a action movie you play . It is a movie , acutally , only you play the parts that have actual fighting . It is one of the most intriguing titles yet .
    • 068 4  Well , today I start my review by mentioning I have not played this game in 4 years , but recently picked up another copy ( haven't played it yet ) So I'll try my best to remember all the important details . . . ON WITH THE REVIEW ! So its almost 2009 now , And Squaresoft is now defunct ( has been for years ) what better way to remember them then by looking back on there first PS2 game ? The bouncer was visually pleasing ( and still is-only losing a bit of it's visual charm over the years ) and was one of the first games to feature 5.1 sound ( only in the FM。's ) It's a very good game , but relies on storytelling rather then actually game play ( just to put it in perspective , if you skipped all the cut-scenes , it would take about 30 - 40min to beat the game per character , about 3.5 - 4hours without skipping ) I think that this was an over-all ' testing the waters ' game for Squaresoft before they released there ( possibly ) best ( and one of there last before merging with enix ) game . . . Final Fantasy 10 !
    • 093 4  To start of with this game has some pretty great graphics , but it stops there . The storyline is interesting but the CGI interruptions are very numerous and take up at least a 1 / 4 of the story . And to top this all of the story barely lasts over an hour . Squaresoft makes some phenomenal games just look at the Final Fantasy franchise , but this is not anywhere near what I expect of them . If I wanted a fighting game i would get something like Tekken or Bloody Roar . If u like realistic fighting games and fighting / tornament games this is for u . However do not let the promise of a good story game or the Squaresoft label fool u , a Final Fantasy this is most definitely not . To give what positive review I care to , in the whole fighting / tournament genre this is definitely one of the better ones . The fighters look very realistic and the moves do as well . However the premise to this game was the story and boy did it choke ! ! ! ! ! ! !
    • 108 4  This game has great graphics . The movie scenes are top of the line . The producer is Squaresoft ! ! The name sounds great ! ! One catch , the game . . . It took me 2 hours to beat it . The gameplay is easy . The plot is . . . The villains are annoying . The fighting is awesome , what little it has . I wasted my money , I shall not waste it in vain . Don't buy this game ! ! Have you ever hated returning a game to the video rental store , and not beating it , and having to rent all over again ? ! ? ! This is the game for you . Rent it , beat it , return it . . . in the same day ! In my honest opinion , Squaresoft should stick to the Role-Playing genre ,
    • 115 4  Bouncer is and old concepted boxed up in newer graphics . If you like side scrolling fighting / action games this one is for you . It's got good graphics , but they can be a little fuzzy at times . The FMVs are great , but that is what the game mostly is . You fight for a little while and then a long FMV comes on , then you fight a little bit more . Usually no more than 4 - 5 characters at a time . One cool effect is the Trinity Rush which allows all three characters to jump one enemy . Each character has their own trinity rush and they're all pretty devestating . Good game to borrow from a friend or rent . Not a must buy .
    • 123 4  As many Squaresoft fans did , this past weekend I purchased The Bouncer. All the advertisements and previews made it sound like game of the year . However , it was just a mindless beat-em-up with an okay storyline . I beat the game in 2 hours , and in one day I unlocked all the secrets . No challenge here at all.It was visually stunning , the first game to really harness the PS2 ' s power . But as an avid Final Fantasy fanatic , I thought the gameplay was a poor job by Squaresoft

  • 062 4  This game has some of the most beautiful graphics out there and I was very impressed . The Dreamcast doesn't have anything like this . This still however , is a horrible game that only lasts for a little over half an hour . When I first heard this I thought my friend meant short like Metal Gear Solid . In actuality he meant short like demo of MGS . The chance to play through as another character reveals nothing that is significant and you'll be glad that Blockbuster bought it instead of you . This game is another example of why I still spend more time playing my Dreamcast .
    • 014 4  This game is a blast ! Everybody who's played it knows the storyline so i'll skip that . The verses mode rocks with four players and there are TONS of characters . The bouncer is more of a playable movie than an RPG . You can twist up the story a ton by play as different characters for every fight . And the real fun fun of the game is getting your best character up to the S level so you can kick your friends butts . There is only one thing i would change about this truly awesome game . I wish there was a two player Co-Op story mode .
    • 029 4  I like rthe game a lot . Poeple say it's too short . I say so what , it's still a very awsome game . Even though I beat it so many times , I still find a challenge in the game .
    • 044 4  When I first played this game I thought it was very fun . The graphics are great the best I've ever seen . The fighting was also pretty good the only downside would be it reacts a bit slow but still very decent . The game takes about an hour to complete with one character , but there are 6 different endings , two for each character . This is kind of short but you have to keep in mind that it is an action game not an RPG . So for what it is it's decent but nothing new .
    • 070 4  Who cares if this game is too short . As long as the game has decent graphics , gameplay , and sound . And I really enjoy playing survival mode which is fun and enjoyable .
    • 092 4  I bought it used a few months ago and think its a good game if you can get it cheap . . . . The game was ok I liked it for a while and after beating it several times It got kinda boring the best part is playing the multiplayer with friends every now and then . . .
    • 098 4  The movies in this game were great . Unfortunately the game consists almost entirely of them . The first time through this game was pretty cool , but it doesn't have a lot of replay value . You can rent this and have plenty of time to master it . That's what I did .
    • 121 4  I bought this game and was soooooooo disappointed . Cinematics and more Cinematics , its like watching a bad movie . You go through fight 3 - 4 guys and then watch a movie for5 minutes . So repetitive , moves were weak , and gameplay was beyond poor . I honestly don't have anything good to say about this game . All I could say is forget about buying this game and buy Onimusha , now that's a game .

  • 072 4  It's fun beating people and robots up , but there are only about ten different enemies total . Some of the bosses seemed hard to me , but I'm not used to this kind of game . Even though I was slow , it only took me a couple hours to beat this . I was surprised when it ended , because it was so short . Not much of a world to explore , either . Nice scenes and there are cool moves , but I don't know if you have time to learn them all . Read the manual , too . It gives no explanations in the game , although you'll still figure it out . This is definitely a game to rent and not buy , unless you can buy it for very cheap .
    • 012 4  I am glad that I rented this game to try it out first . It's pretty much just a 2 hour movie , and you get to play the fight scenes . You get to choose the point of view that you experience the adventure from - thus revealing hidden secrets of the three different characters . Graphics are wonderful , but long and drawn out . If you die during a fight , you have to skipthrough many movie scenes to get back to where you were . The plot is a bit predictable and overdramatic . Don't be fooled : this is not really a Role Playing Game , you have to actually fight in live action , but you gain levels and special abilities as you go along . Overall : a fun game , but it wasn't even worth renting because I rented it for five days and I beat it in one sitting .
    • 028 4  squaresoft needs to stick to rpgs only . All you do is watch a movies , fight for 2 minutes , then watch a movie again , and then 45 minutes later the game is over . And the fighting sucks too , you just mash buttons and get double teamed . And you fight with two other guys , and if they kill enemies while you are not in control of them you dont get any experience . This game could have been so good , the characters and graphics are beautiful , but it seemed like squaresoft decided that gameplay did not matter at all . They could not pay me to play this game ever again . Worst game I ever played .
    • 032 4  The graphics look really good in this game , and the gameplay is pretty good . The plot is decent I guess , but the thing that bothered me most was that the game was so short . I had it on a three day rental and beat the game in a night and a little less than a day of playing . It's definitely worth a rental , but not quite worth purchasing .
    • 051 4  The game one of the most amazing graphics and movies I have ever seen . The Story isn't bad . One of the problems are that most of the game is movie . You don't get to fight that often though. But I would reccomend this game still since it's better than your average fighting game .
    • 075 4  Alright I have to be honest the graphics were great . It only took me 3 hours to beat the whole game and the plot is not the best. You proberly should just rent the game instead of paying half-price or fullprice .
    • 084 4  The Bouncer is a short game but not a bad won . I think people are expecting more of an action game but it's really more of a fighting game . Think of The Bouncer as a fighting but with more than one person to fight at a time .
