Devil May Cry 4

  • 042 4  even though it has been released more than 2 years , it is still one of the best act game for PS3 .
    • 031 4  its only fun for the 1st few times you beat the game , after that its repetitive

  • 109 4  It's a really great game . the graphics are really realistic , a little too realistic on the females part . They made the females really skanky . You don't get to play as dante much , but you do get to play as nero . Obviously because the game is more about nero than dante and i thought it was supposed to be the other way around . It doesn't seem anything like the anime and the secret missions can get frustrating at times . Overall it's a good game to rent , but I wouldn't buy it only because they went to far with the females . It's NOT something for someone under the age of 18 that's for sure and people thought asassins creed was too much .
    • 044 4  WOWWWW ! ! ! Awesome graphics and great game play . After playing the previous 3 DMC's , I like this one the best . I prefer Nero to Dante . Fun with the usual chatty taunting remarks I love to hear .
    • 055 4  This game is wonderful . One of the best games I have ever played . The graphics are a 10 .
    • 061 4  Simply said Great game have replayed it several times . The graphics are great the music is great and I really cant think of a single negative thing about it .
    • 099 4  Amazing game ever . . I played the whole series but this one on PS3 is amazing . . Graphic , sound effect . . and the story . . .
    • 123 4  Never received the game from the seller . But , at least I got my money back . Cool beans .

  • 117 4  Excellent graphics , only bad music in u.s . version not have options for languages and difficult . . .

    • Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) Devil May Cry 4 is a game of contradictions . For every instance where the developer improved the DMC formula there is an opposing area where things have remained untouched since the original game dating back to 2001 . I'll begin with what players will likely notice first about DMC 4 - the graphics ; simply put they are gorgeous . Throughout the game the player will be treated to an assortment of environments from urban to jungle and even arctic . Each area is rendered beautifully and I found myself stopping to admire the scenery several times . However , as much as the environments have improved graphically there is one glaring issue , they're still pre-rendered static backgrounds . Just like the original DMC on the PS2 , the backgrounds provide no interaction , other than a few props like chairs and benches nothing in the environment can be affected by the player . No matter the level of destruction you render on your opponents - and some of the combos in the game are fantastically destructive - you'll never scratch the environment around you . The pre-rendered backgrounds also present another problem - the camera . Although certain environments do allow the player to adjust the camera for a better angle of the action around them , many areas do not . You'll be stuck with the same fixed camera featured in games like Resident Evil . I can't for the life of me understand why Capcom loves these fixed cameras . The frustration of repeatedly failing to make a jump or accomplish a given task because of the poor camera is only amplified when you're faced with fighting multiple enemies . Often times you'll be completely blind as to where your enemy is , resorting to mashing the attack button in hopes of escaping the area alive . The camera in short is simply not up to par with the attention paid to the graphics . The game includes 2 playable characters - Nero and Dante . Both have their unique weapons and combinations though Dante is clearly the more diverse character with access to far more weapons than Nero . Here again the graphics for the combinations are spectacular . The unfortunate part of the combo system is that it's mostly centered around a single button . There are some slight deviations based on what character your using but nothing very diverse . As I mentioned the game features 2 characters . At some point in the story you'll switch control from one to the other . Without wanting to spoil anything I'll leave out most of the details , suffice to say though that it marks a huge disappointment in DMC 4 . One you do advance far enough into the game to switch characters be prepared to travel back through the exact same landscapes only in reverse order . You'll be seeing the same environments and inexplicably battling the exact same bosses that you just defeated . I feel as though Capcom finished the game and realized that it was far to short to sell as it was and made the player trudge through the game again just to artificially lengthen it . To make matters worse you'll be fighting the exact same bosses a 3rd time before the game ends . The music and sound effects in game are merely passable . There are moments where the soundtrack is actually quite good and fitting for the cut-scenes . However , when in combat the exact same terrible heavy metal track plays over and over again . It's aggravating having to listen to the same song time and time again . Speaking of cut-scenes Capcom included an abundance of them throughout DMC 4 . They are generally quite good in terms of graphics and voice acting , however , the love story infused with a generic betrayal / revenge subplot falls flat . I found myself caring less and less about the confusing story as the game progressed . It basically boils down to kill the bad guys , save the girl . Nothing revolutionary here . Aside from the revamped graphics and some slight online implementation in the form of leader boards and achievements there isn't much new to the series . I keep reading in various articles how western developers are pulling ahead of their Japanese counterparts and I think games like DMC4 are a prime example of why . Instead of changing the more trivial and frustrating aspects of the game Capcom has only wrapped them in a prettier layer . I lost count of how many times I stumbled into a new area in the game and was sealed into the room by a ghost web . The only way to proceed was to destroy the enemies in the area . Why is there a need to even have something like that ? There are many other ways Capcom will test a gamers patience as well . A confusing layout to some of the maps , random mazes that have no logical reason and don't fit into the game are everywhere . It seems like Capcom just threw these things in to lengthen the game . The worst part is that you'll have to clear these areas and mazes more than once since you're forced to play back through the same areas you cleared . Devil May Cry 4 is worth playing and die hard fans of the original game will likely be satisfied but there are far better games out there . Try before you buy , even at a discount price , it may not be worth admission .
      • 001 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) Firstly , let me say that this game is wonderful , as the title of my review would lead you to believe otherwise . I have followed the DMC series since it's initial release in October of 2001 , through the horrendous disappointment that was DMC 2 in 2003 , and the controller-shattering goodness that was DMC 3 in 2005 , so , it's safe to say that I had HIGH expectations ( as most did / do ) for this sequel . For fans of the original and the prequel , nostalgia will abound , both in good and bad ways , but for some gamers requesting an NG or GoW experience , well , you're not going to find that here . Instead , you're going to find gorgeous graphical presentations on BOTH systems , well done but sometimes cheesy voice acting , some back-tracking ( think classic DMC and you'll get it ) , and completely offensive ( as compared to defensive ) gameplay filled with enough challenge to satisfy fan boys and newcomers alike . My biggest complaint about Devil May Cry 4 is also my biggest praise : Old School . For whatever reason , the developers decided that recycling levels and bosses would be a great idea , and , in theory , it is , because you are using two different characters who play , suprisingly enough , rather differently during a majority of the confrontations . My first thought was that Nero is the Richter Belmont stand-in for the Alucard Dante , and I wasn't too far off . The possibilities of heavy-hitting , nasty looking combos out of Nero are almost endless , thanks to the inclusion of the whip-like Devil Bringer , whereas Dante , with the ability to switch weapons AND styles on the fly leaves ample opportunity for , we'll call it , ecclectic devil destruction . Seriously , the combat in this game is fast , fluid , and aggressive , and may take some getting used to for newcomers to the series . Don't think that I'm equating it to a Dynasty Warriors experience , but more like NG sans the defensive tactics . The sound in the game , while not top quality or reinvented , fits the experience perfectly . Techno-Rock + Goth-Classical Music certainly add to the experience , considering the locales , which I'll get to later . If you're wanting a brief summary of the music for this game , just listen to any other DMC soundtrack and you'll be right at home . Also , the voice acting in this game is fabulous , in part due to the recruitment of Johnny Young Bosch as Nero , who , after Trigun , Bleach , and Wolf's Rain , to name a few , has had more than enough time to master the honing of paper characters into vocalized existence . Dante is played by the same voice actor that played him in DMC 3 , so not much has changed in that dept . My only complaint comes in the form of the translation from Japanese to English , as some of the phrases uttered by the characters come off as silly , childish , or simply confusing . Outside of this , being a fan , I couldn't ask for anything more . Graphically speaking , this game is pretty . It may not be Uncharted pretty or Mass Effect pretty , but , for a beat-em up game , they are more than enough to satiate the pixel gods . Character-wise , the game is polished and flowing , with hardly any aliasing , clipping , or tearing involved . Location-wise , the game shines , as each location , although there are few , evokes a distinct feeling once entered and explored . What I'm trying to say is that each locale has it's own vibe , that , if you let it , will suck you in , that is , until the back-tracking begins ( again , remember old school DMC ) . My biggest complaint about the graphical presentation of this game comes in the form of shadowing . In some stages of the game , it resembles the blocky , almost super-deformed style of the original DMC , whereas , in others , the shadows are cast almost haphazardly , not appearing in their natural position at all . All in all , however , the graphics are truly a beautiful aspect of the game that do not hinder the enjoyment level of this game in many ways . Overall , this game is a must buy for any action-adventure fan . Notice that I did not bash the game for the 20 minute install time ( PS3 Only ) or the fact that , in essence , this game is DMC 1 Redux . If you loved , missed , ranted , or raved about the old style of DMC , well , then you're in for a suprise , as Devil May Cry 4 delivers on all fronts with a retraced but enhanced formula that , while good and bad , has influenced games like God of War and Ninja Gaiden since the series ' original inception in 2001 . In the immortal words of some guy I'll never meet : If it ain't broke , don't fix it .