    • 112 4  This game has great graphics but it just does not last long enough ! I beat the game in an hour and a half . The Battle royal mode is cool with friends . Overall , pretty average game

  • 087 4  The hardcore gamer may reject this game because it is too easy for them or because it is too short , but it is FUN for the average game player . It has great replay value , great graphics , and relatively easy controls . Maybe the acting is bad - - but almost all acting is bad on video games . This is a good game to own .
    • 049 4  This is the best game in the world . . . great graphics
    • 055 4  hell yeah this game was awesome . and this game has by far the best graphics ive ever seen .
    • 079 4  this game is good if u like action games.the fighting is good because every time before u go into battle u choose a charector.some other good things are the graphics and movies.but you might want to rent it first .
    • 085 4  This is a very nice game . The story mode is filled with excellent graphics . Though the story is short , it must be played multiple times to get the complete story . Also , after you finish the story mode , you can play against friends in the Versus mode . . . . yeah . . .

  • 099 4  The Bouncer is a very good playstation 2 game . But it lacks something , a good storyline . Most of the time Squaresoft makes their games have multiple cds . But this has only one , making the story mode altogether very short . It has great gameplay , and if you are a fighting game fan you will like this . But the problem with the fighting is the characters are slow , you barely notice it and eventually get used to it but it is not a genuine fighting game . But that doesn't take very much out of the game because you only notice it when you first play the game . The most annoying feature in the whole game is that you have to have playstation 2 controllers and memory cards , it won't take playstation ones . The good features about the game is first of all the GREAT graphics . It really represents the Playstation 2 ' s ability . Plus the graphics are almost as good in the fights as in the movies . Second , it has many secret characters . You really have to work to get all of them , though the last boss is really cheap when you have all your characters completely built up . Third , the AI is very good . But the most annoying and unannoying thing is how the AI reacts . In the boss battles they leave the boss alone , allowing you to defeat him so you get the battle points . Bad thing about it is it's like fighting the last boss alone . The best feature of the game is upgrading your characters . Each of the three starting characters has their own different moves that you can buy with bp ( battle points ) that you gain from defeating enemys in battle . Plus when your rank goes up ( a letter on the characters upper right that determines how good the character is upgrade wise ) the ranks of the enemy and the secret characters you have unlocked go up too , while adding better moves and stats . Another feature is multiplayer and survival mode . If all else fails to entertain you see how far you can get in survival mode . While multiplayer lets you play with your friends . Sadly the secret characters can only be used in these two . The interesting thing about multiplayer is there's battle royal and team battle . Battle royal is just a 1v1v1v1 battle that allows up to 4 human players , and anyone of those players you can make comps . Team battle is just like story mode . It is two player and each team has a team leader - the first and second players . Each player gets two computer allies . I recomend this game because it takes a while to get bored of , I ' ve played at least 15 hours and I'm still not bored of it . But I am playing other games too . THE MEMORY CARD IS A MUST HAVE FOR THIS GAME ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
    • 003 4  I bought the game on friday , messed around with a little , liked it . Saturday I sat down to play it and I ended up not only beating it but completing the whole game ( Unlocking all of the secrets ) . The game doesn't meet up to all of the hype . Yes , it is fun , you can play a one on one style fight with your friends ( Up to four at a time ) and the inbetween movies are visually amazing . Pro's - Very fun , good story to the game , Vs . Mode , survival mode , replay value after beating it is still pretty high , great graphics . Con's - Waaaaaaay too easy , you can probably beat the game using only one button , you can only use Dual Shock 2 controllers on it ( no psOne controllers work ) , same with the Multi Tap ( No PsOne ) , DEFINITELY NOT WHAT IT WAS HYPED AS . I would say to rent first , but then there will be no need to buy it . Hmmmmmm .
    • 005 4  In my opinion , this game isn't bad at all , BUT , it depends what kind of game you want to play . Best graphics I've seen in a game , although Shenmue was supposed to have good graphics too . Voiceovers can be very dramatic which is a good thing . Usual Squaresoft type of story line ( Save the world ) . It's not too bad , but it is very short . The real game lies in its multiplayer capabilities . There are two modes , Battle Royal ( 4 - player ) , which is basically a free-for-all , and a team battle ( 2 - player ) , you have to kill the opponent's leader before you die but you have 2 cpu's ( as does the opponent ) . The AI is INCREDIBLE in multiplayer . Survival unlocks a new outfit for Sion , not any use otherwise . Also , this game uses dual shock 2 controllers only , because it is pressure sensitive , so have some of those for multiplayer . In conclusion , SWEET MULTIPLAYER GAME , good storyline , good graphics , good sound , short and easy story mode . If you want a deeper , harder single-player mode , get Onimusha , otherwise , BUY THIS NOW !
    • 009 4  this game is ok . well first of all , there is no gameplay except for the fight scenes which are all pretty easy ( Dauragon 4 is the only character who puts up a fight ) . Square promised a lot with this game like being able to interact with the environment , but i've never been able to , oh say , pick up a chair or a pool stick and hurt the enemies . during some of the loading scenes , they show dialogue about the character's past which is really interesting , EXCEPT THAT THEY ONLY GIVE YOU 10 SECONDS TO READ THE WHOLE THING ! lastly , i beat the game with Kou in about an hour and 20 minutes , Sion in an hour and 20 minutes , and i beat it with Volt in an hour and 10 minutes ! now let's move on to the good points . this game probably has the best graphics on PS2 . the loading times are only about 10 - 15 seconds long and by doing certain requirements in story mode , you can unlock secret characters in the multiplayer mode . the multiplayer mode is also pretty good . the voices match the characters too . All in all , this game has great graphics , ok story , and little gameplay . i actually liked the game , but that only lasted about a week or two because i had totally beaten the game by then . if you want to take a chance , buy this game , but i suggest it as a rental because you can totally beat it in two days if you try . hope this has been helpful ( it seems to me that the people who designed these characters , also did FFVIII , seem to have lacking games . i really hope they don't mess up FFX ! )
    • 053 4  When I first read some reviews from magazines I was a little curshed . The game my heart was set on buying suddenly sucked . I just bought The Bouncer despit my doubts and was completely surprised . I dont know what they were talking about . THE GRAPHICS IN THIS GAME ARE THE BEST IN ANY VIDEO GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN ! I was in utter awe at the CG cinema effects and the actual game itself . You get to be in the hotseat of purely outstanding graphics and fun gameplay . This game adds to this somewhat fading genre and really serves as a flagship PS2 game . Don't hesitate in buying this game . Its fun , challenging and a graphical masterpiece
    • 081 4  Bouncer was hyped up to much and ended up to be a dissapointment for a lot of people . . . if you like games that are 85% of the time a movie then buys this , if you don't like that then don't buy it ! !
    • 089 4  this game is not worth paying for . i had more fun going to the dentist than playing this game . first of all , 75% of the game , you have to sit and watch the cinematics rather than playing . second of all , the gameplay was rather boring and repetitive .
    • 100 4  like all squaresoft games , bouncer doesnt dissapoint , BUY this game if u want a interactive movie . Thats the reason i bought it , and it was well worth my money .
    • 109 4  I bought this game because I had heard it was good . Big mistake . . . The graphics are excellent . The story line is okay but seems to remind me of some OLD school games ( like 3 guys going to look for the mayors ' daughter ) . Alot of the other characters are faster and you don't even turn around in time to fight back . Although if you put together combinations they are pretty cool . Another draw back is you can't continue if you lose you have to go all the way to the beginning and reload . One thing I thought also to be funny is they way they are dressed . . . Who wears that kind of ensemble . Bottom line for all gamers . PLEASE RENT BEFORE YOU BUY ! ! !
    • 110 4  The television advertisments , the magazine advertisements , the pure hype . At one point in time , The Bouncer was thought as the GAME to get for the PS2 . At one point in time , The Bouncer was a sure FIVE STAR , 95% game . At one point in time , Sony and Square actually had an idea . Unfortunately , at this point in time , The Bouncer [ has ] . . . Sticky controls , lame , unorginal gameplay ( reminisint of the Final Fight days , only Final Fight was better ) and freaky camera angles only make this BEAUTIFUL game worse . This game does boast some , if not the best graphics on the Playstation 2 to date , has very intriging characters , but these cons are just TOO MUCH to handle . Every five minutes , the game asks you to save after completing a stage , which gets annoying after the first few times it happens . Not only that , the game was WAY , WAY too short ! Quality over quanity is usually the saying in the game industry , but this time , it just doesn't work . The Bouncer should've stayed at home on Square's tables because they just didn't put enough effort , besides the brilliant graphics , into this game . A very dissapointing game from Square , maybe next time .

  • 104 4  Let me start off by saying this games story in my opinion is kind of stupid . The graphics are great just like every other ps2 game but there's not to much to this game . I mean I understand that its a fighting game and all but all you do is fight . It loads up the next level and you beat up about five or six guys and then it loads up the next level . Meanwhile your character stats are increasing . The only real challenge I got was from the boss of the game Duragon and that was because he's cheap . The game did however have a pretty decent multiplayer mode . When my friends and I got together and played we had a lot of fun and that is why I gave it three stars instead of one . The fact that is extremely short doesn't help either . Personally I wouldn't reccomend buying this game with out first renting it .
    • 018 4  This is an excellent looking game , probably the best looking game on the PS2 right now . But there is one major flaw to this game , Its way to short ! If you skip all the cinematics then you could probably beat it in less than an hour . But it has tons of replay value and the cinematics are unbelivable ! If you like fighting games and good graphics buy this game .
    • 019 4  The Best . This game is by far the best to come out on PS2 . It is so much different then any other game available . Who cares if the story is short ? I don't . It still keeps me entertained . And the characters are the bomb . Kou is tha man . Volt and Sion are cool too . Personally I think Sion is the better fighter , but Volt has better moves . This game is simply the best .
    • 036 4  I hated this game so much . When I bought the game i did notknow i was buying a . . . annimated movie for ps2 . Gamers i warm you for your sake don't buy this game . If i could i would not give this game one star .
    • 040 4  OK , I agree . It LOOKS wonderful ! But eye-candy isn't everything when it comes to great games . This is NOT a great game . This is an OK rental game , since it is easy to play . Re-play value stinks except to show your friends .

  • 107 4  What people don't realize is that the Bouncer is really a figthing game ( tekken , energiez , etc . ) taken to a whole new level . The game starts you out with three guys to choose from and then you get more on the way for the vs section . The best thing about this game is that you can improve the three main characters . Every time you beat somebody in the game you get points and you can improve your hp , defense , attack or learn new skills . Not only does your character improve in the game itself but also in the vs section . The storyline is definitely much better than most fighing games and since you have three charcters to choose from it has a great replay value . Not only that , but if you improved one character then switched when you played again the other characrter still has his new skills and everything . Plus if you beat the game differntly you get secret characters and other battlefields also develop in the vs mode . All in all this is a really cool game . The charcters are pretty cool and the specials aren't that bad ( however it will take you a long time to get all of the special moves for the main three charcters .
    • 023 4  This review is from : The Bouncer ( Video Game ) this was a very nice game to play . since story mode and survival mode are very fun and entertaining .
    • 035 4  Bouncer was the funnest game I ever got The multiplayer is real fun especially when you get your character to level S The story mode is real easy it takes 1 hour to beat ( including the movies wich are real cool ) but once you beat it you want to beat it again to get everybody better moves life defense and power also to see other peoples storylines this game rocks if you like multiplayer , movies , or fighting Kou rules !
    • 054 4  This review is from : The Bouncer ( Video Game ) hell yeah this game was awesome . and this game has by far the best graphics ive ever seen .
    • 063 4  This review is from : The Bouncer ( Video Game ) A great game with an interesting premise , as a bouncer and yet you get space travel and anamorphic people all in one !
    • 065 4  This review is from : The Bouncer ( Video Game ) But some things don't . The Bouncer , is just as good of a game as it was the year it came out ( in 2000 ) . The Bouncer is something totally different for those of us who like innovation and thought in our games . The Bouncer is a story driven fighting game . The story is honestly incredible . The story is told using the 3 main characters , but the catch is that the game must be beaten something near at least 10 times to get all of the story . Don't worry though , the game is pretty quick to play through each time ( 2 - 3 hours to play through ) . In the end , The Bouncer is one of my favorite games ever made . The story is incredibly well written , the gameplay is a blast , and the replay is limitless . Pick up The Bouncer today .
    • 069 4  This review is from : The Bouncer ( Video Game ) Who cares if this game is too short . As long as the game has decent graphics , gameplay , and sound . And I really enjoy playing survival mode which is fun and enjoyable .
    • 071 4  The Bouncer is an auesome game where Sion Barzahd ( not Hazard like that other dome review says ! ! ) and his buddys Volt Krueger and Kou Leifou ( Hurst ) go on a rescue mission to get Dominique Crossfrom the evil clutches of the Mikado Group. This game is extremely good except for 2 things : 1 . too short 2 . once you get to the garden or on the galeos , its really hard too see.otherwise though , this game rocks ! ! ! ! i thought this game was about bouncing up and down at first ( i was only 8 ! ) until next time , kenny > _
    • 101 4  Though this is a fighter game , first for squaresoft , its still one of the best game for PS2 making PS2 even more worth to buy . Though it only takes me now 30 - 60min to beat i still dont get bored with , if u're looking to buy a new PS2 game , get this one , it has good cut scenes with the great option of skipping them if u dont want to see them , 3 starting characters with each having about 6 moves to learn with the Bouncer Points u get while playing the game , characters and levels to unlock with playing the game with different characters , and much much more ! = )
    • 111 4  This game is terrible . There is only like 1 and a half hours of gameplay , and like 4 hours of cutscenes . The combat system is no good , you can only do about 5 moves with each character ( 3 ) . The storyline is terrible . A girl gets kidnapped and you have to go rescue her . The only good part about this game is the graphics . Bottomline is don't bother with this game , don't even rent it .

  • MOVIE ELEMENTS , add to a very engaging story . Must be all the wrong people playing this game . . . although I doubt it . ' The Bouncer ' has beautiful graphics , with amazing character movement ( right on par with Final Fantasy X ) - whether running , kicking , punching . . or flopping onto the ground when someone punched or kicked you too many times . ; ) Very realistic . The real time battle system is easy , fun , and in my opinion , very addictive ! Pressure sensitive set-up in the buttons means you can execute at least 4 - 5 moves , all of different calibur , right when you start the game ! And that's before you've even gotten a chance to customize your three characters yet . And each character has a fighting style all their own , and customizable Life , Power and Defense as well as half a dozen new moves you can have them learn with the ' Bouncer Points ' they glean when you them in battle . Sion is a street-style , kung fu kinda guy , with a lot of use of the legs in hard hitting , less graceful way.Volt Krueger , his pal , and another bouncer at the bar , has to be one of the strongest and blatantly obvious toughest guy in your trio , one I find myself picking all the time to fight out the Versus Modes ( get to that later ) . His style is a mix of wrestling ( ? ) , combined with some of his own moves . Which includes a four decker punch move , a double low kick , ( and a stomp and kick move that really isn't at all fair to the enemy ! ) . . and much more . Kou Leifoh , another heavily tatooed dude in the party , backs up his smart mouth with his own style of martial arts . Using his legs a lot , with swift , painful results . With moves like ' Triple Roundhouse Kick ' and such . You get the idea . Plus , as the game goes along , you will be able to unlock other people ( mainly enemies ) , you can fiddle around with later . Ah , and the marvellous story . Enthralling , and much like a choose your own adventure , this is one cool story worth watching three times ( if you wanna know it all , you got to play ALL three characters three seperate times ) . Which won't be a hassle , if you love the game as much as I do . The bad guy is sneery and believable , his motives are . . well , obviously , bad ( well duh ) but not overly ridiculous . He has power and means to do what he will with it . . whether or not it really benefits him or anyone else . Anyway , and for all those whining about how the boss fights are easy and the bosses aren't overly hard , get your butts into versus mode , and stop whining and pit all the hardest bosses against you and your party of weakies . That oughta challenge you a bit . Try the 2nd version Mugetsu , with the third version Dauragon and PD - 4 . Or have two Mugetsu's . Or two Dauragon's against you . Challenging enough yet ? Keep trying . Versus mode is where you get to use all those characters you unlocked , you get to fight against them , have them fight with your selected character , or just duke it out with EVERYONE . Music is excellent too . I must confess to buying the soundtrack not very long after getting the game . : D Rent it ! Do something ! !