      • 005 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) The latest in Capcom's Devil May Cry series , DMC4 introduces some new elements but keeps a lot of the styles and conventions that made Devil May Cry popular in the first place . The story this time revolves around Nero , a member of The Order of the Sword , a group of holy knights that protects the world against demons . Nero sees Dante , the hero of the previous games , kill the holy leader of their order in the middle of a crowded sermon . After fighting Dante - the story's introductory battle , which ends in Dante leaving with a smart remark - Nero must protect the city from the incursion of demons that have overrun it . The mystery of the occurrences and the truth behind Dante's purpose runs deeper as the story progresses . As mentioned , the main character is Nero , not Dante . However , for the most part , Nero is similar to Dante and Vergil - a white haired pretty-boy in a long coat with a sword and a gun . Nero has three main weapons - his sword , the Red Queen , his dual-barrel revolver , the Blue Rose , and his glowing demonic arm , the Devil Bringer . Each has its own purposes and abilities . The Red Queen is used for most of the game's combat . Besides combo attacks and the like , it can also be revved up like an engine ( the sword's hilt resembles a motorcycle's handle ) to increase its damage . The Blue Rose isn't as damaging as either of the other two weapons , but can be used to wear down enemies - particularly bosses - from a distance . The Devil Bringer is used for throws , but also functions as a grappling hook for use in certain areas and against large enemies . Fans of Dante need not fear , as he is playable as well in parts of the game , using the weapons and styles he possessed in previous games . DMC4 has a lot of callbacks to old games - moreso than the others do , anyways . The presence of the female leads from DMC 1 and 3 ties connections to those games ( the other ones simply acted like they weren't there , similar to Bond Girls ) and the introduction of the almost hilariously sexualized Gloria adds a new face to the series . Despite the difference in character styles , Nero and Dante play fairly similar apart from a few differences . This makes Nero familiar to fans of Dante , and Dante familiar to people who have played only this game and played Nero . Finally , the difficulty options are classified as Normal and Devil Hunter , the latter being for people who have played the previous games and are used to the difficulty level established by it . The graphics are phenomenal in this game , especially in the cutscenes - this actually leads to some parts where the in-game fighting seems drastically overshadowed by the cutscene fighting . As a whole , the game is very nice to look at , with plenty of cool effects to add to the stylish combat system that DMC loves . The sound is pretty good , with a rock-and-roll soundtrack during fight scenes , but it's nothing particularly exceptional . On another technical note , while the installation on the PS3 version does take 20 minutes at the beginning , I noticed almost no loading time during the rest of the game - the entire thing was smooth and seamless . The gameplay , style , and graphics in this game are all fantastic . Capcom definitely knows what people want from a DMC game , and 4 delivers . The only mitigating factor is , even with the normal difficulty level , DMC4 can still get insanely hard at times ( outside of combat as well as in it ) . But , as a whole , DMC4 is a solid package with a lot to love , and if you're willing to invest the time and effort it's worth it . 9 / 10

      • 007 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I just finished DMC4 and can't say I loved it . The graphics are great , but that is tarnished with so many screens being displayed with a fixed camera . The controls are solid and intuitive with all of the various combos being simple to pull off . Also , the difficulty settings are great . You can go masochisitc like DMC2 or you can make it a one button masher and play all the way through . The main issues with DMC4 are story and reptitiveness . You've played these games and they have changed very little , regardless of the character you are controlling . When I booted up DMC on PS2 for the first time , I was blown away . The second stage after the tutorial starts out and there is immediate sense of Deja Vu , not awe and excitement . I also have a problem with the story . Unlike Drakes Fortune or Heavenly Sword , the story didn't compel me to finish , and since the game played identical to previous installments in the series , I only finished just to justify the money I spent on it . Not a good reason to play through a game . DMC4 has some positives , just not enough to make it worth more than a rental .

      • 009 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) Okay , so we rented this game , and I was a bit leery . I haven't played any of the previous DMC's so I don't know the back story or how much fun they were . . . but this game was a trip ! I am a button masher , I admit it , if things are coming at me with swords , or guns or whatever , my instinct says Mash all of the buttons and hope something happens ! the good thing about this game is that it works ! I was flying all over the place an destroying the bad guys . So why not a 5 star game ? Well the story was a bit convoluted , and the critters I was demolishing with my sword and demon arm were fairly repetitive . . . but it was a blast . The graphics were very good . The music was heavy metal-ish which didn't bother me because it felt like it went with the game . Is this a must buy ? Not really , but I would at least rent it for a fun time . Note to parents - There is some language in here I would cringe if my 6 year old heard . . . and there are some cut scenes that appear to have a lot of sexual innuendo ( one actually looked like a lesbian scene ) and boobies do bounce on the overly large breasted women in this game . You have been warned .

      • 011 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) The title says it all which is good and bad . The combat system is essentially the same as DMC 3 but tweaked , ok the whole game is essentially the same as DMC 3 except for graphics which do not disappoint . Really that is a double edged sword , DMC vets like myself may be a little disappointed by the same old style but newcomers may love it . Honestly I skipped or did not pay attention to the story line on any of the games because its just so corny but the gameplay made up for that . This time around though the graphics are the only thing that has really changed - the bosses are kinda weak in that a 2 year old can figure out how to finish them off , gameplay is REALLY WEAK considering it has not been changed so what does that leave you with ? I know some people will disagree but really think has it changed at all from the standard hack and slash gameplay ? Then comes dante which really feels like an afterthought , they just threw him in to make the die hard fans happy but kinda feels weak compared to nero . Honestly I am very disappointed with this game considering how awesome the original DMC was then how DMC 3 upped that so much ( I pretend DMC 2 doesnt exist at all it was blasphemy to the DMC name ) then comes this which feels dull and uninspired . All I have to say is rent it first ( its totally worth the rent ) if you can look past these things or are new to the series you probably will have a blast . Now im not saying this game sucks or anything like that just it really feels like capcom has ONLY upped the graphics and thats it .