    • 001 4  In my honest opinion , this game probably has one of the best graphics and sound available today . Let's start with the graphics and sound . Graphics is exactly as expected with a Squaresoft title ( creators of Final Fantasy ) . The pictures were beautifully rendered and characters look so nice . It has great cut scenes and an interesting story plot to it . There is a dolby digital 5.1 selection within the game options menu , but it's really a pitiful job by Squaresoft in that aspect of it . When the dolby digital 5.1 does take effect in certain parts of the scenes ( story part ) , it is amazing . It truly could have been awesome but I was disappointed as the majority of the game really is just in dolby surround mode . The actual game play is purely in dolby surround mode . In fact , there is probably more story than actual gameplay . If you're looking for a game with lots of pure action , this game may not be the one for you . Gameplay is extremely short . I finished this game within 3 - 4 hours in the story mode . The story is interesting at first , but when you replay it , you'll more than likely skip all the story plots and go straight to the fights . Without the plots , you probably could finish this game in 30 - 45 minutes . It does have good replay value as each character has a different ending to it . After certain battles you will gain points to increase characters strength , stamina , defense , and other special moves . So in order to increase a character to maximum power in everything possible , you will need to finish it twice using the same character . Since this is the only game that has dolby digital 5.1 ( at least they attempted it ) , I rated it quite high . I love the graphics , sound , story and actual gameplay . I just don't think it is worth paying that much to play a game that doesn't seem to last that long . I have extremely mixed feelings toward this game . It's a love - hate relations type of game . This is the first game that I have such mixed feelings . It's worthy to keep but yet when you think about it , you really don't feel like keeping it . It does make good for showing off your playstation 2 potentials . Okay , to answer your question . Is it worth buying ? I suggest you rent this game prior to buying it or buy it from a store which will allow returns .
    • 002 4  Yes , the Story mode is short and leaves something to be desired . But there's more to The Bouncer than just the story mode . Once you've gone through that mode with all three main characters , you've unlocked a ton of fighters to use in the Vs . and Survival modes . There are over 10 unique characters in all , and that isn't counting the multiple Mugetsus and Dauragons . They each have loads of moves , and the system is truly fresh and fun : it utilizes the Dualshock2 ' s analog buttons . Pressing an attack button soft or hard will activate different attacks . It took a little getting used to , but soon it felt completely natural . It was great fun to figure out as many various combos as I could . The battles in story mode are usually pretty brief , and they seem even more so when sandwiched between two long cinemas . If you want long battles , go into Vs . mode . If you don't have anyone to play against , that's OK , because the enemy AI in this game is incredible . Many times I've had a single round in a 4 - way brawl last well over five minutes before a winner is finally declared . I had to set the timer to infinite , because there is no victor if the time runs out before there is a last man standing . 120 seconds just isn't enough in a good 4 - way . There's a staggering number of different character combinations you can put into a battle . If 4 - way is too much for you , you can configure it to 3 - way . And if you set it to 1 - on - 1 , you've got a traditional fighting game that easily holds its own against Tekken , DoA , Tobal , etc . Of course , you get the usual alternate costumes for each character ( I think they all have at least four ) and selectable locations . Story mode is fun a few times , but to me , the real meat of The Bouncer is the Vs . mode . I can already tell that I'll be playing this for years to come . Take it from a seasoned Tekken / Tobal veteran , there is a LOT of excellent fighting to be done in The Bouncer even long after you've finished story mode .
    • 004 4  Is The Bouncer worth purchasing ? , is the main question that has to be answered . Read my review and draw your own conclusions . This game is no doubt one of the most technologically advanced games to ever be released . The graphics are beautiful , each character has it's own distinctive look and style , the backgrounds are also some of the best in a game , and the enemy models hold up well . There's no question from the time you pop in the Bouncer , you'll be hooked by the graphics and also the storyline . The storyline is excellent . A terrorist group called Mikado kidnaps a young girl at a bar and the bouncers have to infiltrate the Mikado headquarters and reclaim her . It unfolds very well and the replay value is high thanks to three very seperate endings , one for each character . The gameplay may not be the future of beat ' em ups such as this though . Winning battles doesn't take skill , just well timed button mashing . Also , the actual gameplay doesn't take up more than 25 - 30 minutes . The other hour or so is owned by cinemas . So there's your problem-the game is way too short . The replay value is high as I said , but putting it into perspective , it's only four hours or so of gameplay anyways . I beat this game three times in two days . By then I was sick of it . We'll come back to this topic later . The controls are okay . It's easy to move your character around and the menus are navigable . But as I said , the primary facet to fighting is mashing buttons . There is however one redeeming quality though-pressure sensitivity . This is a cool idea and I'd like to see it used in more games . As far as having fun goes , I can guarantee you you'll love the Bouncer for the short time you're playing it . It's just a fun game to play . But . . . the underlying problem rears its ugly head again . The game is too short . If I could give you a recommendation it would be to rent it , play it , love it , and return it . You don't want to spend . . . dollars on one hour and thirty minutes . But if you're just dying to have this game , it may be worth a purchase , but as much as I'd like to , I can't recommend it .
    • 006 4  And when I say short , I'm not even complaining . This game is awesome , and I think it's a shame everybody flames it like they do . Y'know , there is more to a game then just kicking some guys . . . Graphics , story-and , agh ! The dreaded word : MOVIE ELEMENTS , add to a very engaging story . • 007 4  When I first picked up a copy of Bouncer I was astounded by its graphics . Unlike most games that I have played for any system , save wing commander , the games are designed around an intensive combination of button mashing and timing . The Bouncer on the other hand relies on plot and superb graphics . This game could easily have been released as an anime with no playability to speak of . As it is it is almost this without any real changes . The game plot is a single linear plot starting three main characters that are pulled into a search to try and rescue a mutual friend . As the game continues you are able to select between which of the three you wish to play . Each character has their own fighting style , power levels , and story lines . Don't discount one because they are weaker than the other it is easy to purchase increased abilities and new techniques to level the playing field . As for control and playability this game is developed around a three-button attack system with the strength that you press the button down determining the force that your character puts behind each attack . It takes a while to get used to and doesn't serve any real purpose but is fun to play with . Also remember to use the analogue controller to move around otherwise you won't be able to run . I would recommend this game for anyone that is interested in watching a movie , and would suggest that others be hesitant . There is very little playability to the game and reacts very similarly to Double Dragon for the Nintendo , but with better graphics . A great game to play but with such a short time line to follow and few tracks to follow the game could only keep me interested for a day , so its probably best to rent it .
    • 010 4  The truth is . . . this is the shortest and possibly worst game I've seen since Resident Evil Survivor . It plays out the same all the time . All you ever do is fight . You watch a movie play ( which by the way takes advantage of the DVD features ) , then you battle . What's up with that ? This game is also short . You can beat the game in 30 minutes at the least . Unless you watch all the movie sequences , it'll only take you that long . It takes 2 hours watching it . This game could've been so much better if you did something besides fight , and if they have a movie after every battle . They had one part that made it seem action / adventure like . Other than that , the game is too short to buy so you should rent it . The game is also to easy to need a players guide ( but I got one anyway ) . I was actually disappointed with it . Being that since it was SQAURESOFT I thought I could count on a good game , but now I know never to go by the creators again . Just rent the game . WAYYYYYYYYY to short and easy to buy .
    • 011 4  This is a weird game . I bought it even though i heard it really wasn't worth buying , and i am still on the fence with that in my own head . The graphics are just amazing , but its squaresoft so that is expected . It's definitely the best graphics yet on the PS2 , that i have seen . The storyline is pretty good , the more i play it the more i get into it . The reason though it only gets 3 stars from me is that there is a lack of gameplay in it . It's a lot of movies and very little fighting . And when you do fight the controls are extremely easy but the camera blows . There are quite a few times that the camera is facing you and the enemies are behind the camera , you have to stumble blindly into them at times . If and when the game goes down in price i recommend it , but if you are looking for a fighter with a LOT of replay value get DOA2 or Tekken Tag ( if not just for the bowling game ) .
    • 013 4  This game is a mix between Squaresoft's fighting system used in Ehrgeiz , today's best Cinematic's technoligies , and the great storyline quality from Final Fantasy . This game is definatly worth getting . It has a great replay value . A must for all PS2 owners .
    • 015 4  This game was highly anticipated and the fact that it has not lived up to its initial expectations ( hey , this is a SQUARE game - Final Fantasy ! ! ! ) has probably caused it to be bashed unfairly . If you were a fan of final fight or double dragon , this game might be right up your alley . It is definitely built more for a novice gamer than the hardcore crowd . Gameplay is simple and the graphics are incredible - probably the best on the system right now . In story mode you join your two friends to take on a group of terrorists and save a girl ( very old school ) . There are only a couple frustrations with the game . First is length - it takes about 1 hour of gameplay ( or 3 hours in all with a bunch of cut scenes ) to play through the game . Secondly , there is a limit to how much satisfaction you take in you and your 2 buddies beating the daylights out of a single enemy you have surrounded . Thirdly , there is an interesting feature that when you get clocked esp . hard it knocks your controller out of analog mode . This causes numerous occassions where you get beat up while lying around . You do get used to it eventually but . . . Finally , the gameplay itself is pretty repetitive . The Bouncer walks a strange line . If it wasnt for the graphics , the interesting story and the old school gameplay I would probably give it a 1 . On the other hand , if it wasnt for the repetitive nature of the game , mediocre characters and the lack of options / replay value the game would be a 5 . Rarely has a game had such high highs and low lows . In the end it is a solid game for newbies to check out their PS2s with .
    • 016 4  I read that this game was really short and it was . Shorter than I even anticipated , actually . I rented it and beat it within an hour a half . Also , I only died like 2 or 3 times . . so it's really easy . You can get through the game just running around hitting one button ( use triangle to punch ) . It takes absolutely no skill to beat this game . OK , now that I've basically trashed it , I'll say what's good about it . The graphics are great . Without a doubt the graphics are some of the best I've seen in a video game . However , just having good graphics doesn't make a game good . Zelda 1 has horrible graphics and I still consider that one of the best games ever . Anyway , the game reminds me a lot of Final Fight that was in the arcades years ago . Picture that game with better graphics and it being a lot easier to beat . Then throw in some movies every other minute . That's another thing I don't like . If I wanted to watch a movie , I'd do exactly that . When I playing a game , I want to play it . This game is basically fight 3 guys , watch a movie , fight 3 guys , watch a movie , over and over again til you beat it in less than an hour and a half . Anyways , definitely rent this game before you buy it .
    • 021 4  This game could be better but it doesn't have to be for five stars . You can definitly beat this game within an hour but that's only one time . You'd have to beat it three times for each characters story and seven times for the full story to come together . The controls are easy to use no matter how new to video games you are . The game also has an rpg feel as you get battle points to raise your ability points . The story is interesting if nothing else and the game has a movie-like feel . It's even more like a movie then Metal Gear Solid especially with it's beautiful graphics and life-like characters . The battles are real-time and with two computer characters helping the game is not over challenging like Tenchu ( great game but really challenging . . . Still beat it though ) . The two player mode is the most addictive part of the game . You can play with two computer helpers against a friend or a computer . There's also rumble mode in which you fight against three others in a free-for-all . The stages of play are great and there are plenty of hidden characters to earn in story mode which is quite a helper for replay value . With a multi-tap you can have four players against each other in rumble mode which makes for a great party mode in fact the fighting game could've been THE game instead the movie like one but that's no problem . The problem with it is there is no two player team play in story mode . None in the fighting mode either . This is a small problem though . Even with the factors of three different story-lines and hidden characters the game still is fairly quick but it serves as a party game still . The only other thing is that survivor mode . . . Overall the game is close to perfect . Movie-like angles and storylines . It has a little romance and lot's of action and drama . The graphics are better then even Shenmue and the fighting mode is extremely fun . So definitly buy this game !
    • 025 4  Okay , so the game is only a little longer than one hour . That i have to put it down for but only because its really fun ! Ofcourse you can always play it again and again until you've completely leveled everyone up to their full potential and seen every different storlyline possible . . . which is what i did . The graphics are awsome , as expected from squaresoft . The character designs are also very nice to look at . The storyline itself is about Sion saving his love who is actually a robot from the enemy , Duragon C . Mikado . ( i might have spelled that wrong ) The control system is simple and easy . Ofcourse its always fun to be sion and use your punch move multiple times giving the effect that your juggling the person in the air . But thats not all . . you can also combine everyone and do one move , some of them . . . . well you wouldn't want to be the enemy ^ _ ^ The best part is that when you've defeated a set of enemies . . . usually security , robots , and the other ppl . . who are evil , you earn points that you can use to learn a new move , or strength , or defense . You want to even it out but its really fun and easy . I'd reccomend this game to someone who just wants an easy time , its not at all challenging which is probably why many people didn't give it all its stars but i think its just a good time . . .
    • 026 4  Boot-up of SquareSoft's The Bouncer shows that even a few short months after the Playstation 2 has become available , developers are making games that look great , meaning that even more great looking games are yet to come . Unfortunately , The Bouncer looks amazing , but that's mainly what you do in this game - look . The graphics , both foreground and background are completely amazing . The character designs are first-rate , with details adding to the realism , like the wisps of hair that bounce around on Sion's head , to the spiked horns sprouting from Volt's head . The emotions revealed through facial expression are great , but I really felt that I was watching a movie , rather than a PS2 game . Intros ranged from a few seconds to several minutes . They were great to watch , but as the game progressed , they became longer while the parts where having a controller in-hand became shorter . When the controller was in-hand , fighting enemies , the fighting isn't much ahead of Final Fight , or even as far back as the Double Dragon series . While you did have the incentive of beating them to see some more breath-taking scenes , the more you play , the less you want to watch , or even play . Additionally , the camera angles often were pretty bad , with you running toward the camera , making it impossible to see where the enemies were up ahead . There were also times in the subway scene , where you're running aimlessly to keep ahead of the closing doors and out of the times I did , it never got caught once . There was little challenge here . I think they were included so they could add more time to what was actually interactive on this title . Had I bought this one , I'd be sorely disappointed , because a DVD action movie has a cheaper price tag . SquareSoft incorporated Dolby Digital 5.1 sound during the cinematic scenes and it sounds wonderful , but again , the Matrix is cheaper and more entertaining . The game isn't even that challenging . I've beat the game with one character within a couple hours of booting it up and am working through with another , but the storyline really doesn't change enough ( there are parts , but it's just not enough ) for this one to be worth much more than a couple hours of play . The local used game store had several copies of it , and now I see why . There's little replay value in this one . The Bouncer really makes a good showoff piece for the PS2 , but SquareSoft forgot about putting some game in there . If the cut scenes had ended up having more actual game play in between , it'd be a must-have for the PS2 collection , but as it is , it's a maybe-rent .