      • 013 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) This game has always been visually stunning and continues this trend with the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions . The one thing that's nicer about the PS3 version is that you can install the game for quicker load times . Otherwise , they're visually identical ( as far as I can tell ) . The gameplay has had some new features added that increase the diversity of the battles - that is , you can now grapple enemies and certain points on the map . This adds to the intensity of combos you can execute . The enemies are still as freaky as ever and the action goes pretty quick . You should know that if you do not try to play with combos and styles of fighting , this game may seem repetitious . The combos are part of what add to the game - otherwise , you're just hacking and slashing . Some of the boss fights require you to be creative in order to not take damage . Kudos to Capcom for making sure we use our heads when playing . I do not think it's necessary for you to have played through the previous Devil May Cry games to enjoy this one . And if you use the PS3 version and install it , they give you the back-story to catch you up . Great game !

      • 017 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I am a fan of the first and third Devil May Cry so I was looking forward to the this one especially after seeing gameplay and video trailers . After playing it though , I am kind of disappointed . You start the game playing as Nero , a character with a demon hand , chasing the infamous Dante , son of Sparda and main character of the first three Devil May Cry games , for about 13 stages and the rest you play as Dante . There are about 20 stages total . Well the stages where you play as Nero and Dante are the same stages . Basically , you travel up the map as Nero and come down the map as Dante . The bosses you played as Nero are the same bosses you play as Dante . It feels like you only have half a video game . Also , when playing as Dante the game feels way easier then playing as Nero . The last two stages you play through the same bosses a third time as Nero . The gameplay and graphics are decent and the story is ok , but I have no desire to replay this because of the repetitiveness .

      • 019 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) This game is way better than the other games in every way . If you were a fan of the other games then you will definately love this game . The graphics are better and the controls ( though they'vechanged a little bit ) are easy to get used to . The biggest downfall the game has is that you do not start out playing as Dante , but some new kid named Nero . However , once you start playing as Nero you'll find out just how cool he is too . In some of the gaming mags I've read the reviewers liked playing Nero more than Dante . I personally like playing Dante more , but hey , Nero is still very cool . The only other thing left to say about the game is that it's a true DMC game . The story and attitude of the characters are all there . The beautiful women and strange demons are in the game too . If you own a PS3 then buy this game . If you are getting a PS3 then get this game . If you own a XBox 360 , then this is the only good game you can play ! ! ! !

      • 021 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) DMc is classic , old-school , combo-lovin ' fun . The Human difficulty and Automatic combo options create an accessability that is open to gamers of all skill levels . The item collection , powerup options , and high score leaderboards make for some serious replayability . My favorite game ever is Castlevania : SoTN . The entire time I was playing DMC4 , it seemed sort of like a spiritual successor . Castle Fortuna is almost as fun to hack and slash through as Dracula's castle in Castlevania . A must-buy for action / adventure fans .

There's just something about Dante that makes you want to come back for more . This installment of the series is no different . The gameplay is easy to grasp for newbies and for all of us seasoned demon hunters it is exactly the same . The story line is great , the graphics are beyond cool . If you've never played one game in the series , this game will make you want to go pick up the previous installments and follow Dante's adventures .

      • 032 4  Amazon Verified Purchase ( What's this ? ) This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I should say I have many expectations of this 4th title of Devil May Cry . I have played the 3 titles before , the title 1 was good , the title 2 really bad and the title 3 was superb . I recommend the play the Fourth to those who has played the 3 stories before ( at least the 3rd game ) , just that way you can enjoy the game For those who have never played Devil May Cry wont be satisfied because the story goes to fast and does not transmit the feeling of fight demons as devil hunter . Its good to see Dante once more and adding a new character as Nero with a total different repertoire was really fresh , but as I said before the story does not give enough support to Nero The combos are great , landscapes and graphics are really good . I liked a lot the devil bringer , I have not finished the game , so I dont know if the devil bringer could get more combos but it if not that feature would be a waste , ( having a strong arm with only two moves , I wouldnt get it ) So far , the game is enjoyable , but I think this game could be better , reviving the fighting style from previous games which I am really grateful , but the story didnt caught me as the Devil May Cry 3 did it .

Also the story makes sense why both characters are in the same position of fighting the same battles . I dont want to spoil the ending , but I will say this , the game is awesome every step of the way .

      • 050 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) Devil May Cry 4 simply adds more demon slashing action to the series and doesn't really go anywhere new , however it looks amazing , so if you just want fun gameplay and some fantastic architecture to admire , you'll have a good time with this . This time around we have a new character called Nero who lives in a city called Fortuna that seems to be suffering a demon outbreak . Worse still , none other than Dante himself has appeared and done something shocking that puts him squarely on the side of the bad guys ! Can this be true ? All will be revealed if you play the game . . . As you would expect , the game charts your search ( as Nero ) through the land , fighting monsters all the way , searching for Dante . You'll travel through the elaborately detailed city , a huge castle , a lush jungle and several other locations , all of which look superb . I honestly spent several minutes in each area just enjoying the view ! The graphics are amazing . The gameplay is also great fun , but as it mainly consists of fighting , this means it is familiar and not really changed from the other games of the series . You simply enter a new area , see that familiar blocked exit and then kill everything so that you can progress onward . The designers have added a few new bits and bobs , such as a dice rolling board game section , plus some new gimmicks like time-slowing devices and controllable masonry , but the general feel is the same . Nero looks and behaves almost exactly the same as Dante , so with his silver hair , black clothes and long coat , you won't really notice that you are playing a different character most of the time . Of course his moves are different , and he has a new reach out and grab move that I really liked ( and which is the only really different thing about his set of skills ) , so things do feel a bit new here . So how hard is the challenge ? Well I'm pleased to say that it's no breeze , but not hair-pullingly difficult . I found DMC1 very tough , DMC2 easy , and DMC3 I was too scared to play until they brought out the directors cut with an easy option ! But on DMC4 I played on Devil Hunter mode and it was just the right level of challenge . The bosses were still pretty hard but I managed to cope with them - until the point where Nero has to fight Dante himself . . . oh my god at first I thought this was going to be the end of the game for me , but after much practice I finally learned what was required to beat him ( hint : think of what Nero can do that Dante can't ) . After that , things got easier again for a while , and Dante becomes a playable character for a while - hooray ! There is an impressive ending with both characters having to engage in epic battles , so it's all quite good fun . What you might be disappointed in is the fact that the areas of the game get re-recycled for Dante once you finish the first half the of the game with Nero . You also have to learn how to control Dante's skills just when you have played Nero long enough to be an expert in his moves - and THEN you have to switch back to Nero again right at the end of the game after becoming familiar with Dante ! Monsters look good , although not as creepy . . . I didn't think the Scarecrows were as good as the Marionettes at the lower levels , and the Mephistos didn't spook me like those Sin Scissors used to ( I think it was all the crazy cackling ) . Anyway , the bottom line is that it's fun . Not a long game - unless you play around with the extra modes and the Bloody Palace - and not with much depth , but it still packs a punch , so it's a good way to enjoy the visual capabilities of your PS3 .

Anyway , then came along the second one . Picked it up . . . and . . . well , I quit playing cause the game was just bad . It's been so long , I didn't even know why I stopped . I just remembering ' Wow , that was a waste of money ' . Skip to the modern day , and with a PS3 in hand , I had to check out some of the games available . I eventually got to DMC4 , expecting very little out of it since I still remembered how much ( but not why ! ) I hated DMC2 so much . DMC4 was the most fun I'd had in a long time , and I was able to finish it - - which says something about it . I was able to stay occupied with it for a good . . . 2 days of casual play . You can get a lot out of this game if you'd into the harder modes for bragging rights . Coming into this game with no idea of what to expect , and having not played the third , I can't really compare it against anything except the 1st and 2nd . So , I would say it's definitely a few levels above the first , and obviously towering over the 2nd . However , if you're not going for the harder modes , it might just be worth a rental for you since it won't take too much time to plow through this .

      • 060 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) Simply said Great game have replayed it several times . The graphics are great the music is great and I really cant think of a single negative thing about it .
      • 062 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I know that title isn't exactly awesome but it fits the Devil May Cry series perfectly . This is not deep storylines or emotional cutscenes or ultimately sympathetic characters ; this series is about keeping enemies afloat with a wave of bullets before you bring down your sword right on their head . I really only finished the first one and haven't bothered with the next 2 but since I have a shiny new Playstation 3 , a whole new wave of games I have to try show up . So after the mandatory and hefty 5 GB install ( more on that later ) , I was set for my adventure of sword-and-gunplay awesomeness with flaws that bugged me incessantly . Story : Instead of playing as series regular Dante , you now control Nero , a member of the Order of the Sword , attending church with his friend / love interest Kyrie . Just then Dante shows up and proceeds to assassinate the leader before taking off . The Order tells Nero to go after Dante and make him pay for his crimes but there's more to it than that and Nero and Dante try to get to the bottom of it all . Graphics : I always found Capcom to be quite stellar when it comes to presentation and while the art style isn't as beautiful as Folklore or as immensely detailed as Metal Gear Solid 4 , this game is still quite the powerhouse when it comes down to the graphics . From its art design style with castles , ruins , picturesque landscapes to the fluidity of the action and cutscene direction , this is quite a great looking game on the PS3 . Added bonus is that the mandatory install which takes a good 20 minutes drastically reduces load times with at best 2 - 3 seconds of a now loading screen . Sweet . Sound / Music : The music has always been a mixed bag in terms of what it does and what it feels like the game should be doing . At times , the game takes on an operatic approach with organs , pianos and choirs in Latin but then when action hits , it brings out a cheesy metal song . Sure it fits what you're doing but having sweeping music only to be replaced by music worthy of bad Slipknot and it's just bizarre . Voice acting in Capcom games tend to be hit-or-miss as well , as if the whole game is one big , stylish and impressive B-movie with one-liners ( unfunny ones at that ) and a villain who stutters and it's quite funny in a bad way . Gameplay : The Devil May Cry series is all about the combos and the moves like God of War . From all the moves you can purchase to upgrades , your character will be flying up and down the screen as you bring the proverbial smackdown to your enemies . Gunplay and swordplay effortlessly shift back and forth and using the Devil Bringer , which basically acts like Scorpion's get over here ! from Mortal Kombat . Instead of going over to your enemy , you can grab them from afar and smack em around . Instead of Dante who received new weapons to shift back and forth from , Nero keeps his sword and guns but he just gets more stuff to do with them . The problem is is that the moves and upgrades are rather hefty price-wise and you will frequently go through the process of orb farming where you replay a level to get better ranks and more Proud Souls to use to upgrade which can get very repetitive and the more Souls you get is depending on how good at combos you are . From Deadly to Sick Smokin ' Style , you have to be very adept at slinging together combos without getting hit so if you're a bad player , you're going to be pretty small on upgrades . Also at times , Capcom has gameplay ideas that just don't work and for those wondering if the game is as famously difficult as the third can rest easy ( though it's still maddening sometimes ) , it does a couple things that irk me . Jumping puzzles are sometimes imprecise and with enemies respawning should you fall , it gets kind of boring and quite irritating . The other is that you'll get a board game where you move a character across a board but considering how it's played , it feels like a game stretcher to make the game seem longer than it is . At a certain point in the game , we get to play as Dante and he's basically the same though there's some changes . Dante can now shift into different modes from Gunslinger which focuses on weapons and bullets whereas Trickster basically allows you to dodge enemies more efficiently and the new weaponry gets added upon completing certain missions . However , not to spoil but basically Dante is Nero's levels backwards and you even fight the same bosses . . .3 times . It might be a next-gen title but it's also burdened by gameplay choices . I'd play the game since it's one of the more well-known and popular PS3 games but I wouldn't consider it my favorite and it's more a game I like than absolutely love . I don't mind playing through it and even wanted to get to the end but I didn't feel it was good enough to purchase but that's me .