    • 027 4  When I wanted to buy the Bouncer . I read every review everywhere else , and just knew I had to have it . This game rocks ! I absoloutly love it ! Smooth animation , great script and voice acting ( Sion aside . . . ) . It's a classic Squaresoft gem . I hope it slowly becomes sleeper hit , and kicks the BUTTs of all the games people claim it can't . And can't forget the music . The game would be nothing without those guitar cranking tunes that just get you right into the fight . As for the movie part of it , I say A + + + ! ! all the way . For those people who say it's all movie and no fight , all I have to say is , see those yellow letters on the back of the case . . yes , ' Play the Action Movie ' . It does MEAN something here ! Easy controls , fun fighting styles for all the characters , I can't tell you when I'll put this game down , because I've been playing this game ever since I got it , ( with a few exceptions ) , and still love it just as much now ( or more ) , as I did when I got it . One of my absoloute favorites .
    • 030 4  My friend and I rented this game over vacation , thinking that it would be great . The graphics looked cool and the story sounded interesting . Yes these were both true , but I think we got 30 minutes of game play througout the whole game . The rest were movies . So now jockingly we say to each other , hey lets go watch the bouncer . It is fun to watch , but I wish that there was more playing time .
    • 033 4  Boot-up of SquareSoft's The Bouncer shows that even a few short months after the Playstation 2 has become available , developers are making games that look great , meaning that even more great looking games are yet to come . Unfortunately , The Bouncer looks amazing , but that's mainly what you do in this game & #8212 ; look . Even though the fights are few and far between , it still gets old pretty quick . ( . . . )
    • 038 4  . . . and the Bouncer definitely hits bottom and not only does it not bounce , it then proceeds to tunnel through the earth and emerge in a strange and boring land . Instead of playing Bouncer , you might want to just hold your controller and watch cartoons - - you'll experience about the same amount of interaction but the stories and animation will be a lot better .
    • 042 4  For many of us , there isn't a whole lot of time in our lives to spend playing a console game . Games like Final Fantasy , Chrono Trigger , or Legend of Zelda are fantastic , no doubt giving us many many hours of wonderful entertainment . . . but for those who grow bored easily , sometime after 40 hours on the first disk tends to make us a little hesitant to finish the whole game . I for one have a low attention span , and while I absolutely love the above mentioned games I've yet to finish any of them because of their length . So , games like The Bouncer or Onimusha , which are shorter but just as intense , really appeal to me . For this one , the whole story was really cool , a lot like watching a movie with spurts where you can battle the bad guys ( whose moves have a short learning curve , so you're not clueless as to how to fight if you've not played something like this before ) . There are three main characters , all of whom are bouncers at a particular bar . Most of the reviews go into who they are , but one of the really neat options is that you can really get to know each character's background and mindset individually depending on whether you choose to play them in whatever fight you do ; they have small blurbs at the end , or in the FMV sequence afterwards where your chosen , in that turn , battle character lets you into a secret . For example , in the very first battle if you choose the tattooed bouncer you get to hear both sides of a phone conversation , plus see and extra part of the FMV later on , but if you choose another you think he's just having a nice phone chat . anyway , I only rented it but I think that I'll be going out and buying this one . It's an easy way to blow off steam , plus has some cool sequences and one-liners , depending on who you choose to fight . : ) I recommend it for stress relief , but I really like the fact that it's shorter than the average it-takes-two-weeks-to-beat game . It means that I may actually get to the end for once ! : - )
    • 043 4  I should start out with saying that this game is not a traditional game from Squaresoft , it is like a jazzed up version of Streets of Rage or something . It has many good things about it , and many bad things . First off , graphics are amazing , and dialog sounds different instead of having that robotic sound to it . By all means this is a great game , it's got story , it's pretty fun , and it has the hugest replay value of any game ever . However , the game is extremely short , about an hour or two , depending if you skip movies or not . And after beating the game a few times , the only fun thing to do is battle it out with a few of your freinds . I would like to have seen more RPG elements in this game , instead of movies then fighting . If you want to showoff your playstation 2 , or you have some freinds to fight with , then this game is for you . However , if you are more of an RPG-er and not much for just battle games , then just rent the game first .
    • 045 4  First I would like to say this is a great game . I personally do not think it's a short game . Maxing your stats , watching all the different endings , and unlocking all the hidden characters is a lot to do . The thing I really liked about this game was the graphics and sound . Wonderfully done special attacks , the enviroments was outstanding . The 5.1 surround sound implemented in the game was great , I was amazed especially in the first FMV . The thing I wish they had done was made the enviroments more interactive .
    • 046 4  Lets get on with the good things about this movie , great graphics and nice cinemas ( hence the two stars and not one star ) . Now that thats out of the way lets get on with everything wrong about this game . I completed the game in less then a hour , majority of that time was watching very excellent cinemas ; but really if I wanted to watch cinemas I would have rented a movie that could go twice as long as this so-called movie . The big problem I have with this game ( or movie ) , is how much time I actually had of playing time . It was very little ! Twenty minutes of gameplay is not worth fifty bucks . I suggest you just rent this one .
    • 047 4  I read the other reviews and I agree with them . It only took me about an hour to beat this game one time through . I was expecting something much much more . The movie sequences are great , as are the actual playing graphics , but too much time is wasted on the movies . Please rent this game before you purchase it ( if you even do . )
    • 048 4  This is a great game - good game play and incredible graphics . I have to give it that . But it lacks replay value and is WAY TOO short . Casual gamers will enjoy it but those of who prefer longer , more detailed games with find it boring and again , very short . I was able to finish the game the first I sat down to play it . Read the other reviews and then rent it before buying it .
    • 056 4  A lot of fun . . . that's how I would sum up The Bouncer . The most amazing thing about this game is the graphics . They simple amaze me every time I see them . This is by far the best graphics I've seen on a game yet . Sitting and watching my brother play the game reminded me of watching a movie . Well , not a hit movie , but definately one worth watching . The story could have used a little bit of work . The sound , however , is not as great . It's not bad by any means , but there is definately no one song that really catches your attention . The music can sometimes make or break a game . It's a good thing that the music in The Bouncer was no worse than it is ! The voice acting isn't too bad . . . but it might get on some people's nerves . I've never really had problems with american voice actors . The gameplay is a little bit of a problem with this game . If you enjoy hitting random buttons and praying that you win , you'll have no problem with this game . I believe that to be the biggest drawback of this game . From the begining of the game , I just started pounding buttons , and I got about half-way through it . Games aren't supposed to be like that . Of course , I still had fun just beating up on guys . If you're like me , you won't mind the gameplay . The only other things that really bring this game down are the requirement for PS2 controllers and a PS2 multitap . I'm definately not buying the multitap . I did , however , purchase another PS2 controller . When it comes to multiplayer fun , however , I say it is best to stick with the people who do that best . . . Nintendo . I'd also like to say that this game is pretty short . Perhaps renting it would be a better option . . . but I'd still like to have it in my collection just so that I could beat up on something every now and then . : )
    • 057 4  The Bouncer is your typical Squaresoft game , which means you'll get awesome graphics , a cool storyline , interesting characters , and a lot of emotion . The best way to describe this game is that it's a brawling martial arts form of a Final Fantasy game . The graphics are top notch , with fluid and smooth animation , along with well made transitions and character models ( the in-game graphics often are more awe inspiring than the FMV due to the high level of character detail ) . The control scheme is simple and easily learned , but can cause some confusion and difficulty when facing off against a multitude of opponents . My main complaint with the controls is that ALL of the specials are far too easy to do . The music is overall pretty good . It could've been better , but it's passable , and helps build things up . The only problem with the music is that sometimes is sounds as if it came out of a B-movie . The English dubb is okay . If you're a fan of the anime scene , you'll recognize some of the voice-talents . The voice-actor for Sion Bharzhad seemed as if he was forcing some of the emotion in order to be dramatic ( this is NOT good . As with film , emotion needs to come naturally to seem realistic ) . I prefer the Japanese voice-over simply because the voices are cooler . The key feature of this game is its story-mode , which has the three heros going toe to toe against the Mikado corporation , being led by the vengeful Duragaun Cross Mikado , who is not only an intelligent leader , but a powerful fighter . As the story unfolds , the character backgrounds and their emotions , such as how they are and what makes them tick , becomes known . As with the majority of SquareSoft games , the player will quickly feel as if he / she personally knows the characters . The character designs are amazing , with their appearance vividly portraying their personalities . The story mode is also the best point of the game because , while it may be short compared to an RPG , you can play through it multiple times , and easily accumilate over seven hours of playtime , and still be finding new cut-scenes and character info . My final problem , supprisingly , is with the story-mode . Several parts of the story are unclear and require thinking to figure out ( if you wish to fully understand the game ) . Some parts of the story may be confusing and leave some people going what ? But that's okay . Generally , when a person reads info about a game or glances at the back of the box , they will know if the game is one in which they will like . If you're looking for a challenging game with a great story that doesn't grow old too quickly , give this game a try . And for everyone who has a PS2 , please , at least rent it once ! It's worth it .