      • 066 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) This game is so good , i just finished without turning off my PS3 . It is hard to understand the negative reviews for this game . Devil May Cry is action packed , especially when you learn all the combos . The special hidden area are the good test for your combos . The game flows so smooth , i just forgot dinner and lunch . This the best graphics that you find in a cross-platform game . It is slightly lower than MGS4 and Uncharted . Fantastic eye catching art style . Both heroes of the DMC4 , play very distinctively . If you have played previous DMC , playing as Nero is such a refreshing experience . The Devil Bringer is a nice mix . It is not just a weapon , it solves boss battles with a different strategy . This is not a hack and slash button masher . If you want to play the game that way . . . you can set combo to automatic . But please dont do it . Learn the combos it is so much more satisfying and fun to play . Compared to Zelda and RPG puzzles , I love puzzles like these . It is very similar to Uncharted / God of Ware in that manner . You will never get lost or have to look for online guides . The narration is so perfectly done with a frenetic pace , time will just fly by . There are few things very old school like fixed camera , have to back track the same area and fight the same monsters . But you will be happy to do so as you need the extra souls for items purchase . One of the few game developers who have mastered the art of pacing . . the stage never over stays its welcome period . When ever you leave the area . . you always have a feeling you might have missed some thing . Finding all the hidden souls is a fun challenge by itself for the Mario star collectors . Especially with the lower price tag .

      • 068 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I am a huge fan of DMC series , this chapter showed a improvement in graphics , animation , difficulty ( less than DMC3 that was too hard , this one is really fun to play even in the most difficult level ) and sound quality , but unfortunatelly did not improve much on game play , combos are really fun with grat animations but lacks on defence , strategy zero , killing enemies depends on how quick you push buttons , even the counter move is useless and difficult to timing , things that put ninja gaiden sigma and heavenly sword on top of my list of action games for PS3 .

      • 072 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) Graphics : If you play in with your normal audio / vid cables it looks very good but once you plug it in on a HD monitor or TV with your HDMI it just looks amazing . The game does not lag at all and is rich with particle effects and great cutscenes . Sound : Like every other DMC game the sound effects are very realistic and adecuate for what you see is happening in the game . Music is amazing ( if you like heavy rock / electronic music ) and gives you the same feeling of the other DMC games . Gameplay : The gameplay is great , control responds quickly and you have a huge array of button combinations to unleash your cool combos . Like most of the DMC games , DMC4 requires practice and skill to play so the learning curve can be a little steep . Therefore , if you are a TRUE DMC fan you won't be disappointed . When it comes to the content of the game I can say it's full of great story lines and great twists , also since its a Mature game there will be some sexy scenes involving voluptuous women but I see that as a good thing being a 27 year old male . Also I've heard comments that the secret mission are too hard . I consider the Secret missions challenging and you are someone who like to work for something and have a challenge then these are just amazing and fun . if you are someonw who just likes to play games to see the end of them the just play the game in easy / automatic and skip every single secret mission for they are not needed to beat the game . Bottome line is , if you are a true DMC fan or if you are someone that likes challenges then you have tons of hours of challenging playtime ! This game gets a 5 out of 5 from me , its simply the best .

      • 078 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I must admit it has taken me awhile to complete DMC4 ( mainly due to GTAIV coming out and me being held hostage by it ) , but I finally completed it last night . After the largest ( 4GB , 30 minutes ) install I had witnessed , I easily got into the action and controls of the game through its Stage 1 tutorial-style level . I wasn't blown away with the graphics at first ( as the other DMC's were all great looking on the PS2 ) , but once outside of the church , it was breathtaking . Even the textures in the real-time cutscenes were rendered so wonderfully ( pay attention to the detail in the clothing ) . The game features 20 stages , with a majority played as Nero and some played as Dante . ( I don't believe this is a spoiler as anyone reading articles up to the release would know that . ) The stages are varied from castle interiors , to snowscapes , to jungles , etc . Each of these locales pushes the PS3 ' s graphics and audio . Nero's controls are simpler than Dante's but just as easy and / or hard , depending on timing , and unique in some regards . His devil empowered hand and its attacks are perhaps the most unique , as he can grab enemies close or from afar and throw them to the ground . ( I found it a quick and easy way to dispose of many enemies . Very useful with fighting some boss characters as well . ) For the most part though , Nero and Dante have many similar moves , except for Dante's four styles of fighting , which greatly double or triple his move set . ( Ironically , I still found myself using only one of his styles - - Swordmaster . ) The variety of enemies is very good and many are introduced as if they are mini-bosses who are very tough until you learn their attacks , how to avoid them , and their weak spots . ( There is one made of electricity which is very difficult at first . ) The boss characters are all very unique and different and some require multiple attempts to defeat , though if it takes more than 2 - 3 times , I'd be surprised . However , herein lies the only problem with DMC4 - - the boss characters and the last 40% of the game . POSSIBLE SPOILERS ( though I doubt it ) . Once you start playing as Dante , Stage 11 or 12 , I believe , the repetition begins . You literally play the game backwards from where you left off with Nero , encountering all of the same levels and bosses . ( New cutscenes are the saving grace . ) Ironically enough , some boss battles were more difficult with Dante than with Nero . I felt the lack of creativity and the repetition of having to fight the same bosses ( and the bosses don't even attack differently ) a second time as Dante was very weak . ( Not to mention , when you play as Nero again in the last few stages , Nero has to fight ALL of the bosses AGAIN - - come on , this isn't the 80 ' s or 90 ' s with fight the same boss charactes over and over . It may not seem like a substantial gripe , but when you pay $59 for a game , you want 20 stages of original material , not 12 - 14 stages of original , before you have to go back through all of it . ( Going back through is what repeated playthroughs and difficulty levels are for . ) All in all , DMC4 is a great addition to the series and looks beautiful on the PS3 ( and being the first cross-platform game I have played where PS3 owners didn't have to settle for a subpar version with framerate issues ) . This is definately a game to add to your collection , IF you don't mind a game where they kind of took the easy way out for creating about 30% of the stages by using serious repetition .

      • 080 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) The graphics and actions in this game are awesome . However , the story is really lacking . It resembles the modern Castlvania games too much , but not in a good way . The writer has a difficult time getting me interested in the development of the story . In other words , I feel so indifferent towards the characters I wish not to help them but leave them be . Another thing I find very frustrating with this game is that the camera will turn you around when you enter a new location . For example , if you are heading North , once you are in the new area you are facing South or any other random direction . The confusion lies in this doesn't happen all the time . As a result , it makes you disoriented when you know clearly in your head where you are supposed to go . The map is also a bit misleading . At times , it shows a closed up area that I am able to go through . Sigh ! I was totally captivated by the graphics when I played the demo . When I actually played the real game , I feel such disappointment .

      • 086 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) This is one of the best games to come out this year so far and i hope the next sequal turns out to be really good. The great thing about this game is that its easy to pick up and play. Its perfect for someone new in the series.Devil May Cry 4 does get harder as the difficulty goes up.But so far easy pick up and play.Good action sequences and very awesome voice acting.Must buy for anyone new to the series and wants a good action / adventure game .

      • 088 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I think the game is definitely fun and would recommend anyone who is familiar with the previous DMC games to purchase . The graphics are also impeccable and so vivid , but then again would you expect less than that on the PS3 Console !

      • 090 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) Complex , fun , and rewarding combat system completes a great game with amazing visuals and a pretty good story . The cut-scenes are fantastic and the game has a very balanced feel throughout . This is a very well made game with a few minor flaws .