    • 058 4  I honestly do not know if short is the word to describe this game . The actual gameplay is very short . The fights only last about a minute to two minutes , but they are fun , if a little easy . The problem with the game is the cinema . Although the graphics are quite impressive , the cinemas are too long and too frequent . After every fight there is a short pointless cinema ( I would have snapped the game in half if it wasn't for the skip button ) , which i personally think did not enhance the story , which is actually pretty stupid . The combanation of these two factors can be annoying . The first time i played through the game it took me about three hours because of the cinemas . Once i skipped the cinemas it only took half an hour . I had the game beaten with every secret character unlocked in two , maybe three , days . What levels the story mode out is the multiplayer mode . With about 15 differant characters and two types of modes it kept me and my friends busy for a while , but like most fighting games it can get boring . I would suggest renting this game before buying it , just to make sure you don't get sick of it in a week .
    • 059 4  OK , people nag the short games . They don't last long enough or They don't get any harder as you go along . One : It lasts a LONG time on your third or fourth time you play Story , because you have to face a much harder , tatooed Dauragon , and with having already fought him twice without regaining health , that's hard . Two : The enemys get harder each time you beat it . So it DOES get harder . Does ANYONE pay attention to the story's actual meaning ? Do you even remember which one is Volt , which is Sion , and which is Kou ? Story mode is by far the best story I've heard of in a game . It starts with Mikado Special Forces ( led by Mugetsu ) capturing Sion's girlfriend Dominique . You go through some fourteen levels , a few of which are one-player ( not active character select [ meaning who you picked earlier is who you are for the short while ] ) like level 9 , when ou split up . I took Kou through this first , and you have to match the enemy's signals ( i.e . if they do the square motion , you have to press square . ) . If you don't you fight . Then I took Sion . He looks on a computer , and finds out that an old friend of his , Kaldea Orchid ( the black panther ) , is a bionoid and was expiremented on when she was younger . Then he finds out that Dominique is a project , but to get further info he needs a password , and MSFs and MSF elites turn up . Anyway , you finnaly battle your way past Volt's old friend Echidna twice , Dauragon a minimum of three , sometimes four , and Mugetsu three times . Congrats , you've beaten the game . The question is , though , are you ranked S ? If not , go through it again . Do it until all your characters are S ( including those you unlock in Story Mode [ they go up each time you beat it . I.E . They go from A-S in one story . ] ) That's what I did anyway . I hate people nagging the short games . See Ya .
    • 060 4  As previously stated , the graphics in this game are awesome and remind me why I bought a PS2 in the first place . Unfortunately , that is almost all this title has going for it . One aspect of this game that really annoyed me was the fact that you were forced to follow the correct path . If you walked past the door you were supposed to take , you were pulled through . There was no mystique or difficulty in this game . After a few tries I got the fighting method down to a science . Block when the opponent is attacking and attack when he relents . The graphics in the movies are very sharp , but there are far too many movies . This game takes no real skill to beat . You don't need a guidebook to beat it , unlike Resident Evil although that is a bad comparison . One interesting feature of the game is the fact that you get to constantly change characters . If the fighting was more similar to Tekken this game would be worth the 50 bucks I spent on it . So if you want a game that will last awhile and is consistently challenging , do not buy this . If , however , you want a game that demonstrates how superior the graphics are on PS2 , then pick this game up immediately
    • 061 4  Don't get me wrong - - I love Square's Final Fantasy RPG's and was one of the few loyal defenders of the Square / Dream Factory fighter Ehrgeiz . So I'm strongly inclined to like this RPG'ish slug-fest . But oh my gosh , is this awful . The gameplay here is a variation on old-school beat-em-ups ( use simple fighting moves to dispatch hordes of drones , move forward through a level , fight a boss , yada yada yada ) . The controls are similar to Ehrgeiz and the Tobal games : full 3 - D movement , high / middle / low attack buttons , a simple block button . But there are few combos , the fighting and movement feels slow , and there's some genuine cheapness to the bosses . . . blech ! The graphics , both in-game and cinematics , are wonderful - - in fact , the visuals created by the game engine are often as good as the pre-rendered stuff . And the story , for what it is ( sci-fi action fodder ) , is perfectly agreeable . But you can't help but think that the presentation is where all the development time went - - busy as they were with all the visuals , somone forgot to make sure the thing was fun to play . The core of the game is a story-mode , billed on the package as Play the action movie ! . More like watch some stuff , play a little , watch more , play a little . What's really painful is when you die in a particularly hard battle , you have to go back to the title screen , reload your game from the memory card , and watch or skip however many movie-scenes transpired between that save-point and the fight you want to restart ( you'll also suffer the loading-screen between these skipped movie scenes ) . You can literally play for 30 seconds , die , and spend 5 minutes getting back to where you were . Beyond the story-mode , there's a 4 - person slug-fest and a survival mode , neither as engaging as similar modes in real fighting games like DOA2 . Despite the awesome presentation , this isn't even as good as Dynasty Warriors 2 , Koei's far less ambitious PS2 beat-em-up . At least that game could keep the action going for longer than two minutes without becoming boring or stopping for a loading screen . I'd love it if Square's Final Fantasy X had the production values of The Bouncer . . . but I hope it has the gameplay of Chrono Cross instead of this ambitous train-wreck .
    • 066 4  But some things don't .
    • 078 4  I won't deny it , I had pretty low expectations coming into this game . Let's face it , there hasn't been a good team / fighting / action adventure game since games like River City Ransom , Double Dragon and even Streets of Rage but I have to admit , this game wasn't all that bad . The graphics were decent . Nothing really jumps out and goes dang , that's cool . The gameplay is pretty straight forward , you pick your character , you fight bad guys and the fights are pretty simple . None of the enemies I faced were astoundingly difficult or completely dead weight opponents that you could give a love tap with your index finger and their head would explode . The only thing that really bothered me about this game is that it was too vast in it's story and I couldn't follow it . Either I was bored with the story or I was just interested in handing out the smackdowns . But anyway , fair game . Give it a shot . Have fun !
    • 083 4  Well , when I see Square's mark on a game I usually buy it because I never saw a bad squaresoft game . . . I guess that in this case the exception marks the rule ! This game is a supped-up beatem up where you spend more time looking at your character ( s ) in fmv than actually playing ! The controles are OK and once you learn how to get the enemy stuck in one corner of the srceen you can finish the game VERY easely . I think that it is not even worth the bother talking about it , but hey . . . one has to warn others not to do the same mistake . Tekken Tag is still the best beatem up on PS2 OK it does not have a RPG style but hey , the story in The Bouncer is Sooooo bad you want even mind . DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME !
    • 086 4  Although it is a short game you get what you paid for . because this is a fighting game . . . the type of game you would play with friends . Although it has a storyline ( a good one ) and although it is a total of 30 - 40 minutes of playtime , it doe snot matter because the nonstop playing will come from the instant fighting with friends and not the story mode .
    • 088 4  This game looks fantastic . It's visually stunning and works the PS2 ' s capabilities to a great extent . The sound and cinematics are nice too . . . . but that's about where the fun stops . This is a brawling game where you get to pick one of three fighters in single-player mode . The controls are limited and clumsy ( but the buttons are pressure sensative , which is kind of cool ) . There's not much in the way of skill here . . . mash mash mash , you know ? I was excited about this game , but got instantly bored when I played it for the first time . Thank goodness there's a return policy at Babbages . Don't buy this one . It's short and boring . . and pretty slow . Not good for a fighter / brawler .