      • 092 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) Pros : Great graphics ; appealing gameplay ; great characters ( females are sexy ! ) ; nice ambiental sounds / music Cons : Camera can lead to frustration when trying to access tight places ( ie . : corners ) ; loading a game will resume from the last checkpoint only ; takes 15 good minutes to install the game

      • 094 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) [ . . . ] One of the best games out since Uncharted last year . Everything is good from the story to the action . The combo system is very deep but it can be handled by noobs also due to the automatic combo system that is implemented . For the con , there are some parts of the game which feel hard as heck and sometimes feel like you can't get through them . Other than that I really can't find another fault with this game . An excellent addition to my library and I recommend this to all PS3 owners . _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Carbonfrost Systems www.carbonfrost.com _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

      • 096 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) This game is a lot of fun , there are lots of moves and a variety of enemies but it was too easy , as are almost all of the ps3 games so far , on my first walkthrough on devil hunter i didn't even use any vital stars . It could have been more challenging like part one

      • 104 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I think the only downfall of this game in my opinion , is that like the first it is capable of being beat in five or six hours much like the first one in the series . However , I liked this game very much the game is fairly challenging ; totally worth the time for anyone who is a fan of the series . They finally took and integrated the various stuff from some of the previous games

      • 106 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) This game is cool and delivers the action to your heart , I bought the ps3 for this game , Excellent Graphics , Good Story ( DMC3 better ) Some of the Demons show some kind of being smart and tries to kill in many ways Addition of Nero is good , while keeping Dante , I prefer if Dante was given more missions to play them , A must buy for any action adventure gamer

      • 108 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) It's a really great game . the graphics are really realistic , a little too realistic on the females part .
      • 110 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I really expected a little more out of this game after playing the demo , but unfortunately this game is not that great . It does not offer any new gameplay elements that an older generation console could not also do . The story is pretty lame , such as when Nero can not get a control panel to work , so he gets an idea and steps back from it . He shoots it with his gun , the light changes from red to green , and then it works as he expects it to . Stupid ! The graphics are very good , especially the in game graphics . Fans of the series may enjoy this game , but new players should play one of the true next gen games like Uncharted : Drake's Fortune instead with a way better written , more compelling story .

      • 112 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I own every Devil May Cry and i've followed and loved the entire series . . . well . . almost loved every one except for DMC3 . . . I liked it the least due to . . . well . . it's lack of new and interesting features . However , DMC4 holds it own . - Graphics are fantastic . - Cutscenes are awesome . - I have beaten the game yet because guitar hero 3 and COD4 is still very addictive . . . but the story so far has been good . - New Features and moves are cool as well . - Gameplay is good . - Have ran into many bugs . . . ( bugs = problems , such as graphic , A.I issues and etc ) The Bad : - Well , . . the most annoying thing is the save points . Maybe its just me , or my PS3 . . or whatever . . but . . . my save points seem to only exist in the beginning of the stage . . . - I haven't ran into this yet ( im only on the 4th stage ) . . . but i've read about it . . . and from past DMC experience . . . is the Big Boss Formula . Repeating the same Boss's throughout the game . . . I know that DMC isn't the only game that does this . . . but it's getting really really tiring . I will credit any game that steers away from this and dis-credit any that sticks to it .

      • 120 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) This is strictly a review of the storyline in DMC4 . I have not played this game , but I have seen every cutscene from it and let me tell you : it is amazing . The graphics are very sophisticated , the voice acting was very well done , and from what I've heard , the gameplay is pretty good , if not redundant . The plot is very different from the first 3 DMCs ( although it HAS to be better than DMC2 ) , and that is a good / bad thing . It's good because the guys at Capcom are trying something new , but I have to say : I was disappointed . The question every single DMC fan was asking was , How is Nero related to Dante ? Cause obviously they are very similar in appearance . I'll tell you now , this question is NOT answered . Even if you get the secret ending that is pretty weird , it is not answered . Several times it is mentioned that Nero had the blood of Sparda running through his veins , but we never find out how he and Dante are connected . Also , this game seemed much shorter than DMC1 . There were much fewer cutscenes , but it was very well done all the same . There are two scenes in the last part of the game with Dante , that are absolutely hilarious . They are just so random and clever , it puts a new light on Dante . The storyline was lacking , because the whole plot is Nero trying to get his love back . I wished that he and Dante had had more contact during the game , like a few more talks or ANYTHING ! We see Dante enough , but he seems to be kind of controlling the game , even though Nero is the protagonist . Nero seems like kind of a throwaway character . They didn't use his potential , and he was just kind of hanging out there instead of propelling the DMC storyline .

      • 124 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I guess I'm getting old ( 32 ) but since purchasing the PS3 a year and a half ago I haven't found one awesome game . The cut scenes are boring unless your into japanese anime ( ani-ghey ) . They are excessively long . The actual gameplay is decent it is pretty much like a fighting adventure game . the puzzles are pretty weak and gets repetitive ( jump puzzles mostly ) . there is a lack of content and mostly you just replay all the same levels to unlock stuff . wish i didn't get this one ! ! ! it will be going up for sale very soon .

      • 126 4  This review is from : Devil May Cry 4 ( Video Game ) I don't get it . This game is just bad . A friend gave me his copy after he beat it . He loved the game . Maybe it's because I just finished Metal Gear , GTA4 , Uncharted , Mario Galaxy , Bioshock & Ratchet but I can't get into this at all . Despite the okay graphics , it just feels dated . It's boring , generic and repetitive , with dull storytelling . The menus and presentation are atrocious . Maybe I'm missing something , a lot of people liked Assassin's Creed too , and well that was terrible . There are so many better games you could be playing than this , if you must , rent it , but don't spend money on this .