    • 090 4  The story begins at a bar as a bouncer named Sion is beginning his shift for the day . A quiet morning is abruptly interrupted when a break-in occurs and the intruders manage to kidnap Sion's friend Dominque . This begins a dangerous rescue mission , as Sion and his fellow bouncers travel far and wide in search of Dominique's kidnappers . This is the setup to one of the sweetest looking games to come out in a long time . That's right , Bouncer produces some of the most astonsing visiuls ever . The graphics are topnotch and all the cinamas happen in real time . . . cool stuff . While the graphics are good , the major flaw comes with the gameplay . Its mindless button massing , nothing more . The game could be beat by press one button the entire time . This causes the game to get boring and repetive , thus making you want to turn off the game . If the gameplay was good I wouldn't have mind playing it for its 2 hour playtime . Yep , 2 hours , and that's it . The game is way to short witch could be good or bad depending on how you look at it . Good side , you don't have to play this bad game that long to beat it and you could also beat it in the time you rent it . Bad side , its only 2 hours long . . . . not worth the money at all . So in the end , you could rent it and beat it just to see the graphics but other than that you could advoid it all together .
    • 091 4  It is a good fighting game but the game can be beaten in a matter of minutes . It took me about 30 minutes to have all my characters to max power and its not much fun after that . I recomend you rent it then see if it is worth the buy .
    • 095 4  The game is one of the best PS2 game so far . SquareSoft has shown us how good they are in the computer animation . The graphic and sound are excellent . The story mode is actual an interactive movie and kind of short and easy . You have to go through the story mode in order to have all the scenes and characters for other modes anyway , so let enjoy the movie and practice the fighting skill . For the fighting part it is not as good as the real ` Fighting ' game ( e.g . Tekken ) , but it is not bad . I have a feel that the future of Final Fantasy will be following this trend .
    • 096 4  The graphics , controls , characters , sound effects , the whole plot and way of beating the game , and fighting all the people is excellent fun . The 2 stars missing are for me beating it in 3 hours ( maybe 3 1 / 2 ) . You cannot spend 50 bucks on a game and beat it in 3 hours and get you moneys worth of playing . You can keep improving the grade of your 3 guys and get them to and S grade , which adds on playing time , but is very boring . When you go through the second time , it is always the exact same thing , accept for a different path and story for each character . Overall , not worth [ $ ] bucks to buy ( not even close ) , but worth a [ $ ] rental . I have to end this review by calling it a good game . THATS ALL I GOT TO SAY ! !
    • 102 4  The Final Fantasy series caught everyone's attention , even in recent years with the repetition of styles and stories . Now , Square-EA has taken the same elements that had us awe-struck in the FF games and reproduced them in The Bouncer . Sion , the protagonist of the game , is akin to Cloud and Squall , and the plot is similar to anything you'd find in an FF game . The only difference : this isn't an RPG . The Bouncer allows the player to control only the fights , not the story , and though this may sound rather bland , it's wonderfully done . As you move from scene to scene , the story never skips a beat - - you're always intrigued by what lies ahead . Add to this that the three different playable characters experience the game from various perspectives , and you have a reason to play through the game at least three times . Then , as if that wasn't enough to get this game into our hands , Square took the liberty of including a Versus mode where the enemies you unlock in story mode ( some enemies are only unlocked with one of the three characters ) are playable characters in versus mode . The final point is to ignore what magazine reviewers said and try the game for yourself . If you liked the FF series , you'll feel at home with this game . And , if you liked Streets of Rage on the Genesis , then this is the game to get .
    • 103 4  A few months ago I rented this game . Squaresoft's first PS2 game not being an RPG , but a fighter ? I thought that was kind of wierd . When I started playing it , and the cut-sceans started , it was obvious that the graphics were definaly some of the best I had ever seen . ( That is , until Gran Turismo 3 came out . ) Not only that , but smooth controls ( analog sticks or directional buttons ) , and great sound . My only complaint is that it took me two hours to beat . But with four player matches , and unlockable characters , you'll never really get bored . This is a great game , that got a lot of awful reviews , but I think it's worth buying . You may want to rent it first though .
    • 106 4  The movies and grafics are very well done , and over all the game looks nice , but the down side is that the game leads you by the nose from fight to fight , showing you what you do , without any control of movement or even what you say . It is basically watch a clip , and then fight . The first time through you can beat the game in about 2 to 3 hours , and its faster if you go though a second time . Rent this game before you even think of buying it . Then when you beat it a few times , you can decide if you want it or not .
    • 114 4  This was the first game i owned for my PS2 so needless to say , I kept playing it . It has amazing graphics , solid ( very cool ) controls , good effects and music , and it is a great mulitplayer game . My gripe with The Bouncer is the length . It took me an hour to beat the first time , and every time I played through after that , trying to squeeze a few extra play hours before it go boring ( it still hasn't ) . . . it got increasingly frustrating . The bosses get tougher every time through , and if you choose characters in certain combinations , you can get new characters for multiplayer and new story pieces . So regardless of the length and ease of playing it through once , the game has a decent replay value and I recommend it as a first PS2 game .
    • 116 4  Yeah , it's really easy . Yeah , it's really short . Yeah , there are a lot of cinemas . That doesn't make this game any less cool than it is . For someone like me , who isn't very good at action games , the very nice learning curve and low level of difficulty helped me to enjoy the game and the story more than I would have if it had been too hard , and the story and the graphics are , of course , since this is a Square game , awesome . Nomura's character designs are supercool , not just the hero but all of them - - just wait until you see Dauragon ( play Story through three times for the coolest Dauragon ) and Kaldea . For some good , mindless fun and gorgeous graphics , this game is the best . The strangest thing about the game is that some of the characters are pretty much carbon copies of certain FF VII and VIII characters - - but that's not a bad thing by any means .
    • 122 4  I have been playing the game for over 5 hours of actually game time ( according to the save data ) There are multiple paths throughout the game and different endings . ( I have counted five so far ) . This game is a must get . It really takes advantage of all the PS2 capabilities ; the analog controlers ( different moves based on how hard you press a button ) dvd drive ( it is a dvd-rom disk so even though there is over an hour or so of video on it it is still one disk . Great graphics . . Defeintly worth the buy
    • 124 4  The Bouncer has been one of the most anticipated games for the PS2 , and it being a Square title , you'd figure that it's well worth the wait . . . but dear sweet lord , it's not . It's actually the worst excuse for a game that I've played in years , and Square should be ashamed of even putting this thing up for sale . Basically , The Bouncer is a fighting game with hardly any actual combat . . . just loads and loads of cinemas . It's mostly a non-interactive , interactive movie , with a terrible story ( something about a girl getting kidnapped by some mega-corporation with evil schemes ) , uninteresting and under-developed characters , and an awful game engine . This thing seems to have been created as an show-off vehicle for Square's art department , and it seems to be little more than self-indulgent demo . If you skip the skads of cinematics , you can breeze through this game in under an hour ( ! ! ! ! ! ! ) and once you've beaten it , you're supposed to go back and play with other characters to unlock more hidden features , but once is waaaaaaay more than enough . Combat consists of hitting a few buttons over and over , with little strategy involving moves , because once you gain one decent attack , you'll pretty much stick with that one time after time . The combat sequences aren't even that long , and you'll be watching two or three cinemas longer than the actual battle once you've beaten a level , which is completely absurd . If you're looking to play one of the worst games released this year , then RENT but do not buy The Bouncer .

  • sick graffix , repetitive action , good movies , short game . . make this a 5 dollar rental from blockbuster . . cuz u can beat it in 1 night . . there also shoudl ahve been a more developed multiplayer aspect
    • 074 4  okay , it was short . . . . . but it had the best graphics and fighting . it had multiplechoices for fighting . this is the kind of game i would expect from squaresoft .
